I will put up a quickie tonight.

Bahar #24

Most of the episode entails Bahar setting Rengin and Timur up and letting them know she knows. Now she wants a divorce.

Nevra is definitely being scammed by her senior novio. He's angling for her to invest more money in the land scheme. He calls her the love of his life

Timur learns that Umay also knows about his affair but Nevra and Timur convince the kids to continue to keep the secret.

I think I've also discovered that Parla is likely Umay's age. Bahar and Timur's relationship started to falter when he traveled to the US (Rengin worked there until 3 years ago). He was incommunicado for a week at that time. Bahar was home pregnant. So that may have been when Parla was birthed, or conceived.

Both the consuegras need biopsies. Nevra on her thyroid and Golgucheck (sp?) on her uterus or some other female organs as Rengin is treating her and she's the ob.

Velvet

#63 Delusional Cristina tells Alberto that he doesn’t know what he’s saying after he drops the bomb about loving another woman. Then she goes predictably nuts, throwing things around Albertos office. ¡Esa perra me las va a pagar! (I’m gonna make this b&*#h pay.) She slams her way out of his office.

Pepita envies Pedro and Marga, who are smooching at work. Pedro invites Marga to Paris. Later he realizes what this actually costs.

Esteban asks Blanca to come to London with him. [Pretty sure he wants to get away from Pilar’s pressure to again steal the Velvet designs.]

Valeria asks Enrique what he’s doing in an office at Velvet. He comes around his desk to try another move on her. But she tells him he’s obsessive, must run in the family.

Esteban tries to convince Sofía to also come to London.

Emilio tells Blanca he was there when Benjamin told Esteban that Blanca was pregnant. And Benjamin never tried to separate them. He took care of her and paid for her studies. He was disgusted at the way his brother treated her. She goes to Esteban who, of course, lies through his teeth.

Esteban is telling Pilar he’s going to London and not copying the designs when Pilar (always one step ahead) calls out to Sofi, who’s just arrived. She tells her brother she’ll tell his daughter what kind of man he is.

Clara again. I am so tired of her. She’s followed Laura and Mateo to an OB/Gyn. I’m pretty sure this has an innocent explanation. Later Clara again plops herself in between Pedro and Marga to moan about Mateo.

Cris has apparently hung out at Velvet drinking. She staggers in to find Victor still hard at work. As predicted, he’s the sperm donor. But I have the feeling he’s as much of a barnacle on her and she is one clinging to Alberto. He has a compromising picture of her on his cell.

Esteban sneaks in to take cell phone pictures of Raul and Ana’s designs. Emilio catches him at it. He’s an easy liar, saying it’s for an analysis of the fabrics he’ll show Alberto. Emilio tells him exactly what he thinks of him.

Emilio tells Alberto about Esteban, but Alberto doesn’t believe it.

It turns out Margara will pay for the Paris trip. Marga and Clara’s idiotic mother returns, still despising Pedro.

Gloria is prepared to bribe the nurse with her emerald jewelry to get her phone from the clinic office.

Cris flakes on the big meeting with the most prestigious diamond merchant in Africa. And Barbie makes a big mess of it.

Cris meets Victor at the Ortegui mansion to get him to leave Velvet. She offers him a $1 million to leave New York.

Bahar

My question is how did Bahar manage to put on such a cheerful face all day when she knew what she was going to do that night? How did she pull off being so lovey-dovey with Timur in the morning? She sets them up at dinner and then says it with flowers!

She sure looked shellshocked as she went to clear out of the house and pile up stuff to make a marriage bonfire.

Timur is stunned. I have liked the writing on this. In the usual telenovela he would be a straight-up bad and selfish guy, a plotting and smiling moustache-twirler of a villain. But there they’ve made it clear that he needs both women. He even tearfully told Bahar she was the reason he was able to get where he is in life. He’s obviously a weak man and I’ve been wondering what would happen to him if he lost both women. He will probably completely fall apart.

Bahar

Maggie, I agree totally about the writing. And it's true, Timur is weak, but also not really a villain. Reminds me of the song by Olivia Newton John from the 70s. Torn Between 2 Lovers. Well not totally reminiscent as it is a woman who never actually acted on her love for the other guy, but the refrain spins in my brain whenever Timur has his attacks of conscience. I was actually surprised Nevra stood up so much for Bahar, until her reasoning was explained. Timur has done to Bahar what his father did to her.

I don't think Bahar is vindictive enough to take the house from Nevra and Timur when it is discovered she owns it (at least part of it, though Nevra managed to use the house as security. I think the bank needs to eat that loss by not doing due diligence and getting Bahar's approval. Isn't it fraud on their part also). I would transfer it to the kids names.

Well the affair is now known. Parla's paternity is the next revelation we can look forward to

velvet

Many thanks, novelera, for this short but superb recap! I can't think of
anything important that you've left out.

"Delusional Christina" -- Perfect! I may borrow that.

Though Cris is certainly delusional, that doesn't prevent her from being a
real threat to Ana, once she knows Ana is the "other woman." She not only
threatens to make the perra pay, she also vows to destroy her.

Yes, I agree that Esteban's sudden wish to return to London is to prevent
his having to continue to do Pilar's bidding or have her spill the beans
about Esteban to Sofia.

I'm surprised that Alberto doesn't believe Emilio's account of Esteban. I
guess Esteban's account of his at last getting back to the woman he loves
resonates so strongly with Alberto that he loses his good judgment.

For a while, I was enjoying Clara, but now I too am tired of her. She
immediately assumes that Laura's visiting an OB/GYN accompanied by Mateo
can only mean that Laura is pregnant and Mateo is the father. And she not
only assumes that, she spreads the word to just about everyone she knows.

How did Victor get a photo on his cellphone of Cris in her underwear? Would
she willingly pose for him, unafraid of any problems that might arise?
Especially since she's really cold toward him after he's done the deed.

I knew the Orteguis were wealthy, but Cris's offer to Victor of $1 million
to leave New York still surprised me.

Bahar

Kat – yes! You put it well, Timur is not a villain. Over on A.Mar we have the stock villain in the form of Sergio, who has no redeeming qualities and is evil through and through.

Also, Rengin is not a standard husband-stealing hussy. I feel for her too, waiting all these years and just getting crumbs of time from Timur while he promises and promises and tells her to wait.

The only truly awful person in this show is Suegra Nevra. She’s really a piece of work. And yes, I was wondering about how the bank loaned her money against a house she doesn’t even own!

Bahar

It was fascinating to me to watch Evren physically recoil when near Nevra. His face showed pure loathing. Nevra looked pensively after him, so I wonder if she will eventually recognize him. Do we know Evren’s early name?

Convenient for the writers/crew and for us to have everyone working at the same hospital, in that hospital, or otherwise connected to it!!!

Timur is sad to me. He tries to pose as a super-doc, unable to relax and be himself. He is involved and needs/loves two women, both of whom are stronger than he is. His posing for the camera crew was humorous, but underneath it showed how needy he is. I wonder if this was the fault of Aziz. Perhaps he favored Evren in order to shame Timur into a “better” son. Nevra certainly got rid of Evren when she had the opportunity. I wonder if Nevra was always this harsh, or if Aziz caused that, too. Yet, don’t we think Aziz cared for Bahar (and secretly rewarded her in his will) because she was kind to him?

I remember the excellent Timur actor from Yargi/Secretos de familia. He can show a multitude of emotions in his face.

Velvet

Clara seems so overwrought at all this! They frequently have the actress way over-react. Her expression during these outbursts is very unflattering! Speaking of unflattering, Cris’s fury was frightening! If I were Alberto, I would run for the exit! I guess Cris will land on Ana tonight. That has been coming for a long time. Ana has shown empathy for Cris. I’m guessing this won’t be mutual!

Weird how many give Esteban the benefit of the doubt, even with evidence of his guilt.

Wonder when Gloria will escape and show up. She doesn’t seem to have improved at all from her rehabilitation.

Victor stands to make a million bucks for his night of passion. He will likely turn up again at an inopportune time for Cris!

Carlos is scary! Everything is falling into place for an exciting ending of this story.

velvet

Thanks, novelera.

I can’t believe Albert told Cris there was another woman. He’s seen how Cris overreacts. He put Ana in danger. I’m worried that the only person who can save Ana from Cris is Carlos. Out of the frying pan, into the fire.

Pedro & Marga, Clara & Mateo—juveniles.

Victor is another Carlos.

I might not have the Friday recap until Sunday.

Bahar

What was it Timur’s mom said to Bahar’s mom? Something like what Timur did is like what happened to both of them. Was Bahar’s mom cheated on too?

The village health visit was interesting, and the visit to the man with two wives made a big point. Boy, Timur just wouldn’t leave Bahar alone, and Rengin had to watch that going on all day. I gather Rengin didn’t protest the idea of transferring to another hospital, right?

velvet

I had comments after Thursday’s show, but all I can think about now is how to get someone to give me a million bucks to go away.

TELEMUNDO/OT:
K, Novelera, Juanita, Darcy, SpanProf, Deb & Co.,: Wake me up when "DINISTIAS CASILLAS" debuts this Fall.

Getting annoyed of this Turkish garbage.

Bahar

Yes, it did sound like Bahar’s father was unfaithful just like Timur’s father. Lots of backstories here!

I enjoyed the volunteer trip to the country. All of our doctors seem to be very effective when focused. I liked Rengin here. The man with two wives was interesting. I thought his wives looked enough alike to be sisters! Might be. Maybe the town is full of relatives! The multiple circumcision event was humorous, a real bargain for the townspeople. Each boy had the prince costume (not sure what it represents) to wear (white with a cap), so does the town have many of these stored somewhere in case of need?

I wonder if Rengin will transfer. It’s so convenient for Viewerville to have them in one place!

Bahar

My thought on the guy with 2 wives that lives in a barn because of his unfaithfulness is it didn't make sense. I thought his ex got the house and thus he lives in a barn. Then we see his 2 wives live there with him. So wife 2 didn't have a child for years, then finally she's got one in the oven. Made me wonder if husband was shooting blanks and he's being cuckolded. Not that it matters. It was fun being out of the hospital and seeing what I assume was native dress.

velvet #64 part 1

Victor turns down the money Cris offered, along with signing an NDA. It’s not money I want from you, he says. Imagine how strong my feelings are that not even 1 million is enough for me to stop seeing you. I’m crazy [we can put a period here] about you, the night we spent together was unforgettable. Vic is sure that Cris feels the same.

Cris slaps Vic. Ha, enjoyed that, too. She can keep doing it if she likes. He adds, don’t deny what I know you feel for me. Cris worries this was a mistake. He stops her from leaving and pulls her close. It’s not a mistake, he tells her, that’s not what you thought last night, you were moaning with passion and begging for more. He kisses her, she bites him, and that sparks another round of sex.

Val walks past Valentin as he’s leaving Velvet. I guess it’s been a while since she didn’t remember him right away. He tells her he was there for a business meeting—if you could call it that. It was supposed to be with Cris and Barbie. They asked him to partner in the jewelry collection. But Cris never made it, he says, and Barbara has no idea what she’s doing. Val is interested. I’d like to hear more about what happened, she says, what if we went out tonight to catch up? He accepts.

Barbie whines about the botched meeting. She was nervous. Enrique is ticked, she made him look like an idiot in front of Valentin. He’s sorry he trusted her or the assistant she hired. And BTW, where is he? Barbie says he’s handling a personal matter. [handling is the keyword.] He blames himself for thinking Barbie would be ready for this. Barbie wants to call Valentin back for a do-over. Enrique notes, Valentin doesn't need us. He only agreed to meet because of our friendship. You just lost your sponsor and project. This meeting was your debut and your termination.

Ay, no. Valentin is meeting with Pilar at the only bar/lounge/restaurant in town where all the Velvet characters go. She heard that Velvet came to him about a new jewelry line. News travels fast, he replies. Pilar notes that she’s family and don’t keep secrets from each other. Valentin doubts he will partner with Velvet. Pilar is not surprised, Cris and Barbie have zero experience. He mentions Valeria being interested. He calls Val a very smart woman.

Pilar admits Val is smart but sadly, Albert has never given her rightful place. She adds, the same would happen to you. It would be different if you chose to work with me. He asks if she’s also looking to branch out into jewelry. Of course, she replies, I’m sure your family and I could do great things together. They raise their classes.

Val asks Barbie and Enrique why she wasn’t included in the Valentin meeting. Barbie has the nerve to be snotty. It’s not your project. Do you see me telling you what to do with the website? Val answers, the website is great, but I can’t say the same about your relationship with Valentin. Valentin and I are old friends. He told me your proposal left a lot to be desired.

Barbie thinks they don’t need Valentin. Val laughs, are you sure? The Rubalcabas would add prestige to your project. I could make that a reality. Enrique is interested. Val sets a condition, if she gets Valentin to sign, she becomes a part of the project. Barbie says not in your dreams but Enrique says it’s a deal!

Cris comes to Albert’s office. She wants to talk. She hasn’t been able to sleep. She can’t stop thinking about her father’s death, their divorce, and about her pregnancy, which should be beautiful and exciting. Albert’s sorry. Cris says, I don’t understand why you chose to be with another woman and why you’re leaving my child [and maybe Victor's] without a father.

velvet #64 part 2

Albert says he’s explained this many times. I will be there for my child. We will be good parents, but we can’t be together. Wouldn’t it be better than to grow up witnessing problems? Cris disagrees and says, I swear I’d die without you. Albert tells her not to say that. Cris states, I don’t know how to live without you. I’ll kill myself if your not with me. Albert tells her she’s strong, she can handle this. He hugs Cris just as Ana appears at the doorway.

Cris pours it on thick, while Ana listens in. Cris says, put yourself in my shoes. Please give me a chance. Let’s try again. Let me love you like before, when we were so happy. Albert feels bad for her and hugs her again. Ana ducks away.

Laura has invited Clara to the special Velvet bar/lounge/restaurant to explain. She apologizes for coming in between Mateo and Clara. Clara behaves like her usual bratty self. Laura explains, I’m having a baby, but it isn’t Mateo’s. Things ended between us a long time ago. We realized we’d be better as friends. I moved to Montreal and married someone else. We wanted children but I suffered several miscarriages. We saved eggs and sperm, but he died unexpectedly.

Clara is stunned. Laura says, I continued with my plans but couldn’t carry the baby. I decided to use a surrogate. That’s why I’m in NY and Mateo has accompanied me through the whole process. And he said he will continue to help. My husband’s family doesn’t agree with my decision. Mateo is peeking from around a corner and then walks in to join the convo.

Marga’s mom, Chonita, explains why she came to NY. The business is going bankrupt, and she came to ask aunties in NJ for money. She shows Marga. It’s a big sum. Chonita doesn’t want Clara to find out as not to upset her more since she broke up with Mateo. She’s telling Marga because she’s the strong sister and can handle everything. Clara’s always been the dreamer, the one who brings joy.

Poor Marga, her mother is awful. Chonita asks, do you have a boyfriend? Marga lies and says no, she’s on a desert island with a coconut [?] Chonita replies, it’s better to be alone than in bad company. Imagine if you were with that loser Pedro? I’d die.

Clara’s ready to get an earful from Mateo. She’s embarrassed and feels awful. But Mateo has something else to say. I don’t want to waste more time. Spending time with Laura and learning about her husband’s death opened my eyes. Life goes by in an instant. Cutting to the chase—Mateo produces a diamond ring and asks Clara La Salvadora to marry him. He shouts it out so all the patrons can hear.

Albert took his stupid pills today. He asks Barbie to help him with Cris. He’s worried about her. You should have thought of that before you broke her heart, Barbie replies, what do you want me to do? Albert replies, you’re her best friend, she loves you like a sister. She’ll listen to you. Talk to her and make her understand she can’t keep hurting herself, insisting on something that’s not going to happen. She needs to be levelheaded.

Barbie lays it out for Albert. Levelheaded? You do know Cris is pregnant with your child. She still carries the trauma of finding her mother after she committed suicide, her father just died, and if that wasn’t enough, you just asked her for a divorce because you have a lover. How is she supposed to be levelheaded?

Albert asks, she told you? Barbie replies, yes, I’m her best friend. She tells me everything. You were horrible to her. Cris is a fragile woman and I’m panicking that she’ll do something crazy like her mother. If anything happens to her, it will be your fault. Albert is troubled.

velvet #64 part 3

Clara says yes and applause breaks out at the restaurant.

That idiot, Marina, takes the jewelry and Gloria gets her phone for one call.

Cris tells Barbie that Vic didn’t take the money. They resolved the issue another way. Barbie asks how. Cris won’t give details, but she knows she will be pregnant very soon.

Glo calls Cris but she ignores it. Barbie tells Cris that Albert spoke to her, and she tried to make him feel guilty. Glo keeps calling Cris. Cris finally answers. Glo starts, listen very carefully. You have no idea how important this call is for you. Cris asks, where are you? Glo replies, my daughter and Alberto conspired to kidnap me.

Cris thought Glo was in the Hamptons. Glo says she’s been locked away in a place crawling with alcoholics and drug addicts. It was so I wouldn’t tell anyone what I know. I have very important info that will change your life. Come get me.

Clara excitedly tells the remaining Velvet girls that she’s marrying Mateo. They’re shocked. Isn’t he having a baby with another woman? Clara explains the misunderstanding. And Mateo promised he’d give her the freedom to pursue her dreams. Squee…Clara says mom will be so happy. Marga replies, of course, you’re her favorite daughter. Clara kind of confirms that to Marga’s dismay. Anyway, she asks the girls to help her plan the wedding. And she doesn’t want Mateo to bear all the costs. She’s going to ask her parents for money. Uh oh…

Val meets with Valentin at that only place in town where the Velvet characters go. He’s going on about Africa’s birds and diamonds. She doesn’t look very interested. But she eventually asks, have you given any thought to Velvet’s jewelry line? Yes, he replies, but I don’t see much of a future. Barbie and Cris know about wearing jewelry but nothing about making it. Val asks him to give them a chance to show their designs before deciding.

Valentin answers, maybe, but I’m not interested in working with a company that won’t give you the place you deserve. Why do you say that Val asks. He replies, it’s what your Tia Pilar told me. She seemed to know a lot about what’s happening at Velvet. Hmm… Val asks, did she say anything more? She made me an offer to work with her, he says, you know she’s been friends with my mother her whole life. She might like the idea.

Val says it would be a shame if you partnered with her instead of us. She reaches out to touch Valentin’s hand. If you worked at Velvet, we’d see each other every day. Valentin responds to Val’s touch. He seems to like that idea.

Cris has TN teleported to Glo’s rehab. Cris is sorry. She didn’t think Glo was living like this. [boo hoo.] This is much worse than you can imagine, Glo says, Alberto is punishing me for what happened to his mother, as if it were my fault. [well, if the high heels fit…] That stupid woman showed up to ruin my life, and yours too, right? Cris assents.

Glo continues, she hated you, she didn’t think you were good enough for her son. Cris notes, she made me feel that way many times. Fortunately, that woman is dead now, Glo says and asks, how are things with Alberto? Awful, Cris replies, Alberto asked for a divorce. He’s in love with another woman. Glo asks, did he say who she was? No, Cris answers, and despite investigating, I haven’t figured it out. Glo says, she’s been in front of you this whole time.

Cris’ eyes widen. You know who she is? Glo replies, I thought I was doing right by keeping quiet, but I realize now I was mistaken. Cris is ticked. I asked you many times if you knew and you said you didn’t know anything. Okay, Glo says, I’ll tell you, but I need something in return. Promise to get me out of here. Cris says whatever you want. Who is she?

velvet #64 part 4

Glo hints, she works at Velvet and she’s Alberto’s favorite employee. Isabel adored her and everyone at Velvet thinks she’s so talented. Who is she? Cris realizes— Ana Velasquez. Yes, Glo hisses, Alberto and that seamstress have been making a fool of you all this time. Do you realize you had your husband’s lover made your wedding dress? Wow.

No, Albert couldn’t be with a woman like that, Cris says in disbelief, think about it. She’s just a seamstress. I know, Glo replies, and I understand completely. But unfortunately, it’s true. Cris asks, how long have they been together?

Glo explains, since they were very young. When Ben found out, he sent Albert to school in Spain. He made us believe he broke up with her, but it was a lie. The moment he returned from Europe, Ben wanted to name him president of Velvet, but Albert didn’t want that. Even after Ben’s heart attack, he stayed with her. They intended to run away together and would have if Ben hadn’t taken his life that night.

Glo continues, Ana Velasquez is to blame for everything. She’s a social climber who’s been manipulating Alberto this whole time. And for what… to get her hands on what is ours. Things got worse when Isabel showed up. The two of them put the idea of divorce in Albert’s head.

Cris asks, you knew all this and never told me? Her anger rises—I’m tired of this. Shut up! I’m tired of everybody only being interested in me and my family for money! Glo replies, I didn’t want to lie to you, but Albert lied to me too when he started dating you. He said he had nothing with the seamstress and really wanted to marry you. I’m not lying, she lies. He made me promise I wouldn’t tell you about Ana. Know why I agreed? Because I thought it would be the best thing for you.

Cris simmers—absolutely no one thinks about what’s best for me. I’m alone in all of this. But know what? I will destroy her… her and everyone else who kept this a secret, including you. Glo asks her to calm down. Listen carefully, I’m on your side because I went through the same thing. She advises, anger is a poor motivator. Fine, get revenge on them, but first calm down do it with a cool head. I’m the only one who told you the truth. Do your part by getting me out, and I’ll do mine by helping you get revenge. Cris walks out without another word.

Ana tells Marga she told Albert she’s leaving Velvet. What did he say? The same stuff, Ana replies, he loves me. Marga asks Ana if she’s sure. Ana feels she has no choice. I can’t stand seeing Cris suffer over the loss of her father and her marriage. The only strength she has is the baby she’s expecting. Marga says it would be pointless for her to stay at Velvet without Ana. Ana thinks it would be good to take Marga as a partner. Marga is willing to learn whatever is needed.

Cris goes into a meltdown phase. She flashes back on interactions with Ana, including finding Albert and Ana cozying up at the rehearsal dinner. She accused Ana then. But we remember that Mateo came to the rescue with BS he was the one involved with Ana. Cris apologized to Albert for the misunderstanding. She remembers the auction where Albert tried to outbid Carlos for Crimson 76. Cris throws stuff around, screaming, shouting, and crying. She thinks about what Glo told her. How could I be so stupid, she says to herself. I’m going to destroy you, Ana Velasquez. I promise.

velvet #64 part 5

Marina enters Glo’s room with dinner. Glo says, that fool [Cris] turned her back on me like everyone else. Miserable traitors. Glo won’t eat. Marina rubs it in—your plan didn’t work. Your people are forgetting you. Glo answers, quite the opposite. My family has no idea what’s coming thanks to me. If my DIL doesn’t get me out of here, I’ll at least have the pleasure of seeing their lives destroyed. What did they do to you, Marina wonders. What do you care, Glo fires back, from now on everything changes. They wanted to punish me, that was their mistake. Learn this lesson—cross me and you will pay. Marina looks frightened.

Sofi is at Blanca’s and on her laptop. She’s applying to colleges. I want to study something related to fashion, she tells Blanca, and I have my father’s support. Blanca asks where the schools are. In the UK, Sofi replies, but I’m applying to one here in NY. [maybe FIT?] Blanca thinks this is great. Education changes everything. You’re a Marquez and you have Cousin Alberto to help you. Sofi says she also has a successful aunt and that fashion is in Los Marquez’s blood.

There’s a knock at the door. Sofi thinks it’s Rick. Surprise! It’s toxic boyfriend Thomas. He found her with a location tracker and the help of a mutual friend, Diane.

Val fills Albert in on the jewelry project. Val thinks it could be a good project, but Valentin’s not very interested in it. She says that Pilar also contacted Valentin. Albert correctly guesses that Pilar is interested in launching her own jewelry line. Val muses, she knows every step we take and keeps wanting to steal our ideas.

Albert says this means the person who gave her Raul’s collection is still working for her. Someone close to us, Val adds, very few of us knew about the jewelry line. Albert asks Val if she has any suspects. She thought Tio Esteban but now she isn’t sure. He says he thought so too, but Esteban proved his innocence and has no relationship with Pilar. Val wonders if it’s an employee who heard about the project in the halls. We can’t let Pilar continue to sabotage us, Albert says, if she spoke to Valentin to rob us of a partner, she’s capable of anything. We must be careful whom we talk to and about what until we find the spy.

Sofi whisks Thomas away from the apartment. How could you show up like this? My parents forbade us from seeing each other. Since when do you care, Thomas replies. Sofi asks, what about your legal problems? Thomas says he wasn’t charged. Sofi says she still dreams about the accident. Thomas blames the victim for the accident. But Sofi notes that Thomas was under the influence while driving.

Thomas fires back that his family paid off the girl. It’s all in the past. He tells her he’s staying in Manhattan. He wonders why she’s staying in such a yucky place. He wants to go out and party. Sofi states her partying days are over. And she has to go to work tomorrow. Thomas is skeptical. What happened to the Sofi who loved to party and get high in the best bars in London? Don’t you miss your old life?

Pilar tells Esteban she wants the jewelry designs. He’s hesitant. She says, I’m letting you go to London in a few months, but first, do your job and get me that new collection and the jewelry designs. After that, a part of our deal will be fulfilled. What’s the catch, Esteban asks, you don’t let go of your prey so easily. Pilar wants to be more involved in Sofi’s future. She’s thinking about paying for Sofi’s education. Don’t you want to make up for squandering her college fund?

velvet #64 part 6

I never imagined you’d care about your niece, Esteban snarks. Pilar sees it as a long term investment. Sofi has a future. She could work for Pima Fashion. After you give me that information, I’ll let you take her. Is it a deal? Esteban hands over Rick’s personal info on his bank account, his apartment in Queens, his cell number and other things. Enough to incriminate him, Pilar says with delight. Thanks, hermanito.

Sofi asks Thomas to leave. Rick gets off the elevator and walks over. Is everything okay? Yes, Sofi replies. She tells Thomas to have fun in Manhattan. Thomas asks Rick, who are you? Rick says he’s Sofi’s boyfriend. Thomas laughs, no, it can’t be. Sofi, first this place and now, this boyfriend? It’s true, you’re broke. You must also be lying about your family running a fashion house. He grabs Sofi’s arm—let’s go.

Rick steps in. Let her go, idiot. My girl doesn’t want you here, get out. Sofi asks Thomas to go, she doesn’t want any trouble. Thomas asks her for a second chance and says he won’t give up. He will continue to seek her out. He leaves. Sofi hugs Rick.

Marga tells Pedro that they can’t tell her mom they’re together right now. Pedro wonders why her mom never liked him. It’s not you, Marga says, my mother always wanted prince charming for us. She always judged men by what they have instead of what they are. Pedro answers, what I feel for you has no price. There’s more than money in life.

Marga smiles, and since you brought up money, I have a confession. My parents are having a rough time. They owe a lot of money. That’s why my mom is here, they need cash. So I’m going to give her all my money. The Paris trip will have to wait. Pedro is disappointed for Marga. He asks, can’t Clara help them? No, she replies, my mother doesn’t want to worry her. She worries me instead.

Pedro correctly states it’s unfair that she must deal with all the family problems, while Clara doesn’t. Marga answers that life is like that sometimes. Sometimes families are perfect, other times not so much. I’m dealing with the not so much. I’m caught in the middle, but I don’t care. Cash is cash, I have all I need. If I have you, Pedro, I have everything. He smiles and she asks for a hug.

Sofi explains her relationship with Thomas to Rick. She says they broke up months ago. She thought she was in love with him, thought they had a lot in common, but he got in trouble. He parties a lot. Rick asks, did your father know? Sofi says her dad was different then. I was alone and after my mom’s death, nobody took care of me in London. But Thomas was always there.

Thomas comes from a wealthy family, Sofi continues, that’s why he does whatever he wants. But one night, he drove while high and hit a girl. I was with him. He tried to hide it, but they caught him. The police opened an investigation and so my father brought me here. He [Thomas] wouldn’t take responsibility. The girl is fine now, and they paid her off. Rick asks Sofi to be honest. Do you still have feelings for him? Sofi says no. Thomas is a part of the past I want to leave behind. Rick understands and accepts.

Albert meets with Esteban at that special Velvet place. Esteban notes that Albert is quiet. Is something wrong? Albert says that Barbie met with Valentin to propose working together on Velvet’s jewelry project. Hours later, Pilar called Valentin to meet with her, and she made the same offer. Esteban puts on the act. So, somebody’s still passing her info from Velvet? Albert says he’s going to hire an investigator to help find the person responsible. Esteban is speechless.

And we are out.

Velvet

I wasn't totally watching when I thought I heard Carlos speaking and lo and behold it was Valentin! Valeria is flirting for all she's worth to get him on board. These 2 can never be a couple. 2 Val's!

I enjoyed Chris cutting Gloria down and not helping her get out of the loony bin. she certainly does crazy very well. She needs to be there also. Thanks dondi. I watched it last also. I'm devouring Fatmagül rather than looking forward to this TN.

Velvet

Well, dondi, you've done it again! A magnificent recap! I can't think of a thing to add to your splendid, comprehensive, and delightful account.

Cris has certainly found herself a wacko to be the potential baby daddy. He seems only slightly less dangerous than Carlos.

I'm wondering what if any "very important info" Gloria could tell Cris that will change Cris's life. My guess is it's just a bluff on Gloria's part to persuade Cris to get her out of the rehab place.

So Esteban has decided to help Pilar throw Rick to the wolves. I wonder how Sofia will respond if/when Rick is arrested. My guess is that she will not be pleased, and if/when she realizes that Esteban has had a hand in Rick's being accused, she may do all she can to undermine Esteban's efforts. At least I hope so. Perhaps the private investigator Alberto plans to hire may also be helpful here.

I have nothing more to add except to say that I loved all your snarky asides!

Velvet

I watched the original Velvet, and while the 50’s fashion was fun and having a department store like Velvet then is more plausible than today, I hated the way they treated Cristina. In that show, she went from happily married to the man of her dreams who married her for money, to justifiably angry but not insane, and then suddenly losing her mind. It didn’t make sense. This show has done a much better job of setting up Cris from the beginning with a dark streak and possible mental illness that will make whatever vengeance she has planned seem like a reasonable next step. For her, anyway. But nice to see that Gloria has meet her match.

K., I found your comments about the original version of Velvet extremely interesting. Many thanks! I'm hoping that from time to time you'll make mention of additional aspects that were dealt with differently from those in the current version.

velvet

Thanks so much, dondi, for another spectacular recap. I was out of town all weekend.

Velvet is wearing on me. That whole scene with Gloria where she not only outs Ana, but makes her seem like a terrible person just made me sigh. Lately I'm preferring the plots of the dizis more than the telenovelas or maybe it's just Telemundo's versions of them.

I just assume that we'll be treated to a couple of awful episodes where Rick is blamed for everything and Cris goes postal on Ana.

I'm watching Bahar and Karsu and prefer both of them. The "villains" are more nuanced and the heroines less gullible.

I'm especially tired of Clara and of Marga being so annoyingly self sacrificing.
