It felt like a lot was cut from this episode. Cem (Cam?) steals the diamond bracelet and after Bahar is unfairly accused she is reassured that the cleaning staff found it. But then later she knows it was Cem. How did she know that? And there were scenes that just felt choppy. The whole thing felt rushed.
How come Bahar gets to see her daughter only 2 hours a week? She’s not accused of being abusive. Does sole custody mean limited visitation?
We’ll find out tomorrow who gets to be head honcho. It reminded me of the competition shows where they say And the winner is, and then the music plays and everybody has to wait and wait seems like forever to hear who it is.
Mentiras entre Rascaclelos…Lies Amidst the Skyscrapers (great title)
Part 1 of 3
We again see what Tania did for Alberto. But first let me interject how much more attractive Yon is with loose, curly hair rather than the slicked back go getter look.
Elena shows her claws. Right after Valeria learns that Valentín did not survive, his mother begins snarling at Val in front of the others in the hospital waiting room. She says he died only a week after he made Valeria his sole heir. Elena also accuses Enrique of being part of the plan.
Emilio walks into Blanca’s apartment and finds Esteban there wearing an apron and with a glass of wine in his hand. Esteban isn’t happy Emilio has keys. The con artist says Blanca asked him to live with her, making it sound more than a gesture of kindness. He keeps insisting on Emilio coughing up the keys, and he does so on his way out.
Valeria is a wreck at the hospital. Gloria tries to comfort her.
Rick tells Sofi he’s going to refuse the scholarship to study in London. He says she means everything to him. Plus, he’s already realized his dreams, being in NY, working with Raúl. Sofi insists she won’t let him lose this opportunity because of her and stalks out.
Enrique is a mess. He’s ready to start drinking when Cris tells him to pull up his big boy pants. She sends him off to bed with a pill bottle, insisting he take only one. Guess she has a connection to get them in bulk.
Blanca and Esteban are enjoying some poetry by The Bard. He reads a few lines aloud and moves in for a kiss. Blanca tells him it’s true she still has feelings for him, but he’s done a lot of damage to her. He’s in the friend zone now.
Jacinto has come home buzzed and is his usual charming self with Tania. She manages to convince him that “Gabriel” is asleep in the bedroom.
Alberto is at the Miami Airport waiting for his flight, and he calls Celeste Jones to say he’s on his way to NYC and would like to meet with her. Yep, no Real ID’s or passports are needed on Telenovela Express Airlines.
Ana has a meeting with Sara Sahgún and Carlos. Sara hopes she doesn’t harbor resentments (for jumping Al’s bones 3 years ago). Ana looks like maybe she still does. Carlos explains that Sara wants to invest. She offers to buy the factory in Oaxaca, keeping the same relationship with the workers there. Carlos says they’ll be three equal partners. Ana is given a folder with the proposed business deal to sign. She wants time to review it.
Part 2 of 3
At the velorio (viewing) for Valentín, Elena tells the distraught Valeria that she’s going to contest Valentín’s will. She adds that she believes Valeria was behind what happened to her son. Gloria manages to defend her daughter. Elena says that neither of them are to come to the funeral.
Blanca tells Emilio her tumor was benign. He’s come to ask why Esteban is living in her apartment. After she explains the friend zone, she senses there’s something else. So, he breaks the news about Pepita getting her job. She’s demoted to just being one of the seamstresses.
Alberto meets with Celeste In New York. She shows him a picture of the real Gabriel on her phone. He’d been in Turkey for work in Adana. Something about the word Adana seems to register with Alberto. She explains how she searched and eventually learned that Gabriel Jones had been evacuated and eventually ended up in Miami. That’s why she showed up at his house in the Keys, looking for her husband. “Maybe it was you they brought from Adana.”
He explains to Celeste that he lost his memory from the accident, and he doesn’t know if he had been in Turkey or in some other place. He tells her Barbie’s fiction about a car accident in Los Angeles and being brought to the Keys to recover. Celeste says that’s not possible. She saw hospital records that he’d been in a hospital in Miami for days. Gabriel Jones was evacuated to Istanbul and then flown to Miami on Cloud Airlines. She offers to help him search for the truth in New York.
Eyes bugging out maniacally Cris finds out Al has flown the coop. She orders Jacinto to find him. She tells Jacinto there’s another call coming in, interrupting her harangue. It’s “Gabriel” calling “Fiorella”. Her eyes almost leave their sockets when he tells her he’s in New York City. She tries to say she’s in Los Angeles and will catch the next flight, and he tells her she’s lying. Then she asks who he’s with, head tilted, eyes narrowing. He says that he took some money to come to New York. He thinks the answers are here. He isn’t buying her manipulations, but he tells her he’ll meet her at the Ortegui Shipping Company at 5PM!
Enrique and Valeria meet in some storeroom. He’s still trying. She tells him that Valentín gave her unconditional love, called her his goddess. She really looks completely devastated. The doctor calls about her blood tests taken at the hospital. She’s pregnant and doesn’t know who the father is.
Cris meets with Gloria, one of her two partners in crime in keeping Alberto prisoner for 3 years. Cris tells her that “Gabriel” (she corrects Glo when she calls the man Alberto!) had gotten restless, was refusing his meds and no longer believes what she tells him. The two rag on the people they put in charge of the kidnapped man. Cris begs her not to tell Carlos; he’ll just complicate things.
The years of her brain marinating in alcohol don’t appear to have done much damage. Gloria always has a plan. She calls Alessandro, saying she needs some documents.
Jacinto is attacking Tania about helping Alberto get away. Marina interrupts the physical attack but rips into Tania verbally for upsetting their crooked apple cart.
Part 3 of 3
Gloria, despite what she said to Cris, goes straight to Carlos to tell him Alberto is in New York. He comes…this close…to punching her. Lots of crazy eyes.
Alberto is bidding a fond farewell to Celeste when, wow, we see Mateo rounding the corner talking on his phone. He sees Alberto and swears to himself that it was his friend. Unfortunately, the writers aren’t done torturing us because Alberto jumps right into a cab that doesn’t even get stuck in traffic.
Turns out Mateo was on his way to meet with Ana to review the business plan Sara gave her. As is sometimes said in TNs, Mateo gives it to her sin anestesia. Alberto is alive! He just saw him three blocks away.
Pilar has shown up at Velvet. Emilio looks like he’s seen a roach. She gives him that shark smile, telling him he’ll be the first to go. She says he reminds her of the gargoyles in medieval cathedrals. Smirking, she tells him that now Pima and Velvet are the same company.
Cris rushes into the lobby of Ortegui Shipping. Alberto tells her he doesn’t exactly remember who he is, but he knows the streets of New York like the back of his hand. He pulls out the piece of paper he took from her suitcase with the address where they’re standing. “I’m tired of the lies. Who am I?”
Mateo insists that it wasn’t only his looks, it was also the way he moves. You know these things about a lifelong friend. Mateo remarks that Ana is moving on and she insists it’s necessary. He says that he can’t move on. The woman he loves is with someone else. Just then Carlos pops up without an invitation. Grinning and looking goofy, he says he wants to be everything to Ana. Mateo gives Ana a big side eye.
Valeria is sobbing, wondering why she’s pregnant now when Valentín SO wanted a child. Enrique tells her that he loves her and doesn’t care whose child she’s expecting. They’ll be a family. [Hope Val remembers he forgot his daughter’s birthday.] She tells him she feels horrible and wants to be alone.
Cris and Alberto are in a restaurant. She hands him a folder saying that it contains all the answers to his questions about the accident. “It’s true we lived in New York. We loved each other since childhood.” [!!] She goes on telling her fantasies as if they’d happened. "Some guy was driving too fast. He died but his girlfriend survived. Her family tried to blame the accident on you." She’s brought some paperwork, including some AI newspaper clipping. [You gotta hand it to Alessandro. That was pretty good work.]
Blanca and Esteban are talking. She says she plans to help Jenni buy a house in Miami. Esteban says a house there would be costly. Ay, Blanca! She tells the serial embezzler she’d been careful with her savings and shows him her bank statement.
Alberto tells Cris he met with Celeste today. He saw a document indicating that he’d arrived from Turkey. He didn’t arrive from Los Angeles. “What was I doing in Turkey? I didn’t have a car accident. They pulled me out of the escombros (rubble) in Adana.” Cris: “You believe a perfect stranger more than your wife?” “She doesn’t have any reason to lie to me.” Cris gets frantic, saying Celeste is a scammer, trying to get money from them. He again says Celeste doesn’t have any reason to lie to him. “And I do?” “You haven’t stopped lying to me since I regained consciousness. Then show me! Take me to the place we lived where I could meet with the people I knew!”
I was glad to see the folder Alessandro put together didn’t get Alberto’s eye off the ball. As he said a bit earlier in this episode, he’s no tonto.
Novelera
I prefer Al's tousled hair too.
I'm hoping it's Valentin's baby. I'm also hoping the accident scene discovers the bullet in the tree and signs of the tussle that ensued. I agree it was an accident but I also want Enrique to suffer. I can't believe Val was banned from the funeral.
I liked the not stuck in traffic comment. Made me laugh in agreement.
OT
I'm still hopeful someone steps up for next Wed for me. I think it's the grand finale. Not sure how much pain I'll be in after my dental procedures that morning....who likes to do 2 hour grand finales?
Novelerea, many thanks for yet another splendid recap, written as always
with clarity, grace, and humor. And even some useful Spanish vocab.
Add me to the list of fans for Alberto's loose, curly hair (yes, it's
"Gabriel" who has the new look, but with less than a week to go, I
decided to push things along by calling him Alberto).
Your recap is filled with delightful phrases--Elena "show[ing] her claws,"
Cris telling Enrique to "pull up his big boy pants," and the NY taxicab
"that doesn't even get stuck in traffic," to note three of my favorites.
I was surprised that Cris handed Enrique a bottle of pills. Given his
distraught state, I'd worry (or, to be honest, hope) that he'd take them
all.
Not only doesn't Alberto (OK, here I guess I need to say "Gabriel") have a
Real ID, as far as I know he has no ID documents at all. How fortunate for
him and for us that he's chosen Telenovela Express Airlines for his trip to
New York.
Wow, Celeste seems to have some serious detective skills, carefully tracing
"Gabriel Jones's" trip from Turkey and noting the several-day stay in Miami.
I loved your pointing out about Gloria that "The years of her brain
marinating in alcohol don’t appear to have done much damage."
I'm surprised that Blanca showed her bank account info to Esteban, "the
serial embezzler." "Ay, Blanca" indeed!
Will Cris be foolish enough to let Alberto see and be seen by his friends of
yore? Perhaps we'll find out tonight. Can't wait! But somewhere in the
next few days Carlos is bound to reveal his BSC self and probably endanger
either Ana or Alberto, or both.
Novelerea
Thank you for the excellent recap .I cast another vote for the tusseled hair . I am enjoying this show , but I have given up trying to follow the side stories .
The
Beautiful ,gentle Ana with the the innocent glowing eyes will surely end up with newly tusseled Alberto . True love should always win . I wonder what karma has in store for BSC , crazyeyed Chris and deeply dangerous, unstable Carlo.

Just FYI: We have a good discussion going for this great Turkish dizi starring Engin Akyurek. This weekend we are transitioning to a new format, doing five one-hour episodes on weekends (when most of us have more free time). This leaves weekdays free for our current TN/dizis. This weekend we are doing #31-35.(31 up to 33 discussion Saturday, up to 35 on Sunday.)
Please join us!

Thanks, novelera. Great observations and asides.
I also agree that Gabriel is more attractive than Albert.
What a laugh, Cris is the calm one keeping Enrique from panicking.
I thought Tania was supposed to pretend she was asleep like Marina.
Ha, that was no NYC cab. That outdoor scene was filmed in Miami. Street sign read NW Miami Ct. I love how they blur the surroundings so you don’t easily recognize the palm trees in the background. Anyway, I’ve never known traffic to stop a NYC cabbie from zooming off.
I can’t believe Blanca let Esteban the “serial embezzler” (good one, novelera), into her life again even if it’s only as friends.
Why are all the "good" people in this novela so clueless, gullible and selfless? I chuckled when Albert said he was no “tonto”.
I hope I get something good to recap tonight.
Kat, ITA about hoping Val is carrying the Rubalcaba heir. I can't really see how Enrique gets serious prison time for killing Valentin. What killed him was falling down the ravine. Even if the bullet in the tree is found, Valentin was not shot. But this is a TN, and they might decide to go there.
Looks like I struck a chord about Al's hair! Juanita, I also wondered about Cris giving her on the edge brother a bottle of pills. But she knows what a narcissist he is and thinks self-preservation is too engrained. And I also wanted to elaborate more about my complete disbelief that Al boarded a plane with zero ID, but it was late, and I just stuck with my Real ID remark.
Why do I always find a big mistake the next day? When Alberto is talking with Celeste, he "explains CRIS'S fiction about a car accident in Los Angeles", not Barbie's fiction.
Susan, I've missed you. So nice to see a comment from you today.
Dondi, thanks for the insider info on NYC cabbies. I'd call it exasperating that they've shown Blanca innocently showing Esteban her net worth. But I think it's a red herring. It's too late in the show and too many other loose ends for the writers to treat us to a sobbing, dead broke Blanca.
Novelera, it's nice to be missed . I have been watching this show, but life has been hectic all spring and summer, so I had no time to comment . I was up early and got to bed late , so I've had no time or energy to comment , but I tried to read the recaps . Now that my furniture is back in my family room ,perhaps my life will slow a bit ,and I can return to the comfort and fun of the patio as well as my real.patio and my cherry tomato plants and flowers
P.s. our daughter lived in NYC for a few years so I know about those cabs...Susan
