Highlights from the couch
What a night! I felt that not that much happened but they sure talked a lot about it. This may be longer than planned. Please add anything I left out.
PAULA /ROGELIO/ERIKA
Paula has been hesitant about taking the next step to getting a divorce. She agrees to a talk to Ulises' sister Carolina the lawyer at a coffee shop. Paula tells her she loves Rogelio but doesn't know if she can trust him again. The lawyer tells her to think about it and then call her. When she leaves, Erika pops up. Paula doesn't know she is to meet Rogelio there. He has been going with her to her treatments. Erika tells Paula she is going to fight for Rogelio and that she has a real advantage over Paula: Lucas. That is why she came back to Morelia in the first place. Rogelio walks in and Paula cannot believe what she is seeing. Paula storms out and shortly thereafter she tells her lawyer she has decided to go ahead with the divorce. She tells the lawyer she wants nothing from Rogelio, no money. The lawyer seeing herself as being an advocate for her client, goes to inform Rogelio and is open to negotiate a monetary settlement. Rogelio is taken aback and is angry. He tells his mother who tells him that she told him that Paula was only after his money. At Ceciiia's wedding reception, Rogelio confronts Paula about Ulises being there thinking that he came to town to see her. She has to explain that he is responsible for the music at the reception. He later sees Carolina at the wedding and isn't pleased.
IGNACIO/ITURBIDE FAMILY
Martina is surprised that Gabriel Garibay is working for Ignacio because he used to work for and was loyal to her father. He says he is there to talk about what Ignacio wants without him being there. He has come now because he had to prepare Ignacio's case. His client only wants to establish his rights as a son of Hipólito Iturbide, be recognized as Hipólito's son and legally change his last name to Iturbide to do so. Ignacio wants to do a DNA test to facilitate it all. Gabriel adds that the body of Hipólito would have to be exhumed. Martina jumps up and says NO WAY. Gabriel says he knows it is hard but it is the only way to prove paternity. He adds that if they allow Ignacio to use the Iturbide last name, the case will be over very quickly and less painful for everyone. If they decide to go to court, Hipólito will surely be exhumed whether they like it or not. Martina emphasizes that is not going to happen and his client is playing with fire. After Gabriel leaves, Martina complains about how arrogant he has become when he was just another one of her father's employees. Rogelio says they have to keep united and come to an agreement. Gabriel tells Ignacio how arrogant Martina was. Ignacio hired Gabriel because he knew the family well. Gabriel thinks they will try to stall with money but for Martina, the Iturbide name is priceless. Rogelio talks to his lawyer Jaime who tells him they are going to have to exhume Hipólito's body for the DNA. It will take 18 months to do the name change. He thinks that Rogelio should transfer some company shares to Ignacio so that he doesn't come after their property for the full amount he may be due later. Ignacio pays Rogelio a visit. Rogelio tells him about his proposal that seems to be only a financial agreement. Rogelio has sidestepped letting him use the Iturbide name. That does not fly with Ignacio. He wants the name because it comes with family and siblings. Rogelio doesn't see that happening.
Ignacio says he will look over the proposal and see him at the wedding. And see Rogelio at the wedding he does. He takes the microphone and informs the guests that this event is also special to him because inis the first time he has his whole family together. He introduces his four brothers who also are Hipólito Iturbide's sons. You can hear the other guests stating to talks amongst themselves. Then he adds that he doesn't want to forget his "monarch" (Martina) who has been so good to them. The Iturbides are mortified.
EVERYTHING ELSE
Blanca tells Marco that she is going to start dating her friend from school. He is not a happy camper. He goes out to spy on them on their date and calls her just when they are going to kiss. He apologizes for his reaction to her dating. He says he only wants her to be happy. She needs to be sure this boy is the right guy. He then leaves and goes home.
Martina meets with Gabriel (for old times' sake?) She is still mooning over her memories of him. They both seem to like horchata. She is angered by him and the Ignacio situation and leaves.
Cecilia tells Paula that she never signed any promissary note with Ignacio. Once she is married, she will no longer owe him any money. Their school is owned only by her and Paula.
Martina decides to forgive Beatriz if she spies on Irma and Ignacio for her.
Cecilia pays Irma a visit and Irma grabs some pamphlets out of her back pocket. (WEIRD!) She sees they are for houses. She asks Cecilia about it and finds out that Cecilia and Ignacio are planning on moving out to their own home. Later Irma accuses Ignacio of abandoning her and in a few minutes she has turned him into a little boy telling his mother he will never ever leave her. He calls Cecilia and yells at her for upsetting his mother. Cecilia tries to explain but he tells her that is the first and last time she will upset his mother.
Luis meets with Axel his business associate and tells him that he is interested in dating his mother. He grabs Axel's hand while he is telling him and a woman calls Martina to let her know what her son is up to. Axel has no problem with Luis dating his mother. When Luis gets home, Martina accuses him of being gay from what she was told. Luis asks so what if he were. He explains that Axel is gay and was interested in him but he told him he was straight. At the wedding, Luis comes with Aranza and Martina asks if she is his teacher. Martina gossips with her sons about how old she is.
An Iturbide bus full of passengers is attacked by a group of bandits. Nobody was injured. Rogelio will makes sure all of the passengers are compensated. The driver told him that the bandits were odd. They were dressed too well. Of course, Ignacio knows all about the attack. Hmmmm. . .
NB: LUCAS turned into LUIS tonight in my head, so that you know who I am writing about. : )
Jarifa, thank you for an exceptional recap. I agree that not much seemed to happen, but there were a few good highlights. And lowlights.
Erika comes clean and fights dirty, brandishing Lucas like a weapon.
Rogelio is less appealing with each passing episode.
"Martina meets with Gabriel (for old times' sake?)" was great. Martina "moondogging" over Gabriel made me smile. It is impossible to reconcile the young, infatuated girl, stars in her eyes, with the bitter, venemous woman who now stands in her place.
Ignacio is a worm but I sort of enjoyed his calling out his "family" in the most public, humiliating way possible.
"He calls Cecilia and yells at her for upsetting his mother. Cecilia tries to explain but he tells her that is the first and last time she will upset his mother". Are red flags waving wildly in the wind Cecilia??? Surely Cecilia's most unflattering, wrinkled wedding gown, messy hair complete with inexplicable bows were meant to signify she is making a horrible mistake?
Diana
Caray actually started 17 years previously! It'll turn 18 on April 4 next year :)
Thanks, Weirdo, for the info. I discovered Caray in 2013 with “Por ella soy Eva.” Btw, PESE will be starting next week at 4:00 central time on Unimás. They have to finish up La fea first. : )
Poor Cecilia. So Ignacio seems to be using her. But if he really wants to keep her just because she is Paula's friend and thus a link to that crazy family, why shout at her like this? I bet this won't be the last time and he was genuinely angry. But I bet even Ceci must have her limits. The question is where they might be. I did love that public scene, though. Mostly because I can't stand Martina. I rememberwondering if she had killed her husband because her refusal to exhume his body felt too dramatic. So she and her kids prefer to go through the agonising process of court instead of looking for the quickest way to end it. This is rather pathetic, especially as that name is really all Martina has, given that shenow knows her husband was unfaithful to her. She believed she had the perfect family and now it's all gone. But the way her kids go along with whatever she says is both weird and disturbing. I don't like Fernando, but he at least did try. Unlike Rogelio, who just demanded his wife 'give his mummy dearest a chance'. I'm wondering if on some level he actually likes being in charge and being his mother's 'big boy'. Though it's funny that for all his insistence Fernando can make the right decisions, Rogelio doesn't have the strength to go against his mother's wishes for the sake of his wife he claims to love. Meanwhile Fernando did. Rogelio and Ignacio aren't that different in this respect at least. They tend to pick their mothers' side over that of their wife's. Rogelio is all about great gestures and surprises, but when it really counts he doesn't do much. All he does is be jealous and demand explanations.
So is Erica supposed to turn into one of those smart women who get obsessed with one man and then do all kinds of things. It's slightly odd to me that she behaves this way because unlike most other characters of this type, he does know Rogelio doesn't love her because she talks about 'reconquistarlo'. But then again, her friend had to actually tell her the obvious: he might not love you. So I wonder what's happening inside her head. I never understood why these women want a man who doesn't love them and already chose someone else. Don't they feel humiliated having to use all kinds of underhanded methods to keep the man? Erica's speech comes across as an act of a desperate person. Those wh shout the loudest are the ones who know the victory isn't on their side.
It's interesting that once Martina perceives something someone does as a betrayal, her real attituude towards that person and people in general is revealed. It's not that she is simply disappointed by the disloyalty, it's that she sees that lawyer as beneath her, as just her father's employee who was forever in her debt. It's as if he were her slave because her family's help is not given for free. I could understand the disappointment, but she thinks a lot of herself, that one.
What made Paula decide to get divorced? Seeing Erica meet Rogelio or Erica's threats? She went on and on about communication being needed to solve problems and yet she seems to give up pretty easily something she clearly wants without even trying this thing she loves talking about,i.e., talking to her husband and figuring things out.For all her impulsivity, she comes across as a petulant child. Rogelio is even worse so I find it hard to care about these two.
So what does Rogelio offer Ignacio? Money and shares? Just money?
Marco is annoying too. He does something stupid and then apologises. It's like he hasn't learnt to think before he acts
Diana, thanks for your kind words on my recapping marathon. Your comments made me smile this a.m. They were right on target. Not too many untarnished stars left in this group except for Paula, Blanca, Luis? Interesting comment about Cecilia’s appearance as the bride. How long until she realizes she made a big mistake? Will it be at this reception? I totally agree with your “sort of enjoying” that “worm” Ignacio introducing his newly found family to everyone at the reception. I guess we will get more of their reaction tonight. Will they storm out in a huff or just sit and take it? The break up has brought out the worst in Rogelio. They are on the verge of divorce and he is still reminding her she is his wife. What??? Anyway, I cannot wait until tonight!
waterlily, good observation: "Rogelio and Ignacio aren't that different in this respect at least. They tend to pick their mothers' side over that of their wife's". As Ignacio dissolved into tears as his mother put the screws to him last night, he was still her little boy afraid of being abandoned which parallels your description of Rogelio "I'm wondering if on some level he actually likes being in charge and being his mother's 'big boy'." Both of these guys need counseling big time but that will never happen. This novela couldn't be long enough. As for Martina, I agree that it looks like once an employee, always an employee. She likes/liked the Iturbide name. It sounds like Gabriel has her number. A couple of horchatas aren't going to change a thing.
Good morning Jarifa, thank you once again for your invaluable notes! I tell myself everyday I am going to pay more attention to these episodes and then these people start whining and my mind wanders away! Maybe I could pay more attention if it was just one hour??? LOL I am so blessed to have your wonderful notes to tell me what I didn't watch! :)
Ugh! Ericka tells Paula she's willing to fight for Rogelio!!! Just ick! What nerve to tell a woman that you will fight for her husband – I don’t care if they are separated, they are married. And even if you put that aside for a minute Erika admits that she KNOWS that Rogelio is in love with Paula, there’s no denying it; but she’s willing to fight anyway??? Why? So, she can live compromised ever after with a man who doesn’t love her? I am with you Waterlily, I can’t understand the dream of fighting to reunite your family when you KNOW that the man doesn’t love you and you’re up and arms ready to fight for that???? Stupid
If I was in my friend’s house PRIOR to her wedding and I heard her fiancé scream at her I would tell her to RUN!!!!! Paula just takes the phone and tells Ignacio to calm down and then tells Cecelia not to worry, it’s no big deal!?!! Uh no! Couples argue, fight, whatever; but all of that can be done without screaming at one another. No no no no no no, big red flag!! As if we needed another one.
Why would they need to exhume daddy? A DNA test on any one of the brothers compared to Ignacio would tell the story.
Speaking of the wedding, why is everyone there?? They all hate Ignacio. Paula almost disowned Cecelia for getting involved with him, but she sings at their wedding? And Martina and the whole family attend? In what world??? But it was priceless how Ignacio used the opportunity to introduce the world to his new ‘family’. hehehehehehehe
I agree Diana, Rogelio is getting worse every single episode.
Darcy, sad, but I have to admit that it looks like this is going to be in double episodes for the long haul. It looks like Telemundo is doing the same with “Secretos de sangre.” Monkey see, monkey do?
Anyway, glad the notes are useful. The only saving grace is that not much happens in each episode but then again you have to pay attention to who is telling what to whom and who knows what. Great comment on no need for exhumation for DNA test. I guess they needed the possible horror of Hipólito making it up to graveside to add more drama as if more is needed.
"I did love that public scene, though. Mostly because I can't stand Martina" - me too waterlily! Truthfully, I did enjoy Ignacio getting a slap in the face as well!
"If I was in my friend’s house PRIOR to her wedding and I heard her fiancé scream at her I would tell her to RUN!!!!! Paula just takes the phone and tells Ignacio to calm down and then tells Cecelia not to worry, it’s no big deal!?!! Uh no! Couples argue, fight, whatever; but all of that can be done without screaming at one another. No no no no no no, big red flag!! Perfect Darcy, especially "As if we needed another one". And there you have it.
Diana
Weirdo, thank you for the information that Caray, Caray is now over 17!! Time flies so quickly! Jarifa, I can't believe you came in 2013; it feels like you've always been here.
Minas will have Cesar Evora and Osvaldo de Leon, great reasons to watch.
That said, like you, I was really looking forward to Vencer la culpa. Soto as the villain is really something I wanted to see. I hope they air it eventually.
Diana
Jarifa, I don't know how anyone is able to recap nightly. One hour, let alone two is unimaginable. It's only because of your dedication and marvelous recaps that I am able to watch as it's just too much to process.
So what will the "family" do after Ignacio's little speech? I say fight, not flight. Will it be an all out fisticuffs or a war of words? Can't wait to see what transpires...:)
Diana
Jarifa , thank you for yet another fine report on everything that happened .
I agree with all the insightful comments from the others on their couches watching this episode spin out .
Rog and Igy are both big , old mommy's boys . Your husband must always, always have your back , especially against manipulative mothers . Erika seems to be not so nice . And Paula, what is wrong with you telling Ceci everything is okay...when it is definitely not okay to marry a weasel like Igy. I am questioning how intelligent Paula actually is. What I am mostly getting is this PSA : Dont marry a guy you just met who seems fun and normal...because...Rog and Igy.
I focused on the visual and loved a couple things : 1) Fidel dutifully taking notes in his little notebook as Martina blabbed on and on 2) Mario spying on Blanca and her poor date with binoculars ( sorry, I love Mario 3) Rog following Paula into the women's bathroom and kissing her...really writers, is this your idea of romance ??? None of these guys have moves , but I am kind of hopeful about longhaired , soulful surfer dude Ulises.
So...Martina is Appalled that Luis is dating an older woman . I guess she is thinking that she won't get grandkids from this son except a step grandson whom she won't accept.
Date night at the malt shop didn't go well for Moondoggie.
We used to get great dancing at these wedding receptions ...this one was grim and ...no salsa or merengue . #bunmer
OT....can't wait for "_Minas" . I am not a fan of Livia but love Oswald and Cesar . I saw that Anette Miguel is in it. I just saw her for the first time in " La Mujer de Judas" . Also, the guy who played sweet Theo in Invencible is in it . I think he has a future as a galan someday.
OT..OH MY ...Caray is 17 ,and I've been here the whole time. Time flies when you are having fun . Diana, you and I have seen a lot of folks come and go ... so many clever, insightful, funny, wise souls . It makes you believe in good folks who want to communicate and share good vibes )))))))
Jarifa, Susan, RGV Chick, Diana, Darcy & Co.,: If I recall, this Telenovela is supposed to be having 115 episodes, so it looks like this will be dragging out non-stop.
Anyone watching this Telenovela. Looks like the big group of Antagonists will include Luis Roberto Guzman, Mariana Seaone, Sofia Castro & countless others will be wreaking havoc 24/7.
The cast of this upcoming Telenovela (whenever Univision decides to put it either in the 7:00 PM CST timeslot or the 9:00 PM timeslot) includes Claudia Martin, Gabriela de la Garza, Maria Sorte & Romina Poza.
I love this TN so far. Is anyone going to recap this show? Although I understand the basics of what's going on, I do miss a lot in the dialogue.
Lester
Diana, "So what will the "family" do after Ignacio's little speech? I say fight, not flight. Will it be an all out fisticuffs or a war of words? "I have to admit that I am hoping for the "all out fisticuffs." I didn't recap my first couple years here. My first recapping venture was with "Amores con trampa" back in 2015.
Steve, I heard that this one had 120 episodes. I hope it does because I do not want to be short-changed. I am enjoying it too much.
Susan, I do wonder if Paula saying anything about Ignacio's temper would have changed Cecilia' mind. She did blow Paul off when she asked her not to have Ignacio involved in the business which Cecilia did by extension through the loan. I think Cecilia is going to have to go through this one on her own. She just had to have Ignacio and now she does with Irma on his back. You hit it on the head with Rogelio clumsily trying to claw his way back to Paula. "Rog following Paula into the women's bathroom and kissing her...really writers, is this your idea of romance ???" Rogelio can be such a blockhead.
Jarifa, Blockhead says it all. I think Paula should just surf off into the sunset with Ulises, but then , I think that watching telenovelas ( my guilty pleasure ..shhhh) for so long has made me jaded. To quote our dear Dr . Carlos who loved to stir the pot here at Caray by defending all the bad girls and knocking all the macho galans ....NEXT. A risk manager would probably advise Paula to cut her losses and go away singing and surfing with supposedly low maintenance Ulises. Just go with the quiet , nontoxic hombre . Leave Rog the Alpha make to sort things out with Mom, Erika, and Lucas. #notyourproblems
ESPERANZA
It doesn't look likely, but this is probably a good thing.
The original novela (La Tormenta) was true circus of a novela in the best way possible. It had black magic, magnificently evil villains, wonderful supporting characters, great music... it had EVERYTHING and was OVER the top, but in the BEST way possible (as example- all the villains in the novela died by nature- poisoned by spiders, eaten by crocodiles, strangled by snakes, etc.)
This has been watered down so much that it's just BORING
The Producer seems to want to use this as a vehicle for his daughter Sofia's career, and is also now fucking/"involved with" Mariana Seoane, which would explain why the character of 'Bernarda' has more prominence in this production that she does in the original.
Forgive me, but I can not and will not abide nepotism no matter how it manifests itself.
You all seem like a nice bunch of people. I am sorry, but I simply had to express the reality of things here.
Jarifa, you are a gem catching last night's key conversations. Thanks for the fun recap, and letting me know about "horchata" (it looked like skim milk to me!>).
Ha-ha, Ignacio called each brother by name, with the camera giving each a closeup for a scowl. Luis looked more uncomfortable than angry like the others though.
I haven't cared for Marco much, but I liked him telling Imelda to get her own drink when she demanded that Blanca to get fix her a drink. IIRC, Blanca doesn't even work there anymore, she's just helping Marco.
Let's see who will win the worst mother-in-law prize. Hipolito sure knew how to pick his women, NOT.
Doofus Rogelio. I wish he could hear how awful Erika speaks to Paula.
Niecie, Lucas (my mistake with the Luis) did look more uncomfortable than anything else. I am hoping for a fist fight if not a brawl. : ) “Hipólito sure knew how to pick his women, NOT.” You can say that again. What a pair of bitter old harpies!
Highlights from the couch . . .
Looks like I had my Lucas and Luis straight last night after all. Too many "Lu" names for me.
Things were moving tonight.
-Marco punches Ignacio. The brothers pull them apart. Irma runs in to help her son. The Iturbides leave but not without Martina giving Ignacio and his mother a long hateful look. She tells Rogelio that he needs to use his head when taking care of the Ignacio situation. She cannot believe that in two minutes Ignacio managed to ruin the Iturbide name that took her years to build. She needs to clear the Iturbide name. She invites the ladies of her foundation over and lets them know that if they are not with her, she will be against them.
-Rogelio exacts his own kind of revenge on Ignacio by hiring all of his drivers away from him. No matter what Ignacio is willing to pay or benefits he wants to give, the drivers prefer to work for the Iturbide company. Ignacio is incensed.
-Paula asks Blanca to pack up her belongings still at the Iturbide house and have Melitón deliver them to her. Martina thinks not. Paula ends up having to come to the house to pack up her own things. Martina tells her to get out of Morelia and never come back Paula tell her that love is freedom and she hopes Martina gets that some day. Martina calls Erika to come on over so she will be there when Paula comes on by for her things. Martina tells Erika she is going to support her to be the second monarch of her Villa Morelia. Paula does run into Erika. Erika tells Paula that she won't allow Paula to hurt Rogelio anymore. Paula reminds her that he is still married and is in love with another woman. Luis drives Paula to Eva's.
-Paula turns Ulises down on joining him in a new business and also singing with him on occasion. She wants to focus on her school and get herself together.
-Paula and Rogelio remain at loggerheads. She loves him but something has broken in between them and she doesn't know how to get it back.
-Rogelio is still jealous of Ulises.
-Marco apologizes to Blanca one more time and they decide to give a fresh start to their relationship. (Didn't they do this once already?)
-Fernando feels a certain amount of empathy for Ignacio . The fault lies with his father not Ignacio. They have no idea what he has lived through.
-Nobody can find Fidel because he is in bed with Eva more than once. They provide plenty of comic relief. He ends up outed by Luis coming out of Eva's place.
-Ceci goes to stay with Paula/Eva for her wedding night. She thinks about getting a lawyer because of the Ignacio stunt. He shows up later and apologizes. He blames Rogelio for denying him the Iturbide name and calling him his father's mistake. He sobs in Ceciiia's arms. (The guy needs psychiatrist) She continues to stay with her friends. Paula decides to give their relationship a fresh start and calls Rogelio that she will be waiting for him at the airport so they can go on their honeymoon. He never shows or even leaves her a message. When she complains to him, he explains her he saw her message but he had to take care of a crisis at work (no drivers). He offers to buy her the house she wants. She decides to continue staying at Eva's.
-Auntie Eva give Cecilia and Paula some advice. She tells them to sit down and be quiet. She admonishes them for leaving their situations with their husbands. Nothing can be fixed long distance. They need to get in there and fight from what they want; not run away.
-Martina wants to know what info Beatriz has collected about Irma and Ignacio. She has none. They were supposed to go and see Cecilia and Ignacio's new house, but the visit was called off. Martina reminds her of the deal they made.
-Martina tells Imelda that she was wrong about Erika. She now thinks she will make Rogelio very happy.
-Gabriel tells Ignacio if he wants to attack Ignacio, he needs to go after his weak spot. That would be his wife.
-After another failed attempt at reconciliation, Rogelio lets Paula know that her lawyer asked him for a monetary settlement in the divorce. Paula fires her lawyer because she told her she didn't want any money.
-Rogelio and Erika meet with the psychologist to find out the best way to tell Lucas that Rogelio is his father. They keep him home from school and Rogelio tells him. Lucas is angry that they lied to him. Later, he runs away and goes to Paula at the music school. Paula calls Rogelio and he goes to pick him up. Lucas thought that Rogelio didn't tell him he was his son because he didn't know if he (Lucas) would be good enough for him as a son. Rogelio tells him that finding out that he was his son was the best news ever. Lucas wants to know if he is going to marry his mother since he is no longer with Paula. Rogelio doesn't answer and that is the end of the episode.
That is all I have. Please add anything left out.
Jarifa, I enjoyed every word of your smart, savvy recap!
Your wish was granted – fisticuffs it was, (albeit far too brief) with hothead Marco stepping up to the plate! Not much of a fray but volatile enough to ruin Martina’s pristine, unsullied reputation. Good!! Had the brothers not hustled Marco out, it would have turned into an out and out brawl! Rats. I did feel a bit badly for Ceci until it became evident she is going to let Ignacio walk all over her like a doormat…
“Paula reminds her that he is still married and is in love with another woman”. Save your breath Paula, it’s falling on Erika’s selfish. deaf ears.
Fidel and Eva’s pure panic at trying to hide their coupling made me smile although I didn’t see or feel the combustible chemistry they tried to portray.
“Martina tells Erika she is going to support her to be the second monarch of her Villa Morelia”. And the second Erika left, Martina shakes her head, rolling her eyes. She has chosen the lesser of (to her) two evils, the mother of her grandson.
When Imelda and Martina were in the car, I loved that when Martina was trying to talk to her saying “suegra”, Martina shushed her wanting none of it. Or her. Well Martina entered into her relationship with this devil with her eyes wide open so…I have to say Imelda looked beautiful in her black dress.
“Rogelio is still jealous of Ulises”. Once again, Rogelio made a pompous ass of himself, such a total turnoff.
Poor Lucas.
Diana
Meant to say Imelda entered into her relationship with this devil with her eyes wide open so…
Diana
Gracias, Jarifa.
Ignacio is an ass. Martina deserves to be brought down a few pegs but he did himself no favors with this declassee action. And if he's such a genius how did he miss that Martina knew nothing of her husband's infidelity and that by extension Rogelio also knew nothing of it? He is blaming Rogelio because he wants to destroy whom he envies. He has already hit once through slimy Fernando and this whole ugly scene could have him losing Cecelia. She felt used and that was justified.
So there are now two cougars afoot... interesting.
All the Iturbide brothers should be tested against Ignacio. Or would that expose a past act of adultery on Martina's part? Martina's refusal to allow the disinterment doesn't have to mean she murdered her husband; she just has a truly Victorian aversion to Scandal.
Jarifa, thank you for another exciting report from your couch. It was a delight to read this morning from my couch.
Ah yes, Marco, the bored ,frustrated young gun , is , of course, the brother who lunges crutches and all to punch out smirking Igy. I got a kick out of all three of his bros escorting him out leaving Mom and Imelda to sit there embarrassed.
Love Fidel making that funny noise to get his lover's attention. These two are great comic relief. Who knew that buff body was beneath his buttoned down shirt.
The actress playing Paula is a believable crier. The scene of Marco and the servants gathering to hug and say goodbye to her was poignant . Sweet gentle giant Luis not only drive her to school, he wanted outside to take her home. I hope his cougar appreciates his kind , loving heart.
Madame Butterfly holding court with the neighborhood biddies was fun.
The actor playing Lucas is so cute.
I am confused about the connection Martina's suitor has to Igy.
Diana, I meant to agree with you yesterday about Ceci's rather messy wedding appearance . That was a lot of dress , and what was that thing hanging in her hair. I guess that wardrobe wants to keep reminding us about her hippy, free soul nature. Okwy....got it.
Thank you Jarifa! I didn’t get to watch last night so I guess instead of half-watching and reading your recap today I am not watching at all and reading. Your recap is better anyway!!
Is it just me, or is this a whole lotta drama for Ignacio simply stating he was their brother? Yeah, the affair business is unpleasant, I guess; but probably not much of a surprise to that crowd. If The Iturbide’s had said nothing or rolled their eyes it would have been a blip but Marco decked the guy and now it’s a scandal!! I do understand Cecilia being upset though. But my first thought is still the whole thing would have been avoided if the Iturbides were not there to be putted! Why were they there? They hate the guy, why did they go to his wedding?
I so enjoyed the episodes last night. Ignacio got punched out and Eva and Fidel had their comedy of errors. It is so refreshing seeing Alfredo Gatica in a comedic role. Too many of these actors get type cast.
Eva's little speech was much needed. You are either in and working on the relationship or you are out and really done with it. It isn't the old hokey pokey dance.
What happens now that Paula has fired her lawyer?
What is Ignacio's next move?
I was shocked that Rogelio hired all of Ignacio's drivers. I didn't think the Rogelio had that kind of fight in him but then again he is Martina's son.
Diana, thanks. ; ) Yes, I got my "fisticuffs." Too bad the fight was so short. I wanted to see Ignacio pummeled. "And the second Erika left, Martina shakes her head, rolling her eyes. She has chosen the lesser of (to her) two evils, the mother of her grandson." If nothing else, Martin is pragmatic. I know she loves her sons but I do not think she "likes" anyone aside from herself. Martina never misses an opportunity to keep Imelda at arms distance and to make sure Imelda feels that distance.
Urban, "All the Iturbide brothers should be tested against Ignacio. Or would that expose a past act of adultery on Martina's part?" Excellent! It never crossed my mind. What if Martina was already pregnant by Gabriel when she married or had a little fling along the way. Either would not surprise me. "Martina's refusal to allow the disinterment doesn't have to mean she murdered her husband; she just has a truly Victorian aversion to Scandal." I totally agree. She will do anything to avoid "Scandal. "
Darcy, you are too kind! It does seem like a big deal over not much but I think that Ignacio is crazy (for lack of a better term). I wonder, too, why the Iturbides bothered to attend or better yet "deigned "to grant Ignacio the pleasure of their presence. It made no sense knowing how easily Ignacio could be triggered but then we could say that about Marco and Rogelio, too, right? What a group!
Martina has no real friends. There are the women whom she associates with on the charity board and ones she meets in church but she is not close to any of them. The only woman she ever seems to trust is Michaela, but it could be said that Martina pays for her silence.
I hate to think of how Martina would have treated an actual daughter.
The way she treated Erica in the flashback was enough to prove that she would not accept any daughter in law. Now that she has seen Imelda u close and personal we know that this would not have been any better if she had foisted her on Rogelio instead of Fernando.
You are right, Urban, those women are not friends but more like pawns she can use to do her bidding.
I wonder what Erica thought after Paula told her what's what. It's funny to me that a person who herself left,j all be it for a different reason, allowes herself to say 'I won't let you hurt him'. Does'nt she feel like a hypocrite?Martina told her she'll help and Erica is willing to take th offer knwoing what Martina is like. I don't get her desperation. Maybe it's because she can't forgive herself for leaving when she saw someone else did stay? Because she seems so desperate to get Rogelio back that there must be something going on in her head. She doesn't strike me as stupid, just selfish. And who would want to be with Rogelio knwoing that they'll have to deal with his mother and that he won't stand up for you? Imelda has no sense so she doesn't count. But reasonable women seem to not be very fond of Martina. All those ladies she had over for dinner talk behind her back and I imagine would be good backstabbers if they knew they could get away with it. I see nothing appealing about this kind of life. But maybe that's why Martina seems so miserable.
I enjoyed Fernando sympathising with Ignacio, mostly because I'm sick of everyone just agreeing with her. Luis is the only one who has any hope of getting out ofthere undamaged by his mother's nonsense. Marco might too, but he has Blanca. Luis is just reasonable in general and not an asshole. This whol 'motocycle loving, immature guy' type is becoming boring. I still remember los ricos and Luis Alberto. But he at least had deep-rooted issues. I think it was easier to sympathise with im at certain points because it wasn't just plain annoying, unlike with Marco.
Paula does need to talk to her husband, but I'm sick of Rogelio always doubting her. He starts going on about the money whereas Paula is supposed tobe this great woman who is trying to get along with everyone and will even accept his son from a previous relationship. I just don't get what she sees in him so it feels more like infatuation because all Rogelio offers is jealousy and mistrust later followed by grand gestures and gifts. Out of all of them, Luis is the one I'd pick. The rest Martina has already ruined.
Jarifa, thank you for another excellent report from your view on the couch.
Of course, young , bored, frustrated Marco on his crutches is the first to lunge at Igy and punch him out. I liked the way his brothers pulled him away and out of the room leaving Martina and Imelda sitting there embarrassed.
Marco may become a galan one day.
The actress playing Paula is a good crier. The scene of the servants and Marco assembling to say goodbye was poignant . Sweet, silent Luis not only drove Paula to school, he waited in the car to take her home. He is still smitten by her.
Madame Butterfly with her groupies was funny .
Love Fidel and his lover Eva . Great comic relief. Who knew how buff Fidel was.
Lucas is adorable.
Definitely enjoying this, and thank you for wonderful recaps! I like Paula’s free spirit and clothing that reflects her free spirit. Hope Rogelio gets his act together soon. Love Lucas! Best of all are Loyal Luis and Fidel/Eva!
Babachita
Jarifa, super job.
Kudos to Rogelio hiring away Ignacio's drivers. He may be dumb in love, but he knows his business.
If Imelda thinks it through, she'd see she's better off with Paula as a sister-in-law over Erika since Martina hates Paula. She'd have no competition for the Monarch with Paula.
waterlily, "Paula does need to talk to her husband, but I'm sick of Rogelio always doubting her". Yup, as soon as Martina planted that doubt in his head about Paula being Ignacio's accomplice, he had to go and ask Paula about it. That was too much.
Susan, "Marco may become a galan one day." if he doesn't end up killing himself somehow first. As for Eva and Fidel, we defiknfitely need a break from the drama every once in a while.
Babachita, good to see you on the patio. Glad you are enjoying the novela. Yes, Paula has that "hippie" look about her. I wonder if she is ever sorry she bought Rogelio that cup of coffee in the first place.
Niecie, good point that Imelda would have no competition with Paula in the monarca department. Erika would give her a good run for her money expecially with having the first born son. Rogelio's stealth move with the drivers surprised me.
Thanks, Jarifa, you filled in a bunch for me. When I got home and realized it was only recording the second hour I looked at the guide in the tv. They have LaRosa at 7:00 so I taped that and now I see both episodes. I’m almost caught up.
I’ve been wondering if Ignacio loves Cecilia. It seems extreme to marry someone to get to her friend’s almost ex-husband. And I thought he wanted his share of the family money. But he sure has ruined his wedding and I didn’t see it last night or read about it.
Funny how Martina chased Erika away and now she’s helping her try to win Rogelio back. She must know what kind of mother-in-law she’s getting. But so does Cecilia and it didn’t stop her!
Liz
Would Erica want to compete with Imelda in the monarca department? What would they be competing for? Imelda tries to be a lamebotas and it doesn't work. I wonder what Erica would do. Does there even exist a daughter-in-law that Martina might like? She clearly doesn't like bootlickers but I doubt she would respect an obedient daughter-in-law. So if there doesn't exist an option that would let the girl be happy, what would work?
Liz, great to hear you are almost caught up! It would help so much if the cable companies/tv station and Uni were all on the same page.
I think that Cecilia is finding out that she got married way too soon. This has been very entertaining so far.
waterlily, I do not think that Martina would ever care for any daughter-in -law other than her being an incubator for a grandchild and/or a useful "lamebotas." Imelda clearly is interested in being the lady of the house and all of the society influence she could wield once Martina dies. I don't think that Erika would really care but then she is still dealing with a possibly terminal illness, so who knows?
Highlights from the couch from under the air-conditioner tonight.
We are now one third done with this story. Unbelievable!
LOTS of new happenings tonight.
PAULA/ROGELIO
Rogelio continues begging Paula to reconsider and not divorce him. She won't change her mind. The day they are to sign the divorce papers, she is hit by a car because she is looking at her phone instead of watching for traffic. (DUH!) She arrives late at the signing of the divorce papers in a cervical collar and surprises Rogelio when she says that she doesn't want a divorce. She realized that her greatest feat in life wasn't death but living without him. She hopes he can forgive her. He sure can! He agrees to not hide anything from her and she agrees to tell him whenever there is a problem.
ROGELIO/LUCAS/ERIKA
Rogelio and Lucas are reconciled. Rogelio comes over for supper. Erika says that Lucas is going to feel even better when he sees them together. She puts her hand on his knee. He removes it. Unfortunately, that does not stop her from trying to get him back along with her ally Martina.
FIDEL tries to break up with Eva but can't.
FELIPA wants s divorce. Trying to have a baby has stressed her marriage. She feels like it is her fault. Melitón is shocked but admits he feels like it is his fault that they cannot get pregnant. Honorio suggests that Melitón forget about the fertility issue and romance her like he did when they met. He does and is successful.
MARCO gets a job at a local garage owned by a guy called Toro (not Torito to him!)and gives Blanca the good news. He is still jealous of Blanca's relationship with her boyfriend Aldo and makes an ass of himself as expected.
IGNACIO/GABRIEL Gabriel tries to give Martina a heads up about the exhumation. There is a permit for it to happen. She is just nasty. Gabriel tells Ignacio that he is not happy that Ignacio wants to make a big deal about the exhumation with lots of publicity to shame the Iturbide family. Gabriel advises him to take it easy because negative publicity could hurt the Iturbide company financially.
CECILIA talks to Irma and lets her know that she will not be controlled by her or mistreated by her. She ends up reconciling with Ignacio and he is going to get them their own house so they can go live on their own. When Irma hears about that, she has a panic attack and again Ignacio is reduced to that scared little boy trying to care of his mother. Cecilia says she didn't know . . . (I fear that Cecilia is trapped like a rat in a trap with this pair)
MARTINA has her birthday shindig. Everyone is there. Her happiness is marred when Rogelio arrives with Paula. He tells Martina that they are not getting a divorce. He admits that their break up was his fault because he never told Paula about his son. Martina blames Paula for leaving him. She never left his father no matter what kind of mistakes he made. Rogelio says that Paula came back and will not be forced to chose between his mother and his wife. Later, Paula talks to her and Martina makes it clear that Paula will be leaving before she knows it. She will always be #2.
MARTINA decides to be footloose and fancy free. She goes to the chapel and prays. She has decided that she is now going to start living just for herself. She took care of a husband and sons. Now it is her time. She gets a beautiful wood sculpture from Gabriel (?) She goes to return the chess piece to him saying she is getting rid of things from the past to make room of new things. They agree to have dinner in a a couple of days. Her sons are all in an up roar when she is out by herself and incommunicado all day.
FERNANDO/IGNACIO Fernando pays Ignacio a visit and talks him into allowing him to be his contact with the Iturbide family hoping to create a better situation for all of them. Fernando tells Imelda that has a plan so that Ignacio can be recognized as an Iturbide.
IMELDA/FERNANDO Imelda is not happy that Paula is back and doesn't try to hide it. She also thinks that Rogelio is still taking advantage of Fernando. She sees them as victims of the same old same old at the Villa now that Paula is back.
LUIS takes Aranza to Martina's birthday party but then seems to be taken with Gabriel's daughter Andrea.
ERIKA has decided to start her plan to get Rogelio back. She plots with Martina to plan a "surprise" party for her at a restaurant. The excuse is that Lucas wanted to do this party for his grandma. Martina agrees to act surprised. She texts everyone in the family except for Paula. Earlier Paula made plans with Rogelio to meet him and Lucas for dinner. Rogelio arrives at the party but his phone is dead. Nobody has a charger. (DUH! doesn't anyone have a phone he could use???) He cannot call Paula who is left waiting for Rogelio and Lucas at the school. Rogelio is uncomfortable but doesn't leave since Lucas wants him to stay.
Jarifa, another simply superb summary. Your all encompassing details filled in the gaps on what I missed.
"She hopes he can forgive her". Really Paula?? I can only surmise that instead of knocking some sense into you, being hit by the car made you take leave of your senses. I thought Paula and Ceci were very different, but tonight proved they aren't dissimilar. Smart women, foolish choices. Perhaps Ceci can share her "kick me" T shirt with Paula. Whyever would you go back to someone who not only lied to you but kept lying until someone else spilled the tea?
Irma is a sniveling, cold hearted and calculating beyotch. Every now and then I actually feel a bit sorry for Ignacio. "(I fear that Cecilia is trapped like a rat in a trap with this pair)" is exactly right Jarifa! 'Nuff said...
Why didn't Paula insist she would only go back to Rogelio if he promised they could live elsewhere? Paula is back to square one; being insulted by Martina, iced out by Imelda, and taking a backseat to Erika.
Why did Rogelio beg Paula to take him back? He makes so many promises but relegates her to second choice at every opportunity. At the "surprise" party, he should have offered his immediate apologies and left to keep his date with Paula. Once again, he kowtows to his mean, manipulative mother. Paula, as usual is out on the fringes...
Even Marco was acting like a whiny, jealous child. I think Blanca is the third woman tonight who has taken someone back that doesn't deserve them.
"FIDEL tries to break up with Eva but can't". I don't know why but I was sort of relieved.:)
Finally Julia Urbini arrives as Andrea!
Diana
Thanks, Diana. Yes! “Finally Julia Urbini arrives as Andrea!” to join Valentina Buzzurro and Alfredo Gatica. A “Vencer el desamor” reunion! That still is one of my very favorite novelas. I could easily watch it again.
Yes, as we have discovered that Martina and Irma/Rogelio and Ignacio are so similar, we can add Paula and Cecilia to that list. As for Marco, he is just a big brat. I had hoped his accident would have changed that aspect of his personality but at least he is starting his auto design dreams by actually working with cars.
Whenever we see Ignacio panicked at the side of his mother like a child, I actually pity him but lots of people have rotten childhoods without turning into monsters themselves. Cecilia did so well holding her own until the “panic attack.” She can’t win in that situation. As for Paula and Rogelio, love isn’t logical unfortunately. Rogelio is going to have to learn to say NO not only to Martina but also Lucas. He was visibly squirming at that party and should have just gotten up and left. Everyone would have gotten over it, or not.
Yay! Fidel and Eva are still together.
Thank you Jarifa!!! Another fantastic recap and once again I know what I sort of watched…. I am here for the notes from the couch anyway, A++!
I want a divorce, I don’t want a divorce, I want a divorce, I don’t want a divorce; what grade is Paula in again?
I was so proud of Cecilia when she just walked out the door when Irma turned on the water works!!!! But now she’s probably stuck, I don’t feel sorry for her though she went in with eyes wide open!!!
Yes, Rogelio should have left immediately but then again if he had any boundaries or any ability to form boundaries or a backbone at all, we wouldn’t have a novela.
All these men need to walk out like Cecelia did and leave their mommies to fend for themselves it would be the best thing for everyone including the moms! Imagine being panicked because mommy dared to leave the house by herself? The horror!
Jarifa, thank you for a great review of all the action. Your couch recaps provide a great start to the day.
I guess the purpose of Paula's accident was to have her realize that life can be gone in an instant and made her decide she wanted to be with Rog no matter what .The neck brace made her seem even tinier and more vulnerable than ever.
I guess the only way Paula can deal with this return to that house and Rog is to ignore Martina, Imelda, and Fernando and get out of the house as much as possible . The servants and Marco and Luis love her. That's what I'd do.
Fidel can't quit Eva , and Eva got her groove back and can't quit Fidel. Go with it.
I still like Marco , and I think he will grow up eventually and be a better man. He is sweet with Paula. I've seen it happen over and over in real life.
Luis looked interested in young Andrea. I dont know this actress.
I thought Irma was having some kind of food allergy from food ceci made. Thanks for clearing that up.
Erika has become a nasty schemer to retrieve Rog, and she is going to use Lucas more and more to accomplish that. I do not like her.
Smitten Ulises with the long hair and puppy dog eyes is still hanging around. I'd take him and Go off into the surf and sand and music on the beach. The End.Insert Gael 's surfside dream here.
All these mommy's boys. I discovered that in some cultures , boys\men are much more devoted to their mothers than American guys who seem to cut the apron strings quite early on.
Jarifa, good job as always.
Dealing with mama's boys rarely ends well. I wish better luck for Paula and Cecilia than I had.
I am not ready to buy Martina's "new attitude." It will last for two episodes at most and Gabriel will realize she is no longer the young woman he once loved. His daughter will see that before he does.
I also agree that Paula should have insisted that she and Rogelio move out. Martina is not a helpless invalid ignorant of the outside world. She manipulates people very effectively, so she doesn't need her sons to protect her.
Irma is just as bad and so is her son. We'll see if he and Cecilia move into their own place.
Thanks, everyone, for your kind comments.
Darcy, this said it all: "Yes, Rogelio should have left immediately but then again if he had any boundaries or any ability to form boundaaries or a backbone at all, we wouldn’t have a novela." These "imperfect" characters give us so much to talk about. How funny is hat?
Susan, your auto-correct works like mine so I knew what it meant. Irma even had medication for her panic attacks. That is not a good sign for Cecilia. "Erika has become a nasty schemer to retrieve Rog, and she is going to use Lucas more and more to accomplish that. I do not like her." Me either Beyond that, she has turned into another of Martina's minions whether she wanted to or not.
Urban, "I am not ready to buy Martina's "new attitude." It will last for two episodes at most and Gabriel will realize she is no longer the young woman he once loved. His daughter will see that before he does." It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. It would not surprise me if Andrea sees Martina for who/what she really is before Gabriel does. "Dealing with mama's boys rarely ends well." You can say that again.
Busy day today. Looks like more fireworks tonight from the avances.
The writers are testing my patience with this one because three women taking back men who don't deserve is too much for me.'she hopes he can forgive her'. Oh really? So her leaving is worse than his lying and hiding the truth?'She came back' Is she a prodigal wife now or what? The whole situation is resolved by Paula deciding that dying isn't as bad as losing Rogelio? I couldn't believe my own ears when I heard her speech. So how long will we have to wait before one of them does something sensible? Rogelio says he won't pick between his mummy dearest and his saintly wife, but then he doesn't know his mother at all. Eventually it most probably will come to this because Martina will make him feel as though he is betraying her by picking Paula's side. Well, if Rogelio ever manages to make up his mind. Are those panick attacks fake? They've been going for a while if Ignacio knows what they are.
Martina decides to 'live her own life' and then proceeds to help Erica with her stupid plan. So much for 'no one needs me anymore and I'll focus on myself'. I can't wait for a scene where all those mama's boys show up in the hall with their suitcases. I still don't get why Erica thinks it's a good idea to try and ruin Rogelio's relationship in order to 'get him back.' All these women seem to be crazy in a similar way. Maybe it's the water inMorelia?Because Erica's logic, like Paula's, Cecilia's and Blanca's, baffles me. Erica is like a child who saw a toy another child has and decided she needs the toy. It is really sad that women in particular can be horrible to each other in these telenovela; and all because of a man who isn't even worth the effort and the trouble.
Jarifa, am getting tired of seeing Martina's smile notasmile as she hands out one of her insults. How can a person who treats people the way she does ever be happy.
She usually gets up and puts on her fancy clothes and jewelry and then sits in her room. QTH? At least she got out the house to rain on Gabriel's parade.
Irma and Beatriz are no better .
The handmade shawl was lovely . I have always appreciated handmade things made with love . Did Martina really like it?
Gracias, Jarifa. Terrific recap.
Eeeoh, Cecilia is in a worse place than Paula is. She's alone with a loco husband and a loca mil. Paula at least has a sane husband, nice bils (even Fernando hasn't been nasty to her), and friendly servants. Cecilia needs to run, run, run!
My favorite scene: At her first birthday party, Martina recognizes Lucas to all and he stands, appropriately. There was no reason for Erika to stand too, but she did and just then reconciled Paula strolls in with Rogelio. Loved it! Erika had a very very very bad day.
Nice to see Marco gets a job.
The surprise Martina and Erika cooked up to not invite Paula. Martina deserves a dil like Imelda. She better hope and pray she doesn't become dotty in her old age - Imelda drunk with power would kick her to the curb.
waterlily, your "Maybe it the water in Morelia" gave me a good laugh. "It is really sad that women in particular can be horrible to each other in these telenovela; and all because of a man who isn't even worth the effort and the trouble." What is even sadder is seeing women act this way in real life and I have. It is not a pretty picture.
Susan, thanks for mentioning the lovely crocheted scarf. I was impressed that Micaela, Felipa and Blanca all worked on it. As for Martina: "She usually gets up and puts on her fancy clothes and jewelry and then sits in her room. QTH?" Exactly. I guess she has to look good and at leisure to plot all of her machinations. She is supposedly a big deal in Morelia so she must be planning her "influence" beyond the Villa. LOL
Niecie, yes, Cecilia "needs to run, run, run!" Hope she make it out ASAP. Thanks for sharing your favorite scene. That was a good one: shocker of a surprise for Erika. "Martina deserves a dil like Imelda. She better hope and pray she doesn't become dotty in her old age - Imelda drunk with power would kick her to the curb." You better believe it!
