Not quite a bombshell, but still some interesting reveals. Thanks so much for another very well done recap!

For some reason I am obsessed with Seda's hair. I like the curls and thought the straightened bob didn't look good on her. Last night she was back to the curls. Is there meaning behind it?

Ozlem, pfft! I'm not surprised Tucge is a fairly messed up kid. She has a coward for a mother. What does she gain but a few days with the lie about where Tugce is? Hopefully the writers won't waste Eren's time with his having a relationship with her. I'm liking Gokzu for Eren! She's not putting up with much crap from Niyazi.

I'm a bit confused. What official role does Seda have? And Yekta besides? Pars is the prosecutor and Ilgaz is the defense attorney for Ceylin. Pars seems to still be digging for another possible murder suspect. Do victims and survivors get legal standing in Turkish legal proceedings?

A while back I would have enjoyed Neva dressing down her brother. Last night I felt very sorry for him. But then I didn't see what he said back to her about not even one of their deaths would bring them together. Thanks for what Telemundo cut, dondi.

I am enjoying Yekta's finding out his doormat wife has a hideout and a likely man in her life. He was beside himself. But I'm worried about what he may do to Lacin. Also, if she had the bucks to somehow have a place of her own, why didn't she just move in there and get away from #1 Toxic Male.

Isn't Parla too young for Cinar. Serdar seemed to be implying Cinar could lure her in in some way. Why can't Mr. Knows it all Merdan put a stop to Serdar dragging his grandson into trouble. And what's wrong with Cinar anyway? At times he sort of resisted Serdar, but now he's all in and stands a good chance of ending up in prison.

secrets

In a hurry to get my recap up, I neglected to respond to comments. We all get busy with real life, time becomes precious. Thank you, Lucio and novelera and others who have commented along the way, I appreciate the time you take to read my (long) recaps and to write a response.

“… we are still not much closer to who is behind it. The suspects are Yekta, Neva, Cuneyt as an agent of Yekta or Neva, or Merdan who is everywhere.” ITA, Lucio. The more that’s revealed, the more mystery it creates.

“the lab people… don't stand out in our minds like the police do.” I never would have guessed Niyazi either, novelera.

And “why did Engin smile at Niyazi”? I’m sure they knew each other through their jobs. I’m guessing Niyazi became just another in Engin’s collection of people with secrets and a supplier of valuable information. Maybe I missed a cut somewhere.

“I have a hard time adapting myself to Turkish culture at times.” I must admit, I don’t have as hard a time as you, novelera. I’m not Turkish, but I find similarities in my own ethnic group. Maybe it’s why I’m drawn to dizis. Maybe it’s why I find some stuff extremely irritating. Experience.

I also didn’t understand the “three shot” theory. Sometimes I just accept what they tell me.

Add me to the list of those worried about Lacin.

I’m also against Ozlem for Eren and I like your idea of Gokzu, novelera. It will be interesting to see what happens with Eren because as I mentioned, he’s married to the writer IRL! Is she going to write love scenes for him? Would she dare kill his character off the show? Lol

I don’t know much about the Turkish legal system. I suppose the state prosecutes the case on “behalf” of the victim’s family. Seda represents the Tilmens. She’s looking out for their interests and is legally obtaining information. Can a civil case against Ceylin be opened later? Do people in the US retain a lawyer in these instances?

I’m in the minority, but I really like Pars, faults and all. I felt very sorry for him when Neva ripped him apart. His response to Neva was delivered in his usual cool, matter-of-fact way. When he left her office, he leaned on the door and deflated. That was until he spotted older man who seemed to have some importance in the court, and he perked up and went off with him as if nothing happened.

I wish Cinar would stay away from Serdar. I agree, Parla is too young for Cinar. He kind of alluded to that, it was clearer in the Turkish. I hate that Serdar wants to lure her and use her. I would hope Cinar doesn’t let that happen. And Tugce shouldn’t be involved with them either. But she’s had zero guidance in her life. She’s going to cause a lot of trouble for Eren.

Telemundo is cutting more and more. They are also editing the order of scenes. This is extremely annoying.

I haven’t watched last night’s show yet. Recap up later today. Thanks for your patience.

secrets #38 part 1

Nice opening scene, Ceylin cooking in the kitchen, Ilgaz at the table, working on the case. Lot of smiles. Dinner is served.

Ceylin thinks this is the employee’s fault. Ilgaz sees no evidence to support that. They debate. Ceylin wants to speak with Galip. She says they might find a loophole and catch him. Ilgaz says they can’t meet with the plaintiff. Right, Ceylin replies, but he has no lawyer, he doesn’t know that. Will we ignore his rights because he doesn’t know, Ilgaz asks. She says she’ll back off. He questions her methods. He even rearranges the dishes she put in the dishwasher. Somehow this leads to kisses in the kitchen.

Cinar comes home and Defne is on her way out. She’s going to ask Ilgaz for help with her homework. Cinar says to let him rest, he will help her instead. Nope, Defne misses Ilgaz. She’s going to see him. Cinar follows her.

Ceylin answers the door. Defne cheerfully greets her, but Cinar thinks they might be intruding. He tries to get Defne to return downstairs. Defne complains, I told you I want to see my brother. She enters the apartment. Ceylin asks Cinar, are you going to just stand there? He reluctantly enters.

Defne hugs Ilgaz. They missed each other. Cinar explains, she said she needed help with her homework, I wanted to help but she refused. He tries to get Defne to go downstairs again.

She ignores Cinar. I saw you entering the house, she says, I have something to show you. It’s a drawing of a dress. I’m going to wear it to your wedding, she says. She asks Ceylin, when are you getting married? Ceylin fumbles for an answer. I don’t know, Ceylin replies. This doesn’t deter Defne. What will your wedding dress be like, she asks. Ceylin responds, maybe….white?

Ceylin asks, what’s the point of a wedding? Defne asks, there’s a wedding when you get married, right? We’ll see, Ilgaz replies. Ceylin answers back, what’s with “we’ll see”? Defne says she will dance with Cinar at the wedding. So many questions, Ilgaz says. Can I kiss you here and there? He kisses her cheeks. Uncomfortable Cinar says he’s going downstairs and asks Defne to come.

Coffee in the morning. Ceylin says she couldn’t sleep. She had nightmares about buying a wedding dress. Your aunt, my mother, my sister took me so I could wear a dress I didn’t like. And worse, my father was there! Ilgaz laughs. She doesn’t find it funny. My mom yesterday, then your dad, and Defne last night. It’s a shame…that little girl dreams big. [By the look, I think Ilgaz is dreaming too]

Ceylin continues, meetings, kisses, weddings, but no one asks what we want. I couldn’t sleep from the stress. What can we do, Ilgaz replies, hands will be kissed, you’ll choose a dress, we’ll dance… What? Are you serious, she asks. He is.

She wants to go, they are late. He stops her—you don’t have to run away. The signatures were made. May the words given be kept. Remember that you signed, too, she says. If we are going to burn, we burn together.

On their way out, Ilcey run into Merdan, who is waiting to take Defne to school. He enthusiastically greets Ceylin, oh, avukat gelin, you were here? Welcome to our humble home. They shake hands then hug. Thank you, I hope, she replies. You make everything pleasant even if you don’t think so, Merdan says.

Ceylin thanks him for his support while she was in prison. He laughs, but it really didn’t work. But she says it meant a lot. Merdan tells her he’d like to talk someday and get to know her. Ilgaz moves things along. He doesn’t address his grandfather. Metin has been watching from the window in disapproval.

secrets #38 part 2

Ceylin was charmed by Merdan. Ilgaz says his grandfather is more likeable from a distance. She thinks it’s nice that he takes Defne to school. Ilgaz doesn’t agree. I wonder when you are going to tell me about your love for your grandfather and his story from the past. There’s no need, Ilgaz replies, you will discuss it yourselves. He switches the subject, will you tell me what happened in prison? She sighs and they drive off.

Seda catches up with Cuneyt. Ece told her that Neva testified, and the reports are in the system. Thanks for letting me know, he flatly replies and starts walking. She follows. She wonders, what did Neva say, why did she visit Engin? What was she doing in the ambulance? I’m dying to know… and I think you know.

Don’t be silly, how should I know, Cuneyt sharply answers. Ah, doesn’t a person know where his girlfriend is and what she’s doing, Seda asks, or is this an open relationship? There’s nothing obvious between us, he firmly states, we met a couple of times, that’s all. Excuse me, I have a lot of work. Seda stops him. Take it easy, bright boy, I won’t tell Yekta.

Ilcey knock at Galip’s door. A little girl answers. Who are you? We are lawyers, Ceylin replies, can we talk to your father? The girl looks worried. Her mother comes to the door. Ilgaz asks to speak with Galip. The woman says he just left for the medical center. She invites them in. She whispers to the girl, go find your father, and don’t come back until they are gone. The girl panics, are they going to take me? The woman assures her that no one will take her.

Yekta tells Seda that a glove was found. That’s what she was coming to tell him. Let’s go to the courthouse and crush their theory about a third person, he says, Ceylin will be locked up again.

Aylin and Osman come out the door the same time as Ziver and Zumrut leave their building. Ziver notices aloofness from Aylin. Did you argue, he asks Zumrut. No, she replies, she must be in a bad mood. Aylin asks Osman if he spoke with Zumrut. No, he says. She asks, you’re not thinking about it? Maybe the baby… Osman cuts her off—I’m not thinking about it and don’t you.

Galip returns and his wife fills him in. Lawyers are here. Someone from the factory said you hurt yourself on purpose. A lie, Galip immediately claims, who would do this to himself? Ceylin says the expert didn’t find the company completely guilty. Blame is shared because you didn’t wear safety goggles. Half the blame is yours. He asks, but I’ll be compensated, won’t I? Half at most, Ceylin replies.

Ceylin wants to make a deal. Galip says no way. Ilgaz looks uncomfortable. She presses Galip. If you don’t make a deal, it could take years to get any money. It could be rejected. Or you could get less than what the company offers. Think about it. I need all the money, Galip says. Ilgaz asks why. That’s all Galip has to say. We’ll go to court tomorrow and leave it to fate. Ilcey leave.

Ilgaz is ticked at Ceylin. Where did you come up with this make an offer? The trial is tomorrow and it’s obvious we won’t win, so you decided to make a deal. Why did we take this case? I’m turning into you. Ceylin claims she did it to learn Galip’s intentions, to see if he’s okay with it.

The little girl stops them. Don’t take me, she cries. I want this mother and father. I don’t want to go. Dad will get the money and hire the best lawyer. They won’t hand me over to them! They are not my family, I’ve never seen them. Galip raised me with Aydan. They aren’t your real parents, Ceylin asks. The girl says no but she loves them very much and they love her.

secrets #38 part 3

Ilgaz tells the girl she misunderstood. We’re not taking you from your parents. Are you going to help us, the girl asks. Ceylin answers yes. Ilgaz shoots her a look. The girl says he will pay when he gets his money from the accident. The mother calls the girl, Melike…come home. Melike runs off.

Yekta and Seda come to Pars’ office. As they are about to start, Eren knocks and enters. He excuses himself to wait. Yekta says we know Ilgaz Kaya went to the crime scene the day after the murder. Pars acknowledges that and notes Yekta already filed a complaint. Yekta brings up the recent discovery of the glove and a male genotype. Yekta accuses Ilgaz of planting evidence to establish suspicion of a third person to save Ceylin. He requests a DNA test for Ilgaz to be compared to that found on the glove.

Pars’ reaction is one of frustration. Yekta accuses Pars of favoring “his friend”. Did he do it or not, Yekta asks, I want to know. If he went to the scene, he’s a suspect. I’m requesting a DNA sample from Ilgaz. Alright, Pars answers, we’ll collect it. Now take your insinuations and baseless accusations and go away.

Seda asks if Pars thinks this is an improper request. He doesn’t. He adds, what I find improper is that you tirelessly insinuate that I am involved in nepotism. Yekta says they apologize for this misunderstanding.

Eren comes in and Pars tells him about Yekta’s request.

Neva issues a verdict: The defendant, Sadik Murdan, is sentenced to life in prison, in accordance to the law. The defendant’s family is outraged. One of them grabs a gun from a gendarme. I’ll kill you all! He points it at Neva.

Pars continues to complain about Ilgaz to Eren. They hear a gunshot. They head to the hallway. It’s Neva’s trial! Pars and Eren run to the courtroom.

Neva’s been shot in the arm. The gunman grabs her and drags her out into the hallway. He holds the gun on her. You condemned my brother! Pars appears. Neva! The gunman warns, don’t come closer! Pars tells him to lower the gun. I’m a DA, he says, I’ll convince her to accept a plea. All the while Pars steps closer and closer. Calm down, lower the gun. Back off or I’ll shoot, the gunman warns.

Eren approaches from another angle. That’s long enough for Pars to jump the gunman. He beats him up for good measure. Eren has to pull him away. Eren takes hold of the gunman. Pars rushes to Neva. He asks to call an ambulance. Neva passes out.
Ilcey talk about Galip’s family matter. A custody matter. It’s a shame the child is stuck in the middle.

Ilcey arrive at the courthouse and see the commotion. Eren fills them in. Ilgaz is concerned about Neva. Eren says she will be okay. Pars went to the hospital with her. He asks why they came. Ilgaz says it’s not important now. Ceylin asks Ilgaz if he wants to go to the hospital. No, he replies, Pars wouldn’t want to see me there. I’ll call Neva later. Let’s work on Galip’s case. She reminds him she’s suspended. He can go in and she’ll wait outside.

Yekta is back in his office. He’s drinking. He tells Cuneyt that Lacin has someone else in her life. I want you to find that guy…. as soon as possible. [Maybe Cuneyt already knows?]

Ilgaz returns and tells Ceylin there’s a case in Family Court. The bio family wants the girl back. Ilgaz looked into them. It won’t be easy for Galip. Ceylin says, we’ll talk to them. Ilgaz agrees and Ceylin congratulates him because he’s acting like a lawyer.

Eren sits with Pars at the hospital. Pars says, I was scared. I was afraid something would happen to her. True love hides behind anger. Fear is close by. Pars tries not to cry. Eren puts his hand on Pars’ back. Pars is grateful. Thank you my dear friend, you’re a wonderful person.

secrets #38 part 4

Ilcey speak with the woman in the custody case. She asks about Galip’s case. An accident at work, Ilgaz says. Hmm… I bet it has to do with his eye, the woman says and asks, how can I help you. It’s a case you filed against him to identify paternity and correct a record. We came to inquire about it, Ceylin says. The woman asks, how will what I say affect him? Ceylin says he will lose.

The woman begins, nine years ago, Salih and I were lovers. He was a grad student, and my parents didn’t like him. I don’t know what my father did, but Salih was sent to Germany with his uncle. I didn’t know I was pregnant when he left. I hid it from my family. My parents went to a cabin, and I stayed in Istanbul.

Aydan, who cleaned our apartment, found out I was pregnant. I didn’t want kids, so we made a deal. I gave birth in secret. She took the baby and I never saw her again. I was very young. I went back to school, back to my life. Six years ago, Salih came back. We fell in love again. I didn’t listen to my family and I married him.

Ceylan asks, you met the child’s father again and married? Yes, the woman responds, I worked up the courage and told him. Ilgaz comments, you kept it a secret all these years. That doesn't matter now, she replies. We decided to get our daughter back. This is where she belongs. We want her. Ilgaz says it’s like she’s talking about a bed table. The woman says, she’s my daughter. After eight years, Ilgaz adds.

What’s going on, the woman asks. We want to raise my daughter here. Not in that house with so few resources. I gave birth to her. No one can change the fact she’s your daughter, Ceylin says. Ilgaz asks, have you asked your daughter what she wants? What can an 8 year old want, she replies, she doesn’t know the truth. She doesn't know the truth, Ilgaz says, but she knows love and where she belongs.

The woman stands up. She doesn’t like Ilcey’s attitude. She wants her daughter away from that one eyed man and washer woman. You’re right, Ilgaz says, you’re just 8 years late.
Ilcey leave the apartment and a woman from across the hall opens her door, looks at Ceylin, and shuts the door.

Ceylin is surprised by what Ilgaz said to the woman. She’s acting like she’s buying things for her house, he says. Ceylin agrees. Melike is like a whim to her. What do we do, Ilgaz asks, things are getting complicated. Let’s tell Galip we know the truth. Make him confess, Ceylin asks. Ilgaz thinks it’s the only way to win.

Pars is taking good care of Neva. She apologizes to him. He apologizes to her. I felt so helpless when I saw you, he says, I thought I couldn’t protect you. [In the argument, Neva said she didn’t care about being “entrusted” to Pars. He feels a big responsibility for her.] You are… you are my only relative. I have no one but you. Mom, Dad, family, sibling, you’re all I have. I have to support you no matter what.

Neva says, I was very scared, too. While he held me at gunpoint, you jumped in to protect me. I’m not going to lie. It felt nice to see you loved me so much. It’s over now, he tells her, we’re both going to be okay. We’re together now. He hugs her.

Ilcey pull up to Galip’s house. They see the family leaving in the snowy weather. Galip is carrying Melike on his back. Ceylin gets emotional. Let’s get him the compensation. They need the money. But he’s guilty, Ilgaz notes, it’s unlawful for a deliberate accident. She questions him about being a DA again. It’s a big company, she says, they’ll pay.

secrets #38 part 5

Ilgaz says that Ceylin has a big heart, but the company men are innocent. What did they do wrong? If we let ourselves get emotional, let’s not call ourselves lawyers. She’s upset. Why do you want to win so much, she asks, so you won’t lose your first case? Fine then—go tell them. They won’t get the compensation. Make them give the child over to a cold-hearted mother.

What makes you think I want that to happen, Ilgaz asks, what’s that got to do with being a lawyer and wanting to win? It’s like you don’t know me. She continues, they need the money for the child. He sacrificed his eye. What father would do this for his child? She’s not even his flesh and blood. You can’t be so strict. Ilgaz gets out of the car. Ceylin starts to drive away.

Eren brings flowers for Neva. Pars brings her soup. He offers to feed her [good grief] She can manage herself. Pars takes Eren aside to talk. Eren says he’s meeting with Ilgaz. He adds that Ilgaz sends his best wishes for Neva. I asked for Niyazi, Eren says, Ilgaz will go in the morning for the sample. But I couldn’t tell him over the phone. Pars says he will go with Eren.

Neva calls Cuneyt. He was very worried about her. I’ll come see you, he tells her.
Ilcey are back in the office. Ilgaz says he will do things her way. She asks if he’s doing it for her or because he wants to. Ilgaz says Galip’s intentions are innocent, he’s doing it for the girl. The money will be obtained illegally, and the reputation of the company will be damaged.

Ceylin is like, whatever. She takes a towel, sits on his lap, and starts to dry his hair. A kiss. [What is it with these two and armchairs?] A knock at the door. Ilgaz knows it’s Eren. He had something important to say face to face.

It’s Eren and Pars. And Pars has a bottle of rakı, to celebrate with the Kaya Law Firm.
Niyazi enters Ilgaz’s old office. Guessing he’s looking for DNA samples.

Pars says the office is nice. Tell me if you need anything and I will bring it, he says. Eren thinks they could use a desk. Ceylin says she already ordered one. Pars says his offer was sincere. It’s the thought that counts, Ilgaz says. Pars asks him how it feels to be on the other side. It’s interesting, Ilgaz replies, but I don’t know yet. I have a trial tomorrow.

Pars says he can’t keep up. We like to do things fast, Ceylin says. Pars tells Ilgaz he better not lose. People will say DAs can’t be lawyers. Losing is part of the profession, Ceylin says, you can’t win every case.

secrets #38 part 6

Ilgaz asks about Neva. Pars says she’s okay. They were scared. Fortunately, Eren was with us. Eren says Pars isn’t telling the whole story. It was a serious incident. I had to drag him away from the gunman.

Time for the real reason for the visit. Pars tells them about Yekta’s request. I need a sample and it will be compared. Ceylin says it’s a waste of time. Don’t get mad, Pars says, let’s drink.

Niyazi finds some hairs on the chair and places them in an evidence bag.

Time to go and Pars asks Ilgaz to see him out. Eren tells Ceylin something about Pars. He’s annoying but he has a big heart. [Turkish: he has a heart like cotton. That’s what they translated into Spanish]

Pars asks Ilgaz if he is happy. Don’t doubt my intentions. But isn’t this ridiculous? Ceylin is free, come back to the DA’s office. Yes, Ceylin can’t practice now and can’t defend herself. We’ll find her a good lawyer. Are you confused? We’ll tell Prof. Sahver if we have to.

I’m in a different mood now, Ilgaz replies, I feel freer and stronger than ever. It’s like I’m on a new journey. He puts his hand on Pars’ arm. I hope that someday you’ll experience that love too. Oh my, Pars says, I’ve never experienced it. I really don’t know if it’s my destiny. But you get upset when you see all your efforts and endeavors slipping away. If you say so, Ilgaz. There’s a hug and Ilgaz thanks Pars.

Niayzi walks home and is accosted by the loan shark guys. They knock him out and take him. We see the evidence bag in the snow.

Next morning everyone wonders where Niyazi is. Gokzu takes the sample. Metin walks by and wonders what’s going on. Ilgaz fills him in. Metin asks Eren if Ilgaz went to the crime scene. Yes, he did.

And we are out.

secrets

I'm having some technical problems. I might not have Friday's recap up until Sunday.
Sorry about this.

Secrets #38

Thank you, dondi356.

As soon as Yekta brought up the glove and said that it could be Ilgaz who planted it, I knew it was an opportunity for Niyazi to tamper with the evidence. They teased us at the end showing that Niyazi dropped Ilgaz's sample.

While the main drama plays out Ilcey are handling their law practice cases. Reminds me of many lawyer and police dramas on English language TV. This time it is Galip's case.

I can't believe Ceylin left Ilgaz alone on the street near Galip's house and drove off! And it was snowing! One had better not disagree with Ceylin.

It was odd that Pars wanted to go with Eren to inform Ilgaz about the DNA testing and have some Raki. But he was glad Neva was OK, reconciled with her and was in a friendly mood. Just a few days ago he argued in front of a judge against releasing Ceylin from prison.

secrets

Thanks so much, dondi for another great recap! Actually I'm kind of glad Friday's isn't up yet. I was away celebrating some July family birthdays and had no opportunity to read your recap nor put up a comment until this evening.

I'm finding Ilgaz and Ceylin to be a good team. He puts the brakes on her more reckless impulses {well, sometimes}, and she is offering him tips from her experience as a trial attorney.

Ah, Cinar. Because you're somehow drawn to Serdar like a moth to a flame, you're losing out on family support. I got the impression he was too ashamed of himself to come into the same space as Ilgaz and Ceylin. It took Defne to drag him in.

I'm starting to trust Seda to outsmart Yekta in the end.

They are humanizing Pars at a good clip. I enjoyed last night's convo with the raki.

I'm starting to get really tired of Metin. What's the matter with the guy? He's so hung up on his ideas of what's right that he can't seem to understand that Ilgaz loves Ceylin too much to stay away from a crime scene in case he might be able to help her.

My fingers are crossed Yekta doesn't get his way about Ceylin having to be back in prison until the trial. Of course I have no idea how long it takes for a trial to take place after a murder. It seems to take years in the U.S.

Yekta's apparent outrage about Lacin having someone else in her life has absolutely nothing to do with love. I guess it's just no one else can handle his toys, even if he's broken a few of them.

secrets

Thank you, Lucio and novelera.

“While the main drama plays out Ilcey are handling their law practice cases.” Yes, I like that, Lucio. Life goes on, people need to make a living, there are bills to be paid.

“It was odd that Pars wanted to go with Eren to inform Ilgaz about the DNA testing and have some Raki. But he was glad Neva was OK, reconciled with her and was in a friendly mood.” - could be what Neva told him really hit home and he’s trying to change.

“Ah, Cinar… drawn to Serdar like a moth to a flame.” - good analogy, novelera. After everything he’s been through, even getting his father involved in his crap, he’s still with that moron. He’s not ashamed enough.

I get tired of Metin, too, novelera. He’s disappointed in his “golden boy.” Boo hoo. But Ilgaz took a big risk going to the crime scene and right now it looks like a bad choice. He gave an opening to Yekta. I have faith that it will all work out in the end.

“Yekta's apparent outrage about Lacin having someone else in her life has absolutely nothing to do with love. I guess it's just no one else can handle his toys, even if he's broken a few of them.” - ITA.

Telemundo cut a scene where Yekta was in his office, drinking. A woman was shown walking down the hall. From behind, she looked like Lacin. And when she appeared in front of Yekta, he saw her as Lacin. He raged at her and forced her grovel at his feet, and beg for forgiveness. Of course, this wasn’t Lacin, she was just a “companion” for the evening.

Secrets # 39 part 1

Quote for Turkish ep #19: "The hardest thing to learn in life is which bridge to cross and which to burn." - David Russell

Warning: My TV reception was barely watchable Friday night, no captions. The Telemundo site gave me problems, too. I couldn’t find a captioned Turkish ep and my Turkish is rudimentary. Please make corrections and/or additions.

Aylin confronts Zumut about her pregnancy. Whether Zumrut likes it or not, they are going to find out who is the father of her baby. Aylin wants a paternity test.

Serdar gives final instructions for the big job. This was never entirely clear to me, but I think each of them is responsible for picking up and delivering some kind of merchandise. He says Tugce was supposed to find a “safe house”, so she must wait. Either Parla or Merve have to do this first. He tosses a coin to decide. Serdar cheats and it’s Parla.

Trial day for brand new lawyer Ilgaz. Ceylin sits in the gallery. The judge has all the documentation. He asks if the plaintiff has anything to say. Galip rises, no… I will be pleased with any outcome. Ilgaz stands, he would like to make an additional statement. We don’t have concrete evidence, but I’m saying that the plaintiff, Galip Gunus, blinded himself on purpose.

The judge says there’s nothing like this on record. Let’s not break with procedures. Ilgaz brings up the custody case and the fact that Galip needs money for it. The judge asks Galip if this is true. Ceylin looks worried. Galip nods to confirm the custody case. The judge asks if Galip had the accident on purpose. Galip admits he did. Ilgaz looks at Ceylin. She looks disappointed.

Engin’s funeral. Merdan pays his respects to Yekta, and Yekta thanks him by name. Seda takes note.

Ceylin lets Ilgaz have it outside the courtroom. I can’t believe it. You promised me. You did this for ambition? A monster came out of you. Ilgaz asks her to calm down. I didn’t mean them any harm, he replies.

Galip and family approach Ilcey. He thanks Ilgaz and shakes his hand. As you said, a big weight fell off me, I can’t tell you. Aydan adds, may God be pleased with you. We didn’t receive illegal money. Ilgaz says he will look for the POA. Wait outside.

Ceylin wonders what happened. We get the flashback. Ilgaz spoke with Galip before returning to the office. I don’t doubt your intention, he tells Galip, but if this comes out, and it will, they will not pay you the money. You will be accused of obstruction of justice. You would have to return any money you received with interest.

Galip says he did everything for Melike. They couldn’t afford a lawyer. One would give his life for his child, he tells Ilgaz. In my case, my eye. Ilgaz understands and says there are other ways to do this. I’ll be your lawyer. I’ll defend you and Melike will stay in this house and be your daughter. End flash. Ceylin says, Iove you, and gives Ilgaz a big hug.

I wasn’t clear on the convo between Pars, Eren and Metin. Something about the guy who shot Neva. I don’t know if they charged him with a lesser crime or if Pars was in trouble for beating up the shooter.

Goksu brings her report to Pars, Eren and Metin. The hair on the glove and Ilgaz’s sample are a 100% match.

The POA for Galip is done. Ilgaz assures Melike she will stay with Galip and Aydan.

Ceylin calls Eren. He doesn’t answer. Metin says there must have been an error on the DNA test. It should be redone. Eren agrees and says there’s no need to worry Ilcey now. Ceylin leaves a message for Eren. Ilgaz is not worried about the result, he knows it can’t be a match.

secrets # 39 part 2

Ceylin congratulates Ilgaz on his new case. But he only has two days to prepare. Just like the accident case, Ceylin notes. Ilgaz says this isn’t the final hearing. There’s the psych assessment and the judge will want to talk to Melike.

The funeral is over and Lacin tells Yekta she’s going straight home. Merdan passes by and Seda asks Yekta, who is that man? An old friend, Yekta replies. How old, she asks. I just buried my son, he answers, I’m tired. He is who he is. You know he’s Ilgaz’s grandfather, she states. He admits he knows Merdan Kaya. And you act like it’s nothing, she says, he’s on the side with murderers.

Yekta says Merdan doesn’t scare him. We have an agreement. I don’t bother him, and he doesn't bother me. Yekta notes that Seda looks worried. He asks, what did Merdan Kaya do to you? She replies, I’m interested in story behind this agreement. What kind of dirt are you hiding? He warns her, too much curiosity is bad. Don’t open the box or the dirt will end up on you.

Yekta notices Murat placing his hand on Lacin’s arm in a familiar way and notes the look on his face. He’s suspicious.

Ilcey talk about the custody case. He wonders why Ipek wants Melike so suddenly. Ceylin says this will be a hard case to win. The bio family is favored, unless there’s a hidden agenda or problems taking care of the child, like drug addiction. Something that puts the child at risk. We lack proof, Ilgaz says, we should look at previous cases that have been decided against the bio family. Then we can prove that her adoptive family can care for her better.

Eren and Metin go to the lab. They meet Goksu and Niyazi shows up looking worse for the wear. What happened to you? We get the flashback. Niyazi is beaten. After the guys leave him, he retrieves the specimen. End flash.

Niyazi plays it off, he had a fight with a cousin. Eren asks is that why you weren’t here to take the sample? Niyazi says he was at the station, but in the break room having breakfast. He accuses Goksu of being too eager and rushing with the sample.

Flashback. Goksu works on Ilgaz’s sample. It’s ready. Niyazi enters the lab and tells her to take a break. He messes with the sample. End flash.

Goksu defends herself. I rushed?! I swear I didn’t see Niyazi this morning. Pars said to take the sample, so I did. Metin hands over the order to redo the test. Niyazi will do it.

Ilcey continue talking about the custody case. Ipek’s home is nice. She has the economic edge. Money isn’t everything, Ceylin says. She’s not sure about the “energy” from Ipek or her home. She notes how the neighbor opened and closed her door quickly when she saw her. Ilgaz mentions the broken mirror and marks on the wall. Ilcey decide to go back.

Ceylin says she’s enjoying working Ilgaz. They argue, but they come to a consensus. Ilgaz counts coming to agreement with her as a huge achievement. She says he’s learning faster than she expected. Snarky talk leads to kisses.

Metin and Eren watch while the DNA test is done. Metin is very unhappy with Eren. He blames him for not preventing Ilgaz from going to the crime scene. We wouldn’t be here now. Ilgaz never listens to me, he notes. You should have stopped him. Look at this now. You make mistakes and hide behind excuses.

Eren says Ilgaz went but he only looked. Yes, Metin replies, and I never would have thought he would quit being a DA to become a lawyer. Eren says that’s different. Metin begs to differ. Whatever he does is to save Ceylin. That’s the only thing that matters to him. Eren reminds him this is Ilgaz. Goksu is a rookie. You’ll see that Ilgaz had nothing to do with this. We’ll see, Metin replies.

secrets # 39 part 3

Pars comes to Ilcey’s office. He doesn’t stand on ceremony. Ilgaz knows it’s bad news. Pars says it is and he shouldn’t even be there. He tells Ilgaz he was a match. Ilgaz says that’s impossible. Pars says, yes, but it’s in the report.

Ceylin thinks it makes no sense, it’s an error. Ilgaz thinks it could be a plot. We’ll see, says Pars, right now they are retesting. Ilgaz asks how did you convince the judge? I asked, Pars replies, and I paid your bail. Pars thinks it’s a plot, but what happens in the meantime? He tells Ilgaz, Yekta knew a while ago you went to the crime scene. He filed the complaint, there were witnesses to say you were there.

Ceylin says she didn’t know any of this. You were in custody, Ilgaz tells her. He understands that Pars is angry, and he thanks him for his help. He adds, the policemen who were there know I didn’t touch anything.

Do you forget about this report, Pars asks. Yes, because I didn’t touch anything, Ilgaz replies. The focus is on Ceylin not me. Ilgaz says that Yekta is trying to debunk the third person theory. He wants her back in prison immediately.

I know, Pars replies, but I wasn’t the one who started the investigation. Sometimes you attack me like I was one of them. You put me in an awkward situation, my hands are tied. They said you changed the evidence so she (Ceylin) could go free. Can you put yourself in my place for once? What would you do with this application and evidence? You’d send it to court, wouldn’t you?

If you’re not sure, Ilgaz says, then wait. It’s your right as a DA. Thanks, Pars quips, I already have 12 years of experience in this position, I know that. Pars says the report will stay with him. No one will know until the second test is done. Pray for a good result. The three leave for the station.

Serdar and co. are still together. A man is watching them from a distance. Serdar asks, everyone knows what to do, right? This is the last time we’ll see each other for a while. Cinar asks if it’s safe. Any risks? [Ay, Cinar, you ask now?] Trust me, Serdar replies, have no doubt.

Cut: we find out that the man was sent by Merdan to tail Cinar. He tells Merdan that the kids were just hanging out. Merdan says to keep an eye on Cinar.

Pars tells Ilcey they can’t come into the lab. I called Eren, he says the results should be ready soon. Go wait in the restaurant across the way. It’s not good for the police to see us together all the time. Ceylin isn’t sure if Pars loves them or hates them. Ilgaz says what Pars is doing is not easy. He’s putting himself in danger.

Ilcey sit and wait at the restaurant. Ceylin looks discouraged. Ilgaz tells her it will all work out. Pars enters the restaurant and sits on the opposite side. He gets a call from Eren. Unfortunately, the results of the second test are the same. Pars asks Eren to come to the restaurant. Eren and Metin head over.

Metin wonders why Ilcey are there. It’s a free country, Pars replies, people can eat wherever they want. Metin says [Turkish] let them eat but let them not eat their own liver. Pars asks Eren if he watched the lab procedure. Yes, Metin says, and the result was the same whether we were there or not. Pars thinks someone must have changed the sample. That’s the only explanation. But who? Who would dare cheat justice?

Ilcey look over at the three men. Ilgaz is sure they are saying the sample was changed. Just like we lost the jacket. There’s a lot to investigate. Ceylin says he should be sitting at that table. Ilgaz tells her he’s happy where he is.

secrets # 39 part 4

Eren says either there’s a ghost or a traitor. He brings up the jacket. Metin states there was nothing to suspect there. Eren wonders about that. Pars remembers when they took two blood samples from Yekta’s house, and one disappeared. He asks, who do we trust inside? Eren trusts Niyazi, he’s been with them for years.

Metin agrees. Niyazi’s father was also a policeman. It’s a very honest and decent family. If someone inside did this, we could find him using someone else inside. Pars tells Eren to call Niyazi. Eren still wants to consider someone from the outside. Pars says fine, but one step at a time.

Zumrut calls Osman to meet. She tells him Aylin wants a paternity test. Zumrut does not want to take any test. She wants Osman to stop her. She walks away.

Niyazi comes to the restaurant. Metin starts by telling him that something strange is going on at the lab. Someone inside or outside is changing the samples. Do you think that’s possible? Niyazi doesn’t believe so. He pauses and adds, it’s difficult but it’s not impossible. Metin says they will investigate everyone.

Pars states this must be carried out undercover. We must find who sold out. Not just for us but for the peace of the police station. Nervous Niyazi leaves, and Pars asks Eren, are you sure we can trust him? Why do you ask, Eren replies. I don’t know, Pars answers, but okay. Eren says he’ll go back to the station and look at security footage around the lab and in the hallways. Metin leaves with Eren.

Pars goes to Ilcey’s table. If you saw our table, you know the result. Ilgaz thinks they are close to getting the murderer and it doesn’t suit someone. Pars says something happened in the crime lab, but we will find who did it. What I will ask is you recognize my efforts and my goodwill. Step back. Don’t do anything crazy. I’m begging you not to complicate things more. I’m going to court. Don’t meddle. Go on a honeymoon or someplace else, but don’t mess with this. Please.

Ilgaz follows Pars out of the restaurant and stops him. Yekta will oppose Ceylin’s freedom while awaiting trial. Pars knows. Ilgaz says, remember that we didn’t ask that the glove be investigated, but rather the cigarette butts and the prints that are still intact. Ah, you want to use that, Pars replies. It’s just a reminder, Ilgaz says. Pars says not to worry.

Ceylin is worried for Ilgaz. You could go to trial for hiding evidence. You could be sentenced. Forget about being a DA, you wouldn’t be able to be a lawyer ever again. Ilgaz assures her that’s not going to happen. Those 3 are going to find the truth. I never used that glove, and they (the prosecution) will have to prove it (that he did). [I thought of OJ’s trial. If it doesn’t fit, you must acquit.]

Ceylin can’t be calm. The truth will come to light, Ilgaz tells her, right now we can’t do anything more. We will go back to work, that will help a little. She can’t understand why he’s so calm. Your life, your reputation, everything is in danger, and we know it’s because of Yekta. But we should sit and wait for the truth?

They are doing everything they can, Ilgaz replies, sometimes waiting is good. Pars spoke sincerely, he asked us to wait. We’ve already caused a lot of problems for him. Do you doubt his goodwill? He already proved he supported us. Eren and Dad are there. They are a strong team and have a good plan. Let them carry it out.

Ilgaz reminds her, Yekta is lurking. Let’s not give him another advantage. We will wait. We have a hearing in two days. I looked a little girl in the eyes and told her I’d do my best. I promised her father. We have a promise to keep. Ceylin finally relents.

secrets # 39 part 5

Yekta comes to see Pars. He has a problem with Lacin. I hope you didn’t come to complain about your wife, Pars cracks. Yekta wishes he could laugh at that but it’s serious. We both know that Lacin wasn’t in Sile the day Engin was killed. Pars says the records showed she was in Kadikoy.

And that’s why I’m afraid you will have to call her to testify again, Yekta says. I don’t know how to say this, but she won’t tell me, her own husband, where she was. She could be hiding something. You’ve been married for years, Pars replies, you should have an idea. He does. Yekta says, I think she’s the reason Engin escaped.

You think so, Pars asks. Yes, it’s strange, Yekta says, I don’t want Lacin to get in trouble [who’s he kidding?], but I’m also a father and I have a heart. I deserve to know if she was involved. Ask her so we can find out where she was and whom she was with. That’s reasonable, Pars replies, have her come tomorrow. Yekta leaves.

Ilcey arrive at Ipek’s building. Ceylin is still worked up, I’m their primary suspect, you cast doubt on their case, and yet here we are. Do lawyers work more than one case at a time, Ilgaz asks. We usually work 3 to 5 at once, she replies. Then this is the same, Ilgaz says, I’m going to keep my promise. I sent a message to Eren. They need to find out if it’s an inside or outside job. We’ll act accordingly. Ceylin is still obsessed with Yekta. Ilgaz says if it is, we will take him to court.

There’s a moving van outside the building. It looks like the neighbor woman is moving out. They approach her. They pretend to be a couple looking to rent a place. Are you renting? She says the realtor is upstairs.

Ilgaz asks, what is the place like? And the neighbors? My wife hates arguments. Look elsewhere, the woman tells them. Why, it looks like a nice neighborhood, Ilgaz replies. The neighborhood is nice, the woman says, but the neighbors across the apartment are not. I’m moving because of them. They are always arguing and shouting. The man cheated on his wife with a coworker. Then the coworker broke into their apartment. There was a huge argument.

Ilgaz says she should have called the police. I did, the woman replies, they were taken to the police station. After that, Ipek had the woman fired. When did this happen, Ilgaz asks. About 7 months ago. Maybe they made up, Ilgaz asks. Nope. Things were quiet for a month, she says, then it went back to usual. Ilcey has what they need.

Yekta returns to Pars’ office. He remembered something. The test results. Pars grudgingly slaps them down in front of Yekta. If I didn’t ask you wouldn’t have shown me, Yekta says. Pars denies this. I disclose everything! I’m trying to be nice, but you always take things too far. You have to wait like everyone else.

Yekta reads the results. He laughs. I told you so. Rookie lawyer Ilgaz fabricated evidence to save his wife. How shameful! This great romance will end soon. Are you finished, Pars asks. No, Yekta declares, Ceylin can’t be free before the trial starts. Process my objection immediately! Present one in writing, Pars says, I only recently received this report. I’m going to read it first and then I’ll consider what to do.

What’s there to consider, Yekta asks, it’s a match to Ilgaz. This also casts doubt on the footprint. Isn’t that what he used to protect Ceylin? He said there was someone else at the scene. If someone placed a glove at the scene, they could have left a footprint. It could be Ilgaz’s. I demand this be investigated immediately! Has he testified yet? This is suspicious!

secrets # 39 part 6

Yekta accuses Pars of playing favorites. He says, you seem to refuse to do anything to hurt him (Ilgaz). How dare you, Pars responds, you’re taking this too far! That’s enough. Okay, I understand, Yekta replies, I’ll handle this myself. I’ll ask the judge to arrest Ceylin again. The lovebirds worked together to tamper with the crime scene. The murderer is free but not for long.

Ceylin comments, that woman had a lot to say. We are looking for a woman who worked with Ipek’s husband, Ilgaz says, look up Salih Soyan on your phone. She can’t find much. Ilgaz mentions they were brought to the police station, there’s a record. You’ll find out, she says unenthusiastically. Are you going to sit and mope, he asks her. There’s only one case that affects us both, she replies. I’m sorry, I can’t focus!

Eren and Metin check out security footage. Eren says these are all the people we know in the crime lab. We could have a rat among us. Metin says to single out everyone who works on the lab floor. We know the people in the lab, but we’ll investigate them too. We’ll create a list.

Eren calls Ilgaz. It’s not an outsider. It’s an inside job. Ilgaz asks, do you have a name? No, but I will soon. We are putting together a list of suspects. I’ll let you know when it’s ready.

Ilgaz shares this info with Ceylin. There are a lot of people who work there, they are trying to narrow the list. We have to wait again, Ceylin says in frustration. For now, Ilgaz replies. Just so you can protect Pars, she quips. Ilgaz says, he walks a fine line because of us, and I won’t let him stumble.

Yekta sees a judge. He wants Ceylin arrested. The judge says he’s read Yekta’s objection.

And we are out.

secrets

Wow! Dondi, if that's what you do with technical difficulties and no captions, hats off to you! Excellent recap. And thanks for putting in the cut scene of Yekta abusing an "escort" chosen to look like his wife. I want to see that sicko behind bars AFTER all of Istanbul knows he's never passed the bar or finished law school. Dying in the final episode is too good for him.

It looks like Serdar is having the girls take the risks with his big heist or whatever it is. Come on, Merdan, squash him like a bug!

When, oh when, will it ever come out that Serdar knows where Zafer is buried? Or did I dream that scene?

I could have done without Yekta seeing that familiar squeeze of Lacin's arm by the driver and his then plotting to have her blamed for Engin's escape. I'm now leaning toward his hiring Niyazi to murder his own son. He got him out so the 6PM evidence of his lack of a degree from law school would not come out. But he wouldn't want to risk the poisonous little monster not turning on him later.

Again, a gripe about Metin. Where does he get off being so high and mighty about Ilgaz going to the crime scene. He went to another crime scene, burned evidence, and stole the corpse! Eren for Chief of Police!

Secrets

Thank you, dondi356.

[I thought of OJ’s trial. If it doesn’t fit, you must acquit.] LOL.

I think Niyazi went too far. If he just let it go, Ilgaz would be no match and that would be it. But falsely accusing Ilgaz is another matter. It is super suspicious.
