Notes from the couch . . .
Another night another plot come and gone!
THE VIOLETA INCIDENT
Violeta's accident is a hit and run. Nobody gets the license plate number. Rogelio calls for an ambulance and stays with Violeta along with her friend.
At the same time, Paula is telling Eva all about Violeta and how she earned Rogelio from the very start. Eva says too bad somebody couldn't have put her in her place or something like a tractor couldn't have run her over. Rogelio calls Paula about Violeta being hit by the car. Eva looks to heaven and tells God to stop paying attention to what she says. Paula leaves to be with Rogelio.
Violeta is admitted to the hospital. She rolls by on a gurney with a neck brace. The nurse tells Rogelio and JJ that she has bruising but no broken bones or internal injuries. She needs to stay quiet and rest in bed to recuperate.
Violeta's friend tells JJ that Violeta didn't have an accident. She tried to kill herself after an argument with Rogelio. Rogelio had been harassing her. She was desperate. Rogelio tried to kiss her and when she rejected him, he fired her. JJ says this is the opposite of what Rogelio told him. The friend says Violeta felt like she couldn't tell JJ because it would have caused more problems with Rogelio. Today she wanted to talk to Rogelio before he talked to JJ so she decided to see him outside the restaurant he was at. Rogelio was terrible to her and that is when Violet threw herself in front of the car. With so many people around, Rogelio had no choice but to call an ambulance and to accompany them to the hospital.
Paula catches up with Rogelio at the hospital. Violeta is sedated. He tells Paula what happened outside Pedro's restaurant and how she was shouting at him. She took a step backward and was hit by a car.
JJ arrives on the scene livid and screams at Rogelio that he just found out the truth about what happened to Violeta. It was HE who was harassing HER. Rogelio is a liar. He tried to kiss Violeta and when she rejected him, he fired her. Rogelio doesn't understand what this is all about. JJ grabs him by his shirt collar and says because of him, Violeta wanted to kill herself. Paula separates them and hospital security appears to escort JJ away.
The doctor tells JJ what the nurse told him earlier. Only one person can visit Violeta at a time. JJ chooses to let her friend stay with her while he goes to find a lawyer to see what kind of legal action he can take against Rogelio.
Rogelio meets with Marco, Fidel and Fernando. Rogelio is worried about the accusations that Violeta is going to make about him. Fernando is worried that JJ, that cretin, will make it all public. Rogelio says he has told Paula. She is mad but she trusts him.
Violeta wakes up and asks her friend what happened. She is told she was hit by a car. Rogelio called for an ambulance that brought her to the hospital. Her uncle came, too. The friend tells her that she told her uncle all about Violeta wanting to take her life and why. Violeta asks her why???? The friend wanted to help her. Violeta informs her that things really didn't happen that way. She lied to her because she felt humiliated and didn't want to accept being rejected. Her friend is not happy that she told JJ a lie. She doesn't want to be involved in Violeta's mess. She tells Violeta to take care of it all on her own and leaves.
Rogelio, Marco, Fernando, Fidel and Martina all meet with their lawyer. The lawyer's advice is to not get ahead of themselves. They need to practice prevention of problems and protect themselves. He asks if Rogelio has any phone messages/texts that they could use. Rogelio says he has some but he erased the majority of them. He admits to being lax.
JJ comes in to inform them all that he is in contact with a lawyer who specializes in sex crimes. They will be filing charges against Rogelio for sexual harassment. After JJ leaves, the lawyer tells Rogelio and crew that sexual harassment is a very difficult crime to prove and even more so since it is based on a lie. Rogelio is worried about bad publicity. The lawyer adds that when it comes down to it, JJ probably won't want to expose his niece. He thinks that JJ is walking on the razor's edge.
Martina asks Rogelio why he wasn't more firm with the girl. Rogelio says it is not time for a scolding. Imelda offers to talk to Violeta to see if she can get her to tell the truth. Of course, Fernando is critical of that idea. The lawyer says there is nothing to do until the girl is awake. Martina decides to leave but wants to be kept in the loop. She makes a point of telling Rogelio that it is one thing to be a good person and another to be naïve.
Imelda stops by to see JJ. She is not there to change his mind but to say she is sorry about the situation. JJ says a friend told him about the sexual harassment. It had been going on for months. That was why Violeta wanted to kill herself. Imelda says she is worried about Violeta. Going to court could be like a re-victimization. Nevertheless, if it were her, she would be filing charges, too. She has never suffered what Violeta has but she has been lynched socially and that wasn't great either.
Rogelio updates Paula. Paula goes to see Violeta to see how she is doing. She tells Violeta that she is very sorry for what happened to her but she is there to talk reasonably. Both of them know that Rogelio is incapable doing what she has accused him of. Violeta tells Paula she doesn't know that ignorant jerk she is married to. She couldn't sleep because of him thinking of having to see him at work every day.He made her life impossible. Paula tells her that besides being a very bad person she is a very bad liar. She will not separate her from Rogelio but their family will suffer. Paula tells her that if she pursues telling her lie, she won't be able to live with the guilt. Paula hopes she gets better and leaves.
JJ visits Violeta. He feels like he failed her not knowing what was going on. He assures her that Rogelio will pay for what he did. Violeta admits that she has not been honest with him or her friend. It has all been a lie. She says she fell in love with Rogelio and tried to force him to notice her. She didn't want to commit suicide. She was very angry outside the restaurant and started to run but she tripped and fell. That is how she got hit. Her friend told him the lie to protect her. JJ takes her admission very seriously. Violeta says he should be grateful that Rogelio called the ambulance as quickly as he did. She apologizes.
JJ comes to see Rogelio. He has to talk to him face to face. He tells Rogelio the truth. Violeta made it all up. Rogelio is furious. JJ understands. He apologizes for having doubted Rogelio. He assumes the consequences of his actions completely. Rogelio says that just the accusation of something of that magnitude could destroy anyone. JJ agrees. He apologizes again and says he has decided to sell his shares and leave the company. Rogelio says no. He wants JJ to stay on. He will never forget that JJ stood by him when he needed his help the most. The only condition that is that Violeta not come back to the company for any reason. Also, he would like JJ to apologize to his family. JJ thanks Rogelio and apologizes one more time. Rogelio is relieved.
Rogelio tells Paula it is finally all over. Paula gets a text from Violeta. She wants to talk to her. Paula goes to see her. Violeta thanks her for coming. She thought a lot about what Paula said and she is right. She wants to apologize to her. She saw Rogelio as such an educated man and felt things for him that she had never felt for anyone. She confused his kindness and attention for something more. She noticed how he always put Paula first and had such respect for her. He loved her so much. She never knew a man like that before. She apologizes to Paula for her bad behavior. Paula admits she is still angry but she is sincerely sorry that Violeta is in this situation. She is happy that Violeta has recognized her errors because that means she is taking responsibility. That is self-respect. Paula says when Violeta finds the love of her life, it will all click. You cannot force a relationship that isn't for you. Paula wishes her well and leaves.
Paula has a surprise for Rogelio at Pedro's restaurant. She has created a mobile of photos of them. She asks him if he wants to still be he novio, her lover, her companion, her accomplice, her husband. She gives him a bracelet she made for him out of a guitar string. She asks Rogelio if he wants to be her everything. He says yes he does for all eternity. (eternamente)
EVERYTHING ELSE
MARTINA has a problem recognizing who Gabriel's in a conversation they are having. She calls him Fernando or is he Arturo. She disappears into her own world and Gabriel works to get her back by having her look into his eyes. He asks if she is okay. She thinks so. She has a medical test scheduled and Paula is going with her.
LUCAS wants to bring Regina a gift for a novio anniversary . He cuts some roses from Martina's green house. She is upset and finds out that it was he who cut the roses without her permission. She tells him that her greenhouse is sacred for her. He left her roses bald! He promises he will not do it again but he adds that she should have seen Regina's face. She was so happy. Martina smiles but reminds him this was the first and last time he wold be cutting her roses. He thinks she is the best grandma in the world.
ULISES proposes to Ale and she accepts.
FERNANDO tells IMELDA what happened with Violeta and Rogelio. She is worried how it will affect her projects. Fernando is annoyed because that is all she thinks about. She says she is working and is happy. He starts saying that the kids need her and she cuts him off. She wants him to be honest and tell her what is really bothering him. He doesn't trust JJ. He doesn't like the way JJ looks of her or the way he treats her. She concludes that he is jealous. He admits it. She laughs. She never imagined that. She tells him to not be confused. She is not him. She isn't looking for anyone else.
IGNACIO goes to see his therapist. He says that he knew Cass told him she had a complicated life but he never imagined she was an escort. The therapist concludes he feels that it is immoral. He agrees. The women are . . . The therapist cuts him off and says they are SURVIVORS just like him. She asks him what he does for living. He says he is a businessman . She tells him that when people have to survive in the face of adversity, they have to do what is at their disposal/available. The therapist doesn't think that judging Cass is the way to go. He killed his stepfather. Did Cass judge him for doing that? He shakes his head. She sees it as the same as her situation. Both situations lack morality, ethics. He starts to complain about Cecilia seeing that guy. The therapist thinks that is an old topic. Sooner or later, he is going to have to get used to the idea that Cecilia is going to have a new partner just like him. If he sees his son regularly, he will be the only father he knows. She suggests that he ask Cecilia to come to an appointment with him so they can establish some rules for him seeing his son so they can avoid a battle royal.
Ignacio visits Cecilia again without calling. She tells him she didn't appreciate that or him threatening Ricardo. He apologizes. She allows him to come in and visit with his son. She shows him how to change a diaper, feed and care of the baby. She takes a photo of him and the baby with the camera that Ricardo gave her. She gives it to him to take with him. He is grateful. Before he leaves, she asks him if he loves Cass. He admits he doesn't feel the same way about Cass as he did about her. He hopes that he will come to love Cass a lot with time.
Ignacio proposes to Cass and she accepts.
That is it for me tonight. Please feel free to add whatever I left out.
Diana, thanks so much for helping me out on my most difficult, busy days. I really appreciate it. :)
I'll write a recap for Thursday's (will be up later today) and Friday's episodes.
I'm actually disappointed by the ending. They created so much tension and now apparently it was enough just to talk to the girl. She isn't emotionally stable and they want to make me believe just being hit by the car made her want to admit the truth to that friend? This plot really made it obvious it was tension for the sake of tension.
How was Rogelio so sure Paula 'trusted him?'
I can't help but laugh every time someone, this time his mum, tries to tell him he messed-up. For someone who dares tell his wife it isn't his fault when she warned him the girl was bad news and he did nothing, it feels he should keep his mouth shut when people point out that it is his fault. I really had no sympathy for him throughout the episode. There's something rather childish and petulant in Rogelio sometimes.
Didn't the friend tell Violeta she better maintain the story they created?
Imelda always thinks first about herself. Did she think JJ was less likely to be mad at her if she came to offer her support?
Why did Paula decide to have that second proposal now? I think as I dislike Rogelio so much, it had no effect on me and just felt somewhat odd. I'd have thought Rogelio would be the one to do it as he is the one who messed-up so many times.
I still don't get why Ignacio thinks he can judge Casandra for doing what she did. It appears that like his brothers, he has some messed-up ideas about women. Women are immoral? Often act immoral? And if he doesn't love Casandra, whypropose?
Episode 52: Part 1 of 2
There was a delay in sending Santos to the reclusorio. Rodrigo told Rut that there were statements in Santos' favor and these were putting doubt on the charges.
Cris found out about this and told Maria Teresa. She told him that all and good if this is true but no forgiveness is his guilt was proven.
Rodrigo told Rut that a woman's testimony meant nada because Santos was a womanizer. Clemente arrived and shocked him.
Valentina and Bernarda argued again.
Rut was furious. Clemente told him that he and Santos were together when the crime took place. Trejo was to take the deposition.
Maria Teresa was working on her computer when Nani told her to take her time. She answered that finances would not allow for that. Marco arrived with flowers.
Clemente gave his deposition to Trejo, confident in every statement.
Maria Teresa told Marco she had no head for work. She asked him if he would want to buy the ranch.
Valentina found Remedios who told her Clemente was giving a statement. Remedios was unsure about whether Santos would be released.
Marco took his time answering but said Yes. He offered to take over production in the interim.
Rut returned with Rodrigo. Trejo said that Clemente just put the case in doubt, as he told him that the flatbed was empty at the time. Rodrigo seemed to accept this.
Villalobos arrived at the hacienda to tell Maria Teresa that although Esteban did not live to sign his new will he had changed it to leave 40% of his assets to Valentina. Maria Teresa did not understand this. Villalobos did not know the reason. He told Maria Teresa that the decision was up to her as to what to do.
Marco met with Pepe who said that the workers were worried. Marco told him to spread the word that Maria Teresa was ruined to confuse and upset them.
Rodrigo told Rut that the resolution would also be dependent on test results. Rut dismissed Rodrigo and Trejo, then looked sternly at Clemente.
Bernarda fought Pepe's efforts and an argument broke out among the others.
Rut got on Clemente's case for defying him in the most important case in Puerto Bravo. He implied that there was hanky panky between Camila and Clemente which Clemente denied. Rut ordered him to leave town. He became insulting, calling Clemente a puppet. This became an argument with Rut slamming him against the wall. Trejo – who must have been just outside the door – ran in and stopped Rut from escalating the violence.
Episode 52: Part 2 of 2
Bernarda and Cris tried to calm everyone down.
Rut was cursing as Marco arrived to tell him that Maria Teresa was going to sell him the property. He poured two shots to celebrate.
Bernarda and Cris entered the hacienda and Bernarda told Maria Teresa that Valentina was near the police station. Bernarda and Cris told her about the uncertainty among the workers.
Clemente told Remedios and Valentina about his statement. Remedios went inside with Santos' clothes and Clemente told Valentina about the operation Regina could have.
Genoveva told Cris about Maria Teresa's pain. She cried and Cris said he didn't like to see her sad... or to leave. Un beso and he went off to work.
Valentina was pleased about Clemente's intentions. Norma found them and was happy that Clemtne was doing the right thing.
Norma told Trejo she also saw Santos near Camila's place. As she left his office Rodrigo came in with a file.
Marco showed up at La Esperanza and told the workers to respect Maria Teresa and until she hired a new capataz he would be in charge.
Valentina told Santos to calm down because there were statement in his favor.
Marco talked trash about Santos which nobody liked. As they dispersed Marco embraced Maria Teresa to the suspicious expressions on the faces of Cris and Bernarda.
The report in Rodrigo's file indicated that the machete in the truck was not the murder weapon. Rut took this personally but Rodrigo said that the investigation would continue and Rut would have to consider the real possibility that someone else did the crime.
Maria Teresa was android-like when she told Cris that Marco would be running the place. She told Bernarda that she needed to talk to Valentina.
Rut was still determined to prove that Santos was the killer. [Or create more fake evidence?]
Valentina did not want to go home. Remedios told her that Bernarda was as she was because she wanted to protect her and her sister.
Clemente told Norma he was working in a pizzeria and that all his money was to go to Regina's operation. He also knew his parents' marriage was on the rocks and he wanted to take care of her.
Marco left La Esperanza with some nasty words to Bernarda.
8 Episodes Remaining
Bare bones here because I have an appointment at 9.
Welcome to the middle ages. Hope you enjoy your stay. Seriously, though, the residents of that town need to be educated. Where is that stupid priest? Maybe he could tell them they are no judges.
Leonardo changed his tune. Is televisa out of ideas? If they decided to do a remake, why do stuff that's been done to death? How did that actor agreed to play a character like this? Orlando is now all about justice. These telenovelas give small tows a bad name. I find it a bit hard to take this telenovela seriously due to all these plot twists that leave you wondering if what you saw was real or a bad dream.
Jarifa, your level of detail and vivid descriptions of all the action and conversations was outstanding.
Violeta’s volatile story reflected opposite ends of the spectrum and everything in between. A reprehensible accusation compounded by self-serving denial. From steadfastly holding onto her story, then embellishing it to all of a sudden admitting it was all a lie. A bit improbable, but whatever the reason, I’m relieved it’s over. As your noted “
Paula tells her that besides being a very bad person she is a very bad liar”.
I didn’t understand Eva ruminating it was a shame a “tractor couldn't have run her over... then “Eva looks to heaven and tells God to stop paying attention to what she says”. Leave it to Eva! 😊
I think Rogelio did the right thing by having JJ stay on, providing Violeta doesn’t darken the door again. “He will never forget that JJ stood by him when he needed his help the most”. Loyalty.
I smiled and nodded when Imelda stood up for herself during Fernando’s constant criticism: “She concludes that he is jealous. He admits it. She laughs. She never imagined that. She tells him to not be confused. She is not him. She isn't looking for anyone else”.
I find Ignacio’s sessions with his therapist very poignant. She dispensed such wise advice that when one is desperate, they must find and use what they can as a means to survive.
“He starts to complain about Cecilia seeing that guy. The therapist thinks that is an old topic. Sooner or later, he is going to have to get used to the idea that Cecilia is going to have a new partner just like him…” was excellent advice. I sense a bit of longing when he and Cecilia are together but both realize it was not to be. Cecilia showing him how to change and feed their child was very touching. It was fitting he admitted “He doesn't feel the same way about Cass as he did about her. He hopes that he will come to love Cass a lot with time.”
I’m so thankful you translated all the pivotal dialog that I didn’t understand!
Diana
Thanks Jarifa, great recap of a not so great episode. The whole Violeta thing had so much drama and then it’s just over and done! They could have put a little more back and forth with accusations and lawyers. I wasn’t sure what Imelda was saying to Jj but felt she was siding with Violeta. Did she ever find out they didn’t spend the night together at the hotel? That was the night Rogelio was with Fernando.
Lucas was cute with the flowers, his girlfriend and then Martina.
Ignacio is changing and I’m wondering now if he and Cecilia will end up together. His marrying Cass in the hopes he will love her like he loved Cecilia is not a good idea.
It doesn’t look good for Martina. I hate that as she’s become a much nicer person.
Liz
Thanks Urban, your bare bones told plenty. I think Trejo was the real hero last night. And I think he might figure out who the real killer is. I can’t wait for Marco and Rut to get caught. And although MT doesn’t trust Rut I’ll be glad when she realizes Marco is his partner in crime.
MT stands there while Marco tells the workers Santos wasn’t a good leader. Doesn’t she see how her workers react to Marco. Bernarda needs to tell MT about Marco.
I’m anxious to see Camila as I’m still worried Marco might have done something to her.
Liz
Urban, thank you for all your insightful highlights and lowlight of another very exciting episode. I am enjoying this story more each day and can’t wait to see how everything is resolved.
“Maria Teresa was android-like when she told Cris that Marco would be running the place” was the perfect descriptor.
Clemente shone last night. Composed, determined he “…gave his deposition to Trejo, confident in every statement”. Confirming Santos’ flatbed was empty was a huge revelation. And as gratifying as that was, Norma telling Trejo she saw Santos near Camila’s was pivotal and undeniable. And the icing on the cake is Clemente’s quiet determination to help Regina to be able to hear.
Loved Trejo lurking outside the door when Rut was threatening his son, bursting in at just the right time. Seeing Rut’s “case” seemingly start to fall apart is very satisfying.
Marco is completely stomach churning. Not only kissing Maria Teresa’s shoulder, but leaning forward touching his forehead to hers, kissing her, pretending an intimacy they do not have is disgusting.
Liz, you are so right...Bernarda absolutely should warn Maria Teresa about Marco!!
Maria Teresa learns she has a co-owner with no clue as to the reason. I think all will come out tonight, I can’t wait!
Diana
Jarifa, thank you so much for another exciting report from the couch . You didn't miss a beat .
Violetta, suddenly has an epiphany and confesses all . Are we to believe that the car hitting her knocked some sense into her ? These writers decided to throw whatever they could think up into the pot in this second half abandoning a lot of the storylines they originally set up. Recent storylines and characters start with a bang and end with a whimper . ( aka T S. Eliot)
Eva's tractor comment...yikes ...not funny in a farming community because it does happen . UFC
I felt truly sorry for Igy last night . The look on his face as he gazed mesmerized at his tiny son really got to me . Did he have his own epiphany at this moment ?
I wouldn't want someone marrying me in the hopes of falling in love with me . Don't marry him, Cass.
A promo that aired last night said "Mujer" is coming (I think on the 31st?) at 9:00.
I had so hoped it would have been Golpe de suerte or Vencer!!
Diana
Urban, thank you for another great recap of all the lying and crying and dying .
I got a kick out of he scene of Bernarda and her mini me Val together both dressed in black with plunging necklines .
Having Val and MT as co owners is going to throw a wrench into the works for Smarmy Marco. I, too, am worried about Camila. I like this spunky character , and I am afraid that she has been playing with fire too long and will get burned as Marco is frustrated in his plans .
Back in Medieval times, but they're burning the wrong witch - Part 1/4
Emi is at Tigre's room. Zaira sees the cops outside I think and she says Rob has probably already denounced Emi for murder. Emi tells her dad she loves him as she leaves with Seb. Zaira hugs Tigre.
Rob is using her acting skills to convince the doctor to let the officers arrest Emi. She says she just "wants justice" and the doctor lets the cops arrest Emi.
Leo is drinking. Sara kisses him, but he uh, falls asleep before anything happens. Sara screams at him to wake up, but he doesn't.
Míriam is at... Berta's house! Berta says she knows she the widow Addled was "helping". She asks her how old she is, Míriam replies she's 28. She adds she didn't want to cause problems in their marriage, Berta says they were already terrible. She says it's better if she leaves, but Berta tells her to stay.
Addled is worried because Danilo hasn't come back yet. Ha. He never will, bud.
When the cops go to arrest Emi in her hospital room, she's not there. Rob says she can't be far away.
She's right. Emi is with Seb. They go to hide in a Lab room. Rob, the doctor and the cops (Orlando included) come right outside of it and Rob orders Orlando to interrogate Tigre. When they leave, Emi and Seb come out of the room.
Orlando is actually interrogating Tigre. I'm losing hope with him as well. Tigre says he doesn't know where she is and says something about divine justice and Rob being the one who caused the explosion. She asks him if he has proof, which is totally something an innocent person would do. Some other cops say something through a walkie talkie thing, but I didn't catch it. They all leave and Tigre falls down. Zaira holds him as he's screaming "I can't help my daughter".
Seb is helping Emi escape.
Míriam asks Berta to forgive her, she didn't want to hurt her, she only wanted to have a nice life. Berta says her kid will have anything she wanted it to have.
The cops say they're investigating. Roberta is talking to the press about Emi, how she killed her son and another miner and asks for help! The nerve of this woman!
Even Sara, who's watching the live video, is a bit shocked. I think she says "I'm not sure if I should be scared of you or learn from you"(?) She goes next to an asleep Leo, takes her shirt off and gets into bed next to him.
Emi goes home with Seb's help. She tells Nico, Gael and Marijó that they have to leave. Nico doesn't want to and tells her she killed his dad. Emi says they'll talk about this. Nico just leaves. Poor Emi.
She goes to talk to Nico. She says she didn't do it; in fact, she tried to help him. Nico asks her if his dad was bad and that's because she didn't love him. Emi replies he made some "errors" (so raping someone is considered an error now?) She says he hurt her some years ago. She adds they have to leave. Nico asks her about Leo. She says Leo has to stay here to work. They say they love each other and cry as they hug.
Joaquina asks Rob is she's celebrating (? I didn't catch the verb) that she ruined Leo and Emi's life. She adds that they're good people and they don't deserve to suffer. She also says she should let Emi go, she's her grandson's mother. Roberta says she's his grandmother and he'll stay with her. She'll take Emi's son like Emi took hers (geez, woman, MAU'S DEATH ISN'T EMI'S FAULT!) Joaquina asks her "when will you stop causing harm?" and she replies "never!"
Addled is at home. Míriam walks in the living room and he almost has a stroke. Berta smiles.
Leo looks up expecting to see Emi, but sees Sara instead.
Marijó says she'll miss them, them being Emi, Gael, Seb and Nico. They're leaving now... Or not. Some women are approaching and they're not happy.
Back in Medieval times, but they're burning the wrong witch - Part 2/4
Addled pretends he doesn't know Míriam and even tells her to schedule an appointment with his secretary! Berta snaps and tells him to finally start wearing pantalones. She knows she's his lover and she's pregnant with his child. Addled says he doesn't know how it happened (really now?) She says that "this witch" (esa bruja) took advantage of him. Míriam says that she doesn't want to feel like a cualquiera (slut) and Addled has the nerve to say that she IS one because she cheated on him with Seb and he's sure the kid is Seb's and she lied on purpose. He FINALLY gets a VERY well-deserved slap in the face by Míriam, who says that Seb is just a good friend and he's (Seb's) worth it. Addled then does THE most ridiculous thing he could have done; he whines to Berta that Míriam cheated on him. Berta slaps him too, FINALLY.
Leo asks Sara what happened. She tells them that something did happen between them. Leo talks about Emi and Sara says that she didn't even want to have his kid. Ouch. Leo says they already broke up (I think he said "eso terminó" - this ended, I assume he's referring to him and Sara).
A woman from the angry group says that she's Sala's mother (Salas is the miner who died). "She [Emi] killed my son", she adds. Marijó defends Emi, saying she didn't do anything. The women get angrier; they start throwing stuff and scream "castigo de Dios", which, after some research, found it means "serves you right", in slang. Emi gives Nico to Gael and Marijó, even though he (Nico) doesn't want to leave her.
She gets out of the car. "Here I am", she says. She adds she didn't kill anyone and she mentions La Patrona. Some of the women scream something like "don't listen to her, she's (it's? es could mean both) the devil". Emi says that at the end, the one who's lying will be uncovered. The crowd (which has got bigger, there are some men in there too) start hitting her, Seb goes to help her and gets hit too.
Gael and Marijó are watching. Marijó wants to call the police (uh, the police ARE SEARCHING FOR HER) but Gael stops her. Nico steals Marijó's phone when she isn't looking and decides the best thing he can do is call ROBERTA. I mean, he's 6, I don't have high expectations of him for these kinds of decisions, but still.
Roberta tells Patricio to investigate the products of La Cueva del Diablo, IIRC. She picks up the call and is happy to hear Nico instead of Marijó. "I need help. Some people want to hurt my mom", he says. "Of course I'll help, where are you?" Roberta replies. Nico unfortunately tells her and Roberta says she's coming right now. She hangs up and smirks evilly.
Berta calls Addled hombrecito. Addled has the nerve to say this (Míriam and her kid) isn't her business!!! Berta says it IS her business, she's his wife, she's been with him during good and bad times. She adds that Míriam's only sin was falling in love. She continues, she stayed with him because of her kids, she wanted her daughters to see their parents together (ugh. This is WRONG. I hate hearing that. Divorce is better than the kids seeing their parents unhappy. Plus, we see how their daughters turned out. Both of them would do ANYTHING to keep their boyfriends. 0 dignity. Guess one of the reasons why).
Back in Medieval times, but they're burning the wrong witch - Part 3/4
Addled says he broke up with Míriam, they don't have anything. Berta says she's young and they have a kid. Míriam says she is willing to get a paternity test done on the baby when it's born. Addled starts the "yo soy el presidente municipal" crap and Berta says that he should forget the gobernatura. With a single word of hers they won't even take him as an office boy (remember, she's got the money, everyone, not Addled). That shuts him up. Berta says Míriam will live here! Addled asks her if she's crazy, to which she replies yes. "What am I going to tell the people?" he asks. Berta says our thoughts "you should have thought of that sooner". Tbh, I think this is a HUGE OOC Berta moment here...
Jenny tells Orlando she wants to work in the precinct. She doesn't even care if he gives the the minimum salary (salario minimo). This conversation is interrupted by the walkie talkie thing. I didn't catch every word, but I got the gist. They found Emi. He screams at them to make sure she doesn't get hurt. Jenny asks Orlando if he thinks Emilia killed these people. He says all the evidence points that way.
Leo asks Sara to forgive him?! She says there's nothing to forgive and she'll always be there for him blah blah. He just leaves.
The people are uh... in desperate need of a psychiatrist. They have tied Emi and Seb up in different places and are placing pieces of wood on the ground next to Emi. The worst part is that they're pouring GASOLINE on them. They want to burn Emi. Seb screams at them, but it's pointless. Roberta arrives and tells them to calm down and not be barbaric, because they "can't be like her [Emi]". The police arrive to arrest Emi, Seb screams at Ezequiel that he doesn't have proof, infeliz. Ezequiel says he's lucky they don't arrest him for obstruction of justice. Emi says she's innocent and Roberta knows it very well. "Leave my family in peace!" she screams before being dragged away. Rob promises justice to the people. Ugh.
Nico tells Marijó and Gael that he called Rob from Mar's cellphone. They naturally freak out. Gael wants to leave with Nico but the cops stop them.
Tigre is having trouble with his wheelchair. He's worried about Emi, Zaira tells him to calm down, because "las noticias corren como el áire" (literally "the news run like the air"). The doctor has good news; he can leave. Tigre screams at Zaira to get him out of here. Zaira, girl, you honestly need congratulations for being able to put up with him.
Nico hugs Emi, but Rob violently grabs him. Nico says he wants to hug his mom, but Rob pushes him away from Emi. Both Emi and Nico cry as they say their "te amo me amas" game. Roberta screams to her to leave with dignity. No comments. As the cops take Emi, Roberta tells Nico Emi killed his father. Seb screams at him not to believe it. Roberta takes Nico and Marijó away. Seb hugs Gael. What a tragic scene.
Emi is in a police cell. Ezequiel says Roberta will take care of Nico.
Gael tell Zaira and Tigre, who just arrived from the hospital, about Nico being taken away.
Marijó says she'll save Nico (I either heard cuidar or salvar, but cuidar doesn't make sense with the rest of the dialogue) and Rob pops up behind her and asks "from me?" Mar tells her to let him go. Like there's any chance she will. Roberta sends her to her room and tells a (sleeping) Nico he's the only thing she has and no one with separate them. Last time someone said this (Emi), the exact opposite happened.
Leo has gone to work. Seb arrives and tells Leo about Emi. I wasn't sure if I liked Seb at first, but he's a better galán than Leo at this point.
Back in Medieval times, but they're burning the wrong witch - Part 4/4
Leo goes to the precinct and tells Orlando this doesn't make sense. Orlando says they have "proof". He first shows him a video of Emi screaming, hitting Mau and saying she'll kill him. It's from that time when she went to Rob's house to propose a deal to her. The other proof is that the materials of the explosives were found on Emi's clothes. (Okay, I'm not a lawyer or anything, but 1. if the video was taken illegally it can't be used in court and 2. uh, she was literally IN THE MINES when the explosion happened. Wouldn't it be logical that her clothes would have these materials?) Orlando says he understands Leo wants to defend Emi FF-->
Roberta kisses a picture of Mau and cries. Fidel comes in. Rob says she'll never see her son again. Fidel mentions having her grandson and gives her a folder. I think he said La Cueva del Diablo costs a fortune. Rob sees the papers and says she officially has the custody of Nico. She thanks Fidel. I was sure I heard something about his money being doubled, but that doesn't make sense. Did I miss something? Maybe it was due to my video lagging at this point...
Emi prays for Nico. Leo goes to see her. He asks for the truth. Emi replies he knows it already; she didn't do anything about the explosion nor their kid. She'd never kill anyone. Leo, finally snaps out of his zero-logic logic and says he believes her. Does she forgive him? Emi just looks at him.
And with that emotionally tense situation, we have the Fin del Capítulo.
OMG Waterlily, I just read your comment. We had the same thought about the Middle Ages! Great minds think alike ;)
Gracias, Jarifa. Terrific recap.
Ding dong, Violeta is gone. Poppycock her saying that she fell in love with Rogelio. She never even got to know him, she targeted him at first sight.
Violeta's friend is loca too making up that tale for JJ.
I have to compliment Imelda for playing both sides, Rogelio's and Violeta's, just in case. The woman is strategic. Does she ever do anything simply because it's the right thing to do?
Heartbreaking, but I'm glad Gabriel now knows Martina has a problem. Alzheimer's is turning up more often in TNs sadly as it's turning up more in real life.
Diana, I also saw the Mujer promo. I guess one of the two novelas will go on 8PM and the other... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thank you Jarifa, your couch cap is wonderful and witty as always!!
‘Eva looks to heaven and tells God to stop paying attention to what she says.’ Cracked me up so much I had to explain to my grandma what the situation was and went I was laughing!
So they got to the height of the Violeta problem, the big false sexual harassment accusation and then folded almost immediately??? Interesting choice but I am happy I don’t like the storyline and would rather focus on other things.
Could you have ever imagined that the Martina we met in episode one would end up being the best grandma ever in Lucas’s eyes? She’s certainly come a long way!
Thank you Urban for your more than bare bones recap! I appreciate it all the more since I am still reading recaps only and keeping up this way. I was hoping to find time to watch too but that hasn’t happened. I will make sure I watch Monday’s episode though so I can provide a recap or at least notes.
So Esteban didn’t have time to get the will changes signed? I guess that means it’s up to MT to honor it or not? And since the reason wasn’t explained Bernarda is still on the hook for that explanation! I bet Diana is right and it will all hit the fan tonight!!
It’s surprising that evidence is coming forth so quickly to support Santos but I suppose with only 9 episodes left they don’t have time to throw him in jail for months and lull the bad guys into a false sense of security.
Thanks, everyone for stopping by the patio and commenting. Your comments make recapping worthwhile.
That scene with Paula and Rogelio in the restaurant where she asks him if he wanted to be her everything and he answered with his "eternamente" would have been a perfect schmaltzy ending for the novela. They should have saved it with twenty episodes to go but then again, maybe that indicated the end of their story in the novela. There are plenty of other plots that need to be finished as well as a couple that have been alluded to but not fully explored. Should be god!
The highlights for me were the therapist scenes with Ignacio/ Lucas and Martina and her bald rose plants/and Paula giving Rogelio the bracelet and asking him the only question that matters.
waterlily, "And if he doesn't love Casandra, why propose?" Exactly. Is he that desperate to be paired up with somebody? Guess so. I feel sorry for Cass since we know that he said he loved her but then told the truth to Cecilia. There is no hope for Ignacio. His therapist should tell him that "good enough" is not the right decision.
Liz, "Ignacio is changing and I’m wondering now if he and Cecilia will end up together" Me, too. The anguish in their scene when he was leaving waling about Cass was palpable but then he went ahead and proposed to Cass anyway. His therapist should have told tell him that "good enough" is never the right response.
Diana, thanks. This episode had a lot of important dialogue so I tried to translate as much as I had time for. Eva made me laugh. I loved Imelda: "She tells him to not be confused. She is not him. She isn't looking for anyone else”. I wish she would find somebody else ANYBODY but Fernando. He is so unlikeable. "I find Ignacio’s sessions with his therapist very poignant. She dispensed such wise advice that when one is desperate, they must find and use what they can as a means to survive." She sure turned the tables quickly on him, didn't she? Suddenly he had a the new point of view!
Susan, "I felt truly sorry for Igy last night . The look on his face as he gazed mesmerized at his tiny son really got to me . Did he have his own epiphany at this moment ?" Maybe. I will remember his character long after this novela is gone. Great script writing and acting for that character.
Niecie, "Heartbreaking, but I'm glad Gabriel now knows Martina has a problem. Alzheimer's is turning up more often in TNs sadly as it's turning up more in real life." A character had Alzheimers in "Mi familia tiene más familia" and in a Netflix offering in Spanish that I saw and I am sure others that I no longer remember. I wonder if there is really a higher rate of Alzheimers or if it is being more easily and quickly diagnosed these days. I can easily say I am already tired of it being a PSA. To be honest I am sick of all medical PSA's and commercials. Guess I got that off my chest. ;) There are enough serious health problems in real life. That being said , it is being handled very well here. It isn't as if Martina woke up one day and didn't know anyone. Martina's vacant look is downright creepy.
Darcy, Eva can be so funny. She and the staff are always welcome with their goofiness. "So they got to the height of the Violeta problem, the big false sexual harassment accusation and then folded almost immediately??? Interesting choice but I am happy I don’t like the storyline and would rather focus on other things." That is how I feel. Violeta is young and crazy and clearly inexperienced so I was not surprised she caved so quickly. I was ready for that plot line to end as soon as it started. A PSA? There are crazy women who could land a guy in jail for doing nothing.
Weirdo, thanks for recaping this. I was just soo mad at everyone.
What I don't understand is why those people believed Emilia killed two people when the reality is she gave those families their jobs. I mean, they take Roberta's side when they could have just sat and done nothing. I don't get their anger. Did that other miner's mum got them to join her or what? And how they believe a person who never had their best interests in mind is crazy to me. Roberta has put their safety at risk. I know people can be naive and so on. But this is just absurd. They were ready to burn her!
Leo's mother didn't even have to try hard to manipulate him. He believed everyone except the woman he claimed to love. He simply does not deserve her. It will take a miracle for them to redeem him. Now Leo would have to make sure Roberta doesn't poison Nico against his mother. But he most pprobably won't because he has 0 idea how awful she is. If God himself descended from the sky and told him his mother is a criminal, he wouldn't believe it I bet. If Emilia forgives him, I'll be disappointed. Even if she does, Leo just doesn't seem to have enough character to do something where Emilia is concerned. He doesn't love her enough to trust her and doesn't know his own mother and the kind of hold she has over him. I wonder what he himself thinks would happen if E forgave him. Is he going to go against his own mother? Does he genuinely believe Nico is in danger with her? Or would he refuse to believe it and thus wouldn't do anything. What are they going to do with this 'galan?
Adleberto's wife was impressive, though. It was a joy to watch.I'm a bit concerned she didn't tell the entire pueblo through the loudspeakers that Addled is a useless infeliz and an unfaithful bastard who refuses to provide for his own kid.
I think that they meant to say that the explosives found on Emilia's clothes required something to set them off. They said something about 'cargo directo' so they apparently think she deliberately caused the colapse of the mine in order to cause the explosion. And Leo had the stupidity to ask her oif she caused the accident! Why the hell would she do it, you idiot?
I hope we get the finale date tonight. My guess is that we will get a 2-hour one on Monday the 23rd unless there are pre-emptions next week.
It also looks like Maria Teresa will still be in the doldrums until the next three or four episodes are over so she will tell Marco about the situation of the will. We all know the possible consequences of that.
Good for Clemente that he is honest and forthright for real justice. When the crap hits the fan and he makes the news his art career might be helped.
Great minds, indeed! Loved those Middle Ages comments. I was an historical reenactor for nine years and I can tell you that nobody in that world ever chose a peasant persona. My only "peasant" clothes were worn when I was head chef for my territory's feasts.
I did not watch any previous version of this story but it seems over the top for people in a village like this to want to burn anyone at the stake in 2023.
As for the twists and turns of plots I have been irritated with that ever since YNCELH. It's as though the writers think all viewers have short attention spans. Give moi a break.
Roberta almost looks like she intends to bribe someone in the women's prison to kill Emilia so that the mine ownership goes to Nico whom she obviously intends to control.
I have newly-found respect for Gilberta in what she is doing to Addled. I can't wait for their daughters to find out.
As for Leo, we know writers do this to the galan at least half the time. For now let's just enjoy the sight of the shirtless Osvaldo de Leon. He looks even better now than he did in PNP.
Weirdo, your marvelous wit and sense of humor had me nodding in grateful appreciation for every word. Utterly fantastic.
“Back in Medieval times, but they're burning the wrong witch” was sublime.
I so enjoy learning new vocabulary. Today it was "castigo de Dios" and "las noticias corren como el áire" among others.
I thought it rather a pathetic, ragtag group descending on Emilia and Sebas. It quickly became apparent that while few in number, they were filled with an all-consuming hatred. Burning them alive at the makeshift stake? Remind me never to seek refuge in that neighborhood.
“I wasn't sure if I liked Seb at first, but he's a better galán than Leo at this point”. Weirdo, you are exactly right! Sebas has proven time and again he has the “right stuff”. Leo has gone from hero to zero in sixty seconds flat. As you noted waterlily” Leo's mother didn't even have to try hard to manipulate him. He believed everyone except the woman he claimed to love”. Exactly! He better pull a miracle rabbit out of his hat and do something to save Emilia or I’m done! ☹
“Roberta screams to her to leave with dignity. No comments. As the cops take Emi, Roberta tells Nico Emi killed his father. Seb screams at him not to believe it. Roberta takes Nico and Marijó away. Seb hugs Gael. What a tragic scene”. It was Weirdo and you captured it to perfection.
My almost telenovio Orlando also failed miserably last night. He has allowed Leo to lambaste him with no tangible reaction and drunk the kool-aid of believing Roberta. What a waste.
Addled and Berta? I can’t even…When I saw that sly, secretive smile of Miriam’s, I realized I’d certainly underestimated her! Sly fox, that one.
I fear Emilia hasn’t gone through the worst of it, by any means. I’m still worried and anxious as to whatever that serum was they injected her with at the hospital and what the long term effects might be.
Diana
Great work, Jarifa.
What I said about plot twists above also applies to this series. However this situation with Violetta was both annoying and ridiculous and I'm glad to see it end. Not that sexual harassment isn't an important issue, but I have to wonder what the Mexican audience thought of this and whether this was in the original Turkish version.
In addition to everything else said, Vi needs a shrink with whom she needs a minimum of two weekly appointments... out of our sight.
With only 21 episodes to go we're likely to have another short-term crisis in addition to Martina's decline.
"For now let's just enjoy the sight of the shirtless Osvaldo de Leon. He looks even better now than he did in PNP".
OK Urban, you've twisted my arm. For the time being, I will soak in his visage and disregard what he says. 😊
Diana
Diana, while I was recapping PNP I noticed him and said he would become a leading man ASAP. He's working out more and getting man-scaped so... yeah.
Carlos Gatica (Sebastian) is another nephew of Luis Gatica.
Weirdo, wow...just wow. Thank you so much for that spectacular , detailed recap. I haven't had a chance to watch this episode yet, but now I will know exactly what these folks are saying .
I am in awe of you,Weirdo. Your native language is Greek , and you are translating Spanish into English . Remarkable ! I have had students who speak multiple languages , and they always amaze me. Your fluency in English is impressive.
I can't believe that Miriam went to Berta, and I am amazed at Berta's reaction ! Hey, I think she has earned the " Gigi." You go, girls ! Put that little big man in his place.
I figured Sara would tell Leo that they had bunny hopped . She is probably pregnant by Danilo, but will convince Leo that he is the father. Uff.
I am in love with Seb. There are good guys in this world in real life, and Seb is their representative in this telenovela . The actor is doing an outstanding job with this role . I look forward to seeing him in other telenovelas in the fufure.
Urban, yes, not going to lie, Oswaldo is fine . I just feel sorry for him because of the way the writers have written his character. I like seeing the strong, confident, intelligent Leo.
I think it's unanimous. Osvaldo is indeed "fine"! Not quite sure how his character will redeem himself here but...
Urban, I had no idea Sebastian was part of the famous Gatica clan! Thanks for that info.
Susan, Carlos is doing a great job here. I've liked him more and more in each successive TN he has been in.
Diana
Notes from the couch . . . busy day, busy weekend ahead so this is "the short and sweet" version aka as "the little here and there" edition.
-Paula actually put her guitar string bracelet on Rogelio. He didn't have it on the next day.
-Fernando is still ragging on Imelda about how she should be taking care of HER kids. She is still reminding him they are THEIR kids. Her mother is no better and agrees with him. (YAWN)
-The doctor tells Martina that he wants her to take an angiotomography test which will show the condition of her arteries and blood vessels and if there are any abnormalities. He is happy to see Paula since he thinks that Martina should always be accompanied. Martina still doesn't like that. At the end of the episode, the doctor calls and tells Martina that he has the results of the test and wants to see her in person because the results are not good.. She takes a cab alone to his office. He tells her she has Alzheimer's .
-Felipa still hasn't forgiven Melitón so he got up at four in the morning to get her some buñuelos and atole. He asks her to forgive him. He know that he is stupid but he is afraid of not having enough money for his kids. She says as long as they have the strength to work, there will be no problems. She also informs him that she will be in charge of the money they both earn from here on. She thanks him for what he brought her and she isn't sharing the buñuelos.
-Since the Iturbide company is doing great and soon will be doing better than when they left Morelia and even bad publicity didn't seem to have had an effect on the company, Ignacio is looking for new way to get to get to the Iturbides. It turns out that the Monarca's influence is even growing. It is as if she never was in Mexico City. Ignacio decides he is going to lessen the Monarca's influence by starting a new foundation to rival hers. He easily gets Beatriz on board since they both cannot stand the Monarca's arrogance. Beatriz tries to get some the foundations' members to jump ship with her but has no luck. They tell her there is only one Monarca (and it isn't her. ) Imelda is not happy to hear that her mother is working with Ignacio because it could cause problems for her with the Iturbides. She tells Fernando what is going on.
-Andrea tells Luis she is no longer interested. She is dating a lawyer named Marcelo from her family firm in Mexico City. Masochist that he is, Luis asks her how is Marcelo different from him. She tells him that ssehand Marcelo are both lawyers, like the same things and above all, he isn't in love with somebody else. She agrees to stay friends with Luis.
-Fidel goes goofy on us lecturing Cecilia about father's rights. (YAWN) When she needs a babysitter, he tells her to ask Ignacio. She thinks that is not a bad idea.
-Martina tells Blanca that she is ready for her and Marco to have children. Blanca has to tell her that is not in their plans.
-Marco tries to talk Honorio into being partner for his hotels on wheels. He says he will think about it. . .
-A drunken macho from a small town comes to pull his son out of the music school. He needs him to work on Saturdays. Paula tries to convince him to let the boy come on Saturdays. They will pay for his transportation and all expenses. His son is talented. His wife threatens her husband with reporting him for domestic violence since she has witnesses of his drunkeness and abuse if he insists that his son not attend the music school. He leaves muttering she will pay for this.
-JJ marches Violeta straight from her hospital bed over to the Iturbides where she delivers a tearful apology for what she did.
-The principal aka as "the general" catches Lucas calling her " the soldier" She asks what he said. He answers . .. nothing.
-Ulises and Ale are moving back to Sayulita like now.
-For a woman who only wants to be friends with Honorio, Micaela sure was jealous when another woman was flirting with him.
-Cecilia asks Ignacio to babysit Camilo for a couple of hours at her place. He happily agrees and has a great time with his son. He calls Cass to come over. He thinks that Camilo needs a little brother or sister. Cecilia comes back and is not happy that Cass is there. Ignacio never mentioned she would be coming over. Cass apologizes and leaves. Ignacio calmly suggests that Cecilia go to therapy for the sake of their son.
-Martina tells Gabriel how overboard Imelda is going with the wedding. He reminds her that she wanted something simple. She explains that Imelda is trying to show herself off as an event planner, so she is going to allow her to do what she wants.
-Martina asks Gabriel to go with her to place flowers on her mother's tomb on the anniversary of her death. Martina remembers having run away with Gabriel and how her mother tracked her down when Gabriel was out getting food. Her mother slapped her and called her shameless for running away with a MAN!! She told Martina that because of her, her father was at death's door. He had a heart attack when she ran away with Mr. Nobody. If she didn't come home, she would regret it the rest of her life. They could make it seem like nothing happened. Martina went with her mother.
-Fernando wants Ignacio out of the company. Rogelio tells him they have to make sure that their mother doesn't find out he is behind the new foundation. Then they need to wait until he makes a mistake and then they can get rid of him. Fernando also wants Rogelio to fire JJ. Rogelio says that is not so easy because he is their partner in several areas. They cannot run him out with no reason. Fernando has a reason: he doesn't like JJ flirting with Imelda. (REALLY?)
That is it for me. Please add anything I left out.
My favorite scene was Melitón with his bag of buñuelos and his thermal pitcher of atole.
My least favorite scene was any scene with whiney Fernando.
Jarifa, another first-rate, world-class recap. I was lost during several pivotal conversations but as always, you explained everything I knew I missed and more importantly, what I hadn’t realized I missed!!
Poor Martina! I wonder if she will fight surrounded by her family or take flight thinking she will spare them what is bound to be a brutal deterioration.
Beatriz is so annoying and so self-serving. I rather cheered when Imelda invited her to leave when she’d barely had time to sit and whine. Was Imelda reading Cosmopolitan? She looks like a Cosmo girl!
Ignacio’s vow to help Violeta snare Rodrigo had barely fallen flat when he sprang into action to team with Beatriz on a rival foundation. No grass growing under his feet.
Cecilia did listen to Fidel and kindly offered Ignacio a chance to babysit. Naturally, Ignacio took a golden opportunity and quickly tarnished it by inviting Cass. I was a bit surprised that Cass, who seems fairly savvy, agreed to go. “Ignacio calmly suggests that Cecilia go to therapy for the sake of their son”. Huh?? Although I think her reaction was tinged a bit with jealousy, Cecilia had every right to be upset, walking in to see Cass, whom she hadn’t invited and didn’t expect to see, holding her son.
I didn’t realize Martina put the pressure on Blanca to have children. Good for Blanca for speaking up! I also missed Marco wanting to be partners with Honorio. I hope they do, they’ll make a great team.
It was a very interesting look Gabriel gave Luis. Not quite condescending but not warm either. Whatever it was it left Luis non-plussed. Andrea made the right decision; she needs to come first and not be peering over her shoulder every time they are in Paula’s presence.
Let’s hope Violeta’s appearance is the last leg of her apology tour. Basta
The always good-natured Micaela was steaming with jealousy watching Honorio being flirted with! Girl, if you don’t want him, it’s obvious someone else will. Time to take Honorio out of the “friend” zone!
Meliton is so sweet, of course Felipa can’t stay mad at him indefinitely. Right? 😊 He made the right move, the bunelos looked delish.
Diana
Thanks so much everyone! Get ready for many ITAs because I agree with everything I read.
Waterlily, "I was just soo mad at everyone" could be an alternative title to this episode.
I am also very angry at the people for believing Roberta. But I have seen instances of people believing someone who is so obviously lying in real life, so it didn't surprise me, except from the burning part.
ITA about Leo and Berta. Although I still think Berta was totally out of character, but still. I liked her in this episode.
Thanks for explaining the Leo-Orlando scene better. That makes more sense.
Urban, in the 2013 version, I can assure you no one tried to burn the protagonist.
ITA about Roberta.
Diana, "Remind me never to seek refuge in that neighborhood" was so funny!
ITA about Leo and Emi.
Susan, thanks so much! I'm still working on my Spanish and my German. I also always wanted to learn Russian, but that can wait. I want to become a polyglot in the future (a real one, not one of these "I speak 27 languages" but only in A1 level).
"I can't believe that Miriam went to Berta, and I am amazed at Berta's reaction" me too!
Yes, I think this is Sara's plan. Ugh.
ITA about Seb.
A HUGE change from the OG is Tigre being alive. In La Patrona, Tigre died in that explosion.
I keep forgetting the CEFR is only European.
Here's a link that briefly explains it.
There's also a pdf but I can't link it here. If anyone is more interested, type "cefr levels can do statements" and it'll pop up. It's more detailed.
Unfortunately due to a technical problem the recap will be delayed. I'll be able to watch tomorrow, so that's when you should expect the recap. Thank you for your patience.
Jarifa, your recap hit the spot. I love the way you dish it out.
For a woman who only wants to be friends with Honorio, Micaela sure was jealous when another woman was flirting with him.
Yay! Yep, Micaela was shook up. I wish the TN had given Honorio and Micaela more screen time.
"Although I think her reaction was tinged a bit with jealousy, Cecilia had every right to be upset, walking in to see Cass, whom she hadn’t invited and didn’t expect to see, holding her son."
Diana, so true. No one wants their babysitter to bring along a friend without asking first (and my answer would've been "No because I need all your attention focused on the baby.").
Of course Imelda is right about her right to work and Fernando is touting up motherhood because he's jealous of JJ, but I have to add Imelda has always lacked emotion with her kids.
Martina gets the dreaded diagnosis. Diana Bracho has been incredible in this role.
That Sara is not only determined and relentless in getting Leo back, she must be pretty strong . I noticed that when Leo passed out, he had his pants on, but when he woke up the next a.m. , those pants were on the bedspread. Yikes . Note to self : Do not pass out around this loca mujer.
OT...I saw a promo for a second season of " Mujer." Que? I didnt see the end episodes of season one . I don't think Uni showed those last episodes unless they showed them at a different time than the usual 10 pm. QTH?
Gracias, Jarifa.
I agree that Cassandra had no biz being in Cecelia's place without her permission. Ignacio doesn't learn, does he?
Fernando is no alpha male. Compared to Rogelio and JJ he is still an immature brat. He also doesn't have any real friends. Rogelio and JJ were good friends since college (at least), Marco has friends, and Luis is capable of having friends. Fernando is the only one of the four that has none. However, he is right about getting rid of Ignacio this time since we know that Ignacio is still starting trouble.
There is a DV story coming with the parents of the little boy in Paula's school. That will get very ugly very fast.
Still not buying Violetta's apology. She is likely to only be sorry she was caught.
Tierra viewers, I will not begin typing that one up. It's a bit longer than usual but probably all the rest of them will also be. Look for it around teatime.
Minas
I don't remember the last time it was so hard to watch a telenovela. Is there anyone in that town who isn't either a coward or corrupt? How long is she supposed to spend locked up? I saw a preview of next episode where someone says that the problem is that la patrona's son is naive and doesn't realise how justice works in this pueblo. Someone else has noticed this. This episode made me wonder if those who betray justice for bribes ever get some kind of punishment from life itself. Someone once told me they didn't believe carma existed. I saw a bit of a documentary about a guy who was a paedophile but since he convinced everyone he was a good guy and since he hid behind some kind of charity work or something similar, nothing happened to him. He died at an old age.
For this reason I like telenovelas. I at least can be sure Roberta will pay. But I want it to happen right about...now!
Jarifa, thank you for another excellent recap .
Okay, adios Violeta, you crazy , mixed up kid. Next !
Marco and Honorio would make a good partnership. Throughout this whole telenovela, Honorio hasn been a calm, kind presence.
Marco remains my favorite character. I wonder if Blanca is going to end up pregnant because this show has produced more babies than any other telenovela I have ever watched . " Babies R Us."
Poor Martina. Her teenage love has magically returned to her , and now she won't recognize him. Awful fate.
I didnt think Luis and Andrea would end up together . They are both too meh. Luis needs to get some spark .
Ceci was justified being upset when she returned home and saw Cass holding her newborn. Igy never uses his head . He needs many more counseling sessions .
Beatriz is an awful person. Lately every meeting between her and Imelda ends in a fight.
Igy wants another baby with Cass. Geez, dude, slow down . Yes, you have proven you can make babies . ....but slow down . Work on yourself and drop the revenge plans .
Waterlily , I am with you. It is very hard to watch Roberta keep bambozling the villagers and using the corrupt politicians . As you noted, at least the evil get their anvils in the end in telenovelas.
Em has two strong, devoted guys in love with her , but they both are helpless against Roberts control of the people and officials in that town.
Weirdo, we are so grateful for your wonderful recaps and look forward to whenever you can post them.
Waterlily, I missed the length of Emilia's sentence but fear it's decades...I found last night extremely depressing and hard to watch.
Susan, I think Seb is definitely strong. Leo however is reluctant to stand up to Roberta. Just because she is his mother doesn't mean she is a good person. He's seen enough to know that isn't at all true. She is truly a tyrant. Frightening.
Diana
Episode 53: Part 1 of 3
Marco left with nasty words to Bernarda. [There was a full moon over the area, so I hope everyone had silver pentagrams to wear.]
Rut went to the lockup and accused Santos of covering his tracks. Santos replied he did not have to as he was innocent. Rut said that any release would not prove he didn't do the crime so he had better not think of running away. Santos said he had nothing to hide. He was then released.
Marco entered Maria Teresa's study saying that the workers were at their jobs. She thanked him quietly without enthusiasm. She did not like this situation because she wanted her workers to be happy. Marco continued to trash-talk Santos. When he said the workers would work contentedly under himself Maria Teresa looked doubtful [Maybe she saw the Star Trek episode “The Ultimate Computer”].
Trejo told Rut he was finishing the report but Rut was not satisfied. He accused Trejo of betrayinghim and told him if that were the case he would pay.
Santos walked out of the police station with Remedios and Valentina was there to embrace him. He was grateful that they believed in him.
Bernarda went home looking for Valentina and Regina told her she was likely to be with Remedios. Bernarda was concerned that things were going badly and could get worse with Marco.
Santos went home with Remedios but said it would be best for him to leave the property.
Marco trash-talked Santos again, saying that the workers were very disorganized. He blamed all that for past problems. Maria Teresa looked at him and denied this, as in the last month things had gone very well. Marco credited that on her supervision. He then said to be calm because he was there and everything will be in order. She gave him the side-eye.
Remedios went out to get some chiles, leaving Valentina alone with Santos.
Norma tried to talk to Rut about Clemente. He didn't want to, saying he was content that Clemente came home on his own. Norma was concerned with his cold response and attitude. Rut was not good with the fact that Clemente was rejecting his efforts and not “becoming a real man.” He picked up his newspaper to indicate he wanted no further conversation about this.
Cris arrived at Remedios' house. He declined Santos' invitation to join them for dinner because of what was going on at the hacienda with Marco looking to have total control. Both Santos and Valentina looked at him in disbelief. Cris told them that Maria Teresa had asked Marco for help.
Maria Teresa and Marco had just finished eating and she told him she did not like to eat alone. She said she had trouble sleeping but declined his offer to stay overnight [as we flies on the wall sigh in relief] as she needed to get used to solitude. He excused himself to leave.
Norma was upset that Rut was unconcerned about Clemente's safety [Mujer, you are backsliding]. Rut called Clemente a patán and said it was alright with him if he never spoke to him again. He got up and left the dining room.
Grim walked right into La Soltera and told Adriana things just got more complicated and out of control. After the raid some of the girls wanted to return but this had no effect [Someone correct this if I'm mistaken]. Adriana was annoyed and Grim told her to keep her mouth shut. If she talked he would not go down alone and she had better not make this more difficult for him. He would tell all that he knew about her. She cursed as he left.
Diana, yes, Leo is not standing up to his mother. His sad eyes really get to me . He looks beaten and defeated , and Sara is always hovering around him to pick up the pieces if he gives her the chance . ugh .
The galan in " Entre MI Amor y tu amor" wouldnt believe the leading lady that his mother had killed her parents and was after her until the end of the novela. It was very frustrating .
Friday's episode was horrific . uff Can't wait to discuss it.
It is a rainy , chilly day here . brrr
Episode 53: Part 2 of 3
Marco was giving orders to a group of men that included Pepe to not allow anyone on La Esperanza. Pepe answered in the affirmative with the Jackal looking on. A half dozen women were trying to escape. Marco pulled out his pistol and threatened to kill them if they talked. They ran for it and Marco gloated at these lands being his.
Santos entered the hacienda to Maria Teresa's shock. He told her he was released because he was innocent and he was offended at her lack of trust in him. He ws madly in love with her and she had not trusted him after he had risked his life during the attack and risked his dignity in the city during the business negotiations. He had done all this for love.
Bernarda was about to look for Valentina when she returned with Cris and the news that Santos had been released. Bernarda was relieved. Cris said that Santos was on his way to talk to Maria Teresa about returning to La Esperanza.
Santos spoke of his pain that Maria Teresa – whom he loved for her uniqueness – could believe he could ever harm her father. Nothing hurt him more than how she treated him when he was arrested. She said it was because of her grief. He did not accept this.
Marco's men moved some crates and Marco paid off Pepe with a warning.
In contrast Santos had never doubted Maria Teresa, who had pointed out the discovery of her father's body in the back of his truck. She said she had no idea of her pain since then and asked his forgiveness. He looked like it hurt him to refuse it. He then walked out.
Susi had been one of the escapees. She made it to the henhouse, entered, and collapsed on the floor, sobbing.
The next morning Adriana was as nervous as Marco was pleased with himself and what he would think of as his good fortune. He told her Maria Teresa was going to sell him her property. Adriana commented that Esteban's death was very convenient for him. He said he had control of it now and this was merely business. He laughed as he exited. She looked side-eyed at his departure.
Susi was still asleep in the henhouse when Cris came in with the feed. She panicked and was afraid to tell him what happened. He got her to calm down and they left the henhouse to find Santos.
Maria Teresa was in her bed feeling lost. Nani brought her tea but she was completely out of it. They talked about Santos and the current problem. Maria Teresa said she could not face him anymore and had decided to leave the ranch.
Valentina and Regina talked about Santos then Valentina told her about the surgery that could enable her to hear. Just as importantly she told Regina that Clemente loved her.
Cris asked Genoveva for some food without telling her it was for Susi.
Maria Teresa went to see Valentina to ask what Esteban had said to her. Valentina said it was nothing. MR pressed to hear what they had talked bout and Valentina did not understand. Maria Teresa told her about the change in Esteban's will which Valentina also did not understand.
Susi ate as though she had been starved and was afraid to be alone. When Cris mentioned Marco's name she was frightened, saying that he was very dangerous. Cris told her she would be safe in his place and not to open the door to anyone [We have our fingers crossed].
Episode 53: Part 3 of 3
Maria Teresa was not buying this and seemed o the verge of accusing Valentina of something highly improper. Bernarda then arrived as Valentina shouted to Maria Teresa that if the money was so important she could keep it because Esteban was more than his money. Bernarda asked what this was about and Valentina began to answer her.
Ariana went to Rut's office [That ground floor looks more like a 19th-C gentlemens' club] and played the damsel in distress. She then said she'd better leave, which got him to kiss her.
Maria Teresa demanded to know what Valentina had done that her father changed his will. Valentina replied that they had only talked and “if you don't believe me it's your problem, not mine.” Bernarda took a deep breath and told Valentina that she was also Esteban's daughter.
Rut Led Adriana to a chair and she said she felt alone with Marco always being at La Esperanza with Maria Teresa. She sometimes felt strong and okay but in fact felt very fragile [as we all roll our eyes]. He told her essentially to “fake it till you make it.” She tried to appeal to his jerkwad machismo and he was fool enough to fall for it.
Maria Teresa asked Bernarda what this was all about. She could not believe that her father would hide anything like this. Valentina asked her mother whether this was true. Bernarda admitted that Esteban didn't know until a few days previously. Valentina became angry that her mother had concealed this. All three women were crying by this time.
Santos was silently grinding spices in the molcajete when Remedios asked what was wrong. He told her he felt he had nothing to go back to at La Esperanza. If Marco was going to take charge so be it. Remedios reminded him that they both knew that this would not lead to anything good. “In the name of your godfather you can't leave Maria Teresa in that man's hands.”
Both Maria Teresa and Valentina demanded the full truth and Bernarda told them. Esteban had been drowning in grief when Maria Teresa's mother died. He was concerned about Maria Teresa. There had only been one sexual encounter, not a relationship. He and Maria Teresa had left within days for the city. Valentina demanded to know why her mother had never told him she was pregnant and Bernarda said that Maria Teresa needed him. Valentina replied that she also needed him. Many times. Bernarda had thought she would be enough and that she could raise her alone.
Remedios told Santos that him leaving La Esperanza was what Marcos wanted. “If you leave who knows what will happen?” Despite broken hearts he had to stay or Marco would destroy La Esperanza.
Valentina felt betrayed and accused Bernarda of selfishness. Maria Teresa started to leave but Bernarda stopped her, saying that they would not accept a single peso. Valentina accused her mother of making decisions that should be hers. She calmed down a little and continued to reproach Bernarda before walking out.

Thanks Jarifa, it was good to sit down half way through cleaning and have a good read!
I was so hoping Martina had a serious but fixable problem. I feel like she only recently became a nice person, accepting of everyone.
While Beatrice just gets worse. I don’t remember her being like this at the beginning. And wasn’t it said that her husband isn’t Imelda’s biological father. I wonder if that storyline will come out.
Felipa was cute when she slapped or pushed Meliton’s hand away when he tried to get some of whatever it was!
So Ignacio is once again going after an elderly woman to what-make her less popular. He’s really a lowlife and I hope Cass soon realizes it. And as a teenager I never brought a friend over without asking first, and only another girl. And probably only did that a couple of times.
A while ago I said Imelda and Fernando deserve each other-still think that!
Liz
Thanks Urban, that was great. Hopefully Susie will be the one to let everyone know what’s going on.
I did not like MT at all last night. She seemed to be accusing Valentina of somehow saying something to her dad to have him put her in the will. That on top of the way she was with Santos when he was in jail have me not caring about the intended two getting together.
She did seem to be less convinced of Marco’s leadership skills, or his talk of it. Maybe she’s starting to have her doubts.
I was surprised Marco and his men let the woman flee with just a warning to keep their mouths shut. But I guess the girls are really Grim’s business and once Marco got payed for them to be transported it wasn’t his problem.
I like your countdown. Surely we’ll start seeing some justice soon!
Liz
Thank you Jarifa once again for the view from your couch! You are amazing!
I don’t think Ignacio suggested therapy to Cecilia because he thought she was wrong to be angry. Remember, his therapist said that Cecilia should come to sessions with him so they could talk about co-parenting. I think he was just suggesting what the therapist said, and it was odd timing, story of his life!
It is sad about Martina but we saw that coming. Too bad she snuck off by herself to get the diagnosis and didn’t take Paula!
Liz, I don't think Marco wants any grief from Grim. Not only would it mean losing dirty money but he loses a possible source of information about Adriana. I am certain he is still curious about about Adriana's past.
We have never seen Marco in his own fields so the only employee we've really seen is the Jackal whom he bribes to do his dirty work. Both of them deserve to meet bad ends.
Maria Teresa knew that Valentina had the hots for Santos before any of this and managed to withhold her reactions to this until now. Now her reactions are exploding.
Thanks Urban for all the details!
I am not shocked that MT went for the jugular with Valentina. I kind of suspected it would happen when I read MT was looking for Vale. I figured she would be demanding an explanation from someone who had no idea what she was talking about, the novela way! Lol I just hoped that she wouldn’t say anything too harsh before learning she was talking to her sister. It sounds like it was tempered at least a little! I agree with you though Liz, I hate it when they take an otherwise likable character and put them in the scenarios like believing the worse about the galán with no proof or nasty accusations of the innocent. In MT’s limited defense though she had just lost her father, grief is a terrible advisor and an overwhelming companion. My brother yelled in my grandma’s face the day after my mom died. It was a horrible thing to do and it was not okay, but he’s never done anything like that before and he had better never do it again! He felt awful immediately and really regretted it but grief tears up emotions and leaves everyone raw!!
Glad Susi was found but yeah with Marco ‘helping out’ that ranch is not the right place for her!!!
Urban, things were spiraling out of control last night but your wisdom and keen eye perfectly recorded everything that transpired. Well, well done…
‘[Maybe she saw the Star Trek episode “The Ultimate Computer”]” had me smiling; we needed that!
Santos’ broken persona was hard to watch. His words reflected his wounded heart and laid his soul bare. His raw emotions and palpable pain were proof positive of his utter devastation that the woman he loved, for whom he would have done anything for, did not believe him. Maria Teresa realized her mistake and now must work to regain her place in his heart. If she has any defense, “grief is a terrible advisor and an overwhelming companion” (lovely Darcy, thank you).
“Marco gloated at these lands being his” is exactly right. Finally, Maria Teresa finally seems to be having some small misgivings about Marco, who is being a bit too proprietary about her, as well as the ranch. “She said she had trouble sleeping but declined his offer to stay overnight [as we flies on the wall sigh in relief] as she needed to get used to solitude”. Thank heavens…
“Rut called Clemente a patán and said it was alright with him if he never spoke to him again.” What parent says that? There is no excuse whatsoever for Norma still being in that house.
Have all of Bernarda’s secrets come bubbling to the surface? Watching Maria Teresa receive another crushing blow and seeing Valentina completely caught off guard and distraught was tough. Bernarda saying “they wouldn’t accept a single peso” was not her decision to make. Valentina is entitled to it.
Chris should have told Geno immediately about Susi. She is sure to discover her and then accusations are going to fly.
Rut is starting to turn on Trejo who still has some part to play in all of this I believe.
Diana
‘Bernarda saying “they wouldn’t accept a single peso” was not her decision to make. Valentina is entitled to it.’ Exactly right, Diana! Valentina should get 40% it’s what Estaban wanted and intended and MT knows that. I am betting she will do the right thing once she’s had time to work through the shock and process!
When you have such a lawyer, what do you want enemies for? - Part 1/2
The technical problem was solved later than expected, so this is mostly from memory.
We start with Emi and Leo. Leo's face suddenly looks very punchable when he says he can't be that hard on Roberta because she's his mother. Emi tells him to justify what she's doing, locking her up for something she didn't do. Leo's statements turn 180° at this and he says he believes her, he knows she didn't do anything to harm their child and he'll get her out of here.
Nico screams to Rob that he wants to see his mom. She hugs him and says he won't see her for a long time, nor Tigre who's too sick to take care of him and adds he has her. Personally, I'd rather not have anyone.
Next day:
Jenny and Sara talk. Sara says she can't believe Jenny wants to work in the precinct. Jenny asks her what she wants to do. Sara will -unfortunately- stay in San Lorenzo for some time to "fight for Leo". Their discussion is interrupted when Jenny sees Míriam. She asks her what the hell is she doing here, Sara asks her who is this woman and Jenny says she's their father's lover. Sara goes all ¿Qué? Berta enters and says she knows everything and she'll stay here. Both Jenny and Sara are shocked. Berta adds that it's not Míriam's fault, but Addled's. (I mean, I agree that Addled is the one who's most responsible, since he was the married one, but Míriam knew this; it's not like it wasn't her responsibility at all.)
Leo contacts a lawyer to help Emi.
Roberta stops by the police cell to show Emi the papers that prove she has Nico's custody. Emi attacks her I think, I can't remember if it was when she saw her or now, and says that her son doesn't have anything to do with that family, he's hers. Rob makes a scene in front of Orlando, saying that Emi is dangerous and showing some freshly made wounds on her hands, which I swear I'm sure she made them herself, because all this time she was perfectly normal. Orlando tells Emi to calm down.
Nico asks Leo if his mom did kill his dad. Leo asks him who told him that. Nico says it was his grandmother Roberta. Leo tells him his father's death was an accident, to which Nico replies that both he and his mother hated his dad (maybe he should start wondering why?) and screams that it's not true (his death being an accident).
The lawyer goes to see Emi. If the miners testify that she and her father were called to the scene, there's a chance she'll be declared innocent.
But there's no way that'll happen because we're not even half episodes in. Patricio threatens the miners to make them testify against Emi. One miner says he's not willing to lie and Patricio says they'll harm his family if he doesn't.
Addled owns money to some people, who want it back now.
Roberta is drinking wine with Fidel and says that she wants to see "that murderer" pay. Uh, girl, now you believe in the lie you created? Addled comes in and says he needs a loan (and a big one, I think he asked for 3,000 pesos?). Roberta says she'll give him the money, only if he schedules Emi's trial for ASAP. He agrees, Rob gives him some money that she has hanging around and says she'll give him the rest when Emi is declared guilty. Uh oh.
Days later...
It's that time of the telenovela year again; the court. Leo is sitting on his mother's side of the room and not on Emi's, which is saying something. Some guy, who I assume is the mexican version of a state prosecutor, is much better than Emi's lawyer. Leo goes to him (Emi's lawyer) and tells him to do something.
When you have such a lawyer, what do you want enemies for? - Part 2/2
Some angry people scream that they want Emi locked up. Fidel looks at them with a "haha, people really are THAT stupid" face. Can't blame him here.
Some miners, including Ramiro, lie about Emi. (At least in the OG we didn't have to see his stupid face anymore; he died in the mine explosion and his kid later worked for the OG's version of Roberta, for "revenge". It was a nice plot line.) Tigre freaks out and Emi does as well.
The lawyer, who as 99% of lawyers, only wants money, is actually working for Roberta underground. He gives some water to Emi, "to make her more calm" and when she drinks it he and Roberta exchange looks.
Actually, the water wasn't plain water; it had something in it that made Emi appear insane and overly aggressive. She smacked Roberta when she was testifying and saw Rob everywhere smiling. Everyone in the room had a WTF creeped out expression by Emi's behaviour, but the #1 prize goes to Sara. I cracked up at her facial expression.
Joaquina keeps company to Nico.
The trial goes from bad to worse; Leo, Gael and Mar all mess up spectacularly. The only one who is more decent is Seb. Emi's lawyer, who is working for Rob, tells the judge there isn't enough proof that Mau raped Emi when Leo mentions it!
Zaira has given Tigre his pills and they're outside of the court room now.
The jury has declares Emi guilty. The judge says she will get the maximum sentence for both murders, 40 years in total. Seb, Leo, Mar and Gael promise her they'll take care of Nico and they'll get her out of there. Roberta continues her justice crap and Emi says she knows she's innocent.
Adalberto offers Orlando a better job now that he took care of the Emi situation. Addled admits he persuaded the judge to vote against Emi. Orlando looks disgusted, attacks him and Addled pulls a gun out! Fidel calms the situation down and Orlando leaves. I think he's starting to regret helping them. Too late, bud.
Leo tells the lawyer he knows he was sold to Roberta. The lawyer of course says he has no idea what he's talking about.
Mar, Gael and Seb tell Zaira and Tigre the bad news. They're all devastated. Roberta gives them an evil smirk as she passed by.
Roberta is telling the justice crap to the press. Leo approaches and ridicules her, saying he knows she had something to do with the court's decision and that Emi is innocent.
Roberta calls Fidel and tells him to whatever is necessary to stop Leo from being against her. Fidel accepts at last.
Leo is with Emi's family. Leo tells them about his suspicions about their lawyer; Zaira then says that they're right when they say "los abogados son como los plátanos; no hay nadie derecho" (which could translate to "the lawyers are like bananas; there isn't anyone straight" - derecho also means right, so right makes more sense about lawyers, but straight more about both. Translate it as you wish).
Leo later asks Sara to help him find a good lawyer from México DF, she's the best in public relations. Sara agrees and they try to get in a car. I say "try to" because some dude on a motorcycle wearing a helmet starts shooting at Leo multiple times. Sara screams.
Emi wakes up somewhere that's definitely NOT prison. A doctor lets Roberta in Emi's room (Emi has her hands tied). She asks Rob where she is, Rob replies she's in a manicomio (insane asylum). "Welcome to hell", Rob adds. Emi screams and Roberta just smiles.
And with Emi's screams, we have the Fin del Capítulo.
I was so mad at Emilia for forgiving Leo. "she is my mother. It's hard to believe she is bad' or something similar. On some level I do get him, but he must realise facts speak for themselves so he has to make a choice: Emilia or his mother. Roberta isn't even manipulating him, he just can't accept sh's evil. Because of that Emilia has less people on her side. Why can't he be smart and pretend he believes her crap and get some info about her evil deeds or something? The writers of this masterpiece don't respecrt women all that much if they made Emilia's character forgive him and repeat all the usual phrases. In this situation it's way better to have the attitude that Roberta does: you are not helping me, you are against me.'punchable face' made me laugh, weirdo, and that's about the only good thing I can say about that scene.Did one of the writers get drunk while writing this episode? Leo's behaviour makes him seem crazy. One minute it's she's my mum, then the next oh please forgive me.
That miner should have lied and later told the truth. Why tell people who are threatening you what you intend to do? I hate how they make the good guys be so stupidly honest. You can be good without being stupid, surely.
I was confused by Emilia saying 'you betray me' when Leo was talking about Muauricio raping her and the prosecutor said something along the lines of you are not only admiting she threatened him but also justifying it. I assumed he was talking about justifying Emilia, not Mauricio and him wanting to get his son from her.
When I was watching the trial, I was thinking 'please, werdo, tell me she will be released soon and not after twenty years.'
If Leo is injured, Seb is on his own, but he was on his own earlier so... Is Leo finally going to get some courage? Or is being nearly killed not bad enough? Didn't it occur to him his mother will bribe the lawyer? I do wonder where he was planning to get one she couldn't bribe.
This telenovela feels both tragic and stupid. The funny thing is that tragedy is a result of its stupidity. But I don't want to rewatch that episode ever again. I somehow forced myself to rewatch the episodes of en nombre del amor, where an aadult emotionally abused a child, but thattook a few tries. But here it's so damn hard because everyone is just dumb.
I don't get Orlando at all. Why does he not pack his bags and leave? Surely he can move somewhere where his father can't ruin his life. He doesn't want to be promoted if it's not based on his own marit, so why even help?He can talk all day long about how he is for justice, but surely the fact it's Emilia who is being acused should have made him suspicious. Why is it only now that he realises it's all a trap? Don't they test those explosives for her fingerprints or something? Do telenovelas ever have realistic court procedures? But then again, I remember a case in my country where an official released a criminal who was definitely a criminal. And another one where a girl's mother was acused of causing a car accident and killing her daughter iwhen there was clearly another driver who was driving over the permited speed limit but wo happened to have rich parents. So Mexicans aren't that far off with their 'if you are rich enough, the stupidest and craziest outcomes are possible' plots.
Nico getting so mad at Leo and saying they are lying was odd, though. One moment he says he misses his mother, but then he talks to Roberta, whom he barely knows, and whatever Leo says must be a lie. Even if he is grieving, it feels strange for him to just outright not believe someone whom he knows better.
Weirdo, I savored every word of your wise and wry recap.
“Leo's face suddenly looks very punchable when he says he can't be that hard on Roberta because she's his mother” was perfect!! His whining was hard to watch; it is Emilia who is Nico’s mother. Think man, think.
More stellar vocabulary including "los abogados son como los plátanos; no hay nadie derecho."
“Leo is sitting on his mother's side of the room and not on Emi's, which is saying something”. It spoke volumes Weirdo and I appreciate your pointing it out as I failed to realize how telling this was.
Whatever are they giving Emilia? What poison is coursing through her veins? Surely someone must realize how completly out of character her outburst in the courtroom was? Is everything going to be up to Seb??
Leo’s shooting propels Roberta into an even lower level in hell. That said, her visit to Emilia in the asylum after ripping her son from her, gloating in her perceived “victory” was equally as chilling. She personifies the darkest of human nature, pure, unadulterated evil.
Miriam is a conniving little minx and as far as Berta is concerned, a very convincing one.
“Orlando looks disgusted, attacks him and Addled pulls a gun out! Fidel calms the situation down and Orlando leaves. I think he's starting to regret helping them”. Sketchy details now clarified, it is time for Orlando to show his mettle. For or against. The choice is clear.
Waterlily, Nico is devoted to Emilia yet Roberta has skillfully immersed herself into his consciousness. I think it’s likely that as his mother isn’t there, a child’s natural inclination would be toward his grandmother although he doesn’t know her well.
Diana
Weirdo, thank you for every dastardly detail.
The writers have t thought very carefully about Leos storyline . He sent from drunk and doubting and dropping into bed with Sara to sorry and believing Emi is innocent . Que? Que? What? Poor Oswald is trying hard to make us believe this faulty reasoning . Did Leo not think it was a bad idea sitting next to his ex Sara in the courtroom ? Didn't he notice her next to him? I bet Sara is going to find another lawyer who will do nothing to help Em. Faithful , devoted Seb is Em's only hope .
It is going to be some fun with Miriam in the house . The sisters will love it . Maybe they will all share clothes until Miriam has a baby bump .
Orlando is another poorly written character . I am done with him . He deserves feckless Jenny . I wonder when his missing mom is going to pop up since he is too chicken to investigate what happened to her. My guess is that Rob made her disappear so that she could have that big prize Fidel.
Thanks to everyone for your comments!
Waterlily, ITA about Leo. The writers being drunk is the only logical explanation. And yes, "if you're not with me you're against me" is true.
"You can be good without being stupid, surely." Exactly! I'm sick of all these people.
That scene with Leo confused me too. It seemed like he was defending Emi. I'm clueless why she said that.
"This telenovela feels both tragic and stupid. The funny thing is that tragedy is a result of its stupidity." Made me laugh out loud!
"So Mexicans aren't that far off with their 'if you are rich enough, the stupidest and craziest outcomes are possible' plots" yes, unfortunately these things happen. I know a few cases like the ones you mentioned too. That's one reason why I like telenovelas; they ain't sugarcoating the truth.
ITA about Nico and Orlando.
Diana, " Surely someone must realize how completly out of character her outburst in the courtroom was? Is everything going to be up to Seb??" Unfortunately, it looks like it. I was also surprised that no one said anything about this. Gael, Marijó, Leo and Seb and no one?
I loved "She personifies the darkest of human nature, pure, unadulterated evil" about Rob. Someone was really good in English in school ;) but seriously, I love the way you use vocabulary.
Susan, ITA about "The writers have t thought very carefully about Leos storyline . He sent from drunk and doubting and dropping into bed with Sara to sorry and believing Emi is innocent . Que? Que? What?" Not well-thought out at all.
"Did Leo not think it was a bad idea sitting next to his ex Sara in the courtroom ?" I wondered about that too. If I were Emi, I'd be a bit concerned.
"Faithful , devoted Seb is Em's only hope ." So true.
I almost copy-pasted your entire paragraph about Orlando, and then I realised it was the whole paragraph! Lol I agree with everything. Although Fidel is also involved in this... I think it was said before the show started z so it's technically not a spoiler.
Has Jaime stopped commenting or is there a problem on my end? I couldn't see some of his comments that people quoted...
I totally forgot about this: Salvador is actually the guy who took the blame for the explosives in the first few episodes. The one Roberta "saved" in exchange for lying. Well, she didn't actually save him as it turns out, she had someone kill him.
Thanks for stopping by the patio and your comments.
Diana, Niecie, Urban, Susan, Liz, I think we all agreed about how out of touch Ignacio was to invite Cass over while he was babysitting. He seems to have the desire to change but he evidently still doesn't understand the concepts of privacy and permission when it applies to somebody other than him.
Darcy, "I think he (Ignacio) was just suggesting what the therapist said, and it was odd timing, story of his life! You can say that again.
Things should be popping again tonight with Martina dealing with her diagnosis.
Vencer has just finished airing in Mexico. Does anyone know what will replace it? The schedules I found still show vencer.
Thanks, Weirdo.
I agree that a manicomio is the true hell. 'I wonder who will be playing whatever corrupt doctor Roberta will bribe to torture Emilia.
As I've said before (during PNP) don't these facilities know what white rooms do to people? I guess that Roberta is hoping that Emilia will commit suicide before Nico can claim the mine. She will be manipulating him up until his 18th birthday unless Emilia can get the hell out of there.
