Let me guess: things getting more chaotic again ? 🤔

KPA 47 #1

At Tayyar’s Foundation gathering, Tayyar and Omer continue talking to each other:
Tayyar: Are you actually hearing what you are saying, do you really intend to say these things? (Referring to the threat Omer made that was intended to rattle his cage.)
Omer: Yes, I do.
Tayyar: It is a really pitiful situation.
Omer: Exactly.
Tayyar: You should see a psychologist. You’re just not coping with the situation at the moment, are you?
Omer is smiling, because he wants Tayyar to react. Elif is watching this with concern.
Tayyar: It’s obvious you couldn’t carry the burden of your fiancée dying, could you? You can’t think straight.
Omer: (no longer smiling) We’re talking about you here, not me. So, let’s see, how about we start with the lie that you told me when I asked you where Pinar was.
Tayyar: What lie?
Omer: You told me that you had had a fight and broke up, but Pinar was found nearly dead in the middle of the sea, how inconvenient is that? You see it’s kind of obvious, even if you had had a fight, you would have felt a little worried or at least you would have gone to the police. But, hey what did you do? Nothing at all. Why? Because you were the one who wanted to kill Pinar. (He stares at Tayyar)
(Elif is still watching but looks to be too far away to hear this discussion.)
Tayyar: Wow, Omer, wow, what an imagination you have. Don’t talk about this in public, huh, or you’ll just be laughed at.
Tayyar smirks.
Omer: So, if you really are so innocent, so here’s what I’m suggesting. Why don’t you come downtown and testify and let justice prevail. Yeah? So, who ordered the hit on Taner? Who left Pinar to die in the middle of the sea? Hey, that’s all we want to know. (Omer smiles at Tayyar.)
Tayyar: I’d love to but I’m very busy today, I’m afraid. My mission here is to provide health and education to this country. I don’t have time for your superstitions while thousands of young people are waiting for the help I have to give them, you know. (Omer looks around and sees Elif watching in alarm.)
Elif walks over.
Omer: Yes, of course (to Tayyar).
Elif: Hello Omer, is everything OK?
Tayyar: I’m afraid there are some things bothering Mr. Omer. We’ll talk about it and I’ll be with you (Elif) just in a minute.
Elif: All right. (She walks off.)
Tayyar: Omer, you came into my house and you sat at my table. You got Elif to play along with you, too. You tried to make me and the poor girl’s family believe this lie. Even so, you know, I still didn’t resent you. If you want to go on like this, don’t come to me with these stupid ideas (he condescendingly pretends to flick some lint off Omer’s shoulder), I may not be as understanding next time. (Grins threateningly at Omer.)
Omer: It’s your choice, Tayyar Dundar. Just don’t forget, you’re going to be seeing a lot more of me.
Tayyar: We’ll see. Good day, Mr. Omer. (Tayyar walks off.)
Omer looks around and sees Pinar standing, looking apprehensively toward him. Omer walks away.
Fatma, Hatice’s mom, says they should get something to eat. She motions for Hatice to join her. Hatice watches Omer walking out.
Hatice: Mom, Omer is here.
Fatma: Where? He shouldn’t see us. He’ll ask a thousand questions. They go sit down at another table. Elif and Bahar watch Omer walking off.
Elif: Omer is leaving.
Bahar: His job is done.
Elif: I wonder why he came.

KPA 47 #2
Bahar: Elif, go after him. Don’t lose out on your precious Omer. You might regret it.
Elif: I’m through running after him. If he wants to talk, he can come to me for a change. But, I’m not playing these games anymore.
Bahar: That’s it. You’re thinking right about this. (Elif frowns as she drinks.)
Tayyar making a speech: Welcome. We wouldn’t be able to meet today without all the hard work you’ve done. (Crowd claps enthusiastically, Elif smiling in front.) Our Foundation exists because of you and all that you’ve put into it. One of his henchmen says: We are nothing without you, Mr. Tayyar. This is your success. (Elif smiles widely at this.) Thank you for all you’re saying and what you’ve done for it. Thank you. I forgot what I wanted to say, I was so excited you know [He seems a little unsteady, is this real or an act for sympathy?]. I forgot, I shouldn’t bore you anymore. Come, Massud. (He beckons to a young woman who joins him on stage.)
Massud graduated from the Medical Faculty in the first place today. We’re all so very proud of her achievements. Now I’m going to let her speak. (Tayyar heads off stage, Elif is looking at him with worry.)
Bahar: Oh, my goodness, Mr. Tayyar has never made short speeches like that.
Elif: Whatever he was talking about with Omer, neither of them is happy.
Bahar: I wonder what happened.
Elif walks off.

At a café:
Omer orders two bagels with cheese. “And heat them up and two teas as well,” and sits down with Sami.
Sami: Well, it looks like you’re happy.
Omer: Well, I am, because we’re on the right path, now.
Sami: So, how’d it go then?
Omer: Our friend Tayyar was shocked at first but he gathered himself quickly. Obviously, he denied the accusations. I told him we could go to the police station together so that he could help us in our investigations and he spoke about me showing him respect and how busy he is. He even said I should go see a psychologist. He said it would help get my thoughts straight. He pretends to be concerned, huh?
Waiter brings the tea.
Omer: Thanks for spilling it. [Omer is hard on waiters!] Chief, you know Pinar, the girl he ordered to die on the boat at sea, Tayyar’s girlfriend, I looked into her eyes. That girl Is so afraid: she’s terrified. Tayyar might not be the guy who actually killed Taner, but he’s involved in something real dirty.
Sami: OK, stop. You’ve given him a fright and that’s good. Let’s see what his response is in all of this. If Elif’s operation is cancelled, then, well there’s only one real explanation. Tayyar is our guy and if that is true, well, then we’ve done really good.
Omer nods and looks pensive as he drinks his tea.

Back at the Foundation gathering:
Tayar is getting his vitals checked by one of his doctors. Tayyar: Good, Elif should be here any minute. (This appears to be a set-up to get Elif to worry.) The doctor says: We should stop meeting like this. I don’t like these cops.”
Tayyar: You’re right about that.
Elif enters. “Are you OK, Uncle Tayyar? I was worried to see you here.
The doctor tells him to get well soon, and Tayyar thanks him.
Tayyar: I’m fine, thanks Elif.
She sits down with him.
Tayyar: I just had some blood pressure problems, that’s all.
Elif: You didn’t look so good after talking to Omer. What happened, Uncle?
Tayyar: Don’t get me caught between you two, please.
Elif: What does that mean?
Tayyar: Always blaming me for the bad things that have happened.
Elif: Like what, Uncle Tayyar?
Tayyar: Like me getting Taner killed. I’m not a killer at all.

KPA 47 #3
Tayyar gets up and leaves, going back to the gala, joining Pinar and a donor couple.
Tayyar: I don’t feel so good, the blood pressure. Must be the weather. You go and enjoy yourselves.
The wife says they are expecting Tayyar and his wife’s presence that evening.
Tayyar: We hope to be there. (Takes Pinar and leads her away.)
Bahar: Elif, what’s going on?
Elif: Bahar, I’m leaving. (She calls Omer and asks him where he is.)
Bahar chews her lip, not very happy.

More of Pelin and Arda:
Arda: I love you.
Pelin smacks Arda hard and leaves.
Arda looks shocked.
Arda runs after her, shouting, “Pelin! Listen to me for a minute.”
Pelin: Don’t way anything OK, not a word. I can’t believe this.
Arda: Listen, just listen, look at me, am I a pervert? I’m in love with you, I’m in love with you, Pelin. Please, Please
Pelin starts her car and drives off leaving Arda shouting: Pelin, Pelin, please come back! Pelin, I love you so much!

At Elvan’s house:
Melike (striding to the patio carrying a tray with a determined look on her face): Here, There’s no sausage, I made it with cheese, (in a very grumpy voice).
The kids are arguing about the food that she has presented.
Elvan: Is Husseyn up?
Melike: He is. I had my morning reprimand, too. I look after the kids, I feed them, I clothe them, I please everyone. I get a reprimand after all of that. (Everyone chews in silence. Melike slaps Hasan’s hand and tells him to eat slowly.)
[I have said this before, but both kids show some mental problems, Hasan with eating and Demet with light fingers. These might be due to the problems in their parents’ relationship.]
Hasan: What can I do, it’s so tasty.
Melike: I can’t understand why this child is like this.
Husseyn joins them: Melike, where’s my watch?
Melike: In the room, in front of the mirror.
Husseyn: I can’t see it then, go fetch it for me, what the hell?
Melike gives him a glare and goes to get the watch.
Husseyn: Chasing criminals in the streets, chasing belongings in the house, the things I have to put up with! Don’t hide my belongings!
Elvan: Why don’t you sit and eat?
Husseyn: I’m late, that’s why. Where’s my watch? Is it too much to ask that one of you could do me a favor and wake me up on time?
Melike: You were late home from your shift last night. I couldn’t bear to wake you up. Am I a bad person? Haven’t I been a policeman’s wife all these years? Don’t I know you? You’re on a break the day after your shift.
Husseyn: She knows, oh yes she does. She knows it all. Well done. But my wife who feeds all these mouths, she doesn’t know that I have to do an evening shift on my day off. She doesn’t know that.
Elvan: OK, so there’s been a misunderstanding. Don’t break each other’s hearts, come on, sit down and eat.
Husseyn stomps off.
Elvan, Melike and kids look very worried.
Melike to her kids: What are you looking at, eat!

KPA 47 #4
In Husseyn’s car:
Husseyn gets a call as he reaches the road: I told you not to call me on this number, haven’t I?
Tayyar: I did try it, but your private phone was off.
Husseyn: The battery’s flat.
Tayyar: You didn’t pay your debt and now it’s doubled, it’s time to pay your debts. Come to the usual spot now. We’ll talk there and be sure you have that phone of yours charged. (Pinar is with Tayyar in the van, listening.) Do it now.
Husseyn: I have to go to work. I’ll come in the evening.
Tayyar. You need to come now. It’s important.
Husseyn: Don’t push your luck. I know we are family but know your place. I said I’ll come in the evening, so I’ll be there in the evening. Is that all right with you Tayyar? Period.
Husseyn: I don’t need this right now. He gets in his car.
[I continue to be impressed with Husseyn’s power. He is probably the only character in his circle able to stand up to Tayyar. Most jump to do his bidding immediately. Metin sometimes can convince Tayyar to make a minor adjustment, but Husseyn has impressive power. I guess this is because Tayyar really needs him and Husseyn knows it.]

Back at the café:
Omer is still drinking tea and Sami is gone. Elif now walks up.
Elif: What’s going on, Omer?
Omer: I guess this means you talked to your uncle.
Elif: His blood pressure went off the charts because of you. He had to leave. You need to start using your head for a change, please.
Omer: Take a breath first.
Elif: I can’t because you’re off limits now.
Omer: Elif, please sit down. (She sits.) I know you’re in pain and all of this is difficult and it’s hard to accept the person who killed your father is somebody in your family
Elif: Just stop right there. Don’t even say another word, officer.
Omer: Fine, Elif. Anything you desire.
Elif: Uncle Tayyar didn’t leave us alone for one day after my dad died. He cried with us when my mother passed away. He was like a father to us. Do you understand that? If it weren’t for him, we’d be bankrupt and probably homeless as well. Nilufer would have run away with Metin. Asli probably would have probably tried to, I don’t even want to say what she would have tried to do. And you dare to accuse him of being Taner’s killer. After everything he has done for us. There is no way your suspicions could be true, Omer. I refuse to believe this.
Long, serious looks between these two.

At Tayyar’s house:
Nilufer in bed, looking sad. Knock on door.
Nilufer: Mert, leave me alone. I’ve just woken up.
Servant: Miss Nilufer, Mr. Mert left, I brought you your coffee.
She gets the tray and finds a note under the muffin from Fatih, asking her to call him. There’s a phone under another dish. She sits and cries and doesn’t call him.
In an adjacent building with windows overlooking Tayyar’s place, Fatih is waiting for a call from Nilufer. He can see into her room and sees that she is not calling him as he requested. He gets tired of waiting and throws his phone aside.

Back to the café with Elif and Omer:
Elif: So, you’re saying he had Taner killed because he was jealous. This isn’t a mountain village! [I think this implies that people in remote locations kill their rivals with ease.]
Omer: I came to this conclusion following up on leads.
Elif: So, you were following the wrong leads officer. Even you can be wrong sometimes.
Omer: No, not about this, OK?
Elif: I’m completely sure of him.
Omer: No one ever knows who will do what and who will react in what way. Life has taught me that.
Elif: Why are you so certain. Can you tell me that? Why is it so easy for you to label people?
Omer: You do realize that you keep labeling me, too.

Babachita

KPA 47 #5
Elif: Being strong and being a killer are two very different things.
Omer: Yeah, sure, I mean it’s possible I’m cynical, I mean that’s what the profession requires. I’m not the most understanding of men, I’ll admit it. I look at everyone with a suspicious eye, but you should put that emotional tie you have with Tayyar Dundar aside. Think about what I have said. It won’t cost you anything.
Elif: There’s nothing to think about.
More staring.
Omer: Elif, You and I, we’ve been walking this road together now and on this journey of ours, we’ve been deceived many times, haven’t we? We both knew that Taner wasn’t the killer, didn’t we?
Elif: Sure, we did, but,
Omer: (Interrupts) Just as you were certain that Taner didn’t kill Sibel or your father, I‘m just as certain that Tayyar got someone to kill Taner. That man is not who you think he is.
Elif: I have known my uncle since I was a kid.
Omer: OK, Elif. That’s true, too. I know what I’m saying sounds unbelievable, but if you trust me and know that I think only about what’s good for you, then think about what I said. Take Nilufer out of the house. Get Asli out of the hospital. Trust me, please.
More staring. Then Omer’s phone rings.
He is summoned to meet with Commissioner Ali immediately.
Omer replies he’ll be there in half an hour.
Elif: Where are you going? We aren’t finished yet!
Omer: Please, just think about what I said.
Omer pays the bill and leaves. Elif holds her head and sighs.

At the Police Station:
Pelin is noisily putting papers In folders, obviously very unhappy and hitting the desk hard with her fists.
Husseyn comes out of his office: Pelin, has Arda finished with the Aiden Oscan file?
Pelin: It should be on his desk.
Husseyn: What are you doing?
Pelin: I’m just tidying this desk here, OK?
Husseyn: I hope you will. I’ve been going past this untidy desk since this morning. What’s up with you? Huh? (Pelin glowers at him.) Tell me.
Pelin: Nothing, Chief.
He leaves in frustration, heading back to his office.
Arda arrives. Pelin resumes banging on the folders.
Arda: Good morning, Sir (to Husseyn).
Husseyn: Good morning. Good evening, shall we say. Where were you? Are you going to answer? (Husseyn is getting visibly annoyed at this point.)
Arda: At home, Sir.
Husseyn: Leave this desk. Stop there right now (to Pelin).
Arda: Husseyn is right, leave the mess, OK.
Pelin glares at Arda. Husseyn comes back out.
Husseyn: What’s up with you both, huh? You were fine yesterday. Prepare these files. I’m going to the office. Don’t get Chief Ali mad. (He goes to office and slams his door shut.)
Arda sits and Pelin continue to assemble folders. In walks Omer.
Omer: He just called me to his office. I’ll just go find out what’s wrong then.
Arda and Pelin answer: The Denizer case.
Pelin continues: The Denizer case probably because we stalled them, too. I’ll come, too.
Omer: No, his issue is with me.
Arda: What’s going on, then? (Omer leaves without answering). Hey, don’t just leave, talk to us!
Pelin continues to slam the folders.

Chief Ali’s office:
Chief is drinking tea.
Omer enters: You called me in.

Ali: Come in, Commissioner, have a seat. Where were you this morning?
Omer: I was in a meeting at the Tayyar Dundar Foundation.
Ali: Why?
Omer: No reason, really, just to talk with them.
Ali: About what, exactly?
Omer: Taner Akcali’s death.
Ali: That case is closed, commissioner. A report will be written and that’s it. There’s nothing more to say about it. It’s done.
Omer: It wasn’t suicide. Taner was murdered.
Ali: Let’s say that he was. What’s Tayyar Dundar got to do with it? Couldn’t you find anyone else to blame, Commissioner Omer?
Omer: Tayyar’s lover and Taner. We found out they had an affair. After Taner was arrested, Pinar disappeared. And do you know where she was found? She was found awaiting death in a boat in the middle of the sea.
Ali: And so? Do you have any proof? Do you have evidence to investigate this?
Omer: Sometimes evidence is just not required.
Ali: You’re talking gibberish again, Omer. You have no evidence and no permission to investigate it, but somehow you think that you can do exactly as you please. Tayyar got so angry, that he made his lawyer call me about it. Listen here, do you realize how many children he helps every year? Every year he’s chosen as the man with the biggest heart in Turkiye.
Omer: In order to cover up what he’s really doing.
Ali: To cover up what? What are you talking about? Is every rich man in the country a criminal? Stop talking like a communist. (Ali is really fuming here.). Omer, don’t make me angry. I am your superior. Remember that you’re tying a knot around your neck. They’ll take your gun away and it’ll be a great pity.
Omer: You know you’re right, Chief. You’re absolutely right. You know, I think from now on, I ‘ll come here with solid evidence and a witness and I think you’ll be the first to congratulate me. I’m putting Tayyar Dundar in jail. Then you know what? And then I think we‘ll see just how much you’re devoted to your work here and justice. Don’t worry. We know you’re not the kind of cop that accepts bribes from these kinds of filthy rich people. It’s obvious. You’re a good cop, Chief, you’re a paragon of virtue.
(Long stares between Omer and Ali here.)
Omer: So, if there isn’t anything else, I’d like to leave.
Ali: (Swallowing): Fine. (Omer leaves and walks into the hall with a serious expression on his face. Talk about poking the bear!!!)

Back in the main office:
Arda and Pelin are still staring daggers at one another. Arda walks over to her desk, about to speak, when Omer walks in.
Arda: That took longer than I expected. Are you in trouble?
Pelin: Why did he call you?
Omer: Why don’t you take a seat first and then we’ll have a conversation.
Husseyn walks out of his office, asking Omer: Why is Ali calling me? Huh? What did you do? Omer? I told you.
Omer makes a face but doesn’t answer.
Arda: Don’t you worry, Husseyn will fix it, OK?
Omer: Personally, I don’t think there’s anything to fix. He just got a dose of truth.
Arda goes back to his desk.

In Ali’s office:
Ali is pacing. Knock on door, it’s Husseyn.
Husseyn: You called for me, what happened?
Ali: That’s your brother, Husseyn, YOUR brother. He just won’t stop digging. He’s going after Tayyar, he’s going to mess up everything. Then you’ll see what will happen.

Babachita

KPA 47 #7
Husseyn looks worried and thoughtful.
Ali: Get hold of him. I want to know everything he’s going to and everything he’s doing, Husseyn.
Husseyn nods.

Back to the main office, Omer, Arda, and Pelin are talking.
Arda: We were all investigating, why are you messing this up, man?
Omer: There was no other way. It had to be done.
Husseyn comes out of Ali’s office: Come on, we’re leaving.
Omer gets up and says: Hey, if it’s because of what I said,
Husseyn interrupts him: Come.
They all three put on their guns and prepare to leave with Husseyn. Arda and Pelin are still staring daggers at one another.

At hospital, Elif is speaking with Asli’s doctor:
Doctor: Miss Asli is better now. We’re also decreasing her medication. That means she’ll get no more tranquilizers.
Elif: That’s great news.
Doctor. Yeah. Last night and this morning she went for walks with her nurse. She even had conversations with the children. I’d say she’s much improved.
Elif: That’s so good to hear. Thank you Doctor! Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.
Doctor: It’s no problem. We are incredibly pleased with the condition she’s in. She seems to be recovering well.
Elif: Doctor, does she know that she lost her child?
Doctor: Miss Elif, how do you know that? That information is classified.
Elif: Was I not supposed to? Who told you to keep it secret? (Doctor says nothing). Doctor, you need to tell me who told you to keep that a secret.
Doctor: Your mother, Miss Zerrin, did.
Elif looks stunned. [Hmmm. Maybe Elif is going to figure out that Zerrin and Tayyar had the pregnancy terminated.]

At a Kebab place:
Husseyn orders pizza, one without spice.
Husseyn goes out to the table with the other Musketeers.
Omer: If all I’m going to get is a lecture, I’ll take my leave, thank you very much.
Husseyn: Sit down for a minute. What’s up?
Arda and Pelin have to sit beside one another and both look unhappy.
Husseyn to Omer: You know your problem is that you don’t think before you act. You were the same as a kid. You’d always say that you knew the math and yet you would fail. There’s no need to be so rash. Calm down. That’s what I’m asking. Try and be patient. That’s what I’m asking.
Arda: Yes, if only we had just listened.
Pelin: Can you please start explaining? I feel nauseous from the smell of this place. Seriously.
Husseyn: What’s wrong with this place? It smells like a kebab.
Omer: Can you just talk already. We’re waiting here.
Husseyn: Look, I have given some thought to what you said about Tayyar. You’re right, I mean you’re right about what you said before. Tayyar may be guilty, and from now on, you have my support. OK? Whatever’s going to happen, we’re going to do it together because Tayyar is a dangerous man, so we got to work together on this. All right? We got a deal? Look at me all listen to what I’m saying. Can I count on you? Can I count on you all, huh?
Omer: (Smiling): Wait, are you serious?
Husseyn: Of course I’m serious. I’ll say it again. You’re not going to do anything without me, ok? You’ve got to understand that you can’t do that.
Omer: Laughing: OK, that’s great.
Husseyn: You guys are witnesses. With the least problem I’ll crush this jackal. I’ll smash his head in. (Omer is laughing.)

Omer: What did you order?
Husseyn: Pizzas, non-spicy for you.
They are all smiling, especially the two brothers.
Husseyn: Abdul, are you short on pepper? This isn’t spicy. Ali is very interested. He’s trying to find out about everything that we are doing.
Arda: Pelin, please pass the salt.
Pelin ignores Arda. Husseyn picks up the salt and gives it to Arda.
Arda: Thanks.
Omer: OK, look, now that I’ve taken the risk, I don’t want you to pay for it if I’m wrong.
Husseyn: We’ll take it together then.
Omer: It’s not as simple as that. Tayyar has connections and a good coverup. Everybody stands to attention when his name if mentioned. Well, not out of fear, but out of love and respect. However he’s done it, he’s done it well.
Husseyn: I’m not afraid. Just stay calm, is that OK?
Arda: Exactly.
Husseyn: Tell me, what’s the plan?
Arda: I’ve got a plan. I’ll tail this Tayyar Dundar and follow him everywhere he goes all day and then I’ll report back to you with all the Intel, OK?
Husseyn: Let me do the tailing. I’m better than you at that. Don’t be offended. We each have our skills and that’s mine.
Arda: I’m not offended. I offered so that you wouldn’t get too exhausted.
Husseyn: I’m not going to get tired. I may have gray hair, but I’m not old yet. And as for you, what’s your skill?
Pelin: OK, Chief, he’s from a limited income family and his brother died. His parents and wife died, and now his family consists of only a son. He studied business management in Holland but returned before he graduated. The man is passionate about medicine, and as you know owns several hospitals. Up to this point, all is fine, but he has a big problem. His father Yousef was one of the most notorious gang leaders in Adana, so he grew up around crime. It was normal, a way of life. He took over when his dad died and came to Istanbul in the 80’s and after that he had no contact with Adana again

At Tayyar’s hospital office
Tayyar is pacing back and forth. Metin walks in. Tayyar asks where he ended up last night.
Metin: I drank a little too much but I’m fine.
Tayyar: Look at you! What are you saying? You didn’t go to the house which I rented for you.
Metin: I did, I did, but I didn’t like it. It wasn’t like a home. You don’t know my style, Uncle.
Tayyar: What do you mean your style. What damn style. Am I going to have to follow you with everything else that’s on my mind? What are you looking at? Huh? Are you hiding something from me? What’s your problem? What’s your plan. Tell me, so I know, so I know whatever needs to be done.
Metin: Nothing Uncle. I have no problem. You think I have the time to go home? I’m staying in a gallery. You can’t be this mad just because of me not going home. Something else is up.
Tayyar: I am I’m very angry Even though I was tired, I was the son of a very great hunter. I became respected Mr. Tayyar in Istanbul. All my work has gone smoothly until now. My work has never been under any kind of scrutiny. I’ve always known how to put every stone in the right place. (Metin nods in agreement.). But, for the first time, I’m being stabbed in the back and that knife is you, Metin. You’re that knife. Your lack of responsibility, your internal state, your carelessness, do you know why I don’t kill you? Why?
Metin: I don’t know. Why don’t you tell me?

FLASHBACK: Tayyar and Metin’s mother, Nevin.
Tayyar: Be quiet. I’m not his father.
Nevin pleads: Tayyar, take him under your wings.
Tayyar: I told you not to tell anyone didn’t I?
Nevin: You’d like him if you knew him. He’s a good kid.
I told you, didn’t I?

Nevin says: Tayyar, please don’t! Come on, he’s family.
Tayyar opens a knife.
Young Fatih is running to the house. A neighbor woman asks him, “Did you run out of school?”
Fatih: No, It’s holidays.
Tayyar to Nevin: If you can’t stop your tongue, I will.
Fatih arrives just in time to see (through the window) Tayyar cut out her tongue. He is horrified and scared to death.

Back in current time in Tayyar’s office:
Tayyar: You know what I hate? My biggest hate in life is weakness. Fatih, you are my Achilles heel, but unfortunately we’re related to each other. The fact troubles me from time to time. I can’t change that, but I can accept it is not right.
Metin (Fatih): Whatever you say, uncle.
Tayyar: Yeah, of course I am, you’re a liability to me, you lean on me more and more very day. Trusting the bond between us, but there’s an end to everything. You might be from my bloodline, but you aren’t from my blood. You’re the son of my brother, and that’s it.
Metin: (Gives a little smile), Well, an uncle is half a father. I may not be Mert, but I am your nephew. That much I’m sure of.
Tayyar: I’ll get you killed, no, I’ll get you worse than killed. One morning you’re going to wake up somewhere you’ve never been before. Or you’ll find yourself in Adana, you alive and your mom dead.
Metin reacts to this.
Knock on the door: One of his henchmen announces that Elif is there. Tayyar says he’ll be there in one minute.
Tayyar: (Pokes his finger in Metin’s chest) Listen, Fatih, you’re not allowed to come in here unless I give you permission to do so. You are not to mention my name to anyone. Forget that you know me or have ever even met me, unless, of course, I say otherwise. You understand?
Metin nods yes.

[Interesting that Tayyar calls him Fatih here, where he usually uses Metin. I find these names changes confusing, but Fatih seems to be his real name because his mother uses it and so does Nilufer. Metin might be the name Tayyar uses when he refers to Fatih as his nephew. It also might be to keep his real identity a secret. The couriers use the name Metin, so it appears to be his professional name, too.]

Elif and Omer, apparently before Metin meets with Tayyar:
Closeup of Elif’s bag which now has the bugging device in it. Metin is listening to the whole conversation.
Elif: Omer, I’m very tired and I want this operation to be over without anybody getting hurt. I want this all over.
Omer: I didn’t tell anyone. Don’t worry. They won’t know anything if we don’t make mistakes. It’s a deal? Just don’t panic.
[Metin now has inside information, thanks to the electronic bug in Elif’s bag.]

Back to Tayyar’s office, Tayyar and Metin’s conversation continues:
Metin: Uh, huh, of course, since you mentioned Elif, are you delaying the Rome plan or cancelling it? I won’t call you until I hear from you and I’ll forget I know you, but I’m the one who organized this Rome plan. You said the men are already pressuring us. Don’t let things get complicated. You have to let me solve this problem.
Tayyar: We’re making the men wait for their money. It’s been ten days already. We lost out due to that stupid courier girl of yours. He will think that we are conning him and now it’s not possible with Elif. There are papers she needs to sign. You’ve given Omer the golden ticket and now he’s following me.
Metin: You created me, uncle. Everything I know I’ve learned from you. Your blood is in my veins. Nobody has caught us yet. Not even that cop Omer, and I’m telling you now that no one is going to catch us. I started this and I will finish it.
Tayyar: OK. Prepare everything and just wait. I’ll think about it, OK?
Tayyar leaves. Metin looks after him with pure hatred.

Babachita, I typed up a comment earlier and now I don’t see it posted. I checked the spam folder and I don’t see it there either, not sure what happened to it. I will have to retype later tonight when I get home.

Thanks for your recap! Excellent as always!

KPA

Thank you Babachita! Excellent recap as always!

I think Fatih and Tayyar are one of the most fascinating relationships in this show. Fatih hates him, but he wants to be accepted too in some ways. But yeah, I think he wants to take him down too at this point! How can he do it without taking himself out with him?

Elif and Omer one step forward, two steps back...

Pelin and Arda's post kiss argument makes as much sense as the kiss itself so there's clearly some strong feelings there - but they are acting like children not grown adults who have been friends and coworkers for years. They should be able to just have a conversation.

KPA

Thanks for another excellent recap that covers all the details, Babachita.

The cat and mouse games between Omer and Tayyar/Fatih are ramping up.

Tayyar is a monster.

ITA, Darcy, Pelo and Arda are sort of childish. He's very clumsy when it comes to romance and she's scared to take their relationship to a whole new level.

The Nilufer/Fatih relationship is the one that gives me the most trouble. Always thought it creepy that she fell for her kidnapper so quickly. Yes, I know she was not taken seriously by her family, but...

Saturday recap coming soon.

KPA #48 part 1

Elif visits Asli in the hospital. Asli says, I’m not doing well but I will be. I have no other choice. She places her hand on her stomach. Elif gives her support. We are with you, we will all heal our wounds together. You’re not on your own. I’ve come to take you home. Asli is thrilled.

Tayyar is at the door and hears this. He enters and tells Elif he will wait for her in his office. Tayyar tells Elif she has to follow procedure. She can’t just take Asli home. They need the board’s permission. Elif is grateful to Tayyar, but she thinks it’s time for her family to be together. She will take full responsibility. Tayyar replies, this is because Omer came and talked some nonsense, isn’t it? Elif answers by not answering.

Tayyar plays up his disappointment. I get it… how painful, we used to be so close. Your father and I were very good friends. I never broke the heart of anyone in your family, if I did, it was unintentional. But you destroy me if you don’t have faith in me. You don’t believe the man you grew up with, but you belie a man you just met… Omer, who hurt you so much. I’m very hurt.

Elif explains, Tayyar Amca, I’m going through the hardest days of my life. I would be ungrateful if I ignored your help. He asks, then why this attitude? It’s not an attitude, she replies, I’m just confused. What confuses you, he asks. You told me about some stolen videos, she answers, I saw some of that footage. Tayyar is shocked. What are you saying? How did this happen? Who showed you? She responds, it’s not important who showed me, what matters is what’s in it. I know what really happened. I learned this in a bad way. I know mom aborted Asli’s baby. And then Asli pushed her… and that’s how she died. I saw everything.

Tayyar is stunned. Elif continues, there are many things I don’t understand. All I know is you’re the only one who can get her out of here. Isn’t it the truth? No one would hide this without your consent. Elif pauses. You did it…didn’t you. No answer from Tayyar. I think he short circuited.

Omer and the homicide group are out at lunch. Omer tells them he needs to talk to Taner’s cellmate. Arda says he spoke with the warden. He suggests planting someone and make him talk. Pelin says she’ll check the neighborhood and find out about the guy. Arda offers to go with her. She coolly answers, I’ll go by myself.

Omer says let’s find out why Taner was beat up. Pelo notes it would have been easier if Pinar talked. Omer says, if she could, she would have. Pelo thinks Pinar knows who the owner of the diamonds is. Didn’t Taner offer you the diamond owner in exchange for his freedom? Huseyin asks Pelo, are these two connected? Are we going back to Ahmet and Sibel? Omer says there’s no connection yet but maybe soon. Huseyin worries.

Tayyar confesses, my only intention was to protect Asli. She was devastated. She tried to kill herself. What I did then was very much in her interest. Elif says, my dad didn’t tell us anything when he was bankrupt, up to his neck involved in crimes. Maybe he thought it would pass. Maybe he did it for our benefit. I didn’t tell anyone when Nilufer was kidnapped. I thought it best to solve everything by myself. I did it for everyone else’s sake and I’ve made many mistakes. I paid the price and I’m still paying for it. But I’ve stopped making mistakes and you need to stop Tayyar Amca, especially when it involves me and my family. Please don’t hide anything from us.

KPA #48 part 2

Tayyar apologizes. Sometimes people make mistakes to protect their loved ones. Many of us do. Elif hugs the bastard. I’m grateful, she says, but I am taking Asli now. I’ll come for Nilufer tomorrow. Tayyar says he will send a nurse to take care of Asli. No need, Elif replies, I’ll take care of her now. He tells Elif to keep in touch with Asli’s doctor. We need to tell her the truth soon. Elif leaves and Tayyar is pissed!

It’s a sad homecoming for Asli. Elif wants to give Asli her room. Asli wants to stay in her mother’s room. I miss her very much. I’ll feel like she’s still with me. The sisters enter Zerrin’s room. Everything is as she left it. Asli picks up her parents’ wedding photo. Mom was so beautiful. (FYI Nebahat Çehre, who played Zerrin, was Miss Turkey 1960) Elif says, do you realize how much you resemble mom? I wish I did, Asli replies, I wish I could love everyone the way she did. You are like her, Elif, so loving and caring.

Asli says she’s tired. Elif replies, of course, with all that’s happened and the meds you take. Do you know why I’m tired, Asli asks. She takes Elif’s hand and places it on her stomach—I’m pregnant. Elif shocked because of what she knows but it seems an appropriate surprise reaction. Asli continues, life took everything from me and gave me this child. I don’t want to live without my baby. There would be nothing else to live for. Don’t say that, Elif replies. Asli is determined, I’ll get through this for my baby.

Bahar comes to the Denizer house. Elif tells her it’s all so complicated. Before she can explain to Bahar, her phone rings. It’s Pelin and she’s upset. I really need to talk to someone. Can we talk? Can we meet somewhere? Elif is sorry, it’s not a good time. Asli just got home from the hospital. Pelin says it’s okay. Elif asks, are you crying? Pelo says it’s nothing, don’t worry. Elif says she’ll meet. Pelo says there’s a fish restaurant in Kalamış. Elif will come. She tells Bahar she couldn’t say no to Pelo. Bahar says she’ll stay with Asli and Huyla is there, too.

Omer is at an outdoor restaurant. He gets a call from Huseyin that Tayyar has left the hospital. Omer tells him he’ll take the next shift. Arda meets Omer. Omer asks, what’s up with you? You’ve been upset since this morning. Arda replies, I seriously messed up. I messed up. (Actually, I think he said he f’ed up, they bleeped it out in Turkish.) Omer says get to the point. I kissed Pelo, Arda blurts, and she slapped me. Is that straight enough for you?

Omer is amused. He has to control himself. Why are you laughing, Arda says, it’s shameful! Omer gets a hold of himself and replies, don’t you know you can’t declare your love to Pelo that way? You are lucky she only slapped you and didn’t shoot you! Have some sympathy, Arda pleads, I lost my best friend and my love at the same time. What about me? Omer passes him a glass of raki and they drink.

Fatih leaves a message for Nilu. I’m an ox. Tell me you will hurt me for every strand of your hair I’ve hurt. I’ll never forgive myself. Tell me you haven’t forgotten me.

Omer tells Arda, if I could, I’d help myself. I’m the last guy to ask for advice. Don’t you see my situation? Arda replies, the girl you love is in front of you and you are on her mind. Just when everything has run its course, you go back to your old ways. How can you? We tell you the girl is suffering but we can’t get through your stubbornness. Open your eyes. No one is that patient. No one would wait that long for you. If she was a stone, she would crack.

KPA #48 part 3

Oha! Elif is walking towards the restaurant. Omer points—did you call her? Who? Arda turns. Elif spots them. She turns and walks out. Arda exclaims, she’s leaving! Omer gets up. He asks Arda did you tell her we were eating here? It doesn’t matter, Arda quickly replies, go stop her!

Pelin pulls up in a taxi as Elif exits. I’m sorry, I’m late. Traffic. Elif asks, what’s going on? I thought we would talk alone? Pelo says yes. What happened? Arda and Omer are inside. Omer comes out and gently scolds Pelo, if you want to talk privately, don’t arrange a place where you hang out with your friends. Pelo says they will go elsewhere. Omer stops them. Now that you’re here, we will go inside and handle this like adults. Pelo says she’s not in the mood.

Elif has no idea what’s going on. Omer asks Pelo, you were going to tell me eventually, right? Omer explains to Elif, Arda’s been in love with Pelo for a while. Today was the day that he finally kissed her. And she gave him the Ottoman slap. [lol.]

Huseyin follows Tayyar to a secluded place. He tells Tayyar this is the last time he does a favor for him. He warns, Omer and his friends are on to you. My job is to follow you. I guess I’m lucky, Tayyar replies, old friends can’t be enemies. Huseyin replies, don’t take chances. You have the 3 best Istanbul police officers on your trail. Tayyar says make that 4, it includes you, so there will be no problem. Huseyin says there’s a limit to what he can do.

The most awkward dinner ever. What the heck is Pelin doing scraping the tablecloth with her fork? Omer breaks the ice. Maybe we should order some appetizers, some drinks? Pelo answers, I’m not hungry. I’m just sitting here because you asked. I’m leaving in a few minutes.

Arda speaks up, you’ve been ignoring me all day. You slapped me and vented your anger. What else do you want from me? Pelo snaps back, I found out all our years of friendship were a lie. Arda can’t believe this. I didn’t stab you in the back, scam you, or hurt your family! I fell in love with you. Is that a crime? Yes, Pelo replies, it is if you missed the target. You pay the price. Elif and Omer are uncomfortably listening.

Arda says he has no regrets about what he did. But if you are so angry there must be more to it. Pelo brings up Arda’s soon to be ex, Cigdem. What does it have to do with my ex, Arda asks. Pelo explains, first, the case is still ongoing. She is still your wife. Second, when she came to me, I said we are friends, there is nothing between us. I cried for days. He replies, so what Cigdem feels is more important than what I feel? Look at this… the woman I love values my ex’s feelings more than mine.

Pelo apologizes to Elif and leaves the table. Arda says, do you see this. What can I do? Arda gets up to go. He apologizes to Elif and leaves. That leaves Elif and Omer alone.

Omer points at the two empty seats at the table and notes, this doesn’t look very good from the outside. A familiar story, no? He takes a drink and readies himself. He looks away from Elif and beckons with his hand—hadi, hadi, bekliyorum… (come on, come on, I’m waiting…) Convert Pelin’s passes into goals. It’s your turn. Send it to the 90th minute. I know you like to fight, too. I don’t like bickering, Elif replies. Allah, Allah, have I ever dealt with a different Elif, Omer snarks. Signorina, this doesn’t fit you. Scream, shout, so I know who I’m dancing with.

KPA #48 part 4

Elif leans in. Komiser, you called this a similar situation. We don’t look like Pelin and Arda at all. Because we have nothing to talk about. Good night. She leaves. She looks back at Omer. He downs another raki. Elif gets in a cab.

Elif comes to see Nilufer. She has good news. Asli is home. Let’s go see her. Nilu doesn’t want to go. It’s safer for me here, she says. Elif asks, something happened? Nilu starts to cry. Nothing happened. I’m not like the old Nilufer, I can never go back. Elif assures her, whatever you’ve done, you’re still my little sister. Come on, let’s go home. Nilu says she will come later. Elif gives her a ring. Their mother’s ring.

Omer goes to the prison to see Taner’s cellmate, Halil. He asks, why were you put in Taner's cell? How should I know, Halil replies. The crooked guard is listening in. Omer asks, what did you do before you were put in jail. Anything and everything, Halil says. Who looks after your family now, Omer asks. The kids are with my wife, they are living off our savings.

Let’s talk about Taner, Omer says, what was he like the day he committed suicide? It was like he was planning something, Halil replies. Omer holds up a picture of Tayyar—do you know who this is? Halil claims he doesn’t recognize him. Omer says, he’s the richest guy in the country. He’s in the papers every day. Do you expect me to believe this? Halil says he doesn’t read the papers. One last question: did Taner ever mention Tayyar Dundar? No, he didn’t. Halil is ready to leave. Omer tells him to sit.

Mert asks Tayyar what’s up with Pinar? She never leaves her room. Tayyar answers, the same goes for Nilufer. They are both women. That’s how they are. Mert accepts that answer. He gets a call and leaves the table.

Elif tells Tayyar that Nilufer wanted to stay a little longer. She’s right, Tayyar replies, there’s no one to confuse her here. She doesn’t forget that I am you dear Tayyar Amca. I don’t forget either, Elif answers, if I did, I wouldn’t let Nilufer stay.

Omer can’t believe that Halil didn’t hear anything that night. Halil claims he heard nothing. He would have stopped him if I did. Omer’s done some research. You’re in prison because you punched someone. Then you cause an incident and get transferred from the other prison to this one. What a coincidence you get transferred to Taner’s cell. And that day, he hangs himself.

Halil insists he knows nothing. Omer is certain Halil killed Taner or helped someone. I’m giving you a chance to tell me who you are working for. Otherwise, you could spend a lot of time here. Halil repeats he knows nothing. Omer continues, confess and you’ll get off easy. If I can prove you killed Taner, and I will, you’re here for years. Halil sticks to his story and calls for the crooked guard.

Elvan calls Elif. Melike eavesdrops. I haven’t seen you for a while, Elvan says, I wonder if there’s anything you need. Actually, I called for something. Omer’s birthday was 5 days ago. We couldn’t celebrate then. I’m thinking if you can come to dinner, we can cut the cake and celebrate together. Elif tells her that her sister just came home so she wants to stay home with her. Elvan says Asli can come too. Elvan presses her, Omer would be very happy if you came. Elif asks, did he really say that? Elvan fibs, yes, he did. Elif says she will ask her sister.

KPA #48 part 5

Melike smiles at Elvan—what kind of demon are you? We never celebrate Omer’s birthday. This time we will celebrate, Elvan replies. Ah, you’re still trying to reconcile them, Melike says, you have my full support. Don’t spoil it, Elvan asks, don’t spoil it, I had to lie at this age. Omer will be very angry if he hears. Don’t worry, mom, Melike answers, the sin will be on me. Let them be happy.

Arda meets Omer outside the prison. He couldn’t get the guy to talk. He needs to find his weak spot. That man is hiding something, Omer says. Arda wonders if one of the guards were involved. Omer agrees. He says they should look at the guard’s records. Now let’s go look into Halil’s past. Omer changes the subject. Hey Romeo, how are you this morning? Does your cheek still hurt? I feel like a loser, Arda replies.

Nilufer holds her mom’s ring and cries. Fatih calls and she rips into him. Did you get what you wanted? I was left all alone. My right, my wrong, my love, my hate, everything is mixed up. I’m lonely. No mother, no father, are you happy now? You have me Nilufer, Fatih replies, I am your home and your family. She answers, is that why I’m alone, crying in the guest room? She hangs up.

Elif is reading in her room. Asli enters. What’s that book? Mevlana ve Shams, Elif says, I’m using it for a gift. Hulya comes in with a picture frame. Asli asks, what will you do with this? I’ll pick a poem from this and put it in the frame, Elif replies. Why would you do this. Asli asks.

Then the gift would have no value, Elif answers, do you remember all those gifts dad gave us in those beautiful boxes he used to make? All those gifts are gone but not those handmade boxes. Those have true value. Asli figures, is Omer’s the birthday boy? Elif nods. Asli says, okay, I’ll help you. The sisters enjoy working together.

Fatih meets Tayyar on a boat out at sea. Tayyar tells him he’s pushing his luck. Do you have any idea who Omer talked to? Fatih says he’s been busy dealing with Elif. Tayyar says he spoke to the guy who killed Taner. Answer me honestly. Who is that guy? What is his name? He’s just some guy, Fatih replies. Tayyar asks, will he ever lead Omer to us? No one will find anything, Fatih answers, I cleaned everything up.

Tayyar explodes, what do you mean? Did you get some guy who knows me, you fool? He doesn’t know you, Fatih replies, but he used to. Tayyar is livid. Fatih explains, this guy used to work at the hospital. But there’s no connection to us. I destroyed everything on paper. If I hired someone I didn’t know, we would have had a problem.

And we are out.

KPA 48

Great summary, Dondi! I agree watching Tayyar and Fatih is fascinating. Tayyar gives me the creeps. I found his backsory interesting (that Pelin provided) including yet another Adana reference! I think it was even in the Telemuncdo Velvet as the location of an earthquake. I wonder if it’s famous for anything. I believe Atilla’s dad served Adana food, IIRC.

I feel a bit of compassion for Tayyar, but it’s a shame he made so many cruel and evil choices. Nevin’s tongue and Pinar’s ordeal come to mind. He goads his productive son, refusing to recognize him. Yet, favored Mert seems indulged and non-productive to me. I wonder why Tayyar left university early.

I hope Arda and Pelin figure it out soon. Arda seems to give Omer wise advice, so he must have some smarts. Pelin’s background report on Tayyar was very professional. Omer (and Husseyn!!!) has a good team.

Thank you for the summary!

Thanks, Dondi, for a great recap!

It's good that Elif listened and went and got Asli and unfortunate that she left Nilufer behind.

I wish we'd see more of Asli's fire return. I was wondering if she was faking her memory loss, but I don't see any signs of it yet. We need some of her spirit to liven things up, maybe give Bahar a few headaches! It might be interesting to see how she bonds with Omer's family too!

I'm still bummed that I'm not finding Pelin and Arda more romantic but perhaps something will break in the standoff and romance will develop? Fingers crossed.

My afternoon is going to be busy, and my morning will be tomorrow too so it will probably be later in the day tomorrow before I get the recap up but episode 49 will be posted tomorrow, hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! :)
