Hey, Patio!
Hey, Darcy & SpanProf. Thanks for the weekend feedback. We have another interrupted week so hang in there. We’ll have to recap and comment as best we can.

Looking forward to discussing what few shows we have. Instead of the famous mortal body count, we may need a drugged body count. So far we have Emma (by Rod) Jesús (by Carloca) and now Damián (by Fede’s skank). Who’s next?

OT - I’ve tried to get behind Cabo, but the galán’s bad decisions and screaming-as-acting along with the overabundance of plastic surgery makes it quite challenging. I am really enjoying Perdona Nuestros Pecados and El Amor Invencible!

Guerrero

Hi O.S! I had the same thought about discussion questions which I included at the end of my recap today. I also had a thought about who might be drugged next, see recap! :)

OT- I agree 100% about the Cabo non-galan. There are those here who are a fan of that actor but I don't see the appeal. I wanted to watch Cabo for the same reason that I wanted to watch Guerrero in the beginning - Christian de la Campa! :) And I like him in Cabo, as I almost always like him in anything (there were a couple early villain roles that he did I wasn't a fan of) but there isn't much else to recommend that show. I still watch though just because after making it this far might as well see how it ends.

I haven't been watching Perdona or Amor Invencible - I was half tempted to watch Amor Invencible but I am moving next month and I have so much to do, I really don't have time to keep up with three novelas right now. Maybe after the move is done I'll binge watch it on the Uni app and catch up to the live broadcast...

Okay, on to today's recap!

Corazon Guerrero – Capitulo 90 – Part 1 of 4

**For today’s recap I am once again grouping together themes/events and not necessarily reporting things in the order that they were shown.

After Mari hits her head and is knocked unconscious, Lisardo suddenly goes all kung-fu on Augi’s henchman and we see that Sam isn’t the only fighter in the family. Actually, Jesus seems like a well-trained fighter drawing more attention to the what’s in Jesus’s past mystery – speaking of, Jesus seems to know a lot about how to create disguises – he’s unrecognizable as Lisardo! He saves Mari but is not uninjured in the quest.

Augi gets a report from the thugs about Jesus/Lisardo’s escape and he’s livid! They tell Augi that Lisardo must be something other than a missionary – he’s too good at defending himself. Augi says that’s all well and good but even if he’s in expert fighter he must be injured! Augi orders the thugs to start checking all the clinics and hospitals because surely Lisardo is getting treatment somewhere!

Now in the car, Jesus ditches the Lisardo costume and by the time Mari awakes she finds Jesus sitting beside her. He tells Mari that Augi sent him to TJ and he came to find her when he heard she was in Mexico and luckily, he did because he was able to help her. Mari worries about Lisardo, but Jesus tells her that Lisardo is safe. Later at a restaurant Mari escapes to the bathroom to go call mom and grandma to give them the update. After hanging up, Mari thinks about Lisardo which leads to thoughts of Jesus – specifically why did Lisardo’s kiss remind her of Jesus (LOL)

Jesus calls Augi and insists he’s not going to continue to look for Lisardo because Mariluz is hurt and he has to protect her. Augi tries to play the I didn’t send you there to be with Mari, I sent you there to find Lisardo card; but Jesus points out the mission is messed up because Augi didn’t trust Jesus to take care of things and sent additional people who created a disaster. Now, Jesus has to play clean-up whether Augi likes it or not!

Fede distracts Valero with fake car trouble so he won’t go into the garage and discover the chick drugging Damian. It turns out Domi wasn’t going to see Damian, she’s still in her house but she calls him saying she wants to talk too and he should come see her after he’s done working, she’ll be waiting for him. Rando chick leaves the garage and gives Fede the thumbs up. Once regrouped in Fede’s car, she gives him a flash drive with compromising photos! (How did she get them on a drive that quickly?) Fede is thrilled and says she did a great job! He gives her money and a kiss too! Eyes rolling.

Adrian arrives at self-defense class and sees Sebas a little too close to Emma for his liking, he asks no questions and just attacks Sebas! This isn’t a good idea, dude, the guy teaches self-defense! Jealous Adrian accuses Sebas of hitting on Emma but it turns out Sebas is gay! He likes handsome guys like Adrian, lol. Here we have a dead horse cycle, last week, Emma hit Rod and was criticized for being aggressive and the next day Adrian gets in a brawl. Now, it’s Emma’s turn to comment on Adrian’s anger problem one day after the group comments that Emma is too angry. Adrian and Emma later compare their jealousy issues and decide it’s time to rededicate themselves to their relationship and spending more time alone together. They make a date for the very next day and then Emma goes off to practice dance with Belen.

Corazon Guerrero – Capitulo 90 – Part 2 of 4

Emma and Belen have fun practicing and then stop to eat something. As they eat and chat Emma for some reason decides to watch Renata’s new video where she’s bragging to her followers that she is able to fit into her new dress she because she had nothing but water for three days. Emma wonders if that’s true and she hopes not, leading to Today’s PSA is about starvation and Belen decides it can’t be true because ‘no one can live three days on water alone’. (And although they anti-eating disorder PSA is all well and good, this particular narrative is cringeworthy to me and anyone who practices intermittent fasting or any kind of fasting for religious purposes because drinking nothing but water for three days is perfectly safe in most cases and not a symptom of an eating disorder and you most definitely can live on nothing about water for three days, Belen.)

Sam goes to see Selena but is told by a neighbor that Selena hasn’t been there in days and she thinks she may have moved away with that guy who’s always hanging around. Sam thinks Fede must have taken her, but to where?

Santi and Elisa are digging by the trees when Modesta comes up demanding to know who authorized them to do this. Santi comes up with some excuse Modesta recognizes Elisa and she and Elisa go off to talk while Santi continues to dig. Santi finds something, but we don’t see what it is. Elisa seems to have told the truth or at least enough of it to ask about the tree but Modesta clarifies that the tree she’s talking about is etched on a box and is not the tree in the yard. She has no idea where the box is. Santi continues to cover his hole even when Elisa says it’s useless.

Emma and MD start to argue about whether or not is Domi going to go out with Damian when someone comes with the delivery of the pics. Mica is the unknowing deliverer of bad news. Vicky freaks out after seeing the pics, like seriously freaks out, her level of panic and insistence that Domi never ever see Damian again is so out of place. It was hard to follow the hysteria but I think she even suggested that Damian purposely had those photos delivered to Domi which is ridiculous. So much so that even Domi, who is of course affected by seeing the photos, has to tell Mom to pipe down because she’ll make her own decisions! Augi arrives next and is equally adamant, but in a calmer way when he comes in and hears what’s going on. Domi storms off fed up with both parent’s antics. Augi pours a drink for Vicky to calm her down and it was just plain weird the way he practically force-fed the drink to her, holding the cup and making sure she drank it all. Could Augi be poisoning Vicky?

Carloca gets a vague message from Jesus about not being able to clear things up today, he’ll be home tomorrow. He hopes she and the baby are doing well, tells her to take care. Carloca is not happy and she’s not buying his story either. She rants out loud wondering where Jesus is and who he’s with. In a rare honest moment, she admits to herself that being pregnant did her no good, Jesus just isn’t interested in being with her. She’s dying of jealousy and it’s all Jesus’s fault. (It’s a nice change that she’s blaming the guilty, Jesus, today and not the innocent Mari)

Jesus tries to introduce the dead horse subject of loving Mari too much but she isn’t having it. She goes to leave but he tries to go after her too quickly and grimaces in obvious pain. He’s been hiding his injury since Mari woke up, but now he’s bleeding.

Modesta is trying to draw the box for Elisa but she sucks at drawing. Santi offers to draw for her while she describes it and Elisa goes off to the ‘bathroom’… ie. to search the house but nothing is found. Modesto says Conchita would be the one most likely to know what happened to the box.

Corazon Guerrero – Capitulo 90 – Part 3 of 4

Lupe lights a candle and thinks about both Vila and Augi. She prays out her problems and Conchita overhears. Lupe wants to want Vila but against all her will and wishes she still loves Augi (WHY????) An even bigger WHY, Conchita encourages Lupe to look for Augi and tell him the truth because she deserves to be happy!!!??? The good guys are encouraging the good guys to go after married men these days??? This continues to defy logic, even if he wasn’t married, and forgetting for a minute that he is evil; why, would any woman encourage her daughter to run after the man who abandoned her when she was pregnant? (Whether he knew she was pregnant or not)

Mari is now attending to Jesus in some room lent to her by a woman who consulted with a doctor and how lucky they are that he didn’t have to go to the hospital because they would ask so many questions! Jesus looks attractive half-naked and asleep (just saying) but he wakes up and starts in on the I love you, you’re the only one I want and his attractive factor takes a nose dive. Mari just can’t believe that he was hurt and didn’t tell her.

d. Abel and Vila talk about the strike. Well d. Abel was talking about the strike, Vila goes on a 987 word speech about how life is cruel since he’s lost Lupe. I didn’t listen to him.

Back at home, Elisa is going on and on about finding the box when she realizes Santi isn’t listening and she asks what’s wrong? He’s been quiet since they left. Santi finally opens up. He didn’t want to tell Elisa in front of Modesta, but he did find something when digging by that tree!! He found a BODY!!! There’s a dead body buried by that tree and Santi can’t cover that up. Elisa agrees whomever it is and whatever the circumstances of their death they deserve better than that.

Selena is still entertaining the crowd at the bar and Fede comes with the money. He wants Selena, and he those were some extra lusty looks he was giving her so I mean that literally!! But the thugs aren’t letting him take her because he was late with the payment and now owes them interest. Fede has no more money and Selena has to stay. Fede is able to see/leer at Selena briefly and she wants OUT. Fede says she has to stay a few days longer! Selena says it’s like being in prison but Fede reminds her it’s her brother who is in prision and Fede protects him so Selena has to play her part.

Domi is crying when Emma comes in. They talk about Damian’s supposed tryst with chick number 3. Yep, there’s now three women in Damian’s life; Domi, the painter and some random chick. Domi doesn’t know who sent her the photos but she’s thankful to them for opening her eyes, Damian isn’t worth it.

Corazon Guerrero – Capitulo 90 – Part 4 of 4

Santi goes to the police department and reports the body found at the Finca at the same time that Fede is reporting to Augi that Damian is finished. Domi will never give him the time of day again. Augi says very good, Fede can come back into the fold! But Fede needs to know that Jesus will now be handling some of his old duties since he’s taken on more responsibilities in Fede’s absence. They will have to learn to share.

Linda comes to bring Selena food and gives us more of her disturbing view that Selenita should love her imprisonment because it’s oh so glamourous. Selena begs Linda to help her by getting a message to a friend but Linda is afraid of getting into trouble with the bosses and refuses. Selena cries desperately after her.

Lupe and Conchita are exhausted – their success is hard work and they need to hire help! But it’s a good problem to have and they’ve made just about enough money to pay off all their debts!! Elisa arrives and Lupe feels bad that they have no Pozole for her but Elisa says she’s not there for food, she needs to talk to them and Conchita in particular! Conchita recognizes Elisa immediately and she acknowledges that she’s the widow of Octavio.

Mari asks Jesus what he expected to die drinking tequila? He says if he was with her, he’d die happy. Blah blah Jesus finally admits he got injured trying to protect Mari and she feels bad because she’s been rude to him all day and he got hurt trying to help her. He says she still doesn’t understand, he’d do anything for her! Anything! How can she not yet understand that? He would do anything to protect her and he would die if anything happened to her! She’s the only thing he cares about! This declaration leads to a kiss from Mari which deepens and I don’t know how badly hurt Jesus can really be because this kiss leads to more kisses which lead to love making. (Blah, IMO there’s nothing romantic about cheating I don’t care if you are the protagonists.

*** And since we have plenty of time – until Thursday again – let’s discuss: What do you think is hidden in Jesus’s past? (I mean beside Lisardo) Why does everyone seem to know him and he seem to have contacts everywhere? And whose body is buried under the tree at the Finca???

Guerrero/OT

Years ago there was a short lived daytime soap opera called 'Passions'. It was an English show, and it was its own story but it was also a parody. Passions took on every over the top soap trope and exaggerated it to the max, it made fun of every daytime stereotype under the sun and it was hyper dramatic and ridiculous - it was also highly entertaining!

Guerrero reminds me of Passions in a lot of ways and I sometimes wonder if the writers were trying for Parody. Here we have:
1. Every novela trope there can be and most of them are exaggerated,
2. The whole existence of Vilalba, a character who is a walking talking dramatic satire,
3. Vallero who is a whole stereotype all his own.
4. All Novelas have issues with repeating dialog too much but Guerrero takes it to a whole different level, thus the dead horse issues tally we have going.
5. And then there's the number of times they say 'Corazon Guerrero' in the show. It's a normal thing and a popular novela bingo square for the name of the show to be spoken by one or more characters at some point, but Guerrero says it like twice an episode

....what do you guys think? Are we watching a show that's making fun of itself, a little?

"GUERRERO":

O.S.: Did someone say Drugged Body Count ????????????????????

Darcy: Did you say "Passions" the NBC Soap Opera from 1999 to 2008 ? OMG I couldn't stand that TV Show: the annoying dragged-out storylines were going on way too long.

Guerrero. Wow! We are now 3/4 of the way through this telenovela. Please tell me there are sensible solutions to all the characters' problems. (Unlikely). Excellent summary, Darcy! Really, I do think Mariluz should start suspecting Jesus/Lisardo by now. Duh! Why WOULD Lisardo's kiss remind her of Jesus? I like the way Jesus took on Augi about the way he handled the Lisardo matter. Is that body under the tree Victoriano's? Octaviano's? Or someone else's? I'll go with someone else--Maybe one of Augi's thugs who also knew about the murder of Victoriano. Yep, Darcy, good thing Mariluz didn't take Jesus to a hospital. Funny how things always work out like that on this tn. It's awful that even with the debt payment the thugs won't release Selena. But is it worse to be the thugs' slave or Fede's slave? At least the thugs seem to appreciate her singing and dancing talent and don't seem to be beating her. Oh oh! Jesus's and Mariluz's lovemaking does not bode well! I don't think Corazon Guerrero intends to make fun of itself, but you're right, it does repeat a lot of tn tropes, over and over. I wonder if some big-time crook (or maybe d.Abel?). adopted Jesus. Anyway, he does seem to know a lot about a lot of things.

"GUERRERO" Episode #90:

SpanProf: We're like 30 episodes away from conclusion. Totally forgot we're in the home stretch of this Daytime Telenovela.

I wonder if Univision would consider moving one of their evening Telenovelas over to Daytime 🤔 ?

Hey, Patio. So few shows (this week); so much to discuss. Darcy, thanks for Monday’s recap. I like your group formatting, and you captured everything with your usual finesse.

Capítulo 9O was a comedy goldmine. Where to begin? Adrián attacking Emma’s gay karate kid (Sebastián) was a full combination plate of absurdity. While not the usual stereotype, Sebas flirting with Adrian after the attack had me LOL. I can’t wait to dive into Darcy’s “Passions” theory.

The LOLs kept coming with Augi’s tantrums. His ranting & raving is so over the top. I wonder if his applications for (shady) workers include the verbiage: Must be inept. He certainly surrounds himself with such tipos.

I love that we got to see Lisardo peel off the costume and morph back into Jesús. I was surprised by the nose prosthesis - supporting the fact that Mariluz doesn’t recognize him in such a clever, elaborate getup. This is 18O° from earlier in the series where becoming unrecognizable only took a baseball cap and sunglasses.

I also love how Jesùs told Augi what he was and wasn’t going to do.

Elisa & Opera Man brought chuckles digging around the “Tree of Life” at the farm dressed like they were performing community service. Observation: the hand Opera Man uncovered still had plenty of flesh around it. This would indicate that it’s a recent burial. If it were Victoriano, wouldn’t it be skeletal by now?

Mommy Dearest’s outburst/squawking reached a fever pitch this episode. As Darcy noted, Augi practically forcing MD to drink from an adult sippy cup was most strange. We know she likes her hooch; could it be Augi-mented? Ok. I’ll stop.

Carloca’s honest moment should make us worry about Jesús’ safety although he’s not getting much sympathy from anyone. Nice for her to stop targeting Mari, but she should also step away from the dead/high horse and think about Iker Jr. for a change.

Elisa trusting Modesta with all of her information made me nervous. How do we know that Modesta is not hopelessly devoted to her boss? One phone call and they would be in grave danger.

I don’t know much about western religions. Do people really have shrines in their homes. If so, do they have flashbacks and pray out loud about their struggles? Either way, my take was Conchita was telling Guadalightthecandle that she would never find happiness or forget about Augi until she tells the truth about Mari’s paternity. The truth shall set her free, and then she will find love. It was not clear at all (to me) why Conchita kept saying, “You’re killing me, Smalls!” ?!!

Since we’re ¾ through to the end, I vote Jesús remain half-naked and asleep (or silent) for the duration. He’s much more pleasing to the senses that way. Also, if (Heaven forbid) I’m ever attacked by 2 thugs and hit my head on a rock, I hope I bounce back just like Mariluz.

d. Abel: Nobody wins when workers strike.
Villalba: [987 words speech replete with literary references, prose, and nothing relevant.]
Darcy, you nailed it as always!

The only good thing about Selena staying a few extra days = this is clearly the setup for Sam to save the day. That creepy limptastic woman (Lina) deserves a deluxe anvil for not helping Selena out. C’mon, Sam!!!

Mari even got in on the comedy capers this episode. Her Nurse Ratched to Jesús’ half-naked bumbling was hilarious. She clearly didn’t minor in nursing. Unfortunately, the comedy was derailed by some unlikely hanky panky (and a nice remix of the theme song)!

I’m going to post this and later dive into Darcy’s Passions theory and the other talking points on the table!

Guerrero

Uh oh. According to my local listings, our show does not return until Friday! Could this be?

Darcy - Enamorandome de Ramon must have finished last week. I was channel surfing yesterday and Un Gancho al Corazon has taken its place.
