Diana and Waterlily, you guys sure make an amazing team! Thank you both SO much!
ITA that Míriam isn't a victim. I hate this ridiculous "form" of "girlpower" they want to promote. No, girl power isn't trying to show someone who has clearly done something wrong in an innocent light. Míriam is to blame as well, alongside with Addled of course.
I loved the discussion!
I can do tonight's recap.
Good to see your post Weirdo!
Yup, no pity for Miriam; she brought everything on herself.
So glad you can do tonight's recap....
Diana
Here it s más or menos
FLASHBACK: We see Leandro telling his assistant/thug (?) that he reported Genaro to the police because it was his duty as a lawyer.
Leandro tells his mother Amanda that he reported Genaro to the prosecutor and adds that he did it for her own good. She agrees with his decision but feels so sorry for Yaneli. She feels so sorry that later in the episode she appears at Yaneli's door.
The prosecutor tells Vicky (she is a lawyer at the center and Manuela's friend) they have identified Genaro as the figure on the video the day that Dulce went missing. He is going to put out an arrest warrant for him. He agrees that they will be looking at DNA evidence when they bring him. Manuela and Paloma get a birthday cake for Yaneli. They assure her they will be there for her. Somebody is watching their comings and goings from the street.
Yaneli ends up having to give the police a statement. She feels terrible that her brother could be in trouble because of her. Genaro comes in to talk to the police while she is there. The prosecutor says they are taking a DNA sample from him to see if his blood matches the blood they found in Dulce's apartment. As far as he is concerned, Genaro is responsible for Dulce's disappearance. Vicky asks about a motive. He says it could be an issue between him and Dulce or he could be providing girls for trafficking. Vicky asks to see his statement. The prosecutor tells her that is not possible because Genaro has hired his own lawyer.
Yaneli texts her brother Víctor in the USA to contact her. .
Pablo chases the boy he seems to know. He catches up and holds him by his collar against a wall. He recognizes him as the boy who earlier took him to the "love nest" and that had him beat up and robbed by the gang. If he had something to tell him he would have paid him for the info. The boy asks to see the photo of Damián, He admits he knows him but hasn't seen him for over three years. He was at a rehab center that is now a women's center. They chatted two or three times. Pablo asks if his son was there for drugs. The boy says they all were there for that. He adds that his son took up with a boy at the center called El Muñeca who is a real solid drug user who liked to get those around him hooked. The boy wants money for the info. Pablo says not before he finds El Muñeca.
Paloma still has her hands full with her parents. The administration of the apartment building is not pleased with all of the items that they are storing in the hallway and demands they be moved. Although Paloma has found them jobs on line, her parents are not much interested . She has found nothing for herself. Franco calls again and after begging her to come back and admitting that he needs her, she agrees to work for him as long as she is an outside contractor. Her father has found out that Walter is back in Miami. They are happy that he will not be stealing their little girl.
Amanda's grandson shows her how Everardo switched the pills to make her feel guilty. After confronting Everardo with the fact that she knows the truth, Amanda says she will be around to see that he is being taken care of but she will not be taking care of him herself anymore. Eventually, Everardo admits to what he did. He blames it on feeling so miserable from his treatment. We find out that Everardo has a 50/50 chance of his treatment working. Everardo also tells Leandro that the way to control women is to make them feel guilty. Amanda and Tamara are now supporting each other.
Julieta apologizes to Manuela and mother and daughter have a very healthy chat. I wonder how long this will last.
Pedro tells Carmina ONE MORE TIME that they will not be a couple ever again. He wants to focus on Palbito's health. She calls Nancy to find out all she can about Manuela.
Jarifa, thank you for the excellent recap . This show seems to be a study in toxic familial relationships . Family members are suoposed to love and support each other, but here we do not see that. I find Paloma's storyline upsetting . How can parents do that to their child ? Awful people. Susan
Jarifa, a fascinating short story, perfectly crafted.
I had to miss a bit of this so appreciate your filling in important scenes I didn't see.
"Everardo also tells Leandro that the way to control women is to make them feel guilty". Just when you think he can't get more loathsome, he says this...A 50/50 chance of survival? No need to guess which side I'm on.
I saw Leandro in the first (?) scene reporting Genaro but didn't understand what he was doing. I have no doubt (no spoiler) that he will soon intercede between Julieta and Manuela ruining the small progress they've made in their relationship. I've no doubt I'm going to be feeling the same way about him as I do Everardo.
I really felt for Yaneli! She is so distraught, I was happy to see the cake delivered. A tiny bit of happiness for our youngest...I am surprised she has a(nother) brother.
Love Pablo's proactive stance, taking matters into his own hands. So glad he's divorcing Carmina. Sadly, she will use Pablito to make it as difficult as she can for him.
I wish Paloma could have found another job where she would be more valued. Her parents are despicable.
Jarifa, thank you, thank you!
Diana
Thanks so much, Jarifa, I envy anyone that can understand Spanish well enough to know what’s going on!
I was pleased when Everado admitted he switched the pills, but didn’t understand what he said to Leandro until I just read it! So his plan was to make Amanda feel guilty. I bet he’s being doing that throughout their marriage.
Somehow it was hard to believe the nice mother daughter scene between the brat and her mom. Maybe Julieta feels she is getting her way. I’m sure when Manuela refuses her demands she’ll be the unlovable girl we know.
Carmina should end up with Leandro. She ruined the relationship between Pedro and his son, is trying to ruin his chances of finding his son and now investigating Manuela. I wouldn’t be surprised if she teams up with Leandro. They both use children to manipulate others.
I hope we get to meet the older brother. I’m hoping he’s a big shot lawyer who can help Género and Yaneli. I’m wondering what Amanda will say. I think Leandro has convinced her that Género is guilty.
Poor Paloma, she doesn’t deserve those awful parents.
Liz
Fighting, negotiating and -finally- realising - Part 1/2
Emilia and Roberta:
Victoria asks Leo if he would still want to be with her if Emi was around. No he wouldn't, so he has to leave her alone.
Later, she thinks back to the kiss and tells herself that she can't love him. Leo also remembers it and laughs, asking himself what's up with him.
Roberta tells Sara about the photos and warns her to be careful not to lose Leo. She made the same mistake with Ignacio. And I'm pretty sure Rob asked her who's the man in the photograph since the other one died. Sara didn't tell her of course.
In a semi-important scene, Roberta goes to Victoria's house and asks her to stop being around Leo for political reasons. Vic asks her how old is Leo, thirteen? She adds she doesn't understand and Roberta says that it's important to appear as though Leo and Sara are the ideal couple for politics, in which the mines are involved. Vic agrees to keep away from him only if she gets involved in the mine politics business. Rob quickly says this isn't only her decision, to which Vic replies "I'll wait" and smiles. After Rob leaves, Emi fills Aleida in, who, btw, was telling Dan to keep away from Sara, since she betrayed Em and that they have to stay together in these times.
Patricio tells Roberta about Victoria wanting to feed the miners and having organised things with Leo. Roberta, who's known for her calm and cool under pressure, has her usual reaction: screams at him that she won't allow it. The gal has to learn that she ain't the center of the universe.
We also got a scene with Sebas, informing Emi about her plans for the food corner for the miners not proceeding because of Roberta. Emi doesn't accept that and says she'll set up the food business with Orlando whether Rob wants to or not. She has to tell Leo about it because they planned it together. We get cute BFF moments and then Sebas unfortunately leaves. Emi bumps into Tigre, who tells her she and Sebas make a great couple and starts listing all his good qualities. He adds that Seb is like a son to him and that he loved Emilia.
Rob sent Patricio to threaten a random miner to give them information in exchange for money. His family was mentioned. He agreed at last.
In the last scene of the episode, Vic tells Leo about the food business and Roberta. Leo, who had already had some fights with Sara, tells her that she denied having a lover. Vic asks him if he believes her. He appears to and does a huge mistake: says something along the lines of "Sara is like a mother to Nico". Whoops. Vic says, not exactly calmly, that Sara is definitely not a mother to Nico, she doesn't love him like her own and that his only mother was Em. She leaves, as Leo thinks out loud, "Why doesn't she tell me she's her?", referring to Victoria and Emilia!
Fighting, negotiating and -finally- realising - Part 2/2
The Quintanas (and a bit of Leo)
We get cringe worthy, vomit inducing scenes with Sara trying to pretend to be a good person and a loving stepmother to Nico. She even goes with Leo to drop him to school. Leo wants to talk with her and instead of going home to talk like normal people, they go to a restaurant. Okay...
Sara apologises for asking for a divorce and being, well, herself. Okay, I might have paraphrased a bit, but you get the point. Leo asks her about the mysterious calls and the flowers and Sara admits they were from a man! She whines about feeling lonely and stuff and Leo asks her if she cheated on him, mentioning that someone told him. Sara asks him if he has proof, to which he replies no and says he doesn't because there isn't any. She hasn't cheated on him. Of course she's curious about the person who told him. He thinks back to Victoria telling him and while I was watching , I was about to give him a nice Greek μούντζα, but thankfully he doesn't tell her it was Vic. Sara has the nerve to whine about Leo believing this stuff about her! He apologises and says she's right!
Míriam thanks Jenny for the opportunity she gave her and her son. Jenny mumbles that Míriam's son is her brother. She sends someone a text, IIRC she wrote "I want to see it" or something? If anyone can fill in I'd be grateful. There was a glitch and my video skipped some parts of that scene.
This isn't Míriam's only encounter with the Quintanas though; in a rather creepy but interesting scene, Addled goes to the restaurant and sees her. She tells him Jenny gave her a job because she's a good person, unlike others. Addled hits her where it hurts; Sebastián. He tells her Sebastián will never love her like he loved Emilia and she knows it. The dude is legit trying to get her back, after all this, by saying he'll give her a house and some other material things. She starts crying and he kisses her, she pulls him away. He stuffs some cash in her shirt and leaves her, a crying mess. I was expecting her to shove the cash in his face, but no.
Gigí has divided the house in two parts with a yellow "police line do not cross" kind of thing. Sara enters and Addled tells her to get on his side. IIRC they talk about Leo.
There was a scene with Leo and Orlando near the end. I think they talked about Victoria and Leo fancying her.
Weirdo: AWESOME job on the recap of Friday night's episode. Crazy Whacky Blonde Sara is still annoying.
Was the original on Telemundo this chaotic?
Jenny is also annoying too.
Weirdo, a riveting recap, infused with your always wry humor. Loved the title.
"Sara apologises for asking for a divorce and being, well, herself" was perfect! This was so well written and put together, making everything crystal clear.
I am especially grateful because if truth be told, I could not have recapped this episode. I understood only a few words here and there, not nearly enough to understand any of the conversations. A non-Spanish speaking recapper's nightmare. So, thank you.
"She leaves, as Leo thinks out loud, "Why doesn't she tell me she's her?", referring to Victoria and Emilia!!So Leo does know the truth! He isn't as obtuse as I feared.
"We get cute BFF moments and then Sebas unfortunately leaves" and when he did, my heart sank. For there is always a bit of hope that the writers might just do the right thing and let the obvious galan prevail.
"Roberta, who's known for her calm and cool under pressure, has her usual reaction: screams at him that she won't allow it" described her imperious tirade masterfully.
Lately, Sara seems to have boxed herself into a corner yet she manages to sleaze out somehow. She's managed to placate Roberta (for the moment), throw her lot in with Addled (betraying her mother), and lie through her teeth to Leo. Danilo remains a wild card. Her luck won't hold out forever.
Karma (aka Addled) has now bitten Miriam. Badly. I did feel sorry for her but when you play with fire, you get burned.
I cannot add any thoughts on what the text was all about...
Marvelous Weirdo!
Diana
Weirdo, thank you , thank you , for every detail .I still cannot watch , but I will look for some photos . You provided me with a great visual in my mind's eye. I would love if you translated that Greek word !!
People continue to make many mistakes as this story unfolds. It will be interesting to see what anvils these writers have forged for the wicked .
Gee,I am confused . Has Leo suspected that Vic is actually Em all along ?
I have an uneasy feeling that I will not be happy with the way the writers pair up people at the end . uff Susan
Thanks so much, weirdo.
I never thought I'd agree with tigre and Addled on something. But tigre is right about Sebas being 'worth gold' and Addled, as horrible as he is, is right that Sebas doesn't love Miriam. I have to wonder if Miriam would have thought/it would have meant Jen was a bad person if she hadn't given her father's mistress a job in her own restaurant. Miriam's comment, even if it wasn't meant like this, came across to me as if she actually believed Jen/people in general had to help her. There was a scene with Miriam and Jen, where Miriam said 'one day, when you have your own children, you'll understand me'. I was like*blink* *blink* Understand what, exactly? That there are some 'justified' motives for getting involved with a married man?Well, for that Jen would need to look for a married guy and I doubt she wants to try this experience just to get Miriam's struggles...That you'd go and ask your lover's daughter for a job in order to support your child because you have no money for food? That doesn't fit either. What the hell was that supposed to mean then? Jen's response started with 'I'm not sure...' and I qwwas absolutely convinced she'd say 'I'm not sure I'll ever be able to understand why you did what you did.' But nope, she just seems fixated on not being able to get pregnant. Addled actually told Miriam he 'will make Sebas disappear' if Miriam doesn't dump him.' Another thing I can't watch is Miriam always adopting that irritating tone when she sees Jen and says how she will do her best and so on. It sounds so pathetic that I almost expect her to start bowing every time she enters into a room whereJen is.
Inthose scenes with Emilia and Seb I just want to stuff my fingers into my ears and sing lalala because I know this relationship isn't going anywhere. Are modern writers into torture or something? Wouldn't stories depicting unhealthy relationships fit better then? I mean, then they'd satisfy this weird desire they seem to have of twisting the knife, but it would at least make sense.
I agree with you, dear Vic/Emi. You shouldn't love Leo and I have no bloody idea why you do. Women in this town are on something because they are so weirdly obsessed with men who either don't love them or are plain awful/useless. At least Miriam and Sara picked men who have something to recommend them. Though Sara loves herself more than anyone. The way she talked about her mother to Addled made me want to slap her. It struck me she is a lot like Addled:it's all about her and everyone else can perish. She outright admitted she is using the whole 'I love 'our' kids' angle to make Leo feel guilty for bringing up the divorce.
Thanks everyone!
Before I forget (again), Waterlily, I'm glad you're feeling better now!
Steve, I don't know if I would describe the original as chaotic, but IMO it was better than Minas. I like Minas, but only if I pretend it's not the La Patrona remake ;)
Diana, thank you for your kind words! "He isn't as obtuse as I feared" Ha, I was also shocked when I heard him say that! A nice plot twist. "Sara seems to have boxed herself into a corner yet she manages to sleaze out somehow" described the situation perfectly. But as you wisely noted "her luck won't hold out forever". ITA about Míriam. She should have known better. The fact that she didn't throw the cash at Addled's face really got me thinking that she's not ready to face him. She's hiding behind Sebas, her protector. I find this storyline problematic.
Susan, haha, I'm not sure if there's an exact translation for μούντζα, since it's a Greek and Cypriot thing, so I'll try to describe it. It's basically a not-so-polite hand gesture with one or two palms with your fingers stretched, kind of like when you're waving but more open. It's usually to show frustration with someone who did or said something stupid. This was so greatly used during driving that our government forbade it on the roads LOL.
"It will be interesting to see what anvils these writers have forged for the wicked ." Yes, that will be very interesting, especially since They're probably planning on redeeming Sara. We'll see.
"I have an uneasy feeling that I will not be happy with the way the writers pair up people at the end" Me too... Dan with Sara, Míriam with Sebas and Emi with Leo? I'm losing hope for Uni...
Thanks, Weirdo, that was excellent! So it sounds like Leo either realizes or suspects that Victoria is Emilia. I missed the thinking out load of Leo. Well, I’m sure I heard it but didn’t get it.
I agree with Tigre, Victoria and Sebas do make a great couple. If only they could end up together!
Sara being a loving mother to Nico was cringeworthy. She couldn’t really keep up the pretense of loving him when he wasn’t looking at her.
I don’t like Miriam. I hope Sebas wakes up and realizes what she is. I thought Addled said something about making Sebastian disappear, but not sure. I wonder if Miriam would go with him to save Sebastian.
Leo still has too much faith in Sara and his mother. He needs to open his eyes and see them both for what they are.
Liz
Waterlily, our comments crossed.
I laughed out loud reading your comment. My favourite parts were "I almost expect her to start bowing every time she enters into a room whereJen is.", "Are modern writers into torture or something?", "Women in this town are on something because they are so weirdly obsessed with men who either don't love them or are plain awful/useless" Perfection!
Thanks for explaining the Míriam - Jen scene. Wtf.
"I have to wonder if Miriam would have thought/it would have meant Jen was a bad person if she hadn't given her father's mistress a job in her own restaurant" was another perfect line in your comment. I really dislike Míriam. She keeps messing up but expects everyone to treat her like she's their long lost sister or something.
ITA about Sara being selfish.
I have no idea how Míriam and Sara can get redeemed nicely.
Hey, Liz, more comment crossing!
Yes, I'm also rooting for Emi-Seb! He has been the only man in this show who's been devoted to her from the get go.
I despise the Míriam storyline. I don't know why I hate it that much, but I do.
ITA about Leo. I hope he starts waking up soon because a coward, braincell-lacking galán isn't my cup of tea.
Weirdo, thanks for the explanation of that Greek word . I have had students from Greece, but I have never seen that gesture . Maybe it is similar to a rude American hand gesture involving the middle finger. . . ha...Sometimes an innocent gesture in one culture is rude in another culture . Susan
Put me on the list of those who cannot stand Miriam . Seeing someone like Miriam try to snare a sweet , good soul like Sebas is frustrating . It sometimes happens in real life ,too. However, I just do not think these writers are going to think outside the box and try something new and put the second banana with the leading lady . Maybe the stars have it in their contracts that they will end up in the finale as the heroes with a HEA. Come on , writers, try something new and different . Susan
Almost forgot to ask this. When Roberto asked who the guy in the photo with Sara was, mentioning the other one had died, that would mean Roberta knew Danio had died in the fire. It would also mean she knew Danilo. But we never did find out why he was in the clinic. I just remember a couple brought him in. So now I’m wondering if he was sent in by Roberta to spy on Emilia.
Liz
I've learned so much from everyone's comments today.
"Addled actually told Miriam he 'will make Sebas disappear' if Miriam doesn't dump him" was truly frightening Waterlily. "I agree with you, dear Vic/Emi. You shouldn't love Leo and I have no bloody idea why you do. Women in this town are on something because they are so weirdly obsessed with men who either don't love them or are plain awful/useless"l; words of wisdom that shoud be lived by.
Weirdo, "I hope he (Leo) starts waking up soon because a coward, braincell-lacking galán isn't my cup of tea had me laughing out loud. HA! And yes, Miriam is hiding behind Sebas! One of the main reasons I think he will end up with Miriam (sadly) is that he loves Andres. He is such a wonderful, loving role model, proof positive you don't need to "father" a son to love one.
Susan, I had no idea Leo knows that Vic is Emilia until I read it here. Good question about how long he's known. I have a feeling it might have just dawned on him? But I'm not sure.
Liz, Sara turns my stomach when she is with Nico. She is not nurturing or loving to either of her children; her one recent scene with Romina struck me as false as well.
Diana
Liz, our comments crossed.
Yes, we still don't know why Danilo was in the manicomio. I thought he was trying to hide but it might have been he was working/spying for someone. I am trying to remember, have Danilo and Roberta been at any recent meetings together??
As no one recognized a barely changed Emilia, it wouldn't be surprising for them not to recognize him. :)
Diana
Hmmm...I wonder if the writers are ever going to explain to us why Dan was at the manicomia , or if that storyline has faded into the wind .Maybe we are keeping track of the plot more carefully than the writers . just sayin..... Susan
It was a long weekend of holiday baking and I have finally recovered!
Diana, thanks. I loved "Just when you think he can't get more loathsome, he says this..." That sure describes Everardo but also Paloma's parents. I do not trust the supposedly "new and improved" Julieta. Just wait until Manuela has to deny one of her requests. As for Yaneli, I am hoping that Amanda is there to apologize and giver her her job back. Yaneli was raised to be honest and has ended up having to shoot her own self in the foot. Her isolation at that young age bothers me the most.
Liz, thanks. I am glad that you find the recaps useful. "Carmina should end up with Leandro." I would LOVE to see that. It seems that, until now, neither has done anything illegal but the immorality of their actions is horrific. "I hope we get to meet the older brother. I’m hoping he’s a big shot lawyer who can help Género and Yaneli." That would be a welcome miracle! All we know is that he went to the USA and doesn't seem to be in contact much. Evidently, Yaneli has a number for him. I wonder what his story is and if he will prove to be useful.
Well, I can hear the wind is howling out of the north but I have plenty of things to do, most of them holiday related. I love this time of year as long as there is no snow . . . just like now!
Susan, you sure called it describing this novela being about "toxic familial relationships". What a group!
Gracias, Jarifa.
This series is making me angrier by the minute over the fact that misogyny is still alive and thriving in the 21st century. We can see that Obregon is outright insecure and insulting. Genaro is a brute and I'm sure his father also was. Leandro was raised by Everardo, but WTF happened to Everardo to make him hate women to the degree that he does? It makes no sense in our time. I am hoping his 50% chance of survival goes south soon.
I am unclear on how Damian ran away as a minor and... what took Pablo so long to look for him? This isn't making sense at all.
Would Paloma's parents have done this to a son? I somehow doubt it. And if they caused Walter to leave her at the altar here's hoping he has the decency to rat them out over it.
Toxic family situations provide lots of drama, don't they? I'm sure there are a few Reddit stories out there that could become novelas.
Good Monday all.
We are having torrential rain and damaging winds and being warned of potential power outages.
If we don't lose power and I am able to watch, I will put something up for tonight.
Diana
Urban, yes, misogyny is alive and well, and I will add, EVERYWHERE. I could rant on for page after page but I will spare us all. Pablo threw Damián out of the house for some reason and it has taken him how many years to feel guilty about it ? I have my own theory on it all but will not mention it lest it turn out to be a spoiler.
Gracias, Jarifa. Your recaps are always a treat.
Hmmm, who was in that hoodie spying outside Yaneli's? I assumed it was Genaro but then they didn't show his face.
Like some of you, I'm now convinced Genaro is a red herring. But how much does he know about what's happened with Dulce? He's angry with Yaneli but he should be angry with himself for not telling her what's going on with him. Of course she'd suspect him with the ways he's acted. I also don't think he's a trafficker though, he's too emotional and where's the loot he would've acquired.
I'm wondering how much Carmina knows about Damian. We've gotten no flashbacks about what Damian was like or why Carmina didn't get along with him (other than the fact she's Carmina). She married Pablo when Damian was a little kid, so why despise him?
I gather from their theme that Paloma's parents are comic relief. Okay guys, I'm ready for ya'll to do something funny.
Susan
Gracias, Waterlily.
With parents like Addled and Gigi how could Sara and Jennifer not be screwed up? Gigi seems to be evolving but Addled is just as bad as ever. If we are within 30 episodes of the finale Sebastian is at risk of being this tale's sacrificial lamb thanks to Addled's threat.
I don't like Miriam's story either. She had to have grown up in dire straits to even get involved with Addled in the first place. She should take her son and leave town.
