Highlights from the couch.
It looks like this is going to be a busy week for me especially in the evenings. If the highlights aren't posted in the evening, they will be posted sometime the next day.
ROGELIO/PAULA each have their own jealousy problems. Rogelio si jealous that Ulises is getting even more involved in Paula's work at the music school. He sees him as still pursuing her. She assures him that she'll let him know what is exactly going on with Ulises so that he is not uncomfortable. Paula is jealous of Erika. Shen knows she wants Rogelio back. After Erika faints, she tells Rogelio "I love you" when she comes to. Paula didn't forget that. Rogelio assures Paula that she is the only women he loves.
IGNACIO/CECILIA/IRMA are living in a hornet's nest. In order to find peace in his home, Ignacio tells his mother that she is going to be moving a smaller one story house. It will help her not fall. Irma manages another panic attack. Cecilia finds out that Rogelio never went to his therapy session. She confronts him about it and he flies off the handle but Irma calms him down before he can do any damage to Cecilia. He finally goes to see the therapist and says he is only there because his wife sent him. He doesn't need it. As he talks to the therapist, we find out that his mother never protected him from his stepfather beating him. He tells the therapist that his mother would have been beaten herself if she tried to stop him. The therapist says there are different ways of handling the situation and tells him to think about it. Ignacio asks his mother why he didn't stop him from beating Cecilia the first time. All she needed to do was say something to break the violent streak. Irma doesn't like being blamed. He also asks her why she didn't stop his stepfather from beating him that particular day. She says he would have killed her. Irma is upset he is blaming her for everything. Cecilia is to blame for changing him. She damns Cecilia and Martina to herself. She also throws out Cecilia's food and cuts up her clothes in retaliation.
IGNACIO/HIS BROS Ignacio is having no luck getting on the executive board at the Iturbide Company. He cannot buy enough shares anonymously in the Iturbide Company to make a difference. It seems like he is counting on Fernando to give him some of his shares. Ignacio is not happy with any of the settlement offers Rogelio has made to him especially since the Villa Morelia is not included. Rogelio makes a point of saying he would be compensated with other properties. Ignacio makes it clear that he wants whatever his brothers had and to live like his brothers have lived all these years. Fernando tries to convince Rogelio to see Ignacio as their brother and really try to come to an agreement before things get ugly. Rogelio is not interested.
ROGELIO/FERNANDO/MARTINA Fernando lets Martina know that Rogelio is planning on selling some of their land in Mexico City. Martina asks Rogelio about it. He says he is considering it. She says she wants to be consulted on what plans he has with HER property. Rogelio complains to Fernando that it was interesting that he told Martina about him thinking of selling the property but didn't have the guts to tell her WHY.
MARTINA keeps nosing around all of her sons' business. She shames Luis for being in love with his brother's wife He asks what about her secrets??? He cannot stand her nosing and nosing around anymore.
MARTINA/GABRIEL rekindle their romance from their teenage years. Back then, Gabriel proposed but Martina knew her father would never approve. It didn't seem like she was ready to run away with him either. They meet again at a cabin where Gabriel had promised her a fairytale of their own if they went inside. They now go inside.
EVA/FIDEL are still hot and heavy. Only Rogelio and Paula know they are a couple.
PAULA goes to the doctor and has some tests. She finds out that she can get pregnant again.
IMELDA is paid a visit by Martina who tells her if she doesn't start taking care of her daughter, Ava will never know she is her mother. Suddenly!!! Imelda has Ava with her all the time and is reluctant to give her up to anyone unless their hands are clean. Also, they are not to touch her face to avoid any pimples.
MARCO/BLANCA are hot and heavy and are officially novios.XIMENA is Fernando's assistant who seems to like to take care of him. After Fernando slices his hand smashing a glass out of anger, he gives her a lift home where she cleans and wraps his hand. Little does he know but a laughing Rogelio is across the street taking a photo of them together. Rogelio is sent the photo very quickly. He shows it to Fernando who assures him he has nothing going on with Ximena. Fernando is worried who else it might be sent to.
ERIKA/ROGELIO/LUCAS Erika , Lucas and Rogelio go to Los Angeles to change Lucas' last name to Iturbide and to get Rogelio joint custody of Lucas. Before they go, Erika suffers from low blood pressure and faints. When she gets back, she has some tests run to see the status of her cancer. It turns out that a certain antigen count is elevated and she knows that likely means trouble. Erika is shook. She keeps her cool when talking to Lucas on the phone and manages to sound normal. She thinks she ends the call and slams the phone down but never really ends the call. As she tells her sister about her bad test results and asks how she can tell her son that she has a cancerous tumor and could die, little does she know that Lucas is hearing everything she says.
Please add anything I left out.
Did Rogelio think his mummy dearest wouldn't have found out he sold the property if he had done it? Or would he have told her before selling? It's interesting he tries to protect her whereas she causes nothing but harm and it's all based just on what she thinks is best for them. I mean, she just didn't like Erica and so she made sure she left. She is awful to Paula because she isn't good enough. Luis is the only one who really seems to know what she does is no good.I wish Rogelio had told Martina she can lose the house. Maybe this way she would have something else to occupy her mind instead of all that snooping.
How does Imelda's behaviour towards he daughter change so rapidly?
Paula might be jealous, but at least she didn't just go to sleep elswhere just because she didn't like Erica's behaviour. So nice to punish your wife for something someone else is doing. That's sure to stop the other person.
Why can't they let Erica move on with her life? It's hardly original to kill off another rival. I'd love for her and Paula to form a cordial relationship.
It's interesting Irma didn't try to protect Ignacio when his stepfather beat him.I've never been in a situation like this so I have no idea what the usual reaction is. But I thought women leave these kinds of relationships precisely when they see their kids are suffering. Maybe at the time women's shelters weren't a thing. But she stopped Ignacio from hurting Ceci the second time. Why the change It's interesting she never protected Ignacio and yet what they went through developed into this kind of unhealthy relationship where she thinks Ignacio belongs to her. Is this because she couldn't keep Hipolito and so now tries to keep another man by her side??
waterlily, good point about not knowing why Irma didn’t leave and what kind of shelters/social services and, I will add, adequate orders of protection were available like close to 40? something years ago. If Irma was poor and had no where else to go, what were her options? I believe her when she said she would have ended up dead if she confronted the step-father.It is still difficult for some women to leave abusive relationships because of poverty and the law not being able to keep them safe from their abusers today. I thought that the Ignacio/Irma story was the real highlight last night. They both need therapy. “Is it because she couldn't keep Hipólito and so now tries to keep another man by her side?” The way she was damning both Martina and Ceci last night, I would answer YES. Sick but true. As for Ceci, she needs to leave and get counseling to find out why she put herself in jeopardy for staying this long in the first place.
Jarifa, thank you for another excellent couchcap. I was only half watching last night, so I especially appreciated all the details.
Yikes, Irma is off the charts cutting up Ceci's clothes and throwing away her food. Run, Ceci, run from this toxic situation and these two extremely damaged souls before you are badly injured or dead. I think that mothers who do not take care of their children tend to treat them as children when they are grown , especially sons.
As for Imelda's sudden change of behavior towards Ava, I suppose Martina scared her which seems to be Martina's stock and trade ...threats and intimidation from The Iron Butterfly. Now Imelda has become overprotective and controlling . Sound familiar?
The flashbacks show us a young , gentle Martina. Will this be an enchanted cottage that transforms her into a nicer person?
Well, Blanca is now being proactive with Marco and showing him what she wants . Blanca is becomjng pretty confident and fierce. Girl power PSA. Let's see what happens next. Marco does have a sweet, boyish smile that must be hard to resist.
Poor Luis . I am glad that he is starting to stand up to mommy. Trying to control your adult children's lives is a lesson in futility. You have to just allow them to make their own mistakes and support them when they try to fix them.
Susan, thanks for the new term "couchcap." Love i! "As for Imelda's sudden change of behavior towards Ava, I suppose Martina scared her which seems to be Martina's stock and trade ...threats and intimidation from The Iron Butterfly. Now Imelda has become overprotective and controlling . Sound familiar? " You can say that again. One thing we can be sure of is that Imelda's goal is to be the next monarca. As for Martina, "Will this be an enchanted cottage that transforms her into a nicer person?" We can hope, can't we?
Thanks, Jarifa, love your notes! And happy to finally be caught up.
Rogelio is not my favorite character. He goes out of the country with a woman that loves him, has a family snapshot taken , which Lucas sends to Paula, but then gets mad at Paula because she’s going to be working with a friend. Mad enough to leave their bed and sleep in a chair. And still let’s his mother be rude to his wife!
Fernando is a fool. We all know Ignacio is going to use those photos to get what he wants. What did Ignacio say that made Fernando break the glass?
Cecilia needs to run for her life. She’s not safe from either one of her housemates. And I don’t think she’s found her cut up clothes yet.
Martina needs to be told the house is now part of the business. Then maybe she’d start fighting the real enemy instead of her kids and their choices. Luis is the only son who really sees how his mother is.
Eva and Fidel are a great couple and a welcome relief from all the drama.
I wondered if Imelda has truly done an about face regarding the baby.
I wonder when we’ll find out the DNA results. Irma could have lied about the parentage because she wanted Hipólito. Am I remembering right that Imelda’s mom lied to her dad?
Liz
Gracias, Jarifa.
This episode definitely drives home the point that mental illness can definitely be contagious. Irma is probably sicker than Ignacio and even more in denial than he is. She has faked falls multiple times and what about those anxiety attacks? Has Ignacio even suggested she see a doctor? If he does so in the next few episodes I'll bet she refuses.
Irma's rejection of Cecelia's cooking and discarding the food in the fridge were bad enough but destroying Cecelia's clothes is the biggest red flag so far. Ignacio will really lose it when he finds this out. If she isn't removed from that house she will try to kill Cecelia.
Imelda is now acting overprotective of Ada. Worrying about zits? If that's real how she thinks I shudder at how she will react when Ada is going through puberty.
Ximena deserves better than Fernando.
I am now wondering whether Martina was pregnant at the altar... which would mean that Gabriel is Rogelio's sperm donor.
Liz, you are right. Beatriz did lie to her husband. Another bomb waiting for someone to light the fuse.
Gracias, Jarifa.
When Cecilia ran out of the room, I thought she'd continue out the front door. But nope, she shuts herself inside her bedroom, still locked in with those two crazies.
Has Imelda gone off the deep end mentally? Or has she calculated that now that she's given Martina an heir and is in line to be the next Monarch, she needn't bother pretending to be a not sh*tty person.
With a mom like Martina, Luis could have all kinds of neuroses. I hated her trying to shame him.
Poor Gabriel can't see his Martina is long gone.
Urban , I had the same thought .Perhaps a young Martina and Gabriel made some magic in that enchanted cottage and Martina was pregnant when she married Hip.
I just watched an old telenovela in which a young couple first thought they were step siblings ,then that they were first cousins , but they were neither because there was so much cheating going on with their parents .uff
Hi, Waterlily ( Love your name !) I just finished Watching " Olivarte Jamais." Now I am watching " Entre mi Amor y tu amor." Both are older Venevision shows from Venezuela. Both are wild and full of all the usual telenovela tropes . my bingo card would be filled quickly. Fun guilty pleasures. My mind goes on vacation when I watch !
I am amazed that Luis is as sane as he is with Martina for a mother. He needs to lock up his journal and anything else personal like that or move back out.
UA: Paula cannot seem to catch a break with the Crazy Old Goat Martina & Co., scheming & plotting to destroy her life 24/7.
What is it about Paula that Martina & these Buji hypocrites HATE so much ? Is it because Paula came from the wrong side of the tracks ? Is it because she's not all uppity ?
Boy it's no fun watching a novela without having Caray alongside!!!.
I'm watching 'El Privilegio de Amar' and see that René Strickler was a good looking guy. I wonder why he didn't get that many leading male roles.?
ERIKA/LUCAS Lucas calls Rogelio to tell him that he heard his mother saying she had cancer and was going to die. Lucas and Paula go to him and try try to give him some hope. They and his mother talk to him and calm him down. Erik is scheduled to get a PET scan the next day to determine exactly what is going on. Unfortunately, it shows that the cancer has spread. She doesn't know how much time she has. She asks Rogelio and Paula to take care of Lucas. Erika makes a video recording for Lucas in case she doesn't make it.
ROGELIO/PAULA Rogelio tells Paula that Ignacio is his half-brother. What bothers him the most is that he knows that Ignacio is using his"friendship" with Fernando to exact revenge on the family. He is afraid how Fernando is going to react when he finds out he was used. Paula is sure that love will find a way in the end. (Okay . . )
FERNANDO/XIMENA Beatriz receives the photo, too. She goes immediately to the Iturbide Company and reads Ximena the riot act threatening to make her life hell if she does not let Fernando alone. To be honest, Ximena is very solicitous around Fernando and he appreciates the extra care she gives to him and his feelings a bit too much. She looks like she could be interested in him, too. He intercedes when her brother comes to the office to extort money from her. Rogelio (this was surprising) didn't know why he would get involved in what was a physical altercation since it was a family issue. When Fernando finds out that her brother has discovered where she lives, he moves her out to a hotel for the night and then wants to help her find an apartment. His brother is looking for one and didn't want one he was looking at.
CECILIA/IGNACIO Ignacio is committed to his mother moving out no matter what. He thinks that will greatly help their marriage Cecilia is not happy when Ignacio shows up drunk saying he is now an Iturbide thanks to Fernando and his shares. So, he is going to go after them to get what he is owed. Cecilia asks him not to do anything to Rogelio since he is the husband of her BFF who is more like a sister. No deal. Nothing or nobody is going to stop his plan for the Iturbides.
ROGELIO/FERNANDO Fernando is not too crazy about Rogelio's idea to get into air transportation with Albert Jensen He asks if the guy is legit. Rogelio assures him he is. Fidel says they still need to do a risk and cost analysis as well as getting a bank loan. Fernando is turned off because it seems that Rogelio has already made the decision without consulting him, as usual. He finds it interesting that Rogelio never wanted to be in debt but is willing to go into debt with this new project.
EVA repays the money she owes to Martina (who doesn't want to accept it at first but passes it on to her only friend Micaela later) Eva and Fidel are still hot at it. He can't keep up! Eva is so tired all the time that it finally occurs to her that she might be pregnant. After three pregnancy tests, Eva has to face that she is indeed pregnant.
THE ITURBIDE BROS & 1/2 all end up in the same bar (of all the bars in Morelia. . . ) Ignacio gets jostled by a waiter and a drink spills on him. He gets into it with the waiter who punches him and a fist fight breaks out. The brothers jump in to defend Ignacio. They all sit around and drink together for a while. Then Ignacio thanks them all for defending him and leaves. After he leaves, the bros think he might end up being okay.
ANDREA/LUIS When Luis refuses Andrea's kiss, she suspects that something is awry. She decides to leave and wonders if it has to do something with Aranza. He assures her it doesn't . With a smile, she says it will all be forgotten tomorrow . . maybe. Martina summons Luis to her bedroom. She thinks he is rejecting Andrea because of Paula. He is fed up with his mother skulking and spying. He tells her he is moving and is shocked when she agrees with him. He does not understand how she can let him go so easily when she has fought Fernando and Rogelio tooth and nail from doing the same She explains that she is trying to avoid immorality. It is best he is not around Paula.
DRUG PSA for taking antidepressants, etc. without them being prescribed by a doctor. Tamara's tale.
MARTINA is so upset she tells Micaela that Luis is in love with Paula. Gabriel tells Andrea that he and Martina are going out.
FELIPA is so despondent about not getting pregnant that she sees herself as useless. Melitón sounds tired of the whole pregnancy preoccupation and tells her that he loves her, doesn't want her suffering, and that they will always be together.
FERNANDO/IGNACIO Fernando tells Ignacio about how worried he is about the photos of him and Ximena. He has nothing going on with her but what if the photos were sent to his wife or mother? In spite of the lawyer's pleading that he talk to Rogelio before doing so, Fernando decides to sign over enough shares to get Ignacio on the executive board. He explains that he will now have an ally on the board. Ignacio tells Fernando he wants to be equal among the brothers and for them to recognize him as one of them. They agree that both are looking for justice from their family. In the last scene, Rogelio's lawyer tells him that Fernando has made sure that Ignacio has enough of his shares to be on the board.
Please add anything I left out.
Rogelio's comment that Fernando should just have let that guy threaten his own sister was odd.I don't get it. Someone is clearly threatening your secretary but it doesn't matter. Is Rogelio that self-absorbed or what?
It's interesting that Beatrice thinks it's all Ximena's fault. I am not entirely sure what her intentions are, but Beatrice doesn't lecture Fernando for some reason. Women sure think other women have a lot of power over men.
I also find it interesting Rogelio now is fine with taking out a loan if he previously had refused.
I'm a bit annoyed there are so many pregnancies in this telenovela. It is starting to feel like someone was obsessed with them.
Poor Luis. Martina is listening to his conversations now. Would she watch him making love in his bedroom too? I bet she'd tell him everything that he is doing wrong. I like Andrea, but I think I expected someone else for Luis. He has a personality that doesn't irritate me and his romance with Andrea feels somehow not what I was imagining.
Martina criticised the auntie for bringing cash instead of a cheque? This just reminded me of people who, when someone does something nice, still find something to criticise.
Is the whole Fernando Ximena plot meant to prove Imelda's mother was right? I mean, her actions don't justify what he might choose to do, but it does feel like a 'told you so' moment.
Gracias, Jarifa.
Rogelio is likely looking to keep Fernando out of the scandal sheets. They already have too many problems to take on another altercation. Ximena's brother looks unhinged.
I am wondering whether Martina sees Luis as being less than a man because he won't work in the family business. As for why he rejected Andrea's kiss it makes me wonder whether it was because of some sense of guilt about being unfaithful to his dreams of Paula or (only maybe) he's gay. We all know Martina would never stand for that.
Imelda made her bed and has to lie in it. The only thing that would hurt is her ego if Fernando cheats on her. I think Beatriz knows that. To paraphrase Livia Augusta (of I, Claudius) "It's a foolish mother who doesn't know her own daughter." Imelda is also well on her way to becoming a worse mother than either her own or her MIL every time she denies Ada the affection of others in the household.
Fernando will feel like a world-class idiot when he finally finds out that Ignacio took those photos.
Eva pregnant? Oy, vey. I can't wait to see Fidel's face when she tells him.
Martina rejecting the cash payback? I think she was offended that Eva was able to pay it back at all. It should have been a check just in case Martina would later try to deny having been paid back. Or does nobody do electronic transfer in Mexico?
It still bothers me that Ignacio has any right to challenge Hipolito's will after all this time. There should be a statute of limitations on this. He should not get the mansion just because he wants it. However I just had the lightbulb moment about why Irma didn't 20 years ago: Either she could not go back to Mexico to do so or was justifiably afraid her abusive husband would steal Ignacio's inheritance.
Jarifa, wow, what a great morning couchcap to start the day . I was out last night and only caught the last part of the show.
I noticed Imelda grabbed that poor bebe out of Paula's arms. Nasty person. How do people get to be like Imelda , so hard to like let alone love.
And so , Eva is upset because she is pregnant, while Felipa is upset because she isn't. Isn't that the way of the world. The Felipa actress had a very funny , fast talking comic role in an old Telenovela from around 8 years ago. Her talents are being wasted here.
I like watching the brothers helping each other. Baby bro Marco struggled to haul drunk Fernando to Bed. I guess Fernando always feels like second best .
Irma is spinning out of control . Martina sneaks around treating everyone in her orbit like puppets , but Irma is outright awful and scary . yikes . Bitter itch.
Surprising that the boys got into the fray at the bar to help Igy.
Sad about Erika.
OT There was a Paul Newman marathon on TCM last week. Wow.
Thank you Jarifa for your couchcaps! (I like it!) I didn’t get a chance to comment yesterday, busy day!!! I am still trying to pay attention, and still depending on your wonderful notes to tell me what I miss!
This episode made me LOL multiple times, first when Blanca said she was just ‘a little bit’ afraid of what Martina would say and Marco said she must be very brave then because he is much more than a little bit afraid of what mommy will say!!! Hehehe sad but funny, and honest.
Second, when Irma was cleaning late at night and Cecelia was trying to get her to go to bed and she stopped right behind Cece and said whatever it was she said, and Cece jumped a mile! I know, I know, it wasn’t funny but I laughed anyway. It was actually CREEPY but it definitely looked fun to film!!! The actress playing Irma was wonderful, she really sold the crazy in that scene!
I agree that it was cold for Rogelio to ask Fernando why he was getting involved with Ximena's problems. He may be trying to avoid scandal but it's still harsh to stand there right in front of the woman whose safety is at risk and admonish your brother for getting involved. And then to suggest next that she take a few days off is doubly so. That's truly a take your problems and get lost, good luck, type statement. I do think he is HIGHLY self-absorbed. Beatriz was way out of line with Ximena!!! I hate this act first, ask questions never type reaction. Poor girl is being stalked, threatened, nearly fired by her boss because she's inconvenient and now dragged around the room by her hair by the mother-in-law when she hasn't done anything wrong! Although, yeah, she does look too fond of Fernando.
It occurred to me early on that Luis might be gay but then it seemed not....it's weird that he would reject Andrea just because of his supposed love for Paula because it wasn't an issue with Aranza, I don't think...something is off there. But something is off everywhere in this house!
Thanks once again, Jarifa, for your notes from the couch. This show is two hours but it seems to go by quickly. I guess because there’s so many stories.
I would rather see Erika become good friends with Paula than have her die. And I guess we can hope that happens.
Ignacio played a similar character in a show I watched, S.O.S. something. It was a light drama but his hair was the same. He was lazy and spent his days trying to get money from women. I thought his hair was that way because of his character but I guess that’s his hair-do. He wants the mansion but he would have to share it with Martina!
Imelda is such a mean woman. She was awful to Felipa. Did Fernando just love the idea of being married to her and not know her personality. Beatriz was horrible when she attacked Ximena. That whole generation of women in this telenovela are crazy control freaks. But Beatriz should have talked to Fernando. Or even Imelda. She has been telling her her husband would look elsewhere. I’d like that marriage to end. And Cecelia’s too. Now that she knows what Ignacio wants she needs to tell Paula.
What fun that Eva is pregnant. Can’t wait to see where this goes! But poor Felipa, it does seem like everyone gets pregnant except her.
I wonder if Luis is losing interest in Andrea because his mother is pushing the romance. I do feel sorry for him as he is the one brother she is encouraging to move out.
Liz
Episode 11: Notes
Advisory: This is what I can write down during one viewing. Will stop if there is insufficient interest and no assistance.
Santos collapsed on the porch in front of Maria Teresa.
Clemente stayed with Bernarda and her daughters. She was grateful for his help. Valentina cried in front of Regina, afraid of what the would-be rapists would have done to or said about her.
El Chacal went to Marco to tell him that Esperanza now had nothing. He gave the impression that Santos was dead and Marco gave him a big wad of cash.
Chris took Santos to Remedio's place.
The surviving employees of Esperanza were being tended to.
Norma freaked out when Clemente told her where he had been the night before.
Valentina told her mother that the ranch was destroyed and many animals dead. Bernarda told her about Santos and she ran off.
Both Norma and Rutilio freaked out about Clemente running into the fray.
Remedios told Maria Teresa Santos would recover before going to help the others.
Bernarda emphasized to Regina that she was right about men. The hen house they were in was almost empty.
Rutilio went to Trejo's office to chew him out over Clemente although Trejo was not at fault. Maria Teresa walked in and confronted Rutilio while his spy at Esperanza found out that Santos was recovering.
Trejo said they would investigate. Maria Teresa threatened to go over his head of this was not satisfactory. Rutilio pounded the desk after she walked out.
Norma told Adriana what happened. Adriana blamed it all on Maria Teresa but Norma didn't look convinced.
Santos imagined Maria Teresa visiting him, but it was Valentina there instead getting on our collective nerves. Remedios came in and he told her he wanted to see Maria Teresa who at that point was looking over the damage. [I hoped that the place was insured.] She thought about selling it. Bernarda told her not to give up.
Santos said that this was a planned attack and not a simple case of cattle rustling.
Trejo went after Clemente to scold him for jumping into this.
Rutilio made a false promise of assistance but it looked like Maria Teresa had a bad vibe about him.
Esteban went to Nany's place.
Marco went through the motions of helping Maria Teresa and found out that Santos was alive.
Rutilio entered saying he had to speak to Santos but Maria Teresa put him off. She then spoke of possibly selling the property.
Santos' groupies showed up at Remedio's place bringing food.
Marco chewed out El Chacal for failing to kill Santos. El Chacal (The Jackal) said he ordered his men to kill Santos but they failed. [Where's your brain, Marco, that you didn't demand the dinero back?]
Aurelio's funeral was held.
Rutilio was afraid of whom Maria Teresa was likely to talk to. He chewed Marco out in front of Trejo.
Santos went back to the hacienda to see Maria Teresa.
Episode 12: Notes
Advisory: This is what I can write down during one viewing. Will end if there is insufficient interest and no assistance.
Santos made a declaration of love... for the land as he prepared to kiss Maria Teresa. She resisted and they talked about the attack. She blamed herself. He limped back to his aunt's place. He later spoke at the funeral.
Rutilio, Marco, and Trejo realized they had painted themselves into a corner. Marcos pointed out that others had dirt on them.
Valentina told Santos he should be resting. She also told him about the rape attempt. He hugged her to comfort her. [Of course, but doesn't he realized she's obsessed with him?]
Genoveva brought Maria Teresa's dinner while Maria Teresa was looking for things to sell to get money for Juana (Aurelio's widow).
Bernarda told Santos that Maria Teresa was possibly going to sell. He said he would talk to her.
The next day Valentina made another pass at Santos.
Norma flew her helicopter above Clemete and it became another tug of war between her and Rutilio.
Marco darkened Esperanza's doors again, telling Maria Teresa that selling the property would be harder after what happened. Santos rejected his offer of advice and Maria Teresa stopped the argument that resumed after she went inside. Marco said “Enjoy your last days here.”
Rutilio chewed Clemente out for taking initiative, dismissing his efforts.
Maria Teresa collected items to sell, including silver platters that had been wedding gifts to her parents. Santos came in and Genoveva hugged him [Ouch!] Santos got Maria Teresa to come outside with him.
Bernarda was taking care of the beautiful black horse as Marco approached her. She was creeped out. He touched her inappropriately and tried to kiss her.
Santos showed Maria Teresa a very old tree with roots that looked like octopus tentacles. He talked about Maria Teresa's mother and love of the land, imploring her not to sell. She promised not to make a hasty decision.
Bernarda finally pushed Marco away. He forced a kiss on her and she slapped him, ordering him to leave her alone. He said he never would.
Clemente met Camila in the street who told him to watch out for the local authorities. No deets, but they had hurt her before.
Marco told El Chacal to turn in two of his men over the death toll at Esperanza. El Chacal was not without hesitation about this but Marco gave him another pile of cash.
Santos took all the saleable things to town. Maria Teresa endured a lot of trash talk from the local women.
Marco and Adriana talked. He wanted her to see Maria Teresa. She let him know she knew he was behind the attack,
Santos knew something was up with the local hostility toward Maria Teresa.
Clemente talked to Bernarda and her daughters about the attack; they told him everything they knew. However he struck out when he asked Bernarda for permission to date Regina.
Maria Teresa talked to Esteban about the ranch. It hurt him to hear she was thinking of selling it.
Adriana made an insincere offer of help, offering Maria Teresa two fat envelopes of cash. Maria Teresa declined.
Rutilio questioned Clemente about his investigation and was not happy when Clemente explained how he deduced that it had been planned. He tried to discourage him from continuing.
Valenina tried again to stake her claim on Santos as the others gathered more stuff to sell. Maria Teresa then decided to not sell the property.
This series deserves coverage so I went back on my word. I am asking for others to take over Monday and Friday at the least as I have to postpone viewing until the AM of the next day. In two weeks I will be out most evenings and opera season starts next month.
I don't think Fernando looked deeply into Imelda at all. He just saw red hair and good legs. Also, there is the old adage that you never know a person until you live with them. One hears many tales of those who hide their true selves until after the vows have been said.
It also bothers me that anyone would even consider marrying anyone without having sex beforehand. Sexual compatibility is very important.
Thanks, all, for stopping by. Things are moving quickly which is the only advantage I can see from having double episodes. This has kept my attention so far.
waterlily, "Rogelio's comment that Fernando should just have let that guy threaten his own sister was odd.I don't get it. Someone is clearly threatening your secretary but it doesn't matter. Is Rogelio that self-absorbed or what?" Good question. Every so often Rogelio dies something that seems so out of character, it makes you wonder. All I could think was how callous he was. I guess that is how really people are though, they can and often do, surprise you. What bothers me about the pregnancies is that evidently nobody thinks about birth control and it is A-okay to have a baby whenever with whomever.
Darcy, It occurred to me early on that Luis might be gay but then it seemed not....it's weird that he would reject Andrea just because of his supposed love for Paula because it wasn't an issue with Aranza, I don't think...something is off there. But something is off everywhere in this house! ITA about that super creepy scene between Irma and Ceciia. The actress playing Irma is Ana Berta Espín and I have never seen her in such a creepy role. She is perfect.
Urban, "It was interesting that Martina didn't want the money from Eva. I will vote for your option of her being offended that Eva was able to pay her back. I think she would have been delighted to have kept her on the line as an informer. As for a cash or electronic transfer to keep track of the payment being made, I would bet that Eva deals in cash only. Loved the "I, Claudius" quote.
Susan, the "couchcap" still has me smiling. "Eva is upset because she is pregnant, while Felipa is upset because she isn't. Isn't that the way of the world." Now that Melitón has taken the pressure off of Felipa, will she end up pregnant? I have heard about that happening in the real world more than once. I would have liked to have seen Alejandra Ley "Felipa" in teh other novela. It sounds like a more comic role. Unfortunately, I do not have TCM.
Darcy, you sure called it on that scene between Cecilia and Irma. It could not have been creepier. Ana Berta Espín is wonderful as Irma. Until this novela, I though her best role was in "Soy tu dueña but she has even surpassed that." "It occurred to me early on that Luis might be gay but then it seemed not....it's weird that he would reject Andrea just because of his supposed love for Paula because it wasn't an issue with Aranza, I don't think...something is off there. But something is off everywhere in this house!" You can sure say that again. I have no idea what Luis' problem is. Does he want to feel something fro Andrea but just can't because of his feelings for Paula?
Liz, interesting comment about Juan Martín Jauregui (Ignacio) playing a similar role in "SOS Me estoy enámorando." I somehow missed that novela but now that I have looked I up, it looks like it has a great cast. I wish they would put on some of those lighter novelas in the evening. "He wants the mansion but he would have to share it with Martin" It looks like that would not work for Ignacio, or Martina. " I do feel sorry for him (Luis)as he is the one brother she (Martina) is encouraging to move out. " I was surprised that he was as hurt as he was when Martine didn't object to him moving out. Very sad.
CORRECTION
DARCY, you got a double answer. Looks like my "editng" isn't going very well today. LOL Hope it improves by tonight.
Urban, thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I really like this TN but I get lost in some of the dialogue. I appreciate the recap because it filled in some of the blanks. I also don't know some of the names of the characters, so your recap helped with that.
I was intrigued by the interaction between Bernarda and Marco. It seems like they have a history. I have been curious about who is the father of Regina and Valentina. I wonder if Marco could be the father? Bernarda obviously has been hurt very badly by a man (or men). She seems to be very bitter and distrustful of men. However, at least to me, by not immediately rejecting Marco it seems like she still has some feelings for him. I am looking forward to learning the history between them and what happened to shape Bernarda's attitude toward men.
I also hope Maria Teresa soon learns how devious Marco is.
Lester
Thanks, Jarifa. I had a great afternoon break catching up with your notes from the couch.
Ha ha ha, Eva is pregnant. It's all fun and games until the rabbit dies. ;> Now she and Fidel are in the same boat as everyone else -- needing to have a serious talk about their relationship. I think these two will make it.
All the guys jumping in with fists to defend Ignacio didn't work for me. Yes, they should've protected him from getting clobbered. But the free-for-all was much to do about nothing. He's a nasty guy who could care less about any of them.
Since Cecilia is determined to hang in there with her great love Ignacio, I'm trying to remember their great love and romance. Coming up blank. He was using her from Day 1. Granted he feels something for her, but what's in her best interest never enters his mind. It's all me me me and how my dad screwed me over, so I'm entitled to go off on you sometimes.
Beatriz was so wrong coming after Ximena like that, but still I laughed because there seems to be a trend in TNs lately where nice girls have no quibble about stirring it up with a married man. Sweet and kind Ximena, you have been warned.
After a busy day , I was finally able to watch last night's episode .
Wow, Marco got down on a knee for Blanca . Then she climbed on top of him . I hope one of them thinks of birth control this time around . I hope blonde biker chick doesn't show up and Marco falls back to his wild player ways . "Players only love you when they're playing ."
When BSC Irma was dusting she turned over the photo of Ceci and Igy. Yikes .A jealous mother in law.
I think the brothers' bar crawl was supposed to signal the boys coming together . To me , Fernando is the one who looks least like the other 4, but Rog is the eldest and may be the product of the enchanted cottage.
I guess Fernando is drawn to the Secretary because she isn't a bitter itch like Imelda . Hey, he's a married man.
What was going on with Blanca's friend who got bumped by the car ?
OT There was a slightly longer promo for " Midas" last night. Looking forward to that one.
Niecie, thanks for noting: "Beatriz was so wrong coming after Ximena like that, but still I laughed because there seems to be a trend in TNs lately where nice girls have no quibble about stirring it up with a married man. Sweet and kind Ximena, you have been warned." You are right!
Susan, "Rog is the eldest and may be the product of the enchanted cottage."made me smile. Could be.
Thanks, Urban, I have a lot of questions about this telenovela. My first would be Santos is always smiling! His lips must naturally turn up! One of my kids said I have a resting itch face. So if I’m not smiling or talking I look mad or sad I guess! So a little envy for Santos with a resting smile face.
Clemente did exactly what his father had wanted him to do, act like a man, do a man’s job. So he does and dad is not pleased. I bet he’s really angry that Clemente figured out it was a planned attack. Eventually he’ll figure out his dad.
Valentina gets on my last nerve. She looks about 15 and won’t leave Santos alone.
I can’t wait for María Teresa to figure Marco out. And her boyfriend. But it might take a while. I hope I don’t offend anyone by saying every time someone says María Teresa I hear Mother Teresa!
Liz
Speaking of promo's I don't like the one for Tierra that refers to Carolina Miranda as the 'international star of the moment' or something like that....I know it's supposed to be complimentary but to me it sounds like they are saying she's in the middle of her 15 mins! It sounds like a back-handed compliment at best...
Speaking of Tierra, I am still watching but I can't commit to covering any days right now Urban. I am just really busy currently and lots of things are in transition right now. I am having a hard time finding balance in my schedule as is. I do like the show although it's gotten a little darker in recent episodes. I can't imagine how Bernarda actually expects to keep her daughters from ever having any relationship with men of any kind!!! That's so wacky and sad, she's obviously got some very deep untreated wounds from whatever she's been through.
Highlights from the couch . . .
ERIKA/LUCAS Erika's doctor thinks that it is time to take her tumor out. It is encapsulated so once it is removed, she should be okay. Erika prepares for surgery by making some recordings for Lucas in case she doesn't make it. She makes things right with Rogelio and Paula. Unfortunately, Erika faints and is hospitalized. Her doctor says they have to take the tumor out ASAP. Before her surgery, she talks with Rogelio who thanks her for having given him the greatest gift of his life, his son. She talks with Paula who promises her, if anything happens to her, to take care of Lucas as her own. She makes it clear she will never try to replace Erika as his mother because Erika is is unique and irreplaceable. Erika has a few final precious words with Lucas. The surgery goes well. Erika regains consciousness for a few seconds and tells her sister to tell Lucas that everything will be fine. Her heart stops and she cannot be revived. Almost everyone including Ignacio is at the funeral. Everyone tries to make Lucas comfortable in his new home at La Villa. He gets along with everyone but suddenly is not fond of Paula. He is about to become less fond of her because Imelda is actively poisoning him against Paula saying that she wants to take his mother's place.
ROGELIO is having a hard time. He tells his chef friend Pedro that he can't deal with the pressure at the business. He never gets any credit for anything that goes right but everyone blames him when something goes wrong. Now, there is the issue of Fernando giving his shares to Ignacio. Pedro reminds him he cannot control it all. Rogelio gives Paula credit for being the only things that calms him down. Rogelio tells Martina what Fernando did with his shares. She asks why Rogelio didn't stop him. Rogelio asks how?? Fernando has always been impulsive. He has no idea of how he is going to fix it but knows it is his job to do so. Rogelio tells Fernando he is having a hard time learning to be a father. Fernando smiles.
ROGELIO/BROS Rogelio tells Fernando off about giving Ignacio enough shares to be on the board. He later talks with Fidel and the lawyer about how they can get Ignacio off the board. The lawyer tells them that if Ignacio were convicted of some crime since he has been given his shares, they could eject him from the board. They decide to do some research to find out if Ignacio has any friends who are inmates that he might have covered for in the past. Later, Ignacio shows up wanting an office since he is now a board member. Rogelio controls his temper and says he will have a small office as of today and then they will find him something more appropriate.
IRMA Adela calls Ignacio let him know that she cannot take the mistreatment that Irma dishes out anymore. She has packed up and is gone. Ignacio tells Irma to pack up and get ready to move the next day to her new place. She moves in and complains from the moment they arrive. Later, she overdoses on her high blood pressure meds and faints which sends her to the hospital. She tells Ignacio that she overdosed on purpose. She wants to die. Nobody wants her anymore. She blames it all on Cecilia.
Irma re-reads an old letter from Hipólito that he wrote her when he knew he was dying. He wanted to have a meeting with her and Martina so he could acknowledge Ignacio as his son, give him his last name and assure him of all rights his other sons had. He knew that Irma never forgave him for not giving up his family for her. She also could form a family of her own. He asked her not to poison Ignacio against him. He never wanted Ignacio to think that he didn't love him because that would only make him vengeful. The meeting evidently never happened. Irma is happy that Hipólito died without his conscience being relieved because that doesn't compare with everything that she and Ignacio went through because of him . She hopes that he hasn't been resting in peace. She tells him he can go and rot for all she cares. She decides to keep the letter.
EVA/FIDEL Eva makes Cecilia promise not to tell anyone she is pregnant. The truth comers out quickly enough when Eva is stuck in an elevator at the Iturbide Company. She calls for help not wanting her baby to die. Of course, Fidel, Rogelio and Paula hear. Fidel is happy to be a father and to have a family. He was orphaned at an early age. He was taken care of by the Church but never adopted. At the age of eight, Martina's foundation sponsored him. That is how he got his education and ended up being hired at the Iturbide Company. Eva and Fidel go for their first ultrasound. The baby is fine so far but the doctor tells Eva that there will be more ultrasounds since she has a high risk pregnancy due to her advanced age. That does not go over well with Eva.
MARCO/BLANCA Marco arranges a romantic dinner for Blanca at the garage. He proposes to her. She admits that she is crazy in love with him but it is not the time to be getting married. They have to think about his mother and also she is just starting her career and is not willing to put that on hold. So, she isn't saying no but is just asking him to wait for a while. He says he would wait forever for her. He shows her the project he is working on. He has taken a bus and redesigned it to be a traveling hotel room. He suggests that he could be in charge of the mechanics and the outside and she could design the interior which is her field of study. He is going to run the idea past Rogelio and if he decides to support it, they could be partners on this project. He finds out from Rogelio that he needs to make an appointment for him to give his project the attention it deserves. As for the marriage proposal, Marco isn't giving up on that either. Micaela overhears them talking and tells Blanca to be careful because Martina could give her a hard time.
IGNACIO/THERAPIST Ignacio seems to be having breakthroughs with his therapist. Cecilia tells Paula she is hopeful that his therapy will solve their problems. In the first session of the episodes, he finds out that things are so bad with his mother right now because their roles are shifting. He is starting to see his mother as another adult. It is hard now because she is used to being in control. He cannot keep acting like a little kid because he has a wife. Ignacio feels like he is failing his mother and wife. The therapist say the time is coming when he is going to have to choose between being his mother's title boy or a husband to the woman he loves and with whom he can form a family of his own. When he starts to show his mother that his wife is his priority, he can expect resistance on his mother's part. The therapist thinks it is positive that he is staring to realize what she is talking about. In the next visit, the discussion revolves around Ignacio attending Erika's funeral. On one hand he did feel bad for Rogelio but on the other hand he went to see him suffer because that is what he enjoys. He admits he didn't really think about Rogelio's son consciously but he did feel the emptiness that he felt when he is father left him all over again. The therapist suggests that the adult Ignacio could start to look for hugs that would be a way of hugging that child that he once was. It would help him become aware of what a healthy loving relationship feels like. He takes her suggestion to heart and asks Cecilia to give him a hug. She does.
EVERYTHING ELSE
Martina tells Gabriel that she does't want their relationship made public yet. Marco sees Gabriel give her a peck on the way out and asks about him and her. Martina refuses to answer his question. Martina makes up with Luis and apologizes. She wants him to stay. He accepts the apology but thinks it is still better if he moves out.
Luis Andrea are getting along just fine.
Fernando helps Ximena find a new apartment. They almost kiss but then decide they need to get back to work.
Martina stands up for Marco and his job at the garage when Imelda makes fun of it. Martina thinks the any honest work is honorable.
That is it for tonight. Please add anything I did not include.
This was a lot longer tonight but I found Ignacio's conversations with the therapist as well as the content of Hipólito's letter quite interesting.
Being a huge La Patrona fan (this was my first novela), I'll watch this just to see what will get changed. I don't have high hopes but who knows, maybe I'll be proven wrong. Being a huge Antonia Guerra fan (her quotes were awesome!), I have even more doubts of this show. IMO, no actress can beat Christian Bach's acting and Antonia Guerra was one and only. Oh well. We'll see.
I'm currently working on an "Antes del Gran Estreño" page for Minas, just like the one I did with La Madrastra (with page breaks and tagged this time ;)).
Btw, is the tag going to be Minas?
It's great fun! The actress who plays the villain (Reina) in "Entre tu amor y mi amor" absolutely steals the show. The novela also features the lead actress en ETYMA (Rosmeri Merival) as her youngest daughter who has a stutter.
It was a big hit in Venezuela.
Martina's 'why didn't you stop him' was funny. Has she forgotten how 'successful' she was at separating Rogelio and Paula? She clearly thinks both she and Rogelio just can and must get their way. It doesn't occur to her she is failing spectacularly.
So Irma deliberately made Ignacio hate his father when she could have prevented all of this. And what is this 'it's nothing compared to what we went through'? There would have been nothing 'to go through' if Hipolito had recognised his son because she would have had the money to leave her abusive husband. I don't get her obsession with Hipolito. I find women like her baffling. There must be something in her past to make her want to cling to a man like this. What an awful person, though.
In one episode Paula praises Rogelio for feeling empathy for both Fernando and Ignacio. I never got the impression he empathised with Fernando. Also, Fernando actually told them to put themselves in Ignacio's shoes long before Rogelio even thought of this. Paula is definitely way too in love with the guy. Someone here said Rogelio has grown on them whereas I just feel more and more dislike towards him. There's something about him thatmakes him even more annoying than Fernando.
Poor Lucas. Was it really necessary to kill off Erica? I've seen this a million times. When someone mentioned there's a lot of chracter development in this telenovela, I was expecting Erica and Paula would learn to get along, not for them to go the old 'let's murder ex girlfriend' route. DDisappointing. Carlos Rivera's song they picked for the funeral is lovely though. I find it hard to listen to it somehow.
I've never seen sessions with a therapist in a telenovela. And these sessions were actually interesting and felt real.
Micaela isn't wrong. Blanca won't know what's waiting for her until she actually has to go through it herself. People rarely learn from the experiences of others. And I still think Marco isn't worth the trouble somehow. I don't trust him. Why this urge to get married? Everyone is getting married and having kids in this telenovela. Come on! Don't they have more interesting things to do? I hope Blanca doesn't change her mind about having kids because this would feel a bit ridiculous.
So what was up with Luis in the previous episode if all is fine between him and Andrea now? I'd have loved to have seen him having to fight for his relationship because I would have loved to have seen him put in this situation. Oh well...Martinais just like Rogelio: attacks first and then oh I'm sorry.
Imelda is sick.Is she treating Lucas like this because he is another one stealing all the attention? Did her parents ignore her when she was little?Because her desire for attention isastonishing. She is also so spiteful and mean. I wonder how she turned into such a person.
Eternamente
Jarifa, thank you for another excellent couchcap to start the day.
It will be interesting to see if the counseling helps Igy. I know three counselors , and I always wonder how they can listen to their people's pain and problems all day everyday. The part about the counselor telling Igy to ask for hugs made me think of the" bro hug" he gave Rog . You know , the way guys shake hands and then pull each other into a hug. Young guys do that , but it seems to confuse older guys .
What is up with Blanca's friend ? Does she have a problem ? Another PSA?
I noticed Ulises is still hanging around looking lovesick and making Rog possesively hugging and kissing popular Pauly.
Now we know why Fidel is so devoted to the family . He has a sad childhood story and wants a family of his own, so besides being comic relief, he is providing us with a positive storyline, joyful sex leading to a happy family .
My favorite part was all the brothers coming to hug Lucas . He will eventually appreciate this big family and his loving uncles . Imelda is a witch to harrass this poor kid who has just lost the most important person in his life. Shameful to do this to a grieving child. Dealing with grief is dufficukt for adults but can be overwhelming and terrifying for children.
The song at the funeral was hauntingly beautiful. Does anyone know the title and the singer ? I didn't understand the words but I felt the sorrow and longing . So many of the telenovela theme songs are beautiful and filled with emotion.
Marco is showing his love for his family and Blanco. I hope he continues his hero's journey and doesn't back slide . I find him very charming and sensitive . I think he can stand up to his mother . He has to find his path . ..what he wants to be, do , have and give.
Gracias, Jarifa.
Lucas' reaction is normal for a kid that age but it will get worse thanks to Imelda and to the fact that Paula is now pregnant. Imelda will use that to tell the poor kid he will become unimportant in his father's life.
Martina was taking the right path with Lucas, but then again he is her first grandchild. An ideal one, too, in many ways. Son of her eldest, smart, polite, and mostly unselfish. She couldn't ask for better than that. This is also making Imelda crazier every day.
Imelda married Fernando for the social entree she expected to get by marrying into this family. Beatriz even tried talking her out of that because she knows Martina well. Imelda also probably thought she could wrap Fernando around her pinky, but by being frigid she can't do that. She must be resisting him sexually now as before; does anyone remember how long ago Ada was born?. Is it now two months later? The new freezeout could be why Fernando is contemplating boinking his secretary, who is not only pretty, she's a much nicer person.
As for how Imelda became who she is I think that her parents neglected her in favor of their social life. That is why she was so hot to get Rogelio who has all the privileges of being a first-born son in addition to being the most sexually attractive of Martina's sons. He is handsome, in charge, confident, good with people, generous, and looks like he will be a good father. Raised in the snobbish environment of local society Fernando is second best which means crap to Imelda who has no knowledge of what it takes to run a business. She's lucky that he is working on being a good father, starting with being okay with his first child being a girl.
Note also that Imelda is an only child and we know that Beatriz' husband is not Imelda's sperm donor. That will mean something before this tale ends.
Imelda becoming an obsessive mother comes from all this. She is looking to alienate most other adults so that Ada will not go to them instead of herself for affection in the future. Paula is the one she hates most because she has Rogelio. If Paula's baby is a son Imelda will really go off the deep end.
More later.
Thank you Jarifa! I haven't had a chance to watch yet but maybe that's okay....I can't stand watching selfish adults manipulate innocent children!!! Why oh why torture a grieving child?? That's just plain evil..
I'm with you waterlily, Rogelio hasn't grown on me at all.
Jarifa, wow, that was an insightful analysis of these characters . Right on the money, especially your take on why Imelda is now so controlling with Ava. I hope that stops because the best thing you can do for your child is give him or her lots of people to love and be loved by. Thank goodness Erika came back because now Lucas is surrounded by people who love him and want to help and support him ...except Imelda. Even ...surprise....Martina , who seems like a loving abuela right now.
Episode 13: Notes
Advisory: This is what I can write down during one viewing. Will end if there is insufficient interest or no assistance.
After Maria Teresa made her announcement Santos and the others pledged their efforts. Valentina looked put out at this but hugged him before leaving.
Norma confronted Rutilio over his inconsistent attitude toward Clemente's work, She left the dinner table taking her plate with her.
Adriana trash-talked Maria Teresa over her pride in not taking the proffered cash. Marco had expected that reaction and told Adriana to trust him. [Little does he know he should not trust her.]
Maria Teresa, Santos, and Chris talked about getting other people involved.
Aldo pretended to follow Esteban's orders and went into a fake tirade at being told about the attack. He trash-talked Santos, but Esteban was having none of that.
Santos decided to take their goods to a farther town. Valentina tried to go along.
Aldo called Maria Teresa, pretending to offer help. She asked him to stay with her father. He said “I will take care of him” [I'm betting he has his own definition of that statement.]
Clemente handed his reports to Trejo, who distracted him with other paperwork.
Valentina crashed the departure but Bernarda came to Santos' rescue and stopped her.
Adriana was behind the lack of sales in their town. She had slandered Maria Teresa all over the place among the other women. Bernarda told Valentina to stay away from Santos because “I don't want you to become another of his conquests.”
Marco and Rutilio talked about their plot.
Santos and Maria Teresa arrived in Porto Chico and called out for customers.
Marco went to Esperanza to look for Maria Teresa and was not happy when Bernarda told him that Maria Teresa was not interested in selling the property.
Rutilio and Trejo put their heads together.
Maria Teresa and Santos ran into Julieta who directed them to a potential big customer for their produce.
Clemente and Trejo had a difference of opinion, which must be because of puppet-master Rutilio.
Marco told Adriana that Maria Teresa was not selling, provoking nasty and critical remarks.
Clemente explained whom he will talk to next and Trejo told him he had to do other stuff.
Marco intended to drive Maria Teresa to desperation, insisting that Adriana help him.
Valentina and Chris talked about Santos.
Rutilio looked for Bernarda when he heard that Maria Teresa was not at the ranch. He told her that one of the guilty was ready to talk, and it was someone recognizable.
Santos and Maria Teresa looked for the customer but got a door slammed in their faces.
Regina asked questions about Rutilio. Bernarda told her to avoid him at all costs.
MY and Santos sold everything to Don Danilo and made a future deal. He had customers from nearby towns, so Maria Teresa was off to a good start.
The Jackal took in his pigeons. Trejo told them they would only be locked up for a few days. The Jackal threatened one of them sotto voce.
Clemente ate with his parents and said he was not satisfied with only two men (out of a possible 20) in jail. Rutilio got on his case for his questions and told him to cool it.
Maria Teresa and Santos talked business as they were stuck in gridlock that night. The bridge was out [I think] and it would be a while. He suggested they check into a nearby posada to rest.
Marco and The Jackal questioned Juan who told them what was going on. They sent him back for more info.
Maria Teresa and Santos ate at the nearest place. Santos asked about Aldo and laughed at how he would have fared during the attack. He strongly implied that Aldo was not the right man for her.
Aldo called the ranch and was told that Maria Teresa was away selling goods with Santos. He almost had a tantrum.
There was only one room at the inn... and it has only a “marital bed.”
Thanks, Jarifa, i always look forward to reading your “notes”. They fill in so much.
Erika’s death and funeral were very sad. I wish they had let her live. And Ignacio going because he likes to see Rogelio suffer. Will he ever realize Martina and family really had nothing to do with his father’s choices. We know he will find the letter his mother didn’t tear up. I wonder how that will affect him.
I don’t blame Fernando for being attracted to his secretary. She’s everything his wife is not. And speaking of Imelda, I saw another telenovela with a child being verbally tortured by an adult. I hope they don’t drag this out because I hate watching it. I also worry for Paula and her baby. Imelda would gladly push Paula down those stairs.
Marco seems to be trying to rush Blanca into something she’s not ready for. I hope she continues to resist. She should realize she would be treated worse than Paula by Martina. Her youth will make her a prime target.
I wonder if Paula and Rogelio will have any more separations. He really seems to have to work at holding in his jealousy of the other guy-U….
I had to laugh when Ignacio told Rogelio he wanted his own office. Will Fernando realize this is all his doing? He should have to share his office or take the smaller one!
I didn’t realize Imelda had made fun of Marco’s job. She really won’t have anyone on her side eventually
I think Felipa and Melton will end up adopting!
Thank goodness for Eva and Fidel-the bright spots in the evening!
Liz
Thanks, Urban, for your notes. I don’t have all the names down yet but feel that Clemente is going to go against his dad and the cop and try to get to the bottom of this. I bet his dad will wish he let him go to art school.
If Adriana has to befriend María Teresa the other women in the town will start to wonder about that. Norma is already suspicious.
If Aldo and Marco ever team up it will be bad for the ranch. They already seem to be on the same page with selling the ranch.
It will be fun tonight to see how sharing a room/bed goes
Liz
Marco is a typical impulsive teen. He is emotionally immature as 22 going on 15. That he is working is a good thing and that Imelda makes fun of him is not. However it won't make her look good to be caught by any of her in-laws with the exception of Ignacio who is also her cousin.
I didn't catch a lot of the conversation about his idea about converting a bus into a hotel room but I can't see profitability in that and I think Rogelio felt the same way. Marco should watch Te Doy la Vida whose hero became a luxury car designer.
Lucas finally got it on with Andrea but where did that happen? Martina will have a conniption either way.
Irma needs a shrink but is highly unlikely to agree to it. The fact that she kept that letter from Hipolito will backfire on her eventually, especially if Ignacio finds it.
Marco and Aldo are already connected through someone else; both are involved in the contraband dealing, which I suspect is either firearms or drugs. Give it time.
If Clemente asked me for advice I'd recommend he leave the area and go to an arts-oriented college. Norma is just as toxic for him as Rutilio (whom I think is the sperm donor of one of Bernarda's daughters).
I don't know how old Bernarda's daughters are but I am willing to bet that Valentina was in the cradle when Santos began working at Esperanza, so he will never be to her what she wants him to be.
BTW I just did a little research...
Otto Sirgo (Gabriel) is now 77. In this photo he is 57 and he had a few hot scenes with Mayrin Villanueva who is 24 years younger than he.
Susan, I believe the song they played at the funeral, if it's the one I'm thinking of, is la luna del cielo by Carlos Rivera. This telenovela has a lot of his songs. I still can't figure out what song by this artist played when Erica was looking at Rogelio's photos.
Thanks all for stopping by and your insightful comments.
waterlily," I've never seen sessions with a therapist in a telenovela. And these sessions were actually interesting and felt real. " Me either and the sessions were the real highlights the episode for me because we got to hear how Ignacio actually felt no matter how twisted it was.
Darcy, I hope you get to see these for Ignacio's therapy sessions if nothing else. Imelda was up to no good with Lucas for a very short time.
Susan, Blanca's friend is Tamara. She needs medication for her anxiety but is currently getting it on the black market rather than seeing a doctor or trying to get some therapy.
Urban, BINGO: "She (Imelda) is looking to alienate most other adults so that Ada will not go to them instead of herself for affection in the future. " She needs to fell she is #1 some where. Unfortunately, that is her personality. Thanks for the photo of Otto Sirgo.
Liz,"I wonder if Paula and Rogelio will have any more separations. He really seems to have to work at holding in his jealousy of the other guy-U….". Exactly. I know that Rogelio should not be jealous in an ideal world BUT why would Ulises be hanging around when he had a good thing going on where he was except for Paula? She is so blind to it that it is unbelievable.
I will return . . maybe. Thursdays are always busy for me.
Imelda is a textbook narcissist. She need to be the center of attention no matter what. She would commit murder to get it. We should watch for evidence of Munchausen's by Proxy since there is more than enough time for a story like that.
Waterlily, thank you so much . I listened to Carlos Rivera sing the song ( sessions at Abby Road ) and cried again at that haunting melody. Then, I found the lyrics in English and cried again . I am now a big fan of Carlos Rivera ,What a beautiful, soulful voice. He is a new find for me . I love music , and I love the music that the telenovelas have introduced to me.
The brother was Hecham Aljad, someone who yes, many people swooned over but turned out to be an absolute one-hit wonder.
The main reason to watch this is for Carlota Sosa's Marbelis. She creates a villain with so many catch-phrases and mannerisms that as evil as she is, you can not help but want more of her!
Her performance as Reina in this novela is very much typical villain but with Marbelis she really creates a terrifically entertaining- yet HORRIBLE- character.
Several of the actors went on to appear in Telemundo novelas. I remember watching a truly horrible novela called "Santa Diabla" and upon seeing so many familiar faces from Valgame, thinking to myself "These poor Venezuelan actors. They finally made it all the way to Miami, only to act in THIS crap???"
So, her Martina is only 'robbing the cradle' a little. ;-)
I can hardly believe it though. What a great performer she is.
In comparison, Ana Bertha Espin (Irma) is only 64. Doesn't anybody remember her as the scheming, money-hungry Tia Rosaura in "La que no podia amar"???
She was terrific in that too. A totally different villain than dark and deranged Irma here.
I also remember her most recently in "Te acuerdas de mi?"
A VERY accomplished actress, obviously. It seems she can do ANYTHING well!
He won awards for his portrayal, if I recall correctly, but now seems devoted just to singing.
That was actually a very interesting telenovela- totally different from others. Did anyone here see it??
Anonymous ,I read on Wikipedia that Carlos was in that novela, but for some reason I did not watch. I know that the folks at Caray Caray liked that show.
