Thanks, novelera. Hope you enjoyed the Shakespeare Festival.
Interesting theory about Pinar. Forced marriages are ripe for tragedy. It’s clear Ogul took her but not clear why. Not sure if he deliberately killed her. Doesn't really matter. The girl is dead and the family is grieving.
I don’t know if I should feel sorry for Lacin or not. Maybe it’s an abuse syndrome that keeps her tied to Yekta.
In the Turkish, Engin refered to the problem as plural “babalar” – fathers. This could mean more than one father has a problem—Zafer, Metin and/or Yekta. Who knows.
My irritation at the the Erguvans grow with each episode.
I hope to have a short recap up this evening.
Dondi, the festival was terrific. It's called Santa Cruz Shakespeare and has been presenting plays for 40 years. An interesting one was The Book of Will. It takes place 7 years after Shakespeare died. It comes from a true story about how the First Folio was produced. Several actors from his theater group called The Kings Men rounded up copies of 36 plays and had it printed. It's probably true that many of these plays would have been lost, similar to the many Greek plays scholars know existed but did not make it into a time of being printed. Of course the characters in the play have interactions and jokes made up by Lauren Gunderson.
A perk of seeing the play was the presence of the author at one of those post Q&A sessions. She's charming and has a pink streak in her hair.
Eren takes the bullets out of his gun and goes to talk with Fatih in the alley. They fight. Eren calls for backup and Fatih runs before they come.
Pinar’s parents beg Derya for news. The DA can hardly get the words out—"başınız sağolsun” – my condolences. They breakdown.
Ilgaz watches Engin’s video. He takes notes and focuses on the “father of a problem”. Look like it’s beginning to click.
Time for the kids to go to court.
Derya comes to see Pars. We need to find Ogul! We need to ease that poor family’s pain!
On the way to court, Eren feels light headed. He pulls the car over. There’s blood. He didn’t realize Fatih stabbed him during their fight. We see the flashback. He tries to make a call but faints.
Ceylin gives the kids final instructions before seeing the judge. He gives his decision. Everyone is released except for Serdar, he’s to be taken into custody. He starts to plead and calls out to Cinar to back him up. Don’t sell me out!
Serdar calls Yekta asking for his help. Yekta is ready to hang up on him, when Serdar says he’s got valuable information. It’s about Ilgaz’s brother and Ceylin’s father.
Ilgaz tells Ceylin that Engin may have been talking about her father. Ceylin doesn’t want to accept the possibility. She says Engin always used the phrase “the father of”. She gets upset with Ilgaz for scaring her. I know my father will be back! [yes, but in what condition?] She cries, he apologizes.
Metin comes to see Ilgaz. Ilgaz asks if he saw Engin’s video. He saw some of it but couldn’t stand to watch the whole thing. Ilgaz says Engin spoke about a problem concerning Ceylin. He’s talking about her father, something’s wrong with Zafer. [uh oh, Metin] Ilgaz asks for his father’s help.
Metin calls Merdan and says he wants to meet.
Merdan gets some vague bad news from his doctor. Merdan says he only needs 3 months and doesn’t care about the rest. The doctor hopes he can get 3 months.
Tugce can’t reach Eren. She’s worried. She tells Ceylin. She can’t reach him either. They ask Metin if he’s heard from Eren. Meanwhile a stranger finds Eren in his car. He answers Eren’s phone and speaks to Ceylin. Metin takes the phone. Call an ambulance! Ceylin informs Ilgaz and everyone rushes to the scene.
Derya is blasting a cop for not doing enough to find Ogul. Pars show up at her door. She slams it in his face.
Yekta and Cuneyt show up at the courthouse. Yekta has a good feeling something is about to explode. The cross paths with Neva. Yekta is in a good mood, he’s forgiven her. He says, everyone makes mistakes, right Cuneyt? Neva looks at Cuneyt and agrees. Yekta enters the courthouse.
Cuneyt asks Neva if he can see her tonight. She replies, I don’t know.
Derya comes to see Pars. Did you want something, she says, otherwise I’ll think you were spying on me. Yes, I wanted to tell you something, Pars replies, the door was ajar and I didn’t know what to do. Then you slammed the door in my face. It’s something about Serdar’s case and Pinar’s case. Pars is willing hand a case off to her. She says they can work together.
Pars says she’s hard to understand. He never knows what she will do next. On the outside you look unbreakable, he says, but on the inside, you are sensitive. She tells him to use his energy in finding criminals instead of observing coworkers.
Yekta and Cuneyt visit Serdar. Serdar drops the bomb that Yekta was expecting. We see the flashbacks as Serdar recounts seeing and following Zafer and Cinar. He says Zafer was going to kill Cinar, but the opposite happened. We see Serdar standing over the unconscious Zafer and Cinar.
Yekta is ecstatic. Serdar continues the story. Metin covered up the murder. Yekta wants every last detail. Serdar mentions Engin. What does Engin have to do with it, Yekta asks.
We see flashbacks of Engin giving instructions to Serdar. Serdar says he took the body from Metin’s car along with the gun. He buried it in the woods. He tells Yekta to speak with Ozgur, they were together. He knows where the body is. Yekta asks if anyone else knows about this. No.
Neva gives Pars some background on Derya. She lost her husband. He was a reporter in Ankara. It was a great love. Derya was a lawyer, a great lawyer. One day her husband came to pick her up from work. As she came to the car, gunmen approached and killed him in front of her.
Derya couldn’t work for about a year, Neva recounts, they couldn’t find the murderers. Pars asks, did she decide to become a DA after that? Yes, Neva replies, she became very angry. Neva thinks Pars can soften Derya’s heart. Pars doesn’t think so. He gets up to go. She tells him, chocolate eclairs. What? Derya loves them. Where can I find eclairs, Pars grumbles. Neva laughs.
Aylin won’t let Osman into the house. Ziver and Zumrut arrive home. She goes in the house and Ziver comes over and attacks Osman. Aylin listens through the closed door in a frozen state. Gul hears the commotion and rushes out to stop the beating.
Eren is rushed to the operating room. He’s about to bleed out.
Pars asks Ridvan to find info on a reporter from Ankara, Ergan Izgara. He was murdered. Find his file. Ridvan tells Pars about Eren and they head for the hospital.
Merdan calls Metin. He’s been waiting for him. Metin tells him about Eren, we are at the state hospital. He’s coming.
Yekta and Cuneyt go to the glassware shop to find Ozgur. Yekta says a friend told him about some treasure they buried. Ozgur tries to leave. Cuneyt stops him. Ozgur says he doesn’t know who it was they buried. He has no details. Yekta threatens him with the punishment of the law. Show us where the body is or you’ll go to jail.
Tugce listens to everyone discussing what happened to Eren. The cops couldn’t find clues. Tugce says that Fatih and Eren argued at the station. She offers a possibility—maybe my father stabbed him. Ilgaz and Pars leave to investigate.
Metin tells Merdan the body is about to be discovered. Merdan asks if Ilgaz knows something. Metin thinks so. Ilgaz won’t stop investigating. He asks for Merdan’s help. This will affect Cinar. Merdan says this affects his son (Metin) too. Your life and reputation matter. And so does Ilgaz’s career.
Metin says, I may not be able to bring Ceylin’s father back, but I’ll answer her questions. I’m asking for your help for the first time. Merdan is pleased. He will do anything it takes. He says, promise me as a man that you’ll do me a favor, too. One favor. Metin has no choice.
Yekta, Cuneyt and Ozgur go to the spot in the woods. A group of school kids show up. Ozgur says that’s it for him, he brought them to the place. He won’t be back. Yekta says no way. Ozgur will come back at night with them and start digging.
Metin and Merdan continue their uneasy convo on what to do.
Ilgaz and Pars drive. Ilgaz speaks to a cop who says Eren was in a fight after he left the bakery. There’s footage. Ilgaz says send it. Pars grabs the phone from Ilgaz. They ID Fatih. Ilgaz calls for Fatih’s address.
Ilgaz and Pars show up at Fatih’s house and Ozlem answers. Pars searches the rooms, while Ilgaz tells Ozlem what Fatih did. It looks like Fatih might have hit Ozlem too. She has no idea where Fatih is. Maybe the phone store. Ilgaz tells her to call if he comes home.
Pars and Ilgaz go to the phone store. Where’s Fatih? They don’t know and the DAs have them taken to the station. Umut says there’s nothing from Fatih’s phone after he left Eren.
Metin gets word that Eren will be fine.
Big dig in the woods. Ozgur starts to uncover the body and the smell is overwhelming for Yekta and Cuneyt. Yekta says to stop. We need to do this in an organized fashion. Let the hands and legs show, and that’s enough.
Ogul is brought to the station. [Ugh, Yekta is his lawyer?] He states, I didn’t kill anyone. I even came voluntarily. I think Derya shows a picture of him carrying Pinar. He has no answer. Pars enters. Derya shows Ogul a pic of the arrival at the construction site.
Ogul starts to get nervous. Derya says, you killed Pinar at home and took her to the construction site and burned her body. Yekta intervenes. You’re getting this from 2 pictures? Can you confirm that is her? Pars leaves the room and calls for Eren—force of habit. He asks a cop for Ogul’s file.
Eren is awake and he has visitors, Ilcey, Pars, Metin. They make way for Tugce. She apologizes to Eren, thinking this is her fault. I forbid you to blame yourself, he tells her and puts his hand on her cheek, you are a good girl. Eren asks about the suspect. Ilgaz says they’ll find him soon.
Tugce’s phone pings with a message: pick up your phone, it’s your father. She leaves the room to make the call. Why did you do it, she asks angrily, why did you almost kill him? Fatih claims he did it out of love. He was hurt. I had a daughter but it was a lie. What is my sin? I lost everything. The police are looking for me.
Fatih asks Tugce to help him escape. Bring money, don’t tell your mom. I’ll live abroad. You’ll have a new life with your father and forget about me. Will you do one last favor for your father? Where should I take it, she asks. The bus station, I’ll send the exact location. Tugce is plunged into a dilemma. Ilcey come out of the room and they look at Tugce. What will the girl do?
Derya has more in store for Ogul. You own the construction site and there was a necklace that belonged to Pinar. But you still say you didn’t do it. Ogul develops a nervous twitch. Pars comes back. He says Ogul’s older brother who also took the victim, was caught by the police. Good, Derya answers, we’ll talk to him in person.
Pars says to give the man time, he’s not well. He has a young daughter with a heart condition. Ogul looks stricken. Pars continues, he’d think twice before committing a murder. Derya smiles, so you are saying the brothers did it together? Yes, Pars replies, because they were seen together carrying the body. I think the whole family knows.
Yekta interrupts---what’s going on here? Pars says he’s working with Derya. It’s best to be honest about what we think. Yekta questions their “honesty”.
Derya and Pars continue their strategy, ignoring Ogul and Yekta. This makes Ogul increasingly anxious. Pars continues, it’s also possible the family got together to get rid of her. Stop making conjectures, Yekta warns.
Derya tells a cop to go to the house and interrogate the whole family. Ogul speaks out, don’t involve my family! Yekta tells him to stay calm. Defend me, Ogul replies. He turns to Derya and blurts—I did it! I killed her with my own hands!
Tugce meets Fatih at the bus station but it was a set up. Ilgaz drags him away and into a police car. Ceylin is there to comfort Tugce.
Derya is impressed with Pars’ strategy. He congratulates her on catching on quickly. She thanks him for his help. It’s late, Pars says, I’m hungry, shall we get something to eat? Don’t push your luck, Derya replies with a smile and a pat on the arm. She leaves him at a loss. I just invited you for soup, I didn’t propose, he utters.
A couple walk their dog in the woods. The dog gets free and runs straight to the body. Call the cops!
Aylin texts Ceylin. A situation with Parla, we need to talk. Aylin and Parla come to the office. While Parla is out of the room, Aylin gives Ceylin the fake ID and account statement.
A cop tells Metin someone found a body in the woods. It’s outside our jurisdiction, but should we send some guys as a precaution? Metin says no, he will go himself.
Aylin is frantic. A dead body in a trunk. A fake ID and a bank account. Ceylin tells Aylin to go and she will handle it. Aylin reluctantly leaves.
Ceylin questions Parla about laundering money. She asks if others are involved. Is this the money Serdar found? Parla whimpers. Ceylin loses her patience. You’re ruining your life!
Fatih is waiting in Ilgaz’s office. He asks Fatih to start talking. Where do I start, he asks, from my wife’s affair with the komiser that happened when I was in jail? Ilgaz asks Ozge to step out of the room for a moment. Ilgaz pins Fatih against the wall. Give me a statement like a normal person. This is not a coffee shop. You stabbed a cop and tried to kill him! Ilgaz calls Ozge back to resume the statement.
Ceylin tells Parla to call everyone and tell them to come. Cinar, Tugce, Merve. Have them bring their IDs and account statements.
Metin goes to the woods with another cop. Metin says to notify forensics and the DA. Out of earshot from the cop, Metin calls Merdan and says, the corpse is in Belgrade Forest.
Zumrut comes out and confronts Aylin as she arrives home. Congratulations, Aylin, I’m not pregnant anymore. As soon as Ziver found out he took me for an abortion. I begged him not to kill it but he did. I begged him to kick me out but he refused to listen. I had the abortion and it destroyed me.
I felt sorry for you when you lost your son, Zumrut says. I prayed every night for God to ease your pain. They said you were guilty because you left children unattended in the pool. If they died, it was your fault. But I always defended you. I silenced those who pretended to pity you and said behind your back you were guilty. [she left out: and then I slept with your husband.]
Zumrut continues, maybe they were right and I was wrong. Your son died because of you. And my baby died because of you, too! His hands, feet and nose were starting to form. I felt it inside of me. But he’s gone now. All because of your pride. You took my baby from me. You killed them both. I’m leaving, Ziver will send me to my mother. It’s over. And I hope you suffer for what you did. Zumrut walks away. Aylin is affected.
Ceylin sits with the kids. She lays the ground rules. Don’t say you’re sorry, you didn’t do anything, or that you’re innocent. I know you are laundering money. Tell me who you’re connected to. Tell me everything from the beginning. Silence.
Cuneyt brings Neva flowers. I was looking forward to seeing you last night, Cuneyt says, but I had something to do with Yekta. [lol, something to do.] I didn’t call because I wanted to talk to you in person. Neva, I’m really sorry. I behaved like a fool. I was scared when Yekta complained to me. But I never meant to hurt you. Can you forgive me? I promise this will never happen again. She forgives him with a warning never to do it again.
Cuneyt gets a call that the body has been found. He tells Neva it’s an important case and he has to go.
Cuneyt meets Yekta at the courthouse and tells him the body was found and the cops are there. Yekta is pleased things happened quickly and as they planned. Go buy popcorn, he tells Cuneyt, the movie has started. Let’s have some fun.
Ceylin asks about Hatip. He’s into drug trafficking and money laundering, right? Are you idiots? Are you stupid? Do you realize how serious a crime this is? You drove around with a body in the car! If Serdar wasn’t caught, you’d all be in jail! God give me patience! I could kill you all right now! Parla begs for mercy. Don’t tell anyone. Merve, Cinar and Tugce join in. She shuts them up.
Ilgaz is at the crime scene. He asks Metin, who found the body. People walking their dog, they’re being questioned. A cop finds the gun. Metin watches with great trepidation.
And we are out.
Thank you, dondi356.
Good teamwork: Ilgaz and Pars catching Fatih, Derya and Pars working Ogul.
What will Ceylin do with the info about the youngsters? In the past she would hide the evidence.
The "father of a problem" is about to blow up. Can't wait to see what happens next.
Thanks so much, dondi. I wrote a long comment, thought I posted it and then discovered I did not. Gah! I did have notes. It's late and I'll be brief.
Guess we're going to have Serdar around FOREVER! I was so happy when they hauled him away. This is a dizi. I should have guessed he'd squirm out of it somehow.
I was wondering if maybe Merdan got out of jail on compassionate release. I wondered why he was free and don't remember their saying why. Sounds like he doesn't have a lot of time.
I got a kick out of Pars muttering it's soup, not a proposal. This guy gets some great lines.
Good for Tugce, setting up Fatih. He'd only have gone back to beating her mother.
Can a man force a woman to abort in Turkey? Zumrot really gave Aylin what for. And she said she was going to her sister's. What about the child I never saw, but apparently was in a cut scene? Does Zumrot have to give her husband custody?
Not sure how exactly Yekta plans to pin the murder on Cinar. There isn't exactly proof.
Thank you as always, Lucio and novelera, for your valuable comments.
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to provide a recap for Tuesday #49. I apologize. I had too many interruptions during the show, I couldn’t record, and Telemundo did not post the episode right away. I’m at work and can’t watch until tonight.
Two hours are a killer to watch or recap and it doesn’t seem Telemundo is going back to an hour anytime soon.
Hoping the patio can step in and provide highlights for a discussion. This would be a good time for lurkers to drop us a line.
From what I saw, much of the show revolved around the ID of Zafer, Ceylin’s hysterical grief, Metin and Cinar’s feelings of guilt, and Yekta’s treachery. I did see Gul try the “tablecloth trick” at dinner after she found out what happened to Zafer. A dizi staple. Someone put a rat on Derya’s windshield. Pars and Derya are destined to become a thing. Pars let go of his resentments of Ilcey and Eren. I’ll have more comments after I watch the episode.
Quote for Turkish ep #25: "Even within the most beautiful landscape, in trees, under the leaves, the insects are eating each other." – Francis Bacon
Quote for Turkish ep #26: "Opened my breath, my thought, my deep heart. I loved my father the most in my life!" - Can Yücel
Both quotes are fitting for the past few episodes. Again, my apologies.
Dondi, I still have the episode on my DVR. I will do a recap later this afternoon that I am sure will pale in comparison to yours.
Parte 1 de 5
This is going to be very late for you East Coasters. You’re probably already watching the next episode, but here it is.
Ilgaz and Metin are at the site where Zafer’s body was located by a beautiful German Shepherd dog. [I’ve owned two in my life and consider them the BEST dog.] The forensic guy tells them that the body is clothed.
Ceylin continues to interrogate the money launderers/dumb kids. She already has Perla’s card with the false name, as well as the paper showing the deposits. She orders the others to hand them over. She tells everyone except Parla to leave.
There is no ID on the corpse. Ilgaz tells them to take the body to “legal medicine”. He wants photos of the clothing and tells Metin he’ll compare them with the missing person report about Zafer’s clothing.
Pars shows up to Eren’s hospital room with fruit, hiding his kindness with jokes. He lets Eren know that Fatih is locked up.
Metin comes to the police lab and speaks briefly with Goksu. He puts the gun found with the corpse on the counter. Goksu says she needs to get some gloves and leaves the room. He takes the gun that killed Zafer out of the evidence bag using a handkerchief and puts it into his left inside coat pocket. It then appears that he replaced it with one from his right inside coat pocket. My TV didn’t clearly show the gun, only that it was put into the evidence bag. The one he took was covered with mud. He probably should have muddied the other one, but I could not see it clearly. We also see that there’s a security camera in that room. Metin had his back to it, so who knows. He thanks Goksu and leaves, looking devastated.
It looks like Ilgaz has gotten photos of the clothes Zafer was wearing when he was killed. We could see numbers as you’d expect in an exhibit for the police.
During this whole episode Gul was the nicest she’s ever been. Ceylin comes to her mother’s home Aylin, bug-eyed as always, wants to know what Parla is up to. Ceylin tells her to chill; she’s working on it.
Ilgaz tells Metin he read the missing persons file that had a description of what Zafer was wearing; it’s his body. Ilgaz tells Metin that he’ll keep quiet. The boat from Haiti docks tomorrow and she’ll find out then that he’s not on it. However, he hopes that Zafer does get off that boat.
Ilgaz has come to their legal office. When she hears him call out, she hides the stuff she took from the kiddos. She tells him how excited she is to see her father tomorrow. She notices his muddy shoes, and he tells her he was at a crime scene. She doesn’t ask about it. She goes on to tell him that what she’s about to show him will make him angry. [Whew! She’s not hiding it from him.] She says the kids are in big trouble.
Parte 2 de 5
Metin brings the gun to Merdan. It sounds like Metin took the gun at Merdan’s request. Metin tells his father it hurt him to do it. Merdan reminds Metin that he’s also a father. When Metin asks about the other thing his father wanted done, Merdan says they’ll discuss that later. Merdan plans to do “something” about the gun.
Ilgaz is furious about what Cinar did (as is Viewerville). He wants to confront Cinar ASAP. Ceylin (bit of a role reversal here) asks him to slow down. She is sure Parla will be detained about the money laundering, and she wants her to be there to embrace her grandfather when he gets off the boat. She reminds him that she could have hidden this from him but kept her promise. He agrees to wait.
There’s a long scene at the dock. We see a large red boat. It’s snowing. Ceylin, Aylin, Gul, and Parla are there. They talk excitedly among themselves.
Ilgaz calls Pars to set up a meeting in the afternoon. It’s about what Cinar and the others did, but he doesn’t tell Pars that.
Man after man gets off that boat and embraces someone while a sad, lamenting song plays. Ceylin asks someone to look for Zafer’s name on a list. Then she shows them a photo on her phone. Ilgaz has come and stands back a bit. The man, maybe the captain, doesn’t recognize Zafer. They come home in two cars. Ceylin tells the rest she’ll go to the consulate to inquire.
Ilgaz pulls the car to a curb and tells her about the body that was found and about the clothing. She rejects this idea and gets out of the car. He takes her to a room where Zafer’s clothing, still with dried mud on parts of them, is displayed. She begins to cry. Then she becomes hysterical and says she needs to embrace his body. She runs to the morgue area. Ilgaz gently explains that Zafer is now unrecognizable. She describes the shirt she saw as one she bought him. A DNA swab is taken from Ceylin.
The kiddos arrive for the afternoon meeting with Pars. Yekta is with Cuneyt and gives his usual evil chuckle about Cinar having come there scared to death. Yekta thinks he’s come to see Pars about Zafer. Thankfully he doesn’t know about the other thing. Pars tells them to wait until Ilgaz arrives. Cinar calls Ilgaz, who tells him he’s going to have to pay for what he did. But, right now, Ceylin needs him, and he won’t be coming to Pars’ office. Her father died. Cinar looks like a deer in the headlights and then runs into the street sobbing. Metin won’t answer his call.
Metin overhears Ceylin talking to Ilgaz about not being able to smell her father anymore. [Here’s our usual dizi scent of loved ones mention.] She gets into a guilt trip about having eaten, drunk, and slept while her father was in the cold ground. [Nothing seems to come to her mind about said loving father having thrown her clothes in the street recently.] She says she’ll never forgive herself. [For what?]
Cinar comes to see Merdan. He’s as hysterical as Ceylin. He thinks that Metin was the one who buried Zafer.
Yekta comes to the store where the guy who helped dig up Zafer either works or owns. Not sure. Yekta orders him to get close to Cinar. [Later it looks like he only follows, not speaks with him].
The DNA test, of course, proves the genetic connection. [It would have been quite a twist if Gul had a lover and thus no match.]
Parte 3 de 5
Pars and Derya walk to the parking lot. Pars again shows signs of interest. She lets out a shriek. There’s a dead rat on her windshield. Derya pulls out a hankie and takes it off herself. She tells Pars basically no biggie.
The AG tells Pars about the discovery of Zafer’s body. He asks him to take the case since Ilgaz is related by family.
Metin gets a call from Ilgaz about the DNA while at the dinner table. Merdan asks Metin if he’s sure about “something”.
Ilgaz and Ceylin come to her house. Gul is happy to see her son-in-law and tells him they’ll put on an extra plate. Dinner is ready. Ceylin begins to cry. Gul: “Why are you crying?” After what seems like an eternity Ceylin finally spits it out. Gul gets hysterical, yanking on the tablecloth, but she fails at that magic trick. Food flies everywhere. All the women are sobbing with grief.
It’s the day of Zafer’s funeral. Ilgaz comes to pick up his father and Cinar. Cinar is in bed and whines to his brother that funerals remind him of his mother. Ilgaz: “Grow up! It’s our duty to attend the funeral of the father of the woman I love." He also tells the weak branch of the Kaya family tree that he’ll have to make a declaration about the money laundering scheme. Cinar goes to try to appeal to Metin, who tells him that he killed someone. And he, Metin, covered it up. He orders him to get dressed and attend the funeral. [But did Cinar actually kill him? It looked like he just struggled to prevent being shot himself and the gun went off.]
We see the burial. Ilgaz, Cinar, and Osman are some of the pallbearers. I confess I don’t understand Turkish burial customs. A grave has been dug. But we see a bunch of 2x4’s being put inside. Then all the men who attended do some more digging, including Cinar, forced by Metin.
My God! Yekta shows up at the funeral with Cuneyt, who at least looks uncomfortable. Most of the cast file by the family offering condolences. Yekta is at his most despicable, offering fake sympathy to “poor Ceylin”. Then, when Ceylin tells him to go to hell, he rants some about her bad behavior until Lacin finally drags him away.
Derya notices a car following her.
Merdan has paid for some food for the wake (if that’s also what they do in Turkey…gather after a funeral). Metin doesn’t like this.
Ilgaz is going to the police station instead of attending the wake. Aylin thanks him and embraces him.
Pars tells Ilgaz that the victim was shot with two different weapons. One of them punctured a bone. The other was the white cloth he was wrapped in. [Totally don’t get this. Only the cloth was punctured by a second weapon?] There’s some dust on the clothing. Pars said he was shot at quemarropa (burning the clothes – pointblank). Eren thinks maybe Zafer tried to grasp the gun to stop the shooter. Ilgaz says this reinforces the theory that he knew his killer.
Parte 4 de 5
Ceylin has had a meltdown and is inside the closet with her father’s clothes, trying to capture his smell. Gun is a really good mother for the first time in this episode. She listens. She tells Ceylin that her father, of course, forgave her. She comforts Ceylin. Then she tells her that she always had a hard time with Ceylin’s behavior. Then, at last, she convinced herself that this was how God made Ceylin. And she decided to love her as she was. She goes on to tell her daughter that she is the only one who can find the answer to how her father died, just as she did with Inci’s killer.
In a conference room at the police station Metin, Pars, Eren, and Ilgaz begin to work the case. Ceylin arrives and insists she’ll help. Metin shows a video.
The erstwhile gravedigger follows Cinar.
Metin says they’ll go back to the day Zafer disappeared. The cameras never recorded anything near the cemetery where the car was found; they weren’t working properly. A video of Zafer is shown on Metin’s laptop. He’s walking. Metin says he went to an empty warehouse and was inside 10 minutes. Then, 42 minutes later, this person came out. It’s the retired Chief of Police Yavuz.
Cinar gets drunk in that ruined jeep that we once saw Ilgaz brooding in. His little sister (forgot her name) sees him there but doesn’t speak to him.
Metin goes on to explain that Zafer had Yavuz in that abandoned warehouse for 14 days, starting when Inci died. Zafer got him from a bar that night and locked him in. Metin thinks he did it to make Yavuz talk. Ilgaz tells Pars that Yavuz was involved in Zafer’s being accused of smuggling contraband. He incriminated him. Ceylin says that maybe Yavuz might have killed her father to shut him up. Pars suggests they don’t make a scene for the reporters by bringing Yavuz to HQ.
Metin and Eren go to Yavuz’s house and tell him they found Zafer dead. Yavuz comes right along after he hears this.
They bring Yavuz to a kebab restaurant where Pars is waiting. Ceylin insists on coming inside with Ilgaz. Pars tells Eren that she can’t participate, so Eren stays with her while Ilgaz goes to the table with the others. Pars gets right to it. “You were held for 14 days by Zafer Erguvan.” Yavuz nods his head.
Ilgaz asks him why he didn’t go to the police about it. Yavuz gets indignant, and Pars says he’s had it. They tried to preserve his dignity, but now he’s going to the police station to be interviewed.
Eren tells Pars that Yavuz could have denounced Zafer but killed him instead. Pars calls him sabueso Sherlock Eren (bloodhound Sherlock), but also says they need to do this by the book. Eren looks a bit embarrassed but asks Pars if he’ll show him a good men’s clothing store. He’s taking Tugce to school (maybe a new one?) and he wants help choosing a suit to wear for this.
Parte 5 de 5
Yavuz tells Metin to cut the crap. They both know Zafer kidnapped him. They were both (he and Metin) involved in framing him. He says that Metin came to him needing a loan for the medical expenses of his wife. Metin replies that he never expected to pay for this loan by being complicit in something. Yavuz insists on his not having killed Zafer and wants to be let go.
Pars peeks in to check on Derya, who says she’s fine. She also tells him that the autopsy shows that Pinar was strangled. After he goes into the corridor Ridvan tells him that Ozge said that Derya asked to find out the owner of a vehicle with a license plate, the vehicle that was following her. Pars is very worried as he’s sure it’s Ogul’s family.
Yekta’s spy reports to him that Cinar hasn’t done anything bad. He’s just depressed.
Cuneyt calls Yekta, who is in the back of a vehicle (presumably with a new chauffeur). Cuneyt says that Yavuz, a retired police chief, has been taken into custody for suspicion of having killed Zafer Erduvan. Yekta chortles and tells the driver to head to police HQ.
Yavuz tells Metin he was drunk and could not resist when Zafer grabbed him up at the bar. Just then Yekta pokes his ugly head in and says that he needs to speak with “his client” in private. He advises Yavuz not to answer any more questions without him.
Wow! Metin tells Ilgaz, Ceylin, and Eren that Yavuz said this to Zafer: “What is more important…my reputation or your life?” When they ask if he confessed, Metin nods. When asked if he confessed in the actual declaration, Metin says that he’s now rethinking it. He even threatened to harm Metin.
Ceylin has another meltdown. She tells Ilgaz that she can’t even breathe.
Pars questions Yavuz with Yekta present. Yavuz says he went to the hospital after Zafer left. He had a lot of bruises. Pars tells Yekta that Yavuz explained things very well in the car with Jefe Metin. Surely he can inform the rest of them as well.
And…as dondi always says… we are out.
Thank you for stepping in, novelera! Brilliant. Great asides. I missed reading your recaps.
Unbelievable! Metin is making the situation worse by tampering with evidence. I’ll never understand why Metin chose to cover up for Cinar. If Zafer’s death wasn’t a legally clear case of self defense, there were clearly extenuating circumstances. Zafer kidnapped him. Serdar could have testified to that.
Zafer was shot twice? I thought the gun only went off once in the struggle. Does this mean someone else killed him? Still, there’s that nasty coverup.
Now Metin is going to frame Yavuz? Not gonna work.
I wonder if the people following Derya are related to her husband’s case.
ITA, “During this whole episode Gul was the nicest she’s ever been.”
Turkish funerals. They do them quickly according to Muslim custom. I’ve never seen a body buried in a coffin, only a white shroud. The deceased’s head is placed to face Mecca. The men take turns shoveling dirt over the grave. There’s lots of info online if interested.
People usually make halva at the time of a funeral. It’s distributed to those who come to the house. Merdan hired a truck to make lokma. I thought that lokma was distributed after 40 days of a death. But what do I really know about Turkish customs. I suppose there are variations.
Lol, Pars brought Eren cologne and oranges. No flowers because they take up oxygen. Nice he helped Eren with the suit. Liking Pars more and more with each episode.
Eren looks good all cleaned up. I hope things continue to go well for him and Tugce. But they likely won’t because of Ozlem.
I know this is mean, but I found Ceylin unwatchable for most of this episode. She really gets on my nerves. Sort of like Miran did in Hercai. I have no idea why Ilgaz loves her so much.
Thanks again for a great recap, novelera. Lol you borrowed my closing line. I’m flattered.
Thank you, novelera.
I am glad Caylin told Ilgaz about young criminals. Although, she is their counselor and what about attorney-client privilege? Anyway, it is going on the back-burner for now.
Too much crying and guilt.
"Pars tells Ilgaz that the victim was shot with two different weapons." In an alternative translation it said: "The victim received two shots." But either way, two weapons or one, like dondi356 said, we only heard one shot.
Novelera: When can we expect some new Telenovelas on Telemundo to start airing since Summer is basically over ?
