La herencia #25 Thursday 8/18/22 Notes from the Couch . . .

This is in no way complete or in any particular order. Feel free to add anything I skipped.

* Now,  let me get this straight. This was a hard one to understand.  After Juan telling Sara about the wonders of working together as husband and wife,  he is still sticking it to her about her maybe being responsible for the fertilizer debacle. I couldn't believe it and neither could Sara with Juan sermonizing again about how work is work and one's private life is one's private life.  He supports gloating Juli when she comes in with "proof" that Sara's  fertilizer was responsible for decimating the crop.  Juli is so fearful that the prestige and reputation of the company has been ruined by this incident. Nothing like this has "ever"  happened. Juan agrees 100%.

*Sara and Juli have a good cat fight where nothing is achieved but the delivery of good putdowns. Juli tells Sara she will never give up on Juan and  that Sara doesn't deserve him because she is a social climber just like her mother. Sara is not pleased and warns her to leave her and her mother alone.

* Juli calls Pedro to tell him that things are rocky between Sara and Juan so he can take advantage of the situation.

* Earlier, Juan had warned Sara about Pedro wanting to romance her and how good he was at it.

*Later at a board  meeting,  Juan states that he sees Sara's inheritance as the only money available to get them out of their financial mess with the lawsuits that are coming. No, the indeminizations will not cover any of it. Dante will draw up the documents  for Sara to sign. Pedro still disagrees suggesting that anyone could have manipulated the fertilizer to hurt Sara.  Simón suggests that maybe Sara  did it herself. Sara has to convince him how illogical that is. Pedro doesn't think that Sara should be the only one of them to pay for the loss. He tells a sullen Simón and the others that is what inheritances are for!! Juan tries to make "nice nice" with Sara after the meeting talking about the work/home division ad nauseum. She isn't listening. Pedro appears. Sara tells Juan that she doesn't need him to explain things at the Avocado Congress (?) with her tomorrow. She is an owner of the company and she has Pedro the vice-president going with her.  Juan is blind-sided!!!!

*Sara pledges to herself that no man will ever hurt her again like "Esteban" did.  Hmmm . . I want to know more about Esteban.

* Dante is concerned about the Cornelio/Pedro incident. Juan wants to  leave things as they are.  Juan talks to Dante about using the company's rainy day fund to cover their losses now until the time that Sara's inheritance can reimburse it. Dante tells him he can take that move on his own as the president of the company. Juan decides to do so but tells Dante to keep that a secret. Juan tells Dante that he is having the fertilizer producer test the soil itself. Dante cannot believe that Juan is sacrificing so much for Sara. Juan says she is the love of his life. Dante also explains that in order to get full custody of Tadeo, Pedro will have to go to court and prove that Bea is not a good mother. He could always use the Cornelio incident.

* Clueless Mateo is still pursuing Juli this time at the hacienda . He forces a kiss on her. She seems to kiss him back but then tells him to leave her alone. It is over. Later, it looks like he is back to drinking at the cantina.

* After Mateo's visit, Rosa criticizes Prospi for ruining the prospects of her daughter. Prospi informs her that money isn't the most important thing  in life and  Rosa she is a selfish person. She calls him a timid man. She had such better prospects. He asks like Severiano? Prospi thinks they still have time to get separated so they can find real happiness in their lives. Rosa is shocked.

* After the car chase and shooting, Pedro comes into the stable area shouting for his horse to be saddled. He is upset because Cornelio tried to take his son and Juan wouldn't let him take care of Cornelio. Simón and Lucas are concerned because it looks like Pedro has  a bad habit of going for wild horse rides when he is overwrought. Agustín suggests he learn how to be like his father. Pedro turns on him and fires him for being old and useless. Lucas tells Pedro what he thinks of him after he throws another tantrum and fires Agustín.  Pedro punches him in the face. Later, Lucas as the good and true co-dependent/enabler  he is, blames himself for having provoked Pedro absolving him of all blame.  Geez.

* Pedro finally gets to go for his wild horse ride but is disturbed when he has a flashback where his father stops him on one of those rides and offers him his hand. He refuses to take his father's hand and tells him to leave him alone.

* When Rosa arrives at work, she sees that Deb is the only person in the store and that Bea is not there, Deb encourages her to fire Bea so that the store has a more "suitable"  employee. She informs her that Tadeo is Pedro's and not Cornelio's son. They make themselves feel more worthy by slut-shaming Bea in their conversation. That convinces Rosa.   Bea finally arrives with Tadeo in tow and the two women give Bea the old side eye.

*Whoopsie!! Jessica cannot cook, cannot clean and is at her wit's end in the real world with Brayan and out of her pampered existence at her parents' home. She has no idea of what to do.  Nobody is available to  help her!! Boo Hoo! It is a nightmare!

* Modesto catches "sad-sack" Sal reading old letters from his wife Irma. He asks  Sal how long is he planning on keeping the truth a secret.  Sal is afraid that Paloma will see him as less of a person  if he tells her the truth. Modesto talks about the difficulty of being a parent and suggests that Sal allow Paloma to live her own life with the man she has chosen.

*Cornelio, of the bloody  bandaged ear,  is back at the cantina telling Modesto about what happened and is promising to take Tadeo away again. He will  get even with Pedro some day. Modesto tries to talk him out of it

* Paloma goes to Pátzcuaro looking for her mother's (Irma Ríos Ochoa) grave at the cemetery. Surprise! She isn't there. Paloma concludes that her father has not been honest about her mother. She confronts Sal, but we do no not see the ensuing conversation in this episode.

Jarifa, another well written, engrossing recap. I am so enjoying “Notes From the Couch” and eagerly look forward to this weekly must-read.

“Sara and Juli have a good cat fight where nothing is achieved but the delivery of good putdowns” was my favorite of many.

Keeping the personal separate from the professional here is an impossibility, particularly for Juan. He is so predictable, once again throwing Sara to the wolves – Pedro and Juli.

“Cornelio, of the bloody bandaged ear” seeks comfort from Modesto although I think Cornelio, weeping and blubbering in his beer is a lost cause.

Speaking of…Mateo is not dissimilar. I wonder what Amado was going to say to him before all hell broke loose.

“They make themselves feel more worthy by slut-shaming Bea in their conversation”. The perpetually wolfishly smiling Deb leading the oh so pliant Rosa down another dark road.

Pedro has quickly gone from a slow simmer to boiling over with rage. His firing of Agustín and his vicious hitting of Lucas shows his anger is growing unabated and he is losing control.

Yet, “Lucas as the good and true co-dependent/enabler he is, blames himself for having provoked Pedro absolving him of all blame. Geez”. Shaking my head in disgust. Ack.

Poor Jess! Although I have to say, being newly married has challenges in and of itself. Her situation is being made even more difficult by living in very close quarters with Bryan’s family. Equally overwhelming are new traditions, differnt food and responsibilities she is ill equipped to deal with. When Bryan put the coins in her hands, I thought she was going to cry. I hope she seeks solace with Prospi rather than Rosa.

Esteban? Oh goody. We need a good skeleton coming out of the closet, if only to rattle Juan who definitely deserves it.

Jarifa, thank you for another fantastic summary.

Diana

Jarifa, I agree with Diana, Notes From The Couch is a weekly must-read. Thank you.

"Prospi thinks they still have time to get separated so they can find real happiness in their lives." That's what I've been saying for like 20 episodes!

I'll comment more later.

Thank you, Jarifa, you missed nothing of importance in my opinion... I tried to pay attention to when they were talking about the results of the analysis, but I still din't get what was the actual problem. The only thing they said was that the fertilizer wasn't damaged, so they couldn't sue the production company. So does this mean that it was just a case of "avocados didn't like the new product and rejected it"? How coincidental that this was exactly what Julieta suggested might happen. Or maybe the writers kept the dialogue vague because they have no clue what they're talking about.

I don't know how Juan can expect Sara to separate business from personal life when they both work for the family business. Family is personal, so... Keeping her at arm's leght at the office and then wanting to play kissy faces at home?? Boy, please!
Sara did say in front of everyone when she suggested they change fertilizers that she will take full responsability if something bad happens. And yeah, she offered her part of the inheritance as reparation, but she did also say that it was not her fault when something bad did happen. Until foul play is proven , IT IS very much her fault and she should maybe be on probation or something. But paying for the damage with her own "almost" money is stupid if the company has an emergecy fund.

Juan making Sara an executive was OK, since she has the experience to handle money, but the first thing she did when in charge, was make a big decision that Juan backed. So, he's also responsible and yeah, Pedro might have a case in his quest to get his brother fired from the President position. I really wish we knew the truth, because so far Julieta seems very reasonable to me - she has her ex's new girlfriend meddle in her work life, taking decisions and causing problems for all of them - I'd despise her, too. And having Deb live in her actual home means that Julieta has a 24/7 dose of them, which can't be easy.

In the scenes with Rosa, Deb and Bea, Rosa was actually showing some simpathy for Bea until Deb started spewing her venom about not employing someone of such questionable reputation. I'm actually starting to feel sorry for Bea, she's made mistakes, but she doesn't have all the blame. Cornelio was no perfect husband, either, so this story will probably end in tragedy on eway or the other (my money is on Cornelio dying).

Jarifa - Another great "Notes From the Couch"! Thank you!

Last night's episode was so frustrating! I wanted to throw a sock at my TV.

"They make themselves feel more worthy by slut-shaming Bea in their conversation."
Right? What I simply cannot wrap my brain around is the fact that slut Deb knocked boots with married Severiano to produce bastard Sara, and this doesn't bother Rosa??? Yeesh.

That whole DelMonte family is so sick and dysfunctional, there is no "fun" in their dysfunction. - PPedro shoots CC and nothing is done? No discussion? No consequences? They all go back to work and life as if nothing has happened? QTH???
- Pedro goes BSC at the farm, fires Augustín for no good reason, and Lucas wants to forget the whole matter? QTH??? ...what an enabler.
- San Juan wants total transparency and no more secrets or lies among the brothers also wants to use the emergency funds to save the company and .... not tell anyone. What a hypocrite.

I am just SO over Juan + Sara. She has no idea what a healthy relationship is (ref: Deb as her mom) so she puts up with Juan's abuse at the office. Catalina may have run the company "cado a cado" with Seve, but Juan's memory is from a boy's perspective. I'll bet she took a back seat and deferred to Seve in all matters & decisions. Gah.

Adriana - I'm with you and can see CCorny ending up dead, too.

Thank you Jarifa, for your witty recap!

All of the Del Monte boys are just that, little boys! They all act like angry five year olds who need to grow up! Lucas, ironically being that he is the youngest, is the least immature even though he is as you pointed out an enabler.

Juan is a galán? It occurred to me that if the avocado business goes under the family could always make their living by teaching gaslighting classes! Pedro would be the master teacher of course but Juan with his ‘personal is personal and business is business, so I can be as mean as I want at work with no relationship consequences’ would be second in line.

Simon and Mateo might be useless but then again they already are. They could however just yell ‘It’s Sara’s fault’ incessantly in the background.

Speaking of gaslighting, the next time I hear one of the brothers dismiss Lucas entirely during a business meeting by telling him he knows nothing about business I am going to jump through the screen and slap someone silly!!!! If you think lil brother doesn’t belong in business meetings stop inviting him to business meetings! If you invite him to the meeting give him just a little bit of respect and let him speak!!!

I disagree that this is Sara’s fault. She presented the idea and all contingencies were discussed including the possibility of the avocados rejecting the change; Juan then made an official company decision to change the product. Assuming the problem is just the fertilizer and not the more likely cause of sabotage by someone, I don’t see how you can blame Sara for a decision the company made. IMO saying it is Sara’s fault is a lot like saying it’s Lucas’s fault Pedro hit him because he provoked him….the company made an eyes wide open business decision and the company is responsible for the outcome of the decision!

Diana, “We need a good skeleton coming out of the closet if only to rattle Juan who definitely deserves it.” If only . . .

What a household with TWO crazies (Pedro and Simón) ready to fly off the handle and do damage to anyone who disagrees with them while everyone puts up with them! Pedro seems to have something against “old” men. Somebody needs to remind him that the only antidote to “old” is “dead” and he should be so lucky to be “old” some day.

Weirdo, if only Prospi and Rosa would have taken your advice already! ; )

Adriana, the fertilizer issue is always vague as you pointed out. I agree it must be because the writers don’t know much about what they are writing. They would have done better doing some real research. That being said, Juli did insist that the results of the analysis come directly to her so I think she changed them before presenting them to Juan and Sara. Will anyone be able to manipulate the analysis that Juan directly requested from the fertilizer manufacturer? It is my guess they won’t and St. Juan will discover that he has enemies lying in wait and playing for keeps.

doris, these people are so frustrating! Physical violence short of murder has no repercussions and in the case of Severiano, maybe even murder can be conveniently ignored. I am still waiting to see if the police ever did an investigation of the accident or if the bros just collected and junked the SUV Severiano was in.

Anon 7:38, ITA that this fertilizer catastrophe is not Sara’s fault but is Juan’s as the head of the company. He was foolish in not taking more care but he only saw the bottom line. Guess he was blinded by $$$$. Please “step through the screen” and “slap someone silly.” They need it.

Well done, Jarifa. I was having a bit of a problem with the talk about the fertilizer, but I agree that Julie Stepford had to have changed the report in order to incriminate Sara.

The two senior gentlemen in this tale -- Augustin and Modesto -- deserve their due. They have been around long enough to understand human nature and be honest about it. Not sure how well Augustin knows the del Monte brothers, but Modesto knows them well; he was a second father to them. I think he knows them better than they know themselves.

It looks like Simon has no time for a psyche practice; he has an unpaid one at home.

As for Pedro's behavior in this episode, I would say he is now irredeemable. There is no apology that Lucas should accept for this.

Propero needs to get free of Rosa. I am surprised that it lasted this long. It has driven Jessica out into a situation she isn't ready for. Bryan loves her and he's hot but there is so much else that Jessica needs to learn, including cooking and housework. Adele is now too busy to teach her these things. I dearly hope she doesn't go crawling back to Rosa because Rosa will see that as a win and continue to treat her like a child.

The "catfight" between Sara and Julieta is only the beginning.

Modesto was right in what he said to Mateo about Julieta. She doesn't love Juan any more than she loves Modesto but sees a "protector." I have to say that I truly despise women who need male protection as adults. Juan can and will be a protective father some day, but he isn't looking for a weakling or he would have married Julieta long ago.

Yeah, as I said, it was a mistake for Sara to offer her inheritance to fix the problem, but during their meeting about changing the fertilizer, she was the one who said "I take fool responsability if there is a problem".
Now she is saying she will pay but at the same time she is fighting Julieta over whose fault it is. I also think Juli had something to do with the tampering, but we haven't yet been shown what exactly happened, so all we can do is speculate.
I don't find it hard to believe that Julieta would hate that Sara is not only interfering in her private life, but also her professional life, I guess only Juan can keep business and pleasure separated. And he is the number one guilty party in all of this - he is in charge and he aproved the whole thing.
And he's being a big hypocrite, telling Dante he wants to protect Sara, and then turning around and telling Sara that business is business.

The patio is heating up with fiery comments and questions.

Weirdo, yes Prospi's words (now turning into not so veiled feelings about their questionable future) seem to puzzle rather than motivate Rosa. She doesn't for a moment think he will leave her. Huge sigh.

"Rosa was actually showing some simpathy for Bea until Deb started spewing her venom" was exactly right Adriana! To be fair, this isn't the first time Rosa has shown concern for Bea either. Deb just can't hold her poisonous tongue can she??

"That whole DelMonte family is so sick and dysfunctional, there is no "fun" in their dysfunction" - love it doris! The bros do have covering up for each other down to a fine art. Cornelio got treatment for his injury. Is there no law in Mexico that gunshot wounds need to be reported?

"Simon and Mateo might be useless but then again they already are" had me smiling anon.

Jarifa, "I am still waiting to see if the police ever did an investigation of the accident or if the bros just collected and junked the SUV Severiano was in" is exactly right and very puzzling. Two people died in a terrible crash and...?? I can't believe Simon never went back to help Sev but maybe I'm wrong.

OT

For those w/ Netflix, there is a new Mexican firefighter crime/mystery drama called “High Heat” (Donde hubo fuego) (Where There Was Smoke). I started watching the first episode and firefighters were in the middle of a photo shoot showing off their bods. I am not acquainted with the majority of the actors but a few familiar faces are listed in the cast: Itatí Cantoral, Esmeralda Pimental and Polo Marín. It has 39 episodes. I will have to give the first episode more of a look this weekend to see if I really want to watch this one.

Diana, your post about “patio heating up with fiery comments and questions.” was the perfect intro to my O/T. Too funny.

Jarifa, thank you for another excellent recap as our story bubbles and boils with each character striving to get what he\she wants. I haven't had a chance to watch the show yet , but when I do, I will know what the characters are saying when I do.

Like several people have mentioned, I can't wait to see which bio parents start to pop up. I hope we get a few interesting surprises. Just what these five bickering brothers need..more drama.

I blame insufferable Rosa for Jessica's wedding. With a mother like her, it's logical that she would want to get out of the house as quickly as she could. She married Bryan to escape the house. I'd blame Próspero too, but he seems like a decent parent. We'll see, though. We thought Salvador was a good parent/person, but look what he did...

I am actually very glad I have a mother who supports me, understands me and loves me unconditionally. She's the person I'm the closest to and I consider myself lucky for that. She also watches telenovelas with me and we try to guess the characters' MBTI. Lol she's perfect.

As for the Sara/fertilizer thing:
Sara obviously didn't do anything to the fertilizer and I agree that it's mostly Juan's fault, since he's the one who makes the decisions in the company.
It's just annoying that she said she would take the blame if something happened and then she didn't. On the other hand, I understand her reaction, because she was blamed for something she didn't do.

"I have to say that I truly despise women who need male protection as adults." ITA. I can't even begin to express how much I agree, Urban.

Jarifa, will you also do a Notes from the Couch for today's episode? Can't wait to read the recap!

I am usually wrong in my predictions , but I think Juli is so desperate to rope and hogtie Juan that she did something to cause the avocado crop to fail. JMHO

My dad grew potatoes and corn , and the local agriculture agency gave advice on which fertilizers to use Which was not always good advice as it turned out in later years.

It all boils down to what the writers wanted to achieve using this storyline . They wanted the brothers to have more fuel to blame Sara . They also wanted to portray Sara as an ethical person who is willing accept resonsibility if it was her mistake. She went with a supplier that offered a better price. Hopefully, she checked that tbe fertilizer they were selling was the same formula as the fertilizer usually used. However, the writers have painted Juli as a bad girl , so I am guessing she is responsible somehow ,and Sara will be exhonorated.

Jarifa: Howdy from the Alamo City. Thank you very much for the recap of last night's episode.

I also like to know more about Esteban & what did Goldie Locks Sara mean by referencing Esteban "hurting her".

Question, possibly rhetorical: What exactly do Mateo and Simón do all day? (besides sit in at board meetings) Neither seems to have any pretense of work or career.

Well, I was finally able to watch this episode while I had lunch....a salad of avocado !!, tomatoes, and cucumber with raspberry vinegrette .

Daniel ( Pedro) is certainly loving playing a villain. I rewound and rewatched the scene of him arguing with Lucas. He turned away and then turned back and sucker punched his younger , rational, kind brotber. Pedro is getting worse and worse. He is the only brother who is cold to Modesto. He has no respect for his elders as we saw with his treatment of Augie.I also noticed that Daniel ( Pedro) is, indeed , and experienced,, confident horseman .He was riding pretty fast while using on!y one hand to hold the reins.

Jarifa, you packed quite a punch from your couch, zooming right in on the motley Herencia crew. My faves have been mentioned, but I like them so much here they go again:

Later, Lucas as the good and true co-dependent/enabler he is, blames himself for having provoked Pedro absolving him of all blame.

They make themselves feel more worthy by slut-shaming Bea in their conversation.

*Whoopsie!! Jessica cannot cook, cannot clean and is at her wit's end in the real world with Brayan and out of her pampered existence at her parents' home.

Doris, on Simon and Mateo's work. Mateo has been seen fixing farm equipment and inspecting avocado growth. Simon, the degreed psychologist, is the finance person with Sara and has been seen looking at ledgers, but never been seen attending to a psych patient.

ITA the fertilizer fiasco is not Sara's fault. She proposed a cost-saving measure and Juan approved it. She's an economist, not an agriculture expert. I too would love to see Esteban show up. Pedro is too hot-headed to be real competition right now.

I'm wondering why Rosa looks up to Deb like she's high society, if she (Rosa) comes from a rich family and married "down" to Prospero. Of all the crazy here, Rosa just makes no sense.

Thanks, Jarifa, I loved the Notes from the Couch. I am with the group that thinks Juli did something to ruin the crop. She told Sara how she wants to get Juan back and this (ruined crop) is certainly causing a big rift between Sara and Juan.

Pedro was so disrespectful to Don Augusto, and also to Modesto. He has no respect for anyone. He and Deb should team up!

Telenovelas seem to be pretty lawless. If there are police they’re often crooked.

Liz

Liz, guess that is why nobody ever rushes to involve the police. Could they be involved in a cover up here?

Niecie, thanks for reminding us what Mateo and Simón Do. What a group of losers! Yes, Rosa does seem to be the goofiest of the bunch.

Susanlynn, your salad with *AVOCADOS* sounded great. As for Daniel Elbittar, he must be doing a good job because I dislike his character so very much. What a creep!

Jarifa,I looked up Daniel. He is Venezuelan , and he is a triple threat..singer, model, actor . He was in El Dragon, but I cannot remember him in that tn. He is definitely chewing up the scenery as a bad hombre in this show.

Thanks for the info, Susanlynn. I don’t remember him from “El
Dragón” either.

I was rooting for Daniel's character in El Dragon. IIRC he was an investment banker and dating El Dragon's chauffeur-girlfriend.

Okay, thanks, Niecie. I may have to go back and take a look.

Urban, I, too, think this was only one of many “fights” Sara and Juli will be having because it doesn’t look like either is going anywhere.

Susanlynn: Quite obvious that playing the villain is much more fun.
