La Herencia # 64, Friday, 9/30/2022, Portrait of a Psychopath

Sara enters the office where Juan is waiting and declares that he was right, they need to talk. Juan tries to open the subject by telling Sara how important she is to him but Sara interrupts. She needs to tell him something important! She was going to wait til morning and tell him when all her brothers were present but there’s no point in waiting, she needs to tell him that she’s pregnant!!! (Knock me over with a feather I thought for sure she’d beat around the bush for a few more episodes before blurting that one out!)

Cori is drinking again, or more likely just still drinking, when Sal returns to the bar and gives the good news that Matti isn’t exactly a criminal mastermind and Paloma was able to prove Brandon innocent easily enough. Corni lets Sal know he replaced the bottle of wine that Sal let him borrow, he says something about giving it to a friend for his big date (I think) but he got a new bottle and put the bottle back where it belongs. Sal looks confused. Also Corni continues, Prospi came by to see Sal but he’s gone now. Sal gets up and walks to the bar, we hear him thinking that it could have been Corni who poisoned Deb as he looks down at the no longer missing bottle of wine remembering Brandon running in to tell them about Deb’s downfall (I know nothing about wine so I couldn’t tell if it was an expensive brand or not, also I don’t remember what brand Deb had or what Prospi bought…..maybe if the patio is more eagle-eyed someone can clue us in on whether or not that view of the wine label is significant) Corni looks bored, unconcerned, and not at all guilty.

Back to Juan and Sara, and Juan wants to celebrate and probably declare his undying love and support but Sara doesn’t let him. She starts to tell him that she isn’t going to ask him for anything and I’m pretty sure Juan knows exactly where this conversation is going because he begs Sara to talk about this calmly and not say anything that they will both regret. Big dramatic longing look into each other’s sad eyes.

Pedro is still torturing Aurora, or rather waiting for the chloroform to wear off so Mommy will wake up and he can continue to torture her. She is tied up and gagged and Pedro is sitting ominously with a bread roll as she comes to. He’s crying and talking about how she said he was the traitor who always took Juan’s food. Pedro goes on the obligatory ‘I hate you, I waited so long for this moment’ rant. Listing all Aurora’s sins and how evil she is. He hates her the way everyone hates him! He’s never been loved or cared about and the only woman he’s ever loved despises him and it's all because of what she’s done to him. The curse of being her son! Pedro is all up in Mommy’s face with the bread now and then he hits her on the head with it. I think the look on his face is supposed to be menacing but I actually laughed. Auora seems scared though and is now whimpering. Pedro walks over a few steps and picks up a box and pours a very liberal amount of white powder on said bread! (There might be something wrong with me, because at this point it totally occurred to me that it would be really funny if it was just like baking soda or something and Pedro was psychologically torturing Mom by making her think it’s rat poisoning….)

Simon and Paloma are alone in their room and Paloma says she doesn’t want to keep fighting, they shouldn’t be going to bed mad. Simon, however, wants to talk about why Paloma was checking his lap top AND talking about his anti-depression issues. And was she speculating on whether or not he poisoned Deb? Paloma tries to demure and say she knows it wasn’t him but she can’t quite suppress her doubts and adds, ‘it wasn’t, was it?’ (LOL) Paloma swears she wasn’t purposely trying to check his lap top, she was just going to turn it off since he forgot. Simon can’t get past the idea that she thinks he’s a murder. Does she still have doubts about him killing his dad too? Paloma simply responds by saying ‘Did you?’ Simon can’t believe Paloma doubts him and actually thinks him capable of murder. She tries to reason with him but he says he believes in her and she should have faith in her own husband! (I believe you Simon! I wouldn’t marry you cause I don’t need that negativity in my life, but I believe you didn't murder your daddy or poison Deb!)

Back at the torture chamber, Pedro flashes back to another abuse from Aurora and we see little Pedro tied by the leg and Aurora beating him and Juan with a belt. Then a flash to the scene with the rat poisoning incident and Aurora asking what is stronger his will to live or his hunger? Pedro almost eats the bread but Juan stops him saying he’ll get him something to eat. Back to the present, Pedro takes down the gag and predictably asks mom if her will to live is stronger than her hunger. He shoves the bread in her mouth. Aurora is bleeding and foaming from the mouth so I’m guessing it’s not baking soda. Pedro watches mom struggle and says she was wrong, they aren’t the same, Pedro is much worse than her. Aurora dies and Pedro cries…..I don’t think it’s regret but maybe just more trauma surfacing.

Back to Juan and Sara talking. Juan wants to work something out and Sara doesn’t want anyone to get hurt. She hid her pregnancy so he could make the right decision for his family but she knows she will be showing sooner than later and with her nausea she figured she couldn't hide it much longer. Juan tries to tell Sara that she can’t just make decisions for both of them and they have to decide together but Sara says that yes, she can decide alone. It’s her right, and her family! She is going to raise her child alone, away from Santa Catalina and away from all the violence! She is going to be a single mother; the decision is made and Juan is in no position to give his opinion! She wants to raise child away from all the problems of the inheritance. Once upon a time she loved Juan more than she ever thought she could love someone but now that love belongs to her child and she has to do what’s best for him or her. (This sounds all well and good, but I wonder what said child will think years from now when they want to know why they don’t have a daddy if Sara just tells them that she decided dad wasn’t part of the family and that was her call to make. I mean I can understand leaving the insane asylum (aka Santa Catalina) but banishing daddy from the child’s life completely is cruel to both Juan and the child IMO)

Simon is now in the hallway and flashes back to an argument between Sev and Catalina that he overheard. Catalina was clearly at her wits end and Sev was begging her to work things out for the sake of the boys. Simon looks up at the ceiling and says he can’t let this happen, it’s unclear what ‘this’ is. Lucas comes upon his brother and asks why he’s talking to the ceiling but he doesn’t answer and instead asks if he can sleep in Lucas’s room. Lucas asks if Simon fought with Paloma but before the inquiry can go anywhere Simon notices Lucas’s shiny new black eye and asks what happened. Lucas tells Simon that Pedro decked him and the brothers turn the conversation to how Pedro is losing all of his marbles and they are worried about him.

Speaking of crazy, Pedro is burying mommy (shirtless!!) and Modesto is still watching!!! (Does nobody understand the concept of run for help around here? Call 911?? Like Agustin before him, Modesto just watches the horror and does nothing!)

Paloma wakes up alone in bed and wonders where Simon is. She says it’s really late but Sara’s still up (and as we’ll see soon most of the rest of the house is too) so I don’t know how late it really is. Sara and Paloma meet in their mutual distress and offer each other a comforting hug.

Sal is still studying the wine bottle and remembering more of his earlier conversation with Corni. We learn that Sal questioned again why Corni wanted the wine when he prefers beer. This time Corni’s story is that while he had Brayan were super drunk, they got the idea to drink the most expensive bottle of wine in the house. But now Corni’s replaced it, so no harm no foul, right? Sal wonders to himself, what do I do? He asks God to help him……I don’t think he’s asking for guidance in how to not jump to conclusions when all you have is very little circumstantial ‘evidence’.

Juan is staring at his favorite picture of daddy, remembering Sara’s words and trying to hold back the tears in his eyes. Mateo enters munching away at his late night snack (still wondering how late, Paloma). Juan brings up what Pedro said, and assures Mateo that Pedro was wrong their parents were very proud of him and they loved him. Like Lucas and Simon before them, Juan and Mateo start asking what is wrong with Pedro, it's a long list guys! Mateo turns the convo sharply to the left by asking Juan if he looked closely at the paternity test results from Juli.

Cut to another who poisoned Deb montage and it occurs to me that we still haven’t seen the newly awakened Deb since the moment those eyes popped open last night!

Speaking of people I haven’t missed, poor Adela is awakened from her slumber by shoe-throwing Rosa coming to return Jessica to her rightful owner…um, I mean husband. (I’m combining all this into one scene and condensing cuz it was basically a FFWD moment) This scene is supposed to be comic relief, I guess. But married people fighting like kids on the elementary school playground is not all that funny! Same ole cheating accusations and Brayan looking uncomfortable but not coughing up the Pedro is a sadistic torture freak explanation.  Brayan should run, run, run from Jess's drama; but the newlyweds kiss and make up after first throwing their childish fits. The funniest part is Brandon clearly recognizing the idiocy of the moment and asking if he can go back to bed.

Juan starts to ask Mateo if he still thinks the baby is his, but they are interrupted by Julieta (also still awake and dressed this ‘late’ at night) running to tell them that Modesto is sick, and come quick! Modesto is in the kitchen emptying his stomach into the kitchen sink. Everyone is panicked and Mateo calls a doctor. Even Juli seems genuinely concerned, which is odd. Modesto faints.

Sara and Paloma are blissfully unaware of the goings on downstairs and still talking. Sara says she’s made a decision but she’s waiting until morning to announce it. First she will think long and hard tonight. Paloma says she knows Sara can count on her and Bea. Sara asks Paloma what’s wrong and she admits she and Simon fought about what happened to Deb. Sara says they won’t really know what happened until Deb wakes up and tells them it’s better not to make accusations without proof! (LOL) More talk about Sara missing Mommy and she admits to Paloma she’s pregnant. She says she doesn’t want to cause a problem or come between Juan and Juli. Paloma believes her but tells her to be careful because the wicked witch won’t believe her for a second and she’ll attack. Pedro too will be a problem – a rejected man and a jealous woman make for a dangerous combination.

By the time Pedro makes it downstairs, Modesto has rallied and is insisting he is fine and doesn’t need a doctor. He should try that about the gastrointestinal problem that Sara and Bea used earlier. Modesto looks at Pedro and then looks away and the all but cowers as Pedro walks his way. (Am I the only one who would get the hell out of Dodge and not just go back to the house after witnessing one of my housemates committing a horrific murder??? Police station anyone?)

Early the next morning Pedro and Juli are taking a lovely morning stroll discussing normal every day things like killing babies. Well, Pedro wants to kill the baby and Juli wants to kill both Sara and baby. Remember the mean nasty untamable horse Juli was asking that ranch hand about yesterday? Well, it’s all set, Sara will go on a little horseback ride and next thing they know, problem solved. Pedro snaps again that they are ONLY killing the baby not Sara! These two trade evil stares but I don’t think either is intimidated by the other. Pedro takes off indoors but Juli doesn’t follow.

Juan and Lucas amble down the famous staircase. Juan is going to work while Lucas is going to stay to take care of Modesto. Juan asks about Simon and Lucas (who really is as gossipy as Pedro says) tells him about Simon’s fight with Paloma. Juan wishes they could go a whole day without anyone fighting in their house and they also mention Sara and Lucas’s therapy – Julieta Baby is on her way for a house-call session. Mateo arrives and I actually laughed as he walks into the room and asks if anyone has heard from Brayan, it seems he hasn’t come to work for a few days! (I don’t know why it’s so funny that they are finally noticing this I mean it’s not like they don’t have plenty of things going on to keep them from noticing) Simon arrives next and makes a snide comment about Pedro being out horseback riding and how he’ll surely be late for work AGAIN as is the new norm, but Pedro enters the room a moment later ready to leave after all. Adela is right behind him however, and sorry Simon, but everyone is going to be late to work today because Sara is calling a family meeting in the study.

Sara waits and as her brothers arrive, Simon makes the obvious comment about Sara not belonging in Daddy’s study. Sara says she should have taken her place in this study from day one. She should’ve been the woman they all wanted to believe she was but she didn't because she wanted a relationship with her brothers! It was a mistake and only Lucas truly accepted her. She thanks Lucas for that but she no longer cares what her brothers think of her. She never should have come to Santa Catalina. This fight has cost her too much and her mother is in the hospital. She is going to fight for someone else now. (She stops short of actually telling them she’s pregnant) She’s going to give them all what they’ve wanted since day one, she’s leaving for good. She renounces the inheritance and they are now the only heirs of Del Monte! Juan and Lucas look upset, Pedro looks normal – ie. Pissed off.

At Prospi’s, Berta comments that Rosa is still sleeping and Jessica is now with her husband. Berta comments on all the positive changes in the house and how Rosa has proven to be a good person since she’s reconciled her marriage and changed her attitude; but Berta asks, is Senor Prospi a good person? Prospi looks appropriately shocked by the question.

Brayan is setting up the bar (I bet the brothers Del Monte have already forgotten him again) and he flashes back to Pedro torturing him. He drops his chair and Corni tells him to be careful. He asks what is wrong, at first Brayan just tells Corni about Jessica returning but then he starts crying and admits that Pedro tried to kill him. He tells him all the details of the horrible torture and says he doesn’t know why he suddenly changed his mind and let him live but he did. Corni suggests to go report it to the police! But Brayan tells him that Pedro threatened to do the same to his mom, his grandpa and his brother if he did.

Juan tries to talk Sara out of her decision. Pedro asks why she’s changed her mind about the inheritance now. Lucas tells her to tell everyone the real reason and Mateo starts to ask what that reason is when Simon interrupts with who cares why, just leave! He tells her she should have made this decision a long time ago. Sara replies by telling Simon not to worry because he will never see her again. She’s tired of trying to understand him and now she doesn’t care what he thinks of her. Juan interrupts and says she’s not going to be able to do what she is planning, there’s something he needs to clear up. Juan goes to the door and lets Dante in. He asks Dante to tell Sara the news, and Dante says that Sara’s challenge to the will has been settled! (What??) Sara says she can still withdraw her challenge (At least I think that's what she said, the broadcast hiccupped here and I couldn’t hear her very well) and that’s exactly what she is going to do!

Prospi says of course he isn’t a bad man, why would Berta say that? Berta stutters and starts to talk her way around the accusation but Rosa magically arrives to shush Berta. She rattles off something about how Berta thought Prospi was being too hard on Jessica but now Rosa knows Prospi was right. Long suffering Prospi comments about how he’s wrong if he does nothing and wrong if he does something, ugh, who can understand you ladies! He stalks off.

Back to the study and Sara accuses Juan of planning this to get her to stay. Well, it won’t work, she’s leaving no matter what. Pedro asks her to say and not let Juan come between them. Sara says there is no them there never was and Pedro says yes, there is a them. Pedro gets aggressive and pushes a chair forward and Juan immediately tries to jump between them but Simon holds them back. Pedro continues to try to appeal to Sara and Mateo actually speaks up! (Not sure if he’s defending Sara or just mocking Pedro) He tells his brother Sara isn’t the only woman in the world and Pedro is just too accustomed to seducing them all. Pedro calls Mateo a drunk and tells him to shut up and Mateo jumps at Pedro. Simon again gets in between and tells Pedro he can’t solve everything with his fists. Mateo jumps again (I’m actually liking Mateo in this scene! Let him hit him!) and this time Sara screams for everyone to stop! She’s tired of all the violence! She yells at her brothers to grow up and stop fighting. Simon predictably tells her to stop acting innocent because she is the cause of all their fights! Sara tells Simon he has no idea what he is talking about or why she’s leaving so he should shut his trap. Simon looks a little taken aback and surprisingly doesn’t retort. Sara turns to Dante (and the viewers which was a very odd camera angle) and says this is why he was ignoring her! He knew she didn’t want to continue with the challenge to the will and so he avoided her. Juan says Dante was just following orders. Lucas says Sara doesn’t have to leave, especially not now. He asks where the strong Sara who challenged everyone is at. Sara says that Sara is outside on the ground where Simon put her! (Ouch!!!) Simon once again looks challenged but doesn’t immediately respond. Sara says she’s there with all the humiliations she suffered and all the danger she and her mother were put in just because they didn’t belong in this family. But now it’s over, she doesn’t care about the inheritance and she doesn’t care about them (Lucas looks cut by that); she only cares about herself and what she has in…..she again stops short of announcing her pregnancy…..what she has in her heart.

Dulce is back!!! Which is really weird since her family was having money problems, right? She rushes into the square and calls out to her love, Brandon, and they happily unite!

Rosa is trying to give Berta a massage which should be considered abusing the help! It looks painful. She is telling Berta she shouldn’t have opened her mouth and Berta agrees, she doesn’t know what she was thinking. That agreed upon, they still need to figure out what the surprise was that Prospi was planning! It wasn’t the wedding, cuz Rosa knew about that. What could it be? Berta suggests could it have been the death of Deb? Rosa’s eyes go wide!

Paloma is looking over a still literally shaking Modesto as Modesto flashes back to Pedro burying Aurora. Paloma asks him what is wrong but she gets no answer.

Jessica is trying to help with breakfast and is already back to thinking domestic life isn’t for her. Agustin confronts her and tells her she needs to make a choice. Brayan may be poor but he has feelings, she can’t keep hurting him with her indecision and whims. He deserves better and if she isn’t happy with Brayan she should just let him go no matter what her parents think. Their heart to heart is cut off when Agustin realizes the stove Jessica was trying to cook on is now on fire.

Tadeo is having breakfast and asking Bea if he really has to go stay with his dad on the weekends. Bea wants to know why he doesn’t want to go and Tadeo says he feels like his dad is losing interest in him and doesn’t care about him anymore. Bea says that’s not true his dad is just a busy man besides there are lots of people at Santa Catalina who love him. Little does she know Sara is trying to abandon the cause as she speaks!

Brayan is bussing tables and Sal comes down and asks where Corni is. Brayan says he went to Santa Catalina to get Modesto. Sal asks why and Brayan says he’ll be direct but please don’t ask questions. He tells Sal that his brother is in danger at Santa Catalina. Sal high tails it out of there as if Brayan just yelled fire.

Juli is pacing by the stable, pissed that Sara hasn’t come outside to take her last horse ride yet, she calls Pedro, who doesn’t answer.

Juan tries to convince Sara that the money from the inheritance could help her a lot, especially now. Simon looks about ready to boil over! Juan says Sara should think of her mom. Sara says to stop with the emotional blackmail it’s not going to change anything. And stop giving her that face, he was the first person to offer her money to leave and now he wants her to stay for the money? Juan says he just wants to resolve this in the best possible way. Pedro says to stop pressuring Sara, he knows exactly what his brother is doing, you’re married he reminds him, MARRIED! Pedro starts in again with the I want to be with you Sara, and Sara tells them to stop treating her like she’s some object for them to fight over. They aren’t going to run her life, she makes her own decisions!!

Simon can’t stay silent any longer and he says as far as he’s concerned she can leave right this minute. (Thank you Simon for clearing up how you feel about the subject we never would have known) Mateo makes an almost supportive or at least non-hostile comment, telling Sara that renouncing the inheritance was actually a huge weight off of him and he’s felt a lot better since he did, he understands where she’s coming from - all that money can’t pay for all the pain. Simon makes some dumbass remark like ‘listen to the black sheep of the family’ Lucas says Sara is right, and starts listing off all the ways the brothers have mistreated Sara instead of taking care of their sister the way they should have. Simon tells him not to start but he keeps going until Pedro starts in and once again Juan and Mateo have to hold the psycho back to keep him from pummeling Lucas. Pedro brandishes his fist at Lucas again from across the room (it’s almost funny)

Sara has had enough. She’s done. Don’t they realize this is the opposite of what their father would have wanted? Living with all this violence is horrible. No more. She is renouncing the inheritance and her decision is final! She storms out!!!

Thank you for the very entertaining read early in the morning! And welcome back, Darcy, you were so missed!

Pedro has gotten so bad he can't even keep up with appearances in front of his brothers. Wait till Juli finds out the type of pshyco he truly is, I bet her screeching at him will get a bit tinier.

Modesto and Bryan should probably compare notes at this point, or tell Sal the whole truth. Someone has to put a stop to Pedro's madness, but I'm afraid that won't happen until Sara and Juan get acquainted with Pedro's chamber of torture.

With everything that has been going on recently Simon still can't get rid of his resentment. Keeping his parents' secrets for so mong has really done a nulber on him.

So it's already the next day and nobody knows Deb is awake. Is she pretending to be in a coma for the hospital staff now?

More later! Thank again, Darcy, great to have you back!

Ooops, I forgot to rant about the main event of the night: Sara telling Juan that she's pregnant (yey!) and then adding that SHE has decided that her baby doesn't need a father (WTF!) This coming from a woman who has suffered all her life because her father abandoned her.
I think women have a right to make their own decisions on their bodies, but once Sara decided to keep the baby, she has to accept that Juan wants to get involved, he has his rights, too. I hope he is the one who decides to sue if she keeps going with her nonsense about raising her child alone. Her baby needs as much a father's presence as Julieta's. And Juan, who has had such a traumatic childhood, should not stand down and respect Sara's "idiotic" whishes. Maybe with Deb in the hospital, Sara is romanticizing a little their life together, but when we first met them, they were buried in debt and fighting quite a lot. I know Sara can be a better mom than Deb ever was, but Julieta is teh last woman who deserves this kidn of sacrifice.

Mil gracias, Darcy, for the terrific and very funny recap! You made a boring episode entertaining! I've missed your recaps so much!

Modesto standing there when Pedro was killing Aurora was a WTF moment. Dude, go the police or something!

I was very satisfied when Pedro put the rat poison on the bread. I do not feel sorry for Aurora. I have never and will never do so.

My views on how Sara handled the pregnancy: Since Juan is a good person and will be a good dad, I don't understand her decision. Leaving Santa Catalina was the right decision, this place is hell. Her decision regarding Juan was WTF. If, say, Pedro was the father, it would make sense to not want him to get involved (since she has kind of seen that something is very wrong about him), but since it's Juan, it's just weird. Also, if she wants to leave everything behind, why did she say anything? It'll be worse for everybody. The only thing she did is make everything worse.

Thanks Darcy. I strongly hope that they DON'T make a season 2. Season 1 is already a train wreck!

Darcy, wonderful recap! Thank you! I especially enjoyed: "Does nobody understand the concept of run for help around here? Call 911?? Like Agustin before him, Modesto just watches the horror and does nothing!" Do not these people realize that by covering for Pedro and not joining forces against him, they give him more power over them or are they so disillusioned by the power of wealth that they do not even bother trying? At least Cornelio, no matter how I dislike this character, seemed to be considering giving Pedro a run for the money after he hears Brayan's tale of torture.

"The funniest part is Brandon clearly recognizing the idiocy of the moment and asking if he can go back to bed. " ITA. I was on Rosa's side in this event. They didn't need Prospi trying to play marriage counselor blah blah blah. They just should have dropped Jessica off y ya!

I can understand Sara wanting to get out of there ASAP especially now being pregnant and cutting all ties. They are all nuts or have serious problems except for Juan and Lucas. What is worse is that Juan doesn't realize that he cannot control the situation. Hey, he ended up being hoodwinked into a marriage.

Best question of the night: Mateo asking Juan if he himself went with Juli to get the results of the DNA test. Duh!!! I would ask why he trusted her with that task at all. Of course, we never get the answer when Juan wonders why Mateo is asking. Let us hope it gets Juan thinking.

The smartest character of all is Paloma. She actually knows how to use BIRTH CONTROL!!!! Novel idea in novela land!

Adriana, it wouldn't surprise me if Deb is taking advantage of her time in the hospital and pretending to still be in a coma to give herself an advantage in the situation when she emerges. So much time to plot and plan!

Weirdo, I didn't feel sorry for Aurora either. She got to enjoy her own sadistic recipe.

Darcy – Welcome back (as a recapper) and thank you for your recap and most excellent snark. Perfect title, too. I totally agree with all your snarky comentarios.

My stomach turned when Pedro poisoned his mother, dug the grave, and dumped her body. And then Modesto sick at his stomach. TBH, I was glad I had not just eaten a meal.
- - - I had to channel our own sweet JudyB (Hi Judy!) and tell myself over and over: “It’s just a story. It’s just a story.”

I wondered, too, why Modesto didn’t run for the police. At some point, the grave will be shown to police or someone. At this point, I think Modesto knows he is in a telenovela, cooperating with the writers, and that everything will play out in its own time.

Deborah is awake (as we were shown) and will probably fake it to hear what people say to her while they still think she is comatose.

IDK if the monitoring machines would show brain activity or whatever to indicate she is really out of her coma. Too bad we don’t have a doctor in the Caray group anymore. I miss Carlos, QEPD.

Could Cornelio have “borrowed” the bottle of wine for Pedro? Were they still talking to each other at that point?

RUN, Paloma, RUN and divorce that controlling, gaslighting, machismo husband of yours!!!!!

When Pedro was shoving the poisoned bread into Aurora’s mouth, there was a lot of dust flying about. If that was real poison (and not telenovela poison), wouldn’t he inhale that and get sick from it? Oops….I know, don’t ask the intelligent questions. I need to look for my telenovela beanie hat and “visualize my brain as a pear half in partially set jello” .

"The smartest character of all is Paloma. She actually knows how to use BIRTH CONTROL!!!! Novel idea in novela land! "
Right!!!

Darcy: NOT shocked Aurora got whacked by Psycho Pedro.

My message to Gullible Paloma: WATCH YOUR BACK because if God forbid Televisa brings this train-wreck for a 2nd Season, Crazy Simon might kill her.

Adriana: Something tells me Nosy Agustin will be joining the Body Count soon.

Darcy,I had a long phone call last night and wasn't able to watch this episode , so I just wanted to thank you for your speedy quick recap even before I read it . I know that I will get all the details. I did just read the comments so I know that it was a rip roaring episode .

Great work, Darcy, and welcome back.

I also felt a certain satisfaction when Pedro poisoned the bread. I can't fault him for wanting revenge over the horrific abuse he and Juan suffered as children. If Severiano had not set him and Juan up to compete with each other he probably would have turned out more like Juan. How much did Severiano know about Aurora's abuse? I'm sure that the boys would have been reluctant to talk about it in detail to anyone, including Catalina. She would have definitely done more to help.

It is utterly tragic to see Pedro go this way. He's intelligent, handsome, has a great wardrobe, big bucks, the letters VP after his name, a fancy car; a 21st century Rhett Butler (who, BTW, had an abusive father). He could have had the world but... didn't get the mental health assistance when he needed it most and when it could have been truly effective. Aurora may not have had the same amount of screen time as Catalina Creel, Ana Joaquina Villarde, or Juana Arellano but her level of cruelty puts her in their league.

I think Modesto was trying hard to not be seen and be able to escape back to the hacienda. How long would it have taken the police to get there? He also is probably in shock at seeing Pedro do these crimes. Nobody wants to witness someone they love go off the rails like this and commit such acts of sadism no matter how understandable the motive.

Julieta must have seen the 1993 Corazon Salvaje. However, since Sara is so early in her pregnancy nothing like that will happen to her.

Paloma is smart about contraception, but she isn't the first. Who else watched Vencer el Pasado?

Deborah opening her eyes isn't necessarily evidence that she is fully conscious. It was pointed out during another novela that this is sometimes a reflex action. However, the idea that she could fake the coma long enough to find out something important is not farfetched by any means.

I still hold out hope that Sara will learn the truth about her egg donor.

As for Sara's intent to become a single mother, I also cringe. I don't think that single mothers should be demonized as they were until about 1980 or so but I think many who do it deliberately are selfish and cheat their children out of paternal influence. Some may do this because of having been raised without fathers themselves in that they repeat what they know. I can't fault her for not wanting to be at this property, particularly around Julieta and her brand of poison. It would be truly painful to be near Juan under these conditions, and would also be painful to Juan.

Mateo is planting the seeds of doubt in Juan's mind; this is a good thing. There will be fireworks about this in a few episodes I'm sure.

doris, I was wondering about the dust, too, and the residue on his hands. Rat poison is usually an anti-coagulant. Too bad Pedro didn’t ingest enough to make him bleed out next to his wretch of a mother.

"Julieta must have seen the 1993 Corazon Salvaje. However, since Sara is so early in her pregnancy nothing like that will happen to her"
Urban - LOL!!!

Rosa keeps calling Brayan a "chacalote" and I cannot find a translation. It must be slang. Some things just don it translate, like our English "lunkhead" Does anyone know what it means? Something like a lunkhead?

Probably. I couldn't find it, either.

Darcy, you roared back to recapping with fire, ice and oh so much that was nice. So, so good to see you back.

Your entire summary could be cut and pasted but “Pedro cries…..I don’t think it’s regret but maybe just more trauma surfacing”; “Cori is drinking again, or more likely just still drinking and “Like Agustin before him, Modesto just watches the horror and does nothing!)” were excellent. My favorite was the simple “sorry Simon”.

At first, I was in shock Modesto didn’t run for help when Aurora was taken prisoner. But he is obviously completely traumatized and frozen. While the care and concern for Modesto among the brothers was expected, “Even Juli seems genuinely concerned, which is odd.” Extremely.

Juan was so happy about Sara’s news!! Given the circumstances, at first glance, it is understandable she would want to keep Juan at arm’s length but Adriana, your “…once Sara decided to keep the baby, she has to accept that Juan wants to get involved, he has his rights, too” is exactly right.

So many suspects and not so much time.

Aurora found her grim justice; Mateo is getting close to finding out the truth about the baby; Lucas keeps trying to stand up for what is right; Simon leaning into the pit of evil; Pedro now commits murderl for the second time (that we know of; Juan is torn; Sara runs; Deb lives.

At least Cornelio, no matter how I dislike this character, seemed to be considering giving Pedro a run for the money after he hears Brayan's tale of torture” might indeed be a saving grace Jarifa.

Outstanding Darcy. Thank you, thank you!

Diana

Thanks, Darcy, I enjoyed reading the recap. Never a dull moment!

The worst part of Pedro killing his mom was how he used his foot to put her in the grave. Showed how little he felt for her. Not that I blame him, she deserved it

I feel like Sara has to get out of that house, I couldn’t live with all that fighting. But she needs to let Juan in the child’s life. I admire her for staying as long as she did, but I think her mother had something to do with that. She’s the one that wants it all.

With both Corni and Sal running to the hacienda to rescue Modesto the brothers are going to wonder what’s going on. I was really surprised that Modesto hasn’t reported the murder to the police, or even Juan. It seems like he would realize Pedro could hurt someone else. And it’s scary the way he thinks Sara and he are going to be a couple.
Her wanting to leave makes me think she might lose the baby and also be injured. That would keep her there. And if Deb really is awake she might have some control over Sara. There’s still a few weeks to go so she can’t leave yet!

Thanks everyone! I missed recapping and I am happy to be back!

When recapping I watch everything so closely and pause and rewind a lot and it was interesting doing so after watching so much of this show so casually and not really paying attention to the minute details. The thing I noticed most with last night's episode were the facial expressions of Emmanuel Palomares (Simon). The man has a fascinating face! LOL He's actually a very good looking guy which I hadn't thought much about since the beginning since his character is so unlikeable. I couldn't stop looking at his reactions in the study and how he was challenging Sara just with his facial expression, I bet he is fun to work with and hard not to laugh at. Daniel too (Pedro) with his motions and how he shook his fist at Lucas, they didn't show Lucas's reaction at all and I think it was probably because the actor was laughing! Now, that I think of it, they might have done that weird close up on Sara's face because all the brothers were laughing.

I think Sara has reason enough to want to run from the hacienda. Pedro and Juli are reason enough in and of themselves and I understand her position. But I still rankled at her words and the way she said them. She sounded so cold, arrogant and dismissive. The way she said it's her decision only and Juan gets no say, Urban said it perfectly, it's selfishness and her child won't thank her for it. Unless she grooms him/her to believe something unkind about daddy. I could see her keeping Jr far far away from avocado land and only allowing Juan to visit without Juli for the child's safety but there's no reason to cut him off completely.

Doris, I think Corni's wine bottle went missing overnight. I don't think it was gone for months, although that would make more sense because where does the unemployed Corni get the money to replace an expensive bottle of wine overnight. You said it, don't ask the intelligent questions!!! I don't think Corni poisoned Deb just because I don't think he's that sophisticated or smooth. I think Deb's cause of death would be blunt force trauma if Corni had done it.

I also don't think Simon is crazy. Resentful definitely, angry, hateful, spiteful, very very bad for Paloma, check check check check check. But I don't remember seeing anything to make me believe he's actually irrational or criminally bent; and so I don't think Sara, Deb, Paloma or anyone else is in danger of actually losing their life at his hand. Maybe wishing they were dead so they could escape him but not actually being in mortal danger. I still think he will be redeemed.

I worry Deb might get out without an anvil because she's now a 'victim'. She doesn't deserve to get away with any of this. But then again, Dante or Pedro might still kill her.

Pedro is gone, but I think the remaining brothers are headed for some magical novela HEA, where Simon, Lucas and Mateo all except/love Sara and Juan marries her.

I still think Juli poisoned Deb, and I still hope it was Rosa! :)

A thing that really bugs me in this telenovela is that it shows some things that are very rare. For example, a man like Corni wouldn't be a good father. Abusive husbands are abusive fathers. Sara in real life wouldn't do something so irrational. Single mothers have a reason to be single mothers. They don't have a good and loving spouse and they're just crazy people who randomly decide one day that they don't want him to be part of their children's lives. Not all single mothers are the same of course, but the vast majority isn't like this. A good candidate for a single mother would be Bea, but they decided to go with her cheating on Corni and the whole "Tadeo is Pedro's son" plot. Meh. Such weird decisions, both of them.

Darcy, a beautiful job. A lot of convos last night and you gave me all the details I needed. I loved all your snark and commentary. Thanks for my afternoon treat. Yay!, Darcy has returned to the saddle!

I see Sara pulled out the midriff bustier to wear for her "I'm Leaving" speech. You go, girl! Show that midriff before the baby starts showing. Also on a fashion note, my compliments to Rosa on the hot pink dress. Very becoming.

"(Pedro is burying mommy (shirtless!)"

Darcy, lol! I kept telling myself "he's doing a despicable thing, but ain't he hot!"

Honestly, I had to look away when the rat poison came out. I'm more squeamish now than I use to be. I can't summon pity for Aurora, who stayed a horrible oxygen waster and never repented for the pain she caused, but Pedro killed something inside of himself too. So sad. Meanwhile, Tadeo feels Pedro as Daddy No. 2 is not totally with him. I don't think Pedro will survive, so I hope that Cornelio does (sorry, Bea!) for Tadeo and Modesto's sake.

Ugh! Modesto was frozen by fear. Must be horrendous knowing you helped raised a child who grew up to do something like that.

Thinking about Sara's comment about wanting to get away from the violence there, I've taken a brief inventory of the Del Monte interfighting/punching so far:

- Pedro has socked Juan, Lucas, and I think Mateo (or was it just harsh words with Mateo?).
- Juan has socked Pedro and Simon.
- Simon has dumped Sara in the mud and would've slugged Juan back but didn't get the chance.

Yep, the mansion is not the best place to raise a kid to be anti-violent.

I'm not sure Sev preferred Juan to Pedro from the start. Maybe that's in his mind. He also said something last night to Aurora about no one caring about him and that's not true. All the brother's love him. Plus, Catalina spent individual special time with each child. My take is that Pedro always kept his anguish inside, while Simon let his out. I'm betting she steered Simon to major in psychology to help heal himself, though I know ya'll are all laughing about the results of that. ;>

Darcy, I notice the facial expressions of Emmanuel Palomares (Simon) too. I think he's doing a great job with this troubled (but not evil or crazy, IMO) character, who loves Paloma (my big test - she's the only one he confessed to that he killed his father, which I believe is from guilt over not responding fast enough) and hates Sara (guilt by association with Deb, so damn stubborn). I found his reactions to everyone's response during Sara's meeting very entertaining.

Dear Darcy, thank you for every dark detail as this pot of trouble bubbles . To be honest , after reading your excellent account of all the astounding dysfunction, I am grateful that a lengthy phone call caused me to miss the show. I know I would have changed the channel when Pedro was with Aurora.

Pedro has a death wish . He has been doomed ever since Aurora doled out her unrelenting abuse and neglect. As I've stated before, perhaps Juan was saved from the heavy weight of bitterness and rage that Pedro has evidently carried his entire life because Juan had a purpose which was protecting and caring for his younger brother.

I can't believe that Modesto witnessed Pedro killing Aurora and said nothing to anyone . He just ran and then let Pedro return to the hacienda and the family. Now what ? I hope that Pedro doesn't somehow discover that Modesto saw him kill Aurora and go after him.

If Deb is up and at ' em again , I think she will be Pedro's next victim in his chamber of horrors . I think she has underestimated the
evil in both Pedro and Dante...monsters.

Why do they keep bringing up Dante's invisible family ? Has he just made up a family to avoid marrying Deb? Something is fishy about that whole story. I still wonder if Dante is Pedro's father....tree>>>apple.

No idea who poisoned Deb. The writers sure wanted to provide lots of red herring possibilities with so many bottles of wine going around .

I think Pedro and Dante are both doomed . Will they kill each other ? Maybe Corny will finally have enough and kill Pedro? If would be poetic justice for one of these beleaguered women to kill Pedro to save someone , but I don't think the writers would go there.

IMO, Simón probably would have run Deb over and killed her if there were no witnesses. He is just as nuts and dangerous as Pedro.

Simon is quite unbalanced and if the writers think they can give him a 180-degree turnaround this late in the game, they are just as loco. How is it that he was always eavesdropping on Catalina? Was he the only "son" in the house at that time? Where were the other boys? Those scenes and the idea of him eavesdropping so often just creep me out and always have.

I actually rather liked that blue top Sara wore in this episode. It was better than her lacy long-line bra top that always looks like underwear and she forgot to finish dressing.

Because it's all about the Spanish, right? --- I have a definition for Rosa's use of "chacalote". I reached out on Facebook to one of the women from Mexico who was in my English conversation group many years ago. I described the context in which it is being used, and she said Rosa is using it because she considers Brayan to be from a lower class than Los Millan, and that is the meaning of chacalote: someone from a lower class.

Thanks, Doris. I love vocab and understanding the roots of a word. Looks like Rosa will never lose her snobbery.

Looking forward to Monday's epi. The TN has done a good job with the nightly cliffhangers. Will Sara actually leave the mansion? If so, will she leave with the usual one tiny suitcase?

It will be interesting to see where the writers take these characters tonight. I wonder if we are in for a few more surprises.

Let's see what happens when Deb rejoins the chaos .

Pedro wants Sara's baby gone, and Juli wants both Sara and the baby gone ....yikes .

Meanwhile , Modesto is keeping his witnessing Pedro killing his mother a secret . He has to tell Juan. Nobody realizes how demented Pedro is except Dante and now terrified Modesto .

Susanlynn: I strongly agree with you that both Psycho Pedro & Buji Julieta want to kill Goldie Locks Sara's baby.

As soon as I saw your comment, I was like "Uh-oh. Watch out Goldie Locks Sara!"

Expect the Body Count to increase!
