Secrets

I saw your comments on the other page, novelera. Thanks.

Family matters play a big part in dizis, and I guess that reflects Turkish culture to an extent. They often show multiple generations living together or living in multiple family dwellings. I sort of understand this because I grew up in a multi-generational, multiple family house. We had several relatives living within blocks of us. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins. And this was not uncommon in my neighborhood and in my ethnic group. Times have changed, though.

Yes, Merdan did say “even if shot 3 times”. I think he was just looking for a reaction to confirm his suspicions. And he got Metin to mention the body. So now he’s looking for it. Very smart. He would have made a good detective or prosecutor…lol.

Pars doesn’t think he’s sick, so he drives. I don’t know what the driving laws are in Turkey. In the US, I think a person with epilepsy can drive if some period has passed since their last seizure. I don’t know how one would prove this.

“the other woman seems to be blonde” I’ve been watching a great dizi, now on summer break, that has a beautiful female lead with fair skin, green eyes, and light brown hair. The other woman is brunette.

Ilgaz said the breakup was due to “time and distance”. They were in different cities and both very busy people. Maybe n ot enough passion to keep the fire burning.

I’ll get a recap up some time tomorrow.

#37 – El Profesor aka The Chuy Show – Parte 1 de 2

We begin with a scene between the two despicables: Chuy (not just Dirty Face…dirty all the way down to his shoes) and Rotten Renata. Chuy snarls that she can’t throw him out like a dog. He reminds her of what he did for her: following Pascual, destroying Tomás’s embryos, helped bury Eva. She says she paid him and then he betrayed her with those security videos.

Pascual is behaving like a classic dog in the manger. He turned Adriana down and now is upset she’s meeting with FJ. She tells him she regrets choosing the wrong Del Rio.

Chuy hops into Renata’s bed, saying it’s a lot better than his cheap one. He wants the room. He calls her tía several times and tells her he’s Valeria’s son. It’s time for some adjustments. If she doesn’t cooperate, he’ll get a lawyer. She separated him from his real mother and sent him to a home for abandoned kids.

César tells Elvira about going to Miami to meet Mariana and find out Cara Sucia’s real name.

Renata, of course, lies to Chuy, telling him that Vanessa didn’t look for him. [Of course. Who looks for a baby one is told died stillborn?]

Tomás tells Inés he isn’t ready for such a commitment as adopting Miguelito. Inés tells him she’ll try to adopt alone.

More Psycho Chuy. He raves at RR that he wants a house by the sea and $1 million

FJ is in the hotel lobby when Adriana shows up, telling him her sister had the best man in the world. She explains her sister having let him go by the fact that “Adriana” didn’t get love like he did as a child. She plants a passionate kiss on him.

César explains to Noelia why he can’t take her to Miami. Yawn.

Tomás and Cami come to the dinner table and find Chuy sitting there. RR says something about his needing support after losing Alejandra. Tomás refuses to sit down with him and gives him a piece of his mind. Chuy pretends to be graceful and leaves the table.

César has come to say goodbye to Cami, on his way to the airport. This whole crap about she can’t stay with him because she believes Pascual killed Adriana is ridiculous. But she’s all over him while Chuy listens in to his telling Cami he’s going to find out more about Cara Sucia.

Olga and Renata talk. Viewerville finds out that Pascual IS Chuy’s father.

Adriana spends the night with FJ. [Can’t say I blame her.]

#37 – El Profesor aka The Chuy Show – Parte 2 de 2

Pfft! Pascual is waiting after Adriana says goodbye to FJ and castigates her. She tells him she can’t remember ever spending such a wonderful night. FJ is better than Pascual in bed and outside of it as well.

It’s time for Ale’s funeral. Cami is wearing some black dress with one bare shoulder and one bare arm? [¡Qué!] She notices that Chuy is wearing one of Pascual’s suits. RR says it’s an older one.

Ah, Yvonne. We haven’t missed her, but she shows up to get the scoop from Noelia about where César has gone. They look up Mariana’s website and her children.

César is interviewing with “Mariana’s” snooty assistant. He charms both the boy and the girl The assistant says something about wanting a native English speaker (to teach math?) César tells the Stanford children that he has a daughter named Noelia. Adriana overhears and slinks back out of sight.

William gripes about Mariana not spending the night in the house. She blows him off and laughs at her threat about calling the police. Then he takes some hair from her hairbrush. [Would the DNA show up differently for an identical twin?]

At her funeral, complete with a dress military guard and a flag over the coffin, Chuy remembers shooting Ale, and saying that he loved her.

The snotty assistant comes to tell César that someone from Switzerland has been hired as the teacher. And that Mariana can’t meet with him.

At the Zoo FJ notices that Chuy has on his father’s watch. Renata says something about Pascual having ruined her life and probably has another woman already.

Tomás babbles something about the funeral having taught him the value of life and proposes to Inés. He gives her something from a desk to put around her finger. He says they’ll marry quickly and adopt Miguelito. Of course she says yes.

Cami follows her mother into her bedroom and asks what secret Chuy is keeping for RR to treat him so well.

Mariana is about to get into her car, with the assistant trying to waylay her. But César calls her name.

And that’s where we stop. Do we suppose César will recognize her?

"JUEGO":

Novelera: Aren't we're in the home-stretch of the final episodes of the final weeks ?

I noticed you put in Episode 37.

Secrets #20 part 1

The quote for Turkish episode 11 is “"When a person can't face their own wrongdoings, they keep playing with other people's mistakes." –Oscar Wilde

Pars accuses Ilgaz of betraying his confidence and vows to get revenge. As soon as Pars leaves, lgaz immediately questions, what did you do, Ceylin?!

Only three people had that info, Ilgaz says, I told you not to do it! You kept doing things on your own! If I share information, don’t get me in trouble by spreading it. Ceylin puts up a lousy defense. I didn’t go with what I learned about you or your friend. I heard it from Cuneyt. This doesn’t make Ilgaz any happier. Ah, your old friend helped. [jealous, Ilgaz?] Ceylin declares the conversation is over. She adds, don’t say I’m running away.

The law professor is doing a book signing and gets a shock---Merdan shows up to the event.
Pars rips up the doctor’s card that Ilgaz gave him. Ridvan enters the office and says that woman is still waiting to see you.

Yekta and Lacin meet with Engin’s lawyer, Seda. They are shocked to hear she’s his lawyer. She drops the bomb that Engin gave her. Yekta never graduated from law school. His diploma is a fake. Yekta freezes. What a scandal, Seda says. Lacin had no idea. Seda tells her, your husband is a great imposter.

Ilgaz opens the package. It contains a flash drive. He calls Ceylin back to his office and plays it. It’s a recording of her telling Engin about the toothbrushes she took from the teacher. Ilgaz can’t believe Ceylin revealed all this to Engin. I trusted him at the time, Ceylin replies. And BTW, she’s sorry for things she said about Ilgaz. I didn’t know you back then, she tells him. Will you forgive me?

Ilgaz asks her, did you send this only to Engin? Yes. Ilgaz reasons that Engin is in prison without a phone, so who sent this? Ceylin has no idea but she doesn’t think it was Yekta. Ilgaz wants to visit Engin to ask. Ceylin tags along.

Cinar looks at the video on his “new” phone that shows him with Zafer on the bus. He rushes to Makbule and demands to know where she got the phone.

The woman, Feride, explains that her husband was one of several contractors named in a lawsuit. There was a trial and her husband was the only one sentenced. All the others were acquitted. Her husband ended up in prison. She came because she received a phone call telling her that Pars was the only one who could fix this.

Pars isn’t sure how he can help. The trial was in another jurisdiction. Feride hands him a file she was given and says, they told me you’d find the suspect after reviewing the case. Pars sees that Neva was the judge at the trial. At this moment, Neva comes into the office. Pars rudely tells her to leave. He tells Feride that he will look into the case and find out who called her and why.

Neva asks Ridvan what he knows about the woman in Pars’ office. He doesn’t know much, only that she insisted on seeing Pars. She asks Ridvan to get the woman’s name for her. Ridvan tries to get the name from Pars but Pars tells him to get lost.

Ceylin reminds Ilgaz that the recording is inadmissible. Ilgaz wonders what Engin is up to.

Ceylin tells Ilgaz she left a few things at his house. She asks, can you bring them to court? He says nothing. Then she offers to come pick them up, if it’s no trouble. Ilgaz says he will have Eren drop them off to her. Ilgaz suddenly stops the car. What do you want from me, he asks her with irritation, didn’t you say we’d see each other in the hallways? Didn’t you say goodbye to me? What is this? Are you trying to drive me crazy? Ceylin sighs, I just want my stuff back. Ilgaz starts driving again.

Pars calls the number that Feride gave him. It’s Seda’s number. She’s still at lunch with the Tilmens. She smiles but doesn’t take the call.

secrets #20 part 2

Seda gets to the point with Yekta and Lacin. You will meet with the press again but this time you will confess you are frauds. You have until 6p tomorrow. You will give a detailed account of how you practiced law with a fake degree. The sweetest part is you will have to go to court and fall in disgrace. She warns, if you don’t do it, Engin will. You won’t get away with it. She leaves.

Yekta turns to Lacin and blames her for not getting an abortion like he asked her to when she was pregnant! You gave birth to him and now he’s turned on us! He tells her, you will talk to that bastard of a son and convince him to keep his mouth shut.

Seda returns Pars’ call. He asks, why did you give my number to this woman? Seda doesn’t want to talk over the phone. She asks him to meet her at her hotel and they can talk over coffee.

Ozlem shows up at the station for her daughter. Eren asks if he can speak with her later, without Tugce. He watches carefully as Ozlem hugs her daughter. Ozlem tells the girl, what am I going to do with you?

Eren asks the arresting officer for Tugce’s file.

IlCey arrive at the prison. Engin is not surprised that Ilgaz has come to visit. Ah, the first one, he says. He says to the guard, I’m not feeling well. Tell him to come back another time.

Ilgaz doesn’t accept this. He goes with the guard to Engin’s cell, grabs him off his bed and practically drags him to the visitation room. He throws Engin over a table. We got your message, Ilgaz says, but we didn’t get your point. Engin smirks and this further angers Ilgaz. My point was to bring you here, Engin replies. I knew the recording can’t be admitted as evidence. But I knew you and Ceylin would come running to me. And I didn’t come to you because I knew you wouldn’t be alone.

Ilgaz raises his hand to Engin to shut him up. Why are you so eager to see me alone, he asks. Your father, Engin replies. Six years ago he put Ceylin’s father behind bars. Engin can tell that Ilgaz already knows this. Ilgaz asks how Engin knows.

We see the flashback. Inci was brought to the police station. She had asked Engin to come help. By the time he arrived, she said that the situation was resolved. The police captain spoke to the store owner and he dropped the charges. Engin sees it was Metin. He asks Inci if she knew Metin from before. No, she replies. End.

Then we get another flashback. Inci comes to see Ceylin at the office but only Engin is there. She shares some good news. Remember that police chief, Metin? Somehow he’s obsessed with me. He offered me a scholarship and gave me cash. He said, let me know if you have any problems. Engin wonders why Metin would be so interested in Inci. End.
Another short flashback. Engin is at the police station. He sees Metin and Eren and writes their names in his notebook. End.

Engin tells Ilgaz that Metin’s interest in Inci caused this. He paid half her family’s rent to clean his name. Who else knows about this, Ilgaz asks. You mean Ceylin, Engin smirks. Ilgaz tosses Engin against the bars. No one else knows, Engin grunts, Ceylin has no clue. Ilgaz demands to know what Engin wants. He replies, it’s either your father or Ceylin. Either your dad confesses, or you will confess to Ceylin and acknowledge you hid this from her. Choose between your father and the woman you love.

Engin continues, you two are so predictable. You’ll lose her before you win her heart. That’s life. If you don’t deserve her, life will take her from you. Ilgaz tosses Engin around again. What are you going to gain by this, he asks.

secrets #20 part 3

There are no winners in this story, Engin answers. I’m despicable, I’m evil and a murderer. If you could, you’d drown me in a spoonful of water. You think you are good people… let’s see if that’s the case. Everyone will face their own secrets, their own demons. The curtain is about to be lifted. You have until 6p tomorrow. Choose between your dad and the woman you love. If you don’t, I’ll tell and you’ll lose both.

Ilgaz loses it. He throws Engin to the floor and shouts, I’ll shut you up even if I have to kill you! Sure, whatever, Engin replies as he gets up off the floor. He pulls a letter out of his pocket—give this to Ceylin. Her deadline is the same as yours. Engin leaves.

Aylin and Gul are at the police station filing a missing person report on Zafer. They tell the officer about the wallet and ID found in the abandoned car. Only Zafer didn’t own a car. Gul remembers a man called and asked about a car. Zafer must have borrowed it. The officer asks if Zafer often leaves like this. Gul says yes, he goes fishing, but he would tell us the name of the boat. The officer takes Zafer’s phone and says we’ll check it out.

Metin sees Aylin and Gul leaving the office. He asks the officer what the ladies wanted. Comes the reply, they say Zafer Erguvan is missing. Metin asks to see their statements.

Merdan has waited for the law professor to come outside. Sahver Hanım, it’s been a long time. Would you like some tea? She thinks Merdan has a lot of nerve coming there. You sentenced me to ten years, he says, you won the trial. Are you still mad? Time heals everything. Everything except betrayal, she snaps back. She starts to go but Merdan holds her back. I’ve changed, he tells her, I’m not the same Merdan. Now I’m staying at home with my children and my grandchildren.

Sahver asks, they forgave you? People change and they are forgiven if necessary, Merdan answers, it means I deserved it. Sahver responds, what you said wasn’t written in my book. Merdan laughs this off. Your anger gives me a sign. It means there’s still hope. It’s Sahver’s turn to laugh, then she gets serious. You’re jumping the gun, she says, I lost my husband and daughter in a terrible accident. I had to overcome my pain. All this was good for me. In my own madness, you are ridiculous. Do whatever you want, but do it far away from me. She walks. [wow, what kind of relationship did they have?]

Ozlem comes to see Eren. He asks about Tugce. Ozlem asks, you’ll let her go? Eren says that’s up to the DA. He shows her the note he found in his office. Ozlem shakes her head and says, so? Eren asks, is this a coincidence? Ask who ever wrote it, she flatly replies. Eren gets agitated. It’s anonymous. The door is wide open. Lots of people come in and out. How would I know who wrote this? Answer me, does this have anything to do with Tugce?

Ozlem’s eyes widen. She tells Eren he should be ashamed. He says he checked Tugce’s birth date. Dates match. She shoots back, dates match but people don’t. Her father was…. And when I visited him… Eren says, so you lied, you didn’t break up with him. My daughter had a great father, she replies, his name is Fatih. Where is this great man now, Eren asks. His daughter was arrested for stealing. Ozlem says sometimes they fight and Tugce leaves. Eren is horrified---the girl is only 15.

Ozlem fires back. You’re mad because of a stupid note. It might be a mistake or a joke. I don’t know. Who ever did it will have to explain. Sorry to bother you. She leaves.

secrets #20 part 4

Eren goes to see Tugce. He stares at her. She asks when they will let her go. When the DA says, Eren replies. He hands her a swab to take a saliva sample. The girl is alarmed. I didn’t lick stuff. Isn’t my fingerprint enough? Eren tells her they will check if she has a criminal record [he leaves out: and if you're my kid]. It’s routine. She submits to the test.

Eren makes a call. I’m sending you two samples, but don’t log them in. I need the results asap. A paternity test.

Seda meets with Pars. She introduces herself as Seda Gokmen. Pars is anxious to get down to business. Seda pulls out her phone and shows him a video—Neva meeting with two men. She says Feride must have filled you in on the case. That judge was your sister, Neva. These men top the list of suspects. Your sister excluded some evidence. In exchange she was quickly appointed to Istanbul. She had a valid reason to request a quick promotion.
Seda continues, Pars Savcı, us women are fools when we are in love. Pars interrupts, what kind of nonsense is this? I’m showing you evidence, Seda replies, and you deny it?

Ilgaz meets Ceylin outside the prison. What did he say, she asks anxiously, what happened? Did he say anything? That bastard is playing with us, Ilgaz answers. She asks, is he going to send that message to Pars? Will you let him do it? Do you think I’m afraid?

Ilgaz gives Engin’s letter to Ceylin. She reads: My name is Ceylin Erguvan. I’d like to set the record straight regarding Engin Tilmen. I’ve known him for 10 years and he wouldn’t hurt anyone. But I can’t say the same for my sister, Inci Erguvan. Inci terrorized everyone with her secret life, especially me and my family. She’s a drug dealer who takes advantage of college to… Ceylin stops there. What the hell is this?!

Ilgaz looks at the letter and says, he’s asking for a fair appeal. He wants you to declare that Inci deserved her death, that she provoked him, and that you announce this on social media tomorrow night. That won’t happen, Ceylin states. She starts walking. Where are you going, Ilgaz asks. I’ll talk to him, she replies. Ilgaz says she can’t do that. Ceylin takes his hand. If you come with me, it won’t be a problem. Please, let’s do it. They head back to the prison.

And we are out.

Thanks VERY much, novelera, for this excellent recap, complete with some terrific asides. Especially on target was your comment when Renata claims to Chuy that Valeria never tried to find him: "[Of course. Who looks for a baby one is told died stillborn?]" And I too wondered about the dress Cami wore to Alejandra's funeral. Yes, it was black, but with one bare shoulder and one bare arm, I too thought "[¡Qué!]"

I enjoyed the scenes with Tomás, especially the proposal scene (which I may have enjoyed more than you did) and also his refusal to sit at the table with Chuy, claiming "It's him or me!"

And wow, even though I've suspected for some time that Pascual would turn out to be Chuy's father, I was nonetheless surprised when the truth comes out so quickly in the scene between Olga and Renata.

According to what I could find on Google, apparently about 15% of identical twins have noticeable differences in their DNA. Another group have fewer differences, but still some. And yet another group have no discernible differences. I wonder which group Adriana and Mariana belong to.

So Cami is finally really on to Renata. When Renata tries to put her off, claiming a bad headache, Cami tells her that's not going to work this time. She demands to know "What secret is Chuy keeping for you that you have to pay for it so dearly?"

I'm surprised they didn't arrange things so that this episode would fall on a Friday, and we'd have to wait until the following Tuesday to find out what happens when César calls out "Mariana!" when she appears as he's about to leave. I'm glad it didn't fall on a Friday, and that presumably we'll learn more in tonight's episode.

Again, MANY THANKS!

juego

that was a wonderful recap novelera, loved how you squeezed the snark and details into a nice package!

interesting how Adriana is on a quest to be loved, FJ is so clueless sometimes I wonder if this would work out in the long run, but then again they got past the part when he learned she was dancing at the club.

and then there is the part where he is telling her he is so done with Adriana, when she is standing right in front of him.

loved it when she scoffed at Pascual when he said he seduced her, who reeled in who? This may have been all Adriana was looking for, up to the point where he tossed her away.

what's interesting with William and the dna is that he suspects she is not Mariana.

I wonder if the M necklace will come into play? And there is that birthmark Adriana has.

Secrets

Thank you, dondi356.

The quote for the episode is very fitting.

Engin is going to stir things up. How did he get all this blackmail material? The one about Yekta not having a lawyer degree could be the most effective. It is the way to make Yekta help him again.

Interesting.. Why would Tugce know that there is a detective named Eren that knows her mother? What did Ozlem tell her? I didn't get the feeling that she suspects that he may be her father.

secrets

Wow! Thanks so much for the recap, dondi. Without your excellent recaps I find myself quite confused.

Of course dizis share with telenovelas some pretty implausible things happening. As far as I can tell Engin has hasn't been free for very long since Ceylin put things together after seeing the origami at Yekta's house. I find it hard to believe he's put together all that paperwork and evidence from prison cells.

Yes, the thing with Merdan and the legal author is fascinating. The recap said law professor, but the dialog said she sentenced him, making her a judge? Their dialog sounded more like a personal relationship.

What's up with Seda? When she went to see Engin the first time, she looked like she wanted to scrape him off the bottom of her shoe. Now she's reveling in his revenge plots. And she obviously knows Yekta and Lacin. Distant family? Must say I was gobsmacked by Yekta being revealed as not having even graduated from law school. How could he get away with that for so long? And what he said to Lacin about her insisting on giving birth to Engin... Well, there's an expression for him. He'd have to look up to see a snake's belly.

Well, I suppose Ceylin's tendency to run away and alienate people could be related to her two creepy parents.

I don't understand the video on Cinar's phone. Engin? Merdan? Speaking of those two, they are both unpleasant people. I still don't know what Merdan's plan is. He's blackmailed his son into having him around. Is it strictly needing a place to stay? Seems like more than that.

I don't believe Metin had some dirty relationship with Inci. What else could it be? Hard to believe he could be her father. Gul is about as attractive as an old shoe and self-righteous as can be.

Thanks for the explanation of what Engin has on Neva. Sounds like some crooks who deserved punishment were spared so Neva could get to Istanbul (for Ilgaz?).

These episodes are jam packed with reveals. Again, many thanks for your terrific recaps, dondi!

secrets

Thanks, Lucio and novelera.

I went back to the Turkish ep for research.

Seda brought Engin the files he wanted that must have contained the revenge material. BTW, Engin addressed her as “teyze”, which is an aunt on the mother’s side. The term can also be used out of respect for an older woman not necessarily a blood relative. But it’s likely she is a blood relative.

“Why would Tugce know that there is a detective named Eren that knows her mother? What did Ozlem tell her?” Because Telemundo did a lousy edit when Eren called Ozlem. We didn’t hear Ozlem’s side of the conversation. Ozlem said “I told her you are a friend who would help if there ever was a problem with the police.”

I think Sahver was a judge and a law professor at some points in her career. It does sound like she had a personal relationship with Merdan. And maybe he used her. She mentioned betrayal.

“Well, there's an expression for him. He'd have to look up to see a snake's belly.” --very fitting for Yekta, novelera.

I’m not 100% sure about Cinar’s phone either, but my money would be on Engin’s involvement. Merdan has been protective of Metin and I’m sure he wants to protect his grandson. He warned him about the bloody sock and got rid of his car.

I don’t think that Metin had an inappropriate relationship with Inci. He just felt very guilty over what he did to Zafer. That’s why he felt the need to help Inci.

Cesar confronts Pascual in the hotel bar, tries to force the issue that Mariana is really Adriana, but Pascual stays firm, he's there doing business with Mariana Stanford.

Cami calls Cesar, he tells her he thinks Mariana is Adriana.

FJ has gotten the del Rio lawyers on the case, they advise that no one spill to the media, (too late, Chuy has already made an anonymous call to the tv station)

Mariana is in her office, totally snowed by the high finance paperwork, Pascual appears to warn her about Cesar (why can't everyone let me die in peace says Adriana), Pascual makes a special request (because he doesn't like to beg to a woman) "leave with me". FJ calls her and she takes it in front of him, his life is falling apart and he just wants to see her. Adriana tells Pascual he is the worst mistake she ever made, he needs to go alone.

FJ confronts Renata, he has put 2 and 2 together from the looks between her and Chuy that the three of them were in the Eva killing together (wow, he got one right finally)

Sister Susana meets with Ines and Tomas, likes what she sees and tells them to apply to adopt Miguelito, next step is to meet the families, err, maybe this isn't a good time, aa.. Ale's funeral and all.

Chuy figures soon he will get the house, has Olga move his things into FJ's room, she finds his pic with crosses thru Renata and Pascual.

Cami escapes the zoo, heads to the comfort of Cesar's home, talks with Elvira.

Olga calls Val, she needs to come back, her son's alive.

Noelia connects with Mariana's kids NEW social media account.

Olga confronts Chuy with the pic she found, pleads with him to cool it, spills that Pascual is his father.

Cesar sneaks into the Stanford house, straight to Mariana's bedroom, and finds the diary, she comes home from an exhausting day of work, "what are you doing here?", Cesar replies he could ask her the same question.

I found the fact that Valeria said the baby's father was an artist weird since Pascual's Chuy's father. Why would she say that?

I'm sorta happy they didn't drag the "Mariana is actually Adriana" plot for many episodes. I like that the novela is fast-paced, you can't get bored with it.

I'm also happy Valeria will finally find out her son's alive, but I don't think it was a smart move from Olga. Chuy isn't exactly the most stable person in the world, we don't know how he'll react.

More interesting episodes! I wanted to add that I can do Friday's recap. I have some spare time.

Telemundo

Deb, thanks for the info. I wonder about the schedule changes with this program. I wouldn't be surprised if they put it at 10pm and put Secretos at 2 in the morning or something. It's Telemundo we're talking about.

Great recap, deb! Thanks very much!

I'm really pressed for time--have to be at a meeting very soon. So I can't say much. Fortunately, your recap covers just about everything!

Hated the scene with Yvonne and Elvira. Yes, Elvira orders her not to say a word to anyone, esp. not to "that woman" (whose name escapes me now--the TV snoop). Does anyone think Elvira's warning will be heeded? No, I didn't think so.

I enjoyed FJ's telling Renata he had hoped he was wrong about Pascual: "I couldn't believe I was the son of a murderer."

I found the scene between Cami and Elvira a little strange. No one seems to acknowledge the difficulties that may ensue with Adriana being alive.

So Olga calls Valeria and tells her "Your son is alive, and he needs you!"

I'm not sure what Chuy feels when he finds out from Olga that Pascual is his father.

The scene between César and Adriana was a great one to end the episode!

Deb, thank you for the recap. I record the show and watch it after I read the recap .

The writers were pretty clever making Chuy a minor character and boytoy of a powerful woman....and then...surprise ...he is at the center of it all right along with his partner in crime DAMAS and a serial killer who just happens to own a Bad Bugs Bunny suit . I kept looking at him , and with his black hair and big build, he sure looked a lot more like Pasqual than Tomas and FJ. Are we sure that FJ and Tomas are Pasqaul's biological sons ?

As for Valerie saying her baby's father was an artist , either she was making that up or Pasqual was an artist back in the day when he was young and carefree....well, maybe just young and dabbling in the arts .

secrets #21 part 1

Ceylin meets Engin. Good thing it’s behind a partition. She rips up his letter in front of his face and tells him, I’ll never do it. His comeback— I’ve worked with you for many years. I know every law you’ve broken while doing what you thought was the right thing. Not just the toothbrushes. She repeats, I’ll never do this.

Ok, Engin replies, I’ll see you in the women’s cellblock. You think you’re the only one, he asks. You’re not. She doesn’t care and tells him to do what he wants. He threatens, let’s see how many are left standing when I’m done with you. He hangs up the phone. Ceylin flips out and Ilgaz has to drag her out of there.

Pars asks Seda, why are we here? Being hurt by our siblings is not a small thing, Seda replies, Neva made a big mistake. We are hoping you won’t ignore this crime and will bring charges against your sister. You have until 6p tomorrow. And f I don’t, Pars asks. We will, Seda answers. Who is we, Pars asks. Seda’s response, my client, Engin Tilmen and I.

You must be incredibly smart or incredibly stupid to threaten a DA, Pars tells her. Ok, Seda replies, report me and start an investigation, or take me into custody so my official statement will be on the record. We won’t have to wait until tomorrow. With that she wishes him good luck and leaves.

Pars calls and asks his assistant for information on the lawyer Seda Gokmen. Who is she, where she went to school, etc.

Cinar goes to the phone shop. He demands to know where the phone is from. He’s told a woman came in and wanted to sell it. Surprise! It was Seda. Cinar calls her and demands answers. Seda tells him Engin has the answers. He’s looking forward to seeing you. Cinar is shocked. She hopes Cinar will visit Engin again.

Parla doesn’t qualify for the swim meet. But she will be the sub if something happens to the other swimmers. The coach is very disappointed in her. She skipped practices and was warned. Parla overhears girls in the locker room. Parla’s getting dumped. A teammate has “won” Parla’s boyfriend. Parla gets her revenge by squirting something on the floor so the girl slips and hurts her knee. Parla makes the team.

Ceylin rants outside the prison. Ilgaz managed to swipe Engin’s origami at their earlier meeting and shows it to Ceylin. It’s his revenge list.

Parla tells her mother she has to meet with a friend and will be home later. Parla calls Serdar. I need your help, she says, I’m competing tomorrow. The same thing. Uh, oh, she’s taking PEDs?

Lacin visits Engin. She tells him they met with his lawyer, Seda Teyze. Engin asks why “he” didn’t come. Lacin begs him not to do this. He asks, was it fun to know your husband’s secret? He’s a fraud. His son whom he treats like dirt, has a law degree. He asks his mom why she’s crying. Do you feel sorry for my father? Lacin says she feels sorry for Engin.

Engin says he doesn’t need her pity. She shouldn’t be surprised. He tells her, you held his hand when he said I was a murderer. You were supposed to be with me. I had no choice, Lacin says. We find out that Yekta locked Engin in a closet when he was 9 years old because he broke the handlebars on his bike. He spent two days without sunlight or food.

Engin recounts Lacin planned to run away with him. We made it to the airport, but then you went back to your disgusting husband. He adds, you sent me to that clinic for 3 months. You said you’d get me out of there, but you lied. You chose him over me. Don’t come to me now and pretend to feel bad. I won’t believe you anymore. You chose a murderer over your son. Lacin asks, what did you mean by that? A murderer?

secrets #21 part 2

Engin explains, that’s my next move. Tell Yekta Tilmen to get ready because he will pay for this. I’m going to tell everyone how he framed another party and washed the blood off his hands. He will be judged and father and son will be behind bars. And you will be alone.

How do you know all this, Lacin asks. I’m a nice, well-behaved person, Engin replies, everyone came to me with their dirty little secrets and dumped them as if I was a trash can. And I paid attention to other’s mistakes. I never forget. And for the record, my aunt helped a lot with this. Seda was a victim who became a monster. She came here with tears in her eyes. And she has wonderful contacts. Engin sums it up—who ever calls me a murderer or hurts me will face the real murderer and their own guilt. There’s no escape.

Ilgaz calls Cinar and asks him to meet him at the courthouse. He won’t take no for an answer. Cinar tells Serdar he has to leave. He was supposed to do some job with Serdar. Another man gets upset with Serdar and says he’s out of this. [Did I miss something? A shady deal?]

Ilgaz says he will speak with Cinar and Ceylin says she wants to speak with Osman. He asks her, will we discuss this tonight? Sure, Ceylin replies, come to the office.

Lacin gives Yekta the bad news—Engin will not give up. Once again, Yekta blames his wife. Lacin says there’s nothing she could do. He’s different, it’s like he’s our enemy. Yekta continues to take it out on Lacin. He exclaims, I won’t let him destroy us! Ha, Yekta orders his driver to go, leaving Lacin behind.

Pars asks Ridvan to bring Engin to his office for a statement. Ridvan tells him the police delivered a file. It’s Seda’s.

The AG catches up with Neva in the hallway. She only has a couple of minutes before a trial. The AG says it will take more than a few words, but if there’s something I can do, let me know. Pars is a great colleague and a great person. Neva is puzzled. The AG explains, it’s about his medical condition and asks, is he under treatment? If there’s an emergency please call me immediately. She tries not to look surprised and thanks the AG.

Neva barges into Pars’ office. I’m busy, he says dismissively. She wants to talk. He’s working. She spills, the AG told me you are ill. Pars denies this. It was a wrong diagnosis. He avoids looking at her. She insists—the AG said you were ill! Pars looks up. Supposedly I have epilepsy.

Neva is shocked. Are you getting treatment? Why did I have to find out from someone else? Pars felt no need to tell as it is a private matter. He turns the tables and asks, and what about you? Are you hiding anything? Of course not, she answers, what could I be hiding? If you say so, Pars replies, now excuse me, I’m busy. [Is she annoyed with Pars for not telling her or is she worried about being found out? Maybe both.]

Ceylin finds Osman. He tells her things are good with Aylin but Parla is still upset. He asks Ceylin the reason for her visit. Is it about your father? She doesn’t understand. Osman tells her Zafer is missing. They thought he went fishing but there was nothing. The police found his ID in a car at the cemetery. Ceylin blows up at Osman for not informing her earlier and takes off.

Eren catches up with Tugce as she leaves the station. He asks if she wants him to take her home. She’s surprised at the offer. Why? He smiles at her, because I can. Do you have money? She doesn’t. So let me take you, he says. Tugce would rather have the money, but Eren talks her into accepting the ride.

secrets #21 part 3

Cuneyt asks Yekta what happened with Engin. Yekta says, he’s gotten stronger and is attacking us. He hired his Aunt Seda as his attorney. She’s here messing up her nephew, Yekta complains, we have to find a way to make her leave. Find anything.

Yekta asks Cuneyt to contact the clinic where Engin was hospitalized. Let’s get a report to say he’s mentally ill. We can send him to the hospital. If he can’t keep his mouth shut, we’ll use a straitjacket. Cuneyt says this might take time. Yekta responds, let’s make people doubt him!

Eren asks Tugce about school. She says she dropped out. He asks, do you have a job? No answer. How are things with your parents? You ask too many questions, she replies, I already made my statement.

Ilgaz receives Elif’s report (the hospital case). Ilgaz says to have a team speak with Meltem’s neighbors and relatives.

Cinar shows up for Ilgaz. He’s nervous and asks why Ilgaz wanted to see him here. Ilgaz asks his brother why he is tense. Bad memories here, Cinar replies. Nothing else, Ilgaz asks, is the about the drugs? Is somebody pressuring you? (Cinar flashes back to telling his father, what will I do if Ilgaz finds out? What about Ceylin, Auntie or Defne? Just be quiet and don’t say anything, Metin replied.) Cinar tells Ilgaz there’s nothing. Ilgaz persists, have you been threatened? Tell me so we can take precautions.

Cinar goes on the defensive—only you and this obsession of yours. You always look at me like this. Can’t I worry about you, Ilgaz asks. I’ll always protect you, kardeşim. Cinar apologizes and says he’s doing well. No one is after him. He tells Ilgaz, I’ll let you know if something happens. May I go?

As Cinar leaves the office he sees Engin being brought into the building. The guards sit Engin on a bench as Cinar hovers down the hall.

Ceylin is very upset that neither Gul nor Aylin told her about Zafer. After much ado, Ceylin tells everyone to calm down, she will find a solution and find her father.
Engin spots Cinar. Cinar moves closer and sits on a bench opposite Engin. Looks are exchanged.

Ilgaz calls his father to check in. Metin replies, I’m okay, I’m at the station. Ilgaz says they need to talk tonight, they can’t talk over the phone.

Sahver comes to see Ilgaz. He’s pleasantly surprised. She’s brought signed copies of her book. One for Ilgaz and one for his wife. [lol, the look on his face.] I know, Sahver says, congratulations. Ilgaz thanks her for the congrats and for the books.

Sahver gets down to it. Your grandfather has been released. You took him home. You forgave him. Is it true? Ilgaz averts his eyes and says, I don’t know who has forgiven whom, but he’s home. Sahver warns, you must be careful. If he got out of jail after all these years, it means he has unfinished business. He doesn’t do things without thinking first. If he falls to the ground, he’ll throw dirt in your eyes. I know him very well.

secrets #21 part 4

Seda comes to sit next to Cinar. He slides away from her. Engin watches as Seda slides closer to Cinar. She tells Cinar, he (Engin) knows you killed someone. He’s wondering where you hid the body. He’s also wondering who helped you. Engin smirks from the distance.

Seda continues, you have until tomorrow night and you will tell Ceylin, the police, your brother and everyone, that you killed Zafer. You will turn yourself in. Otherwise, Engin will take care of that. Seda leaves these parting words—next time you admonish someone for killing someone, make sure you haven’t done the same.

Cinar goes back to Ilgaz’s office. The assistant tells him he’s in there with someone. Cinar decides not to wait. Cinar makes a call—I need help urgently. I’ll fill you in when I get there.

Ceylin goes to the police station. Metin sees her in the hallway. He asks, is there a problem? My dad is missing, she replies. Metin knows [oh boy, he knows], your mom came here. Ceylin asks if there’s any news. Metin says nothing yet. He offers to take her to Missing Persons to meet everyone.

The cop fills Ceylin in and motions to the other room. That man was the last person to meet with your dad, he tells her. (Flashback to the man giving Zafer a gun and the keys to a car.) The cop says the man claims he didn’t return his car and hasn’t answered his calls. Ceylin asks why her father took the car. Did the man say anything? The cop replies, no, only that he didn’t return it. Metin is there, listening to the whole convo.

Ceylin tries to piece it together—he drove to the cemetery and forgot his wallet in the car. Metin chimes in, he obviously wanted to see his daughter. Ceylin thinks that’s possible but it is strange. She has a bad feeling. Ceylin asks the cop if they have the car. Not yet, he replies. Get it, she says, maybe he was with someone or he was pulled out of the car. There must be fingerprints. Metin chimes in again, she’s right. Check the car.

Ceylin asks if there’s security video. The cop says there was no video from that day due to system failure. What a coincidence, Ceylin says [coincidence indeed]. She turns to Metin and says, I don’t think it’s a coincidence.

And we are out.

Thanks so much, deb, for the snappy recap. And I also want to thank you for remembering about Adriana having a birthmark.

Well, Mariana's "fitness" guy was very helpful to César. And I am glad that César isn't fooled by the Mariana ploy. I know Adriana is trying to make the Mariana plan work, but she should kick that annoying assistant to the curb.

I'm ready for Chuy's demise. Shot by Renata? Strangled by his own father, Pascual? Locked up by Linda and shanked in prison? Drowns trying to swim away from the cops?

IIRC Olga knows that it was Renata, not Pascual, who killed Eva. Hope this sends the Worst Mother in Los Angeles to the slammer forever. She doesn't deserve a quick death, rather spending the rest of her life putting up with common criminals.

Is Pascual guilty of anything other than womanizing? I suppose the cheating Ale covered up for JetAir could result in some kind of punishment, perhaps refunding the $5 million.

He's definitely guilty of poor timing. He could have slipped away to Spain with Adriana after she drove to San Francisco in Eva's car. Now she only wants to torment him with trying to rekindle something with FJ.

secrets

Wow, I'm on the edge of my seat with this whole dizi! I have no idea what's going to happen next. Thanks again for another terrific recap, dondi.

I've come around to your opinion of Ceylin. She just goes off all the time and seems to have no impulse control. "Ceylin blows her stack!" could be a cut and paste for future recaps.

I suppose we'll find out some time, but I'm wondering why Seda is so all in on the vengeance. Since she's been referred to as Engin's aunt, it seems she's Lacin's sister. It was probably Yekta who did something to her in the past.

Engin is right about one thing. His mother should have had enough courage to leave a monster like Yekta. It seems she almost did so once but was too afraid to earn her own keep or for some other reason and returned to Yekta.

Engin's whole arc in the dizi has been interesting to me. He was Ceylin's puppy-like law partner. Yekta kept pressuring Ceylin to have Engin return to his own practice. In light of what we've seen about Yekta's paternal behavior, I wonder why he wanted Engin around. Yekta's damaging of Engin has produced what we now see. I also remember a flashback where Engin said something about Inci's never looking at him the way she did Cinar. The Engin actor is very good.

Whoa! Sweet Parla that I admired for still loving her sister after Zafer threw her things on the street has revealed a dark side.

I am SO worried about Cinar. Metin made the big mistake about not reporting what really happened. And now Cinar's guilt seems to be driving him back to his old habit of being involved with Serdar. It might be that Serdar is so eager to keep Cinar involved in his dirty tricks because of Cinar's father being Chief of Police and perhaps covering things up.

I almost hope Yekta's plan works! A loony bin would be a very good place for Engin so as to help members of the cast Viewerville really likes.

Secrets

Thank you, dondi356. So many balls in the air. The recap keeps track of all of it.

I remember in the beginning Parla, when she learned about Inci, went to the locker room and deleted some text messages from Inci. It was suspicious. It must be Inci who hooked her up with Serdar to get drugs.

I don't remember how AG learned about Pars' medical problems. I thought he only told Ilgaz. And why would AG talk about it with Neva, it is a private issue.

I wonder if Ceylin is going to get Ilgaz to help her with the investigation about her father. That would put Ilgaz against Metin.

I will do a very brief recap tonight unless there is another volunteer. Wednesday night/Thursday morning is not a great night for me.

#69 [SO tired of Chuy!]

In the Stanford house Adriana continues to lie to César. He thinks she’s there to enjoy the luxuries. Just then William shows up and pulls a gun on César.

Noelia shows Cami her “page” and her cousins.

Olga is starting to look afraid of what she raised. She tells him Pascual doesn’t know he’s Chuy’s father.

Pascual is on TV coast to coast.

William calls some guard who I guess lives with them. César gets the jump on William; then Adriana points the gun at William and the guard so César can leave.

Cami thinks Adriana may have been the person she thought was outside César’s house looking at Noelia.

We get a couple of flashbacks of how Pascual treated Chuy as a child.

Valeria shows up. Chuy stares. Valeria says that Olga told her that her son was alive.

Pascual shows up in César’s room (how?). He convinces César that he’s innocent.

We get to see Valeria administer a fine slap to Renata. Chuy isn’t feeling filial toward Valeria.

Pascual talks to Cami on César’s phone. She believes he’s innocent. Pascual is moved to tears.

Brazen Chuy is in FJ’s room and lends Cami some toothpaste.

Linda and Fernandez come to see Renata. Linda takes NO crap from Renata and reminds her that they aren’t like Barros. When they say one person couldn’t have buried Eva, Renata tries to throw Chuy under the bus.

At the breakfast table Chuy has the cojones to ask Valeria if it’s true her child’s father is Pascual.

Cami, Valeria, Inés and Tomás have a brainstorming session at the foundation offices. Cami opines that Adriana, Valeria’s son, and Cara Sucia were raised at the same orphage. Cami has an inspiration that Valeria’s son might have led Adriana to the Del Rios.

César comes to “Mariana’s” office and plays a recording when she and Noelia were teasing him. Adriana finally stops pretending. She says she can’t tell him who Cara Sucia is. It’s too dangerous. He loved her and was the one who shot Mariana thinking it was her. We get to see where he shot from, but no bunny suit as yet.

Adriana meets FJ at the beach.

Chuy is chilling with some good whisky when Cami comes to the Zoo. In the foyer she gets a call from César and Chuy overhears that Adriana is alive!

secrets

Thank you, novelera and Lucio. If it wasn’t for you, I would have switched over to watching in Turkish.

“"Ceylin blows her stack!" could be a cut and paste for future recaps.” I’ll keep this in mind, novelera.

No doubt Yekta had something to do with Seda losing everything she had and leaving town.
ITA your take on Engin, novelera. The actor is very good.

We all agree it was a stupid move for Metin to cover up Zafer- Cinar. He’s a cop, he should have done better.

Good recall, Lucio, on Parla deleting Inci’s texts. I wasn’t paying full attention to the early eps since I saw them a couple of years ago. I have memory gaps. And you must be right about Inci hooking Parla up.

That AG is a real busybody. Wonder if he’s hiding anything. We know he learned about the Pars-Yekta connection from Ceylin, who learned about that from Cuneyt. Maybe Pars admitted it to the AG when questioned. Maybe the Turkish eps had more detail. I didn’t look.

My recap will be up late today, maybe not until the evening.

juego

what a great recap novelera!
Thanks for doing that.

Chuy was looking dapper at breakfast in a sport coat, I guess the lawn doesn't get mowed today.

I went back with the english caps and gleaned out a few more small details.

Cesar's hands were empty when he left the Stanfords (exceot it does look like he picked up something small off the floor), but later he still has the diary which he reads cover to cover.

Pascual in Cesar's room reminds Cesar that he gave Pascual his card if he needed help.

Noelia said Yvonne helped her with her media profile and connecting with her cousins, always so helpful. Noelia tells Cami she wants to go to Miami and also the orphanage.

Olga tells Chuy that Pascual doesn't know, he was told an artist was the father.

Linda lets on that GumChew is about to go on trial for what he's done.

I think Chuy was in the bunny suit, but with the head off, when he shot Mariana.

Secrets #22 part 1

Ceylin thanks Metin for his help. He thanks her for helping Cinar. She becomes very emotional thinking about her father’s disappearance. She’s trying not to think of the worst. She gathers herself and says, this will pass, I know I’ll find my father. She asks Metin, if you stay on the case, you’ll give me updates, right? He will. I’ll never forget what you’ve done for me, she tells him. More guilt for Metin.

Ceylin sees the man who had dealings with Zafer. How was he when you saw him, she asks, was he upset? The man says he wasn’t well. Ceylin follows up, did he tell you anything? Why did he need the car? The man says he already gave his statement.

He wants to go. She stops him. I’m not a cop and we’re not in the station, she says, if you can’t tell the police, you can tell me. Don’t worry. The man tries to get away again. Ceylin begs him for help to find her father. If you gave him the car, you must know each other. How can I find him? The man just repeats he told the police everything. He can’t help. He leaves.

Eren drops Tugce off. Before she gets out of the car, he asks for her phone. He gives her his phone number. Call me if you need anything. Eren waits for Tugce to enter the house. The door opens and Ozlem and Fatih come out. Fatih immediately rips into Tugce. He doesn’t want to let her in and pushes her. Ozlem starts yelling at Fatih.

Eren is alarmed. He gets out of the car, and he’s about to intervene, when he gets a call. The samples are a match! He’s stunned for a few seconds, then he runs to the house.

Ozlem stops Fatih from hitting Tugce. Eren grabs Fatih. Tugce shouts at Eren, he’s my father, he didn’t hit me. I deserved it! Leave him alone! Let him go! Eren backs off. Don’t interfere between fater and daughter, Ozlem admonishes. They will resolve this themselves. Eren looks as if he’s about to cry. He leaves.

Fatih wants to know who brought Tugce home and why. A police officer. Tugce says he was just trying to be helpful. He’s a good person. Ozlem thinks it was for the best that he brought her, Tugce is just a kid. Fatih is not happy.

Pars looks over the docs on Neva’s case. Seda arrives and Pars greets her without looking up. How did you know it was me, she asks. Your perfume, he replies, jasmine and tea tree. I have a sensitive nose…for things in general. Engin is brought in.

Pars asks Engin, how’s it going, avukat? Getting used to prison? Making friends? Engin sighs, is this the proper way to get my statement? Where’s the secretary? I won’t give my statement unless it’s on the record. Pars says he didn’t send for Engin to hear his statement. I’ll talk and you’ll listen.

Pars begins, in 2020 a convicted murderer was killed with a sharpened spoon that was found on the floor. In 2021 another prisoner committed suicide. No one knows how he got the belt to hang himself. In 2020, another prisoner died, cause of death unknown. Recently, a prisoner died from eating baklava. [maybe Merdan can send special baklava to Engin]

Seda asks, is this a threat? Pars says he’s just sharing information. That’s life. Your client needs to be careful that’s all. Think about it. Seda stands up and thanks Pars for the life lessons. Pars says they can go. [Wow, Pars.] Seda is nervous over Pars’ threat. Engin is not. He’s continuing with his plans.

Eren comes face to face with Engin in the hallway. Eren asks, what’s this piece of trash doing here? The DA wanted him. Eren walks away and Engin calls out, how is your daughter doing? Eren tells the guards he will take charge of Engin. The guards try to stop him but Eren shoves Engin into a bathroom and closes the door.

Many thanks, novelera, for this very helpful recap. It included some things I somehow missed. For example, I didn't remember Renata throwing Chuy under the bus when it was pointed out that one person couldn't have buried Eva. I guess I shouldn't race through the recordings quite so quickly.

I too was surprised that Pascual was able to get into César's room. Pascual can be quite resourceful, but especially given the fact that his photo was now being shown everywhere on TV (even in Miami? Why?), I would think he'd have been recognized (as he was at the bar).

I do think Pascual struck just the right note when he told César that he (César) knew what it was like to flee when you're being accused of a crime you didn't commit.

"Mariana" warns William that she can send him to prison any time she feels like it. He in turn reminds her that if he goes down, she'll go down with him.

Why does Camila hold the cellphone away from her when César calls her? It's almost as if she wanted anyone else in the vicinity to hear what he said. (I know that's not why she does this--the problem is, I can't think of ANY reason that she does this except to advance the novela's plot.

Is the perplexed look on Chuy's face caused by his wondering how to deal with the uncomfortaable fact that people are getting close to figuring out who he is, or is he astonished to learn that he had shot Mariana, not Adriana?

Secrets #22 part 2

Eren grabs Engin by the throat. What did you say outside? I only asked about your daughter, Engin replies, was she released? She must have been scared. How do you know she’s my daughter, Eren asks. You can’t imagine what I know, Engin answers. I’ll kill you, Eren growls as he roughs up Engin. I’lll kill you, you bastard! Engin calmly says, you have until tomorrow night to tell your daughter you are her father. Otherwise, she will find out on her own.

Ilgaz sees Pars in the hallway. How are you, he asks. Pars replies, how am I supposed to be? Do you expect a hug from me? You told the AG about my illness and expect me to be friendly? Ilgaz tries to explain but realizes it doesn’t matter. Pars walks.

Eren threatens to throw Engin out the window. What do you want? Talk! Protect your daughter, Engin advises, or you’ll find her dead body inside a dumpster. Eren pulls his gun and puts it to Engin’s head. Ilgaz enters the bathroom and stops Eren. The guards take Engin. Ilgaz calms Eren. Let’s go talk.

Engin and Yekta cross paths. Words are exchanged. Yekta calls Engin and idiot---I won’t waste my time with you. This idiot has a law degree, Engin responds. Good luck using it in prison, Yekta replies. You still have a chance, Engin says, an apology might do the trick. Yekta says never. I’d rather die than apologize. Engin is loaded into the van.

Eren laments, shes’ 15, Ilgaz. She’s stealing, she doesn’t go to school. She’s angry at life. And she thinks that bastard is her father. They didn’t even pick her up from the station. I took her home. You should have seen it. They pushed her and yelled at her. At that moment I got the DNA results. How can a person become a father in two minutes! Ilgaz asks Eren if he ever considered this possibility. He says he didn’t know anything about Ozlem.

Ceylin starts looking through stuff in her office. She finds a pic of her father. She snaps it and sends it out on social media. Zafer Erguvan has been missing for a week. Contact this number if you have information.

Eren explains when Ozlem’s ex got out of prison, they got back together. I locked away any love I felt for her, he tells Ilgaz, I walked away. Ilgaz asks, how did Engin find out? How does he know what you don’t? Eren thinks. There was an incident when I worked in Robbery. I disclosed my connection to the guy and it was added to my file. Ilgaz calls Engin a maniac. He’s determined to take us down with him.

Serdar meets Cinar. Cinar says he’s leaving the country. He’s sick of dealing with his brother, his dad and now his grandpa. Serdar reminds him there’s a case pending against them. Cinar can’t leave. Cinar asks Serdar to find a boat, fake passport or plane. What about money, Serdar asks. Just do what I say, Cinar replies, I’ll find the money. Serdar says to meet him tonight.

A guard takes Engin to small cell. Ilgaz requested it. We see a phone that Engin had hidden in his bunk. A text comes in. It’s hard to read, but I think it says “Cinar wants to go abroad”.

Eren asks Ilgaz, how am I supposed to tell her I’m her father? He cries. How can I live with this lie? Ilgaz thinks Eren has no choice. Sometimes that’s the way it is. Even if it hurts or causes trouble, the truth is the only way. Let’s say I tell her, Eren imagines, I’m going to lose her. Ilgaz says, that will be the case. She will refuse to look you in the eye. She’ll never want to see you again. If you ran into her, she’d walk right past. It would be over before it began. [hmm...who is Ilgaz really talking about?]

secrets #22 part 3

Eren thanks Ilgaz for his help. He reasons he will have to tell or else Engin will. They can’t keep Engin isolated forever. He still has the right to see his lawyer. Ilgaz says all Eren can do is explain the situation to Tugce. Eren doesn’t want Engin to get away with this and says he’ll figure something out.

Ceylin goes to her family. We can’t sit and do nothing. She plops flyers on the table. He (Zafer) could have gone abroad. He could have taken ill. He could be in a hospital. Let’s distribute the flyers. Ceylin asks her mother to contact relatives and neighbors. She asks Parla to share this on social media.

Lacin brings Yekta a signed copy of Sahver’s book. Sahver is Seda’s mentor. So what, Yekta asks, will she adopt your sister? Lacin says, I thought she could talk to her and convince her not to continue this. I’m guessing this didn’t work, Yekta smirks. Lacin admits that Sahver didn’t want to get involved in family affairs.

Yekta tells Lacin she wasted her time while he came up with a solution. He says, you’ll see your sister and talk to her alone. Tell her I have an offer for her. Force her to accept. An offer? Yekta replies, yes, and this will resolve your issues with her. You didn’t have the chance the last time you saw her.

Ceylin distributes flyers.

Metin looks at the abandoned car and thinks back to what Cinar told him about his kidnapping. He wipes the steering wheel clean.

Neva sneaks into Pars’ office at night and looks through files.

Serdar brings Cinar to meet with one of the boss’ boys. Whoa… Merdan appears. What’s going on, he asks his grandson, where are you going?

Engin calls Seda and tells her that Ilgaz had him placed in confinement. She says they knew this would happen. Yes, but I don’t have my phone, he says and asks, what will we do? Seda says there’s still time. She adds, Parla is about to get what she wanted. Seda doesn’t understand. So Parla will take the drugs and wins. How do we benefit?

Flashback. Engin is with Inci while Inci talks to Parla on the phone. This is how he found out about Parla doping. Inci swears Engin to secrecy. If this gets out, Parla said she’d kill herself. End. Engin says let her win the race and we will force her to confess to doping. Seda thinks Parla is so young and this will ruin her life. Engin doesn’t agree. He says this will be our gift for Osman.

Parla meets with Merve. Merve asks her if she’s sure about this. Parla thinks she has no other choice. Merve says she never approved that Inci did this. Parla takes all the blame on herself and adds that she doesn’t do this for every race. Merve warns her to be careful.

Lacin and Seda meet. Lacin tells her Yekta has an offer. Don’t do this, Seda replies, you can’t do this right now. There must be something else you’d like to say first---like an apology. Lacin listens stonefaced, then she continues, Yekta said… Seda interrupts—I’m leaving. Lacin says, if anyone should apologize it should be you. Seda is astounded, you still believe Yekta? He’s done and lied so much. Yet you still believe him and not me!

Lacin says, it’s not what Yekta said, but the way you looked at him. Don’t deny it. You were jealous and in love. Seda tries very hard to contain herself. She explains, we grew up without a father. Did it ever occur to you I thought of him as a father figure? Did it occur to you I admired him so much that I was unaware of what he was capable of? What kind of love are you talking about?

Don’t lie to me, Lacin tells her sister. Believe whatever you want, Seda unequivocably replies, I never felt that way about your despicable husband. Besides, he didn’t even deserve your love. Lacin is unmoved. She says, Yekta is willing to give up the firm. Just drop Engin as a client. That’s what I came to tell you. Cara de impactada de Seda.

secrets #22 part 4

Pars barges into Yekta’s office. He gets right down to it. Yekta, we must silence your son. [another wow for Pars]

Ilgaz and Metin speak at home. Ilgaz tells his father, other people know. This won’t stay a secret. What are you talking about, a worried Metin asks. Ilgaz says it’s Ceylin’s father. Metin looks as if he will faint. Ilgaz continues, it’s what happened six years ago. I don’t know how Engin found out about it. Metin needs to sit.

Metin asks if Engin is the guy that killed Inci. Yes, Ilgaz replies, he threatened me today. I have to tell Ceylin or he will. Metin asks, are you saying you have to choose between me or her? Ilgaz hesitates. Ceylin is not just some random lawyer, he admits, she means more to me. Metin mentions their marriage. Ilgaz says he’s speaking from the heart.

Metin asks if there’s any other way to solve this. Ilgaz doesn’t think so. Even if we cover it up again, even if Engin gives up, even if he dies, the truth will come out. There’s nothing we can do. My future can’t be dictated by a past I had nothing to do with. Metin doesn’t know what to say. Ilgaz says that Ceylin will find out anyway. And when she finds out, she will keep going.

Ceylin has been waiting outside the Kaya house. He is surprised to see her there. Did something happen, he asks? She tells him her father is missing. Can I hug you, she tearily requests. He holds her. I wanted to come to you the moment I found out, she says, so I could hug you and tell you everything. It’s the only thing that calms me.

They move apart. She continues, I know you’re mad at me and with good reason. I was selfish and I hurt you. I’m sorry. But I’m afraid, Ilgaz. Why do I get you in trouble? Something always happens to you because of me. Haven’t you noticed? There was no reason for Engin to threaten you and then I screwed things up. Ilgaz says they are at the edge of a cliff. Things can go either way.

It hurts me to know how much pain I’ve caused you, Ceylin says. I brought you down to my level, little by little. You didn’t deserve that. And that’s when I tell myself to run and never look back. People will get hurt if I don’t and I’ll regret it. I don’t want to live like this, she laments. For the first time, I’m mad at myself for running. I try to run but I keep coming back to the same place. You have no idea how hard it is for me to hold back.

She puts her hand on his face. I’m with you, Ilgaz, and I support you. If you’re with me, I’ll be with you. I’m not going anywhere because I can’t. She presses her nose against his. It starts to rain. He pushes her away. She gets indignant. Don’t tell me you refuse to be with me. She’s ready to take off.

Ilgaz stops Ceylin and tells her, you have no idea how much I want to kiss you and be with you. But it’s impossible. She asks if he is back with Neva. No. So, what is it, she asks, what’s the problem? Ilgaz starts slowly, when I tell you, you will be so mad at me that you won’t want to kiss me or look at me. She waits for the rest. He says, my father was one of the people… who framed your father and let him take the fall. Ceylin is stunned. Ilgaz explains that his father’s boss made him do it. He didn’t want to do it but he had to or he would have been fired. He was just following orders.

Ceylin looks sick. She walks a few steps and waves her hand at Ilgaz to stay back. She asks him why. Ilgaz explains about his mother’s cancer and how his father’s boss found a doctor and lent him money. He used my dad, Ilgaz says. Ceylin rushes into the house and bangs on Metin’s door.

And we are out.

Secrets

Thank you, dondi356.

Engin's bunk is like the operation's headquarters - information coming to his cellphone live! Impressive operation.

"Recently, a prisoner died from eating baklava. [maybe Merdan can send special baklava to Engin]" Pars could have added: "You know, the prisoner who had a conflict with Cinar '' for better analogy.

The paternity is a big surprise for Eren and he is upset that he didn't know all these years, but he did nothing wrong. It's unfortunate that he has to tell her the truth under pressure, but maybe it's even better this way.

Ilgaz needed to tell Ceylin about their fathers if they were going to start a relationship, even without the threat from Engin. The threat took some merit out of his confession.

Thanks again for another terrific recap, dondi. AMEN on Engin getting some of that special baklava! I loved Pars' discourse on prisoner deaths. I'm not disliking him as much as I did at the beginning.

It's interesting that the writers have portrayed Engin as completely indifferent to threats. Even when Eren had him halfway out that window, he didn't flinch. The only thing that upset him was that isolated cell without access to his phone.

Ye Gods! Engin tells Eren he might find his daughter in a dumpster. What a monster.

What case does Serdar have pending? It sounded like he meant he and Cinar might be facing some charges. But I thought Cinar was never discovered being involved with drugs. Maybe the "we" is Serdar and some other guy.

Wouldn't Tugce be happy to have Eren as her bio dad instead of the abusive Fatih? Not sure why Eren is so sure she'd hate him forever if she knew the truth.

Merdan! I guess this explains why he's pulled off so much stuff since getting out of prison. He's some sort of crime boss. What's confusing is that I remember him ordering someone to find the body of Zafer. If someone else has it, who?

I thought Lacin told Seda she would get ownership of the firm, not just that Yekta would walk away.

Yes, at first Metin thought Ilgaz knew about what he's been doing to protect Cinar when he mentioned "her" father.
