Notes from the couch . . .
IMELDA Imelda is pregnant and Fernando isn't jumping for joy when she tells him. She decides that she needs to make herself invaluable to Fernando so he doesn't divorce her. When the plan presents itself (totally described in the next section) , she is totally on board.
ROGELIO/IGNACIO/FERNANDO/REVENGE When Paula fully understands what Ignacio is complaining about, she tells Rogelio to go sleep in his office. She is exasperated with him. He tries to explain to her that he didn't know Ignacio and was just trying to protect the family with getting Carmelo to get some dirt on him so they could remove him from the executive board. The next day as he addresses the family, she does her best to understand. Martina excuses Rogelio's underhanded ways by agreeing that he was only trying to protect the family. Fernando doesn't agree but most important is that Ignacio doesn't buy it and won't accept Rogelio's apologies. Ignacio tells Fernando that he has had it with the Iturbide family and business. He doesn't want to be a part of either. He is returning the shares that Fernando gave to him and those he loaned to him. He also has some important information for him. In a couple of months a block of Iturbide shares are coming onto the market for sale. If Fernando is smart, he will buy them. He will then have more stocks than Rogelio and will be the president of the company. Ignacio tells the mystery woman about his plan and that if all goes well, the Iturbides will be begging him for his help. Imelda finds out about the stock offering from Fernando. He does not have the money to buy them. There is a time jump. Imelda gets her father to buy the shares and he signs them over to her. She announces to the family that she is a new partner in the company. She gave her shares to Fernando. Fernando announces that he is now the new president. Rogelio congratulates him and decides that he needs to talk to Ignacio. Everyone goes without him to some kind of performance/reception/fundraiser. Paula is there standing with Blanca in line. Ignacio arrives with Cecilia. He hasn't seen Rogelio. He sees Imelda and tells her quietly that today won't be Rogelio's worst day. She asks what the plan is. He tells her to wait and see. It seems like Cecilia might have overheard the conversation. In the final shot, we see Rogelio bloodied and unconscious on a street.
LUIS/ANDREA The day of the wedding has arrived. Luis is having panic attacks. Everyone is waiting for him. He is nowhere to be seen. Paula tracks him down to the family chapel and tries to tell him that everyone has cold feet but that he should close his eyes and try to imagine what his life would be like if Andrea was not a part of it the next day. That is how she decided to marry Rogelio. Luis tries it and it works. What doesn't work is when Andrea sees Luis enter Gabriel's home with Paula. Luis says "I do" with a nod from Paula but when it comes time for Andrea's turn, she answers with an "I don't." As usual, Martina makes it all about herself as Rogelio rushes to her to make sure she is okay from the shock of it all. Andrea and Luis talk about their situation the next day and she tells him that he isn't in love with her. That is why he had the panic attack. He says he wanted to try to get over it. She doesn't understand that if he didn't love her. As for Andrea, she says if they had married she would have questioned herself wondering if she could have made a better match. She is going to take over her father's office in Mexico City. he can go to LA.
ROGELIO has a dizzy spell at work. He calls his doctor who asks if he has been under a lot of stress. Rogelio admits that he has lately. The doctor thinks it is most likely due to streets but want him to come in for a checkup to make sure there is nothing more serious going on.
PAULA/EVA With the unspecified time jump, the woman are looking very pregnant.
Please feel free to add anything I left out.
Jarifa, your marvelous summary was clearly reflective of everything that occurred. Your sharp perception is ever evident.
Andrea already had her doubts but Paula being the only one able to pull Luis out of his panicked stupor proved to be too much. Was it the final straw or had Andrea already decided not to go through with the wedding, this serving as validation he would never love her as much as Paula? We will never know. At least Andrea had sense to call it off. Luis hyperventilating, using his inhaler and long hesitation before saying yes showed his heart was not in it although he seemed determined to go through with it.
Imelda is certainly hastening the Iturbides’ downfall. Does she think Fernando will not feel the repercussions? The premise of dominoes is that when one falls, the others follow.
Rogelio looks the worse for wear.
Diana
Two people saved, one person lost - Part 1/3
Joaquina stands up to Roberta, telling her she's an asesina and how could she do this to her own son? Roberta says she never considered Leo her son, she should shut up and starts choking her.
Pop quiz: what do you think Roberta said afterwards?
Option A: I'm the Patrona
Option B: I'm the Patrona
Option C: I'm the Patrona
Option D: I'm the Patrona
Correct answer: I'm the Patrona
Gael comforts Marijó about their trapped relatives. They hug, when Roberta comes and says "what's the meaning of this?"
The operation to save Emi and Leo continues. The miners manage to open a hole in the rocks. Emi and Leo now have consciousness. The miners give them food and water.
Roberta starts being b!tchy about the hug when Zaira comes and confronts her. She says they're all equal here and her husband is trying to save Emilia and Leo. Low-key fighting.
The operation continues. Everyone is happy, because they found them alive.
There are some reporters outside of the mines. Mau manages to get them to leave. Jenny comes to see Mau (uh oh), starts speaking fast and asks him if he's okay and why didn't he call her? Mau says that Emilia and someone else are buried in the mines, Jenny gets angry at him mentioning Emilia and she hopes she dies in the mine ("Ojalá que se muere en la mina") what?! Someone tells Mau they found them and he runs with the guy. Jenny starts crying. Sara asks her why she's crying, Jenny starts whining about Emilia and Mau. Kudos to the writers. They somehow managed to make Jenny even MORE annoying than Julia in the original. That's pure talent, I thought there was no person more annoying than Julia in this planet.
Emi rests her head on Leo.
Tigre says he won't stop until he gets his daughter out. The miners use explosives to get them out of there; it works of course and Emi and Leo are rescued.
Marijó tells Roberta she wants to stay here. Roberta, on the other hand, does not and says "why do you want to stay here? For the miner's brother?" Patricio (the guy who works for Roberta) gets Marijó out of the difficult position to answer. He tells Roberta that the miners have rescued the trapped. After Marijó leaves, Roberta has the nerve to say that's bad news because now everyone will know about the collapse! She says to Patricio he knows what to do (not let this get out? Kill them?)
The miners in the outside start hitting their helmets and saying "vivos!" (alive!) Emilia and Leo get out. Roberta hugs Leo (the nerve of that woman!) and says she was worried. Suuuuureeeeee. Emilia hugs Nico. She even hugs Mau(!) who says they were all worried. And not only she hugs him, she thanks him too, WHAT? She hugs Zaira and Gael. Tigre sees her hugging the last two and smiles. Leo hugs Marijó. Gael waves to her.
Orlando finds Jenny drunk. She tells him Mau broke up with her and keeps whining. Orlando is sorry but thinks it might be better this way.
Leo talks to Ignacio about Emilia; he says she very special. Ignacio makes him promise that he'll look after Tigre and Emilia when he dies. Sara hugs Leo. Seb hugs Emilia and says he'd give his life for her. There's a doctor for Leo (and I assume for Emilia as well). Joaquina hugs Leo. Roberta comes and tells Joaquina to let Leo go and she should leave, Leo should rest. Leo wants her to stay, but she leaves (if I recall correctly. I forgot to write that down).
Ignacio talks to the miners. He thanks them for not letting two people die and promises he'll make this mine the safest in the country. Uh, you'll need A LOT of work for that, my dude. And I mean A LOT. The miners all applaud and call him "Patrón" about a thousand times.
Two people saved, one person lost - Part 2/3
Seb approaches Ignacio. He says he knows his (Ignacio's) trust is lost, but he hasn't done anything wrong. He's willing to be put under investigation and says he wants an opportunity.
Emilia tells her family (Tigre, Zaira, Gael) she doesn't want to lose them. All of them go to get in her car. Tigre remembers a scene from Emilia's childhood. They hug AGAIN. She waves to Leo.
Jenny is still drunk. She tells Orlando he's the only one who understands her. We have an (almost) kiss? Jenny says he's her best friend and blah blah. Oh and she says something about not telling anyone his secret. Huh?
Tigre shows Zaira and Gael the gold he found from la Cueva del Diablo. Gael is excited, but Zaira is shocked that he would steal from Ignacio. He says it's not stealing, Ignacio and he will have a contrato about the mine. Zaira is unsure about the gold.
Nico has fallen asleep. Seb holds him. Emilia kisses her kid's forehead.
Jenny is... Wait, where is she, actually? She said she couldn't go home because her parents would freak out if she told them about Mau breaking up with her. Maybe at Orlando's? She takes her shirt off in front of Orlando, because that's a very normal thing to do and low-key faints. He grabs her and gets her on the bed. At least he's a good guy: he puts his jacket on her and kisses her forehead.
Emilia and Seb have the SAME TALK: "thanks", "I'll always be there for you". Nico wakes up and says he's scared (nightmare?) Emilia hugs him.
The next day: both Emilia and Leo remember themselves holding hands.
Roberta tells Sara that Leo feels admiration for Emilia, plus her son considers Leo her dad. Roberta must be thinking WAKE UP, WOMAN! Sara asks her what will they do now. Roberta has an idea (uh oh). Ezequiel calls her and he says that Tigre hit him when he discovered him in la Cueva del Diablo. She tells him he knows what he has to do since Tigre trespassed private property (lock him up in jail). I guess now she'll blackmail Emilia with her father's release... (Not a spoiler, a hypothesis.)
Leo thanks Emilia. He says what they went through wasn't unimportant (no fue poca cosa) and says what she told him in the mines - that people who die together will always be linked. Emilia says it's his problem, not hers if he thinks about what happened this way, what?!
More poison in the tea... When Joaquina turns around, Roberta pours a big portion of the drug the doctor gave her in Ignacio's tea. Marijó comes in, unfortunately after the pouring. Roberta says she should pack her bags: she's going back to Canadá. Marijó doesn't really want to, but Roberta isn't exactly the type of person who'll talk about it with her and take a mutual decision.
Leo is being slightly too warm with Emilia (he almost leans in to kiss her, I mean dude what?!) and Emilia is being slightly too cold with Leo (even before the almost-kiss).
Joaquina brings Ignacio a tray with food and the lethal tea. He doesn't want to eat, so he just drinks the tea. He says he's staying alive for his kids (not for long, pal, not for long).
Roberta gives Sara the Head of HR position. She announces to Leo, Mau, Sara and Emilia that Sebastián quit yesterday, he's been laid off (quit or laid off? And didn't he say he wanted a second chance? Why would he quit?) because of the collapse. Emilia says Seb had nothing to do with the collapse and goes to leave. Roberta screams that she can't leave, the meeting isn't over. Emilia: "If the workers are fired (I thought Seb quit?) unfairly, I don't want to work here anymore"
Two people saved, one person lost - Part 3/3
Emilia leaves. Leo tries to leave too, but Roberta says he wants to speak to him privately. They basically fight for Emilia and Mauricio again. Roberta even tells him that no one wants him here and he should leave! Leo says that his father needs him here.
Emilia asks Doña Alicia about Sebastián. When she confirms he quit (WILL THEY FINALLY STOP CONFUSING US? SO HE QUIT?) she gets her stuff and quits too. Leo finds her and tells her about Ignacio having Alzheimer's. Emilia didn't know this. They agree to go and talk to him together. Mau hears the last part and goes to snitch to his mom. Roberta, when she hears this, goes back to her house. Before she does though, she tells Patricio to make sure the collapse appears as solely Sebastián's fault.
Ignacio is writing a letter to Emilia. In the letter, he calls her "hija" (daughter) and says that he and his first wife, Valeria, always saw her as a daughter (It's confusion time! He literally said "we always saw you as our daughter, because God didn't give us children" and afterwards "later, Marijó was born". He must have meant "we THOUGHT God WOULDn't give us children", because Marijó is his and Valeria's daughter. This show really confuses you with everyone's relationships.) He adds that he'll leave her the mine and that "she will illuminate [the mine] and its gold will shine".
Unfortunately, Roberta, who poured another lethal dose of the drug in his tea comes in. Ignacio tries to hide the letter, but Roberta sees it and makes a fuss about it. She says Emilia is an arribista (social climber). Ignacio has had enough and finally confronts her about everything she's done, including the affair. Roberta thinks Emilia told him, he responds that she didn't; she (Roberta) told him in her way. He adds that he'll transfer the Cueva del Diablo and pretty much everything to Emilia. She (Roberta) won't be La Patrona anymore, but Emilia will and... Before he can finish his sentence, he starts feeling horrible. Roberta grabs him from his neck and tells him to finish his sentence. Um, woman, he can't really do that, he's too busy dying. She says she'll make sure Emilia will inherit nothing. He falls to the ground, she checks his pulse. He's dead. She screams Roberta's line ©: YO SOY LA PATRONA (I AM THE PATRONA) and gets creative with it: she adds Y SIEMPRE SERÉ (AND I WILL ALWAYS BE [THE PATRONA]).
And with Ignacio dead and Roberta pretty angry, we have the Fin del Capítulo.
I was a bit amused by Paula insisting Rogelio could'nt do something like that. I wouldn't have found it so funny if this hadn't been a case of 'we got marriedwithin 5 minutes of meeting each other'. Rogelio saying 'please don't stop trusting me' and Paula agreeing this would never happen wasn't my favourite thing. She definitely has some of this blind faith that isn't very attractive. In the end the focus won't be on what Rogelio did because Ignacio is the bad one here but Martina with her'he did everything right lalala...I'm ignoring any criticism lalala' is the reason why Rogelio is the way he is. She did the same with Marco but I think it's more prominent with rogelio because he has more power and responsibility.
I still can't believe how alike Martina and Rogelio are. It's always about them. Rogelio proved this in the last episode. Thanks,Darcy, for pointing out that part about 'it being a bad time for him'. paula and Cecilia should move in together. Rogelio can stay with his mother.
Imelda's news just make me want to sigh in desperation. Why save the unsavable? Fernando's reaction was funny, though. It's like he thinks that because he didn't mean it to happen, it couldn't possibly have happened. Imelda was crazy to think he'd be glad. She apparently can't believe the good days of 'Fernando adores me' are over or imagines that he can't possibly be unhappy about another child. But she isn't the first one to think a child will fix things. Though in her case it seems a child is a tool and a means to an end, which is disgusting.
I didn't expect Rogelio to congratulate Fernando. Then that time jump made things even weirder.
I don't recall Paula having doubts about marrying Rogelio. But maybewhen she closed her eyes for that little exercise, she decided to go into the whole thing with her eyes still closed. I don't understand why Luis and Andrea waited till the last moment to call it off. They don't strike me as the kind of people who would worry that the town will talk. No one was forcing them.
Weirdow, you la patrona quiz made me laugh because I was thinking that if ther's one word you can learn from this show, it's la patrona. You can know 0 Spanish and still learn this!
I at first was convinced Ignacio said unahija, but nope. So how old are the kids again? Ignacio said they wanted to share their wealth with E before Mariju was born. So it makes more sense that, like you said, they thought they'd not have any kids and then surprise! But the girl is still at school so how long ago did her mum die?
Why exactly did Mauricio tell his motherEmilia and Leo were planning to talk to Ignacio? He said Ignacio would believe anything Leo told him so does Mauricio know shady things are going on there? I can't remember if he is involved in this. If I can't remember things after 4 episodes, I don't know what I'll do when we will be at episode 90.
I also can't remember who Orlando is.
It never stops to amaze me that people who can't manage things properly want so much authority. Leo said his mum and Mauricio are ruining the mine. She is good at saying ' la patrona soy yo', though. So she wanted Leo to die just to avoid a scandal? But wouldn't it have been worse if he had died? I mean, a corpse is a more scandal worthy material. But then she also said Emilia and her security requirements will be a problem now. But surely she, la patrona, can stop her easily.
I recently realised I saw the main antagonist in Contigo si. She was evil there too. Can't they give her a differnt role for a change? Her voice grates on me, though.
Thank you Jarifa! I totally missed the time jump and then my mind wandered and the next thing I knew Rogelio was on the ground, I am so thankful for you!
Wow, Imelda gets pregnant every time you look at her, that’s a neat trick! She’s horrible but I like that black and white and green striped dress she had on last night.
I wonder what Ignacio’s plan is that he would want Fernando to be president when it happens. I think he genuinely likes Fernando so you would think he would want to shield him and hit Rogelio but I guess not…..
I want to see the mystery woman! Who is it? Another jilted former love of daddy? A sister??? Who, who?!
Gracias, Jarifa.
I dearly hope that this family doesn't end up bankrupt with Ignacio laughing in the final moments of the story. If he achieves that he will destroy Fernando as well. Fernando is too stupid to see that. So is Imelda.
He is also too stupid to run the company, which is part of Ignacio's plan.
We have to also hope that Cecelia doesn't get pregnant.
Rogelio had every reason to investigate Ignacio, who is losing his mind with this unjustified revenge.
Luis needs a shrink now to help him get over this new situation.
40+ episodes left means anything can happen.
Good morning!
Great comments. Sure gives us a lot to think about.
Diana, thanks! "Imelda is certainly hastening the Iturbides’ downfall. Does she think Fernando will not feel the repercussions? The premise of dominoes is that when one falls, the others follow" So true. Imelda is way too focused on her own path to see the big picture. I sure hope that Cecilia did hear what Ignacio told Imelda in line and tells Paula.
waterlily, "I don't recall Paula having doubts about marrying Rogelio. But maybe when she closed her eyes for that little exercise, she decided to go into the whole thing with her eyes still closed." thanks for the laugh this morning. I guess "true love" is really blind. Nope, the apple didn't fall far from the tree when considering Martina and Rogelio.
Darcy, "I wonder what Ignacio’s plan is that he would want Fernando to be president when it happens. I think he genuinely likes Fernando so you would think he would want to shield him and hit Rogelio but I guess not….." good question. Is his hatred for Martina and Rogelio sot strong that he doesn't care if Fernando is part of, what seems to be, the inevitable casualties on the way.? BTW, your comment for the last episode where you talked about Rogelio making Paula's job opportunity all about HIM was right on.
Urban, "I dearly hope that this family doesn't end up bankrupt with Ignacio laughing in the final moments of the story. If he achieves that he will destroy Fernando as well. Fernando is too stupid to see that. So is Imelda. He is also too stupid to run the company, which is part of Ignacio's plan." Sort of seems where this all could be headed. We can only hope that Cecilia is using birth control but that is a rarity it seems in novelas these days so I will end my rant before it starts. : )
Can't wait to see how Rogelio ended up bloodied in the street.
Perfect title Weirdo! This was fantastic.
Loved “I'm the Patrona” (pick one, any one 😊) and “Low-key fighting”.
I wasn’t able to watch this frame by frame but I was confused and confounded by so much. Thank you for shining an illuminating spotlight on so much that I missed and/or didn’t understand.
Ignacio you left far too soon. I always find Cesar Evora’s presence comforting and his dulcet tones soothing. He is already sorely missed.
Leo and Emilia live to see another day.
“Roberta says she never considered Leo her son”. But why? The deep level of hatred is hard to understand.
I’m still not sure why or how all the blame is being laid at Sebas’ feet?!
I can’t decide if Jenny or Sara are more annoying…
There is no way Mau raped Emilia. Emilia is too honest to have hugged him had he done that.
Diana
Weirdo, thank you for the excellent recap of all the crying, lying, and dying. I passed your pop quiz. I used to hate pop quizzes when I was in school, but I aced this one . I haven't watched this episode yet, but now I will know what they are saying.
Well, it seems that almost dying together has sealed Emilia and Leo's fate , and they now have a date with destiny .
What was Seb's job , and why is the cave in his fault?
So, nasty Jenny has a nice guy in love with her . why?
I will miss Cesar's hearty laugh and warm hugs . They were a nice relief from La Patrona's resting witch face and sour nature .
All these shows have a formula based on these lyrics " Every rose has its thorn. Every night has its dawn. Every cowboy sings a sad, sad song." So for every Emilia , we get a Sara For every Leo , we get a Mau . For every Igy, we get a Patrona.
Thank you Weirdo! I totally missed the Orlando scenes, I don’t multitask very well apparently! Lol
From the way you described it I wonder if Orlando’s secret is he’s gay. That would explain why Jen has no qualms undressing in front of him.
I am sorry Ignacio is gone but not surprised and I am glad that Emilia decided to let Zaire in! Less bickering and a friend to support her when she goes toe to toe with La Patrona!
I do think Mau knows mom is shady but maybe not, maybe he just knows she wants him in charge and not Leo.
Thanks everyone for your comments! (Replying Part 1)
Waterlily, great questions. I can try to answer them:
Marijó and Gael are 16 and Nico is 6, I don't know the Leo and Mau's ages nor when Valeria died.
I don't think Emi and Leo specified exactly what the wanted to tell Ignacio, my guess is the way the mines are run by Roberta. IIRC Mau being involved in Roberta's shady stuff was never explicitly shown, just like literally EVERYTHING ELSE in this novela. My best guess is that he knows what's going on.
Orlando is the son of Fidel and Fidel's wife, Aleida, who we haven't seen yet. He's the head of the police and friends with Jennifer.
I love "It never stops to amaze me that people who can't manage things properly want so much authority." So true, both in novelas and in real life.
"I mean, a corpse is a more scandal worthy material." IKR? Roberta pretends to be smart, but in reality is really dumb. I can't stand these "I'm so smart" people who actually have 1 IQ point.
Diana, glad you liked the title!
I also can't understand why Roberta hates Leo so much. This wasn't true in the OG. Then again, maybe all these changes are for the best; it makes it easier to stop comparing Minas to La Patrona. This is how I'm watching this; as Enock said, we have to pretend this isn't the La Patrona remake.
This Patricio guy forged some signatures on Emilia's papers to blame Sebas because it was actually HIS fault. Roberta helped him and later blackmailed him with it. So Patricio and Seb have the same position in the company, or can anyone sign anything in there? What is going on?
I think Emilia doesn't know who raped her. Maybe she was a little dizzy from drinking and doesn't remember his face. Sickening... Which keeps Mau as a possible rapist. Didn't she say something like "know we have less chances of being friends" in the first episode? Maybe she was suspecting him?
(Replying Part 2)
Susan, glad you aced my pop quiz ;)
I don't know that position Seb has but I wrote in the first part how everyone thinks it's his fault.
I laughed with "So, nasty Jenny has a nice guy in love with her . why?" Yep, I'm also wondering...
I loved "So for every Emilia , we get a Sara For every Leo , we get a Mau . For every Igy, we get a Patrona." How poetic and true.
Darcy, "From the way you described it I wonder if Orlando’s secret is he’s gay. That would explain why Jen has no qualms undressing in front of him." That's an interesting thought. It makes sense... My guess was he is in love with her, but this could also be it.
I'm also glad Emilia and Zaira stopped fighting. Cynthia Klitbo is amazing in this novela too. I really like her acting.
Thanks once again, Jarifa. Excellent notes!
I was not too surprised when Andrea said no. After she saw Luis talking to Paula she had this look on her face. But when Luis was having his panic attack and using his inhaler I thought he would back out. A marriage that was not meant to be. Although something that was said made me think maybe in the future it will happen.
I felt just as bad as Fernando about the pregnancy. She’ll keep him tied to her forever. She sees herself as the next lady of the house. But the way she treats everyone, and the servants, shoes a real lack of class. Martina is always good to the servants.
Ignacio apparently has a plan, but what is it? I think he’s getting rid of his shares so when the drugs are discovered he won’t be connected to the company. And now Imelda is helping him, she isn’t too bright.
Fernando as president will be in trouble.
Wondering what happened to Rogelio!
Liz
Waterlily, I think César Évora was the galán in the 2005 La Madrastra. I haven't watched it, but I'm pretty sure that's one instance of such a novela.
Waterlily, there are three such novelas that I know of where he was the lead:
-- El Privilegio de Amar (1998)
-- Entre el Amor y el Odio (2002)
-- Mundo de Fieras (2006)
All of these have to be on Vix.
Weirdo, my cable company did not have last night's ep of Minas ready on Demand.
Tierra viewers,I only just managed to see last night's episode and the recap will probably take a little more than an hour. I need help on Mondays and Wednesdays at the very least or these inevitably will always be late.
Episode 25: Notes; Part 1 of 3
Advisory: This is what I can write down during one viewing. Will end if there is insufficient interest and participation.
Maria Teresa did not look eager to get it on with Aldo so what the hell is he doing in her bed?
Santos sat at the candlelit table fur had not taken another shot of tequila when Cris showed up. He told Cris that Maria Teresa had not showed up and was staying with that stuffed shirt. Cris could not believe that Maria Teresa would marry Aldo and felt that Genoveva was mistaken. Santos said he was going to prove that Maria Teresa was making a mistake. Cris poured two shots and they drank.
Maria Teresa went for an early morning run and Aldo followed her. She was surprised and he made some comment about learning to get up early. She excused herself so she could go back to shower and dress. He looked angry as she left.
Genoveva went to Remedios to buy some “chilate” which Remedios initially could not identify. She finally gave her something and told her to put in boiling water with lots of cinnamon.
Santos confided in Galån (the beautiful black horse) about his romantic woes. Bernarda and her daughters arrived and Bernarda talked about the new workers. It was obvious to the three women that Santos was not at his best. Regina signed that she saw tears.
Esteban was worried about Maria Teresa and told Nani. He did not like that she sold her city apartment and wanted no more sacrifices from her.
Valentina went to Cris to find out what was eating Santos and he would not talk. He told her to ask Santos and to stick around.
Genoveva brought her brew to Aldo at the breakfast table, apparently having been confused when hearing that his favorite drink was a chai latte. He took a sip, made an expression of distaste that no one else saw but we flies on the wall and gave fake praise. When Genoveva left he told Maria Teresa that it was the thought that counted. MR was played.
Rutilio asked Grimaldi why Adriana reacted to him as she did Grimaldi said they knew each other and had friends in common.
Maria Teresa was showing Aldo around when she was called back to her house to talk on the phone with her father. She went back with Genoveva as Santos approached from the other direction. Aldo stopped him and lied, saying that Maria Teresa had told him what happened between them and that both of them had laughed about it. Also that he – Santos – had to know his place. Finally, that he and Maria Teresa would be married shortly and “I will become your boss.” Santos told him that Maria Teresa was the only boss at La Esperanza. This led to Aldo saying “When I become the owner of this place you will be out of here.” This escalated into more insults which ended with Santos grabbing Aldo by the lapels.
Episode 25: Notes; Part 2 of 3
Advisory: This is what I can write down during one viewing. Will end if there is insufficient interest and participation.
Grimaldi told a vague story about his acquaintance with Adriana but Rutilio knew he was hiding something. He said that Adriana deserved or needed “to have a real man at her side” [I'm sure he was picturing himself with a riding crop in hand].
Santos and Aldo continued arguing about the usual Class Distinction with Santos finally asking the rhetorical question of what Aldo would or could have done when the place was attacked [We know that Aldo would have hidden somewhere as he lost control of a nether bodily function].
Maria Teresa told her father things were going well. He was pleased that Aldo was there. He seemed eager for her to marry Aldo, but she wanted to devote herself to the ranch for now.
Marco met with the Jackal and Pepe (the mole) who told him that Maria Teresa was back and that there was a contract in place with someone in the capital. There was also a new tractor, animals, and workers. Marco told him to keep him updated.
Maria Teresa told Aldo that her dad and Nani were going to pack up her apartment. He told her not to worry about her father who had total confidence in him(self).
Cris found Santos tossing hay bales in a rage over his encounter with Aldo and what he was told. No, he had not talked to Maria Teresa and thought it would do no good.
Maria Teresa and Aldo arrived at the stables where Regina was helping her mother with a calf [I thought Capuccino was the larger calf we saw the other day]. As Bernarda and Maria Teresa talked about getting more vitamins for the livestock Regina got a seriously bad vibe when Aldo crouched down to touch the calf.
Trejo chewed Clemente out for digging into the old case files and proposed an arrangement on the order of Your Business is Your Business and My Business is Mine. Clemente got the message and as Trejo left the office he looked like he had figured something out.
Marco lurked around and Maria Teresa greeted him. Aldo caught up with her with the manner of staking his claim over her. Marco issued a dinner invitation and she said that would be nice. Aldo talked about getting to know the town, etc. The two men shook hands and fake-smiled at each other.
Remedios brought Santos some food and noticed that something was amiss. He did not want to talk about it but finally told her that he did not get Maria Teresa's change of heart and she hugged him.
Marco took his leave politely and Maria Teresa told Aldo she was not in the mood to dine that night. She didn't want distractions. Aldo went into the “all of life is not work” argument and she caved.
Santos and Remedios sat down and talked Maria Teresa was completely convinced that Santos was a womanizer.
Episode 25: Notes; Part 3 of 3
Advisory: This is what I can write down during one viewing. Will end if there is insufficient interest and participation.
Grimaldi went back to La Soledad much to Adriana's displeasure. Especially when he told her about his conversation with Rutilio. This appeared to be headed toward sexual blackmail.
Clemente had piles of files and binders on his desk and told his father Trejo had him purging the files. He did not yet know where he had to put them. This satisfied Rutilio who then went back to work but Clemente knew that both men were hiding something.
Adriana was panicking, fearing that Grimaldi would talk and she would lose everything. She was throwing things around
Valentina found Santos and lured him into meeting her later. He agreed provided that it was okay with Bernarda, Valentina smirked.
Adriana threw things around and Irasema started picking them up as Marco returned. He asked what was wrong and Irasema told him that Adriana had a headache. He was sure something else was afoot and insisted upon the truth.
Valentia coerced Santos into a kiss [during which methinks he closed his eyes and visualized Maria Teresa]. When he ended it she said it was the best one ever but he must have realized this was wrong. He tried to explain he had a lot of work to do and things to think about. He finally escaped, saying they'd talk later. She looked like she had won.
Irasema finally said something to Marco about Adriana getting upset over Jeronimo's death but Marco wasn't buying it. Irasema finally said some claptrap about women's hearts and Marco let her go, knowing this was not the case.
Cris showed up at the hacienda with a fresh mango in hand. He seemed interested in Genoveva, who went on about Maria Teresa and Aldo.
Valentina told Regina about the kiss. She is clearly delusional.
Irasema ratted Marco out to Adriana.
Regina told Valentina to be careful and I the midst of this Clemente arrived. Valentina became concerned about discovery and suggested that they meet that night.
Maria Teresa and Aldo walked toward the fields being sown. Santos greeted her and she asked to be shown more. As Santo led her farther in Aldo looked angry.
Thank you as always Urban for your great recaps.
I can't wait for Clemente to learn the truth about Jeronimo's death. Adrianna will have a lot more to deal with other than Grimaldi. I love that she is running scared about what Grimaldi will do with what he knows. I agree that some form of sexual blackmail may occur.
Question: what about Irasema? was she involved in the same things as Adrianna? her story line is confusing and boring. To me, it seems like she has no major role other than to be Adrianna's sidekick.
I hope Santos kicks Aldo's behind. Aldo gets on my nerves with his deceit and greed.
Lester
Super job, Jarifa. I'm glad you cited the time jump because I thought I blinked and missed something.
Paula should understand that Ignacio came to town acting like a madman, making threats, and doing underhanded stuff, so Rogelio had no choice.
Fernando is so dumb. I can't wait to see him sink the company and see Ignacio gloating.
ITA about Imelda not realizing she'll go down if the Iturbides go down. Not a deep thinker, that one.
Yay, Andrea said "nope." She and Luis together were dullsville.
I loved the end when Santos led María Teresa into the field. Aldo was afraid to dirty his shoes, I guess. María Teresa needs to tell him she doesn’t want or love him. I think he knows but is just going to keep going with his plans. I do wonder what his plans are. I’m sure he wants to get rid of the ranch. He’s already running her life a bit. She doesn’t want to go to dinner, yet she’ll go.
Valentina needs to find a cute boy her own age. I can’t imagine her mother approving of a relationship between them.
It looks like Clemente will do more digging to find out the truth.
Genoveva is getting on my nerves. She’s more excited about this so called wedding than anyone. I guess she doesn’t notice how people feel from body language and is just going to listen to Aldo and create a great love story for them.
Liz
Liz, "Although something that was said made me think maybe in the future it will happen." I think I know what you mean. It could vey well have been when Gabriel was trying to calm things down with Martina and told Luis something like some times a couples's timing is off and to never say never. At the same time, he was sort of alluding to his own relationship with Martina. I like your supposition about Ignacio: "I think he’s getting rid of his shares so when the drugs are discovered he won’t be connected to the company."
Niecie, they really should do a better job with time jumps. Maybe they could leave the announcement on the screen a bit longer and maybe make it more specific. This one said "some time later". So how long is "some time?" Loved "Not a deep thinker, that one." You can say that again.
Based on her interactions with him I'd say that Genoveva wants Santos for herself. She has, however, a bit more self-respect than Valentina who just throws herself at him.
We've never been told how old Valentina is but she behaves like she's 12 or 13.
Liz, those brand-new white sneakers Aldo wore stood out like sore thumbs. Remember how he freaked out at the spider?
Urban, thank you for your terrific recap replete with revealing and fascinating dialog, the majority of which I didn’t understand. Your sense of humor shone throughout.
“Santos confided in Galån (the beautiful black horse) about his romantic woes” was my favorite scene of the night. Murmured admissions of love to the beautiful steed. What a magnificent animal. Both 😊
“Santos finally asking the rhetorical question of what Aldo would or could have done when the place was attacked [We know that Aldo would have hidden somewhere as he lost control of a nether bodily function]”. HA!
Aldo is such a jealous, insecure low life. His pretense of liking Genovenva’s drink was telling but alas no one saw. Fortunately “Regina got a seriously bad vibe when Aldo crouched down to touch the calf”. Perhaps her powers of observation have been heightened by senses were sharpened by watching Her intuition served her well. I rolled my eyes at the pristine white sneakers!
“Rutilio knew he was hiding something. He said that Adriana deserved or needed “to have a real man at her side” [I'm sure he was picturing himself with a riding crop in hand]”. No doubt Urban, no doubt!!
Diana
Finally just had a chance to watch this episode . It was very moving when Igy and Tigre crawled in to embrace their children . When the miners hit their helmets and chanted " Vivo!" , I got chills . I wonder if that is actually a custom for miners . It's uplifting to see portrayals of true heroes . I dont know any minors, but I do know firefighters and police officers and EMTs.
Tiger looked happy that Emilia hugged Zaire . I was surprised EmilIa hugged Mau . If he was the one who raped her , she obviously has blocked out the memory of his face .
What I am listening to today ..." Oye Com0 Vas" Santana and " Me Gusta tu Baile " Patti La Belle
I have warm , fuzzy feelings for Seb . I love Leo and know he is the galan and destined to have the leading lady ( unless we have another show in which the leading lady wants to be on her own ) , but Seb, Emilia, and Nick make a sweet little family . I really like Seb.
Oswaldo has earned this galan role. The scene between Emilia and Leo with Leo wearing his heart on his sleeve, and Emilia putting up a wall was full of tenderness and longing as he touched her face . Oswald has some galan moves . Bravo.
I liked the way Leo and Emilia toasted each other with their bottles of water right before Sara possesively claimed Leo and Seb came for a group hug with Em and Nic.
Thank you Urban, I am finally watching this now and I appreciate having your recap!!
Aldo is even less likable. I am nearly sure that he knows Maria Teresa slept with Santos, or at least suspects it. That's why he told Santos that she told him what happened between them, he was hoping Santos would confirm his suspicion. I get the feeling his Mr. Nice Guy act would fade away completely after the I do's which will hopefully never happen.
I hate how novela characters just believe everything they are told no matter how ridiculous it is. Aldo tells Santos that he and Maria Teresa got together and laughed about what happened between she and Santos and next we hear him tell both Cris and his aunt that Maria Teresa was laughing at him.....as if that's really something she would do or something that happens. First you cheat on your fiancé (although technically it wasn't cheating since they broke off the engagement) and then you confess to said fiancé that the second their back was turned you slept with someone else, and then you have a good chuckle about the experience! Yep, that is perfectly reasonable, of course that happened! smh
Highlights from the couch . . .
WHERE'S ROGELIO?
Nobody knows where Rogelio is. (Almost) everyone is upset. Paula tries to call him and some stranger answers his phone and doesn't answer again. It is most likely that he has not been kidnapped because nobody has contacted them for any kind of payment. Paula is understandably bordering on the hysterical. Lucas has a dream where his mother tells him that his father is just fine and will be back. Benito the lawyer brings them a video that the police discovered of Rogelio on the street. He is unconscious on the ground where a couple of thugs are stealing from him and beating him. They also stole his car. Nobody knows who his attackers are. Rogelio's current whereabouts are unknown by the family but he has been found and taken to a hospital. Ignacio calls a "guy" and asks him for a favor. Cecilia admits to Paula that she overheard something that her hubby Ignacio said to Imelda at the reception where Fernando was announcing his presidency and the launch of the rapid messenger service. Ignacio had some kind of plan for Rogelio and he was going to have the worst day of his life. (I made a typo on that in the previous episode notes) Paula wants to go and confront him. Cecilia says it could have been about business and had nothing to do with Rogelio's disappearance. She quickly seems to regret that she ever brought it up. (Why would she bring it up if she had no real information and would not want any of them putting her hubby on the spot? Does she think much?) Martina happens to have heard the same thing from a company employee who was at the reception. Paula and she both confront Imelda with no results. Martina also wants to confront Ignacio. Fernando tells her better not to go there. She doesn't. (That bothered me. Who cares what Fernando thinks if Martina thought that Ignacio might have information about Rogelio. Ah, yes, Fernando wouldn't want her to know about how devious he Fernando is.) Ignacio, via his connections, tracks Rogelio's car to a lot and searches it but doesn't find anything of any use. A nurse sees Fernando's press release about his missing brother. Rogelio dreams of what happened. We see him being dizzy and stumbling out of his car and falling unconscious. We then see the thugs recognizing a crime of opportunity! We see them robbing Rogelio, beating him for fun and driving away. With the help of some of his "acquaintances, " Ignacio ends up finding Rogelio the next day. He calls Cecilia and asks to talk to Paula. He found Rogelio and tells her what hospital he is in. He adds that he appreciated how she stood up for him against Rogelio and he hopes that this act of finding her husband serves as a thank you on his part.
ROGELIO FOUND
The next thing we see is Ignacio in Rogelio's room asking him if he thought he wouldn't find him. Rogelio doesn't hear him since he is still unconscious. In tears, Ignacio tells him that he hopes he doesn't die. He jokes a bit saying he only wants him to suffer a bit. He also hopes he doesn't hang him out to dry like his father did. He can't die. Who else would he fight with? have meaningful battles with? He also wants to take that presidency chair away from him, too. He is challenging him to live. He can't die. Ignacio leaves.
The doctor tells Paula and family that Rogelio suffered a beating and that after all the testing they have done, there is no reason for him to still be unconscious. It is going to be a matter of time. Paula and Martina both get to visit him and both are willing to cede their visiting rights to the other when they are told Rogelio can only have one visitor at a time. Martina tells Paula to stay with her son. Eventually Rogelio regains consciousness with Paula by is side.
A BABY!!!!
Paula's water breaks conveniently in the waiting room at the hospital. A wheelchair magically appears and she is whisked away to the delivery room. (Can't get more convenient than that!) Suddenly she and the baby are at risk. The umbilical cord is around the baby's neck. Eventually a baby girl is delivered Mother and child are healthy and out of danger. Rogelio, the baby and Paula end up sharing the same room. The whole Iturbide family visits them. Paula and Rogelio have high hopes for their family with Jazz and Lucas.
That is all I got. Feel free to add what I left out.
Again, this episode took me in an unexpected direction. Ignacio continues to be such a complicated character maybe the most complicated of this novela.
Jarifa, your eagle eyed, sharp observations were marvelously relayed. Your recaps are invaluable and while I aways look forward to learning exactly what was said I look forward to your perceptive comments even more.
“Ignacio continues to be such a complicated character…” is so true and has been the heart and heartache of this novela. It’s so rare to see such a troubled and tortured soul that manages to occasionally show an aching, childlike vulnerability.
“In tears, Ignacio tells (Rogelio) that he hopes he doesn't die. He jokes a bit saying he only wants him to suffer a bit. He also hopes he doesn't hang him out to dry like his father did. He can't die” triggers a moral and ethical dilemma. I can’t quite condemn him but (at least not yet), I can’t quite root for him either.
“Nobody knows where Rogelio is. (Almost) everyone is upset” but yet no one seems to be able to come up with any idea where he is. Until Ignacio finds him.
Blanca has been in so many scenes where she simply stands there, not a word of dialog to utter. Does Marco have to be present in order for her to speak??
Thankfully Paula and baby are fine and are reunited with an on the mend Rogelio. Now hopefully, Paula will come to her senses, lose the “Jazz” and give the little girl a lovely, sensible name.

Dead godfather, imprisoned father - Part 1/3
Some scenes are not in order.
We see Ignacio dying again. Afterwards, Roberta pretends she is worried and screams for help. Marijó and Joaquina come and see Ignacio. Marijó cries that Roberta should call an ambulance. She turns to call it and smiles.
Emilia is talking to this Patricio guy. He says her father hasn't come yet and I think Emi says he might come later.
Zaira is doing some of her witch stuff with herbs on Tigre. Gael is kinda trying not to laugh in the background. They go to eat breakfast. There's a knock on the door; it's Ezequiel, the cop, who arrests Tigre on the spot. We don't hear the reason, but we already know it (trespassing on private property and attacking an official).
Emilia talks with Seb. I didn't get much of their conversation, but at the end Seb said "Great, I'm leaving the mines and I'm leaving your life too now." Emilia says his name, but Seb leaves. She gets a call from an unknown number; it's Tigre, calling from the police station. He tells her he's arrested, she asks why, but Ezequiel just grabs the phone and hangs up. Gee, glad to see there's no police violence in San Lorenzo.
Marijó and Joaquina realise Ignacio is dead and gone. Marijó says she doesn't understand, he was fine! Roberta tells her he wasn't feeling so well the last few days. Joaquina backs her up.
Nico is at school. His teacher asks them to draw what they like best from their parents' job. ("Papás" or "padres" can mean either "fathers" or "parents", so it's "parents" here. There are other sexist stuff like this one in the Spanish language.) The kids whine that their "padres", FATHERS here, all work in the mines, so it's boring. Nico says that so does his mom and the lead bully says that he doesn't have a father. The teacher says he will have to write "I won't be mean to my classmates" after class and apologise to Nico. Yeah, because that's a great way to solve bullying. I was low-key expecting her to wave an anti-bullying poster in front of them.
Emilia bumps into Leo. Sara arrives and starts being annoying. Emilia announces that she changed her mind and she's returning here. (I'm confused. I thought she quit because Seb was wrongly accused and quit. But if Seb isn't coming back why is she?) Sara starts the "I'm the head of HR" crap. Leo takes Emilia's side. After she leaves, Leo and Sara get into a fight.
Jennifer wakes up in Orlando's room. She whines a bit about Mau and they eat breakfast together. She also sends a message to her mom about her sleeping to a friend of hers.
When she gets home, Berta (Gigí) tells her she should inform her next time she sleeps out, because she had to lie to Adalberto about her and Sara not sleeping in the house. Ugh. She continues saying she has an image to take care of, since Mau will ask her to marry him. BERTA, PLEASE SHUT IT! She does, when Jenny tells her there WON'T be a marriage because Mau broke up with her. Berta looks like she's having a stroke. Can we be hopeful we have another death? Jk (or not).
Sara proposes her plan to Seb: he should get married with Emilia and they should leave with Nico. Ugh. Seb looks like he's seriously considering this, WHAT?! (Flashback to Columba and David in Invencible... I think Waterlily won't get her wish about Seb.)
Zaira, Gael and Emilia are all together in the police station. They demand to see Tigre, but Ezequiel says they can't do that. He tells them Tigre's charges. They try to force their way in but the officers stop them.
Seb comes to pick Nico up from school. He sees the weird looks Nico and his classmates exchange. Later, at home, he says that he was bullied as a kid but never said anything out of fear. Nico doesn't really open up to him. Then, Seb asks Nico if he would like him to be his dad. Nico says he would like Leo to be his dad (wow, manners). Seb tells him Leo has a girlfriend and he also has the NERVE to tell Nico he's dating his mom (Emilia) but he shouldn't tell anyone because it's a secret, what?!
Dead godfather, imprisoned father - Part 2/3
Leo comes home to find an ambulance outside. He gets in and is "greeted" by a crying Marijó. He goes to the living room (?) and sees Ignacio's body, covered. He flashbacks to his biological father's death: he, a kid back then, crying over him, begging him not to die. Oh and there was also Roberta in the room, who seemed very bored. Back to the present, Leo pulls the sheet off Ignacio's face and starts crying.
When Roberta and Joaquina are alone, after Roberta gets Ignacio's death certificate, Joaquina tells her she (Roberta) did something to him and confronts her about the drug bottle. Roberta says that she (Joaquina) was the one who was responsible for his tea, so it's her fault, but she shouldn't worry, she's not going to prison. (Something similar happened in the original; Antonia ("Roberta" here) wasn't blackmailing Poncia ("Joaquina" here) with this, since she didn't kill her second husband by overdosing him (but ironically, she killed him by NOT giving him his medication when he needed it and letting him die in front of her), but with something else that I won't write here just in case they keep some part of that plot line.)
Emilia calls Seb and asks him if Nico is okay. After the short phone call, she, Zaira and Gael are talking with Orlando, who says that in order for Tigre to walk free, they need to bring a signed document from Ignacio (because la Cueva del Diablo belongs to him) saying he authorized Tigre to be there. Emilia tells him she's going to bring it.
Emilia goes to her godfather's house and sees everyone dressed in black, looking miserable. She approaches and sees Ignacio's coffin and a picture of him, so she understands he died. Leo confirms it and she starts crying. Leo hugs her. (Okay. They had the funeral arranged in about 10 minutes? Give me a break - and a tighter beanie while you're at it.)
Intro song. Pretty meh-ish.
Roberta tells Mau she'll get over Ignacio's death and she'll look after his future. She says she'll give him the position Leo has now and Leo will leave, since he doesn't have a reason to stay here anyway. Roberta insists on Mau marrying Jennifer. He says he doesn't want to and goes Whine Mode: On when Roberta gets a phone call; they've caught Tigre. She's happy about this. Mau isn't though.
Zaira is praying again and Orlando informs them they can see Tigre. Gael sends a message to Marijó: "Are you ok? I keep sending you messages but you're not responding". They go to see Tigre. After a bit, Ezequiel the cop comes all smiley and tells them Don Ignacio is dead, things aren't looking too good for them. They don't believe him. Tigre is apparently not the sharpest knife in the drawer because he attacks Ezequiel, so now we have: Trespassing on private property and attacking an official x2. Zaira promises Tigre they'll get him out of there. Tigre, after they've left, prays that it isn't true.
When Zaira and Gael go to leave, they hear someone say that the Patrón Ignacio is dead. Now they know Ezequiel was telling the truth. Gael sends an audio message to Marijó saying he heard.
Back to the funeral, Emilia remembers Ignacio telling her he knows about Roberta's affair and says that her godfather had been through something that broke his heart. Leo asks her what it is, because she knows something he doesn't. Emilia covers it up by saying about the people in general and the miners (?) Leo says he'll take care of them (Emilia and her family) now that Ignacio is dead, Emi says she'll take care of him as well and adds "like I took care of my godfather". They hold hands and say they'll be in charge of the mines. Roberta enters, with fake tears on her face, saying Ignacio had a family, THEY'LL be in charge of the mines. Leo argues that Emi is practically family when Sara comes in and hugs him. Ugh. Roberta and Emilia leave.
Dead godfather, imprisoned father - Part 3/3
Mau asks Patricio about Tigre. When he learns about their situation, he thinks it's the perfect opportunity to approach Emilia.
Emilia tells Roberta she wants them to talk about her dad. They go somewhere more quiet as Berta (Gigí) and Jenny enter holding flowers. Berta gossips about Emilia's CLOTHES: they're brown, not black, it's not appropriate. So gossiping in a funeral IS? Jenny says Mauricio's name as he passes by. He ignores her. Berta says she should get her novio back, she should be like Sara, who's an "empowered woman" and returned to San Lorenzo so no one steals her boyfriend. I burst out laughing at this. Sure, very "empowered"...
Roberta pretty much refuses to help Tigre. Berta (is it okay if I keep calling Gigí Berta or will it confuse you guys?) comes and gives her condolences to Roberta. Emilia pulls Roberta away to talk about her dad. She sees Adalberto and Fidel are talking to the press and she angrily tells them they shouldn't be here, especially Fidel, he betrayed her godfather. Adalberto and Fidel leave with the press. Emilia is still screaming behind them. Joaquina comes and says she's right but she should shush because it's Ignacio's funeral.
Emilia calls Sebas. She tells him about Ignacio and cries.
My video had a weird cut there... Did I miss anything? The next scene I saw was with Emilia talking to Mau in her car. He says he'll help her find a lawyer. They go somewhere (outside a lawyer's office?) together. Emilia thanks him for everything he's done. I still dislike Emilia. One minute she tells Mau to back off, the next she thanks him, then she says he should back off again and then thanks him again!
Leo is with Marijó and he talks to his father's (biological father's) picture. Orlando comes and hugs them. He tells them about Tigre and that Roberta was the one who ordered to lock him up.
Emi is visiting Tigre in the police station. She says they'll sell the house to pay the money needed to get him out of here since Roberta isn't cooperating. Tigre admits that he put up the house for collateral, so they can't do that. Oops.
Leo and Marijó are hugging. Roberta walks in the room. Leo confronts her about the miners and something having to do with the press (?). He then asks her if she knew Ignacio wanted Emilia and Tigre to be his socios. Roberta claims she didn't and acts surprised. She says she's Ignacio's heredera (heiress) and the only... All together everybody! PATRONA!
And with Roberta saying her Roberta line ©, we have the Fin del Capítulo.
So Seb turned out to be a huge disappointment. What was he thinking when he told Nico all this crap about him dating Emilia? If he had a few brain cells he would have seen it's not a good idea. And sure, it's a "secret", but Emilia supposedly knows, so Nico may tell her! UGH David Version 2.0 here.
Roberta should just stop repeating herself and go do some actual work. Her vocabulary is basically "la patrona soy yo", "minera mugrosa" and "Leonardo tiene que ir" ("I'm the Patrona", "filthy miner" and "Leonardo has to leave"). Honestly she's not giving me Patrona vibes.
Am I the only one who loses it when I hear that Sara is supposedly "empowered" and "independent"? Really now? THAT'S independent to you? When did "following around my boyfriend so he doesn't cheat on me" become independent?
I have to say I couldn't take Paula's histeria seriously. I know she is upset but the whole 'I don't want to live without him'...There's something about this particular line in telenovelas that makes me angry in certain situations. I was like,'well, technically, if you died, your baby would too so...' I know it's a moment of stress and so on, but I'd have preferred it if she had said something along the lines of his daughter needing him or something. She did that later, but that on its own would have been enough for me.
Ignacio at Rogelio's bedside was tragic. I can't help but feel sorry for him because he had so much stacked against him due to what his mother was like. People love repeating this idea that oh not everyone turns into a horrible person even with worse upbringing but it feels like such a weird thing to say when all it proves is that people are different. One succeeding is not a requirement for another to do the same.
I feel sorry for Fernando too. I think part of this is because Rogelio is insufferable and I can't stand how he treats Paula. Ican't watch Ignacio's abuse but I equally cannot stand Rogelio's selfishness.Mama's boys feel like a lostcause to me now. But Fernando will feel betrayed. I get everyone will say oh he had it coming, but I can't help but think he is the way he is for a reason. And I remember believing his love for Imelda more than Rogelio's love for Paula. Rogelio is only good for grand gestures and getting moca blanco.
It amuses me everyone wanted to 'confront' Ignacio because it's not like a bad guy will admit to doing bad things so you could turn him in. It's out of desperation but in this ocasion, unlike when David went to confront Gerimias in Invencible, I actually didn't care enough about the character to feel the sort of anger I do when good guys are mad at bad ones.
Diana, thanks for your always kind comments. "It’s so rare to see such a troubled and tortured soul that manages to occasionally show an aching, childlike vulnerability." Exactly. So much potential but, unfortunately, it seems that he is still hellbent on his familial mission of revenge. I didn't see him calling Carmelo to call his deal with him off. The writers did a great job letting us think that he was the cause of Rogelio's disappearance but then making him Rogelio's finder. I was thinking that the Iturbides should be a hospital corporation instead of a transportation one since they spend so much time in them. ; )
waterlily, "But Fernando will feel betrayed. I get everyone will say oh he had it coming, but I can't help but think he is the way he is for a reason." I so agree. There was one scene where Martina sat down with Fernando and apologized for what she said about him in the past. She then told him how very proud she was of him and how much she loved hm. He looked like a little kid in that scene which makes you wonder if he ever heard any of that before from his mother. It seems that Martina has run a stiff-upper lip, no nonsense type of household where not much praise or affection was ever easily given.
Thanks, Jarifa, once again you come up with a great recap.
The doctors couldn’t understand why he wouldn’t wake up from the beating. But he was basically unconscious before the beating. At first I thought he was drunk but now I wonder if Ignacio put something in a drink before the events we saw. He obviously didn’t want him to die. But he wants to take the presidency chair from him. Fernando already did that. And he referred to “ hanging him out to dry like his father did”. But he knows his father wanted him. Either he’s confused or I am!
Glad it was another hospital! We always see that same scene, outside of the hospital.
Martina was surprisingly nice, letting Paula stay with Rogelio when only one could remain.
Another sweet baby. But wasn’t Eva pregnant first! She looks more pregnant. I’m surprised Imelda hasn’t announced hers yet.
Cecilia and Paula are going to have a rocky friendship for a while. Because of both husbands. But Cecilia knows her husband wants to destroy the business and the brothers. She’s in a tough place and might have to make a choice.
Liz
Thank you Jarifa, as always you provide all the needed info and so skillfully!!!
I'm with you Liz, Rogelio looked like he was drugged before he was ever mugged. There's more to this story. I also thought that when the thugs started beating him (although they could have done it for the fun of it like Jarifa suggested) why beat an already unconscious man if your only motive is robbery, it was unnecessarily aggressive and made me think they had been sent to do the job. But maybe it was random...
So are Fernando and Imelda back together for real?? I am not sure how the time jump affected that, they look like they are back to bonded and not just together for the sake of the unplanned/planned pregnancy.
What I got from Ignacio's 'hanging him out to dry like his father did' statement is that Daddy died before the issue could be resolved. Ignacio never got neither revenge nor reconciliation with daddy because he was gone and he doesn't want Rogelio to die and leave this issue unresolved either. He wants to fight it out and he wants Rogelio there for the fight.
Thanks Weirdo, I haven't had a chance to watch yet and tonight I have ESL class. Tomorrow is Thursday night Football (GO Chiefs!!!) so I'll probably end up a couple days behind but I'll catch up by the weekend! :)
Jarifa, thank you so much for another wonderful report from your couch. I hope you had a tasty snack to get through this episode which was....A lot.
I am very confused about what happened to Rogelio. Am I correct that he was dizzy when he stood up at the office ? I wondered if he was going to have some kind of illness or if Igy had drugged him. So, he also seemed dizzy when he got out of the car because he put his hand to his head before he collapsed . Then, the rando thugs robbed him and kicked him just for fun . But I am still wondering about his dizzy spells. Is there some underlying issue or did Igy drug him?
Rogelio woke up sooner than I expected . Then, everything went so fast...water broke, baby was in danger , Paula lost consciousness (?) , then Paula and baby Jazz ( no just no) were fine . Then ,the happy family were cozy all in the same bed with the whole family visiting ...except bitter itch Imelda. It was a lot.
I have to throw in that Paula had the worst fake belly I have ever seen on a show.
And who is the mystery person Igy talked to on the phone. I feel sympathy for Igy , but he is causing so much damage and chaos...as some people do. I don't think he can have a happy ending , but he might be able to try to fix the damage and get forgiveness.
Weirdo, this was your finest recap yet (which is saying a LOT). “Dead godfather, imprisoned father” was inspired.
There were so many strange and troubling elements last night. The oddest was having both Emilia AND Leo stumbling into the wake, neither knowing beforehand. As you so smartly noted” (Okay. They had the funeral arranged in about 10 minutes? Give me a break - and a tighter beanie while you're at it.)”
Emilia and Leo’s bond in their grief is cementing them closer together.
Since Sebas seemed pretty much perfect, it made sense that his character blemishes would be revealed rather quickly as he isn’t destined to be “THE” galan. “David Version 2.0 here” was sadly true.
Strange school days. “The teacher says he will have to write "I won't be mean to my classmates" after class and apologise to Nico. Yeah, because that's a great way to solve bullying” elicited head shaking and vigorous nodding in agreement.
Leave it to Roberta to turn the tables on Joaquina. Ack.
I like Tigre and his fighting spirit.
You saved the best for last: “Her vocabulary is basically "la patrona soy yo", "minera mugrosa" and "Leonardo tiene que ir" ("I'm the Patrona", "filthy miner" and "Leonardo has to leave"). Honestly she's not giving me Patrona vibes”. Perfect!
Diana
Liz and Darcy, I couldn't figure out what state Rogelio was in when he fainted but having something put in his drink made perfect sense.
The thugs just "happening" to be sitting there seemed too random. At first. But they seemed to exchange looks meaning it just might have been just a very unfortuitous circumstance for Rogelio. I'm confused and unsure.
"I was thinking that the Iturbides should be a hospital corporation instead of a transportation one since they spend so much time in them. ; )" is right Jarifa! It's been a revolving door so to speak!
Diana
Thank you for another excellent account of all the drama as our story continues to unfold. I watched half and recorded the last half so that I could get some sleep .
I finally saw Officer Orlando , who is good looking enough to be a galan someday if he has the acting ability .
Cinthia ( Zaire) seemed to enjoy swatting Tiger with those herbs(?) Cynthia is a treasure . I will certainly miss Cesar's presence . I wonder if we will get any flashbacks with him.
I wonder what caused Leo's bio father's death ...La Patrona?????
Anette is playing this part exactly like she played her part in La Mujer de Judas ...same stone face and icy stare and icy delivery of her lines. Yikes . ...stone cold killer.
Love Gael . This young actor has a bright future. The young actor playing Nico is great .
I still like Seb, hopelessly devoted to Emilia and Nico. I know single mothers who would love to have a Seb watching over them . If Seb isn't working at the mine, what job could he get in that place ? Will he join the police department ? I discovered that this actor used to play professional soccer which explains his body language. Athletes have a way of moving . He picks up Nick effortlessly.
Well, my long comment disappeared into the mystic , so will just say thank you and that A LOT happened last night.
I ,too, noticed that Rogelio seemed dizzy when he stood up at the office and also when he got out of the car, so he was either drugged or has some underlying illness (ugh).
And.....all...that....Jazz.
Liz, “Glad it was another hospital.” Me, too. Now we know there are at least two hospitals in Morelia. It really looks like Martina has come to accept Paula into the family. I couldn’t believe when she agreed to leave Rogelio’s room so Paula could stay. Will those two become allies? As for Paula and Cecilia being able to keep their friendship, what a mess!
Darcy, as for the violence of the attack, I found it quite realistic. We see that all the time where I live in the USA where criminals are no longer content to just rob or steal but actually enjoy inflicting as much damage as possible or maybe even killing the victim over what we would consider very small stakes. Excellent point that Hipólito left Ignacio in a kind of limbo without being to reconcile with him or have his revenge on him.
Episode 26: Notes; Part 1 of 2
Advisory: This is what I can write down during one viewing. Can someone else step in regularly for Mondays and Wednesdays, please?
That evening Aldo ended up with a dirty T-shirt [How? Did anyone notice the sneakers?] as Maria Teresa talked about the need to treat the workers well. She then went to shower so she could dress for dinner,
Valentina talked to Cris about a distraction for getting her mother out of the way. Cris made something up and Bernada fell for it but demanded they return in two hours.
Santos saw Maria Teresa dressed for dinner as he was delivering a package to Genoveva from Remedios. Maria Teresa left with the insufferable Aldo.
Rut sat down to dinner, critical as usual. He began asking Norma about whether she had been hanging out with Adriana, whom Rut wished she were more like [I can't wait until he finds out!].
Aldo said at dinner that the wedding would be soon, beating Maria Teresa to answering Adriana's question. He said that the wedding will be private only with family and friends. Adriana offered to help plan it. As that progressed Maria Teresa looked less and less enthusiastic about it.
Valentina escorted Regina to the meeting place with Clemente who promised to take care of her. They began signing to each other.
Valentina and Santos got snacks and talked about The Kiss. It was as though he had forgotten Maria Teresa.
Marco had a go at Maria Teresa , saying she was not the type of woman to do anything against her will.
Valentina said that all the women in town want him because he was handsome but she loved him because of his goodness. A few sentences later he asked her to be his novia but told her he had to talk to her mother. She didn't like that.
Maria Teresa tried explaining to Marco she will marry eventually but the ranch was her priority. He tried to get her to talk more about it. She was a little ill at ease.
Regina and Clemente wrote in a notebook and he told her he would not be leaving Puerto Bravo because of her. He spoke in between, telling her she was the most beautiful girl he ever saw.
Genoveva and Cris walked around and talked although he seemed a bit distracted.
Clemente said he knew Bernarda was a bit difficult but he was determined to get on her good side. [Good luck with that, kid,]
Maria Teresa talked a little about the ranch's products and that she had more cash infused into the efforts. She then stopped drinking the wine as Aldo suggested they leave.
Rut was asleep when Norma went up to bed. She opened her modest jewelry box and held a few things up to see how they looked in the mirror. She then took out a red and black dress and stopped saying something like “Why am I doing this? I will never be like Adriana.” [In more ways than one, as we know.]
Episode 26: Notes; Part 2 of 2
Advisory: This is what I can write down during one viewing. Can someone else step in regularly for Mondays and Wednesdays, please?
The escapees arrived at Bernarda's house on time. Santos told Bernarda he had to talk to her in the morning.
Marco and Adriana talked about their guests. She had noticed that Maria Teresa seemed less enthusiastic than Aldo about the as yet unscheduled wedding. However she had no problem with that.
Santos told Cris he was going to try to fall in love with Valentina. Cris looked a bit doubtful.
Valentina deliriously told Regina that she and Santos were novios. Regina was happy for her but still a little doubtful.
The next morning Maria Teresa and Aldo came back from their morning run to some lovely Lemonade by Genoveva, who was enthusiastic about the upcoming wedding.
Clemente showed Norma his latest drawing. She was impressed and talked about making a change in her look and he said she should if it would make her happy.
Aldo dressed to go somewhere and he told Maria Teresa he would be back to help her.
Valentina –- now clad in sexy black – brought a cold drink to Santos and they talked about going riding.
Aldo got on the river bus/taxi and had trouble getting a signal on his cell phone.
Santos and Valentina kissed. Maria Teresa saw that.
Norma went to La Soledad and told Adriana she wanted to get to know her better but Adriana slammed that door in her face.
Maria Teresa told Santos she didn't care whom he chased in town but drew the line at the ranch. Se didn't want any problems with Bernarda.
Norma asked Adriana to please listen to her. She then confessed that Rutilio wanted her to be more sophisticated. Adriana told her she didn't have to change, but Norma told her that the quality of her marriage had declined in the past few years.
Santos told Maria Teresa that he and Valentina were novios. She started crying as he accused her of hypocrisy and told her she could have Aldo; he did not care. He was crying as well.
Adriana finally agreed to help Norma. She told her she had to believe in her own beauty. [Good luck to the wife of a cheater like Rut.]
Aldo finally had a signal and spoke to Victor who wired him half the owed money immediately but said he did not have the rest.
Maria Teresa went up to her room with Santos' words echoing I her head. More tears.
Susan, Yes, Rogelio called his doctor about the dizzy spell in the office and in addition to the doctor thinking it was most likely due to stress, he wanted him to come in for a check up. Will neurological exams after the attack count? I sure hope so. They found nothing wrong with his noggin but what if the dizziness problem isn’t directly in his noggin? We do not need another trip to the hospital with this group! I loved “Chicago.”
I know this is WEIRD but for a while now, Ignacio makes me think of Cujo the dog from the novel of the same name. Cujo the dog wanted to be a good boy but couldn’t because rabies was taking over his brain. Here we have Ignacio who really wants to be a part of his father’s family but his brain has been poisoned by his quest for revenge. He is no better than a rabid dog now.
Gracias once again, Jarifa.
So at least we didn't get a long, drawn-out kidnapping story with or without a ransom demand. However, since the doctor said there was no good reason for Rogelio to be unconscious, I wonder whether he was faking it when Ignacio spouted his venom.
I think Jasmina is a perfectly good name for the baby.
Ditto the comment about Blanca, but she has a bigger ladder to climb than Paula did.
Imelda disgusts me more every time. She and Fenando will destroy the business.
I do hope that this will not end with this family in ruin. Another novlea I recapped ended with the main couple getting everything and giving it all to charity.
Urban, now that would be an interesting twist if Rogelio did here everything Ignacio said. Who knows? I would say ANY traditional name would be better than Jazz but, hey, it is the 2020’s and young people are into extremely “unique” names these days.
Urban, another fantastic summary; while I understood the “tone” of much of what occurred, I missed most of the dialog.
“Santos told Cris he was going to try to fall in love with Valentina. Cris looked a bit doubtful” and “Regina was happy for her but still a little doubtful…” was exactly right. Count me in the “doubtful” column as well. To me, the actress appears in her late teens, not the 26 she is in RL. The age difference is painfully obvious. Will Santos and Valentina be going on double dates with Regina and Clemente?? Color me uncomfortable.
“Maria Teresa told Santos she didn't care whom he chased in town but drew the line at the ranch. She didn't want any problems with Bernarda”. Right rationale not to offend Bernarda– wrong reason: jealousy!
I didn’t understand why Norma was rummaging through her closet for a (clearly) sexier dress and jewelry box for flashier and more accessories. What a fool Rut was for telling her she should be more like Adriana. What a fool she was to believe it.
Marco’s intense stares at Maria Teresa are so obvious I’m surprised neither Maria Teresa nor Aldo didn’t surmise what is really going on.
Whyever did Santos hook up with Valentina rather than fighting tooth and nail for Maria Teresa? He’s a bit too old to react in such a self-pitying and yes, unfair (to Valentina) manner.
Diana
Weirdo, your 'patrona' jokes are the best. I had to stop reading at that part because I burst out laughing. I had that weird cut too and was wondering what happened. I also had the beginning cut too and had to go looking for a different recording, which had terrible sound quality.
Why didn't Emilia tell Leo his mother had a lover? Did Joaquina stop Emilia's rant out of decency or because she wants patrona on her side as a guarantee she won't go to prison?
Did Sebas say E was his novia or that he wanted her to be his novia? At that part I could see my hopes for Seb quietly starting to dwindle. It struck me today what a pity it is that there's a predermined galan. It obviously has to be someone, but the problem is that they make the other one so unlikable, which feels unfair. It's like the guy can't win on his own merit. I bet they'll make it so Nico tells Leo about the bullying. At this point I still like Seb because his scenes with Nico are absolutely lovely and Seb has been his friend for a long time. It's hard to compete with that.
Leo talked about 'taking long' to realise what a treasure Emilia is. So have they known each other at some point? He's been there for a bit and I genuinely don't get why there was a need for him to declare he has come to this absolutely critical conclusion.
If Emilia means to take care Leothe way she took care of Ignacio, she might be declaring Leo is likely to end up dead. I know it's not her fault, but it's the impression you get when the other person you took care of is dead.
La patrona also thinks Mauricio is irresponsible. And she told him this after he complained Ignacio never had any faith in him. So does he actually think he's a great leader. No wonder he and la patrona are related. He couldcall himself el patron (after his mum gets to say her line, obviously) and everyone could chant 'del mal'
When I first fell down the telenovela rabbit hole and found Melinama's "Pratie place " site (where she started translating and recapping novelas ) 16 years ago , I was told that telenovelas had a formula . .. There was a main couple and then there were a bad guy and a bad girl ...the bad guy wanted the leading lady and the bad girl wanted the galan . The galan could be a cad in some ways , but he became the leading lady's protector . The leading lady was pure and sometimes had not even slept with her husband ( Alborada). The only person she got to sleep with was the galan.
Nowadays the formula has changed and the shows seem to show more gray , and we now sometimes see another good guy as competition for the galan for the leading lady. However, at the end , the leading lady chooses the galan....except in "Invencible" where she decides that she doesn't need either of these guys . The original telenovela formula seems to be changing .
After so many years watching these shows, I thought I had seen it all, but I am watching an old Venevision show , and the hopelessly devoted second banana is supporting the leading lady in every way , everywhere , all the time body and soul . He wears beautiful, unique shirts , and in the last episode I watched , when he turned around , his black shirt was embellished with a pair of rhinestone angel wings . Very subtle , right? This guy is a true angel just in case viewers didn't get it.
Susan, I wonder when the formula has started changing? Because I remember watching a telenovela when I was at primary school in early 2000s and the galan even then was disappointing. I remember not questioning things much back then because I took it for granted the leading lady was in love with the guy. But the Venezuelan telenovela I saw had some pretty disturbing things. I am talking here of things the galan did. The other guy was a baddy so the formula kind of fits. So I wonder where is the line between he is a cad and this is too disturbing. I've heard that Leticia Calderon thought that the guy who ended up with her character in Esmeralda didn't deserve Esmeralda. If the actress herself thinks the galan is no good, I'd say that means the authors didn't do a good job of writing an apealing malegalan. If they really want me to accept someone like Rogelio, they should have made the lady a bit more interesting too because with this formula I might never get a satisfying love story. If they are going for Rhett Butler type ending up with Melanie Wilx, that's not going to work for me. And maybe this is exactly the problem. This feels like a fairytale that istoo close to reality because a woman ends up accepting all kinds of nonsense from a guy whereas he is never forced to go through the same. Even modern telenovelas like Vencer, which is supposed to be such a modern take on things, have this 'men will be men' theme because a man is allowed to sleep with another woman, but not the leading lady.
Thank you once again Urban. Your excellent recap helped me understand things I did not understand by watching the episode. I didn't understand that Norma wanted to be more like Adrianna. I agree with previous comments, why would she ever want to be like her?
Questions: I saw Marco putting drops into his eyes. What was that? and why?
Also, what is Aldo really up to? He called this man ( whose name I don't know) and asked for money. Apparently the guy didn't have all that he owed Aldo. What is actually going on?
Urban, I really like the adjectives you use when talking about some of the characters.
Lester
Thanks for the comments.
No matter what Norma does Rut will never see her any differently. She is still just a maternal figure and easily fooled into an unbearable respectability. I'm also sure he's strictly a wham-bam-thankyou-ma'am kind of a bloke. All women deserve better than that.
Clemente will find him out and really macho up to protect Norma who then might see him as grown up.
I think that Victor is playing Aldo regarding that money.
To answer an earlier question, Irasema was also a lady of the evening.
Gracias, Jarifa.
Yay, Paula and Rogelio's baby is born and Rogelio is fixed up in one hit at the hospital. I hate hospital dramas, so I'm glad they got express family service.
Wondering how all these babies will get along. This will be the most I've seen in a TN.
The docs haven't been too thorough if they don't realize Rogelio was either drugged or dizzy before the brutal assault.
When Paula said she named the baby "Jazz," I thought "but Paula, you don't even sing Jazz!" I know nobody is at Rogelio's table, but it's times like that when he shows his love, because he's just going along with this name for Paula.
Niecie, shhhh...I am at Rog's table with you...shhh. Mama has put him on a pedestal , but being the oldest brother and running the family business that supports everyone can be very stressful , I think . Everybody wants to be in charge and independent, but when stuff hits the fan , they all look at the Big Dog to fix it . This happens in real life with people who are capable, responsible and competent . As someone I knew used to tell me , " Everybody wants me to make it happen for them." Some people are just always looked to fix things for other people. I think that is what happened to Rog, the big dog.
Waterlily, I don't know exactly when the telenovelas started to change the formula. I only started watching old Venezuelan telenovelas recently, and the storylines are crazy ridiculous but so fun to just suspend your disbelief and enjoy the wild ride . The Mexican telenovelas aren't as unbelievable and odd in their plots. We also are getting many more PSAs than the older Mexican shows brought us.
Minas actually has three guys in love with Emilia...two good and one bad ( Mau). So far , she has no competition for Seb , but Jenny wants Mau and Sara wants Leo and both those chicks are really trying to hold onto their guys.
Niecie, "I hate hospital dramas, so I'm glad they got express family service." Me, too. Here is hoping that was the last visit to a hospital or even to a doctor. Don't need it to ramp up the drama. I am at Rogelio's table most of the time. I think he has had a hard life of responsibility. If his father had been alive longer, he might have turned out to be a more free-wheeling kind of person. It is hard to not be controlling when you are the one who is going to end up responsible for what happens.
Susan, you put it so much better than I did. ; )
Finally had a chance to watch the last half. Leo and Orlando hugged when Orlando came to pay his respects , so they seem close ,but Orlando looks younger than Leo. I wonder how they are connected . They were talking about Emilia. Orlando seems like a good guy.
Oswaldo is doing a great job so far . I think the acting in general has been good so far .
From the flashback we saw, it sure looked like Mau is the rapist. However,,Emilia doesn't seem to remember it was him because she hugged him after she was rescued from the mine and went with him last night to the police station.
Finally caught up. Thanks, Weirdo.
The scene of Emilia and Leo being trapped was well-performed as was their reactions to Ignacio's death. I am getting more and more annoyed with the younger characters, especially the bratty kids who bully Nico. Oswaldo de Leon is the one actor who will hold my attention until Livia Brito's character is fleshed out a bit better. I have not seen any previous version of this story.
I take it that Ignacio didn't have a will sitting in any law office?
FELIPA OUTS IMELDA Paula comes home to a brand new cradle just like the one that was burned. Imelda is not pleased. Imelda finds out that Martina is giving Rogelio a very special gift for Jazz's birth. She tells Felipa she wants her find it and give it to her. Seeing Felipa's hesitancy, she asks her if she wants to end up on the street. Felipa reminds her that she made her burn the cradle. Imelda asks her if she has any proof of that. Martina comes in looking suspiciously at Imelda. Imelda leaves. Felipa cannot keep it inside any more. She confesses to burning the crib adding that Imelda forced her to do it. She tells Martina how Imelda has been coercing her all along. Felipa and Melitón are afraid that Martina is going to fire them but Martina doesn't telling them that she thinks of them like her children. We are all human and make mistakes. She will let it go just this one time. Imelda won't be bothering them.
IGNACIO COULD MAKE CECILIA CHOOSE between him and Paula. Ignacio tells Cecilia how for a moment he felt like he was a part of a real family at the cookout but it turned out to be an illusion. She tells him that one day they will have their own family. She then tells him to think carelully about what he is going to do so he is not sorry later. He answers saying he will never be sorry for what he does to Rogelio. Rogelio is a selfish man. She starts to suggest that he try to change his mind when he cuts her off and tells her that she needs to think about what side she is on. That is important to him. He leaves not wanting to fight. He comes back later after the truck with drugs has left and wants to celebrate with a glass of wine because he has discovered that life is not as bad as he thought. He tells her he wants a child. Earlier, she told Paula she wasn't sure she wanted children.
CARMELO gets a call from Ignacio. Carmelo assures him the plan is ready to go. Ignacio reminds him that his name cannot be involved in anything. Carmelo recruits a young worker from the Iturbide Company to handle the shipment. He gives him a song and dance act about having equipment that he wants to ship but also avoid paying import tax on. The guy agrees to put on counterfeit shipping tags saying that the tax has been paid. The guy also needs to take a photo of truck's license plate and send it to a particular phone number, etc. etc. etc. He shows the guy a wad of pesos to be paid when the delivery is made and offers to give him a down payment. The guy is in. Carmelo talks with Ignacio and assures him everything is ready to go tonight. Ignacio says that once his brothers are destroyed, he will give Carmelo all the money he needs to live the rest of his life but he will have to leave town. The guy follows Carmelo's instructions. When Ignacio gets a photo of the license plate from the truck that the drugs are on, he calls somebody somewhere and then removes the SIM card from his phone. The truck doesn't get far before it is pulled over by the police.
MARTINA tells Imelda that she knows she is always plotting behind her back. She knows all about what she did to Felipa and if she tries it again, she will be the one out on the street. She also says that she inherited envy from her mother and she needs to be careful that she doesn't pass it along to her daughter. Imelda actually looks like Martina might have made an impression on her.
IMELDA GETS BACK WITH FERNANDO but their first romantic interlude is interrupted by police at the front door. Fernando is being arrested as the legal representative of the Iturbide company because they found an Iturbide truck loaded with drugs headed for Cancún.
ALE invites Ulises out with a set time/place and he says yes. Aunt Pati is telling her friends about this new guy she met AKA Ulises. She sees Ale and Ulises together at the same bar/restaurant she is at and is disappointed.
EVA sees Fidel talking and hugging an old female friend of his and gets jealous even though he is bringing her all the cake she wanted in all the flavors she wanted. Truth be told, she is going into labor and is miserable. She has a baby boy.
BEATRIZ IS OUT MANEUVERED Beatriz tells Imelda how angry she is with Martina because she humiliated her. Martina said she was retiring and now suddenly she is running for presidenta again. Imelda is sick of Paula being the center of attention . . . again and that Martina is giving Rogelio a special gift from when he was a baby.
MARTINA opens an old trunk and has all of her boys's old toys and Christening clothes etc. She distributes them among the
Please add anything I left out.
Uh oh . . Cecilia isn't sure she wants kids. I think we know who will probably get pregnant next . . . No spoiler in case I am right. Just guessing!
Finally, Felipa was vindicated.
More mañana.
Jarifa, your excellent recap captured the shifting sands of betrayals, revealing some, keeping others hidden.
Ignacio and Cecilia constantly seem to be on the verge of coming together, yet there is too much that divides them. You see her visibly softening until he starts in, tonight on Rogelio. “She then tells him to think carefully about what he is going to do so he is not sorry later. He answers saying he will never be sorry for what he does to Rogelio”. She knows he is wrong and yet when she “starts to suggest that he try to change his mind…he cuts her off and tells her that she needs to think about what side she is on”. His explosive anger is uncontrollable and he is incapable of calm and rational thought.
Cecilia telling Paula “she wasn’t sure she wanted children” is likely sadly after the fact. I suspect that when Ignacio finds out, he will never allow himself to be separated from his child. As there is nothing to indicate he sees the error of his ways or going to change and repent, the person in the most immediate danger is Cecilia. I am very afraid for her.
The only enjoyable moments were Fidel and Eva. Fidel, trying to tempt Eva into forgiveness by holding the tempting pastries as a peace offering and then of course another baby.
Martina IS thawing a bit by forgiving Felipa and Meliton, but I had to smile that although she thinks of them “as her children” she rebuffed their hug. But it was in keeping with her personality I have to admit.
I liked the scene where Martina shared her boys’ childhood treasures with the family. Rogelio was cute putting the little hat on his head and laughing at the tiny shoes he wore as a child. The actor seemed to improvise a bit of it and it was sweet.
As Ignacio hasn’t hesitated to throw loyal Fernando under the bus, the fall of the family certainly can’t be far behind.
Diana
Thanks everyone!
Darcy, today is also football day for me: Netherlands VS Greece, qualifier game for Euro 2024! (So maybe today's episode's recap will be delayed.)
Diana, thanks a lot! I'm glad you liked the title.
"Since Sebas seemed pretty much perfect, it made sense that his character blemishes would be revealed rather quickly as he isn’t destined to be “THE” galan." Sadly true... I wonder why they keep creating good characters and then ruining them on purpose. Just don't add a character that's galán material if they're not the galán! That drives me crazy.
Susan, "I wonder what caused Leo's bio father's death ...La Patrona?????" LOL she's definitely a suspect. That's probably the killer.
I agree about Anette Michel, although, at least in this role, it fits for me. Maybe because the writers made her such one-dimensional, the stone cold killer look makes sense for me. Or perhaps she's just another Brito, who plays every role she gets the same.
Interesting info about Carlos Gatica!
Waterlily, "Did Joaquina stop Emilia's rant out of decency or because she wants patrona on her side as a guarantee she won't go to prison?" That's a great question. I'm guessing it's a bit of both.
"It struck me today what a pity it is that there's a predermined galan. It obviously has to be someone, but the problem is that they make the other one so unlikable, which feels unfair." IKR? Either don't add a secondary character with many galán traits, or add one but without making him awful! It's like they're trying to "justify" the protagonista's choice a bit TOO much.
"I bet they'll make it so Nico tells Leo about the bullying" UGH, I hope not, but I think so. These telenovela kids are so annoying.
LOL about Emilia basically declaring Leo dead.
Urban, "I am getting more and more annoyed with the younger characters" Kind of hard not to! LOL they've turned out to be pretty annoying.
Everyone: I love that we're trolling Roberta by calling her "La Patrona". LOL it's so funny for some reason.
The will that shocked us to death! - Part 1/4
We see the last scene of the previous episode again.
Emilia and Tigre hug. Tigre says he wanted the money because he didn't want Ignacio to be the only one investing in their business. Emi thinks they can pay for Tigre's release with the money he got from the collateral, since there won't be a partnership. Tigre tells her he doesn't have the money anymore, he already transferred it to Ignacio. He only kept three thousand pesos, which might sound a lot, but they're actually 169€ or 175$. Ezequiel comes in with Seb and tells then they're lucky, Tigre can go. Emi and Tigre are both confused, Seb explains that he got a good lawyer (hold up, wasn't Mau getting Emi one?) and he managed to lower the money needed to release Tigre. Seb payed for it. Tigre says he wants to see Ignacio for the last time.
Surprisingly, we get... Another funeral? Yep, way more formal this time. Roberta, Emilia and Tigre each say a few words. Roberta thanks everyone for coming here and (lies that) this will be the saddest day of her life. Emilia thanks Ignacio and says he did a lot of good. Finally, Tigre tells him to rest in peace. Some musicians come in and start playing the violin. Roberta tells them to stop and to respect their pain; who invited them anyway? Tigre says he did because that's what Ignacio told him he wanted, but if she wants to, they can leave (LOTS of character changes from the OG...) Leo says they can stay. They start playing again.
Tigre, Zaira, Emilia, Seb, Gael and Nico are talking about Ignacio and the good he did. Leo comes too, Nico runs to him. He gives Seb his job back, because they have to be united at these times. Meanwhile, Roberta, Mau and Sara are looking at them and gossiping about Leo approaching them. Ugh.
We get a bunch of scenes thrown at us as the days pass; some kids praying for Ignacio the night of the (formal) funeral; Ignacio's fancy grave (when I die, I want to buried in that kind of grave) and Emi with Tigre leaving flowers on it; Leo running and screaming his lungs out; Roberta throwing Ignacio's stuff, but mostly his pills, out of the window (Leo was walking outside and I thought the objects would hit him in the head. They didn't, but it would have been nice comic relief LOL); Marijó, living in a tiny wooden house outside and getting hugged by Joaquina and Leo; and Tigre... Practicing his archery and being happy? Uh, one of these things is not like the others, can you guys spot it? I wonder which one it is! It's SO hard to choose!
Días despues... (Days later...)
Sara and Jenny are waiting outside of the room where Ignacio's testament is read. Sara tells Jenny it's better if they leave, she doesn't want to.
Ignacio, instead of having written a will, has made a will-video. Yay! He begins by saying he thinks it would have been cold to just leave them a written will, so he made a video instead.
He addresses each one of them. First, Mau; he says he knows his virtues outdo his bad qualities (I wouldn't be so sure about that, bud. Have you heard him whine?) Then, Roberta; he says he loved her and thanks her for giving him hope to form a new family and then adds that illusions help people advance LOL. This guy is literally trolling them from the grave. Afterwards, Joaquina; he says he owes her everything in his house being perfect and he hopes she stays in the family. Later on, Marijó; he wanted to give her a second mother: he was wrong. She doesn't have to feel obliged to love anyone, only the good deserve love. Damn, dude, FINALLY! Although, objectively, you were kinda late (pun intended) in telling all this, you know, a little bit: you DIED first. Lastly, Leo; he says he's happy he can call him son and starts listing his good qualities; he's an example of integrity, a good man, who loves with his big heart without discriminations.
The will that shocked us to death! - Part 2/4
Roberta, angry, asks if all this is actually in the will. We get to the juicy part at last; who gets what. Ignacio says he made his decision based on each one's qualities.
Joaquina will get a monthly allowance that will allow her to live respectfully for the rest of her life. "Work because you want to, woman, not because you have to" (Trabaja por gusto, mujer, no porqué lo necesites), Ignacio says. Mauricio will get a trust linked to the mine; every month a quantity of the mines' profit will go to his bank account. Ignacio says he hopes he understands what happens if there are no profits. Oops. Mau is preparing to go Whine Mode: On again, although this time he won't get interrupted. He hits his hand on the table in front of him. Roberta will get the same with Mau, with a few changes to the quantity. "¿COMO?" (WHAT?), screams Roberta. Leo will be Marijó's executor (legal: the person designated by a testator to fulfill and execute the directions of the will - interesting) until she is of age, because he's leaving everything to Leo and Marijó, "mis hijos" (my kids).
"Surely my decision will surprise you", he continues. "I don't need to justify my decision, but you, my dear wife, you're one of the reasons why and you know this very well." He then thanks Roberta for the happiness she gave him some day and for his two sons. He tells her she's free now. Roberta mutters "not the freedom I wanted". (In the OG, Marcelo ("Ignacio" here) didn't leave a will. Antonia ("Roberta") got what she wanted in the very first episode. The interesting part is that in the OG, Antonia said that she's finally free and owner of her life when he died, while in this one Roberta said the exact opposite.) Ignacio is unstoppable today: he says that if Roberta and Mau are smart, they'll help Leo. He also tells Leo he leaves him responsible for Emilia and Tigre, who were also basically family. This is the end of the will. (Hold up, so he made a whole will-video and didn't edit it to add Emilia's share instead of writing her a letter? Beanie tightening...)
Mau screams ¡MALDITO! with all his power. Leo tells him to calm down.
Outside, Sara and Jenny hear the screaming and start listening.
Things heat up quickly inside:
Mau: Ignacio left us in the street.
Leo: That's not true, he left us protected.
Mau: Of course, you say that because he made you filthy rich (te dejó podrido en dinero - literally "he left you filthy rich")! You're a hypocrite!
Jenny goes to enter, Sara grabs her and tells her that's a family matter and she shouldn't get involved. Jenny says they're basically family. Sara asks her if she got back together with Mau, Jenny replies that no, but they'll get married. Sara asks her "he has been left unprotected (no money) and you still want to marry him?" (Don't forget everybody, this is "empowered" and "independent" Sara Quintana). She adds that if their parents don't give them money they can't force them to get married. Jenny says she loves Mau (why? Just... Why?), she doesn't want him for his money. Sara tries to convince her he won't make her happy, but Jenny goes from defending to attacking and says she should leave Mau and start thinking what she'll do with Emilia Sánchez. It's obvious that Leo is in love with that miner. That shuts Sara up.
The will that shocked us to death! - Part 3/4
Emilia is with Seb. She tells him Nico didn't sleep well last night with everything that happened. "Why do good people always have to die?" she rhetorically asks. Because evil people poison them, Viewerville answers. Emi informs Seb they'll give him back all the money he gave them for Tigre's release, Seb says it's not needed but Emi insists, he has his parents to take care of. She says that they'll get the money from the collateral back and pay him. Seb tells her to pay to get her house back instead and adds that they're his family. Emi asks him where did he get that much money and Seb claims he got a loan (a far-fetched idea, but I'll say it anyway because this is a telenovela: is it possible that Sara paid him to separate Emi and Leo or something? He had a semi-weird expression on his face when he mentioned a loan.) Emi freaks out a bit. Seb diverts her attention to something else: he knows it's not the appropriate time, but what does she feel for Leonardo Santamaría? (You're right, dude. It's NOT the right time.)
Mau and Leo continue their fight (I'll write out the dialogue, I think it's better than describing it because it's a big one):
Leo: Mauricio, this isn't the time to fight. It's what dad wanted.
Mau: And he forgot to say that he was MY dad too. It's my right to enjoy all these products of MY work and I warn you that I'll challenge the will.
Leo: Stop being ridiculous (he actually said "circo", a circus) in a moment so painful, will you? This is your fault.
Mau: You're going to pay-
Leo: Please, calm down, brother!
Mau: I'M NOT YOUR BROTHER!
And of course, Roberta starts talking. I wonder whose side she'll take LOL
Roberta: Why are you doing this, Leonardo?
Leo: What do you mean, I'M doing this?
Mau: If you're a man, don't accept the inheritance. (Did he hit his head when he was a kid or something? Why is he so stupid?)
Roberta: You're [Leo] not understanding of your brother. (WHAT?) He's suffering.
Leo: Well, I'M suffering too, but it looks like you don't care at all.
And Marijó has had enough:
Mar: STOP! I gift you [Mau] my inheritance. I don't care about the money (but he does, girl, that's why you SHOULDN'T give him your inheritance), I just want my dad to come back.
Roberta: That's impossible. (Really? Wow, thanks for the info, we didn't know! We thought he'll just jump out of his grave whenever he wants!)
Mar: If that's making you [plural you, Mau and Roberta?] happy, then take it, but stop fighting.
Leo: Please, Marijó-
Mar: I don't want to talk to you, I don't want to talk to anyone!
Roberta: Your pain is very big. (HUGS her, that hipócrita.)
After Marijó leaves, Roberta starts bullying Leo to make him go back to the capital. Mau threatens him that this won't stop here and they leave. Joaquina tells Leo that Roberta didn't want to hurt him, she's suffering too. After Leo leaves, Joaquina says "perdóname, mi hijo" (forgive me, my son - doesn't mean that Leo is her son, although that would have been a nice twist).
Seb says that something changed from the day the mine collapsed between her and Leo. Emi flashbacks to the hand holding and "souls being tied for eternity" part, but claims nothing happened and she doesn't feel anything for him. He (Seb) knows her story (the real one though?). He says he does and that's why he asked her about Seb, he doesn't want her to get hurt again.
Zaira and Tire talk about Ignacio and his death.
Roberta stops being nice to Marijó; she's going to Canadá tomorrow, whether she likes it or not, because life goes on. Marijó wants to go outside, Roberta even prohibits that because a reporter might see her, what?! After Roberta leaves, Marijó sees a message from Gael "how are you? Do you want to see me?" I think. She writes back something I didn't see (long story, technical problems again) and Gael replies with "look outside your window". She goes there and here he is!
The will that shocked us to death! - Part 4/4
Roberta is thinking of Ignacio telling her she won't be a Patrona anymore but Emilia will and of the reading of his testament. She starts throwing stuff around the room and screams like a loca. Geez, overeating much?
Emi talks to the Virgin Mary. She says she has a feeling Roberta had something to do with Ignacio's death. Nico comes home (by himself? Isn't Seb usually the one who picks him up?). He says something about Leo being his dad again and Emi says he can't be his dad AGAIN. He then asks about Seb, will he be his dad? Emi just says he loves them very much and hugs him.
Leo and Orlando are talking. Orlando says Ignacio left him the mines because he knew he'd manage them better, Leo says Mau has worked there more and Orlando is generally in favor of Leo. Leo tells him that's how his biological father died too and we get a flashback. A young Leo seeing his father driving his car, suddenly crashing it. Since Roberta said something about Ignacio dying of a heart attack, I assume Leo's dad died of a "heart attack" too (in quotation marks because you never know with Roberta...). He says this shouldn't have happened while he was here; he came to help him, not to see him die! They talk about Tigre being in jail; Orlando says it's normal that Ezequiel is a witness, since he found Tigre, but what's weird is that he informed Roberta. He gives Leo Tigre's lawyer's information.
Mau is drinking. Roberta tells him they won't challenge the will, that would be stupid; the best thing they have to do is something silently, so the enemy won't have time to defend themselves. She keeps insisting that he should marry Jennifer.
Adalberto is talking to the phone with someone about the importance of family, while entering his mistress's house. Irony. She holds some baby clothes. Adalberto suddenly gets very pale, but Miriam (the mistress) says he shouldn't worry, it's for some Doña Berta from the bakery. She asks him if it would be a problem if they had a baby one day. He says she should get these ideas out of her head and they kiss.
Roberta manages to convince Mau about the marriage, she says it'll give them a lot of money and they can give Adalberto her contacts. She adds that she wasn't always rich, but she always managed to do what she wanted. (Interesting - the OG villain would have never been caught dead admitting she was poor when she was young to anyone. She once told her grandson about it, but she knew he was asleep, so she was mostly talking out loud.) She continues: she'll ruin Ignacio's image, she'll ruin everything Ignacio has done.
Marijó and Gael are in the wooden house. He tries to cheer her up about her father's death, but no luck. They hug.
Emilia gives Patricio some work about the collapsed area. Sara comes and they fight. She says it's weird she came back to work that fast; isn't she mourning? Emi replies that mourning isn't just wearing black; she's working because her godfather would want her to. Sara basically thinks Emi came back to work so fast to be close to Leo and warns her; she should back off. Emi tells her people like her make her want to slap them, Sara replies she's not afraid of her. Emi tells her she should be and leaves.
Jenny is in her house when Mau comes and asks her to be novios again. Berta, who's in the background, smiles like she got a second birthday.
Leo fights with Seb. Seb wants him away from Emi (and that was so random, especially because Leo was trying to help him with the signature "misunderstanding"). Things heat up quickly and we get a fistfight between them! Emilia comes, sees them and is shocked.
And with the fistfight and Emilia's shocked expression, we have the Fin del Capítulo.
'Thinks of them as her children' and yet 'will forgive them just this once'. I thought 'like her children' bit meant forgiveness without that particular condition. In reality she thinks of them as her employees so it feels a bit insincere to declare she practically considers them her kids.If I were her, I'd worry that Felipa is affraid of telling me she's being blackmailed and lament the fact I let Imelda into my house. I think the way her servants see Martina feels at times almost slavish. I don't know how to describe it, but I often feel uncomfortable when I have to listen to them talking about how great she is.
Why did what Martina said suddenly had such an impact on Imelda? I don't get it. So will now she suddenly be nice because 'I want to be different'? The change in her behaviour was never going to be convincing.
Poor Ceci. She will end up raising that child alone. Paula will talk about supporting her and so on but the truth is that ceci will be on her own because Paula has her own family. Mexican telenovelas always have this theme of kids being the best thing ever which keeps irritating me more and more. And if she 'isn't sure about wanting kids', shouldn't the theme be that you do have to be sure. Paula did say it's a decision, but then it appearsIgnacio's wish just became Cecilia's too, which is no good. She walks on tip toe around him and now they are having kids?
Poor Fernando. Ignacio at one point talked about no one caring about him or being a monster, but the problem is he himself doesn't care enough about people who do care about him. He threw Fernando under the bus and pretty much wants Cecilia to agree with whatever he does. So is the point here that a person can be so damaged that no amount of therapy will help? Where is his therapist btw? He finds it especially hard to control his anger. I shudder to think what would happen if he got angry at his child because swearing you won't be like your stepfather isn't enough when violence is all you saw. Irma really ruined Ignacio's chances.
The baby's name made me think of all those crazy names I've heard. Rogelio might show his love for Paula by agreeing with this crazy name, but the child is the one who will have to live with it, not Paula. I think Jazz was a bit too much for me.
Gracias, Jarifa.
I think that Fernando is finally facing the music for his toxic envy of Rogelio, but the blame for it all still goes back to Martina for her favoritism and possible parentification of Rogelio after Hipolito's death. As for Ignacio he still can't see that not even Martina knew of his existence until he and his insane mother came back to Morelia.
Ignacio's abusive stepfather, however, bears most of the responsibility for his mental health issues and Irma the rest. Hard to tell though because we don't know how much of her mental health issues could have predated her marriage.
It's true that we usually repeat some form of parental abuse even if we try not to.
I don't think Ignacio can ever be normal.
As to Felipa and her husband I often wonder what happens to servants who lose their jobs, especially if they have no relatives. That has to be a very precarious existence.
Gracias, Weirdo.
I suspect that Ignacio was planning to revise his will and the video but just didn't have time to finish that. It's also a bad thing that there is no documentation about the gold mine. This will be the prime conflict for the rest of the story the second anyone else knows about the gold. If only Tigre could get out of town and sell it before anyone else sees it, but that might present legal problems.
Roberta, Sara, and Jennifer are birds of a feather. They boast of their "independence" while being willing -- eager -- to marry for money. I can't think of a word bad enough to call them.
Sebastian is a good guy but neither handsome nor commanding enough to be the galan.
More corrupt cops. Are there any that aren't?
Weirdo, this was an incredible, mesmerizing recap. I wanted to cut and paste everything!!
"Why do good people always have to die?" she rhetorically asks. Because evil people poison them, Viewerville answers” was wry and witty.
“Damn, dude, FINALLY! Although, objectively, you were kinda late (pun intended) in telling all this, you know, a little bit: you DIED first” was the mother lode. Perfect!
Loved the serenade during the funeral and the candlelight vigil even more.
Thrilled Ignacio did a video will. There were no real surprises but it was a bit satisfying seeing Roberta chastised and left so little. I also loved “(Trabaja por gusto, mujer, no porqué lo necesites)”.
Loathe the two sisters!! “Don't forget everybody, this is "empowered" and "independent" Sara Quintana)” was exactly right.
Marijó’s life size doll house was amazing!
The second we latched onto sweet Sebas as a potential rival for Emilia's affections, the writers have done nothing but try to discredit him.
Leo and Emilia are slowly building a connection but there are many impediments to overcome.
Mau is an oxygen waster.
Weirdo, just wonderful -thank you.
Diana
Thanks once again Jarifa. I love reading your recaps.
I liked the way Martina handled Felipa’s confession. It was good to see Imelda put in her place. I knew she had said something about the baby could end up like her but didn’t know it was envy. Imelda seemed to change immediately, which I find hard to believe. If she really does change I will have a tough time accepting and liking her.
I thought Carmela wanted to make Ignacio transport drugs. But he is willing to let the drugs be discovered to help Ignacio. Either they are better friends than I thought or the money was good enough to change Carmelo’s plans.
I hope Cecelia doesn’t get pregnant. She needs to leave Ignacio. She seems to know he wants to hurt Rogelio and the family. She must know that will affect Paula too. Ignacio is right that she does need to choose which side she is on.
Loved Fidel coming home to his clothes outside. Glad he persevered!
Didn’t understand Beatriz. She took the presidency from Martina. So Martina has decided to run against her. Good. Beatrice is why Imelda is the way she is. And Imelda did revert back to her old self when she was with her mother. Ignacio is hurting her too!
The trunk scene was fun. Everyone enjoying family.
Liz
Thank you Weirdo! Your recaps are wonderful and I love your humor. I still haven’t watched but I read the recaps and I am actually shocked by the will!!! I thought for sure Roberta would have that angle covered!!! I expected to hear Roberta gets everything and then have to wait through 80ish episodes of torture for someone to discover the real will!!
Even if Marijo wants to give Mau her inheritance technically she can’t. Since Leo was given responsibility for Marijo’s share of the inheritance she can’t make that decision until she comes of age, Leo would have to agree to it now and I am sure he wouldn’t.
I can’t decide who the Roberta actress reminds me of, and it’s not herself because I haven’t seen anything else she’s done. I keep getting flashes of someone else and it’s bugging me. She actually looks a little like Aracely Arambula which is off putting since Aracely played the Emilia (Gabriela) role in the original.
Thank you Jarifa, I am behind on everything and will continue to be through tonight since it’s Thursday night Football, but I am off tomorrow so time to catch up then!
It would be interesting if Imelda truly grew up like everyone else but I am sure that won’t happen.
Weirdo...wow..what a great way to start the day....your recap. I find it amazing that I get my laughs from so many miles away in addition to finding out the dialogue. I am still laughing over your " my dude" in another of your snappy recaps. Just add some music and dancing and coffee and " Hello, Thursday."
My favorite scene was the two teens in the elaborate play House . ..so endearing . Young love in a playhouse . We have a small play house in the backyard , but you could fit several of them into that beautiful, elaborate play house . Whoever decided to shoot that scene there was clever.
We get to see Cesar in all his charm and grace in that video . Is that the last time we will see him? Tigre and his slingshot .
Seb. Oswaldo. On your marks. Get set. Go. You, too, I guess ,fuming Mau.
Wrestling match in the mine . okay.
Good luck to all the football fans . I always feel sorry for those guys because every guy I know who played sports lives with aches and pains forever after ...knees, shoulders .
Perhaps I'm on TN overload but I thought Cecilia was already pregnant. I must have confused that with the thousands of others with child in this TN! :)
Can Imelda change? Does she even want to?? I'll believe it when I see it.
Liz, I didn't realize Eva had already thrown Fidel's clothes out of the house! Thank you for that. I'm so happy the birth was uneventful...
waterlily, "I think the way her servants see Martina feels at times almost slavish. I don't know how to describe it, but I often feel uncomfortable when I have to listen to them talking about how great she is" was well said. They are indeed very devoted. That said, Martina did forgive Felipe and did so quickly and for her, a bit heartfelt (refusing to hug her aside :). So, at least the feelings are somewhat reciprocated.
"I often wonder what happens to servants who lose their jobs, especially if they have no relatives. That has to be a very precarious existence". I hadn't thought of that Urban but that is an excellent point. Where would they go? What would they do??
Diana
Jarifa, thank you for another wonderful report from the couch . You gave us every moment of an interesting episode with Fernando and Imelda stirring the pot. They are both studies in envy and malice.
Love Fidel . He seemed to be telling his freaked out bride all about each cake he brought her . He always makes me smile . He is so sincere and loyal .
Martina Handing out the baptismal gowns , tiny booties, bunnies, and games was like a merry Christmas morning.
Loved Marco delightedly cuddling his old bunny . Every kid had a favorite beloved toy. The book " The Velveteen Rabbit" always makes me cry. When a child loves you enough, you become real.
Wow, Martina is everywhere , all the time , listening and judging . She has shown Imelda and Beatriz that she truly is the Monarch , the queen mariposa\papillon\farashi. So glad she overheard Felipa and released her from Imelda's blackmail and abuse . yay .
Funny how Fernando's affair made a inside decide to be a femme fatale and seduce him , but now he has been arrested .
Looks like Aunt Patti is jealous , but I think she will win Ulises. Rog will have to get used to him at the family cookouts.
Fernando is pure evil at this point and Fernando is paying for his trust in him .
Diana, "The only enjoyable moments were Fidel and Eva. Fidel, trying to tempt Eva into forgiveness by holding the tempting pastries as a peace offering and then of course another baby." I so appreciate any time we see Eva and Fidel or any of the staff. We need breaks from the high drama! As for not being able to keep track of who is pregnant and who is not, you are not the only one who is having problem.
waterlily, "it appearsIgnacio's wish just became Cecilia's too, which is no good. She walks on tip toe around him and now they are having kids?" Cecilia always seems to be a bit illogical to me like telling Paula about what Ignacio said in line at Fer's reception which just got Paula more upset since she had nothing more to tell her. She doesn't make sense. Bad enough she is still married to Ignacio, but why would you want to drag another human being into that situation. Let us hope she thinks better of it and doesn't end up pregnant not matter what Ignacio now wants.
Urban, "I don't think Ignacio can ever be normal." and I think that is going to turn him into a tragic figure in this story. As for the servants, that is a very good question. Do they find openings by word of mouth or what?
Liz," I thought Carmela wanted to make Ignacio transport drugs. But he is willing to let the drugs be discovered to help Ignacio. Either they are better friends than I thought or the money was good enough to change Carmelo’s plans." Funny how quickly plans can change among thieves when big bucks are involved. If Carmelo has truly left town as Ignacio told him to, that will close down another loose end of which there were not too many to begin with.
Darcy, it is so exciting that football season is starting again! I look forward to your comments when you have caught up.
Susan, "Martina Handing out the baptismal gowns , tiny booties, bunnies, and games was like a merry Christmas morning" That scene was so much fun. "Looks like Aunt Patti is jealous , but I think she will win Ulises. Rog will have to get used to him at the family cookouts." Now, that would be even MORE fun!
Weirdo, your humour is just amazing. I'll be sure to need it when I'm in a bad mood.
I was astonished Seb paid both for the lawyer and the fiansa (I seem to have forgotten the English word for this). But they just had to ruin this by implying his money isn't exactly a prestamo. Why? Nico all of a sudden getting so attached to Leo (I keep writing Leon and then having to delete the n) was weird too. I'm not a fan of this here because Sebas has been here for longer and it feels as though they want to throw out his relationship with Nico or at least make Sebas second best.
My jaw dropped when it turned out Ignacio didn't leave Roberta everything. I was absolutely convinced the plot will be about him not having enough time to change the will and was dreading this. I was also wondering about the original so thanks for mentioning it.
When Marijo wanted to give her money to Mauricio, I wanted to scream. It's a good thing he can't marry her, otherwise they'd end up losing quite a bit of money. Can Roberta make Marijo go to Canada against her will? Is Leonardo only responsible for the execution of Ignacio's will on behalf of Marijo and not her legal guardian? So who's responsible for her? Shouldn't Ignacio have mentioned it too?
Sebas quickly joined the jealousy camp. When Leonardo asked,'what's your problem' or something along these lines, I was like'I'd have asked the same thing.' It just feels so random when a guy whom you're actually trying to help approaches you and starts demanding you stay away from his girlfriend. I'm guessing it's supposed to be obvious for Seb to start noticing something's going on, but still.
I can never understand how all these empowered women don't realise it's pathetic to go and demonstrate all your insecurities to your rival. The problem with 'bad' ladies in these telenovelas is that they make them so obsessive and desperate to 'get the man' that it can be hard to watch them.
Roberta wants Mauricio to marry...what's her name? Jenifer! I nearly forgot. But what is her plan exactly? She can ruin Ignacio's image, but how would she get 'what's hers'?She most probably hasn't read a fairytale where a man wanted to have as much money as the richest man in the twon. So he and the man played cards and he won all that man's money and ended up having empty pockets. Ignacio's line about 'remember what happens if the mine doesn't bring any profit' reminded me of this.La patrona y el patron are either very dumb or have such a good plan that no one can guess it because ruining something that gives them income sounds a bad idea.
Waterlily, hmmmm...ruining the business is like killing the goose that lays the golden eggs , a fairytale warning . We are seeing Fernando doing the sane thing in " Eternamente." I suppose the message is that revenge and avarice usually backfires . Dig two graves ????
Another thing I forgot to add is that Mauricio demanding Leo should erfuse to accept the inheritance and Roberta adding he doesn't sympathise with brother's suffering was so funny and jaw-droping. Does Roberta herself even know what the hell she means by that. Since when suffering due to greed is supposed to be a sympathy-worthy thing? This wouldn't have been half as funny if itwasn't obvious to everyone that Mauricio didn't even like Ignacio.
Fine job, Jarifa.
With Fernando arrested, Imelda's got a chance to show Viewervile what she'll do to try to save him. Will she challenge Ignacio? Or will she do the same old thing, blame Paula.
Squee, another baby born. Looking forward to seeking Eva and Fidel's baby skills.
Thanks so much everyone!
I'm actually watching the football (soccer) game I mentioned earlier, but since we're playing like beheaded geese and are losing 3 to 0 (100% fairly, tbh we should have been losing 10 to 0 with the performance today), I'll respond to everyone now.
Urban, I agree with everything you wrote. I guess Ig just didn't have time to add Emilia's part... And maybe Orlando will not be corrupt (or so I hope).
Diana, I agree with everything, but I especially loved "The second we latched onto sweet Sebas as a potential rival for Emilia's affections, the writers have done nothing but try to discredit him." and "Mau is an oxygen waster". LOL so true.
Darcy, I also can't believe la patrona didn't get what she wanted. Surely she, la patrona, should have taken precautions. Because la patrona will always be a patrona and no one can challenge that. Sorry, my mood is horrible so I thought I should just troll Roberta.
Great point about Marijó being unable to give her inheritance. Thankfully, Leo would never agree to this.
Susan, I also really liked Évora here, it's actually the first time I see him in anything. I totally bought Ignacio and Évora played so naturally.
Waterlily, ITA about Nico and Seb's relationship. How did the kid get so attached to him in so little time? I think I need to write that the OG Nico, David, hated the galán in La Patrona at first. It took time for him to accept it and I think that was better writing.
Yes, the Marijó bit was weird. So Ignacio assigned Leo as the executor but not as a guardian? ¿Qué? So, la patrona is her guardian but Leo is the one who handles the money? Why? I'm also confused (again).
"It just feels so random when a guy whom you're actually trying to help approaches you and starts demanding you stay away from his girlfriend." IKR?
I could easily copy-paste your second to last paragraph. ITA with everything.
I laughed at this: "La patrona y el patron are either very dumb or have such a good plan that no one can guess it because ruining something that gives them income sounds a bad idea" LOL I vote for the former.
Susan, "ruining the business is like killing the goose that lays the golden eggs" was exactly right! What are they thinking?
"Since when suffering due to greed is supposed to be a sympathy-worthy thing?" Please, Waterlily, she's la patrona, remember? She's always right, how dare we question la patrona? (*sarcasm*)
All three of these tales have characters consumed with greed, power, and toxic envy and/or jealousy. This has been an ongoing theme in morality tales since back in the days when most people were illiterate.
Which was not as long ago as we think.
Minas 7
I believe that Leo had the authority over Marijo's inheritance. If she doesn't have any control over it until she's 18 she can't sign it away. Leo is a smart dude and won't let his guard down. I also don't think that Mexican inheritance law dictates how much one needs to bequeath to a surviving spouse or adult child. Had there been no will, however, the courts would decide the distribution.
How much dinero did Roberta get when her previous husband died? I don't think he was poor.
"...since we're playing like beheaded geese and are losing 3 to 0" had me laughing out loud Wierdo!! I hope they redeem themselves before the game ends :)
Diana
