Friday's recap will be posted later today, maybe early Saturday morning, depending on your time zones.

juego

Sorry for this late response, novelera. Somehow I failed to see your comment.

I hope you're right about there being no other possible verdict except "Not Guilty." I agree, of course, but the writers have frequently been playing with us, and with almost 20 more episodes to go, the writers may think it's too soon for César to be released. It's not, of course, but.... Just call me a worrywort.

Like you and deb, I'm moderately confident that Adriana will be able to get the upper hand with William the Bully. I doubt that he's had much experience in dealing with a woman like Adriana.

As for Chuy's plans, I suspect that "detective" Chuy is hoping that what he said to Berenice will lead to Pascual's being arrested for the murder at the amusement park. And he clearly intends to have FJ accused of killling Ale. Just how he brings that about isn't yet clear. Although Ale claimed to be calling from a restaurant,I'm not sure whether a restaurant will be where FJ supposedly will kill Ale.

Juego

I have some problems with my video that I assume will be resolved later today. The recap might be slightly delayed. Ugh! I've NEVER had this problem before!

Juego (again)

UPDATE: Problem probably resolved.

Juego de Mentiras - Capítulo 62 - Jueves, 8 de Junio, 2023/Viernes, 9 de Junio, 2023 - Parte 1/4

Great. After the the video problems, I had problems with the sound and subtitles. Ugh. Nightmare.

As we all hoped, it is decided that César is innocent. Hugs all around.

Ale tries to untie herself. Chuy comes in and tells her something about being at the best place. Ale calls him mi amor. Chuy turns around and Ale unties herself grabs something (pipe?) and starts screaming at him that he's poco hombre because he only kills women. She calls him Cara Sucia. Chuy gets his gun out and points it at Ale.

Mariana's husband, William, says that she's been gone for months. Mariana's youngest kid hugs her saying "you're back!" The oldest one sees DAMA and leaves.

Chuy says something about rich people being easy to manipulate. Ale says she really loved him and says about him being more important that her political career yada yada. They kiss. During the kiss, Chuy shoots her. Adiós, Alejandra.

After César is declared innocent, Vero and other reporters arrive at court. César says that he feels happy and that it wasn't an easy case, but at least it's proven that he's no killer. He also thanks Camila del Río for helping him. He says that he just wants to be with his daughter. 3 seconds later the elevator door opens and Noelia runs to César. Big hugs. The reporters, of course, take about a thousand photos. Even Vero seems happy, but I guess that's because she's on TV.

Renata and Pascual are watching the news about César and they're NOT happy campers. Renata says that the maldita testigo (the damn witness) must have betrayed her, otherwise César wouldn't have been freed. Pascual says something about Camila and Renata responds that there's no way she'll let her daughter marry César and starts her usual annoying Renata talk. FF.

Camila and Linda thank each other for the work each of them did to help César be declared innocent. Noelia says that today is the best day of her life.

Chuy starts calmly cleaning the blood from the room. He sits in the couch and speaks to the dead Ale. He says "we could have been happy, mi amor, but you betrayed me, like Adriana". He uses her thumb to open her phone. He starts writing a text to FJ with his gloves OFF.

FJ receives the text. It says: "Me urge hablar contigo de tu papá y de Adriana Molina" (I urgently need to talk to you about your dad and about Adriana Molina). FJ looks sceptical.

DAMA interacts with Mariana's family some more. The young kid says that she (is the kid a girl or a boy?) missed her. DAMA asks the other girl if she missed her. My audio was bad, but I think she either said no or didn't respond. Awkward silence. DAMA says that as much as she would love to tell them all the details, she needs some time to rest. Mariana's family leaves.

Juego de Mentiras - Capítulo 62 - Jueves, 8 de Junio, 2023/Viernes, 9 de Junio, 2023 - Parte 2/4

There's a happy mood at César's. Cami gets the same text FJ got from "Alejandra", aka Chuy. She flashes back to Bernice showing her the picture of her father. She tells César about the text without looking very concerned. César tells her it's not over, he has to find Cara Sucia, the real killer, it's his fault his family is going through all of this.

DAMA is taking a shower when Mariana's husband gets in the shower with her. DAMA is making the fact that she doesn't want to do anything pretty clear with her facial expressions, but William just continues kissing her. DAMA leaves. William is clearly angry. DAMA, are you sure you want your sister's life? Absolutely sure?

We get another sweet scene between César and Camila. Camila says to César that she thinks it's very fair that he's helping Linda get her job back. Someone knocks on the door. Elvira VERY STUPIDLY opens WITHOUT LOOKING OR ASKING who is it. Thankfully, it's Linda, but honestly! It could have been ANYONE! Why ON EARTH did she just open the door like that? Anyway, César and Linda leave. After a minute, Camila also leaves, she says she has to see her parents.

Some cops arrive at the company. They want to speak to FJ. Pascual comes in and asks how he can help them. The cops aren't impressed. They repeat they want to see FJ. Pascual doesn't look very happy. I guess he's not used to cops ignoring him, just as he's not used to women leaving him when he's poisoning them.

There's a slightly long, but interesting discussion between FJ and one of the cops. The cop says that Eva's death was first declared an accident and then a suicide. FJ says that it's impossible, she was fine. The cop insists that he can't know the exact mental state of somebody. FJ continues by saying that Eva wanted to tell him something important. The cop "counters" this by saying that perhaps she changed her mind, what?! FJ adds that she wouldn't leave her cats (someone asked how many cats she had. It was answered in this episode. She had 2) and that she always took photos of herself in her trips. Isn't it weird that she didn't take a photo of herself in that trip? He shows him the photos on Eva's social media. He asks the cop to investigate it.

Pascual screams at Renata that he's sure the cops are here because of FJ's denunciation against him.

The cop says that without a reason they can't search it and asks FJ why does he think his father killed Eva.

Renata says that they don't know for sure if FJ called them for that reason. Pascual screams a bit more and tells her to call GumChew.

FJ tells the cop that he thinks Eva wanted to tell him about his dad and his lover (his dad's lover). The cop says that it could give him motive. Well, DUH! FJ says that he only wants justice.

Juego de Mentiras - Capítulo 62 - Jueves, 8 de Junio, 2023/Viernes, 9 de Junio, 2023 - Parte 3/4

DAMA is talking with Mariana's oldest kid. I didn't understand the conversation because my subtitles vanished, which normally isn't a huge problem, but Mariana's daughter is quite a mumbler. What I did understand is that DAMA asked some questions that Mariana wouldn't have answered, because they kept saying she "forgot". Suddenly, the rich lady that adopted Mariana storms in and says that she understands that she needs her space, but she's her mother, she should have told her she was coming. She then tells her that her sister was murdered and saying something like "God knows why I chose you and not her", oops. She adds that César Ferrer, Adriana's husband, was found not guilty of killing her.

Renata does call GumChew. He's busy chewing gum (shocking) and playing basketball in his office, he says he can't do anything for Pascual's case. Renata threatens him by saying that he is where he is because of her and she can talk with the connections etc. GumChew insists that he can't do anything. César and Linda enter his room. Linda opens a gum wrapper and chews gum too lol.

GumChew continues being annoying by saying to César to not get comfortable, there are other unsolved murders and that he is going to visit him again. César asks him how is he going to involve him this time, planting evidence didn't help last time. GumChew plays dumb, César and Linda show him evidence that he planted a passport. They tell him that Linda has to get her job back. They leave. Can I just say that during the whole conversation, GumChew was chewing gum and playing with a plastic fish? Like, qué the heck?

Camila goes to her house, Olga greets her. Chuy enters and Cami asks him how could he do that to FJ. Olga says that she doesn't want to justify him, but Ale is in love with him too. Cami cuts her off and says that if she doesn't want to justify him, she shouldn't do it. Cami mentions the text she received and Chuy plays the worried novio act, says that he hasn't been able to communicate with her since yesterday, when she told him she is going to talk with Cami's dad. Cami looks shocked and says "with my dad?" Clever, Chuy. Clever.

The cops leave the company. Pascual asks FJ if he's going to make a denunciation against him. He adds that he's his father.

Inés, Tomás and Miguelito have a nice family scene together. Plotwise, Inés tells Tomás that she didn't learn anything new regarding Valeria's son.

Pascual starts screaming at FJ that he can call him a womaniser and a bad father, but he's not a killer. He asks FJ if he thinks he's capable of that. FJ says that a few months ago, he would have said no, but now, yes, he thinks he is capable of that and more. Pascual says something about keeping this between them only, FJ refuses. FJ adds that he wants a strictly professional relationship with him or he (Pascual) has to go. Pascual at first refuses but then gets threatened by FJ that he'll tell his siblings about the murder case I think and Pascual accepts.

Juego de Mentiras - Capítulo 62 - Jueves, 8 de Junio, 2023/Viernes, 9 de Junio, 2023 - Parte 4/4

DAMA and Mariana's (adoptive) mother are talking. Mariana's mother says that she (Mariana) told her she's pregnant! DAMA says that she lost the baby. Mariana's mother says that maybe it's for the best and something about William being dangerous. She also says that she'll help at court (if she wants to go to court? Something like that.) William enters so the conversation is cut here. Ugh. We lost valuable info for some stuff about fish and wine.

César tells his mom that Linda got her job back. Elvira is happy and César says something about GumChew. His mother tells him to stop thinking about revenge, he's free now. Noelia enters and shows her father the good grades she got at school.

Cami and Chuy talk about Ale and then Chuy says that he has a job interview, he wants to leave the house. He then says something about having a suit but needing a tie for the interview. Camila goes to her father's room to get it. After she leaves, Chuy smiles like the Cheshire cat. Uh oh.

César and Elvira talk about how nice Camila is. César says that she's Renata's daughter and whether they like it or not, there will always be a social difference. Elvira says that Cami stayed here all this time and then they continue saying nice things about Cami.

Meanwhile, Cami is in her father's room, searching for a tie, when she finds a shirt with blood on it, must have planted by Chuy! Cami is impactada. (Great acting by Altaír).

Pascual and Renata come home, Olga tells them that Cami is here and wants to see them. Chuy says that she's at Pascual's room. He goes there.

Cami is obviously still shocked and her father entering the room didn't help at all. She shows him the shirt and tells him that there's also a gun, gloves and a ticket to the attraction park where Adriana died. Renata also walks in. Pascual swears that he has never seen that shirt in his life and asks her to not also start with the park.

FJ and Ray talk about Ale, none of them can find her. FJ tells Ray about the text he got and mentions some audio message. The important is that no one can find her and they're all worried.

Chuy takes a marker and draws an X on Pascual's face on a family picture. He says something along the lines of "one person less of this family".

Cami says that she came to ask them if they know something about the investigation and instead found this. Pascual tries to talk to her but she tells him not to come closer and that she doesn't know him anymore. Renata mentions César and Cami tells them that she loves him with all her heart and if she had to choose between César and them, she's definitely choose César.

DAMA goes to the gym where she sees some Ángel, we learn that Mariana's baby was his! He says he missed her and was worried and made a denunciation because she was missing for too long. DAMA, of course, freaks out.

Someone knocks César's door and he, VERY STUPIDLY, opens the door WITHOUT LOOKING. Like mother, like son. It's Linda again. She says she got her job back and as she was searching the offices, something caught her attention. It's a missing person report. César asks her why did that get her attention and Linda responds by showing him the report. It's about Mariana Stanford.

And with César's confused look, we have the Fin del Capítulo.

secrets

I'm going to post a recap of #13 this afternoon. I'm really enjoying this show. I’m sorry Telemundo sabotaged it. I encourage lurkers to comment. I’m willing to do a catch-up post or answer questions for anyone who wants to join in progress.

Secrets #13 part 1

Some scenes condensed or combined.

Looking for evidence that will clear Osman, Ceylin and Ilgaz (#IlCey) show up at the apartment of the couple who married at the hotel on the night of the murder. They view the wedding video and, bingo, Osman and Zumrut were present. IlCey takes a copy of the video as evidence.

The blood sample from the Tilmen’s house is exchanged for another. But we know that Eren and Pars had a second sample taken out of the view of Yekta. Pars hands over the second sample for Eren to take for testing.

We find out that Eren was married. The marriage broke up because of his profession.
Metin is really ticked at Ilgaz. He wants his car back ASAP! He’s got to bring Cinar home from the hospital and… uh…Zafer is in the trunk.

Cuneyt (Yekta’s assistant) informs his boss the blood sample was switched. [Joke’s on them] Yekta is pleased and tells Cuneyt he will make him a partner when this is over.

Ceylin hands the wedding video and invite to Eren and he brings them to Pars. Eren also says they couldn’t find fingerprints on the ashtray or earring found at Osman’s. Pars says he will release Osman. I think he said he wants to interview Zumrut again.

Ilgaz brings the car to the hospital so they can bring Cinar home. Metin tells him he submitted his retirement application. Cinar can hardly look at or speak to Ilgaz. He’s feeling very guilty over what happened with Zafer. [I still can’t understand why this is a coverup. Cinar was kidnapped and defended himself] Ilgaz goes to get a wheelchair and Metin cautions Cinar not to arouse suspicions in Ilgaz.

Eren and Ceylin come to take Osman. Ceylin informs Engin, who is in the next cell, that time is running out for him, Osman is innocent. You’re a killer, she tells him, you will go to prison and get what you deserve. Osman is shocked to learn Engin is the killer. He starts shouting and Ceylin drags him away.

Eren has a few words for Engin, too. Bad news, rulitos, we found blood at your house. It’s over. You can’t escape this time. [They translated rulitos as Mr. Ringlets. The Turkish word was “kıvırcık” – curly]

Ceylin rips into Osman and tells him his freedom has a price. She insists that he admit his affair with Zumrut to the family. If he doesn’t she will. Osman lets Ceylin know that Zafer left for work and he will be away for a while.

Osman tells the family that he was released thanks to Ceylin. Mama Gul tells Ceylin no one will thank her and wants her to leave. Ceylin says she will leave after Osman speaks. He starts by saying Engin is Inci’s killer. Gul refuses to believe this. She still thinks that Cinar did it and he is free thanks to Ceylin. Sister Aylin can’t believe this either. Engin is such a good guy. Ceylin is disappointed her family refuses to believe her but says the truth will be revealed soon.

Ceylin presses Osman to come clean about Zumrut. He does and somehow Ceylin gets blamed for destroying her sister’s marriage. What a horrible family.

Metin drops Ilgaz and Cinar at the house and zooms off in the car. [I laugh every time they show a close up of the trunk]

Cinar continues to act weird around Ilgaz. He tells Ilgaz he’s just very tired. Defne comes in and lightens the atmosphere.

Ilgaz gets a call. The blood was Inci’s. He leaves the house and calls Ceylin. She doesn’t answer.

Yekta visits a panicking Engin. They found blood. Yekta says to trust him, he took care of it. Stick to the plan. Cuneyt shows up with the bad news that there was a second sample, and it matches Inci.

Engin accuses his father of doing this on purpose. You hate me and want me to suffer, he says, you’re ashamed of me. You claim to help but you tricked me. You want to send me to prison and be rid of me. Father and son glare at each other.

Pars wants Engin brought to court right away to request remand.

Secrets #13 part 2

Ceylin finally answers Ilgaz. He tells her about the blood and that Pars has sent the case to criminal court.

Metin continues to chauffeur Zafer around. He’s able to avoid a traffic stop by flashing his police ID.

Grandpa Merdan shows up in front of the Kaya residence. Defne is in the yard and he asks her for a glass of water. She obliges. [I thought grandpa was in prison. How’d he get out?] Merdan does a magic trick for Defne. She exclaims, just like my brother! Do it again!

Merdan has sent baklava to his former cell mates. He sent pistachio baklava special to Kadir, the guy who attacked Cinar. Merdan wanted to thank him for his special performance. [did grandpa have something to do with it?] Didn’t you get the feeling Kadir shouldn’t eat that special baklava? Yep, it’s poison and Kadir dies.

Loving the way Eren taunts Engin with a little ditty as he leads him to court. IlCey arrives at the courthouse. Ceylin fills her hubby in on what happened with her family.
Metin is at Inci’s grave. He sadly tells her, I brought your father here. Allah günahlarımızı affet – May God forgive our sins. He wipes tears. He goes back to his car, looks around, and opens the trunk. It’s empty! Zafer nerede?!

Engin’s hearing begins. Pars makes the case for remand—nature of the crime, flight risk. Yekta counters—Engin is a lawyer, he has no criminal record. Pars case seems strong—he attacked the victim’s sister, he ran, he tried to tamper with evidence.

The judge asks Engin if he has anything to say. Engin wants to make a statement. A confession. He begins, I didn’t do it. I didn’t kill Inci Erguvan. My father did it. [congrats if you expected that bomb to explode!] He killed her, Engin says emphatically. He adds, my mother is here, ask her. My father is trying to pin it on me, but he did it. Yekta rises from his seat. Everyone is in shock. Engin shoots a sly look over at his father.

Engin is released. Ceylin is beside herself. Ilgaz tries to calm her and gets her to leave with him.

Pars tells Eren he wants to take Lacin’s (Engin’s mother) statement. Eren wonders why.
Mother and son leave the courtroom and share a victorious hug. Yekta pulls Engin aside and warns, enjoy the move you made on your father, but it will be short lived. Yekta glares at Lacin and leaves, with Cuneyt following behind.

Engin doesn’t seem too worried. This is just like they planned. We get the flashback. Lacin visits Engin. She tells him they searched the house. She doesn’t know if they found anything. He asks if she spoke to “Rajit” [I don’t know who that is] and if she memorized her statement. All she wants is to leave together. Engin tells her not to worry, they will start a new life. End flash.

Secrets #13 part 3

Eren catches up with mother and son before they leave. Engin is smug and Eren is steaming. Eren tells them the DA wants their statements again.

IlCey and Eren discuss. Ilgaz thinks that Yekta is in on it and they are stalling for time. Eren mentions Engin must report each week. He can’t leave the country. Ceylin is skeptical. She thinks he will escape right away. She is disgusted at the thought that the Tilmens will get away with this.

Ilgaz says don’t give up. We’ve learned a lot from what’s happened. We won’t choose the legal route [that’s a surprise to hear from him] Eren says they will be followed day and night.

Metin calls Ilgaz. I had some things in the trunk of the car, where are they?? Ilgaz has no idea. Metin presses, you drove the car. Who else would know but you? Metin loses his patience—it’s not there! Where did you leave the car? Maybe someone broke in? Ilgaz highly doubts it. Ilgaz wants to know what’s missing and why it’s so important. A coat and some documents, Metin answers and quickly hangs up. He heads back to the warehouse and finds nothing.

Yekta enters Pars’ office. We need to talk. Ridvan is excused. Yekta begins, this doesn’t benefit either of us. You’re my witness. I was with you that night. I did not commit that murder. What are we going to do now? Pars stares, Yekta smirks and continues, lying and refraining from telling the truth goes against your beliefs. I’m sure you’ll take my side in this case. You are going to tell them why we met that night!

Pars replies, we both know that won’t happen! It’s not a lie. It’s a case that can’t be opened. My, my, Yekta answers, our secret lives on. He asks, I have to be sacrificed so nothing happens to you? I’ve never done that. What do you have in mind, Pars wonders, you must have prepared something. Yekta tells Pars, you will get me out of this. I don’t know how, but I can talk.

And we are out!

We are on Turkish ep 9 and the quote is: "When it snows on the mountain you trust, the best solution is to leave the mountain and the snow alone. When the day comes and the snow melts, the best answer is to greet the mountain that watches your path from another mountain." –Șems-i Tebrîzî

Juego

On part 3, paragraph 1, I meant "that Mariana wouldn't have asked".
And
On part 4, paragraph 5, I meant "must have been planted by Chuy".

And I even proofread it! Lol

juego

Wow, Weirdo, thanks VERY much for this superb recap. How you managed to do it in the face of so many tech glitches is beyond me. Indeed, you even managed to catch something I missed--Chuy's using Ale's thumb to open her cell phone.

Chuy, however, isn't infallible. Though he carefully wipes down the stairs and the bannister, and though he has brought gloves with him during one or more of his murders, he uses Ale's phone without gloves, as you point out. Will this be what does him in?

I too was somewhat confused about Mariana's younger child. I think "Mariana" refers to the child as Joseph, which led me to assume he's a boy, in spite of his long hair. But are we ever told that Mariana's two children are a daughter and a son?

Anyway, William's attempt to have sex with "Mariana" in the shower is thwarted when the younger child calls out for help with his/her/their schoolwork.

I'm glad you called attention to Elvira's habit of opening the door without looking to see who is there. This has driven me nuts from the start.

I was impressed with Adriana's ability to keep a totally neutral expression when Mariana's mother mentioned that César Ferrer had been found innocent. Her struggle to do so was apparent, but only to those of us who knew how important this was to her. The actress's ability to convey simultaneously struggle and neutrality really impressed me.

GumChew is still obsessed with his bubblegum. I did find myself wondering how he managed to blow one bubble inside another. Is that really possible, or was it done with some kind of technology?

I was somewhat surprised when Elvira urged César to forget about GumChew and getting vengeance. César rightly points out to her that GumChew could injure others unless he is stopped.

Though Chuy may have planted the bloody shirt, gun, etc. in Pascual's closet, it was somewhat hidden away. Why would he think that asking for a tie would lead Camila to gun, etc? Indeed, why did it? Are ties usually stored in out-of-the-way bags?

Ah, so Mariana was pregnant when she left home. It took some fast thinking on Adriana's part to figure out what Mariana's mother was referring to AND to quickly account for why she was no longer pregnant.

Again, MANY THANKS, Weirdo, for this excellent, heroic recap!

juego

I too am impressed with the time and effort you put into your recap Weirdo, thank you so much!

yep, GunChew brought all of his toys to his new job, love that stuffed little fish, and yes Juanita, wow on the bubble within a bubble he blew. So Linda wanted an upgrade and got her new job with the LAPD.

was that dragon fruit on the del Rio kitchen counter with the apples, I've never had one.

Chuy is moving up in the world, all of his shirts now have sleeves, I think when he crossed Pascual off the family photo he said that's one, four to go, so he's taking on the whole family? No wonder he told Olga he was taking her with him.

I may have this wrong as I was missing some captions too, but I think Mariana left because she was preggers and didn't want her husband to know, (and I guess the San Diego police didn't do an autopsy), and also her mother apologized for being part of some court thing that allowed William to gain control of all of Mariana's money, but there was a scene where her daughter pointed out that she owns the boat outright as it was a present from her husband, but then when Adriana suggested they go out on it, the daughter reminded her that last time Mariana fell overboard and almost drown.

I was expecting Ale to hang around a bit longer, let's see, Chuy left a gun with Estela, Jacinta, Lucy, may have kept the one that killed Rocio, the one probably in the backpack with Mariana, one in Pascual's closet, now one with Ale, the folks at the gun store must know him by name.

Chuy must be showing the burning hatred that Rocio spoke of that built up in Adriana, but so far she has kept a lid on hers, but I wouldn't push it William.

(I noticed Telemundo isn't showing any previews at the end).

juego

Wow! Fantastic recap, Weirdo! And with tech problems as well. Hats off to you! I really enjoyed your snarky asides as well.

Ale, Ale, can't say I'll miss you. That was really stupid to expect CaraChuy to forgive and forget after she called him not much of a man. Plus, really, a fireplace tool against a guy the size and with the muscles of Chuy? Why didn't she try to run?

Yes, Mariana Stanford's younger child is a boy. He looks a bit younger than Noelia. I'm not sure what the elder daughter's problem is. Maybe just teenaged girl angst?

Gah! Camila keeps coming back to the Zoo. In this case the writers needed her to look for a tie for Chuy and find the planted evidence. But, realistically, she should never even be in the same room with her scheming, rotten mother.

What César plunked down in front of GumChew was a report of what was in the backpack: the gun and absolutely not a passport. It wasn't explicit, but I had the impression it was the crime scene evidence report from the San Diego cops, before GumChew had the opportunity to plant the passport. More TN crazy legal stuff. If the murder happened in San Diego, why was the trial in LA?

And why would Linda want the job in LA? Assuming she has a place to live, maybe even owning a home, she's got a 66 mile commute, one way, in CA traffic. Why not get her San Clemente job back?

What I gathered from the fish and wine conversation with William is that he asked her to prepare the fish dinner he likes so much. Adriana is stumped. And he wanted a bottle of that wine Mariana surely knew was his favorite. This also revealed that, rich as we thought she is, he expects her to cook for him.

An interesting thing that Pascual said was that he'd always been afraid of guns. This was a reason he couldn't have shot someone. I can relate. Long ago my brother-in-law, a gun lover, tried to get me to do some shooting at a tree stump or something like that. The fun felt like a poisonous snake or something in my hand. I handed it right back to him, trying not to insult him.

Juanita, we might have been clued in to the sex of Mariana's children by the desktop photo on her computer. I don't remember it that clearly. The boy has longish hair, but he might still have looked male in the photo.

So, is this the first time César is aware that Adriana had a twin? Hard to believe she could have been married to him that long and not have mentioned it.

secrets

I'm up to date, dondi. Thanks so much for the wonderful recap. I always rely on you to get those Turkish names right - the ones that continually elude me.

Yep, last night had some bombshells. No...I was not to be congratulated for figuring out Engin and his mother's strategy. I was gobsmacked.

Is this a Turkish thing? Or a RN/dizi thing? Strangers show up at your house and you invite them in to show them your wedding video? They might have identified themselves as officials, but still.

I assume the wedding invitation was included with the flash drive to confirm the date and that Osman couldn't have committed the murder.

Amen about the craziness of Metin sullying his reputation and causing Cinar to wallow in guilt. Crime scene evidence could probably prove that Zafer was killed at close range during a struggle for the gun. And it seems several people knew about Zafer's thirst for revenge.

Thanks for translating rulitos. I didn't bother to look it up, but he sure does have incredibly curly hair.

And ITA about how horrible Ceylin's family is. I have disliked that sullen, mentally unhinged mother from the beginning. And Zafer with his almost biblical rejection of his daughter was SO dark. Her surviving sister is hysterical and unlikeable. The only decent one is Aylin and Osman's daughter. What's the Tolstoy expression: something about every happy family being alike while every unhappy one being unhappy in their own way.

Yes, how did Merdan get out of what looked like solitary confinement? Plus, he must think he's now invincible. The treats that were delivered were said to be sent personally by him. Then he poisons an enemy. Won't he be accused of murder?

And what could Pars and Yekta have been doing the night of Inci's murder? That was such a surprise to me.

Thanks again, dondi, for the fine recap. I am enjoying this dizi also.

Novelera, I do recall seeing the photo of Mariana and her two kids. Probably because both kids had longish hair, I assumed they were two girls. So I was surprised when "Mariana" greeted the younger one as Joseph. Some names are (or have come to be) gender-neutral, even names like Sam and Max. But not Joseph.

I agree that Ale was incredibly foolish to accuse Chuy of being a coward and unmanly.

It will be interesting to see how/whether "Mariana" manages to discover William's favorite dish and wine.

secrets

Thanks, dondi356.

I like this show so far. It is fast paced, with a lot of twists. The latest is Engin pointing the blame at Yekta. Surprise! First I thought Yekta planned it, but it appears not. Now with his mother's testimony and with all the fake witnesses that Yekta arranged Engin looks innocent and Yekta has no alibi.

It was smart of Pars and Eren to take two samples of blood. Sample tampering must be not new for them.

Cinar acted in self-defense, agree, why act like it was a murder?

Where is Zafer? I thought Ceylin or Ilgaz would open the trunk, but no. Is Zafer really dead? Otherwise how would he disappear from the trunk?

Juego

Weirdo, thank you for an excellent recap. Chuy has certainly taken on a much larger , more important role than I ever expected at the beginning when he was trimming hedges, drying dishes for mom , and mooning over powerdriven Ale. " Sun's, guns out" has a double meaning now for crazy eyed , gunhappy Chuy.

When Cesar and Linda left Gumchewz office , he was standing at the door showing off a big bubble and Linda burst it. Ha ..was that foreshadowing? Is she going to figuratively burst this guy's bubble. The actor seems to want to make his character quirky like Colombo , but I think he should have dialed it back .

Gee, Linda is on the new job for half and hour and finds the paper about missing Mariana. Beanietime.

Juego

Thanks to everyone for your comments and kind words! I really appreciate you feeling in some info/dialogue I missed.

Juanita, ITA with everything you said. I could copy-paste your entire comment. I was also impressed of how DAMA's actress played her scenes in the episode.

"It will be interesting to see how/whether "Mariana" manages to discover William's favorite dish and wine." LOL yes!

Deb, I loved "all of his shirts now have sleeves" and "the folks at the gun store must know him by name". Also, thanks for explaining some scenes with DAMA in them. Now it makes much more sense.

Novelera, I also found it weird that Ale very stupidly stayed back and screamed at Chuy rather than running away. And if she wanted to stay back, why didn't she hit Chuy in the head with whatever she was holding instead of just standing there?

"What César plunked down in front of GumChew was a report of what was in the backpack" Thanks, I kept trying to see what was that but I couldn't.

Pascual being afraid of guns is very interesting.

Susanlynn (that's you, right? I assume Susan Yenser is your tablet's autocorrect) I really want Linda to actually burst his bubble. I wish it is foreshadowing! And yes, small beanie time with how quickly she found the missing person report.

Great questions by everyone.
Also, thanks (to everyone who commented on that) for clarifying the gender of the youngest kid. Half the times I thought it was a girl and the other half a boy. So it's a boy. Well, if I heard the name Joseph I would have been sure lol. Yesterday's tech problems were over the top annoying.

secrets

Thanks for commenting, novelera and Lucio. Seems we are on the same page. Hoping we can eventually form a nice little patio for this.

novelera, I thought the same thing about the woman letting IlCey into the house to see the wedding video. I believe they identified themselves but didn’t show any ID.

Lucio, I think Eren, Pars and everyone in those circles know how sleazy and untrustworthy Yekta is. I was happy to see them take the second sample.

How is it possible that Zafer got out of that trunk himself? Maybe someone else was following Zafer that day?

Inquiring minds are desperate to know why Pars and Yekta met on the night of the murder. It’s gotta be juicy.

I will put up some sort of recap later today.

Secretos

I am also enjoying this. I usually lurk, but wanted to tell you I’ll be following your great recaps/comments.

Maybe the grandpa (Merdan?) has been following and then removed the body from the car.

secrets #14 part 1

Welcome, Babachita! Interesting theory on Merdan. Could be.

Pars tells Yekta they can work this out, but Engin must pay. Yekta agrees. He tried to help that ungrateful brat but now he’s putting himself first. [wasn’t that always the case?] He tells Pars, do what’s necessary. Pars is ticked and says he would have already caught Engin if Yekta didn’t interfere. He promises to go after Yekta for this. Just punish him (Engin) for his crime and we will be at peace, Yekta replies.

Yekta quietly confronts Lacin. Why do you have such hatred for me? Calling your husband a murderer. You think I won’t take revenge? Your nightmare is about to begin. She remains silent and scared.

Yekta assures Cuneyt there’s nothing to be worried about.

Pars enters Ilgaz’ office. He offers a truce to IlCey and Eren. If we work together we can put Engin behind bars. Our goals are the same. Why take a different path? Ceylin and Eren agree. Ilgaz has reservations. What do you really want, he asks Pars, are you doing this for your own well being? Pars gets up. His final words to Ilgaz—don’t come asking for my help later. Ilgaz replies, find a way to arrest Engin and we will work together.

Ceylin is ticked at Ilgaz for putting a condition on accepting Pars’ offer. She feels Engin will ultimately escape punishment. Ilgaz thinks she’s a little too enthusiastic about working with Pars. You were in right away, he says. She’s annoyed—when people show you kindness, you don’t know how to act. He shoots back, people aren’t just kind. There’s always a motive. Eren jumps in asking, when did the honeymoon end? Eren and Ceylin leave.

Zumrut vacuums and misses repeated calls from Osman. He’s trying to warn her Aylin knows everything. Too late, Aylin is at her door and invites herself in for coffee. [Ay, if looks could kill, Zumrut would be dead before she hit the floor]

Pars questions Engin—if your father did it, why didn’t you mention it before? Engin replies it was because his father was present. Now that we are alone, Pars says, you can explain how your father did it. Engin answers, after Inci got the money, she ran into my father. He killed her while I was in the hospital. How do you know that, Pars snaps, I want evidence.

Engin starts to mess with Pars. You seem tense, he tells the DA, are you upset that I didn’t turn out to be the murderer? Ha, ha, Pars pulls Engin’s chair close up and offers, or is it because I know you are lying? Don’t change the subject. He pushes Engin away.
Engin continues, my father put Inci in the car in which I came home from the hospital. He wore a cap and hood. He ran a red light and got fined. Then he dumped her. This is why you found blood in the car. I told you about Neset, the owner of the car rental. He can back me up because my father returned the car in the morning.

Flashback. Engin shows a picture to Neset. It’s Yekta with a younger woman (is this Neset’s wife?) and they look happy together. Engin reminds Neset he begged Yekta to give her a job and says age doesn’t matter to his father. He likes them young and old. Neset explodes, I’ll kill him! Engin has a better idea. Stay calm and I will help you get revenge. No one else will know. End flash.

Engin goes on, my father confessed to me and my mom. She was the one who found the earring. Ask her too, she will back me up.

Ilgaz catches Ceylin looking at files on his desk. She asks him about a case. A mother who almost lost her child and now she’s blaming the hospital. [No idea if this will mean anything later]

secrets #14 part 2

The convo turns to Pars questioning Engin. Ilgaz mentions that Lacin, Yekta and “your guy” are there, too. My guy, Ceylin asks? Ilgaz replies, the lawyer (Cuneyt), your first love. [remember Ceylin spoke about him before. He was a mujeriego and the relationship ended. Oh, and do you think Ilgaz is a wee bit jealous?] Ceylin answers with a smile, oh he wasn’t my first love. My first love was…. Ilgaz interrupts her, you don’t understand. She says she does and asks why this bothers him. He orders coffee and doesn’t answer.

Back to Engin’s deposition. Engin asks, did you check Inci’s car? Pars says no. Engin says the car has plates with “YT” for Yekta Tilmen. My father bought her that car. Check company records. Flashback. Engin bought the car for Inci. He forged his father’s name and got the money. Inci was so excited, she gave Engin a big hug. He held her tight and took in her scent. End flash. Engin claims his father was crazy about Inci.

Pars calls Engin a great storyteller. If all this is true, why did you confess to Ceylin? Engin says that was his dad’s idea. He said he would help me. He made me confess. Pars doesn’t buy it. Engin adds the info about Osman and how Yekta had the evidence planted on him.

Suppose we believe you, Pars says, the city is full of cameras. Phones leave a trail. What if they show your father was somewhere else that night? Don’t bother looking for footage, Engin replies, my father knows people, he didn’t leave a trace. I think you don’t know him very well. It’s understandable… you’ve been busy with love matters [what?!]

What the hell are you saying, Pars asks with great irritation. Engin calmly answers, I mean no harm. You’ve been through a lot. Things got complicated. You couldn’t see the killer even though he was in front of you. Pars lifts Engin by the collar and shoves him against the wall. Pars blurts, what are you talking about?! I know you killed her! I was with your father that night! [lol bet he wishes he could take that one back!]

I guess this deposition is over, Engin says and asks, tell me where were you and my dad that night? No answer from Pars as he releases Engin from his grasp. Ridvan is stunned. Engin wishes Pars good luck and starts to leave. Pars holds him back. I didn’t say you could leave.

Pars loosens his tie and collar. Let’s play a game, he says. You like lying, we can too. He pulls his jacket off his shoulder and puts his fingers through his hair. Engin says, you can’t keep me here. Oh yeah? Pars opens the door and shouts for Eren, claiming Engin attacked him. Eren rushes in and grabs Engin. Ridvan backs up Pars.

Quite a show. Engin is brought into the hallway. Everyone’s there to watch. Ceylin and Yekta enjoy the performance. Lacin worries and Yekta pretends to be concerned.

Pars puts himself back together and walks past IlCey without a word. Ceylin runs after him. Ilgaz moves slower. Pars enters Ilgaz’s office. Ceylin asks about the “attack”. Pars says Engin needs to know who he’s messing with. She gets it. Ilgaz is suspicious, but Pars sticks to his story. Engin is arrested, so what’s wrong? Still not satisfied? Ceylin jumps in, no we accept, and Ilgaz agrees, too [to work with Pars]. Pars cracks about who’s the boss in IlCey’s marriage. Ilgaz snipes back. [wonder if these two will end up best friends?]

Pars gets down to business. We have 24 hours to figure out how to keep Engin in jail. We have to weaken his defense. Pars says he’ll take the hospital and tells IlCey to work with the police. He will stay out of their way. Pars leaves and Ilgaz looks bothered. What’s wrong now, Ceylin asks? Ilgaz leaves without a word.

secrets #14 part 3

Back to coffee talk at Zumrut’s house. Aylin menaces Zumrut. First she speaks in generality about Osman cheating. I need to find that woman, Aylin coldly states, I need to look her in the eyes. Zumrut gets a call from Osman that she doesn’t take. Then a text… Aylin knows. Zumrut can hardly keep it together under Aylin’s stony glare.

Defne tells Merdan she needs to go back inside. She asks him if he will come again and show her more tricks. He says yes. As Merdan walks away, Metin pulls up in his car. Metin doesn’t notice Merdan who tries to hide himself. After Metin enters the house, Merdan walks back by the car. He notices something and places his fingers under the rear of the car. Blood.

Aylin continues to mess with Zumrut, who has her back turned to Aylin while she washed dishes. Aylin talks about losing her son and her sister. She talks about Parla’s suffering. Her hands pass over knives on the counter. She admits, you think of hurting yourself. We’ve lost so much, Zumrut, because we are surrounded by evil people.

Aylin continues, I don’t want my husband to die and Parla to be left without a father. Inci grew up without a father and look what happened. She tells Zumrut, you are dead to me. Aylin says she will keep this quiet. She doesn’t want her uncle to have blood on his hands.

Aylin grabs the sniveling Zumrut and turns her around. She wants Zumrut to stay away from Osman or she will wish she was dead. And she wants Zumrut to quit nursing school. Aylin leaves and Zumrut totally breaks down. [I thought these scenes were well done]

Metin gets testy with Cinar. Cinar wonders if his father is having doubts about him again. Metin calms down and says let’s talk. Cinar says, if this is too much for you, don’t do it. Metin asks Cinar to trust him. He asks Cinar, did anyone see you go in or out [from the warehouse]? There were gunshots. Do you think anyone heard? No one came looking? Cinar doesn’t think so, but he can’t really remember much. He passed out and then woke up.

Cinar becomes concerned. What’s happening? Is there a problem? Metin only says he’s checking for loose ends. Cinar asks about Zafer. What did you do…. Metin says, near Inci’s grave and says he got rid of the gun.

Ilgaz meets Pars in the hallway. All he says is—“Kebapcı” (kebab shop) and goes.

Ceylin and Eren are driving somewhere. She’s irritated about Ilgaz’s “obsession” with Pars.

Aylin returns home and tells her mother she had coffee with Zumrut. Gul gives her advice—be kind to those who are good to you and stay away from those who hurt you. You must be unyielding in this matter. Aylin cries, she can’t do this without Osman. She has no one else. Gul says, you will always have me. [and that’s a comfort?] You have a beautiful daughter. Aylin says she can’t stand another loss. She asks her mother to keep quiet. Uncle Ziver would kill Osman and Zumrut. God will help us, Gul says.

Aylin goes to Parla, who is crying in her bed and comforts her

secrets #14 part 4

Ilgaz and Pars sit at the rooftop table. Ilgaz asks him, what’s your problem? I’m only concerned about doing my job, Pars replies. Ilgaz presses, tell me what’s bothering you . You’ll feel better. Pars answers, being suspicious of people will hurt you. Trust your colleagues. Ilgaz says, you know I didn’t believe you. I can see you are lying even though you are trying hard not to avoid my gaze.

Pars insists he has no other problems than this case. Ilgaz stares him down. Pars finally says, I didn’t want you to be chief prosecutor. I wanted it so I went for it. You wanted help. I offered it and you said no. You’re always looking for something more. I don’t know your problem.

Maybe I just know you too well, Ilgaz responds, and you know me, too. You can’t fool me with your tricks. I told you we would work together on one condition, and you went about it wrong. I don’t like that. Ilgaz asks point blank, do you have a secret agenda or are you being cornered? Which is it, Pars?

And we are out.

Secrets

Thank you, dondi356. Excellent recap.

Ceylin should have asked to end the investigation about her stealing the toothbrush when Pars offered cooperation.

So, Engin was preparing his defense while Yekta was trying to help him(self.) That flashback proves that Engin was planning to go after his father. What a pair - father and son.

I remember Ilgaz interviewed a woman about the hospital case before. It must be the same case Ceylin opened. Sounds like we will hear about it more, it is part of the story.

Both Ceylin and Ilgaz get frustrated with each other. I like watching their relationship develop and that it is not the focus of the show. Ilgaz, actually, doesn't have a personal motive to continue being involved in this case - Cinar is out and not a suspect anymore. He is there for Ceylin.

secrets

Wow! Fantastic recap, dondi. Love your writing style and your asides.

Well, the first thing that came to mind was Pars and Yekta being gay. But that's probably farfetched. Plus, Engin came up with that photo of his father with another woman. Also, if I were a gay man, Yekta would be the very last one I'd choose!

I am noticing the heavy use of flashbacks that I've seen in other dizis. Of course Juego de Mentiras is using them heavily as well. Has Telemundo been copying plot points from the Turkish dizis since the agreement with NBC?

I am confused about the timeline of the things Engin is revealing, as well as the character development of Engin. He was the sweet friend of Ceylin, then he was disturbed and racked with guilt. Now he's cold and calculating. The blood test showing Inci's blood in the car was JUST revealed after Ceylin rearended the car driven by Yekta's flunky. And we see Engin plotting with the owner of the car. I thought he would have been in that jail cell after the blood was discovered. Also, people spend nights in this jail cell: Ceylin, Engin, Osman. And there's no sign of a toilet.

I wish the previews or whatever they call them didn't constantly show Ilgaz and Ceylin kissing. Viewerville could guess something would develop between the two of them, but why make it so obvious.

So...Aylin's vengeance about Zumrot having a thing with her husband extends to forcing her to quit university? I'd prefer her to not be next door if it were me.

In my neighborhood, if a creepy old guy spent that much time with a little girl, there'd be 911 calls accusing him of being a child molester. Kids today are SO sheltered. Most of them are driven to school, something that would have caused my Ohio parents to laugh out loud. I played outside completely unsupervised and was expected home when it got dark.

Why does Merdan hide from Metin?

Why did Ceylin insist on coming inside and outing Osman in front of his own child?

secrets

Forgot to say this: Welcome, Babachita!

secrets

Great comments, Lucio and novelera! Everything moves so quickly in this dizi. One needs to pay close attention to detail. A good memory comes in handy. Maybe I should take better notes.

Thanks, Lucio, for reminding us Ilgaz interviewed a woman regarding the hospital case.

ITA, “I like watching their relationship develop and that it is not the focus of the show. Ilgaz, actually, doesn't have a personal motive to continue being involved in this case… He is there for Ceylin.” But Ilgaz isn’t ready to admit any feelings. It’s just his steadfast pursuit of justice. *wink*

Yes, you’d think Ceylin would have negotiated an end the toothbrush investigation. But then there would be no reason for her to stay married to Ilgaz. She’s attracted to him, too.

novelera, there are no out characters or gay storylines in diziland. I’ve seen flamboyant characters in rom-coms but they are comic relief and platonic friends of women. They don’t have lovers. It’s basically “don’t say gay”. It’s a shame.

I’m also annoyed at the opening credits. The Turkish eps, at least in these early ones, do not hint at any romance at all.

LOL, “Also, people spend nights in this jail cell: Ceylin, Engin, Osman. And there's no sign of a toilet.” I guess if they have to go, a guard needs to take them out. I always think about this when someone gets kidnapped and they spend days tied to a chair.

Lucio posted: “So, Engin was preparing his defense while Yekta was trying to help him(self.) That flashback proves that Engin was planning to go after his father. What a pair - father and son.” Yeah, Engin had a backup plan. He knows he can’t trust his father. And IIRC, there was a profile on Engin that said he had serious mental problems (due to his father) when he was young. He killed his father’s dog and attacked someone. He was hospitalized for a while.

I believe Merdan is persona no grata to Metin because of his criminal history. Must have been an awful childhood for him. I think Metin mentioned Cinar reminded him of his father and cited that as a reason for their strained father – son relationship.

“I played outside completely unsupervised and was expected home when it got dark.” Same here. How times have changed.

“Why did Ceylin insist on coming inside and outing Osman in front of his own child?” Ceylin has a bad temper and a cruel streak. Ilgaz better watch out.
