Gloria and Estrada make a compromise. He can’t kill Duque right now, but he’ll send a message. Gloria agrees to continue working for him.
Thank goodness the investigative reporter isn’t foolish enough to swallow Luisa’s lies. This guy has really done his homework. He accuses her of wanting notoriety, a politician’s game, and he wants no part in it. He leaves.
Jacinto calls Luisa. He tells her to pick out an outfit for her funeral. Duque told him that Gloria is being protected by Venancio Estrada, one of the most dangerous narcos. Glo’s working for the Tlahualc Cartel.
Mati overheard Gloria’s convo. She asks, what are you going to do to Duque Medina? Who is Estrada? Gloria says it’s better if Mati stays in the dark. Glo laments, all I wanted was a life with Ed. He’s a good man [but a questionable actor].
Ed picks up Amanda from school. Vero is lurking and she has a gun—you’re not taking my daughter … and you’re not leaving me. She follows them.
Estrada wants Duque’s trusted man. That’s Marlin, Bacalao says, Duque forgives all his mistakes. Estrada instructs, find Marlin, then I’ll tell you what we’ll do to him. Bacalao cautions, remember the last time we killed one of them… Estrada interrupts, I’m not asking for advice. He knows what will happen. He adds, this is the nature of the business.
Marlin meets with Castillo. Marlin says they have to keep Gloria safe and find a way to get rid of Maribel Ortiz. It’s her life or ours. Castillo is surprised to hear Glo and Ed work for Estrada. Marlin explains, if anything happens to those two, it will be war. Duque will get rid of anyone who screws up. And Castillo will be top of the list. Estrada’s guys are watching this meeting at a distance.
Perron calls Maribel. He’s outside Gloria’s place. Ed is driving up. He’s with his daughter. He’ll blow up the car when Glo gets in. Maribel orders, kill the cop, the kids, and anyone who gets in your way.
Ed spots Vero following. He gets out of the car to talk to her. She pulls the gun on him. I won’t let you take Amanda away from me! She’s all I have left!
Laura calls Gloria. She’s happy Glo is back. Laura tells her Miguel was kidnapped. His father took him to LA. Glo says she’s on her way.
Ed and Vero argue. [Ed you can’t reason with a crazy person.] Gloria shows up. Vero can kill two birds with one stone now. Ed threatens Vero with prison. Vero fires and hits Ed, it doesn’t seem serious. He manages to knock the gun from her hand. Vero runs and gets into Ed’s SUV.
Ed tells Glo to get Amanda out of the car. Glo extracts Amanda. Perron sets off the explosion. Vero is blown to smithereens. Perron thinks his mission is accomplished and he drives away.
Fercho approaches Miguel who is alone in the car. Miguel says he doesn’t remember Fercho and asks him to leave because his dad will get mad. Fercho asks, your dad brought you here? Miguel asks him to leave again. Fercho backs away. Arturo returns to the car and drives off.
Nino is honest with Laura. Interpol has no record of Miguel leaving Mexico. Probably a fake passport or name was used. This won’t be easy or quick. Laura is distraught. Fercho calls Laura and he sends the location, some hotel, where he saw Miguel and Arturo.
Erna confronts Rocio, the maid. I think you’re in love. Is it someone who works here? The driver? One of Jacinto’s bodyguards? I have a hard time finding you at times. Rocio denies she has a lover. Erna warns, be very careful who you get involved with, you could regret it.
Yadi is enjoying the last hours of the luxurious hotel room her client paid for. Ramona comes and is impressed. Yadi explains. Ramona replies, I thought you only posted content online. Yadi answers, this is my first time, and before you say anything nasty, I did it because I needed money. Ramona says she won’t judge. If she had the body and the nerve, she might do it too. Yadi offers to pay her if she does her makeup and helps her post a video. They can order room service and charge it to Yadi’s client.
Gael calls Yadi and she doesn’t answer. Ramona guesses it’s Yadi’s boyfriend calling.
Aftermath of the explosion. Ed and Amanda get treatment. The poor girl faints. Gloria is sure that Duque was behind the attack. This is her fault because she told Duque that Estrada was protecting him. Nope, Ed says it’s his fault because he stole Duque’s merch.
Glo calls Estrada and fills him in on the explosion. She’s sure it was Duque. Estrada says he promised protection and his men are on it. He’ll send someone to watch Glo. He calls Bacalao and gives the order to catch Marlin immediately.
Yadi videocalls Gael with the excuse that she’s sick. He invites her over, if she’s feeling better. [expect a quick recovery for Yadi.]
Marlin gets word that Gloria was attacked. He demands that Castillo get rid of the woman who wants to kill Glo before she tries again. Castillo heard that the attack was against Ed. He asks, why don’t you let Maribel finish the job? Marlin replies, that will only happen when the boss allows it. He calls Castillo useless.
Marlin walks away to make a call and Estrada’s guys grab him.
Time for Miguel to start working if he wants to get his mom out of jail. Arturo points out some of his “workers” to Miguel. He wants Miguel to talk and act like them. People need to think he’s from the barrio and Mexican. He introduces Miguel. The oldest kid scoffs. Miguel is too young, if the cops catch him, he’ll snitch. Arturo puts the kid in his place. Arturo tells Miguel he will sell “sweets” to the kids at school. Watch what the others do and be careful.
Fercho’s tip didn’t pay off. Art and Miguel were no longer at the hotel. Laura is desperate. Nino says Art must have had help. He’s a low-level dealer, we will have to infiltrate his organization. Unfortunately, Nino can’t operate in the US. Laura thinks back to Glo telling her she had to move money to the US. Laura says she will rescue her son.
An inmate brings Juana what she requested. Maribel walks into the cell and asks Juana, you wanted to see me, tonta? Yes, Juana replies, I’m at peace with myself, but I want my dignity back. Maribel tells her to stop with the weird Asian stuff. Juana answers, I’m freeing myself from your karma. Whatever happens to you, you brought it on yourself.
Maribel punches Juana in the gut. The other inmates in the cell grab and restrain Maribel. Juana takes Maribel by the throat and proclaims, your wickedness ends today! She stabs Maribel. Say goodbye, Juana tells her, you humiliated me so you’re going to die. A lot of people want you dead. You failed to kill Gloria. The man who protected her hired me to kill you.
Maribel tries to crawl away. She calls for help. No one can help you, Juana says. She jumps on Maribel and repeatedly stabs her. The blood speckles Juana’s face. You never showed compassion to anyone in this life, Juana tells her, I hope you do in the next one. Maribel is dead.
Castillo wonders what happened to Marlin. His guys couldn’t find Marlin but they find his phone. Castillo guesses it was Estrada.
Looks like Miguel wants no part of Art’s operation. He asks to go back to Mexico. He wants his mother. Art tells him to be grateful for his help. I’m all you have in this world, he says to the boy. Miguel counters, I have a grandmother and aunts and uncles in Colombia. Send me back there. What are you going to do there, Art asks, wash cars? You won’t earn enough to get your mom out of prison. You have to toughen up. If you want to save mom, you have to work with me. He gives Miguel money to buy the most fashionable sneakers.
Yes, Yadi has made a quick recovery. She’s at Gael’s place and they kiss on the sofa. She sees pics of his family and he asks her about her family. She explains that she doesn’t get along with her mom or brother. She’s tried, but they don’t want to. He tells her the 8th step of NA is whenever possible, make amends with those you’ve hurt.
Bacalao and his men deliver a container to Estrada. Estrada asks, is the message for Duque ready? Yes. I think those are fingers handed over to Estrada. Estrada wants everything sent to Tijuana. Take the jet and leave the body somewhere Duque will find it.
A guard finds Maribel. Lots of syringes have been poked into her face and body. Juana calls it revenge for all the cosmetic surgeries she did. She ruined many people with illegal procedures. Karma is real and it shows up when you least expect it.
Perron leaves a message for Maribel. The job is done. Gloria blew up in a car. I need my money. Call me when you get this message.
Ed is questioned by an FGR agent. Glo is present. Ed worries about Amanda. The agent asks if there was anything suspicious before the explosion. Did Vero plant the bomb? Gloria tells the agent that Ed needs to rest. He tells Ed not to leave the city. The sooner he gives a statement, the sooner they can carry out the investigation.
Ed and Glo won’t report Duque. They have to think of another way of getting back at him.
Bolillo reports to Perron—Maribel’s been killed. Perron accuses Bolillo of keeping his money again. Bolillo is indignant, I’m on your side! Maribel isn’t answering because she’s dead! Bolillo drops another bomb on Perron, Maribel wouldn’t have paid you. You didn’t kill Gloria. He shows Perron the news on the internet. You killed Ed’s wife. She was the daughter of a very important judge. That judge won’t stop until he finds the murderer.
Estrada calls Gloria. We caught Marlin. He and Duque had a strange relationship. My sources told me he was Duque’s most trusted man. Glo asks, was? What do you mean? Did you kill him? Yes, Estrada replies, he’s dead. You know what’s coming next. You and Eduardo need to be careful. Duque will want revenge. In this business, the dead are avenged with blood.
Nino comes to see Ed and gives his condolences. Ed asks about the explosive. Nino answers it was a homemade device. Ed says that’s not what narcos use. Glo asks, so it wasn’t Duque?
Duque finds Marlin—hanging from a telephone pole. A sign is around his neck. “Stay away or we’ll pump you full of lead.” Marlin is missing two fingers, the same as Duque. The Tlahualc Cartel. And Gloria. Duque fights back tears. He vows, I can’t lay a finger on you now Gloria… but I’m going to kill everyone you love. I’ll do it for you, brother.
Duque’s henchie asks, brother? Did you call him brother? My brother, Duque replies, my blood. You don’t know what you’ve done, Gloria. Welcome to Hell.
And we are out.
An unexpected pleasure, dondi. We don't usually have recaps on Monday, and this was a fine one.
Gloria, hurry up and use some of that money to open a salon. We need to save Yadira from her poverty and crap mother. Laura could work there, and it's the perfect cover for your shadier pastime, just like it was for Maribel.
The whole Arturo thing doesn't make much sense. If he wanted a kid to sling drugs, he already had some. We're supposed to believe he cares for his own child, but he lies about his mother being picked up as undocumented. That's the only reason Miguel came with him. I want this story line cut off fast. The %^&$@ tells the kid he's earning to get his mother out of detention.
Well, that was a twofer. We got rid of two nasty females: Maribel and Verónica in one episode. I could have done without the graphic corpse part with Maribel. I'm actually surprised they killed Azela Robinson off so early.
How would Duque's whole cartel not know that Marlin was his brother?
Dondi, thank you for the recap. Yikes ..3 more deaths...all villains . This show is absolutely exhausting in its violence and darkness and hopelessness .I don't want to watch , but I need to know if things will ever get better....for anyone. Ugh susan
Gracias, Dondi. Your recap is amazing. So many lies, double-crosses, and misunderstandings in this tale, but you made it all clear. And thanks for my afternoon laugh: "Glo laments, all I wanted was a life with Ed. He’s a good man [but a questionable actor]." - lol.
I hate horror movies and usually have a six sense about when to look away from the screen, but last night I turned to look just as there was a closeup f dead Maribel with countless syringe pokes. Ugh!
So Marlin was Duque's brother. IMO the writers should've shown the affection between these two sooner.
I'm not getting the why behind a lot of these characters' decisions. Like, why wouldn't Yadira ask Gael for a loan instead of jumping into straight-up prostitution? But the biggest mystery of course is why some higher up wants Gloria protected.
Thanks, everyone. This show has a very high body count.
Maribel’s demise was horrible, but that character’s death in the original and what they did with the body was absolutely gruesome.
Did Duque think he was protecting Marlin by keeping their relationship a secret? It was weird how they showed the relationship.
#39 – Part 1 of 3
We come in on Duque near the corpse of Marlin, vowing revenge for it.
Eduardo tells Gloria that narcos don’t use explosives. Furthermore, they like to leave a message to show their power. Gloria reminds him that the bomb was meant for him; it was his car. [She’ll find out the real target later.]
Humberto comes to say goodbye to Amanda. Eduardo refuses, reminding him that he left his granddaughter living with his unhinged daughter. [Once again Ed seems lacking in male lead qualities. William Levy would have let Humberto say goodbye to Amanda.] Humberto offers him the house where he lived with Vero and some money. Ed refuses. But there’s a little hint for a future plot when Humberto says that if Ed ever needs him, just call.
Duque mourns oddly. He comes and scoops up the least sympathetic woman in Tijuana: Luisa.
Yadi starts to tell Gael what she’s done [either the hotel hookup or the hot videos, or both]. But Gael insists he doesn’t care. He loves her just as she is. They start getting busy.
Duque tells Luisa that Gloria killed his brother. After extracting a promise of safety for Mathilde and Ernestina, Luisa agrees to help him get revenge on Gloria. Duque tells her that he never let it be known that Marlin was his brother, or he’d have been a target. [Hmm. I’m trying to imagine the home life that created these two soulless brothers.]
Gloria and Ed are both able to move freely because Mati is the perfect babysitter. The kids get along very well. Amanda even tells Dani he won’t die young if he takes his medicine.
Gloria and Laura talk. Gloria says that Ed will help her to find Miguel. Laura wants to cross the border, but Gloria talks her out of it. The disgusting Bolillo shows up, maybe planning another move on Laura. [They’re dropping like flies; why not Bolillo?] Turns out Ed is right behind him.
Duque calls Jacinto insisting he stop one of Venancio Estrada’s shipments. Jacinto is less than forthcoming, saying he’ll have the Tláhuac cartel all over him. Duque says do it or you die.
Ed tells Bolillo he’d be in jail right now if he still worked at the FGR. Bolillo says he doesn’t know anything about Perrón. This might have flown with Laura, but Gloria and Ed aren’t buying. Bolillo says he doesn’t know anything about Arturo and only saw Perrón once when he got out of prison. He says that Maribel was the one who wanted Gloria to be dead. Ed Jumps at him, saying he knew that Gloria would go to pick up Amanda. Ed tells Bolillo he’ll accuse him of being an accomplice to Vero’s murder.
Bolillo mentions the couple who tried to kill her, also sent by Maribel. Bolillo agrees reluctantly to lead Ed to Perrón.
#39 - Part 2 of 3
Jacinto has a video call with one Marrero, sucking up to him about all the good he’s done for the State of Mexico. Something is mentioned about Marrero being a possible presidential candidate. Jacinto wants help from his contacts in the port of Manzanilla (a town in Jalisco). He says it would be good if this merch didn’t pass. Sounds like Jacinto is asking Marrero to close the port.
I am really enjoying Ed scaring the crap out of that piece of mierda, Bolillo. Ed tells him that, if Perrón isn’t caught alive, all the bad deeds Perrón and Maribel did will be charged to him.
Jacinto keeps talking, saying something about strikes by the workers. This guy is not corrupt and tells one of the most corrupt politicians in Mexico that. Jacinto babbles on about stopping drugs being good for the common people.
Laura calls Nino to tell him that Ed is going after Perrón with fire in his eye. She’s afraid he’ll end up in prison.
Gloria finally confesses to Mati where the money came from for Dani’s transplant surgery. She says that she agreed to work for the Tláhuac cartel.
Laura, Yadi and Ramona talk. Ramona gets sent a link to a news story about Maribel’s death. They conclude it was revenge by some of the family members of people who died from Maribel’s illegal surgeries.
Ed handcuffs Bolillo to a gate and goes into the rathole where Perrón is living. He bursts in and beats on Perrón for a while. Perrón whines and begs. [He’s not so macho facing a man as he was when beating Laura.] Ed says that he knows Perrón tried to blow him up, along with Gloria and his daughter. Perrón admits to helping Arturo kidnap Miguel. Ed is about to pull the trigger when Nino rushes in.
Perrón is complaining about his civil rights when they drag him off. Bolillo hides his face, so Perrón won’t know who led Ed there.
Amparo is packed up to leave after seeing Duque rush in and carry Luisa to bed. Luisa tries to get her to stay. Amparo warns her that Duque will do her harm. She reminds Luisa that she saw her son grow up. “Doesn’t it matter to you that Duque had him kidnapped? A person who would do that to innocent young people, just imagine how much he’s capable of!” Luisa does look ashamed. Amparo refuses her offer of money.
Venancio congratulates Bacalau for the hit on Marlin. Wow! That’s an eyepopping jacket Bacalau has on! Venancio asks him how things are going with the port of Manzanillo. Some gringos are coming. That shipment HAS to go through. Bacalau assures him it’s all set up.
Ramona comes to see Bernardo, the vet who was Maribel’s accomplice in the back-room tummy tucks. She puts a knife to the family jewels and wants the money he was holding for Maribel. She also wants those videos Maribel used as blackmail against the women in the salon.
#39 – Part 3 of 3
Nino tells Ed he knows about his Estrada connection. He also knows about Estrada’s upcoming big shipment and that Duque will try to grab it. He says there’s a cartel war coming. Nino advises him to get out of Dodge. Ed believes him and calls Gloria to pack everyone up.
Perrón is back in the slammer and getting crap from the other prisoners.
Ed gets his favor from Humberto, a mysterious manila envelope. Nino says he’ll take care of the rest. Humberto says something about the memory of his daughter. Ed looks him in the eye and says this meeting never happened. [I suspect Perrón’s time in prison will be short.]
Yadi has taken Gael’s advice about one of the NA steps and has brought him to dinner at dear old mom’s place. It was going pretty well until the despicable Uriel (her brother) pops into the room and recognizes Gael from the one and only NA meeting he attended. We find out that the guy who accosted her at the park was her ex, Martín.
Venancio is smiling ear to ear and talking with the gringos about 3 tons of drugs. Venancio’s cut will be $70 million. They toast.
Sounds like Jacinto convinced the honest politician to shut the port of Manzanilla.
Rocio, the maid, lures Jacinto into some ill-advised sex in the afternoon. Erna overhears.
Uriel wins again. Yadi’s brother feigns sadness and accuses Yadi of always hating him. Yadi’s mother refuses to admit that her son uses drugs and throws Yadi and Gael out.
Uriel goes right to a club where Martín, the aforesaid ex of Yadi’s, appears to be holding court. Uriel is telling Martín about Yadi bringing Gael to the house and that he has no idea what awaits him. Martín gives Uriel some drugs, warning him to not use it all at once. [I would not mind it at all if he ignored this advice.]
Gael asks Yadi about Martín. She’s very evasive, just saying she didn’t marry him…because. And if she had they would not be together.
Duque tells another thug that he has a green light for the kid. [I assume Duque’s big boss doesn’t mind if Dani dies, maybe he’d prefer it.]
Gloria is packing when the doorbell rings. They aren’t expecting anyone, and she goes to the door with her gun in hand. Outside her door is a funeral wreath and a small coffin.
Gracias, Dondi. Super storytelling. I loved all your commentary, especially "They’re dropping like flies; why not Bolillo?]" I can't stand the way Laura is fooled by Bolillo.
I haven't focused on Ramona but suddenly she looms large. Cheers to her threatening Bernard's family jewels. [Dondi, thanks for reminding me who Bernardo is.]
At first I thought Erna had gotten the maid on her side and the maid was boinking Jacinto to give Erna time to snoop for incriminating evidence against him. But nope, poor Erna is hurt he's a lousy, loud cheater.
Gloria can never catch a break. Now her kids are in danger.
Loved Ed roughing up Bolillo.
Novelera, thank you for an excellent recap as the darkness continues with no light in sight. Uff. Susan
Novelera: Thanks for the recap of last night's episode. Things are getting juicier.
Niecie: I busted out laughing when Whacky Veronica got blown up & smiled 😃
Susan: I see that Creepy Duque wants to kill Daniel OMG. He's an innocent kid for Christ sake.
I wish I could take credit for that great #39 recap, Niecie, but it was novelera’s good story telling. ITA with all her snarky asides.
It makes me sick how Yadi’s mom and bro treat her.
I’ll watch the Wednesday show this morning and post a recap later today.
Unfortunately, Daniel sees the wreath and coffin meant for him and the poor kid freaks out. Mati says it’s too dangerous for them here. Gloria says she’ll inform Ed.
Ramona has Bernardo tied up and drugged. She wants those salon videos. He eventually spills. Ramona finds flash drives and a stash of money. She leaves him a note, with a bit of cash and a threat to kill him if he talks.
Uriel gave Martin info on Yadi, which included the work address of Gael. He gets drugs in return. Martin states, that guy’s not stealing Yadira from me. Your sister will always be mine.
Yadi lies awake in bed, next to Gael. She replays words—you look like a junkie, a prostitute. She gets up and takes a pill.
Ed is with Glo and Mati. Mati says that Dani has calmed down, but Amanda was upset, too. Estrada has a man watching them. Ed turns his thoughts to Perron—he must pay. Ed has a plan. Glo wants him to forget it. Perron has his punishment, he’s in jail. Ed is sure if Perron gets out, he’ll be coming for them. We’re going to eliminate everyone who wants us dead, he says, we’re at war and whoever isn’t relentless, loses.
Glo tries to assure Dani that everything will be okay. He asks if it hurts to die. Glo doesn’t know but says that when you die, you are reunited with loved ones who have passed. Dani wants to close his eyes and imagine he’s with JJ and Grandpa. Gloria replies, they will always be a part of you, in your heart. In the meantime, you have a long life ahead of you.
Ed’s stupid plan—pretend he’s an inmate in Perron’s prison and exact revenge. He tells Nino, if I don’t make it out alive… Nino interjects, don’t even say that. Amanda, Gloria, and Dani need you. That’s why you will walk out of here alive.
Ramona views salon footage. It’s what she needed. I guess she saved this on the laptop. She burns the drives.
Estrada is furious. The Manzanilla Port is closed. A union strike. The merch won’t get delivered to the gringos who are expecting it today. He’s going to lose $70 million and his reputation. Estrada blames Duque. Bacalao is ready to kill, but Estrada’s priority is moving the merch. Gloria comes to see Estrada.
Jacinto contacts Duque. The Manzanilla Port is closed. But he could only manage one week. Jacinto says this is the last time he can do a favor like this. But Duque’s not going to let him off the hook that easily.
Estrada gives Gloria an armored truck and a guard named Bocho. Gloria says she’ll need more than that. Estrada laughs, you know if I do that favor for you, you will be deeper in debt. Glo knows and that’s why she’s asking. Is it a deal? They shake on it.
Ed attacks Perron in the showers. You killed my wife. You tried to kill Gloria. Where’s Miguel? Cowardly Perron blames everything on Maribel. He was forced. Ed continues to beat Perron.
Gloria says Estrada is like a godfather to her. Not like, Estrada replies, I am your godfather. We are in a war of your making. Glo answers, no, this war began when they killed JJ. Since then, I’ve been on the run. I’m tired. Estrada likes this new Gloria.
Estrada tells her about Duque closing the port. Gloria has an idea, try a port closer to the US. Estrada has no contacts in that region. Glo says that JJ’s cousin works there. She will take care of that today. That will be one less favor she’ll owe Estrada. Estrada looks stunned.
Ed finishes the sniveling Perron with a screwdriver and stuffs his body in a toilet stall.
Wow, news travels fast. Duque is informed of Ed’s plan. Some inmates that Ed arrested recognized him. Henchie says that they have Gloria’s new address, but her mother and son got in an ambulance and left. Duque says, Torres can’t get out of prison alive. I’m going to the hospital to take care of the kid.
The salon hasn’t sold yet. The owner never changed the locks in the back. Ramona and Yadi enter. Ramona needs to speak with Gloria, but Glo doesn’t answer her calls. She asks Yadi to intercede but won’t tell her what she wants. Yadi realizes that Ramona has been squatting at the salon. To Ramona’s surprise, Yadi decides to become Ramona’s roomie.
Yadi exits the salon, and Martin is there to intercept her. He drags her back to the salon. [I don’t think that back door has a lock at all.]
Ha, Ed tries to wipe blood off himself and the floor. He calls Nino, it’s done. Deliver the papers that Judge Ramos signed so I can be released. See you at the main entrance in 10 mins. Not so fast there, Ed. An inmate he arrested confronts him, and he’s got backup. The guys beat Ed.
Gloria arrives at the hospital and it’s bad news. Mati says Dani suddenly was in pain and he’s burning up. The doctor delivers another blow. I’m sorry, there’s not much I can do. Dani rejected the transplant and he’s in critical condition.
Martin pulls Yadi close. She’s petrified. He tells her he needs cash. Like alimony after the divorce. Ramona is listening in. That’s ridiculous, Yadi replies, we weren’t even married. Martin notes that Yadi has replaced him. He found out from Uriel. He asks, does this boyfriend of yours know that you’re selling yourself online?
Gloria wants to see Dani, but the doc stops her. She assures Amanda that Dani will be okay. Mati tried to reach Ed, but he doesn’t answer. Glo tells Mati to take Amanda home. She will ask Laura and Yadira to come to the hospital. We see Duque and his henchie have been lurking and listening.
Yadi hands over the little bit of cash that she has. He complains it’s not enough. I don’t even have money to feed myself, she cries, be satisfied with that and leave me alone. Martin says okay, he’ll go, and slobbers on Yadi’s shoulder. Ramona comes out and comforts Yadi.
Nino hands in Ed's release papers. An announcement is made: inmate Esteban Martinez, come to Exit C.
Ed is dragged to another location. He’s told, you know what we do to cops in here. And after that, it’s the cemetery for you. The inmates tie him up and start to stretch him out from his neck and feet.
Martin comes to see Gael at work. Gael was expecting an engineer. He’s surprised but he offers Martin a coffee.
A medical team works on Dani. He’s got no pulse. Defibrillator. Duque is watching. Gloria rushes into Dani’s room. She’s frantic and pushed back. Laura arrives. The doctor tells Gloria, we did all we could. Daniel didn’t make it. Gloria shouts for her son and runs to his bedside. Daniel! No! Please! Duque is pleased.
The doc explains, Daniel will be taken to the morgue. He will sign the death certificate so he can be brought to the funeral home. Gloria says she doesn’t want a funeral or flowers, she just wants Dani’s ashes so she can leave this hell. Laura thinks Dani should have a proper burial and that Glo should take time to mourn. Gloria asks to go to the morgue to be alone with her son.
Martin introduces himself as Pascal Rodriguez. Gael asks, what can I do for you? There’s someone we both know, Martin replies, una amiguita. ¿Amiga? Yes, Martin says, you probably don’t remember. She told me she hired you for a job years ago. She recommended you. I’d like you to look at some land I’m thinking of buying. I want to know if a house can be built on it.
Their convo is interrupted by a call from Yadi and Gael excuses himself. He asks Yadi if she’s okay, she sounds weird. She says she’s got a cold, but she’s calling because he said he had a surprise for her. She will meet him at the location. Okay, he replies, it’s called “El Recreo”, a pretty restaurant and the food is great.
Ramona gives Yadi relationship advice. No one likes to be lied to. A truth delivered with love, even if it hurts, is better than a lie.
Of course, Martin listened in. He tells Gael that’s a very cool restaurant. Gael says it’s a favorite and that’s why he’s taking his girlfriend. It’s an important occasion. Martin offers congratulations. He’s leaving but he’ll come back when he has the purchase agreement.
Ed’s torture continues.
The gringos arrive at Estrada’s, and they’re pissed that the merch didn’t make it. Estrada wants to explain. There was a problem at Manzanilla so the merch couldn’t unload. But now the entire shipment is on its way to Guaymas. Yes, the deal was to deliver it today but given the problem that arose, I promise you’ll have it tomorrow. You have my word. A gringo replies, unfortunately, your word doesn’t mean anything to us anymore. No deal. The gringos walk out.
The inmate tells Ed that Duque is going to kill all of Gloria’s people, one by one. You’re first. We heard your wife died. It’s logical you’d want to commit suicide. Nino shows up in the nick of time and fires a warning shot. Guards appear to take the inmates. Nino unties Ed.
Gloria closes her son’s coffin and it’s taken from the morgue. She signs paperwork and says, I’ll wait for you to give me Dani’s ashes at the airport. Duque’s henchie is lurking.
Estrada is discouraged. Bacalao comes to him with paperwork to authorize weapon purchases. Estrada’s not in the mood. He laments, $70 million… I’ve never let so much money slip through my hands. Oh well, there’s a first time for everything. This leaves a bitter taste.
Bacalao opines, this has never happened because you’ve never worked with women before. If she hadn’t asked us to kill Marlin, none of this would have happened. Take away her protection, boss. Forget her. You can find someone as good as her or even cuter.
Estrada grips Bacalao’s hand and growls, the only one who can save my damn cartel’s fate is me, be it while I’m still alive or after I’m killed, understand? He stabs Bacalao’s hand with the pen. Put that in writing, or my name isn’t Venancio Estrada. He signs the papers. [I think Gloria’s got another enemy now—Bacalao.]
Duque and henchie drink to the memory of Marlin. Duque explains how he kept the brotherly secret so Marlin wouldn’t die young. All for naught.
Dani’s ashes are delivered to Gloria on the plane. We find out that this was a plan to fake Dani’s death. Amanda asks, what’s in the box? Must be my prize for winning at hide and seek, Dani answers. It’s a cell phone. Gloria tells Dani, I got you a ticket to a new life, so that nobody can ever hurt you.
And we are out.

Ed’s stupi
Dondi, thank you for the detailed recap. I won't have to watch this episode. I just can't take all the violence . Susan
