TELEMUNDO Y MÁS (#1): Juego de Mentiras, Betty en NY, Secretos de Sangre, y más: Week of June 5, 2023
Here are the current telenovelas (all times are Eastern Daylight Time):
9 - 10PM - Betty en NY**
10 - 11PM - Secretos de Sangre**
12 - 1AM - Juego de Mentiras**
**Arrgh. Telemundo has lost what little was left of its mind. Starting today (Monday, June 5), Telemundo will apparently be showing a re-run of Betty en NY in the 9 PM time slot. Secretos de Sangre will drop back to one hour at 10 PM. And Juego de Mentiras is unfairly left gasping for breath at midnight Tuesday through Friday. By "midnight," they mean first thing in the wee hours of the morning on T-F.
Everyone is welcome to join in the conversation. Since discussions of all the novelas share the same page, please remember to put the name of the telenovela you're referring to at the top of your post, so readers can easily find the conversations they're looking for.
By common agreement, this group DOES NOT discuss previews, trailers, or any other plot information not found in a current or past episode of the current production. Spoilers WILL be removed by the admin. This includes reference to earlier productions of the story, and even the original novel. Thanks for your cooperation!to earlier productions of the story, and even the original novel. Thanks for your cooperation!

Also furious about Telemundo scheduling a re-run at 9PM. Hasn't that Betty thing been done to death? There's one from Colombia, one from Televisa, and there was even an English language version with America Ferrera called Ugly Betty. I get the appeal to young Latinas wanting to be Cinderella, but sheesh! Everyone who wants that plot line has probably already seen it.
I will do a recap of the newest Juego, whether we call it Monday night at midnight or Tuesday morning!
Novelera, I am also VERY angry about the scheduling.
There's also a Greek version of Betty, called "Mary the Ugly". I've had enough of this story, thanks.
I can do the recap of Thursday night/Friday morning, like last week.
#59 – Nada es Igual – Parte 1 de 3
Adriana continues to listen outside the Mother Superior’s door while Camila tries to get information about the child known as Cara Sucia. MS insists on the protocol of privacy. She looks shocked when Cami mentions Adriana. But she sticks to the telenovela rules: it’s too soon to talk And she tells Cami that God will rescue César!
César comes out into the prison yard, and the evil thugs try to get under his skin. He insists he won’t be provoked and will leave this place alive for his daughter.
That happy couple Renata and Pascual chat. He thinks FJ would have been more “mature” and have forgiven him. She reminds him he slept with the woman his son loved. Loving spouse Renata tells Pascual that he has to take the blame if FJ upsets the apple cart. She killed Eva to save him, and she isn’t going to prison.
Ale grills Olga about Chuy’s whereabouts. She doesn’t know, but she tells Ali that Chuy isn’t bad (!), but when he was young, they did so much damage to him. Olga appears to now be accepting Ale.
Chuy has come to the amusement park in San Diego to speak to Berenice López. He smiles when she agrees to his remark that she’ll testify tomorrow at the trial. He says he’s a police investigator and has come to ask her some questions. He shows her a picture of Pascual on his phone. She says she sees a lot of people and doesn’t recognize that guy. But she goes on to tell him about the dropped passport and that César was very far from the shots. He tells her that Pascual was the one who did it. And at she should give Camila that clue.
M.S. Has come to ask Adriana if CaraChuy has become a killer. “How could a sweet boy…?” Adriana tells her it might have been when he lost hope, when years went by and no one adopted him. And when society treats them like rabid animals. M.S. tells her about all the other non-adopted kids who turned out fine. Adriana says she’s happy for them. "Chuy was even adopted later on, but I spent my youth here. And, later, I wanted to be a good mother, but I wasn’t capable." M.S. “Dios, yada yada.”
Flashback to Chuy and Adriana once again plotting at the Del Rio mansion. Adriana asks him where they all are. She’s made negronis for them. She tells him that things are going well at the foundation. Yesterday she met FJ again, and she thinks he has a thing for her. He gets huffy. “Isn’t it enough to have both her husband and he himself?” Aha, Adriana tells him her idea. She gets FJ to fall in love, Chuy kidnaps her, FJ pays the ransom, and they’ll be off, seriously rich. She says it’s better than trying to steal from the foundation. He grabs hold of her, saying she’d better be careful. The plan is for a life together and she better not betray him.
#59 – Nada es Igual – Parte 2 de 3
Adriana tells M.S. that Chuy was a good man, but she changed their plans and made him into a monster.
Cami reassures a nervous Noelia that her father will come home. Then she tells Elvira about her visit to the orphanage where Adriana was as a child. She also jumps to the fact that the real killer lived there also. [Hmm. Cami must have sneaked in to read the scripts.]
Escobar, the guy at the Foundation who’s always snooping, reads Inés’ printout about adoption. She tells him she’s trying to arrange an adoption for Tomás. [Que? How can you set up an adoption for someone else?]
Ale confronts Chuy about the gun and the bloody t-shirt she found in his closet.
FJ comes to see Tomás at the Foundation. Tomás looks very healthy and says he’s getting a lot out of therapy. He says he doesn’t want to lose Inés; she’s a treasure. FJ says that, while he was away for two months thinking, he has concluded that their father had something to do with Eva’s death. He outlines the reasons we’ve heard before. To FJ the biggest thing is that Eva adored her pets and would not have left them alone. Tomás can’t imagine his father paying some person to drive toward Canada, posting on social media all the way. FJ mentions going to the police.
We are back in Chuy’s bedroom. Ale: “Why do you have a gun?” She wants to know what he’s been doing for Renata. Has he killed someone? He tries for outraged innocence. He says he only crossed the line once, when he kidnapped Adriana to help her campaign.
Mother Superior has come to see Adriana to tell her that the orphanage has changed a lot since she lived here. She wants her to stay rather than try to assume someone else’s life. She compliments her on her ability to win over children.
Chuy shows Ale on her laptop the picture of the house by the sea, the one we’ve seen before. She offers to tap into her savings and buy it. She wants to get away. He gets upset, saying he doesn’t want to be un mantenido (a kept man). She tells him that she has a last meeting with her campaign staff. She’s about to leave with her laptop when, looking concerned, he asks if she’s taking it. She then remembers Cami bringing up the government protected computer that was sending emails to Noelia.
#59 – Nada es Igual – Parte 3 de 3
Back to the past again. Adriana and Chuy are in bed, post coital, and are looking at that picture of the house by the sea. She tells him, grinning, that she met his boss, Don Pascual. He asked for her phone number. Chuy tells her Pascual is a determined womanizer. He says he has accepted that she got Paco to fall for her so their kidnapping plan would work. And so that they could leave with the ransom money.
In present time Olga comes into Chuy’s room. He offers to take the basket of laundry to Pascual’s room. He then hides the gun and the bloody shirt in Pascual’s closet, muttering that he’ll go to jail. It looks like he put the ticket to the amusement park there also. But he doesn't know that Eva beat him to the punch.
César talks with Nero’s daughter and grandson at the prison, assuring her it wasn’t her fault what he did. [But it was (remember that letter she wrote to her father).]
After the campaign team’s final meeting and a toast, Ale meets with a woman who tells her that that volunteer Lucy was found to have been murdered. An autopsy showed the path of the bullet couldn’t have been like that in a suicide. Ale looks terrified.
Chuy tells Renata he couldn’t find Berenice. She goes off on him, even slapping his chest. She yells that the trial is the next day, and that woman can’t talk. We see Chuy go ballistic and then really ballistic, shooting her. But it’s a fantasy. Maybe Viewerville has had a couple of those ourselves. But he does tell her he’ll handle it.
While Sr. Susana listens, Adriana calls Mariana’s husband. She’s very sweet and submissive. He’s sending her plane tickets. Susana seems to be enjoying this a bit too much for a Bride of Christ.
Ale comes to see Cami. She asks about the computer used to send messages, a government protected one. Cami: “You mean Cara Sucia? Once I thought it might be you. But now I think it might be from a friendship from Adriana’s childhood.” Ale asks why she thinks this. Cami replies that Cara Sucia was a friend of Adriana. I think they were both in the same orphanage. [Ale remembers Olga telling her: “My Chuy is not bad, but they did him a lot of damage when he was small. He missed out on being loved.”]
Cami tells Ale about the emails that were sent to Tomás and Noelia from a government protected computer. Ale remembers Chuy using her laptop. Cami shows Ale the picture of Chuy’s dream house with a note on the back signed by Cara Sucia. Ale’s jaw drops.
The happy days without GumChew are over. FJ has asked the Worst Cop in LA to meet him at a bar to talk about his suspicion that his father killed Eva Rojas. He wants to file a complaint.
Splendid recap, novelera. Thanks a lot.
Ale is starting to realise what she got herself into. I hope she is not THAT stupid and confronts Chuy about it. We all know what will happen to her if she does.
"Adriana tells M.S. that Chuy was a good man, but she changed their plans and made him into a monster." Okay, what? I mean, maybe this fueled him, but seriously? A change of plans made him a monster?
God will save César, M.S.? Wait until you see Chuy 2.0 and Renata.
Speaking of Renata, I wonder why Chuy didn't tell her anything about Bernice! Okay, the telenovela reason is because César has to get out of jail and Bernice is the only one that can help, but what was Chuy's reason? I hope that gets explained.
Almost 20 episodes away from the Gran Final and FJ goes to GumChew about Eva? Renata, you ain't getting away with this.
The more the story is progressing, the more I like the telenovela, which is another reason its time slot is driving me crazy.
Thanks again, novelera!
Novelera: Thank you very much for the recap of last night's episode. Once again Adriana is still an aggressive rolling stone & a busy, busy bee.
Weirdo: With 21 episodes left, who's next to getting their Karma anvil ? GumChew ? Pascual ? Renata ?
thanks so much novelera, so nice of you to lay out this story for us! It's really nice they are going back and filling in the holes.
I think Cami's search for Cara (from the orphanage) as the killer is based on what Cesar told her on her prison visit (no touching). This seems to be completely independent of what Ines is doing.
loved Eva's retro fashion style but never figured her for a cat lady, I wonder how many she had.
Chuy would leave the gun with the victim, so this one he planted on Pascual may be the one used to kill Mariana. I wonder how he knows Pascual was at the park. Seems like a long shot to me that the police would show up to search before anyone else would find it.
yes, Chuy warned Adriana about Pascual, he sure wants to bring him down.
Ale stopped short of telling Cami what she knows, this can't end well.
I guess Mariana up and left her husband (not sure of the reason) and asking to come back home works for him (is he abusive?) but before Adriana goes, she needs to say goodbye to her daughter, ut-oh.
Novelera, thank you for the excellent recap.
The writers really fooled me about Chuy . I felt sorry for him as the poor , simple guy, the gardener , the loyal maid's son , the boy toy to the powerful senator . yikes .... what a surprise to see how much bigger and darker his role is. The scenes of Chuy and Adriana are interesting . Were they ever in love or just wild friends with benefits who had big dreams for getting out of poverty? I get a big kick out of the way the actress playing DAMAS chews the scenery with her interesting way of talking and her over the top facial expressions . She and Chuy evidently had a lot of fun together and a lot of plans for getting rich. Did Chuy ever really love Ale ? He seemed to when I thought he was the poor boy toy gardener and not the stone cold killer he has turned out to be.
I hope the victims of DAMAS Noelia, Cesar, Elvira get out of this mess and get HEAs.
Cannot wait to see what anvils the writers have crafted for the wicked .
I’m also angry at Telemundo’s ridiculous scheduling. They are crazy if they think this schedule can compete with Uni. Why start a rerun of Betty at 9? After a two-hour debut of Secretos, they should have left Juego at 10 and put Secretos at 9. Maybe they are just conceding defeat.
I am watching Secretos. I think it’s worth it. It has a very good cast-- Pinar Deniz (Ceylin Erguvan) and Kaan Urgancıoğlu (Ilgaz Kaya) are a good match. What’s missing from the Telemundo version is a wonderful Turkish soundtrack and the quotes shown at the beginning of each episode.
I’ve had to catch up, since I’m still in the process of moving while working full-time. The two-hour eps were a killer. No way I can do recaps at this point. So, if anyone else overcomes their anger at Telemundo and decides to watch, we can at least discuss the episodes. I’ll be around.
Hi, Dondi, so nice to " see" you here . I have not been watching Secrets ,and I miss having a dizi to watch. I am recording and watching " Juego."
However, I am really enjoying " El Amor Invenicible" on Uni. It has a great cast and an interesting plot . We are not sure which actor will be the galan at the end ...the good guy or the bad ( maybe really good ) guy.
Thanks VERY much, novelera, for another excellent recap. I especially loved your quoting M.S. as saying "Dios yada yada."
I was a little confused about the scene between César and the Thugs in the prison yard. At first, it seems like all four of the Thugs are out to provoke César. The Main Thug (Baldy) tries to slug César, but César ducks and Baldy misses. He tries again, but this time it looks as if one or more of his thuggy buddies hold him back. The guards then enter the scene and César is apparently safe, at least for the moment. But why did Baldy's buddies prevent him from hitting César?
Another thing that confused me was Renata's ability to tell Chuy the witness's name, Berenice Lopez. One or two episodes ago, I thought I heard Renata hear or say the name Berenice Conseco, or something like that. I remember being somewhat relieved that that's the person she'd tell Chuy to look for, not Berenice Lopez. Oops, no such luck. Did I hallucinate "Conseco"? I remember even writing it down.
The photo of the Dream House looks like it may prove to be Chuy's Nightmare House. Cami shows Ale the fragment that came on the rock that broke César's window. Ale, already uneasy about Chuy, now has even more reason to be nervous. We can see her mentally putting this together with Chuy's use of her computer.... Will she be Chuy's next victim?
Wow, that scene where Chuy seems to shoot Renata really had me fooled for a couple of seconds. I enjoyed your speculating that Viewerville may have had a few such wishful thinking scenes.
I hate to say this, but I doubt that we're going to get though this novela without Cami being in danger of losing her life. Not sure just how, but it seems inevitable. However, I think it's also inevitable that she and César will have a HEA ending.
As a recently retired person I was able to watch the two weeks of two-hour episodes. But I was grumbling all the way. It DID seem as if they crammed more commercials in there, so I could skip through a lot on the recording. And the fact that Juego isn't on until midnight gave me more time for the Turkish one.
I agree that it's well done. I'm captured by the plot, and totally loathing Pars. What a nasty little man.
I won't say more about last night's episode, which was key, in case you're not all the way caught up, dondi.
Yes, the two leads are very good. The script reveals their conflicting personalities: the rule following Ilgaz contrasted with the rebellious Ceylin.
I'd be happy to put up a comment each day, but don't want to put up spoilers in case anyone is still trying to recover from the two-hour madness.
Thanks for the kind words.
Weirdo, the only thing that comes to mind about Chuy telling Renata he couldn't find Berenice is that he's changed strategies. For some reason he now seems to want Pascual to be blamed. Maybe now that he thinks Adriana is dead, having shot her himself, he's not upset with César any more. And, we were pretty sure he killed Mariana (thinking it was Adriana), but his putting the amusement park ticket in Pascual's closet seemed to confirm that he was there.
deb, as usual, you have your Sherlock Holmes cap on. Of course Chuy usually left the murder weapon and he did so in the fake Lucy suicide. But how would there have been Mariana blood on the t-shirt since she was shot from a distance? Plus the gun that shot Mariana was found in that Adriana backpack, along with the purloined passport.
Susanlynn, I am also enjoying Maria Luisa's performance as DAMAS. In a recent episode, joking with Chuy I think, she even put on Diana de Nadie's Argentinian accent, laughing about it.
Juanita, the only reason I can come up with for the other thugs restraining Baldy is that the writers need César to show up in court, not end up in another coma. You are not crazy. I heard the same different last name for Berenice. I just put it down to the writers having been on a bender the night before. I think the photo of the house with Cara Sucia on the back that Cami showed Ale was the one Linda and César found it with Adriana's designer clothes. I don't think the message on the rock was the same, but IIRC it was the dream house with a different message.
I was also confused by Chuy saying he'd do something about Berenice. He's going to drive back to San Diego and kidnap and/or kill her? I doubt it. I sure hope César gets out because I'm not in the mood for him to be found guilty and have 20 weeks of jail visits from Cami. And weeping and wailing from Noelia and Elvira.
thanks novelera, I forgot all about the gun in the backpack, wow, so what's this new gun and bloody shirt, so many details in this story.
#60 "El juicio"
Cami shows Ale the beach house photo Cesar had found signed Cara, Ale is shook, clams up and leaves.
Renata and Pascual talk family before bedtime, Pascual changes his story and says he did not kill Adriana, Renata doesn't want to grow old alone, Pascual wants to leave.
Adriana swings by for a last look at Noelia, Cami sees someone and gives chase, Adriana hops over a fence and is gone (wow, she could be the bunny from the park)
Ale checks her laptop and sees Adriana's email account on there, Chuy?, who appears since he has a key to her place, her nerves give her away, Chuy knocks her out with a rag over her face.
Pascual went to the office, checks out Mariana online, then goes to Adriana's hideout, gets naked and hops into bed to wait for Adriana, numerous calls to her don't seem to help, Adriana is at the orphanage busy practicing being Mariana.
all rise, case 4127 begins, Noelia is home with Yvonne, Raimundo pleads for Cesar, GUILTY, what?
GumChew swings by to let Renata know FJ has filed a murder complaint against Pascual, the investigation has started and there isn't much he can do.
Rai says trust me, Cesar says you're fired.
Chuy brings Ale a kiss and a cup of coffee, as she wakes up tied at a different location, Chuy didn't want to disturb Ale's neighbors.
Renata swings by the court house, heads off Berenice, could I talk to you for a minute?
(did they do it), Ale is untied as Chuy begins his rant, first his mother abandoned him, then Olga, he played second string to the del Rio boys, then Adriana betrayed him, Ale says she didn't like Adriana either, she would never betray him.
Vero of course is waiting in the courtroom lobby for some dirt, Rai spills that Cesar 'dispensed' with his services.
as the story goes, Chuy was packing for the trip to the beach house (they got the million) when Adriana calls, wants to meet at the foundation, she wants to make a deal, met a man, Chuy blows a gasket but Estela walks in, and went on to investigate them... Ale smashes Chuy on the head with a vase, but it wasn't enough, Chuy says going away with Ale was his chance to stop killing, (so Ie guess that's not going to happen).
Cesar lays out his case on a map of the amusement park, murder here, shot from here, I was over here as seen by a collection of photos, but were they doctored? Cesar brings up his first witness, Cami, OBJECTION, she's his girlfriend, her testimony will be biased, no, no, they broke up when Cami decided he was guilty, well ok.
Pascual meets with Tomas, who knows his dad is not a murderer, just a sex addict, he suggests therapy, as Pascual checks out the waitress, you slept with mom's sister, is her son yours, no,no, it was just a one night stand, as Tomas goes into trying to locate him at the orphanage where Adriana grew up, bingo, that's where Adriana might be Pascual thinks, love you, stop by the house, Pascual tells Tomas, and he is out the door.
Cesar has a second witness, Berenice, or does he, where is she?
Deb: Good Job on the recap of last night's episode.
I see that Chuy is all but confirmed as Cara Sucia I think. Ale escapes by smashing a vase at the freak's head LOL. Good thing Californians rejected her buji EXPLETIVE from being reelected to the United States Senate.
Adriana OMG: Is anyone going to find out she's faking being Mariana ?
Cesar being trued for the Fake Adriana's death: Fast Forward.
Steve Boudreaux
Thanks so much for the snappy, witty recap, deb. I really loved all the clever details!
OK. Is it the Boy Scouts who say: always be prepared? The #1 telenovela villain rule is similar: always carry a chloroform-soaked rag with you just in case your girlfriend changes up on you.
Ale, you should have been smarter than to use a vase someone could have crushed by just squeezing it.
deb, I think you were joking about Adriana being fast enough to have been in the bunny suit. For one thing we saw that brief moment when she was at the amusement park as well and reacted by clutching her stomach as if she'd been shot as well (twin cliché).
Wow! I guess Renata's little chat, and threat to reveal Ale' dirty dealings, must have worked. Without consulting with his client, Rai pleads guilty for him. Boy that Telenovela Law is soooo sketchy.
I can't STAND IT if Renata wins again and César is declared guilty. I'm not sure the writers of this one are capable of writing an anvil big enough for her.
Deb, I'm in awe of how you always manage to capture everything important so cleverly and concisely. Certainly you've done it again in this recap!
One thing I noticed at the start of the episode was the frightened Ale telling Cami, "You may see me at the trial. I may have something to say."
I suspect that Ale might have been thinking of revealing what she now knows about Chuy. However, I kinda doubt that she's going to be able to get there.
GumChew is apparently still loyal to the hand that pays him. He tries to dissuade FJ from filing a denuncio against Pascual. I enjoyed FJ's telling him, "I don't need advice, I need justice. Eva's death was not an accident."
Ah, we finally see why Estela claimed that "Adriana's husband" tried to kill her. She saw Chuy and Adriana arguing at the Foundation (Adriana was in the process of dumping Chuy), and Estela assumed Chuy was Adriana's husband.
I wonder what Renata has done with/to Berenice. My hope is that if Berenice doesn't show up at the trial and the judge sends the case to the jury, they may actually decide in César's favor just on the basis of the arguments that César and Cami have offered. I say this in part because the arguments were compelling, and because I can't believe the writers would force us to watch yet another scene of César in prison. ¡Ya basta!
Juanita, from your lips to God's ears, as they say. I like your idea of the jury finding César not guilty based on what Cami demonstrated. Plus, Arap Bethke is a good actor and his opening remarks to the jury were convincing. If only he had shaved! And he should have worn a dark suit instead of, what was that, seersucker?
I know this is probably my own preference, but a guy with European genes instead of 100% Latin-American ones, has too heavy a beard for that to appear as a nice, light stubble. It just makes him look brutish.
Novelera, I completely agree with what you've said about Arap. I've never understood why he wears that scruffy, scarey beard. It makes him look like a thug. Hmmm...perhaps the writers are deliberately playing with our preconceptions. Chuy looks like the ideal hero, and César looks like the assassin.
Thanks, deb for the short and enjoyable recap!
I'm slightly getting creeped out by Renata-Pascual. It's like they can't stand being together and can't stand being without each other at the same time. We have a saying in Greece about that lol.
Novelera, I also won't stand it if Renata wins again. I'm SO ready for César to get out of prison.
Juanita, thanks for explaining Estela saying the "Adriana's husband" line.
Who's doing today's morning's recap? Saying it again in case someone didn't see it: I can do Friday's recap (Thursday night/Friday morning).
Glad you’re watching, novelera. I’m caught up. I hope others are caught up, too. I don’t want to give spoilers either. The story moves along quickly.
Clever set up—seemed half the cast could have been Inci’s killer. I never suspected the actual killer and neither did Ceylin.
Wow, Ceylin has a terrible, violent temper. I got a chill when she confessed her murderous feelings to Ilgaz. Is Ceylin capable of murder? Do you think this is a foreshadow?
Ilgaz is the opposite of Ceylin. He pretty much stuffs his emotions. Why did Ilgaz break up with Neva? She still has hopes to reconcile with him.
ITA Pars is nasty. Ambitious, petty and jealous. It’s awful how he treats poor Ridvan. I think he’s sort of creepy, especially when it comes to his sister. What’s with the eye drops?
Yekta is the big baddie, an amoral character. Psychopath. Concocting alibis, burning furniture, planting evidence on the slimy, but innocent of murder, Osman. He doesn’t give a damn about his son, only himself. Then there’s his wife, the guilt-ridden Lacin. They made me think of Resat Yasaran and his wife, Perihan in Fatmagul.
Why the coverup, Metin? Zafer kidnapped Cinar and what happened was clearly a case of self defense. Oh boy, Ilgaz and Ceylin are driving around in Metin’s car that has something very interesting in the trunk!
Interesting discussion between Pars and Neva on how romantic relationships work and why they don’t work.
Also interesting, Ceylin and Ilgaz questioning each other on previous relationships.
We are on Turkish episode 8, and the quote is: "Whenever we run from something, we run straight into something else." --Michael Balint
Dondi, I appreciated your recap and will try to watch this show , but life is busy right now , and I am already watching a few Uni shows . So glad to have the telenovelas and dizis because nothing much interests me on the regular channels .
I've just finished watching the episode. I'm not usually free in the morning, but since I am today, I'll try to put up a recap in an hour or so.
Ep. #61 p. 1 of 2
After much pleading from Camila, the judge agrees to extend the proceedings for one day, to give more time for the key witness to appear.
Chuy asks Olga to say that he was here at home last night. Olga is worried.
Pascual comes to the orphanage and screams out for Adriana/Mariana.
Vero tells Cami that Renata was here at the courthouse. "I saw her talking to a woman."
Pascual bursts into the room Adriana and Susana share. Only Susana is there. The Mother Superior enters and orders Pascual to leave at once, threatening to call the police. He agrees to leave. The MS sees him out.
As soon as they're gone, Adriana appears from where she was hiding. Susana asks who the man was. "A bastard," Adriana replies, "Someone who won't believe that I don't want to be with him. I'm no longer safe here."
Ale, still tied up, is screaming for help. Chuy appears and tells her to stop screaming, she'll hurt her throat.(!) Ale tries to convince Chuy that she wants to be with him, that he has taught her to appreciate the simple things in life. Chuy, however, says yet again that she will betray him, just as every other woman has. She offers to work together. He says she will help...by dying.
FJ tells Tomás he needs to talk to Ale about a divorce, but she isn't answering her phone. Tomás tells FJ to drop the complaint against their father, he's not a murderer. FJ disagrees: "Eva was going to tell me about Pascual, and so he killed her."
Adriana tells the MS, "I don't have a life any more, so I need to steal my sister's life." The MS feels somewhat responsible for how things have turned out for Adriana. She tells her, "I should have refused the couple [who adopted Mariana] or insisted that they take the two of you." Adriana claims "My life would have been very different by my sister'side." She announces that she'll leave tomorrow and start from zero.
Cami confronts Renata about Berenice. Renata insists that César is a criminal and doesn't deserve Cami. Pascual arrives, is delighted to see Cami. She says, "I'm embarrassed to have you two as parents."
Tomás explains to Ines that he's confused about the changing story. First, Renata claims she gave Valeria's baby up for adoption, then she says the baby died at birth. Ines explains simply: "Your mother is a liar."
Tomás reveals to Ines that Pascual was "involved" with Valeria. He asks Ines not to tell anyone. He admits that yes, he thinks perhaps Pascual was the baby's father, but then he thinks perhaps the baby grew up without a family. That makes him think of Miguelito. Ines says she too thinks a lot about Miguelito.
Adriana says goodbye to everyone. Susana says she'll miss her. Adriana walks off as Mariana.
Cami announces to Renata, "If César stays in prison because of you, you'll never see me again." This upsets Pascual. Cami tells him, "I could never hate you, but I can't forgive you. How could you do what you did to FJ?"
Chuy tells Ale he wants to send a message to Paco.
Cami tells Elvira what Renata did to sabotage César's defense. Elviratries to cheer Cami (and herself) up: "Together we'll pull this off. We don't need that witness. I feel it in my heart." Cami, of course, blames herself.
Chuy forces Ale to leave a message from her phone for FJ. Her message: "I'm with your father at a restaurant. Where are you? I need to explain things to you." Chuy is pleased and wants to send a message to Camila as well. He asks Ale, "How would you tell Camila her father is an assassin?"
Ep. #61 p. 2 of 2
Camila tries again to reach Berenice by phone. She leaves a long, rather eloquent message (sorry, I can't reproduce the eloquence here, but I found it quite moving). She says that César is a wonderful man and father, and that César is all that his daughter has left. "And that's true of me as well." She points out that "Only you can keep him from prison." And she ends by saying, "I don't know whether my mother gave you money or lies, but what she said isn't true."
Rai comes to see Renata to say how worried he is at not being able to reach Ale. Apparently Rai calls Chuy, who puts on a very convincing worried voice, saying he, too, hasn't been able to reach Ale and of course he'll be in touch as soon as he hears from her. After the call ends, Chuy tells Ale that he was going to get FJ blamed for Pascual's death, but he'll have to settle for having FJ blamed for Ale's death. "See," he tells her, "I'm not such a good guy after all!"
Noelia tells Elvira that she can't sleep. She's very worried about her father, and she has a sick feeling in her stomach. Elvira advises her to pray until she falls asleep, telling her "That's what I do." Noelia replies, "What if I ask Mommy for help? She's not as busy as the Virgencita."
The next morning, we see César in a darker suit. Berenice still hasn't turned up, the perra leading the prosecution loudly objects to granting one more nimute, and the judge is about to tell the jury to begin their deliberations. Suddenly (trumpet fanfare here!) in rushes Berenice! "I'm here! Can I still testify?"
The Mother Superior comes to see where Ines works. On the one hand, she tells her there are many people seeking to adopt, and on the other, she tells Ines, "All you really need is love." The MS is especially pleased when Ines mentions their interest in Miguelito. Most families are reluctant to adopt an older child. The MS shares the enthusiasm that Ines and Tomás feel for Miguelito. He's kind, generous.
Berenice has apparently finished her testimony. The jury is now deliberating. (We see none of this.) Berenice tells Cami, "Your mother said terrible things about César." Berenice says there's also something she didn't mention at the trial or to César: a detective came to see her and showed her a photo of the person suspected of being the killer. She shows Cami a photo of...Pascual. Cami is taken aback. "That's not possible! That's my father!"
The scene shifts to Miami. "Mariana" arrives at her mansion, opens the unlocked door (HUH??), and calls out "My love...I'm here!" A man waiting at the top of the steps comes down to greet her. Instead of embracing her, he slaps her hard on her face, saying "You can't imagine how much I've been waiting for this! Welcome home, my love!"
The scene shifts back to the courtroom, where the judge announces, "The State of California has reached a decision." We must wait at the edge of this cliff until Friday's episode.
Novelera, thank you so much for that excellent account as the writers throw more and more ingredients into this bubbling brew.
The writers and Chuy did a good job of fooling me. I felt sorry for the poor boy becoming power driven Ale's boytoy . Wow , this guy is crazy bad .
DAMAS ....new plan = frying pan >>>>>>Fire
wow, excellent recap Juanita!
you cover everything so well, I even learned some things from where the captioning failed.
interesting seeing Ale in the same position Adriana was when Ale gloated over her, what really makes this work is that novela characters never need a bathroom, Chuy is bad, he brought her food then ate it all.
we see a guard bringing Cesar to court this time, I was beginning to wonder if he was driving himself, no one seems to notice it wasn't that long ago Cesar was in court accused of killing Adriana, hmm, I guess only Pascual (and the orphanage) know that she is still alive.
and I guess the judge is ok with Cami floating around making statements to the jury, she would be more of a co-counsel than a witness, you would think telemundo would spring for a kangaroo or two to add to the decorum of the courtroom, which already seems a lot friendlier than most.
maybe Adriana will appreciate more the life she had, and I'm hoping Mariana's husband is no match for her.
and the verdict is...
Thanks, dondi, I am also caught up. At this point we haven't seen anyone else who might be soldiering through the two-hour episodes, so I'm going to comment on current happenings.
Well, Pars was 50/50 last night. He's still trying to get all the dirt on Ilgas's grandfather's police records. And so what? Having a criminal grandfather doesn't make anyone a bad person. But he wasn't letting Yekta slide.
So...is Zafer's body in the trunk of the blue car? Metin is desperate to get the car back from Ilgaz. We only saw him burn up clothes and other possessions.
Yes, why do they keep withholding the reason Ilgaz broke it off with Neva. She's not the usual conniving "other woman", though. But she definitely hates Ilgaz having married Ceylin.
Yes, Pars borders on incestuous about Neva. I think other cultures may have different views about "protecting their womenfolk". But it's also about his jealousy of Ilgaz and one more reason to want to, it seems, ruin his career.
I hate the way Turkish names just melt in my brain overnight. Anyway...the young guy who's the real murderer of Inci has made a personality change, several actually. At first he was sweet and Ceylin's sidekick. Then he was half crazy, riddled with guilt. When it looked like his guilt might actually be discovered, he became daddy's boy and looks sinister all the time.
We can see Yekta's careful work. The nurse at the clinic has already been paid off to say his son was there. And we saw the blood sample the nice cop found being replaced. Dang! At least Yekta's changing all the furniture didn't get swept under the rug.
Finally got to watch this episode . Pasqual bursting into the convent like a braying bull in a China shop was classic Pasqual.
We see Olga's big , sweet boy hugging her and baby talking . Then we see Chuy sucia trying to feed Ale even though he is planning to kill her . He finally gives up trying to feed her , and eats it himself. ...very pragmatic . Something snapped in this guy. What a bitter pill it must be to have your hunky , obedient boy toy suddenly turn into a BSC guy.
So, at what age was Mariana adopted ? If Chuy was adopted at age ten, I am wondering how long Diana was in the convent after that . She lost her twin and her best friend and was left behind. Sad. Something snapped in her , too. Now it looks like she has jumped into a bad situation . No rest for the wicked .
Susanlynn, IIRC, Mariana was adopted when she and Adriana were five years old. I'm not sure about the difference in age between Chuy and the twin girls. I think he may be a year or two older. So Adriana may have lost her twin at age 5, but she still may have had her buddy Cara Sucia for several years beyond that.
Thanks so much, Juanita, for the terrific recap with asides that resonated!
So that small suitcase Madriana left the orphanage with had inside that gorgeous, strapless blue gown. I thought César and Linda had donated all the fancy clothes she scammed from the celebrity designer.
I was not surprised by the husband (William?) being a brute. deb, ITA about DAMAS being able to outsmart the rich husband. I don't think he's even close to being a match for her.
I was SO relieved when Berenice showed up. And what other verdict could there be besides "not guilty". There's a very likeable witness testifying that he was a kilometer away when the shots were fired.
I LOVED Cami telling Renata she'll never see either parent again if César is found guilty. But she should refuse to spend one minute with her toxic mother even (when) he's found not guilty. Of course this is a TN, and behavior is exaggerated, but the lengths to which Renata goes to get her children into loveless, but in her mind appropriate, marriages is ghastly.
I'm a bit confused about Chuy's plot. The actor really brought the crazy last night, didn't he? How can he bring Ale to a restaurant to be killed and put the blame on...Pascual? FJ? Won't the waiters object?
Too late, Mother Superior. Adriana controlled herself more than I would have done. Separate twins to get one adopted? Really? And the undertone is that Adriana wasn't quite as well behaved, so...I'm wondering if Mariana's upbringing by loving parents somehow made her compliant and the sort of woman who put up with years of abuse until she lit out for San Diego.
I always love your vlever, insightful comments, deb, whether they're in a recap or a comment. Yes, telenovela characters apparently never need a bathroom! I also enjoyed your suggesting some kangaroo decorations for the kangaroo court. Actually, though, I'm hoping they're not a kangaroo court. And YES, I hope Adriana finds an effective way to deal with William the Bully.
The scene of the twins being separated was sad . Then, when Adriana leaves the convent with her rolling suitcase she morphs into a little girl leaving .
