Monday, #13?, 1 of 3
.
We start with the luncheon with Cris and Gloria and are reminded that Gloria sucks.
.
Then in the stare, Blanca is confronting Max about his stealing the necklace, which he denies. And he guilts her about abandoning her son, but in the process makes it clear that e did steal. But he blames being threatened by people, which Blanca and Jenny would know nothing about because they’ve had everything, blah blah blah. Max sucks too.
.
Luisa does not suck. She says she’ll keep an eye out for Uncle Emilio while Ana is in Miami. And she lets Ana know that Cris was a big jerk to her when Ana was gone. And something about buying good fabrics for Barbie because she hates everything. Then Marga comes in to show off the new dress she bought just for Miami! And she’s let down when they tell her she’s been replaced by Ana? Boo.
.
Blanca then confronts Valeria about why Jenny is being charged for the stolen necklace when Jen was following Valeria’s orders. Blanca offers to pay for it but Valeria says no. Because she sucks now too. I thought she was going to be ok when she took the job, but apparently her promotion that she got after like two days of work went right to her head.
.
The girls are talking about Miami. Antonio and Raul enter. It ends with Marga letting them know that her family (father?) owns a restaurant in Miami where they could go and Raul is excited. This is why I like him. He’s nice to the help and – even better – respects their works. He does not suck.
.
A couple of the saleswomen give Ana a gift and card for her uncle. Gloria, unfortunately, is there being all Gloria-ish. She orders Ana to not interfere with Cris and Antonio. Ana, disrespectfully but in a boog way, shuts her down.
.
Blanca warns Max that they are going to find the necklace in his locker and he needs to put it back asap. He can’t but she tells him to do what she says. Sounds like she’ll help him? Val has Pedro opening all the lockers with a big lock cutter thing that I can’t think of the name right now instead of just asking everyone to open their lockers. It’s found in John’s locker. Who is John? No idea. But he’s the fall guy and Antonio won’t press charges. But Valeria has to order him out and to never ask for a reference because she’s THE BOSS now. Antonio gives her a talking to about forcing open the lockers. He was not impressed.
.
Marga’s mom is with Emilio, dancing and listening to music, and he looks like he’d rather be alone. Ana gets her to leave, to his relief. She tells him she’s going to Miami with Margarita (so I was wrong and she’s going after all Yay!), Raul, and um, Antonio. Emilio does not look thrilled.
.
Did they change the theme song or has it always been this? Maybe I haven’t been paying attention.
.
Emilio can’t believe she agreed to this trip. Ana says she made it clear to Antonio that this was just a work trip. Right. Emilio isn’t buying it. He thinks she should think of herself and her dignity. They hug but he asks about the San Fran people and she says they will have a job for her again if she ever wants it. Foreshadowing?
Monday, #13-ish, 2 of 3
.
Pedro goes over to Clara, Marga, and their mother. Clara kicks him out but I don’t know why. Something about mom being dramatic? I think mom is whining about whatever is going on with her.
.
Cris and Antonio are talking about the fabric-buying trip. It’s only two days but it’ll be an eternity to her. Pfft. But she kisses him and people are watching in a weird way and I don’t know why. Was it too much PDA? Whatever.
.
Miami! The ladies are wearing flowering Florida-appropriate dresses, Raul has some bright Florida-colored shirt on, and Antonio is boring. Raul and Marga head out for dinner leaving the other two along at the hotel.
.
Val and Jenny give each other crap. Jen about being innocent of the theft and Val, I didn’t pay attention.
.
Jenny and Max talk. She tells him she’s very perceptive of people and he asks what she thinks of him. Did she think he was the thief? He says she was wrong about both him and this John guy. (We know she wasn’t). (And seriously who is John?)
.
Ana and Antonio sit of the beach and talk about their relationship. He’s sure they have a future together. But she doesn’t like who she’s becoming with him. He’s moved to the “sucks” column. He telsl her she came back for herself. SF is nice but dreams are made in NYC. (He hasn’t heard of the gold rush apparently). She’s still not convinced so he asks if they can still be friends. While he’s holding her hands.
.
Cris talks to her dad about how great her relationship with Antonio is and that she’s going to surprise him in Miami. Dad will arrange the trip and she loves her daddy! (Does she not have a job?) Dad tells brother how well this is going and brother doesn’t look happy. (Sorry, I havent’ looked up their names. E-something).
.
Blanca gives Max the money for the necklace and asks why he put it in John’s locker. So he’s just the fall guy. Max is still being a jerk to Blanca about her not being a mother to him.
.
Mom (of Marga and Clara) has come over to Emilio’s complaining about noise in Luisa’s apartment. Her husband is having a fiesta or something against the rules. Emilio will take care of it.
.
Max gives the money to his accomplice and wants half. He’s not getting it but is told that he’ll have to keep pretending to be her son. (Pretending? Or pretending to pretend? Is this a double fake out?)
Monday, #13. Or 11? Realizing it maybe should have been 11, 3 of 3
.
Miami. Seems Ana has forgiven Antonio for being a putz because we get gratuitous shots of the two of them around town. Ice cream. Bike rentals. Beach. She can do pull-ups! That’s impressive.
.
Back to NY and Emilio with Mom confronting Luisa’s husband. Some other woman answers the door and calls Ramon to the door. Ramon says this is a party for his cousin. Don’t think anyone believes this. The kid comes to the door too and Mom asks why he isn’t in school.
.
Bright sunshiney Miami. Marga and Raul are at her father’s restaurant and Marga demands o know what happened with him and their mom. But they are interrupted by Raul yelling for crema because whatever he ate was too spicey. Ha!
.
Jenny tries to make nice with Max but he’s in a mood thinking about what he’s really there to do and shuts Jen down. It’s for the best, Jen.
.
Marga talks to Clara about maybe their parents but lets her know that Pedro is going to propose. Clara isn’t happy about this. Mateo is there and she accuses him of knowing this. He says nothing. Then Pedro comes over promising a spectacular night and she feigns vertigo to get out of the evening. He takes her to the elevator and Mateo smile-laughs when the door closes.
.
All four of the Miami people are celebrating at dinner, even though they all just had lunch. Ans wants to go to bed and Antonio does too. But Raul wants to go out dancing with Marga.
.
Luisa gets home and has to knock on the door to be let in. Ramon answers and she immediately nags him about the party, where did he get the money, she knows he stole it, etc. Blanca walks out of her apartment and puts her nose in their business, but in a good way. She tells him if he messes with Luisa, he messes with her. (Maybe she should get Luisa a good lawyer). It gets a little physical and Max intervenes. Blanca yells that if Ramon touches Luisa, she’ll call the cops. She thanks Max and Max looks confused. He’s maybe a redeemable sucks.
.
Antonio says good night to Ana and calls her “amiga”. And she calls him “amigo” back. And then she drops her keys, he picks them up, and they immediately start smooching and fall into the bedroom. As friends, I’m sure. But Marga is in the lobby waiting for Raul when she sees Cris. Uh oh.
.

John is the guy Max apparently framed by putting the necklace in his locker. Poor guy is fired. At least Alberto doesn't go as far as giving him no character reference like Val wants to do. Well I started writing before finishing your post. I'm only halfway through the show so I'll wait to finish commenting later.
K, I loved your delightful recap, perhaps especially the "sucks" refrain. I'm with on all your judgments. When the novela began, just a couple of weeks ago, I was somewhat ambivalent about Valeria, but mostly I think I felt she was one of the good gals. But as time went on, her "sucks" score went way up, and that's where it is now. I still can't make up my mind about Max.
Speaking of Max, wow, what was that about "lying to that woman about being her son"? Like you, I can't decide whether that's a real reveal or, as you suggest, perhaps a "double fake out."
And then there's Antonio, aka Alberto :-). I've got a terrific program on my computer called Active Words that I can set to automatically change one word I type to another (as well as do lots of other things).
I too wondered about the theme song that played last night. I don't recall hearing it before, but I find it not all that compelling, so perhaps I just never noticed.
I'm glad you mentioned that it was Blanca who confronted Ramon. I wasn't sure. Her face definitely looked like Blanca's, but I thought Blanca was considerably taller than that woman seemed to be.
As is so often the case, the novela ended on a scary moment. Will Marga manage to warn Ana that Cris has arrived, or will Raúl come along and whisk her away before she can do so? I guess we'll find out tonight.
Again, many thanks!
Such a funny, entertaining recap, K! I also loved your sorting the cast into "sucks" and "doesn't suck". As far as that category, Gloria shoots to the very top of sucky characters.
I also laughed at Valeria's promotion after two days' work "going right to her head". Yes, I was prepared to like Valeria when she sided with her brother instead of her mother early on. But she's gone full nasty rich girl. Is it Gloria's bad blood coming out in her?
Yes, I noticed the new theme song. If there was one before, it was not memorable. I liked this one. One of my big pet peeves with the dizis has been their substituting good Turkish music for sappy ballads in Spanish. I'm watching Karsu on Uni, and Uni springs for the good music.
Obviously this episode was a big advert for Miami since Telemundo is based there. I only visited once, and it didn't look that spectacular.
The John actor was an older man with grey hair, someone who was obviously a long term, loyal employee who Max set up. Grrrr! And how did he get the necklace in a locked locker?
Mateo fell in my estimation laughing at the Pedro and Clara situation. Pedro is sort of a dunce, but it was mean of him to enjoy it.
Maybe Max will be revealed as not Blanca's kid so he can end up with Jennifer.
Because the reality crap ran over, at least for me on the DVR recording here on the West Coast, the last scene was cut off. I knew Cris was going to show up. It surprised me that Ana folded on her vow to stay away from Alberto so quickly.
Just a quick note to say that I seem to have settled on Tuesday for recapping, so I will do one tonight. I'm on the West Coast, so probably many East Coasters will be asleep by the time it's posted.
Whoops! Alberto. Antonio. Kinda the same name, right? At least it’s not another E name. Then I’d really be in trouble. I’ll get it eventually. Maybe.
K
Near the start of the episode, we again see Marga catch sight of Cris arriving at the hotel. Marga hesitates for a second, and then dashes off as fast as she can to warn Ana. (Wouldn't a phone call be faster?) She knocks at Ana's door. No answer (surprise, surprise). She then knocks loudly at Alberto's door, and yells at the same time. Alberto opens the door, Marga grabs Ana and pulls her into her room as she explains that Cris is here. And sure enough, no sooner does she close the door to Ana's room than we see Cris arrive in the hallway. Cris wants to go out with Alberto--now. Alberto pleads that he's tired and has to have a clear head in the morning, so no, he's not going out with her now.
Meanwhile, Marga and Ana are in Ana's room. "What was I thinking?" asks Ana. "I knew this was a bad idea. But I love him." Raúl calls Marga. She offers to stay with Ana, but Ana tells her to go with Raúl and have a good time. Marga leaves.
Luisa tells Ramon, "It's over. You stole money, you're an alcoholic. I don't want my son to grow up to be an abuser like you. She goes out, saying that she wants Ramon gone when she gets back.
Emilio comes into Velvet. He tells Valeria he is ready to work, and he needs to work. He compliments Valeria on how well she is doing. Her father would be very proud of her. She says she doesn't always want to be in sales. Emilio says "You're a Márquez. Sooner or later, you'll be in management.
Blanca and Max are talking. They praise each other for being brave in dealing with Ramon last night. She then asks Max what the tattoo is that he has on his arm. He says he got it while he was in jail. "I served several years because I got mixed up with some dangerous people."
Luisa, Clara, and Pedro are talking. Luisa says she has told Ramon to leave, but she doesn't want her son to grow up without a father. Pedro tells her that Ramon is a bad influence on her son, and being a father is a big responsibility. (This turns out to be more important than it seemed at first.)
We see Raúl, Marga, Alberto, Ana, and Cris sitting at a table. I think they're at dinner, but I'm not sure. Breakfast, maybe? Anyway, Cris wants to do something with Alberto, but he says he has to go with Ana to see Nancy Davalos about the fabrics. "Well," says Cris, "Don't make plans for tonight. I've made reservations at a place you'll love." Alberto doesn't immediately show enthusiasm, and Cris says "Let me spoil you. That's why I came." (No, Cris, you came because you're a spoiled brat who always gets what she wants.)
Back at Velvet, Valeria seems to be coming on to Enrique Otegui, who is at Velvet to find a present for Barbara.
Luisa is walking outside, perhaps on her way home. Ramon comes up to her and demands to know who she is sleeping with. He grabs her and says "You're sleeping with someone, and that's why you want me out of the house." Luisa calls him a liar, and says "drink, drink, drink, drink, and when you wake up, you beat me." Emilio comes by and tells Ramon the police are coming, and everything that's happened has been recorded by the camera on the wall there. Ramon leaves. Once he's gone, Luisa tells Emilio she thought the camera wasn't working. "It's not," replies Emilio, "but Ramon doesn't know that."
Enrique comes back with several shopping bags filled with stuff he has bought for Barbara. Barbara is astonished that he has bought so much. Enrique tells her that "soon we will have a financial interest in the company." (Don't the Oteguis already have a financial interest in the company, thanks to his father, Gerardo, having lent megabucks to Alberto?)
Mateo and Alberto talk on the phone. Mateo is not pleased that Alberto has brought Ana with him to Miami. Alberto points out that Ana has saved them 30% on the fabrics. Mateo pleads with Alberto to treat Cristina well.
At the hotel, Cris talks with Ana. Cris tells her, "This is going to be my first night with Alberto." Ana asks, "Has he told you that he loves you?" "Not in so many words, but I know he does" replies Cris. A woman arrives with the dress that Cris plans to wear. It used to be her mother's. Suddenly, Cris spots a tear in the dress. She goes ballistic, yelling at the woman who brought the dress. Fortunately, Raúl appears and assures her that the tear can be fixed. He turns to Ana for confirmation. She gives it.
Back at Velvet, Emilio tells Blanca that he went over the film from all the cameras, and nowhere did he see any sign of John near the necklace. He has known John for years, and is sure he wouldn't steal. He then mentions Max and points out that Max is a new employee, and we don't know all that much about him. "All I know is that something doesn't seem right."
Raúl was right. Ana is immensely talented and was able to fix the tear so that it doesn't show. Raúl is very impressed with the job Ana did. He also says he made sure that nothing would happen to the employee Cris blamed. (I think Raúl just gained umpteen points in K's "doesn't suck" category.)
Luisa and her son return to their apartment. They find that Ramon has left, but he has taken all kinds of things with him. Emilio tells her that he'll arrange immediately to have the locks changed.
Luisa tells her son that from now on, Mom and Dad will live separately. She assures her son that both Mom and Dad love him very much.
Gloria tells Valeria that she's trying to remove Ana and her uppity uncle Emilio from Velvet. Just how she's going to do this isn't clear.
Pedro is rehearsing what he will say to Clara when he asks her to marry him. Suddenly, someone calls out "Pedro!" Pedro replies "Susan?" With her is a young boy. She spends a few seconds explaining what she has been doing, and then says she has come to New York to introduce her son Peter to his father. "Peter, I present Pedro, your father." Peter simply says to Pedro, "I pictured you taller and stronger." I think that at Susan's request, Peter goes into another room. She then says to Pedro, "When I became pregnant, you were no longer in the picture, but I decided to have the baby anyway."
Cris comes down the stairs at the hotel wearing The Dress. Referring to Cris's initial response to seeing the dress's tear, Ana says to someone (I don't remember who), "I never saw Cris like that--out of control."
Clara and Pedro are together. Pedro orders a double tequila. He tells her he is going to work in sales at Velvet. Whether that's true or not isn't clear. All he can think about is what Susan said to him about his being the father of her son.
Blanca comes upon Max in a lot of pain. She helps him get to his apartment, and then she tries to treat the wounds to his face and body. She wants to take him to the Emergency Room, but he refuses, saying that would bring the police. Blanca says, "Either you tell me what happened or you tell the police." Max explains that the money Blanca gave him wasn't enough, "so they beat me and told me I was a dead man."
Cris and Alberto return from a very fancy restaurant. Alberto wants to leave her at her door. She has other ideas. "The night is young, so let's enjoy it," she says to him. She opens the door and they enter, as a very unhappy Ana watches from the doorway of her room. End of Episode.
#70 – Part 1 of 2
I’m tiring of all the villains. It feels like I need a shower after every episode. And the comments are extremely sparse.
We return to Mateo, tied to a chair and being tag teamed by Duque and Nacho. We find out that Mateo was inserted into Gloria’s life by Duque to spy on her. Guess he hadn’t counted on Nacho being obsessed with her. Mateo keeps babbling about only trying to gain her confidence when confronted with Nacho’s obvious jealousy.
Ramona keeps telling Gloria that her accounting is in perfect order. This is after Gloria announced that Violeta would take over the books. Ramona says she wouldn’t take even one peso. Gloria insists that Violeta is taking over. When Ramona asks if she’s fired, Gloria says she plans for Ramona to cross the border with the others, money in a girdle. Ramona is incensed. “After everything I did for you!”
Of course, my slim hopes were dashed. The most suspicious looking guy in Tijuana manages to kill Quevedo while Jacinto and Luisa watch on TV. Erna comes in and figures it out, but keeps her lip zipped.
We get some more yapping by Nacho and Duque at Mateo. He’s threatened and hit with a billiard ball. I’ll cut to the chase. He gets away with his life, but he has to kidnap Dani for Nacho.
Gloria tells Yadi that she thinks Ramona has been taking money. She adds that Violeta always mistrusted her.
Erna calls Gloria to say Quevedo was killed by orders of Jacinto. She says that she can’t even leave the house. Gloria tells her to play dumb, and she’ll come for Erna and the baby.
Ramona comes to some warehouse as if she’s ready to be a money mule. When told she’ll wear $50K, she says it’s too much. She’s speaking to Debora, Nacho’s right hand. Ramona says she needs to speak to the boss. Debora isn’t buying it until Ramona says Gloria has been stealing money. Nothing would please Debora more than dropping Gloria into the s&*t.
Mauricio’s spy is sitting by the pool with Alina, flattering her and pretending to be smitten. From something vague she says he gathers that the big money move is tomorrow. He goes to tell Mauricio about it.
It seems Jacinto has managed to plant some false social media stuff implying Quevedo was in bed with the narcos.
There’s a long talk among the “mules” about who’s crossing the border where. I don’t care.
Luisa goes on TV and does a good job expressing her distress about the assassination.
#70 – Part 2 of 2
Gloria gives the troops a pep talk and warns them against speaking if they get caught.
Ramona has been brought before Nacho with the proverbial black bag over her head. [Does Telemundo buy these by the hundreds?] She’s surprised Duque is there. She thought he was at war with Nacho. Canary feathers all around her mouth, Debora tells Nacho that Ramona has come to give proof that Gloria has been stealing. He tells Ramona that everyone who has seen his face has died, also everyone who has deceived him.
Ramona’s vet sidekick, Bernardo, has brought water to Violeta. She tells him Ramona can’t be trusted.
Alone before his bank of computers, Mateo talks to himself asking why he had to fall for Gloria. He says he has to get her away and to protect Dani. He calls someone for help in hiding Gloria in Colombia.
Ramona tells Nacho that Gloria will likely blame her for the missing money. She says that she has the original receipts for the money. But Gloria ordered her to falsify the records. She says she knows where Gloria hid the money. Ramona says she’ll have to pretend to still be with Gloria and to cross the border with Nacho’s money on her person. When she returns, she’ll hand over the proof and take him to where the money is. She says she knows he could find her anywhere in the world, so she isn’t delaying so as to take the money herself.
Gloria tells Mateo she’s going to Tijuana, and he needs to stay in Mexico City.
Bernardo is about ready to help Violeta when Ramona bursts in. Violeta has the bag over her head. Ramona starts unloading black bags of money. But Bernardo peeks around the door and sees what she’s doing.
Yadi catches Gael talking to Alina and is suspicious. From what they say before she comes in, it seems Gael did bed Alina. He is now distancing himself from her. He says he had to go to the NA meeting of which he’s the leader and confess his slip.
Gloria talks with Nacho. “Ramona said I was stealing money?” She’s as cool as a cucumber. She says she’s not stupid enough to risk her life for money. She says she’s offended. Nacho’s mask drops. He gets to his knees. “You’d never betray me? You’d never leave me for another man, would you?” Gloria just looks aghast and says nothing.
Bernardo sees Ramona burying the money she stole. She talks to a wad of bills, saying it’s worth it to lose this to get Gloria out of the way and to take Gloria’s job.
The women and Gael gather in anticipation of being loaded up with money. Ramona thinks she’s crossing with Yadi in the tunnel, but Yadi tells her Gloria has ordered her to cross near San Ysidro. Ramona bursts out that it’s riskier.
Gloria came to Tijuana for two things, it seems. She’s come to offer Quevedo’s brother money to run for Governor of Baja California and to beat Luisa.
I was hoping to see Gloria get Erna out of the hell of her home, but not tonight.
Novelera: Thank you very much for the recap of last night's episode. My personal thoughts:
*Violeta still in danger. I don't see her making it to the Gran Final.
*RIP Quevedo: The Body Count will continue to increase.
*Where is Matilde ? I wonder if Mateo will have to kill her in order to kidnap Daniel ?
*Ramona needs to die a very PAINFUL death. It's quite obvious Yadi does NOT trust her at all.
*Mauricio is still a JACKASS. He needs to go down sooner or later.
*More scheming & more winning by the Villains.
Novelera
I'm sorry you are getting so few comments. I'm glad I never got past the first episode of Jefa. I knew it would be a bloodbath narco type of show which is not my style at all. I also think all the shows are getting fewer comments because it is summer and there are 6 different shows being recapped so people are picking and choosing which they watch each night and play catch up during the day (raising my hand) or on the weekend.
Juanita, I've settled on Wed for Velvet. Looking forward to seeing this episode later. It competes with Karsu and the Univision channel is easier for me to get to when I turn on the TV so that's what I watch.
So how much of a con man is Max? Yes he has a bloody nose, but his side grabbing could have been a ruse to gain sympathy to milk more money out of Blanca. I'm surprised no background checks were done to get the job.. his time in jail would have been discovered, unless his name is an alias, perhaps from Blanca's real son, if he isn't actually hers.
Gracias, Novelera. Last night's episode was especially rough, what with Mateo getting a gun barrel shoved in his mouth and Violeta still held captive. Thanks for the fine recap.
About the proverbial black bag thrown over folks' head, I took security training some years ago. The expert security trainers advised exhaling/inhaling to calm yourself among other serious advice, but joked that the worst thing about having a black bag thrown over your head is the smell. It seems narcos and kidnappers never wash the bags, just keep reusing them!
The good news is that Glo is no dummy, so surely she'll figure out Nacho is quacky for her. Dare I hope she has a flashback to that timid boy she defended in middle school?
Thanks so much for the excellent recap, Juanita! Quite a busy day, so this is the first time I've had a minute to comment before my 7:30 PM Spanish Zoom class.
Yep, ITA about Cris being a spoiled brat.
I don't think Gerardo has an ownership stake in Velvet. Alberto owes a lot of money. I think I remember a promissory note. But Alberto believes he will repay that loan with proceeds from Raúl's designs. Don't remember Gerardo getting shares of stock in Velvet, if it's even publicly traded.
That surely is one beautiful dress that Cris had on, thanks to Ana's seamstress skills. It was said that it was the "IT" dress of 1987, maybe a prize won by Velvet. The red dress that Ana wore in the first episode won the same prize in 1976.
Emilio also told Valeria that John was on a break when the necklace was stolen.
Poor Pedro. He had a one-night stand with that woman, and she's shown up with a kid. The kid also seems like a bit of a brat. He only was interested in Pedro as a father if he were un bombero (a fireman), the kid's goal in life.
Cris ordered a SECOND bottle of champagne at that dinner and was pretty drunk when they arrived at the hotel. She was also bragging about the chef, a friend of hers who has 3 Michelin stars. He fixed them something that sounded weird, but it contained Wagyu beef, quite the delicacy.
Many thanks, Kat in SC and novelera, for your interesting and insightful comments. Kat, it never occurred to me that Max might be faking the extent of his wounds in order to con Blanca our of more money. He's certainly capable of doing something like that. However, since Blanca sees him without his shirt on, I assume that he must have some visible body wounds to display. Also, I'm delighted to hear that you'll be doing Wednesday recaps.
Novelera, having read what you said, I think you're probably right about Gerardo not having an ownership stake in Velvet. Thanks too about pointing out that Emilio told Valeria that John was on break when the necklace disappeared. My guess is that Emilio isn't going to let the matter drop. He's loyal to his long-time colleague, and the small bit of evidence points away from John. And yes, Poor Pedro indeed! Earlier in the episode, he told Luisa that being a father is a big responsibility, and I find it hard to believe that he won't feel compelled to "do the right thing." Unless, of course, someone convinces him to insist on a DNA test and the test comes up negative. Frankly, I hope something like this occurs. I don't have a good feeling about either Susan or her son.
Again, many thanks to both of you.
Max and his handler meet outside in the alley. The more we see of them, it's is clear Max is just playing the part of her son and it's all a trap for him to milk her for money. Max says I've paid most of it back. Thug reminds him that's just the interest. Max is not liking his part so he is a reluctant thief. He is still holding his side so I guess he was beat up more than the bloody nose.
Ana and Margarita arrive back at Ana's place. They did all ride on the private jet. Margarita was impressed. Ana says this trip has added to her resolve to get Alberto out of her heart and mind.
Blanca is at her bank. She wants to withdraw all her savings and close her account.
Mateo is talking with Alberto. He laughs about Chris getting drunk, but reminds him sooner or later you have to close the deal with her. She and the collection are your future. Clara knocks, you have a video call in five minutes and your reservation for tonight has been made. Alberto catches on to their flirting and trades him, but warns I hope Har won't be called in about this.
Pedro meets Susan for a date, but she came without Peter. Pedro has a gift for him, a fire engine toy. Susan is pleased at his thoughtfulness and kisses him and says that's what made me fall in love with you.
Clara and Mateo spar at their date. She complains that Pedro did not ask her to marry him. Sparks fly and they kiss. (Get a room! I don't think this is proper behavior at petit pont).
Alberto is home. Gloria asks how did your Miami trip go with Chris. She tells him I suggested her going. He says quit toying with me. No, you are the one playing games when you decided to go to Miami with your lover. The fate of the company, and mine and Valeria, are in your hands.
Blanca goes to max with her savings. They are yours. Pay off your debt and promise to not steal anymore.
Ana gives Emilio a gift from her trip to Miami, a journal I believe, as he likes to write things by hand she tells him. How are things going for you, Ana. She looks sad. What happened in Miami he asks. She tells him that city holds lots of memories for us. Nothing happened between us though. He tells her that Alberto accepted the contract to marry Chris. In fact Benjamin was always in favor of the match. All for money she moans. I'm serious this time though, it's totally over between us.
The thug knows Blanca went to the bank, but Max claims he got no money from her. Thug threatens him.
Max goes back into Velvet where Jennifer asks if he's seen her mother, she's been insufferable lately. He says no, and you should respect your mother. You don't know how lucky you are to have a mom like her.
Jacqueline Broncamantes is ushered into Alberto's office ( where have I seen this actress before? La suerte de Loli I think. That was a good show if others haven't seen it). She and some miss universe latina contestants want Raul and velvet to provide their wardrobe.
Raul is yelling in the workroom. Ana wonders what's up. He shows her some designs, the future of Velvet. They both get texts, hers from Alberto.
Margarita has brought gifts from her miami trip for the crew. Pedro gives Margarita a hug. She savors the experience. She got him a light up palm trees. He looks sad, she says throw it out if you don't like it. He says no, I have a problem. Clara walks up, you got to ride in a private jet. Tell me about it. Pedro slinks away.
Alberto has summoned Ana to the rooftop garden. She complains I've got work to do. Alberto says you wouldn't talk to me or answer my texts. She says explain what. I saw it all. He insists nothing happened, blah blah blah. Ana says leave me alone and walks away.
Christina is snooping in Alberto's office drawers. Mateo comes in. He asks how was Miami, divine. She brought him a gift, an expensive gold watch. He says it's too much. She says how he is important for the team. Raul comes in with his new designs.
Pedro is at a bar with his palm.tree. margar7meets him there. She jabbers away and he is lost in thought. He shows her a picture in his wallet ( guess he got it printed rather than using his phone gallery). He's my son. Ana comes in after that announcement, goes to buy a round, bumps into a nice looking guy who apologizes and wants to buy a round. She says, no need. He flirts and says it's an excuse to know your name. I'm Rodrigo. Ana shakes his hand, tells him hers, and looks interested.
Thanks for the recaps. I’m with family this week and for some reason don’t want to watch.
Looking forward to learning what Max’s deal is. Maybe he’ll give the money back? Eventually?
K
So Alberto doesn't want to take advantage of a drink and he convinced Chris to lie down and go to sleep. Dodged that bullet for tonight at least.
Blanca tends to Max's wounds and he tells her why he does money, but I'm not sure exactly how. Sounds like items were stolen and he took the fall for it. She thinks he should go to the police. She feels responsible for what has happened to him in life. She fixes him something to eat., as he gazes at her in wonder.
Alberto goes to Ana's door wanting her to let him in. She's sitting on the floor on the other side crying. He tries texting her. He just needs a moment to talk to her. Margarita is in the room still. I think the two are sharing the room as in last night's episode Margarita had a key card for the room. Good to see the company is cutting costs where they can. Ana tells Margarita that Chris told her she was planning on making love to Alberto tonight and she saw him go into her suite.
Next morning the gang is checking out Chris comes down on Alberto's arm. She came on a private jet and is going home the same way. I think she says there is room for all of them.
Blanca gets a box from her nightstand. She seems to take out a birth certificate. She has a flashback to when she brought the baby to the orphanage or wherever she left him. She is crying and as she hands him over she takes the gold V necklace off and gives it to the baby. She asks , Estaban, why did you do this to me? It was a BC for a baby Esteban Morales dob 7/11/1996. Mother Suarez Morales dob 5/14/1958 father unknown. That makes her 38 by my math. I guess it's possible she got a 25 year necklace if she started working at 13! Maybe it was a 20 year bonus. I've forgotten. Jennifer comes in as Blanca puts the box back hastily. Blanca goes to get ready for work, Jennifer eyes the box.
Gloria and Pilar meet for breakfast. Pilar is shooting some poisoned arrows her way. Don't count on Gerardo being your new protector. Not sure what else she said. Maybe that he's hoping to buy up the company cheap when it fails?
Emilio is asking the staff if they saw John next to.the necklace display. Max is next but Pedro interrupts him calling him tio, to which Emilio reminds him we aren't related. At any rate Pedro needs advice so Max is off the hook for now. Pedro says I couldn't sleep all night, Emilio says me either have things to do..Pedro blurts out I have an 8 year old son.
Blanca is in the store room looking at her phone. She texts or calls someone. In London UK...I think it's her ex lover Estaban. Yup. She identifies herself and tells him they have to talk. Max comes up to her and she hangs up. Max tells her Emilio is investigating the robbery. She says if course he is, he wants to clear his name. Don't you feel any remorse for framing an innocent man. Nope I don't worry about what I've done, just like you.
Poor Pedro. Susan was a holiday fling and they only did it once! On a new years party, we were drunk. Emilio asks are you sure it's your son? Of course I am, he's the spitting image of me, look ..and he shows him a photo on his phone. Clara walks by wishing Emilio good day. Pedro tells him she has no idea, she'll kill me.
Clara gets in the elevator with Mateo, who is already in it. He notices her shoes, his gift, and asks are you engaged? She tells him Im not talking to you about my personal life. He stops the elevator. He then tells her they are more than employer/ employee. She asks what are we. He says amigos con. Wink...she huffs. Pedro did not propose. Mateo says that's for the best as you have doubts. Well talk about it more at dinner tonight at petit point. She says I'm not falling for that game again. He insists it's for him and her.
I don't know why my velvet #13 ( part 1) will not post. The original was at 10:03 p.m. I reposted around 7:05 and again at 7:15 or so this morning. Ironically the reply to my first retry stuck around. I give up.and hope a moderator can fix it.
Kat, I loved your recap, and am much relieved that you were able to retrieve part 1 from your phone, and that Jarifa was able to find and post that file.
I'm not sure what to make of Pilar (who I think is Benjamin's sister?). But she certainly did her best to try to convince Gloria that Gerardo is interested only in his children and his business, and that he has no interest in Gloria. However, Gloria remains determined.
I could be wrong, but IIRC, Blanca didn't identify herself by name when she called Esteban. I think Max called out her name while she was on the phone, and Esteban probably heard him. She hung up right after that to deal with Max.
Wow, was Jacqueline Bracamonte brought in just to make a plug for Telemundo's Miss Universe Latina competition?
I'm still not sure what I think of Pedro. Yes, he's reasonably good-looking, and he seems to have a good heart, but in so many ways he's such a simpleton. If I felt better about Susan, I'd be happy to see the two of them get married, but right now I don't trust her. She waits eight years to try to contact him about his supposed son? I know that Marga wishes he had chosen her instead of Clara, but I think Marga deserves better. As for Clara...I think Pedro deserves better.
Again, many thanks for the recap. And I'm glad that part 1 finally appeared.
Juanita, thanks for the additions. I looked at the cast list and Jacqueline Broncamantes isn't on it. Since your comment led me to learn it is her real name ( she also dropped to other names that I didn't note, but I imagine they will make an appearance in the future), I bet it is a plug for the miss latina beauty pageant. And yes she was in LA suerte de Loli and also Las no van al Cielo, which I will finish watching some day. It's a comedy. It then led me to look at other cast members and the guy Ana bumped into at the bar isn't listed, so no future romance there. Still waiting for Danilo Carrera to be introduced. He was a protagonist in Sed De Venganza. I didn't much care for that character so it will be interesting to see him in an antagonist role. At least that's how it seems he is being billed.
I was also thankful I didn't have to retype the first recap comment, although hopefully I could have fixed some of the glaring typos if I had.
Also two other models, not to.
Thanks so much, Kat, for the fine recap. I'm sorry about that blasted glitch that culls parts of our recaps.
I think I'm getting more critical as I get older. Hint, hint...I'm already older! Some of the plot devices in telenovelas don't work as well for me as they did in the past. This especially occurs when they do a remake. A number of years ago it might have seemed plausible that Alberto could fend off Cristina for months, saving himself for Ana. And there have been zero hints that Alberto and Ana have ever done the deed. This gives weight to my theory that Isobel, the woman in prison, could be the mother of both of them. Please know that speculation has been fine on Caray all along, and they are not considered spoilers. This might explain why Emilio gets so angry when he thinks Ana is hoping for a life with Alberto. It might just be the actor, but it seems overbearing and ridiculous to speak to an adult woman that way.
Max owes money. I just assumed it was for gambling debts. I don't remember his saying anything about taking the fall for someone else. But I'm pretty sure they're going for a redemption arc. Big clue was not giving the thug Blanca's money.
Ana crying behind the door was a dumb plot device. We saw Alberto get Cris passed out and tucked in in less than 5 minutes. Then he went to Ana's door to explain himself as she seems to believe they had sex. Does she think he did a wham, bam, thank you, ma'am?
Yes, Cris even modeled her lingerie for long suffering Ana. I dread to think what will happen if (probably when) she finds out about Ana and Alberto's relationship since they were around 12.
Yes, Pilar said that Gerardo was after Velvet. But I don't think that's been shown as a fact as yet. Since I dislike Gloria, I enjoyed Pilar pointing out that Gerardo had zero interest in marrying and/or supporting Gloria.
I've noticed another trend. Telemundo is using wigs more and more. The Pedro actor is wearing one. His hair is uniformly black, like a shined shoe and I saw the hair kind of move independently last night.
The woman who claims Pedro is the father of her child and is now crazy about him is odd to say the very least. She waits 9 years (including the pregnancy) to declare herself? Too bad Pedro is too dumb to ask for a DNA test.
I've seen product placement things on TV before, but a whole scene in a telenovela to pitch their reality series. Wow. I did read something on Google about it. Apparently, this is like those dating reality things in that a bunch of women will compete to actually be the contestant for Miss Universe representing Latin America.
Gloria's big money mule plan was pretty much a failure. Ramona and Laura were both arrested. Mauricio and the other DEA guy are trying to turn them against Gloria. Ramona would be all in, except she fears Nacho.
Ernestina got away with the baby, but Gloria had to more or less sacrifice herself. Another cliffhanger that they think we might believe, with Gloria on the ground and Jacinto's foot on her shoulder. But we saw Gloria get arrested by Mauricio much, much later. Mateo is talking about rescuing her, but it's hard to say if he'll succeed or Nacho will send thugs by helicopter to rescue her.
Gloria learned that Nacho has been using kids and drug mules to walk through that tunnel we saw earlier on.
Novelera, thanks for all your insights. I got the impression in one scene, that I didn't elaborate on, in fact I think it was the previous episode, that Miami was where Ana and Alberto kept meeting for one week for the past 7 years. I would have assumed they had a sexual relationship at that time. I think Emilio is just more class conscious and thinks they shouldn't be together for that reason. Time will tell. Unless Ana was adopted, then I don't see how they could have the same mother. In the cast list the child actors are mentioned as 10 year old Ana and Alberto , then 26 years old. More likely scenario might be they are cousins and her mother is a sister to Isobel if we have the trope for hidden love because of being related.
