Thanks SO much for the excellent recap, dondi. I'm a bit pressed for time as my Zoom book group is about to start in 10 minutes. We read Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers. It's kind of a cozy mystery. Believe there's a recognized category for that. I was meh, but I'll try not to throw cold water on the member who suggested it.

It was SO ridiculous all those scenes of Duque and his henchie peeking around the corner at the hospital and no one taking any notice.

Niecie, I also believed Dani had died. That sobbing on the supposed corpse was well acted. How did they get the doctor to play along, saying how the transplant had failed?

Yep, Bacalau is now going to be trying to sabotage Gloria at every juncture.

I wasn't sure if Ed would be saved, but the inmate's plan for slow torture was completely stupid. You'd think they'd just shank him the way he did with Perrón.

So, is this it for Glo and Ed? She wasn't best pleased she couldn't reach him after the funeral wreath event. She looks like she's flying away...somewhere.

I hope we'll find out what's on Ramona's video.

I HATE, HATE, HATE what they're doing with Yadira, having that horrible guy after her. Like a lot of things, this isn't well written. If he's that obsessed with Yadi, why did it take over 35 episodes for Martí to rear his ugly head?

Thanks everyone.

I figured Dani wouldn’t die based on what I know from the original, so I didn’t comment. Anyway, it’s always suspicious when you don’t clearly see a dead body. Remember what they did with Sofia in LRDS?

Glad Perron is gone. Let’s get rid of Bolillo next.

We briefly saw a recording that Ramona had of Maribel’s backroom procedures. Maybe that’s when she killed Olga or Caro. I noticed that Perron and Bolillo were present. Bolillo is the only one left. Wonder how Ramona will use this info.

I guess they had to wait until Yadi found herself a great boyfriend to bring back Martin.

Susan, I can’t blame you for not wanting to watch.

I’ll post a quick Thursday recap later today.

"JEFA"
Novelera: How much turmoil can Gloria take ?

Dondi356: I didn't even bother watching because I watched the defending National Champion LSU Women's Gymnastics Team getting knocked out of the Semifinals last night by Utah & UCLA.

jefa #41 part 1

Mati explains to the kids that they are on this plane to finish the game they started in the apartment when the ambulance picked them up. We see how Bocho got Dani out of the hospital by hiding him in a laundry basket.

Amanda asks if her dad will come with them. Of course, Gloria answers, we’ll fly to LA when he gets here. You will spend time there, living with grandma. Mati says she has permission from Judge Ramos to care for Amanda. Dani asks Gloria, aren’t you going to stay with us? Glo says she can’t, she has to work in Mexico.

Yadi notices that Ramona has a flash drive. Videos I got from Bernardo, the veterinarian, Ramona replies. Yadi remembers him from the salon. Ramona continues, Maribel recorded everything. Here are all the videos of all that happened in the salon and the operating room. There are even videos of Perron removing the Piñero sisters’ bodies. Yadi is impressed that Ramona acquired this info.

Laura comes rushing into the salon with the terrible news that Dani has died. [how did she know to come to the salon and get in through the back door?]

Miguel packs a bag to leave but is caught by Arturo. The boy doesn’t like LA. He doesn’t understand anyone. You can’t go, Art tells him, with what money? Miguel says he will surrender to immigration. He wants to go back to Colombia. You’re not going anywhere, Art replies, you’re with me forever. Art delivers the awful truth—I’m your father, your blood.

Duque gets an update on Ed’s prison experience. He thinks Estrada stepped in to save Ed. The henchie says at least Gloria’s son is dead. Duque has some doubts about that. He didn’t see the boy. The docs and nurses were all around. The henchie saw the urn but not the body. Duque wants confirmation.

Bolillo has been summoned to Duque. He tells Bolillo that Dani died but he can’t be sure. I want details, Duque says, find out everything you can. I need to know if the kid is really dead.

Gloria wants Dani to study and learn English in LA. Dani worries he won’t see his mother. She assures him she will come often with Ed. Mati is going to take the kids to Disneyland, and they are thrilled. Ed and Nino get on the plane. Glo is told that Perron is dead. Nino says the plan worked but Duque’s guys showed up and he had to rescue Ed.

Art feeds Miguel a bunch of lies. I fell in love with your mother in this country. When she was pregnant with you, she said she wanted to go back to Colombia. I told her not to, but she escaped without warning. I went crazy. Not a day went by that I didn’t look for you. The worst part is that your mother took you from me and left you in Colombia to go to Mexico. At times I think she did it out of pure evil.

Miguel stands up for Laura. Don’t mess with my mom,“ she’s been “una bacana (really cool person) conmigo.” Relax, Art replies, I have no ill will toward your mother. I really want to help bring her to LA. Miguel asks, why should I believe any of this? Art pulls out his phone and shows a pic of him and Laura in happier times. This was taken the day she got pregnant. Miguel doesn’t know what to think.

Laura cries as she relates what happened at the hospital. There’s no funeral, just the cremation. Yadi is very upset at all this news, but it looks like Ramona is taking it in and thinking. That louse Bolillo shows up. Unfortunately, Laura called him to come. She cries to him, Gloria’s son died and I’m afraid the same will happen to mine. I'll die.

jefa #41 part 2

Gloria speaks to Estrada. What do you mean the deal with the gringos fell through? I arranged it myself for the merch to be unloaded at Guaymas. Estrada says the gringos didn’t accept the delay or port change. It cost $70 million. Glo says Duque had Manzanillo shut down. Estrada thinks this was revenge for Marlin and he questions if Gloria knew Marlin was Duque’s brother. She had no idea.

Estrada says now she’s even with Duque. Gloria thinks not. Duque tried to kill Eduardo, too. He calls Dani the most expensive kid he’s ever met. It cost $70 million. [what if we do a shot each time Estrada mentions the $70 million?] She thanks Estrada for helping to get Dani out of Mexico. She wants to pay him back for the favor. I have a way of retrieving the merch and getting back your money, she says. I’ll call and tell you when I land in LA.

Glo hangs up and turns to Ed—I need your help selling 3 tons of coke. I don’t want to get my hands dirty selling drugs, but I owe Estrada. Can you reach out to the people that bought Duque’s 3 tons? Leave it to me, Ed replies, with our kids safe, nothing can stop us.

Bolillo offers to take Laura home. Yadi asks him not to tell anyone that she and Ramona are at the salon. Ramona tells Yadi to pull herself together for her date. Go tell the truth to the man you love.

The new place in LA is beautiful but the kids are unhappy their parents won’t be with them. Gloria tells the kid that all this is secret, no one else can know. I guess this is the new game—they will pretend to be spies. She gives them US passports with new identities.

Yadi meets Gael at the restaurant. He asks if she’s been crying. She tells him about Dani. He tells her, I’m here for you. Yadira, I’m serious about you. I want to be with you for the rest of my life [let’s hope that lasts longer than a couple of episodes.]

Bolillo is plying Laura with alcohol. She’s already done 4 shots. She’s worried about Miguel. Bolillo begins, you know what you need, a real man to look after you. Women who are alone… “ya sabes que más de uno se quiere pasar de listo, no?” [You know that more than one person wants to be clever. Meaning to deceive or take advantage of.] Telemundo translated this “you have to deal with all kinds of scumbags. (Like Bolillo.)

Bolillo touches Laura’s hair. She regrets her rotten luck with men. Not all of us are degenerates like Arturo or Perron, Bolillo replies, some of us are nice. He offers more alcohol.

The doorbell rings, it’s Nino and Laura lets him in. If looks could kill, both Nino and Bolillo would be dead.

Yadi can’t eat. Gael understands it’s because of her friend’s son. Yadi talks a little bit about Dani. They had fun together. Gael listens intently and says supportive things. Yadi sweetly says, oh, Gael, I’ve never known anyone as sensitive as you. Oh no, Yadi spots Martin at a distant table.

Bolillo gets snarky with Nino. Do you have news? Why else come here? Nino addresses Laura, I came to tell you that Perron was found dead in prison. He can’t hurt you anymore. That’s a shocker for both Laura and Bolillo.

Laura asks if Nino was able to get any information about Miguel. No, Nino replies, I didn’t get the chance to interrogate him. Laura gets angry and gives Nino a shove. You’re the worst cop on the planet! You let my son get kidnapped and you let them kill the only person who knew anything! You could have called instead of coming! I came because I thought you’d be upset, Nino answers. I heard about Gloria’s son. But I didn’t think this (Bolillo) is the company you’d be keeping. Laura pushes Nino again. Yes, I have plenty of company, she says, get going. I don’t want to talk to you again. Bolillo can hardly contain his happiness.

jefa #41 part 3

Gael notes that Yadi looks pale. She excuses herself to use the restroom. Martin follows her in. He says, you know I cant stand seeing you with somebody else. You’re mine.

Glo and Ed talk about the kids. It will be hard for them to adapt. It will be hard for Glo to be without Dani. Ed says they will get through this together. Parents do all they can for their kids, even if it means being away from them. Glo is glad she saved Dani’s life but also feels like she’s ruined it. Ed says don’t think about the past. It’s only useful so we remember not to make the same mistakes.

Yadi tries to get away from Martin. He tells her, you’re going to do what I say. He licks her neck. She pushes him away. Are you following me? What you’re doing is sick. I am sick, he replies, because you ruined my life. I’m following you because I have a fantasy I want to make real. [Sex in a public restroom?] He threatens to tell Gael she’s a slut who sells herself online.

Laura is very drunk and spills some alcohol. She launches into pity party territory. Her terrible life. She asks, Jesus, can you cut me a break? Bolillo cautions that the big man upstairs might hear and punish her. She whines, what more can He do? More about Miguel’s kidnapping, etc… [I’m trying to be sympathetic but I’m getting tired of typing the same things over and over.]

Ed points out a place where they can take Estrada’s merch. It’s where all the small-time drug dealers in LA meet. He’ll handle it.

Fercho comes to see Glo and Ed. Fercho leaves with Ed. Before Glo goes with them, she tells Bocho not to let anyone in. Over my dead body, he replies.

Laura continues, my father abandoned me when I was 6. Arturo kicked me in the butt. He had me deported when he found out I was pregnant. And Perron… he beat me. Bolillo is listening. [I never can tell if any of this affects him at all.] Bolillo says Perron got what he deserved. He moves his chair closer to Laura. He tells her he’s different from the rest. I’m here for whatever you need, and I’ll never hurt you. Ask me for whatever you want, and I’ll do it, babe. He puts his arm around her and pulls her head onto his shoulder.

Yadi says she won’t give into blackmail. Everyone posts online. Does everyone also sleep with their followers for money, Martin asks. Yadi denies that. Martin says he was in contact with a follower who was very proud to meet her in person. He shared this video. We see the video and flashback.

Martin tells her she was stupid to trust a stranger who recorded and shared the video with everybody. Martin threatens to show Gael. Luckily, they are interrupted by a woman. She tells Martin to leave before she has the manager call the cops. Martin leaves and the woman asks Yadi if she’s okay. Forget that jerk, tell him to go to Hell.

Erna comes to see Jacinto in his home office. She suggests something to take the boredom out of their marriage… a cruise. [Why she wants to spend any time with him, I’ll never know.] He says it’s not a bad idea… the Caribbean… Alaska. She thinks it could be a second honeymoon. He bursts her bubble. I’d like to do that but not with you. She backs away and asks, when will you stop humiliating me?

jefa #41 part 4

Bocho makes nice with the cook in the kitchen. Mati walks in on them but before she can say anything, she gets a call from miserable Erna. Can you talk? Mati is alarmed, are you crying? What happened? A fight with Luisa? Erna chalks it up to allergies. She adds, I really miss you and I feel so alone. How is Daniel? How are you? Mati demands the truth. What did Jacinto do to you? I need you, Erna replies, I don’t exist to Jacinto. Life seems pointless now. Luisa is fueled by hate and bitterness, but I’m just in the way. Nobody cares about me. Tell me where you are so I can go to you. Mati stays strong, I’m really sorry, honey, but I can’t tell you that. Erna says that Jacinto is right, nobody cares about me, not even you. She hangs up.

Fercho points out a house in a dangerous neighborhood. Ed says he’s going in. Fercho and Gloria should wait. Glo wants to go with Ed. She promised Estrada she’d close the deal. Ed says no way and goes. Fercho asks, what kind of deal? Better you don’t know, Glo replies. She asks Fercho to set a timer. Glo tells Fercho that Dani died. He hugs her.

Arturo exits the house that Ed entered. Fercho points him out—that’s the guy who took Miguel. He has Laura’s son.

Yadi returns to the table. Gael apologizes, he asked for the check since Yadi was gone so long. It’s okay, she says, I’m feeling nauseous. He asks, should I take you to the doctor? No, she replies, can we go? Martin comes to their table and greets Gael, who calls him Pascal. Gael introduces Yadira and says Pascal is a client. Martin holds his hand out for Yadi to shake. He asks if he could join them. Yadi quickly says they were leaving.

Bolillo keeps giving Laura alcohol. She realizes it’s late. She tells Bolillo he should go. I don’t want to leave, he says, I want to stay and take care of you. Laura thinks out loud, you know who could help me find my kid? Gloria. She said she’d help. Bolillo asks if she saw Gloria’s son. Did you see his dead body? Why are you asking such an awful question, Laura replies.

Gloria asks Fercho, are you sure it’s Arturo, Laura’s ex? I don’t know who he is, Fercho replies, but I’ve seen him with Miguel plenty of times. Gloria heads towards the group of men despite Fercho’s warnings. Arturo approaches her, what are you doing out here alone, babe?

Gloria points a gun at him. Where’s the kid that you stole? Where is Laura’s son? Tell me or I’ll blow your head off. Arturo says he knows nothing. I’m talking about Miguel, Laura Rojas’ son, she replies. The child you stole from CDMX. The other men come running with guns out, to help Art. Fercho runs to Gloria’s side. Arturo easily swipes the gun from Glo’s hand. He says, let’s see if you’re brave without your gun.

Bolillo is sorry for the stupid question. It’s morbid, Laura says, how could you ask if I saw Dani’s body? He makes a lame excuse. More of Laura’s endless repetition of self-pity and guys that done her wrong. Bolillo caresses Laura’s face. Laura, you’re a very pretty woman, and you’re a fighter, too. She smiles, you say such nice things to me. You’re a nice guy.

Bolillo rushes in with a kiss. Laura is taken aback. What was that? I wanted to show you how I feel, Bolillo says, I really like you, Laura. I want to be with you, to take care of you, and make you feel good. He nuzzles Laura’s neck. Do you really mean that, she asks, or are you just trying to sleep with me? [I hope she snaps out of it and pushes him away!]

jefa #41 part 5

Fercho speaks up. Relax… I told her you had Miguel, Laura’s son. For some reason that’s enough for Art and the guys back off. Art even gives Glo back her gun. Art states, Miguel is my son. Oh yeah, Glo replies, some father he got stuck with. You stole him from Laura, the woman who raised him. Art answers, tell Laura that Miguel is with his father and that he’s an American citizen. If she wants him back, she can hire a lawyer.

Jacinto and Rocio go at it. Erna listens at the door as those two laugh about Erna wanting to take a cruise. Erna enters the room. You don’t even bother to lock the door anymore! You’re garbage, Jacinto!

Art tells Glo to be grateful she wasn’t killed. This is the first and last time we’ll see each other. You’re going to see more of me, Glo answers, because I’m going to make sure you return Miguel to her. Arturo dares her, you and who else? He offers his phone to call the cops. Tell them to arrest me for kidnapping my own son.

And we are out.

Jefa

Dondi, thank you for another excellent review as we roll along . I watched this episode. No deaths but lots of guns .

So many disgusting guys. Jacinto is an arrogant , awful little man. I can't wait to see him get his anvil .
I hope that Laura doesn't fall for Bollilos lies ...little worm. Laura has terrible taste in men . Susan

jefa

Gracias, Dondi. Super job. "[I’m trying to be sympathetic but I’m getting tired of typing the same things over and over.]" -- ITA, Laura is wearing me down with her repetition.

I guess it was supposed to be gutsy when Glo pointed a gun at Arturo with his cronies, but that was reckless and stupid. I'm amazed Arturo let it go.

I remember the Martin actor from a TN where he was a Yakuza member (tatooed all over) but had a heart of gold with his sweetheart. Total opposite of this creep.

Poor Erna. She reached out to her mom too late. Poor mom too, not being able to help Erna now.

Novelera, I've read Jesse Q. Sutanto's Vera Wong's "Unsolicited Advice for Murders" and "Dial A for Aunties." Your term "cozy" is a good description for Aunties too.

OT

Wow, Niecie. Online coincidences amaze me. I guess I like my mysteries a bit more chilling. I realize Dial A for Aunties was a big hit. One of the book club friends said that both books had been "optioned" for movies and/or streaming series. Of course, signing the rights away by an author and the production actually bearing fruit are often two different things.

jefa

Wow, dondi. Your energy amazes me. I've already explained my recapping method. Watch it all the way through and then slowly move through it, rewatching and writing what I want to say in longhand with a fountain pen. Are you dictating? Jarifa mentioned that that's how she did long recaps for El Extraño Retorno de Diana Salazar. In any case, we definitely appreciate what you're doing!

So, if the videos Ramona was SO determined to get are of bad things regarding botched medical procedures, what's the point? Both Maribel and Perrón are dead.

Sigh. I'm tired of Duque being preternaturally intelligent. I wanted him to immediately believe Dani died and stop obsessing.

Regarding Bolillo, self-respecting lice would start a petition asking Telemundo (and/or dondi) to never refer to him as a louse.

I'd be up for those shots every time Venancio Estrada moans about his $70 million. But I'd be worried about behaving like Laura. Thank God Bolillo doesn't live in Califas to show up when I pound back shots!

I think dondi and I are both wishing every episode that Bolillo would bite the dust. There's another insect he's like: a cockroach that doesn't ever die. And I'm pretty sure that, should Bolillo get his way with Laura, he'd soon treat her the way he did his other girlfriend, the one Maribel killed off.

I'm really getting impatient for Gloria and/or Ed to grab up Miguel and ship him back to his mother.

Amen on why in blazes would Erna want to go on a cruise with one of the least attractive men I've seen in a novela.

Come on, writers! Give Laura and Erna some backbone!

"JEFA"
Dondi356: Thanks for the super-long recap of last night's episode. Grossed out seeing Martin the freak licking all over Yadi YUCK.

Novelera: I just don't see Laura getting any backbone because the writers want to see some folks miserable.

Gut feeling that one of the kids will slip up & open their big mouths.

Niecie: Who do you think is the Big Boss behind Creepy Duque & Co., ?

jefa

Thanks everyone.

I take notes on my laptop as I watch. Then I go back and fill in the notes, maybe add some asides, while rewatching certain scenes to pick up anything I missed or to include more detail. I’ll proofread before posting. I never thought about dictating. Maybe I should try that. Jarifa’s recaps are great.

Niecie, I am really getting tired of all the repetitive dialog/scenes. I’m getting ready to use “blah, blah, blah”, in my recaps.

“So, if the videos Ramona was SO determined to get are of bad things regarding botched medical procedures, what's the point? Both Maribel and Perrón are dead.” I thought the same thing too, novelera, but Bolillo was in the video we briefly saw and maybe there were other useful things we didn’t see yet.

“I'd be up for those shots every time Venancio Estrada moans about his $70 million. But I'd be worried about behaving like Laura.” LOL

My apologies to lice, not to Bolillo. He’s been very clever at playing all sides so far. Still wondering if there will be redemption or an anvil for him.

Friday recap will be up later today.

jefa #42 part 1

I thought this was a very disturbing episode.

Arturo dares Gloria to call the cops. Fercho reminds her he’s undocumented. Art puts the phone away and tells Glo MYOB. Miguel is his issue. Glo warns him this is not over.

Ed exits the house and asks what happened. Glo says, I’ll tell you later. Did you sell the merch? Yes, Ed replies, the gringos want it. [A group of small-time dealers have the means to buy 3 tons of coke?]

Gael and Yadi arrive at his house. She’s still shaken. He offers to take care of her and pamper her all night. She gets upset and runs to the bathroom. She recalls Martin’s threats at the restaurant. Gael knocks on the door. Are you okay? Did I do something wrong? No, Yadi replies, maybe it was something I ate. Gael says he’ll go to the pharmacy for her.

Erna grabs Rocio and shouts, how dare you fool around with my husband? Get out of my house! [imagine these two fighting over that POS Jacinto.] Jacinto separates them and shouts, she (Rocio) isn’t going anywhere! Erna is shocked at his defense of Rocio. Stop being dramatic, he continues, you know men go looking for what they don’t get at home. Erna snaps back, you’re the one that doesn’t want to sleep with me! How could you… with the maid?

Jacinto says Rocio is a good cook and a much better woman. If you don’t like it, you can go! Go to your sister Luisa or your crazy sister Gloria! Rocio is staying as long as I want. Note Rocio smirking in the background. Erna leaves with her tail between her legs. [Ay, cut your losses Erna, leave the abuser and find that investigative reporter, pronto.]

Gael leaves the building, and we see Martin lurking. He takes the opportunity to enter the building as someone exits. Yadi thinks it’s Gael returning when the door buzzes. Did you forget your keys? She opens the door [It looked like a peephole viewer was on the door. Why didn’t she use it? Why didn’t she ask who’s there?] Martin forces his way in. This is too terrible to describe. He intends to rape her.

Mati calls Luisa. I’m calling because I need your help with Ernestina. I was very worried when I spoke to her earlier. You stopped caring about us, Luisa replies. Mati doesn’t want to fight, she needs Luisa to help her sister. Luisa says, Erna is your daughter. She learned to keep secrets from you. Speaking of which, are you going to tell me where you and Gloria are hiding? Mati tries to tell her about Dani but Luisa interrupts—it’s always about Glo and Dani. If you really cared about Erna, you’d come back to Tijuana. She hangs up. [what did Mati expect from this witch?]

Thank goodness Gael returns before Martin can do anything. Yadira? Pascal?

Nooo… Laura and Bolillo had sex. She feels guilty—I’m doing this, and my son is missing. Bolillo says they’ve done nothing wrong. He misses Miguel, too. Laura imagines her son will be happy when he returns to see that she’s with Bolillo. She asks for confirmation, we are together now, right? He says of course. She asks, promise me you won’t let me down, [too late], that you won’t hit me [we’ll see]. Bolillo says he will never hurt her.

jefa #42 part 2

Gael is stunned speechless. Martin fixes his pants and says, come in, this is your house… literally. We were just talking. Gael asks Yadi, what is he doing here? Yadi starts to explain but Martin takes over. What’s there to explain? It’s clear. What do you think we were doing? Gael asks, why are you with my girlfriend? How did this happen? I just introduced you at the restaurant, Pascal. That’s the problem, Martin says, I’m not Pascal. I’m Martin. Gael thinks back to what Gloria’s mom said about Yadi’s ex. Gael asks Yadi, Martin… your ex?

Art describes Glo and Fercho to Miguel. He says, the boys saw them, too. If they or I catch you talking to those people, you’ll never see your mom again. You wouldn't like it if I got angry. Do what I say, and everything will be fine. Aren’t you happy that I’m your real father? Miguel answers, my real father wouldn’t put me to work doing bad things. Art replies, you forgot how well we got along when we first met. You sold everything I gave you.

It was fun then, Miguel says, not anymore. I want to be with my mom. That’s not possible, Art replies, your mom is in jail. Like it or not, you’re my son. Miguel fires back—and you’re a bastard! Art lifts the kid by the collar of his sweatshirt and says, you’re making me treat you like this.

Martin says they were reminiscing about old times. Yadira likes to relive the past. No… no, Yadira interjects. Martin asks if Gael knows why their wedding was called off. It turns out that Yadi likes to get naked online and, for the right amount, have sex with her clients. Gael tells Martin to shut up—Respect her! Martin laughs and says there’s a video of her having sex for money. I have it on my phone. How about we ask the lady?

Art accuses Miguel of provoking him. Never insult me again, got it? He pushes Miguel onto the couch. Miguel threatens to tell the cops Art kidnapped him. Art warns, if you cross that line, I’ll kill your mother. I know inmates at the prison she’s in. It’ll take one phone call. He raises his hand as if to strike but doesn’t.

Glo and Ed return to the house. The kids are happy to see them. Dani wants Glo to stay and sleep with him, but she says she and Ed have to go to Mexico. You’ll be with Grandma and Amanda. The kids don’t want them to go. Ed explains to Dani that it’s good he stays so he can study and have a better life. You’ll thank your mom when you’re all grown up. Dani insists he’s already grown up.

Gael asks Yadira, tell me it’s not true so I can kick this POS out. I’m sorry, Gael, she answers, I’m sorry. And she runs out of the apartment. Martin follows her. Gael is devastated. [let’s hope he comes around after this initial shock.]

Yadi tells Martin that he won. She lost Gael. Martin says, he caught you cheating, like you cheated on me. I never cheated, Yadi replies, I don’t give a damn if you believe me. You don’t exist to me. You disgust me. Martin says they are even now. Gael knows you’re a prostitute and the thought of kissing you will disgust him. Yadi swears she will make Martin pay.

Glo is upset that Dani said he hates her. Ed says, he’s a kid, he’ll get over it. [I’ll agree with Ed. I think many parents have heard this at one time or another. You don’t have to be a narco.] Glo laments that Dani had to grow up too fast. Change of topic. Glo asks, is everything ready with Estrada? Yep.

Laura wakes up alone in bed and thinks Bolillo left without saying goodbye. Nope, Bolillo got up to prepare breakfast. Laura thinks the night might have been a mistake. I never imagined you and I… it’s not right. There’s my son, you were Susi’s boyfriend, she was my friend. We messed up. Bolillo says that Susi is dead and, truthfully, she never really liked him. She was with Fercho. Don’t feel guilty.

jefa #42 part 3

Laura says she can’t have fun while her son is still missing. Bolillo tells her you have to go on with your life. Keep looking for your son, but at least you know he’s with his dad. Laura says, you don’t know Arturo. That man doesn’t love anyone. Even his shadow flees in terror. You don’t understand because you have a big heart. I don’t understand why everyone thinks so poorly of you. Laura adds she knows he’s not a saint but… Bolillo says people criticize me without knowing me. But you know what I’m like deep down. [not yet but we hope soon.] Bolillo is ready to go another round with Laura.

Glo tells Estrada she used the million he gave her on her family and stuff. Estrada says he doesn’t need to know. It was a tip for the badass job she did--both of them. Estrada is impressed, he’s never worked with such an efficient couple Ed says his years in the FGR weren’t for nothing. Glo gives Ed his props, too. Just one more thing Estrada says: my $70 million. How are you getting me my money? How will you launder it, where will you keep it? Glo says they will cross the border with it.

Jacinto breaks up another argument between Erna and Rocio. He reminds Erna that Rocio is staying, and she can go if she doesn’t like it. She reminds him they are still married. Don’t give me any ideas, he replies, I don’t owe you anything. [would he have her killed?] You’re so worthless you couldn’t even give me a child. A divorce would tarnish your image, Erna answers. He brings up Gloria. Don’t you realize that I’m ashamed of you? He tells Erna he’s taking the primary bedroom, and she can take the guest room if she wants to stay.

Glo and Ed enter the salon through the front door. They find Yadi and Ramona there. Yadi runs to Gloria. She’s been trying to contact her since she heard about Dani. Ed tells the ladies that he and Glo bought the salon. Workers start bringing stuff in. They are going to sell clothes. Laura arrives with Bolillo. Bolillo gives his condolences to Glo. Glo asks, what are you doing here? Laura says he was with her when Glo texted.

Glo tells everyone not to bring up Dani. She wants to mourn quietly. She called Laura to tell her she ran into Arturo in LA.

Castillo and his team round up a group of dealers on the street. Duque shows up and tells him to let them go, they are his workers. Castillo tells his men, nobody saw anything, understood?

Laura asks Gloria if she saw Miguel. No, Glo replies, but I told him he wouldn’t get away with this. Laura worries that Arturo will take it out on Miguel. Glo says don’t worry, I’m going to help you. Laura is grateful. She mentions Perron is dead. Ramona didn’t know. Glo wants to get down to work.

Yadi takes off for the bathroom. Glo follows her and tells her that Dani is still alive, but she won’t tell where he is. She swears Yadi to secrecy.

Erna accuses Rocio of trying to get pregnant to trap Jacinto.

Luisa wheels over to Erna’s house. Erna tells her she’s changing rooms. Jacinto appears and says, your sister and I decided to be honest with each other. We’re going to sleep in separate rooms. Luisa says she came to see Jacinto about the accounts for the mayor’s office. These two mock Erna.

Duque asks Castillo to come for a ride with him. Castillo explains he thought those dealers were Estrada’s. Duque takes his gun out. He is really pissed that Castillo was not on top of the Manzanillo shipment. Estrada brought his merch through Guaymas. Castillo can’t believe it. Guaymas belongs to another cartel and that region is closed. Duque holds the gun to Castillo’s neck. You know who made the impossible possible? Gloria and Ed. You owe me, I want Gloria Guzman behind bars.

After discussing business, Jacinto asks Luisa if she will take Erna. He thinks she could use the company. Luisa snarks, if I wanted company, I’d get a chihuahua. Jacinto cites Luisa’s physical impairment. Luisa’s not buying it. You just want my sister to be gone. You’re sleeping in separate rooms. Luisa adds, Erna never learned to do anything. She’s not even a good first lady. Erna is listening in. Luisa leaves.

Castillo meets with his team. We must take down the Tlahuac cartel, especially the corrupt Eduardo Torres. He’s a former FGR agent that killed his partner, has classified information, and is now working for Venancio Estrada. He knows who we are, where we live. He can have us and our families killed. He and his girlfriend must be caught.

Ed and very pregnant Glo are driving a box truck through the border into Mexico. Gloria worries about being caught. Ed says that’s what the pregnancy ruse is for. Guards are easier on pregnant women. Ed says, we have $70 million that’s not ours. My buyers are asking for more merch. Glo asks, your buyers? Yes, Ed answers, I’ve sold to them twice. Glo says that’s the last time, our business is moving money, not drugs.

Ed is alarmed. His contact was just relieved of his shift. They arrived too late. The guard asks Glo how far along she is. Eight months. He asks, you’re coming to give birth in Mexico? It’s usually the other way around. [That’s what I thought. So much for the ruse.] Ed says they want to be close to family. They are pulled over for an inspection.

Ed hands over the manifest. The guard asks him to open the truck. Ed takes out a jacket. They have a shop. There’s some back and forth about the leather for the jackets and how they are made. The guard asks how much does one cost. Ed answers, 100 barras. [is that slang for pesos or dollars?] He adds, in this economy, we got to help each other out, right? The guard asks, and how are you going to help me out? Ed gives him the jacket. Gloria adds, and one for his wife. The guard says they are free to go.

Yadi tries calling Gael. He’s not answering. She leaves a message: I can explain. I swear I was going to tell you at the restaurant, but when I saw Martin, I froze. I’m begging, please call me when you get this message. I love you. Ramona sticks her nose in. I told you to tell him before anyone else did. Yadi says all men are bastards. Laura disagrees. Ramona quips, like Bolillo?

Over the phone, Duque tells Castillo he’s not giving him any more money until he comes through. Debora asks if it’s bad news. He tells her Glo and Ed brought Estrada’s merch through Guaymas and sold it all in the US. Those two are more efficient than that useless Castillo. Debora notes, they’ll gain notoriety among the cartels. We need to do whatever it takes to stop them. Duque knows and he yells—but your boss won’t let me!

Ramona asks Laura, how’d you get mixed up with Bolillo? Laura defends him. He’s nice to me, he helped me with my son, and he promised… she cuts herself off… you know what? I hope Gloria keeps her promise to help bring my kid back. Yadi says Gloria always keeps her promises. She’s going to find a place for me and Ramona, too.

Ramona mentions how strange Gloria is acting after her son’s death. Yadi replies, everyone mourns differently. We should be grateful Gloria is giving us work. Ramona says she wants to get to work early and leaves. Yadi gets ready to go out.

Erna calls Mati. I can’t take it anymore. [neither can I.] I caught Jacinto with the maid. He expects me to stay in the house and not say anything. When Luisa was shot, you came to take care of her. I’m your daughter, too. Jacinto walks in on Erna. He wants to know who she’s talking to about their personal business.

Glo says she almost had a heart attack when Ed handed over the jackets. Not all the jackets had liners, he replies. Your plan, it worked, didn’t it? They take the money out of the jackets. She says, JJ once mentioned that dogs can’t smell drugs if they are in leather. That’s why she thought of this. She wants to stash the cash in the mannequins, but not when the girls are there. Uh oh, Ramona comes in. Where did all this money come from?

And we are out.

I agree with you 100% about this being a disturbing episode. They all are. Somewhere in the middle of this one, I wondered if I should drop out. What's happening to Yadi bothers me the most right now. In any case, thanks so much for another splendid recap!

I hadn't thought of what you suggested: Erna finding that reporter and spilling all she knows about the "upstanding Governor of Baja Mexico". It drives me crazy she keeps taking this crap.

Laura continues to disappoint. Nothing wrong with her 5 years with a psychiatrist wouldn't help. She's curvy, beautiful, and with SUCH low self-esteem that she beds a weasel like Bolillo, trying to convince herself he's Prince Charming.

Art utters the words every abuser ever has said: "You're making me do this." In other words, they take no responsibility for harming their child or their wife or their lover. If said person had obeyed them, everything would have been wonderful.

Enjoyed your commentary about kids saying they hate whatever parent they think is thwarting them right then. "You don't have to be a narco" for this.

How in blazes does Duque know every move that Gloria makes? He knows they got the drugs through Guaymas and sold them already. Guess we're supposed to believe every cartel knows every move the other ones make. Wonder if any of this is true?

That was tense, when the border patrol stopped Gloria and Ed going into Mexico. It amused me that Ed told Gloria to use a norteño accent. I'm not capable of distinguishing from which part of Mexico accents come, but the way she and Ed spoke was markedly different from the way they usually do.

Gracias, Dondi. Excellent work. "Erna calls Mati. I can’t take it anymore. [neither can I.] " -- You summed up my feelings exactly.

If this were a USA tale, I'd expect Laura and Yadi to grow and kick the crap out of Bolillo and Martin by el fin. But with this TN, I'm not sure. I'm more sure that Erna will one day turn the tables on Jacinto. She's got more means, if she thinks about it.

I did enjoy Ed and Glo, in her dollar-store wig, taking on accents at the border. I'm not buying Ed's statement though that a border patrol scout dog would let the smell of leather thwart him/her from sniffing drugs or cash. I've seen these canines in action at the airport and they are awesome.

Dondi, thank you for that excellent recap of every dastardly detail.

Yikes...so many awful men...so many corrupt cops . It's disheartening.

Jacinto is an arrogant and disgusting little troll of a man who seems to think that he is bulletproof. I hope Duque takes him out ..ugh.

Bollilo worked hard to weasel his way into Laura's bed. We saw him kill his buddy in the hospital without a tear , and I don't remember him shedding a tear for Susy when she died. He played Perron. How has this little guy managed to stay alive? .Well, at least he made Laura breakfast

The Yadira storyline is so depressing . She started out being a ,strong, loyal friend to Glo and Dani. Now she is a tragic figure used and abused by these worthless guys . ugh
