Venganza #29 part 1

Marcelo says he was bored there, Francisco was his only friend, meanwhile Francisco has his old friends, etc.

Paty is showing off her new car to Fermin and Erika. They wonder how she could afford it.
Roberto looks less than thrilled to have Alonso helping him in the finance department.
Sebas, Moni, Tania and Elisa discuss her divorce wondering how that will go at the office. She admits she is attracted to Emilio. Sebas and Moni are surprised, and maybe happy for her.

Roberto thinks Alonso could be in trouble with the law for taking the sex video with Tania without her consent and posting it on line. Then Alonso says he hopes to be consoled by the beauteous Fernanda. Roberto tells him he has no chance with her.
Paty is still trying to weedle Ana's whereabouts out of Erika and Fermin, but no luck.

Erika says they saw him when he came to see his grandma but she was dead. Fernanda wants his address, etc.

Fernanda tells Elisa Ana is alive, she saw her in the street but she ran off.
Adelberto and Beltran discuss sand, a necessary component of construction. He says they have had to get it on the contraband market. Emilio shows up. Beltran and Emilio are formally introduced.
Fern tells Elisa more about Ana, then says she is sure Francisco took her from the clinic. I think she alluded that he is behind her being in a club with drugs and prostitutes.

More business talk with Adelberto, Frank and Beltran
Fern tells Elisa it's her fault that Francisco ran away. She advised him to leave so he wouldn't go to jail. She says if Frank comes back she will support their relationship.

OT tried reposing part 1of episode #29 on this page but it keeps disappearing. Hopefully Juanita or Novelera can retrieve it and have it go in the right place.

Of venganza. Forgot to mention that.

Kat, I've just now seen your message and have restored Part 1 of the Venganza 29 recap (above).

Thank you. I didn't realize it was missing until I read Steve's comment referencing my short recap. Part 1 was not short ...

fam2

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I'll try to get a Wednesday recap up sometime today. I'll have a Friday recap up sometime over the weekend.

fam2 #25 part 1 highlights

As predicted by everyone, Eko saves Yagmur. He holds her and she cries, nobody wants me, nobody loves me…waaah! Eko declares, I love you very much! Forgive me.

Aslan hops into Cihan’s car. I read the letter, he says sadly, at least you were able to fulfill one of his wishes. I won’t be able to. Cihan asks, what did he write? Get out of the mud, Aslan replies, you’re the only one who can clean this up. He adds, it’s too late, Dad Aslan puts his arm around Cihan’s shoulder—be careful. Cihan nods in return, my dear brother.

Song: “Iyi Değilim” I’m Not Well - Azer Bülbül
YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOXno_bldUQ

Hulya finds Devin in the study, she’s been reading the “script”. Devin threatens to out them at the police interview. Aslan walks into their shouting match. Devin shouts at him, you and your mom tried to drive me crazy, and you did it! She leaves the room. Hulya tells Aslan that Devin is going to snitch. Go ask your wife.

Aslan follows Devin into the bedroom, and she continues to rant and rave. [what is it with these Akin girls? They get on my nerves with this yelling.] She locks herself in the bathroom and throws stuff around. Then she pukes up all that rakı she drank at dinner. She collapses on the floor. She won’t let him in. She threatens to tell all and then walk away forever. [I don’t believe her, do you?]

Song: “Serseri” Lowlife or Tramp – Cem Pilevneli
YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_d_XhmmlBQ

Cemre has come to give Seher her shot. Leyla walks her out and reminds her she has a hospital appointment tomorrow at 4p. Leyla walks away and Tolga approaches Cemre. He wants to know what she and Leyla whisper about. He tries to intimidate her, but she pushes him out of the way.

Ilyas calls Hulya—did you make your choice? Tomorrow may be too late for everyone.

Edit: Hulya goes into sleeping Seher’s room and tucks her in. She picks up Seher’s photo album. She runs her finger over a photo of young Aslan and Cihan with Yusuf. Then she hugs the album close. Tears fall. [wow, she is human after all.]

Kiymet is making “ölü helvası” - halva for the dead, in memory of Serhat. May God accept it, Ilyas says. Amen, Kiymet replies. They will distribute this. Ilyas says, your grandson will have a farewell worthy of him. Kiymet replies, worthy? We only have a thumb. [that’s about how much Serhat was worth.] May we always remember this pain and hatred. I’ll make sure those who did this will pay, Ilyas says.

Gokhan has a bomb planted in the Soykan’s car. It will be delivered in the morning.

The police arrive for the interview. Everyone is there except Devin. The Soykans stick to the script while Devin agonizes in her room. She calls Ilkay for advice. I can either leave Aslan forever or stay with him forever. He says she already knows his opinion.

Devin laments that Aslan has been trying to get away from the mafia, but he failed. We see a flashback. Devin found Aslan’s letter and read it. Devin says, if it wasn’t for me, Aslan would have been able to do what was in the letter. Everything started when I came into their lives. I don’t know what to do, she cries.

Ilkay tells her she’s being emotionally blackmailed. They’d be going through things like this even without you. You’re not the only one to blame, he says, this isn’t the average family. Do you love this man that much? Can you live without him? This isn’t easy for Devin to answer.

The cop asks to speak with Devin. Glances shoot around the room. Aslan is about to make excuses, but Devin shows up. And surprise (not)… she follows the family’s line. When it’s over, she holds out her hand to Aslan.

The sabotaged car is delivered. The family gets ready to go to the cemetery.

Aysel is ready to go to the cemetery with Cihan. He got permission from Huyla.

fam2 #25 part 2 highlights

Hulya looks at Yusuf’s things. She focuses on his tesbih (rosary). She thinks back to a convo. Yusuf starts, don’t get upset, Hulya. She worries, it sounds like you’re saying goodbye. I’ve shouldered this sin for years, he replies. Me too, Hulya answers, don’t you think we’ve done enough to atone for it? He doesn’t agree. He says he mentions it in his will. Yusuf continues, don’t let my sons bow their heads to anyone. [Turkish] They are first entrusted to the Almighty and then to you! End flashback.

Hulya looks at the pic she took from the photo album. She calls Ilyas and tells him she won’t choose. My children are first entrusted to the Almighty and then entrusted to me. You should be careful.

The family gathers to go to the cemetery. Hulya, Aslan, and Devin get in the car bomb. We get a voice over of Ilyas’ threats.

We see Ilyas and Kiymet at the cemetery. People are giving their condolences.

The Soykans arrive. There are people already there praying al Fatiha for Yusuf. Aslan says to let them stay, the family will pray after they leave.

Gokhan tells Ilyas the Soykans and the car bomb are at the cemetery. A henchie sends a photo of the Soykans at the grave.

Turgut gets a call from Sipsi. The family is finished with the prayers and head back to their cars. Turgut hurries over to Aslan with the info. Ilyas had someone follow Devin and Hulya’s car yesterday. Ibo and Hulya visited Ilyas. Aslan is alarmed.

Ilyas gives the word to blow up the car at the right moment.

Aslan calls out to his mother, and he starts in about her going to see Ilyas. The others try to calm him down. This isn’t the place. Hulya admits they were followed by Gokhan, and they had a little accident. They didn’t tell him so he wouldn’t worry. The car was repaired and we got it back today. Aslan shouts, the car is here?!

Everyone looks at the car. Aysel is standing close to it. The car explodes.

Looks like Aysel is the only one seriously hurt. Devin and Cihan are by her side as she’s wheeled into the ER. She repeats, my baby… my baby. Cihan promises she and the baby will be okay. Aslan comforts his brother—she will be alright.

Devin surveys the ER. The rest of the family are treated for minor injuries. She has a cut to her hand.

Aslan wanders away and mutters, I couldn’t protect my family, damn it. Isko and Turgut find him. Isko asks, what do we do now? He answers, I want Ilyas dead! Understand?

Ilyas calls Hulya and asks about her choice again. Your son or your adopted son? She’s adamant, I won’t give you either of my sons! He asks, so… you want to continue like this?

Hulya goes to touch that pendant she wears but it’s missing. Ibo sits next to her. Was that Ilyas on the phone? He won’t stop. We have to protect the family. If need be, those who don’t belong to the family… Hulya interrupts—stop right there, Ibo! Devin is eavesdropping. Hulya continues, I didn’t give birth to him, but I’m still his mother! Giving birth isn’t the only thing that makes a mother! Devin is shocked.

Gokhan tells Ilyas that Eko was dating Yagmur, so he’s involved. Ilyas calls his henchie, Salih. Are you at the location. Yes. Ekrem was dating the girl. Go after him. We see Eko and Yagmur get into his car. Salih follows them.

Hulya tells Ibo to meet with Yusuf’s men to stop Ilyas, otherwise we will lose this war. He agrees, but he asks, what happens if we lose this war? What if you have to choose one of them? Who would you choose… Cihan or Aslan? She replies, I won’t choose my son or my adopted son. Don’t ask me again.

She goes to touch her pendant again. He pulls the pendant from his pocket and dangles it in front of her and says, but I want a place at the table.

And we are out.

fam2

Gracias, Dondi. Your recaps are always a treat. I love the snark "Kiymet replies, worthy? We only have a thumb. [that’s about how much Serhat was worth.]"

It warmed my heart to see that Hulya loves Cihan (well, like a son you kick to the curb but won't stand for anyone else to harm him).

fam2

Dondi, thank you for a spectacular recap.

This show just gets darker and darker . An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.

Susan

fam2.

Hey...I forgot to mention that I give all our great recappers a " thumbs up" for their excellent recaps . ( See what I did there? ). Susan , providing a bit of comic relief.

fam2

Thanks a million for the holiday recap, dondi. Sounds like you were in the kitchen as well. I hosted my family, insisted on leaving the dishes in the sink and on the countertops so we could relax. We had a fun time watching that new Beetlejuice sequel and laughing at all the things we remembered from the first one. Well, my granddaughter helped out with things I'd forgotten.

I also loved "that's how much Serhat was worth".

That whole car sequence confused me. I can't tell these black, rich people cars apart at all. I do remember Hulya ordering some underling to get the car repaired when she and Devin walked away to the waiting car. But I thought the car being repaired was the one Goykan drove and that needed repairs to the front end from rearending the Soykan vehicle. So, the mechanic the Soykans trusted for repairs was bribed or threatened to allow the bomb placement? Will we get a flashback explaining how that happened?

I fully expected Hulya to tell Ilyas she chose Cihan. But she went up about 20 degrees in my estimation by refusing to allow either man to be killed. Are we going to see redemption?

And when, oh when, will we see Ayda Aksel, Azize in Hercai?

Please, please, don't let Ilyas' guys get Eko and/or Yagmur!

fam2

Thanks VERY much, dondi, for giving us all something else to be thankful for: your wonderful recap, complete with humor to lighten the grim story line. I loved your impatience with Yagmur, especially "nobody loves me...waaah!" And, of course, "We only have a thumb. [that’s about how much Serhat was worth.]"

I've watched so many telenovelas where when a woman of childbearing age vomits, it almost always means she's pregnant. Hence, when Devin threw up, my first thought was "Oh my God, is she pregnant?" Your explanation that she just had too much to drink makes more sense, but I still find myself wondering.

I'm not sure why Devin says, "if it wasn’t for me, Aslan would have been able to do what was in the letter." In what way did her presence prevent Aslan from doing what was in the letter? It's true that he failed, but why would Devin think she's to blame?

I'm also confused about the car and the bombing. I don't think the car she was in the day before (with Hulya) was the car we saw the next day with the planted bomb. Also, I was not sure what Ilyas meant when he "gives the word to blow up the car at the right moment." Is blowing it up when no member of the family is near enough to be hurt "the right moment"? I'm pretty sure that neither Ilyas nor his thugs know that Aysel is pregnant with Cihan's child.

I confess that I was glad when Aslan tells his friends/thugs that he wants Ilyas dead. I do, too!

Am I the only one who still doesn't know which son is adopted?

Sorry to bombard you with questions, dondi. Please feel free to ignore tham. You shouldn't be punished for your wonderful generosity and expertise!

fam2

Thanks, everyone, for taking time to read and comment on this very busy holiday week. So, before I head back to the kitchen to make the soup and pot pies…

I don’t claim to have all the answers. I have my speculations and crockpot theories like the rest. I like to check the original episodes for edits, changes to dialog, or bad translations. Sometimes the clarifications are there. Unfortunately, I didn’t have much time to check this week.

“That whole car sequence confused me.” It was a bit hard to follow, novelera. I think there might have been small edits around that. But Hulya wanted the car repaired and like you, I took it on faith (and tightened my beanie) that Gokhan interfered and ordered the bomb.

“I was not sure what Ilyas meant when he "gives the word to blow up the car at the right moment." Here’s my take, Juanita. Ilyas had someone watching the Soykans at the cemetery and I assumed this person would also detonate the bomb. Perhaps the right moment would be when people were near the cars. And remember, Aslan, Hulya and Devin rode in the bomb car. Aslan delayed this when he argued with Hulya. I think it was unlucky that Aysel was closest to the bomb. Cihan told her to stay back.

“"Oh my God, is she pregnant?" Of course, that crossed my mind, too. But we couldn’t be sure if it was a combo of liquor and anger that made her vomit. Remember she also vomited after seeing Buket’s murder. Pregnant? Maybe. We’ll see.

“In what way did her presence prevent Aslan from doing what was in the letter?” If Aslan didn’t meet and fall for Devin, he wouldn’t have been involved with Yagmur and her Serhat drama. Then there’s the Yagmur – Ceylan – Ati connection. Hulya has blamed the sisters multiple times. Devin feels guilty.

I hope they don’t stretch out this bio son v adopted son drama too much. It’s like gum, if we chew and stretch for too long, the gum loses its taste. “Am I the only one who still doesn't know which son is adopted?” You’re not the only one. I’m trying to figure it out, too. I go back and forth based on hints they drop.

“I fully expected Hulya to tell Ilyas she chose Cihan.” One would think so based on what we’ve seen. What is stopping her is that Yusuf entrusted their sons to her. That’s a big deal in dizis and I guess IRL.

When Hulya and Ibo spoke about the past on his boat, she talked about something that happened 45 years ago. On Tuesday’s ep they said 40 years ago. Then in an interview I think was edited out, Ibo says it happened “a half century ago”.

Edit: Ibo had a flashback. He was being interviewed by Ati for the documentary. Ati wanted to know more about his “kara sevda” – dark love. Why did it end? What did you do? [Kara sevda is a love that’s deep or intense. Could be tragic. If you saw the dizi “Kara Sevda” you know.] Ibo said sometimes it’s not what you do that determines your fate, but what you couldn’t do. Ati asks, what couldn’t you do? Ibo replies, it was something that happened a half century ago. It has nothing to do with birth or death. It’s only filled with regret. Ibo suddenly remembers this is being recorded and he goes ballistic and wants it erased.

“And when, oh when, will we see Ayda Aksel, Azize in Hercai?” I can’t wait for her to arrive!

I haven’t watched Friday yet. I’ll post something either late today or tomorrow. Thanks, again!

fam2

I'm always amazed at your fabulous recaps Dondi!

It's interesting watching this for the second time, it's really rich, and I'm now seeing the little things.

One of the things that keeps hitting me is what this story is about, "family". And a quote that showed up early in the story, "families do bad things but always with good intentions".

Ilyas' plan, as told to Aslan, is to hurt/kill those around Aslan first.

Gokhan did not have orders to harm anyone but was intentionally trying to damage Hulas' car to get it into the shop to plant the bomb. I don't think the bomb was meant to kill Aslan but when he called everyone else back from the car they took what they could get.

Ilyas' rein of terror is also being used to pressure Hulya into making a choice, it won't stop till she does.

What I think of when Devin talks about it being her fault (to prevent Aslan from doing what was in the letter) goes back to Serhat, when he was released from jail I think she wished he was dead, and when Aslan asked her "do some people deserve to be alive" , she said nothing, and so Aslan killed him.

and lately I've been noticing how people pull into the estate and park, then when they come back out, all of the cars are neatly parked, and pointed in the opposite direction, ready to go out.

fam2

Donde, thanks for a great recap that you somehow managed to fit in at this busy holiday time .

The turks are all about tragedy and suffering . Speaking of " Kara sevda",I think that I am almost at the end of " Amor Prohibition''. Uff. Lyrics from an old song are playing in my head " You're gone from me ..oh oh..tragedy."

Well, I need to cheer up, so I might have to finish the tasty tiramisu that our daughter made for Thanksgiving. Susan

fam2 OT Amor prohibido

Susan, I think this finally finished. I had watched it earlier. It is fascinating to contrast the two male leads played by the same actor, Behlul and Aslan. I was so frustrated with Behlul but also came to see Bihter as very selfish, like her awful mother. I still fault Behlul the most. He might have avoided the tragic ending with better choices. There were good characters in AP, and hopefully they were able to move on. But, what a train wreck of a viewing experience!

Aslan is more complex. I have come to hope for some sort of peaceful ending, after the imposed violence of their lives. He is caught in the role of family leader, but his mother is pulling many of the strings. I find Hulya both repelling and fascinating. I hope we get her full backstory. And, yes, I’m weary of the adoptive or biological debate. Aslan seems resigned to being his father’s heir. I like that he and Cihan are working together.

Buhlent just did what he wanted with no thought of where his choices might lead. At the end, he did seem to finally have developed self-awareness, but his life will always be shaded by his tragic past.

Just some thoughts.
Babachita

OT

Babachita, I appreciated your comments .Thanks for sharing your thoughts . I just watched the finale of Amor Prohibido. It was a tragic but remarkably told story of prohibited love and how it affects everyone in its orbit. Excellent performances, powerful storylines , and a look into Turkish customs and the upstairs downstairs of a wealthy household plus gorgeous sets, fashions , and jewels . Susan

OT
Susan, I was so caught up in Amor prohibido! I read that it was based on a famous book written about 1900, Aski Memnu. I was able to find an English translation online and waded into the original tale. It reminded me somewhat of other famous stories of that time, Anna Karenina and Madame Bovary. Because of the time in which it was written, the original story differed in many ways from the dizi, but there was still that view of the upper crust.
I really liked our version because of the upstairs-downstairs interplay that you mentioned.
I loved the homes, clothes, etc! It was a very engrossing tale! Speaking of Behlul/Aslan, another outstanding actor who played very different roles was Bihter/Fatmagul!

fam2

Thanks for your comments, deb. Especially the reminder that Devin did not answer Aslan's question "do some people deserve to live". She also squashed a bug. Yes, Ilyas is doing all he can to force Hulya into making a choice.

This dizi is good. I should have continued with the original airing in Turkey. I can't stand these edits.

lol, I noticed the parked cars, too.

Friday recap is on the way.

fam2

Donde, if you didn't notice, turkish version episode 13 is the end of season 1, so things get ramped up a bit.

fam2 #26 part 1

Devin stands outside the ER entrance. Aslan comes to her. They embrace. She tells him she won’t leave him, she can’t leave him. She begs, please don’t ask me to go. She whimpers, do I have to face Death every day just because I love you? Aslan apologizes for not being able to protect her. I promise this will end. I love you. He kisses her.

Hulya comes outside and Aslan immediately gets on her case. Why did you go out? Why did you go to Ilyas? She says she did it as a mother protecting her children. Aslan says he’ll see about that later and he walks away. I think he might mean that for Devin, too.

Aslan orders Turgut to have all their cars checked and increase security around the estate.

Isko brings news from Sipsi. Ilyas and Gokhan are back in the neighborhood. He asks, should we go after them? No, Aslan replies, you know what to do.

A doctor comes to get Aslan and says, we have a problem. It’s Cihan, who is trying to get in to see Aysel. Aslan pulls him away. Cihan asks his brother if they will take action. Aslan promises to do so.

Salih hears from an informant. There’s going to be a police raid on Ilyas’ neighborhood in 30 mins. He can’t get through to Ilyas so he calls Gokhan. It’s Aslan’s work, Ilyas says. The condolence visitors are asked to leave the house. Ilyas tells Gokhan they will have to leave the house, too.

Cemre draws Devin’s blood for a test. [Hmmm…] The results will be in later today.

Devin sees a cute little girl dressed in white. Devin bends down to talk to her. The girl moves her hand over Devin’s injury. Devin goes to kiss the girl’s hand, but she disappears. Yes, it’s weird.

Cemre runs into Leyla. She gives her a big hug, she heard what happened and was worried. Leyla tells her not to come for Seher anymore. It’s too dangerous to come to the estate. I can’t ask you to risk yourself, Leyla says, thank you for being by my side.

Sipsi calls Isko. The cops are here in the neighborhood. The car [with Gokhan and Ilyas] has left the house. Isko informs Aslan. The plan is for Aslan to intercept the car.

Devin contacts a worried Ayca. Cancel my appointments for the week. Ayca tells her all the patients have already canceled their appointments. They are scared for their safety. Devin tells Ayca to take the week off. Ayca tells Devin she’s quitting, she’s frightened too. Devin is very understanding.

Yagmur and Eko show up outside the hospital. Neither Yagmur nor Eko tell Devin what happened at the apartment. Eko says Devin’s car was checked and gives her the keys. Reporters flood the area and the three make a quick getaway in Devin’s car.

Isko and Turgut pull up along side of Gokhan. Isko reports to Aslan—Ilyas is not in the car. No matter to Aslan, he’ll get them one by one. They force Gokhan to take a specific direction at a fork in the road.

We see that Ilyas is in Salih’s car. He apologizes for the short notice on the raid. Ilyas isn’t bothered much by all this. Salih’s got a safe house ready for Ilyas.

Salih checks his messages. His man at the hospital says that Yagmur and Eko have left in Devin’s car. They are being followed.

Gokhan drives into a tunnel, and he’s headed off by a car. Another blocks him from behind. It’s Aslan and Cihan. Short gunfight and Gokhan is taken down. Cihan asks Gokhan, what did you want from our family? Your problem is with us [Aslan and Cihan]. I’m going to be a father! I was going to take my child to the park. I was going to be a normal guy. The Soykan brothers make swiss cheese out of Gokhan.

fam2 #26 part 2

Cihan gets a call. Aysel is out of surgery. The next hours are critical. Look at what we’ve become, Cihan says, just a week ago, I owned a kebab restaurant, and I was going to be a father. Yes brother, Aslan replies, we finally got it right and became our father’s sons.

Ilyas gets a message from Aslan. It’s a pic of dead Gokhan. We’re going to have to take a few more lives, Ilyas tells Salih, let’s turn back. We’ll take care of Aslan’s wife. Then find the person who told those bastards what we were doing in the neighborhood. I’ll tear his heart out with my bare hands!

Eko and Devin realize someone is following them. A second car starts to follow. Devin stops and gets out of the car to face the stalkers. Eko and Yagmur panic. Eko gets out. He’s ready to reach for his gun. Devin holds her hand out for him to stop.

A car moves forward. The window rolls down. It’s Ilyas. Devin has made a great move. She’s stopped in front of a police station. Ilyas says, give Hulya a message for me. The time has come. Ilyas departs.

Devin’s phone rings and she answers with annoyance. It’s Cemre. The test results are in… you’re three weeks pregnant. Devin is floored. That call is interrupted by an incoming one from Aslan. He asks if she left the hospital, and if she’s okay. Meet me at the house, she replies, I have something to tell you. He wants to know if something bad happened. No, but we need to talk, she answers.

Ilyas is impressed with Devin. She’s a lot like Hulya when she was younger, he says. You’d think she’d be a weak link but she’s like a rock. Ilyas wants to plant a spy among the Soykans. He’s looking for the Soykan’s weakest link. The obvious candidates—Tolga and Ibo.

Turgut and Isko bury Gokhan in the forest. Turgut mentions how Aslan and Cihan are working together. He brings up the rumors that Yusuf adopted a child. Isko replies, [Turkish] ah, and the world is flat… you believe this too? [LOL! what a bad translation! Isko did not say “heterosexuals”! His word, “düz” can mean flat or straight.]

Cihan and Hulya stand at the window of the ICU and watch Aysel. Hulya says, the next 48 hours are critical. Cihan replies, has anything in the last 40 years not been critical? She tells him not to lose hope. You know I lost it once, he says, now I’m losing it again.

Cihan continues, they say children pay for their parents’ sins. When he was drunk, Dad used to speak about someone he killed. Hulya asks, who? Cihan shakes his head, I didn’t believe it because Dad wouldn’t do that. I’d lie to myself and say he said it because he was drunk. I tried to forget it. But now, whenever something bad happens, I think back to that story. I wonder if he did it. I think I’m paying for what Dad did.

Hulya looks worried. She asks, what was it? What did your father do? Cihan replies, is it true that Dad killed a woman? That’s absurd, Hulya answers, we are talking about Yusuf Soykan. I never want to hear you say that again. Cihan shows her the sonogram. Look, this is my hope. Will he feel it if something happens? Will he get hurt because of me? Is this what happened to Dad?

Hulya tells her (adopted or bio?) son, nothing that happened is your fault. Your father didn’t suffer, and Aysel and your child will not suffer. What could I be atoning for, Cihan asks, what sin could make a bomb go off next to my unborn child? Hulya takes his hand. Cihan thanks her for her support.

fam2 #26 part 3

Isko and Turgut meet with Sipsi. Isko hands Sipsi an envelope full of lira. Sipsi notes it’s short. Isko says the info wasn’t that great. Gokhan was alone in the car. We want Ilyas next. He won’t return to that neighborhood. Find his new hideout and you’ll get the rest of the money.

Edit: Isko notes that Turgut is itching again. He asks, didn’t you see the doctor about that? What did he say? It was in my head, Turgut replies, I should see a psychologist. We know a psychologist, Isko answers. Ne dayıcığım, I won’t go, Turgut responds, why should I tell a stranger my personal business?

Edit: Hulya calls Ceylan to check on her. Ceylan complains she’s in a lot of pain. She asks, did you get the pills the doctor prescribed? Hulya says they gave her meds at the hospital. Are you an addict? Are you going to take pills every minute? Ceylan whines about the pain.

Ilyas calls Hulya—have you heard the news? Your sons killed my nephew, Gokhan. Listen closely, I asked you to choose among your sons and you refused. I’ll ask one last time, Aslan or Cihan? Choose and put an end to this. Your bio son or adopted son? No answer. Ilyas continues, ok, Hulya, something important will happen tonight. You’ll give me a name while you mourn! Hulya calls Ibo. Unavailable.

Seems like Ibo has lost out on a business deal. Salih comes to see Ibo. Your inner circle has made a decision. Ilyas Koruzade is right. He is strong and has broken the Soykans. I know you well. You were the brains and Yusuf was the brawn. That’s why you’re alive and he’s dead. I’m here to give you a chance. It’s what Ilyas wants. Ibo listens to the offer. The Soykan ship is sinking, Salih says, work for Ilyas. This is your last chance. Join or sink. There not much time to decide.

Nese has her bags packed and says she and her girls are leaving. Devin, Yagmur and Eko arrive. Nese tells Devin, we’re leaving, get your things. Where are we going, Devin asks. Nese says, what do you mean? We can’t stay here. Devin says she’s staying and tells someone to take Nese home and post a guard. Yagmur says she wants to stay at the estate. Nese starts an argument. Aslan drives up. What’s wrong, Nese Hanım? My girls and I are leaving, Nese replies.

Devin tells Aslan not to worry. She addresses her mother, I know you are struggling to understand, but I’m staying. You can go, you have no reason to stay. I have many reasons, my family is here. Nese gives in, okay, I hope your children don’t make you suffer like this. Nese leaves and Aslan comforts Devin.

Aslan turns to Eko. Is there anything you’d like to tell me? Eko tells him that Ilyas came after them today.

Isko and Turgut work on increasing security around the estate.

Turgut reads some online gossip about Hulya and her sons. Isko wants to know the website. He’s going to get rid of the article and the author. Ha, Turgut sticks up for freedom of the press. The people have a right to read. From the picture, Turgut notes that Hulya and Cihan have similar facial features. But who does Aslan look like? Isko warns him to stop thinking about genetics and start worrying about the staff at the estate.

Aslan wants the full account from Eko again. There must have been a man at the hospital, he starts. He knew when we left. They were able to find us. When Devin stopped at the police station, his (Ilyas) hands were tied. He could do nothing, so he left. Aslan is ticked—why didn’t you shoot? Eko responds, should I have started a shootout with Devin and Yagmur present? [not to mention in front of a police station?]

fam2 #26 part 4

Devin wants to have that pending conversation with Aslan, but he’s too consumed by the current threat. He promises her they will talk later. He asks her to leave and let him talk with Eko.

He asks Eko if anything else happened. Eko hesitates then says, he (Ilyas) said one more thing—tell Hulya the time has come. Hulya enters the house and Aslan calls out to her. Mother!

Devin walks down the hall. She hears Seher say, “so, you’re pregnant?” She peeks in Seher’s room. She’s knitting. Seher invites Devin in to sit.

Aslan and Hulya talk in the kitchen. Aslan has told her what happened to Devin. She pulled in front of a police station? How brave. Well done, son. You turned your wife into your clone. Aslan ignores that comment and says, he (Ilyas) had a message for you— “the time has come.” What does that mean? She claims she has no idea.

Aslan presses. What did you discuss with Ilyas? What did he say to you that day? We get the flashback: Ilyas says, I lost a son, and you will, too. Choose… Aslan or Cihan? Your bio son or your adopted son? End flash.

Hulya sticks to her story—Ilyas said nothing. Stop with this! I’m trying to protect you, Aslan replies, I’m trying to protect the family. Don’t you realize a war is coming? We don’t have the luxury of fighting amongst ourselves. We have to come together as a family. I’ll ask again… what did Ilyas say?

And we are out.

Hail to the victors!

Gracias, Dondi. You are a jewel to take the time over the Thanksgiving weekend. Your crime coverage - like "The Soykan brothers make swiss cheese out of Gokhan" - reminded me of Dashiell Hammett.

Totally realistic that Devin's patients and even Ayca would flee from her practice, but such a shame. Still, I don't see Devin leaving her profession. If she can treat Cihan, I suppose she can treat Turgut too.

Interesting that there's ancient gossip about Yusuf and Hulya adopting.

My fave scene was Devin taking charge and giving Ilyas a stare-down. But, ugh, he sees her as a young Hulya.

Dondi, you are a champion bringing us this recap on this back at holiday weekend . Thank you .

Who is Salih...a cop? The new characters popping up are confusing .

Didn't we have magical visions of children appearing and disappearing in Hercai. I guess we could call this magical realism .

Cemeteries play a big part in every dizi I have ever watched. Susan

Thanks so much, dondi, for yet another marvellous recap! And to manage to do it AND celebrate Thanksgiving--we're all in your debt.

So what's with Devin? She's beginning to act as if she's been raised and trained in the mafia. After watching her drive and keep her cool with Ilyas and his thugs, I wouldn't be all that surprpised to find that she's also a sharpshooter. Though there is the small problem of her mental state. What's with the young girl who supposedly stroked her bandaged arm, only to disapppear when Devin reached out to hold her. Apparently Devin halllucinated the girl's presence. Yikes. I liked your comment "Yes, it's weird." Is there any episode so far where that comment wouldn't have been appropriate?

Has Salih appeared before? I don't recall hearing his name. Have I simply not been paying adequate attention? (It's been known to happen.)

So Turkut notes a physical resemblance between Hulya and Cihan. Is this supposed to be a hint for us, or to lead us astray? Of course, we'll have to wait to find out.

Hmmm...Cihan asks Hulya whether Yusuf ever killed a woman. Hulya denies this (well, actually, she doesn't really deny it, just says that the idea is absurd, which, of course, doesn't rule it out, especially not in this dizi! I'm wondering whether Yusuf killed the woman who was either Cihan's bio mother or Aslan's, and Hulya and Yusuf then adopted the orphaned child--Cihan or Aslan.)

OK, enough idle speculation for now. Oh, but speaking of idle speculation, I guess I was right when I suggested that perhaps Devin's vomiting indicated that she was pregnant. Hurray for me. :-)

Another stellar recap, dondi! Thank you so very much for coming up with two during a period known for turkey comas.

I wondered if they went with Devin losing her patients so as to dilute her empathy and send her toward becoming Hulya.

How long can they keep this up? By that I mean the war between Ilyas and Aslan.

To me it appeared that Salih was a higherup in the Istanbul police who's on the pad for Ilyas (at least that's how I believe they'd describe it in NYC). He's a nasty piece of work.

Also loved the "swiss cheese" reference. I can easily imagine Tolga helping Ilyas get to Aslan. He's just a weasel.

It was nice to see Hulya showing some sympathy and almost affection for Cihan. I still don't really understand the antipathy toward him shown at the beginning, where he was outside the family celebration in his car. Maybe we'll learn more later. It's irrational to think he could have stopped Yusuf from shooting himself, at least from what we saw. By the time he'd have arisen from the sofa, the deed would have been done.

Nese, pfft! I got my wish; she's going back to the house Devin blackmailed her father into giving up. "I hope your children won't make you suffer." Really?? How about telling your sensitive, damaged child you wished she'd never been born? Both her children suffered from having her as a mother.

Isko and Turgut are starting to remind me of Laurel and Hardy. One of them says dumb things and the other one snarls back at him.
