Las hijas de Senora Garcia- Capitulo 4
The rich are better even when they die
Part 1/3

An ambulance has arrived at the Portilla mansion and the paramedics are working on Cecilia, while the entire family (sans Arturo and Nicolas, but with Ofelia present) are looking. They soon declare Cecilia in clinical death. Pain all around, except for Paula, who looks satisfied.

Valeria and Nicolas are still fighting. He calls her a hooker, she slaps him. He’s very nasty, she promises he will one day regret how he is treating her. They are interrupted when he gets a call from Leo about his mother being dead.
He rushes out of the hotel room, with Valeria following him to the parking lot to give him back the money he threw at her. As he drives off in a hurry, she falls to the ground, crying.

Arturo is rushing home, also (it’s raining now), he gets there just in time to see his mother’s body being covered by a white sheet. He sobs uncontrollably. Then Nicolas arrives, more crying from him. Luis, Camilla and Leo all look broken-hearted. Paula keeps smiling.
Even Ofelia seems impressed, Cecilia looked so well when they talked. Gloria, the housekeeper, wants her to leave, doesn’t know what will happen next but this is a family matter. Ofelia reluctantly agrees to go, but alone in the street she decides she will be back sooner rather than later.

Mar and Juan are having the best of times, eating at a taco place. Juan is talking marriage, Mar is pleased but she’s also checking her phone, her sister hasn’t replied to her message. She calls but there is no answer. Mar says they have to leave, it’s very late.

Valeria gets home but she’s still sobbing because of the humiliation she went through. She explains to Mar what happened, thinks their mom sent her there to be trapped. What did she expect? It was a hotel room with no lights or photographers, their mother would do anything for her to be famous. Mar is shocked.
When Ofelia arrives, Valeria confronts her, accusing her of sending Mar to prostitute herself. She was the one who had to deal with the so-called audition, and she was treated like a hooker. Ofelia slaps Valeria, she is shocked that her daughters ruined everything. At least she’s got her priorities straight, this one!

I guess it’s the next day because the entire Portilla family is dressed in black. Arturo is taking it all very badly, screaming at his father. They are in a sort of chapel, the coffin is brought in. Luis talks to his dead wife, how is he supposed to go on without her?
Luis has a sister, Graciela, who shows up for the wake. She promises her brother to be there for him and her nephews.
Paula apparently has a bone to pick with Graciela, Leo asks her to keep it together. Graciela goes around hugging everyone.
Arturo’s ex, Priscilla, comes to show her support, she and Arturo hug.

Las hijas de Senora Garcia- Capitulo 4
Part 2/3

Ofelia asks Mar about missing the audition. Mar dares to mention Juan, Ofelia gets mad, drags her daughter outside to show her different women around the barrio, tending to their kids and cleaning, leading lives that are everything but glamourous. Is this the type of future she wants for herself? Mar gets scared, she eventually agrees that her mother knows best.
They go inside to watch TV and see the news about Cecilia’s death. Ofelia finds a way to lament her own fate – even in death the rich are better, since they are in the spotlight, while nobody cares about how the poor get to pass. She gets an idea about what their next step should be.

Valeria stops by the Portilla company to give Nicolas his money back. But she doesn’t know who he was when the receptionist at the front desk asks her.
Then she goes back to the gym where the manager agrees to take her back but would like her to use some make-up and be prettier for the classes. What bizzarro world is this?
Her friend tells her Arturo won’t be around much for a while because his mom died.

Ofelia’s big idea was to come to the wake with Mar, who is mortified. Ofelia puts on a big show about being in pain so she can get past the guard outside.
Camila is upset because the last time she talked with her mom they were fighting. She tells Graciela everything was Paula’s fault, and she goes to slap her sister-in-law right then and there, in the middle of the crowd (just as Ofelia and Mar arrive). Nicolas asks Leo to take Paula away, but she won’t leave. Camila screams that Paula needs to go, she saw her smile earlier.

Juan is looking for Mar, who isn’t at the house, but Valeria has no clue where she could be. He tries to get Val to vouch for him, Val thinks he should stop with his jealousy first. He mentions marriage, Val isn’t happy to hear it, Ofelia will never accept this. Juan says he has plans for the future, a big wedding and whatnot. Val is not worried about the money, but about the fact that they are both very young. But Juan is in luuv and ready to fight for Mar.

Las hijas de Senora Garcia- Capitulo 4
Part 3/3

The mourners are now at the cemetery, the coffin is already in the ground.
Arturo obviously has a bone to pick with his father, and he’s keeping his distance from his siblings, too.
Gloria sees Ofelia at the cemetery and wonders why she came.
Another funeral crasher is that lady who wanted to talk to Luis some time ago, her name is Rocio. Luis sees her and gets rattled; Nicolas notices and asks him what’s wrong. Luis evades the question, but later asks his sister if she saw Rocio, too. Impossible, Graciela says, he surely imagined it.

Francisco and his daughter, Priscilla, offer their support to Luis and the family. Arturo is sobbing next to the grave, kneels and grabs some dirt. Paula tells him they need to leave, he needs to stop because people are watching. She provokes him by saying that now that his mother is gone, he will have to stand on his own two feet. He screams at her; Leo intervenes to defend Paula and the two brothers go at it next to their barely buried mother.
Luis is shocked, Arturo screams that their family is now ruined. Luis and Nicolas both ask them to respect their mother’s memory. Paula apologizes like the big hypocrite she is; Arturo storms off.

Mar wants to leave, but Ofelia isn’t wasting any time, she needs to make herself available to Gloria, the housekeeper. Gloria says this is not the time or the place.
There is even some comic relief in the shape of Mar saying that even the rich can get nasty when they’re in pain. All these people fighting remind her of a funeral she witnessed years ago where the daughters of the deceased started screaming and fighting in front of everyone. Ofelia admits that might be true, but the rich fight in such an elegant and refined manner.

Rocio is alone, crying, saying: “There he was, I could see him with my own two eyes. Thank you God, I saw my son!” Oh, do we know which one of the Portilla brothers is her son? Does she?

Las hijas

The credits: I checked them up carefully, because we’ve been wondering about them. “Ofelia” and “Luis” get top billing, followed by “Valeria” and “Mar” sharing a screen and “Leo, Arturo and Nicolas” in another sequence. “Graciela” comes next and then “Paula” and “Juan”. Laura Flores gets a special guest mention.
I think that’s pretty accurate, since Cantu and Sorte have huge trajectories and all the young cast are more or like the same, they’ve all been protas, but there is no Rully, Salinas or Boyer among them.

las hijas
Thanks, Adriana.
It was bad enough having to seeJuan in his jealous state, but when he started going on about marriage and 'future plans' I wanted to laugh. He talks about working hard, but does he have any education at all? Because I'm not sure how he's planning to earn enough money to support a family of his own.I suppose it's supposed to be somewhat cute he is this naive, but I just... Surely even Valeria shouldn't just be worried about how young these two are. Ofelia is even more ambicious than Juan. I thought theyoung ones are all about concouring the world!
I'd have liked to have seen more of Laura Flores.
'Graciela goes around hugging everyone' made me laugh.
I can't believe Nicolas couldtreat Valeria this way. It's like because of his beliefs about her he thought she deserved no respect at all. That scene was a bit too much for me. I can't see him with anyone now.
Ofelia slaps her daughter instead of being horrified someone treated her child so horribly? Her love for her daughters is interesting. She loves them but wants to use them to climb out of poverty. I'm disturbed by this as well as her need to control Mar. I bet she dislikes Valeria because she can't be told what to do.

LAS HIJAS

Adriana Noel, your recap was superb, start to finish.

Like you waterlily, I felt Laura Flores left us far too soon!

Last night, the characters showed how very raw and real they were. The searing pain of Cecelia's death had everyone careening off the rails; the infighting (especially between the bros) was cringeworthy. As unlikeable and self centered as Camila is Paula's obvious joy at Cecelia's death was cringeworthy.

"When Ofelia arrives, Valeria confronts her, accusing her of sending Mar to prostitute herself. She was the one who had to deal with the so-called audition, and she was treated like a hooker. Ofelia slaps Valeria, she is shocked that her daughters ruined everything" was deeply disturbing. I keep trying to see something positive in Ofelia but so far, if there is anything, it's eluded me. Her tight grip on Mar's arm as she showed her the reality of being poor was overly harsh and rather frightening.

Rocio is an interesting twist...

Thank you Adriana Noel for bringing everything to light so clearly!

Hijas #4

Finally had time to comment. Gracias Adriana Noel.

I love the cast but I am not loving the premise of the story. Ofelia says she loves her daughters, but I agree with Waterlily that she is trying to use them to climb out of poverty because she is a failed golddigger herself.

Valeria gets it right: Work and succeed on your merits. It makes me angry that her toxic boss is threatening to fire her if she doesn't glam up for her job. I would love to see her mobilize her female students in the spin class over this. She's there to help them get fit and not to be some Barbie doll to lure men whose advances she will have to fight off.

Mar is naive, which is why she caves to Ofelia. Juan is equally naive and it will be a while before he learns how the world works. Valeria is right about them being too young to take it on.

Paula is looking to be the next matriarch and while Camila is right about her she needs to cool off, document her behaviour, and guard the evidence. If she isn't cheating on Leonardo now I bet she will soon.

I am guessing that Rocio is the mother of Leonardo who was taken away from her by Luis or his parents on his behalf. He is definitely older than 25.

The original Turkish version was 50 episodes. This one is 45 episodes ahead of us in Mexico, but could be much longer based on the size of the cast.

Jonas
Thanks Adriana Noel, I enjoyed your recaps. I commented yesterday but it was late. But I have not liked Ofelia from the start. She pretty much expects Valeria to support the family while she’s always raves about Mar’s beauty and what it will get them.

I was confused about the hotel scene as I thought they were in the office building where they were that morning.

How tacky to go to a funeral to somehow work your way in to the family.
I was way off base in my figuring on Rocio! I thought she was Luis’ mother!

Fugitivas

YouTube TV is showing the grand final playing Monday with #79 Friday night. I hope they don't do a mash up

FUGITIVAS

Hi Kat. Yes, #79 airs tonight and Monday will be #80, the finale.

I don't think anything will be cut as each epi has a full hour.

It IS a lot to wrap up - how Montse will get out of jail, the future of the other fugitivas (especially Frida's illness), Marta and Patricio's future, Ismael and Amanda's future, Florencia's baby's real father's reveal and last but not least, justice for Arturo and the reveal of JP's murderer.

HIJAS

I read somewhere this has about 80 episodes.

Just saw my comment on Hijas says Jonas. It changed it to that again this time but I changed it back. Gotta love autocorrect!

Las hikes

Cher Adriana, Merci for a great review of all the grief and nastiness,. I could hardly watch the crying and fighting. Cecelia was the one kind, positive Character in this story . Now that her calming , loving influence is gone , it is going to get nasty. The fighting at the funeral was awful, as was Ofelia crashing the funeral to advance her plans. Yikes. She is a nightmare.

Ofelia definitely realizes which of her daughters she can manipulate and control , but Val does a little too much yelling for me.

At this point,,none of these brothers is a prize , but perhaps, one or more will become a better man. Where's the hero?

What is Paula's story? Why do Camila and the bros hate her ?

Now we get Rocio and Graciela to add to the mix. The housekeeper has Ofelia's number , but what will Graciela think of her ?
Susan

Las Hijas,

Liz. ..yes, autocorrect is a demon . It decided I wanted the heading " Las Hikes." Frustrating ...and I am rushing too much and not proofreading . Susan

HIJAS

Thanks, Adriana, for your great recap of another very good episode. Unlike many of you, I find Ofelia to be creative and entertaining with her determined desire that her daughters have a better life than she has had. Coming from poverty, the only answer in her mind is : $$. I really want to learn her back story. Loved the tales from the poor Jovita’s wake compared to rich Cecilia’s wake and how everyone was basically the same no matter how much $$ they had. I think it was yesterday? the gym owner told Valeria to get made up because she was to be “aspirational” for the clients. It shouldn’t be that way but I fear it is even in the 21st century. Somehow someway, I am sure Valeria will get that money returned to Nicolás. Could they end up together? So nice to be watching something on the lighter side. It is good seeing Nuria Bages again. I always mix up Guillermo García Cantú with Humberto Zurita.

Las Hijas,
The actress playing Val and the actor playing Nic were Romeo and Juliet starcrossed lovers in " Perdonne " because the girl was from a rich family ( villanous Jose Salinas was her dad ) and he was a poor guy. Perhaps in this show, she will end up with Nick .

I always love to see familiar actors and actresses regrouped in different novelas. We are going to see Luis Gatica in this show. Susan

Hijas #4

The others hate Paula because she is a gold digger and is interested in power, not Leonardo who is the sanest of the three brothers. Like I said, she will be cheating on him before too many episodes go by.

I am already hating Ofelia for how she treats her daughters and for showing who she really thinks she is by refusing to shake hands with the staff. Cecelia should have said something about that right off.

Hijas,

UA did Cecilia see Ofelia refuse to shake the maids hands? I didn't think that happened while she was there.

The grave sure got filled pretty quickly. In our country the family may add the first few shovels full, though flowers thrown in with the casket is more common, but then the cemetery crew does the rest. They sure do have the funeral quickly.

Jarifa, I'm with you on Ofelia. Time will tell if she is worth rooting for.

Getting all made up for training at the gym seems counter productive. I would think the makeup would get all sweaty and run. I'm not a makeup wearer though.

Las Hijas #5 part 1

Luis asks Nick to keep the actions of his brothers from the press. Leonardo also offers to help but Luis brushes him off and walks away with Cami. Graciela tells him tempers flared because of their grief.

Ofelia puts her swollen feet up on the coffee table at their home as Mar types on her phone and listens to mom with half an ear. Ofelia wonders how she can get back into the Portillo mansion since Gloria is no help. Ofelia goes to bed since mar continues to ignore her by typing on her phone. (She should put the keypad on silent, it is quite distracting).

Luis pours himself a drink and tearfully asks Graciela how can he go on without Cecilia. Graciela says, think of your children. He is still shocked by how they reacted. Graciela says they are in shock, they didn't expect to lose her when she was so young. It seems like Luis and Graciela knew there was something wrong with Cecilia but that the doctors said she was better.( Clarifying this dialogue would be helpful).

Paula walks in having overheard the private conversation. Cecilia was ill! What other secrets have you been keeping from the family!? Luis tells Paula he and his wife discussed her illness at great length. It was her decision not to let the children know. The Doctors told her she has many years ahead of her. He asks her to respect Cecilia's wishes and to not tell the rest of the family. Graciela goes to get the rest of the family.

Juan is outside near Mar's house. She rushes to meet him and apologizes for being late. Mom would stop talking. We went to the Portillo wake. More macho man talking by Juan.

Assembled family gets a pep talk from dad. We need to pull together, understand our differences. Camila and Arturo, apologize to Paula. Leonardo and Arturo square off, dad intervenes.ingavr you and order! Luis walks out and Nick comforts Cami. Leo antagonizes her ( I'm not liking this.brother, bet he is the adopted one) but she apologizes t Paula despite her brother's nastiness. Nick then prods Arturo, who apologizes for hitting Leo.

Juan is trying to entice Mar to go with him for an ice cream or whatever. She worries her mother will notice she is missing, and right on cue Ofelia comes out the door calling for Mar. She rushes back and says she thought she heard something strange and was checking it out. Back in the house with you mom says.

OMG, Paula says and me. Here is my apology. The fact that you didn't know how sick your mom was isn't my fault! Leo is shocked. Nick defends his father's decision causing Cami and Arturo to blow u.agaist the favorite son. Smug smirk from Paula for stirring the kettle.

Ofelia knows Mar snuck out to see Juan and is lecturing her about that vaga ( slacker?). Val arrives home and joins in the discussion. Mom is going to bed and the door better stay closed, this is not a hotel.

Cami yells for dad. She can't believe he knew mom was going to die and didn't let them know (except Nick that is). Dad insists that it was Mom's wish so they wouldn't worry and to protect them. ( I'm not in agreement with this mindset. My mother gwas diagnosed with leukemia when I was 8 years old. All her children knew about it and we had her for 13 more years but I think knowing is better than not). Cami runs upstairs and Graciela lights into Paula for spilling the beans. Le can't believe she also knew and heads upstairs with Nick behind him. Graciela warns Paula she better take care or she will see Paula out of the house.

FUGITIVAS #79 Part 2

A crushed Dario cries to Matias and Marta. He yells at poor Matias as Marta lays a gentle hand on Dario’s arm; Matias gets up and leaves. Frida has a secret my love Marta tells him. She is very ill and does not have much time to live. No he yells as Marta hugs him. Matias, who was listening in the hall, enters the room, telling Dario he needs to find her. The men decide to do just that as mother and son hug. Vamos.

Sofia talks to Alejandro. She shows him a screen shot of a man signing a document. Arturo and Guillermo were both mentioned but I did not understand what was said, did it exonerate someone from being responsible for murder?

The doorbell rings at the hideout. Dario and Matias enter and Dario runs into Frida’s waiting arms. Dario wants to be with her never to be separated; he says I love you and the lovebirds kiss.

Amanda enters Ismael’s office babbling about Lorena but it is quickly apparent he isn’t listening. He tells her that the baby Florencia is expecting is Nico’s. Amanda tells him how sorry she is and seems indignant that she lied to him.

All of a sudden, Ismael’s boss comes in. Amanda starts talking and he tells her to leave. He sneers to Ismael demandingly asking if he was the amante of Lorena Martinez; yes or no. Ismael admits it. He tells him how unprofessional he is. He assures Ismael there will be consequences – Ismael is fired!

What is it Amanda says as she comes back into Ismael’s office. He tells her and she gets very upset. He calms her down and then stands up next to her, faces inches apart. They part warmly.

Vincente brings Teo into the classroom where Lucre is waiting. “Mama” he effuses joyously. “Mama”, “Mamita” he repeats tears streaming down his cheeks. Te quiero mucho Lucre tells him, wearing a huge smile of love and affection as she presses her son closely to her.

Dario reassures Frida and takes his leave. Frida freely admits she is overemotional.

Nico comes into Ismael’s office and without apology or preamble takes ownership of the space. Ismael picks up the obligatory cardboard box of his personal belongings as Nico smirks. Nico unbuttons his blazer and makes himself comfortable behind the desk.

Ismael goes to tell Patricio what happened. Patricio asks him what he will do next. Patricio tells him he is a good man and the two shake hands and bro hug. I believe he tells him to go to Marta. Patricio looks shocked and then smiles.

FUGITIVAS #79 Part 1

I posted Part 2 first by mistake

Live like you were dying, Love because you are – Mark Green

Previously: Montse sacrificed her freedom by falsely claiming she threatened to harm Matias if Marta and Dario did not go along with her. After her “confession”, Marta and Dario were told they were free to go.

Erick has brought the fugitivas to a hiding place masquerading as a storage room.

Montse is still with Alejandro. She unsmilingly thanks him for everything as Patricio and Amanda lead her from Ismael’s office. Ismael questions Alejandro about something and looks thoughtful. Alejandro calls Lorena and tells her that thanks to Montse, they are free. He loves her. Everyone is naturally upset, Frida in tears.

Vero and Florencia are at work in her office when Florencia drops something. While Vero is under the desk retrieving it, Nico comes in and without preamble, announces he knows the baby is his. To Florencia’s consternation, Vero stands up, horror plastered across her face. Nico adds accelerant to the fire by not only NOT denying it but freely admitting it! Florencia is beside herself as Vero starts screaming accusations. In spite of Florencia’s vehement protests, Vero grabs the phone, texting Ismael, telling him to come to Florencia’s office.

Vincente’s “student” warmly welcomes Lucre to her house as they hug. Lots of compliments from her for Vincente, who smiles.

Ismael walks in the office and asks Nico why he is there. Vero, her voice five octaves higher than “normal”, announces Florencia’s baby isn’t his, it is Nico’s!! Ismael stares as Vero and Florencia take turns, screaming accusations interspersed with denials. When he directly asks Florencia, it is Nico who answers in the affirmative. Ismael looks shell shocked as Vero leaves. He is amazingly calm as Florencia, completely miserable and distraught, tries to apologize and explain. Your explanations aren’t important he says. I believe he tells her she lied about so much, Juan Pablo and now, this. You are my only love she insists. He puts up his hand and says you told me the baby is mine and it is Nico’s. He wants a divorce as soon as possible. She ugly cries.

Arturo goes to see one of his friends whom I believe is Ismael’s boss. He tells him Ismael had a romantic relationship with Lorena Martinez. He is impactada.

Dario calls and gets Frida as Marta and Matias look on gravely from the kitchen table. How are you? He tells her she is the love of his life but she tells him she can’t be with him as Lorena and Lisset look on sadly. She doesn’t want to cause any more problems for him, Marta and Matias. Lorena tries to talk sense into her. “Hugs please” she cries as Frida and Lorena pile on.

FUGITIVAS #79 Part 3 of 3

Gabriela walks into her living room and Arturo is sitting on her couch!! He picks up her phone and calls Lorena. To her shock and disgust, Arturo tells Lorena who it is. He has his hand over Gabriela’s mouth and he demands Lorena come to Gabriela’s immediately. Gabriela bites Arturo’s hand and manages to get away screaming to Lorena NOT to come. Gabriela tries to leave but he pulls a gun points it at her and tells her to sit down.

Lorena heads out with Lisset right behind her.

Marta’s doorbell rings and it is Patricio. She is surprised but happy to see him.

Alejandro shows up at Arturo’s but Nancy tells him he isn’t home. Vincente arrives and tells him to get out. Ale tells Vincente about his father’s character or lack thereof. I believe he tells him Arturo was responsible for Guillermo’s death. We see a shadow of doubt on Vincente’s face as he tells Alejandro to get out.

How are you Patricio asks. Bien. He emotionally talks about Amanda (perhaps giving Marta credit for helping in the hostage situation, I’m not sure). From their reactions, am I correct in that they agree there is no hope for their relationship? They both cry and he envelops her in a huge hug. But he turns and leaves as she sobs.

Lisset and Lorena pull up to Gabriela’s apartment. Lisset hands Lorena a knife. Lorena knocks on the door and Arturo lets her in. She runs into Gabriela’s arms. You killed Juan Pablo he spits out with venom. He is taking her to the police; she tells him her sister is staying but he of course has no intention of letting that happen.

Dario, Matias and Erick return and Frida tells them what happened. She went alone Erick asks incredulous?? Perhaps here is a good time to interject the obvious: Why has no one called Alejandro??!!

Arturo, Lorena and Gabriela come out of the building, Arturo trying to surreptitiously hide the gun in his hand. Lisset sees them and gasps, calling Erick (what about Alejandro??) Erick gives Dario a phone (is HE calling Alej??) Lisset is trying to catch up but is close enough for Arturo to see he is being followed. “Maldita” he utters as we see he has his gun pointed at Lorena’s side. He guns it but comes to a red light. Lisset stares ahead, her course of action already decided. She clenches her fists even tighter on the steering wheel, and floors it, hitting the brakes mere seconds before crashing into the back of Arturo’s car. The windshield shatters upon impact and we see Arturo slumped behind the steering wheel.

There were several very important conversations/scenes I simply couldn’t follow. I especially would love to know what Marta and Patricio said to each other. Kindly fill in what you can and/or correct what I misinterpreted.

Another heart stopping episode! There were many things that bothered me this evening but I had what might have been a moment of clarity. It finally occurred to me that Arturo keeps harping on the fact that Lorena killed Juan Pablo because he thinks she really did. Now we know she didn’t do it and if those doubts of his are genuine, that means Arturo didn’t kill him either. Something to ponder before Monday’s finale.

Las hijas #5 part 2

In some barrio Rocia reads the newspaper about Cecelia's death. She clips the photo of Nick from the paper ( ok, guess he is the adopted one). Oh wait she also clips the entire family photo and the Nick photo lined up with it so she had to start there.

Mar describes the wake and funeral to Valeria, punches included. She says you and I didn't fight when dad died. Valeria says people handle grief in different ways. Mar can't believe they behaved so ugly in front of all those people. Valeria says something about Mar and mom that I'm not sure about, maybe that they are alike and like gossip, etc. mar says mom made me go with her. Val says you are no longer a child. You need to raise your voice and stand up to her.

Paula goes into her and Leo's room complaining about Graciela to Leo. Everyone in your family insults me and you do nothing (a narcissist to a T). Leo calls her out. If you can't comfort me in my despair then shut ( the hell) up. Good for Leo. He leaves the room and once again Paula has a smirk on her face.

Arturo is drowning his sorrows at a bar. 2 chicks that he knows, suggest he buy them a drink but he says it's not a good time. They leave him be.

The 3 Garcia's are getting ready to leave. Val asks where are mom and Mar going. To seek work mom says. Val always complains that she is the only one providing for them so she is getting a job. BTW I worked for years raising you 2.... Val gives Mar a kiss bye and ignores Ofelia as she walks out.
Ofelia says to Mar, we are off to search for a better future she sings as they also head out.

Nick searches for Arturo in his quarters but the bed has not been slept in. Luis enters the room. He is lost without Cecilia. Cami won't open the door to me, Leo won't look me in the eye and Arturo, who knows where he is. ( Help me understand, Nick has been overseas studying, recently returned home I think, yet he is the only one of the children to know about Cecilia.! Make it make sense.)

Ofelia arrives at the mansion, with Mar in town. Gloria Anderson the door and tries to send her away, circumstances have changed, you are no longer needed. Ofelia claims Cecilia hired her, she turned down other work in favor of this job. She is a hard worker. At least give me a week until I can find other employment. Gloria relents.

Arturo is running on the treadmill when 2vguys walk by saying to each other I don't understand why he is here after what happened to his mother. He should be with his family. Arturo takes exception to it, hops off the treadmill and knocks the guy down with a powerful punch. The friend also steps in to help his buddy and Arturo shoves him. Like dominos falling gym guy knocks into Valeria who falls to the ground. Security grabs the other guys and Arturo revokes their membership. Does Arturo, and family, own the gym.? Arturo asks Val if she is ok?

Gloria wonders who Mar is. My daughter. She is going to help me. Gloria tries to stand firm against another employee, as Paula calls from another room wanting Gloria to do something for her. Gloria relents. Go to the kitchen both of you.

Paula wants breakfast. She and Leo are at the table but no one else is there. Gloria says she is waiting for the master of the house. Paula says he's not here, I'm hungry. Graciela arrives and tells Gloria nobody eats until Luis arrives, he'll be here soon.

Luis knocks on Cami's door which she answers. He wants her to come down for breakfast. She's not hungry.. she misses Mama. Luis comforts her.

Las hijas #5 part 3

Luis sits down for breakfast and Gloria gives him his paper, which he sets aside as they are the front page news. Nick stops by the table for some tea, not eating. He is going to the gym to look for Arturo. Luis asks him to keep him advised when he finds him, as Paula munches on her breakfast which she apparently was served before Luis sat down.

Arturo is now swimming laps ( with the worst freestyle swimmer in the lane next to him). He gets out and asks for a towel from Val. He asks when (the pool) closes. She says at 10. (That seems like a weird time to me, unless it closes for water aerobics or something). She tells him she is sorry for his loss then goes into a spiel about the experts saying you will be over it soon, she says it doesn't work that way. It never goes away, as she is near to tears. He asks did your mother die too, no my papa.

Ofelia is sending Mar to Arturo's room with coffee and coaching her on making small talk with him. Mar, rightly asks, which is his room.. Ofelia has no idea, go search for it.

Nick finds Arturo at the pool. The truth comes out about how Nick knew of Cecelia's illness. He stumbled across the test results and asked dad about them..Mom and Dad swore him to secrecy. I had to respect their decision but it was not easy for me.

Marbis searching and finds Luis office perhaps. He enters and wonders who she is and why she is there. Mom arrives and explains. She makes it seem that Cecilia hired her (them). Which in all honesty she did approve Ofelia so I'd say she is telling the truth.

Nick and Arturo resolve their differences.

Luis welcomes Ofelia ( and Mar) to his house, to work. Ofelia says to mom, he looks so sad. Ofelia feels this will work in their favor. Some more talk about Arturo finding solace from his pain in some woman's arms, etc...
Paula is demanding of Leo that the family show her respect. Leo is fuming that Nick knew everything, the favorite son of course is in dad's confidence. It's like Nick is the only son. Nick arrives and tries to explain. Leo is having nothing to do with him and storms out.

Ofelia and Mar leave for the night. Ofelia tells Mar they are destined for this, not the barrio. Remember this as they hug on the steps of the mansion.

Observations. Does anyone else get tired of these families always living under one roof? It makes the story and backstabbing easier to accomplish, but all I can think is you all are grown adults ( I'm looking at you Leo and Paula). You're wife feels dissed. Go get your own place and let her rule her own home! Luis should kick them out. They should have kicked him out as soon as they got married actually, since they were opposed to the marriage. If gold digger Paula had to rely only on Leo's salary then perhaps she would have left him by now.

Excellent job, Diana. Wow! What a quote! Loved your "something to ponder".

Extras
Amanda makes sure her father knows that she knows that Montse was lying. Referring to Marta and Darío, Patricio says they certainly made a mistake but they were not criminals. He adds that if Montse was going to take the fall, it is none of their business.

Post rehab: Vicente's student has given Lucre a place to live in her own home and has gotten her a job. Lucre is grateful.

Arturo tells his friend that his position of general national prosecutor could be in jeopardy if the public were to become aware of the fact that his prosecutor Ismael had a relationship with Lorena the fugitive.

Frida asks DarIo to leave her alone.

SofIa tells Alejandro that everyone told her the same thing:JP's father Guillermo's death was very strange. He was a jovial kind of guy so suicide made no sense. In his death certificate, it said he shot himself with the right hand but he was LEFT-handed. She has a photo where Guillermo is seen signing with his LEFT hand as a witness at Arturo's wedding. He never could have shot himself with his right hand. Alejandro concludes that somebody killed him: Arturo. Arturo had arrived at Silao supposedly the day before Guillermo committed suicide. Alejandro thinks that JP found out about the murder so Arturo killed him, too. Alejandro has to admit they do not have the evidence to see Arturo charged with neither Guillermo's or JP's death. The only thing they could charge him with now is defrauding him over the Playa Dorada property. Alejandro asks Sofía to lend him a recorder. He hopes to provoke Arturo into a confession.

Darío wants to take Frida to the beach and live life to the max for as long as she has.

Amanda wants to fight for Ismael's job. He asks her to let it go. She wants to quit. He tells her to not quit because of him. He asks her to do that for him. She agrees to stay.

Ismael tells Patricio that he doesn't expect his boss to last very long in his job. He plans to set up his law office and go back to litigating. To be honest he doesn't feel that bad about being fired.

Patricio is there to thank Marta for what she did when Eréndira threatened Amanda. Marta got in between them to protect her. He cannot stop thinking what would have happened if she were not there. His daughter would be dead.
Marta say she did what he thought was right and it was HIS daughter. She could not allow anything to happen to her because of her and the others. He realizes she put her own life at risk for her. That doesn't have a price. He will never forget that. She cannot forgot what he did for her either. She will always be grateful. He says it is a pity that life put them on opposite teams. In tears, she agrees. He concludes that if only things had been different, they could have been together. Both in tears, they have one last hug. He will never forget her. She will not forget him either. He leaves.

Lisset gives Lorena a knife and tells her to stab Arturo in the leg so she and her sister can get away. She will be waiting for her with the engine running.

Thanks Kat, that was great. I have also noticed the rich families in these telenovelas always live in the family mansion and sit down to meals together.

Paula likes to stir things up. She’s had two family members threaten to throw her out. Someone needs too.

I feel like Ofelia is taking advantage of the family’s grief. I hope she doesn’t get what she wants. Although I think she’s looking for Mar not herself. I think it will be Val who marries into the family. It might be Arturo, or maybe Nick. Sparks flew with Val and Nick, although not loving sparks. But she’s had several encounters with Arturo and he’s always nice but that’s it. I thought he’d pick her for the sportswear model, maybe she needs to put on the makeup!

Jarifa, thank you very much.

Your insight shone brightly and brilliantly on much that I missed.

Your details as to what transpired with Guillermo were so important. The puzzle pieces certainly point to Arturo killing him unless we are being lead astray. My big question is if he also killed Guillermo's son.

I had no idea Lisset told Lorena "to stab Arturo" in the leg! Surely she must have realized he had a gun? That might have resulted in serious injury or death for Lorena and/or Gabriela! Good thing Lorena decided to nix that suggestion. :)

So Patricio realizes Marta saved Amanda's life (or close to it) yet he can't forgive her? "Both in tears, they have one last hug. He will never forget her. She will not forget him either". Forgive but not forget? Is that it?? I fervently hope not.

Jarifa, I am so grateful for your thoughtful, insightful and simply marvelous "extras" you provided night after night. My language skills (such as they are) were simply not at the level needed for this novela. If not for you, I don't know how I would have managed to keep going. Your kind support and encouragement were the reasons I was able to soldier on through to the end that looms right around the corner. Thank you amiga.

Diana
