**Beginning this Monday, May 19, Telemundo will present a new telenovela, "Velvet, el Nuevo Imperio," in the 9 PM time slot. It is based on a 2014 Spanish television series, "Velvet." It will not be a continuation of that series but rather a modern-day adaptation. Among the featured actors will be Samantha Siqueiros, Yon González, Carolina Miranda, Danilo Carrera, Itatí Cantoral, Sonia Smith, Carlos Ponce, Humberto Zurita, and Chantal Andére. More information can be found on Telemundo's web site. We are very eager to have recappers for this new novela.
Everyone is welcome to join in the conversation. Since discussions of all the novelas share the same page, please remember to put the name of the telenovela you're referring to at the top of your post, so readers can easily find the conversations they're looking for.
By common agreement, this group DOES NOT discuss previews, trailers, or any other plot information not found in a current or past episode of the current production. Spoilers WILL be removed by the admin. This includes reference to earlier productions of the story, and even the original novel. Thanks for your cooperation!

#1 – Part 1 of 3
There are a number of familiar older actors in this one. I’ve not seen the female protagonist, Ana, before. She’s gorgeous. The male lead has a pronounced Spanish accent. He’s 8 years older, although the plot has them the same age. We get some really great shots of New York City at night.
Ana Velásquez gets out of a cab wearing a red evening gown that is also the title of this episode: Carmín 76. She runs to a roof garden to meet Alberto Márquez. He says she’s his novia, and he wants everyone to know it. She tells him she loved him the first time she set eyes on him.
Ana narrates. She’d just lost her mother in Oaxaca 15 years ago. A man approaches her at the cemetery. He says he’s her Tío Emilio. [I’ve seen this actor many times, but the Wiki doesn’t have his name on it for some reason.]
Benjamín Márquez (Humberto Zurita) is shown arriving at a factory in Oaxaca that burned, including the fabrics there. Tío Emilio has arrived. He tells Benjamín that this is his niece Ana, the child of the woman who died in the fire. Emilio asks Ben’s permission to have the girl live with him in what sounds like company housing for the employees of Velvet.
Ana arrives in NYC staring at all the tall buildings. Emilio takes her with him so she can get to know Velvet, the high-end fashion business where he’s the gerente (business manager). Emilio tells Ana that Velvet is the premier fashion house in New York.
Inside Velvet, a boy is running and crashes into Ana. It’s the classic telenovela love at first sight. The boy is Alberto Márquez, son of the owner. Aylin Mujica rides up on her usual broom and chews the boy out. She’s Alberto’s stepmother, Gloria. There’s a little blonde girl with her – Alberto’s half-sister, Valeria. Emilio shows Ana the iconic red dress and explains it.
Another villain, fresh off chewing the scenery in El Conde, appears. It's Chantal Andere, portraying Blanca Morales, a fairly high-level employee. Alberto takes Ana to a rooftop with a fantastic view of the city. He folds her an origami crane.
EIGHT YEARS LATER Ana is working at Velvet, seemingly in a retail area where customers try on clothes. Alberto and Ana are an item. He pulls her behind a curtain for a kiss. Blanca is there and treats Ana like crap.
Benjamin orders Alberto to break it off with Ana. His father says he’s going to Spain to study. Alberto refuses angrily. After this, Ben goes down with a heart attack. And Emilio chews out Ana for daring to be the girlfriend of the boss’s son. “They come from different worlds, yada yada.” Ana tells Alberto that he should please his ailing father and go to Europe to study. They’ll still love each other and can visit from time to time in the U.S.
#1 – Part 2 of 3
PRESENT DAY Blanca is toasting the head designer for creating the new line. Ana’s friend whispers that it was Ana, staying up all night working on producing the clothes that should be toasted.
Alberto arrives at Velvet and comes in on a TV interview being recorded with his father. The interviewer hints at a financial problem at Velvet, but Benjamin waves this off as rumors. He greets his son fondly, but rushes off, mentioning to Alberto that the desfile is a lot of work. [desfile can describe the physical catwalk or a runway fashion show.]
Benjamin is rushing down the street but is waylaid by some Chinese guys, thugs sent by one Chang Wei. It seems Benjamin does have financial problems and has borrowed from Chang Wei, probably at horrific interest rates. He is given two days to pay up. He believes the runway show will enable him to repay.
Alberto and Ana meet at the former rooftop that she’s converted into a garden. Alberto tells her that he’s starting an atelier in Paris. He has investors. He wants her to come along as his head designer. She’s not sure she wants to leave New York. He tells her that Uncle Emilio can come along; his skills would fit in great. She ends up agreeing to come.
Ana is out at a local bar while one of the women from Velvet is singing.
There’s a little party to welcome Alberto back. The “other woman”, Cristina, appears, looking at Alberto as if he’s the last glass of water in the desert.
Emilio is at the neighborhood bar. He’s congratulating Ana for all her hard work. She can’t bring herself to tell him she didn’t break up with Emilio 8 years ago when he went to Europe.
Gloria, Benjamin’s wife, is being photographed…and more…by a guy I wouldn’t throw out of bed. Her daughter, Valeria, shows up and finds out what ma’s been up to.
Some important guy named Gerardo tells Benjamin he can’t lend him any more money. Ben already owes this very nice man a lot.
Blanca totally disses the work of one of the seamstresses. Ana objects. But Blanca threatens them all and glares stonily.
Alberto sees his father’s new line and finds it outdated. He also tells his father he’s heard they’re losing customers. Benjamin reacts angrily, and Alberto blurts out that he’s moving to Paris. They argue, Ben accusing him of spitting on the family name.
#1 – Part 3 of 3
Pilar Márquez (Sonia Smith) has come to see Benjamin. She says that he’s losing control, and she should have been in charge all along. She offers to pay the guy he owes but wants a bigger share of the Velvet stock. He snarls that she’ll turn Velvet into an online store of crappy clothes.
Ana’s friend has brought her the red dress, Carmín 76, to wear to the runway show. She says that Alberto authorized the loan of the valuable dress.
It’s the big night. Benjamin and Alberto are in black tie. Cristina, the woman after Alberto, is in attendance. Valeria is insisting her mother confess her infidelity to Ben. A real celebrity that I didn’t know about until Mr. Google clued me in is there: Prince Royce, a Dominican American singer.
Benjamin desperately offers to make Alberto the President. Of course, he plans to be co-President who’ll “let go” when it’s time. Alberto tells his father that he and Ana are still together. Another argument ensues, with Ben blaming Ana for Alberto’s decision.
We return to the rooftop scene at the beginning of this episode, with Ana wearing the red dress. He convinces her to leave right after the runway show.
Cristina latches onto Alberto, saying she’s “shy” around the press.
The show begins. Models walk down the catwalk. We can see several guests looking underwhelmed. Prince Royce leaves. Several other guests leave. Negative comments are trending on social media. Afterwards a desperate Benjamin tells his wife, Gloria, that the English aren’t renewing their contract.
Ana tells Emilio about Alberto and that they’re leaving for Paris. She explains that the love each other and never broke up. Emilio objects, hinting at bad things about the Márquez family.
Benjamin tells Gloria the truth. They’re ruined. And they’re in danger. He can’t pay what he owes. They have to disappear: Valeria, Alberto, Gloria and he himself. Gloria, of course, refuses and asks for a divorce.
Ana comes out of a back entrance and gets into a car with Alberto, throwing her suitcase in the back seat. They drive off.
Benjamin writes a note to Alberto. He says that Alberto should not do what he himself did: work his whole life for an empire if you’re not happy. He seals the latter and takes off his shoes. He then jumps out of a window. We sense it’s a long drop. And then we see he’s landed on a car.
I strongly suspect Paris isn’t happening for Alberto and Ana.
Novelera, wowee wow Thank you so much for that excellent , detailed recap. I am especially grateful because I haven't been around caray much lately. My water tank leaked in March , so I am getting new flooring in my downstairs with lots of people in and out .I lost interest in grim, violent " Jefa" , and I was looking forward to " Velvet ," but I didn't realize that it started last night . I am disappointed that I missed this first episode , but it played out in my mind as I read your descriptive , Crystal clear account of every moment . I am definitely watching !! Sussn
Novelera. I second Susan's comment. I didn't realize Telemundo had a new show coming on. It wasn't mentioned on the Jefa page to my knowledge ( I'm not watching that one though so I only look at comments on the Telemundo page to see if there is anything OT). I'm not watching anything currently on Telemundo so I don't get the ads for their shows. Decisions, decisions. Do I add this to my library and try and juggle 4 shows again? It sounds intriguing.
Thanks VERY much, novelera, for this extremely helpful recap of Velvet's first episode. Trying to make sense of an opening episode is always a challenge, and one that you repeatedly undertake with great success. I'm still trying to figure out who's who, but your recap makes that a LOT easier!
I'm already wondering about the factory fire in Oaxaca that killed just one person, Ana's mother. Years later, as Emilio is trying to prevent Ana from continuing to see Alberto, Emilio says that if Ana continues, something bad will happen to her, as it did to.... He doesn't say who, but my guess is that Ana's mother's death in the fire years earlier was not an accident.
One thing that puzzles me is the scene where Valeria enters some large room in Velvet (the company) and sees a shirtless guy and, seconds later, Valeria's somewhat disshevelled mother, Gloria, who is Alberto's step-mother. I often have a problem with facial recognition, but the shirtless guy really looked to me to be Alberto, but that can't be right. Alberto is supposed to be the galan in this novela, not someone who would cheat on Ana and have sex with his step-mother, whom he doesn't even like.
I wasn't surprised that Benjamin jumped out the window at the end of the first episode, since his whole life was collapsing around him. But I AM surprised that as famous an actor as Humberto Zurita (I almost wrote "Epifanio Vargas") would take such a small role. I guess there may be many flashbacks to earlier events involving him, but.... (Or perhaps he doesn't die when he jumps?)
Anyway, MANY THANKS once again for getting us started. I'm hoping we have enough recappers for this novela. I'm willing to do short recaps one day a week, but only if there are enough people to handle all five days. Fingers crossed.
Kat, the Telemundo page that was posted Monday at 5 PM (PDT) mentions that Valvet will start that night. And I think novelera mentioned it in one of her comments/recaps the previous week. I should add that I've loved your recaps for earlier novelas (not Jefa, which I didn't watch for more than a few days) and am hoping you might be able to provide short recaps for Velvet, though trying to juggle several novelas.... What can I say?
I'm trying also to keep up with 2 daytime shows so I'm going a bit crazy. Had a busy weekend with grandkids so I had no downtime to watch soaps.
Gracias, Novelera. It's such a pleasure to get a detailed recap of the premiere. I missed watching last night but your vivid descriptions put me right there.
Well I just watched it. The CC's didn't function (they were a scene behind at least) so your recap helped a lot, novelera.
Ana shows up in the red dress but never enters the actual venue. I would have expected her to go in with Alberto since they have made their relationship public. I thought it was strange that Benjamin removed his shoes before jumping.
I'm not sure if uncle is going to be a good or a bad guy. I had to agree the styles were somewhat frumpy. So is Ana a designer? If someone took credit for her designs, but those designs were part of the show, then it seems she isn't that great a designer. Another fashion house show. At least we know what the family business is unlike some other shows that never say.
I recognized young Ana, she was Scarlett in Papas. Also recognized Chantel. Boy she sure looks good for her real age. Has the character Carlos ( Danilo Carrera) appeared yet ? He was the main protagonist in Sed De Venganza. Otherwise another show with mostly new faces for me.....
I watched the first episode. It looks like a good tale. Many actors look familiar. It’s fun to see Scarlet from Papas!
I hope they fix the subtitles. If so, I will keep watching.
Babachita
Also ditto Susan’s comment. I fell out of La Jefa but check back in to see what’s up and Yay! New show! And no violent drug dealers! That I remember from the original. There was something I didn’t like that I hope they fix but time will tell. Will catch up on this one tonight.
K
Thanks for the kind words. I was really tired yesterday, dealing with not enough sleep and people showing up to fix my AT&T internet. But a good afternoon nap fixed everything. Not to mention a spinning class at the YMCA gave me some endorphins for the evening.
Nice to hear from some of you who couldn't take the all-narco hour.
Kat, I don't know how you do it. Two novelas is a lot for me. I am also watching Karsu since I have liked many Turkish dizis. I might have given up but read online that it's 30 episodes. I plan to stick it out for Jefa, at least through this season. If it is like its predecessor, there would be several seasons.
Nice to have you back, K. And you saw the original?
Babachita, I've seen your posts on Uni. Welcome! Sorry you're having subtitle problems. The Spanish ones work fine for me.
Looks like some of you, like Niecie, missed last night. Hope you can all catch up.
Juanita, great minds.... I also had a dark suspicion about the fire that killed Ana's mother, a couple of them actually. Nah, that shirtless guy that Gloria obviously was having sex with was waaay better looking than the actor playing Alberto, at least according to my taste in men. I suspect they paid Humberto Zurita a boatload of money for not a lot of work. IMBD tells me that Miguel Varoni is directing this one.
To reiterate what I've said many times, recaps DO NOT have to be long and all-inclusive. I've seen ones 6 or 7 lines long that served to stimulate others to comment in more detail.
Since no one has said they're planning a recap of tonight's episode, I think I'll try to put a fairly short one together. With any luck, it will be up in about an hour.
The episode opens on Alberto and Ana heading to the airport. Alberto gets a phone call telling him he has to come back, his father has died. Alberto momentarily loses control of the car and it gets hit. Alberto seems only mildly hurt, but Ana has blood on her face and is not responding or moving.
Back at Velvet, Gloria is in Benjamin's office, remembering what she said to him. She sees the note he left for Alberto and takes it.
At the hospital, Alberto is pleading with the unconscious Ana to wake up, open her eyes. Emilio is also there. He tells Alberto, "Your father just died. You have to say goodbye to him. Like it or not, you're now the head of the Márquez family." Alberto leaves.
Gloria tells Valeria, "Your father killed himself because of Alberto. Alberto was going to start his own business in Paris." Gloria tells Valeria that they have to be together on this.
At the hospital, Ana wakes up. She asks where Alberto is.
Gerardo's daughter asks him about his last meeting with Benjamin. Gerardo tells her that Velvet is deeply in debt and will go into backruptcy.
Gloria tells Alberto that his father's death is his fault. He chose "that woman" over his father. "You broke his heart." Alberto tells Gloria to leave, and then he bursts into tears.
Cristina wants to give the eulogy at Benjamin's funeral. She wants Alberto to know how much she cares.
Alberto and Emilio argue over who should take care of Ana. Emilio tells him that as long as she is in the hospital, he will take care of her. Once she is out of the hospital, he will respect Alberto's wishes.
At one point, there's a flashback to Emilio about to bring the young Ana back to New York to live with him after her mother's death. While he's there, he visits someone that apparently he hasn't seen in ten years. He tells her, "I've kept my promise and have always watched over him. He gives her what I think is a picture of "him," whoever that may be. All this is unclear to me. It looks as if this meeting may be taking place in a prison visiting room, but I'm not sure.
Ana is determined to go to Benjamin's funeral. Her friend who wears glasses (whose name I don't know) reluctantly helps her leave the hospital and get to the funeral.
At the funeral, a man arrives who apparently is Benjamin's brother, Esteban. Gloria says Benjamin is "a brother you abandoned and left for broke. How much did you steal from him?"
Blanca too sees Esteban arrive and almost faints.
Cristina gives a eulogy at the funeral and then kisses Alberto afterward. Ana, seated toward the back, sees this. Alberto doesn't know she is there.
Ana is in line to offer condolences to Benjamin's family. Neither Gloria nor Valeria will shake her outstretched hand. She collapses in front of Alberto. He picks her up and carries her out of the room and back to the hospital. (A video of him carrying her soon goes viral on social media.)
Gloria decides to get rid of Ana by firing Emilio. When Alberto finds out that he has done this, he asks her why. She tells him that if he wants Ana, he should have her...as his lover. He is furious with what she has said.
Alberto calls a meeting of Velvet's employees. He tells them Velvet will be fine, and no one is being fired.
Gloria gets a call from an Unknown Caller who tells her, "Your husband owed me a lot of money. You have to pay me or I will have to kill you and your family."
Perhaps in part in response to Gloria's remark about having Ana as his lover, Alberto gets down on his knees and asks Ana to marry him. He tells her he wants to spent the rest of my life with her. "Will you marry me?" She responds: "No." End of episode.
#61 This will be brief. I recapped Velvet last night.
Mateo tells Gloria he managed to get the drugs moved for her despite a police raid. She sincerely thanks him. He says he wants to change her curse of losing husbands. He moves in for a kiss, but she tells him she’s not over her loss.
Yadi tells Bruno, the worst uncle ever, that she’s going to fight him tooth and nail. She has a lawyer.
That reporter we’ve seen dogging Jacinto has published a story calling Luisa a narcopolitica.
Dani is sick again. Gloria calls Montoya, the Cali boss saying she has to leave because of her son. He’s not happy. She’s supposed to be the hostage until all turns out well. She sneaks out past his guards wearing her curly wig.
Nacho also tries to order her to stay in Colombia. He threatens her life. She hangs up on him
Bacalau tells Venancio about the successful drug shipment from Colombia and that Gloria’s involved.
Nacho sends a doctor to Dani. The diagnosis is stress.
Gael is out of work because of Martin’s hacking his work computer.
Esther planted a bug in the salon, and Mauricio listens in.
Martin sends “Uncle” Bruno to scare Yadi on the street. She isn’t scared. She tells him she’s not the girl who begged him not to touch her, the one he raped. Plus, she may blow off him what she blew off Martin. She’s figured out Martin is the mastermind. She says she’ll put him in prison for raping her, and they’ll finish him off there.
Gloria embraces Dani, who now looks fine.
Erna’s baby is missing. Jacinto had threatened her with that if she didn’t get him a meeting with Gloria. Later she leaves him a phone message that, if the baby is not returned, she’ll commit suicide…a real blow to his career.
Jacinto and Luisa negotiate with the reporter who’s been after them. We don’t find out if he accepts a job on Luisa’s campaign team.
Bruno has been scared by Yadira and starts to leave. He and Martin fight. I’m rooting for Bruno, but Martin kills him, then wonders how he’ll get out of this. Sure looks like Yadi keeps the house and apartments.
Arturo returns to the U.S. and tells Miguel he has to begin doing the drug sales alone.
Gloria meets the other musketeers…somewhere. Esther asks who she’s hiding from and Laura glares at her. Gloria has come to tell them Dani is alive, and he appears.
Nacho shows up trying to intimidate Gloria. She hands him a gun. “Go ahead. Shoot!” He doesn’t, of course, He tells her the shipment from Cali went well.
Esther tries to sneak a peek at Nacho but is intercepted.
Nacho wants Gloria to launder $10 million right away.
Gloria asks the 3 musketeers, and they all say they’re in.
Duque discovered Esther is a spy. Nacho burns a photo of her with a cigar.
Novelera: I'm getting a strong gut feeling that Mateo was the one, who hired the thugs to go after Gloria.
Laughed at your reference of calling the 3 sidekicks as the 3 Musketeers LOL.
RIH Bruno: We hardly knew you: Dirty Old Scumbag, who raped Yadi years earlier. Disgusting piece of EXPLETIVE. Yet, we are still having to endure Creepy Martin AGAIN.
I wonder how Duque figured out Esther was a spy so quickly ? Can Mauricio figure a way to get Esther out of the undercover assignment ASAP ?
Thanks Juanita. I got to come home early from babysitting. Still no power at their house but should be back by tomorrow. The down side to living in the south, many electric panel boxes are on the exterior. When the weatherhead and pole that feeds the house came down it damaged the box so all the wiring had to be transferred to the new box. Dad, as it was replaced just last year when they upgraded the service.
Not sure if you caught that Christina is Gerardo's daughter. Blanca also has a daughter. Wonder if Esteban is a former lover (baby daddy) of Blanca's.
I agree the lady was in jail. I wonder if she is Ana's mother. It seems Emilio has been visiting her over the years. I wonder if the photo was of Ana. There also was a photo in the suicide note, looked like a guy in a mariachi type outfit from the fleeting glance with which they teased us.

I’m late, but what a sweet treat to get a premiere recap, novelera. As always, very helpful.
My schedule is very tight these days, and I keep falling behind on viewing. I’ve put new dizis on hold, too. I can’t commit to a recap day for now, especially since Jefa is still airing.
Of course, I’m going to watch. It’s a NYC based novela (at least for now) and there are so few of them. I also need a break from the narcos.
Do you think Humberto Zurita will be around for some flashbacks? Benjamin probably left behind a lot of dirt to be discovered. Maybe Zurita took this job because he didn’t want a full-time schedule.
Chantal Andere (Blanca) doesn’t seem like she will be such a big bad villain in this one but Blanca’s daughter is a devil.
Great recap, novelera. Thanks for pulling double duty this week.
I don’t know what to say about this show anymore. It’s ridiculous and I’m getting tired of it.
I’m glad that Yadi stood up to her rapist uncle. Hopefully his death will be Martin’s undoing.
Thanks so much for the recap, Juanita. I really appreciated it. And it was NOT that short. It's SO, SO nice to have you back with us.
Emilio continues trying to separate Ana and Alberto. I knew, when he convinced Albie to leave to be with those mourning his father, that Ana would wake up and wonder why the man she loved wasn't there.
Kat in SC, yes, Cristina is Gerardo's daughter. She said she was Benjamin's godchild. Not sure what part Gerardo had, if any, in Velvet. Plus, how can Cristina be that obsessed when he's been in Europe for 7 years, except for brief visits to the U.S. that the writers have told us mostly took place in Miami.
Yes, that was a prison visiting room. Kat, the woman whose face we didn't see can't be Ana's mother because the one Emilio is looking out for is male. I suspect she's Alberto's mother. Someone, I forget who, alluded to Alberto's mother having been crazy. Viewerville probably assumed she died since Benjamin demonstrated VERY poor judgment in getting remarried to Glora, a first-class b&*#h.
I am quite curious about Blanca's reaction to Esteban. The father of her extremely nasty daughter?
Cristina kissed Alberto on the cheek, but Ana still didn't like it. Guess she could feel Cristina's longing for him from a distance.
This repeated classist thing really makes the novela seem dated. Gloria several times referred to Ana as esa costurera de quinta several times. It means that Ana is a low-class seamstress. I am still confused about the roles in the company. I thought Ana had more status than just as a person who sewed the clothes. Alberto seems to think she could design clothes in Paris.
Novelera, many thanks for the detailed recap.
I didn't realize it started this week.
I saw the Spanish ( as in made in Spain) version on PBS recently. It will be fun to compare the two versions. Madrid/Barcelona/Paris vs. Oaxaca/NYC.
I loved the 1950s fashions!
Beth S
Novelera, thanks for the added information. A lot has been covered in 2 episodes. Yes, Christina being obsessed makes almost as much sense as Ana and Alberto maintaining there long distance relationship for 7 years, or however long it's been. I checked Wikipedia etc for cast members but they don't have them all. I'll have to write names as they are mentioned if I'll be recapping one night.
P.s. I'm so glad I bailed on Jefa!
Thanks very much, Kat in SC, for pointing out that Cristina is Gerardo's daughter. I hadn't realized that. The only things I knew about Cristina is that she's intent on winning Alberto and I don't like her.
Novelera, all I know about Gerardo's role in Velvet is that he apparently has lent Benjamin a lot of money to keep the company afloat. Just why it is in such bad shape financially isn't yet clear. And Gerardo is not the only one who has lent Benjamin money. There's also Unidentified Caller, and also Chang Wei. And Gloria indicates that Esteban may have stolen money from Benjamin, though I don't really trust anything that Gloria says.
I don't feel that the classism makes the novela seem dated. There still exists a great deal of class prejudice in both the US and Mexico, though less than in the past.
I've got a Zoom session coming up in just a few minutes, so I'll stop now and post this.
Gracias, Novelera. Fine summary.
Cheers to Yadi standing up for herself. Martin will go down for sure, I'm just wondering how.
As if the endless murders or threats of murder aren't enough, now we get Erna threatening to commit suicide. Ugh.
Gracias, Juanita. Super job. This TN is quite busy with action and your recap helped me pull it together. Fashion and mystery, sounds good to me.
If nobody steps up, I can do something tomorrow. I recap the 10p.m Juegos so I'm busy currently.
Gracias, Kat. Our Telemundo site may not last unless people who visit start putting up something, however small. The Univision area has many more visitors and recappers. I think some of you may be scared off by recappers in both areas of the site who do really lengthy and truly excellent recaps. Not everyone has time for that. But without at least an outline of what happened, there are no comments.
Novelera, I don't feel intimidated, but I agree the recappers on this page are excellent! My problem is lack of time. I want to be watching shows that others watch so I watch them all on both pages. I couldn't stomach Jefa though, I will never willingly watch a narco show.
So I took no notes last night and won't rewatch it (because of all the aforementioned other shows) so this will be from memory and I don't have all the names figured out so some will just be descriptors.
This recap will be a jumble of things I recall. Sorry that it is out of order.
Ana explains to Alberto that too many things have changed for him to be making hasty decisions about marriage. He gives her his reasons and she accepts.
Mateo seems to be Alberto's best friend. He comes to the store and there is a unique couple there that Clara has no clue who they are. I think Blanca's daughter fills her in, he is some famous sports guy, his partner ( wife) is a famous influencer. The guy gets a call and wanders off. Mateo hides behind a dressing room velvet curtain and starts making out with the blonde. The guy gets off the phone and looks for the blonde so Clara loudly tells him she is trying on outfits as she warns the 2. Wife comes out. She didn't like anything.
Later Mateo is with Alberto. The dire situation is explained to Mateo. Alberto needs him as his CFO. Mateo agrees.
Blanca's daughter seems to have her own side gig going on trying to be an influencer. It's late at night and she is taking selfie videos dancing among the mannequins. Blanca calls for her so she quickly puts her blazer jacket on and hides the selfie light and says something about straightening things out
The bolts of fabric have been repoed because the company hasn't paid for the. The seamstresses have nothing to work with. Blanca, or Emilio tell them all is fine, use the old fabric in the stockroom. The crew are afraid they will lose their job.
Gloria, Valeria and Arturo are with the lawyer for the reading of the will. Arturo gets 60%, the others get 20% each. Gloria and Valeria are disappointed. Gloria later tells Alberto that dad owes the Chinese mafia tons of money. How will he fix that. It will destroy the company name if word gets out.
His solution is bank loan. That is shot down by the bank. His second solution is dad's friend, Christina's dad. His stipulation is. A marriage between Alberto and Christina.
I did note some of the minor characters names. Margarita is the girl with glasses, Pedro is the guy and Luisa is the black lady. They had a party for Clara. I think she has been taking classes and got her degree. She hopes to get the assistant job to the president ( secretary?) Raquel who worked there for 20 some years is quitting. It's not the same without Alberto's dad. Arturo has made himself president since he is the major shareholder.
Valeria gets accosted on the street by the Chinese mafia guy with a knife to her stomach. Pay up or you'll fell this for real next time.
There is a backstory to that which I may add some things to later. Baby will awaken soon and I want to do my Duolingo lessons while she is asleep....
Some more Christina observations. She seems to be a bit crazy like her mother. Dad reassures her she isn't that crazy. He doesn't understand her obsession with her high school crush Alberto ( me too). She says he's the only man she will ever love. Not sure if her mother is still alive. I'm sure all these snippets of information will tie in together in future episodes. I think Christina has siblings,.
Also Alberto wants Ana to be the chief designer. She did go to study design. She thinks they will say she got the job because of being the bosses fiance.
Thanks very much, Kat, for your helpful account of last night's episode. I'm in awe that you could remember so much with no notes. And I'm happy to finally know the name of Ana's friend--Margarita--who continues to be the most helpful of the people Ana works with.
I don't have much to add to your account. One small additionl thing I do recall is a discussion near the start of the episode between Gloria and her daughter, Valeria. Valeria is upset at having seen her mother with the shirtless guy whose name I don't know. Her mother informs her that her father was no angel, and that he cheated on her first. (I assume she's referring to Benjamin.) Also, Valeria lets her mother know that she wants to work at Velvet. Whether this will be important remains to be seen.
So far, the character who has impressed me most is Ana. I applauded when she at first turned down Alberto's proposal, citing all the right reasons for doing so, and agreeing only after he had addressed all the issues she raised. And I again was impressed with her at the end of the episode, where she rightly recognizes that Alberto's naming her--his fiancée--as Velvet's creative director is bound to be seen by many people in a bad light.
Kat, like you, I'm still unsure of many things about the novela's plot and many of the characters' names, but I nonetheless found your account interesting and helpful. Again, many thanks!!
Juanita, thanks for the additional information. Team effort here. I recalled those conversations after you mentioned them. I would doubt Gloria's word on Benjamin's supposed infidelity. Did you watch Las Hijas del Señora Garcia with the patio. I so want to call Christina Priscilla! She was obsessed with that shows Arturo.
Just recalled Blanca's daughters name, Jenni. Wonder who her father is. I'm sure her story will evolve.
One other scene involved Benjamin's blonde sister. It was with Valeria but I can't remember what was discussed. I think it was about Valeria working in the business. I get the impression that Benjamin may have cut his siblings out of the family business. He probably inherited it from his father.
I'm really intrigued to discover who the mystery lady in jail is. She called Ana's uncle in this episode, another thing I forgot in my summary.
Kat, you have an amazing memory without notes! Thanks a million for the recap. Really appreciated.
I could be wrong, but I think Mateo might have been the guy with Gloria, the one Valeria caught her with. In any case...both guys or the same guy...hubba hubba, as my dear, departed mother might have said. I finally managed to locate the actor playing Emilio. He's Leonardo Daniel and has appeared in 3 or 4 novelas I've seen.
Thanks for mentioning the scene with Cristina and her father, Gerardo. Her being not quite right in the head was useful information. She has to have Alberto or no one.
The lovely Luisa Ortiz, played by an actor I've seen before, sang in IIRC Episode 2. I'm pretty sure she's the victim of abuso conyugal (spousal abuse). We saw Margarita whip off those sunglasses to reveal a bruised cheek. And I also remember something being said about said spouse, Ramon, not having a job, maybe forever.
Yes, Pedro is the young man that Margarita really likes, but he's stuck on the dark-haired girl, not clear on her name yet. She turned up her nose at Pedro's broccoli pizza,
It sounded like Esteban, Benjamin's brother, might have had a gambling problem. Alberto said something about his losing everything at one sitting.
Yes, Sonia Smith plays Pilar, Benjamin's sister. Looks like she's planning to join forces with Gloria to ruin things for Alberto.
I'm always late to the party. If I recap, it's the night before because East Coasters would give up looking before it was up there. I retired about 2 years ago, so I indulge my night owl tendencies and don't get moving until the afternoon.
Again, thanks Kat. I wish I had your memory!
I am enjoying this, but I have had a very hard time figuring out who is who! I finally figured it out! I was using the cast list from the original (from Spain) version. Yesterday I found the right cast list, and I’m so much happier! I knew the Emilio actor, but didn’t recognize his name. I’m all set now!
