Novelera, just to make myself clearer, when I mentioned Chekhov's gun, it was just to say that if Emilio almost collapses in an early episode, it's highly likely that he will have a more serious collapse later on. Perhaps, as you suggest, while Ana is in San Francisco. (And perhaps that might bring her back to New York? )

A quickie. Raul, the new head of design, tells Valeria he admires her for starting at the bottom. He began the same way, selling clothes to pay for his studies.
Alberto, Cristina, Gerardo, Enrique and Barbie are at Cristina’s mother’s grave. Enrique and Barbie are a perfect couple, both nasty. Barbie, doubtless asked by Cris, takes videos of Cris and Alberto together. She kisses him. Of course, this goes viral, and Ana sees it at her desk in S.F. Cris tells Alberto that she loves him.
Idiot Pedro wants to rent an apartment in NYC to live in with Clara. Especially an idiot because they both live in that subsidized by Velvet building. He can’t afford a doghouse in New York. Later Clara refuses to move there. And still later Pedro tells Margarita he’s going to propose.
Max tells Blanca he knows she put that Velvet medal on him when she abandoned him. She is very sincere and tells him she had terrible postpartum depression and was afraid she’d hurt him. She gave him over to foster care. When she was better and tried to get him back, he’d been adopted.
Jennifer for once is kind to her mother Blanca.
Ramon, the abuser, threatens Luisa because she’s on camera singing in that bar. He has bought himself something in a big box. Later Luisa shows Margarita what he bought (but not Viewerville). It, of course, came out of their account, the one only she puts any money into. She also confides she’s sure he stole the money they all put in for the office raffle.
Ana’s new boss, Billy, shows her around. She learns the software, and he tells her that he loves her work.
Clara thought Mateo was inviting her again to the Petit Pomme, but the reservation she made was for Mateo and another of his hot and cold running beauties.
Max is with some awful thug in a bar. He owes the guy money. The guy knows all about Max being Blanca’s son. Or maybe Max is lying about that. In any case, the plan, I’m sure, is to victimize Blanca.
Alberto suffers the whole episode about Ana not returning his calls. Do I care? Nope!

Wednesday, May 28 Dani was not shot. Erna finds out Jacinto had the journalist killed. Gloria meets with Quevedo, Luisa’s opponent, and gives him the video of Jacinto’s humiliation. Gael goes back to being a jerk, having recognized a tattoo on Yadi in the viral video. Miguel thinks Fercho may be a good guy, but he’d planned to be alone with his mother. Looks like Fercho moved out. Gloria and Mateo get it on, but he’s told afterward that it’s just sex, not love. Yep, my instincts about Alina were golden. She approaches Gael, brooding in a bar. Not sure if she knew who he was, but she gets him to take a pill and then takes him to bed. Erna has things perfectly set up to pretend the baby is sick and needs to take him to the doctor when she drops the two passports. Quevedo outs Luisa publicly for having Duque as her lover. It’s said the maid who told this is in protective custody. Duque tells Nacho he was only with Luisa to get information to protect Gloria. Bacalau gives Arturo Gloria’s location. But Venancio comes out with a bunch of armed guys and grabs up Arturo and Bacalau.
Thursday May 29 Gloria leaves the rest of her crew to go to Venancio to see Arturo and a traitor he doesn’t name. Erna finally gets some backbone and tells Jacinto what she thinks of him. But he chokes her and even threatens to kill the baby if she doesn’t put on a good performance for the press.
Violeta, the woman Gloria shared a cell with in Mexico City arrives. Ramona gets nasty with her right away. Gloria is shocked at seeing Bacalau and Arturo tied up and beaten. Venancio shoots both of them in the head. He wants Gloria to come to work for him again. [In my opinion, she’d be better off with him than the crazy Nacho, but it’s probably too late for that.] Venancio tells Gloria he lost her because of Bacalau’s scheming, so he had to go. And Arturo would never have given up.
Duque is in bed with Luisa, who’s bemoaning the bad news about her campaign. Duque tells her he’s forbidden by his boss to interfere or to harm the maid. Erna gives quite the performance to the press, with a scarf to cover up the bruising from being choked. Afterwards, he loves her performance, but she’s never to go anywhere alone with the baby. Mati watches on TV, disgusted. Gloria tells Mateo about the shooting of her enemies in front of her. And that she’s sticking with Nacho. Uh oh! Nacho is lurking in a car and sees Mateo and Gloria kiss and then embrace.
Ramona needs to go and soon. She’s horrible to Violeta. But Violeta gives it right back, saying she spent enough time in prison to recognize people that can’t be trusted.
Luisa listens to Duque’s idea about killing her opponent. She passes this idea on to Jacinto who arranges a hit. The guy with the bad tattoos stands out like a sore thumb. Surely Quevedo’s guards would spot him.
I got the impression Jacinto’s guard was giving a side eye to Jacinto about the treatment of Erna and the threat to kill his own child if she doesn’t obey.
Gloria is ordered to Nacho’s for a meeting. He’s barely restraining his jealous rage. But the reason given for her being called in is that Debora has discovered there’s a lot of Nacho’s money missing. We hear Violeta’s words about Ramona in Gloria’s mind.

Thanks Novelera. I didn't realize Max owed money to that guy. If he's truly Blanca's son as he states, then Jennifer and Valeria are forbidden fruit, unless Gloria's daughter isn't really Benjamin's.
And Emilio has a stroke or heart attack. I'm sure Ana will be on the first flight home.
I got the impression Pedro wanted to move into the subsidized apartments ( I assumed he still lived with his folks). Thanks for clearing things up for me.

Many thanks, novelera, for that excellent quickie, and thanks too to Kat for adding some important detail. Novelera, I loved your describing Mateo's women as his "hot and cold running beauties"!
I don't have much to add. What interests and puzzles me most in this episode is Blanca and her relationship to Max. We see a flashback from many years ago when Blanca is told that Esteban has gone to the UK without telling her or, more importantly, taking her with him. Right after the flashback, we see Blanca warn Jennifer to stay away from Max. Presumably she is convinced she's Max's mother, and so a relationship between Max and Jennifer would be a very bad idea. But later, we see Max meet with some older, rather ugly guy (who I vaguely think appeared very briefly earlier in the novela). Max tells the older guy that yes, he talked to Blanca, and the necklace definitely caught her eye. She says she misses her son. Older guy replies that she doesn't know what kind of son she had. He also says that Max owes him a lot. All this makes me wonder whether the older guy gave Max the necklace, and perhaps Max isn't her son after all. Questions but no answers.
Apparently Cristina is taking the advice she got from I-don't-remember-who
and is taking the initiative with Alberto, including telling him that she loves him. I'm sure she's not happy that he doesn't respond in kind.
One more thing: the "Chekhov gun" gets fired a lot earlier than I'd expected. Which is to say, Emilio has three more instances of the dizziness or whatever that looks more and more like a heart attack. And at the end of the episode, the last of the episodes sends him falling to the floor, unconscious. Fortunately some of his Velvet co-workers are there and he's rushed off to the hospital as the episode ends.

Oops, I was racing to finish what I was writing before I had to keep an appointment, and I now see that I wrote "at the end of the episode, the last of the episodes sends him falling to the floor...." Yuck, In order to avoid confusion, I should have said "the last of the dizzy spells," or something like that, avoiding the confusing repetition of "episode" to mean more than one thing. Oh well....

At the end of tonight's episode, it was announced that on this coming Monday, June 2, Velvet will air at 10 PM rather than 9. Apparently La Jefa will not be shown. The normal schedule (Velvet at 9, La Jefa at 10) returns on Tuesday.

Novelera: I knew I recognized Candela Marquez in this Telenovela. Her character, Margarita is cute & spunky.
Noticed that Emilio (Leonardo Daniel) has a weird habit of being killed off in several Telenovelas.

As predicted Ana came running back to NY and no surprise Alberto gave her her job back. Max is a bad guy, steals an emerald necklace when Valeria pull rank and takes charge of the salespeople after Emilio's collapse. She has Jenny move the display to a different area that is hidden from security cameras. Max takes advantage. Blanca notices him with it in the store room. Jennifer is held responsible for its loss and if it isn't found she has to repay the value. I don't understand why she is at fault.
I like Raul. Still can't decide if he's actually gay, or if he is a good guy. Just because he is friends with crazy Chris doesn't necessarily make him bad. They are off to Miami to buy exclusive fabrics, Margarita is Raul's aid. Mateo and Alberto are also going for the 2 day trip. Ana knows the fabric designer so Alberto wants her to go too to help get them a good deal. So much for her returning to care for tio. Maybe Blanca will step up. I could see those 2 as a couple, and I'm surprised they aren't already. I really don't like Alberto. Lately the male protagonists do nothing for me.....and the 2 as a couple are meh.

Nacho makes a not so veiled threat against Mateo. Gloria explodes, you killed my husband and father! I won’t allow you to kill more people! Nacho distances himself from blame by telling Glo that it’s Duque who will go after Mateo in his quest to hurt her. He assures her she has his full protection, but he can’t be everywhere. Glo thinks Nacho is right and that she’ll make sure Mateo stays away for his own good.
Jacinto informs Luisa he set up a hit on Quevedo to make it look narco related. He also added Luisa’s ex maid to the deal.
The maid, Francisca, speaks to Quevedo and his bro (I forgot his name). Quevedo wants her to talk about Luisa’s affairs with Duque Medina. She’s afraid, but he promises her protection. [yeah, we know how that goes in a narconovela.] Quevedo underestimates how far Luisa and Jacinto will go to win the election.
Francisca gets a call as Quevedo and bro leave the room. It’s from her mother, who asks her to come immediately. We see Jacinto’s hitman holding a gun to her head. Fran leaves.
According to Mauricio’s new infiltration plan, Dario “bumps” into Alina out on the street. He immediately starts flirting and she flirts back.
Yadi asks Gael if something is wrong. He gets testy and claims he has a headache, but we know he’s got a hangover and a guilty conscience. He’s sorry, it’s just that he has a lot of work. He thinks back to Alina and the drugs. Yadi presses him to tell her what’s going on. She asks, were you with someone else? Gael tells her he’s never been unfaithful. He asks to be left alone to finish work. Yadi remains suspicious.
Dario invites Alina for a coffee. She replies, I don’t go with strangers. He introduces himself as Dante Estevez. He continues to cringy flirt with her. He manages to exchange numbers before she takes off. Dario calls Mau—she took the bait.
Quevedo and bro find out Fran left. They realize the call was threat. What will they do now?
Fran arrives at her mom’s house. She begs the hitman to let them go, she swears she won’t talk.
Ramona gives herself a pep talk. You’re not doing anything wrong. You work hard and are taking what’s yours. We see her put cash in her bag and leave the spa. She doesn’t see Violeta lurking and following her out.
Mateo is working. Gloria storms in and slaps down the photos of them kissing on the street—you have to leave my house today! Duque sent those, she says, he knows we have something. He won’t rest until you’re dead. Go to Colombia asap.
Mateo asks, are you sure Duque sent them? Glo doesn’t care, it’s a real threat, he’s in danger. Mateo refuses to leave. They argue. She exclaims, you’re in danger! I can’t lose another person I love! What did you say, Mateo asks, you love me?
Ramona arrives at her hideout and is immediately confronted by Violeta. Vi pushes Ramona to the ground—I have a very keen nose for thieves! She picks up Ramona’s bag and takes out the cash. It’s not what you think, Ramona babbles. Don’t bother to explain to me, Vi replies, Gloria will want to hear what you have to say. Vi gives Ramona a swift kick in the gut and another and another.
Laura cooks a nice Cali Colombia meal for Miguel. She notices a chain around his neck. Miguel says he found it in the shower. Laura says it’s Fercho’s. Miguel says he will take it off. Laura says she wants to talk to Fercho. It’s a bit uncomfortable.
Ramona and Violeta struggle and Violeta hits her head on a ladder. She goes down hard.

Ramona gives herself a pep talk. You’re not doing anything wrong. You work hard and are taking what’s yours. We see her put cash in her bag and leave the spa. She doesn’t see Violeta lurking and following her out.
Mateo is working. Gloria storms in and slaps down the photos of them kissing on the street—you have to leave my house today! Duque sent those, she says, he knows we have something. He won’t rest until you’re dead. Go to Colombia asap.
Mateo asks, are you sure Duque sent them? Glo doesn’t care, it’s a real threat, he’s in danger. Mateo refuses to leave. They argue. She exclaims, you’re in danger! I can’t lose another person I love! What did you say, Mateo asks, you love me?
Ramona arrives at her hideout and is immediately confronted by Violeta. Vi pushes Ramona to the ground—I have a very keen nose for thieves! She picks up Ramona’s bag and takes out the cash. It’s not what you think, Ramona babbles. Don’t bother to explain to me, Vi replies, Gloria will want to hear what you have to say. Vi gives Ramona a swift kick in the gut and another and another.
Laura cooks a nice Cali Colombia meal for Miguel. She notices a chain around his neck. Miguel says he found it in the shower. Laura says it’s Fercho’s. Miguel says he will take it off. Laura says she wants to talk to Fercho. It’s a bit uncomfortable.
Ramona and Violeta struggle and Violeta hits her head on a ladder. She goes down hard.

Gael is counting the cash in his wallet. Yadi walks in. He tells her he needs to go to the ATM because he needs cash. Yadi is suspicious again. It’s late at night, why does he need cash now? She can lend him the money. He doesn’t want her money. He’ll just go to the ATM on the corner. He leaves and Yadi follows.
Ramona has called Bernardo to help with Violeta. Bernardo wonders what dirty stuff Ramona’s up to now. What makes you think I’m going to help, he asks. She gives him a wad of bills.
Gloria explains to Mateo, it’s not a matter of the heart, it’s about saving your life. Please leave. Mateo isn’t going, especially now that she’s reciprocating his feelings. She’s frantic.
Duque talks business with Nacho but Nacho is more interested in Gloria’s relationship with Mateo. What does this idiot have that I don’t, he asks. [where do we begin?] Good grief, Nacho flashes an AI generated wedding pic of him and Glo. Duque warns him about Gloria’s lies.
Back to Glo and Matt arguing. He’s not changing his mind, he’s staying. They kiss. Clothes start coming off. [Grateful for commercial break.]
Gael goes to meet a dealer. The guy is surprised, he hasn’t seen Gael in years. Gael answers, and you won’t see me again. The dealer laughs, that’s what everyone who relapses says. What’s your poison? Gael replies, give me what I always bought from you. Yadi sees this.
Gloria and Mateo get it on. FF>>
Yadi texts Gael, are you coming? Dinner is getting cold. Gael texts back, the ATM was broken, I had to go to another one. Yadi: Let me know when you’re coming so I can turn on the stove. Gael: I’m on my way.
Fercho is staying with Gloria and Mati now. He tells Mati he’s grateful. He opens up to her. He can’t get Laura out of his mind. Don’t give up, Mati tells him, she only asked that you not live together.
Fercho calls Laura. Miguel listens in on Laura’s side. Fercho is sorry they can’t spend more time together. Laura says she wants to spend more time with her son. Fercho says he respects that. He loves her more for being such a good mom. I miss you, Laura confesses, yes, it hurts not to be with you now. But my son comes first. Fercho agrees, he was just checking in. Laura goes back to the dinner table.
Thank goodness the clothes are back on. Mateo asks Gloria, can you imagine missing out on this every day? [yes, imagine.] Gloria is resigned to Mateo’s decision to stay. They’re a team. And they are in love. Glo says they must keep it a secret. He swears nothing will happen.
Duque’s guy spots Glo and Mateo getting into a car and reports back. He tells Nacho that Glo and Mateo just left the salon. They were there for a long time together, alone. Nacho thinks she was only telling him to leave. Duque replies that they looked happy when they left. Nacho is upset that Gloria lied again. Duque offers to kill Mateo. Nacho says no, he will take care of it. Bring him to me.
Gael returns home and Yadi greets him. Did you get money? Dinner will be ready soon. Gael says the ATM was broken. He will go back in the morning. He asks, would it bother you if I don’t have dinner today? I’m tired and want to sleep. She replies, you have to eat. You’ll get sick. You haven’t eaten all day. Nothing is going to happen, he answers, I’ll see you tomorrow.
Gael walks away but turns back and confesses, I lied to you. I didn’t go to the ATM. I went to buy this. He throws the drugs on the table. I felt the need, he says ashamedly, I used last night.

Quevedo and bro go to Francisca’s mom’s apartment. The door is wide open. There’s a note on the table. “ I can’t do it. Don’t look for me anymore. You won’t see me again.” Quevedo wonders, could it be true she left? What if they killed her because of me?
Yadi admits she followed Gael. She’s sorry but she was worried. But she didn’t think he was going to buy drugs. I couldn’t help it, he says, I used last night. With whom, where, Yadi asks. That’s not important, he replies, it’s my responsibility. What’s worse is that it felt good. Yadi tells him it was a mistake that he can fix. She’s relapsed many times. Addiction is a disease, if it were a vice, it would be easier to quit.
Gael worries about being a recovery group leader. How he can face the people who trusted him? Yadi is reassuring, you are an example for me and for many people. Now is your chance to show that when you fall, you can get up. I admire you. Gael says Yadi is right. Let’s throw this garbage away.
Mateo is at Glo’s in the morning making arepas for breakfast. Patacon con hogao (fried plantains with tomato-onion sauce). Pan de bonito (google says bread from cassava starch, cheese, eggs, and in some regions of the country, guava paste.) y buñuelos. Dani approves of the breakfast. And even if he doesn’t want Mateo as a stepfather, he likes him as a friend.
Ramona and Bernardo have Violeta tied to a chair and gagged with a hood on her head. Ramona says she has to go to work to avoid suspicion. Ramona takes the gag off and Vi says, you can’t keep me here forever. As I can recognize a thief, I recognize you’re not a killer. [there’s always a first time.] You don’t know me, Ramona replies. Let me go, Violeta says, and return the money to Gloria. I swear I won’t say anything. Ramona doesn’t believe her and replaces the gag. She leaves Bernardo with Vi.
Mateo is out on the street, and he’s captured and stuffed into an SUV.
Quevedo is at a campaign rally. Bro notes it’s going to be difficult to link Luisa to Duque. Quevedo is still worried about Francisca. Jacinto and Luisa are watching on TV. Do you see the hitman, she asks. Jacinto thinks he sees him in the background. [The hitman looks very suspicious. Why don’t they have better security?]
Mateo is thrown before Nacho and Duque. Nacho spears Mateo with a pool cue. He starts, Colombian scum, answer me like a man, if it’s not too much to ask. Is there something between you and Gloria? Duque adds, you better talk. The boss doesn’t like lies.

Mateo says there’s nothing between him and Gloria. Nacho replies, I saw you sticking your tongue in her throat. I know you’ve been very close to her. Is that nothing to you? Mateo claims he did it to fool her friends. It’s not real. I know what I’m doing, Don Nacho.

Thanks for getting us started, Kat. I really thought (or maybe hoped) we might be going to have a two-coast telenovela. I should have known that Telemundo (especially after the buyout by NBC a few years ago) would not spring for street scenes in San Francisco like the ones we've seen, supposedly, in NYC. So, we're back on the same merry go round of Alberto trying to get Ana back and Cris trying to get Alberto.
I like Raul also. I think he's one of those gay people both Uni and Telemundo are putting into plots as diversity characters. I think I even remember a rather chaste kiss between two men. There's a gay woman on Jefa, although she's not exactly a good person.
I think they're going with Max as a compulsive gambler. He's trying to ward off that thug he met with in the bar with the emerald necklace. I'm not sure yet if he'll let Jennifer take the blame. And, yes, how in the world would she have to repay the cost of the necklace she didn't steal?
I think the Alberto actor is doing a good job. When first introduced, he was 100% doting galán. Now that he put his company business's survival above Ana, he's seeming more annoying. And Gloria just shows up to gum up the works at every opportunity. She was convincing Cristina to insert herself into the trip to Miami last night. And she seems to spend 75% of her time at Velvet, where she's NOT an employee.

Thanks, Kat, for starting the discussion, and thanks too to novelera for adding to it. I'm sorry that I'm entering the conversation so late. I was away all day today and only now am back home with access to my computer.
I'd like to add a few additional points about last night's episode.
Cris talks to her good friend Barbie. Barbie thinks that Cris's interest in Alberto is just a whim (capricho). Cris insists that it is much more than that. "Alberto has said he has feelings for me....It won't be all that hard to turn those feelings into love." She also points out that if Alberto and she get married, her father's money will stay in the family. Barbie sees that Cris is serious and simply asks that she not tell either her father or Enrique that she told her about the deal. "Tell them what?" Cris asks with a grin. "I don't remember a thing. I get blackouts."
Emilio, now out of the hospital, asks Blanca if something is wrong. She hasn't seemed herself for several days. She says something about mistakes that are never resolved. He asks, "Esteban Márquez?" She replies, "I was thinking of the son we had" (I assume "we" is Blanca and Esteban).
Alberto and Raúl are going to Miami to buy fabrics. Raúl wants very expensive fabrics from Nancy Davalos (or perhaps from her father, I'm not sure). Alberto remembers that Nancy Davalos is a friend of Ana. He asks Ana to come with him. She is very reluctant, but when he explains why he needs her to try to get a special rate for the fabrics, Ana agrees to go.
Valeria (whom I dislike more and more with each episode) is in an upstairs room whose window overlooks the place where Alberto and Ana are talking.
Apparently Valeria hears at least part of their conversation and knows that Alberto has asked Ana to come with him to Miami. Valeria then meets with Gloria and tells her what she has heard. (I don't understand how she could have heard their conversation, but....) Gloria is not pleased. She then gets in touch with Cris, who was unaware that Alberto was going to Miami. Gloria suggests that it might be a good idea if Cris went, too, and perhaps surprised Alberto. "It could be very romantic," Gloria adds. If I remember correctly, this is how the episode ends.
