I get a kick out of how much your heart doesn't palpitate at the sight of Iván Arana (Ed). "More kisses that I can do without" and "Ed's pipe dream".

I was surprised at how well Duque and his still unseen boss took the escape of what looked like 6-8 chemistry students. Sounds like they cleaned up the lab. I suppose this means there are many more.

Amen on "Does that look like a million to you?" I even looked up whether there are any denominations in U.S. currency greater than $100. There used to be long ago, but no more. It could be pesos, but every narco I've seen on TV appears to deal in U.S. currency; and, if pesos, a large sum of money would have to make her look obese.

My question was answered. Miguel isn't the best kid in Mexico, but I wondered how they'd convince him to leave his mother.

Maybe Miguel will see Perrón, a man he loathes, smell a rat, and run. ¡Ojala!

I groaned when Yadi agreed to see the mystery man for a "private show". She asked for a photo, but he could put up a picture of Brad Pitt or some actor she wouldn't recognize. I'm worried.

What's the OJ supposed to do? Gross to say, but I thought the drug mules ended up with the packages coming out in a BM. The guys who caught her had ICE on their unis. ICE can torture? They said something about still being in Mexico. This still strains my credibility.

To cut to the chase, Gloria's horrible experience with "ICE" was a test arranged by Venancio to prove she'd keep her mouth shut.

Venancio's thugs intercepted the vehicle supposedly taking Gloria to The Tijuana Jail (oldie by the Kingston Trio). Whoever the guys were that were intercepted, Venancio's guys mowed them down, so I guess everyone wasn't in on it.

My hopes were dashed Miguel didn't figure things out when he saw Perrón.

Amanda's blood is checked, but she's OK thanks to the woman switching the food.

Eduardo lays into Humberto after he admits he knew Vero killed her son. Ed wants custody of Amanda, and Humberto agrees.

Duque doesn't do us all a favor and bump off Luisa for showing up at his house and cutting the face of his woman of the night. Instead, he beds her.

Perrón tries to make up with Maribel. Seems he's broke. Did the guy who opened the false bottomed suitcase keep his money? She isn't giving him a second chance.

Looks like Miguel entered the airport with Arturo. Is there any hope Nino can get him back?

Gloria tells Venancio she won't work for him.

Ed picks up Amanda at the hospital. He mentions a granny. Have we seen his mother?

Gracias, Novelera. I checked out the Kingston Trio's "The Tijuana Jail" on youtube -- cute. I'm sure Gloria's fear of what would happen to Daniel if she ratted out Venancio made her endure the torture.

Still got my fingers crossed that Miguel will have some spidey sense that tells him to ditch Arturo.

Hmmm, I don't know why I'm just noticing that Duque wears eyeliner.

I don't recall seeing Ed's mom. But we sure need someone to look after Amanda while Ed is gallivanting around with Gloria.

I haven't missed Maribel at all, but she's back.
 

OT Dizi watch

By chance, I was looking at the Telemundo program guide and stumbled upon a dizi Telemundo show at 12:30 AM ET called 'Me Robaste el Corazón' (Sen Çal Kapımı), starring the popular Hande Erçel and Kerem Bürsin. They will air capítulo 25 tonight. It's a romantic comedy—much lighter than 'La Jefa.' To catch up, episodes are available online.

Thanks for the recap, novelera. I haven't thought about the Kingston Trio in a long time. Yeah, too bad Duque didn't dump Luisa in the pool.

To go back and answer your question of "why OJ", the acidity in the juice could dissolve the packets a drug mule swallowed. Danger of overdose and death.

OT Dizi

Thanks for letting us know Lucio! I had no idea. Sen Çal Kapımı/You Knock on My Door/aka Love is in the Air, was a romcom hit, and not just in Turkey. I watched the first 5 Turkish eps when it originally aired and then stopped. Not that it was terrible, but there are so many dizis and so little time. Hande and Kerem are okay but not "must see" for me.

I don't know if I'll be able to fit this into my viewing schedule. I can't believe Telemundo put this on late night. I wish it was on prime time. There would likely be more people on the patio and willing recappers. Instead they give us reality shows and narcos.

Estrada is determined to get Gloria to partner with him in the Tlahuac Cartel. She’s not interested. All she did was pay a debt. I have a son I need to take care of, she says, I can’t afford to die. Ok, he answers, we’ll do it your way. He offers her money, but she won’t take it. She wants no ties to him. You’re turning down the chance to keep your son safe and sound, he replies, and you’re losing my protection.

Gloria asks, why do I need your protection? Because Duque Medina is after you, Estrada states. The Tijuana Cartel wants to destroy you and yours. [what about Duque’s big boss? He’s protecting Gloria, isn’t he?] Gloria stands firm, she doesn’t want Estrada’s money. Estrada gives up. He’ll have a plane for Gloria to return to CDMX. I hope you don’t regret refusing my offer, he tells her. Ha, Gloria takes the bag with the money after all.

Marlin asks Duque, what’s next with Gloria? Duque replies, be careful. Things could get ugly if Gloria is under Estrada’s protection. Marlin notes that they couldn’t kill Eduardo. What if I kill Gloria’s son? Duque says that’s a last resort. Marlin thinks he can kill Gloria without anyone knowing it was them. Duque is sure they would get blamed for Gloria’s death and that will start a war. What if war breaks out anyway, Marlin asks. Tell the men to be ready, Duque replies, we could be going against the enemy at any moment. [what’s with the relationship between these two? Duque told Marlin they didn’t need to be so formal when they’re alone. This had a weird vibe.]

Ed asks for details of Gloria’s arrest. Was it Jacinto? Luisa? No, Mati replies, and Gloria didn’t say where she was, someone took her phone. Maybe you can use your contacts to find out. Ed says he’s coming to Tijuana. He asks if Amanda can stay with her while he finds Gloria. Yes.

Erna is trying to get in touch with Mati. It keeps going to voice mail. The maid enters the room. Flashback of Jacinto telling the maid to keep an eye on Erna and report if she speaks with Mati or Gloria. The maid asks Erna, you really miss your mom, don’t you? I heard you talking. Is she with your sister, the one who doesn’t live in Tijuana? Erna asks, why do you care? Just curious, the maid replies. Erna realizes that Jacinto is behind these questions so he can find Mati and Gloria’s whereabouts. The maid denies this. Let this be a warning, Erna says, Jacinto will use you and then toss you aside. I speak from experience.

Maribel and Perron talk. He needs money. He offers to kill Gloria. He also asks Maribel to help him with Bolillo. He stole a client from him. He took his money. Perron also thinks that Bolillo was sleeping with Laura. Maribel doesn’t care about Bolillo. She just wants Glo gone.

Laura tells Yadi about Miguel’s “uncles”. No one saw them up close. No one has answers! Laura is sure this is Arturo, and he took Miguel to the US. She talks about the connection between Perron and Arturo. When did they meet and become partners? Why?

The infeliz Bolillo shows up. Laura cries to him, my son… someone took my son! He pretends to be surprised. Do you know anything, Laura asks. Bolillo says his phone died and he knows nothing. Yadi has to leave. She hugs Laura and whispers in her ear, please don’t tell him about Gloria.

Ed and Amanda arrive home. Dani looks happy to see the girl. He asks her to play video games in his room. Ed thanks Mati. He tells her Amanda’s situation with her mother is delicate. He’s getting a divorce, and Vero is not allowed near Amanda. If Vero tries to call or come… Ed gets a call from Gloria. I called so you wouldn’t worry, she says, I’m heading back to CDMX.

Bolillo tells Laura she can count on him. He asks, did Perron say anything? No, she replies, he refused to talk. A huge fight broke out. He ran out and Nino went after him, but he couldn’t catch him. Bolillo says he’ll make some calls and find out if anyone has seen Perron. He asks, is Nino still looking for him? Yes, Laura says, and he sent pics of Miguel to Interpol. Arturo did this. Bolillo promises to get Miguel back. Ugh, Laura begs Bolillo to stay the night. She’s scared that Perron will come back.

Vero wakes up. She asks Humberto, where is Eduardo? Did you release him? I need to see him… we have to fix things. She asks, why is Dora here? Did something happen to Amanda? Dora is here to watch you, Humberto replies. I don’t need to be watched, Vero says. Humberto says they know Vero hurt herself. Amanda said so. He had the food she made tested. The doc concluded she dosed Amanda with lithium.

Bolillo tells Laura he can’t stay because of work. He’ll come back during the day. He’ll call her if he finds anything. Laura looks shocked.

Perron jumps Bolillo as he exits the building. You betrayed me! You’re screwing my girl! You took the job Arturo offered me. You were there when he knocked me out and didn’t help me! He beats Bolillo but Bolillo manages to pull a gun on Perron and says, come with me so you can see the money Arturo left. I didn’t betray you.

Vero denies dosing Amanda. Humberto says there was lithium in the food. Dora saved some of it. You poisoned your son and now you’re doing the same to Amanda. Vero denies it again. Humberto says he forgave her once. He felt partially responsible. I can’t forgive you a second time, and let you do the same to Amanda. That would make me an accomplice.

Ed enters the room. He asks, why did you kill our son? How could you? Don’t think you’ll do the same to Amanda. Vero denies doing anything to Amanda. Ed says he has sole custody of Amanda. [that was quick.] Vero starts to lose it. She threatens, if you take Amanda away, I… Ed interrupts—stay away from Amanda. I’ll press charges and Humberto won’t keep you out of prison this time.

Mati tells Yadi that Gloria is returning. Yadi gets a text: I want a private session. Here’s the address of my hotel. I’m here for one night. I pay very well. Yadi tells Mati she can’t stay for dinner. She has to look for an apartment.

Laura calls Nino. Can you spend the night with me? I’m scared that Perron will come back.

Yadi meets the subscriber. She notes he subscribes shortly after she started. He travels here often, but this was the first time he reached out. He replies, I didn’t have the courage. I saw a live stream you did a while ago. You were high. Yadi calls that a mistake. He’s not judging but he could tell she really needed money. I like you a lot, he says, if you’re up for it, we could both get what we want.

Vero goes BSC. Smashing and throwing stuff. Humberto has to restrain her. She shrieks at Dora and calls her a traitor for switching Amanda’s food. Humberto tells her Dora isn’t to blame. Vero shouts, I didn’t want her (Amanda) to be mentally ill like I am! Humberto sends Dora away.

Gloria asks Ed, your wife agreed to the divorce? She had no choice, Ed replies, there’s no going back. Glo asks what happened. Ed tells about his son’s death and Vero’s mental illness. He only learned the whole story recently. He takes some of the blame for leaving the kids with her.

 

jefa #37 part 3

Humberto accuses Vero of crimes. Vero claims they were accidents. Vero demands to see Amanda. Humberto says that’s not going to happen, Ed has custody and a restraining order. Dora enters the room with an injection to quiet Vero. Humberto tells Vero’s driver to report to him.

Gloria tells Ed she will move in with him and he will have the family he deserves—the family that we deserve. [but do I deserve this?] Sorry FF>> I promise I won’t judge you if you like these two together.

Yadi does her thing for the subscriber. [IIRC, his name was Alfredo Martinez.] Al places a pill in her mouth. Thank goodness she turns away and puts it into a beer bottle.

Bolillo brings Perron to his stash. This is what Arturo paid. Half is yours. Stop doubting. I’m a true friend. If I hadn’t helped Arturo, he would have hired someone else. Perron replies, if you want me to believe you, you have to help me. I need explosives, we’re going to kill Gloria.

Nino comes to Laura. She’s feeling guilty. Nino comforts her. He sent Miguel’s pic to every law enforcement agency. He called Arturo’s cell but it’s off. He sent info to the authorities. He assures Laura that Art will be caught and they will find Miguel.

It looks like Yadi had sex with Al, who is now sleeping. I think she might have taken a pill and washed it down with a shot.

Back to Glo and Ed. He asks her to tell him what happened at the border. She tells about the million and that she was caught. He asks, how did you get out of jail? Estrada’s men helped me, she replies, because I did him a favor by not mentioning his name even though I was tortured. Ed is alarmed. Tortured? You could have died, and Daniel would be an orphan. He says, we have to leave this place and start over with the children right away.

Glo says she’s fine and her debt was paid. She wants to forget it. She wants to leave. Ed thinks he can still work for Estrada. They’ll need money for the kids. Glo tells him that Estrada won’t accept him. Besides, he wanted to leave this behind. Now he wants to work for Estrada? She says, our children’s lives depend on us. That’s what matters. He replies, you’re right. Let’s do things right. As soon as I get custody of Amanda, we’re out of here.

Arturo drives Miguel around LA. He talks about movie stars. Miguel is impressed. What a coincidence, Fercho is in LA and spots them. He remembers Miguel. That’s Laura’s son!

Nino spent the night on the couch. Laura appears in a pink nighty. He compliments her, you look beautiful in the morning. She thanks him and says, I want peace and a little love. I want a man who’ll make me feel like a woman. He holds his hand out to her. She takes it, straddles him and kisses him. Of course, this is Nino’s dream. Laura wakes him up with an offer of coffee. She thanks him for staying.

Duque has summoned Jacinto. He’s got gossip. Gloria is working for Estrada. Jacinto is surprised. You never let me kill her, he tells Duque. Duque says they can’t touch Torres either. He also works for Estrada. A war won’t benefit us.

Bolillo calls Duque. He found out a woman, Maribel Ortiz, wants to kill Gloria. She’s at the CDMX women’s prison. Duque says he needs Gloria alive.

Laura gets a long distance call. It’s Fercho with news he spotted a kid who looks like Miguel. Laura shouts—you saw Miguel?! Fercho, get him! He was kidnapped! Give me an address!

Luisa arranges an interview with the reporter. He’s a bit suspicious. She says, I want everyone to know who Luisa Guzman really is.

Vero manages to get out of the house and she’s lurking at Amanda’s school. The kids are in the yard at recess. She replays Humberto’s words—Ed’s getting custody and a restraining order. You can’t go near them until the custody hearing.

Glo and Ed talk to Mati about their plans. They are moving in together. They want to start over with the kids. Mati congratulates them. She thinks it’s great. Glo adds that they would like to give Amanda and Dani a sibling. Uh, oh. Mati remembers that Sebas told her about the doctor who sterilized Gloria. Gloria notices her mother is troubled. Don’t you like this idea? Mati replies, I’m sorry to tell you this, but… it’s for your own good. I don’t want you to get your hopes up. You can’t have kids anymore.

I can’t have children, Gloria asks, where did you get that from? Sebas told me, Mati replies. We didn’t tell you because you were dealing with a lot then. Gloria thinks Mati is mistaken. Maybe Mati is confused. Mati says Sebas wouldn’t make up something like this. He told me that after you lost your baby, the doctor who treated you sterilized you. Glo is devastated.

Ed asks, where was Gloria treated? I have to find the doctor. Mati says the doctor is dead. Sebas killed him when he found out. Gloria is sure Duque was behind this. Ed notes that Duque is powerful. Gloria vows to become powerful, too. She declares, I’m going to work for Estrada. I swear I’ll get back at him (Duque) for what he’s done. Glo cries on Ed’s shoulder.

Duque wants to send Marlin to the capital. A woman ordered a hit on Gloria. Marlin thinks Bolillo can handle it. Duque grabs him by the collar and says, I need you to handle it. You’re the only person I trust. If Gloria dies, the boss will never forgive me. Have FGR agent Castillo help you. Maribel Ortiz has to die.

Perron plants a bomb under the back seat of an SUV. I guess that’s Ed’s car? He leaves a message for Bolillo, we’re all set. If we’re splitting the money, you should be here.

Meanwhile, Bolillo is at the prison visiting Juana. I was told you’re the best for the job, he says, and there’s a lot of money involved. Money can raise the dead and make them talk, Juana replies, without it, you can’t silence anyone. Ha, Bolillo doesn’t care. He just wants the job done today. He says, I’ll pay you as soon as you let me know she’s dead. Juana warns, if you screw me over, I’ll find you and make you pay. He answers, shut Maribel up for good and I’ll get you 500k in pesos. Juana says, Maribel owes her big time. It will be a pleasure to get rid of her.

Ed finds out that Vero ran away. He wants to get Amanda before Vero can hurt her. He leaves.

Mati understands why Gloria is hurt but she’s worried about Glo wanting revenge on Duque. She asks, who is Estrada? I’ll explain later, Gloria answers, I need to be alone now. I need to make a call.

Gloria calls Estrada. He’s happy to hear from her. She says, if the offer still stands… I’ll take it. I’ll be your partner. Estrada replies, that’s exactly what I wanted to hear. The offer still stands. I’ll do it, Gloria answers, but I won’t be working alone. Eduardo will be working with me.

Estrada agrees. Does that mean I can count on you? Can I give you your next job? Yes, Gloria replies, but before we seal the deal, I need a favor. I want you to kill Duque Medina.

And we are out.

Terrific recap, dondi! This will be quick. I have a two-hour drive ahead of me for a family birthday celebration.

How is Gloria's debt paid? She got, I thought, $500K. Assuming Venancio got back what was "seized" at the border in the planned arrest, he's still out the money he gave her.

Yep, Duque and Marlin definitely have a homoerotic vibe. Marlin, yikes! Who volunteers to kill a child?

I was glad to see Erna isn't buying anything Jacinto is selling, including the nosy maid.

The Laura actor is doing a very good job of portraying a mother distraught at the loss of her child.

Perrón still thinks Laura is his? Why can't these writers kill this guy off; he makes my skin crawl. He said he'd kill Gloria to fix things with Maribel.

I just saw Yadi drink the shot and didn't notice a pill. Is there any chance she didn't really do the deed with that guy? Anyway, at least he wasn't the creep who tried to grab her at the park. But this isn't going to end well.

It's exhausting how many murder plots there are in this thing?

I am asking m!myself how I got sucked into this sea of tears and despair. Now I have to see it through to the end .

Gracias, Dondi. Super coverage of all the mayhem. "I promise I won’t judge you if you like these two [Glo & Ed] together." - ha! Of the couples here, I like Yadira and her beau, but now it looks like poor Yadira has fouled up her chances for a HEA with him.

So Duque's charms have captured Marlin too?

Yes, the best scene was Ernestina being on to the maid doing Jacinto's bidding. I sure hope Erna survives.

I'd forgotten Gloria had been sterilized. Ordinarily I'd be against a good guy putting out a hit, but Gloria has been attacked at every turn.
