Caray, Caray!

*The recap for #35 will be up some time on Saturday. 

1.  Juan is telling Juli that once the child is born,  he will receive all of the love that he didn't get  BUT he wants the paternity test results ASAP.  Juli takes that as an opening to tell Juan that he needs to be close to the baby and that she is open to forming a family with him because she loves him and always will. She  hugs him but looks shifty. 

2. Mateo is at the garage working on his motorcycle.  Tempted by the beer he finds, he opens it, and thinks back on his conversation with Juan. Next, he remembers crying and cradling his father's ashes swearing to God he would never drink again. Just as he is going to take a drink, Brandon runs in and grabs the bottle out of his hand. Mateo tells him to butt out; this is a grown up thing. Brandon explains that  he came by to clean the horses and wanted to stop by and say "hi"  to Mateo. He didn't mean to interfere but he considers Mateo a really good person. He is grateful for the help that Mateo gave him with his robot. He shows Mateo the robot he built. Mateo is proud of what a good job he has done. Mateo offers to help him out with a few things. Brandon is one happy kid. 

3. Juli tells Juan that she is not giving up on winning him back. They were together for  so many years. She suggests that they get married and provide their child with a home or  would he prefer that she get an abortion.  He tells her that he would prefer that she stop trying to manipulate him.  Having two parents together has nothing to do with making a child happy. The child needs to see love and affection. She concludes that includes what he doesn't feel for her. She doesn't want to hear any more excuses from him. The real reason is that it would interrupt his plans with Sara. He asks her to not misinterpret  what he is saying. He repeats that he said he would be responsible for his child. All she knows is that he is thinking more of his own happiness than  of the baby she is expecting.  He tells her that  she has no idea what he is talking about. That has always been one of their problems.  He cannot promise anything beyond recognizing the baby as his own. She finally says she accepts his condition and they will get the paternity test done whenever he wants. She is only asking that he not put distance between them  during the pregnancy. She doesn't want to go through it all without the father of her child. He suggest that she could come to live at the hacienda.  Juli smiles. 

4. Simón comes in on crutches accompanied by Bea. He tells Modesto that some guys jumped him and took a blade to his foot. Bea says they didn't cut any tendons so he will be okay.  He didn't tell Juan because he is sure he will be able to figure out who ordered the attack. It cannot be that complicated.  Simón thinks that  the good thing is that he now has his novia Bea by his side. They kiss.

5. Adela goes to visit Sara in the hospital. Adela been praying for her. Sara is happy to see her. Adela likes Sara. She has helped her out so much. She also feels so sorry that Sara has had to go through what she has. Adela sits on the bed and grabs Sara's hand. Deb explodes on the scene telling Adela to let her daughter go. Adela jumps up as Deb warns her not to grab her hand since she is not family. She orders Adela to leave. Sara is flabbergasted by Deb's reaction and still in pain, tells her not to be rude.  Adela has gotten the  hint and says she is leaving as Deb guides her to the door. 

6. Juli admits to  Juan she would love  to live at the hacienda but doesn't want to cause problems between him and Sara. He doesn't want to upset Sara but he wants his first child to be born on the hacienda just like his parents would have wished.  Juli kisses him on the cheek.  She will take care of her parents who had expected them to get married. Juan says that is all he can offer her for now. 

7. Outside of Sara's room, Debs says she hopes that Adela said nothing to her daughter. Adela say she has no idea what Deb is talking about. Deb smiles and tells her to make her something really tasty for supper for when she gets back.  

8. Sara tells Deb not to treat Adela like she did because Adela has been very good to her. Deb says she is more concerned that Sara is okay and out of danger. Sara says she was afraid of dying but no more.Deb kisses her head as Sara smiles. Sara then asks her mother what she did not want Adela to tell her. Deb says it had to do with Juan and Juli.  There is something going on between those two. Sara looks preoccupied. . 

9. In he middle of a hallway at Avocado Central, Pedro sees Juan and applauds and congratulates him. He asks what  he is planning on doing with Juli now that she is expecting his baby. Pedro thinks it is funny because Juan said he  thought Pedro would end up with all of the women. Juan is not in the mood for his stupid jokes. Pedro says he is going to have to listen to him because he wants him to leave Sara.  Juan physically drags his brother into his office.  Pedro says that Juan's problem is that he thinks that he only likes Sara to be in competition with him.  That is not the case. He really cares for Sara and he is going to  take her away from Juan so he will not put her into danger again. He will not allow Juan to humiliate and hurt Sara when she finds out that Juli is expecting his child. Juan tells him to keep out of his business. Pedro points out that is interesting because  Juan can get into everyone else's business. Juan gets in his face and asks how dare he judge him after all of the mistakes he has made. He isn't the perfect father. He keeps on trying to take his son away from his mother. Pedro says he can say what he wants but Sara and Simón are in the hospital because of him. Juan is surprised to hear that Simón is in the hospital. Pedro says they  are both about to lose their lives because of him. He also thinks that Juan had Henry killed. 

10. Deb says she didn't want to make Sara  feel bad. It was only a comment. She starts to talk about having "her sixth sense" but Sara has heard enough. Deba asks if she trusts Juan. All Sara can answer is  that Juan and Juli only have a professional  relationship. Deb lets her think what she wants and says there is no reason for her to be disturbed. Sara says she isn't but she is bothered by the fact that Juli would take advantage of the situation to get closer to Juan. She quickly adds that Juan has her total trust. Deb is no longer smiling. Sara asks if she is hiding something from her. Deb responds saying "No."

11. Juan is upset that  Pedro (who is still holding his injured rib ha!) is accusing him of something very sensitive without any proof. Pedro says it was mighty convenient that right after the attack, Henry was killed. Juan reminds him that they were not the only ones that had problems with Henry. As for Sara, he would NEVER put her into danger. Pedro reminds Juan that although he was also injured in the attack,  it is obvious that Sara took the brunt of it. He  adds it was obvious that they went after her to get to Juan.  Juan asks him if he doesn't think that he feels terrible enough about what happened and that he his brother is confronting him instead of calming and defending him. He is his friend, not his enemy. Pedro informs Juan that he is the only one who can tell him the truth about himself. Juan  lives as if he never makes a  mistake and nobody is supposed to say a thing when he does but, on the other hand, Juan feels like he can judge them all. Juan insists that he is not only worried about Sara but also about him  knowing that he was wounded. Juan proclaims his  love for Sara. Sara and his brothers have always been his priority. Juan admits that now someone  is still sending him threats against Sara. Pedro says he knew it and wants to know what was in the threats. Juan says he doesn't want to read them again. They need to keep calm and watch their steps. Pedro is going to see Sara. Juan doesn't get it. HE is the one who gets to visit Sara. She is HIS novia. Pedro could not care less. He thinks that Sara could  fall in love with him. Juan has no interest in  fighting with him. He tells Pedro to stick to work and he will take care of Sara. Pedro brushes  his request off  but has  a question for his brother. How is he planning on dealing with the fact that Juli will be giving birth to his first born? Juan says that is HIS problem. Pedro is prohibited from saying anything to Sara about that. Pedro laughs and says "of course" as he leaves the office. Juan is left stewing in his reality.

12. Paloma  is still sitting in Simón's arms  on the  couch at the  Del Monte's. She was so afraid because she didn't want anything bad to happen to him. he kisses her forehead. He tries to convince her how much he loves her. The only person he thought of when they were torturing him was her the love of his life. Bea says that she loves him, too.  He asks her not to leave him. She is the only  real thing that he has in this life. She reminds him of the many people who care for him. He isn't sure about that  but nobody is as important as she is to him.  There is no obstacle that they cannot overcome because they are  together. She agrees as he goes on about never being able to think badly about her or put her down. She will always be by his side not above her or below her. They kiss.

13. Modesto has gone to get Berta at Rosa's. Berta fills Modesto in on the goings on. Rosa is happy because Juli has turned up pregnant without  being married. He can understand why they need somebody like Berta there. is there to pick Berta up. Berta  first  needs to get some copal, etc. to do a cleansing.  Modesto grabs her hand to get her  to sit with him. She withdraws her hand so nobody gets the wrong idea.  Berta goes for her bag as Rosa appears asking where she is going. 

14. Amado gives Sal the news that Simón got knifed in the street. He is okay. It ended up not being anything serious. Amado asks if he has seen Cornelio. Sal asks why he is looking for him as Amado leaves running to find him. 

15. Dante informs Juan that all of Henry's contracts have been cancelled once and for all. Also, Tadeo has been legally given the Del Monte surname.  Juan is surprised it happened so quickly and wonders if Bea accepted that decision or not. Dante has no answers. Juan is worried about what Pedro will do when he finds out that the boy is a part of the family. Dante advises him to stay out of his brother's business.  Juan says he cannot stay out of any of his brothers' problems the way things are. He tells Dante that he wants to keep the increased security. Dante asks if anything new has happened. Juan says he found out that Henry was behind the attack on Sara and Pedro but there are still threats being made even after his murder.  Dante's shocked and concerned as  thinks back on having shot Henry and telling him that  he would be paying for what he did to Sara. Juan asks Dante if he is okay. Dante says he is and will investigate who is behind those messages. Juan wants to make sure that Sara is not left unguarded for even a moment. Dante nods and leaves. 

16. Rosa is upset that Modesto has come to see Berta during her work hours. He says that he needs an urgent favor. Rosa insists that Berta is not available. Berta begs Rosa to allow her to go and liberate Santa Catalina from the  bad vibes that surround everything out there.  Rosa doesn't get why he would have to involve her in such common things that are in such  bad taste.  Berta insists that those are the "things" that she is in to. She tells Rosa that since an heir is on the way, they have to make sure there are no  problems with the  EVIL EYE. Modesto smiles as Rosa reacts in surprise and horror. Rosa hadn't thought about that but Berta  is right. She tells Berta to go forth and to do her thing. Berta says she did the same thing at the Spanish ambassador's house there in Mexico with marvelous results! Berta finally gets her bag and is soon leaving with Modesto. 

17. Pedro goes to vent in Juli's office.  He cannot take her stupid smile or that imbecile Juan who  he has no idea what awaits him but he will.  Juli tells him to be patient. The envy that he feels  stops him from thinking.  She says there is no better role for him than playing the victim. If things don't turn out with the enemy, he can always turn around  and cry for himself. He turns in rage and grabs her by the throat, slams her into the desk and swears that if she makes fun of him . . . She removes her hand (she should have kneed him in the crotch) and says "and what??? Pedro Del Monte??? "

18. Dante tells Juan  that he has to calm down. Everything with Pedro and Sara has him stressed out. Juan  is sick of Pedro acting as if they were still kids. Dante reminds him that Pedro has always been that way having to prove that he was better than Juan.  Juan asks Dante if that is a reason for  Pedro to be embezzling at the company. He explains that he has known about it for a while.  He never brought it up so as not to upset his father but now he has had enough. He will never allow Pedro to run the company into bankruptcy.  He asks if Dante knew anything about this. Dante is upset. He never knew because if he did he would have told his father or Juan right away. Juan says that Pedro is getting his last nerve. Dante asks what kind of measures is he planning on  taking. Juan says nothing because that would mess up the will and inheritance. The last thing he needs now is a legal battle with him or his brothers. Dante asks him to be very careful. Juan wants Dante to open an account with Sara's name on it based on is own finances.He does not  want her to know. Dante asks him if he is not risking a lot to protect her. Juan just wants to make sure that she never ever suffers again. 

19. Mateo has helped out Brandon with his robot. They are all going to the packing plant. Dulce is there and asks Mateo to be her godfather for her quinceañera. Sal can't do  it because he is going to be the "godfather of the venue" (provide her venue: the cantina).  Since her father cannot be there,  Dulce  wants Mateo to take his place as her  "cake godfather" (provide her cake) and dance her  waltz with her.  Brandon and his family hold him in high esteem. Mateo has to smile.

20. Pedro tells his "little sister-in-law"  not to make fun of him again. Juli tells him he better not lay a hand on her again. If they are going to be allies, they better get along.  She tells Pedro that Juan asked her if she wanted to come live at the hacienda. He imagines it is because of the baby depending on the baby being Juan's. He knows her very well and that she is capable of doing anything at a moment's notice now. She insists that the baby is Juan's and if Pedro is smart, he will stick with her. Does he want to work together or not?

21. Amado confronts Cornelio about having Simón assaulted. He realizes that is why he wanted to put him in contact with those thugs. He tells him he is going nuts. Cornelio grabs his ear and head tells him to mind his own business. Amado breaks away and leaves.  Bea comes out and wonders why Amado was there and angry. Cornelio lies and says he was being stupid talking about betting and playing games of chance. Cornelio tells her that he told Amado that he would tell his uncle if he kept it up. 

22. Berta, followed by Modesto with the "copal", (Nahuatl for a kind of  incense made from tree resin),  is making sure  the hacienda is getting  a good "cleansing"  and  ridding it of the bad vibes she detected.  They both start to pass branches over and strike the furniture  to aid in the  task. He hope this will all regulate everything with all of the arguments that have been going on. He wonders  if this will get rid of the Evil Eye.  Berta shakes her head and thinks that everyone has to deal with "potholes"(baches) in their lives. Modesto  says this is beyond a "pothole", it is more like a "sinkhole" (socavón).  Berta offers Modesto her hand in friendship if he ever needs anyone to listen to him. He grabs it with both of his. He thanks her and tells her he is sure that she will help him somehow. She nervously pulls hand back and holds the branches like a  bouquet or a baby.

23. Lucas tells Alondra that he is upset about something about his mother, his real mother. Dante told him that she is alive. 

24. Juan goes to  see Bea and wants to talk to her. She asks that he keep his voice down because Cornelio is in Tadeo's room taking care of him since he is sick. Juan gives her the news that Tadeo' surname had been changed to  Del Monte.  All she can think about is that Pedro is going to take her son away. Juan says that is not the case. Juan says no and is there to make a proposal so she doesn't have problems with Pedro or Cornelio. 

25. Juli goes to visit Mateo at the hacienda. He is happy a first that she came to se him. Getting straight to the point, she tells him that Juan invited her to come live at the hacienda. Mateo is glad because she always belonged at Santa Catalina. She says it isn't what he thinks.  The only reason Juan  invited her to come live there was because she is going to have his baby.  Mateo turns and starts to walk away. She makes it clear that he is prohibited from talking about what went on between the two of them or about the "great love" he has for her. He concludes that both things might turn out to be big obstacles in her relationship with Juan. She says since they are both living under the same roof, she doesn't want to have problems with either of them. Pedro says he is able to stop his declarations of love to  her but love itself cannot be hidden and he will never stop loving her.   Juli cannot imagine Mateo having any kind of hope now that Juan is going to be the father of his future nephew. Mateo questions that Juan is the father, maybe it is him. Juli snaps back that the baby is not his. It is Juan's. She warns him not to get any ideas. She would rather be dead than the mother of his children. Calmly, Mateo thanks her for clearing things up and tells he not to worry because now with all the pain he is feeling, maybe he will be the first one to die. He hurries away from her as she watches him leave.

TIME JUMP: TWO WEEKS LATER

26. Deb is helping Sara get out of bed and ready to go home.  Sara is just beaming  thinking about going home and returning to her Juan. 

27. The brothers are leaving the hacienda and talking about they have to do. Juan is going to pick up Sara. Pedro wants to come, too, but Juan tells him he needs to go to the meeting dealing with  the program of workers' benefits. They need the latest details. Mateo announces  "Long live the queen! The kings will willingly die for her!" and adds that he is going to the quinceañera. Simón is going to the packing plant and then to Sal's. Lucas is going with Juan and then will be off to the quinceañera. Before he leaves, Pedro wants to know when Juan is going to let Sara know what is going on with Juli. 

28.  Deb and Sara are chatting in her hospital room. Deb gives her the news. She tells her she is done with spineless Prospi. Sara think that is for the best. Her mother shouldn't be getting into those kind of problems. Sara hopes that things will be better with Simón. Deb doubts it. She didn't tell her BUT a few weeks back that  machista crazy psycho Simón was attacked and almost died himself. Sara asks how he is doing. She says it is as if nothing happened to him. Those adopted boys are immune to pain, blows. . . Deb becomes distracted and complains  that the maid cannot even be there to take Sara's suitcase for her. Deb helps Sara off the bed and they prepare to leave.

29. Dulce is in  her quinceañera dress and is modeling it for Brandon's family. Adela tells her she is beautiful and that she holds special place in her heart. Agustín reminds her to save the second dance for him. Jessica says that neither she nor her sisters ever had quinceañeras.  They got sent on a trip instead. She looks like she knows what she missed. Adela says that is a pity because she is sure she would have been so pretty in her quinceañera dress. Adela tells Brayan and Jessica that  she is going to miss them so  much now that they are  leaving but you have to allow your children to fly.   Brandon tells them that is enough talk about them going to live at the "serape"  mansion. It is time to go to mass at the chapel at Santa Catalina. Dulce asks Adela to bless her as they leave and Adela blesses her as a mother would. They all leave for the chapel. 

30. Rosa guides Juli into breakfast at their house as if she is made of glass. Prospi asks Rosa what is going on.  He remarks that, for a while now, she has been treating Juli  as if she were pregnant. Rosa and Juli cannot decide on who will tell him. Rosa announces to  Prospi that God has blessed their home. He is going to be a grandfather. Prospi chokes on his food and spits it out. Rosa calls Berta to come help him. Berta hits Prospi sharply between his shoulder blades and the rest of the food pops out. Juli apologizes for not telling  him earlier but she wanted to be sure she was pregnant. She is having Juan's baby. Prospi asks "Juan? Which  Juan?"  An exasperated Rosa asks him "which Juan does he think??"  She adds it is the Del Monte Juan;  Severianos's son. Prospi is speechless as he starts to cough again. 

31. A smiling Bea is getting Tadeo ready to go spend a few days at Santa Catalina. He is all excited but  is still confused about who  his father is. She explains that he has two fathers that he can love just the same and not feel bad for either of them.  Pedro will never stop being his father. She doesn't see that Cornelio has come in and has heard what she said. 

32. Modesto is at the hacienda remembering Catalina running after Severiano as he was walking down the road out of the hacienda.  He was trailing behind.  She was following and telling Severiano  not to go and make things more complicated than they were.  Severiano insisted he has to go. He would not put up having everyone gossiping about him. She said talking about him or talking about Irma???  Severiano wanted Sal to know that he and Irma were not lovers.  Catalina asked him if they were not lovers,  then what were they? She finally caught  up to him and confronted Severiano saying his lovers were always popping up. They all fell for him and surrendered to what he told them.  He listened to their problems, he consoled them and then took them to bed. Severiano insisted that she was imagining things. She told him to go then and confront Sal and protect Irma.  Catalina says that she was just the idiot that tolerated everything.  She turned to leave and and he grabbed her. He insisted that she didn't know what she was talking about. She disagreed and said she thought that is why she was known as "Santa Catalina" because she put up with everything that he dished out. She had come to certain understandings with him so that she could pretend that they were  a happy married couple. Severiano asked her not to say those things. She was the love of his life. She told him that she was the one who had to make up lies every night.  He went to hug her. She pushed him away. He tipped his hat to her and left  her sobbing.  Modesto slowly approached her. She told him that in spite of everything including Severiano being with other women,  he needed to go with Severiano and protect him for her. In the present, Modesto concludes that same story is repeating itself and he needs to take care of Juan.  He feels so guilty. 

33. Prospi is up on his feet pacing and complaining that this cannot be.  He thought that they had reached a certain level of trust.  Rosa says she would have told him but Juli said no.  Juli excuses herself from breakfast because she is nauseous. Prospi presumes that she is going to marry Juan.  Juli says no.  Berta interrupts saying that women in Mexico have changed and  do not need to be married anymore to have a baby.  If looks could kill . . .  Berta leaves to get more coffee.  Prospi thinks that  Juan isn't getting married to her because he  is in love with Sara.  Juli wants to know what the big deal is.  Juli knows that  her parents were very much in love when they got married  before  she was going to be born, right?  Prospi tells her to stop right there and show some respect for him and her "saintly" mother. Juli insists she is only telling the truth.  She continues saying  that she and her sisters were  conceived in love, weren't they?  Rosa say, of course, she conceived her in a lot of love!  Prospi is silent but smiling. 

34. Juan supports Sara as they walk into the hacienda with Deb and Lucas bringing up the rear. Modesto is there to greet her.  He waited to see her before going to the cantina to deliver the cake for Dulce's quinceañera.  Sara thanks him and tells him to go. Modesto has to pause because all Deb wants to know is if dinner is ready because Sara is vey hungry and Adela is off partying. Sara smiles and tells her enough. Sara doesn't want t have a single problem to deal with today. Sara wants to go to the quniceañera but her mother reminds her she is fresh out of the hospital and doesn't want her around those kind of people. Surprisingly, Juan agrees and says she has to rest. Modesto tells Sara  he will make her something to eat that will cure everything before he leaves. Lucas leaves to go to the party with Alondra. Deb tells Modesto that she wants some shrimp al diablo with three cheese cream and garlic bread. He asks her if she has the phone number of a restaurant to fulfill her whims, because he has a  commitment. He excuses himself. 

35. Back at Avocado Central, Pedro and Dante have just come out of a meeting. Pedro brags to Dante how very well  he came off at the meeting. They didn't need St. Juan after all.  Dante informs him that  it was no big deal since it was a "basic" kind of meeting informing the employees about benefits.  Pedro asks if Dante is doubting his abilities like Juan. Dante laughs and tells him not to torment himself.  He says Pedro has the idea of what  he wants to be but he is still missing something to be like Juan. Dante adds he needs some kind of "plus"; something extra.  Pedro says that Sara was discharged so he is going to the hacienda. He doesn't care if St. Juan or the president or whoever is bothered by that. Dante loses it and shouts at him to get to work and fix everything that he has messed up. Dante tells him that  he found out that Juan knows about his embezzlements. He didn't tell Pedro because he knows how he is and  how he would confront  Juan rather than using his head to think about it.  He cannot fool somebody like Juan. Juan  is a leader and if he has not thrown him out it it is only out of the goodness of his heart, nothing else.  Pedro remembers his father telling him how very deeply disappointed he was in him and how he wanted to talk to him at the office the next day.  Pedro admits to Dante that his father knew.  Dante says that  he took that secret to the grave with him. Juan found out on his own. He doesn't know that Severiano knew about it. Pedro says he could not care less. He is ready for any accusation. Dante quietly laughs. Pedro says that he already told Sara that Juan was embezzling at the company. Dante goes beserk  and warns Pedro not to involve Sara in any of his stupid ideas. 

36. Juan visits with Sara in her room as Modesto stands at the door. He tells her to let Juan spoil  her.  Sara grabs Juan's hand and tells him how affectionate he has been with her since she was in the hospital. He withdraws his hand and Sara is still smiling as she asks him if something happened . . .
