Thanks for commenting, novelera and Niecie.

I saw the Kafka quote and immediately thought of Ilgaz because he married crazy Ceylin twice, not to mention the possibility she might kill him with a knife! But this quote certainly could apply to others in the dizi.

ITA on Eren, novelera. He’s got a big heart.

“This whole tragedy looks like it could have been written by the ancient Greeks.” Lol, the Greeks were in “Turkey” before the Turks arrived. Complicated history but lots of cultural similarities.

You’re right: “I think Ceylin lied about her involvement so she could be around to defend her family.” But she broke the law just like the others. Ilgaz knows she lied. He started to say something, but Pars shut him up.

Yeah… Tugce’s mother…

“Rat-fer must be in on the "frame Haluk" plot with Yekta.” It’s likely.

I’m with you, Niecie, “Ilgaz and Ceylin need to throw in the towel. I resent her calling him "Mr. Perfect."

“seeing Yekta at the dump was unbelievable.” I know, right? I saw him rooting around in the garbage with his bare hands, it even made me wince. I’m surprised he didn’t die of disgust on the spot.

OT Yargı (Secretos de Sangre)

Yargı (Family Secrets) has been nominated for “Best Telenovela” at the 2023 International Emmy Awards. Ceremony is in NYC on November 20. No acting nominations. I wonder if Kaan and/or Pinar will be here. Hmmm...

I missed my chance to meet Engin Akyürek years ago when he was in NYC. He was nominated for best actor (KPA). I was out of town! There was a lucky Caraymate who met him.

Also of note, Yargı season three premiered in Turkey on Sunday night. It had very good ratings. Other than that, I'm avoiding all info. Not sure if I will start watching the new season after we are done on Telemundo. We have 13 Turkish eps left.

"SECRETOS"/"VUELVE A MI"
Dondi356: 13 episodes left of "SECRETOS" means, only a matter of time before we see the upcoming Telenovela "VUELVE A MI" starring William Levy & Samadahi Zendejas which airs on October 9th.

secrets and OT

Wow! I'd walk a mile to be near Engin Akyurek. That man has sex appeal for miles.

Hmmm. A third season of "Secrets". This looks like a strong sign Ilgaz wasn't stabbed to death. I am also on the fence about watching another season. I sort of feel like I've seen enough.

Secrets #86 part 1

Parla knocks at the door of Metin Kaya’s house. Defne answers. Come in quickly, before someone sees you. How did you know I was coming, Parla asks.

Eren tells Ceylin they have a search warrant for her house and office. If you help us, we’ll get over this quickly.

Ilgaz says he found nothing about the brief blackout. Everyone was sitting in place, except for Metin, he was in the restroom. Pars concludes that Parla got a lucky opportunity.

Ilgaz asks Derya if she would share info on her case. He thanks Pars. Pars tells Ilgaz he’s just doing his job. He says he’s also mad at Ceylin, and adds, if you put yourself in her position… Ilgaz interrupts— sorry, I’m done talking about this. Good night. Ilgaz leaves the station without a word to Ceylin.

Derya asks Pars, what’s going to happen now? If they can get through this, Pars replies, nothing will ever come between them. Right now, everything is stormy. It’s worse now that Parla ran away. Ceylin asked for more time and took them to the airport. She said she tried to stop them, but they wouldn’t listen. I doubt Ilgaz believed her story. I can’t believe Derya says she can’t blame Ceylin.

Metin checks on Parla. She’s sleeping in a bedroom. There’s an uneaten sandwich on the night table.

Defne tells her dad that Parla cried a lot when she got there. I made a smiley-face sandwich for her, but she didn’t laugh. Let her rest, Metin says, she needs a good night’s sleep. Then she’ll have your sandwich and smile. Let’s keep this a secret between us, Metin says. Don’t tell anyone.

Are we liars now, Defne asks. What do you mean, Metin replies, of course not. She asks, doesn’t keeping this from everyone mean we’re lying? [yes, Defne.] Metin explains, sometimes people just have to do things. If we’re doing something good and it makes us happy, we shouldn’t call it lying. [this is so wrong. I can’t believe Metin is covering for another crime and telling Defne, it’s okay.] There are things that don’t need to be said out loud.

Metin continues, you don’t know how much we owe Ceylin’s family. We’re repaying a debt. No one will look for Parla here, that’s why she will stay with us for a while. A little while… and we will keep it a secret. Defne laments, oh, Dad, why do we have to keep so many secrets? When will it stop?

Eren drops Ceylin off at the Kaya house. She asks, if you had received the email instead of Ilgaz, would you have kept it a secret? Eren sighs. She asks, if I’d begged and pleaded, would you have hidden it? He can’t answer. Ceylin continues, if you’d found out that I planned to help her escape, would you have chased after me?

Please don’t ask, Eren replies, these are difficult questions. Ceylin thinks they’re easy. But you won’t answer so you don’t make Ilgaz look bad. Don’t be like that, Eren says, you’re both too stubborn. You’re going to self-destruct. Ceylin says, we know what’s going to happen. This is the end of the road. We won’t forgive each other. She gets out of the car. [Sorry, I’m on Ilgaz’s side in this. Ceylin is wrong, wrong, wrong.]

Ceylin knocks on Metin’s door. She hands him a letter for Parla that he gives to the girl. Ceylin enters her apartment. Ilgaz is there, they don’t speak to each other, and Ceylin goes straight to the bedroom.

Parla reads the letter:

Parla, I’m in your room as the police are looking for you. From here, they’ll go to Osman’s, Merdan’s, and my office. They are looking for you everywhere. They’ll follow me and everyone who’d contact you. They will do whatever it takes to find leads. We all need to be very careful, especially you. So be sure to hide.

Don’t make trouble for Metin Bey, who opened the door to his home. We’ve lost so much and we’re weak, don’t make it worse. Be patient. We can’t see you or visit. We can’t call you. Don’t try to call, meet or talk to any of us. I know it will be difficult. But I’ll work to speed things up as much as I can.

secrets #86 part 2

Please, let’s not make any mistakes this time. But don’t worry, if need be, I’d sell my soul to keep you out of prison [already done!] Knowing that you’re safe, sound, and well-hidden is my only motivation. I love you very much. Hang in, this will soon be over. End letter.

Ceylin leaves the house without looking or speaking to Ilgaz.

Ilgaz visits Merdan. Merdan is anxious to know how things are at home. He asks about Defne. Ilgaz hugs his grandpa. Merdan looks shocked. Ilgaz says that Defne misses her grandpa and waits for his return. I’ll tell her you’re okay. The men sit.

I’m upset with you, Ilgaz says, you committed a crime and you’re where you belong. You broke Defne’s heart. Defne and I thought you let her down, but it turns out you were helping another girl. Merdan answers, don’t mention it. I’m at the end of my life and Parla is just starting to live. I’m not excusing this, Ilgaz replies, a part of me is still angry and offended. I was hard on you… forgive me, Grandpa.

Shocked Merdan says, don’t worry, grandson. What matters is that we’re fine. You hugged this old man. And yes, it’s not easy to be Merdan Kaya, a very unpredictable man. But we understand each other. Now I can die in peace.

Derya and Pars walk the courthouse hall. She says, after the interrogations and after going over the evidence, I was exhausted when I got home at 3a. Same here, Pars replies, and I still worked from home. We’re workaholics. Derya says, we do what the job requires.

Derya likes how she does things. Otherwise, I feel like I’m bossing people around. And if I’m not around, I don’t get a say. Pars says, we shouldn’t forget about our own lives while we help others. We shouldn’t postpone preparations due to work. Derya says they won’t.

Ceylin arrives and asks Pars, will you send them to the judge now? Pars says they are on their way. He wants to speak with Ceylin in his office.

How are you, Pars asks. I don’t know, Ceylin replies, I feel like I’m on the verge of crumbling, but I have to keep going. I’d like to resolve this quickly, legally, he tells her, while inflicting the least amount of damage to those involved. I don’t know about that, she says, but thank you.

Pars asks, when did you find out? She replies, as their lawyer, I can’t answer that. Forget I asked, Pars says. It’s my understanding that you found out a little before we did. I’ll continue like that. They will go before the judge and it’s likely they will be remanded into custody.

Ceylin says she will oppose it. Tolga is already working on the motion. If I can show the judge the recording, I’ll ensure they can remain free before trial. Pars says he started drafting the indictment last night. It’s my understanding that you’ll hide Parla until the initial hearing, so I want this over quickly, before the number of charges grow, before relationships break down, and we reach the point of no return. If there’s anything else I can do, I will. Ceylin thanks him… she won’t forget this. And she says BTW, we are at the point of no return.

Arda walks up to Ceylin outside of the AG’s office. He’s angry. My wife and daughter are missing, and my lawyer is MIA! Forget being my lawyer, we’re friends! You were the first one I called when I needed help, but you didn’t bother attending my hearing. You sent your intern. Arda works up a head of steam. He calls her unethical. Is my life worth so little to you?

Ceylin tries to calm him down. He can’t. My wife and daughter are still missing! She tries to explain that she’s in a bad situation, too. He’s not very understanding. She says she’ll speak with DA Derya and find out what’s going on.

secrets #86 part 3

Ceylin goes to Derya and asks about Arda’s wife and daughter. Did you ask the police, Derya answers, you were right, and I was wrong. No body, no murder. Ceylin is surprised and asks, something happened, what did you find? Derya gives a non-answer. Ceylin says she will figure it out.

Ilgaz and Ceylin cross paths in the hallway. Just looks, no words.

The culprits are brought to the courthouse. Tugce asks her dad if they will let them go. Eren hopes so.

Pars tells Ilgaz he’s trying to get things done asap. Ilgaz is sorry that Pars is caught in the middle. Pars is trying to remain objective. He asks Ilgaz how he’s doing and if there’s anything he can do for him. Ilgaz tells him the path of honesty leads to a lifetime of loneliness. Neither Ceylin nor my family is with me.

Ceylin is also a victim of her family, Pars says, she was trapped and couldn’t act freely [sorry, I’m not buying it.] Ilgaz replies, we don’t get to choose our family or parents. But you can choose who you become, where you go, who you spend time with. I’m tired of losing myself and picking myself back up. [I’m tired of writing about it, Ilgaz.] When I try to make things better, I feel guiltier.

Pars says Ilgaz is right, but he should look at the bigger picture. Ceylin tried to do things your way and do what’s right. We should give her that much. [I think Pars is giving her too much.] She was a victim of her family’s actions. Our families make or break us. It’s hard to remain neutral. When you’re stuck, you revert to your old self. It applies to Ceylin. She’s your complete opposite, but you still fell for her. Ilgaz says, no matter who I pick, it comes down to her or me.

Rat-fet tells Derya the knife used to kill that guy… uh, sorry, the young reporter, and the knife used by Burak, Haluk’s grandson seem to be similar. He shows Derya pictures. A custom design, special ordered. There’s also a small partial print on the knife, a match to Haluk Yildirim. There was blood on his hands. Blood was also found on his handkerchief.

Derya brings up that Haluk said he tried to help Berkhan. He might have said that, Rafet replies, but no one was seen entering or leaving the building except for him. You know the rest.

Pars enters Derya’s office. He says this case is trending on social media. The press won’t be silenced. They demand to find out who killed the reporter. What do we know? You’re right, she answers, we were just working on it. Act quickly, Pars says, but also be very careful. [two things that Rat-fet is incapable of doing.] We can’t ignore protocols.

Derya asks if Haluk is there. Rafet says he’s there with Yekta. Send them in, she orders. She asks about the janitor who called the police. That fool… I mean that man, is coming, Rafet replies. Derya has had it with the Rat.

Everyone stands before the judge. Not only did you commit a crime, but you cleaned up the scene. We have a large group involved here. Were you all working together?

Ceylin speaks up, Your Honor, my clients have permanent residences and known addresses. None of them have priors and there’s no chance they’ll flee. Some are students and one works at the police station. Therefore, I ask that they remain free pending trial.

The judge answers, counselor, I’m dealing with a group in which a murder suspect is a fugitive. She fled from the station while in the company of many. He questions them about Parla. No one saw her, no one knows where she is. The judge decides—everyone will be remanded into custody. And Merdan Kaya will remain in custody.

secrets #86 part 4

Parla looks at pic of the Kaya family. Metin tells her they are probably at the hearing now and they won’t be released. But they are represented by Ceylin. She will appeal and do what it takes to save them. Parla says it’s unfair for them to be in prison, while she’s not. [I’ll say.] She regrets running away.

Metin rationalizes, if you hadn’t, Ceylin wouldn’t have been able to get you out. The others can remain hopeful. You would have had to stay in custody until the trial and that takes a long time. Parla says she has a stupid question. How should I explain what happened at the station?

Metin sends Defne to go do laundry. He explains, people know what’s wrong in their homes. The station was like my home. At the station, there’s a faulty vent in the restroom. If anyone touches it, the power goes out. Not everyone knows that. Parla thanks him.

Ceylin shares the bad news with Eren. Tugce tells her dad she’s sorry. Everyone is worried, upset. Gul is dizzy. Ceylin says the judge is arresting them as a precaution. The judges assigned to the case are evaluating the self defense argument. That will come up during the trial, not the investigation. We expected this. Your arrest can’t come as a shock.

Aylin asks, are we really going to prison? Ceylin thinks only for a couple of days. I’ll make sure you’re released. I’ll object to the ruling. Osman makes a stupid comment and Eren says he wishes they hadn’t lied. You had many opportunities. Gul says she can’t do this. She can’t go to prison. [I don’t feel sorry for any of them.] Ceylin tries to give encouragement. Eren adds they need to be strong, just like they were when they hid what happened and lied. Let’s go.

Here it comes Ilgaz… 3, 2, 1… Ceylin barges into his office. Are you happy? Did you get what you wanted? The judge had them arrested! Are you happy? Tell me! He says that’s irrelevant, I’m devastated, too.

“Ceylin goes on and on.” Are you proud of your humanity? That you honored your profession, and protected the law? Have you shown how honorable you are to everyone? You got to teach a lesson by destroying my family and breaking your best friend’s heart. Justice will be done, you didn’t lie, you didn’t show favoritism. DA Ilgaz showed himself to be honest and truthful! Thank you very much! Congratulations! She storms out.

Derya questions Haluk. You said you tried to save him. Was the victim alive when you entered the house? Did anyone enter the building before you did and during the 40 minutes you were there? I don’t know, Haluk answers, I don’t know what happened. I didn’t kill him. Yekta says perhaps the culprit was already in the building.

Derya states, yesterday you said you didn’t touch the knife, but your print was on it. How do you explain it? Maybe I panicked and touched it, he replies. We also believe you tried to get rid of some evidence, she says.

Yekta speaks up, my client was too scared to explain himself yesterday. When he noticed the victim was dead, he panicked. He feared being blamed. He didn’t know what he was doing. We all make mistakes. He tried to stop the bleeding with his hands. Then he washed like any normal person would.

Derya notes that Yekta said that yesterday. Yes, he replies, in his attempt to stop the bleeding, he may have lightly and unknowingly touched the knife. Derya says if we go by speculation, then your client could have committed that murder, don’t you think?

secrets #86 part 5

Yekta complains, why do all of my clients get the same treatment? Is there a campaign against me? I don’t get it. I don’t accept this. Derya says, you can go. We’ll talk again after I finish questioning the janitor.

Yekta has some last points. Both parties agreed to meet. The agreed to the time and place. Mr. Haluk showed up right on time. There was no time for an argument. Haluk chimes in, yes, we didn’t get a chance to talk. Please step outside, Derya says. Yekta continues to annoy. She points to the door. Leave now.

Haluk asks Yetka, what do you think? What does the DA think? Yekta replies, you panicked and now you want my help. You should have called me the minute you saw him. You made a mistake. This will be difficult, and I don’t know how we’ll get out of it. Sit… we’ll find a way.

Tolga finds Ceylin. He hands over the motion. Well done, she tells him, we need to turn it over and then we can get to work. Pars is going to write the indictment and he’ll ask for a speedy trial. We only have a week to 10 days.

Tolga tells Ceylin he knows where Arda’s wife and daughter are. They are at a women’s shelter. Sevin left after Arda beat her. The blood, making the house look like a crime scene, and leaving was for their protection. Ceylin is angry and calls Arda a bastard. She wants to give him what he deserves.

The janitor is done and Derya wants to see Haluk again. That was quick, Yekta says. I have to give Rat-fet some credit here, he tells Yekta, not everyone “goes on and on” like you.

Derya says that Berkhan met with the janitor on that day as soon as he got home. We have footage from the building security cameras. The janitor said Mr. Berkhan told him, “I’m writing a series of articles about whether or not his grandson was a serial killer and he’s trying to silence me. Things could get tense, he may try to attack me. I don’t know what’s going to happen. Please check on me every once in a while.”

Yekta plays that off as speculation. Derya says it’s likely the janitor walked in while you washed your hands, she says to Haluk. When he saw Mr. Berkhan, he called the police. Haluk claims, I didn’t do it. I swear I didn’t! Say something, Yekta!

Yekta asks for an investigation about what Berkhan and the janitor discussed. He could be lying. Derya answers, before we do, your client will go before a judge.

Eren brings Tugce to juvie.

Ceylin turns in the motion and it’s going to be forwarded to the Court of First Instance. I can speak with the judge in charge of the case. We have to wait. Don’t give up, Ceylin says, we’ll keep trying.

Eren sits in his car and cries. He calls Ceylin. I left my heart with her, please get them out. If you need anything… She says, I talked to Pars, he’s doing what he can…but you can try to move things along on your end.

Ceylin confronts Arda. She grabs him. Did you squeeze her arm like this? She pushes him. Did you hit her? He pretends to be shocked. She calls him dishonest. I wish I knew you were like this! Tolga tries to calm the situation. Ceylin doesn’t stop. Will you hit me, too? Hit me, go ahead. She pushes him again, hit me like you hit her, you wife beater!

And we are out.

secrets

Thanks for another terrific recap, dondi.

I'm not as set against what Metin did as you are. For one thing I do not understand why I keep hearing 15 years for Parla. If she killed out of malice, maybe. But Serdar was choking Cinar to death. She didn't intentionally kill him, just stopped him by hitting him with a rock. If the justice system made any sense, she'd get a medal instead of 15 years. She's not my favorite character in the dizi by far, but I can see why they're trying to protect her.

Derya looks like she's ready to explode every time she sees Yekta and/or Rat-fet.

Secrets

Thank you. dondi356.

[Sorry, I’m on Ilgaz’s side in this. Ceylin is wrong, wrong, wrong.] I agree. This was the case of "call the police now!" from the beginning. It continued to be "call the police now!" with every new turn. Not calling the police was making things progressively worse. Ilgaz was the first person to actually do it, thankfully. Otherwise Parla would be living on the streets of Sarajevo and stealing food from cats.

[I don’t feel sorry for any of them.] I agree with all your side notes. They are trying to make it look like both sides have a point, but I am not buying it.

About the reporter murder. In the episode when he talked to Ilgaz to get approval to publish the article, Ilgaz noticed that some guy was following him. I wonder why he hasn't told anything to Derya.

secrets

Thanks, novelera and Lucio.

I can understand why the family wants to protect Parla, the red-nosed teenager, but it doesn't make it right. Even Pars is looking the other way on some things. This reeks of special treatment. Does anyone think Pars or Metin or Derya would be so sympathetic if it was some random person in trouble and not Parla? Ilgaz’s brother and grandfather are involved, too. But remember he said the law is not a toy for the Kaya family.

ITA, novelera, 15 years seems rather harsh for a crime with extenuating circumstances. Especially for a minor with no priors.

Like Lucio said, “This was the case of "call the police now!" from the beginning.”

“Ilgaz noticed that some guy was following him. I wonder why he hasn't told anything to Derya.” Thanks for mentioning this, Lucio. I wondered why Ilgaz was staring at the reporter while he walked away. Maybe it will click with him later on and they will look at security recordings.

I’ll have the Tuesday recap posted tomorrow. I’m watching soccer tonight.

secrets

"Otherwise Parla would be living on the streets of Sarajevo and stealing food from cats."

lol, Lucio, this made me think of Selim Yasaran on the run in in my fave dizi, Fatmagul. Only he was stealing food from cats in Greece.

Dondi,

Fatmagul is still my favorite telenovela \dizi. The actress is playing a very different woman in " Amor Prohibido." I am hooked on it even though I missed the beginning.

OT

Hi Susan! IMHO, it's hard to top Fatmagül.

Aşk-ı Memnu/Amor Prohibido is a classic, and it's addictive. But I chose not to watch again. I'm sorry that no one is recapping it or discussing it at the Uni patio. So many TNs/dizi, so little time.

ITA, Bihter is a very different from Fatma. Beren Saat is an excellent actress and she has good chemistry with Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ.

The second season of "Adım Farah", with Engin and Demet, started yesterday. No word yet if it's coming to the US.

secrets #87 part 1

Ceylin attacks Arda, you forgot to mention you beat your wife and daughter, but you love to talk about friendship and client rights. He continues to deny the accusations. She calls him a lying bastard. [that works.] Thanks to you, I’ve represented an abuser! He yells back, find my wife and my daughter! I’ll take care of the rest! Ceylin tells him to find another lawyer. He continues to deny.

Haluk is taken away. Yekta says, don’t make a scene, I’ll handle it. Yekta smirks as Haluk goes. Ilgaz catches him—you look very happy for someone whose client was arrested. That’s not why I’m happy, Yekta replies, I’m happy because Ceylin’s family was remanded into custody. Parla’s escape dampened the mood but she won’t get far. Where could she be hiding? Ilgaz asks Yekta to come to his office to talk.

Ilgaz wants to know about the complaint Yekta filed against Ceylin. Yes, Yekta says, she attacked me and threatened to kill me. Ilgaz asks why. Yekta replies, shouldn’t you ask your wife these questions? I don’t know what she was thinking. You probably noticed…she’s not all there. He makes the crazy sign.

Ilgaz is able to ignore those remarks. You sent out footage of the day Serdar was killed and Ceylin found out about it. She went to your office after learning you were at the dump, and you found the body so someone could report it.

Let’s say I did, Yekta theorizes, let’s say I obtained the recording and kept it. But then, I saw how there’s no justice in the world and how criminals roam free. The weight of my conscience did me in and I sent the evidence to the pertinent authorities. Is that I crime? I don’t think so.

Ilgaz tells Yekta to go. Smirking Yekta calls Ilgaz’s theories interesting. He’s sorry he didn’t think of them. But, he says, am I as smart as Ilgaz Kaya?

Ceylin visits Derya to tell her she no longer represent Arda. Ilgaz enters. Ceylin takes the opportunity to throw shade at Ilgaz. I listen to my heart. [unlike Mr. Perfect?] My values, conscience, willingness to forgive and my own flexibility provide me with a margin of error. She takes a breath and says, that’s why I don’t care about Arda anymore. I want his wife and daughter to be safe. She leaves. Derya asks Ilgaz, is this how it is now? You don’t even look at each other?

Ilgaz changes the subject. He’s there to talk about the murdered reporter. He says, he interviewed me and I think I have useful info. She tells him Haluk is still the prime suspect.

Ceylin asks Ozge and Ridvan to let her know immediately once a judge is assigned. She’d also like to know what that judge is like. They agree to do what they can to help.

Ceylin spots Yekta outside the court. Sounds like he’s complaining to Lacin about Omer being at the house. Ceylin goes over. She asks, you wanted me to kill that reporter? Ceylin… not in public, he replies. Tell me, she insists. He moves in close and whispers, I wanted you to kill your husband. But you chose to kill his love for you, he smiles, so that works, too.

Yekta leaves and Eren walks up. He (Yekta) sent out the recording, didn’t he? Can’t he be charged? Report him and let me bring him in. That would be a mercy, Ceylin replies, it wouldn’t bother him. I want him to burn to a crisp. I want to stab him in the heart. Eren is alarmed…don’t say that out loud.

Ridvan calls Ceylin. Judge Melek Saygili was selected. Ceylin doesn’t know her. She hurries back inside and doesn’t realize she’s crossed paths with the judge as she leaves for the day. Ilgaz comes out of his office and Ceylin takes off.

Ilgaz asks Eren how he’s doing. He’s not good. Ilgaz is sorry. Eren tells him not to apologize. You did what you had to do and that’s the truth. They will pay for what they did. [hallelujah, at least one person in this dizi, other than Ilgaz, values doing the right thing even if it hurts.]

secrets #87 part 2

Ilgaz approaches Ceylin. What are you waiting for, she asks, want me to say it? Don’t hold your breath. Say it, tell me you can’t live with a liar like me. Tell me it’s impossible for you to trust me again. Tell me it’s over. [I wish he would.]

Instead, Ilgaz tells her, you’re very good at running away. You know how to run away and blame the world. You do everything you can to push me away. You don’t give me any space to breathe, so I leave. You want me to be the one who ends it. It’s easier this way, right? It’s easier for you and your many mistakes. You’ll say you didn’t want it to end, that I left. You’ll be the victim. You’ll get to breathe easier.

Ceylin… you left me. You left first. You left us. You’re destroying me and what we’ve built together. But you refuse to see it. You’re placing all the responsibility on me, but you were the one who lied to my face. You denied taking Parla to the airport so she could escape. You left me first. I’m mad at you, Ceylin. My heart is broken. I have no idea how I’ll live without you and I don’t know how to live with you. I don’t know anything right now, damn it!

I don’t know what to do either, Ceylin replies, I ruin everything. It’s what I do. I keep wondering how you can do that to your loved ones, how you can make everything feel so grim. You put me in a world of pain. How can you treat my family and me like this? Have you no heart? [ And I have no stomach for this.] I know one thing… it’s impossible for me to flourish [i.e., get away with lies] by your side. Ceylin and her weepy, pouty face turn and walk away.

Ceylin gets a message from Mr. Perfect: come home, sleep in your bed, and stay at the house. I’ll leave and stay with Dad if need be. She sends a message back: no, it’s fine, we’re all where we should be. You’re home and I’m in my office.

Derya makes a surprise visit to Ceylin’s office. I’ll leave my robe outside if you don’t wear it inside, okay?

Pars and Eren are keeping Ilgaz company at home. Eren says that Ceylin is at her office. Derya is with her. Eren also says that Parla hasn’t been seen and hasn’t contacted anyone. Ilgaz knows that wherever Parla is, she won’t be allowed out until the trial.

Is this how it’s going to be, Pars asks, she’s at the office and you’ll stay here? It’s my fault everyone is away from their loved ones, Ilgaz replies. Pars answers, everyone will reunite and the bad times will be in the past. If you do this, you will open wounds that will never heal.

Ilgaz says, when my grandfather was detained, he said we were two sides of the same coin. Ceylin and I are too much alike. I don’t care about that, Pars says, are you in love? Do you care about each other? Isn’t love the art of not giving up?

Eren doesn’t want to upset his friend, but he reminds Ilgaz that Ceylin went missing months ago and he was devastated. Didn’t you pray for her return? You didn’t care if she lied or not. You were willing to accept her. I heard that. I learned from you what it means to love. You have to love the person and not try to change them. Accept them as they are.

Ilgaz admits he said those things and that Eren is right. But I didn’t think she’d lie to my face, he says. She used me. She betrayed me and my profession. If Parla had gone abroad, who would’ve been responsible? Who asked the AG for more time? I would have been involved in Parla’s escape. She played me. My heart is broken. I wish you could see that.

secrets #87 part 3

Derya tells Ceylin, had you made a mistake, I would have lost you. If you remained set in your ways… I know you’re scared. I was hard on you so you wouldn’t make a mistake and our friendship wouldn’t be ruined. I can own up to that. I acted harsh. Forgive me.

Ceylin is good with Derya’s explanation. She says it applies to their friendship and her situation with Ilgaz. Yes, I was offended, she says. And you can see, Ilgaz hasn’t been very kind. Are you still mad at me, Derya asks.

No, Ceylin replies, I’m mad at the world. You came to apologize, and I accept. You made up for what you did, but… I don’t know how to forgive the others. I’m angry because I was kicked out of my home. I’m angry because the man I love is no longer in my life.

Derya gives advice. Direct your anger where it belongs. Do you really think Ilgaz should be at the receiving end? [Thank you, Derya!] I don’t think so. I think you’re angry because you feel trapped. You feel responsible for protecting someone or because you can’t fulfill your sense of responsibility. Maybe you feel like you failed. But Ilgaz isn’t the reason you’re angry. It’s hard for you to accept he sides with the truth and the law. Happiness is what matters most. Choose to be happy.

In the morning, Ceylin and Eren wait in the court hallway for Judge Melek. She arrives. She looks like a tough one. Ceylin follows her into her office.

Ilgaz knocks on Metin’s door. Metin worries. Parla is sleeping in the bedroom. Metin lets Ilgaz in. Ilgaz thought he might not be home because he didn’t answer right away. Metin says he was just washing his hands. Ilgaz takes a look at the breakfast spread and extra plate. Are you expecting a visitor? No, Metin replies, it’s just us. Metin is at a loss for a second, then he laughs. Maybe I… I set a plate for Cinar or your grandfather. I’m losing it.

Ilgaz says it’s hard to get used to someone’s absence. Metin agrees. Would you like tea? Ilgaz declines. He asks his dad, did Ceylin ask for your help? With what? Ilgaz replies, you worked together while she prepared for trial. Metin answers yes and says he’s going to her office today to see if he can help.

Ilgaz asks his father’s opinion, is the person throwing the first rock guilty? Or is it the last one? Keep in mind that the first person throwing the rock is doing it with the intention to kill. Can you argue self-defense? Good question, Metin replies, something to think about. I was never here today, Ilgaz says, don’t mention it to anyone.

Defne comes into the room and she’s a little startled to see her brother. Ilgaz offers to take her to school. Metin quickly says she hasn’t had breakfast yet. Ilgaz says he’ll stop by the bakery on the way. He needs a dose of happiness from Defne. Defne signals to her dad that she’ll keep the secret.

Ceylin leaves Judge Melek’s office and her frown turns to a smile. She tells Eren, she’ll release them until trial. They are going home! We’ve overcome the first hurdle!

The Erguvans arrive home. Gul notes that Ceylin didn’t come in. Aylin says Ceylin is still mad at them.

Metin brings Cinar home. Parla is there waiting. As soon as Metin leaves the room, the two dopes hug. Are you okay, he asks. I’m much better now that you’re here, she replies. [gag.] Another hug, and Metin returns to the room and sees. [Seems he shares our opinion on this couple.]

secrets #87 part 4

We have a lot of work to do and very little time, Ceylin tells Tolga and Metin. One week. Metin has an idea but tells Ceylin to go first. Ceylin says we should start our defense by asking if the person who threw the first stone or the person who reacts to it is the criminal. [well, whada’ya know, that’s what Ilgaz said.] That way we can argue self-defense. Metin says, that’s such a great idea, I forgot what I was going to say.

They cut the song, “İyi Değilim Ben” and some of the scene that went with it. Pars catches Derya looking at a bridal magazine. Eren fixes dinner for Tugce and Merve, Tugce texts Parla.

We see Ilgaz at home and Ceylin in her office being unhappy without each other.

One week later.

Ilgaz is at the station. Eren tells him about a case. A man found dead on the street, his identity and cause of death unknown. Why did the CSI team meet with a judge, Ilgaz asks. It’s a story, Eren replies, the DA on the shift had a minor accident. The team saw what happened. The coroner’s team was also there. They blocked the road for 3 hours, analyzed everything and drew up the report.

The power at the station goes out. Not again! Rat-fet comes out of the bathroom, complaining. [Turkish] I told you 100 times! Didn’t I tell you to check the toilet ventilation button? It doesn’t work when you push it! Eren laughs, I wonder what kind of ventilation was needed for the gentleman. We labeled the button so he wouldn’t use it. He can read but doesn’t understand.

Ilgaz thinks and asks, has the vent always been broken? The last two or three years, Eren replies. It’s not used that often. Ilgaz notes that his father used the bathroom that day. Let’s resolve this now.

Eren and Ilgaz show up at the Kaya house. Eren finds it hard to believe Metin would do this. Ilgaz says that Metin feels indebted to Ceylin and her family. She was right under our noses all along, he grumbles.

Ilgaz rings the bell and knocks at the door. Defne answers. The men enter and Ilgaz begins searching through the house. Metin appears. Ilgaz? Ilgaz stares Metin down, is Parla here? Metin answers, Parla? What do you mean? Eren wants to go. Ilgaz accuses his father of cutting the power at the station that day. Ilgaz turns to Defne. I have a question, don’t lie, okay? Has Parla been staying here for a while? Lol, commercial break.

Defne answers no. Eren mentions leaving again. Defne gets upset and asks, why are you mad at Dad? He hasn’t done anything wrong! Metin tells Defne it’s okay, they are just talking. Defne continues, you’re always mad at everyone! Stop being so angry! Eren says he must leave for the hearing at court. He apologizes to Metin.

The men leave and Defne hugs her dad. I was so scared, she says. Don’t cry, Metin tells her, this has nothing to do with you. [But now it does. Defne became a liar like the rest of them.] Your brother has been angry lately. But you understand why, don’t you?

Ceylin brings Parla to the courthouse, just in time. A joyful reunion with the rest of the family. Ceylin tells them not to worry, she will get Parla out. Gul tells Ceylin she’s been worried about her. I’ve called, but you don’t answer. She takes her daughter’s hand and says, Ceylin, let’s go home. Come home with us. Ceylin pulls away. That’s not my home anymore. I don’t even have a home anymore.

secrets #87 part 5

Ceylin takes Parla to Pars. Oh, you found the missing person, he says. Parla is here to turn herself in, Ceylin says. Ah, just in time, Pars notes with a slight smile, on the day of the hearing...

The hearing begins. All the defendants are present. Judge Melek enters. This initial hearing will take place on the scheduled date and time. The indictment has been read. She reads the names of the defendants. Ilgaz comes to the courtroom.

Yekta makes his case, we’d like to ease the pain of the mother of Serdar Denzi, the man brutally attacked and murdered. Everyone who had a hand in shedding Serdar’s blood should be punished. The file contains the recording which clearly shows the murder happening.

He continues, Your Honor, they all had a hand in the crime, and we demand they each be punished separately for premeditated murder. And as if that isn’t enough, Serdar Denzi was left in a dump. I demand that these people, who don’t respect the dead, are punished for that, too.

We’ll see, counselor, Judge Melek responds. We’ll analyze each case separately. The judge turns to Ceylin. Are you representing all of the defendants? Yes, Your Honor. The judge asks if Ceylin has anything to add. Of course, she does.

Ceylin starts at the beginning. The victim was wanted for killing Zafer Erguvan. Everyone you see here today knew Zafer very well… wife, daughter, granddaughter, SIL. Everyone at the terrace had the desire to bring Serdar to justice.

Yekta rises from his seat and interjects, is that why they held him at gunpoint? They claim to have wanted justice for Zafer Erguvan, but they wanted revenge!

Ceylin notes that Serdar was the first one to pull out a gun, but it was empty. Much like the gun my client, Cinar Kaya had with him. [what?] I also ask we look into that. How did they obtain these guns? Who knew of Serdar Denzi’s whereabouts and informed Cinar Kaya? Most important, who recorded the event and why did they hold on to the footage? I demand we investigate and get answers to these questions.

“Yekta!” looks a little nervous, doesn’t he?

And we are out.
