I'll post a Thursday recap later today. And I'll have the Friday up on Saturday.

It's great to hear from you, Juanita! Glad your improving! To be honest, you're not missing much with La Jefa.

jefa # 31 part 1

Vero goes into Dani’s room. He reminds her of her son, Rodrigo. She reads Dani’s chart—diabetes, kidney transplant needed. She whispers to the unconscious child, no wonder Eduardo is worried about you. But my husband has to look after his daughter. She’s very sick too [and so are you, Vero.] If she gets worse, it’s his fault. She fixes Dani’s hair. Very creepy.

This is ridiculous. As Luisa ordered, Amparo bought gallons of gasoline and spread it throughout the house. Luisa has her lighter at the ready. Well, at least Amparo called Erna, who shows up and begs Luisa to reconsider.

Vero, who claimed she’s representing the “Rodrigo Torres Foundation”, had asked for Dani’s info to sponsor his treatment. A nurse fell for it and profusely thanks her, telling her that now Dani will be able go to the US again to have surgery. Vero asks, again? The nurse says, you’ve earned a place in heaven. [I ask, how soon can we send Vero?] Vero says to herself, that’s not going to happen.

Bolillo shows up at Laura’s. She gets suspicious when Miguel happily welcomes Bolillo as a friend. She sends him to do homework, and he talks back. Bolillo defuses the situation and Laura escorts Miguel back to his room. This gives Bolillo the opportunity to get the house keys that Perron wanted.

Erna tries to reason with Luisa. What’s wrong? Why do you want to burn the house? Luisa cries, I can’t live in a place surrounded by ghosts. It reminds me of JJ’s rejection… of Gloria the family favorite… no one loved me. She asks Erna, do you love me? Erna replies, I love you very much. Luisa doesn’t believe her. She continues, I couldn’t even be happy with Fernando. I can’t stay here.

Luisa shouts, the past and the ghosts should burn! She throws the lighter and starts the fire. The whole house is engulfed in flames in a flash. [yep, ridiculous.]

Gloria arrives at Venancio’s. He greets her, Gloria Guzman, your pictures don’t do you justice. You’re one of those women one has to meet in person. Your eyes bare a person’s soul from a single glance. [I don’t get it. IMO, Gloria’s not THAT attractive.] He kisses her hand, it’s a pleasure to serve Malverde… and you. Venancio proposes a toast to JJ. You knew him, Glo asks. Not personally, he replies, but everyone heard of his death and his widow.

Glo says she there to repeat the offer made by Torres. He’s a lot nicer to her than he was to Ed, but he tells her the same thing—no deal.

Ramona comes to Yadira at the hospital. The salon is up for sale, and she thinks they should buy it. They will need a lot of money. Ramona wants Yadi to ask her mom for a loan. Yadi says no way mom would agree. What about Gloria, Ramona asks.

Glo says she understands what it would mean to be at war with Duque. That man ruined her life. Venancio says that JJ ruined Glo’s life. He asks, why are you so desperate to sell the merch? She explains about Dani. She needs $300K.

Venancio laughs and she gets up to leave. He stops her. I won’t let you leave when you’re angry. Sit down! You haven’t done anything to earn the money you’re asking for. Gloria replies, my son is sick and I have no time to waste. Venancio answers, all the more reason to work harder.

What do you want from me, Gloria asks. Venancio replies, I won’t buy the merch, but I will give you the money you need. A loan. Gloria says she’d never be able to pay him back. He asks, how far are you willing to go? She assumes where this is going and says--I’m not willing to warm your bed. No, he’s not interested in that. He wants her in his “business”. She can repay him by working for him. She agrees.

jefa # 31 part 2

Venancio is willing to give Glo more than she needs--$500K. Take care of your son, he says, then call me and we’ll talk. Gloria wants to know up front what she will have to do. He replies, what’s the rush? I won’t ask you for something you can’t do. Let’s toast. We see that Ed has been lurking outside. Vanancio asks Gloria if Torres is her boyfriend. She’d rather not answer. Venancio says he will call Torres to arrange for the money. They shake on it and Gloria leaves.

Vero forces Amanda to finish her OJ, even though the girl complains it tastes weird.

Gloria explains the deal to Eduardo. No drugs, just the money. Ed wonders why Venancio is giving money just like that. Glo doesn’t want any questions, she just wants to get to LA. Ed thinks Venancio wants sex from Glo. Glo says that’s not it—when I return, I’ll do a job for him. Ed thinks she’s sold her soul to the Devil. Glo only wants to focus on Dani for now. Ed says he’ll take her to the hospital and say goodbye to Amanda. Then he’ll meet her at the airport in an hour.

Laura gives Bolillo some clothes for Perron. They talk about her relationship with Perron. Bolillo tells her he doesn’t agree with hitting women. They should be treated with respect. He never hit Susana, QEPD. If you’re going to lay a hand on a woman, he says, it should be to caress her. How sweet, Laura replies. [I hope Bolillo’s conscience kicks in and he ends up helping Laura.]

Erna brings Luisa back to Luisa’s house. Erna and Amparo put La Loca in bed. Erna looks at her phone. The press is already talking about the fire. Right now, it’s being called an accident. Erna wonders, what’s going to happen if they learn the truth?

Luisa says she doesn’t care. She’s the mayor and the press will say whatever she wants. Erna says, first you have mom arrested, then this. You’re not well. [ya think?] Luisa replies, you’ve always been an idiot, but I’ve never said anything. Erna’s fed up and says, I’m tired of being disrespected by you and everyone else.

Laura admits she used to be scared of Bolillo. But now she can see he has a heart. He thanks her for the clothes again and asks if it’s okay if he talks to Miguel. Maybe he needs a man-to-man conversation since he never had a father figure. The doorbell rings. Laura goes to answer. Bolillo gets up and says he’ll go to Miguel.

It’s Nino. He apologizes for coming unannounced. He wants to talk about Perron. It’s important. Bolillo listens in from the hallway. Nino has a log of Perron’s phone calls. Do you recognize this number from Colombia? She doesn’t. Do you know any of the US numbers? No. Does Perron have family in the US? No, not that she knows. Laura mentions Arturo Corona, Miguel’s father. She says, I haven’t seen him in over 10 years.

Eduardo arrives at Vero’s. Vero is holding unconscious Amanda and shouts, Eduardo, come here! Help! He picks up Amanda any places her on the coffee table. He asks, what happened? Vero cries, she was fine and then she fainted. Don’t leave me Eduardo, if she dies, I’m going to die. Ed calls a doctor. Vero puts on a big act. She blames Amanda’s illness on finding out Ed has another family. This happened because you abandoned us to be with that woman and her son!

Erna tells Luisa, you say Gloria thinks too highly of herself, but you’re the one always humiliating everyone. You’re no victim, Luisa scoffs. Yes, I am, Erna replies, and it’s my fault, too. You and Jacinto think I’m an idiot and mistreat me. I’ve had it! What are you going to do, Luisa snarks. Erna answers, I won’t let you and Jacinto get any closer. I’m done taking the abuse and trying to help. I’m going to prioritize myself.

jefa # 31 part 3

Nino recaps, the only person you know in the US is Miguel’s father? Yes, I haven’t seen him in 10 years, Laura replies, I don’t even know where he lives. Nino says the number is from LA. Laura recalls she met Arturo in NY but then she lost track of him. She doesn’t like talking about him, she has bad memories. Nino reminds her this is for the kidnapping case. Laura thinks that Arturo and Perron don’t know each other. There’s no connection there. Bolillo is still listening.

Nino asks how she met Arturo. She was illegal in the US, working at a restaurant. He was a supplier to the restaurant. Nino explains that in the case of kidnappings, the parents are always the main suspects. Especially if they are separated. Bolillo looks worried.

Ed is angry that Vero mentioned their marital problems to Amanda. She blames the kid for asking questions and figuring out he was sleeping with that woman [What?]. Amanda wakes up. Vero cries, you’re going to get better and we’re going to be a family again. Amanda whispers, dad… dad, don’t leave me.

Glo tells Yadi about meeting the narco. Yadi says the world of narcos is a one-way road. Be careful. Gloria replies, don’t worry, I’ll get out as soon as I repay my debt. I won’t fall into his trap.

A nurse tells Gloria the doc signed the release, and they are ready for the airport. The nurse mentions the woman who raised funds to help Dani. What woman? The nurse describes her and asks, did she give you the money? Both Glo and Yadi think it’s Ed’s wife. But why would she ask about Dani? Then Glo wonders if it’s Venancio’s people. Good thing they’re going to LA today.

Yadi tells Glo about Ramona and the salon. If we get the money to buy it, it could be the answer to our problems. The nurse tells Gloria that Dani is awake, and the ladies rush off to see him.

Laura tells Nino that Arturo wanted her to abort. She doesn’t think Art would want Miguel back now. Nino says let’s wait until we hear from Interpol. In the meantime, he will follow up on all leads. Nino leaves. Bolillo pretends he came from Miguel’s room. He offers to get some tamales.

Arturo is at the cantina with Venancio’s henchie. Art likes what he sees in Miguel. He’s tough, stubborn, and a man. A perfect mini me. I need him with me. Art asks the henchie, will your boss help me? Yes, Don Estrada gave the go ahead. The henchie gives a warning to Art not to mess up.

Dani asks about Eduardo. Glo says they are meeting at the airport. Dani says he doesn’t want Eduardo. Mom, you were right, he has another family. His wife said nasty things about you on the phone. Yadi interjects, don’t listen. Give him a chance, you can talk on the plane. Glo tells Dani that grandma is coming. She’s giving him a kidney. Glo tells Yadi she’ll call from LA. Don’t worry about the salon. We’ll find a way to make that dream come true. We see Maribel’s sicarios lurking in the background. She says, we can’t let her get away.

Duque is with Luisa. He came when he heard about the fire. It was a foolish move. He tells her he can’t hurt Gloria, but she can. They turn my stomach.
The doc says that Amanda is dehydrated. She doesn’t need to be hospitalized. Keep an eye on her. If she has a fever, diarrhea or dizziness, call me.

Luisa says she hates everything Gloria, but she can’t wallow in hatred. It’s time she moved on with her life. Duque goads her to keep hating. Recapper’s prerogative FF>>, discuss if you want.

jefa # 31 part 4

Vero walks the doc out. She looks at the old family pic. Forgive me, honey, I love you, but if I don’t make you sick, Dad will leave with Gloria.

Amanda tells her dad she wants to be a police officer like him. [hopefully, not exactly like him.] Amanda asks her father to sleep with her. Ed’s phone rings, it’s Glo. Amanda asks, you’re not leaving, are you? Ed doesn’t answer the call, but we don’t hear an answer to Amanda.

Amparo brings Luisa tea, and she’s stunned to find Duque there. She quickly says, I didn’t know you had company. Luisa excuses Amparo. Why was the maid so scared? Luisa tells Duque that Amparo isn’t used to seeing men in her home. And she’s been anxious since her son went missing. He was a chemistry student.

Ed calls Glo but he doesn’t see Vero listening in. Ed delivers the bad news, he can’t go with her to LA. Amanda is sick. It’s nothing serious, but he needs to keep an eye on her. I can’t leave her now, he says. Gloria says she understands. He tells her he will catch up with her in LA. He already discussed the money with Venancio. Gloria replies, she can take care of herself. Ed worries that she won’t need him, not as much as he needs her, and tell Dani I’ll catch up. He swears. Unhappy Vero heads upstairs.

Dani asks mom if she was talking to Eduardo. Yes, Gloria responds, but he can’t fly with us. He will catch up later. Dani replies, he doesn’t have to. We don’t need him. [I kinda agree.] Dani adds, Dad left me in charge of our house.

Duque heads to the kitchen and Amparo is petrified. Is there something you need, she asks. Relax, he replies, stop shaking like a leaf. He asks, where is your son? Amparo answers, I don’t know. The police are looking … Duque interrupts—don’t play dumb. What’s your son’s name… Facundo? He’s the internet hero. He escaped but I’m certain he told you where he is.

Amparo asks, why do you want to know? I have a reputation to uphold, Duque replies, no one gets away from me. If you get away, you die. Your son is no exception. Amparo gasps.

Maribel’s sicarios follow Gloria to a private airport. The woman informs Maribel. Maribel is irate—no, no, that bitch must pay for ruining my life! Blow her up before she gets on that plane! I gave you an advance, so deliver on your promise! Otherwise, face the consequences. The woman says she’ll think of something and let Maribel know when the job is done.

And we are out.

jefa

A million thanks, dondi, for a double duty week. I really appreciate it. And your asides were perfect. Amen on how creepy Veronica is. I guess they're going with mental illness. In an earlier episode her father was ragging on her about not taking her meds. This dad is the exception to the rule about the entitled female villain having an entitled, rotten father. I suppose at some point we'll find out what happened to Ed's son. Right now, it looks pretty obvious she drugged him like she's doing with her daughter. But I suspect she'd be in the slammer if Ed knew. Loved..."how soon can we send Vero to heaven".

Yep, Luisa burning up that house was waaay ridiculous. But I remember Aslan doing the same thing in La Familia, so the Turks aren't immune from such plot points.

Miguel is kind of a brat. I think they're going with his being a bit damaged because he was away from his mother so long. I can't really predict whether Arturo will get hold of him or not. ITA in hoping Bolillo stops helping Arturo. The actor has a very expressive face.

Is Duque THAT scary that Venancio doesn't want anything to do with his drugs? Or does he prefer what he has in store for Gloria?

I have high hopes for Ernestina really changing. It's been awful watching her be so servile and going along with what her sister and husband cook up.
Exhibit A: locking her mother in a room to prevent her nephew's life being saved.

The little girl playing Amanda is doing a good job of showing her fear of her mother and her desperate need for her father to be there (to protect her from her mother).

There are SO many things about this novela that drive me nuts. Every person the writers get us to care about is constantly in danger. The latest is Duque insisting Amparo tell him where her son is. As if any mother would do that!

"JEFA"
Dondi356: Will Creepy Duque kill the maid ? We'll find out.

Novelera: Ernestina will NEVER change: she also hates Gloria. I have one question: What is it about Gloria that the Ugly Sisters HATE her so much ?

jefa

Thanks for the comments, novelera and Steve.

I got the idea that Vero’s dad is covering up what she did. He knows what happened to the boy and he warned her about Amanda. I don’t remember if he mentioned jail time, but he said she would lose Amanda and Ed. Well, it’s already too late for Ed.

“I remember Aslan doing the same thing in La Familia, so the Turks aren't immune from such plot points.” You’re right, novelera. I own a TN beanie and a dizi beanie. But I thought it more ridiculous that Amparo stupidly bought the gasoline and spread it throughout the house. She became an accomplice to arson. Two able bodied women couldn’t snatch that lighter from Luisa?

I’ll cut Miguel some slack for now. I liked the way he tried to defend his mom from Perron. He’s at that “tween age”, a dangerous time. He seems smart but he’s a bit naïve. He never had good male role model. Now he’s surrounded by wolves.

I think that Venancio wants to avoid an unnecessary cartel war with Duque. Bad for business.

I also hope that Erna stands up for herself.

ITA, the little girl playing Amanda is doing a good job.

Steve, no one’s safe in this TN. I don’t think Ernestina hates Gloria or Daniel. She’s just too weak to stand up against Jacinto and Luisa. Maybe that will change.

Recap coming shortly.

jefa #32 part 1

Dani is nervous about the operation. He doesn’t want anything to happen to him or to grandma because Gloria will be left all alone. He asks, you’ll never leave me, right? Gloria swears on her life that she will never leave him alone.

The sicarios lurk at a distance. Once the police clear out, they will make their move.

Eduardo stays with Amanda until she’s asleep. Vero enters the bedroom. Here comes the big act—she was so frightened by what happened. Amanda was so pale and cold. She thanks Ed for coming so quickly. Ed tries to walk away but she stops him—no, please don’t leave me alone. I was terrified at the thought of losing her… and you. She hugs him. He removes her and says, don’t get the wrong idea. I’m only here for her (Amanda). Ed leaves the room.

Amparo is terrified. She claims she doesn’t know where her son is. Duque picks up a kitchen knife and threatens her. No more games. You know who I am. Amparo gasps, I don’t, I swear. Duque hisses, if your next words aren’t your son’s location, I’m going to slowly cut out your tongue. Amparo begs. Luisa has wheeled into the kitchen and interrupts. What are you doing?

Facundo notes his calls to Cmd. Torres are going straight to voice mail. Karen tells him not to give up. We can’t let Duque continue.

Vero follows Ed—where are you going? To sleep, he replies. She asks, are you going to see your lover? You were talking to her. He calls her out on spying on his conversations. Vero is sure, or maybe, she thinks, he was dealing with some other shady business. She tells him about the strange guy that came to the house. Some man named Duque.

Luisa demands an explanation. What the hell is going on here? Why are you threatening Amparo? [this might be the only good thing Luisa has ever done in her life.] Amparo says it’s nothing, just a misunderstanding. It’s my fault. She excuses herself.

Duque reproaches Luisa, how dare you speak to me like that in the presence of that rat? Let it be the first and last time you make me look foolish in front of someone. Luisa smirks, and if I don’t? You’re going to kill me? Duque moves in and replies, of course I would… without hesitation. It won’t be quick. I’d make it long and painful. He places the knife on her skin and lightly traces it downward.

Ed asks Vero, what did that man tell you? That confirms Vero’s suspicions. She asks, are you afraid of him. Ed denies it and says he’s just surprised. Vero presses. Who is Duque? Is he dangerous? Ed admits it and adds, I’ve been trying to put him away for a long time. Vero is angry—this man knows where your daughter and I live! He assures her they are not in danger. Duque won’t hurt her or Amanda. He tells Vero to contact him immediately if Duque comes again.

Duque finally puts the knife down. Know who you’re dealing with, he says, I’m not a lapdog like your late husband, or like that fool, Jacinto. Or your idiot sister, Gloria, who is broke and powerless. Luisa doesn’t want to hear about Gloria. Duque asks, what part of “you’re not my boss” didn’t you understand? She fires back, and what part of “nobody gives me orders” didn’t you understand?

You don’t understand what you’re getting mixed up in, Duque continues, I thought you were smarter than that. Maybe all the things they say about you are correct. Do you know what they say? Compared to your sister Gloria, you’re worthless. [Ouch, that hurt worse than any knife could.] Duque leaves.

Yadira records some videos, a naughty schoolgirl, a sexy nurse. Lol.

jefa #32 part 2

Gloria and Dani head for the plane. Gloria is told that someone asked to see her, it’s urgent Who could it be? The attendants take Dani. Gloria spots the sicarios and remembers them. She runs off and the sicarios chase her. The man manages to corner Glo in a room. He pulls a gun. She puts up a fight. A few shots are squeezed off into the air. The gun drops and Glo continues to struggle against the thug. She hits him and he falls out of a window, down to the floor below, just as his partner in crime enters the scene. Yep, it looks like he’s a goner. The woman spots Gloria and heads for her.

The remaining sicario catches up to Glo and pulls her gun. Move and I’ll shoot you and your kid! I guess Gloria has the dead sicario’s gun. She wheels around and fires a shot that grazes the woman. Glo warns, the next one goes between your eyes. The woman dares her.

Uh oh, Gloria is out of bullets. Gloria asks, who sent you? Duque? The woman’s not telling. Gloria tells her she was fooled into thinking she was a good person. Gloria sees that the woman is standing under some big object that is connected to a switch next to Glo. Glo presses the button and the sicario joins her partner in the next world.

Gloria runs to catch up with Dani and they get on the plane.

Laura has no money to buy food for her starving son’s breakfast. Bolillo shows up with tortas de tamal, aka, guajolota. Google tells me it is a common street food in CDMX. A tamal placed inside a roll. Laura is grateful and asks Bolillo to stay and eat. Miguel says Bolillo is his favorite among Laura’s friends.

Someone, guessing a subscriber, texts Yadi for a meet up. She thinks back to that creep that grabbed her on the street. She texts back she doesn’t meet anyone in person.

Ramona comes to Yadi to talk about the salon. Did you ask Gloria? Yes, Yadi replies, but Gloria is busy with Dani’s illness now. Ramona asks, where is she? Let’s talk to her. Thank goodness Yadi thinks first and stops short of giving more details.

Gloria speaks with the LA hospital administrator. He tells her the bill was settled. He places a big bag on the desk. Someone left it for her. Glo asks to see Dani and grandma before the surgery. He leaves the room to check, and Gloria unzips the bag. It’s the extra money Venancio supplied. There’s a note: “hope all goes well with your son, partner. I’ll see you the day you get back and not a second later.” Gloria wonders how much this favor will cost her.

Maribel and Juana read the news on the phone. The bodies of Diana and Milton (the sicarios) were found at the airport. Maribel is steamed. Juana recommended those two idiots that got themselves killed. Juana claims they are, uh, were the best. Maribel asks, who’s going to pay back the money I gave them? Juana replies, you don’t think this is my fault, do you? This karma doesn’t belong to me. Maribel answers, you and your damn karma will pay me back. [Start worrying, Juana.]

The torta is too spicy for Miguel’s liking. Generally speaking, Colombian food isn’t as spicy as Mexican. Bolillo offers to walk Miguel to school. Laura says it’s not necessary, he’s already done enough for them. Miguel wants Bolillo to come along. No pressure, Bolillo says, and he asks to use the bathroom.

Laura takes this opportunity to gently caution Miguel. People aren’t always as nice as they seem. Miguel can’t believe anything bad about Bolillo. What if you started dating him, Miguel asks, he’s really cool. Miguel uses the Mexican slang—“bien chido.” Laura tells him that Bolillo isn’t the saint he thinks he is. Miguel notes that he’s better than Perron, who hit her.

jefa #32 part 3

Ed brings breakfast to Amanda. Ed gently questions, the doctor said you felt sick because of something you ate or drank. Do you remember what it was? Amanda thinks back to the OJ. She freezes up and doesn’t answer the question. Ed probes, why aren’t you telling me? Amanda finally answers, it’s my fault Dad. I ate candy and didn’t tell Mom. But I feel better now. [how I wish the girl would tell someone.] Ed tells her to be careful not to overdo it. When you want something sweet, ask Mom or me. Amanda nods and adds a condition—stay with me forever. I love you so much, Dad.

Jacinto bursts into Luisa’s office. He’s upset. What’s this about the Cruz house burning? It was you! Are you crazy? Luisa laughs, I guess your wife ran and told you. She’s the one who’s crazy. Jacinto doesn’t care about Erna. He didn’t want any scandals. He put himself at risk for her! Luisa counters that it paid off. The people are happy, and his popularity is off the charts.

Jacinto asks Luisa why she did it. She replies, I don’t want anything that reminds me of her (Gloria). Set fire to Gloria, Jacinto shoots back, not the house. Luisa says they need to find the bitch first. Jacinto answers, we will. Your mom or stupid sister will lead us to her.

The assistant comes in and says there’s a reporter who wants to speak with Luisa about the fire. Tell him to go to hell, Luisa replies, I’m not in the mood for stupid questions.

Erna leaves a message for her mother. Hope all goes well, call me back. She proudly adds, I gave Luisa a piece of my mind yesterday [though she can’t afford it to lose any pieces.] It’s something I should have done a long time ago. Mom, I’m sorry… Voice message times out.

Mati and Dani are ready for surgery. Mati tries to keep Dani’s spirits up. He worries, what if something bad happens to you? Gloria comes in and says, nothing will happen. She kisses her mom and thanks her. It means everything to her. Mati says, I told them if anything goes wrong, save Dani first. Dani asks to hold grandma’s hand. The three hold hands. Gloria says, we’ll always be like this forever. You two mean everything to me. Grandma and Dani head to the operating room.

Bolillo visits Perron. His release will be delayed. The judge couldn’t be bribed. Bolillo says he hopes Perron can get out soon to keep an eye on Laura. It’s that cop, Nino. He’s been hanging around a lot and told her you made a lot of calls to the US. Laura gave him Arturo’s name. Perron is seething—I’ll kill her. I’ll tear her guts out with my teeth. Bolillo responds, calm down. The cop pressured her. She told him there’s no way you and Arturo know each other. Perron simmers down. He asks if Bolillo got the house keys. Yes, Bolillo assures, I’m on your side.

Venancio speaks with Arturo about making inroads in LA. If Arturo can, he will get Venancio’s full support. If not, the path leads straight to the cemetery. The henchie vouches for Arturo. Art’s got a bunch of kids working for him. Art says the cops don’t suspect the kids. Even if they get caught, they’re released quickly. Venancio warns him not to betray him or he’s dead. Art assures Venancio of his loyalty. All he wants is to grow his business and one day have his son run it.

Gloria checks in with Ed. He’s sorry he can’t be with her. She understands. He tells her he has a bit of unfinished business left. She worries he’s thinking about getting more money. They don’t need it. Venancio came through. We’ve got a bag full of cash. He asks, are you sure Duque sent those two to kill you? She replies, if not him, then Jacinto. Ed says he’s got to do something to calm Duque since he has his merch. Ed won’t say more.

jefa #32 part 4

Desperate Laura tells Yadi she can’t even feed her son. She was lucky Bolillo came. Yadi cautions her—Bolillo? What are you doing accepting help from that thug? Laura says that Bolillo has been very nice. Miguel is getting fond of him. Yadi reminds her of the crimes he committed for Maribel. He can’t be trusted. Laura agrees. But the reason she came is that she’s interested in the online work Yadi does. She’s willing to give it a try.

Nino comes to see Perron. He heard Perron is trying to get out on bail. If you cooperate with me, Nino says, I’ll even give you a hand at your hearing. Perron laughs. Nino asks, who have you been calling in the US? Who are you calling in LA? Perron snarks, I didn’t know making international calls was a crime. I’m not the only Mexican with relatives in LA. Nino asks for the relatives’ numbers. Not possible, Perron says, they are illegal and don’t have phones. No matter, Nino answers, Interpol will give him the numbers and he will call each one personally. Perron dares Nino. Nino responds, soon we will know who your accomplice is in LA. Perron looks worried.

Gloria checks in at the front desk for surgery status. No info yet, but the nurse has Mati’s phone and hands it over. It’s been ringing. Gloria calls Erna. Erna asks how’s mom? Is she out of surgery? Not yet, Glo replies. Erna asks, what hospital are you in?

Glo’s not telling—if Jacinto or Laura find out… Erna says she’s alone. Gloria doesn’t believe her. You haven’t behaved like a sister. I expect it from Luisa, who was obsessed with JJ, but you? Erna replies, it hasn’t been easy for me to be the one that everyone ignores, the invisible daughter. Gloria is sorry Erna feels like that. She says, if you had trusted me enough to talk to me or try to get closer… Gloria stops because she worried the phone might be bugged. Erna swears the phone isn’t bugged. She’s worried about mom. And she’s worried about Dani, too. Gloria says she will have mom call as soon as she can.

Yadi preps Laura to shoot a video. Her account will be called “The Passionate Colombian”. Laura thinks that’s too much, but Yadi has worse choices. Anyway, time to start filming. Yadi directs Laura, get loose and act sexy. Laura has trouble following directions.

Nino meets Ed by the hijacked truck. Nino updates Ed. He spoke to Laura about a possible contact of Perron’s in the US. Perron denied everything. Nino asks about the hijacked merch. Ed says he hid it all. His plan is to pay back Duque with a profit. Nino reminds Ed that Duque will kill him. Ed says not if he triples the value of the merch. It will calm Duque and keep him away from his wife and kid.

Nino asks, what does your family have to do with this? Ed tells him Duque showed up and spoke to Vero. Nino can’t believe this happened. How are you going to move those drugs, he asks Ed, who would you sell to?

The reporter barges into Luisa’s office, while the assistant went to the ladies’ room. This will only take a few minutes, he says, and places a phone to record the convo. He starts, why did you burn down the Cruz house? I didn’t burn anything, Luisa replies, it was an accident. That’s strange, the reporter says, the officials I spoke to told me it was arson. Do you suspect anyone? Luisa asks him to leave, or she’ll call security. The reporter continues, people voted for you for your compassion. Luisa plays offended. The reporter answers, I’m merely describing you and something tells me you’re not the good person you let on to be.

Yadi tries to get Laura to loosen up and dances with her. Laura gets uncomfortable when Yadi gets too close for her comfort. [Actually, I thought if they were together in a video, that would get a lot of views.] Yadi gets a mask. Maybe that will help Laura.

jefa #32 part 5

Ed doesn’t want to give Nino too many details. He doesn’t want to get Nino in trouble. It’s bad enough they meet like this. Nino cautions, dealing with Duque is crazy. Ed says he has no choice. Work has taught him a lot and he will use that knowledge to save his family. Nino is extremely alarmed—you’re a former police captain who is working his way to being a drug dealer. We both know how that ends! Jail or death! Ed repeats he has no choice, his daughter’s life is at risk.

Arturo walks with Miguel. The boy is reluctant to go with him. He doesn’t want to have problems with his mom. She found the soccer ball. Art gives crappy advice, you’re a man, you shouldn’t let any woman scold you. It’s not that, Miguel says, mom is upset because we’re broke. Why didn’t you say so, Art replies, I have a way for you to make money and help your mom. Would you like to work for me? We don’t hear an answer.

Nope, the mask doesn’t help. Laura starts to cry. She can’t get naked on camera. Yadi tells her she doesn’t have to remove her clothes. It could work, some men like a little mystery. Laura is unsure.

The reporter continues, I noticed how many conflicts you had with family on election day…your mother, your sister Gloria. Luisa says her personal life is no one’s business. I’m not a celebrity that people want to gossip about. Not so, the reporter tells her. You’re a public servant, which is why I’ve been investigating you. I found strange things. Starting with the accident that paralyzed you and your husband died.

Luisa responds, how dare you speak about that? The reporter notes that the police report is riddled with inconsistencies. It doesn’t mention the location of the accident. No witnesses were questioned. And then there’s the fire. Luisa asks, what are you trying to say? The reporter answers, Tijuana doesn’t deserve a mayor that lies and is unstable enough to set fire to a house.

Luisa shuts off the reporter’s phone. Be direct, she says, you want money, don’t you? Surprising as it may seem, he replies, some journalists are not for sale. Have a nice day. He leaves. [how long before he turns up dead?]

Gloria nervously waits for the transplant news. The surgeon finally appears. Doctor, how are my mother and son? The doctor gives a big sigh.

And we are out.

Dondi, I am still reading your excellent recap, but I had to comment on one line that I am going to save ..." You've always been an idiot , But I've never Said anything " ...wow..just wow. That Luisa is something else .

"JEFA"
Dondi356: Gut feeling that journalist will end up DEAD sooner or later. Luisa is getting all uppity. Does she want to be President of Mexico too ?

Dondi, thank you for two great recaps of two dark and dangerous episodes. So many villains . ugh

Super Gloria kills Maribel's three assassins . What a girl !!!

Is Nino the first good cop we have encountered? How long will he stay good?

Erna, the dim bulb wants to be forgiven.

How can Laura trust Bollilo? In or out of prison, Perron is scary.

I am trying to figure out how Gloria goes from where she is now to where we saw her in the first episode where she seemed to be working with the cops. Susan

Wow! Another stellar recap, dondi. Soooo many great asides. Thanks so very much!

Great minds, etc. I also gave Luisa some props for preventing Duque from hurting Amparo and had started to make a note about that and then read your perfect description.

This whole Duque/Luisa thing makes no sense to me. I can see what's in it for her, the sex. But he's been shown having hot and cold running beauties showing up at all hours. He already has Jacinto in his pocket; so is the mayor of Tijuana that useful? Or maybe he's a sick puppy enjoying bedding a paraplegic? And Luisa doesn't have security? He just shows up...whenever.
I did love Duque telling Luisa how inferior to her sister she is.

I'll bet Yany Prado really enjoyed filming those naughty schoolgirl/sexy nurse scenes.

Hmmm. Los Angeles hospitals apparently don't blink an eye at receiving $250K cash balance on a surgery and then giving the balance to the patient's mother.

Looks like Maribel is becoming the new Queen Bee of the women's prison. She's no longer subservient to the other woman who had that role before.

It's driving me nuts that these writers won't let us enjoy even for one episode Laura's reunion with Miguel. Oh no! It's got to be constant tension about whether Arturo will be able to grab him up.

Amanda is making a big mistake covering up for her ghastly mother. If she told the truth, Ed would get custody immediately. OTOH, he's playing fast and loose since he accepted being fired, so hard to tell if she'd be better off with him.

I am losing hope for Bolillo helping Laura and Miguel. He's still visiting Perron and cooperating.

Big reveal last night about Arturo also being in the drug trade. Before he just seemed like he suddenly had a mid-life crisis and wanted to have a child in his life.

Yes, another plot point came around last night. We saw that reporter at the fancy restaurant where Luisa was being celebrated as the new mayor. He saw the family drama and smells a really good story.

Thanks for the comments, Steve, Susan and novelera.

Steve, this is going to have a high body count before it ends. It would be interesting to have Luisa and Jacinto compete for most corrupt Mexican president.

“I am trying to figure out how Gloria goes from where she is now to where we saw her in the first episode…” Desperate circumstances, Susan. Same with Ed’s situation, look how fast he fell. It started when he ran over Daniel.

“This whole Duque/Luisa thing makes…” … me nauseous, novelera! I suppose Luisa can be useful to him outside the bedroom. And he is a “sick puppy”.

“Los Angeles hospitals apparently don't blink an eye at receiving $250K cash balance on a surgery and then giving the balance to the patient's mother.” That was a real beanie moment!

A Maribel – Juana showdown will be interesting and probably bloody.

“I am losing hope for Bolillo helping Laura and Miguel.” Don’t lose hope, novelera. Something might spark his conscience.

I fear for that reporter. I hope he gets to publish his exposé. Is there a Mexican equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize? We might have to award it posthumously.

OT Caray Caray Awards

Hello Telemundo patio! A call to action! I’d like to submit these for consideration. What do you think? Any suggestions for the best couple in El Conde? I think I liked the young couples better than the adults. Maybe there should be a category for “most disgusting pareja”. I can think of candidates for that! I didn’t watch Sed so I can’t comment. Gracias, Dondi. Back-to-back super recapping.

I have a crockpot theory that Venancio either has a history with Matilde or with Juan Jose.

El Duque is the worst, but I see him as adventurous when it comes to bed partners. He and loca L

[El Duque] and loca Luisa have connected on another level, unlike his other chicks. Of course, one day one of them will take the other out.

Why in the world would Laura trust Bollilo? Not liking her looking so stupid after what she's been through.
