La herencia #51/52 Friday 9/16/22 Notes from the Couch
This is in no way complete. Feel free to add anything I omitted.
This just keeps getting messier . . .
-Pedro actually asks Sara to be his novia in front of EVERYONE but she will not be pressured not accepting. Mad Dog Simón is incensed by the very idea. Later, he warns Paloma not to put her support of Sara between them. (Too bad that Paloma didn't heed our advice to RUN as far as she could away from this nut job. )She wonders if he is against Sara because of the inheritance or because she is woman. (Neither, he is plain old crazy) He denies he is a misogynist. He thinks all of his problems can be cured by Paloma having a baby. More machismo is lurking when Sal asks Paloma if she has told Mad Dog about her starting a law practice. She says she is independent and doesn't need to talk to him about it. He and Agustín seem to disagree. Later, she tells Mad Dog that she had a secret to tell him (about her law practice while he thinks it is about her being pregnant) but never has the chance in this episode. Mad Dog is continually aggressive against Sara through out the episode. The topic of "machismo" comes up again when after wooing Rosa and asking her to marry him again so they can renew their vows, Prospi ruins the moment by asking Rosa if she ever loved Severiano. She says no and insists she never cheated on him and asks him if HE would have forgiven her as she did him if she had cheated on him. He never answers and they agree that both of their mind sets came from the "machismo" they were raised with. (Quite insightful!) (A PSA of sorts)
-When Rosa wants a photo of Juli and Juan with the new crib, Pedro smirks as Sara clearly looks distressed. He does show up later to "comfort" her when she is crying on her bed. (What a slime ball!)
-Lucas tells Pedro that he shouldn't marry Juli. He doesn't want to see him ruin his life.
-Amado tells Cornelio he is leaving town and going home. He warns him to be careful around Deb. She could easily send him to jail or to the grave. (If only . . )
-Sara tells Pedro about his mother showing up and that she will not get involved in that situation. He tells her that his mother especially hated him because he reminded her of his father. He cannot tell Sara the unimaginable ways she tortured him. He falls apart and she tries to console him. Maybe Juan can forgive his mother, but he cannot.
-Sal tells Agustín that Cornelio was a part of the group that attacked Santa Catalina. He cannot let it go. He refuses to be an accomplice and not inform the police. Sal and Agustín just happen to run into Cornelio on the way to the police station and Sal tells him he is going to file a complaint against him. Magically, Deb appears. Sal is going to file complaints against, her, too for what she did to Prospi and his brother. Deb threatens Sal with mistreatment of Paloma and Tadeo and threatens Agustín, too, if any complaints are made against her. Cornelio makes a show of saying how sorry he was that he ever asked her for help. She threatens him with mistreating Tadeo, too, if he doesn't leave her alone. We find out later in a phone conversation that Cornelio and Deb are in cahoots and the confrontation was staged. She trusts him to keep Sal and Agustín under control. That being said, Cornelio makes Deb assure him that she would never do anything against Tadeo.
-Mateo tells all of the brothers and Sara at the company that he is walking away from his inheritance. He is recovering from a disease, in therapy, and in love. He doesn't want all of the problems that have come from the inheritance. Pedro and Lucas tell Mateo he will always have a place at the business and at Santa Catalina. Mateo is still planning on working at the company being in charge of machinery and the security guards but he is resigning from the board. Nobody can change his mind.
-Sara announces to all of the brothers that she is contesting the will. Mad Dog goes crazy wanting to start legal proceedings against her immediately. Juan says he also is involved as an heir and that they will let the judge decide and live with the results.
-PSA: SEXUAL ASSAULT VICTIMS ARE NOT TO BLAME! Lucas confesses to Alondra what happened to him and how upset he has been. He is a man and couldn't defend himself. She tells him that victims of sexual assault have nothing to be ashamed of. She loves him and will be there for him.
-Dante tells Deb that another brother has fallen! She correctly guesses it was the drunk.
-PSA: READ ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU SIGN IT! Prospi and Rosa show up at their fabric store only to find that Deb has changed the locks. She is the new owner. Deb insists there was nothing illegal about it because Rosa signed a contract turning over the business to her in two months since the date that they became partners. She shows Rosa the contract which she signed in front of a notary. It turns out Rosa never read the small print. Prospi and Rosa are taking her to court!. (Sure) They go to see Paloma at the cantina who starts to read over the contract to see if there is any evidence of fraud or lack of good will. In the meantime, Dante brings Aurora to the store where Deb hires her.
-Looks like Bruno is interested in Bea but it looks like she is only interested in having him as a work buddy. (Yay!)
-Brandon is no longer going to the USA but is still stuck on Dulce. Mateo has found a robotics competition for him enter. Brandon asks Mateo to help find his father.
-Cornelio tells his father that he knew what was going on at the hacienda because he knew Victorio. He also tells him that when the attempt on Amado's life was made, it was he who was the target. He is also sure that Pedro was behind the hit. Modesto asks how he knew Victorio but Cornelio never answers. Modesto warns Cornelio that defamation is a crime. Cornelio says it is true. Modesto remembers Pedro threatening to kill him. Cornelio says there is no proof now because the guy who shot him was found tortured and dead in a ravine. Police said it was gangs settling scores but that remains to be seen.
-Juli is like an 8th grade girl who keeps trying to prove she is the queen bee. She visits Sara to make sure that she knows that she ended up with Juan and not her and knows how bad that must make her feel. Sara says she gave up Juan and cannot see Juli forcing herself on him when it is clear that he doesn't love her. Juli breaks the flow of office documents by cutting Sara out of the process so Sara won't pass anything directly to Juan. Sara has to remind her that she is an owner of the company and she wants it the way it was. Later, Juli tries to stick it to Pedro after he has hallucinated seeing his mother in his mirror and has broken it. She tells him that he has so much resentment that he is going to end up broken like that mirror. He says if she doesn't get married ASAP, it is SHE who will end up on the trash heap and forcibly escorts her from his room. Funny, but earlier, she and Pedro shook hands on the fact that they both were getting what they wanted.
Sal thinks back when he asked Irma if Paloma was his daughter. She said he was but he didn't believe her and asked her again. We never hear her second answer. Sal still has his doubts but is afraid to find out the truth.
-Jessica is still sitting doing NOTHING at her parents' home as her husband is working hard trying to earn a living. (Has she ever heard of moving her butt and getting a JOB??? ) (Maybe I shouldn't say she is doing nothing because) she did stick her nose into her parents' marriage AGAIN when her parents went to see Paloma by mentioning her father's infidelity one more time. Anyway, Brayan would love to have a baby. She tells him that until they have a decent standard of living that will not be happening. He now thinks that they made a mistake getting married. They are definitely from two different worlds. He is desperate and goes to Avocado Central to ask Juan for a raise but, unfortunately, he runs into Pedro who tells him that Juan is unavailable. Pedro laughs in his face when Brayan asks for a raise. He also finds out that the land his mother's house is located on is going to be annexed to the rest of the Del Monte property and soon will be gone. Pedro cannot understand why he didn't see that coming. Later at Modesto's homecoming, Brayan goes off to talk to Sara but we do not know what he talked to her about.
-Sara continues to give Juan the hard time he deserves. He wants to suddenly stop the war that is going on with her contesting the will. She asks him what he is willing to give her to stop it. Well, he is willing to reach an agreement and they start arguing about what they said and didn't say from the start. She tells him she doesn't just want the money now but she wants it ALL. He calls her ambitious like that is a bad thing?? She says he can call her "Sara La Ambiciosa" (Sara the Ambitious One) She also wants to share his office. As a a member of the board she is entitled to any office just like he is. Juan tells her that is a no-go. He clearly is aggravated.
-Dante looks at images of Pedro torturing Victorio. He concludes that "Perros no comen perros" (Dogs don't eat dogs); in other words: "There is honor among thieves."
-Modesto has a joyous homecoming complete with an original song from Tadeo. Juan has invited the staff to dinner in honor of Modesto. Deb comments that the group seated at the table is like a scene out of (Luis) Buñuel movie. Suddenly, Agustín starts talking about buñuelos. Modesto talks about the great friendship he had with Severiano. He admits that he has been criticized for being Severiano's go between with his ladies, but he never could never betray him as he knows Severiano would never betray him.
-Dante is talking to somebody on the phone He asks how much Juan has defrauded the company for. He finds out it is quite a large amount. He then asks who "Campo Verde" (company) belongs to. He finds out that the owner is Pedro. He mutters to himself that little Pedro thinks he is cunning but he is not as cunning as he is. (I would place my bets on Dante. )

I'm not currently watching anything but something came to mind that I wanted to ask.
What do you guys think about who has been the best antagonist in which telenovela and why?
There are so many, it is hard for me to choose.
I did like the redemption of Antonia (Chantal Andere) in Amor Real.
I think it's time to update the Recommended Telenovela List on the Sidebar. But I haven't watched that many telenovelas in the past 5 years.
Of course, my favorite was “Mad Dog Simon.” Your wise PSAs and vocabulary were greatly appreciated. I laughed out loud at “He warns him to be careful around Deb. She could easily send him to jail or to the grave. (If only . . )” which was just great.
There were so many heartbreaking moments including “Lucas confesses to Alondra what happened to him” and Pedro hallucinating in the mirror.
Mateo grows a spine and a healthy dose of courage. Lucas starting on his long journey of healing from an experience beyond imagination. Pedro continues his course of cruelty, lies and deception. Sara struggles to move on but is clearly adrift. Juan is trying to hold everything together. Deb smirks and smiles while she thieves, cheats and plots. the vicious little wheels run amok in her head.
Simon is starting to rage again. Poor Paloma! She really isn’t cognizant of how deeply troubled Simon is. She is likely starting to get a painful clue with his demanding her support of Sara not come between them and other recent events that have transpired. And I agree that when she tells him she wants to start her own practice, a firestorm will surely ignite.
I did not realize that Cornelio and Deb are in cahoots or that Deb hired Aurora. While deadly Dante is more than capable of murder, theft, thuggery (and more), he seems to have no clue that there is no way that Aurora will ever control Pedro. Did he think Pedro would run to his mother saying all is forgiven after years of horrendous abuse? He knows Pedro well so unless he has some sort of insidious plan in mind, this is a huge misstep for the mastermind.
Juli is also getting out of control. And please – can someone move that crib upstairs!!
Jarifa, this was marvelous. Another exceptional Notes from the Couch. Thank you for all of your hard work!
Diana
Loved the PSAs. "Perros no comen perros" was something I had never heard of before, so thanks for clearing that up.
"He calls her ambitious like that is a bad thing??" IKR? Ambition isn't bad, I'd say it's a good thing. (Except if it's extreme, of course.)
"And please – can someone move that crib upstairs!!" had me laughing, Diana. Perfect.
More later or mañana.
Hmmm...Pedro waa so rude and dismissive to Brayan, and then Brayan asked to speak to Sara at the hacienda. That seemed to be an importsnt scene. I wonder if he will inform her about Pedro telling him that their property will be annexed. Will that bit of information be the start of Sara realizing that Pedro is working against the family?
Jarifa, in the last paragraph , is Dante talking to someone about Juan or Pedro?
Diana, yeah, let's move that darn expensive crib out of the livingroom. That poor baby is just a pawn Juli and Rosa are using to snare Juan.
Pedro is on the edge. If he meets Aurora , he will surely go over it.
Simon is huffing and puffing. He would like Paloma to stay in the hacienda like Rapunzel in her tower. I don't think that will happen .
Yay for Alondra standing by Lucas and loving him unconditionally. She is the one sister who has escaped Rose's haughty , elitist, greedy influence . By the way, it seems that Prospi has managed to rekindle the romance with Rosa. Does that mean that Rosa has escaped getting an anvil?
Deb had better hold on to her hats because I think she has only seen the tip of the iceberg that is Dante. Will she end up in his inferno with him at finale time ?
Weirdo, I love the endless sayings in these novelas. Just when you think you have heard them all, a new one pops up.
Susanlynn, Dante was talking about Juan embezzling at the company. Pedro initially was embezzling but Pedro has turned the tables on Juan and has set him up to move him out of his way. I wonder who Dante was talking to. Sounded like a private investigator. Pedro is forming his own company independent of the DelMonte company. ITA that Deb has no idea of what Dante is capable of. He could easily cut her loose once he no longer needs her.
Diana, I think Dante thought Alondra would do exactly what she is doing, throw Pedro completely off his game and distract him. I doubt he expected him to just accept her because he knows him. I think he wants to drive him crazy! Maybe he can get something past him if he’s too busy imagining mommy in the mirror to notice Dante in the background?
Pedro is already so close to the edge that I think Dante knows that it won't take much to push him over. As awful as Pedro is, I still think of him as that little boy tied by the ankle to the bed neglected and abused by Aurora. He is doomed . I hope Pedro takes Dante down with him . Juan will be the inconsolable . He has tried to protect Pedro his whole life .
Loved your metaphor of the ticking time bombs. Which will be the first to explode? WHo is more expendable? corni can't be too long for this world and I'm still waiting for Juli to drop dead as soon as she has baby Matea.
MadDog (perfect title) is going to push Paloma out of that house, to Sal and Juli's joy. For now it's clear to me that neither of the two know how a marriage works: he treats her like a trophy wife, she thinks it's not "important" for him to know that she plans to start her own business?? I mean, she doesn't have to ask permission, but what do they even talk about when alone?
Diana, I was thinking the same thing about the crib in the middle of the living room. If that was only Juan and Juli's home, by all means, keep the crib wherever, but there are 20 other people living under the same roof, do they plan to have the kid sleep between the couch and the wine bar?
Susanlynn, I found it odd that Bryan wanted to talk to Sara, after Pedro refused him; it's still too early for Sara to start seeing Pedro for who he really is, could it be that Bryan will ask for something unrelated and completly harmless?
Weirdo, I loved the PSAs too!
Darcy, "Maybe he can get something past him if he’s too busy imagining mommy in the mirror to notice Dante in the background?" I hadn't considered that but this makes perfect sense. Thank you for this food for thought - very well said!
"As awful as Pedro is, I still think of him as that little boy tied by the ankle to the bed neglected and abused by Aurora. He is doomed". You have such a big heart Susanlynn. Although what he was subjected to as a child was horrific, his sins of a very different nature are grievous.
I am still replaying the cold, callous way Pedro treated Bryan. He hates Augustin and his family so much. I hope Brandon stays out of sight.
Diana
"...do they plan to have the kid sleep between the couch and the wine bar?" LOL. I'm starting to wonder!
Diana
I don't think Dante really believes that Aurora can control Pedro. I'm sure he knows enough -- maybe just enough -- to conclude that this will drive Pedro off the edge into doing something very final that could land him in prison or the morgue. He also has that video and/or audio recording of Pedro torturing Victorio, which could be used to make him the prime suspect in the murder of that scum of the earth.
Love the eighth-grade image of Juli Stepford; she deserves it.
Cornelio couldn't meet his end soon enough. I don't think he was the intended target of the shooting; Amado already owed ridiculous money to the gang.
Someone soon will eventually see the connexion between Deborah and Cornelio.
Simon is even more delusional than Brayan about babies. Neither of these two have any idea what is involved for the women in their lives about this. I hope both Jessica and Paloma are on The Pill or have Norplant, or something similar.
While Deborah hasn't killed anyone (yet) she seems to relish the demise of others. Not sure she realizes that Dante is a killer. She seems too overconfident in her sex appeal to see that she could also become a victim when she ceases to be useful to him.
Does nobody ever see her facial expressions as we do?
So many PSAs last night. And thank you muchisimo for explaining "Perro no come perro" because I looked it up online and nothing said "honor among thieves", which translates it perfectly to an English speaker.
When Brayan asked Pedro for a raise, Pedro's response to that and also telling Brayan that his family will soon be homeless was just awful and uncalled-for. I was cringing. That scene served to further expose the depth of Pedro's mental illness and cruelty. Ugh.
And why the heck does Pedro have it in for Augustín and his family?
Simón still thinks he can control Paloma. Paloma does not think she has to tell her husband that she is planning to open a legal practice? Really??? Yeesh. This marriage is already in trouble. No surprise to Viewerville.
Oh, that crib, and the absolute nerve of Rosa to tell Juan she expects HIM to pay for it. That woman has cojones.
Speaking of Los Millán, was that textilera their only source of income? They were in financial trouble before Deb took it over. What will they do for money? Well, if nothing else, Princess Jessica might have to (gasp!) get a job.
The flashback of Sev telling Sal that Paloma is his (Sev's) daughter was interesting, and Irma never really answered Sal when he asked her. One has to wonder if the flashback was real or a red herring.
I thought Pedro had fired Bryan, but he just informed him they would all be homeless!
Love all the comments about the crib. Rosa and Juli are the only one’s excited over the baby, and just because it snared Juan. Rosa treats Juan like her personal AMT.
I hope Sara realizes at least a little of Pedro’s evil side before she decides to be his novia. But I’m afraid her sympathy for him will cause her to accept him.
I’m with everyone that’s fine with Rosa losing her shop. She is a social climber that thought Deb was so above her she became her friend and partner before really knowing her.
I didn’t realize Deb and Cornelio were still working together. He’s another unlikable one.
It seems like Dante is finding the mothers and letting them do their thing. We know he sent for Juan and Pedro’s mother. I wonder if he also sent for Lucas’. And if he ordered the attack on Lucas, was it to have Lucas flee.
Simón was nice for an episode or so. Around the honeymoon and when Sara helped Mateo. But I was surprised when Paloma went ahead with the marriage. Too many red flags.
Liz
30,000 pesos for a crib? Isn't that a bit much? Every episode Rosa gets more greedy and more annoying.
I hope Juan gets that DNA test before he is led to the altar via shotgun. I despise women who pull the Tyranny of the Weak.
Loved all the comments. This show is moving along and not just spinning its wheels like so many telenovelas do at some point as the end nears.
It will be interesting to see where the writers take us and how they chose to punish the wicked and reward the innocent victims.
I think Lucas was lucky to find A!ondra, the Cinderella in that family ,and that those two have earned a HEA.
Dante and Deb are both becoming overconfident which will be their undoing . yay... They will be headed to Dante's Inferno ... " Abandon hope all ye who enter here ."
I don't know what anvil Juli will receive thanks to her pompous, demanding attitude courtesy of Rosa, but she will get some kind of anvil. She wants to become queen of the hacienda by marrying Juan but keep Mateo on a string . Juli had better watch what she says to Pedro . She doesnt realize how volatile and unhinged he has become. She cant manipulate him like she does Juan. I hope Mateo has actually seen her true colors and is serious about Julieta II , the nicer version .
Adriana, you are right that at this rate we will be done very soon with only 28 episodes left. Too bad Uni had to ruin it for the recappers at least. Thank you for hanging in there, too! Anyway, I pesonally think that Brayan is going to try to save the family home by talking to Sara.
Urban, I, too, hope that Paloma and Jessica are on reliable birth control. I do not think that Simón would even care about what would be invoked with Roma having baby. He is too selfish. He reminds me of a toddler having a perpetual tantrum. I think that sex is the only thing that Brayan and Jessica really must enjoy in common. Jessica forced the issue and he was too weak to turn her down. She is just like her mother.
doris, it was hard finding a decent translation of the "perros saying. There is always one more proverb waiting in the wings when you least expect it. I think that the fabric store was the Millán's only source of income but I could be wrong. Pedro seems to hate anyone who is poor. Is that because he remembers what it was like to be in those shoes and now can push it as far away form him as he can to even more make a break from his past? Who knows?
Liz, "Rosa treats Juan like her personal AMT." Yes, Rosa didn't miss a beat in asking Juan for money. Prospi wasn't in favor but that didn't seem to mean a thing to Rosa. What's new?
RGVChick made a separate page for the Facebook groups that steal our content. They're about 10(!!!) If anyone knows anything, they should send an e-mail to her.
My comment is just a TL;DR. Here's the link to the page: https://caraycaray.blogspot.com/2022/09/caray-caray-under-attack-by-thieves.html?m=1
It happens all over the internet not just on Facebook and unfortunately it is nothing new and is ongoing. I fear to say that ten sites is just the tip of the iceberg.
Late to the party and nodding along with all the comments.
So Dante is in league with some mystery person. I have no idea what will happen next, besides Pedro freaking out with Aurora hanging around and Simon and Paloma heading for an explosion, and I love it. Simon and Paloma's issues reminds me of the old Ladies Home Journal column "Can This Marriage Be Saved?" that I used to read in my doctor's office. I'm guessing "yes," but Mad Dog will have to face some rude awakenings.
Is Mateo moving out of the mansion? I hope not. I love it when he ignores the hell out of Julieta there.
I wonder though if any of the cases involved couples who literally and figuratively just returned home from their honeymoon? These newlyweds were in trouble before the ink dried on their license.
Of couse Mateo doesn't knkow Juli#2 well enough, but I sort of hope he proposes just to rub salt in Juli#1's wound. :)
Diana
Those stairs are just begging for someone to fall or get pushed down them. I would gleefully watch Juli or Debs go tumbling down.
P.s. I think I remember William Levy and some other guy fighting on a Similar staircase and somersault down it.
