Secrets #32 part 1

Sorry so late.

Ceylin returns to her cell, buries herself in her bunk and has a hissy fit. [Now that’s more like the Ceylin we know]

Cuneyt brings the news that Ceylin attended a shooting range for two years. She even won tournaments. Yekta throws the evidence in front of Lacin. You and your sister were suspicious of me… here you go. She shot him! She took revenge! [Yada, yada, yada]

Lacin has a great comeback. You had an accident years ago. You weren’t found guilty, it wasn’t your fault. Both parents and two children died. You weren’t found guilty of killing them. This stops Yekta in his tracks. He needs a drink.

Lacin continues, Engin said you were guilty but you covered it up. He said you killed that family. She asks, is that true? Yekta turns, approaches her, grabs her arms, and gives her a shake. Shut up! Stop talking nonsense before I lose it! [let’s take that as an affirmative]

Ilgaz goes to the prison. Not sure who he’s meeting with. Anyway, they seem to be on friendly terms. Ilgaz explains Ceylin’s situation, the charges, the trauma, the memory loss. He asks for a favor. Can the psych eval be conducted before the board meeting? It might help her remember. The woman is very accommodating. She will even arrange for a special cell for law officers.

Ceylin gets her belongings. Inmates start grumbling. Does she think she’s better than us? Ceylin unpacks the notebook and in it is a note: “asla vazgeçme…” – never give up.

Eren meets with Ilgaz in a car. [they cut: Ilgaz picked him up from the station and drove off. It looked like someone might have noticed this.] Eren calls Pars ruthless. He set rules and issued a gag order. There’s no backup file. Is that how he’s planning to stop me, Ilgaz asks. Eren replies, he said the AG will launch an investigation. He might fire you. He’s also right, Eren adds, after the show you put on, the AG scolded him. He took his anger out on us.

Eren advises Ilgaz to stop. The entire department is on alert, we will find the culprit. Ilgaz is adamant—Ceylin shouldn’t stay there one more day. She won’t, Eren says, but we need to stay calm. You always tell us to stay calm. Rushing will complicate matters. Eren does have a bit of good news. They didn’t find tissue, blood, or hair samples belonging to Ceylin on the gun’s grip.

Ilgaz concludes she was hit with a different object. Eren says they didn’t find any. Ilgaz remembers Ceylin was wearing a red coat and there was a mark on that coat. Check if it’s Engin’s. Eren says they have her coat and Engin’s belongings are in the crime lab.

Eren goes to the crime lab. He asks for pics of Ceylin’s coat. He asks for pics of Engin’s shoes. He studies the pics. Is the mark on the coat from Engin’s shoes? Eren asks to see the shoes. Eren asks if they have Ceylin’s coat. Yes. And, did you take soil samples from the crime scene? The tech says no. A team will be sent. Sneaky Eren keeps copies of the pics.

Eren rushes back to Ilgaz. The footprint is someone else’s, not Engin’s. Who then? If the soil at the crime scene matches the soil on the coat, that means there is someone else. This changes everything, Ilgaz says. Eren tells him they didn’t take soil samples. Ilgaz is ready to go but Eren says he will take care of it. It’s illegal. Pars was clear. Everything will change if you get involved. Ilgaz can’t sit by and do nothing. Eren tries to reason with him. Sometimes it’s better to take a step back. It will be bad for you and Ceylin if you go. Trust me, I’ll take care of it.

secrets #32 part 2

Lacin tries to sneak into the house, but Yekta is waiting. Where were you? I went to see Seda, she replies. What for? To tell her to stay. You didn’t talk about me, Yekta asks. I only asked her to stay a little longer, Lacin answers. What did she say? I doubt she’ll stay, Lacin says, she’ll go back home. Lacin excuses herself, she’s not feeling well.

Cuneyt calls Yekta with important news. Ilgaz went to the crime scene. Yekta says he shouldn’t have been there. He was searching and he got a copy of the report, Cuneyt says. That’s a crime, Yekta notes, an abuse of authority! I won’t let that happen. He may have contaminated the evidence and the crime scene. Yekta tells Cuneyt to prepare the paperwork, we’ll file a complaint first thing tomorrow. We will also file a criminal complaint! Yekta also wants it leaked to the press.

Metin greets Ilgaz as he comes home. Dinner is ready. Did you see Ceylin? How is she? Ilgaz isn’t hungry and says they’ll talk later. He goes upstairs.

Ceylin is awake in her bunk while everyone else sleeps. She writes. The hospital. The aisle. His whistling, it sounded familiar. A melody I know from somewhere. She tries to remember. There’s a weapon, it’s cold. The weather was cold. There were birds. Pine trees.

She continues writing: Engin is standing in front of me. He tells me not to do it. He’s scared. I’m holding the gun. I pointed it at him, he fell down. I saw Engin falling. Engin was so close, the sound of his heartbeat is near me. I’m in the car and it’s the same song. I’m trapped somewhere. My arm feels numb. We pass the trees.

Next morning, Metin comes to see Ilgaz. Metin notes that Ilgaz has not eaten his dinner. [this was cut, Cinar brought dinner to Ilgaz.] Ilgaz didn’t sleep either. Metin sees the pics of the coat and shoes, etc. Someone’s been leaking information to you, he says. I’ll have to break Eren’s legs. Listen, Pars gave instructions. Unpleasant things took place after the hearing. Metin warns, you’ll ruin your career. I won’t let you do it.

Ilgaz says he doesn’t care. You should, Metin replies, you can’t give up your job. Your mom and I struggled so you could have a career. I worked as a cab driver at night. You’ve served for years. Thanks for your efforts, Dad, Ilgaz says, I’ve tried to do my job well, but the woman I love is in danger. Ilgaz asks his father, didn’t you break the rules yourself? Didn’t you risk career and honor? For the woman you loved, for my mother. So be it.

Wasn’t quite clear on this. Merdan tells Cinar he borrowed Metin’s car and had an accident. The car was totaled. He lost his license because of it. Ilgaz comes out and Cinar asks him if he knew about Grandpa’s accident. Merdan gives the keys to the café to Cinar so he can open. And so Ilgaz finds out about Cinar working for Grandpa.

Merdan asks Ilgaz to walk with him. He will answer any questions.

Ceylin sits next to a woman named Dilek. She heard her talk about her son. He’s 5 months old. Dilek shows a pic. They won’t give me my baby, she says, I ask and they tell me nothing. Ceylin tells her once she leaves the temporary holding, she will get her baby. Dilek is grateful for the info. She hugs Ceylin.

Merdan explains how Cinar was stressed out. I’d rather have him with me than have him leave, he says, I invited him to work with me. Otherwise, he’d be wasting his time. Ilgaz asks when he opened the billiard room [ah so that’s not just a tea house or café.] I owned one before going to prison, Merdan replies. While I was away, my partner took over. When I got out, it took it back. Your father complained but finally agreed.

secrets #32 part 3

Merdan says, I left my past behind and I came to you. Neither you nor your dad want me around. But I came here to be a part of a family and to be with you. I’ll show you the kind of grandpa I am, how much I want to help you and fix my mistakes. [We’ve already seen some of that.] I can see you’re in great pain. Seeing the woman you love suffer is the greatest pain. Let me help you like I helped you get Cinar out of jail. Ilgaz replies, I know that accepting your help will cost me dearly. I’m good. Ilgaz walks away.

Ozlem bursts into Eren’s office. Why do you insist on calling me? You called, we talked. What else do you want from me? I was wondering if you recovered, Eren replies, I’m glad you’re okay. Ozlem is very angry. You came into our lives without warning and screwed it up! I thought about what you said, “I was threatened. If I don’t say it, someone else will.” Enough! Do you think you’ll win over your daughter that way?

Eren says there’s no threat anymore. The man is dead. But we still have a problem. There’s no problem, Ozlem says. Eren asks, should I ignore everything because it’s over? Ozlem says it’s not her problem. Eren says this is reality now. Find a way to tell Tugce and your husband the truth or I’ll hire a lawyer and send a notice to your home. You have two days. Find a way and call me once you’ve done it.

Ceylin sees the psychologist. He doesn’t even look at her when she comes in. He calls her Neslihan and notes she’s in for an extortion case and she has children—I’m listening, he says. Ceylin starts, first my name isn’t Neslihan, it’s Ceylin. I’m not here and I don’t have children. I’m married. The women here are waiting to hear the words from your mouth. Whatever you say determines where they will end up. So if you’re going to do your job like you should, do it. Otherwise, quit. [that’s our girl!]

She continues, obviously you are a busy man, ask for help. Tell them you can’t handle it. Don’t play with the hopes of these people. There’s a mother in there waiting for her 5 month old baby. Ceylin gets up to leave. The Dr. calls her back. Wait! Hope is important. You’re right, but self expression is important, too. It’s been a busy day and I think I’m a little tired. I’m sorry. Let’s start again.

Ceylin sits. He tries to smooth things over. There are many experiences here. Pain, fear, uncertainty. Many emotions. He knows that she can’t remember things due to trauma. Let’s talk about what happened. It must have been so difficult that your mind is afraid to relive your emotions. I’d like to hear your story if you agree.

Eren is on the phone. I’m still waiting for the soil samples. We said to hurry up. Pars will get upset. And here comes Pars. How’s it going? I’ll have it on your desk as soon as I have it, Eren replies. Pars asks, did Ilgaz pick you up yesterday? Eren fumbles, uh…yeah… we had a little chat. We went for a drink. Is friendship forbidden? No, may God give everyone a confidant like you, Pars replies, a true friend. But if I catch you, I’ll ruin you. Pars leaves. Eren wonders who’s the snitch.

Metin comes to Eren and wants to know what Pars said. He warned me, Eren replies, he threatened me. I can’t meet with Ilgaz. He’s right, Metin interrupts, what did you expect? Metin tells Eren he’s taking him off the case. Metin leaves and Eren chases after him. Boss! Please. Metin calls for Mustafa and hands over the case to him. Eren begs. Metin warns Mustafa not to share info with Eren. You guys are ruining my son’s career, Metin states, I won’t permit it.

secrets #32 part 4

Ilgaz arrives at the courthouse at the same time as Yekta. DA Ilgaz, the great prosecutor, Yekta declares, you’re responsible for upholding the law. Aren’t you ashamed of crossing the line? The people outside hear. That’s enough, Ilgaz shoots back. Is it, Yekta asks, you went to the crime scene to clear your wife’s name.

Ilgaz says he can have Yekta arrested. Didn’t you go to the scene, Yekta asks and answers his own question—you did! Maybe you’re stealing evidence to clear your wife. You can’t confront me here in the middle of the street, and falsely accuse me, Ilgaz responds. Yekta says he will find proof.

Ilgaz accuses Yekta of putting on a show, speaking out loud to provoke an attack. He warns, I’ll have you arrested for slandering a DA! Ilgaz walks and Yekta calls out, I’ll file a criminal complaint! Your wife murdered my son! You’ll suffer the consequences!

Ceylin tells the Dr., when I was in the car, I thought I hated him to death. I was very upset. It was like my ears exploded while he sang. He was so happy to escape. As if he deserved to be happy. As if he hadn’t taken my sister’s life. The Doc says let’s stick to the car. How did the car smell? Smell is important to remember [especially in a Turkish dizi]

Ceylin says it smelled like a hospital. Medicine, too. Metallic and chemical. It smelled like a pine tree. There were trees, many pine trees, she remembers. The rest is dark. Darkness and silence. It’s as if I’m being dragged to the middle of it. I can’t remember anything, she cries, why is this happening to me?

Calm down, the dr tells her, this is normal. You were hit on the head. It could be that or when you go through something so hard, you want to forget it. I’m not that type of person, Ceylin replies, I don’t give up so easily. I’m obsessive, I always remember everything! My job is about details.

The Dr. notes she is getting mad at herself for forgetting. Don’t do it. However, if you’re afraid or if you have experienced a very intense emotion, the brain immediately suppresses it to cope. It does that for our own good. A defense mechanism. We are flesh and blood. We get offended and hurt. We don’t have to be perfect.

Eren calls Ilgaz with the news he’s been taken off the case. Metin tied my hands and feet. He told everyone and put on a great show. He did it for you. I was going to hurt you and ruin your career. He may be right. I don’t want to hurt you.

Mustafa has some unfortunate news. There was an accident in the lab. Ceylin’s coat caught fire. We checked the cameras, it was really an accident. Metin wants to check, too. Mustafa tells Metin that Eren said the footprint belonged to someone else. He hands Metin a DNA report from Ceylin. Tissue samples from her fingernails match Engin. Metin says he will bring it to Pars.

Ilgaz barges into Pars’ office and demands information on the case. Pars sarcastically laments, why can’t two great prosecutors sit down, talk, and get along? I’m not here as a prosecutor, Ilgaz replies, I’m here as a husband. If that’s the case, Pars says, you can’t enter my office like this. You know the rules. Get a lawyer, defend your wife. Pars asks him to leave. Ilgaz understands that Pars is doing his job. But as a person, even as a friend, you’re ruthless, he says.

secrets #32 part 5

Ceylin paces and cries in the dr’s office. I have a feeling of great despair. I feel like I’m on the edge. I want this to be over. You need time, the dr says, if you rush… you will get scared and your panic will block your memory. Take deep breaths. You have time. I don’t want to be in prison any longer, she cries, I need to hurry!

There’s a knock at the Dr’s door. It’s the woman that Ilgaz spoke to earlier. She is the prison prosecutor, Zeynep Yildiz. They gave Ceylin extra time with the Dr. but now the committee is waiting for the evaluation. Her cell will be determined.

Zeynep calls Ilgaz. Ceylin just spoke with the psychologist. To tell you the truth, Ceylin isn’t well. Her mind isn’t clear. Although she is recovering slowly, this isn’t a suitable place for her to recover her memory. Perhaps if she was with loved ones, it would be much easier. Zeynep is only sharing this out of respect and admiration for Ilgaz. Ilgaz sweeps a pile of files off his desk in frustration.

Parla has skipped school and she runs into Merve. Serdar is nearby in a car. Merve invites Parla to come with them and have some fun.

Pars takes Yekta’s statement. He talks about the house. They’ve had it for years. Engin loved that house. I guess he went to a place he felt safe, Yekta says. Pars says, the house is yours, Lacin takes Engin’s car to the hospital. Life loves coincidences. Yekta remembers their driver gave the key and said he’d bring Lacin’s car back after maintenance and he’d take Engin’s car. Then Lacin left it there.

What a good liar you are, Pars accuses, you said that Lacin said that. So who is this driver? Let me question him. Yekta says that’s fine and adds, Ceylin is in prison. You found the murderer. Give us my son’s body so we can bury him. Lacin is suffering.

Pars reminds Yekta that Ceylin is a only suspect. It hasn’t been proven yet. Well, Yekta replies, since I came all the way here, give me her file. Pars says there’s a gag order. We can’t show the file to anyone. Understood, Yekta says, you won’t help me but I’ll help you.

Yekta pulls the shroud out of his bag. Ceylin’s mother gave this to Lacin. She did it so we would bury our son. Lacin wants to testify. And this [the certificates] proves that sniper Ceylin could shoot our son in the heart.

Yekta gets up and gathers his things. He tells Pars, I also filed a criminal complaint against Ilgaz Kaya. The reason? Ilgaz went to the crime scene. He looked around and did his own research. He’s the suspect’s husband. He can’t do that. It's illegal. You heard this from me. Yekta signs his statement. And with a “kolay gelsin” -may it (your work) come easy, he leaves. Pars sighs, Ilgaz…

Ceylin is brought to her permanent cell. She’s in with the embezzler whose name I can’t remember and that rude, chatty one from the cafeteria. The guard explains the situation, but Ceylin looks out the window and doesn’t pay attention.

Ilgaz sees his father heading to Pars’ office and follows him. It looks like Pars isn’t there. Metin has placed the file on Pars’ desk. Ilgaz wants to look at it. Metin tells him he better leave. Ilgaz asks, does the soil match Ceylin’s coat? Pars walks into the office. What’s going on?

And we are out.

secrets

Another excellent recap, dondi. Sorry about all this time not typing in the 356 after your name; I'm just too lazy to do it! And don't worry at all about when you post; we're just grateful for your recaps.

Yekta, yada, yada, yada, indeed! Every time he opens his mouth I feel like screaming. Some men look all right with stubble; Yekta isn't one of them. And when he's trying to domineer someone he squints those beady little eyes. I sincerely hope that what Lacin and Seda were meeting about was a way to get even. Lacin got a good shot in about the vehicular homicide he was apparently guilty of.

I sort of see why no tissue, blood, or hair on the gun was good news for Ceylin. But my thoughts were running to Engin having bashed her in the head with the butt of the gun.

I thought I'd seen some evil, vengeful people in my decades of watching telenovelas, but some of these people in dizis put them in the shade.

Something about that whistling Engin did was to torment Ceylin. I assume at some point she'll remember what he was whistling. Maybe the song was familiar to her.

I find the differences between Ilgaz and Cinar regarding acceptance of Merdan to be interesting. Cinar had suffered from feeling rejected by his father because the young man reminded him of Merdan. But Ilgaz isn't a damaged person and doesn't want anything to do with Merdan.

Regarding the woman who couldn't have her baby, justice is the same everywhere. The ones with money and property get most of the justice, and the ones with no resources very little.

I'm over Ozlem. But OTOH it's scary for Fatih to know that Tugce is not his child.

Once Ceylin rattled his cage, the psychologist was revealed as actually knowing what to do.

Perla, gah! What's the matter with that girl. Getting into the car with the drug dealers drives me nuts.

Pars has a really good poker face. He didn't react at all to Yekta yelling about Ilgaz being at the crime scene. He didn't want to give Yekta any more ammunition.

Juego (posting this here as well)

Thanks so much, novelera, for posting your recap of the Gran Final.

I liked it. I just think they could have showed the rest of the episodes. So, Telemundo, for its own odd reasons, named the Gran Final both as "76" and as "82"? Huh?

Anyway. I wanted to say a big thank you to all the recappers: novelera, deb, Juanita and VVS. I hope we recap another telenovela together soon!

Secrets

Thank you, dondi356. A lot of helpful details in the recap.

Ilgaz comes up with very helpful leads for the investigation. All the leads related to the third person came from Ilgaz - cigarette buts, Ceylin's head wound, now the step on the jacket. Too bad they are trying to cut him off.

It seems Yekta is trying too hard to convict Ceylin. It is as if he is trying to lead the investigation away from the truth, like he did when he set up Osman. Although Ceylin's family acted similarly about Cinar. They didn't want to hear the evidence, just punishment.

juego

Thanks, Weirdo. Yes, hopefully Telemundo will eventually come up with something we can all enjoy and that isn't a form of reality television. I read somewhere years ago that a lot of network TV that migrated to reality shows was a cost cutting scheme. It represented a simple way to make money with very little investment. It seems it's easier to get people on shows to compete and not have to pay actors, screenwriters, etc., etc.

I got my wish, Adriana with a happy ending. There was a reason Francisco Javier was shown as being so obsessed with her all along. The only thing that seemed false to me was that he couldn't tell he was making love to her and not Mariana in Miami. César recognized her immediately.

The trauma she suffered from being separated from her twin and left in the orphanage was the reason for some of the sketchy things she did. Plus, the plot was revealed more recently to have been Chuy's idea. They didn't flesh it out, but I could see him even suggesting scamming the fancy clothes designer.

Not really time to say much more, but I enjoyed this novela and enjoyed sharing recaps and comments with you, deb, Juanita, and Susanlynn. A small patio but a very warm and welcoming one.

Juego

I thought the recappers did a great job with an often confusing plot. Thank you. The ending was satisfying. Too bad the time change and shortening affected the experience, but it still felt complete at the end. Enjoyed reading the patio banter!

Secrets

Thanks for commenting, novelera and Lucio. They are starting to edit a lot of scenes. They’re not that critical, but they add context to the storyline and give insight into the characters.

Don’t worry about dropping the 356, novelera.

“I thought I'd seen some evil, vengeful people in my decades of watching telenovelas, but some of these people in dizis put them in the shade.” I immediately thought of Bad Grannie – Azize Aslanbey from Hercai. She takes the cake… or the baklava!

Maybe that song will be the thing that eventually brings Ceylin’s memory back.

Perla is a just a stupid, confused kid. They cut that she didn’t want to go to school because she didn’t want to answer any questions about her absence. She gave her parents a hard time. Osman walked her to school, but then she cut out.

I like Pars more and more. His snide comments are even better in the Turkish. He also has noticeably long eyelashes. Lol

Yes, Lucio, Ilgaz would have made a good detective. And Yekta is really pushing for Ceylin’s conviction. You might be on to something. He had Cuneyt plant that evidence on Osman. Maybe Cuneyt is involved in this one, too.

Recap to follow this post.

Secrets #33 part 1

Quote for Turkish ep #16: Mild sorrows speak, but deeper ones are silent." - Seneca

Pars catches Ilgaz with Metin in his office. What are you doing here? Ilgaz doesn’t answer and leaves. Pars asks Metin what’s going on. Metin glances at the report he placed on the desk. Pars says, it’s over. I can’t protect your son anymore. I need to report this.

Ilgaz sits at his desk, takes out a sheet of paper and starts to write: To the Secretary General of the Administrative Oversight Commission… “

Metin visits Ceylin. He asks how she’s doing. He mentions her head wound. He asks, don’t you remember anything? She shakes her head no. Just bits and pieces, but I can’t make sense of it, she replies. Metin says, you probably know, even if you can’t remember. It’s not easy to shoot someone. You’d probably feel it in your heart. Did you do it or not? If you killed Engin, tell me. Why are you so mad at me, Ceylin asks. Metin stands up. Because you changed my son. I hardly recognize him anymore. Metin leaves.

Seda comes to the Tilmen office. She asks if the offer to represent the family still stands. Yekta asks, what made you change your mind? I thought it over, she replies, I was wrong. Does the offer stand? It’s a deal. They shake on it. Cuneyt is not happy.

Ilgaz knocks on the AG’s door. Pars is in there. The AG tells Ilgaz they were talking about him. I warned you, he says, it doesn’t work like this. You’ve cornered me. I’m opening an investigation. Ilgaz says don’t bother, it’s not necessary. Ilgaz places the letter on the AG’s desk. His resignation.

I don’t want to be a problem, Ilgaz says, but I won’t stop. I decided. The AG thinks this is a rash decision. Ilgaz is certain. Ok, the AG replies, hand in your files and empty your office. I’ll forward your resignation to the appropriate parties. You’ll get your answer in a few days. Ilgaz leaves.

Ilgaz has brought his info on Ceylin’s case to Sahver. It’s a shame the jacket was burned, she says, but there’s definitely a footprint. But it’s impossible to tell when and how it got on the jacket. If the print matches the soil in the woods, then it makes sense a third person was involved. Your goal right now is to get Ceylin out until the trial. You must prove a third person was involved.

Ilgaz asks if finding other footprints like the one on the jacket would work. Maybe, Sahver replies, but don’t go looking for it yourself. Call the police immediately. Ilgaz has a question. It’s only a matter of time before my resignation is accepted. I’ll be applying for a license at the bar association, but it will take a while. If there is anything you could do to expedite it, I’d appreciate it. She will be happy to handle that for him.

Ceylin’s mother and sister have come to visit. She tells them she’s feeling better but still trying to remember. Gul made spinach borek and brought money. Ceylin asks for news on Zafer. Not yet, Gul says, I think he wanted to leave, so he did. He abandoned us. If he had died, we’d have found out by now. Gul says she will come every week to bring clothes and money. Ceylin is thankful.

Pars speaks with Metin. If we solve the case quickly, we can bring Ilgaz back. You took Eren off the case. He’s the one who is most familiar with it. I thought you didn’t want leaks, Metin asks. Pars replies, I don’t want to tell you how to run your department, but I have to say this. Give the case back to Eren. Save me the trouble of bringing it up formally. Most people think I’m difficult, but Eren and I get along [lol]. Metin warns, if Eren and Ilgaz get together, they will be impossible to control. Pars doesn’t care. At this point, what Ilgaz knows doesn’t matter.

secrets #33 part 2

Seda tells a team of lawyers that they will seek the maximum sentence for Ceylin. We will start by compiling a list of everyone who’s visited her. We’ll dissect every aspect of the investigation and use it for our case. Remember this crime is directly related to a previous one, Ceylin’s sister’s murder. Our angle is revenge.

Pars goes over the cigarette evidence with Eren. I wonder how long they waited. Metin calculates that this person waited for over an hour or more if they took breaks between smokes. Pars is impatient to get the DNA results from the cigarettes. Eren says there’s a backlog because of the fire. Pars mentions the object with which Ceylin was hit. Expand the search, he orders, find it.

Ilgaz visits Ceylin. There’s an embrace and then they sit. I’m going to show you some things to help you remember, he tells her, don’t pressure yourself. I’ll talk and you’ll listen. You left the hospital and went to Sile. You were in the car. She remembers that. He continues, the car was found at Engin’s house. Ilgaz shows her the file.

Ceylin is alarmed. How did you get these? Ilgaz wants to continue, Ceylin stops him. No! You shouldn’t have access to this file. We’re married. You could get fired for this! She gets up, I don’t want to see any of this. He replies, please, I’m trying to help you remember. She wants no part. This is official evidence.

Ilgaz asks her to calm down and listen. Ceylin says he wouldn’t have done this if he was in his right mind. I don’t want you to get in trouble. [too late] You don’t hurt me, he replies, you give me strength. You’re just afraid of losing me, Ceylin says, I won’t let you do this. They hug. She says, I’d never forgive myself if you lost your job because of me. Ilgaz gets her to sit back down. She still won’t look at the file.

Cuneyt tells Yekta that Ilgaz resigned. He turned in his letter today and cleaned out his office. Yekta smiles, that means he will be her lawyer. This is good for us. A formidable prosecutor turned rookie defense attorney. They’re making it easy.

Ceylin tries to extract a promise from Ilgaz. Eren is working and I trust Pars. He’s very annoying but he will seek the truth. Ilgaz asks, did you stop looking for your sister’s murderer? She sighs. He asks, when did you obey the rules?

Let’s do things your way this time, Ceylin replies. Trust me, it’s for the best. If I’d have listened to you, maybe I wouldn’t have gotten in that car. If I didn’t act on impulse, I’d know to be afraid. Isn’t fear a way of self-preservation? Look where not following rules got me. If anyone needs to change in this relationship, it’s me, not you. Ilgaz tells her he can take care of himself. You trust me. It’s your turn to promise. Stop blaming yourself. I’ll try, she replies.

There was a cut: The inmates, including Ceylin, sit in a common room watching TV. Ceylin is also there. The news comes on and it’s an item all about Ceylin’s case, going back to Inci’s murder. Everyone whispers and turns to Ceylin. She quickly leaves the room.

Ceylin returns to her cell and hears a song on the radio coming from another cell. It’s the song Engin was singing to in the car-- Ben Ölmeden Önce – Before I Die. She enters and listens with the radio to her ear. She remembers riding in the car. An inmate interrupts her to ask if she wants her laundry done. She sends the money to her children. She has 11 years left in her sentence. Ceylin drops the radio and pays the woman. [they cut the fact that Ceylin gives her money but doesn’t want her to do her laundry]

secrets #33 part 3

Another cut: Serdar shows up at Merdan’s place with Merve and Parla. Tugce is there, shooting pool. Merdan sees Serdar, and Serdar does his best to avoid him.

They also cut Seda coming to see Merdan. He ushers her into a backroom. We don’t see more. Maybe that will be a flashback at some point.

Serdar speaks with Cinar at Merdan’s. He’s got a job lined up. Cinar doesn’t want any problems. Serdar says it’s 75 grand, split 5 ways. You don’t have to sell anything. Cinar wants no part. Serdar tries hard to talk him into it.

Ceylin hears Dilek singing to her baby. [they cut the scene where she got him back] Ceylin writes in her book: he was singing a song in the car before he died. Did he know I was in the car? He seemed to be getting upset.

Seda tells Lacin, the pain will never go away but it will become bearable. It’s killing me now, Lacin replies. I’ve decided to stay a while longer, Seda says, I accepted Yekta’s offer. But only to keep him from becoming suspicious. Otherwise, I can’t explain why I’m staying. Lacin thanks her sister. Seda asks, how are we going to get rid of Yekta? Will you divorce him or send him to prison? I want him to pay for all he’s done, Lacin responds, I want to destroy him. I’ll need time, Seda says, it won’t be easy, but we can do it.

Ilgaz is investigating at Yekta’s house in Sile. He finds footprints that might match the jacket and calls Eren. If they match the crime scene print, we can get Ceylin out.

Ridvan finds Pars at a restaurant. He tried calling but the phone was off. He has news. Ilgaz’s resignation was accepted.

Eren arrives at the house. They compare the photo to the print on the ground. It’s a match. Ilgaz says they will file an appeal. Ilgaz tells Eren his resignation was accepted. Eren is sorry to hear it. Eren calls the team to the site. Eren tells Ilgaz to leave, he doesn’t want the evidence thrown out on a technicality.

Ilgaz and Eren meet again. The footprint and the jacket are a match. Ilgaz asks about the DNA on the cigarettes. No results yet. Eren will call. Ilgaz heads off to the court.

Umut brings the DNA results to Metin. No DNA was found on the cigarettes. Metin thinks they must have used a holder. Send the report to Pars.

Ridvan tells Pars about the cigarette DNA result. He also says that Yekta has brought in his driver.
Ceylin is helping the annoying inmate (does anyone know her name?) with her case. She tells her to use the inheritance money to get a good lawyer. It will be a long battle.

Cinar calls Serdar. [why, Cinar, why?] He asks, could we get caught? Serdar doesn’t think so. Cinar says he’s in. Serdar will call him later with the details.

Ceylin helps Dilek with her case, too. Ceylin gets a visitor, it’s Eren.

The driver gives his statement. I asked Mrs. Tilmen to leave the key in the car. Pars says that’s not what Mrs. Tilmen said. First she said it was in her bag. Then she said she lost it and looked for it. The driver repeats, I asked her to leave the key. I was taking her car to be serviced. Then I thought I’d take Engin’s car.

Pars isn’t buying it. Engin escaped. Maybe he’d be alive if he hadn’t. The driver nervously adjusts his collar. Pars wants the truth—what happened to the key? He says Mrs. Tilmen was upset. She got worse after Engin escaped. You should have seen her when I picked her up.

Where did you take her, Pars asks. Seda speaks up, is that relevant? I just want to know, Pars replies. She wanted fresh air, the driver says. There’s fresh air all over the city, Pars answers, where did you go? We went to the beach. She cried there for about an hour.

secrets #33 part 4

Eren tells Ceylin that Ilgaz will file for an appeal. She asks why he didn’t come. What’s the problem, Eren jokes, you don’t want to see me? I wanted to bring you the good news. He laughs and says it’s ok to miss your husband. I do, Ceylin admits, but I miss you, too.

Eren gives her encouragement. Ilgaz will get you out of here asap. Listen to your heart, you know you didn’t do this. Engin set you up. That hadn’t crossed my mind, she says, I didn’t think someone else could be there. Thanks for believing in me.

Yekta is displeased with the driver’s testimony. What’s with the fresh air? Lacin said she went home. Well, we went home afterwards, the driver says.

Seda wants a word with Pars. She wants him to testify. Why? You were there when Ceylin threatened to kill Engin with her own hands if he left prison, and so was I and DA Ilgaz. Ilgaz won’t testify citing spousal privilege. But there’s nothing stopping you.

We all say things we don’t mean when we’re upset, Pars replies, haven’t you ever threatened anyone in a fit of rage? Maybe, but they never ended up dead, Seda says. Feel free to testify when you’re available. Here or at the station.

Cuneyt has an update. The substance used to poison Engin was previously used in a case. How is this relevant, Seda asks. Engin and Ceylin were the defense attorneys. Yekta says this is how Ceylin came up with the idea to poison Engin. Seda grabs the info to take to Pars.

Ilgaz is told most of the judges are at a conference this week. Things are moving slowly. The clerk says if you go personally, the judge will see you right away. He says that’s not necessary, he will wait.

Tugce wants a straight answer from her mom. What’s going on with Officer Eren? Ozlem plays dumb. Tugce says, three days ago I didn’t know who the man was and now he’s always around. Bringing you home, bringing you dinner and he threw Dad in jail. What the hell is going on? Maybe he thinks we need help, Ozlem replies. Tugce is upset, Mom, I’ve spent years trying to get you to be honest with me, but it hasn’t worked.

There’s a crowd of inmates who surround Ceylin asking for her legal help.

The clerk who helped Ilgaz, takes his paperwork and knocks on a judge’s door to ask for a favor.

Seda gives Pars the new findings. There was a lawyer chemist among us, she says. Ceylin poisoned Engin. She had a case where the victim was killed in a similar manner. The killer laced the money with poison. Ceylin learned something. Pars asks, so…? Ceylin poisoned Engin, it failed, and succeeded a second time. Pars is silent. Seda presses. Pars says he will take it into consideration. Give me time to reach my own conclusions.

The clerk that helped Ilgaz is outside talking to colleagues. I think one is Ilgaz’s assistant. Ridvan listens in. She says, I was asking the judge to review Ilgaz’s motion. He wanted to wait. He’s so proper. Ridvan asks, what motion? To appeal the pre-trial detention order on his wife. He’ll get her out in no time. Ridvan brings this news right back to Pars. He asks, who’s the judge?

Ilgaz is called—Judge Seckin is expecting you. Neva? Yes, she’s been appointed by the commission while the others are at the conference. Neva tells Ilgaz she has read the motion. Pars enters. He knows Ilgaz filed a motion to appeal the detention order on his wife. Ilgaz says that’s subject to new information and adds there’s no reason for Pars to be there. Pars says he just received new evidence, too. Neva says she will hear what both have to say.

Juego

A big thank you to the recappers. I would have been lost without your excellent, insightful recaps. I ended up recording this show and watching it after I read your great accounts . I liked the happy endings , and the anvils that were dropped seemed appropriate . ...except I didn't like that Pasqual was in prison instead of Renata. He was a womanizer , but he loved his kids and didn't kill anyone ...just loved the mujeres. Chuy was evidently damaged beyond repair , while Adriana got FJ by the sea....I don't think they will have kids. Adriana doesn't seem cut out to be a mother.

secrets #33 part 5

Ilgaz makes his case. Ceylin has no previous offenses and has a permanent address known to the court. As a lawyer, her reputation may be negatively affected if she stays in jail. Her current client cases are up in the air. She won’t have access to current or future evidence. This is a severe measure for a first-time offender who doesn’t pose a flight risk and who has been cooperative. New evidence shows that a third person was at the scene and that this has been an attempt to frame Ceylin.

Pars interjects, you’ve thoroughly investigated? There could be a third or fifth person, none of it is relevant. Ilgaz continues, footprints were found near the 7 cigarette butts. Someone smoked while waiting. The cigarettes were dry, but it rained that morning.

Pars interjects again, no DNA was found on the cigarettes. Ilgaz says they can prove the footprints match others found in three other locations. Pars says to let the judge speak.

Neva asks if there is any other evidence to present. Ilgaz talks about Ceylin’s head wound. But there were no blunt objects found at the scene. Pars confirms that. Ilgaz says that proves a third party took that weapon. Furthermore, the defendant had injuries to the body and a psych eval shows she has memory loss due to trauma. She has a better chance of remembering if she is released from prison.

Neva turns to Pars. Can you share the new evidence that compelled you to burst into my office? Pars offers evidence that Ceylin is a trained shooter. Pars thinks Ilgaz doesn’t know his wife as well as he thought. Seda Gokmen wants to testify that she witnessed the defendant threatening the victim. Both Ilgaz and I witnessed it, too. Pars presents the poisoning case that Ceylin worked on. We believe that she tried to poison Engin and when it didn’t work, she shot him.

Ilgaz asks, Your Honor, the defense requests the court release the defendant so she may await trial at home. If you disagree, then we request conditions of her freedom be set by the court. Neva asks if that’s all. She dismisses them while she makes her decision. Pars tries to talk to her, but she asks him to leave.

Tugce has packed her suitcase and leaves the house. Ozlem chases after her. Allah Aşkına, listen to me! I could barely get a word out of your mouth, Tugce snaps back, that man who is supposed to be an officer is my father! My father! What else are you going to tell me? Ozlem says you don’t understand, I was desperate. I had to make a choice to protect us. You protected me by ruining my life, Tugce shouts.

Neva comes out of her office with her decision. She passes by Ilgaz and hands it off to the clerk. She returns to her office without looking at or speaking to Ilgaz. Ilgaz goes to the clerk. She says, congratulations, we’re sending the judge’s ruling over to the prison.

Ilgaz goes to Neva. So you found out, she says. Ilgaz just has one question, did you reach this decision on your own? Neva doesn’t understand. Ilgaz asks, or is it because you believe her? Let me help you, Neva replies, my love for you has nothing to do with my decision. I silenced my heart and did my job. I made the decision I thought was right. Ilgaz is grateful.

Cuneyt gets the news about Ceylin’s release. He goes to see Neva. She rushes to hug him. Are you okay, he asks. I’m fine, she says. He tells her, you know you made the wrong decision. Everyone will be looking at you now. You’ve put yourself in danger, and me too.

Ceylin gets the news. It’s your lucky day… you’ve been released. They are waiting outside, get ready. Tears of relief. She comes outside and heads straight into Ilgaz’s arms.

And we are out.

secrets

Thanks again, dondi. I especially appreciate your putting in the things Telemundo has cut.

I really like the strong women in this representation of the Turkish legal system. Sahver is a wonderful character, as is the woman who helped Ilgaz speed up Ceylin's psych eval.

I'm suspicious of that burned up jacket. They made a point of saying it was accidental, but feels to me like a Yekta move.

Why is Seda so hell bent on convicting Ceylin? She saw, up close and personal, what a rotten person Engin, her nephew, was. Is it because Lacin is really convinced Ceylin killed her son and it's family solidarity? I keep wanting her to be a double agent, but it doesn't look that way so far.

Metin, Pfft! He's not exactly father of the year, is he? Controlling people drive me nuts and that's how he appears to me. He was a very bad father to Cinar. And now he wants Ilgaz not to waste those hours driving taxis for Ilgaz's education. It also looks like he wants Ceylin to be guilty so his gold-star son can move on, maybe to Neva.

Why doesn't Ilgaz just tell Ceylin he resigned? And, speaking of that, you can't just resign in Turkey? Someone has to approve your resignation?

If Serdar keeps trying to drag Cinar into a life of crime, he might end up dead in a ditch. Somehow I think Merdan might force feed him some tainted baklava.

I love the easy affection and humor between Eren and Ceylin.

I loved Pars grilling that guy Yekta involved in the plot to get Engin a car. Was that the same guy that Zafer borrowed a car from? He looked familiar.

Again, thanks for all the terrific recaps, dondi.

Secrets

Thank you, dondi356. Too bad they started cutting scenes.

Ilgaz did it! A lot of effort and he got Ceylin out!

Where is Tugce going? To Eren?

Cuneyt says to Neva: "You’ve put yourself in danger, and me too." What? Why is he in danger? Did he have something to do with Engin's murder?

secrets

Thank you, novelera and Lucio. This is not the usual dizi. I’m enjoying it very much. ITA, novelera, “I really like the strong women in this representation of the Turkish legal system.”

I took some time last night to watch more of the Turkish eps that cover ours.

Pars tried to talk Ilgaz out of resigning. He offered to go out, have a drink somewhere, and talk about it.

I saw the convo between Merdan and Seda. He threatened her with her daughter again. He wants her to find Zafer’s body. He’s sure that Yekta knows something, because Engin couldn’t have done it alone. He should know about Serdar! I can’t wait until he gives it to that punk! Anyway, that’s why Seda is staying in Istanbul and working for Yekta. Or at least it’s the main reason.

Metin had a very poor role model in how to be a father. He might have faults but he’s better than Merdan. He is extremely bitter when it comes to Merdan.

They cut a scene where Metin worried about Ilgaz. Merdan says, a man always worries about his child. Parenting is a lifetime job. Metin replies, look who is speaking, we were little when you left us. Didn’t call, didn’t ask… are we hungry… are we healthy. I was three, you returned when I was ten. I didn’t even recognize you when I opened the door. I was just glad to have a father. A week later you were gone again. There is no need to speak to me about family and love.

Cuneyt and Neva are up to something, Lucio. Don’t know what it could be.

I’ll have the recap up later today.

secrets #34 part 1

Seda and Cuneyt tell Yekta that Ceylin has been released. Seda mentions the possible third person at the scene. Get me anything that will refute their suspicions, Yekta orders, find something to send her back to prison!

Ilgaz has been invited to dinner at the Erguvan house. He’s a little nervous there might be questions about marriage from Gul. Ceylin says if she doesn’t ask, don’t bring it up. If she asks, we’ll see. Gul is overjoyed to have Ceylin back. She’s grateful to Ilgaz. It’s a very happy dinner.

Lacin watches Engin’s birthday video. Yekta is angry, Ceylin is in the video. She’s Engin’s murderer! He shuts it off. He tells her Ceylin was released. Is someone else responsible, she asks. No, he replies, Ceylin is still a suspect. The judge didn’t think it was necessary to detain her because she’s Ilgaz’s ex-fiancée. Lacin looks worried. Yekta vows to send Ceylin back to prison.

Yekta sits close to Lacin. He puts his arm around her. We are going to have a husband and wife chat. He kisses her hand, her shoulder. I’ll ask a question and you’ll answer. On the day Engin escaped, we went to the courthouse to give our statements. Then Murat (the driver) picked you up. The DA took his statement today. He asked about the car, the keys, and where you went. Murat said nonsense, you went to the beach. But I called you that day and you said you were home.

Lacin admits they made a stop. Are you asking if I did something wrong that day? I was only there for a minute. Yekta squeezes her tightly. She breaks free and leaves the room.

Later, we see Yekta looking at tablet that shows a map with some sort of tracking. It’s unclear to me how this made him realize that Lacin was lying about going to the beach. He demands to know where she went. I… got out of the car when we were on the road, she replies, I didn’t want anyone to know. She admits, I went to the house in Sile. You send clients there when you need to hide them. I thought Engin was there, too. I went after him because… I wanted to hug and kiss my son.

Stop lying, Yekta shouts, you were going to leave with him! No, I just wanted to say goodbye, she claims. I waited for him, but he never showed up. Then you called me, and I got scared and came home. I couldn’t see him. I didn’t get to say goodbye. Yekta leaves. [they cut Lacin searching her drawer for a lighter and a cigarette holder! Wow.]

Cut: Gul and Aylin whispering in the kitchen. Gul wonders if Ilcey will sleep there together tonight. Aylin says maybe. Gul is panicked and worries what would Zafer think. Aylin reminds Gul that Ilcey are married, it’s not forbidden. Gul is suspicious. Ceylin does not openly talk about their marriage. She doesn’t understand. Anyway, Aylin thinks Ilgaz will leave.

Dinner is over, Ilgaz is leaving. Gul thanks him for keeping his promise. She kisses him. [I guess she’s also relieved his leaving. Aylin’s comment was really a dig at her mom that she was hoping Ilgaz wouldn’t stay] Ceylin sees Ilgaz out. See you tomorrow, DA, she says. They hug.

Ceylin is in her room. She wistfully looks at a picture of Zafer with his daughters.

Cut: Defne tells Metin she has forgiven Ceylin. She drew a picture of Ilgaz and Ceylin getting married. She found out about it when she heard Makbule talk. Metin confronts Makbule about her unhappiness over the marriage. She’s worried about people gossiping that their DIL is a murderer. Will they live under our roof, she asks. Metin notes that she thinks it was ok to take a thief in.

secrets #34 part 2

Ceylin arrives at Ilgaz’s door. She explains, I spent years working to feel like I belonged. A home, a family, a friend, a lover, a job, you name it. A place you’ll be cared for, remembered, valued. I wanted to be respected. It’s hard for me because I have a sharp tongue. I think being frank is a valuable trait. Most people don’t like that because they don’t want to hear the truth.

Ilgaz is listening. She continues, I wanted my feelings to be reciprocated. I don’t know if that means anything to the other party. Being loved, accepted or needed. Did you know I saw a psychologist for this? He said there are many things we don’t get from our parents as children. I think he’s right.

Ceylin says, I went to my room and I sat on my bed and everything felt strange. I didn’t feel I belonged there. Ilgaz takes her hands in his. Then I remembered the time I spent here, she says, the feeling of trusting myself, the feeling of belonging. I took my calls on that sofa. I felt the emptiness I carried was finally filled. And now I’m here. She asks, can I sleep with you, if you will let me?

Ilgaz nods. He leads her into the bedroom. And folks we get the Turkish dizi version of “sleeping together”—with all your clothes on. [There was nothing more than this in the Turkish ep]

Song: Son Arzum/My Last Wish - Nilüfer
YouTube with translation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUr8y9GCpWg

Ilgaz makes breakfast the next morning. Afterwards the plan is to go to the crime scene.

On his way out, Osman asks Aylin if Ceylin left at night or in the morning. Aylin says don’t gossip. The uncle from across the street rushes outside. Osman…Zumut fainted. We need to bring her to the car. Osman looks at Aylin. She nods to go. Aylin looks concerned, she knows, and we know what that might mean.

Ilcey run into Cinar on their way out. Cinar looks a bit uncomfortable. [They cut: Makbule comes out after Ilcey leave, she tells Cinar not to hang out with that killer. She should know…]

Eren goes to his car and spots Tugce sitting nearby with her suitcase.

Lacin arrives at the Erguvan house. Gul is taking out the trash. I have just one question, Lacin says, are you happy? My son is dead, wrapped in a shroud. Are you happy? Gul is silent. Now we are even, Lacin says, they are gone. Who won? Who lost? Are you happy? Gul replies, [Turkish] a person does not know who to take it out on when it hurts. Fire appears and you want to burn everything. Gul and Lacin hug and cry.

Murat takes Lacin to the shore. He holds out his hand and addresses her by first name, Lacin, come. She takes his and gets out. She takes the lighter and cigarette holder from her pocket. Murat holds that hand. You’re going to be okay, he tells her, I am here, I’m with you. Will this end, she asks. It will, he replies, I will never leave you. I’ll always protect you. Don’t I always? She rests her head on his shoulder. [Wow, wow, wow.]

Ilcey drive. Ilgaz plays the song Engin was singing. She has a flashback to the car ride with Engin. What she doesn’t know is that Engin saw her hand in the rear view mirror. He just kept driving.

Ilcey arrive at the house in Sile. She’s remembering. Engin finds her in the back seat. Look who’s here? I know you well, but you don’t know me, he says. He pulls her out of the car. Her phone falls out in the struggle and Engin smashes it. Ceylin resists, I’m not going in that house! Let go! Don’t touch me! You asked for this, Engin says, you got in my car and got involved. Ceylin scratches him. [DNA in fingernails] Engin shouts at her, walk! Walk!

secrets #34 part 3

Ceylin tells Ilgaz—this way! and she takes off. Flashback again. Engin takes Ceylin around the back of the house, and they head to the woods. That’s where Ilcey end up. He brough me here with a gun in my hand, she remembers.

The memories keep coming. She asks Engin, are you going to kill me? She falls he picks her up. She pushes him and he falls. The gun is on the ground and Ceylin reaches it before Engin. Get up, she barks, stand up! You’re going to turn yourself in. I’m never going back to prison, Engin replies, kill me. Kill me or I’ll kill you. Ceylin warns him she won’t hesitate to do it. He knows she can hit her mark.

Ceylin confesses to Ilgaz that she knows how to shoot a gun. You trusted me so much, she says, I was ashamed to admit it. Ilgaz tells her it doesn’t mean she did it. He encourages her to keep remembering.

More memories. Suddenly Engin starts to plead with Ceylin, I’m scared, don’t do it, but then his fear turns into an evil smile. He laughs, and someone hits Ceylin from behind, knocking her to the ground. She’s dazed, not unconscious. She looks up and is kicked in the ribs.

Engin’s relief is short lived. The third person fires the shot that drops him. He looks surprised, like this was someone he knew. Ceylin has brief flashes. She looks at Engin… someone goes over to him.

Ceylin gasps. Ilgaz asks, who was it? It was a woman, Ceylin replies, her hair smelled of shampoo. It was windy… it was a woman. I didn’t do it! I didn’t kill him! Tears of relief. Who was that woman? Ilgaz says let’s consider Engin’s list. Lacin and I were on it, Ceylin says.

Back to Lacin and Murat. He asks, what’s wrong? I keep asking and you don’t answer. Something happened. Yekta knows, she replies, he knows I didn’t go to the beach. What did you tell him, Murat asks. I told him I had a panic attack. He didn’t suspect anything. He believed me. He’ll never find out. No one can know. [Is she lying to Murat? She told Yekta she went to Sile.]

Ceylin can’t say if it is Lacin. There were two women on the list, Ilgaz says, but there was also Pars. We can look into the women in his life. Women who wanted to hurt Engin. Neva went to see Engin on the day he was poisoned. She even went in the ambulance with him.

Neva hands Cuneyt a bag full of liras. He warns her Pars will find out she sold the house. He will want to know why. I’ll avoid him, she replies, he’ll only find out if he goes to Ankara. He doesn’t go often. Neva says, Let’s finish this.

Ceylin says she’d be upset under different circumstances. But she won’t say a word because the timing isn’t right. Let’s look at the women connected to the men on the list. Ceylin mentions Seda. She was suspected of poisoning him. She never testified.

Seda makes a desperate call. Why didn’t you answer, she tells the person on the other end. He replies, I gave my answer, there is nothing left to say. Take care. Help me please, she begs. He hangs up. [I didn’t recognize that voice, did you?]

Ilgaz says, the most important thing is that you remembered. You’ll be absolved and the murderer will be caught. She’s happy. She’s grateful to Ilgaz for trusting her, supporting her. She goes to kiss him, and he offers his cheek. Are you rejecting me, she asks. I’m not rejecting you, he replies, I just don’t want to do this at a crime scene. I don’t want us to feel weird when we remember it. You are the last romantic man on Earth, she tells him.

Ilgaz says they have to notify Eren and Pars. Now she can offer a detailed statement. At least we know we are looking for a woman.

secrets #34 part 4

Tugce is at Eren’s place. Ilgaz calls him to say Ceylin remembers. Tell Pars she wants to testify.

Ceylin remembers she tried to send a message from the parking lot and from the car. Something blocked it. Ilgaz explains it was a signal jammer.

Ilcey drive away, but the camera pans the woods. We see a glove in a watery, muddy patch.

Eren calls Pars. He won’t be able to take the statement today. He’s at a crime scene with 3 victims. Pars wonders where Eren is. Eren stutters. Pars wants him there immediately.

Tugce is listening in. Wow, the police also lie, she says. She looks through the kitchen cabinets. He tells her not to take this the wrong way. You’re always welcome here. But we weren’t getting along last I remember. Did something happen at home? She doesn’t answer. Is it a problem with your bastard father? or is it your mother?

She looks in the refrigerator. She asks, do you live by photosynthesis? There’s no cheese or bread. I have to eat before we talk. I think you should, too…. since you’re my father. Eren did not expect that. He starts to explain. She interrupts, okay, you didn’t know. It’s not your fault and you weren’t involved. Mom dealt with the drama at home, so don’t worry. I’m going to be staying here for a while. Let’s see if I can get myself to call you “Dad”. Let’s find out if we can get along. [Eren has a “what do I do now” look.]

Ilgaz calls Eren. Should we go to the courthouse? Eren says Pars won’t be available until tomorrow.

Ceylin says let’s get back to normal life. Drop me off at my office on your way to the courthouse. [Uh, the look on Ilgaz’s face. He’s dreading to tell her] Maybe I should go to the bank, she says, the hospital was supposed to pay me. I’ll treat you to a meal, she tells him. The first thing I’ll do is… they speak at the same time… she says, I’ll buy a car, he says, pay your debts.

Ceylin gets a new phone. They will get her old contact list but she won’t be able to see who called or messaged. They get deleted after a while. [Like the flower woman with news about Zafer.] She was expecting information from the missing person flyers she posted. There’s no new information on that, Ilgaz says he asks every day. Ceylin thinks, maybe he just left, like my mother said. He was mad at everyone and everything. But when he comes back, I will be mad at him.

Ilgaz suggests she get wireless ear buds. The wires always get tangled in your bag, he says. Too modern, she replies, maybe I love the chaos, maybe the chaos feeds my soul. Does that scare you, she asks. He said on the contrary in the Turkish.

Yekta directs his staff to spread the news. Killer lawyer released! Use Ceylin’s name, let’s make her life hell. Attack Ilgaz, too. DA quits, he’s ashamed of his wife! Ruin them! Everyone gets busy on their devices.

secrets #34 part 5

Seda is using Cuneyt’s office to work. It’s only temporary. He hands her the list of people who visited Engin in prison. Ceylin, Ilgaz, Lacin, Yekta and Cinar. [Hmmm… Neva’s name is missing.] Seda remembers telling Cinar that Engin was expecting his visit. No other names, Seda asks. No.

A woman comes into the office with big news she just found out. Judge Neva was on the ambulance that took Engin to the hospital. [Uh, oh, Cuneyt] Seda asks, are you sure? Yes. Neva went to see him on the day he was hospitalized. While she waited, he was taken to the ambulance. She got on after saying she was a judge. This is important, right?

Seda asks Cuneyt why Neva isn’t on the list. The woman confirms she’s on the list. I heard it from the prison. Cuneyt says he must have missed it by mistake.

Cuneyt calls Neva and tells her they know you went to see Engin and that you rode in the ambulance.

Ilcey continue to shop. Ilgaz gets a call and excuses himself to take it. It’s Sahver’s assistant. You have the date to obtain your license. The ceremony is tomorrow morning. Ilgaz looks back at Ceylin. He will have to tell her.

It’s a quiet ride in the car. Ceylin asks if Ilgaz got bad news. He looks nervous. He gives her short answers. She asks to be dropped off or else Ilgaz will be late. I can’t be late, he replies. Why? Did you take another day off? No. Then go to work, she says, go, justice waits for no one. He pulls over. He blurts, I quit, Ceylin. I’m not a DA anymore. She’s stunned.

And we are out.

OT....Dondi, I had to reach out to you to suggest you give " Mujer" A look. It has the best galan I have seen in a dizi since Engin and Burak. You know that is high praise from me. The first season is very sad, but the love between the young widow and her two young kids is beautiful. I read the synopsis in English . If you Google " Arif y Bahar" you can see some scenes of the galan, who looks a bit like a young Omar Sharif . It is a very emotional story about overcoming loss, cruelty, poverty , and grief .

OT

Hi Susan! High praise, indeed! The actor you are referring to is Feyyaz Duman. I've seen him in another dizi, in a supporting role. I thought he was very good. He is going to be in the second season of Adım Farah with Engin and Demet. He will play a very bad guy from Iran.

I’m recapping Secretos every night and I’m still trying to catch up with some dizis I was watching this past season. I wouldn’t be able to catch up to you on Uni at this point. Maybe I’ll look at the first ep if I can find it online with English subs. I see this was three seasons long with a total of 81 Turkish episodes! Uni must be chopping the heck out of it. I’m glad you’re enjoying it.

Thank you, dondi356, especially for the cut scenes.

"Ceylin arrives at Ilgaz’s door." It was a long speech by Ceylin and Ilgaz listened attentively. Although she had him at hello. Thank you for the song link. Nice romantic song.

A lot of clues, a lot of possibilities. This is the kind of show that would be especially sensitive to spoilers. So, I think Lacin was near the scene, but she was the fourth person there. They showed the lighter and the cigarette holder several times.

The hair of the killer looked light to me - blond or brown. Not red and not black. But maybe it was just the lighting of the scene and it could be any color.

Ilgaz postponed telling Ceylin that he quit as much as he could. The timing actually turned out pretty well. Ceylin had a happy out of jail day, and then she was relaxed and was able to remember. And now a bit of bad news.

Thanks again, dondi. I agree with your assessment that this is a good one. I found myself preferring it to Juegos de Mentira, especially when the villain was revealed and we had episode after episode of his gloating over his victories. But I'd committed to some recaps and María Luisa Camargo is one of my long-time favorite telenovela actresses.

So, a bit of a question about Turkish. Are they omitting diacritical marks on Telemundo? Probably. I noticed that Ceylin and Cinar are both pronounced with a "ch" sound. Mr. Google tells me that a "ch" sound in a Turkish letter "c" has a cedilla. Am I right?

Can we have a truly awful punishment for Yekta? That scene where his hand was digging into Lacin's body while the SOB questioned her...awful. And the fact that, at the beginning of this scene, he was giving her little pecks of kisses. Why doesn't she just leave? And, yes, that was a Wow, Wow, Wow when it was revealed that she has something going on with Murat.

Thanks for putting in the missing scenes. I have not been that crazy about Makbule from the beginning. In the first place, she's Daddy's Girl! And in the second place she's Team Neva no matter what.

I'm beginning to actually like Turkish love scenes. I got a kick out of "Turkish version of "sleeping together", all clothes on." Now that I've gotten used to such scenes, I'm enjoying them more than the regular TNs where kisses turn into clothes being ripped off at a record pace.

I'm very happy Tugce knows that Eren had no idea he was her father. This should bode well for his winning her over.

Another example of the Ilcey puzzle pieces. She blurts out "buy a car" and he says "pay your debts" at the same time.

Yep, "deleted like the flower woman". She knows about Cinar and Zafer being together at the cemetery, but they seem to have let that one drop.

I'm leaning toward Neva as the killer. I was VERY surprised when Ceylin said it was a woman, but she now seems the most likely, especially after the bag full of money.

Secrets

Thank you, Lucio and novelera. Thanks for hanging in with me. Hey, lurkers, feel free to drop us an occasional line. There’s a lot to discuss here.

“she had him at hello” - … you got that right, Lucio. He's there for her. And she’s ready to jump him if he gives her the green light. All done in a sweet way. Not the usual man in hot pursuit of the woman, or a woman portrayed as an evil slut.

Once again, “A lot of clues, a lot of possibilities”. Lucio, I like your idea about Lacin being the fourth person there. I would hate for her to be the killer. ITA, there was a very quick flash and it looked like the perp had light hair.

The writer, Sema Ergenekon, is very good. She’s worked on some classic dizis. Big international hits, including one of my favorites, Kara Para Aşk. BTW, she’s married to the actor who plays Eren.

One of the things that bothers me about the dubbing and the captioning is the mangling of Turkish names. This time the pronunciations are close. novelera, you are correct about Çinar, that has a “ch” sound. Ceylin is the other Turkish “c” which is pronounced like English “j”. Similar sounds. And there are a lot more marks missing, “Gül”, “Laçin”, “Cüneyt”, “Şahver”, “Tuğçe”, and Pars and Neva’s last name is “Seçkin”. I could go on and on.

Don’t know why they leave the diacritics out of the captions. I leave them out of my recaps because Telemundo does, and because I’m lazy. I always include them when I’m referring to real people, actors, writers, etc. The translations from Turkish to Spanish have been surprisingly decent. The translations to English captions are lacking.

Yekta is one of the worst I’ve seen in a while. He’s a psychopath. Lacin tried leaving him but came crawling back when she realized she had no resources of her own. She should run away with Murat, but I think she’s too spoiled by the rich life. Or maybe she’s too afraid of Yekta.

ITA, novelera, Turkish love scenes can be very romantic and enjoyable, without being graphic. But it’s very frustrating when you are watching for weeks or months, just waiting for a real kiss. IMHO, the censorship is getting worse. Productions can get fined for “inappropriate” kissing or “nakedness” in love scenes.

Lately, I’ve noticed they film slightly more provocative scenes and edit them for airing in Turkey and other conservative countries. The uncut scene is released on the internet and included in some international versions. Sex sells, and the Turkish entertainment industry makes their money by selling dizis abroad.

I’m looking forward to Tugce and Eren bonding.

Neva could be the killer. She’s been unraveling since she got to Istanbul. And what is her deal with Cuneyt? Why him?

secrets

Thinking some more about Neva. I would assume her reason for shooting Engin would be the loss of her judicial career should the fact that she'd "played ball" with some wealthy guys so they somehow got away with, I think, a financial crime, be revealed (wow, awkward sentence). And, since she isn't actually bad to the bone, she might have let Ceylin be at home while awaiting trial since she knows she's innocent.

It was sort of a twist since in TNs "other women" are always trying to scuttle the female protagonist.
