Greetings from the comfy cozy couch!
THE DEAL
Olimpia recognizes that Martina has come to negotiate her authorization to sell the property. She states that considering her own reputation and the mess the Iturbide family is in, that it would be best if the press remain unaware of the fact that they are related. She agrees to negotiate the sale of the property with one condition. Martina needs to move to Mexico City. She has a vacant apartment under her own. Martina says that Olimpia knows that she cannot stand being around her. Olimpia says "Precisely! " When her family is no longer in the press, they will talk about negotiating an agreement.
When Rogelio becomes aware of where his mother is and what she has agreed to do, he is not happy because he thought they were going to deal with Olimpia all together as a family. Martina brushes him off and says it is good to keep your friends close and your enemies closer. He gives in and the family prepares to move to Mexico City.
A NEW JOB AND ANOTHER NEW CHARACTER
José Juan, who Rogelio tried to talk to in the last episode, calls Rogelio the next day and tells him that he has a job for him. He would like him to work on a project for him to help expand his transportation company to the national level. Rogelio happily accepts.
THE MOVE
Everyone is going to move to Mexico City except for Marco, Blanca and Luis. Micaela and Honorio want to still work for them not knowing if they will be paid or not. Rogelio tells Honorio that when things are good again, he will help him support his people again.
Lucas throws a tantrum when he finds out that he is moving to Mexico City. Rogelio tries to explain that out is going to be a better job for him and a better life for Lucas but Lucas isn't interested. Later, Rogelio gets a call from Pati saying that she talked to Lucas and the bad way he was feeling was getting to her. She suggests that Lucas stay with her for a few days and she can help lighten his mood. Rogelio says he will talk to Paula and think about it. Paula agrees with Pati. She tells Rogelio that Lucas has been through many major changes in his life recently and that they are expecting him to react like an adult but he is still a child. Rogelio is all about keeping the family together and Lucas not being rewarded for his tantrums but Paula talks him into letting Lucas go with Pati for just a few days.
When the family gets to Mexico City, they find the apartment filled with old mannequins. Martina is sure Olimpia is sending her a message. Paula thinks it just needs a good cleaning. Imelda likes it with its more prestigious postal code and knowing that Fernando is going to be there with them. Rogelio promises his mother that he will get Villa Morelia back for her.
FERNANDO ON A SOLO MISSION
Fernando is to be released the very afternoon of the day that the Iturbides have arrived in Mexico City. Little do they know that Fernando was released earlier in the morning so when they all appear at the jail to pick him up, he is long gone. Imelda wonders if he went back to Cuitzeo since he didn't know about Olimpia or the move to Mexico City. Rogelio and Imelda are both worried he is going to go back to Morelia and go after Ignacio. Marco manages to track Fernando to Morelia by talking to a friend at a bus company. He tells Rogelio who says he is on his way and for him not to get involved in anything without him.
Fernando charges his phone and sees that family members have been trying to reach him. He doesn't contact anyone but heads to Villa Morelia.
At Villa Morelia, Ignacio is on the floor drunk, despondent and drinking even more as he cries. He is telling "Cecilia" that he won't let her take his child away from him. Felipa sees him and prays for him.
Fernando enters Villa Morelia and grabs Ignacio around the neck and in tears starts to recite everything that Ignacio did to him and his family. He had come to love Ignacio as a brother. Ignacio tries to use his mother and his step-father as an excuse. Fernando tells Ignacio he is worse than his mother; he is a piece of garbage. Rogelio arrives and calls Melitón to open the gate to save ignacio's life. A fist fight ensues. Fernando gets the better of Ignacio and starts to kick him over and over again below the belt and in the nether regions. Rogelio and Marco enter Villa Morelia and witness the beating in progress.
EVERYTHING ELSE
PATI tells Ulises that she is going to have Lucas stay with her in Morelia because he is so happy with her. Ulises thinks that is a bit drastic. He knows she loves Lucas but she has no legal right to him. He should be with his father. Pati thinks that Lucas is old enough to make up his own mind. Ulises thinks that she is taking advantage of the situation. Ulises decides it is better that he leave.
EVA drops the baby off at the restaurant so Fidel can take care of him. She reminds him that she has a doctor appointment and that the plan was for him to take care of the baby. When he looks dismayed, she tells him that is what it is like being a working mother.
MARCO thinks that he is helping Blanca when he goes to see his ex-girlfriend Jenni's mother who has connections in the interior design business and also likes to have her own home redecorated. He arranges for Blanca to meet what her. Blanca is mortified when she sees Jenni's photo and realizes whose house she is in. Jenni's mother likes Blanca's portfolio and thinks she might be able to help her with a couple of her rooms. Blanca tells Marco off when he gets home.
CECILIA tells Ale that she has not reached a decision yet. (About what , they didn't say. ) They are outside at what looks like an impromptu music school set up.( If anyone understands what is going on with the music school, please let us know. ) Ignacio has come by talk to Cecilia. Ale gets in is face telling him he won't get near Cecilia . Ignacio says that is up to Cecilia. He is a civilized man and knows how to behave. He asks Cecilia if he is going to be a father. She barely nods. He will not allow his child to be without a father. He will not let his child suffer like he did. He wants his child to grow up surrounded by her love and his love as a family, all together. . . only that. After this interaction, he starts to stalk her.
MARTINA brings Gabriel up to date on her situation. He invites her to spend the night at his apartment.
ANDREA and Luis are back together again. They don't want to tell anyone until they are sure. They start to kiss. Gabriel sees them. He gives Luis two minutes to leave.
That is all I got. Please feel free to add anything I left out.
Rogelio saying Lucas shouldn't be rewarded for his tantrums was funny considering Rogelio himself throws jealousy tantrums every chance he gets. For someone who is so good with people, Rogelioshows very little understanding of his own son's feelings. I find this a bit surprising, but maybe it fits with Rogelio being rather selfish at certain points. I guess it's a good thing he didn't say 'it's difficult for me too'.
Ignacio is a fool. I still can't believe he destroyed the only good family relationship he had. His explanations sounded crazy. I know it's supposed to be like this but I thought I'd hear something that would make me think that from his perspective this craziness makes sense.
I'm disappointed that Luis and Andrea are back together. Andrea, unlike Paula, didn't likethe fact that Luis had to get involved in the family drama. I don't see how this relationship is supposed towork or even be a good idea if their way of life is unacceptable to her. I find this couple kind of boring in general. So has Luis forgotten Paula? I sometimes get a feeling the writers put in scenes with these two when they remember they need to tell about them too. It's a pity Luiscan't end up with Ceci. When is there going to be a romance in a telenovela that I can actually enjoy?
Ver busy again, some Wikipedia - Univisión highlights (combined):
Mauricio keeps attacking Leonardo for being named Ignacio's heir.
Emilia takes Nico to the doctor because of his stomach pain and the doctor shows her what is really wrong with him.
Leonardo accepts to Emilia how much he loves her and as she admits to feeling the same, they kiss.
Roberta finds the place where Marijó and Gael are hiding. She gives Marijó a tranquilizer and some thugs beat up Gael.
Berta suspects Adalberto of cheating.
(I'll write a recap for today's episode though.)
Episode 33: Part 1 of 2
Maria Teresa insisted on doing the numbers for the following month and would not talk about the canceled wedding.
The book club meeting started with Adriana giving out gifts and continued with nasty comments about Maria Teresa.
Maria Teresa finished off the numbers and told Santos she had sold the apartment. If they can't fill the order for the next month they are finished. He met with Bernarda who said the cows were getting better and had no infections.
The dress Adriana bought for Norma was about as sexy as a potato sack. The other women made it their business to insult Maria Teresa to her face on the assumption that she boinked Marco. [My theory of the moment is that Adriana envies Maria Teresa's full ownership of her property and her past life of privilege.]
Valentina was not happy to hear that Maria Teresa did not marry the city slicker.
Maria Teresa spoke to Fabiola; all was well.
Adriana paid Rut a visit to tempt him.
Maria Teresa went to see Remedios and told her about the other women's treatment of her as in she was not welcome in Puerto Bravo. Remedios told her that her mother had named the ranch La Esperanza for a reason. [Like this is going to help?]
Rut went home. Norma talked about the possibility of them taking an anniversary trip. He mentioned he'd like Adriana to go with them. When she said she'd like it to be a romantic trip just for the two of them he said to cut the foolishness. [So much for marriage being forever.]
Genoveva asked Maria Teresa what happened with Aldo and she replied that he was dead to her,
Esteban's lawyer told him there was a lot of red tape before he was officially exonerated. This created more anxiety.
Santos and Valentina talked about recent events and he was sure these had been provoked. Valentina was ready to believe it was Maria Teresa's fault.
Maria Teresa tried to get Marco to sign documents regarding the money she owed him. She actually handed him a folder with documents that could backfire on her.
Bernarda was prepared to pay for the veterinary medications. She explained this to Regina.
Episode 33: Part 2 of 2
Marco finally took the file. Maria Teresa explained that the women of Puerto Bravo wanted her out. He used this as another reason for her to lose trust in her workers.
Valentina tried again to get Santos to be more optimistic.
Maria Teresa denied incompetence and other wrongs on the part of her employees and declined Marco's offer to run the show.
Adriana and Irasema watched from a distance and deduced that Marco was looking to seduce Maria Teresa.
Valentina was annoyed at the prospect of Maria Teresa losing trust in Santos.
Genoveva brought food to Maria Teresa's room but Maria Teresa only wanted to bathe and sleep. After Genoveva left the room a large spider appeared. Maria Teresa addressed the spider as Titi and told it it had to pull its own weight. It ran and hid. [Is this the one who made Aldo squeal like a child?]
The next morning Bernarda stayed close to the cows while Santos tried to get closer to Maria Teresa to no avail.
Valentina talked with Pepe obviously not knowing that he was the traitor in their midst.
Marcos went after Bernarda again.
Pepe tried to tell Valentina that it was all Maria Teresa's fault.
Norma put on her new dress [which at least had a waistline] and tried to persuade to have her bring his lunch to the office. He said he was too busy and left for work. Clemente had a better idea when Norma told him.
Marco tried his usual come-on with Bernarda but she rejected him, resisting her own feelings. She pushed him away/ Valentina saw this from a window and quickly ducked out of sight.
Maria Teresa told Santos that all was well despite the hostility of the town. He pointed out that she had the love of the land. [This started sounding like a scene from Gone With the Wind.]
Valentina approached Marco to confront him about his pursuit of her mother but he escaped before she could let him have it with both barrels.
Esteban talked with Armando. He was getting desperate to help Maria Teresa. Nani brought him his pills, then called his doctor.
In Rut's office he and Marco talked about Grim briefly. Then Marco bragged about having the deed to La Esperanza as guarantee of payment from Maria Teresa about the crops.
Valentina asked Santos how well he knew Marco and he told her he had a bad vibe about him. Maria Teresa saw them kiss and said not to waste company time.
I wasn’t able to watch anything last night so I will be catching up today and commenting later but I wanted to say while I am thinking about it, I recognized the actress playing Olimpia on Enternamente but I couldn’t place from where so I looked it up on IMDB and she was the Madre on Soltero con Hijas! I am enjoying her performance so far, I am betting she and Martina going head to head will give us lots of must see TV moments!
Thanks Jarifa, another great recap.
I can’t believe Pati thinks she should have Lucas. I’m glad Ulises told her his thoughts and then left. But I was surprised to see him, as last time Pati saw him he was with someone else.
Love Eva and Fidel. A normal relationship! Marco was pretty foolish in finding a job for Blanca. I wonder if she’ll do it. Is he that desperate to keep her from cleaning a house and being a companion to an older lady!
Micaela looks younger and prettier with her hair down. I hope she and Honorio will become more than friends!
They all seem to know people in the transportation industry. And there seems to be a few different companies.
Imelda would like a better zip code! She said she still hates Paula and Martina but she never mentioned Rogelio. I wonder what are feelings for him are. She sure didn’t like him in the early part of her marriage.
Can’t feel too much sympathy for Ignacio. What did he expect? I’m sure this was all Olimpia’s plan and Ignacio was doing what she told him to do. He may not be bright enough to have a plan of his own. Cecilia seems to weaken whenever he talks to her. She needs to go far away. He’ll hurt the baby eventually. He’s too messed up to change anytime soon.
Liz
Jarifa, another outstanding, wonderfully written summary. Your vivid descriptions were marvelous.
I was completely confused by the move (where one goes almost all follow), let alone whatever is going on with the temporary school.
Was I upset Fernando pummeled Ignacio into the ground? Nopis, particularly as we see Ceci is in mortal danger now.
Lucas has had a rough go of things, there’s no doubt. And while I agree with Rogelio that he should accompany the family; Paula’s suggestion Lucas stay with Pati was kindly made. The hair on my neck stood up a bit when Pati said Lucas is old enough to make up his mind and apparently Ulises agreed with me that he definitely is not. There’s something about Pati though that has always had me shying away from her. Nothing concrete, just a gut feeling.
Oh Marco, WHAT were you thinking?? Oh, you weren’t. Bad move dude.
Loved Eva bringing Fidel the baby at work. My favorite moment was when the baby was in the crib and Fidel smiled and started dancing toward the cradle. Alfredo Gatica has subtly made himself shine.
More checked shirts and beautiful plum silk blouse on Diana Bracho.
Who was the lovely but random dog?
Diana
Weirdo, thank you very much for the highlights, you captured what transpired.
Orlando was in several scenes looking very fine. Again, I'm lost in his looks so can't even remember what happened. :)
Gael is a child and it was hard watching him after he was beaten, lying on the ground under a tree. Drugging her own child? Roberta is a monster.
I like the way Emilia and Leo's love story is developing. Sweet and believable.
Diana
Urban, an insightful, intriguing summary of an episode that had my mind spinning in disbelief.
“Bernarda stayed close to the cows while Santos tried to get closer to Maria Teresa to no avail” is exactly right.
I could not believe Maria Teresa actually handed Marco the deeds. Reeling from Aldo’s treachery she blindly puts herself squarely in the clutches of Marco, whom she knows relatively nothing about?
Not only did Maria Teresa clam up, refusing to explain herself or her feelings to Santos, worse, she distanced herself from him professionally. Santos’ job is his life. If only she had discussed everything before handing Marco everything, lock stock and barrel.
At least Valentina is keeping her wits about her and sees for herself Marco has ill intentions toward Bernarda. Pepe is someone she has known and worked alongside so she can hardly be faulted for not suspecting him. Also, didn’t Rut demand that there would be “no witnesses” to what happened to the
cows?
“Norma talked about the possibility of them taking an anniversary trip. He mentioned he'd like Adriana to go with them”. And STILL no warning bells go off?? Norma is hopeless.
Diana
I agree; Norma is hopeless. I can't respect a woman who puts up with infidelities and can't see what is so obvious in Rut's intentions.
I need to add to a comment I made in the recap: Adriana would also envy Maria Teresa's comparative youth and her beauty. She has it all, including no need to depend on any man. I'm sure that other townie woman would also hold the same resentment.
Pepe is interested in Valentina but he's a rotten egg. If Clemente weren't so sheltered he'd be a great help to finding an age-appropriate guy for her. It looks like his main goal will be to rescue his mother.
Marco really knows how to play the long game.
Gracias, Jarifa. You are quite the long-distance runner!
How can any apartment be large enough to hold the entire Iturbide family? There used to be 9- and 10-room ones in NYC, but that was during The Gilded Age. Are there apartments like that in Mexico City? By my count they would need seven bedrooms for Martina and her family at this time, at least four would need en suite bathrooms, and what about the servants' quarters?
Pati seems to be obsessed with Lucas and we need to know why. While I agree that Lucas needs to be with family I think that Rogelio's apparent lack of understanding is due to not having raised him which we all know was not his fault.
For Fernando to go after Ignacio as he did is understandable but seriously foolhardy. This beating could land him in prison whether Ignacio lives or dies and it could also provoke other forms of revenge with Olympia as the mastermind.
Thank you Jarifa for the fabulous notes from your comfy couch! :)
I can understand Lucas not wanting to move again and I don't think staying with Aunt Pati for a few days would be such a bad thing if Aunt Pati wasn't thinking of keeping him period.
I too love Eva and Fidel! I am so glad we have them to break up the drama. Some of the looks on Felipa's face while she is hiding from/praying for/tending to Ignacio are pretty hilarious too.
I agree that Fernando going after Ignacio was foolhardy. He's a father with a young daughter and a baby on the way, his recent stint in jail should have clarified his priorities and made him smarter....I guess not.
Speaking of not smart, let's go to the ex's mom and ask for a pity job for the wife!!! LOL Oh Marco!
Thanks, Urban! Your recap is wonderful as always!
Wow, all the townswomen think they have a right to confront MT and call her names and tell her they don't want her kind in town just over some rumors and assumptions! Like she is going to turn tail and leave just because they say so? Like a bunch of high school mean girls!!!
I liked the pace of this when we first started but it feels a little stalled now. We need more obstacles in Marco's way too. The villain is of course going to rack up the wins in the beginning but even at that he's batting a 1000! Let's at least have some resistance.
So MT's apartment was only worth one month's worth of her contract?? And another lost month will cost her the ranch?? That's one very expensive contract!
Jarifa, thank you for every detail that you spotted from your couch.
The family is on the move again ...how unsettling .
It was good that Ulises stepped away from Patti when she started talking about Lucas since Rogelio has always been jealous of Ulises .
It was awful seeing Fernando unleash his wrath on Igy even though Igy deserved it. I hope Fernando doesnt wind up back in jail .
I will have to look up the actress playing Olympia because i have watched several Azteca telenovelas , so perhaps I have seen her and just didn't recognize her .
Is Fidel and Eva's baby a boy ? What did they name him? I fear that I am losing track of all these bebes . My friends and I had babies around the same time , about a equal number of boys and girls . We often got together as families when all the bebes were growing up . These bebes will be playmates .
Weirdo, thank you .
I like the scenes between Emilia and Leo. This time they had on matching jackets ...sweet. Olivia seems to be trying to be sweeter and warmer.
Nick wants a dad , and three guys seem to be competing for that honor ...two good guys and one bad one who seems to be his biological father ...and struggles with math.
Poor Gael. This young actor will someday be a handsome galan jf he decides to continue acting .
One more thing, Eva now wants to move to Mexico City because Paula is moving there so she told her newly hired husband to ask for a transfer because his boss owns many restaurants some of which are in Mexico City. Really EVA???? Not too bright. Anyway, Fidel said he would see what he could do.
Thanks, everyone for stopping by this Friday. I am so enjoying your comments.
Susan, yes, Eva and Fidel's baby is a boy. Name? I have no idea. If anyone else knows, please let the rest of us know. I'm not a kid and I would find it very unsettling to be moving one more time especially under these circumstances. "When is there going to be a romance in a telenovela that I can actually enjoy?" Excellent question! It seems they are few and far between, on my case, anyway.
Darcy, "Speaking of not smart, let's go to the ex's mom and ask for a pity job for the wife!!! LOL Oh Marco!" You called it. Nope, not very smart and so very immature. I would like to see how he turns out like ten years from now.
Urban, thanks! I am thinking that Olimpia owns the building or has bought up enough apartments/condos to redesign them and make them as large as she wants. Also, Luis and Marco are not coming. Guess we will have to wait to see how and if they all fit.
Diana, "There’s something about Pati though that has always had me shying away from her. Nothing concrete, just a gut feeling." ITA
Thank goodness that Fernando has been cleared so she cannot accuse them of being drug traffickers in a custody fight. "Alfredo Gatica has subtly made himself shine." I am so happy he has not been type cast as the thug anymore as he seemed to be for so many years.
Liz, "Cecilia seems to weaken whenever he talks to her. She needs to go far away. He’ll hurt the baby eventually. He’s too messed up to change anytime soon. " You put that perfectly. She has been lucky that Ale has been there with her to tell Ignacio what's what. Here is hoping she is strong enough to leave town for parts unknown. "Micaela looks younger and prettier with her hair down. I hope she and Honorio will become more than friends!" Would that not be a pleasant surprise?
waterlily, "Rogelio saying Lucas shouldn't be rewarded for his tantrums was funny considering Rogelio himself throws jealousy tantrums every chance he gets." You said it! One thing we can say about this novelal is that all of teh characters are flawed, some a lot more than the others. No pure heroes or heroines here.
WATERLILY, the last part of my response to you some how got pasted to the end of my response to SUSAN. I hope the rest of my day goes better than that!
Thanks, Urban, I am getting really frustrated with this telenovela. It continues along the same track. MT was used by Aldo and now Marco will take advantage of her. You’d think she would have trust issues by now! But no, she hands Marco the deed to her land.
The ladies in the town believe everything Adriana tells them. And then say things to MT’s face. Darcy nailed it, the mean girls in high school. At least we know they will eventually feel like fools!
I would have smacked my husband if he had said, let’s bring another woman, to a romantic weekend. He apparently thinks Adriana has the hots for him but she was a real tease in the office.
I was thinking Marco might be one of the girls’ dad. But maybe not. Bernarda seems attracted to him against her will.
At least Santos thinks the recent events have been planned by someone. Hopefully he’ll figure out who. Clemente was on the right track when he was asking about the river. We need some action from the good guys.
On a positive note, maybe we’ll never see Aldo again.
Liz
I have to say that if Rogelio's lack of understand as far as Lucas is concerned is because he didn't raise him, I'm surprised Paula does understand, concidering she didn't raise a child either. It feels as though Rogelio isn't even trying very hard as he only called this a tantrum. He reminds me way too much of the kind of men women complain about on forums.
waterlily, I think that Paula understands Lucas so much better because she grew up as an orphan. She knows what it is to have lost her parents. I do not see Rogelio as an evil man but a man who was raised very much as a traditional male with way too much responsibility and who, at times, has no idea of other ways he could act or react. He needs Paula to loosen him up. Yep, those kind of males are not popular today.
Thanks, Jarifa.
Oh my, Fernando looks like he's trying to kill Ignacio. I wanted only a couple of socks. I don't want to see Ignacio wind up in the hospital, largely because I don't want him to get Cecilia's sympathy.
Rogelio showed good sense telling Pati he would check with Paula about Lucas staying with her for a few days. Now Pati wants Lucas permanently? I don't get her either.
Rogelio's new boss played a scruffy-looking ranch-hand in La Herencia, but here he's turned out like a GQ cover.
Niecie, I have seen that actor Diego de Erice (José Juan) in so many novelas but I agree that he looks the best I have ever seen him here. Good call on Ignacio being able to get Cecilia's sympathy if he ends up in the hospital. I hadn't thought of that.
Pati may have been obsessed with Erica back in the day. She shows no real interest in men. Lucas is what's left of Erica.
I really wish the writers would be a little more explicit about the characters' ages. We know that Hipolito died 20 years ago but we don't know how old Rogelio was at the time or how much older he is than Marco, whom we know is 20 or 21. I have the impression that Rogelio may have been 20 or 21 at the time because who else could have run the family business? And how old is Ignacio?
BTW, I never bought Irma's insistence that Martina stole Hipolito from her. Her delusions were too many.
Niecie and Jarifa, it's amazing what clothes and a haircut can do. "GQ cover" is spot on Niecie.
I knew I recognized him but couldn't quite place him. Cornelio, you've come a long way baby.
Diana
People will believe what they want to believe. The uneducated always want to believe that the educated and/or the rich are all pretentious snobs who can't stand getting their feet wet or dirty. Yes, that was true in Aldo's case but he is not a valid example.
Many people who do manual labor hate those who have art supplies or briefcases. My college buddy was the victim of that kind of reverse snobbery from his in-laws. His brother-in-law had to pay his way through college at night because of this.
I personally used to wish that all beautiful women were stupid so I could feel superior. However I learned the hard way that this is certainly not always true.
Thanks so much Urban for the recap. I always look forward to them.
How dumb can MT be to give Marco the deed to her ranch. Hadn't she learned from he experiences with Aldo to be at least a little bit skeptical? I too think that Adrianna and the other ladies in the book club are jealous of her. I like the prior comments comparing them to mean high school girls.
I hope Santos will learn all that Marco is up to. Clemente seems to be one of the most clever, inquisitive people in Puerto Bravo.
I'm still anxiously waiting for the back story on Bernarda to come out. I also want Adrianna to be fully exposed.
With Nany getting Esteban his medicine and calling the doctor, is there a medical crisis or even death around the corner
Lester
Notes from the couch . . .
This is all a little disjointed like the episode.
IGNACIO is saved by Marco and Rogelio. He ends up going to the police the next day to file a complaint against Fernando but backs out at the last moment.
FERNANDO ends up with his family the next day in Mexico City and is welcomed home with open arms. He is so sorry. Martina tells him that everybody can make a mistake.
CECILIA goes to get an abortion but doesn't go through with it. Luis finds out about it from seeing a web page she was looking at and follows her to the clinic clearly worried about her. She tells him she is keeping the baby but is so depressed because she has nothing to offer it. She meets with Ignacio and tells him that the the baby is gone; she is no longer pregnant. He is angry because she didn't even talk to him and she should have. She tells him he will never change. He blames Fernando and Rogelio. He leaves telling her that his mother ruined his childhood but SHE ruined his life. He goes to see his therapist who tells him he has a right to be angry about not being consulted. That being said, he rejected the family he had. She adds that he can always find a new partner and have a new family. Ignacio is still blaming everyone but himself. The therapist tells him that nothing is going to change until he changes his own behavior.
FIDEL is still being pressured by Eva to get a transfer to another restaurant owned by Pedro in Mexico City by Eva. He brings it up with Pedro who says he has all of his employees right where he needs them. He did Rogelio a favor by giving him this job. Fidel finds out that part of his "management" job is cleaning up the restaurant.
IGNACIO and Cassandra are both mistakenly given the same table at a restaurant and neither will back down and give the table up. Ignacio suggests that they just stay put and quiet for 30 minutes. It works. When he gets the call from Cecilia, he leaves and pays for Cassandra's lunch, too. Cassandra tells Ignacio that sharing the table was strange but great. He agrees.
IGNACIO is shown some grace by Felipa and Melitón who still want to stay and work for him (even if he doesn't want to pay them) just so he isn't alone. Felipa tells him that loneliness does nobody any good. He asks her why they care so much. She says because he is Hipólito's son and his family has always been good to them. She touches something in Ignacio and he allows them to stay.
Lucas and aunt Pati find an abandoned dog in a box in a park. He wants to keep it. Paula calls to give them the good news that she found a school in Mexico City that will accept Lucas so that he will not lose credit for the school year. He needs to be ready and back in Mexico City by Monday. He does't want to leave Morelia. Paula promises him it will all work out. He tells his aunt Pati that he wants to keep the dog. Aunt Pati says they will take it to the vet, clean it up and then ask what his father thinks.
BEATRIZ comes to see Olimpia since she is in the city with her husband. They end up gossiping about Martina's fall from influence in Morelia society.
CASSANDRA tells Olimpia how much she doesn't want to complete her interview with Laura Cuevas. She always feels like she is trying to catch her on something. Olimpia tells her not to worry but to just remember she is the queen of fashion. She has no reason to be concerned or intimidated. She can obliterate Laura any time she chooses. During the interview, Laura Cuevas tries to embarrass Cassandra by asking her about "la perla" (pearl). Cassandra talks poetically about the inspiration of pearls and Laura tells her that is not what she was referring to. She was referring to the night club called "La Perla" where Cassandra first made clothing for a girl who worked there and then worked there herself. Cassandra cuts the interview short and politely tells Laura she is not playing her game. Eva is watching the interview and cannot believe the interviewer. Olimpia, who is always concerned about the number of her followers on the social networks, she has tells Cassandra that she needs to learn how to control herself.
OLIMPIA likes to pop by to see Martina every once in a while. On one of her visits, she says she is there only to check that everything is okay. Her trip is limited by the smell of baby vomit.
THE BOMBSHELL
At the end of the episode, Olimpia comes to "visit" Martina. She confronts Martina about cheating on her brother. She implies that Martina was already pregnant when she married Hipólito because she had this affair going on with Gabriel. Her son Rogelio was "premature" when he was born but still a big baby. Isn't it time to be honest about who his father really is? Fernando overhears the conversation.
That is all I got. Please feel free to add anytihg I left out.
Jarifa, a pivotal episode that you captured with your omnipresent insight and wisdom. You always highlight just what I miss and/or don’t understand – I am so appreciative!
The possibility that Rogelio might be Gabriel’s had flashed through my mind shortly after we knew he and Martina shared a past. However, Martina’s imperiousness and seemingly strict, rigid morals had me dismiss it. Still, hearing it uttered was a bit shocking.
“He leaves telling her that his mother ruined his childhood but SHE ruined his life” was typically cruel, lashing out in anger Ignacio. And no Ignacio, your mother did that, not Cecilia. That said, whyever would Cecilia lie to Ignacio about the baby?? Unless she is planning to move, never to return the truth will come out sooner rather than later. A bad move.
I thought there was a bit of a connection between Ignacio and Cassandra but couldn’t tell if it was romantic or familial. We know she is related to Olympia but does that mean she and Ignacio are related too?
As much of a crazed madman as Ignacio has been, my heart went out to him after Felipa’s touching speech which so clearly affected him. Every now and then, we see the vulnerable, damaged child he still is. But he has done so many terrible things, it would take a miracle to redeem him now. That said, I wholeheartedly believe in miracles.
Pati, Lucas and the dog are not adding up to a smooth transition to a new school. Something seems poised to go awry.
Pedro brings Fidel back to earth, kindly but firmly. I think Eva is going to have to accept staying “put” for the moment. And yes, restaurant work is all hands-on deck, everyone needing to pitch in, which I’m sure Fidel was happy to do, and do it with a smile.
Fernando looked shocked by what he overheard. I have a feeling that rather than quietly talking with Martina one on one, he will run to Rogelio and start the ball rolling for sure fire disaster.
Diana
Can I hire Felipa and her husband? Stay without being paid? I'm in shock.
I have to say it would be interesting if Rogelio turned out to be Gabriel's, mostly because of how arrogant Martina can be when judging others. I've noticed that judgemental people are themselves so obviously flawed that it baffles me they dare lecture others and don't fall off their high horse. I could never understand if it's lack of self-awareness or if their dislike of their own flaws and failings makes them want to look for failings in others to feel better.
One thing that could be said about this family is that they seem to stick together and don't abandon their own. Martina should see how the way she raised Fernando helped him shape into who he is. I think coming from her 'everyone can make a mistake' would have felt condescending, considering that she is the one who helped shape the dynamic of the relationship between her sons. The fact she admitted she made mistakes too made this better for me.
It's interesting the Iturbides 'I'm above this' rubbed off on Fidel and he had to realise what his job entailed. I bet if Rogelio had had to do it, he wouldn't have liked it much either. Fernando also not only didn't get his wish, but pretty much was told it's already a favour he is working there at all. I would have felt awful after learning that because it's very uncomfortable.
Cecilia better hide well if she has decided lying is her option.
It's funny to watch people like Casandra get scared or nervous. Olimpia didn't seem to care about it much, though. Was shealways rather unpleasant or did whatever Martina did turned her into a mean woman as some kind of self-defence? But obsession with followers often suggests to me she has a need for attention that was never satisfied.
The recap will be ready later today or at worst tomorrow. I apologize for the wait, but I've had a rough week.
Highlights
Roberta gives Marijó a sleeping pill.
Leo and Roberta fight about the pill (the weird thing is that Leo says Marijó is 14, while in the promo pictures they said she's 16. Huh?) Roberta starts crying again and says it was his fault Mau was left without a father. After she leaves, Joaquina tries to make him feel better.
Gael tells his family what happened. Emilia, Tigre and Zaira want to go talk to La Patrona about this, Gael and Seb stop them. Afterwards, they make a graph with Roberta's name and they people she's connected to; they want to make her pay, I guess, yes!
Leo gives us more gratuitous shirtlessness. He uses a sponsor app to play the intro song as he's thinking of Emi; Emi is thinking of him as well.
The next day:
Roberta threatens Marijó with Gael; she makes her tell Leo she wants Roberta to manage her money, which sounds SOOOOO stupid that Leo asks her if she thought of it herself. She manages to make it slightly more convincing; Leo says he'll think about this. He's going to them mines; Emilia left him a message she wants to talk to him.
Adalberto is watching some video I didn't understand. Berta gets in. FF--> material. She sees the video after he leaves and doesn't look well.
Orlando lets some shady dude sent by his dad do something with a truck; since Fidel is smiling like the Cheshire cat, it's not good.
Later, Jenny stops by Orlando's office to give him an invitation to her wedding. He's not that happy and asks her if she will be.
The miners complain to Emi that they were left to go to the mines unprotected (why does this not surprise me).
Mau is nice to Emi. She looks like she trusts him again, NOOOO!
Emi goes to Sara's office, who acts as she owns the place even though Leo broke up with her so she doesn't have to be there. She has a giant picture of her and Leo together too. Anyway. Sara doesn't solve any problem, she just pisses Emi off.
Sara tells Seb Emi and Leo have a thing.
Some dude hits on Emi and she tries to give him common sense.
Seb asks Emi if she wants to tell him anything about Leo.
Great work, Jarifa.
With 39 episodes left I think that Fernando will demand or sneak a DNA test with the goal of getting Rogelio out of the family. Again, there should be some statute of limitations on situations like this. Hipolito's name would be on Rogelio's birth certificate (also keeping in mind that DNA tests did not yet exist then), he raised him, and he died regarding him as his son. Rogelio had taken the reins of the family business 20 years ago and did so successfully until Ignacio fouled the waters. However...
Rogelio had described his father as strict and tough so it makes me wonder whether Hipolito suspected he wasn't his. Rogelio is significantly taller, like Gabriel (Brilliant casting job here) and his complexion is darker than those of his brothers. Is this what motivated Hipolito to cheat on Martina? Irma was not the only "other woman." I don't recall either Fernando or Luis saying anything significant about Hipolito and Marco has no memories of him because he was a baby when Hipolito died.
If Hipolito suspected, it seems logical that Olympia sowed the seeds of doubt.
As for the Cassandra situation I am prepared to speculate that she is Olympia's daughter and may not know it. Olympia would have concealed her pregnancy somehow and faked an adoption. This could account for the connexion Cassandra and Ignacio felt but tried to ignore. About the interview, I would find it impossible to take Laura Cuevas seriously. Based on her clothes I was looking for the ruby slippers and the yellow brick road. Her mannerisms are more childish than her clothes and coiffure.
Pati will probably use the dog to lure Lucas away from his parents. Neither Rogelio nor Paula are likely to deny him a dog but I don't think Olympia will allow it in her house.
No disagreement about Cecelia's decision. She needs to get as far away from Ignacio as she can knowing how dangerous he is. It bothers me, BTW, that she didn't have the abortion in view of the fact that it is now legal and that she is a textbook example of someone who should abort. How much of Irma's madness did Ignacio inherit and could pass on? As others have pointed out his violence could eventually be directed at the baby.
Once the family's rep is cleared the fact that Rogelio is now working for another company could be the exit door out of his very toxic family environment. He could become a VP and a shareholder at his new job.
As his shrink said, Ignacio still fails to recognize that Irma was the cause of all that he has done. Had Irma agreed to meet with Hipolito and Martina back in the day none of this would have happened. Ignacio still fails to take responsibility for his own behaviour.
"Rogelio had described his father as strict and tough so it makes me wonder whether Hipolito suspected he wasn't his. Rogelio is significantly taller, like Gabriel (Brilliant casting job here) and his complexion is darker than those of his brothers".
Urban, your comments are always enlightening as was your entire one today, especially the above.
Gracias!!
Diana
Weirdo, thank you for the terrific recap, which you punctuated with bright, uplifting insight and humor.
“Leo gives us more gratuitous shirtlessness” which was just fine with me! 😊 So far, he has been a kind, compassionate and loving galan. I prefer my galans rather perfect. Leave the shades of complex gray for other characters.
You can see Emi struggling not to fall in love with Leo. Resistance is futile.
I love Orlando but there is absolutely no chemistry between him and Jenny. I wish I cared the least little bit about her and Mau but I care not a whit.
I enjoyed Emi dressing the offending miner down, I only wish I knew what she was saying…
Sara should just mind her own damn business. Sebas doesn’t need fuel thrown on his fire.
Growing up in Jersey many decades ago, our local TV station stopped live programming Christmas Eve and aired a cheesy picture of a log “burning” in a fireplace for 24 hours. Seeing the same (slightly upgraded) scene on the TV where Orlando and Leo were, I did a double take!! The past returned to life for a few moments…
Diana
waterlily, I smiled at your comment regarding Felipa and Meliton. They are amazing aren't they??
I would love to have them as friends; not a kinder or more loyal duo to be found.
I hope Felipa is able to have the child she so desperately wants...
Diana
Weirdo, thank you for another snappy recap. I haven't been able to watch this episode yet , but when I do, i will understand it better. Busy.
My favorite line was " she tried to give him common sense ." If only it was something you could actually give someone .
More shirtless moments. Thanks. Should we start a drinking game? Let's keep those moments restricted to Leo and Orlando ...maybe Seb? I don't like seeing Adalberto in clothes let alone shirtless.
Oswaldo is doing a great job as a galan. I knew he would.
Thanks Jarifa, Great notes! I think this episode is going to be a turning point for the family.
I don’t know if Rogelio really is Gabriela’s. And if it’s true, did Hipólito know that when they married. Martina loved Gabriel but married Hipólito, but I seem to remember her parent’s forcing her to. And Ignacio seems closer in age to Fernando, so when did Hipólito start cheating. Or was it a loveless match for both of them? If Fernando tells Rogelio what he heard I will be very disappointed in him, he’s been petty and jealous from the beginning.
Since Olimpia had to leave because of baby vomit I can’t see her allowing a dog. And it’s hard to have a dog in an apartment anyway. Pati might turn into another enemy of the family.
I did not understand that whole interview thing. I had to laugh when I read in your notes that Olimpia is concerned with the number of followers she has. I think of that as a younger person’s worry.
Liz
Jarifa, thank you so much for the excellent report on all the drama spinning out in this episode.
Wow, Olimpia is an extremely unlikable person. I didn't know what she said to Paula , but I could tell that she seemed to want nothing to do with that sweet baby. Monster. Does Olympia have any children?...I suppose not since she can't stand baby spit up . I can't see her dealing with dirty diapers and runny noses.
I have thought that Gabriel was Rog's dad from the moment we discovered that Gabe and Martina were teenagers in love and he was still in love with her ...or his memory of her. I wonder if Gabe knows that he is Rog's dad ?
I am confused . Did Igy and Cassandra ( the former exotic dancer turned fashion designer) just happen to meet or did they already know each other ? I guess Olympia must have Been friends with Irma if she knew Beatriz. Bunch of busybodues.
The actress playing Felipa is excellent. She played a funny, fast talking maid in the Azteca show I saw her in.
I'm thinking that Ignacio may have seen her once upon a time in a strip club [although I can't see how he could escape from Irma long enough at night to do anything like that]. She did not appear to recognize him.
Olympia strikes me as someone who compartmentalizes her life very efficiently. She is good at keeping things separate when it suits her purpose.
Fernando is impulsive, so it will be difficult for him to keep this new information under wraps. Will he tell Imelda first? What will she manipulate him into doing? Is he likely to confront Martina? Did Martina know she was pregnant at the altar?
Interestingly, Otto Sirgo (Gabriel) was in a similar situation in an earlier novela by the same network.
What will be worst of all is when Ignacio finds out.
They sure are keeping this interesting.
I wish we knew exactly how Cassandra is related to Olimpia. If she is lucky, she is related via Olympia's dead husband and not through the Iturbide connection.
Why would we be shown that Eva was watching the Cassandra interview with mention of La Perla unless she knows her somehow?
I also wonder about the Cassandra /Ignacio restaurant scene. Two strangers. Will fate bring them together again? To me, Cassandra looked like she could be "interested" in him and maybe him in her.
Diana, "That said, whyever would Cecilia lie to Ignacio about the baby?? Unless she is planning to move, never to return the truth will come out sooner rather than later. A bad move." Exactly, it made no sense to me.
waterlily, "Cecilia better hide well if she has decided lying is her option." Like maybe a permanent move to Mexico City and staying away from the Iturbide family???
Urban, "How much of Irma's madness did Ignacio inherit and could pass on?" An abortion would have been so logical given that point and the inherent danger a relationship with Ignacio would have. Excellent comment about the casting of Gabriel and Rogelio.
Liz, "Since Olimpia had to leave because of baby vomit I can’t see her allowing a dog. And it’s hard to have a dog in an apartment anyway." I so agree. Could hiding the dog become another bit of comedy? Who knows?
Susan, "I have thought that Gabriel was Rog's dad from the moment we discovered that Gabe and Martina were teenagers in love and he was still in love with her...or his memory of her. I wonder if Gabe knows that he is Rog's dad ? " I think you were the first to bring up this possibility way back when because I do remember that somebody did. : )
Thank you Jarifa! It always amazes me what I don't pay attention to and learn for the first time from your recaps!! I didn't see an interview or realize the former exotic dancer angle! lol
Is Rogelio Gabriel's? Or is Olimpia assuming incorrectly? Novela law would suggest Rogelio is indeed Gabriel's, but I hope for once they go against the grain and it turns out that Olimpia is just poison and wrong!!! I suppose for no other reason than I am just sick of the same old formula every time.
I don't think lying was such a bad idea for Cecelia, whether she disappears or not it buys her time. Ignacio believed her so it gets him off her back at least until she starts showing. He would have been constantly hounding her and following her if he believed she was still pregnant. Of course, there is the other side of the coin where he could get violent and 'punish' her for aborting, which I am actually shocked that he didn't!! Nice that he went to therapy instead but Cece could still be in danger.
Darcy, I don't remember seeing the interview either . Sometimes I read about scenes in the recaps that I don't get even if I have recorded the episode and watch a second time . Odd. Maybe that means that some areas get a extra commercials???? Is that possible?
Yes, there must be a reason for Eva was watching the interview. She will recognize Cassandra.
Darcy, if I wasn’t recapping this one, I wouldn’t notice half of what I do. Great point about how the lie will buy Cecilia time. That had not crossed my mind. Punishing her for the abortion definitely did cross my mind. “Nice that he went to therapy instead but Cece still could he in danger.” I don’t think he will ever change.
Can we talk about how stupid Marijo's decision is? I do understand she is a teen, but she still has Leonardo on her side. Why didn't she tell him she feared Gael will go to jail?Roberta promissed to help, but Marijo knows Roberta doesn't love her so how does she think she can be sure Robertawill keep her word. Mari could even go to Emilia's family and tell them what's going on. My point is that there are adults who would be willing to help. If Leonardo accepts her explanation and signs his rights over to Roberta, I don't know how I'll keep watching this telenovela. But maybe that's the problem with the good guys in these stories: they seem trusting to the point of stupidity. The worst was when Mari told Leo that if he didn't want to do it for her, he should do it for Ignacio. But why the hell would he let Roberta manage Mari's money when this wasn't what Ignacio wanted? How would that mean doing this for him? The girl is a terrible liar. I wonder what Emilia's family is planning to do. They have no money and no conncetions.
Thanks for your comments, everyone!
Diana, Emi basically asked the miner how would he feel if his wife or daughter was treated this way at work or school. Nice speech, but she's wasting her time; these guys don't change.
Susan, I also like Osvaldo as a galán.
Waterlily, ITA with "If Leonardo accepts her explanation and signs his rights over to Roberta, I don't know how I'll keep watching this telenovela. But maybe that's the problem with the good guys in these stories: they seem trusting to the point of stupidity."
Thank you Weirdo for the recaps! I am behind again! I will catch up tomorrow. Trying to keep up with 4 novelas at once while being busy with real life is a lot! Lol but I don’t want to stop watching any of them. I was expecting to lose interest in at least one!
Super job, Jarifa.
Martina was so blown away to discover Hipolito had cheated on her and hid an offspring. She's shown she can be a hypocrite though. If it's true, poor Rogelio. Ignacio will have a good laugh.
Hmmm, there's been no "call of the blood" with Rogelio and Gabriel or Andrea.
Back in the day, Eva worked in a rough nightclub (strip joint?) dealing with Patch Man. Maybe she and Cassandra are connected there?
That abandoned dog was very well groomed in that box. He must've been abandoned just minutes ago. My nephew dog would've made mincemeat of that box and roamed free. Made me wonder if Aunt Pati had planted that dog.
"That abandoned dog was very well groomed in that box. He must've been abandoned just minutes ago. My nephew dog would've made mincemeat of that box and roamed free. Made me wonder if Aunt Pati had planted that dog". 😊 Niecie, I think you are onto something!
"No call of the blood" is another excellent point. I really had myself convinced...Hmmm.
Diana
Weirdo, thanks for explaining that dialogue. I'm glad Emi stood up for herself but as you noted, her words fell on deaf ears. You can't fix stupid.
Diana
Niecie, loved your idea of the dog plant. I would put nothing past Pati. I think you are right about a connection between Cassandra and Eva through the “club.”
Of course Pati planted that dog in the park. He looked too healthy for one that was abandoned.
I had almost forgotten about Eva's past but this could be a weapon on the right hands.
to Tierra fans, I just finished watching and hope to have the recap up in the morning.
Episode 34: Part 1 of 3
Valentina smart-mouthed off at Maria Teresa who managed to maintain a stiff upper lip [Did she watch Doña Barbara back in the day?]. She told Valentina that there was to be no more such behavior and they had a contract to fulfill. No catfight ensued. Santos promised to satisfy the this demand. Valentina looked back at him for that.
Marco told Rut to be patient; they would soon get La Esperanza. Rut poured shots to drink to this.
Maria Teresa told them all the orchards were to be fumigated and the cows needed whatever it took to produce milk. Santos fell just short of a military salute. Valentina made a petulant comment and left. Maria Teresa told Santos she was losing patience with her as she entered the henhouse.
Esteban's blood pressure was up which caused his doctor to ward him he could have another heart attack. He gave him some new medications.
Marco and Rut talked about building new bridges over the river once Marco got the property. Marco poured some more shots, saying that when that happened all business had to satisfy his standards as his condition. This was then tabled for future discussion.
Maria Teresa began collecting eggs. Santos entered the henhouse and began talking about his theory that these attacks were planned by somebody. Maria Teresa listened and seemed to realize that she was the target of some organized plot. Santos swore to defeat this.
Valentina vented to Regina about what just happened and Regina said not to cause problems with the boss because they could not risk Bernarda losing her job.
Maria Teresa told Santos that this isn't only about her; what is happening affects everyone on the property. She trusted him. There were tears welling up in her eyes. He had to have noticed that.
Bernarda was working on the cows, giving them injections and dispensing the herbal brew as she talked to Cris. She was already worried about losing her position.
Regina tried to assure Valentina that everything would be alright. Santos arrived and Valentina went on to him about how she didn't like Maria Teresa's manner toward her and further that she looked jealous. Santos told her that she needed to show respect and that Maria Teresa was upset about the recent problems at the ranch. Valentina finally told him that none of what happened was his fault and she cared just as much about the ranch as he did.
Clemente continued his signing studies at the office. He shut down the program when Trejo entered. He also had drawings on the desk. Trejo mentioned Rut's feelings about this and admitted that he didn't get it either. His tone was not like Rut's, though, jokingly told Clemente that he was “weird,” and chuckled en route to his own desk. [So... is he hoping to find out more?]
Rut and Marco left Rut's office and continued talking about the new bridge. Camila saw them from across the street. As the two men parted company Camila stopped Marco whom she had not seen in a while and lured him back to her place for later activities. He said he had been busy.
Episode 34: Part 2 of 3
Valentina vented to Regina again with the same reminder from her. She then changed the subject to getting Regina together with Clemente. Bernarda came home and Valentina told her she was going to see Remedios and Regina was going with her. Bernarda said not to be late and went inside.
Clemente was on his way to meet Regina an Rut almost caught him. Trejo was his unexpected savior, saying they had to go over some documents. Clemente escaped as his elders went into the police station.
Marco went to Camila's and she found out that Maria Teresa's wedding did not take place. Marco would not elaborate on this. She handed him a full shot glass and asked about what else he did in the capital. He said “Business” and mentioned that Maria Teresa “will be very helpful.” That was all he said because he was horny.
Clemente met the girls in the town square. Valentina left the lovebirds to themselves.
Santos and Cris talked about fumigating the stables as someone else started leading the horses out. Santos told Cris all about the bad blood starting between Maria Teresa and Valentina. Cris pointed out the possibility of jealousy and Santos dismissed it, not really wanting to talk about it.
Marco left Camila's place, but was seen by Valentina [Fortunately he did not see her].
Clemente gave Regina some drawings, explaining he was almost caught by his father. He then declared his love and they kissed. He asked her to be his novia. She accepted but still was afraid for him to talk to Bernarda. He said he would ask Valentina for help.
Santos still was determined to forget Maria Teresa and learn to love Valentina. He was certain he could do this. [Lo siento, pero el corazón no se manda.]
Valentina went to see Remedios to cover her tracks and to get a stomach remedy, as she told her mother. Remedios said there was something else going on, noting that she was Santos' novia. Valentina said she was very happy. Remedios told her she was concerned because Santos was not accustomed to serious relationships. Valentina was sure she would be The One. Remedios advised her to be careful and patient.
Adriana went back inside her place to find Grim sitting on the parlor couch. She was startled and not pleased. Marco came in behind her; he had not been expecting Grim either. Grim said he came to get to know Adriana better as in how she came to Puerto Bravo, etc. She did not want to talk about it. Marco made a comment about how she swept into town and stole his father's heart and then he became more interested than previously in her backstory. He suggested she sit down while he fetched the tequila. Grim said little but was clearly amused at her discomfort.
Valentina ran back to the square to fetch Regina and found her holding hands with Clemente. She was happy to see this but when Clemente mentioned Bernarda she said she needed to think about how this should happen. The sisters left quickly so as not to be home late.
Episode 34: Part 3 of 3
Marco got Adriana to talk. She said her life really began when she met Jeronimo. Grim said something about country men meets city woman and the issues. He asked her why she didn't go back to the city and she said she didn't have many friends and came to love Puerto Bravo. Marco wanted to know more, looking as though he were a frat boy asking a fellow student. Adriana looked at him with suspicion.
Back at the police station Rut told Trejo to send an anonymous report to the health department about the red spider plague at La Esperanza, demanding that this be done immediately. Trejo pointed to some documents on the desk and Rut tarted out, telling him to make that call. Trejo went to the desk phone but stopped dialing after Rut was out the door.
Adriana talked about wanting a peaceful life and got lucky to meet Jeromimo. She talked about their love and how short it was, then fake-cried and excused herself. After she walked out Marco asked Grim how well he knew Adriana. Grim replied that they had just recently met.
Bernarda told Maria Teresa the cows were getting better and should be producing milk shortly. Maria Teresa raised the issue about Valentina and Santos and Bernarda said she would talk to her about it; they were not supposed to be working together. Maria Teresa pointed out that she and her father held her in great trust and explained the importance of making their quota for the next month. Bernarda asked Maria Teresa about Esteban and Maria Teresa told her that he was getting better.
Trejo did make that call from his cell phone. He finished with it before Clemente returned, apologizing for being late. He then sat down to his own desk.
Valentina decided to make dinner and bring the subject up at dessert. Regina then described how happy she was about The Kiss.
Bernarda went to see Santos. After telling him that the cows were better she got on his case about Valentina and how Maria Teresa thought their relationship was a distraction. He defended himself and she said she would have a talk with Valentina about this. He said that was not necessary, but Bernarda was determined to handle this.
Clemente went home and told his mother about Regina. Norma was happy for him but said they needed to talk to Bernarda. Clemente was determined to make Regina happy.
Bernarda came home to find dinner on the table. She sat down and this spiraled into a disagreement between her and Valentina over Santos, which ended with Valentina leaving the table.
Maria Teresa was working on the books when Marco came over with red roses and a slimy grin.
Urban, this was fantastic! You captured the tone and the mood of this episode to perfection.
Thank you for “[Lo siento, pero el corazón no se manda.]”
This was an interesting episode where several incidents piqued my curiosity. By not making the call Rut ordered him to, is Trejo backpedaling a bit? He seems to have a small soft spot for Clemente and I’m wondering if this will be relevant later.
Marco’s suspicions about Adriana are roused and he is too obvious and overly inquisitive. Between him and Grim, Adriana is feeling even more cornered.
Maria Teresa IS clearly jealous of Valentina and Valentina is being protective of Santos. But Valentina isn’t aware of the pain, losses and betrayal Maria Teresa has suffered. That said, these strong women realize they are in this “good fight” together and it was nice to see they aren’t turning on each other. Similarly, Bernarda and Maria Teresa are both suffering due to everything that is transpiring and although Maria Teresa is upset with the Valentina situation, they still show respect for each other.
With her history with Rut (whatever it is), I can’t see Bernarda giving her blessing to Regina for Clemente. Good luck in trying to get that to happen Valentina! I do like Valentina’s suspicions about Marco and think she is going to uncover quite a bit. Unlike Camila who seems to be expending a lot of energy for few results.
“Marco came over with red roses and a slimy grin” made my stomach churn. Maria Teresa is oblivious. Sadly.
Diana
Thanks, Diana.
Trejo gets more interesting all the time. We have no context for him outside of his job and the bribes he has taken. I don't recall him ever mentioning anything about himself. I have the feeling he is not married and doesn't have any children (that he knows of). Clemente is probably hitting him on a subconscious level and I think he will eventually draw a line he won't cross for Rutilio and Marco. That would put his life in danger.
He looks like the classic cliche of a Old-West Mexican gentleman with the thick hair, old-fashioned mustache, and an affable smile. I haven't seen any of his previous work, but he has been cast as a cop several times before.
Bernarda is very likely to freak when she finds out about Regina and Clemente. I think that Rutilio is her rapist and there is a strong possibility that he sired one of her daughters. If that daughter is Regina there is incest to worry about but it will freak Bernarda out either way.
Sergio Goyri and/or the producer needs to decide what color hair he should have.
Marco will not give up on finding out more about the stepmother who is his age. He will not like her past. That much is certain.
Thanks, Urban, I enjoyed that. I had no idea that Marco was planning to build bridges over the river! He’s really got this planned out. He has the deed but does that make him the owner. I would think MT would have to sign it over to him. I can’t wait to see his plans fall apart. Which means MT needs to quit telling him all her plans.
Valentina made me mad in this episode, well she makes me mad a lot. But you don’t back talk your boss. I’m not even sure she’s on the payroll, I thought she was just helping out. But I’m glad they won’t be kissing at work, he’s old enough to be her dad.
Trejo does seem to have a soft spot for Clemente. Did he know he was taking his drawings to his girlfriend. Clemente told his dad Trejo was sending him somewhere with the folder.
Valentina, Clemente and Camila need to pool their knowledge and suspicions.
I enjoyed seeing Adriana in the hot seat! At least the bad guys didn’t accomplish anything this time.
Liz
I don't think Clemente told him anything about Regina. He suspects that something shady is up and that Trejo is involved. He would want to protect Regina.
If they were still making teen novelas this actor would be a big star. Unless he changes his mind about the profession he is definitely a future lead.
Urban, thank you for a great recap that caught every detail .
MT has to wake up and snap out of it and see what a weasel Marco is.
As for Adriana, I dont understand her role in this story . She just seems to be a model for racy clothes. Whatever.
Valentina is acting like a teen stealing kisses from her boyfriend behind the school bleachers at halftime . Santos is too old to be acting like a teen accepting her kisses. MT is their boss and deserves respect. It's interesting that the writers decided Santos should date young Val instead of her mother , who is probably around Santos' age .
"Bernarda is very likely to freak when she finds out about Regina and Clemente. I think that Rutilio is her rapist and there is a strong possibility that he sired one of her daughters". Thanks Urban! I agree that is exactly the situation. Clemente and Regaina have grown close and I'm thinking that relationship is a red herring and that Valentina might be his (poor girl)...
Trejo is a villain but at least he is complex and may not be quite as evil as Marco and Rut??
Because Marco is putting the pressure on, I think Grim's days are numbered; Adriana is going to need to permanently silence him.
Liz, I had no idea Marco was going to build bridges either. He has it all planned out doesn't he??
Susan, I am so frustrated Maria Teresa is blindly trusting Marco! Santos needs to be convey his suspicious louder and morre frequently. That said, he really doesn't have any definitive proof does he?? Maria Teresa is literally giving everything away!!
Diana
I noticed that After a conversation , Clemente hugged Trejo , and they both smiled . These two seem to be forming A friendship , and Trejo is going to reform and protect Clemente.
Thanks, Urban for another fantastic recap!!
How old is Valentina? She's got to be an adult otherwise her dating Santos would be creepy, but her mother is still telling her what to do as if she's a child. Plus, they mention Bernarda could lose her job if MT gets mad at Vale...which means just Vale couldn't get kicked off the ranch, though that might have more to do with family loyalty than age.
Vale shouldn't be mouthing off to the boss, but Bernarda shouldn't be lecturing her as if she's a child who broke a rule either. A calmer heart to heart full of advise instead of criticism would go a lot further.
I agree that Bernarda will not accept Clemente because of Rut!!!
Darcy, I loved "A calmer heart to heart full of advise instead of criticism would go a lot further".
I don't think they've ever said how old Valentina is supposed to be. In RL the actress is 26 but I think she looks much, much younger. To me, that makes the age difference with Santos even more glaring.
Perhaps the age difference in the storyline isn't as much as it appears to be. I still think Santos is too old for Vale. The only reason Bernarda gave her consent is that she has known and trusted Santos for years but I still wince a bit...
Diana
I think Valentina is meant to be about 19 or 20 and she is a year older than Regina. Whether she is still a virgin is a relevant question. She probably is with Bernarda watching her like a hawk.
Santos has apparently never had a serious relationship so he is less mature emotionally than he should be. However, he's no virgin. I have known a few men who did not want the responsibility of being a virgin's initiant. This is why I think this relationship will end before that could happen. I am envisioning a brinkmanship scene about that.
I don't think that Bernarda understands the long-term consequences of being a helicopter parent. It thus far has not affected either of her daughters in terms of confining their minds to accepting the limitations she puts on them. They are both rebelling, so Bernarda has to get over her own paranoia and I don't think she can really do that without a good shrink.
Not that there are any in Puerto Bravo.
Yes, at some point , you have to let your kids live with their decisions and make their own mistakes , but it is very hard . No matter how much you love them and want to protect them from any kind of harm , you have to let them go. Bernarda just wants to protect her girls. Val is going to be hurt when Santos and MT snap out of it and get back together as we know they will. Susan
Just watched a very entertaining limited mystery series on Netflix today listed as “Widows on Thursdays” (“ Las viudas de los jueves”). There were a couple of familiar faces like Omar Chaparro and Zuria Vega. This is the first time I ever saw Omar Chaparro in a dramatic role. He did a great job. There are only six episodes; perfect for bingeing.
Jarifa, I really like Zuria Vega...this sounds good.
I don't have Netflix but it appears I'm really missing much as so many good shows are turning up there...
If only my cable bill weren't out of control as it is. I did weaken and order Peacock (which was initiallyfree to lure you in). I saw the initial episode of Poker Face with Natasha Lyonne and was hookeed. One of the best series I've ever seen. She is mesmerizing and also one of the producers, along with Maya Rudolph.
It's good to know that there are at least a few notewothy options for the weekends :)

Diana, yes, cable prices just keep going up. I gave up the package we had with Starz and HBO because I wasn't watching those shows much. It seems that so many movies are now horror, zombies, depressing stuff.
Diana, yes, they tried to lure me in with Peacock, too. We must have same cable provider. I admit that I did get to see some interesting things before they pulled it. I am glad you found a good series. That is getting harder all the time. The pricing of these networks is out of control.
Susan, I loved The Lincoln Lawyer, Squid Game, The Extraordinary Attorney Woo just to name a few besides their extensive Spanish language content. Never could get into Outlander. I am not a big fan of period pieces. Yes, those two actors have been in novelas but not very recently.
I got rid of cable a few years ago. I now just have streaming services: Netflix, Hulu, Paramount, Univision, Peacock, ViX (which I got for free through T-mobile). All together the various streaming services are less than $60 a month which is way less than cable. It takes getting used to especially with no DVR. But you can find most anything streaming. There are very very few things available on cable that can’t be streamed. And a lot of that is local TV programming which you can access with an antenna. I thought it would be a difficult transition and I would miss cable but I really don’t.
