Howdy from the Alamo City CarayCaray Family. Here's my super-short recap of this morning's episode.
*Jeronimo & Renata go their separate ways again for the umpteenth time OMG.
*Jeronimo has flashbacks of his time with Renata: Fast Forward.
*Renata crying on Adriana's shoulder about her break up with Jeronimo.
*Psycho Fina & Slacker Berta plotting their latest scheme of chaos: Uh-Oh.
*Gonzalo & Regina discussing something that I couldn't comprehend.
*Honorio & Connie planning some dinner event.
Today saw several important developments transpiring. A few conversations seemed repetitive and/or not terribly crucial to the storyline. However, there were a few critical conversations which were far above my level or understanding. Kindly fill in where I could not.
Rebeca patrols the kitchen, flexing her muscle and authority. Sneering, she stares directly at Renato, dumping a container full of sauce on the floor!
Angel is at the fabrica, on an assembly line of sorts, grounding ingredients in a wooden bowl. Rebeca calls her demanding she return!
Luciano is talking with his “wife”, who is backpedaling at a fast and furious pace. Romina starts begging Luciano for another chance, doing so right in front of Mati who looks on with a mixture of fear and hope. Luciano is not so inclined. Mati of course blames Fatima and stalks off.
Rebeca is ranting at Angel as Felipa comes over to comfort her. After, Angel tells Felipa something to the effect she wants things to work out in the restaurant because of her father.
When Renato gets a mop to clean up the mess Rebeca made, she angrily pulls it out of his hands, reminding him he is a chef. I don’t have to be the Amazing Kreskin to figure out who she has in mind for the task. ☹
Lupe has to get home; she and Luis need to find Lucas.
Tears well up in Lucas’ eyes as he looks at a picture of Brayan and Ramiro. He flashes back to Ramiro helping him with his computer and harkens back to being with Ramiro in jail. Remembering his lost and lamented friend’s friendship and loyalty, Lucas starts to cry.
Another family gathering where Cris’ birthday is (again) mentioned. Monica, with the ever-present cocktail in her hand, says something about Rebeca as Mau shakes his head and Don Emilio looks upset.
Fatima is talking with some workers when Mati appears. She tells Fatima that her mother is back; she seems to ask Fatima not to stand in the way of her parents being happy. Fatima tries to relate, telling her that her father left and didn’t come back (just wait I sigh sadly) but Mati argues that her mother did return! Fatima doesn’t seem to give in as Gabriel is listening around the corner. Mati later tries to explain things to him.
Lupe and Luis are looking for Lucas. Brayan and his goons are working out as he gives the order to find Lucas. They put on their hoods and immediately oblige.
Fatima cries to herself as Cris calls. She lies and says she is fine. Elena needs to see her, it’s important.
Brayan’s goons are doing acrobatic moves as they peer through a window and see Lucas asleep.
Luciano talks with Fatima who assures her (with a tiny bit of exasperation) that he loves her. She knows Romina has asked for another chance. I believe she wants to hit pause on their relationship in order for him to decide if he wants to be with her or the mother of his children. Frustrated, he stares after her car.
Diana
Oh God, Angel is now back in the restaurant, wearing elbow length rubber gloves, apron a bucket and mop, cleaning up the mess Rebeca made. Renato looks on helplessly.
Fatima greets JE just as Cris and Mau come in. Seeing Fatima’s glare, Cris immediately starts in, telling her that her father is ill. In a pathetic attempt to reinforce that news, Mau manages only a slight, fake cough (as viewerville rolls our eyes collectively). This only fuels her fire as Fatima goes on that Mau abandoned the family for another woman and also went to jail. Eyes flashing, Fatima declares she is not interested in hearing anything further. JE stares stonily.
Luciano tries to talk with Romina. He asks her what is going on…he brings up the fraud and tells her to be very careful. I believe he ends up telling her he doesn’t love her.
Marisa and Loli are at Alma’s discussing Rebeca’s situation.
There is a brief scene where Elena talks with Rebeca. I assume it is the shares as Rebeca seems to be blaming Monica. I couldn’t decipher if they discussed what happened with JE or not. Elena says something to Rebeca about how important Angel is to her; (then act it I say angrily ☹). Rebeca seems to snow her but I couldn’t follow what was said.
Misael and Bruno seem to be plotting to frame Gabriela.
The family conference, to either legitimize or dismiss the validity of Don Emilio’s signature begins.
Outside the meeting, we see Bruno lurking…He surreptitiously slithers up to Gabriela’s desk, planting something (it looked like a phone).
The notary declares that Don Emilio’s signature is legit and JE is declared president. He congratulates JE as Misael gives JE the side eye.
Brayan and the thugs wake Lucas up, Brayan roughly yelling “get up princess”. Lucas juts his chin out and with great courage, keeps poking Brayan in the chest, insisting it is his fault that Ramiro is dead. Brayan grabs Lucas by the hair demanding respect!
Doris remembers coming onto Ramiro in the restaurant…
Brayan and his thugs set upon Lucas, beating him fiercely, without mercy. Finally, they stomp on him to make their point. As blood streams down Lucas’ face, Bryan threatens him as Lucas is kicked again, crying out in agony.
Mati, whining incessantly at this point, again berates Luciano for not giving her mother another chance. Gabriel is lurking again. At this point, I am starting to wonder if he is a stalker.
Romina is wheeling out her suitcase and tells Mati she has her own serious problems and leaves without a kiss or a hug or a word of comfort for her daughter.
A battered and bloodied Lucas manages to somehow get outside. He collapses on the street where people rush to his aid. Marisa happens by and staring in disbelief, asks that an ambulance be called. She immediately calls Lupe.
JE and Fatima are flummoxed to see Rebeca arrive, being warmly greeted by Cris. Cris personally invites her to her birthday celebration; Fatima and JE are impactada.
An exhausted Angel sits down as Elena brings coffee. Elena brings up JE but Angel says it’s impossible. I couldn’t follow most of their talk, Santiago and Monica were mentioned. Also, unbelievably, Elena seems to say Rebeca is the victim. Please fill in you can.
Fatima seems to go on a rant blaming Rebeca and tells JE to be careful.
Rebeca comes home to a darkened house but Alma is up and waiting for her. She asks her to explain herself as to what is going on, expressing contempt. She tells her Elena is a good woman and is your mother. Alma has had enough and seems to tell her if you don’t tell them you are Frida, I will!
Diana
Good stuff, Diana.
I think Alma just wrote her own death warrant. Rebecca has no respect for life and Alma is high on her execution list.
If Refeida really wanted that restaura t she wouldn't create such bad feeling in it. These employees worked for a long time for Elena and Angelli. All she wants is to make Angelli's life a living hell by any means at her disposal. I think she is totally delusional about getting JE; as along as he stays sober he will never want her as long as Angelli is alive so if she ever realizes that she will plan to murder her.
Then she would taunt Elena about this.
Thanks so much SpanProf. I appreciate the details you added!
So the dishwashing job was the only one available?? I find Elena's overall acquiescence puzzling, especially for her seeming to accept Rebeca's tryst with JE with hardly a rebuke.
Mati has seen enough of her mother's selfishness that she should realize her parents getting back together will not and should not happen.
Yes, Lucas' beating was merciless. Hard to watch.
I thought the same thing about Alma...
Diana
Urban, thank you...
Yes, Alma does indeed seem to have "signed her own death warrant". I guess she doesn't realize exactly how dangerous Rebeca is. A fatal mistake.
I fear it's far too early for Angel and JE to reconcile. I'm shuddering as to what might happen to keep that from occurring.
I think Rebeca will target Angel; that way she can devastate her competition as well as Elena in one fell swoop. Ack.
Diana
Gracias, Diana. Such a pleasure to get cozy with your recaps each day.
Sad. Alma knows Rebecca is loca but doesn't realize her daughter is probably up for matricide. If Rebecca arranges, say, Brian's thugs to mow down her mom, a sympathetic Cris and a reluctant JE would feel they had to be nice to her.
Fatima is dumb and insecure about Luciano and his soon ex, but she is right on the money about Rebecca. JE told her the night in bed is his fault because her dad was just buried and they drank too much. Fatima balked and said something like "she was aiming for you, don't trust that broad."
Lucas is between a rock and a hard place. He needs to be far far away from Brian and his idiot flunkies. But there's no place to hide, or is there?
Diana, thank you for bringing us another excellent recap of all the bad people making life difficult for the good folks .
I have had it with the gang doing street acrobatics and then beating up Lucas. I dont need to watch anymore of that.
Every time Mau coughs, I want everyone in the room with him to cough too. That would be hilarious.
RefrIda looked demented as she snarled at Renato and dumped that sauce on the floor. I kind of gagged at the thought of her huge head of hair flying around in that kitchen where the food was being prepared. Yuck.
Mati has to wake up to who her mother is. Romino knows she is in big trouble and wants Luciano back to protect her.
Susan
Thanks so much Niecie.
Loved "Alma knows Rebecca is loca but doesn't realize her daughter is probably up for matricide" which sums Alma's precarious situation up perfectly.
I had not understood that Fatima has Rebeca's number down pat. I wish she would share it with Elena who really needs to get a clue...
I agree that Lucas needs to get out of town. But to where? Great question.
Diana
Susan, thank you!
"Every time Mau coughs, I want everyone in the room with him to cough too. That would be hilarious". I am still laughing envisioning it; that would be great!
Yes, no caps or (gasp) hairnets for the kitchen staff. It also seems no safety protocols (e.g. cleaning up hot food spills) are in place. Hmmm, the FDA and OSHA would have a field day here!
Diana
I really appreciate your recaps, Diana! Thanks so much!
Refrida isn't doing herself any favors. The treatment of Angelli is outrageous. Monica could end up as the majority owner of a restaurant with no employees. Renato tried to reason with her. The restaurant wasn't even open; why does the dishwasher need to be there? And it was said she'd left the kitchen immaculate the night before.
I am SO over Mati. She's old enough to understand that it's senseless to try to force her parents back together. I think they're having Gabriel overhear her hissy fits as a way to have someone talk sense to her. He did so, telling her more or less the old saying: El corazón no se manda. (You can't order your heart who to love.) I'm losing hope she'll stop griping about living at the hacienda and accept that her mother is a selfish beyotch.
Scheming Monica put Cris up to inviting Rebeca to pay her back for "saving" her from the attack Monica herself arranged.
I don't think Fatima knew about her father being in jail. IIRC she only mentioned his stealing her mother's jewelry and running off with anothr woman.
Luciano is handling Romina well. He flat out told her he no longer loved her. He also tried to warn her about her ending up in a pickle because of the embezzled money. The look on her face when he said someone would end up in jail...priceless.
Fatima disappointed me with thinking for a second that Luciano should try to stay with Romina. She did accurately say what's happening: "You ony know what you have when you lose it."
Rebeca tried to butter up Elena by saying that it was Monica who wants to get rid of Angelli and she did her a big favor letting her be the dishwasher. And, yes, Alma's days may be numbered.
I was glad to see Fatima tell J.E. what's going on with Rebeca/Refrida. Not that he didn't keep blaming himself.
I am not thrilled with the writing on this novela. All the good guys are dopes and swallow BS all the time. Only Don Emilio has an excuse, an injury. Even with brain damage he figures things out better than Cris, J.E. and especially Elena. And, if Lucas helps Brayan and the thugs on another robbery, I will be really upset.
Howdy, Patio.
Thanks, Diana. Your recaps are always a great read.
Tonight was like the Annoying Olympics with a quarter of the cast vying for gold. Oddly enough, JE wasn’t among them this time. It won’t last.
First up, Matilde. Her screeching and tantrums and know-it-all attitude were grating. Kudos to the writers and the actress for making it believable. One of her (many) diatribes was about the ranch and Gabriel being beneath her (when he’s actually looking out for her best interests). I hope she doesn’t choke on the crow she’ll be eating after Romina resumed her self-serving ways.
We know Lucas is racked by grief, but just how did he think his standoff with Brayan was going to end? I’m not a fan of violence or dumb decisions. Poor Lupe. Brayan’s plan is to break into a bougie jewelry shop by having Lucas hack into the mainframe a la Ramiro (RIP).
Fátima was completely bipolar this hour - completely clueless with Luciano and then dead on it with Mauricio and later when she called Rebecca out with JE. I want to play Mauricio’s Pertussis Game. Did anyone else catch Cristina recoil when he put his hands on her shoulders? There may still be hope!
Elena’s naïveté and failure to see through her bad seed and protect the good daughter is maddening (and let’s not forget how she coddles The Boy with the Crappy Tattoo).
Misael wants Bruno to return Gabriella’s hard drive to a spot where she’ll easily find it. Before he can tell Bruno his master plan, The Joker (née Mónica Rivero Cuéllar) whisked him away to the shareholders’ meeting.
It’s disappointing to see Don Emilio & Cris snowed by Rebecca (and Joker), BUT, it should make for an interesting birthday party.
Elena’s General Foods®️ International Coffee does little to help Angelli. She advises she’ll get over JE over time. Why she herself got over Ulises/Christian de la Campa (which we all know is physically impossible). Her mother will always be there for her (as long as Rebecca and/or Santiago aren’t in need). Next there’s a PSA about appreciating The Help (dishwashers, bus boys, moppers, sweepers, etc.). Elena takes the bronze for Annoying by asking Ang to give Rebecca the benefit of the doubt and assuming Joker is the real villain.
The writing is clearly on the wall. Alma will be joining Salsero (or whatever his name is in this novela) soon. I kid. His name is Antonio. It’s a pity. She finally showed a backbone. Had the credits not rolled, Rebecca may have gotten a well-deserved chanclaso.
One can dream.
Novelera, thank you so much. I so appreciated all your astute comments!
Loved your "El corazón no se manda (You can't order your heart who to love)" which is so true! If only we could will things to be the way we wish.
Thank you for noting Fatima did not know her father was in jail which I assumed rather than heard.
Refrida is blaming Monica as an excuse for every slight and hurt she has heaped on Angel. Why is Elena not holding her more culpable? She does not know Rebeca is also her daughter. Yet. In my mind she should have been far more supportive of Angel than she has been.
"Even with brain damage he figures things out better than Cris, J.E. and especially Elena" had me smiling away. Wise words Novelera and I share your frustration...
Diana
Thank you O.S.
You added so many thoughtful and wise comments. "Annoying Olympics" had me laughing away.
Thank you for your witty "...Brayan’s plan is to break into a bougie jewelry shop by having Lucas hack into the mainframe a la Ramiro (RIP)" which was something I hadn't understood. You are entirely right of course in that Lucas is immersed in sadness and although it was foolhardy, I did admire that he stood up to Brayan.
"Elena’s naïveté and failure to see through her bad seed and protect the good daughter is maddening (and let’s not forget how she coddles The Boy with the Crappy Tattoo)" and "Her mother will always be there for her (as long as Rebecca and/or Santiago aren’t in need)" were perfect.
I think we are all in agreement that it doesn't appear Alma is long for this world.
Diana
Diana, thank you for another great recap, it was fun to read although it wasn't a really fun episode. I can't add much to the comments, I'm afraid.
"Luciano tries to talk with Romina. ...he ends up telling her he doesn’t love her." And she looked absolutely shocked. Why???
I am happy to see that Doris has a conscience although it's making her suffer right now. But she should.
Poor Lucas really got a beating from Brayan and his henchies. I am worried about him and I wonder now what his parents will do.
Susan, "I have had it with the gang doing street acrobatics and then beating up Lucas. I dont need to watch anymore of that." That makes at least two of us.
I'm really surprised that Alma would stand up to Rebeca, after all these years.
There are a few things in this novela that border on the absurd. As Darcy has pointed out a few times, the whole business of just keeping some child found by herself in the forest is really too much in the 21st century. And that lots of people know about it and seemingly don't really care makes it even more unbelievable. Two people keeping such a secret, possible. A lot of people, no.
And so much heartache could have been averted if they had reunited Rebeca with her birth family. That would have been a very different novela.
But maybe a better one.
Andy
Thank you Diana for another wonderful recap! It was a brutal episode and you painted it perfectly!
I don't have much time today to add anything - more IT problems at work which will hopefully be resolved! Luckily, everything's been covered anyway by you and the wonderful patio! O.S., you had me cracking up!!!! Your comment about never getting over Christian de la Campa made me think of a novela role that Michel Brown did where his character was divorced and the new landlady said, 'What's wrong with your ex-wife, is she blind?' LOL I laughed at that for - well, I'm still laughing at that years later! She was right too!
One thing about Lucas, he promised Ramiro in prison that he would never work another job with Brayan, so that's what prompted the beating. He refused to take part in the heist and said he's out of the gang! It's a dangerous position for sure, and we'll see whether Lucas can stand strong, stay away, and manage to stay safe!!!
I'm with you on Gabriel, he seemed sweet at first but he is getting stalkerish!
OS: How long before Gullible Elena joins the Body Count ?
Darcy: Looking like Alma will be joining the growing Body Count soon. Like I said earlier, this Telenovela is based off of the origi, which was bloodthirsty & chaotic.
Andy, thank you so much. I appreciate your razor sharp observations.
"I'm really surprised that Alma would stand up to Rebeca, after all these years" was exactly right! She was content to keep a child that wasn't her daughter without many qualms. Seeing Rebeca hurt Elena and Angel proved to be too much even for her previous non-existent conscience.
I think Romina thought Luciano was far more besotted with her than he ever was. Plus, Fatima has him experiencing a very real love. Also, she knew she had Mati's support and devotion but when she saw it wasn't making any inroads with Luciano, decided to take a powder.
"I am happy to see that Doris has a conscience although it's making her suffer right now. But she should". Yes...I'm hoping it bothers her so much she decides to tell the truth.
I am very worried for Lucas...
Diana
Darcy, thank you for your kind, encouraging words.
I am so sorry you are having IT problems. They are THE worst and hope they are resolved quickly.
Thank you for the Christian story! I appreciated a bit of levity this morning after last night's drama and sadness.
Thank you for noting Lucas told Brayan he was done. I should have gathered that given Brayan's brutish response.
Lucas needs someone to come to his rescue. His Robin needs a Batman...
Diana
All great comments.
Mejia seems to have traded inappropriate comic relief for the absurdly unbelievable:
--- Elena's cluelessness about her own children
--- Alma getting away with keeping Refrida
If these two things had been corrected the series would be over by now.
I am also frustrated with Mati's delusion that her parents will get back together as well as the ugly words that happen when couples argue.
Lucas can only get out of Dodge if either parent has out-of-town relatives he can go to for the rest of his school years.
I won't be able to watch today's episode until tomorrow morning because I have my tax appointment today. The time slot change really breaks up my days.
We open with a long conversation between Alma and Rebeca taking place over several scenes. Alma continues to tell Rebeca she will not allow her to continue to keep her existence from Elena and Angel. “I won’t permit it” Alma grits through her teeth to Rebeca. But the tide quickly turns as Rebeca threatens her with jail. She tells Alma (rightly so) that she kept her away from her family for many years. You will end up alone in jail, with the rats for years. Calling Alma’s bluff, Rebeca picks up her phone and extends it to Alma. Who do you want to call, Elena or Angel?
Adolfo tries to read as Monica swills her drink and needles him about Cris. He shakes his head and leaves the bedroom.
Fully alarmed, Alma backtracks, now apologetic as she follows Rebeca into her room. She asks Rebeca why she is being so mean to Angel among other things. Shockingly Rebeca says “te quiero”, stroking her cheek. Alma looking flabbergasted but happy at this tiny show of affection starts to respond. Then Rebeca seems to take the gesture back, saying something I couldn’t understand.
JE is remembering the full five minutes of happiness he and Angel shared after the wedding. Fatima hopes they have another chance and suggests he recoup the love of his life.
“Mama” Rebeca purrs…asking her something which Alma agrees to. However Alma seems to ask for a favor first. If anyone can provide what that was, I would greatly appreciate it. Alma takes a blanket and pillow and sadly leaves the room. Rebeca flops on the bed and says something which surely wasn’t sugar, spice or anything nice.
Lupe and Luis are at the hospital at Lucas’ bedside.
Don Emilio and the family are celebrating JE’s appointment as President. Well, everyone except Misael and Monica. Don Emillio mentions Cris and her entire family, crying and choking as he says Dulce’s name.
Elena tells Angel how important she is to her and gives her a blessing.
Cris and JE assure Don Emilio that Dulce will live forever in their minds and hearts. Mau looks unmoved and unemotional. Don continues his speech, mentioning Monica and her family. Monica puts her foot in her mouth and then apologizes with a little sarcastic shiver.
Mati is talking with Sandra and decides to call Lucas. Lupe picks up the phone and tells her Lucas is in the hospital. Wait, she pleads, identifying herself as Matilde, Lucas’ novia. Lupe’s face registers her shock.
Oh great. Now Angel, in her purple gloves is mopping the restaurant lobby. Rebeca is there breathing in clean air while exhaling poison. Jimena comes in with a lovely bouquet of flowers. She waltzes past Rebeca, handing them to Angel. She reads the sweet card from JE as Rebeca leaves in a snit.
Santiago shows up to confront Monica. In a shocking and unexpectedly brave move, he affirms that just as Monica has protected her son, he will also do whatever is necessary to protect Elena and Angel. He stares at her levelly, promising he can go to JE at the time of his choosing and tell him it was Misael who shot Dulce! Further, he states that Misael wanted the documents that proved he was the one guilty of committing fraud! We also learn that Angel was going to mortgage the house to buy back Monica’s shares in the restaurant. But now, Monica will have to allow Angel to buy back the shares.
Diana
Gabriela steps forward to congratulate JE. She is warm and effusive…They shake hands as Sebastian come up asking for financial information. JE pulls out the phone (or whatever it is) from Gabriela’s workstation and hands it to Sebastian.
Gi and Renato join Elena, Angel and Renato. I couldn’t understand the upshot but Rebeca seemed to throw cold water on whatever was suggested. Elena and Angel just seem to stand there and take it.
Bruno is bellyaching about Santiago to Misael. Misael seems to tell Bruno things will work out.
JE is effusing about something to Elena and Fatima as Sebastian enters. He states that Gabriela is guilty of the theft. Everyone looks shocked. JE at first rebukes this and Elena says she doesn’t believe it! Gabriela worked for and has been loyal to my father for many years she affirms. But Sebastian is firm and says the evidence is solid.
Bruno bursts into Misael’s office. Of course it was Misael who adjusted the account information to implicate Gabriela. Misael makes the hand and accompanying facial motions to indicate things are blowing up.
Romina approaches Gabriela just as a large continent including JE, Elena, Sebastian, Icky and Agent Corral approach. Initially both JE and Gabriela are unable to look Gabriela in the eye (as well they should).as Wife. JE and Agent Corral show up Elena unable to look g in the eye. Despite her protestations of innocence, her decades of service and devotion, she is seemingly tried and convicted by those to whom she dedicated her life. Misael comes out triumphantly. Gabriela starts begging and crying, proclaiming her innocence. She is led away as even Iker looks upset.
Mati runs to Gabriel about Lucas, asking him to take her but he refuses. He repeats the words she had uttered to her father that he is just a simple ranch hand. Ouch.
Luciano asks a crying Mati what’s wrong and takes her hand. Nothing she says at first and then tells him what happened to Lucas. He immediately offers to take her to the hospital as she hugs him gratefully.
Rebeca holds up the sequin dress and fantasizes about JE.
Santiago seems to be making a genuine apology tour to Angel, seemingly genuinely concerned.
JE is in his tux as he goes to find out where Don Emilio is. Don Emilio doesn’t want to go to the celebration, he feels he isn’t the man he used to be. JE assures him how much he is loved and respected. You are the patriarch of this family JE asserts as he kneels in front of his adored grandfather. He hugs and kisses him and my eyes are misting. Thankfully, his words do the trick. Perhaps he might try a similar approach to his wife whom he has treated terribly.
Renato is giving culinary instructions to the staff, Angel standing smiling next to him. Elena arrives and seems to be trying to convince her to talk with JE, Renato and Gi looking on unsmiling in the background.
Luciano and Mati arrive at the hospital and meet Lupe and Luis. She sits on the bed and Lucas looks happy to see her.
JE runs into Rebeca who says hello my love, peppering him with kisses. Of course Angel walks up and sees and turns on her heel and leaves. Misael arrives and I believe he says that someone has been arrested for the fraud so she no longer has to protect JE! Misael declares she is “his” and wants her all to himself! They are in full kiss mode when Monica appears and says “Misael” in the most unapproving manner.
JE, holding the signed divorce degree, chases Angel as he tries to explain. She listens and being the kind, gentle and (too) trusting soul she is, forgives him. Long, rapturous kisses ensue…
Diana
Urban, "Mejia seems to have traded inappropriate comic relief for the absurdly unbelievable" made me smile. I completely agree.
If Brayan and his little gang of thugs disburse, (incarceration likely), Lucas may be able to live in peace. But right now, he needs to be spirited out of town. Pronto. As you noted, hopefully, there is an out of town relative he can stay with.
Good luck with your taxes...
Diana
Diana, super job. I love your digs at Rebeca:
Rebeca flops on the bed and says something which surely wasn’t sugar, spice or anything nice.
Rebeca is there breathing in clean air while exhaling poison.
Fortunately for Alma, Rebeca managed to calm down her mom and she's out of danger of getting whacked.
The treatment of Gabriela was SHAMEFUL. I thought JE would at least talk to her one on one first, and that he and Cris would not let the arrest be public for all employees to see and gossip about. And just dumb of JE not to realize the real culprit would set up an innocent. Is it possible that Gabriela's public arrest is just a ruse to fool Misael?
In a shocking and unexpectedly brave move, he [Santiago] affirms that just as Monica has protected her son, he will also do whatever is necessary to protect Elena and Angel.
Diana, you nailed it. Maybe Santi is finally growing up. I sure hope his gutsy move with Monica works. I'm sick and tired of seeing Angel under Rebeca's foot at the restaurant.
Niecie, thank you so very much!
So Alma will live another day; at least for now!!
Yes, "SHAMEFUL" is the perfect word for how shabbily Gabriela was treated. I hate to say this but Elena led by a very poor example especially as she saw firsthand how devoted Gabriela is to Don Emilio. I am sure he is not going to believe it or at least I fervently hope he doesn't.
Niecie, I would love it if Gabriela's arrest was a ruse but I fear the writers aren't as clever as you.
It would be wonderful if Santi grows up. I'm tired of his mewling.
I'm starting to wonder if we will soon see Angel in the men's washroom. With a toothbrush. Basta!
Diana
Dear Diana, I look forward to reading the intriguing tale you spin from all the angst and frustration each day .
Perhaps Luciano will offer to take Lucas to the hacienda to recuperate . That would be nice , but it won't make Gabriel happy . I dont like Mati, so I don't care which guy she ends up with at the finale.
I forgave JE a tiny bit seeing him hug his sweet abuelo in that snappy arygyle sweater . I noticed he still had the galan paralysis when Refrida slobbered all over him . These guys are sooooo s l o w to react to stop those unwanted smooches.
Susan
Thank you so much Susan.
I was touched by JE and Don Emilio. But yes JE did have "galan paralysis" didn't he? AGAIN! So frustrating...
I think Lucas may need to get outta Dodge...to a land far, far away. :)
Diana
EPISODE#106:
Howdy from the Alamo City CarayCaray Family. Here's my super-short recap of this morning's 2-HR episode:
*Gonzalo is pissed off upon finding out that Snitching Soto was the one who slept with Psycho Fina & fires him on the spot LOL.
*Adriana upset that Renata didn't tell Jeronimo the whole truth about having to avoid prison following the Blanca debacle, etc.,
*Slacker Selene thanks Chema for not holding it against her: Connie & Honorio are back together, let's see how long that'll last.
*Fina telling Slacker Berta to go along in tricking Gullible Regina that Berta is the real daughter, NOT Renata.
*Adriana commiserating with Renata about love troubles.
*More gleeefulness & EVIL from Fina & Slacker Berta: OMG Fast Forward.
*Matias admitting the obvious: He NEVER liked Fina. Also not shocked both Honorio & Connie do NOT like Fina either; It finally dawns on them why Fina & Berta always ganged up on Renata.
*Matilde visiting Dr. Marina for a checkup: What could possibly go wrong ?
*Karina & Lazaro kissing & viewerville cheers. But for how long because I've got the sneaking suspicion that Scumbag Alvaro isn't dead yet.
*Fina confirming the obvious to Gullible Regina: Fina IS Pepa, who kidnapped her biological daughter. We all KNOW Renata IS Regina's daughter.
Diana, thank you yet again. I would not have understood half of today's show without your recap and the comments.
I did have to laugh at the beginning of the show. Although it was not funny, not at all, Refrida echoed some of our complaints about Alma and Antonio keeping her and not returning her to her birth family. Let me say that I largely blame Antonio. It was Alma who was desperate to keep Rebeca, but Alma was (is?) a bit crazy. Antonio loved his crazy wife, but sometimes we have to be firm with crazy people, even those we love.
Not much happening yet with Mauricio. I am withholding judgment on him.
Poor Adolfo! Still paying for his sins with Monica after all these years.
Poor Gabriela! But I'm not too worried, just confused. Bruno and Misael set her up; Santiago wanted to make a deal with Monica; and Agente Corral is on the scene again.
What could go wrong?
They actually did call the police, I don't think the police would have pretended to arrest Gabriela. But I'm not sure that the family, other than Sebastian, really believes Gabriela guilty.
I do find it a bit annoying how this novela keeps interrupting the commercials. And Angel keeps taking JE back, that's annoying too.
Andy
Andy,
I so enjoyed your perceptive, wry and wonderful comments. Thank you...
"Antonio loved his crazy wife, but sometimes we have to be firm with crazy people, even those we love" was great. Rock solid advice!
JE turning against Gabriela wasn't at all surprising. After all, he believed the worst of his totally supportive, loving bride whose only fault was to love him. I was disappointed in Elena though; the arrest seemed so surreal.
I didn't understand exactly what JE told Angel in their last scene but I doubt it warranted her forgivenss. Again. "Angel keeps taking JE back" is definitely annoying...
Diana
Thanks so much, Diana. That was a very eventful episode and you did it justice.
I loved the arrival of the flowers. Gi was SO enjoying presenting them in front of Refrida. Refrida, of course, told Gi they must be for her and to put them in her office. This made it even better when Gi told her, sorry, but these are for Angelli and READ JE'S LOVING CARD OUT LOUD!
I'm confused about the big dinner with the mucky mucks. Angelli was talking about the dinner with her mother, and it looked to me like Rebeca flat said they were her employees and couldn't use Renato or even attend. Then we saw Renato instructing some guys on the menu, so maybe that was it. And, of course, the whole cast was at this celebration. Was the restaurant closed?
Also confused about the arrest at the company. Sebastian insisted it had to be Gabriela. JE kept saying it couldn't be, as did Cris. I thought they left it at they'd investigate some more. Next thing I see she's being led off in handcuffs.
Can't JE ever learn to run the other way when he sees Rebeca or at least bite her when she starts kissing him?
And, of course, Lucas, thinking he's protecting his parents, doesn't say it was Brayan and the junior thugs who beat the crap out of him. Brayan did say he might have them killed.
Anyway, the plot keeps me wondering but the writing leaves a lot to be desired. And, of course, our passionate and loving kiss at the end could only be enjoyed as long as we forgot that Refrida has a bun in the oven.
Thank you, Diana, for another fantastic recap, and for all the hard work you do every day to keep this patio humming!
This episode was actually pretty hopeful (which is surely a trick)! Lots of things finally didn't go Rebeca's way! First, Santi comes out of nowhere and pulls that AWESOME one-up on Monica, and then JE manages to win Angel back, at least for the moment, and Monica catches her with Misael which is definitely not going to go over well.
I keep meaning to say, it's ridiculous that Refrida has Angel doing the dishes. Monica may be majority owner (for the moment) but Angel and Elena still have some ownership in the restaurant, legally speaking I don't think 'Monica' could make Angel wash dishes or fire her.
Watching this episode it hit home that Monica IS Refrida!! Want to know what Refrida will look like in 20 years - if she lives that long - glance at Monica!!! At the house, when DE was giving his speech about having the family with him, Monica was annoyed just at hearing him say Cris and her children's names before the names of Monica and Misael!! That lady is so jealous of Cris, she's seething!!! At the end, the comment Monica made that put a foot in her mouth was a snide remark about Mauricio and how surely he wasn't going to the event cuz that would embarrass the family! It was actually pretty funny!
I knew as soon as JE greeted Gabriela so warmly talking about what a treasure she was to the company, that he was going to humiliate her!!! As you pointed out, we've seen first hand how cruel he is to those he cares about and the second he showed appreciation for her she was doomed!!! What I found annoyed was how Bruno and Misael went on and on about what a expert Sebastian is in all things finance and how he's going to find EVERYTHING, and then he does a 3 min investigation into it and lands on the lowest hanging fruit!!! And as others have pointed out, doesn't even consider the very obvious set-up angle! Shoot just the fact that Gaby insisted she couldn't find the documents and they suddenly they're right there in plain sight should have been a hint!!! I wonder what happened to Misael's plan to frame JE?
Santi's scene with Monica was GOLD!!! I loved every minute of it and you described it so perfectly!! Just the self-assured confident and in control look on Santi's face while he told the Sr. Snake that he holds the trump card was PRICELESS!!! Totally worth the price of admission!!!
I didn't listen closely to JE's plea to Angel, mostly because I don't like him, and I don't care; but I don't think it was a big apology. I think it was more of a challenge, like 'You have the signed divorce papers, are you going to walk away or are you going to fight for our marriage? Do you really want this to be over?' Honestly, Santi and Elena probably did more to convince her than he did. They had her thinking, especially Santi who asked her if she was going to let her pride keep her from the love of her life. I think she showed up already ready to forgive JE. The Refrida kiss probably gave her pause, but she had probably already decided before JE started talking.
Novelera, yeah the arrest of Gabriela was another one of the awkward transitions we've seen in this show. They did go directly from 'we have to investigate further and leave no stone unturned before we accuse Gabi' to the arrest scene from one min to another. I don't even know what they call the person in charge of storyline flow - but whomever it is, is making some odd decisions on this story!
Thank you so much Novelera!
"Can't JE ever learn to run the other way when he sees Rebeca or at least bite her when she starts kissing him?" ITA!
I also enjoyed Refrida's anger and frustration about the flowers. And actually, she has made no progress at all with JE. He isn't into her at all, Angel or no Angel.
I readily admit I was confused and still am as to what the "dinner" is. Is it business or pleasure? It's not Cris' long awaited birthday celebration (?) is it.
Yup, Lucas must go on the lam...
Diana
Thank you for your kind words Darcy.
Refrida is ruling the restaurant with an iron fist. I'm still annoyed Elena doesn't take her to task for having her daughter clean up spills. WTH? As you noted they do own a piece of the restaurant and should have some say.
"Want to know what Refrida will look like in 20 years - if she lives that long - glance at Monica!!!" I was shaking my head in agreement reading your inspired rationale and am fully on board.
I was confused too about why Misael settled on framing Gabriela rather than JE. Perhaps he and Bruno couldn't come up with anything feasible? A strange change of direction. And the fact Gabriela had no support from those to whom she is obviously dedicated was very disturbing. Cris really let her down. JE did as well but he's let everyone down who has either loved or cared for him.
Yes, the "Sr. Snake" (love it) was shocked by Santiago! Serious and self assured we saw a totally different side. I'm going to savor that scene as it shows the person Santiago still might have the opportunity to be.
So JE's plea was more practical than emotional. No surprise. Shall we take bets as to how long this reconciliation (is it the third?) will last?
Diana
Thanks so much Diana, two great recaps. I don’t know how you do it. I went away for a long weekend and before I unpacked I started watching double episodes.
I love how Rebeca is making no progress with JE. I guess because a couple of hoodlums find her attractive she’s decided she’s irresistible to JE. He does need to push her away sooner. I couldn’t believe how she just walked up and started kissing him. Plus, I think Misael will suspect the baby is his. .
I wondered if Gabriela’s arrest was planned to try and find the real culprit. They can’t believe she really did it. With the “evidence” in plain sight on her desk. I’m hoping today we’ll find out they know she was set up.
I feel like Lucas and his parents will go to the hacienda with Luciano and Mati. That will be safest for them.
Doris will eventually crack. She’s not as unfeeling as Rebeca. And she has no goal of revenge like Rebeca does.
Liz
Liz, I was wondering if you were away and am happy to see that was the case. Hope you had a wonderful time.
Thank you so much.
"I guess because a couple of hoodlums find her attractive she’s decided she’s irresistible to JE" is perfect!! Love it.
I fervently wish Gabriela's arrest was a setup!! However, given Cris' inability to look her in the eye makes me think otherwise (unfortunately).
Yes, Doris seems to have somewhat of a conscience. And the truth is that Rebeca has absolutely no loyalty to Doris, nor anyone for that matter! :)
Diana
I won't give JE a high score for woo, but he did say to Angel that the only reason he signed the divorce papers is because that's what she wanted (so I give him a point for considering what she wants) and it was the only way he could get her to listen to him. As for what he had to say for her to listen to it was more "I love you" that he's been saying all along since the Rebecca bed fiasco.
Misael is the Captain of His Ship, until mama shows up and catches him kissing Rebecca.
Niecie, "I won't give JE a high score for woo... HA!
Thank you for sharing the noteworthy point that JE signed the papers because that is what Angel wanted and that he was declaring his love for her.
Monica seemed really surpised to see Monica kissing Misael. Just wait Mon...:)
Diana
JE rushes down the steps into Angel’s arms, holding her as they hungrily kiss, promising that he loves her. She tearily mentions Rebeca but in the next breath he promises her “forever”. He brings up Santiago but then quickly switches gears to their being happily ever after…They are actually smiling and he murmurs about a romantic night. JE is really laying it on and Angel has the light of love emanating from her eyes as she clutches the signed but now seemingly irrelevant divorce papers in her hands.
After catching Misael and Rebeca’s kiss, Monica upbraids her telling her Misael is off limits, she is supposed to be with JE. Misael tells her enough which Monica totally ignores. Monica continues to strike with her forked tongue and tells Rebeca to git. Misael calls Monica out for her manipulation. She tells him to think of his position, his social standing. She wants him focused on JE!
Whatever the swanky soiree is supposed to be, it’s on. Armando is trying to get in but when asked for his invitation he says he doesn’t need one – he is married to Gi. Meanwhile we see a head table set up inside with Don Emilio being his always charming self. Cris and Angel greet a happy JE who shares the good news of the (sure to be short) reconciliation with them. They are delighted. He kisses both enthusiastically and then runs out of the room. Rebeca enters and looks around expectantly, just having missed JE.
Elena and Angel are with Renato and Gi. Angel explains she has to go and Renato is gracious and quite sweet about it. JE calls Angel and her face lights up, the butterflies palpable as she kisses her little group goodbye. She hands her jacket off and heads out. Renato looks a bit sad. Are you all right Gi asks?
Lupe and Luis are at Lucas’s bedside. I believe Lucas says he will not be associating with Brayan any longer. They are smiling and supportive. Mati comes in and is greeted warmly by his parents. Lupe fakes being tired and after kissing their son, they hug Mati and they head out. Mati has smuggled all kinds of candy in and Lucas looks at her as though she is an angel and thanks her.
Fatima tells Cris that Reb is there, Fatima is not happy. Before Rebeca can embrace her, Fatima turns and leaves. Adolfo comes up and asks where JE is. I don’t know Cris lies.
The speeches begin as Rebeca looks around the room and then scoots. Adolfo starts in about Mau when Fatima arrives and Monica struts in attaching herself to Adolfo like an unwanted barnacle.
Misael talks to Bruno about the fraud and then mentions Romina. We flashback to Luciano warning Romina about what she is getting embroiled in and to be careful. Next, Romina shows up at JE’s with THE folder, saying she needs to see him. So does she leave with the folder, no, she LEAVES it with the housekeeper. At that moment, Luciano alights from his car and sees her leave, perplexed.
Gi sizes Rebeca’s outfit up a tad distastefully. Rebeca sees a white jacket thrown over a chair and seems to somehow connect it is what Angel was wearing and that Angel is gone.
Diana
Somewhere in paradise, JE has managed to set up a very romantic setting. A bed laden with red rose petals, burning candles and champagne lend to the ambiance. We have the feeding and sharing of grapes and deep, longing kisses as the theme music plays. They slowly start to undress and kiss.
Luciano shows up looking for Fatima, she’s not there the housekeeper (still clutching THE folder) advises.
Doris and Icky show up at the restaurant and Jimena is standing at the podium. He at least is a bit embarrassed. Doris charges in, oblivious to Jimena’s obvious discomfort.
Fatima and Cris chat, Cris trying in vain to give Mau another chance.
Doris is making a spectacle of herself, scratching and having trouble keeping her top intact. For a split second, it seemed as though the actor playing Icky was going to laugh. But he manages to get the proper embarrassed look back on his face.
Meanwhile, Mau is prowling the empty house, finding THE folder and avidly reading its contents. Very interesting he murmurs.
Elena, Renato and Gi talk as Rebeca flies in on her broom. They pick up the serving stations and march out. Oh no, Rebeca checks Angel’s left behind jacket and finds the signed divorce papers!!
Mati has fallen asleep on Lucas’ hospital bed.
We next see the morning after, Angel wrapped up as she sits up looking for JE. Oh my, there is an actual babbling brook right next to the bed!! No, I stand corrected. The romantic setting was actually right next to the waterfall where they declared their love many times before. JE is swimming and Angel sits on the rocks as they kiss.
Santi greets Elena as the bank calls her. I believe it was something about the restaurant loan?
Rebeca tells Doris JE is divorced as she holds up a hideous charmeuse dress to check her “luke”. She is making her plans.
JE and Angel are having a romantic walk in the woods as Elena calls with whatever the bank news is.
Bruno tells Romina Misael wants to see her pronto. She leaves as he rifles through the papers on her desk. What is it she asks. Misael asks if Luciano is a good friend of JE. Does he ask her if she discussed their business with him? Whatever he sneered, he stands up and goes up to her menacingly.
Bruno has Romina’s pocketbook but we don’t see what he’s smirking about.
Mau confronts Monica…she continues to insult him not knowing he has the upper hand. He blames her for the years he spent in jail. She mentions extortion…He says Misael was the one who committed the fraud.
Although I didn’t understand what he said, Misael starts to choke Romina and actually threatens her children!!
When Mau tells Monica he has proof of the embezzlement, the gravity of her situation finally dawns on her. If she doesn’t pay up, both she and Misael are going to jail!
Diana
Thank you for your kind words SpanProf which are very appreciated.
What an excellent question you asked.
I believe that if the parentage is what we believe it to be at this point, Rebeca is a first cousin to both Misael and JR.
Therefore, I think Rebeca could marry Misael. Or JR.
I welcome comments if I am wrong here.
Diana
Diana, oh my , thank you for bringing us every moment of that episode ...which was...A lot.
Where to begin ??? Well, let's start with the remarkable prestochangeo JE ( Jekyll Emerging ) ...can Mr. Hyde be far behind ? All lovey dovey so in love . yeah.. no.
Wow , even after seeing the big smooch that Amazonian Refrida put on poor, delicate , little JE , Angel has, for some reason, decided to forgive and forget ( why???how???) Then, we are suddenly glamping by the old waterfall . wow.
Doris is the epitome of bad taste in so many embarrassing ways .
Mau is at his weasely, smirking best snooping around the mansion, and lucky duck finds THE FOLDER . It is always satisfying to see the villains threatening each other. Who's zooming whom ?
Romina, you are in trouble .
Susan
Susan, "we are suddenly glamping by the old waterfall" cracked me up!
I liked ("weasely") Mau turning the tables on Monica, as you noted "who's zooming whom?"
Yes, we've had almost two full days of Dr. Jekyll, I think you are right, Mr. Hyde isn't far behind!
Diana
That silver dress that Doris gave Refrida had a weird triangle on the front with the word " Guess." I doubt have to guess about how Refrida will look in that dress.
Susan
SpanProf, thank you very much....
I thought the loan was approved but wasn't sure, thank you for filling that in.
It seems JE was invited to the dinner as he was there but took a powder to find Angel. Was Rebeca in charge of the guest list? It seemed neither Angel or Elena were invited.
I wonder if Rebeca will be the catalyst to break up JE and Angel or if JE will accomplish that all on his own. I sadly expect it sooner rather than later.
Diana
Susan, thanks for ID'ing the dress logo! It looked familiar but I couldn't make out what it said!!
Diana
Gracias, Diana. "Next, Romina shows up at JE’s with THE folder, saying she needs to see him. So does she leave with the folder, no, she LEAVES it with the housekeeper." -- This TN is driving me nuts with these crazy moves.
Monica versus Mauricio. Nice to see somebody put fear into Monica, but Mauricio is just as loathesome as she is. When will the good guys wake up?
Niecie, yes, so much here strains credulity, doesn't it???
I agree Mau is definitely as "loathesome" as Monica but have to admit I enjoyed seeing her a bit worried without her trademark smirk.
Time for Misael to plan another murder???
Diana
Thanks so much, Diana. Another really great recap. Loved Monica's "forked tongue".
What Mati brought Lucas was a choice between "sweet" or "salty". I almost liked her during her time with Lucas. But I fear Brayan isn't done trying to get him to be the new "hacker" to replace Ramiro, who was bumped off by Misael bribing someone to do it.
Monica...unwanted barnacle...perfect!
Adolfo flat out told Cris he was jealous of Mau moving in with her. She told him and, more forcefully, told Fatima that he was there because she pitied him and because he was her children's father. NO WAY is she taking him back as a husband.
The business with the bank is that the mortgage on Elena's house was granted. Theoretically, they can now pay off Monica and own the restaurant outright again. Santiago's threats would probably make Monica take the offer, but I'm not sure Refrida won't figure out a way to gum up the works.
The title of the episode was El Manantiel (spring, or moving stream). And, yes, apparently the running water shown leads to the pool where they've swum before.
I can't see how Misael survives this novela. He had some remorse over killing his first cousin, but he's arranged the hit on Ramiro and just threatened Romina with killing her children if she doesn't stay in line. Is there one of those high cliffs around that SO come in handy when it's time to bring an end to a villain?
How could Refrida fit in Angelli's dress that she bought at that charity sale or whatever it was. She outweighs Angelli by 15 pounds.
I was relieved to see they spared us Refrida's announcement of the "blessed event", but I think she planned to break the news at Cris's birthday party, which I guess hasn't happened yet. The timing of things in this show is very confusing. I thought the party might have been underway when Cris announced her savior, Refrida, was invited. But they alluded to the party tonight when J.E. said he wanted to announce their reconciliation there. Oh boy, I expect a train wreck.
Thanks, Diana, for another great recap. This show can be confusing at times, at least for me, and I really need the help.
And thank goodness for all those people growing roses in Mexico! But they must have a hard time keeping up with the demand from telenovelas for their romantic couplings.
Mati and Lucas were cute together, but we probably have not seen the last of Brayan and his gang. Lots of bad people still to be heard from. Mauricio surprises me. He seems to be just fine and comfortable anywhere, snooping and eavesdropping, and reading other people's letters and contracts. I suppose he is a bad guy, but I was hoping...
What was it he said? Killing silently? I suppose they give classes in the reclusorio.
JE has not read what Romina left him in THE envelope, but Mauricio certainly has.
He and Monica, if they did work together, would be quite terrible. She may just have to. And Misael is now completely gone over to the dark side. Was Romina really frightened when he threatened her kids? Probably. Not being much involved with them is one thing, having them threatened is another.
So what will happen tonight? Refrida announces that she is preggers? Should be interesting to see how JE and Misael react. And maybe a few others.
Oops! I forgot about Gabriela! Seems like everybody else in the novela forgot about her too. Give the best years of your life to the company and what does it get you?
Except I think maybe don Emilio may remember her and believe in her. The old guy seems to be about the only one in this story with a functioning brain, and his is not functioning perfectly at the moment. But before the novela closes I'm sure he'll be back.
Andy
Thanks, Diana. You never disappoint, and this episode was quite busy.
Here is some minutia I noted.
The swanky soirée is the Cena de Empresarios de Mexico. When Armando is trying to gain entry, he drops the name Corcuera. This name is often used in telenovelas as the crème de la crème of high society, but they are seldom seen.
Doris acted the complete fool at Del Olmo Restaurante. After being seated, she overheated and rubbed both arms with an ice cube (who does that?!!) - embarrassing Iker. A further attempt at cooling down resulted in a wardrobe malfunction, a broken glass, and the tablecloth being used to cover las nenas. This lowbrow slapstick was cringe, but it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.
As Armando grouses about not being able to join the ranks of the elite businessmen, we hear notes of “Habanera” from Bizet’s opera “Carmen.”
How common is the waterfall/swimming spot/Inspiration Point for the main characters in telenovelas? I believe our obtuse galán had a similar (if not exact same) spot in Perdona Nurstros Pecados. Time to add that to our bingo cards.
When Rebecca is borrowing Doris’ bootleg Guess tarp, she shares that she’ll be dropping the baby bombshell “hoy mismo” at Cris’ birthday party. Doris worries that Mauricio may make problems since they got off on the wrong foot. Rebecca says if he were, he would have already said something. Besides, JE doesn’t get along with him. Nothing better get in her way.
When Mauricio tells Mónica he’ll need an advance, she quips, “Were you released from prison or an insane asylum?” That made me chuckle. Oh but her tune changed when he lets her know he knows she and Rebecca are in cahoots (the fake kidnapping) and Misael is the real fraudster.
Other statistics from this episode:
0 - number of fake Mauricio coughs.
0 - number of wrong conclusions jumped to by JE.
0 - blood relation: Rebecca’s sister is married to JE;; hence, he is Rebecca’s cuñado and Misael is her cousin-in-law. Right?
0 - chance of redemption: Misael for hostile work environment and threatening minors.
Thank you Diana, for another spectacular recap! The patio was humming yesterday!!
Doris is tacky and all that, but her slap stick actually did make me laugh! I think because the tone was so different than the rest of the show, it felt like a break in the tension! I was sorry to see Jimena so affected by seeing them there though.
As O.S. pointed out last night's shindig was for businessmen and tonight is Cris's birthday. JE actually thought it good that he leaves so that the spotlight would be on DE and he wouldn't be a distraction as the new pres. I believe DE was one of the men being honored.
Most of the things I was going to comment on where so well covered so I'll try to give a quick family run down for SpanProf.
Don Emillio has two daughters - Monica and Cristina.
Monica is married to Aldolfo and has one son Misael, who is cousin to JE, Fatima, and Dulce.
Cris is/was married to Mauricio and has three children. JE, Fatima and Dulce. Dulce was killed at the beginning of the story. She was pregnant when she was killed. Sebastian (not to be confused with Santiago) was Dulce's husband and is JE and Fatima's brother in law.
Elena is Angel's mother. She was married to Christian de la Campa (forgot the character name! lol) and they had three children. Frida, Angelli and Santiago. Christian was killed in the beginning trying to rescue Frida from kidnapping and Frida was lost to Elena as well.
Rebeca is Frida (dubbed Refrida by Susan IIRC), sister to Angel and Santi, long lost daughter of Elena. She knows it but she hates her sister because she stole everything from her (in her mind) and hates her mother because she feels she preferred Angel and just forgot about her. She doesn't seem to be particularly concerned with the fact that she has a brother at all. Refrida isn't related to JE or Misael at all by blood but she is JE's sister-in-law as someone pointed out.
Alma is a kidnapper but she is also somehow accepted as Refrida's other mom. She isn't the person who originally kidnapped Frida, but those people died and Alma and her husband Antonio found Frida and just kept her. Naming her Rebeca after the daughter Alma had just lost in childbirth.
Also notable, Frida already hated Angel before the kidnapping. As a four year old child she was already jealous of her little sister stealing her attention, and already blaming Angel for taking her parent’s attention. She was already convinced mommy loved Angel more than her. And now it’s as if the adult Frida took the memories and feelings of the four year old child as gospel truth and she is responding as if it’s still happening. This chick is seriously delusional!
Thank you so much Novelera!
"The business with the bank is that the mortgage on Elena's house was granted. Theoretically, they can now pay off Monica and own the restaurant outright again". Thank you. I keep thinking would have, could have, should have but agree with your insightful comment that Refrida is somehow going to keep this from happening.
Misael's blood has indeed gone cold. "Is there one of those high cliffs around that SO come in handy when it's time to bring an end to a villain?" Love it! That would indeed be the perfect end for him.
I am smiling at your comments on THE dress. Angel is tiny in both proportion and stature. There is no way her dress would have ever fit Refrida who is neither.
I so appreciate your support and kind comments Novelera!
Diana
Andy, thank you very much...
I always learn so much from your wise and insightful comments.
"Mauricio surprises me. He seems to be just fine and comfortable anywhere, snooping and eavesdropping, and reading other people's letters and contracts" had me smiling and captured his aura perfectly. "Killing silently" was very interesting.
"Oops! I forgot about Gabriela! Seems like everybody else in the novela forgot about her too" is exactly right. Does Don Emilio even know she is in jail? I am counting on him to come to her defense and can't see him allowing her to languish in jail.
Yes, more drama tonight. Everything is piling on...
Diana
O.S., thank you so much. I appreciate all that you added in such fine style.
I laughed out loud at your description of Doris' foray into fine dining. "This lowbrow slapstick was cringe, but it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy". Exactly!!
"When Rebecca is borrowing Doris’ bootleg Guess tarp, she shares that she’ll be dropping the baby bombshell “hoy mismo” at Cris’ birthday party". A very important (and wry) nugget. Thank you, now I have some idea of what to expect tonight. I hadn't realized how much I miss the previews, brief though they are.
"Were you released from prison or an insane asylum?” IS a great line and classic Monica. Thank you for sharing!
The stats were great!
Diana
Thank you for your kind words Darcy. You are always so uplifting.
The patio IS indeed on fire and I am so appreciative and grateful for everyone's marvelous observations. Together, we've been able to thread the needle and create a complete, rich tapestry of events...
"As O.S. pointed out last night's shindig was for businessmen and tonight is Cris's birthday" provides a much appreciated timeline. I will need to be on high alert.
I enjoyed Doris' little adventure and savored every second of Icky's discomfort!
Thank you for summarizing who is who here. As always, you did a stellar job and it was a great refresher.
Diana
Regarding a fitting ending ( anvil) for Misael , the cliffs above the love grotto might be just the perfect spot for Misael to take a fatal plunge hopefully not when JE and Angelbaby are frolicking in the water .
I must admit that I am looking forward to seeing Refrida in that dreadful silver Guess Dress . No guessing necessary ...It's going to be ......fill in the blank .
You have to give Mau credit for winning the " absolutely no shame " contest as he quietly hunkers down in the mansion of luxury again. " Dont mind me. Ill just sit here in the corner and observe ." I think he has to keep reminding himself about that cough. He is a grifter skulking around trying to smell out the current grift that Monica is pulling . I think he might play cat and mouse with Refrida, and she will not like being the mouse in this new game .
I need Brayon to keep harassing RefRida.
Susan
Thanks so much, Diana. That was great. Am I the only one that would prefer walls around my bed. They might have thought it romantic but I would be wondering who’s watching from behind a tree!
I love the shameful character, Mauricio. He sneaks around eavesdropping and finding out all the dirt. And will use it to make himself some money. I figure he’ll only be able to do this to the bad guys, so that’s ok. I find him a bit of comic relief.
I thought the business dinner was in the restaurant, and maybe was a private room. Although I guess Icky could have been invited. All the more embarrassing for him. But it was funny.
I’m pretty sure our loving couple won’t last but will a pregnancy announcement really make JE marry Rebeca? I can’t even imagine his mother backing that marriage, even though she likes Rebeca. She’s not a good judge of character.
If Brayan finds out Lucas has a girlfriend Mati will be in danger. Lucas just needs to report them.
Liz
Liz, thanks so much.
I'm with you on the walls around the bed! Call me old fashioned but I like my privacy.
Today's episode just aired so I will wait until you see it before I comment as to whether or not I think JE and Rebeca will marry.
Great question as to how Chis will react if that happens!!
Diana
