Valiant Yet Not Victorious; Perpetrators Become Prisoners; Bitter Accusations and Agonizing Guilt
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith – 2 Timothy 4:7
The tragedy picks up after Ramses has shot Apolo in cold blood as he “made him bored.” “Apolo” Leona screams, turning incredulously toward Ramses, yelling that he shot his own brother. Apolo’s bloody wound looks grievous as she puts her hand over the hole in his side. Ramses cruelly suggests Apolo not use up all his energy; his life is ending with each successive breath. David begs to attend to him as Ramses grabs Leona. The SWAT team arrive at last and throw Ramses onto the ground. A distressed Leona spits out she had told Ramses this would be the end. Far from vanquished, he assures her she will never be at peace; she will have to watch her back every minute. She will never be happy as Leona. Or Marena. As the life force ebbs from his body, Apolo asks Leona to tell Josefa that he will never stop loving her. Leona cries that he needs to tell Josefa himself…he can’t leave! She repeats “No puede ser! Don’t do this to me…please!” Ramses and Columba are lead out handcuffed, Columba’s head held high, with no outward sign of emotion. David attends to Flor.
Gael accompanies a shaking Kika to the police station. Sitting at one of the many manned desks, Gael tells the officer he is there to file a report against Romeo who hurt his daughter. The officer asks when it happened and if they brought any evidence with them, such as Kika’s clothes. Kika answers that the attack occurred several days ago. The policeman says that will complicate things. She will be checked by a doctor but any scars or signs of the abuse may have disappeared and there may be no evidence. An indignant Gael insists they consider Kika’s word. He lovingly assures his daughter this will not be the end of it for Romeo. The officer explains he is following procedures but Gael won’t hear it! He doesn’t care about procedures; that infeliz hurt his daughter. If he can’t do the job, get someone who can! Gael hugs his traumatized daughter, telling her he loves her.
AnaJu and Teo walk down the hall arm in arm. She is dispirited, wishing she could move forward in time and have all of this in the past. Teo suggests thinking about good things that might make her feel better. He asks if AnaJu had a 15th birthday celebration. When she replies she didn’t, Teo suggests that they have one for her 16th. AnaJu tells him that it’s not her actual birthday; technically, she and Ben share the same day.
Benja admits to AnaJu that he has been out of sorts too but would like to know what their actual birthdate is. Consuelo assures them that Leona will provide all the details; but in the meantime, there’s no reason why they can’t celebrate her birthday. AnaJu doesn’t feel like it but an animated Teo and Itzel both try to talk her into it. As an incentive, Benja offers to give her a more modern ‘do" and offers that Jacinta will provide some delicious food. Cristobal even offers to choreograph a dance routine! AnaJu notices that Consuelo isn’t too enthused so Consuelo explains that she cannot stop thinking about Leona! She prays that Leona can enjoy the celebration for the daughter she had been waiting for …together with the son she loves. AnaJu listens with a bit of a grimace.
Diana
Clara serves Camila tea with a side of support. Camila confides that AnaJu was supposed to be as far away from the family as possible. Camila fears that AnaJu will follow through and become emancipated, going straight to Leona. Clara comments that Leona has a right to be with her children but she had no right to bring chaos to the families. Camila nods, agreeing wholeheartedly. Clara, having found a sympathetic ear, declares that her son has suffered because of that woman! Clara asks Camila if she is in love with David and Camila confesses she is. She became a strong woman thanks to him…after her accident she never thought she would love again or be loved. She smiles demurely adding she thinks that she and David were made for each other. Between satisfied sips, Clara advises that she should fight for him. She warmly grasps Camila’s hand saying David deserves a new love and she will support Camila.
At the hospital, Leona is devastated, berating herself for everything that happened. Faithful dog David (credit Rgv Chick) tells her that she is not at fault; Flor made the decision to take part and Apolo sacrificed himself to save them. Leona insists that Clara was right. How can she tell the family that Flor is fighting for her life and how will she tell Josefa, tell everyone that Apolo might die? She agonizes as to what Benja will think of her and wonders how she will ever face AnaJu. David tries to assure her Flor and Apolo will survive, but Leona wonders what will happen if one of them dies; she didn’t want things to end like this. David hugs her, trying to calm her down, reminding her that this was the only way to stop Ramses.
We see Flor on the operating table as the doctor looks at her gravely. There is a split screen and we see Apolo in surgery with many instruments amidst the blood.
“Leona” Gael calls out as he and Josefa arrive as Leona and David are hugging. A distraught Josefa asks how Apolo is. Leona replies that both Apolo and Flor are in critical condition. Gael comforts Josefa saying that they can’t lose their faith, they finally had justice done and God won’t leave them.
Camila apologizes for everything her family did to Clara and her loved ones. Clara tells her that it was very difficult but it brought more than pain…she has a grandson that she loves and who loves her. Camila comments now that her father has been arrested, their lives should improve. Clara smiles and thinks Camila isn’t like the rest of her family. As Camila reaches for a raspberry cookie, a sleepy but sad Lili comes out saying her mother has not come home and that she is scared. Clara assures her that her mother will arrive soon.
Back at the hospital, David explains that Ramses used expanding bullets (designed to produce a larger wound upon impact, thus causing more damage to the living target) so the situation is dire. Flor was shot in the arm which did a great deal of damage to her arteries. Apolo was shot in the liver so his situation is even more critical. Josefa wonders incredulously how Ramses could shoot his own brother! Gael asks about his father so David replies that Ramses and Columba were taken by the police to a maximum-security prison. Gael is glad that Ramses and Columba will get what they deserve; all the pain Ramses caused will not go unpunished.
Diana
These words are barely uttered when several gurneys containing bloodied police officers rush by. The group realizes immediately that something else terrible has occurred. They ask the officer with blood streaming down his face what happened. He tells them while they and Interpol were transporting Ramses and Columba to prison, they were intercepted by a commando and attacked! Many of his men were killed and Ramses and Columba were taken. When Gael asks if it was his father’s men, the policeman isn’t sure, several men were captured and several others were killed in the shootout. All roads en route to the border have been closed. David can’t believe Ramses is free again as a rattled Leona questions what good all the sacrifice did! No puede ser!! Leona stares stoically, rather hard eyed.
Elsewhere in a dark, dank and leaky roofed warehouse, Columba and Ramses are securely tied up in back-to-back chairs. Calixto tells Ramses this is how he wants to see him, under his control. He reminds Ramses that he treated him like a slave and branded him as if he were an animal! Things have changed and now, Ramses will be the humiliated one. Calixto rips the tape from Ramses’ mouth only to have him laugh mockingly that no matter how much Calixto tries, he will never be humiliated! He has withstood torture from far more powerful people than Calixto. Calixto takes his hand caressing Columba’s face. Calixto tells him that his reign has ended and now Calixto is his owner. Both of them now belong to him and their lives will depend on him. With his back to Calixto, a flicker of uncertainty shadows Ramses’ expression.
It appears Apolo is coding.
Clara tucks Lili in reassuring her. They will be getting good news about her mother soon.
Jacinta, Matias and Danilo arrive. Camila teases Matias about being so close to Jacinta. Matias tells her they are good friends but Danilo thinks they are more than friends! Camila asks to stay until David returns to make sure everything went well.
Lola is videotaping her last video (as she will no longer be making them). She wears a red fishnet top and as she saucily plays with her bra strap, Clara bursts in and grabs her by the ear. She asks who she is recording herself for! Jacinta runs in asking if Calixto is making her do this! Lola says all the young girls are doing this. We see Camila and Matias exchange glances.
Diana
David calls Jacinta saying many things have happened. She asks how Flor is and she gets more and more agitated as he hesitates.
Calixto tells Ramses that he has made contacts and formed alliances for many years. He will not only be Ramses’ competition he may just put him out of business. Ramses laughs and scoffs that Calixto will never be successful…he has never had any good ideas. Wormtongue Jeremias appears and rips the tape from Columba’s mouth who tells him she is pregnant and not be stupid and let them go. Ramses tells Calixto to be direct and tell him what he wants. Calixto tells him he wants the power. Ramses tells him he will never get what he wants because he is just a copycat. He challenges Calixto to prove that he is a worthy rival.
AnaJu and Camila are at Consuelo’s as Camila’s phone rings. She hears Apolo is in the hospital, close to dying. The camera pans the room to show Consuelo, Cristobal and her children, all impactada.
Josefa is at Apolo’s bedside. She sobs inconsolably crying that he gave her hope again and can’t stand the thought it will be taken away. She begs he fight for his life, leaning over and giving him a kiss in very slow motion. Apolo has a dream where he tells Josefa clad in a white dress in front of a huge crucifix that he wants to dance with her eternally. She cries he not leave her and vows she will never stop loving him. She strokes his head and her pleas echo as she puts her head on his chest, begging him not to die. CPR is administered, but the chest compressions aren’t working and he flatlines.
Back to the abducted ones, Ramses tells Calixto he doesn’t have what it takes to torture someone. Calixto points out that Ramses is ruined. Leona now has all the money and is the major stockholder. Ramses retorts he and Leona are his biggest traitors. Calixto jeers that Marena and Adrian entered his home and tricked him. Ramses spews Calixto is an inferior criminal and challenges him to kill him. If he wants his business, Calixto has to take it. Calixto tells him he doesn’t want his business; he just wants Ramses to suffer. In that vein, what does he think about AnaJu being sold?
Leona brings Gael coffee as he says that things are intolerable. He rues that Apolo was a good man willing to do anything to seek justice. Leona tells him Apolo did what he could to protect them. Tears stream down her face as she says she can’t look Josefa in the eye as she feels responsible for everything. She shares that Apolo asked her to tell Josefa he loved her.
Diana
Calixto has clearly hit a nerve as Ramses tells him to leave AnaJu out of it. Calixto should have the guts to come after him. Calixto points out that he can get a lot of money for AnaJu. Ramses warns him that if he messes with AnaJu, Ramses will have no mercy on him. Ramses threatens that he will pull his fingers off one by one…and he does follow through with his threats! Calixto grabs and breaks a chair. Ramses calls him a perro demanding he leave AnaJu alone or Lola will go down when he least expects it. Calixto pulls his gun and puts it a few inches from Ramses forehead. All this time Columba stares at Calixto with a slight upturn of her lips. Ramses tells him to stop his little theatrics and let them go so he can ensure that he and his lover live. He has associates who will hurt Lola if Ramses doesn’t call them at a certain time. Calixto tells Ramses to swear that he or Lola won’t be touched. Ramses swears as long as AnaJu is safe and sound.
Clara prays as Lola stands indifferently, asking if she really thinks the saints hear her. Clara wishes she would be different! Your sister is in the hospital and you can’t even pray for her Clara admonishes. Instead, you make those videos for that man Calixto! Lola tells her the videos are for men who give her money to admire her body. With that, Clara gives her a well-deserved slap. She asks how she can prostitute her body but Lola denies it’s prostitution. When Lola says that she is leaving the house, Clara tells her she will not allow her to leave.
Jacinta and Leona comfort each other in the hospital corridor.
An ashen faced Josefa emerges sobbing that Apolo died. They had so many plans, he should not have left her. She is held up in a loving embrace, flanked by Matias and Gael as she wails. Matias tells her Apolo knew how much she loved him. Josefa asks if “he” killed him. Leona shakes her head in disbelief and leaves.
Josefa is comforted by her sons as Jacinta clutches her throat. David offers his condolences to Leona and shares her grief. Leona tells him she will no longer be Leona; she should never have turned into Leona. She feels terribly guilty about Apolo who steadfastly supported her. David tells her not to feel guilty; she was brave in facing Ramses, but Leona cries that it was futile since Ramses escaped and now a good man is dead. David points out that Ramses killed him…and he would have done it now or later because he had threatened to keep Apolo and Josefa from being together – and happy. What hurts Leona the most is that Josefa warmed her (as she flashes back to their talk) and now her children will also suffer. It seems that evil is still pursuing them. David assures her that evil can’t win. They need to be Marena and Adrian again…and not give up. Leona nods that it is the only way to get her children back and for the lost lives to make some sort of sense. David suggests that they continue the fight…out of love.
Diana
Calixto tells Ramses they shouldn’t forget that they are not in prison thanks to him…and tells Columba that she should name the baby after him. Ramses tells Calixto that he will allow him to proceed with his business so he can fail. Calixto reminds them that the cops are after them. Ramses is untied although if Columba was untied as well, we did not see it. It appears something is being poured on the floor.
Jacinta is sitting on Flor’s hospital bed, her arm in a sling. Jacinta reminds Flor that thanks to God and all the saints, she survived. Jacinta delivers the bad news that Apolo died. Then, there is a knock on the door and Flor’s department enter clapping for the bravest of them all. Flor is presented with a huge bouquet of flowers and given the news that Ramses and Columba are fugitives.
Leona rounds the hospital corridor as Benja and AnaJu appear. Leona runs toward them and envelops them in a hug. Thank you; she tells them they are all she needed at this moment. She apologizes for hugging them but Benja tells her she doesn’t need their permission to hug them. AnaJu tells her they are glad she is okay. Leona cries that in seeing them, she is getting her strength back. She wasn’t able to obtain the justice she wanted, but most importantly, she hasn’t been able to get back what she loves the most…them.
The elevator door opens and Camila and David alight. Camila is very upset, crying that she doesn’t know how to console her mother. After Leona tells Camila how truly sorry she is, Camila tells her that her plan was wrong. What is she going to do? Turn back time to get her uncle back…how is she going to fix what she has done to her mother?
Diana
All thanks to the wonderful Rgv Chick for the incredible dialog translations and important information she so graciously shared with me!
Alas, my Part 5 has disappeared and I will ask her to fish it out of the cosmos and repost tomorrow.
Too tired to comment further; more tomorrow!
Diana
Great recap! Losing Apolo is hard, he was one of the greatest characters. Why did it have to take a death for Leona to think about how her revenge plans are affecting evrryone??
I feel very sorry for Josefa. She's a strong woman, she'll be fine in the end but still.. losing the man you already lost once before. Ay ay ay, I can feel the hurt.
I love Gael being a protective dad. I'd like him to be even more involved with the kids from now on. Leona needs to take a break from being the lioness and Gael needs to step forward.
I dont think Calixto has any power over Ramses. Ramses is the big bad of this show, he will find a way to get back at him.
It is a surprisingly very high-quality novela. The producer, Silvia Cano, is new for Univision, and she and her crew have done great work at bringing this Mexican adaptation of a Turkish original to life.
Being an afternoon telenovela, the focus here is much more on character development than on blood-and-guts plot action (no child tortures or rapes, except perhaps of the psychological kind and of that there are plenty!), but it has been consistently enthralling for its audience here in Mexico.
I really think that if a lot of people here were to give it a chance, they would really enjoy it. The characters really stick with you (Urban Anthropologist, at least, absolutely must watch it, because there can be no greater and more twisted addition to her "Toxic Mothers" list than the great Ana Bertha Espin's "Irma" in this show")
I look forward to hopefully (for me) revisiting this one with you all as you watch it. I can never comment on the novelas you all are watching, because you are watching them after I have and I do not want to reveal spoilers, but I always enjoy following along. Even my husband doess too sometimes! For non-Mexican people- you all really know your telenovelas and it is a nice community to visit.
Thank you.
Gladys and husband Luis David
Rgv Chick restored my Part 5 (naturally the most important part) in the middle of the night! Thank you amiga!
This was a very difficult episode. I agree Lurker, losing Apolo was indeed "very difficult". And I have a sinking sensation there is more to come.
Gael is a wonderful father! Now I'd like to see him have the opportunity to be a wonderful husband as well! :) Time for a little role reversal - let Gael go out and slay the dragons and let Leona be the fierce protective mother bear she yearns to be.
I was shocked Calixto let Ramses go! More angst tonight I'm sure.
Diana
Good morning Gladys and Luis David! So nice to see your comment.
I am glad you are enjoying this!
I only saw the last half hour of the two hour airing last night. I like Alejandra and Marcus the leads and of course Diana Bracho is amazing. I enjoyed what I saw. The problem is that this is airing for two hours every night this week (except for Wednesday). For me, watching and helping to recap Amor is more than enough and watching two additional hours is too much. I don't know if anyone will wish to or be able to recap. But perhaps folks will comment; I just don't know.
Please continue to post when you can!
Diana
Dear Diana and Chickie, Thank you so much for that wonderful account that included every detail. What a great read to wake up to.
I am getting more and more frustrated with large and in charge Leona .Did she think it would be easy to bring down Ramses ? Did she think nobody would get hurt?
David has become her constant shadow always hovering around her. Puppy dog Dave, indeed.
I am watching how the dynamic in this love triangle keeps changing. Gael was left at home during this illfated raid , while David , of course, was right there trying to protect Leona ( no gun , no Kevlar vest or other SWAT gear....just those EMT skills) ). Also, I found it very odd that when Gael arrived at the hospital , he saw David hugging Leona , but he never touched sent to them. He never touched Leona .I know he was comforting his grieving mother, but you would think he would immediately want to embrace the love of his life after that chaotic, dangerous operation went south. Leona never went to Gael or Jo. What? She just stayed with David looking shocked that her plan didn't work out.
I don't know what the writers are up to , but I am disappointed in what is happening .
Daniel was bringing it in his scene with Kika at the police station. The writers seem to be letting him be a hero for his children , but not for his wife. I was wondering how long ago Romeo raped Kika, so now we no it was a few days ago.
Leona has now become the ice queen. Her manner toward Gael has changed since Gael found out that she was Mar . She no longer has to pretend to love him. Have they even slept together? Gael seems to think everything is okay , but why didn't he go to her in the hospital. When tragedy happens , the one you rush to first is your soulmate. You need that reassuring , loving embrace to survive the tragedy. What's happening ? This can of worms has been completely opened now that everyone knows that Leona is Mar and David is Adrian. David seems to be getting himself into position to block Gael from Leona now that he revealed her true identity to Gael .
Hi, Gladys and Luis David , I watched last night , and I will continue to watch. Great cast .
Diana, terrific work. The Bible quotation is so fitting of Apolo. Rgv Chick, all the translations I sorely needed. This was a sad, depressing episode, but you both supplied everything I needed.
I’m shocked by Apolo's early death. But honestly Ramses could have done this at any time. Leona is devastated, as she should be, but this was a plan with Interpol, SWAT, and local police. Leona wasn't a loose cannon acting half-cocked (except for that "I am Marena!" speech). The person responsible for Apolo's death is Ramses. Camila, for all your (understandable) pain and outrage, remember it's your father that murdered your uncle.
One sickening thing after another. How in the heck do Dumb and Dumber [thanks, Weirdo] have a team that overcomes SWAT? How does Columba, after trafficking young girls, have the nerve to boohoo "I'm pregnant, don't hurt me"? Camila cozying up to Clara? Mujer, be a woman and fight for David on your own.
Lola getting caught making her "sexy" broadcast was welcome comic relief. I hope Clara's and Jacinta's outbursts got broadcast too.
Susan, interestingly Gael and Leona's relationship got put on the backburner. Maybe after this, they will bond more to comfort the kids and each other. I would like Gael to show more smarts. He is (naturally) emotional in protecting Kika, but there's no evidence against Romeo so I'd like to see Gael do something concrete to sink him.
Thank you for your kind words Susan.
"David has become her constant shadow" could not be more fitting. He has literally and figurtively become Leona's personal Radar (think MASH), insinuating himself in every scenario. I think the only possible solution is what I mentioned earlier. Gael needs to step up and into the fray, replacing Leona. She needs to focus her attention on her children and keep them safe. Let David be Robin to Gael's Batman.
I was so intent on Gael comforting his mother, I wasn't focusing in on the fact Gael didn't rush to Leona. Or she to him. You raise an excellent point. It seems they are floating even further away from each other if that is even possible.
With Ramses back on the streets and wildcard Calixto still on the loose, there is no time to take a breath. I fear any hope of rekindling their romance is still on the back burner.
Diana
I did watch this and will continue. I think that Diana Bracho can easily be the reigning queen of toxic mothers. However, after recapping the entire previous novela I can't take this one on for more than comments. I need to go on recap hiatus because that was taking almost six hours a day. I didn't have the time or energy to watch Invincible or do much of anything.
I am not familiar with original Turkish dizis, but I know that they frequently end tragically. This series seems to have a split personality; we start out with a silly meet-cute of the two leads and the opening episode ends with the hero getting stabbed in the back by a madman who stalks the heroine.
It bears some resemblance to Los Ricos Tambien Lloran with the Rich Guy who falls for the Poor Girl who alas is unpolished and regarded as trashy by his snob of a mother. I have to wonder how writers continue to make the female protagonist is these scenarios the ones who still need to do Pygmalion jobs on themselves when male ones in the same situations have already done so.
Double episodes all week? Yikes. I hope this doesn't screw up the numbering by Univision.
Niecie, thank you for your lovely comment. I see you also alluded to Gael and Leona's relationship being relegated to the backburner. Great minds... :)
"How in the heck do Dumb and Dumber [thanks, Weirdo] have a team that overcomes SWAT? How does Columba, after trafficking young girls, have the nerve to boohoo "I'm pregnant, don't hurt me"?" was perfect and describes those events perfectly. Calixto's conceiving of and moreover actually succeeding to stage the Terminator like siege defies understanding.
While I share your shock that Apolo died now, in hindsight his death always was inevitable.
Camila needs allies and it was cunning of her to bring Clara, ripe for the taking, into her orbit.
Diana
Thanks, Diana and RGVChick for the amazing recap and dialogue!
I'm disappointed about Apolo's death! I thought they would end up together with Josefa.
I like Leona less and less. The operation failed, Apolo died, her kids are in danger and she realised she's risking other people's lives NOW? "Better late than never" is so NOT applicable here!
I want to see Romeo end up in prison. But the rape will be harder to prove since some days have passed. Ugh!
As for Eternamente Amándonos, I didn't watch the Gran Estreño. Juego de Mentiras on Telemundo just finished and I'm still burned out of following and recapping two novelas at once. The all-week double episodes don't help either.
Univisión numbered Mujer's episodes inconsistently? Really now? I re-read what RGVChick said: "Episode #s will be discontinued for this TN due to inconsistent numbering by Univision!!" At first I read it as "EpisodeS". Oops. Sorry if I caused some confusion, Susan and others.
Thanks, Diana and Rgv Chick, for the excellent recap. Had a few crazy twists in this episode. Not sure why Calexto is letting Ramses free. And both threatening to sell the teenagers!
I like Camila less and less. And now that she’s fast friends with Clara she really is unlikable.
David seems to still be pretty crazy about Leona. Gael and Leona had no interaction for the last two episodes. Are the writers ending that relationship!
I never thought Apolo would die. I saw him as the one to bring Ramses down! I feel so bad for Josefa. I now wonder, after reading the eternity words, if Josefa will also die. They had their whole future planned and I can’t imagine Josefa just living for her adult children. But I am glad Fern lived.
I hope to see more of the likable characters in these last weeks.
Liz
Thanks so much Weirdo!
Initially, I thought Josefa and Apolo might be the real love story here but sadly it was not to be.
"The operation failed, Apolo died, her kids are in danger and she realised she's risking other people's lives NOW? "Better late than never" is so NOT applicable here!" Your wise words said it all Weirdo...
Just my feeling but I'm not worried about if Romeo will receive his just reward. I'm just not sure when. I sense a personalized anvil is floating high in the sky ready to descend at a moment's notice. And deservedly so.
Diana
Thanks so much Liz!
I think Calixto only let Ramses go as he is afraid for Lola. How stupid to say he was considering selling AnaJu. Did he not think Ramses would immediately retaliate??
"David seems to still be pretty crazy about Leona. Gael and Leona had no interaction for the last two episodes. Are the writers ending that relationship!" Astute observations. I completely agree that David is still besotted with Leona, despite his "intentions" to pursue a relationship with Camila. As far as Leona and Gael go, I honestly have no idea what will happen at this point!! Lovelorn Gael seems to be alone in their relationship. At least for now.
Diana
David is on my last nerve. He's that chemistry lab partner whom you once told that you liked his shirt , and then he just keeps buzzing around you..everywhere, all time, and you didn't like his shirt that much. You just wanted him to work the Bunsen Burner. I should like him\want him because he is the constant rescuer, faithful friend, and the source of unconditional love, and in real life, I would , but sometimes you are just drawn to that guy who got detention hall for using the Bunsen burner in unsafe ways .....and mostly because Gael is..........Gael.
I was stunned that the writers killed off Apollo after all the years that he and Jo were apart. ("Make haste; the golden moments fly." Longfellow) I saw this actor on " La Fea mas Bella" with shoulder length hair. Muy guaypo.
By the way, will we ever find out what is in the box that Ramses sent ...and the one that Apollo actually sent ? Also, what is happening with that stuff that Col wants the servant to put into the food? And , what is happening to Ramses because of the pills that Cal switched ?
Susan, I like your assessment of David who is more of an annoying buzzing fly than butterfly at the moment.
Loved "Make haste; the golden moments fly".
I'm sure the poison is going to rear its ugly head in the next episode or two. I'm looking forward to seeing what is in the box as well. Great point about the pill switch, there is so much going on I had forgotten about that for the moment.
Diana
A review from the couch . . . LOL
I, too, watched last night and although it was impressive and entertaining, it has shown at least 95 episodes in Mexico with no mention of a gran final in sight. Will it end at 120? 130? That might prove too long to keep my interest these days. Also, double episodes this whole week?????? might do me in sooner rather than later. I have said it before and I will say it again, that is a lot for Univision to ask of its viewers. More episodes is not better viewing.
As for Diana Bracho (Martina), “La Monarca de Morelia,” it looks like she might be on her way to her own “Catalina Creel-ish” role (“Cuna de lobos” where she played the victim). She was an annoying but principled mother-in-law with a spine of steel in “Mi marido tiene familia” but she has been truly threatening in this one from the get go.
Marcus Ornellas is perfect as the easy breezy wealthy Rogelio, Martina’s first-born and favorite of her four sons. He has no problem romancing Paula and getting her to marry him in record time.
Alejandra Robles is also spot on as Paula the romantic “stars in her eyes” working class ingenue who meets and marries her newly found love and readily agreeing to move into her mother-in-law’s home in Morelia in spite of having been threatened by Martina already. What could possibly go wrong?
It was good to see Valentina Buzurro again.
Too bad Oscar could not have turned out to be the “village idiot” and not a psycho because I have the feeling that Paula is going to need all the help she can get.
The first two episodes could have been called “coincidences are us” and there were a few “Hallmark moments” but those aspects did not detract from the story. However, in real life, Morelia is not a suburb of Mexico City. It is about 186 miles away. A minor point but irritating as people seem to magically traverse the distance without a plane in sight.
The message of this novela so far could be: do a good deed and buy a coffee for that cute guy in line if he has forgotten his wallet. Your good deed could be repaid with a marriage proposal!
Urban, I will comment if I continue to watch but that is a big ? for me.
Diana, thank you for taking the time to give us all the drama blow by blow. I so enjoyed reading your recap this morning.
First of all, there was an important PSA for rape victims. IF a victim wants to see their rapist charged, they need to contact the police ASAP. Nobody cares how the victim feels/felt in the court of law. They only care about evidence. This message is never repeated enough
Another action filled episode. You never can guess what is going to happen with these twisty characters. I like that element of surprise. With the villains still on the loose and Apolo’s death, Leona’s mission is ringing very hollow at this time. Considering that Ana Ju and Benjamín were well-cared for and loved before her arrival, what was to be gained for them with her plan for revenge? Just the knowledge that she is their birth mother? Sort of selfish, isn’t it?
Geez...just typing in that title is going to be a challenge for me.
Jarifa, always love your " couch notes." I like the cast. Interesting to watch Diana back in her old villain shoes again is fun. I'm in.
I am devoted to " Invencible" , one of the best novelas I have seen in a long time , but it will end soon. I also think the other new novela might be interesting.
I watched this last night and enjoyed it. I like that it shouldn’t be one with a lot of killings, just a mother-in-law trying to scare off her daughter-in-law. I’m not fond of the double episodes and over 100 episodes. I’ll watch for a while and see if I want that long an investment!
Liz
Is Tierra de Esperanza going to replace El Amor Invencible in the 9PM time slot?
Jarifa, lioness Leona looked shaken and stirred and devastated last night. I guess she has suddenly realized that her revenge plan isn't working as smoothly as she thought it would . Remember when we first learned of her plan ....1) marry Gael. At that point , we were watching David lurking and fretting as Gael gazed at her while wining and dining and dancing and kissing her , and Leona gazed back at him and accepted his kisses while smirking into the camera as soon as he turned his back. Now she no longer has to play games with him. I thought that the confessions and the 180 kiss on the rooftop was going to mean that Leona was ready to forgive abd accept Gael into her revenge schemes , but will she fall in love with adult Gael? It hasn't looked promising in the last few episodes . Gael loved Mar and whatever is left of Mar in Leona. However, it seems that there isnt much left of Mar after the trauma she lived through . One never gets over certain events in life . Perhaps, Leona is just too damaged . What's next ? Is she going to keep trying to take down Ramses, or has she decided that protecting her kids And others in her orbit is more important. She seems to feel guilty about Apollo and close to Jo. She doesn't appear to be thinking of Gael at all. During that phone call, she only talked about being committed to Kika and Oliver. I don't think Gael is on her mind .In the meantime, Gael sits waiting and trying to be a good father and son , but on the sidelines. Will the writers ever take him off the bench? + ( I go to a lot of high school baseball, soccer, and volleyball games and know MVPers as,well as second stringers .) Come on writers, get Gael into the game instead of just making him hold everyone's hand and be their cheerleader. He did get to unleash his Hulk personna on Romeo and once on Ramses on that hunting trip . Will the writers turn Gael's Clark Kent turn into Superman at some point? Diana, i like your idea of David as Robin ( second billing ) to Gael's Batman.
I thought that Apollo was going to turn out to be Gael's bio father , but I guess not . Gael certainly resembles Apollo more than Ram.
Gladys and Luis David, thanks for the lowdown. Great to know there's no child torture or rape. I am looking for something light. I saw the last couple of minutes, and I'm glad the couple has gone and gotten married already. Diana Bracho has done 'good' villains, so I hope this role gives her something to bite into.
Jarifa, pleasant surprise to see your review from the couch. Much appreciated, as I missed most of the premiere. I plan to watch at least some of today's epi, so thanks for the key points to get me started. ITA it's loco for Uni to start off running two hours each day.
Susan, ITA with your “Perhaps, Leona is just too damaged.” and has been for the whole novela. : (
15 years of planing down the drain.
Poor Leona / Marena. So blind with vengeance.
Apolo and Josefa deserved second chance.
Jarifa, thank you for your always supportive comments!
"Nobody cares how the victim feels/felt in the court of law. They only care about evidence. This message is never repeated enough" captured that message to perfection.
Like you, I never know what will happen! Impossible to guess for the most part.
Susan, I agree that your insightful "Perhaps, Leona is just too damaged" may well be right and as Jarifa added "has been for the whole novela".
Diana
Weirdo, nobody has said it is replacing “Invencible” but it seems that there is really is no place else for it to go. There is something about those rancho novelas!
Susan, I'm agreeing that the TN name is going to be a challenge for me to type too!
Liz, I'm relieved that thus far, there is "only" a vicious MIL for the leading lady to contend with.
Jarifa, I also enjoyed seeing Valentina Buzzurro again! She looked lovely last night didn't she? Watching Fidel, he looked somewhat familiar. To my great shock, he is played by Alfredo Gatica looking nothing like the murderous, seedy characters he usually plays! Seeing so little of the story, I really have no idea who almost everyone is. Lots of bros it seems. Shades of La Herencia...
Niecie, I'm planning on dropping in for a bit tonight.
Diana
Weirdo, Uni is advertising Tierra de Esperanza coming Muy Pronto (interesting they still don't give a debut date). I am going to assume it is replacing Amor...
I have never seen the lead actress and I like Andres, the galan.
Diana
Urban, I can well believe you spent six hours a day on your incredible Perdonna recaps. You and Jarifa are among a handful of elite who marvelously recapped a TN by yourselves.
I cannot thank you enough for everything you did to provide your exceptional recaps.
You certainly deserve a break!
Diana
That having been said by me however, I must comment on something I mentioned before- in this telenovela, the focus is more on character development and maturity or regression than it is on an overall plot. Who and what you see now may or may not be who they are two months of capitulos from now. This has been what has made it interesting for us here. At present, we are at capitulo 97 out of 120. My husband and I and our neighbors still enjoy it very much. Again, this new producer, Silvia Cano, had done a very good job and I will definitely look forward to her next project.
I hope you all enjoy the novela!
Gladys (Luis David is at work, and did not appreciate me signing for him. I guess this web page is a "guilty pleasure" for him! :)
I didn’t watch last night but I might check it out. You definitely peaked my interest Gladys! Also, as the show continues and with practice, you might find that it is easier than you think to comment without using spoilers. As certain episodes happen the discussion will remind you of what you thought or felt when you first watch it and you can comment your thoughts and feelings, suspicions, etc, even if you now know differently- just don’t add the info about now knowing you were right or wrong! ;) It can be very fun to re-experience and discuss you just have to be careful with wording and like I said, it would get easier with practice.
I am also interested in checking out Tierra de Esperanza, I have seen the lead actress in several roles and I am a fan! I think you will really like her Diana. Can’t take on recapping right now but I am in for commenting on either or both shows. Assuming I can make it through a week of 2 hours for this one! Lol
Gladys , dont leave us!....Just be careful about what you write. I got a giggle out of Caray caray being your husband's guilty pleasure and his not being happy about you mentioning his name here. Telenovelas are my guilty pleasure. We all need a guilty pleasure , and novelas and Caray caray are a lot better than some other guilty pleasures .Caray caray is a very nice, welcoming community.
Thank you, Diana, for your retelling of a sad, frustrating episode.
Apolo dying is maddening, but this only means that more deaths are coming, not necesarrily the bad guys. I feel like Ramses will turn the tables on Calixto soon enough and will give himself the great pleasure of torturing him to death... literally.
Leona and Gael are such a letdown and yes, 1000 times yes to David being like the annoying fly on the wall, that just won't go away.
Maybe the writers were afraid that if they allow Leona to fall for Gael again, she will be less of a modern heroine, the woman who can never go past a big betrayal like Gael's. The thing is we're not watching novelas for realism, but for romance, they should have made Gael less appealing if they didn't want us to root for him.
Or maybe this is all Daniel Elbittar being handsome without even trying.
Adriana..... bingo ...I think that the writers didn't count on Daniel pouring on the effortless charm with his signature moves of loving and fighting . He has turned the Gael character into something that wasn't scripted . TPTB evidently never saw his galan roles for Venevision . They were fooled by how well he played that demented devil Pedro on Herencia. I think he changed the perception of Gael in viewers ' eyes in his delivery of lines and body language .
Adriana, thank you...
I agree that Ramses will certainly try and see Calixto has a terrible and painful ending.
"The thing is we're not watching novelas for realism, but for romance, they should have made Gael less appealing if they didn't want us to root for him". Oh so true! If only you had been able to convey that to the writers before everything went off the rails.
I'm with you and Susan. Daniel is smoking hot and impossible to ignore...
Diana
Hello, everybody!
I'm so sorry to bail last minute, but I won't be able to post a recap for last night because I got called in at work, I have to do a double shift today.
I was planning on watching and writing a brief synopsis, but then I spent almost an hour on the phone with a sick friend and, well, I ran out of time.
Please feel free to discuss and once again, I'm very sorry.
Diana, if you want I can do today's recap, it's not fair that you got stuck with two shows and I do nothing.
Let me know.
Looks like Paula is now residing in the lioness’s den. Lotsa’ luck especially now with Imelda, the Martina wannabe, soon to be living on the same turf. Geez, Imelda didn’t even care which brother she married.
TRIVIA
Anyway, it hit me last night that Martina nicknamed “La Monarca” (the Monarch) wears a silver butterfly pin (most likely a monarch butterfly) and lives in Morelia the capital of Michoacán. Michoacán just happens to be the place where gazillions of monarch butterflies choose to spend the winter. The state has the Monarch Butterfly Reserve which is now a Unesco World Heritage Site.
Adriana, duty called! Double shifts are very tough so I wish you the best of luck!
No worries on last night's recap.
I had a long meeting last night so to be honest, I was tired and not sure what I remember but I will try and put a few notes up.
No show tonight (due to futbol), but thank you for offering. Have a good day!
Diana
Josefa is inconsolable. She sits on the floor as a mixture of grief and anger are released from her soul. She blames Leona who is in obvious torment herself as to what happened and tries wholeheartedly to apologize.
It appears that Ramses and Columba have taken up temporary residence at Romeo’s. Romeo, fool that he is, stands up to Ramses which by Columba’s small smirk seem to appreciate.
AnaJu and Kika are seemingly growing closer. Kika asks AnaJu to return home. Unfortunately, the chasm between AnaJu and Gael seems to be growing as she is still calling him “Gael” and basically brushing him off. Ouch. Later, she tells Josefa she is going to confront Ramses but Josefa forbids her to do so.
The family gathers for an outside memorial. Josefa leads the service with everyone appropriately and utterly bereft. Suddenly, everyone’s phones ring in unison and lo and behold, it’s Ramses with a personal video, sending his heartfelt sympathies. Hardly. More threats ensue. Josefa is beside herself as Matias hustles Danilo and Oliver away.
Nourishment is always a part of the mourning process and the young chef/houseboy (whose name escapes me) is in the kitchen, measuring out just the “right” amount of poison to sprinkle on the canapes and into the soup. Leona walks through and sees the black container. She makes a comment to him which he answers but she eyes him suspiciously. Later he serves the canapes but Josefa refuses. Comments are made that she needs to keep her strength up so she does accept one. We see Leona take a bite but then put it down. Everyone is served, including the children. How horrible. Later, Leona starts to say something (to Josefa?) about the additional vitamins/supplement whatever malarky he told her it was but then seemed to change her mind shaking her head.
At school, Romeo announces that Lola is a virtual star showing her body to make money. Benja goes and hits Romeo and is held back. Anju looks shocked and Lola is a bit teary eyed. Romeo’s anvil is getting heavier with each passing day.
Calixto and Lola’s “father” show up at Clara’s to retrieve her. Clara tries to keep Lola there but it is clear Lola wants to go. Benja shows up but his voice only adds to Clara’s useless pleas.
Jacinta is at Flor’s bedside comforting her. Then Silvano shows up. Flor tells him kindly that they will only be friends which he seems to accept. Then, Lili is on the phone, Flor sends her love and Lili then sees Silvano on the phone and gives him a warm hola papi. Very sweet.
Said Jacinta admits to Matias that she cares for him!! He is delighted and when he shows up at school, Jacinta leaves her work and they share a warm and loving hug.
Small, incremental progress in the Camila/David and Leona/Gael not quite romances. David is in the middle of a long rather passionate kiss with Camila which Leona sees as she descends the stairs. She looks and goes back up quietly. We didn’t get a good luck at her expression but she didn’t look very upset. Later Gael and Leona console each other, arms around each other. They hold each other intently and gaze into each other’s eyes. There was no kiss but I have a feeling it is not far behind. But then I believe in fairytales, so what do I know??
Ramses calls Josefa at the end but I don’t know what he said/threatened.
Diana
The above is simply from memory.
Please add to what I missed or correct if I got anything wrong.
I feel a spark of hope for Gael and Leona. Not much but a bit!
Diana
Adriana, no worries! We've all had to bail out last minute at least once. Double shift, ouch. I hope it goes as smoothly as possible. Yes, no show today because of fútbol.
Diana, thanks for uploading highlights. I didn't watch so I can't fill in the gaps in Ramsés's phone call, but I might watch later.
Why was Lola teary eyed when Romeo said what she does on the internet? She should have thought of the consequences before doing anything.
I hope no one else dies. We've had enough deaths for the week!
Not that much plot development, mostly dialogue in this one. Around 10 episodes to go!
Jarifa, thanks for the trivia! Very interesting information.
Thank goodness that Leona is suspicious about the powder being added to the food. If anyone falls ill, she will probably remember the powder. Loved how she gave Lino(?) the “lingering” stink eye. Wow!
Romeo might have “outed” Lola at school but she ends up proudly admitting exactly what she was doing on line. Before she leaves the group, she calls Romeo a hypocrite and tells him Ana Ju will never go back to him when she finds out that he was cheating on her with Kika. Kika and Ana Ju hear that. Whoopsie!
Ramsés gives Josefa that stupid breathy call but she knows it is him. He insists that he loves her and killed his brother because he got in his way. He was never going to let them be together because Josefa is HIS alone. She wants to confront him ALONE for what he did to the man she loved. He agrees to it and will send her the info on when she will be picked up. He calls her a traitor.
That is all I had notes on. Hope it helps.
Weirdo, yes Lola seemed to be a bit embarrassed but Jarifa perfectly filled in more of and exactly what transpired during that scene.
Jarifa, thank you so much! Yes, I forgot about the Kika revelation!! Those were important beans that she spilled!
Yes, Leona did indeed give the "lingering stink eye". Perfect description...:)
And how could I forget the Ramses heavy breathing. Oh my heavens. I can't believe Josefa is going to meet him alone!! Hopefully she will come to her senses or at the least, tell someone where she is going.
Diana
Diana, Ramsés is so disgusting. That heavy breathing shtick is something I would expect from Romeo not an old man. ITA that Josefa is not being smart. Will someone end up having to go rescue her now?
Yes, the childish silent breathing smacked of something Romeo would have done!!
Josefa is being unbelievably foolish in agreeing to meet Ramses. If she does need to be rescued, I hope it goes better than previous ones, which have resulted in disaster! ☹
Diana
Yeah, Imelda wasn't looking for love or even just hot sex; she's a gold-digger and status seeker. At least Beatriz had reservations about her marrying into that family.
Based on his other behavior I'm betting that Fernando will be an abusive husband and Mommy Direst Martina will not give a flying damn. If he killed Imelda she'd demand that her other sons dispose of the body. That sound familiar?
Why the hell is Oscar allowed to run around loose? He needs to be locked up and in the giggle jacket.
“That sound familiar? ” Sure does. ; )
The weddings should be fun in their own twisted ways.
I wonder how popular the name "Imelda" is -- or isn't -- based on Imelda Marcos. This made me automatically hate this character.
I know it's been mentioned already, but it's disappointing that they killed Apolo off. I never like teenage romances in telenovelas because they are a cheesiness overload for me most of the time but I really do enjoy watching older people getting achance to start a relationship. Matias and Jasinta are a joy to watch. Did the actor who plays Matias play a galan in a telenovela? So I was really hoping Josefa and Apolo would get another chance, especially given the fact they were separated for so long and also the fact that Leona is a very unappealing heroine so it's hard to care who she ends up with. She doesn't seem to regret the fact she manipulated Gael to make him marry her. It feels that she is somehow still a teen because it somehow didn't occur to her that she was putting people in danger with that whole plan of hers. It felt a bit like those reports on the news where a teenager takes his parents' car without permission and crashes it because of course nothing bad ever happens to teens. I found Leona's attitude extremely odd. She jhas been preparing for this for 15 years and didn't think that once other people got involved, which was inevitable, they'd be in danger? Come on! But as much as she laments it now, the truth is that it's easy for her to talk in all those meaningless phrases because Apolo was really no one for her. For a 'modern woman', Leona is way too prone to making irrational decisions, which I thought was the thing they used to say about women in the 19th century.
It's tragic that Lola doesn't realise what she does is just another kind of prostitution. So it's shameful to live in poverty and have a mother who makes quesadillas, but it's perfectly fine to let strange men see you nacked/ with few clothes on and earn money this way? She doesn't respect herself at all. But I still don't understand how she grew up to be such a girl with no scruples. I can't believe her family hasn't given up trying to convince her to stay. They are amazing.
And I still want an answer as to how Josefa chose Ramses over Apolo? This question bothers me.
Thanks, Diana, for your from memory recap. I enjoyed it. I always get reminded of something I forgot!
I’m glad Leona saw the cook putting the poison in the soup. Even though she was given a good explanation she will get suspicious if, or when, everyone starts getting sick!
Well , now we can be sure the cocky Romeo will not have a good end. He’ll either be captured or killed.
I feel so bad for Josefa. But I feel like Ramses would have killed him eventually. He certainly threatened him enough. He may be trying to kill his whole family!
I am glad Jacinta and Matias are a couple. Flor and Silvano as friends is a start!
Romeo announcing about Lola was a surprise. But someone was bound to come across the video and let everyone know. She really seems to think that’s an ok thing to do!
Liz
Everyone who thinks they have a bad mother-in-law should be forced to watch this show. And I agree Urban, Imelda just wanted to marry into that family. I look forward to her regretting it. I know her parents have reservations about this marriage, they must know Martina well.
I wonder if the staff likes Paula or are just waiting to see how long she’ll last.
Oscar stabbed Rogelio and tries to kidnap Paula at knifepoint and he is freed from jail. Maybe it was bail money.
I look forward to the wedding. I wonder if she’ll really wear that dress!
Liz
Diana and Jarifa, thank you for recaps.
Cher Adriana, so sorry about the double shift. You are a good friend .
I recorded the show and watched it again. I don't know what they are saying , so that let's me concentrate on the body language and visual clues . Here are my stream of conscienceness observations :
I was surprised Romeo opened his door because the last time we saw him open that door , Gael came at him like a rocket and Romeo got pushed ,then pulled ,and then thrown on the f!oor. Also , funny that Col seemed to ask to use the bathroom as soon as she and Ram entered .????I get a kick out of the way both Ram and Cal try to look so mucho macho by opening their jackets to reveal guns in their pants . I'd think twice about putting a gun there .
The showdown between tiny but loud Clara and Rico suave Cal and his associate Jerm, her shiftless , idiot son in law was kind of funny. He pushed Benja, the sweetest of the sweet.
It seems that Benjamin and Theo take turns either punching out Roneo or holding the other back from doing so. Itzel is always on the other side doing her tiny best at holding back whichever teen is attempting to punch Romeo.
I thought that Leona gave Alino a suspicious look while he was stirring what looked to be a big pot of water with carrots and green stuff in it . I thought she was going to do that thing where you point your index and middle fingers at your eyes and then at the other person to indicate that they should be careful because " I am watching you. " Then she teetered away on those very high heels ...click click clack .
I was intrigued by her outfit . Everyone was in rather casual black clothes for the memorial service , Even Jo was just wearing a black blouse and slacks. The men in slacks and shirts. Gael had on his omnipresent casusl jacket. However , Leona had on those high heels and a tight, black sheath dress with a long slit right down the front to her waist. Really ? I was looking at how the chess pieces were set up . Gael was seated right next to Leona with his hands on his knees instead of holding Leona's hand .
When Alino was passing out the poisoned canapes, Gael dutifully handed one to his mama on a napkin and then put one on a Napkin for himself , but they both just held the napkins and never ate the canapes. The only one I actually saw take a bite was Leona, and I thought ...uh oh she is going to tell Gael she has a tummy ache tonight ...so nothing will happen . Do we know how many days? Weeks? Months? Have passed since their wedding ? And Still no consummation????
What did Anaju say to Leona ? She still seems mad at her . Did she say something about being mad that Leona married Gael? I've had it with both Ana and Leona . Basta.
I think that the staff are looking forward to the fireworks. Blanca will probably be the icing on the cake as the sweetheart of Rogelio's youngest brother. Paula is paving the way and doesn't know this yet.
Somehow at the end of the episode, Gael has managed to be alone in a room with Leona , and David hasn't tracked them down and barged in. The visual is a very excited Gael standing behind Leona embracing her and nuzzling her neck. ( To me , he looked a little too excited and wolfy after A funeral . ). I caught a few words " our children " " our love " " producto" "novios " " Espouses " ...so I got the feeling he was campaigning on being REALLY married because their love had produced their wonderful children. Am I right ? He had all the right moves , and he looked hopeful \begging??? as he turned her and gazed into her eyes. Leona let him embrace her and didn't slap him . She put her hand on his cheek , but she was not smiling and gazing at Gael lovingly . I think Gael's hopes are up, but mine aren't . Leona looks tired, lost, somber, and a little out of it .
Ps.I have never seen a standing ovation at a funeral.
Great comments as always.
ITA with waterlily's comment, especially that part: "So it's shameful to live in poverty and have a mother who makes quesadillas, but it's perfectly fine to let strange men see you naked/with few clothes on and earn money this way?" Ikr? It makes no sense.
I think it's too late for a redemption arc for Lola, with the way she treats people who love her. I'd rather see her get an anvil. In that way the writers can send the message that being a complete brat, to put it politely, has its consequences. If they indeed go there, I think it'll be one of the few PSAs they've done right.
Thank you everyone!
Liz, "Well , now we can be sure the cocky Romeo will not have a good end". Yes, I think that is a certainty. "cocky" is the perfect word for him!
"I still want an answer as to how Josefa chose Ramses over Apolo". I do too waterlily but it's appearing as though that is one mystery that will likely not be explained.
Susan, thank you for all you added! "I think Gael's hopes are up, but mine aren't. Leona looks tired, lost, somber and a little out of it" was marvelous. A picture perfect descriiptive of Leona's expression and demeanor. As for the first part, I am still a bit hopeful. Drats, we have to wait til Thursday now!!
Diana
Waterlily and Diana, I think I read in a recap that Apolo traveled a lot and Josefa thought Ramses would be more stable for marriage and kids. Maybe Apolo was more a jet setter type. That was a really bad decision!
Liz
Thanks Liz, you make a very valid point. Since Josefa has recently claimed she's always loved Apolo, I keep thinking there was more to the story? Perhaps you are right and that was the defining factor.
Josefa loves her family and for the most part, I believe her. But most mothers, human, wild and domesticated protect their children with their lives. Her not leaving Ramses when he beat Matias still rankles. How could she not? Such a contrast with Gael who would passionately seek out and dish out the appropriate punishment to anyone who hurt a hair on any of his children's heads.
Diana
When Jo pulled Ram's clothes out of the closet and threw them on the floor, I was hoping that she had a scissors handy to finish the job.
Oddly, I am starting to like Kika more than Anaju. Does Ana know that Romeo raped Kika ? Who knows ? Gael and Col know . Did Kika tell Gael not to tell anyone ?
I think that Flor might end up with the young cop who brought her flowers . He is galan material.
At this point, Jacinta seems to be the happiest character .
I can't believe the way Ram throws a handful of those pills down his throat with no water. He is rubbing his arm a lot . What is in those pills ?
Who will figure out what scared Alino is sprinkling into the family' s food? Will Leona do the math , or is she too knocked down and exhausted from recent events?
Urban, the staff seems way too happy to see the fireworks and maybe even help them along. I really dislike the over worn plot line where the employer’s son romances the maid but never ends up with her so if Blanca and Marco (?) end up together it would be a breath of fresh air.
I watched this last night but my mind kept wandering....It might be easier to focus an one hour episodes I guess. I am not too excited about another evil mother-in-law story but I'm interested in hanging in for the character development angle Gladys was telling us about.
I just saw the actor playing Oscar in Corazon Guerrero where he was playing the most good hearted, cheerful and comedic character so it's a shock to see him violent and crazy here.
I can't comment much more on the plot since I didn't pay much attention but I'll try again tomorrow.
Diana, super highlights. Everybody, I appreciate your additions.
Strange that that powder sprinkled on the food has no taste or texture. I think Leona did suspect the cook, but now after Apolo's death she's doubting herself.
Lola is only 15-16? Do we know if she's still a virgin? So much of what's in her head is built on fantasy and how she thinks the Sexy and Rich live. She needs to see desperate trafficked girls in a dank holding tank like Gael and Leona did
I'm not feeling David and Camila. He's trying, but if Leona wants him he'll come a
running and leave Camila behind. But I do think seeing David and Camila kiss will spur Leona to give Gael a real chance.
Gladys
I could not stop but thinking, though- "Wow. And to think that men think that WOMEN are insecure and neurotic!!!"
(But it is best to keep such thoughts to myself. ;-)
The actress playing Imelda was also a villain in "Contigo Si", which was also the first telenovela featuring Alejandra Robles Gil as protagonista. She was annoying there, but this was also the kind of novela where one of the female villains spends half of the novela wearing a "Phantom In The Opera" mask, while still fulfilling her corporate duties wearing fashionable clothes and high heels.
Anyway, I contribute to some pretty influential bloggers here in Mexico, and they have all told me that this role has changed their opinion of her. The general consensus seems to be that now they can recognize quality in her as an actress now that she is being given actual stuff to work with.
I will agree to this.
Regarding "Tierra de Esperanza"... I am very disappointed in it. It is a remake of a Colombian telenovela that is very much a "guilty pleasure" for a lot of Mexican people my age-"La Tormenta". This was a novela that went on for seemingly a zillion capitulos but never failed to keep the viewers attention.
In addition to your standard telenovela tropes, it had grand, sweeping, dramatic music, as well as black magic, voodoo, incestuous stepmothers, murderous transsexuals that aren't really transsexuals (they were really just a crazy ex-girlfriend), the burning down of mental institutions, and all of the villains met epic deaths by nature (bit by Black Widow spiders, strangled by boa constructors, eaten by crocodiles, etc.).
It was so much fun. I still remember my grandmother- enthralled- holding her rosary and licking her lips involuntarily, her eyes agape, so enthralled was she by some of the action.
Well, this remake is a lot shorter and has eliminated most of this thus far. There is no voodoo or witches or anything supernatural. They have written out the main villain (Isabella), as well as several secondary subplots (one of them the murderous ex who was masquerading as a transexual version of the man she was stalking).
Some of this could be GOOD, of course!
For me, all I will say is that if you enjoyed "La Desalmada", you will probably enjoy this.
Because it is by the same producer who, likewise, took very popular, wild, and crazy telenovelas in their own country ("La chúcara" from Chile became "Vino el amor", as Colombia's "La Dama de Troya" became "La desalmada"), watered them down and simplified them to focus mostly on the romantic angle of the two protagonists.
I think in cases like this, it is best to go in being ignorant, so as to not be disappointed!
But the production levels are stellar, as with "La desalmada", the leading lady is beautiful in her first protagonist role and there is a great supporting cast too (I just wish they were being given more to do...)
We are still early in here though, so maybe things will change. But there is still stuff to enjoy, just not as much as I- or, according to ratings, the Mexican public, thought and were hoping for.
I should go now. It is almost 8 o'clock, so the infernal "La Rosa de Guadeloupe" will be over in a half hour- just enough time for me to get dinner ready. :)
Happy viewing friends!

Susan, I admit, I am starting to feel sorry for Kika. The writers and actor are doing a fantastic job of changing her from a heinous brat to little girl lost. AnaJu needs to lose the hard edge she has developed, especially toward Gael!
Thanks so much Niecie!
Lola seems determined to forge ahead. Yes she "needs to see desperate trafficked girls in a dank holding tank like Gael and Leona did". And I fear that will happen all too quickly. Jacinta just found a few moments of happiness but her heart will be ripped out once she finds out Lola does leave with Calixto.
And what about all the abducted women, the cheerleaders, women from the bar who've been suffering all this time??
Diana
Diana, I can't wait to see how our story unfolds tonight.
The writers seem to have Kika on the path to redemption. She is close to Gael now that she has revealed to him that Romeo raped her ,and he gave the right advice , unlike her awful mother . Gael was calm and loving with Kika during a conversation no father ever wants to have with his daughter . Then , he immediately confronted Romeo and took Kika to the police station . Yay Gael. Now there's a galan .
Maybe the next step is Kika combing her hair. Sorry...it bothers me.
