We open with Roberta telling Leo she will turn over custody of her grandson; he only needs to turn over ownership of the mine! Oh and go to the capital, taking Sara and Nico with him! She wants him to be happy with his wife…and children. Oh, the insincerity. The evil machinations…
Nico overhears and bursts in the room…He is later comforted by Joaquina. Later, Leo and she have a sweet scene together, he hugging her tightly.
Addled and Ezequiel confab; I think Addled says something about Orlando resigning…
Emilia is helped by her friends through the airport..
Zaira and Gael worry about Tigre. In the dark, under a full moon, rain steadily falling, Tigra has gotten his wheelchair stuck in the mud. As he tries to disengage, the chair tips over and he falls over, tumbling down a muddy hill, the wheelchair rolling right behind him.
Leo agrees to Roberta’s terms as she wants Nico to have as normal a childhood as possible (too late I fear).
Emilia summons up her courage and her friends help her up; they begin walking…Aleida and Danilo give her a pep talk and try and lift her spirits. She is determined to get her son back!
Tigre is devastated, crying to himself about Emilia, Gael. But mercifully, Gael and Zaira appear almost instantaneously, “papa” Gael pleads. Is he alive Zaira yells??
Later, we see Gael pushing Tigre in his wheelchair. Zaira is with them and she is wearing a pretty white dress. It appears they are going to church. Leo and Nico greet them. The priest comes out and asks for the novios. Oh my, it is a surprise wedding. Tigre kisses Zaira sweetly.
Roberta gives instructions to the miners, later smiling in malevolent delight talking about Emilia, likely thrilled she is dead. Hold that thought.
The wedding ceremony is in full swing. Sebas and Miriam (ack) are also there. The priest pontificates about great love…We see someone in a brown leather jacket watching at the back of the church (think it’s Ezequiel, hard to tell as he isn’t wearing his stupid uniform) who calls Addled right away.
The priest is talking about respect and all the emotions and elements in a happy, blessed marriage. As none of the couples presently married have anything remotely resembling this, it likely the priest’s words fell on oblivious ears.
Gigi has a bite to eat with her devoted daughters. They talk about Gigi’s non divorce. Jenny admits she and Orlando are back together. Jenny and Gigi are happy about Sara’s baby. A rare moment of togetherness for this trio, holding hands tightly.
Diana
Zaira looks luminous holding a beautiful bouquet of white roses. He gets to the part about supporting each other in sickness and in health, Tigre smiling widely. Gael gives the rings to be blessed. The priest pronounces Zaira and Tigre man and wife. A sweet kiss as Nico yells out to the newlyweds. He and Tigre fist bump as all applaud.
Emilia et al are in Barcelona. At dinner, Emilia asks Danilo and Aleida to help her; to teach her everything they know. She wants to be strong and invincible; she will not allow anyone to challenge her on the day she makes her triumphant return to San Lorenzo. The friends toast and Emilia thanks them, holding each of their hands tightly.
Sebas offers his congratulations and gets a huge hug from Nico. Nico calls Zaira his grandmother and Leo wishes them much happiness. Nico hugs Tigre; Gael and Nico fist bump. Vamos says Leo as they leave, everyone looking after them a bit sadly.
Miriam meets up with Addled. He manhandles her and she tells him to leave her alone. He is scornful she attended Zaira and Tigre’s wedding. Sebas comes to the rescue, defending Miriam, reminding the loathsome Addled she is pregnant. Addled calls him a mariachi (is that supposed to be insulting??) She and Sebas make it clear they are together and an incensed Addled leaves with a warning to Sebas. Sebas and Miriam hug.
Orlando leads Jenny down a hallway, his hands over her eyes. When he removes them, she sees a lovely home, I gather it is where they are going to live. She is delighted and they kiss as music swells in the background.
Back in Spain, a year later, a newly shorn (and even hotter) Danilo meets up with Emilia in a library. I think he tries to get her to take a break but she has work to do!
Looks like tamales are on the menu at Zaira and Tigre’s, Nico sends a picture and they and Gael enthuse.
Roberta overseeing the mine…Patricio hovering as he always does. Contemptible lackey.
Leo returns “home” and Nico is overjoyed to see him. Leo carries him up the stairs as they both laugh.
Emilia, Aleida, and Danilo talk. Disappointingly, Aleida has on an unattractive plaid outfit, hair back in a bun; very plain Janeish..
In the next scene, Aleida has redeemed herself. Spectacularly. She looks lovely with full makeup, her hair shiny and worn down over her shoulders, wearing a beautiful dress. She and Danilo look on anxiously as the doctor removes Emilia’s bandages. Danilo mentions “phoenix” and points to a table laden with makeup and a dark-haired shoulder length wig. We see various makeup being applied; Emilia adding contacts and finally the wig.
The door opens and Emilia emerges, clothed in a white, wide leg pantsuit. Danilo and Aleida look on in shock and awe. While her face has changed minimally, there seems to be little resemblance between the confident, self-assured woman before us and the Emilia of years ago. Emilia Sanchez is dead she declares; I am Victoria Alcazar!

Notes from the couch . . .
Page 1
1. Paula thanks Martina for everything she has given her especially her love as a mother. Martina tells her that from this day on, she wants them to live everything intensely together in whatever time she has left. She wants them to have fun and enjoy life. Paula agrees.
2. Cecilia drops Camilo off at Cass' and Ignacio's place. Cecilia seems reluctant at first but Cass assures her they will seriously take care of him.
3. Martina and Gabriel go for second opinion in Mexico City. The doctor, who is one of Gabriel's friends beside being the pre-eminent expert on Alzheimer's in the country, tells Martina that the diagnosis she was given was correct as well as the treatment.
4. Imelda warns Beatriz that she needs to stop the stupid things she is doing. Beatriz is in no mood to be insulted. Imelda tries to explain that she can't beat Martina at the foundation game considering how long Martina has been working at her foundation and all the support she has. Beatriz reminds Imelda how she would have joined her in earlier times to help her dethrone the Monarca. Imelda says things are just fine with Fernando and she will not have Beatriz messing things up for her. Beatriz answers back that she is either with her or against her.
5. Paula asks Martina how the doctor's visit went. Martina answers that her diagnosis and treatment were ruled accurate. Martina asks Paula what is wrong. Paula explains that after all of these years, she learned that Eva was responsible for the accident that killed her parents. Paula no longer has any trust in Eva. Martina tells Paula to not be so hard on people and to put herself in Ev's shoes. It isn't worth being resentful in life. Martina says she can take it from her!
5. The next morning, Paula is going to the music school while Rogelio is taking Jazz out. They will meet up later. Rogelio then goes to see Imelda asking if she would like him to take Ada along. Fidel is bringing his son José Omar. She thinks that is a good idea. She asks how things are going with him and Paula. Rogelio says they are going through hard times. Imelda offers to help them if she can.
6. Martina meets with Felipa, Melitón, Micaela, and Honorio in the kitchen. She asks if they have all been to the ocean. Only one hasn't: MIcaela
7. Martina visits with Marco. She asks how his hotel on wheels project is going. He tells her how his brothers have really helped him along with Ignacio and Honorio. Martina sees Marco as very tenacious. That, along with his youthful energy, will make him into a successful man. Martina wants something from him. She has decided that she would like to travel with Gabriel in one of his hotels on wheels. She also wants to invite Honorio and Micaela along because Micaela has never seen the ocean. Marco is all for it and says he could label the hotel on wheels with "La Monarca de Morelia." Martina urges him and Blanca to get married by the church before their baby is born so it can be baptized. Marco says whatever she wants.
8. Andrea and Luis tell Gabriel and Martina that are planning on getting married again. They will be talking to the priest to set a date. Martina is overjoyed that ONE of her sons is getting married by the church as they all should.
Page 2
9. Martina goes to see Eva. Eva doesn't know why she is there but offers to make her a cup of tea which Martina happily accepts. Eva thinks she knows why Martina is there. Eva says she can let her have it but she wants her to know that she did not tell Paula everything about the accident because she wanted to protect her. Martina makes it clear that she didn't come there to attack her. She is there to tell Eva to take care of Paula. She adds that to make errors is human and those errors help us to change. She tells Eva there nothing to be distressed about. Martina makes it clear that Eva cannot leave Paula alone. Eva thanks Martina and asks her if she can have a hug. Martina says sure and they hug.
10. Cecilia goes to see Cass. She wants them to start treating each other like family for the good of Camilo. Cass agrees and tells Cecilia that she can always count on her. Cecilia says she can count on her ,too.
11. Eva gives Martina her cup of tea but Eva doesn't remember asking for it and doesn't know who Eva is She asks if Eva is looking for something from the foundation. Eva excuses herself to the kitchen and calls Paula who thankfully answers her phone. Eva tells her how strangely Martina is acting and Paula tells her she is coming right over.
12. Fidel tells the board that the productivity of office personnel has dropped because of tardiness and absenteeism. .They all brainstorm on how to make the workplace more pleasant. Suggestions include a raffle at the end of every month, the last Friday afternoon of the month being game time, etc. Fernando says that Imelda could help them organize something.
13. Paula arrives at Eva's and Martina thinks that she is her mother. She is happy she came back for her. Eva looks shocked. Paula smells and cries at the same tine as she deals with Martina.
14. Martina tells Paula (still her mother) that Hipólito went on a trip again. Paula tells her that his job demands it of him. Martina suspects he is out of town for "other things." Martina looks at Eva and asks Paula if she knows that woman. Martina says if Eva is there for the foundation, she has to be sure they can assist her. The foundation has to help the "right" people. Paula suggests they go back home and determine Eva's situation there. Martina tells Paula not to say anything about Hipólito's trips in front of her sons. She doesn't want to give them a bad opinion of their father.
15. Paula and Martina arrive home. Martina is back to being Martina but is tired out. She goes to lie down. Gabriel decides to join her for a little nap.
TWO WEEKS LATER
16. Luis is with his brothers before the wedding. Martina comes by to give her son a blessing and expresses her hope that he will always be very happy. Andrea is with the female contingent. Imelda mentions her mother. Andrea says she told her she couldn't come this time. She is spending a few months in Asia.
17. Gabriel stops by to tell Andrea that he loves her and is very proud of her and her capacity for love. They agree she didn't get it from her mother who loves a lot but only herself. He blesses his daughter and gives her a hug.
18. Lucas takes videos before the wedding. We never see the wedding. Luis and Andrea have heir wedding night.
19. Martina looks at a man's watch.
Page 3
20.Rogelio tells Paula how happy he is that Luis could solve his love life. Paula says she never thought it would happen. Rogelio thinks it is always possible to forgive and start again. Paula asks if he is intending that for Luis or them. Rogelio says he is saying it for himself, her, Ceci and Eva. Paula is annoyed reminding him that she said she would talk to Eva and fix things.
21. Martina writes in her memory book that she was always suspicious that Hipólito was having affairs but she never expected that anything would come of them but then Ignacio arrived in Morelia with his mother set on revenge. Irma was full of hate and she filled her son with her hatred. It turns out that Ignacio didn't come for revenge but for a need to belong, meet his brothers and be considered as they are. When Irma died, he started to free himself of the hatred. He hurt them a lot but was ready to give his life for his brother. Martina says that is when he deserved her eternal affection and gratefulness.
22. Paula FINALLY goes to visit Eva. Eva swears to Paula if she would have had a choice, she would have died with her parents . She would have given her life so they could have survived but it didn't happen that way. So, she took care of Paula the best she could. Paula thinks that they cannot change the past. It is a useless exercise. It is better to continue on like they were before with the lovely family they have created and the relationships they have. They hug.
23. Rubén notices that Beatriz is still bothering people about her "foundation." She sees him with a gym bag and says if he is going to the club, he can go. Rubén tells her that selling his watch was a step too far for him. He is going but he is going for good. From now on, they will be communication only through there lawyers. The lawyer will bring her a divorce agreement. She insists that he cannot do that. They will be the laughing stock of Morelia. .He cannot stand living with her for one day more. He goes to leave and she clings to his arm but he finally escapes her grip and is out of there.
24. Gabriel tells Martina that he made the decision to pass on the shares that she gave him to administrate . Martina smiles . She expected nothing less from him. He has a great heart and is fair. He says the shares were equally divided between her four sons, Ignacio and Fidel. She wants him to take her to the company so she can check up on how things are going since Rogelio is no longer there. Gabriel warns her that old habits don't change.
25. Martina and Gabriel walk in on her sons playing foosball and employees sitting around relaxing . Fernando explains that these activities once a month are there to help employees relax and be motivated. They are emulating activities from Silicone Valley. Martina is not impressed. Fernando is sure it will all work out and has no plan to change things. They ask Gabriel to join them and much to Martina's surprise, he does.
26. Martina wants to see Ignacio.
27. Rogelio takes Lucas to his restaurant. Since Lucas is still on vacation, Rogelio would like him to spend time with him at the restaurant. Lucas seems open to him teaching him how to cook things. Lucas asks him if he misses his job at the company. Rogelio says not a all. He is happy now because he is doing what he likes best. Rogelio is also very proud of Lucas, who at his young age, is doing what he likes best: making music.
Page 4
28. Martina meets with Ignacio. Before she loses her memory , she wants to give him a watch that belonged to his father. His father never took it off. Ignacio asks why she giving it to him., She says she couldn't choose which one of her sons to give it to and knew they would not care if she gave it to him. It can be a keepsake to pass down to his son. She tells him to give his son everything thing his father couldn't give him. Martina knows she made a mistake saying Ignacio wasn't part of the family. She apologizes and acknowledges that he was a victim of everything. Ignacio starts to cry. Martina says maybe his mother and father couldn't say that to him, but Martina can and wants to. She is asking for his forgiveness on behalf of all of them. As Gabriel would say, better late than never. Ignacio says this is the most lovely gift he has ever received. Martina is sure he will be a good father because he is already a good father. Ignacio puts on the watch. He looks at his father's portrait on the wall. Martina thinks the watch looks very good on him and addresses him as "son." Ignacio asks her for a hug. Martina answers please do. They hug.
That was it for me tonight. Feel free add anytihg I left out.
I so enjoyed Martina taking care of business and making amends while she could
More mañana.
I can think of no better way to end the day than to read one of your incredible, heartfelt short stories Jarifa. As always, beautifully expressed.
“Ignacio says this is the most lovely gift he has ever received. Martina is sure he will be a good father because he is already a good father. Ignacio puts on the watch. He looks at his father's portrait on the wall. Martina thinks the watch looks very good on him and addresses him as "son." Ignacio asks her for a hug. Martina answers please do” was one of many moments that had my eyes misting tonight.
As Andrea was getting ready for the wedding, Blanca was luminous; no longer a shy young girl, she has morphed into a lovely young woman.
Lucas taking the video of “my family” was so touching. Recording their being together for posterity.
So much fun seeing the family around the foosball table!
Finally, Eva and Paula make up. Now it’s high time Paula and Rogelio did the same.
I hope Martina and Gabriel get to take the trip to see the ocean with Mica and Honorio!
Martina’s times of lucidity seem to be lessening.
Martina looked lovely in regal purple at Luis’ wedding. I loved her camel color sweater in the scene with Ignacio.
I will miss these characters and how vividly you brought them to life each night Jarifa!
Diana
TYPOS I noticed. LOL
Martina is sure he will be a good father because he is already a good BROTHER.
Paula SMILES and cries.
From now on THERE will be communication only through their lawyers.
ANYTHING I left out.
Leo seemed reluctant to agree at first. Roberta saying 'you can't have everything' made me laugh because she is the one wanting to take things from him. SoLeo agreed because Nico overheard them?
Ezequel is now in charge of security in this town,i.e., has Orlando's position.
Sebas told Addled Miriam is expecting his child. Miriam started the lie by saying the child wasn't addled's and then sh is like 'why did you say this' to Orlando. I mean, a what would she have responded to the question? Because Addled did ask whose the child was. Sebas shouldn't have put himself in danger for someone who still hasn't learnt her lesson I think. Miriam in general isn't very kind. But my problem with her is that I can't see her doing as much for seb as he does for her. I like things being reciprocated, wehther between friends, lovers, or even servants and employers.
Orlando and Jen are starting some kind of business together. Are they really stupid enough to think they can do any kind of business in this pueblo?
Leo was told Sara is in her room and didn't want to go anywhere. He doesn't go to her but instead takes Nico for an ice-cream. Nice. Is she supposed to be depressed? She told Jen 'you and Orlando do love each other'. I mean, who forced her to marry Leo? She is talking as if she were a victim because Jen apparently got lucky or something.
Why does Nico want to live with Leo so suddenly? These writers make no attempt to make it seem characters are acting in a believable way.
So did Leo stay to make sure Roberta was treating mineros well? Or did he go straight to Mexico?
I still dislike Leo. He just adopted Nico and that is supposed to give him back his galan status? He is such a passive character. Even Seb with Miriam is more interesting, which is saying something as I dislike her.
Does Nico have no problem with his abuela telling Leo she will 'give' him Nico in exchange for the mine? He was mad at Leo but what about roberta who he claimed was the only one who loved him?
Jarifa, your recap is wonderful as always, Thank you! I was having such a focus issue last night so I appreciate having your recap with my coffee this morning!
Martina and Ignacio were the highlight for me last night! They are such good scene partners and so rarely scene partners. It was also cute seeing Lucas' video.
While Fernando's game day Friday may be a good idea in theory, I couldn't help but think looking at it, that employees probably aren't as excited as they think to sit around and watch the execs play foosball on Friday afternoon! lol
I'm glad Paula reconciled with Eva. I'm glad they didn't show Luis and Andrea's wedding. Andrea has had enough weddings in this show.
With only 4 more episodes to go I wonder where we are going from here...
Thank you for the extra details waterlily!
I did think Ezequiel was tapped for Orlando's job but I didn't include that as I wasn't sure although he did seem shocked.
No love lost between Sara and Leo. Well, they made their bed so...
Nico is so confused. Poor kid, he needs his mother.
So does Emilia/Victoria return tonight??? :)
Diana
I havae to say it's odd having to watch someone else telling Paula she should put herself in Eva's shoes when Paula has spent this telenovela telling everyone to do pretty much this. In light of this her pieces of advice seem kind of hypocrytical. She is more realistic thie way perhaps, but I really dislike people who go telling others how they are being too harsh and then go and do this exact thing themselves. It's leading by example that counts. I have way too many women in my life who are like Paula and Martina. Paula even lied to Luis saying Norma made her who she is, which is nonsense. It's like she was determined to be a hurt victim even if it meant lying. So has she accepted the fact her mother didn't love her? Or will we leave her still dealing with it?
Martina can't resist controling things. She left her sons in charge but doesn't like how they do things. I'm glad they don't have to listen to her. I do wonder if I'm supposed to sympathise with Martina's unhappiness. She was unhappy in her marriage and so turned into a misrable person. But she could have been happy I imagine so it was a choice too. She could have also married Gabriel against her father's wishes. So when she was young, she didn't have the courage to do so. When she became older, she instead of gaining courage, she seemed to have learnt to act with open hostility or finding a way to interfere in secret. I find it rather tragic that it took this illness for her to want to start fixing things. I mean, she was already getting older but this didn't make her think "I should stop being resentful and awful'.However, this telenovela made me realise my own grandmother is like Martina:the same lack of empathy and consideration for other people's feelings, demand that others do what she says, but no prize even if they do. I think this is why I dislike Martina so much. My grandmother won't change the way Martina does, but neither of them strike me as very good people. Maybe they aren't evil, but there's something in both of them that makes mehesitant to say 'they are good people after all'.
Rogelio should leave Paula in peace. Is it really that hard for him? It's interesting that when he doesn't want to talk, he can. There were times when he simply refused to talk. The man is annoying me.
I find it interesting that Imelda tells her mum to leave Martina be not because it's the right thing to do, but because it affects her. I've never seen selfishness portrayed this way. I actually think I prefer this to Paula's constant role of a wise advisor.
Diana: Good Job on the recap of last night's episode. I noticed the 3 Amigos went to Barcelona, Spain & stayed there for 4 years. Nice place, but I strongly would've preferred going to Madrid though.
Waterlily: I'm curious to see when & if the 3 Amigos return to Mexico either tonight or later this week. Noticed the wig that Emilia/Victoria was wearing LOL. While Danilo & Adelia looked great.
Can somebody please give Karyme Lozano a spin-off Telenovela please ?
Thanks so much, Jarifa, this was a pleasure to watch and then read about.
The only disappointment was that I was hoping they’d find something fixable was causing Martina’s forgetfulness. But I guess it’s the Alzheimer’s for sure. I wonder how it will progress in the next four days. We’re seeing a much softer, warmer side of Martina.
I’m glad Paula is making up with everyone. Is she saving Rogelio for last! I still don’t like him. And I never thought he was guapo.
The office scene was funny. With all the bosses playing football. Yes, it was supposed to motivate the workers!
Did Ruben leave Beatrice and only take his little gym bag! She is one character that has gotten worse. Although Martina was so awful at the beginning maybe she made Beatrice look better than she is.
I find it hard to buy Imelda caring about Paula. I believe it’s true but feel like the writers didn’t make it believable.
Not too much to tie up here and 4 more episodes. Maybe the twins will be born! I have enjoyed the natural way a character is casually holding a baby while having a conversation with another character. How many babies were used in this program!
Liz
Gracias, Jarifa. We're closing in on the finale.
It sounds like Martina had obeyed her parents out of the feeling that she had no choice at the time. As far as we saw she was an only child so how likely was it that her parents would have disowned her if she had eloped with Gabriel then? Who would have inherited her father's business -- which she was learning about -- and personal fortune? Olympia had no children of her own (that Hipolito knew about) so there were no sobrinos.
Based on the marriage laws in Mexico her marriage might have been under the Napoleonic code that her assets were joined to Hipolito's rather than remaining her own separate property. She was never stupid and very aware of the risk of scandal had she tried for a divorce after the death(s) of her parents, whenever that was. We have no evidence that Hipolito was an abusive husband or father and she was unaware of his dangerous liaison with Irma until 20+ years after his death. However in her early 40s after Hipolito's death she could have met a decent man, but didn't. Her controlling nature was born out of her resentment over caving to an arranged marriage for appearances' sake.
It took Rogelio marrying Paula, his later anger at how Martina got rid of Erica ten years previously, and the existence of Lucas to start Martina off on the road to becoming as she is now. One can assume that Alzheimer's is her karmic punishment for her life-long controlling ways and inability to allow her sons their independent thoughts and actions. She had been directing her resentment of her parents at her sons.
If Paula's parents treated her with indifference it wasn't Paula's fault, as I have said previously. It could take a shrink to get her to understand this so she can see her own human worth in the context of the people who love her now. Speaking as someone whose mother was a narcissist I know how she feels.
Beatriz did an about-face by having been practical and sane in the beginning and now becoming as bad as Martina was back then. Her current dynamic with Imelda is probably how Martina would have been with daughters if she'd had any.
This entire series has been about emotional intelligence.
Will post later about Minas.
Thank you, everyone for stopping by the patio and your always interesting comments. Last night was a rather pleasant episode with lots of positives except for Martina's worsening Alzheimer's symptoms.
Diana, thank you. " Lucas taking the video of “my family” was so touching. Recording their being together for posterity." That was an amazingly heartfelt scene. In a way, it gave me the feeling of it being the last episode even though we have four more to go. As far as the last scene with Ignacio and Martina, it was perfection in terms of the acting as well as the dialogue.
Darcy, "While Fernando's game day Friday may be a good idea in theory, I couldn't help but think looking at it, that employees probably aren't as excited as they think to sit around and watch the execs play foosball on Friday afternoon! lol" Funny, but I was thinking the same thing. They will probably enter the monthly raffle, too.
Liz, "Did Ruben leave Beatrice and only take his little gym bag!" So funny but true!! I kept wondering if that was it. Had he been moving out little by little? Was he going to come back when she was out to empty out his stuff? Enquiring minds wanted to know!!!
"I have enjoyed the natural way a character is casually holding a baby while having a conversation with another character." Me, too.
Urban, I enjoyed your analysis of the characters. One of the positives of this novela has been the time (between 3 and 4 years?) they have given to character development.
Diana, thank you for your splendid recap! And thanks to Waterlily for the extra details!
I agree with everything I've seen so far. Leo doesn't have galán vibes. I'm not sure he can be redeemed. Except if, say, he sacrifices himself for Emi at the end or something. Although I'm not sure if even this is going to work... At least we'll be spared of watching them together. But, no, this is a telenovela and that's never going to happen anyway.
I really don't understand Sara; she first wanted to stay with Leo whatever the cost was, then she slept with Dan, got pregnant and tricked Leo into believing the baby is his, then said she'll raise it herself but then agreed to marry him. And now she's whining. I remember that in the episode before yesterday's Jen told Sara Roberta will kill her if she finds out about the baby lie and Sara looked like she kinda regretted saying it? I'm confused. And she didn't search for Dan when the manicomio was on fire? Why?
I also dislike Míriam. I believe she's responsible for a huge chunk of her problems, especially after Berta took her to the house. Getting back together with Addled for a short while ruined it for me. And poor Sebas is still defending her. He has such a good heart.
Tigre is so annoying... I'm starting to wish the storyline followed the original and he died in the mine explosion - I'm sorry but I don't understand where they're going with his character.
Since Diana volunteered to recap today's and tomorrow's episode, I can take Friday for sure. I'll try to put up something for Thursday - it's not fair Diana writes 3 recaps and I only 1.
dear Diana, thank you so much for giving us every moment. I will be unable to watch the telenovelas for awhile , but I want to keep up with them. I am so grateful for any recaps . Perhaps I will be able to find some visuals online .
How much time has passed ? Is surly Sara still pregnant?
Not happy that nasty Miriam has managed to capture Seb. I hope they don't get married .
So we are waiting for 2 babies. Susan
I saw the new Em . She looks the same to me as original Em except for shorter hair and makeup . This " transformation " ??? Reminds me of Mar returning as Leona...but that was more believable because 15 yEars had passed and she bleach ed her hair blonde. I will have too suspend my disbelief when people don't recognize her . Susan
Weirdo, thank you so much for your kind words.
Not much escapes Roberta. I wouldn't be surprised if she knew Sara slept with Danilo; I wonder if she suspects/knows the baby isn't Leo's? I don't believe she has said anything to that effect but yes, she should be very afraid.
I wish I knew exactly what Sara said to Danilo before he entered the manicomio. You're right Weirdo, she never seemed to say or show any concern for his well being during the fire. Perhaps she thought he escaped? I fear I'm giving her too much credit.
I also don't care for Miriam. Sebas can do SO much better, but he is guilty of having "a good heart", so...
Weirdo, if you can do Thursday fine, if not, we can always comment. Life is busy and things come up; recapping is volunteering and we pitch in and do what we can...:)
Thanks for your nice comment Steve...
Susan, I'm sorry you can't watch currently (hope everything is all right) but happy you are commenting. I believe Emilia and her friends were away for four years so if that is true, Sara's baby should be around 3. We'll have to see where we are when the three make their triumphant return.
Diana
Hi, Diana . Thanks for your concern. Visiting family and they don't have telenovela channels . Maybe I can find something on youtube.
I am anxious to see where the writers are taking us. Susan
Dear Jarifa, thank you very much for that wonderful recap.I wasn't able to watch , but I saw every scene in my mind's eye thanks to your beautiful, detailed recap. I won't be able to watch the tekenovelas for awhile , so I appreciate the excellent recaps.
Real life can be harsh , cruel, and unfair, so I like these positive, uplifting telenovela endings.
Martina making her rounds to set things right with each of her loved ones is heartwarming. Susan
Super job, Jarifa.
Martina is overjoyed that ONE of her sons is getting married by the church as they all should.
Maybe this is a hint that we'll get a group wedding in a church for el fin.
Fidel tells the board that the productivity of office personnel has dropped because of tardiness and absenteeism.
Aw shucks, office personnel were simply following the example of the execs, who didn't show up if they were having personal issues or did show up and start fights.
I wish Paula would ask Eva about her parents. Eva has never given any indication that they didn't love Paula. A husband and wife who go to bat for a sister-in-law/sister when she gets herself messed up with thugs doesn't sound like a couple who didn't love their kid. Honestly, women have a right not to be initially ecstatic at an unplanned pregnancy. That doesn't make them bad mothers.
Martina being more caring with others as Alzheimer's takes more away from her is touching.
Thanks, Susan. It has been a pleasure seeing Martina and Ignacio change for the better. Bummer you won’t see the last few epsiodes but you never know what you will find on You Tube. There are a lot of novela summaries.
Thanks, Niecie. "I wish Paula would ask Eva about her parents. Eva has never given any indication that they didn't love Paula." Exactly. People can say all kinds of things under extreme stress but that doesn't mean that they didn't love her. Paula's memories have been sketchy at best. Thanks for the laugh: " Aw shucks, office personnel were simply following the example of the execs, who didn't show up if they were having personal issues or did show up and start fights." You got it!
waterlily, it would be good if Rogelio did stop pestering Paula but I wonder how long it has gone on for. I always hate when they are so vague about time in novelas. If Paiula has been that upset for as long as it seems, I can see him getting impatient. I still think she should have gone to Ignacio's therapist.
Notes from the couch . . .
Page 1
GABRIEL HAS THE BEST DAY AND THE WORST DAY OF HIS LIFE
Everything is looking up for Gabriel in spite of Martina's progressing illness. The day before his birthday, Gabriel runs into Marco who looks very happy. Gabriel notices and Marco tells him about how his project is progressing. Gabriel congratulates him and says it shows that being tenacious and patient always pays off. Marco apologizes for having disrespected him. Now he wants to thank him for making his mother finally a happy woman. He is convinced that Gabriel loves her.
Little does Gabriel know that Martina is planning a big birthday dinner for him with the help of Imelda , Paula and Andrea. It hardly matters that a second later she cannot quite remember their names.
The day of his birthday, the whole household awakens him serenading him with Las Mañanitas" in his bedroom. He is pleasantly surprised and jokingly warns them they could give him a heart attack. Everyone wishes him happy birthday. Martina says he will get whatever he wants to eat. He wants enchiladas placeras (a specialty from Michoacán) for breakfast. Martina says they are ready. Gabriel wonders if he is really that predictable. Everyone laughs and Martina kisses him.
Gabriel touches base with Andrea. He is happy that she gave in to love. She asks how he feels. He says he feels well, fulfilled and happy to be with Martina. For the first time in his life, he feels like everything is perfect. That makes him feel a bit strange. He laughs. Andrea explains that we always suffer for what we don't have but once we have it, we suffer because we don't have it to think about. They laugh.
Martina and Gabriel play chess at a café. He is going to fulfill his wish and he checkmates her. Martina cannot believe it and insists that she let him win. He says he finally won and wants her to let him enjoy it. They laugh as they argue about who really won. She ends up telling him she was only kidding him.
They move on to a park bench where the chess controversy continues. A thief, with a knife, comes up to them and demands Martina's purse and Gabriel's wallet. He smartly reaches into his suit coat as if he is reaching for a gun. He asks the thief if he wants him to take his little friend out and leave him shot here in front of everyone. The thief has second thoughts and leaves. Martina asks if he really had a gun. He says no way but nobody was going to touch his Monarca. The moment becomes odd when she thanks "Hipólito" for protecting her. He is her hero. Gabriel takes it all in stride and says he will always protect her.
Suddenly, Martina is back and remembers somebody wanted to take her purse. He says she was gone. She is upset. Gabriel makes her feel better by telling her that when he looks in the mirror, he sees a happy man who is living with the only woman he ever loved.
Martina and Gabriel arrive home happy. She writes in her memory book how Gabriel reacted smartly and with a level of bravery she never imagined that he had. She could live without her dreams but not with her Gabriel.
Rogelio asks Gabriel how Martina is doing. Gabriel says it is evident that her illness is progressing. Also, It becomes more pronounced when she is stressed. He asks how things are going with Paula. Rogelio says so so. He explains they both had crises in their lives at the same time and they both made mistakes dealing with them. Gabriel tells him that these crises are a part of all relationships but when there is love, it overcomes all of it. Rogelio regrets that the "falling in love" feeling doesn't last. Gabriel agrees it only lasts a few short years but that it ends up leading you to true love. He is sure that he and Paula, through their love for each other, will sort themselves out sooner or later. Rogelio thanks and hugs him.
Page 2
Gabriel tells Martina that he has never had so many people at a birthday celebration for him. Martina says he can count on it happening again.
When everyone is at the celebration dinner, Gabriel tells them to stop calling him Ud. he knows he is old but they all are his family. Would they just call him tú and forget about the usted? Martina makes sure they all take a photo together.
Martina toasts to the best family ever and to Gabriel. Nothing will ever stop them from being together and happy. Gabriel toasts to Martina and the family. There is a birthday cake. Gabriel tells Martina he loves her. He pauses for a second. She asks if he is okay. He tells her he is better than ever. She kisses him and he decides to lie down for awhile. Her eyes follow him with a worried look.
Paula follows him into the house and asks if he is okay. He is and is happy to hear that her problems with Rogelio are being resolved. She smiles and agrees. She thanks him for everything he has taught her about being a couple. She thanks him for loving Martina like he does. He says real love lasts and that is true for everyone. She tells him that she found in him and Martina, the paternal and maternal figures that she has always needed. She thanks him. They hug.
Gabriel goes to his bedroom and walks out onto balcony and smiles down at his birthday celebration.
He goes inside and looks at himself in the mirror and thinks of things that he and Martina said to each other. He puts his hands on his hips and acknowledges that he has achieved everything he always wanted with the woman he loves. He is happy. He sighs and sits on the bed. Suddenly he is moving through an empty house and towards the family still seated outside . . .
Martina feels upset and decides to go inside and check on Gabriel. He is lying on the bed. It looks like he is taking a nap. She decides to wake up the sleeping beauty but she can't. She thinks he is pretending to be dead like that time he played that joke on her. She soon discovers it is no joke. He is dead. She calls out his name over and over and begs him not to leave her.
EVERYTHING ELSE
IGNACIO tells MARTINA that the watch is very significant for him. He asks her to forgive him and some day his mother for what they did. He was driven by anger and frustration. He damaged himself and everyone around him. Martina smiles and tells him he is a good man and will be a great father. He thanks her. She leans forward and caresses his face. Later, he will tell Cass that talking to Martina is allowing him close a cycle of his life that hurt him a lot. He feels liberated and he agrees that now he can be certain that he is part of a family.
CASS reminds IGNACIO that Romina is coming over for a home visit. She is worried that the house is not in tip-top shape. Ignacio tells her to relax. They will want to see that Romina feels relaxed and comfortable. Romina arrives with the nun and a social worker. When Romina is asked if she would like to spend time with Cass and Ignacio, Romina readily says yes! She isn't sure that she wants to go to visit Igancio's family at La Villa Morelia. The nun knows that is where the Monarca lives. She and her foundation have helped them so much. Ignacio says he is the Monarca's stepson. The nun blesses Romina before they leave. Cass and Ignacio play games and give Romina a tour of the house. Romina has a good time but she is worried that they will prefer Camilo over her and that Camilo won't like her. Ignacio assures her that neither of those things will happen. Ignacio makes a connection with her as she tells him how unconnected she feels. He says he experienced that because his own father wasn't around much when he was a kid. Martina has a great time but when given the chance to go to Gabriel's birthday party, she prefers to go home to the orphanage with the nun.
FERNANDO proposes to IMELDA again and she accepts.
Page 3
ROGELIO tells FIDEL that he and PAULA are reconciled but she still is not operating at 100%. She still has a problem that he bought the restaurant without consulting her and named it after her father's business. Rogelio says he tried to give her the name as a gift and it fell flat. He is trying to realize his life goals and she is depressed. He has ended up feeling very selfish. Fidel thinks personal relationship are very complicated. You can take an action that you think will be good and it ends destroying everything. Fidel also tells Rogelio he bought Eva a house and she has no idea. Rogelio tells him to let him know how it goes. ROGELIO tells PAULA that he is happy her situation with EVA is resolved but he sees that she is still sad. She says her sadness will not disappear that quickly. He promises not to pressure her. He makes it clear that he only wants to take care of and protect her. He is sorry. She smiles and says she is grateful for that. She realizes that they have different ways of processing fears and pain. She is only asking that he trust her and respect her space. He makes a point of standing away from her giving her space. She laughs and goes over and hugs him.
FIDEL takes EVA out to eat. He has had the waitress hide the new house key in a bread roll. Eva bites into it and doesn't get what it is. All she knows is that it is disgusting. She wants to complain to the manager about a key being in her food. Fidel stops her and explains it belongs to their new house. Eva is overjoyed. She starts packing that very afternoon and tells Fidel that he better help her if they want to go to Gabriel's party.
That is all got tonight. Please feel free to add anything I left out.
TYPO
Martina could NOT live without her Gabriel.
COMMENTS
Well, we had about 1 3/4 episodes of relatively happy content. I knew the drama had to start again but I wasn't imagining Gabriel dying until I heard him joke about them giving him a heart attack. That made me go Hmmmm. Anyway, I think they did a great job showing Gabriel's spirit moving on.
More mañana.
I have to say upfront that I was lost throughout this. With the time jump, recast characters and continuous flashing between scenes in different countries, I am able to provide you with very little. So, with apologies…
In Spain, Emilia regally emerges from behind a closed door, white pantsuit, shorter hair and impeccable makeup. She says Emilia is dead, Victoria is alive! Aleida gasps; Danilo looks thunderstruck.
A world away, Leo and Sara are at work when Nico calls him, Sara seeming annoyed, consequently reaming out a flustered employee.
Danilo and Aleida encourage Emilia/Victoria as she frets about Nico, her family…She has to be calm and patient. I sense Roberta Castro is in for it.
Leo and Sara are bickering, she sneers about Emilia and Tigre. To his credit, Leo does look angry and upset.
Roberta is wearing the same style wig as she did previously, but this one is grey. She is lambasting her assistant, calling him an imbecile. Glad to see her nasty vindictiveness is still intact.
Gael is now being played by an older actor (I already miss Lukas Urkijo). In Ireland, Marijo has also morphed into another older actress. She texts Leo, she misses him and her tears flow.
Aleida and Danilo are on the computer and they mention something about Uzbekistan and some type of mining operation there. I gather this is pivotal to the invention of Victoria, so if someone can please explain, it would be greatly appreciated.
Leo plays airplane trying to feed his daughter (did not get the name). Sara calls him and he yells for Inez. “Bye papi” she calls and he comes back and hugs and kisses her neck.
Roberta needs gold quickly.
Gigi is at a rally. For Addled. A large check has been donated to her foundation. Elsewhere, Sebas, Miriam and what must be her and Addled’s son (again, I have no name) are unpacking some food. She thanks him and smiles.
Emilia arrives in Uzbekistan and we see a man (resembling Rene Casados) greeting her. It appears to be a mining company.
A new Nico gets a call from his beloved grandmother. She later appears, asking Leo to come home, he is the only one who can fix things. Sara stares frigidly. Roberta brings up Emilia and Ignacio causing Sara to throw her napkin down. Sara stares at Leo…
Jenny has a present for Orlando. They kiss passionately, they must be doing well. A new watch. He thanks her but doesn’t seem thrilled. She asks what it is. I think he might have said he wanted a baby or did I get that entirely wrong?? It appears they have started a restaurant.
Emilia is ready to walk the mines and she thinks back to her father and cries. The owner (?) asks about her father and she tries to be as evasive as possible.
Zaira cries in church and is comforted by the priest.
Nico gives Roberto a picture he drew; I think she asks him to convince his father to return.
Emilia and Aleida look at pictures of her family.
Tigre has a flashback. In a bar, he hears the miners at the next table complain that Roberta is making disastrous decisions that is bringing about the mine’s decline and the miners are being hurt.
Sara and Leo yet again, Sara complaining Leo wants to return for Emilia’s sake.
Addled and Fidel are waiting for Roberta who struts in late. She sniffs she is working on solving the mine’s problems. Her assistant runs in saying there is a grave problem at the mine.
Nico asks his father to return home.
Jenny talks to Gigi about children.
Danilo is reviewing the website of a company that extracts materials from mines (think it is who Emilia visited). I think Emilia wants to be the answer to Roberta’s prayers.
Sara yells at her daughter to eat then turns her ire on Nico. Leo kisses his daughter. (who actually looks like Danilo). Sara threatens divorce.
Roberta is shown Emilia’s website and I think she is going to take the bait.
Anything anyone can add or correct would be greatly appreciated, especially Sara and Miriam’s kids’ names.
No show Thursday night: this is being preempted.
Diana
Jarifa, you did masterful justice to tonight’s sad and poignant episode. Your ingenious summary perfectly illuminated Gabriel’s circle of life, his journey toward love and his peaceful death.
“For the first time in his life, he feels like everything is perfect”. And indeed it was.
As sad as his passing was, the way he passed was a blessing. Everyone he loved and who loved him was with him at his final moments. For Gabriel loved much and was loved in return. A joyous birthday celebration, slights and hurts put aside, everyone coming together for this joyous occasion. And he, “a happy man who is living with the only woman he ever loved” is balm for the soul.
There is no greater blessing than the grace of a happy death. It is a prayer I have said from childhood to this very day. Gabriel had his family with him and he left this world for the next in sweet slumber, feeling no pain. Although his family will be devastated, knowing he did not suffer will be of tremendous comfort. Everyone there will have no cause to berate themselves as their presence, their sharing his final hours was their true goodbye.
I enjoyed Eva biting into the bread and finding the key to her and Fidel’s new home…
Ignacio and Cass were so excited about Romina!
I only wish Martina’s ending would be as peaceful as Gabriel’s but fear that is not to be.
There is still time for more drama but I certainly hope this is the last shock the writers have in store for us.
Felipa hasn’t given birth yet so hopefully there will be some things to cheer us up before this ends.
Diana
Thank you Jarifa, you paint a beautiful picture of Gabriel's sad death. I haven't watched yet, and now I am not sure I want to. I doubt the episode itself paints a more beautiful picture. And it will make me sadder...
I expected some drama put that last thing I could have imagined was Gabriel's death!!! I agree with Diana that in some senses it is nice to die on a happy peaceful note for sure, on the other hand there's the feeling of why does this have to happen just when everyone is happy and peaceful...
Eva biting into the bread and finding a key sounds funny!
Diana, I think you got pretty much everything that happened.
I think that mine in Uzbekistan is supposed to be the largest in the world and Emilia wanted to learn more about mining I think. She mentioned a lot of mining terms but I have no idea what they mean. Now I realise I'm not entirely sure if she went there for learning or because her working there would help convince Roberta she was the best person to help her.
I think there was also a flashback where Ignacio talked to tigre and thanked him for for treating him like a capable person and not like a useless man the way someone else does. Maybe he meant his father. Or were these two not Ignacio and tigre?
When zaira went to complain to God she felt abandoned and the priest was like 'count your blessings', I remember thinking it's all very well for him to talk about how it makes him sad she is angry with God when shehas financial troubles and her husband is depressed. I prefer a priest saying we all sometimes get angry at God and that he himself had experienced this after his mother's death. Why are these telenovela priests so damn preechy? We are human, not blind followers with no emotions of our own.
It appears Gael wants to work at roberta's mine without telling his father. Wasn't it Gael who asked his friend about a school he is attending. The guy said it was cheap and that with money from the mines was enough to pay for it. I can already see how furious tigre will get. But the boy wants to study and that job he has doesn't seem to earn him much. I know how frustrated I'll be with tigre because I bet he'll offer no solution and just will be mad Gael works at the mine. What is a guy like him supposed to do in this town with no other prospects than mining?
Sara says Leo promised to make her happy when she wants him to go to some ceremony where he'd be given an award. She is honestly an example of someone who is determined to be miserable. Then when he says they are going to MX, she says she wants a divorce.
Roberta is trying to poison Nico against his stepsister. Nico said Leo doesn't let him play games and Roberta is like "I imagine he is far more patient with your sister.' Why can't she just stop it? Maybe this was to get him to want to stay with her this time, but it felt more like something she does regularly. But Nico doesn't seem to resent Leo. I wonder how he treats Romina (I think that's her name because they kept saying Romi).
I think Nico said his 'hermana' brought him to Leo's office. I'm really confused by this. It feels as if I have to relearn everything.
Addled didn't do anything to Seb and M for some reason. But he threatened to. I was sure he'd do something in his usual style,i.e., a beating 3 against 1.
Danilo helped Aleida to invest her money successfully and they are now millionaires. Emilia went to university in Spain and apparently somehow became well-known while studying because that owner of the mine said her fame preceeds her.
This episode seemed like an idealised version of 'things I'll tell mty family before I die'. I wonder how many people manage this.
When someone dies in their sleep the way Gabriel does, is this some kind of heart attack? Beccause I was carrying atreadmill up the stairs and suddenly thought my heart might just stop. I was like 'is this what a heart attack feels like'. I somehow thought they aren't horribly painful for some reason. Or did his heart just stop?
Rogelio should have listened to an interview to one of those relationship experts before getting married. They say exactly this: the falling in love feeling is not forever. It sounded almost naive coming from him. But maybe he has not come to this stage of 'we are in a crisis' with anyone else. It would be good if things were always easy, wouldn't it. I wish it too.
I still think it's way too soon for Ignacio to adopt when he has only had a few proper'I'm looking after my son' days. It somehow feels rushed. They marry so they could adopt, a girl comes to visit and that's it. It was nice he could 'get her', though. There are cases where parents don't understand their own kids so it's a nice change. I think it's especially nice when you compare it to Martina who was too resentful to really care what her kids wanted. Now it's going to be even worse for her. My godmother's mum even forgot how to use a spoon and asked how to eat a soup.
Jarifa, thank you for a wonderful tribute to family love . I wasn't able to watch , but you gave me clear images of everything that happened.
I am truly not surprised that Gabriel passed peacefully after he and Mariana got married and the families were brought together, growth was experienced , and forgiveness was given. He seemed frail to me. Passing peacefully is a gift. Soulmates are eventually separated by death unless they pass together. The person left behind grieves as the price paid for loving and being loved unconditionally . The loved one lives on in the hearts of those who loved him or her . I collect quotes , and one came to mind after reading your excellent recap " God's finger touched him, and he slept." Gabriel had a gentle passing after living a long life and surrounded by loved ones . He didnt have to endure a lingering illness or have to witness Martina slipping farther and farther away from him. Not everyone is so lucky. Susan
Oh waterlily, I cannot thank you enough for all you clarified! You are a lifesaver. Truly.
"I'm not entirely sure if she went there for learning or because her working there would help convince Roberta she was the best person to help her" was a great question. Perhaps a smattering of both?
I didn't understand Gael was interested in mining so thank you for explaining that.
"Danilo helped Aleida to invest her money successfully and they are now millionaires. Emilia went to university in Spain and apparently somehow became well-known while studying because that owner of the mine said her fame preceeds her" was gold.
Thank you, thank you!
Diana
Diana, thank you. "There is no greater blessing than the grace of a happy death. It is a prayer I have said from childhood to this very day. Gabriel had his family with him and he left this world for the next in sweet slumber, feeling no pain." Diana you hit it on the head. We all should be so lucky. "There is still time for more drama but I certainly hope this is the last shock the writers have in store for us." Me, too, but I doubt it with three episodes left.
Darcy, this was a beautifully written and executed episode. It is well worth the watch. Dalilah Polanco as Eva delivered again with her comedic talent as she found the key. I always enjoy her performances.
waterlily, "When someone dies in their sleep the way Gabriel does, is this some kind of heart attack?" I had two uncles and an aunt who went to lie down and never got up. In their cases it was heart attacks. Here, who knows? Maybe they will tell us. "Rogelio should have listened to an interview to one of those relationship experts before getting married. They say exactly this: the falling in love feeling is not forever. It sounded almost naive coming from him. " It did but it sounds like none of his relationships lasted long enough to get to that point. Could we consider this another PSA? ; )
Susan, thank you. I am glad that you enjoyed the recap. I thought that Gabriel's story deserved a narration of its own. "God's finger touched him, and he slept." Is a real keeper. Thanks for sharing it. I cannot wait to see how this all shakes out.
"My godmother's mum even forgot how to use a spoon and asked how to eat a soup" was heartbreaking waterlily although a painful reality for so many...
Jarifa, I laughingly say I've tried not to ask God for too much so I'm hoping my peaceful death will be a reality. I do believe those who suffer terribly are paying their penance on earth and that they will have a fast track to heaven (provided they have lived a relatively good life).
Darcy, I hope you are able to watch this when you can. I think Gabriel's celebration of life was so uplifting.
Susan, I'm tearing up at "God's finger touched him and he slept". So lovely.
This novela has given so much to think about and ponder. It is reflective of life for so many. I will always remember this TN, all thanks to you Jarifa for your memorable, amazing recaps.
Diana
Thanks, Jarifa, you did a beautiful job with retelling Gabriel’s death. I missed the heart attack reference in the morning but when he was talking about his life being so great now I was pretty sure he would be leaving us. I know it’s not part of the character he played, but he always looked frail to me. Martina has a much healthier look.
Ignacio has really changed. I’m glad he feels part of the family and I’m guessing they’ll never find out he was behind all their troubles. He and Cass will be good parents.
I enjoy Eva, she brings fun to the show. But I agree, she needs to share with Paula more about her parents. Or Paula could finish reading the diary!
Usually you renew your vows after 50 years! Have Fernando and Imelda even been married 5 years! And Martina saying all her sons should be married in the church. I thought Fernando and Rogelio had the double wedding in the church. Maybe they never finished the weddings because that nutcase interrupted the wedding.
No show Thursday means only 2 more episodes! One for the funeral, one for the birth of the twins. I hope Beatrice gets what she deserves in one of the episodes!
Liz
Diana , yes, these novelas are studies in the human condition
Man...woman...birth...death...infinity.
We have lost friends here at caray. We have shared our challenges.
Susan
Diana, you are always so kind. I am glad I could help. I have to say I was rather baffled by yesterday's episode because Emilia refused to leave and then they said that either they all stay or they all leave. And here she is in Spain and has been there for four years.
When Gael seemed to be thinking about working in themine, I immediately thought he'd end up stuck in there.
I also forgot to mentioned those miners who were in danger were intoxicated. Roberta was told they had some insurance paymentsdue so she said to take them to another hospital. I think they are likely to die there and Roberta just said it's a risky job so... Everyone keeps telling her she needs someone like tigre but she just is determined to go right off the tracks with her train. I somehow thought she was a bit more inteligent. She like those dictators who are told by their generals it's a bad idea to start this war but she of course knows better.
Gracias, Jarifa. You delivered a beautiful recap of Gabriel's last days. As the epi unfolded and Gabriel's death seemed imminent, I had such a sense of dread. Kudos to the grace you brought to this moving tribute to Gabriel and his quiet strength.
Now Martina's sons will need to step up for their mom.
When Fernando and Imelda got married, it was about him competing with whatever Rogelio was doing and her glomming onto the Monarca's family. Good that they start afresh with a proposal out of love.
Liz, thanks. " . . . but when he was talking about his life being so great now I was pretty sure he would be leaving us. I know it’s not part of the character he played, but he always looked frail to me." Excellent points! He had a pale and grey look about him. Whoever did the makeup did a good job. BTW, ETERNAMENTE will be shown on Thursday. Only MINAS will be pre-empted.
Niecie, thanks. Gabriel was one of the few characters that I actually liked for the whole novela. "Now Martina's sons will need to step up for their mom." Yes, they will but I don't think they have any idea of what they are in for. I wonder if Martina will make it to the end of the novela.
Diana, you are too kind! Recapping this one has been a lot of fun because it turned out to be something totally unexpected and in a good way. : )
Waterlily, so there were intoxicated miners in the mine, that was the emergency. I couldn't for the life of me figuure out what was wrong. So, I gather they are out now but might die anyway. Thank you for this and all you provided!
Perhaps tonight the parent(s) will call the newly introduced kids, born after the last epi, by their names!!
Geez, what is going to happen next!!??
Diana
Wow...
Martina and Gabriel could not have been married more than two months. Martina is getting hit hard. I think this will destroy her.
Her family will start thinking that they will never be home free of problems because they all come just as they get over the previous ones.
Reminder, ETERNAMENTE is on tomorrow night. Only MINAS is pre-empted.
Notes from the couch . . .
Yay! A character actually said the title of the novela tonight. I love it!
Page 1
1. Rogelio notices that his mother has not come back to the party and asks Melitón to go and see if she and Gabriel need anything.
2. Melitón knocks on the door and asks for permission to enter. When nobody answers, he opens the door and finds Martina silent on the bed next to Gabriel. After Gabriel does not answer him, he touches Gabriel, realizes he is dead and runs back to the party.
3. Melitón is hysterical as he gets all of the brothers and their wives to come back to the bedroom with him.
4. Rogelio checks for Gabriel's pulse and there is none. Andrea, in tears, goes to her father and hugs him. Martina can only lie next to Gabriel repeating his name over and over. Eva removes the kids and soon there is an ambulance waiting outside of the house. Rogelio unsuccessfully tries to remove Martina from the bed and Andrea cries as the paramedics take her father's body away. Soon, Martina is left all alone on the bed staring.
5. After the body is taken away, Paula sits with Andrea. Rogelio looks at Paula and thinks about what Gabriel told him about love. Paula thinks about what Gabriel told her about love. Paula gets up and kisses Rogelio. He kisses her back.
6. Everyone in the family tells Andrea they are there for her. She tells them how much her father loved all of them. She says Luis is taking care of the funeral arrangements.
7. We see the funeral procession at the cemetery led by Martina on Paula's arm. Everyone is dressed in white as they escort Gabriel to his resting place.
8. Later at home, Martina is with the family silent and staring. She goes up to her bedroom to be alone where she hallucinates Gabriel sitting with her. She doesn't understand why he didn't come with them. It was a very hard funeral. He knows but they should leave souls go in peace. She wants to talk about all of their plans for the future. He amiably agrees. She tells him to pick the place. He tells her to play the piano for him. He wants to hear her.
Page 2
9. Vanessa (Andrea's mother who couldn't attend her wedding because she was off in Asia) tells her daughter that she could never do funerals. Today was way too much for her. Her father didn't deserve a send off like that. It was so unlike who Gabriel was. He was into partying and enjoying music. Andrea reminds her that her father once said that the way people mourned was up to them. She asks her mother not to do anything to upset her family's plans. Vanessa is taken aback by "her" family. Andrea accuses her of only thinking about herself as usual. Vanessa is aggravated that Andrea kept her on the periphery. She didn't even allow her to attend mass. She thinks that all of that religious stuff is ridiculous like Gabriel did. Andrea reminds her that Martina's family is very religious.
10. Vanessa hears a piano being played and has to see who is playing. It is Martina playing and singing to Gabriel. Vanessa tells her that Gabriel would have loved it as his farewell. Martina asks what farewell is she talking about. Gabriel is right here and asked her to play. Vanesa is confused but says that Gabriel will live in both of their hearts. Martina insists Gabriel is right there. Doesn't she see him? Paula and Rogelio appear as Martina is getting agitated. She tells them about that woman telling her that Gabriel is gone. She wants him back. Vanessa asks whose funeral was it then. Martina says it was her aunt's. She tells Vanessa to get out as Paula and Rogelio take her to her room. Luis explains to Vanessa that Martina has Alzheimer's. Vanessa laughs and asks seriously? He says yes. Vanessa can't deal and leaves.
11. Rogelio brings food for Paula as she watches over Martina who is asleep in her room. He wants to talk to her. She says it isn't a good time. Martina wakes up and asks for her father.
12. Ignacio tells Cass that Gabriel's death hit him like a double death since it brought back everything he felt for his mother. Cass wishes she would have met him earlier so she could have helped him through all that. If anyone would have told him that he would be sad about Gabriel's death, he would not have believed them. Cass reminds him that he was responsible for them being to spend their last days together. He never thought of that. The twists and turns of life are incredible. While some are saying goodbye, they are anxiously and lovingly awaiting the arrival of a child: Romina. He is ready to have a family that will stick together in thick and thin. Cass is right there with him and assures him that she will not leave him. They kiss.
13. Rogelio, Marco, Blanca and Imelda discuss Gabriel. Marco admits it took a long time for him to trust and accept him but he never saw his mother as happy as she was with him. He can understand his mother not wanting to accept his death. He thinks he would feel the same way if something were to happen to a person he loved. He kisses Blanca. Imelda adds that his death really makes you think about your partner. They could be gone in the blink of an eye. You have to enjoy the present because that is all you have. Fernando informs them that Gabriel lived enjoying every second and had a generous heart. Rogelio adds that he died at peace and peacefully. The fact taht he lived his life so intensely is a great example that he wants to follow. Everyone seems to agree.
Page 3
14. Lucas watches a video of his mother. She tells him to look at the moon and she will be listening to him. It leaves him crying. Rogelio comes in to console him. Lucas tells him that he misses hihemother and his grandpa. He asks why everyone who cares abut him has to die. Rogelio reminds him that his mother and grandpa are right there in his heart. Lucas knows that but it isn't the same. Rogelio assures him that he will be there for him. Rogelio tells him that when he met him there were things about him that reminded him his grandfather and his father. That is good way to stay close. We should feel grateful for having shared our lives with them. Lucas agrees but adds that they can't hug us and nobody could hug him like his mother. Rogelio agrees but tells him that is how life is. Lucas is afraid of being alone. Rogelio has Lucas take a deep breath and says they will sleep together tonight. Tomorrow he can spend the the day with Regina. Lucas will decide tomorrow if he wants to go.
15. Rogelio tells Micaela and company to try and keep their spirits up. Rogelio brings his mother breakfast in her room. Martina is in the bathroom and says she will see him downstairs. She emerges from the bathroom and asks Gabriel if he will be eating with her. He shakes his head and is gone. She looks surprised.
16. Cass tells Ignacio they got a call to come to the orphanage. It is urgent.
17. Everyone comes to the breakfast table. Martina comes downstairs and apologizes for not eating with them. She and Gabriel were eating up in her room. Now they are going for a walk. Paula goes with her.
18. Lucas wonders what is going on with his grandma. Rogelio explains that with her illness, she forgets things. They can't tell her the truth. They have to love her and treat her with care.
19. Paula and Jazz sit outside with Martina. Martina has mistaken Jazz for Ada. Paula asks Martina if she wants something. Martina says to love each other for all eternity: ETERNAMENTE AMANDONOS!!!!!
20.. Fernando tells Rogelio that the doctor said that they cannot leave Martina unattended for a second and to call him if she has another episode.
21. Paula comes in with Martina who wants to know why everyone is still at the house. Why is Fernando not at the office? if he cannot do the job, Rogelio will. She wonders why they are all so sad. Is it because of her father's funeral?
Page 4
22. Suddenly Martina remembers her father on his death bed saying that she betrayed him and the only way he would ever forgive her is if she married Hipólito. She agreed to marry him. Her father then proclaimed that he could die in peace. She told him he couldn't die. He had to give her away at the altar.
23. Martina recognizes Rogelio and realizes he couldn't be at her father's funeral because he hadn't been born yet. She then asks where Gabriel is. Why is nobody answering her? Paula says he passed away. Martina screams NO! They all try to console her. Rogelio says he died in peace. She is unable to accept it. Why didn't he say goodbye to her? Fernando goes to call the doctor. Martina keeps screaming for Gabriel as Rogelio holds her.
24. Cass and Ignacio are at the orphanage and talking to the nun. She explains that when a child returns from a home visit, they are given a psychological exam. Romina's turned out so very much better than anyone expected. So, their adoption application has been approved. They are now a family! She congratulates an overjoyed Cass and elated Ignacio.
25. The doctor does a house call and concludes, considering what Martina has been through, that she is doing okay. She cannot confront Gabriel's death and is confusing things with the past. He gave her something to sedate her but they need to watch her very carefully. She needs calm and cannot be contradicted but at the same time her altered view of reality cannot be supported. It is best that only one person be in her room with her at a time. She needs time to rest.
26. Micaela sits with Martina and cries as she reads her book. Rogelio tells Paula to rest. She insists on going to sit with his mother. He thanks her.
27. At Gabriels's home, Vanessa is in tears and tells Andrea that although she might not believe it, she did the best she could. Andrea smiles and says she knows. Vanessa recognizes that there are some women who are not born to be mothers and she is one of them but Andrea had the best father in the whole wide world. Crying, Andrea agrees. Vanessa decides now it is her turn and tells Andrea that she would like to have a closer relationship with her. Andrea nods and they hug.
28. Martina talks to Paula. She doesn't want to live another day but she keeps waking up. She doesn't want to go on living without Gabriel there. She cannot breathe. HIs absence hurts her, even in her bones. She asks if Paula would be able to go on without Rogelio. Paula thinks not but she would fight on for her children. Martina says her sons are all married and she knows that Paula will take care of her family. Gabriel is waiting for her. She asks Paula to please help her take her life. She wants to die. Paula, in tears, is shocked.
Please feel free to add whatever I skipped.
Jarifa, thank you for every detail of this sad episode.
So, Gabriel's ex makes an appearance . Why did the writers think we needed to see her again?
Susan
I followed as best I could but as usual there were things that eluded me. I have noted my questions in the recap, if anyone can kindly supply the answers, it would be greatly appreciated!
I believe Roberta has contacted “Victoria’s” mine to Danilo and Emilia’s delight. Aleida arrives and looks suitably impressed.
Back at Leo’s not so happy home, he and Sara argue about the proposed move back to San Lorenzo. Sara is in full shriek mode, getting right in Leo’s face. She threatens and even after he calmly asks her to sit down, she is not having it and stalks out.
Addled enters Ezequiel’s office. Addled looks at pictures of Miriam and his son; he then makes a furious phone call to Miriam and leaves a message.
Tigre receives visitors, Jacinto, looking for his rent, and Gael. Tigre is distressed and teary eyed, wanting to be alone. Gael looks over at Emilia’s picture and speaks softly to her, telling her of the problems.
Sebas is serenading Miriam although he looks wistful (could he be thinking of Emilia?) Miriam asks the same question and he admits he IS thinking of Emilia and her family. He holds her hand, “te quiero” he tells her but it is evident she is not his great love. Addled calls her and she ignores it. When Gael calls, Sebas picks up. Things are bad he tells Sebas, his parents are not doing well and are in severe financial straits. Gael asks him a favor for his father. Zaira comes home with several bags of clothes.
Nico is hugging a picture he drew of Emilia and kisses the paper murmuring “te amo”. He talks to Leo about missing his mother; Leo affirms his mother loved him, he does too. Nico calls him papa and the two hug.
Emilia has a nightmare. She imagines she is home but her family (and Leo) rejects her!! They circle her taunting her, saying she isn’t Nico’s mother. She yells “papa” then “Nico”. She wakes up very upset and sits at her dressing table, looking at herself in the mirror telling herself she is dead.
At Zaira and Tigre’s formerly happy home, visitors are welcomed. They give Zaira money who is reluctant to take it but does crossing herself.
Patricio and Roberta argue. She calls Sara to check in on what is going on with their proposed return “home”. Sara deflects and is rather contemptuous. Ahhh but then Roberta lays her winning hand on the table. She threatens Sara saying she will reveal her affair with Danilo; scornfully telling her she has pictures of her in a hotel with Danilo!!! Sara is impactada!
Addled is giving some ridiculous speech about family as Sebas watches from afar, turning away looking disgusted.
There are several scenes with Emilia, Danilo and Aleida regarding communication regarding the mine but I can’t relate exactly what happened. Emilia does cry over pictures of Nico on her phone and Danilo and Aleida try and cheer her up. It ends up they are returning to Mexico.
Diana
Sara visits Leo at work. What is it he asks civilly. Sara lies through her teeth that she wants to do what is right for the family and return. Are you sure he asks? She lies quite adeptly and he is drawn in. Thank you he says. They are going to be one happy family she asserts. They bump foreheads and she kisses him. Yuck.
Zaira and Tigre are visited by Jacinto. Just in the nick of time, who should appear but angel Sebas, cash in hand!! Tigre hands it over and Jacinto leaves. Sebas has certainly saved them from eviction.
Jenny has a pregnancy test in her hand, looks at it and is in tears. It is negative. She flashes back to being at the hospital, obviously in pain asking for help but is turned down. Something is missing, can anyone fill in what happened? Was she told she will have a hard time conceiving, did she have a miscarriage previously, or was it something else??
A woman comes up behind Orlando and puts her hands over his eyes. He thinks it’s Jenny but obviously isn’t. We later find out she is Flor but if there is any backstory on her, I don’t know what it is.
I love you much mommy Nico asserts, holding the picture he drew of her as Leo comes in. Nico has done a very detailed picture of the mine. He shows Leo the airplane where Emilia had written the message to him (were there two? I know Roberta tore one up).
Gael shows up at the mine, ready to work. “Do you have experience” he is asked. The miners seem to accept him, He is introduced to the head bad miner who mocks him as Tigre’s son.
Orlando and Flor are at the restaurant, he tells her he is very happy. She dances saucily and pulls him in. Jenny arrives at that moment and asks who she is. “Flor” Orlando answers. Jenny is disdainful (much to Orlando’s chagrin) but Flor doesn’t seem the least bit deterred and kisses him on the cheek. After she leaves, Orlando asks Jenny what is wrong. She is dismissive of Flor but obviously upset at not being pregnant, brushes him off and leaves. He looks confused.
It’s nighttime at the mines, it appears Gael is being put in his place as to is in charge and warned he needs to give proper “respect” to his superiors.
Sebas is back and Gael arrives, greeting him warmly.
Leo the prodigal son (and family) return home. Joaquina is so happy to see them and immediately takes the kids to the kitchen. Sara, looking as though she’d rather be anywhere else pulls up the rear. Sara gets a text that I couldn’t read.
Our favorite trio pulls up to a house with a for sale sign. Emilia tells her friends it was her mother’s house! I think she wants to buy it.
Emilia’s phone rings and it is Roberta! Apparently she is not used to waiting and decided she was going to take matters into her own hands…

Jarifa,
Your incomparable recap reflected tonight’s sad events with empathy and compassion. Your overview of kindness and caring was echoed in every well-chosen word.
When a loved one dies, the sadness is immediate, the pain acute. But after the initial shock wears off, the truth, the finality sets in. The loss, the loneliness, the sense of abandonment can be unbearable.
“she doesn't want to live another day but she keeps waking up. She doesn't want to go on living without Gabriel there. She cannot breathe. HIs absence hurts her, even in her bones…Gabriel is waiting for her. She asks Paula to please help her take her life. She wants to die. Paula, in tears, is shocked” was powerful and disturbing but raw and real. Martina is drowning emotionally; confused and in pain, powerless to stem the tide, losing a piece of herself every day. And now, she has lost her anchor, her heart. Are there words that would give her the desire to fight with every fiber of her being to survive?
I felt for Lucas, clutching the video of his mother; no wonder he is questioning the fairness of life.
I did like the dignified procession in the cemetery as Gabriel was laid to rest. Everyone dressed in white was lovely.
Martina’s eyes are now lifeless, they have lost any luster. Her conversations with Gabriel seemed all too real. If her retreats into the inner recesses of her mind and imagination can give her any comfort, then she should go there as often as possible.
Susan, I had to laugh as it took me a bit of time to realize who exactly Gabriel’s ex was. I’d hoped we’d seen the end of her. Unfortunately…
Martina’s pink and chocolate striped pjs were my fashion favorite.
Diana
I was very disturbed by Martina's question to Paula because Paula has young kids. In general I'm not a fan of 'I can't live without him' sentiment' and disliked Paula saying no. I know it's a necessity in telenovelas but still. and how about if her daughter died? This just puts her kids sort of in a place of 'I'm miserable without your father but have no choice but to live because you need me.' I've heardwomen who supposedly have had long marriages say they'd pick their husbands over their kids so maybe that's a usual way to look at things. I can get Martina thinking she can't go on due to grief but that question...
Why is Paula the main caregiver? At least it appears this way. If she is unwell, she really should go rest instead of insisting she'll stay. She could fall asleep and Martina would wonder off if she weren't asleep herself.
How is one supposed to follow the doctors instructions? If they go along with whatever Martina says, isn't thatjust supporting her altered view of reality? I mean, it's not like they keep treating her like a little girl when she thinksone of them is her father, they just follow her lead and act accordingly.
Gracias, Jarifa. This was one of the saddest novela episodes to date. A perfect recap.
I also was shocked along with Paula. Assisted suicide is illegal in Mexico and most of the world. The Catholic church is firmly against it. This is an unreasonable demand because of their history. How can she expect Paula to do this with a clear conscience? She would never be able to take this to her own grave.
What would any of us do now in her place?
As for Vanessa, I was appalled that anyone thought to invite her to the funeral. She was as vile as ever. Gabriel must have been three sheets to the wind on their wedding day.
Thanks, Diana. You holding the front as always.
I was confused by that scene with Jen at the hospital so today I kept rewinding and trying to catch a word the doctor was saying. I think what happened there was that Jen went to have an abortion and felt awful afterwards. The doctor was like 'you came for an abortion, so what did you expect.' Apparently they did what she asked but thought it was a huge favour considering how little they paid. Jen had a fever and was in pain but the doctor, who must be friends with that crazy one from the manicomio as they both are horrible, told them to get out unless they have more money.
When Danilo asked Emilia what he should respond to Roberta's request, she told him to send an automatic response. Then the guy from the gloria immediately responded and Emilia told Danilo he will answer him tomorrow. Roberta got angry at this and said later, when the guy came to tell her the dead miners families are upset by what happened, that he should look for a different company. Later the trio got a message the gloria needs their urgent help. Emilia told them to say they will help but a consultation is 10000 dollars. She said they can meet tomorrow if they accept the price.
I wonder what Leo would have done if Sara hadn't changed her mind about going. He doesn't deserve this convenient escape. Roberta also threatened Sara she will tell Leo it was Sara who hired the journalist who tried to slander Emilia.
It's nearly episode 50 and Leo hasn't changed. Sebas refuses to leave Miriam and Leo can't seem to find a way to get divorced and and maybe find a way to get the custody of his daughter. I imagine it would be hard but he is doing absolutely nothing whereas Emilia has actually managed to achieve a lot. There's way too big a contrast betwwen Leo and emilia with Seb just like there was at the start. Is Leo forever going to be stuck in this 'I married out of obligation' state and in the constant fear Sara will take away'his' daughter? Get a good lawyer, man.
It breaks my heart that Nico still plays that yo te a-mo game.
And the woman who came to see Orlando is the one his father hired to make Orlando 'normal'. She taught him to dance. She apparently worked for some time at the precinct. Unless she was lying and I misunderstood. Now she works in a clothes shop.
Diana and waterlily, my heroes ! Thank you both so much for the recap. I saw some photos online , so I know what people look like.
Well, let's see what happens when the three friends (who look pretty much the same to me) return to town.
Sara is despicable. As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for. She got trophy Leo and a love less marriage.
Sebas, the constant protector and supporter. I would love to have been told more about his family and background. What makes a person that goodhearted?
Thanks once again, Jarifa. You handled a sad episode perfectly. And it was one of the saddest episodes I’ve seen. The aftermath of dealing with a loss was retold perfectly by you.
I was shocked at Martina’s request to Paula. I hope they get her the care she needs. She needs to be watched 24/7. Loss is hard and you may feel you want to die, but to actually take it to the next step is scary.
Gabriel’s ex made things a bit awkward. What did he ever see in her?
I feel really bad for Lucas, he’s had too much loss in his life. And what ever happened to his aunt.? I thought she would return for occasional visits.
Thanks for the info that this is on tonight. Two more episodes doesn’t feel like enough to end this on a happy note.
Liz
This novela keeps taking me places that I never expected. Having had experience with family members with dementia, Diana Bracho's performance has been disturbingly accurate. I didn't find her request shocking considering her situation and state mind. I did feel sorry for Paula., though.
Susan, Vanessa's appearance was a surprise to me, too. They seem to want to tie up all loose ends? It must have been hard on Andrea growing up without her but it probably was easier than growing up with her.
Diana, thank you. "Martina’s eyes are now lifeless, they have lost any luster. Her conversations with Gabriel seemed all too real. If her retreats into the inner recesses of her mind and imagination can give her any comfort, then she should go there as often as possible." i could not agree with you more. What does she have left? At his point, what does i tmatter to anyone else?
waterlily, you asked the question that I asked myself. "Why is Paula the main caregiver?" Friendship? Tradition? I would dare say because she is female. I know she and Martina forged this new close relationship but it did annoy me when she stepped into the role of caregiver and not Rogelio and everyone seemed to accept it. As for the doctor's convoluted message, all I could conclude was that if the house were on fire and Martina disagreed, they could just carry her out rather than arguing about whether there was a fire or not. LOL
Urban, thanks. this was a hard episode. "What would any of us do now in her place?" Nothing but alert the others. It's illegal. Also, I doubt that Martina is still there 100% even in her seemingly lucid moments. "Gabriel must have been three sheets to the wind on their wedding day." Thanks for the laugh about Vanessa. They did say he did enjoy a party/good time, so he could have been.
As usual waterlily, you came to the rescue and explained so much I failed to understand. I am so very appreciative of your always witty comments. "I wonder what Leo would have done if Sara hadn't changed her mind about going. He doesn't deserve this convenient escape" is exactly right.
So Jenny did have an abortion. I actually did wonder...so horrible they wouldn't treat her. Was that recently or back when she was with Mau??
I never would have remembered Flor as the woman whom Fidel hired...now it all makes sense. Well, likely not to poor Jenny...
Susan, looks like tomorrow night is the big meet with Roberta. Emilia looks the same only with better clothes and hair so it will be interesting to see how thhis goes.
Diana
"This novela keeps taking me places that I never expected. Having had experience with family members with dementia, Diana Bracho's performance has been disturbingly accurate. I didn't find her request shocking considering her situation and state mind" was beautifully stated Jarifa.
The answer? As you noted Liz, she needs someone with her "24/7". As family is obviously not/cannot be with her every second (the party as an example), they need to hire round the clock care. That way, they can be with her most of time while ensuring she is never alone...
I'm sure Paula will react to Martina kindly and understandingly but will not do what she is asking. What a tragic situation.
Diana
My parents and maternal aunt were clear minded to the end , and I was with all three of them when they passed away. My dad suffered with painful neuralgia in his legs for two years and couldnt walk....hard for a strong, active man to deal with .At one point towards the end of his life, he said to me " This is enough." All I could think of to say to him was, " I know , Daddy, but you have to talk to God." It is never easy coping with the loss of loved ones , and each loss brings back all the other loved ones you have lost.
My mother in law was a very sweet, good natured person , but she did have a bit of confusion the last few years of her life .
Robert Browning wrote this to Elizabeth Barrett Browning , the love of his life :
" Grow old along with me
The best is yet to be
The last of life
For which the first was made ." Susan
Diana, I do hope I get the abortion info right because the word I think was used was curettage. I had to check what it means and it apparently can be used after miscarriage but it also used to be a form of abortion. Abortion maybe makes more sense, especially if that hospital they went too wasn't exactly a 'decent place'. One can turn into a doctor after watching these shows.
waterlily, thank you for taking the time to explain the situation which certainly didn't seem to be straightforward.
Yes, the hospital "wasn't exactly a decent place" was it? An excellent descriptive. Ack.
I do hope Jenny is able to conceive as she seems to desperately want a child.
Diana
Oh Susan, you have such strength.
I am sure your calming, soothing and loving presence was of immeasurable comfort to your parents and aunt during their last moments.
We should all be so fortunate to have those that mean the most to us with us at the end.
Diana
Diana, I never think of myself as strong . My mother used to tell me " That which does not kill you makes you strong." I think it is something my grandmother who lived with us when I was little used to say.
Waterlily, after a miscarriage the doctors perform a d and c. I think that is a dialation and cutterage, but that also might be the term for an abortion. I can't remember much about Jenny's story because I don't like her .
Waterlily: I found it quite disturbing that Sara is mistreating her own daughter & even Nico. Leonardo, I hope you put your foot down & tell her to STOP it.
Diana: Excellent job on the recap of last night's episode. When did Roberta's hair turn gray so quickly ? Is she plotting a campaign for the Presidency of Mexico again ?
Paula is the most emotionally mature of Martina's nueras. She is also married to #1 son. Double whammy for her becoming the next matriarch.
If I were Paula I would tell the doctor ASAP about this "request." Ditto their priest. Martina might freak out but this is illegal and wouldn't that hurt her image after her death?
Martina is probably no longer thinking about her image anymore. She just wants to stop the painful heartbreak she is feeling .
Susan
