TU VIDA #71 - Part 1/3
All the usual disclaimers apply here…..scenes combined, some left out , typos, bad translations, and our story keeps on truckin’.
PEPE tells MAL for the umpteenth time, “… we are never, ever, ever, ever getting back together
Like, ever”, (thank you Taylor Swift) that he LOVES Paula, and Mal says she respects that decision but her fingers are probably behind her back and crossed.
RAFA is absolutely gobsmacked to see Zaida. He’s not a happy camper that she’s back in town and does. not. want. her. near. Andrea. Lorenzo needs a B&W striped shirt and whistle while he referees this verbal brawl. Oh, wait, now Rafa is mad at Lor for getting in the middle of this. Lor says he promised Andi --- his nieta --- to help, and he IS going to help Zaida. Oh BTW, Zaida now wants to call herself Sofia for her new start in life.
RAFA asks ZaiSo what she wants, so he can give it to her and get her the heck out of Dodge. More arguing. She thinks Rafa is afraid, because he has hidden the truth all these 15 years from Andrea. (and she is sooo riiight!) Not one call or visit, you forgot me as if I never existed, but here I am and I want to see my hija! (You go, girl!)
Lor tells Rafa that Zaida wants to be called Sofía. Raf can’t believe Lor is helping This Woman!!! Lor points out, correctly, that Andi has a right to know her mother and to know she was not abandoned because her mom didn’t love her and that her mom left but never stopped loving her. Rafa counters saying that Zaida slept with her book to advance her career! Rafa conveniently forgets he was knocking boots with his own brother’s wife for two years, but there it is. Lor says give her a chance and try to understand and learn what Zaida has gone through for 15 years.
THERE’S HOPE FOR RAFA’s brain cells! ---- He goes to see Malena. Confirming with her that she and Zaida were besties (yep), Rafa says --- “YOU told me Zaida was the lover of this guy she killed in cold blood”. Mal says she doesn’t really remember much about all that while avoiding eye contact and walking away, and asks ‘what does this have to do with anything?’ Rafa drops his bomb: Zaida is out of jail and back in town. Mal looks …. concerned. Rafa said Zaida is mad as all get-out and Mal is looking distracted by her paperwork, like she doesn’t want to hear any of this.
RAFA asks Malena if the story she told him, that “Zaida was her boss’s lover and she killed him because he couldn’t “cumplir” (I know one meaning of ‘cumplir’ and not worth killing a man over, so is there another one?) and IS THIS TRUE?
So Mal being Mal, she aks Rafa “NOW you don’t trust me?” (Well, it's Mal, so why should he?) Mal says---“ that’s what Zaida told her, and she was very happy with that lover, and I don’t remember much, but when he told her to leave (wanted to break up?), then she killed him.”
Rafa says Lorenzo told him that is not how it all went down. Mal tries to plant some doubt in Zaida’s version.
Rafa vows to get to the bottom of this, to find out the truth and asks if Mal is going to stick to her version of the story. (this could get interesting)

PAULA is on the phone with Catalina (one of Nat’s minions) who tells Paula that her investors are worried about Paula’s ability to run the company and the company in general. (And this part I’m not sure I got right,,,,they’re worried about this new cancer foundation she is starting? That makes no sense so I must have misunderstood….someone please correct me on this?) Paula tells Cat that if the board doesn’t like it, they can take a hike. Quit. And Catty Catalina abruptly ends the convo.
Next we see Paula struggling with everything in her life. She tells Lor that Catalina called, the board wants to fire her (Paula) and she’s enraged. Lor says just focus on your health. That’s your job right now. (And, personally, I’d like to see Paula have a telenovela miracle recovery, go to the office, kick butt and take names.) Anyway, Paula is an emotional hot mess, Lor tries to comfort her, and I’m done with this scene. #more of the same
TEEN ANGST and other problems --- Arturo’s friends are teasing him because teenage boys are the worst, so he stops Andi as she walks by with Lucia, and delivers a massive lip lock while Diego sees it from afar. Later that night, Andi remembers El Beso and sends a text to Art, “is everything OK?” I think he says yep and then … crickets ….. while at the same time, Diego is home doing sit-ups to work off his frustration.
Luci tells Pepe she still love Emi but having a relationship with him is not worth it; too many problems what with his mom dying and his drinking problem. And besides, every relations8ip I’ve seen around here is/was totally dysfunctional and ends badly. Pepe tries to support her and sounds like he is telling her to hang in there, even with Emi, and assures her he’s always here for her if she needs to talk.
WORLD’S SHORTEST BREAK-UP, EVER. PAULEPE have reunited! Lots of Te amo’s and besos and I’m, like, juarever…..

PAULA later has a counseling session with ZaiSo. ( I’m starting to believe that Zaida is the *only* sane person in this telenovela.) In short, she tells Paula to forgive herself for working 7/24 after German died and she neglected her kids. Does a lot of other supportive counseling and reminds her that she doesn’t have to do this alone; hope is what keeps us going.
AT THE RESTAURANT --- apparently Natalia owns the land but not the building and business that sits on it, which seems odd to me, but what do I know? Alex tells everyone they’re not going to rebuild the restaurant because it’s too expensive and they don’t have the money. ISA gives a nice speech about all the years they’ve worked together, we all feel like family but Alex and I have reviewed this and the beautiful dream is over. We’re closing. We can’t go on. Everyone is sad and has a group hug.
MIGHTY LOR TO THE RESCUE! Later, Lorenzo can’t believe they’re closing the restaurant. He tells Isa that he’ll buy the land and give it back to them, and he and Isa can re-open the restaurant as partners. Next!
ON THE DOCK AT THE LAKE --- Arturo thanks Diego for coming and asks Diego to forgive him. Diego doesn’t want his apology. Art knows he did wrong by Andi but he didn’t do it to show he’s a macho alpha guy or a leader; he did it because he was scared. He’s been scared all along because of what he feels for Diego. (Nobody on The Patio is surprised by this admission.)
PAULA & ROLANDO -- Later on, Paula is trying to reach Natalia when Rolando just walks into her house like he owns it. She tells him for the 238th time that she doesn’t appreciate his coming and going whenever he feels like it…it’s MY house! But while you’re here, do you know anything about Natalia? Things are happening at the office and I need to talk with her.
Rolando and she have the same old discussion about his court order controlling her assets, rights, freedom, etc., . All Rol cares about is did she end things with Pepe? Well, of course not, and Pepe walks in halfway thru this discussion. Paula says she is no longer crazy (???) but that she went crazy due to a profound love that makes her very happy, (We see Rol doing a mental eye-roll) a love that makes her feel alive, and she will never let him go, jamás. And Paula looks like she is going to pass out.

I've run out of patience waiting for Paula's miracle cure, surgery, whatevs, for her to get well. She and Pepe have so many issues to tackle and they need all her physical and mental strength. I want Paula to run roughshod over Gnat...

Did she testify and if so, was it a contributing factor in convicting Zaida? Were Rafa and Zaida happy until then??

I'm a bit frustrated now because my episode didn't have the 'don't beat yourself up for working after German died' part. I had a suspicion something got cut.
Rafa wasn't any smarter when younger. He just bought Malena's story and abandoned his wife. If he had loved her even a bit, why didn't he try to at least hear her out? I mean, I can't imagine not being curious. And why did Malena do this? She didn't get with Rafa till much later so was this just so she could torture her 'friend' and him?
I don't get the point of that break-up. Such a waste of airtime. It didn't provide even a good bit of drama because I didn't care about it enough.
I wonder how Malena deletes the files from her brain that have all those conversations where Pepe tells her it's over. She still seems to think she has a chance. But there's no way she could pretend to care about her kids for long even if they did get back together.Both her and Ginevra from receta baffle me with their insistence that things will be as they want when they themselves are the ones likely to messthose things up.
This whole Lucia and Emiliano plot is weird. Do the writers honestly want to make me believe that a young girl should stay with an alcoholic who doesn't think he is one? It's interesting that adults usually tell other adults to, for instance, leave a person suffering from depression so as not to suffer along with that person. But Lucia's father doesn't tell her anything that would be of use. I honestly have no idea how she could stay with him when she clearly has no idea what to do.

And he takes Lor’s money and hands it over to Nat but somehow feels he has the right to yell at Lor. I was hoping Lor would knock him senseless. I like Rafa less and less with each episode.

I am sure that MAL was the lover who killed the boss , and MAL somehow framed Zaida while Rafa just stood by useless and oblivious.
