Secrets #78 part 1

"Snowflakes in the avalanche do not know that they are the cause of it." - Oscar Wilde

Pars and Derya’s secret relationship has been outed in the press. Ilgaz and Eren come to Pars office. Pars is distraught. An investigation into our work just concluded. What am I going to tell TA if he calls? He can do whatever he wants to me. Ilgaz asks, do you know who leaked the news? [“Yekta!”] Pars says he’s called everyone and the paper who published the article. I sent a team over.

Eren asks if they should suppress the headlines. Pars thinks it would backfire. They will say we’re silencing them. Ilgaz asks, is there anything we can do? No. So what do we do, Eren asks. Pars thinks he and Derya will be sent to different offices.

I don’t want to make trouble for Derya, Pars says, so I’ll put in my request for transfer immediately. It’s been great working with you guys. Eren tells him, you can’t do this. That’s all I can do, Pars replies, I don’t know what else to do. We can call each other and email. Ilgaz thinks… there may be another way out. You should reconsider.

Ilgaz and Eren leave and they are immediately accosted by Yekta. The file isn’t in the system, he says, I want to read their (the young’uns) statements. Eren says they provided information, not statements. Yekta demands an update. Serdar’s mother cries and his killer hasn’t been caught yet. Is there no justice? Ilgaz bites back, ask my assistant if I’m available. Don’t cross my path again, counselor.

Ceylin meets Tolga at the dock. She has the balloons she purchased. Where’s the boat, she asks. Tolga wonders what’s up with the balloons. They board the boat.

Merve gives information to Ilgaz. She’s nervous. Yes, at the hotel, she says, yes, that’s the last time I saw Serdar. Ilgaz says that Serdar was murdered the day they had dinner at Ceylin’s. What did you do that day? I… went to school, she replies, I attended class. Then the girls called to ask me to dinner. I went home and got ready. Then I went to Ceylin’s.

What time did you go, Ilgaz asks. She asks, what time was the dinner? Eren says 7p. We got there at 7:30. Merve is unsure and then says, I was told to be there at 7, so I was there at 7. Eren asks, so you just showed up and didn’t help with the cooking? I wanted to, Merve replies, but Mrs. Gul had everything ready. Eren and Ilgaz look at each other. Ilgaz says they’re done.

Merve leaves and the guys note the contradiction in Merve’s information. What if the kids are up to something? Ilgaz gets agitated and wants the kids to give official statements so they can confirm their whereabouts. He wants their phone records. Calm down, Eren tells him, maybe it’s just a stupid misunderstanding. Maybe they did something wrong and are lying to cover it up. [I’ll say!] Ilgaz wants those phone records.

Ceylin and Tolga decorate the boat for a baby shower. A man, Kamil, meets them. Ceylin tells him she wants to surprise her husband, Cetin. I’m 4 months pregnant and just found out I’m having a boy….blah, blah…blah.. Kamil offers congratulations but asks, what do you want from me? A tiny favor, she replies, could you call Cetin and have him come over? Tell him there’s an issue with the boat. Kamil is hesitant, but Ceylin talks him into it. Tolga is impressed and says Ceylin should be an actress.

Eren gets troubling news about the kids. They were in the same place, but not at Ceylin’s. They were at this location around 3p. By the docks. The signal remained there until the next day. Ilgaz says, that’s impossible. They were with us at dinner. Something smells bad. Eren agrees. Ilgaz wants to visit the station closest to that location and review any incidents reported that day. If the crime scene is there, there must be a witness.

secrets #78 part 2

Merdan is feeding the boys who found Serdar in the dump. We’re just going to talk, he tells them.

Eren and Ilgaz review incidents at the other station. A robbery. A fight. Someone reported hearing gunshots. That case is still pending. Ilgaz notes that Serdar had GSR on his hand. Ilgaz wants officers to bring them to the area.

Fake Cetin shows up at the boat. What’s going on, he asks. I’m Attorney Ceylin Erguvan, Aylin’s sister. You know… the woman you tried to fool with your lies. It’s a pleasure to meet you. You have it all wrong, the Faker replies.

Do I, Ceylin asks, are you a liar? Are you in the mafia? Don’t be ridiculous, he replies. I don’t know why you lied, or why you chose my sister, Ceylin says, but this ends now. If I ever see you near Aylin or Osman or any member of my family again, I’ll send you to prison for fraud and assault.

Faker asks, what do you mean by assault? Ceylin accuses, you shot Osman! Who is Osman, he asks, what are you talking about? Aylin’s husband, Ceylin shouts, drop the act! Faker has no idea who Osman is and claims he shot no one. She answers, he attacked you, and you fought. He hurt you and you shot him. He stabbed you in the abdomen. Faker replies, there’s a big lie here, but I’m not the one who’s lying. He lifts his shirt. There’s no wound.

Yekta surveys his new office with great pleasure. Aysu(n) enters and announces Lacin’s arrival. He welcomes her with a big smile. She’s shocked. I thought you went to work at a small firm, she says. Is the sign outside real? [Tilmen Hukuk – Tilmen Law] It is, Yekta replies, does it look bad? Should I change it?

I don’t get it, Lacin says, you’re poor. How can you afford this place? It’s huge! Where did you get all these things? Yekta proudly answers, the place is 450 sq meters. The whole floor! Do you remember the client I told you about a while ago? I oversee all legal matters for Dolunlar Holding. Lacin can’t get over it.

Yekta asks her why she’s come in such a hurry. Lacin says, in 30 minutes someone will be here to meet with you. All I want is for you to listen to everything he has to say and understand what he’s trying to tell you. Don’t do your usual talking over people. Yekta gets impatient. What are you talking about, he asks, who’s coming to see me? I don’t like riddles. Lacin says, is he’s coming, you’ll understand soon enough. In the meantime, may I have some coffee with milk?

Pars walks through the hall and spots Derya entering her office. He takes a second to ready himself and then barges in. She jumps from her seat. What are you doing here? Are you crazy? We work together, he replies, and this is a meeting. She asks in a panic, yes, but today? We’re not kids, he answers back, we can’t play these games.

I don’t have a choice, Derya says, I don’t want to give anyone a reason to talk. We shouldn’t interact for a while, okay? Unless it’s absolutely necessary. We could be transferred to different courthouses. And I’ll probably be the one who’s transferred. She feels overwhelmed. It’s an embarrassment. Why, Pars asks, is it wrong to fall in love? Is that shameful? Is it addressed in the code? It isn’t, Derya Savcı.

Pars walks over to her and puts his hands over hers. I’m very proud of the love we feel for one another. Derya has no regrets either. She puts her hand on his cheek. Then why do you act like this, he asks. It’s not over yet. Can’t you see we’d never work in the same courthouse, she replies, we will always be at a distance. All long-distance relationships end the same way.

secrets #78 part 3

Pars says not to worry, he won’t let that happen. Derya asks, what are you going to do? Have you considered another option? He has. I’ve seen it done before and it’s very effective. He smiles and she sighs with worry.

The cops bring Ilgaz and Eren to Serdar’s hideout. Eren asks, where did the report come from? The cop says the mosque next door. Where did the sound of gunshots come from? The cop points in the direction of the hideout. He says they searched but didn’t find anything. The cops go and Ilgaz and Eren stay to look around.

Ceylin enters her mom’s house and shouts for Osman. Gul and Aylin are there and Osman comes out of his room. Ceylin demands to know what they are hiding. What did you do? Tell me everything. Lots of nervous stares.

Ilgaz and Eren continue to search Serdar’s hideout. We see flashbacks to the fated day. Tugce wants to call Eren. Gul hits Serdar with the shovel. Parla attacks Serdar. Serdar threatens everyone with the gun and tells them to put their phones in his bag. Osman makes a move and Serdar shoots.

Ilgaz notices a spot on the wall and starts scraping it with a key. It’s a bullet hole. He calls Eren and tells him to get team there immediately. This isn’t good news.
Ceylin tells Osman she knows Cetin didn’t shoot him. Who did? No answer. Ceylin shouts, tell me who shot you! Osman claims Cetin lied to her. Ceylin can’t believe Osman is still trying to lie. I spoke with Cetin and he’s never met you! Osman counters, you think he’d admit what he did? He’s lying!

You’re the one who’s lying, Ceylin replies. I thought he’d agree to a deal because you hurt him too, but he had no wound. Are you trying to piss me off? Why won’t you tell me the truth? Parla enters the house and hears the argument upstairs. She quietly exits and calls Cinar. It’s over. There’s no saving us this time.

Eren wonders what happened. A bullet didn’t kill Serdar. This is a terrible surprise! A gun was fired here—the same place where our family gathered. This is serious. I have a bad feeling. I don’t want to be pessimistic, but something bad happened. They went after Serdar.

Ceylin takes a water break. Gul follows her into the kitchen. You trust a liar like Cetin, she asks, but you don’t trust us? What don’t you understand, Ceylin asks in reply, he showed me there was no wound to his abdomen. What could he be trying to protect? You’re not listening to us, Gul answers.

Merdan calls Ceylin. Things are very complicated, but be patient, he tells her. I’ll come over and explain everything. Why would you do that, Ceylin asks. Merdan replies, just be patient. She asks why should I? What are you going to tell me? This is about all of us, Merdan says, not just Osman. Ceylin gives him 20 minutes and then she’s calling the police. Before Merdan goes he tells a worker to keep a close eye on the boys and don’t let them go anywhere.

Ilgaz looks devastated. Eren is scared about what they will find. Ilgaz says they are at a crime scene. What we find here will incriminate our family, even if we don’t want it to. We don’t know what we’ve just stumbled across. We need to face it, no matter what it is.

Eren laments, it came at a time when we found balance, when we celebrated that we were finally together, that we’d become a family. Ilgaz comments, I really am starting to hate my job. Eren says he feels the same. His heart can’t stand the thought of Tugce being there.

Ilgaz calls Pars, who is busy chasing after Derya, who is leaving the courthouse in a huff. Ilgaz calls again and tells Pars to come to the scene. He says, get ready, I will need to recuse myself from handling Serdar’s case. My family is involved.

secrets #78 part 4

Merve meets Tugce and Parla. Tugce is angry with her. Where have you been? We did everything to save our asses, but you don’t care. I gave a statement, Merve replies. She says Eren told her they did too. What did you say? Tugce snaps back, if you hadn’t vanished, you would know. Are you scared now? Yes, I’m scared, Merve answers.

Parla tells them to stop arguing. Merdan and Cinar show up. Merdan is concerned when he hears Merve gave a statement. He asks, what did you tell the police? I said I went to school and then had dinner at Mrs. Gul’s house. Not the same story the others told. Merdan tells everyone to keep calm and says, let’s go.

A forensic team with Goksu shows up at the crime scene. Ilgaz gives directions. This is likely a crime scene. We believe Serdar Denzi was killed here. Two gunshots were heard in the area, but according to the autopsy report, he died due to a blow on the head. Find weapons, bullets, shell casings. Get to work and search. Look for blood. Take samples of everything you find so we can compare it to the deceased’s blood.

Ceylin is waiting impatiently for Merdan to arrive. That’s it, time is up, she declares and picks up her phone to call the police. Merdan shows up just in time. Hear us out before you make that call. Merdan tells her, we saw Serdar on the day he was murdered.

Ilgaz finds the piece of paper that fell from Parla’s pocket. He asks Eren, what is the name of Tugce and Parla’s school? Is there a cafeteria there? Ferhan High School, and yes, there’s a cafeteria. Both men look sick.

Pars arrives. Ilgaz tells him he thinks this is the place where Serdar was killed. Parla, Cinar, Merve and Tugce were here that day. How could that be, Pars asks, are you sure? Eren says, they claimed to be cooking that day. Some went shopping and then returned to Gul’s house. It seems they lied. Ilgaz adds, their phone records on that day indicate they were here, and the evidence confirms it. Someone reported hearing two gunshots. We found an empty bullet shell under some fresh plaster.

Yekta gets impatient waiting for his visitor. There’s a knock at the door. A young man walks in. Hello, sir. Are you available, he asks, I’m not interrupting, am I? Lacin smiles, no we were expecting you. Come in. Yekta says he doesn’t have much time. So, tell me who you are and what you want. Lacin prompts, go ahead, Omer.

He starts, my name is Omer. I was born in 1994 in Gemlik [that’s in Bursa Province]. I studied in the same school until I graduated. Then I wanted to become a lawyer. I wanted to study in Istanbul. But it didn’t happen. So I attended school in Izmir.

Yekta asks him to get to the point—you’re looking for a job. Lacin leans over and touches Omer’s hand. She says, tell him who you are. You have to tell him. Omer looks at Yekta and blurts—you’re my father.

And we are out.

secrets

Well, the sound miraculously reappeared on my 10 year old television. Hope that weird thing was not a harbinger of future troubles.

Thanks so much, dondi. And I am happy for you that we've got a 3-day reprieve from the two-hour episodes.

I loved Ilgaz telling Yekta what should have been said to him months ago. If you want to see an official person in Istanbul, ask for an appointment.

So the kiddos phones stayed in that location all night? Do they have them back? I can't remember any phone calls by them.

I know the writers wrote it that way, but I found it kind of unbelievable that Ilgaz was able to find that bullet hole that looked as if Merdan had spackled over. Shades of the bullet hole behind the birdhouse.

I have a feeling this Omer may be as bad or maybe even worse than Engin. My flesh crawls at Yekta living at Lacin's house. For heaven's sake, throw him out, Lacin. She can see he's doing well.

Again, thanks, dondi. I'm sorry I couldn't produce the quickie for Tuesday's episode, but I'm glad my TV somehow recovered.

Secrets

Thank you, dondi356.

I was wondering what's the solution to Pars and Derya's situation that Ilgaz was thinking about? Ask Derya to marry Pars? Was that what he did and she ran out?

Another puzzle, what does Merdan want with the boys that found Serdar? Find out if they were sent by someone? Like Yekta?

Well, it didn't take long to discover the gang was lying. Both Ilgaz and Ceylin were as efficient as ever in figuring things out.

Secrets

Gracias, Dondi.

I detest Yekta, but even without him going to the tabloids, Derya and Pars would get outed eventually. I figured getting married and not working together was in their future. Of course, Derya is right in that this will hit her career more than his.

Yay, Ilgaz and Eren, plus Ceylin, prove they are no dummies. But now what? If the blow by shovel is the cause of death, looks like Gul could be heading to a jail cell. I don't know what it is, maybe her hair?, but Gul is looking younger to me these days.

I don't like Lacin being hoodwinked by Yekta, but it's great that she's (unintentionally) sticking it to him by bringing his son into his life.

secrets

Thanks for your comments, everyone.

Glad you're TV is working again, novelera. I wish we had one hour eps every night. I thought it was strange, too, that Ilgaz found that plastered wall and started scratching at it. I also have mala espina about Omer.

Yes, Lucio, it didn't take long for Ilgaz and Ceylin to figure things out. Metin gave Ilgaz a big clue when he mention he went to Gul's house in the afternoon and no one was home.

ITA, Niecie, this "scandal" will affect Derya more than Pars. I wonder if there will be a marriage proposal coming?

I think we are going to continue getting flashbacks for a while before the whole story is revealed.

Recap coming now.

Secrets #79 part 1

Quote for Turkish ep #46: "I don't wish to know anyone well enough to understand when they are lying." - Tezer Özlü

Omer drops the baba bomba on Yekta. He explains, my mother worked at your office in Mecidiyeköy 29 years ago. If you say so, Yekta replies. He laughs, I’ve worked with so many people that it would be hard for me to remember your mother. Lacin tells Omer to show a picture of his mother. Yekta studies the picture…. Her name was… Omer fills in the blank—Esin. Esin Nataner.

Lacin asks Yekta, were you in a relationship with her? I was much younger 29 years ago, Yekta answers, but I wouldn’t call it a relationship. He turns to Omer, you went to law school. You know this isn’t the way to do this. You can’t show up at my office and call yourself my son without knowing if I’m really your father.

Yekta continues, you’re an adult. You probably have some trauma, abandonment issues, or a personality disorder [probably all of those]. You are who you are now, congratulations. I don’t think you need a father now. Omer just stares blankly at Yekta.

Lacin steps in, don’t be ridiculous. Everyone needs a father, no matter what age! [but no one deserves a father like Yekta.] Everyone needs to know their parents, know their roots. Do you expect me to hug him, Yekta grumbles. Here’s what we’ll do, Lacin responds, you’re going to take a paternity test. He’s also looking for a job. You’re both lawyers. Give him a job and let him get to know you. Yekta is not pleased.

Pars wants to get everyone’s statements. We see everyone arriving at the station. Ceylin calls Ilgaz. She tells him that everyone lied about Serdar and where they were the day of the dinner. My mother, Aylin, the girls, Osman, they all lied. Your grandfather is also involved. Ilgaz is surprised to hear about grandpa. Ceylin says she brought them all to the station to give statements.

Ilgaz tells Pars and Eren that Ceylin brought everyone to the station. Pars asks, they went willingly? They lied, Ilgaz replies, but now they are going to tell the truth. Pars puts Goksu in charge of the scene.

Yekta opens the door as a signal for Omer to leave. The young man says, it was a pleasure to meet you, sir, and he holds out his hand for a shake. Yekta gives one grudgingly. Lacin asks Omer to wait downstairs and she’ll meet him soon.

Yekta confronts Lacin, so that boy is my son? I’m insulted. He’s nowhere near my gene pool! He’s not my son! It’s a lie! You’ll do the DNA test, Lacin replies, I’ll remind you of what you said when we get the results. Yekta protests, he’s not a child! He’s 29! An adult! What’s the point of having a father now? I’ll soon leave this Earth and his dream of having a father will be short lived. I’m dying.

Lacin finally calls Yekta out on his lie. Yekta, you’ve grown older, your lies were believable once. You were better at putting them together at least. I never believed that you were dying. I acted like that for Omer’s sake. I learned the truth when he found me. I didn’t want him to be ashamed to see you living in a dump. That’s why I moved you into my home.

You’ve become a really good actress, Yekta replies, are you taking lessons? You will do that test, Lacin responds. If the results show that you are Omer’s father, you’ll acknowledge that young man as your son. You’ll give him a job and a room at the house. Or, I won’t hesitate to kick you out. She leaves.

An excruciating wait at the station. Rafet makes an appearance and sees our family members waiting. He zeroes in on Cinar. What’s going on tea boy? Are you hosting a family reunion? Merdan signals his grandson to keep quiet.

Secrets #79 part 2

Rafet continues to provoke, all your relatives are here, no one’s missing. Go on, get me some tea. You wanted to perform for your audience, didn’t you? You ought to be ashamed! Where are your manners? The staff is waiting for you.

Ceylin has had enough. She says Cinar is here to give his statement. Is that so, Rafet asks. He smiles, so you’re being punished. Your teachers finally complained about you? Well, well, you’re in for a beating. The a-hole finally walks away. What a disgusting smirk on Rafet’s face. I don’t know how Cinar managed to keep silent, but I’m glad he did.

Metin is on the internet. He’s reading an article, “Otizmle Yaşamak” – Living with Autism. He calls Umut to ask a small favor. Umut still refers to him as “Chief” and Metin reminds him that’s not his title anymore. Umut is happy to help.

Metin says, I’m going to give you two names, could you look them up in the database? Ayten Suatezin and Gorkem Pekaslan. [hopefully, that’s correct.] Look them up and call me back if you find anything. I’m looking for priors on Ayten, and Gorkem’s ID information. Find out who his parents are.

Umut mentions that Metin’s family is at the station. He asks, do you know what’s going on? Metin has no idea.

Ilgaz, Eren and Pars return to the station. It’s painful. Pars asks to speak with Ceylin.

Lacin takes Omer shopping. He will need a nice suit when he starts work. She talks about suits and colors, sweaters, and shoes. Omer does his staring thing. I wouldn’t know, Lacin Hanım, he says. We’ll find out once you try them on, she replies, I’ve really missed going shopping. Engin and I went shopping regularly. We talked a lot, grabbed something to eat and so on. [this is going to be another sick relationship]

Omer apologizes, I didn’t mean to make you sad. You didn’t, Lacin replies, I haven’t felt this happy since before he passed. Come on, let’s get you whatever you want. They enter the store. Omer says, Lacin Hanım, you’re very kind. Thank you, but I can’t accept this. Why not? I’ve never set foot in a store like this, he replies, everything is so expensive. I can’t do this to you.

Lacin says, Omer you are a charming young man. And you’re very honest, too. She puts her hand on his cheek. [Notice that Omer has a nervous tic, he scratches at the back of his neck?]

Pars asks Ceylin, what do you mean by they lied? She answers, things got messy when they tried to hold Serdar hostage. Eren asks where. She says, by the docks. They didn’t want him to escape. Ilgaz sighs. Pars asks who they are. First Cinar, then Parla, Merve and Tugce, she replies.

Ceylin looks at Ilgaz and asks, why won’t you look at me? Why haven’t you said a word? He tells her he’s not the DA on this case anymore. Pars says he took the case, he’s the DA. Eren tells her they found the scene— they were just there.

Well, since Ilgaz isn’t the DA, Ceylin says, I’ll represent them all. Ilgaz remarks, all of them? Yes, she replies, I doubt anyone will mind. And I don’t like those looks. That’s why I can’t let another lawyer represent them. Pars says, forget about the looks we’re giving you and tell us what they did and what happened. Ceylin says she can’t tell anything else. Choose who you will talk to so we can get started.

Ilgaz says he should leave. Pars tells him to wait. We’ll take their statements in the interrogation room. He tells Ilgaz he can listen to what they say. Ilgaz says no way…we’re related. There are rules. Those are my orders, Pars replies, you’ll listen to what they say from behind the mirror. I took the case and I’m not up to speed on the details. Help me. Let’s start with the adults while we wait for the juvenile experts. We’ll start with Cinar first.

Secrets #79 part 3

Metin arrives at the station and asks, what’s going on? Merdan says they have to give statements. What statements, Metin asks, are you trying to upset me? Gul says, Metin Bey, I’m very sorry. When fear get a hold of us… we made stupid mistakes.

Pars asks Cinar to tell what happened. I learned Serdar was going abroad. I learned a fake passport was being delivered to him. You knew the details, Eren asks. Not exactly, Cinar replies. How did you find him? I told you I’d been looking for him, Cinar answers, we used to hang out there. That’s why I checked the place several times a week. I had a feeling he’d be there, and he was.

A feeling, Pars asks. Ceylin says, it happens. Life is comprised of coincidences, feelings and intuition. Cinar continues, I spotted Serdar. I hid and called the girls.

Parla is questioned. Cinar told us. I was with the girls, and we headed over there.
Back to Cinar. When the girls arrived, we went up to the terrace. He had a bag with him, and I knew he was getting ready to escape. I asked and we started shoving each other. He took out a gun and pointed it at us. I jumped him and took the gun from him. And then I held him at gunpoint.

Gul says, we met with them after Parla called to say they found him. Pars asks, why didn’t you call Ceylin or Ilgaz? Gul is silent. Ceylin tells her she has to answer. I thought we were just going to talk to him, she replies.

So what happened next, Eren asks Aylin. I said I didn’t want to go, but no one listened to me.

Osman says, I realized it wasn’t safe for them. That kid was there, my daughter was there, too. So I went with them. We met up there.

Merdan says, I know a lot of people. I heard he’d bought a passport and I learned the time and place of the delivery. I went to the address.

Back to Gul. When we arrived, and while we spoke, he (Serdar) lost all self-control. He made up excuses and claimed it wasn’t his fault. He claimed to be innocent. He acted like he hadn’t really killed Zafer. That was very hurtful to us. I couldn’t stand it and Parla couldn’t either.

Parla admits she slapped Serdar when he said it. I couldn’t help myself, she cries, I couldn’t stand it. The expert tells Parla to have some water and calm down.

Cinar says, when Parla slapped him, I tried to intervene. But Serdar shoved me and I lost my footing, he took the gun. He pointed it at us and threatened to kill us.
I was trying to call Komiser Eren, Tugce says, but Serdar saw me, and he pointed his gun at me. I was scared. Then he took our phones. Where did he put the phones? In the bag, on the ground, Tugce replies. We see the flashback.

He was about to run, Gul says, he was getting away! I did something to stop him. So I could bring him in and make him pay for what he did. What did you do? There was a shovel on the ground, Gul answers, I took it. I felt so angry all of a sudden. I went crazy… and I hit him with it.

Flashback. Gul hits Serdar but he doesn’t go completely down. He turns and hits her with his bag. She hits her head on the wall and goes down. The others cry out. End flash.

Aylin says her mother crumpled and they were in shock. Then he hit my mom with his bag, she says, she fell and hit her head. You can check her wound. Aylin turns to Ceylin, you asked her why she had her hair up. She did it to hide the bandage.

Flashback. The girls rush to help Gul. The men try to stop Serdar. Serdar grabs Parla as a hostage. Osman moves forward and Serdar shoots him in the arm. Osman falls. End flash.

Secrets #79 part 4

Aylin says Serdar escaped while they cared for Osman. That bastard found the chance to get away, Cinar says. Merve says, I looked around and he was gone. They all say that Serdar escaped after he shot Osman.

Pars asks Merdan, why didn’t you get your phone then? We went after him to catch him, Merdan replies, I called out to the others, and we went.

Gul says she remembered the dinner. I wanted to get back. I figured we’d get him later. Pars asks, Osman was shot, was the dinner so important? I felt guilty, she replies, because we let him get away. We made a mess when we tried to do things on our own. We also had to bandage Osman’s arm.

Eren says, so what if he got away? Osman had been shot. Why didn’t you call us? The children were scared, she says, Osman was also worried. Then we started to lie and made a mess. We were scared that Ceylin would get upset. Then we heard he was dead. That scared us even more. We didn’t want anyone to be blamed, especially Cinar. [lol] That’s why I agreed to keep everything a secret. I thought it would be okay.

Cinar says he went back to get the phones. Eren asks, any blood, guns? Did anything stand out to you? No.

Pars gets up and leaves the room. He asks Ilgaz, is there anything else you’d like to ask? What do you think? Have Eren ask Merdan if he knows Mustafa, Ilgaz replies, he said he killed Serdar. Ask Parla if she saw blood when Gul hit Serdar with the shovel. Pars asks, you think Serdar was hit and then murdered somewhere else? Ilgaz doesn’t know but thinks Pars should still ask. Pars goes back into the room.

Eren has Merdan in his office. He shows him a picture of Mustafa. Did he tell you about the fake passport? Merdan says he doesn’t know the man, someone else tipped him off. Eren asks him to look again. Merdan says he doesn't know Mustafa.

Eren explains, this man said he killed Serdar. We figured out he was lying, that he made it up. Eren asks again, do you know anything? Did you have anything to do with it? Merdan says he’s got nothing to do with it. Eren keeps pressing. Merdan sticks with his answer.

Eren does not give up. The man came here and said he was given a passport. If Mustafa didn’t tell you, who did? How’d you know where he was? People talk, Merdan replies, someone told me. I don’t want to tell you and that’s within my rights. I told you everything I know. I’m not looking to become a snitch. I have nothing else to say!

Pars confirms with Parla, Serdar dragged you and held you by the hair. So you were close to him, right? Parla utters an uh, huh. He asks, was Serdar’s head bleeding after your grandmother hit him? Did you see blood? Ceylin tells her to try to remember. Parla answers, he wasn’t bleeding. She’s sure.

Ceylin asks, are we done? Pars says yes. He wants blood samples collected from everyone. Parla and the juvenile expert leave.

Ceylin says they kept everything a secret because they felt they made a mistake. They left the scene thinking it was the right thing to do. My sister’s ex and my mother were injured and Serdar managed to get away. We still have to find out where and how Serdar died. I’m sure you’ll find the answer.

Pars says, criminal acts took place, there’s no question. Intimidation, assault, abduction… so you know, we’re going to press charges against them. We’ll see what happens next.

Outside the station, Metin asks Eren, what’s going on? Why are they here? Why are my father and Gul here? Tell me, Eren.

Secrets #79 part 5

Cinar gets his blood sample taken and gets a tongue lashing from Ilgaz. [I think we could cut and paste this from previous.] How many times is this going to happen? [how many episodes will we have?] How many times are we going to walk down this road? Aren’t you tired, brother? I’m tired of watching you sully yourself and get in trouble!

“Ilgaz goes on and on.” Have you learned nothing so far? You should have learned to stay out of trouble. To call the police when something happens. Even a child learns not to touch the stove after it burns its hands. When a child falls, they learn to pick themselves up. Is it too hard to learn from your mistakes? [at this point I started laughing and couldn’t stop.] What are you trying to prove? Why are you doing this?

Ilgaz says he’s done. [but not really, he keeps talking.] He will turn his back on Cinar if he makes another mistake. He tells Cinar to get out.

Gul tries to talk to Ceylin… I know you’re angry. Ceylin interrupts, if only it was just angry. If only this was just a tantrum. Gul walks away.

Everyone leaves the station. Tugce apologizes to her dad. He walks away from her.

Gul asks Merdan, what do you think? Do you think they believed us? We get another flashback. Serdar has Parla and he’s threatening to kill everyone. They shout at him. Cinar says take me instead [if only]. Serdar threatens to kill Parla. Serdar leaves with Parla. Parla cries for her dad—call an ambulance. Cinar breaks away from Merdan and chases Serdar. The girls follow. Osman tries and can’t go very far. Merdan is moving very slowly. End flash.

Merdan tells Gul he doesn’t know. We’ll find out soon. We get a translation of the sign outside of the station. “We are all policed by our own conscience. But the police are against those without a conscience.”

And we are out.

Terrific recap, dondi. And ITA with all your asides. I got a kick out of "baba bomb" and "No one deserves a father like Yekta."

Lacin is pathetic. That conversation where Ceylin diagnosed what's going on with her is definitely proving true. For some sick reason she's trying to recreate the same unhealthy family she lived with all those years. I suspect Omer didn't take the expensive clothes so as to appear noble and hold out for the big payoff.

Come on, writers, give us some really BAD punishment for Rafet. The Chief of Police takes time to goad and insult a guy who delivers tea? I wonder if they'll ever explain how such a lazy, corrupt guy got a high position in Istanbul.

I'm glad to see Metin is looking into Ayten and Gorkem. I just want my curiosity satisfied.

I am glad to see the nice, familial thing going on with Metin and Gul. And, speaking of Gul, the actor is doing an excellent job. She's done a very effective 180.

Maybe it will still happen, but I think Ilgaz should have given Ceylin credit for her insisting on the kiddos coming in.

Ilgaz was echoing Viewerville when he chewed the hind end off Cinar.

I'm getting impatient with everything being doled out in flashbacks.

Thanks again, dondi!

secrets

Thanks novelera. ITA with you on Lacin, Omer, Rafet and the never ending flashbacks.

The actor playing Gul is doing a great job of alternating crazy with calm. BTW, she was in Kara Sevda with Kaan.

I'm also glad Metin investigated Ayten and Gorkem. I don't like his reaction but I think he will come around. There's a potential for a special relationship.

I'm surprised Cinar still has a "hind end", since it's already been chewed multiple times by Ilgaz and Metin.

Recap coming now.

secrets #80 part 1

Statements are reviewed. Everything fits. The hair in Serdar’s hand belongs to Parla. Ilgaz asks, was the tissue found under his fingernail’s also Parla’s? Eren says it could also be Cinar’s, he tried to recover the gun. Pars says, that would mean Serdar took the gun, left, and was murdered somewhere else by someone else. Eren notes there are a lot of people who’d want to kill a dog like Serdar.

Ilgaz would like to know where that bullet casing came from. He asks Eren, did you find a shovel? No. What happened to the shovel? Maybe someone took it, but who? Pars thinks they were telling the truth. We can’t say otherwise until we get more details.

Pars excuses himself from the room when he sees Derya in the hallway. He stops her and asks her how she’s doing. She says she’s fine. He thinks something is wrong and asks, are you worried? There’s a new development in the missing mother-daughter case, she replies, if you excuse me.

Derya goes to Rat-fet’s office. He’s being his usual lazy self. She wants to know what’s been found. What’s the rush, he asks, let me get you a tea. We don’t seem to speak the same language, Derya replies. She repeats, what have you found?

Rafet fumbles for notes… uh, we found… remember the woman who argued with Sevin? Dila. We found footage of it on social media. He shows a clip on his phone. He asks Derya, do you have an idea who Dial is? Take a guess. Derya says Rafet is trying her patience. Get to the point! Who is she! Rafet answers, she’s Arda’s SIL, his brother’s wife.

Ilgaz meets Ceylin outside the station. She immediately tells him she didn’t know (about everyone’s lies), she just found out. I called you as soon as I found out, she says. I told them they had to give statements. He hushes her, calm down, I know. I never doubted you.

Ceylin laments, why is this happening again? When do we graduate from the Trouble Academy? Ilgaz doesn’t know. What he does know is he is very tired. She is too. If it weren’t for you, Ceylin says, I wouldn’t be able to stand it. I’d call it quits. They hug.

The Fantastic Four have a restaurant dinner together. They talk about how they were fooled by their families and friends. Eren says, an AG, a DA, Chief of Police, a komiser, and a lawyer. We believed them. Pars quips, we were blinded by the hummus, it was very good. Ilgaz says it was the thrill of finally becoming a family that blinded us to their mistakes. I didn’t think they’d ever stoop so low. Ha, ha, he says he could “go on and on”.

Ceylin notes that Aylin was acting strange but that’s how she normally is. It’s terrible what they hid from us. We fell for it, Pars says, I understand the kids. And Merdan—he’s cool-headed and sticks to his ways. But I was surprised by Gul Teyze, I never saw that coming. She seemed like a reasonable woman [that’s because Pars never saw what we saw].

Ilgaz says they were going to get caught. Why did they lie? Eren replies, we gave them an opening. We asked them to help in the investigation and they felt they were doing something great. Ceylin says she hopes they changed their minds. [Turkish] I’m going to hit them with a wet slipper from the bathroom.

Pars muses, when you think about it, we shouldn’t be so hard on Gul. When you lose a loved one, you want to know why they were taken. You want to look the killer in the eye and ask why. Ilgaz says that’s right. And that’s why we have the justice system. Ceylin admits she wanted to confront Serdar, too. That’s why he should have been taken into custody, Ilgaz says, there’s no way to excuse this.

Umut calls Metin. He found everything on Ayten and Gorkem.

secrets #80 part 2

The guilty parties meet at Merdan’s place for a debriefing. Aylin asks Gul, did you tell them about your head wound and the rest? No, Gul replies, I told them what happened. I said I hit him with the shovel. Cinar says, they found blood and collected samples. His blood will be there, too. Tugce panics, they’ll find out he died there. It’s over.

Osman says it means nothing. His blood is there, and he didn’t die there. How many lies have we told, Tugce says, if we mess up, they’ll be looking our way again. Parla asks, were any of you asked if Serdar was bleeding? No one else was. Tugce remembers, didn’t we agree to say he wasn’t bleeding if we were asked? Yes.

Merdan tells them to silence the voices in their heads and calm down. Everything we said was true. We told them what was necessary. We all left out the same part of the story. Then there’s nothing to worry about. Get some rest.

Metin knocks at Ayten’s door. He confronts her. Why did you lie to me? She doesn’t understand. You’re not Gorkem’s mother, he replies. I checked the hospital records and did research. I know his parents are dead. The nurse said, “Ayten is here.” She never said you were his mother. Why? This is a family home. We trusted you. You lied to us. Give me an answer. Who are the boy’s guardians? Ayten answers, you should ask your father, Metin Bey. He can tell you.

Ceylin asks the men, do you have any suspects? Who do you think killed Serdar? Eren says there are no suspects. We’ll keep looking, Ilgaz says. Eren gets a call. He thinks it must be Rafet. Ceylin comments that Rafet is awful. It’s Goksu calling. Eren leaves the table to take the call.

Goksu says they are leaving the scene. They collected blood samples and a lot of other evidence. Eren asks if she found a shovel. No. What about the shell of the bullet that hit Osman? We didn’t find that either, she replies. Any weapons? No, Komiser, I would have called you. Eren says to run the tests and let him know. He returns to the table to give the update.

Eren turns to Pars. Where is DA Derya? We haven’t filled her in yet. Pars says he texted her to tell her where they were. She left me on read and didn’t reply. Is this my fault, Ceylin asks, she didn’t come because of me? Pars thinks it’s because of him.

Derya visits Arda in holding. We discovered it, she says, we know. We know your wife argued with your SIL. The rest is up to you. Take that into consideration. You have time to think here. Tell us what you did to your wife and daughter, or you can spend the rest of your life behind bars. Talk and end this.

Pars says he never met a more irrational person in his life. I kneeled, I held her hand, the works. Was she expecting a bouquet of flowers, too? I didn’t say, “let’s end this. Let’s just get married.” He looks around and asks, what did I do wrong? Tell me, Ceylin, as a woman, please tell me what I did wrong. Did I make a mistake?

Ceylin replies, no, not at all. But you suggested a marriage of convenience as a solution. It worked in your case, Pars says, didn’t it? It’s not the same, Ceylin laughs, this is different, you were already in a relationship. When we got married, we weren’t emotionally involved.

Ilgaz shoots her a look. Eren has a knowing smile. What are you saying? The courthouse was on fire! Ceylin denies it. She says, we sat down, got married and left. Ilgaz says that’s not how he remembers it. How do you remember it, she asks. He’ll tell her later. [Ahem…]

secrets #80 part 3

Pars says the plan could’ve worked. Besides, you suggested it, Ilgaz. Eren says that’s true. Ilgaz admits it and adds, but I thought you’d plan a proposal. I didn’t think you’d just come out and say it. You’re a romantic, so I thought you’d do something nicer. [Turkish] So… I acted like a donkey? Pars grumbles, I get it. They laugh. He blurts—don’t laugh! [I laughed too. Pars’ expressions are priceless.]

Metin is on the spot when Merdan and Cinar come home. Lies and secrets have become a habit, hasn’t it? He blames Merdan. Grandpa answers, you’re completely different? Yes, I made a mistake, Metin replies, one mistake. Bu you, this is your profession. He turns to Cinar, what did you drag them into? Allah aşkına, we just patched things up with those people!

Cinar tries to speak. Metin shuts him up. You never listen to me anyway! I warned you many times! I told you to stay away from him! I told you to work at a decent job! Everyone had to visit the station thanks to you!

Are you done reprimanding me, Merdan asks. Metin replies, no! Not yet, Merdan Efendi, I’m just getting started. Who is that woman? Who are the boy’s parents? How are you involved? She sent me away and told me to ask you!

I’ll tell you if you calm down, Merdan says. The child’s parents are dead. The father used to beat the mother. I killed the father with my bare hands. Metin is horrified. You killed a man and brought his son to my house? Merdan fully admits it. I couldn’t stop him from torturing the boy’s mother. But I was able to help Gorkem. That bastard was going to sell his heart and kidneys, but I stopped him, Merdan growls. I protected him and brought him here with me.

I understand, Metin says, you used us again. “I’m here so we can be a family.” What happened to that? You didn’t come here to get your family back, Merdan Kaya. You came to soothe your conscience by giving that child a family. You were going to atone for your sin in this house and then you planned to leave! I wondered why you hadn’t left. I thought you’d changed.

Merdan says, think what you want. Metin wants him out of the house immediately. We see Defne peeking around a corner. Merdan replies, this is your house and you’ve made your decision. He turns and goes. Cinar says he’s going with Grandpa. Metin shouts, stay where you are! You’re not going anywhere! Cinar goes anyway. Defne is upset.

Ayten is standing in the rain when Merdan comes out of the house. It’s my fault, right? Merdan assures her it’s fine, don’t worry. Look after Gorkem, okay? Stay here until I get back. I’ll take care of it.

The check is paid. Pars says goodnight. I’ll go home and mope while I think of a way to redeem myself. Ceylin says she’s available 24/7 for advice. Eren says he’s going back to the station. Ceylin wants to dispute that Ilcey set the courthouse on fire. He hums a lovely tune on his way out.

Ceylin turns to Ilgaz, so you suggested they marry? I suggested an option, Ilgaz replies, it was a comment, but it seems everything got misconstrued. She says it made sense, although the situation was different. She’s still debating the lack of emotional attachment they had at the time of their wedding. We were angry with each other, she says.

You think so, Ilgaz argues. Hatred is an emotion too, counselor. Big love stories are born out of strong hatred [ask any TN or dizi viewer]. When we sat at that table…well, well, well… the anger changed into who knows what. I know myself well, she says. He counters, you do, but do you know your unconscious desires? Face it, Avukat Hanım, you were in love with me.

secrets #80 part 4

If that is the case, Ceylin says, I’ll remind you of something important. Your subconscious, organized self, proposed to me. I won’t argue, Ilgaz replies, I knew the moment I saw those beautiful eyes. What did you know, she asks. That I would die for you, he responds. She doesn’t like that. He clarifies, he’d die from love. [I hope he doesn't die because of her.]

Rat-fet is giving an update to Yekta on the Serdar case. They said he escaped, but they swear they didn’t kill him. They don’t know who did it. Rafet doesn’t believe it. He says forensics is investigating again. They are running tests. We’ll find out if the statements are true. Yekta says to keep him informed.

Weepy Parla is in her room. Aylin comes to her, tells her not to worry and get some sleep. She has something to tell her mom. She says, I think I was the only one who was asked if Serdar was bleeding. Why do you think that is, she asks her mother. Aylin has no idea. The cops question everyone and ask different questions. We told them Serdar dragged you by the hair. Maybe they asked because you were closest to him. What else could it be?

Cinar asks Merdan if he really came back because of the boy. Merdan says yes, at first. But then I got to meet my brilliant grandchildren. I’m proud of my family. I came back because of the boy, but I stayed for you. Cinar doesn’t understand how they can help the boy.

Merdan says, you’ll care for him, so I won’t have to worry about him. Cinar asks, what does that mean? Merdan puts his cards on the table. My health isn’t good. The doctors say I don’t have much time left. I’ve actually outlived their expectations. I’m alive out of stubbornness and because I love my family.

Cinar is emotional. He gets up to go. Merdan grabs him… don’t go. Running doesn’t change anything. I spent my life running and look at me now. I don’t even have a place to stay. I don’t have much time left, so don’t run away. Listen to your grandfather. This place is all I have. Look after Gorkem. God created some people to help find the good in us again. Gorkem is one of those people. He is a pure soul, he’s innocent. He’s fragile, too. Be calm, your father’s heart isn’t as hard as ours. He will take responsibility. Don’t be like me. Look after your family. I understood it when it was too late. The family is real. Everything else, riches, power, is a lie.

Cinar doesn’t want to hear any more. Tell me you’re joking. Look at me, Merdan says, don’t you dare hurt my dear Parla. Value her. Cinar jumps from his seat and gives his grandpa a teary hug. [I felt that scene.]

Ilcey arrive home. Ceylin is still upset with her family. If they had told me about it from the start, maybe none of this would have happened. She gets emotional. I’ve always been there for them, to protect them. I didn’t want to be like them. I tried to forgive. I always tried to get our relationship back. I repressed my feelings, but… I’m heartbroken.

Ceylin continues, I’ll interact with them as a lawyer, but I want nothing personal to do with them again. No sister, daughter, aunt. I want them to be aware of their actions. If I pretend nothing happened, they’ll do it again. They’ll think I’ll forgive them. Don’t try to change my mind.

As you wish, Ilgaz replies. He goes to her. If they’ve made you cry, if this is how you really feel, we’ll do what you want. Whatever you want. Song is Sar Bu Şehri.

We see Tugce on her phone, but she quickly pretends to be asleep when Eren comes home.

Pars sends a text to Derya: what did I do wrong? She reads it and puts her phone down.

Cinar calls Parla. He cries, my grandfather is dying! He told me! What am I going to do? I’ll be here for you, she replies. I’m always here for you. [let’s hope these stupid kids will use birth control]

secrets #80 part 5

Looks like a sleepless night for Ilcey, but not out of pleasure.

Ceylin asks Ilgaz to take her to the courthouse. Derya visited Arda in his cell last night and she threatened him. Ilgaz defends her—she was probably giving him a warning. Ah, when the DA does it, it’s a warning, she replies, but when I do it, it’s a threat. Ilgaz mumbles under his breath, Ceylin Erguvan Kaya sharpens her sword. She tells him—I heard that. He says he feels sorry for Derya right now.

Eren asks Tugce where she’s going. She has her school uni on. Tugce tells him she meets up with friends at a sandwich place before class. He says, tell your friends you’re having breakfast with me today. Tugce worries.

Aylin leaves the house and Fake Cetin is waiting for her. Can we talk? We have nothing to discuss, she replies. What about the shootout, he asks, what’s going on? Was your husband shot? Are you in trouble, darling? None of your business, she says and walks. He grabs her. What do you mean? You involved me by saying my name. Your name? What’s your name, she asks.

The Faker asks again, what’s going on? Why are you silent? How dare you ask, Aylin replies. It’s not good to ask questions that won’t be answered. She walks and he calls out—I wasn’t going to tell you and I really shouldn’t. But I’ll tell you anyway. If you don’t mind, let’s go somewhere quieter.

Let’s talk while we eat, Eren tells Tugce, especially given your interest in police cases. Two shots were fired on the terrace. We didn’t find empty casings. Empty casings? Eren shows her a bullet. He points out the casing and explains what happens when a gun is fired. The casing falls to the ground. We searched the scene and didn’t find any casings. We couldn’t find the shovel used to hit Serdar either. Eren says, we believe someone cleaned up and got rid of evidence.

Tugce says she likes police investigations but we’re not the kind to get rid of evidence. Did I suggest such a thing, Eren replies. Someone could have done it for you. We told you what we know, she says, we don’t know anything else. Eren tells her, you should know this, Ms. Tugce, if we’re to live here happily as father and daughter, we can’t keep secrets from each other. We can’t lie to each other.

Ceylin asks Ilgaz if Eren has results yet. Ilgaz hasn’t heard anything. Tolga is at the courthouse. Ceylin is going to join him. She tells Ilgaz to wish Derya good luck. Tolga tells Ceylin that Dila is there, Derya is questioning her. Ha, ha, Tolga adds you won’t believe this… Dila is the SIL! Ceylin acts surprised.

Dila tells Derya, I’m embarrassed. I know this is hard to understand and accept. I had a hard time accepting it, too. He’s my husband’s brother. Derya hands her the tissue box. Dila continues, we are really in love. Derya asks, does Arda know that his wife knew about the affair? Yes. What did he say? How did he react? Was he happy? Sad? Did he plan to do something about it? Dila doesn’t know. She cries.

Rafet brings Arda up from the cell. Ceylin has the chance to speak with Arda. I’ll get to the point, she says, things have escalated. Are you having an affair with your SIL?

And we are out.

secrets

Another great recap, dondi. So many asides. Could you see my head nodding in agreement here in California?

Ilgaz keeps picking Merdan's careful narrative apart. I am confused about the bullet casing. Later Eren says no bullet casings were found, but they showed one being removed from that hole in the wall. So...one is missing? I guess I thought the bullet in the wall came from when we saw Osman get shot. Guess we'll have to wait for the flashback.

Oooooh! I loved RAT-FET! I'd like to see Eren as the cat who catches him.

Got a kick out of aside that Pars never saw Gul in her "natural habitat".

I love how Umut can't stop saying Jefe and Metin corrects him, but smiles.

I'm not sure what Pars and Derya marrying would solve. Is this part of a cultural taboo against unmarried people having sex?

Metin figured out what Merdan was doing. In an earlier scene we saw Merdan telling Gorkem that he was going to have a family, a sister. We didn't know he'd killed the father at that point so didn't think guilt was a part of it.

I don't see the point of the writers having Ceylin and Derya angry with each other. They were getting along so well when they were trying to help Ilgaz from being blamed for purposely killing Burak.

Parla and Cinar? Idiot Parla was batting her eyes at Burak a while back. I guess all we can hope for is that somehow Merdan and Metin's genes make it into Cinar's sperm.

Thanks again, dondi. I am also desperately hoping Eren was somehow wrong about Ilgaz being dead.

telemundo

Whatever happened to El Conde? Now they are advertising a novela entitled Vuelve a Mí. Sorry, unless William Levy has managed to spend time with a diction coach, I'm not looking forward to seeing the famous mumbler once again. Plus he often seems to me to be peering over the shoulder of the female protagonist to see how he looks in a nearby mirror.

telemundo

Novelera, I totally agree. I gave up on William Levy some time ago and have no intention of watching Vuelve a Mí. Like you, I'm wondering what happened to El Conde. Sigh.

Telemundo

Novelera, I will give William's new show a peek.

Who is in " El Conde?"

Secrets

Thank you, dondi356.

I enjoyed the dinner of the four amigos. A little fun on Pars' account.

Why didn't they show Pars' proposal? Or were they holding it for a flashback?

I am curious why Ilgaz wanted to ask Parla about Serdar bleeding. He may be setting a trap for Parla for future questioning.

telemundo

Sorry, Susan. I missed the last part of your comment. El Conde was supposedly filming with Fernando Colunga, one of my all-time faves.
