Busy day, but I will have a recap up tonight for Monday's show. A lot of cuts in this ep.
Thanks for your patience.
Quote for Turkish ep #29: "How can I keep my soul in myself, so that it doesn't touch your soul? How can I raise it high enough, past you, to other things?" - Rilke
Ceylin shows up at Ilgaz’s office, he’s not there. Ozge tells her he hasn’t been there since yesterday. Ceylin asks why. Ozge answers, he said it was personal. Ceylin leaves.
Neva is with Derya. Derya complains to Neva about Pars. We were handling the case together, she says, but now when I want to ask him something, he gets angry. He avoids me. Neva says that happens with him sometimes.
Derya asks, what are you hiding? I know that look and I know your brother. Is there something you’re not telling me? Neva denies hiding. Derya accuses her of being involved in something with Pars and Ilgaz. Neva asks about Derya’s suspicions. Derya replies that the suspected killer wasn’t sent directly for arraignment. Neva says she knows nothing and cuts her visit short.
Yekta and Yavuz take their leave from Pars. But Yekta can’t leave without asking, do you think you’ll catch Zafer’s real killer? Is anybody investigating? Pars tells him to get out. Yekta laughs. [If he had a bigger mustache he definitely would twirl it]
Ceylin runs into Yekta and Yavuz. She immediately becomes agitated. What is this man doing out? Who released him? Yekta asks her to calm down. This only increases her upset. Who released you? You should be in a cell!
I didn’t kill him, Yavuz fires back. Shut up! You’re a murderer, Ceylin shouts. They start to draw attention. Yekta says Yavuz is telling the truth. Ceylin says it’s a lie. Would he be released, Yekta asks. Is he handcuffed? Yekta calls for security. Call DA Pars.
Pars comes out of his office and heads down the hall. Ceylin demands and explanation and Pars tells her Yavuz is innocent. Yekta and Yavuz leave.
Ilgaz and Eren go to Ozgur’s shop. They drag him to the back of the store. Where’s Cinar? He plays dumb. Ilgaz gives him a little slap—where’s Cinar? Ozgur lies he hasn’t seen Cinar in years. Ilgaz says we know you followed him. You didn’t let him leave. Ilgaz roughs him up. Ozgur says, I’ll tell, I’ll tell.
Ceylin is with Pars. Who killed my father? Pars can’t look at her. She repeats, who killed my father? Since you released Yavuz, you must know. Don’t protect them because I will find them. Pars says they are still looking, but they will be found and brought to justice. She asks, is that why Ilgaz isn’t here? Yes, he replies, we’ve all been in action to find the killer. You should rest. You can stay here. She leaves.
Pars calls Ilgaz. Ceylin saw Yavuz. I couldn’t keep her here. Maybe she went home. Ilgaz says they are going somewhere to find Cinar. Pars asks for the location to meet them.
Neva and Derya see Ceylin in the hall. Derya keeps digging for info—who are you protecting, Neva? Neva says don’t ask her, ask Chief Metin.
Yekta’s car pulls alongside Ceylin as she walks down the street. I wonder why your husband, the DA, didn’t tell you. Something happened and you didn’t know? Aren’t you interested in learning who’s your father’s killer? Ilgaz came to my office in search of the truth, but you weren’t with him.
Ceylin is confused, why did he go to you? Yekta laughs, he didn’t tell you? What do you want from me, she asks. Yekta opens his door so Ceylin can get in.
Ilgaz tells Eren that Ceylin found out about Yavuz. Now we have to tell her the truth.
Derya comes to see the AG. But I’m not sure what that was about. Was that cut?
Ilgaz calls Metin, we know where Cinar is. We are getting him. Prepare to turn yourself in.
Where are we going, Ceylin asks Yekta. To discover the truth, he replies. I’m taking you to your father’s killer. They arrive at the abandoned building where Zafer took Cinar. Yekta tells her, this is where we discover the facts, where you find out who is a friend and who is an enemy… who is a lover, who is a father.
Yekta continues, I told you Ceylin, I am your only friend in this life. Everyone hid the truth from you… Pars, Eren, Metin, Cinar…. and what’s worse, the man you love, the monument of honesty, DA Ilgaz! They all kept the truth from you!
Ceylin gets out of the car and hurries to the building. Yekta stops her. Do you know who killed your father? Cinar! No, she cries. Do you know who covered it up, Yekta asks. Chief Metin! It’s impossible, Ceylin replies.
Yekta says he’s seen a lot over the years. I’ve been involved in painful situations. Who discovered the truth and kept it from you? Everybody! But especially Ilgaz, so you wouldn’t judge him. He tried to protect Cinar. That’s why he’s been so busy. As your only friend, I took possession of the murderer. See for yourself, with your own eyes. I brought him here, where he killed your father.
Ceylin sobs. Yekta continues, go inside and look at the killer. Go and do what you will. Ceylin takes slow, hesitant steps towards the building and Yekta gets back in his car.
Ilgaz, Eren and Pars are in the building, trying to untie Cinar from a chair. Ceylin walks in. We get a rewind of events all the way back to Inci’s body being pulled from a dumpster.
Then we go back one year. To a murder scene. Eren is there. Metin is there. Ilgaz arrives. A 17-year-old boy, in a car, shot dead. Eren says there was an engagement party happening. Metin points out the kid’s family. They were invited to the party. The kid’s name is Cihan. The family was leaving, he took the keys and went ahead. The moment he got in the car, he was shot.
Ilgaz asks if there were witnesses. No. Cameras on the street? No. Ilgaz says to question the neighbors and get statements from the family. Find out if the kid had priors and search the area.
Next morning at the station, Eren tells Ilgaz the family said Cihan was a good kid. High school student. Had lots of friends. No enemies. Eren says they found a car in a nearby alley. The door was ajar and there was a gun inside. It’s going to ballistics. Ilgaz asks about the car’s owner. Cagdas Muhter. He’s been staying in a hotel in Kadakoy. Ilgaz says to question him.
Eren goes to question Cagdas. Where is the lawyer I asked for, he says. Umut calls Ceylin during her dance class. We need a lawyer, can you come?
Eren tells Ilgaz that Cagdas is from Antep. He was here for work. His record is clean. Ilgaz says to send his statement when you get it. Eren mentions they have a soccer game later. Don’t invite Pars. Your BIL is crazy. Ilgaz laughs. Eren says he wonders if Neva was adopted.
Ceylin arrives at the station. We see she doesn’t know Ilgaz or Eren yet. She speaks with Umut. She meets with Cagdas. Someone was murdered last night. Cagdas says he didn’t kill him. I didn’t even know him. Your rental car was there, she replies, there was a gun in it. It’s not mine, he says. She asks if he rented the car.
Ceylin lays it out for Cagdas. You rented the car and murdered the kid. You left the gun and fled. Why would I leave the gun, he asks. They will say it was your first crime, Ceylin replies. Cagdas says it wasn’t him. Ceylin asks, tell me what you know. He stays silent. She can’t defend him if he doesn’t talk. He could go to prison. She asks, what are you hiding?
Cagdas answers, Cansu. She’s the woman I love. She told me she was coming to Istanbul with her family. I thought it was vacation. It was fine. We were secretly seeing each other. He tells Ceylin there was something that happened in the past between their families. Later, Cansu called and said she’d been brought here to be engaged to someone.
Cagdas continues, I came to rescue her so she wouldn’t kill herself. My family doesn’t even know I’m here. I’ve been here a week. I rented the car. I knew the general area but not the address. I talked to Cansu when I arrived, but they heard her and took her phone. Yesterday, she texted me from a different number: “I’m here, come save me.” So I went. I didn’t have the apartment number. While I looked, I heard 3 gunshots. I got scared so I ran back to the hotel. The police showed up this morning. The gun isn’t mine.
Ceylin asks, so you planned to kidnap the girl, but you didn’t have a gun? No, he replies, I thought she’d come out and leave with me. Ceylin says that’s good. He can say this. Cagdas says he can’t. It’s for Cansu’s sake. They’d kill us! [those crazy people from Antep!] But you’ll be blamed, Ceylin tells him.
Cagdas says, so be it. I can’t reveal the truth. Ceylin advises to say he came to Istanbul to start anew. You rented a car but didn’t realize it was stolen and you are shocked by what happened. Ceylin asks if Cansu called his phone. No, she called the hotel, he says, I turned off my phone because my family kept calling. Ceylin tells him to let her do the talking during the interrogation.
We get a hint of differences between ilgaz and Neva. She’s booked a vacation at a popular resort. He’d rather go somewhere quiet, far from the crowds. He gives in to her. She closes the call with an “I love you” he says, “see you”. Note his phone says “Neva”, not “my love”, or “my dear”.
Ceylin comes to Ilgaz as the lawyer for Cagdas. She says he gave a statement yesterday denying involvement. You prolonged his detention. Ilgaz asks her how long she’s been a lawyer. One year? Two? Enough time to win several cases, she replies. She’s in a hurry to examine the documents. He tells her the system is slow sometimes. Make your request online and if I approve it, you can read it online. Have a good day.
Ceylin says that’s why she came to the office. Please let me see them. He asks her to leave. When will you ask him to testify, she asks. He won’t give her any information. Ceylin snarks, thanks for being a most gracious gentleman.
Ceylin sees Pars in the hallway. They know each other. He can tell something is up. She complains about Ilgaz. She wishes Pars was assigned to the case. He didn’t let me read the file. He acts like only his time is valuable. Pars says that sounds like Ilgaz, but he is a very good DA. Not as good as you, Ceylin replies. Pars says, if there’s anything he can do, let him know.
Ilgaz comes out of his office and Ceylin takes off. Ilgaz asks Pars, who is she? I told you about her, he replies, she’s the fearless lawyer who gave chocolate to a client who was allergic. He had to be taken to the hospital. Ilgaz notes that’s a crime. She denied knowing he was allergic. Be careful, Pars warns. Ilgaz tells him be careful at the soccer game later.
Ceylin joins her sister and niece on a shopping trip. Aylin is rude to a salesperson. Parla says her parents had a fight. Her dad came home late. Ceylin gets a text that Ilgaz is questioning Cagdas. She has to run.
Ilgaz asks Cagdas, why did you kill Cihan? Ceylin objects. Let him tell you what happened. My client didn’t kill anyone. Like we told the police, the rental car was stolen. Cagdas nods in agreement. Ilgaz asks why Cagdas didn’t say this earlier. He wasn’t sure, Ceylin replies. Cagdas says he left the car in front of the hotel, he told the police. I parked and went up to sleep. The police came in the morning.
Ilgaz asks about the gun. Cagdas knows nothing. Ceylin pipes up, the car was obviously stolen and used in a crime. Ilgaz asks, why did you murder him? Ceylin objects again, he didn’t have a motive. Why would he kill him? Ilgaz has had enough. He wants Cagdas brought back to the station while the investigation continues.
Cagdas is taken and Ceylin asks about the file. She wants to see it. He puts her off. What’s your problem, she asks. A young man was murdered, he replies, I won’t let some glamorous lawyer have our only suspect released.
Ceylin marches into Ozge’s office, telling her Ilgaz gave her permission to see the file. She balks. Ilgaz didn’t tell her. Ceylin tries to bully Ozge, then says, go ask him yourself. Ozge makes the mistake of leaving Ceylin alone in the office. Ceylin finds the file and takes pictures. Ilgaz is pissed when he finds out. Ozge asks if he will report her. Ilgaz thinks it’s no use, there were no witnesses and she will deny it. He adds, she’s too chatty, I can’t stand her.
Metin arrives at the courthouse and Ceylin passes him by. He stares. I guess it’s because he knows she’s Zafer’s daughter. Metin meets Ilgaz and notes he looks angry. It’s because of a lawyer he says, and I’ll make her regret it.
Metin confirms the bullet in Cihan’s body is a match for the gun in the car. There were no fingerprints. We investigated whether the car was at the suspect’s hotel. Is there footage, Ilgaz asks, he claims the car was stolen. In the Turkish, Metin says the car’s system shows it drove from the hotel to the address of the girl. The video from the hotel was inconclusive. But the receptionist gave a statement and it seems the car left when Cagdas left.
Metin thinks Cagdas is lying. Even if he left the hotel without the car, he would have realized it wasn’t there anymore. Ilgaz agrees and says he will ask for pretrial detention.
Ceylin lunches with Lacin. They have been communicating with Engin who’s away in Santorini (Greek island). They lose the connection. They both say they miss him.
Yekta shows up and spoils their good mood. He starts in, my son’s two favorite women. You probably miss Engin. He tells Ceylin, must be tough without him. Do something or you won’t be able to afford eating here. She snaps back, Engin left you, not me. We are still working together. He’s just taking a break. Yekta says he found another assistant. It’s Cuneyt.
Ceylin can’t believe Yekta hired Cuneyt. Lacin says Yekta will never let her be because she rejected his offer. He will never leave you alone. Ceylin shrugs it off, what will he do? Will he be a perpetual thorn in my side? [more like a harpoon.]
She goes over to Yekta and Cuneyt’s table. Yekta asks her if she got bored with Lacin. Nope. We want to congratulate you on your routine. She leans in on Cuneyt. I see you decided to dance with the Devil. When you do, you know he will always be the one who’s leading. I know because I take dance classes.
We see the soccer match. Ilgaz has some good moves. I think he dumped Pars…lol. Metin is the keeper for his team (Ilgaz, Eren and Cinar are teammates), he makes a save on Pars. The score is tied at 2. Metin sends the ball and after a nice passing sequence, Eren pokes the ball past the keeper.
There was more soccer in the Turkish version. Pars takes a corner and teammate Ridvan fixes his hair and jumps out of the way! Pars lets him have it. Pars steals a pass and scores. Ilgaz gets a free kick and Cinar scores off of it. Sorry, I couldn’t resist giving you the full match. And sorry to say, these guys looked better than the USWNT. Anyway…
Ceylin coaches Cagdas in the hall before the hearing. Remember, you went to dinner and didn’t notice the car. She goes over details. What street? What restaurant? You had two plates of spicy scallops.
Ilgaz and the victim’s family approach. The father confronts Cagdas. Why did you kill my son? Ceylin says nothing has been proven. Ilgaz tries to calm him. The man shouts, murderer! He’s gone because of you! A cop leads him away.
The hearing begins and Ilgaz makes his case for detention. Ceylin argues her client has no priors. The judge tells her to wait her turn. Ilgaz continues, Cagdas Muhter does not live in Istanbul. He said he was here a week looking for work. We haven’t found jobs to which he applied. He’s probably planning to escape to his home town. Ceylin says Antep is in Turkey. What’s wrong with him going there?
Ilgaz says Cagdas lied in his statement. We discovered the car left before the time of the murder. Enough time to arrive at the scene of the crime. Ceylin gives the restaurant defense. Ilgaz counters with footage that shows Cagdas in a car headed towards Umraniye. Ceylin says she did not see that evidence--the prosecution kept it from us, to his benefit. Ilgaz tells her to file a complaint.
Ceylin says there’s no connection between her client and the victim. He’s only been in Istanbul for a week. They don’t follow each other on social media. They don’t have mutual friends. Ilgaz says she should have shared that info. It’s too late now to request a review. He adds, it’s maybe due to her lack of experience.
Ceylin refutes this. We requested a review of the evidence, but if the DA insists they have met, I ask that he review the GPS location reports. The judge agrees to review. Ceylin asks, why would Cagdas murder a young man he didn’t know? Ilgaz refers back to the the footage. There are efforts to lie and mislead the court. He blames Ceylin.
They cut an big argument Ilcey had after the hearing. Truth vs. lies. Why would Cagdas lie if he didn’t kill Cihan? Ceylin says, secrets are not always out of shame, sometimes they are to protect the one you love.
We are back in present time. They cut Ceylin calling the police from the abandoned building to turn Cinar in. Ilgaz calls out to her. She puts her hand out and leaves the building. Yekta and Cuneyt watch from a distance on a hill. He’s called photographers to come and take pictures of the scene! Poor thing, he says, how many stabs in the back she got, I can’t count anymore.
More cuts: Metin calls Merdan, the jig is up. Ilgaz rips into Cinar—you had three months to tell! I asked, do you have a problem?! You said everything was fine! He throws Cinar on the ground. He slaps at him and shouts. You no longer have a brother who will listen! Poor Cinar begs.
Still more cuts: Pars goes to Ceylin. I don’t know what information they gave you. Let me explain. Nothing is as it seems. You know that golden rule. You are the smartest woman I know, we didn’t cooperate or intend to kidnap anyone. A lot of things happened. Ilgaz wanted Cinar and Metin to turn themselves in. No one was going to hide anything from you.
Ceylin asks Pars, did Cinar really kill my father? It seems so, he replies. She asks why. Pars says we don’t know that yet. Metin hid this, right? Yes. She asks how long has he known. We only found out yesterday, Pars answers. She wants to know why no one told her.
Pars says they were going to turn themselves in. Who are they, Ceylin asks, a murderer and an unscrupulous person? Why should they surrender themselves? She’s particularly upset with Ilgaz. Pars defends him. Ilgaz was destroyed, too.
Yekta is enjoying the show. Look at how the relationship between the lawyer and the DA ended.
There a lot more cut. Metin shows up at the scene and gets the Ceylin treatment. I don’t have time or energy to include any more.
Pars and Eren interrogate Metin. Ilcey watch behind the glass. Metin says, I put Zafer in the trunk. Cinar was bleeding from his wound and I got a call from home. I went to the hospital before burying Zafer. We see a flashback of Cinar being brought to the hospital in Metin’s car.
Ceylin says, we were in that car, you drove it. She slumps to her knees. I gave his murderer my shoulder to lean on. I helped my father’s murderer. She starts banging a chair against a table. I was next to my father’s body. Your father didn’t tell me. How could he do this to me? She has a typical outburst. I’ll curse him for the rest of my life!
Metin continues, later I saw that Zafer was gone. Another flashback. Metin says he watched the hospital security video. Flashback. Somebody got him out of the trunk. Pars asks, you didn’t bury him in the forest? No, Metin replies, I lost his body. I never found it. I found out the same day you did. Pars wonders why someone would take him. Metin has no idea.
Ilgaz figures that Engin knew where the body was. He asks Ceylin, how did you find out we were there today? Who told you? She doesn’t answer. She leaves.
Pars asks Metin, you found Zafer and implicated Yavuz, right? You broke into his house and stole the hard drive. [he also conked Eren.] After, you sent someone else to incriminate him. You also set a plan for Cinar to be taken abroad. You claim you did all of this without anyone’s help. Metin says he worked alone.
Eren says that Merdan told them where Cinar was. Metin says all he (Merdan) did was take him there. He didn’t know what happened. Pars says, don’t tell me you’re trying to protect your father. [don’t tell me either.] Metin says he’s not. Pars asks, who kidnapped Cinar and took him to the scene of the crime? Metin doesn’t know.
Ceylin asks Eren to see Cinar. I guess that didn’t work so she asks Pars. He says she can’t, it wouldn’t be… Ceylin walks away. Next, she goes to Ilgaz. I want to see Cinar, I have that right.
Cinar is in a cop’s office and Ilgaz enters. He asks the cop to leave. Ceylin enters. She begins, my father got mad at me when I became your lawyer. He threw me out of the house because I believed in you and defended you. I wish I never had gotten you out of that hole. You were there for a reason; a killer lives inside you. You’re going to stand trial for killing my father, for covering the truth, for obstruction, and trying to escape. I’ll make sure you never see the light of day. Just like my father, who you killed. [the same father who tried to kill Cinar!]
Ceylin continues to spew and Cinar sits there and takes it in silence. When Ceylin grabs her things and runs out, Cinar FINALLY shouts out—I didn’t mean to do it! That’s why I ran. He was going to kill me! She’s gone and he’s still shouting—your father was going to kill me! Cinar tells Ilgaz he was just defending himself. I guess that’s too little to late… Ilgaz walks out.
Pars speaks with Eren. What about the second bullet? If someone took the body, then someone else saw the crime. Somebody’s hiding something. Something’s weird. Pars wonders how Ceylin got to the scene. Is she psychic? Who told her? Pars sees Ceylin walk by. He says, let’s ask her. Eren is afraid she might spit in his face.
A very guilty Eren catches up with Ceylin. He says to think about it… she turns to go and he grabs her. He understands and says Pars would like to speak with her.
Pars is understanding, too, but he has a few questions. Who told you to go to the place where we found Cinar? I need to know. Ilgaz comes into the room. Ceylin says she will give her statement tomorrow. It’ll go in the file so that it won’t be changed later. She leaves.
Eren shares that there might be somebody else. Ilgaz agrees. Engin knew Zafer was killed. That’s what he used to threaten Cinar. If Engin knew, so did Yekta. Ceylin’s statement is important.
Cuneyt asks Yekta for an update. Yekta says he hasn’t been called in for a statement yet. He thinks it’s strange that Ceylin hasn’t told them he knew. Maybe she crumbled, he says, and couldn’t even talk. We owe her compassion. Let’s see what tomorrow brings.
Ceylin flags a taxi instead of taking a ride from Ilgaz.
Metin and Cinar are in holding. Cinar apologizes to his dad. We’re both in the same place, Metin replies, words aren’t enough here.
Ceylin arrives at her mother’s house. Ilgaz has followed her. Gul is inside preparing Ceylin’s dowry. She tells her to look at things, some were brought back by her father from his trips. She says Ceylin can have Inci’s share. Gul goes on while Ceylin looks glum.
Aylin and Parla join in the prep. Aylin says if there’s anything Ceylin doesn’t want, it could be used for Parla’s dowry. The kid is horrified. Ceylin looks at a bowl. Dad bought this? Yes, Gul replies, I’d ask him whenever he went on a trip.
Ceylin calls everyone back in the room for a talk. She readies herself. Yavuz didn’t kill my father. Then who did, Gul asks. Remember when he said goodbye, Ceylin says, he pawned gold and bought a gun. The family is surprised. Ceylin continues, remember how angry he was when Cinar was released? He wanted to kill him because he thought he killed Inci. He kidnapped him and they had a fight. That’s when he was shot. Parla asks, who shot grandpa? Cinar shot him. Gul says, he’s just a kid, what does he know about killing?
Parla immediately defends Cinar. He’s a good person. He’s being falsely accused. It’s a lie. She leaves the room. Gul needs to sit. Aylin notes it’s been three months. They buried him. Ceylin says that Metin helped. No one can believe this is happening. Ceylin says she’s brokenhearted.
Aylin asks if Ilgaz knew, if he kept it from Ceylin. Gul is angry at Metin. She says, he told me don’t worry, I will find your husband. I’ll see to it personally. She thinks Metin wrote the letter. They played a game with us! They made a mockery of Zafer’s death. She says God will pay them back. Gul calls Ilgaz a disgrace. A lying piece of trash. I want to spit in his face!
Aylin says this isn’t Ilgaz’s fault. He only found out. Gul doesn’t care—he should have told me! She grabs Ceylin, never look those killers in the eye again! Is that clear? They are evil murderers! They are garbage!
Ceylin retreats to her room and has a panic attack. She tries to calm herself. She opens her window for air and there is Ilgaz standing in the street below. When she sees him, she closes the window and draws the curtains.
Defne calls Ilgaz. Don’t any of you love me anymore? Why did everyone leave, she cries.
Then the scene shifts to Ilgaz holding Defne in her bed. She can’t sleep, she won’t let go of him. She’s worried he will be gone when she wakes up.
Ilgaz arrives at the courthouse and sees Ceylin sitting outside on a bench. He sits next to her. She doesn’t look at him. He says, when you want, be that in a month, or year, or later, I’d like you to hear me out because I have to tell you something. I’m sorry for every wound I’ve inflicted and all the pain I caused you. Even if we’re not talking, I wanted you to know. She stares at him, drinks some water and goes.
Gul leaves the house early in the morning. She doesn’t want to tell Aylin where she’s going. [it can’t be good.] Osman walks up to the house. He’s read the news on his phone. He says if I didn’t read this I wouldn’t have found out. Don’t you get that we’re divorced, she replies, I have no obligation to tell you anything.
Ceylin goes to Pars’ office. He barks at the interruption so early in the morning but when he sees it’s Ceylin… She sits, she turns down an offer for tea. He says I hope this formality is the worst punishment we get. Please don’t give us a life sentence. He calls Ridvan in to take a statement.
Derya sees Ilgaz in the hall. She tells him there is an emergency. Judge Kemal was drugged. A high dose of epinephrine in his blood. Signs point to murder. Ilgaz asks about suspects. Derya says he left a döner shop and was fine until he got to the middle of the street and started feeling ill. The ambulance didn’t get there in time. That’s all they have. Ilgaz says to review all his recent cases. Could be payback. They will have to investigate his private life, too, for enemies. Ilgaz wants the case sealed.
Ceylin tells Pars nobody took her there. Nobody told her anything. He asks, how did you know we were there? I just followed Ilgaz, she replies. He seemed to have a problem and I felt he was hiding something from me. Nobody took me there. [why is she protecting Yekta?]
Yekta tells Cuneyt he’s sure his name will come up now that Ceylin is giving her statement. Cuneyt asks, what will you do? I won’t wait to be subpoenaed, Yekta replies, I have nothing to hide. I’m going in with my head held high and confess I helped Ceylin get justice.
Yekta has hired Ozgur as a driver. He looks nice in a suit but he doesn’t look happy.
Ilcey see each other in the hallway. No words.
Ilgaz goes to Pars. Pars tells him, Ceylin was suspicious and followed you. She’s smart. Ilgaz figures Pars will ask for pretrial detention. He has no other choice. Ilgaz asks the same for his father. Pars thinks it’s not necessary. Ilgaz disagrees.
The AG walks in on the DAs. We don’t hear that convo. The AG leaves and walks right past Ceylin who’s still sitting on the bench in the hallway.
Ilgaz leaves Pars’ office. Ceylin sees him and puts in her earphones. He stops in front of her for a few seconds, then continues walking.
Cinar and Metin are brought to the courthouse.
And we are out.
Dondi, you get the Bronze Star for recapping this one! Please, don't ever apologize for timing of the recaps. We're grateful whenever you find time.
After Ceylin got into Yekta's car, I came "this close" to turning off my television. I know you've been frustrated and/or disgusted with Ceylin a number of times. This was the grand prize. IIRC she spoke with Ilgaz over the phone. He told her he'd come to "the house" (not sure if new place she rented or where Gul lives) to tell her what's going on. Does she wait for him? Of course not. She goes to his office to huff and puff because he's been out of touch recently. Laughed at "his mustache could be a bit longer so he could twirl it".
Derya is also turning into another annoying character. I don't know why she's trying to pry things out of Neva. The only case she has that I remember is the killing of the young woman by the son of the evil crime family.
How did Yekta know where Cinar "shot" Zafer so as to have him bound up there?
Ceylin just passively lets Yekta go on and on saying he's her "only friend" and doesn't bite his head off?
Looks like, in the flashback, Ceylin's client was Romeo to his girlfriend's Juliet. Another hint about a forced marriage. Yikes!
This whole flashback with Ilgaz was weird. They hadn't shown him up to then as being a misogynist. He's just rude in those scenes. And he's like the stereotypical prosecutor; Why did you kill...(whoever the young man was)? Trying to rattle him.
Wow! Yekta thorn in her side more like a harpoon! Good one! I got the impression that Yekta's animus toward Ceylin the whole time has been because she refused to join his firm.
You made me laugh with the male cast looking better than USWNT. Those were some very disappointing games.
Ceylin just drives us crazy all the time. Why in hell doesn't she tell anyone that Yekta showed her where Cinar was being held? Since when does she keep him out of hot water?
Looking at all those great shots of the Bosphurus have made me think about going to Turkey. But now I'm concerned that everyone there is bipolar. Gul turned on a dime and now hates Ilgaz.
Yes, Cinar FINALLY spoke up, but I don't think Ceylin heard. But then, in the recap, you said that she told Gul about Zafer having kidnapped him. Why can't she figure out it was to kill him for revenge and Cinar would have died if he hadn't struggled?
Bah! I'm tired of these people.
Dondi, I am not watching this show, but I am amazed at your recaps.
I thought that the quote by Rilke reflected the Turkish anguish and angst. I am adding it to my quote collection journal. Thank you.
I hope that we can enjoy a dizi together soon.
I hate to do this to you patio friends, but there’s no way I can recap Tuesday’s show by tonight. I still need to watch it. Tuesday recaps are tough for me and 2 hour eps don’t help. Hoping we can get some highlights together to start our discussion. I can add comments after I catch up.
Thanks, novelera.
Ceylin is becoming as irritating to me as Miran was in Hercai. The difference is I like Pinar Deniz. I’ve seen her in other projects and think she’s a good actor. Not so much Akın A. But I digress. I keep wondering if Ceylin will meet a bad end. And I don’t want Ilgaz groveling at her feet for forgiveness. She should be kissing HIS feet.
With Derya, I get the feeling that it’s not so much about the cases, but about Pars. If my dizi senses are working properly, they are destined for each other.
Yekta knows everything through that creep Serdar, who followed Zafer and Cinar on Engin’s orders.
Romeo and Juliet, yes. As soon as I heard Antep, I knew where the story was going. They are very much like the people in Mardin (Hercai).
ITA, Yekta didn’t like Ceylin’s rejection and she took Engin away, too.
Ceylin and Pars were pretty friendly in that flashback. IIRC he hinted at the beginning he was interested in her.
I can’t figure out Ceylin’s MO on keeping quiet about Yekta. Is she planning something?
“… think about going to Turkey. But now I'm concerned that everyone there is bipolar.” Lol. I hear Turkey is a great destination from people who have gone, and the Turks are hospitable. You should go.
There were lots of cuts in the last ep or two. I was also confused when Ceylin told Gul about the kidnapping. It’s possible I missed a cut or there was a bad translation I missed. Lucio has access to an uncut version and usually finds some of the missing pieces.
So good to hear from you! Thanks for your kind words. I miss dizi watching with you. Sorry you couldn’t join us for Secretos, I think you would have enjoyed it. Unfortuately, the timing was off.
Lots of wonderful quotes at the start of each Turkish ep. Check in every once in a while.
I’m waiting for the new dizi season to start in September. Engin and Demet will be back with the second season of “Adım Farah”.
All recaps and discussions are so helpful. Thank you! It is really helpful to know what has been cut. I also wonder if Ceylin has a plan with regard to Yekta. She is usually very quick to figure things out. So hoping she knows what she is doing. Really liked the soccer game that showed how close those guys were. I’d like to think that team will work together to solve what comes. So much continues to be revealed. Probably lots of dark secrets still to come. I enjoy Ceylin and Ilgaz, and Eren is the loyal friend we all need in our lives!
Babachita
Dondi, I saved last night's episode on my DVR. I'll put up a recap in a while. I feel guilty for not volunteering regularly. My method takes a long time. I don't have a laptop, and use a work station computer in my spare room/office. The TV is in the Living Room. What I usually do is watch the episode all the way through. Then I go back to the beginning, use the back sides of discarded printouts, and write my recap using a fountain pen. A fountain pen allows smooth writing and less hand fatigue. Then I take the pages to my computer and type the thing up.
Just about when I was on the fence about taking a night to recap they went back to two-hours. I just couldn't face it. Plus it seems like you get so much more out of the episodes.
Thank you, dondi356.
The flashback was a welcome distraction from all the doom and gloom. Even the soccer match.
There were no cuts that would make us think that the Erguvan family didn't understand what happened. Everybody understands, but for some reason they continue to treat Cinar like a murderer. Just repeating what we all said, Zafer committed a crime against Cinar - kidnapping, and made his intention to commit a bigger crime - murder - clear. The gun went off when Cinar was trying to save his life. The silence and coverup was obstruction of justice, but that's the only part Cinar is guilty of. So, Erguvan should be saying; "We are sorry Zafer treated you unfairly, but you should not have hidden his death from us."
Hey, Caraymates! I just started watching Secretos de Sangre last week, but thanks to the super recaps and comments, I've got a lay of the land.
Gracias, Dondi. I'm amazed by your detail for two such intricate episodes. Much appreciated.
Color me surprised by llgaz's rudeness to Ceylin when she first starting working there. Wondering if this was some standard hazing for a newbie, or if he really was a misogynist back then.
At last Cinar spoke up that it was self-defense. Wondering why Ilgaz does not get this.
Thanks so much, novelera. I don’t want you to feel guilty. I don’t want to pressure anyone to recap or comment. We all contribute what we can, as a labor of love for the community. And wow, it’s a real labor for you! Very much appreciated. Right now, I’m dependent on watching the eps live, if I can, on my crappy laptop and reviewing very early next morning after they are posted. I don’t know how long I can keep up with the 2 hours per night.
Good to hear from you, Babachita. The soccer game was a highlight of the episode. It did have a meaning.
Thanks for the back up, Lucio. I’m co-signing your post. Maybe the characters will come to those conclusions in the near future.
Glad you’ve joined the patio, Niecie! Look forward to your insightful comments. I don’t take Ilgaz for a misogynist. He’s driven and definitely a stickler for law and order. He doesn’t suffer fools, or defense lawyers, gladly. Certainly, he has no patience Ceylin’s tactics. All those DAs seem to have similar qualities.
#54, Parte 1 de 4
We again see Ceylin ignore Ilgaz in the hallway of the courthouse. We see Cinar and Metin escorted through this hallway by the police. Only Cinar is handcuffed.
Pars has come to Derya’s office. He’s angry about her having gone to the AG about what he might have been doing with Eren regarding Cinar’s case.
Yekta sees Ceylin sitting in the hallway. Then he runs after Pars asking if he wants to see him (about Cinar’s kidnapping). Pars tells him Yekta is the last person he wants to see today. Yekta chuckles. [I’m afraid I’ll soon start hearing that awful chuckle in my nightmares.] Yekta sits down beside her to confirm that she didn’t tell anyone about his bringing her to the warehouse. She says nothing to him, staring straight ahead. He suggests they have dinner soon. [Gag!]
Ilgaz looks like a wounded deer. Neva says some consoling words to him. Derya approaches and shows him some photos and files of 5 persons as possible suspects in the poisoning of Kemal, a judge. I’ll skip the reasons for each one, but one is Cadgas, the young “Romeo” in the flashback shown last episode. [Something seems odd to me. I remember Ceylin being involved. Derya says Kemal just released him for lack of evidence, but the flashback was over a year ago. He languished in prison all that time?]
Ceylin sits in on a hearing with Pars. The defendants are Metin and Cinar. Neither says a word. The judge sends Cinar to protective custody before a trial, but Metin is released on OR. Ceylin looks furious.
Ceylin tells Ilgaz to come to their house.
There’s a cute scene with Derya and Pars. She’s brought his lunch (sopa de lentejas) (lentil soup). Both eat, and Pars says he likes it, but his eyes say he likes her even more.
Ceylin gives Ilgaz a set of house keys to the new place. He asks her if she’s sure. She says that she’s actually not sure. She’ll ask him a question that will mark their destiny forever. “Make a decision. Your family or me.” [What about poor Defne?] He looks stunned and we don’t hear his answer.
6 months later… Ceylin parks in front and rushes into her office. She takes a bloody knife out of a handkerchief. There’s some blood on her blouse as well. She looks like she’s in shock. Eren bangs on the door, threatening to break it down.
Back to the present time at the Ilcey apartment. She says he can’t be on the side of both the guilty party and of the victim. She says she’s still angry with him. He lied to her. While she was trying to kill all her bad qualities, to change for him, he came and lied to her. [More dizi exaggeration. He just didn’t tell her about Metin’s coverup when she was showing him the apartment.]
Ceylin goes on for a long time about not being able to hate him. He needs him in her life, but he has to do it her way. He can’t testify in the case or do anything for the “other side”. [Telemundo still withholds his decision so as to give us a long commercial break.]
#54, Parte 2 de 4
Pars describes for Derya how difficult this whole thing has been for Ilgaz, Ceylin, and both their families. She apologizes for having gone to the AG about thinking they were hiding something.
Right after showing his warm side, Pars barks at Eren when he calls. Eren tells him Cinar told him that he fired once. But there was another bullet hole in Zafer’s body. Eren is also suspicious of Ceylin saying she followed Ilgaz to arrive at the warehouse where Cinar was found.
Cuneyt brings Serdar to an elegant suite in a hotel. [Please, Neva, kick him to the curb!] Serdar has had a buzz cut. He’s delighted with the new digs. He’s told not to leave the hotel and is given a new phone and a fake name. He’s to wait for instructions from Yekta.
Ilgaz tells Ceylin about how he feels SO deceived (by his father and Cinar) and the sorrow he feels for her. Everything he thought was true in his whole life is gone. He now has a black hole inside him. How could they have done this? He tells her about Metin’s suicide attempt. She reminds him of his promise to stay clear to assure her he’s on her side. Looks like he’s accepted the deal.
Parla finds the divorce case of her parents online, while Aylin looks on. They discover that Osman has hired Yekta.
Yekta sinks even lower. [My mother would have said he’d have to reach up to scratch a worm’s belly.] He has come to the prison to offer his legal services to Cinar. We get plenty of smug smirks and chuckles. He tells Cinar that his family abandoned him, and no one accepts his reason of self-defense. Cinar is amazed he knows that. Yekta goes on to say he also knows about the drug dealing and Cinar’s involvement in the fake ID scheme. Yekta Tilman knows everything, he says. He offers to be his defense lawyer and get him out of prison.
Cinar, for the first time ever, demonstrates he possesses a human spine. He tells Yekta he’s un maldito and leaves the room.
On their way to the car, Ilgaz asks Ceylin if she really followed him (to the warehouse). She gets huffy and says he promised not to ask her about the case.
Goksu brings a report and some photos to Eren. She says that Zafer’s body had two bullets that struck him, but three holes in his clothing. Eren castigates himself for not having seen this before on the report. She says there were two wounds in the thorax and one in the armpit.
Derya calls Ilgaz to tell him another judge has been harmed.
Gul sells her wedding ring. Metin comes home and overhears Defne talking to some violets in the front garden. She says no one loves her. She runs from him when he speaks to her.
Ceylin shows up at Osman’s place of business and makes a loud scene about his having hired Yekta. She yells about how Yekta tried to frame him for killing Inci. She also throws in that Parla would be 18 by the time the custody issue was resolved. She’s 16 now. Osman sort of agrees the family will try to work out the custody issue.
#54, Parte 3 de 4
Ceylin gets a call from a young woman urgently wanting her to come to Ceylin’s office, where she's already come.
Gul comes home and orders Aylin to come with her…to spit in their faces…bury them. She goes on and on about how the Kayas buried Zafer. [No, they didn’t do that.] And then they made a fool of her by pretending to join their families. [I’m not writing this whole soliloquy down…you can get the idea.]
The AG surprises me by professing his support for Ilgaz, despite his family’s involvement. [Guess the reporters aren’t out in front yet clamoring for scoops.]
Ilgaz and Derya again discuss the judges who’ve been harmed. She suspects that only Cadgas is a likely suspect. The others seem to have mitigating circumstances.
Ceylin goes to her office to meet with the young woman who called her. She says that she met Cansu about a year and a half ago when she came to Istanbul to get married. The boy Cansu loved before marrying got out of prison. [I think she said that the two ran away together.] Cansu’s husband is traveling out of the country. If he finds out, he’ll kill the two of them. He’s a cruel guy. What she wants is for Ceylin to convince Cansu to return to her husband and thus save her life. She then tells Ceylin that the young man is the one she defended before, Cadgas. She gives Ceylin Cansu’s phone number.
Eren explains his theory to Pars while Pars does the usual: gets grumpy and complains about never getting any peace. Eren gives him a visual of his theory. He pulls a gun on him! Then he takes out the magazine with bullets. He asks Pars to struggle for the gun as if he were someone who is not trained in firearms. The gun ends up pointed toward Pars’ armpit. Eren yells “bang” right in Pars ear. Pretty funny. I’m loving crabby Pars in this scene. Pars turns to Eren: “if there’s a third person there, who is it, Sherlock?”
Cuneyt comes to tell Yekta he got Serdar out and stashed him in a hotel. Yekta chortles and tells him that, sooner or later, Ilgaz or Ceylin will realize that there was a witness (to Zafer kidnapping Cinar). Yekta wants the guy on his side.
Ilgaz calls Ceylin to come to his office so they can discuss the case involved when they first met.
Pars tells Ridvan to locate Serdar. Ridvan: “Anything else?” Pars asks him for a future clear and pure. Does that exist? Ridvan looks confused and Eren has to cover his jaw to hide almost laughing out loud.
Eren and Pars come to Ilgaz’s office to tell him the new theory about who killed Zafer, but he keeps his promise to Ceylin and refuses to hear them out. Ceylin bursts in and assumes Ilgaz has broken his promise. It takes Pars to get her to believe he didn’t do so.
Pars and Eren decide to not yet tell Ceylin about the third bullet. Eren says she might mow them down with una ametralladora (machine gun).
#54, Parte 4 de 4
Ilcey discuss the case where she defended the young man a year ago and how different their lives were then. She agrees that the boy having gotten out of prison just then could look like he was poisoning for revenge. But why would he choose Kemal, who was the one who let him out of prison? Ilgaz agrees.
Ceylin writes something in the hallway of the courthouse.
Defne refuses to open her bedroom door and speak to her father.
What Ceylin wrote was a request that Metin be put in protective custody like Cinar. Pars tells her he’s sure there was a third person in the warehouse. [Thought they’d agreed to keep mum.] He says that Engin knew about this because he sent a coded message [in the video?]. Pars says that the person who kidnapped Cinar from the container at the port also sent her to the warehouse. That person already knew that Cinar was there. He’s certain that that person was Yekta Tillman.
He asks her why she’s protecting Yekta. She leans forward and asks him not to put any of this in the record. She thinks that, if he realizes they’re onto him, he’ll come up with convincing lies and laugh in their faces. They must find his weak point. She believes the third person they’re looking for is Serdar. Why else would Yekta help him? He probably saw Cinar and her father in the park, got her father’s body, and buried him.
Gul and Aylin show up at Metin Kaya’s house. Merdan answers the door. Gul pushes past him. Met sits on the couch looking like death warmed over while Gul rants about how evil he is. She says that Cinar killed her husband, shocking Makbule. Merdan begs her not to say these things here because of Defne. [Too late. She’s listening, sobbing.] Gul throws the money she got from the ring she sold at Merdan, saying she’s paying her debt. [I assume this is for the post funeral food he bought.] She says his money is dirty (little does she know).
Pars shows Ilgaz the document Ceylin wrote about Metin needing to be locked up. He tells him that he hopes Ilgaz can calm the rage in Ceylan. Ridvan comes to say that Serdar was freed.
Ceylin shows up in a taxi and questions first her mother and then Aylin about why they went to the Kaya house.
Ilgaz comes to his father’s house and hears Metin and Makbule shouting behind a door. He finds a sobbing Defne on the stairs. She wants to go live with Ceylin.
Idiot Serdar is doing selfies drinking umbrella drinks and has posted them on social media. Parla is with the other “money launderers” and is very upset about Cinar having killed her grandfather. Maeve sticks up for him, saying he’s not the killer type. Tugce sees Serdar’s post, and they talk about finding him.
Eren has brought Pars to the ill-fated warehouse. Just like the bullet was found behind the birdhouse, a bullet has been found in the walls. Eren demonstrates that that bullet went through Zafer’s armpit and into the wall.
Excellent recap, novelera. Thanks so much.
I’m officially hating Ceylin. Wrong choice Ilgaz, this chick is crazy. Run like hell. Choose your family of murderers instead.
I can’t take much more of Ceylin’s family. Mostly Gul. What, no shroud to throw at Metin? Ok, so she threw money at Merdan.
What’s with this time jump? What’s with the bloody knife and blood on Ceylin’s blouse? Did she kill someone or is she taking the fall for someone? Hmmm...
Yep, I thought Ceylin had a reason for “protecting” Yekta. He’s going to wonder why she’s doing it and figure it out quickly. Yekta Tilmen never loses…bwahaha. Anyway, it’s way too early for him to lose.
Serdar is too stupid to live. Prime for a Darwin Award.
“Pars asks him for a future clear and pure. Does that exist?” – Pars has totally won me over.
I plan to recap Weds show. I don’t know how soon I can post, but we are preempted tonight so that buys me time. As always, thanks for your patience.
And thanks again, novelera!
Gracias, Novelera. All the deets I needed.
You can see in Cinar's face that he's way in over his head, but not a monster. I can see Ilgaz being stone cold with his dad, but not with Cinar.
Eren was adorable demonstrating the three shots, and Pars certainly showed he can be a good sport!
"Both eat, and Pars says he likes it, but his eyes say he likes her even more."
Cute scene. Derya goes domestic and squeezes lemon just so on Pars' soup. I like her, but I'm wondering if she's genuine with Pars.
Glad to find out Ceylin is working a plan and not taking Yekta on his face.
Poor Ilgaz. His family or Ceylin. But in a way, she's showing how much she loves him and needs him by demanding this (impossible) choice.
Thank you, novelera.
Ceylin is acting the same as Zafer. Cinar is the murderer and that's it, he needs to pay. Not listening to any evidence. All that's left is for her to get a gun and try to kill Cinar. Is that what the flashforward is about? Kidding.
Poor Defne. She wanted to go to Ceylin and apologize for Cinar and her father. Maybe if she did it would have softened Ceylin. It worked the last time.
Dondi, I loved your takedown of Ceylin. She is driving me nuts also. I'm trying to decide which is better: the saccharine sweet telenovela heroines or some of the darker females I've seen recently in dizis. Maybe something in between?
ITA about Gul, dondi. And, Lucio, thanks for mentioning Ceylin being like Zafer. This apple hasn't fallen far from the family tree. Vengeance is mine saith the Erguvans. These people might be listed as a case study in the DSM-5 for nutcases.
Niecie, nice to have you with us! Your point about Ceylin loving Ilgaz so much she offers him a chance to be with her rather than just cutting him out completely was well stated. Yes, the casting of Cinar was perfect. He has this scared, boyish face.
Lucio, poor Defne indeed. Assuming Ceylin literally means for Ilgaz to completely turn his back on his entire family, what about her? She's already lost Cinar, the sibling she seemed closes to. Now her father has done something awful.
