#63 – Sin Otra Opción Parte 1 de 2

Linda and César discuss the missing report she’s brought. It’s about Mariana Stanford and the report came from Miami. César thinks it’s due to another alias, but Linda tells him that this woman has a family. She’s been married for 10 years to William Stanford. [Hmm. That daughter is awfully tall for 9 years old unless they married when she was 5 years old.] Linda: “Could Adriana have a sister?” Linda goes on to say that the person who reported Mariana missing was her personal trainer.

Adriana goes to the gym to chew out Angelo, the trainer, for reporting her missing. He justifies himself by reminding her how dangerous William is. [Mariana sure know how to pick ‘em. This Angelo is as annoying as William] He notices that she’s “cold”. He can’t believe she isn’t more broken up about losing “his child”. She tells him it’s over; she’s going back to her husband. He is aghast, saying she pursued HIM, and he broke up with his girlfriend.

Cami is very suspicious and tells her parents how bad the bloody t-shirt and gun look. She says that she came back to reconcile with them. [Why?] Now she thinks her father could have killed César’s wife. She mentions the ticket to the amusement park. If Pascual killed Adriana, she won’t be able to look César in the eye. She says she’s leaving forever, for the 5th or 6th time.

Pascual tells Renata he’s leaving before the cops come to arrest him. FJ has told them he killed Eva.

Cami advises Chuy to leave with his mother. Ray shows up. He has the gall to tell her how much time and resources he invested in defending César only for him to remove him as counsel. Cami: “He was proven innocent because he got rid of you. You betrayed me. You’re working for my mother, right?”

Pascual tells Renata he knows she doesn’t like guns, but she finds another way to kill.

An honest L.A cop shows up at The Zoo.

Tomás and Inés bring Miguelito back to the orphanage. He had such a good time. Tomás impulsively offers to set up una cancha de fútbol (soccer pitch) and to get the boy a uniform. Tomás gets a big hug. One Father Alberto shows up. Tomás identifies himself. Clever Inés mentions Tomás’ cousin being brought there, and the priest slips up.

César comes to see FJ and shows him the missing poster and says that a personal trainer declared Mariana Stanford missing. He goes on to tell FJ that Mariana Stanford returned home, and the issue of her being missing was shut down.

Detective Fernández has come to interview Pascual, who keeps trying to get him to have some wine. After some back and forth, Pascual asks him to leave. Fernández says they’ll get together at the police station along with Pascual’s lawyer. Renata walks in and makes nice. She takes the cop into her office. She says that FJ was very upset with his father. She also says that she fired Eva and assumed she used her severance pay to travel. She admits knowing about the relationship Eva had with her husband. When they first sit down, he says he’s not like Barros!

#63 – Sin Otra Opción Parte 2 de 2

Pascual throws things in a suitcase. He tells Renata he’s doing it to save the both of them. The police are after him for what FJ said, but they both could be under suspicion. Renata starts sobbing. [Boo freakin’ hoo!] They each say “I love you.” [What a pair of sickosj!]

Pascual bids farewell to Olga and Chuy. After he leaves Chuy asks Olga if she knows where Pascual went and is told she does not.

Noelia tells Cami that all the students at school were happy that her father is home. She thanks her mother in the sky for helping to get her father free. “Wherever you are, thank you.”

And, there’s DAMAS putting the final touches on dinner. Doesn’t look like fish, rather a beef roast. She sprinkles something in William’s glass. William is “shocked” that Mariana doesn’t pray before dinner. Then he barks at her for pouring herself some wine. He reminds her she’s taking medications. She does come up with a quick prayer that sounds more like a toast.

César tells Cami about the photo Linda showed him. “What if she has a sister?” Cami cannot believe that Adriana wouldn’t have told him something like that. Cami suggests that he go to the orphanage. She got blown off, but maybe he could insist and even find another person to ask.

The love theme plays while Cami and César make love. We then see William come to bed and, I think, pass out on her shoulder. She shoves him off. “What a life you had, my sister!”

Renata mopes around her empty house. “Poor me” is all over her face. What did she expect, a Mother of the Year cushion? A little drunk, she goes to bother the staff. FJ shows up to speak with Pascual about a woman identical to Adriana. Renata tells him that his father left fleeing from the police. FJ insists that his father is guilty of killing Eva.

He needs to ask about that woman in the hotel. Renata tells him that Mariana Stanford is the twin sister of Adriana. She shows him Mariana’s web site, saying she is a socialite, not a trepadora (social climber) like Adriana. FJ is stunned.

César has taken Noelia to school. He says he was treated like a king. Elvira has returned to her house.

Tomás comes to ask his mother how she can lie so easily. He asks why she lied to Valeria. He knows her son is alive. Renata’s face freezes.

Chuy comes to see FJ, “concerned” about Ale. He shows FJ on a map where Ale’s phone is. He says he’s going there and just wants someone to know where he’s gone in case he doesn’t return. FJ agrees to go with him.

Cami tells César that she found a gun and a t-shirt with blood on it in her father’s armoire. She also tells him about Berenice having shown her the photo of Pascual. She’s afraid he might be a killer.

secrets

Recap coming shortly.

secrets #15 part 1

At the kebapcı, Ilgaz asks point blank, do you have a secret agenda or are you being cornered? Which is it, Pars? Pars states, there’s none. He gets up from the table and Ilgaz grabs his arm. You know I won’t stop until I find the answer, Pars. Pars turns and goes without another word but he looks nervous and adjusts his tie.

Metin is on the move. He stops in some wooded area. He gives his car a thorough scrubbing, inside and out.

Pars has taken Lacin’s statement. Bravo, mother and son working together, he says, everything matches. Great performance!

Eren and IlCey watch video that shows rental car on the night of the murder. They can’t see the driver because of the hat and hoodie. Then he heads to the dumpster. Eren offers to FF that part. Next the car goes to the Galata district. The driver gets out and walks away and they lose sight of him on the side streets.

Eren thinks something is strange. The law office is nearby but Engin heads in a different direction. Ilgaz wonders, how do we find out where he went? Do we know anyone in the area, Ceylin asks? Ilgaz answers, we will work as a team…welcome to my world, Ceylin, we can’t find out working behind a desk. Ceylin is pleased. Eren says he will check, too, and swears he will find out.

Pars is doing his investigations at the hospital. He pretends to be a patient. Suhal is his nurse. He flatters her, Suhal is a pretty name, it suits you. She helps him lie down and says the doctor said you had a panic attack. A specialist will come to see you later. She turns to go and he grabs her hand, what if you stay? If you are not busy. It feels nice to have someone with me right now. She stays.

IlCey run into Metin at the station. Ilgaz is surprised. He asks, did you put your retirement on pause? Metin replies he has a lot of things to settle. He only went out for a little air and he walks away. Ceylin is puzzled. Isn’t he young to be retiring? Ilgaz says his father wanted to, he said he was tired. [Ilgaz is chronically suspicious. It must be tiring]

Metin asks for cases of anyone reported missing in the last 24 hours. He looks at a file… a man in his 50s left for work and didn’t return.

Ilgaz and Ceylin set out to retrace Engin’s steps after he left the car. Hmmm…they are starting to get along.

Osman is at home, disheveled and drunk. Parla arrives home and gets upset. How could you do this to mom? How could you be with another woman and come home to us?! She is angry that he asked her to keep quiet about Zumrut. She feels used and calls him sick.

Osman shouts back, am I the only one to blame?! Your mother is not easy to deal with. She’s never happy. She broke down after we lost Deniz. She took meds but they didn’t work. Parla defends her mother. She’s not crazy.

Osman leaves the room and comes back with clothes that Aylin continued to buy for Deniz after he died, as if he were still alive. She washes them. She sleeps in his room. Parla blames her dad for some of this—you didn’t see her pain. She couldn’t move on. Did you help her? She calls him a liar, selfish and evil. She declares, I don’t have a father anymore.

Lacin finds her key does not open the door to her house. And Yekta does not open the door for her.

secrets #15 part 2

Metin tells Eren he’s going to withdraw his request for retirement. Eren brings him up to speed on the latest cases. A daughter killed her mother. And the body of a 55 year old man was found. Uh, oh. Metin is nervous. No ID for the man but there are pictures. Eren’s desk is a mess, and he can’t readily find them. He says there were no fingerprints on the body or gun. It looks like it was a professional job. Eren finds the pic. It’s not Zafer.

IlCey arrive at the spot where the car was left. Why would Engin come here? There is a bridge nearby and they head in that direction.

Metin reviews video. He sees the trunk of his car was opened but an ambulance is blocking who opened it.

IlCey speculate why Engin would come to the bridge. Did he want to jump? Did he want to get rid of something? Did he just want air? This makes Ceylin uncomfortable. If this wasn’t her sister’s case… Ilgaz is sure that Engin got rid of something. Ceylin thinks… the phone… Inci’s missing phone. Ilgaz says there’s probably video. Let’s go back to the station.

He puts his hand on hers. Your hands are warm, she says. Are you cold, he asks. He takes her hands in his. Come closer, he says. [Their theme music starts to play.] He blows on her hands to warm them! She didn’t expect that [neither did I]. She pulls back, ok, that’s enough. He wants to give her his coat. No thanks… let’s go. She turns away and a slight smile comes across her face.

Pars checks out of the hospital. He thanks Suhal and asks her out for coffee. She jumps at the offer.

Back at the station, Ilgaz brings Ceylin linden tea. She jokes, keep this up and I’ll fall for you [many a serious thing said in jest]. Ilgaz says nothing. They review the footage and find Engin. He breaks the phone. Ceylin thinks that’s it! Ilgaz says not really. Engin will say his father forced him. And they have to prove the phone was Inci’s. But he adds, we are on the right track.

Lacin tries to check into a hotel. All her credit cards are declined.

Eren tells IlCey that cat hair was discovered in the suitcase where Inci was found. Ceylin remembers—Engin has a cat! Eren says they can match the hairs and gets to work on that. Ilgaz thinks that’s not enough. Ceylin sits at Eren’s desk to continue working. Ilgaz wants to go, he says it’s best to get some sleep. She gives in.

Pars comes home. Neva tells him she spoke with Ilgaz’s Aunt Makbule. Pars thinks his sister is still too hopeful. Neva says no one in his family knows Ilgaz is married. Neva wants to out him. Pars says go ahead but it won’t work. He tells his sister to give up hope.

Neva hands Pars a sandwich, but something is wrong with him. He doesn’t say anything and it seems he can’t move his arm.

Lacin goes to the police station. She asks Eren if she can wait for her son. A strange request. He leads her to a chair and orders tea for her.

IlCey arrive home and she’s feeling uncomfortable. She thinks she should have stayed at the station. He tells her, we argued today, we’re tired and tense. Don’t you dream of sleeping in a warm bed? She responds, I can’t picture that because your sofa is uncomfortable. Don’t blame me, Ilgaz answers, I asked you, but you are very stubborn. Ceylin says they shouldn’t cross that line. [let’s give it a few more episodes]

secrets #15 part 3

Ceylin asks if Metin knows [about them being married]. What happens when they find out? Why don’t you tell them? Ilgaz replies, maybe it’s because I don’t know what to say. They go upstairs. Ilgaz wants to take a shower but he asks if she wants to go first. Maybe we should just shower together, she snarks [yes, maybe in a few more episodes]. They say good night. İyi geceler.

Pars is in his room. He cannot move his arm. Neva knocks at his door. She’s worried, he hasn’t eaten. He shouts out, it’s nothing. He doesn't want to eat. Good night. Pars sits in a chair beside the bed.

Ceylin dreams of her father walking through the woods. He pushes Inci on a swing. She asks if mom or Ceylin are coming. No, he answers, they are far away. Inci runs. Ceylin wakes up. She gets up and heads to the bathroom. Oops, Ilgaz opens the door. He’s shirtless with a towel around his neck. I slept for 10 minutes, she says, but I feel like I slept for ages. Maybe it was more like 15 minutes, Ilgaz replies. He turns to go to his room.

She asks him about a scar near his hip. I was chasing after a murderer, he replies, it took a long time to catch him. He shot me. The bullet entered here and exited there. Ceylin laughs, a bullet wound? She touches it. People tend to talk about these things, she says, but you never mentioned it. You’re strange [There’s that theme music again]. She still has her hand on him. He takes her hand. He gazes at her and she avoids it. Her hand goes back to his body and they move in closer, ready for a kiss.

And instead of a kiss… we get a poorly timed commercial break. And when we return, Eren calls Ilgaz to interrupt. The cat hair matches. If we prove Engin used the suitcase, that’s it. Ilgaz goes for the high five, but Ceylin backs away and goes into the bathroom. Ceylin has to calm herself down. Ilgaz thinks in his room.

Next morning, Ilgaz voices concern for Cinar, but says he can’t check on him. Ceylin volunteers. When she checks, Cinar pretends to be asleep. Metin asks her if she came so early just to check on Cinar. Makbule snipes, haven’t you heard she’s staying with Ilgaz? She didn’t have to come very far. Metin knew but thought this was only temporary. Ceylin feels their coldness and says she’s leaving today.

Pars wakes up in the chair and he can move his arm.

Ilgaz gets his car back. Ceylin tells him that Cinar was sleeping. He senses something is wrong but she says it’s nothing.

Eren updates Pars. He tells the DA about the luggage and the cat hair. Pars isn’t satisfied. Engin could say the luggage belongs to his father. It’s not enough. Eren shows Pars the footage from the bridge. Engin breaks the phone and throws it in the water. Pars maintains they need more evidence. It’s a disappointment. Pars says they are running out of time. The judge will release Engin and he will have to let him go.

Eren says he will find the evidence needed. Eren sees that Lacin is still at the station. He checks in with Ilgaz and tells him that Pars says the findings are not enough. Ilgaz tells Ceylin they are running out of time.

And we have run out of time.

excellent recap novelera !!! I always enjoy reading them!

Mariana's death really stops me, apparently the police investigation never touched on the fact that her name was Mariana, did she have no ID on her (how did they know it was Adriana), seems they never went to the hotel, and no one has connected the missing report with her death, and all this with the high profile murder trial involving Cesar.

ah yes, Rai the whining lawyer, go away.

interesting how Ines investigation, even discovering Val's son did not die but was put in that orphanage, is so separate from Cami's.

everyone Renata manipulates has left her, what will she do now, it's heartbreaking (not), and touching (not) when Pascual says he's leaving so the police will think he killed Eva and not connect it to Renata, (they really should move the body out of their garden) when these two go to prison they need to be locked in the same cell, in solitary.

ha, had to laugh when Renata asked FJ why he rang the doorbell, he lives there, and he said he threw the keys away.

so Mariana is reported to have returned home, and Cesar is off to the orphanage, why isn't everyone going to Florida?

and how did Renata know Adriana had a twin sister, she didn't originally even know her name was Adriana, was it just from an online background check?

good thing detective FJ is on the case, he should have this sorted out in no time.

Secrets

Thank you, dondi356.

Ilgaz and Ceylin, in their investigation on site, were like Sherlock Holmes and Watson.

Nurse Suhal was the same nurse that "treated" Engin when he went to the hospital the night of the murder. Or rather the one that Yekta arranged to give Engin alibi. Pars must be trying to dig around to see if he can undermine her declaration.

"Metin reviews video. He sees the trunk of his car was opened but an ambulance is blocking who opened it." This was in front of some window, so you could see a reflection in the window of some of what was going on. Someone from behind the ambulance walked to the car, opened the trunk, took what was in the trunk and walked away behind the ambulance.

"She jokes, keep this up and I’ll fall for you [many a serious thing said in jest]." and "[in a few more episodes]" - they really have been getting along today.

Well, the detectives made some progress on the case but not enough. Not sure why the time limit is important. If Engin gets out from the 24 hour detention, is he going to run away? Is that what they are afraid of?

secrets

Very helpful comments, Lucio! Thanks so much.

Yes, you are correct, Suhal was part of the murder alibi. Maybe Pars can get some valuable info from her.

You have eagle eyes, I did not notice the reflection in the window! I re-watched the scene. Who ever it was came and went quickly. I don’t think Metin could make an ID from that but now he knows someone stole Zafer. Is it possible for Zafer to still be alive?

Most definitely our Scooby Gang, is afraid Engin will skip. And that was what Engin and his mom had planned. Wonder if Engin has his own money, because daddy cut mommy off.

Telemundo – Inter Medya

The first episode of the Telemundo and Inter Medya project, Blue Cage, (Turkish release title, Maviye Sürgün) just aired in Turkey and it got modest ratings. I’m interested to see if it will improve. Summer ratings are usually lower anyway. I watched the preview. I won’t watch the Turkish episodes. We know a couple of the actors already: Volkan from Infiel and Bulent from Amor Valiente. Susanlynn—the actor who played Kahraman in Embajador is in this, too.

juego

Thanks very much, novelera, for another terrific recap, including some on-target commentary about Pascual and Renata.

Wow, Adriana has certainly found herself in the lion's den. She keeps coming close to giving herself away, but so far she's managed not to be caught. Angelo almost catches her when she tells him the baby died, a miscarriage. He is surprised that she's so cold about it, whereas in the past she was delighted to be pregnant with his child. He tells her that the reason he called the police is that he knew William was dangerous and was afraid that he may have harmed her and/or the baby. Adriana tells him, "Of course William didn't know about the baby," whereupon Angelo replies, "You told me that he did." Oops, oops, oops.

When Camila says that if Pascual murdered Adriana, she (Camila) won't be able to look Césarin the eye, all I could think of was that that's exactly what Renata wants--to find something that will break the relationship between Cami and César. I wonder whether Renata will think of this.

Where did the amusement park ticket come from? Didn't Eva find one in Pascual's wastebasket? Is this the same ticket or a second one?

Brava Ines!! She's one smart cookie, making it seem as if they already know that Valeria's child wound up in the orphanage, leading Father Alberto to inadvertently confirm this.

I was struck by what seemed to me a visual resemblance between Detective Fernandez in Juego and Oleg Yasikov in LRDS. However, I checked the cast listings for Juego de Mentiras and La Reina del Sur 1 and 2/3, and no, it's not the same actor.

I found it interesting that Mariana's children are named Mary and Joseph.

So it looks as if Chuy has convinced FJ to come with him without asking. Since Chuy wants to make it seem that FJ has killed Alejandra, FJ needs to be there. Still, lots could go wrong with this plot. Here's hoping!

juego

Deb, thanks for mentioning FJ saying he threw his keys to The Zoo away. And good point about its being odd Mariana was at the amusement park without any I.D. Since we saw Adriana there, but definitely not in the bunny suit, I wonder if we'll see a flashback where Adriana asked her to come there, maybe to hit her up for money.

Juanita, thanks for mentioning the part about Angelo saying William knew about the pregnancy. Wonder if the writers made a mistake. If she were pregnant, and assuming William thought it was his, he wouldn't want her to still be taking medication, something he insisted on at dinner.

It's possible Chuy could have switched persons to blame for Ale's death. He definitely wanted to incriminate Pascual, so FJ would be a second choice if he thinks Pascual can't be found.

Juanita, since we're pretty sure Chuy was inside the bunny suit, he would have had an amusement park ticket to plant in Pascual's armoire. Pretty sure Eva hung onto hers for blackmail. It would have been in her apartment with the cats.

secrets

Thanks so much, dondi, for another terrific recap. Amen on Ilgaz being suspicious of everything and everyone. Guess that's why he's a prosecutor.

I had some sympathy for Osman last night. Just like her mother Aylin can't mourn in a healthy way and console herself with the family she has left. I guess the death of Deniz is meant to let us know why Aylin has been such a sad sack from the beginning.

Well, if Pars plan is to get close to Suhal to ruin part of Engin's alibi, he needs to work faster. Engin is supposed to be getting out soon. This 24-hour release plot point annoys me.

Thanks, Lucio, for seeing that someone opened the trunk. I could not tell if the brief view of a head we saw was Subject X opening the trunk or Zafer's head as he emerged having opened the trunk. When the trunk first was shown empty, I googled it and found out that cars since 2002 are required to have some method of opening the trunk from inside it.

My fave so far is Eren. He's the only character who shows any joy! He's a real cutie and definitely wants to help IlCey keep Engin in the slammer.

I also could do without Metin's sister's nasty looks and cool behavior toward Ceylin. Why can't she just respect her nephew's decision to break off the engagement? And I sure hope they'll let us know why he did so before too much longer.

juego

Yes, novelera, I agree that Chuy originally wanted FJ to be blamed for Pascual's death. IIRC, a couple of episodes ago, Chuy was just about to put that scenario in motion when Ale arrived and ruined his plan. And so, in a slightly later episode, after Chuy has Ale tied up, he tells her that he was originally going to get FJ blamed for Pascual's death, but now he'll have to change his plan and have FJ blamed for her death.

juego

I'll try to put something up tonight.

#64 "El duelo"

Cami has spilled her suspicions about her dad but Cesar tells her to let the police handle it.

Pascual is in Miami, he talks investments with mr. Mariana and meets the wife, Mariana puts up a good front but is off taking Mary to dance class, Pascual catches the name.

Tomas camps out at home till Renata spills on Val's son, she does admit to know all and says he is in a good home, no need to worry, but Tomas wants to speak with him.

Ines' meet with sister Susana hits a wall, Susana will not move ahead with the adoption until Tomas is totally on board, also she will need to meet the families of both Tomas and Ines (makes me wonder about Ines' family)

FJ and Chuy find Ale dead, FJ has found Pascual's credit card near Ale's body, Chuy is in tears (he and Adriana learned their lessons well at the orphanage school of life). Fj calls all spreading the word.

Cami heads home to support her family, Elvira urges Cesar to go and support Cami, but he won't go there, Linda and Fernandez stop by to talk shop, Fernandez agrees with making GumChew accountable for the passport showing up with the backpack, they also have some confidential videos to show Cesar, security footage of the Zoo, Eva arriving and Pascual driving away in her car. They want Cesar to give them inside info of the zoo, Cesar can't help but maybe Cami can.

Mariana drops off Mary with loud music playing and full on Adriana schooling for Mary to loosen up, and there is Pascual.

Pascual says he was a fool (yup) that's why you will always be alone, Adriana tells him, but now he is on the run from the cops, he pleads for help from the disappearing expert, she could care less, he gives her a please choke hold.

Linda/Fernandez think the killer may be in the zoo, Cesar points to Renata, she might go there to protect her family.

Adriana reflects on Pascual, he never can do anything right, the son was a much more decent catch.

FJ works his dad theories on Cami, shows her the credit card, (what? so how do the police know about it?) and tells her with out a doubt Pascual IS the killer. (I'm trying to remember is he has ever been right)

Cami and Cesar talk, they agree if he can find Cara it will clear her dad.

Renata and Pascual talk, she spills on Ale, it upsets him they are laying this on him, I'm being framed, it must be someone in the house.

Ines shows up at the zoo, tells Cami they discovered Val's son was not dead but dropped off at the orphanage, Chuy overhears.

Cesar goes to the orphanage and finds the old nun (as per Cami's suggestion) and says he is Cara, can you remember my name, but sister S shows up with some info he asked for, and breaks up the party. He did find out Adriana, Mariana's twin, had been there, hiding from something.

Ray is broken up, heads to the morgue. (stay there Ray)

Mariana heads into work and is met with mr. Tanaka who's investment lost 5 million, a secretary that keeps pushing her meds, and 14 other angry investors, apparently business did not go well while she was away.

Elvira has come by to water the plants, what?

Mariana tells the hubby she is ready to quit and spend time with the kids, he throws out the diary she has been writing to Noelia, who are you?

Chuy rakes over Olga to tell him who Val's son is, he knows all the children he grew up with, but Olga is just being Olga and spills nothing.

with a knife to her throat, Mother superior is asked the same question, remember me, says a psycho looking Chuy.

secrets

Thanks for commenting, novelera.

ITA about Eren. “He's the only character who shows any joy!” We need a break from all the doom and gloom. I hope we learn a little more about him and I hope they don’t change him for the worse.

Everyone feels the pressure of keeping Engin in jail. Even Yekta.

I wonder if Turkey has that car trunk requirement.

Yes, I’m also curious about the Ilgaz – Neva break up. I’m also dying to know Pars’ secret.

I will put up some sort of recap later today.

secrets #16 part 1

Time is running out and IlCey decide to retrace Engin’s steps once again.

Metin goes to his boss to retract his retirement papers, but the boss already tore them up.
Gul and Aylin prepare to go to the DA to ask what is going on with Inci’s case. Before they leave, there’s a call on Zafer’s phone. A man says, Zafer has something of mine. He didn’t bring it to me. Gul is short with him. The man says tell him to bring my car. Gul doesn’t understand. She tells the man Zafer is no longer here, he left us. She hangs up. [do I remember correctly, Zafer borrowed a car?]

Suhal meets with Pars. He hands her a menu that contains receipts. I didn’t quite understand this but somehow she used patients’ records to obtain drugs and sell them. I guess Pars will leverage this for info.

Cuneyt tells Yekta that Lacin spent the night at the police station. Yekta says he waited all night for Lacin to come home but she never showed. [liar, liar] She chose to stay with her son, he says, shaking his head. [what a bastard.] Cuneyt asks what’s next. Yekta answers that Engin is on his own, let’s wait and see what happens.

Pars takes Suhal to his office to get her statement. Gul and Aylin are waiting for him in the hallway. They ask if it is true that Engin killed Inci. Pars can’t discuss details but he does make it clear that Cinar is innocent and Engin is now the prime suspect.

The ladies are shocked. Aylin has a meltdown in the hallway. She is ready to kill Engin herself. And they realize they made a big mistake with Ceylin. Gul wants to find Ceylin, ask forgiveness, and bring her back home. [I hope Ceylin stays with Ilgaz] Gul also wants to apologize to Cinar. Gul says she prayed each night for him to die.

IlCey end up at the dumpster. This is difficult for Ceylin. Ilgaz remembers a man looking out his window when they found Inci. He calls Eren for info he has on the witnesses. Ilgaz tells Ceylin about the man in the window. I was not clear on this. Either he was interviewed and said he saw nothing, or he wasn’t home when they went to interview him. IlCey go to his apartment. There’s no answer.

IlCey get ready to move on, but Ilgaz looks up and notices the curtains move in the window. He calls Eren again. They decide to wait there.

Yekta speaks with Lacin at the station. He enjoys taunting her. Your son will be arrested today, he tells her. You’ll see him sent to prison. Enjoy him while you can. You will suffer knowing that this was my plan.

Gul tells Aylin to go home. She’s going to visit with Iclal.

Aylin decides to go her house first. Outside the door, she overhears an argument between Zumrut and Osman. Zumrut regrets getting involved with him and says she never wants to see him again. Aylin enters after Zumrut leaves. She tells Osman, the place is a mess. Let’s clean it up. I guess that means they will reconcile.

The man from the window, Haydar, leaves his apartment and Ilgaz stops him. Ilgaz identifies himself and starts, you saw something that day and hid. We knocked on your door and you didn’t open. Just tell us if you saw anything. Ceylin tells Haydar she’s the sister of the girl who died. The murderer will be released if you don’t help.

secrets #16 part 2

Haydar refuses to get involved. Evil is born out of goodness, he says. Ilgaz explains Haydar’s situation to Ceylin. He tried to help a woman that caused the death of someone. Haydar says he did a good deed but he ended up behind bars for 10 years. A woman was attacked, he hit the attacker with a stone and he died. He didn’t intend to kill the man. No one tried to help me. Our couple urge the man to help. Tell us if you saw anything. Haydar answers, I didn’t see it… I recorded it. [wow, did I see a smile on Ilgaz’s face?]

Ilgaz tells Haydar that he will handle this. No one will bother him. Haydar says he deleted the video and he walks back into the building.

Gul is asks Iclal for info on Cinar and his family.

Cinar meets with Serdar and that girl who likes him but whose name I can’t remember. [Serdar is an a-hole. Why does Cinar hang with him?]

Ceylin is upset. She wants Ilgaz to pressure Haydar into cooperation. Take him to the station! Take him into custody! Ilgaz asks her to understand. The guy was a victim of mistreatment and injustice. He won’t cooperate if he’s pushed. If he didn’t delete the video, he will now. Ceylin says she’s not moving until she gets the evidence.

Pars is getting pressure to release Engin. He refuses to do it a minute sooner than he must. Eren updates Ilgaz. Time is running out.

Ilgaz bangs on Haydar’s door. He makes a plea (with flashbacks). That girl sitting by the dumpster (Ceylin) had to see her sister’s body in the morgue. She thought she knew her sister, but she didn’t. They blamed an innocent man for the crime. She was his attorney, she believed he was innocent. All so she could find the real killer. Think about it. Her family kicked her out of the house for this. But she didn’t give up. The murderer turned out to be her closest friend. If you don’t help right now, the murderer will go free and this will be an injustice. Don’t crush her hopes.

Ilgaz gets the recording from Haydar and they speed off.

Merdan shows up as Defne gets out of school. He wonders why no one has come to pick her up. She says sometimes her aunt comes but they live close. Merdan wants to accompany her home. My dad will get mad, she says, I don’t know you very well.

Merdan answers, that’s right, you mustn’t talk to people you don’t know well. Maybe we can walk and I can introduce myself. Only if you do a magic trick, Defne replies. They walk off, hand in hand.

Yekta calls Pars. Do I come to testify again or will you do nothing? The clock is ticking. Pars responds, I’ll call you back.

Gul is in front of the Kayas’ house as Cinar gets dropped off. The girl recognizes Gul. She and Serdar watch from the car. Cinar asks Gul if she’s looking for someone. She asks if he’s Cinar and tells him, I’m Inci’s mother. I cursed you so much. I blamed you. When you were arrested, I wished horrible things. But you were innocent. You were a caring soul who grew up without a mother. She reaches out to touch his face. You were innocent.

Cinar is stunned. Gul continues, forgive me for my bad thoughts. I committed a great sin. I’m completely ashamed. Forgive me. Zafer didn’t come with me but I’ll bring him. [uh, oh] He will apologize to you, too. Cinar has a flashback to that night with Zafer. The poor kid looks miserable. He walks away without a word and gets back in Serdar’s car. Drive, he says.

Eren tells Pars that time is up. Eren gets Engin from his cell. You’re free for now, he warns the killer. Engin is so smug as he leaves.

secrets #16 part 3

Ilgaz calls Eren and gets the bad news about Engin. [Ha, ha law abiding Ilgaz needs to break the speed limit to get to the station before Engin gets away.]

Metin shows up at a crime scene. A man’s body is pulled from a marshy area in the woods. Turns out it’s a male approximately 25 years old. Hard to tell if Metin is relieved or scared. Makbule calls him with an urgent message: come home quickly! She hangs up.

Engin and Lacin walk out of the station, smiling and arm in arm. The smiles fade as they spot IlCey pull up. Ilgaz jumps out of the car and approaches Engin—you have to go back. Engin replies that time ran out. Ilgaz grabs his arm and says, a murderer is never free, move. Everyone heads back into the station.

Ilgaz announces, we have a recording of the moment you (Engin) threw the bag into the dumpster. Engin is shocked. He claims, that wasn’t me, it was my dad. See for yourself, Ilgaz replies and gives Engin a shove. Engin is taken away. Pars has a sigh of relief.

Our team views the recording. Pars tells Ilgaz [maybe a bit grudgingly], well, prosecutor, it was a pleasure working with you. He looks at Ceylin and says, we were a powerful team. IlCey look satisfied. Eren is really ticked that they didn’t get this from the witness when they first went to the scene. He says so much pain and hard work. People were suffering!
Pars calms him down and tells him they must get Engin to court asap.

Pars calls Yekta to give him the good news.

Metin arrives home and immediately thinks there is a problem with Cinar. It’s not. An upset Makbule motions to Defne’s room. Defne greets him, look Dad, Grandpa is here. Come say hello. Big smile from Merdan. Metin is stunned and horrified.

IlCey meet Pars at the courthouse. The judge will see them immediately. Pars introduces the evidence—the video of Engin dumping Inci’s body. We request you arrest him on these charges and for altering the records of this case.

A tearful Engin is led away. Eren takes great pleasure in telling him this is the end of the road.

Yekta gives a quick nod to Pars on his way out. A relieved Pars smiles at Ceylin and Ilgaz and tells them, good job, I enjoyed working with you. He leaves.

Ilgaz tells Ceylin, we did it. It’s over. She smiles, nods and gives him a hug which he returns for more than just a second. As they walk out he suggests, let’s have something to eat and celebrate until the sun rises. We deserve that, don’t you think? Ceylin answers, yes, why not… maybe one day. Ilgaz is puzzled by this response.

Ceylin tells him, it was a great journey. What are you saying, Ilgaz asks? It’s simple, Ceylin replies, we did what we had to do and we go on. That’s all, nothing more. Thanks so much. She pats him on the arm and smiles—so then, see you later. From now on, our paths will cross in the halls on different cases. Thanks for everything. Kendine iyi bak, sayın savcım—take care my dear [respectful, not romantic] prosecutor. [did she forget they are legally married?]

Ilgaz is the picture of Webster’s definition of disappointment: defeated in expectation or hope. Ceylin turns away and her face crumples as if she will burst into tears any second. Ilgaz flashes back to when Ceylin finally cried in front of him. What are you running from, he had asked her. From myself, she replied. Ceylin flashes back to that almost kiss outside the bathroom. He watches her walk. [Why are you standing there, Ilgaz?! Go after her!]

And we are out.

Secrets

Thank you, dondi356.

"Cinar meets with Serdar and that girl who likes him but whose name I can’t remember. [Serdar is an a-hole. Why does Cinar hang with him?]" Right?! That guy threw Cinar under the bus with Yekta's help. The girl, Merve, was Inci's best friend. They may all be involved in dealing drugs.

"He watches her walk. [Why are you standing there, Ilgaz?! Go after her!]" That would be impulsive - not like him, more like Ceylin. Well, I see it as an opportunity to miss each other. And pick up later with the new energy.

secrets

Thanks a million, dondi, for the fine recap. I really appreciate your including all the names.

Yes, they showed Zafer selling some of Gul's jewelry, getting a wad of bills, and IIRC paying some guy to presumably rent the car.

Like Lucio I'm not happy with Cinar forgiving Serdar. He was on the right path, having only spent an hour with them. But then Gul showed up. Frankly I'm not liking Cinar's guilt as a plot point. Of course the correct thing to do would have been for his father to tell the whole story. Metin has enough clout that Cinar wouldn't have been railroaded for murder like Heydar was. It looked pretty clear to me that Zafer planned to torture Cinar into admitting he'd killed Inci. I'll be upset if they show him falling back into dealing drugs.

Looks like the game is over for Engin. His only hope for skating on the murder was Yekta, and that bridge was burned.

It's harder to find cast names on the internet with dizis, especially since they show the names of the dizis in Turkish and Telemundo calls them something in Spanish. But I eventually figured out where I recognized Lacin from. She was the mother of the young thug in Infiel. She reformed and wanted to be his mother. He rejected her for the last third of the novela, but eventually accepted her.

Does Pars odd dead arm have something to do with that night with Yekta, the one we're all so curious about?

I will say I like the way both sides of a character are shown. I was furious with Pars early on, but he did want to do his job and really cared about nailing Engin for the crime.

Thanks, deb. I really love your snark. Tell me how you really feel about Rai! I feel for the actor who has to portray such a wooden jerk.

I was expecting Adriana to keep up the game of being Mariana with Pascual. But she did not do so. This plot line is kind of ridiculous. I am assuming Pascual went to the bank for the $5 million before departing for Miami. He seemed to be putting on a front of investing. But then he seemed to want Adriana to help him hide. It's kind of muddled writing.

So...I am getting the impression that Mariana Stanford was the brains behind all the luxury we've been shown. The business she owns was falling apart in her absence. Nasty William may just be a leech she made the mistake of marrying. That slap he gave her when she arrived was probably not the first one poor Mariana suffered.

I was unsure about what happened after Adriana drugged William. They showed him about to get busy with her. Then she said something about Mariana's life that gave me the impression he may have "performed" in an unsatisfactory manner. He either passed right out or...

Elvira has been shown to be an affectionate mother but SO clueless. She put up with Barros bullying enough to make me scream at my TV. And now she can't get it why César doesn't want to be within 10 miles of Renata.

Chuy is definitely getting the idea that he may be a Del Rio. The writers have him eavesdropping in a very inconvenient manner. I keep expecting him to somehow overhear about Mariana Stanford being alive and well in Miami

MANY THANKS, deb, for another extraordinary recap--informative, concise, and delightful! I especially enjoyed "he gives her a please choke hold"!

I'm impressed with how calm and reasonable César is in his advice to Camila. When she is pretty much convinced and very upset that her father is a murderer, César observes, "In prison, I learned that framing someone is easier than proving innocence."

So did Ines forge Tomás's signature on the adoption application? Not a clever move. What is clever is the way the two of them are working together to get evidence about what happened to Valeria's baby. Perhaps they should open a detective agency. Tomás even gets his mother to admit that Valeria's baby didn't die at birth, Renata brought him to an orphanage. She claims she lied to help the baby. Thanks to her, he has a family now. Tomás points out that "we are his family, he shares our blood. He's a Del Rio." Tomás promises Renata that he won't tell Valeria, but he wants to find his cousin. "Where is he?" Renata doesn't answer.

The supposedly devastated Chuy tells Camila, "Ale and I were going to live by the beach. I wanted to marry her, but I didn't even have chance to propose." I wonder whether his mentioning living by the beach (did he also say "the beach house?) will eventually come back to do him in.

I enjoyed the scene of the New Mariana telling her daughter how everything is now going to change. Work for what you want? Not any more. Social media accounts? Sure, why not have two or three. Wheeee!

Rai mentions that someone had been torturing Ale, there were marks on her wrists. How did he know this, if he hasn't yet seen the body? (I'm assuming that he will get to see her only when he identifies the body. I also enjoyed your comment to Rai when he goes to the morgue: "Stay there, Rai!")

The plot is really heating up:

César gets a vital piece of information when he goes to the orphanage. He finds the half-blind old nun. She can't remember Cara Sucia's name, but she remembers that he was always defending his friend, Adriana. She also mentions "Mariana, the identical twin sister of Adriana."

I wonder who is going to find out first that Chuy is Valeria's son. Chuy pumps Olga for the identify of Valeria's son, to no avail. Tomás is getting close.

And it looks as if Adriana may be in over her head, now that William has found her notebook with the letters she has been writing to Noelia. (Will Pascual save her?)

Again, many many thanks, deb!

Thank you, Lucio and novelera.

Lucio, thanks for naming Inci’s friend, Merve.

"[Why are you standing there, Ilgaz?! Go after her!]" That would be impulsive – not like him..” yes, that’s why I wanted to encourage him. lol “...pick up later with the new energy.” I have a feeling these two are going to be like ateş ve barut—fire and gunpowder. Hot.

novelera, I really hope Cinar stays on the straight path. And thanks for mentioning Lacin was also in Infiel. I thought she looked familiar. I can help with the Turkish dizi names. In case anyone wants to know, Secretos original name is Yargı (Judgment).

“I will say I like the way both sides of a character are shown.” I think the Turks do this well, the writers and the actors. The actor who plays Pars is very good. I’ve seen him in other dizis.

juego

novelera- just kidding about Raimundo, (I saw the actor Ezequiel Montalt in an earlier novela where he played a saxophone, he was pretty cool).

Juanita- I too loved the scene where the new Mariana was talking to her daughter. It looked to me like Adriana was up to the challenge of her new life, and even starting to have fun, I'll be sorry to see it come crashing down on her before she straightens out William, the LAPD only have to make a call to the local police to have her checked out. Pascual may have picked a bad place to be hiding.

I'll put up something brief tonight. Have Spanish Zoom tonight for two hours so less time to watch anything.

#65 The Mother Superior tries to talk Chuy down. She still keeps her lip zipped. But when Sr. Susana comes in and Chuy puts a knife to her throat, she sees in his eyes that he’ll kill her. She gives him his adoption file. The first page is a photo of Olga.

Inés and Tomás talk. She tells him about adopting Miguelito. He doesn’t take it well, saying he wants a biological child after he’s finally able to do the deed. Inés’ face falls. She leaves, saying she wants to be alone at her place.

I love Adriana in this whole episode! She tells William about the business falling to pieces while she was gone. She explains the notebook with letters to Noelia as her having gotten her sister’s belongings. [So William knew she had a twin?]

César shows up at The Zoo to support Cami. If looks could kill, the one from Renata would finish off the novela. Renata and César spar when Cami excuses herself a minute. He tells her she didn’t turn a hair leaving a child without a father. She comes up with some lame crap about Cami having been all over the world.

FJ takes off, fed up with pretending to be a grieving spouse.

Chuy rants. I’m getting tired of Psycho Chuy. He tells M.S. he could have been rich all along.

Pascual keeps in touch with Renata by phone. There’s a knock at the door. It’s Adriana.

Linda and Fernández arrive at The Zoo asking to see the security cameras. They say that Eva arrived at this house, but Pascual drove off in her car.

Adriana gripes to Pascual about William and that Mariana was addicted to pills. She tells him she’s over him. People can only betray her once. He says something about being the one who did something to convince the police that the dead woman was Adriana. She tells him that, if he needs to disappear, he has to do one thing first. She puts his phone in the ice bucket.

Sign. Noelia found the missing poster and wants to meet her tía.

Cami wants the security video and is talking with Chuy. He more or less admits things were deleted.

Excellent scene with Adriana where she puts William DOWN! She pulls a knife when he’s wanting his derechos. She tells him she’s fed up with him. He says that the money is in his name, and he’d get custody of the children if they split. She tells him she was in the office and found some interesting things to do with tax evasion. She tells him to go to another bedroom or she’ll call the cops. She’ll accuse him of abuse and of being a tax fraud. He goes out with his tail between his legs.

Chuy confronts Olga. Was it Renata who asked that she adopt him?

"JUEGO" EPISODE #65:

Novelera: Did they show Ale's funeral yet ? I mean she was a sitting United States Senator who was killed by Crazy Chuy.

My personal thoughts: She had it coming!

thanks so much for the recap novelera! they sure do sprinkle in the details and you are so good at sorting them out.

so Chuy tells the nuns to tell no one he was there or he'll come back and kill them, and maybe some kids.

I guess Linda and Fernandez are joined at the hip, I couldn't believe they are giving Renata a couple of days to come up (or alter) with the security tapes.

so Adriana shows up at Pascual's for a drink and to vent because (she believes) he is the only one that knows she is Adriana. Interesting that Pascual took charge of making sure Mariana's body was identified as Adriana which involved altering the fingerprints, so cold it looks like Adriana set up her sister.

loved it when Adriana told William she was a cooler version of Mariana.

This novela keeps me guessing, although we are getting some revelations now. I got to thinking just now about Adriana and Mariana. Do we know their parentage? Renata seemed to know that Adriana had a twin.

secrets #17 part 1

Episode quote: "It is not fire that burns a person, but their own negligence. They see the faults in everyone but look at themselves through tinted glasses." –Mevlânâ Celâleddîn-i (Rûmî)

Engin is about to get a haircut and he has flashbacks of his accusers calling him out on his crime: his father (abuser and accuser), Ceylin, Ilgaz, Pars, Eren, Osman. He tells the barber to cut it short, leave no curls.

Ceylin has spent an uncomfortable night at her office. In a fit of anger, she smashed Engin’s stuff, bagged it up and threw it out on the curb.

Ilgaz gets ready for work. He thinks back to the almost kiss. He looks at the blanket and pillow on the sofa.

Here is the real song that plays during this scene:

Song: Sar Bu Şehri/Wrap This City
YouTube with translation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHsRfH4hdr8

Engin paces in his cell. A cellmate watches TV. The channel is changed and it’s Yekta speaking to the press. A subdued Lacin is by his side. Engin sits to watch. We raised our son in a loving home and protected him, Yekta states, but he took a life. He killed a young woman and showed no mercy. Is our son a monster? We never thought this could happen. I’m sorry as a parent and a lawyer. Blah, blah, blah…. He forces Lacin to hold his hand as they walk away.

Engin becomes enraged and knocks a glass of tea off the table. He takes a folded paper (an origami) out of his pocket. Written on it are the names of everyone who has become his enemy. [When I was a kid, we used to make these folded “fortune tellers”!] Engin adds his mother’s name to the paper.

Yekta tells Lacin, don’t be sad. Don’t ruin your life. You called our son a murderer, she replies, you expect me to smile? Did I lie, Yekta asks. He’s a murderer and his father won’t save him. And his mother won’t help and support him. This is what happens to those who betray me.

Ceylin is at Inci’s grave. She cries and tells her the good news. Your killer was jailed. Engin was found guilty [that was quick]. He will pay for what he did to you. She places flowers on the grave. She takes off Inci’s earring, takes the one held for evidence out of a bag and buries them in the dirt. She tells her sister, you’ll always be my favorite. I’ll always be strong for you. I love you very much.

Ceylin walks past a group of police officers who are investigating an abandoned vehicle at the cemetery. Zafer’s car. Zafer’s ID is found. She has no idea.

Eren tells Ilgaz he’s meeting with the Attorney General. We’re looking for whoever got rid of the evidence. Nothing has been found so far. Ilgaz asks if Yekta has been questioned. That’s the problem, Eren replies. Ilgaz says, do you understand why I doubt Pars and why I won’t work with him? Eren understands.

Ilgaz is sure there’s something between Pars and Yekta. He says they have to find out. Maybe they were together. Eren finds it hard to believe that Pars and Yekta were together. Ilgaz would like to go over Yekta and Pars’ calls on that night. Eren asks if he should do that. I didn’t say that, Ilgaz responds.

Eren asks, what did the lawyer say? Ilgaz replies, who? Eren means Ceylin. Ilgaz hasn’t heard from her. Eren is surprised. You’re not together? She’s not staying with you? I stayed away because I thought you’d be celebrating together, he tells Ilgaz. What’s there to celebrate, Ilgaz asks, what do I have to do with her? He answers his own question---nothing. It’s over. Nothing ties us together. She’s the lawyer and I’m the prosecutor. We’re back where we started. [Note the look on Eren’s face. He doesn’t believe it.]

secrets #17 part 2

Pars and Neva drive to work. She asks him what’s wrong. You’ve been acting strange lately, admit it. You’re angry, tense and don’t sleep. You barely speak to me. Pars denies there’s anything wrong. He’s not hiding anything from her.

Makbule takes Defne to school. They are ignoring Metin. Defne finally tells him, I’m mad at you. You kicked Grandpa out of the house.

Metin gets in his car. Merdan also gets in. Metin is not in the mood for this.

Merdan says, you kicked me out of the house yesterday… in front of my daughter and granddaughter. I couldn’t say anything. You didn’t even ask how I was doing. But I’m your father and I won’t embarrass you. That’s why I didn’t mention this. Merdan shows Metin a plastic bag with a sock in it. A bloody sock. The one that Defne took out of the trash to hide her snack and then tossed on the floor.

Merdan says the sock has blood from two different people. [how does he know that?] Do a good job. You don’t want to be found out. A dog who can’t bark, leaves its home vulnerable to attack. And if you want to thank me, invite me for dinner at the house. Tell Makbule to make the casserole her mother taught her. Merdan leaves the sock with Metin.

The Attorney General returns to his job and asks IlCey to join him in his office. Ilgaz tells Ceylin he’s going to ask about our marriage. The questions start. How’s the bride, Ilgaz? What did you have for breakfast? She says eggs, he says toast. Ceylin clarifies, we like different things. The boss asks, how’s the marriage going? No immediate answer.

The AG apologizes for getting personal, but he was surprised. He says to Ilgaz, you just ended your engagement. This was interesting. Ceylin agrees. Ilgaz says it happened quickly. The AG asks, did it have to [happen quickly]? The AG doesn’t understand. IlCey get uncomfortable. Is something bothering you, the AG asks. We’re fine, Ilgaz replies, we never argue. Ceylin is great at avoiding arguments and confrontations. Ceylin excuses herself. She has a new client coming.

IlCey have a hallway convo. He’s ticked. What are you doing, he asks? He’s the AG. Yes, she replies, he’s your boss. Why are you bothering me? Say whatever you have to say. Ilgaz responds, what I had to say, I buried after yesterday’s hearing. I have nothing to say.

The AG comes to Pars’ office. He asks for Pars’ help. I’m wondering about Ilgaz’s marriage. What are your observations? What do you know? It’s a disappointment to see him try to recuse himself from testifying. He leaves and Ceylin enters Pars’ office. Can we talk?

Ceylin says, we seem to work well together. You agree? It seems so, Pars replies. I’d like to shadow you during Engin’s trial and while you find out if Yekta destroyed or modified or hid evidence. Pars tells her he got testimony from nurse Suhal at the hospital where Engin’s migraine was treated. Suhal claims that Engin came alone and paid her to lie. She doesn’t know Yekta or anyone else.

Parla heads off to school. She forgets her bag and Aylin brings it out to her. Osman appears from around the corner. Parla turns away from him. Aylin wants Parla to make an effort with her dad. Osman explains, your mother and I spoke. This will stay between us.

Parla can’t believe it. He cheated, mom! Parla is not interested in talking it out. Zumrut spies from the window. Parla shouts, my father cheated on my mother! Aylin rushes to put her hand over Parla’s mouth and tells her daughter, I forgave him. Parla replies, you forgave your husband, but I haven’t forgiven my father. If you love him so much go back to him and I’ll stay with Grandma. She walks.

secrets #17 part 3

Pars, Ceylin and Eren listen to Yekta’s speech. Ceylin is angry. Eren says the investigation is at a dead end. Lacin said she didn’t know Yekta’s whereabouts. She’s probably lying. Pars asks, what are you getting at, Eren? Eren thinks they should take Yekta’s statement.

Pars bristles, since when do you get to decide, officer?! I was too candid with you and now you give instructions and opinions. That’s not what I meant, Eren interjects. Pars continues, if I thought it was relevant, I’d question him myself. Eren takes his leave. Ceylin asks Pars to let her know any updates.

Eren and Ceylin talk about Pars. He got very nervous when you suggested Yekta be questioned, she says. Eren mentions Ilgaz was suspicious, too. He said we’d understand if we reviewed the paperwork. Ay, Eren, Ceylin says with frustration. It was just a suggestion of his [Ilgaz], he replies. Ceylin points out this is classic Ilgaz. Go over the paperwork. Eren smiles and says he will.

Cinar talks to Serdar about Engin. Cinar wants to see Engin. I went through a lot because of that bastard, he says. I want to spit in his face! I want to know, why Inci. Don’t I have a right? Serdar gets it but Cinar is not a relative and won’t be allowed to see him. If you are a real friend, Cinar says, tell the boss to figure it out.

Ilgaz is ready to take the statement of the hospital director. Guess who’s his lawyer… Ceylin. Ilgaz remembers that Ceylin looked through the file on his desk. Ilgaz asks Ceylin to step out of the office. Are you crazy, he asks. You can’t represent people I’m investigating. I’m your husband. Do you want us to lose our jobs?

Relax husband, and Ceylin notes, Article 13 of the Attorney’s Code of Conduct. The Supreme Court also issued the DA’s ethics code. He’s pissed. If you know this, then why are you and your client here? She says she hasn’t filed the power yet. I’m here to show you the way. I won’t sign the statement as his lawyer. She adds that she’s now in charge of working with Pars.

A woman comes to see Engin in prison. She’s not happy to be there. She asks, why did you call me? I’m offended. When I last left home, I was full of hatred and I was crying. Engin replies, you insulted mom. The woman says, you’re older now. Don’t believe everything you’re told.

The woman asks, I offended her… and your father? Why was I sent away while your father stayed? [where was she sent?] My job, my friends, the city where I lived… I lost it all because of your father. Nothing changes for him. Engin says, I can answer why I called so this won’t take too long. I didn’t call you so you could ask me to answer for the past, Ms. Lawyer. I need your help.

The woman asks, what makes you think I’d help you? We haven’t seen each other in nine years. Engin sees she brought what he asked for. She keeps her hand on top of the papers. Let’s define what my help will entail, she asks, what’s in it for me? I want you to represent me and get me out of here, Engin answers. I can’t pay, I don’t have money, but you get the chance to get back at my father and my mother. He adds, and I’ll give you some loving, too. [!]

Ilgaz questions the hospital director. He seems very nervous. Ceylin keeps interrupting. Ilgaz does not appreciate it. He argues with Ceylan and says the interview is over. Whatever. The director signs the statement, Ceylin does not. They leave.

Pars checks in with Ridvan, who has been conducting research on Merdan. It’s been difficult. Ridvan couldn’t easily access files because they are very old. He has a 3-page summary that Pars asks him to print out and bring to him.

secrets #17 part 4

The woman asks Engin if he did the crime. Will my answer change your mind, he asks? The woman takes it to mean Engin is guilty. Then you will represent me, he says flatly. The woman has files she calls defense documents. [what does that mean?] She says no one has seen these and Engin can keep them if he wants. He looks very pleased to have these documents.

The woman asks, who are they? These are people who think I’m stupid, Engin replies, people who think I’m the only one who’s dirty. They are imbeciles. People who openly accuse others, but who hide when they are guilty.

The woman asks, now what? Engin says, now… facing yourself is a heavy burden. It’s like being naked. You try to hide your flaws from everyone but if someone knows about it, you’re not the only one. And if everyone knows, you are what you are. He tells the woman, if we are going down, we go down together. I eagerly await your visit tomorrow, dear lawyer. As he leaves, he puts his hand on her and she shifts away.

Yekta makes Lacin sign some sort of document. He tells her, we will both go our separate ways! Your son will rot in prison and you will be bound to a pitiful allowance. Yekta locks the document in a safe. Lacin says, I doubt you will take this revenge on your wife. Yekta smiles, that’s exactly what I’ll do.

Lacin asks, why don’t we get divorced? It’s pointless to stay together. Yekta places his hands on hers and sweetly says, impossible… we need to cling to each other. We are good parents. We’ll tend to our wounds and overcome the pain our son has caused. We, too, share the pain he feels. Lacin looks at him like he’s crazy. Yekta asks her, was that convincing, or what?

Lacin asks, why are you putting on a show? Yekta slams his glass on table and shouts--it’s for me! You are just Lacin… I am Yekta Tilmen! He pounds the table. I can’t clear my name if your dumb son tries to tarnish it. You’re condemning me to this life, Lacin complains. He replies, condemning you, Lacin? Allah aşkına! Isn’t this what you want? You like being submissive, a slave to others. Don’t talk too much. He leaves.

The hospital director worries, we failed. Ceylin says don’t think that. The DA got up on the wrong side of the bed. Someone annoyed him and he took it out on us. I’ll handle it. [lol] Ceylin tells the director not to mention this meeting to his managers. I’ll tell the woman about your offer and I’ll make sure you get the claim money back. The case will be closed quietly and your statement will be buried in the file. [I am not sure exactly what’s going on here, anyone explain?]

Ceylin waits in the hall outside Ilgaz’s office. He comes out, bringing the water bottle she left behind. He hands it to her and says, follow me. Why? He tells her, you don’t want to hear what I have to say here. Why not, she asks. Let’s go, he replies.

And we are out.

These recaps are wonderful! Thank you for the links to the original music! So beautiful, even though I don’t understand it, I still prefer it!

Another fantastic recap, dondi! Thanks so much. I have some thoughts.

I was surprised Ilgaz didn't smell the blanket Ceylin used. As we've seen, the dizis are big on smelling the loved one or clothing they've worn.

I still can't get over the dorm prison life portrayed in dizis. I suppose it's more humane than the solitary cells we have here. But it seems like it would be easier to have someone be a victim of an even worse criminal.

So it's gotta be something crooked that Yekta and Pars were meeting about. It can't be about Engin because it was the night it happened. Another instance of Pars trying to get something on Ilgaz?

The actor playing Merdan is so evil looking. I have nothing against mustaches, but his is just over the top. I suppose he just wants a family, but I cringed when I saw him with Metin's little daughter.

What? That chief prosecutor can ask personal questions about someone on the staff's married life? We know why he's doing it, but it seems outrageous.

Could the lawyer who's going to represent Engin be a half sister. In your recap, dondi, you mentioned that the woman said "your father" about Yekta. Could Yekta be Lacin's second husband?

I don't know for sure what the hospital case Ceylin is working on, but it sounded a bit like she was defending the hospital on a malpractice suit, since they mentioned telling "the woman" the offer.

Again, thanks so much for the complete recap of last night's episode and for the others as well!

Thank you, dondi356. And thank you for the original song link.

About the hospital case: a woman filed a complaint with the DA (Ilgaz) about medical malpractice / negligence. They treated her daughter poorly. The woman said if she didn't take her daughter out she would have died. The hospital tried to make her sign an "against advice" form but she refused. Ceylin says she will talk to the woman, let her know the offer, and get her to withdraw her complaint and the case will be closed. "Don't worry." [Something tells me he needs to worry.]

Thanks for the comments!

Babachita, I don’t know why Telemundo insists on replacing the scores and songs in their dizis. Maybe that saves them money. When Uni airs a dizi, they keep the original soundtrack, and it adds so much to the story. At least the translations seem ok so far and the edits aren’t bad.

novelera, lol, “I was surprised Ilgaz didn't smell the blanket Ceylin used.” I’m sure they will be sniffing each other soon.

The prisons are different than we see here, and it makes for some very interesting prison scenes.

ITA about the AG and his nosy questions. This will likely ensure that IlCey will stay married for a while and Ceylin might have to move back in with Ilgaz.

I’m at a loss about Engin’s new lawyer and her connection to the Tilmens. Engin was thrilled with the docs she brought. It must have dirt he can use against his enemies. We’re not getting rid of Engin so quickly.

Lucio, thanks for the explanation about the hospital case. It makes sense. I wasn’t sure if Ceylin was really on the side of the hospital. And did she think the woman is a scammer. Is she doing this to help Ilgaz or make him angry?

I'm really sorry, novelera, that I wasn't able to see last night's episode until now, and I didn't want to comment until I'd seen the episode. You did a great job of conveying everything important.

Like you, I was very happy with the way Adriana was able to deal with William. I had feared she might have been done for when he found the notebook with letters to Noelia.

Two things puzzled me about this episode (#65, I think). One is how surprised and upset Pascual is when Adriana ruins his cellphone by putting it in water. She explains what he should have known already--his cellphone can be used to track him. So if he wants to disappear, he has to get rid of the phone ASAP. How could he not have known that? He should have been relieved and thankful that Adriana zapped it!

I was even more surprised that Linda and Fernandez didn't insist on seeing the security camera footage immediately. I suppose it's at least a bit plausible that Pascual didn't know he could be tracked by his phone, but surely experienced police officers like Linda and Fernandez would know not to give people time to doctor the security camera footage. What's with these characters? Don't they watch telenovelas??
