I am so confused.

Also, are there no laws against kidnapping in Turkey? Can you just steal someone’s child? All the characters seem very uncomfortable about it yet they comply. Why does everyone obey the matriarch? Is there a Canadian embassy in Istanbul?

#10 part 1

According to Sadakat’s orders, Deniz is taken from Alya. Alya hops in a car and chases. Muzzafer chases her. He informs Cihan, who heads off with Kadir.

Cihan gets a text from Mine: I told you I’d die for you. Remember me with love. He calls her. Unavailable. He tries her at work. She didn’t come in.

Kaya is out to get Ozkan for working with Demir. Sahin goes with him. Ottoman slap for Ozkan. Kaya sticks a gun in Ozkan’s ribs and quietly leads him out of the bank.

Cihan goes to Mine’s place and shoots the lock to open the door. There’s a mess inside, an empty bottle of pills and Mine is unconscious on the couch. Cihan has a flashback to 2018, when Seyda overdosed on pills. Cihan takes Mine to the hospital.

Deniz is carried into the Albora konak. Ayla pulls up, followed by Muzzafer. Alya is stopped from entering. She begs to be let in. Muzzafer takes pity and says he will ask if she can enter.

Kaya brings Ozkan home instead of leaving him in the minefield. Sahin convinced him not to do it. Ozkan denies working with Demir. He argues with Nare and calls Cihan a dictator who stole Alya’s child, ruined her medical career, and is forcing her to marry him. The only thing Ozkan admits is that he told the lawyer so he could help Alya. Slimeball. He tells Nare he loves her very much and asks her to understand him. Then he says he has to go to Ankara for a meeting.

Mine’s stomach is pumped. She will survive. Cihan got her to the hospital just in time. Cihan tells Kadir to stay at the hospital and let him know when Mine wakes up.

Alya is denied entrance to the konak. She drives the car through the front gate. She calls out to Sadakat—I’m going to see my son. Sada says she’ll shoot Alya. Deniz doesn’t deserve a mother like her. She should have married Cihan and become a part of the family instead of allying with the enemy. Now Sada won’t let her marry Cihan. She tells Ayla to leave the country or go back to prison.

Alya tries to pass. Sada orders Cihan to throw Alya out. He wordlessly sides with Alya.

Nadim confronts Demir—I told you to stay away from that woman and child. Demir is angry that Nadim stopped him from going after Cihan. He shouts that Nadim betrayed him, Seyda, and his own brother. That earns him a slap, a spit, and an “Allah belanı versin”.

Demir doesn’t back down. He calls his father a coward for not seeking revenge. Nadim tells him, in order to be strong, you need to form alliances with your enemies. Demir is determined. Nadim warns him not to join with Ecmel.

Alya speaks to Deniz. She says she has to go to Canada to go to the bank, the hospital, and to bring their things to Türkiye. He can’t go with her. Alya leaves and Cihan disregards his mother and follows Alya out.

Alya turns on Cihan. He took everything from her. It’s unforgivable. She had to lie to Deniz. One day he will find out the truth and know all that was done and what kind of man Cihan Amca really is. She promises that she will be back for her son.

Alya starts walking and Muzzafer says he will take her back to Nare’s. She keeps walking. Cihan scoops her up and puts her in Muzzafer’s car to take her there.

Sada calls Nare and tells her not to let Alya stay there.

#10 part 2

Cihan and Sada argue. She doesn’t want Cihan to marry Alya. He reminds her this was Boran’s final wish. Sada is determined to send Alya to prison and then have her leave the country for good.

Alya tells Nare she won’t stay. She just wants her things. She asks Ozkan if her money was transferred. He says not yet. Nare asks Alya not to leave while she’s so upset. Alya decides to stay. Ozkan leaves for his trip.

Cihan comes to see Mine. She asks, why did you take me to the hospital? You did this for yourself. You don’t want anyone to find out. Cihan explains that Alya won’t leave her son. There was no choice but to marry her. Mine asks, do you think she will understand our traditions? He shakes his head no.

Mine says she looked Alya up. She worked at a prestigious hospital. She’s been in Canada her whole life. Do you think she’d accept the customs of this place? Cihan says there’s no choice. Mine tells him, nobody will ever love you like I do. Cihan leaves.

Halis calls Cihan. A company rep will call Sahin tomorrow. Cihan tells Kadir to set up a meeting with everyone.

Kaya texts for Zerrin to come meet him outside. She can’t. Her mom is out but there’s a guard. He says let’s meet at the side patio. He will climb the wall. He tries and falls. Sahin appears on the street. Fidan arrives home.

Sahin helps Kaya get away. He asks Kaya, were you worried about Zerrin? Yes, he replies, your mother pulled her hair in front of me yesterday. Sahin asks, why did you come back? You need to be patient. Love requires sacrifice. Kaya can’t wait that long. Do I wait until she marries another man like Nare? [ouch]

Demir visits Ecmel and brings a feast of food along with rakı. Ecmel asks if Nadim knows he’s here. Ecmel tells Demir he should try to understand his father. He’s also the head of the Baybars. Demir acknowledges this and adds, you and I have never been the leaders of our clans. We have a lot in common. They drink.

Kaya mentions Ecmel. Cihan tried to get him out of prison. Sahin says his father thinks it was Hasan (Sada’s brother) who sold him out at Sada’s request. Kaya says Hasan denies this and his mom has nothing to do with it. Kaya says no matter what, they are brothers, along with Cihan.

Nare shows up at the Albora konak to speak with Cihan.

Demir wants to be included in Ecmel’s plans. Ecmel says no. Nadim would never go along with it. Demir says leave that to me. He asks, how do you organize everything while you’re here? Who is backing you on the outside? Ecmel’s not telling. Do your job and I’ll do mine, he says.

Cihan shows Boran’s video to Nare.

Alya takes her passport and a pair of diamond earrings. [I guess that’s what she’ll use to get money.] She tries sneaking out, but Kadir spots her. She gets away and into a taxi.

Cihan asks Nare not to tell Alya about the video. It hasn’t been easy for Cihan to accept and Alya would never understand.

Kadir calls Cihan. Alya escaped and they are looking for her.

Alya arrives at the airport and that’s where Cihan finds her.

And we are out.

IIRC Alya spoke with the Canadian embassy. They told her she needs to get her legal problems fixed before they can do anything. She still has a criminal case pending.

Power seems to be the key and matriarchs can be very powerful. I wonder if we’ll see a softer side of Sada.

Babachita

lejos

Yes, the embassy told Alya she had to file a report with the police first before they could help her with taking Deniz back to Canada. She couldn’t do that because she shot Cihan.

There is always a general deference to elders, whether they are family or in the community. And it’s a patriarchal culture. Even though Ecmel is in prison, Zerrin freaked out when Fidan said she was going to call him about Kaya. Cihan’s father is dead so Sadakat makes sure everyone toes the cultural line. Cihan and his siblings are careful when pushing back on Sadakat.

Most of the time on these dizis, the police stay out of the family feuds. People don’t automatically go to or cooperate with the police when we think they should.

Lejos

I think Cihan is developing at least respect and affection for Alya, and annoyance with his mother. Cihan let Alya ram the gates sovshe could see Deniz, knowing they could be fixed. I wish he would tell her about the video. He is underestimating the intelligence and ability to learn that this doctor has.

I hope we don't spend a couple of weeks of Alya with Demir. What a slimeball.

Thanks a million, dondi. That was a master class in how to do a shorter recap with a wealth of important details.

I had missed the bit about putting Ozkan in the minefield.

Maggie, we've seen glimpses of this culture in other dizis. Family honor is everything and arranged marriages don't seem to be off the table either.

What's up with Alya's money? When she couldn't get her hands on it at first, I thought maybe Cihan had somehow prevented that to force her to stay because of Deniz. Now I have no idea.

I am still confused about the things they're saying about Sahin and some part of somebody's business. It seemed to me that Sahin had been suspected of being involved with Ecmel's dealings. Now I'm not so sure that's it. In any case, I have no doubt of his loyalty to Cihan.

Speaking of Ecmel, he's not my fave, but he seems to be astute enough to give a wide berth to Demir, the loose cannon.

Several more pluses in Cihan's column. He saved Mine, but I'm sure she'll be trouble down the road. Everyone here was wondering why Cihan doesn't explain to Alya about Boran's wishes that Cihan marry her. But last night it seemed to me that he was protecting her from that knowledge. She might feel differently about Boran if she knew he was so entrenched in that part of Turkey's culture.

lejos

Welcome, Anastasia! I don't think I've seen comments from you before, but I may have missed them. I agree that Cihan feels something for Alya. He knows their family honor stuff is foreign to her. And he definitely admires her as a mother.

Lejos

Dondi and Babachita- thank you for the embassy information. I didn’t catch that!

And Dondi thank you for the excellent recap! I’d understand this all better if I could get the character names straight. I’m very confused by the rival family and who’s aligned with who and what all they’re up to.

It would be more affecting if little Deniz would cry about being separated from his mama but I bet the director doesn’t want to make such a little kid cry. Also with kids that little they get distracted so that when he says he doesn’t want his mama to go he’s looking at something else, maybe the camera crew.

Lejos de Ti – Uzak Zehir Episode 11
Traiciones a flor de piel (Skin-deep Betrayals)

Alya is running into the airport to get a ticket out of town.
Cihan tells Kadir to get all the men to check every hotel, run through every street carefully, and check the bus terminals. He tells them he is headed to the airport. He goes through the metal detectors. Alya is ahead of him. He finally spots her and calls out to her. She runs ahead in line. Kadir joins him.
Cihan: She’s going to Istanbul to the Canadian Consulate there. You follow her. Kadir has questions, but Cihan tells him he doesn’t’ know how: I don’t care if you take this flight or the next. Or you can go tomorrow. Your choice. Just get there before the consulate opens. Thank you.

Back home, Cihan and Kaya walk down the stairs. Sadakat bids them good morning. They respond the same.
Sadakat: So, she fled to the hell that is Istanbul.
Cihan: Yes, you wanted her to leave and that’s what she did.
Sadakat: Are you going into the office?
He replies yes.
Sadakat: What happened to the immigrants caught on the border with the merchandise?
Cihan: They were arrested.
Sadakat: Did they tell you who was behind the plan?
Cihan answers with the lip gesture meaning no.
Sadakat: And how did you find those migrants so easily?
Cihan: We’re good at that.
Sadakat: What will happen with Sahin?
Kaya: He’s also good at what he does.
Sadakat: Take precautions immediately. Time is a double-edged sword. If you don’t cut it, it will cut you.
Cihan: Speed isn’t always the best option, don’t you agree? I will evaluate before taking action.

In town of Midyat
Meeting of Cihan, Kaya, Erol (the lawyer) and an accountant (I think) reporting: The proposals weren’t accepted. Four companies want to review their logistical agreements with us. Others no longer have commercial dealings with our factories.
Sahin: They’ve been threatened by the other clans. The contraband being smuggled was probably theirs. If Nadim Baybars says he’s not involved, then who’s managing them and why don’t we know anything?
Sahin gets a call from Munir from Sununcu textile factories saying he’d like to discuss a private topic with him. He won’t tell him what it’s about and asks that he keep the meeting just between them.

Sahin starts to leave the group without telling them why.
Cihan agrees, and they look at each other for a time. Sahin is torn, but he explains it away as something from home. Cihan agrees, but probably can tell he is lying.
Kaya tells Cihan that Sahin should know that we know what’s going on.
Cihan says they need to wait. He watches Sahin leave.

Sahin calls Munir and wants to know what’s up. Why can’t I tell anyone about this?
Munir: You know that relationships between Albora Logistics and the other businesses are dying. I’d like to discuss a solution.
Sahin says fine, but he needs to talk to Cihan.
Munir: We don’t want to talk with him. We want to talk to you.
Sahin is very concerned.

At the Midyat penitentiary, Ecmel is eating with gusto. An official enters and delivers him an envelope. Ecmel asks who sent it and the answer is Sadakar Albora. The envelope contains a black and white picture of a couple.

Episode 11 #2
FLASHBACK: The couple in the picture, a young Ecmel is chasing young Sadakat by a body of water. She is laughing. He catches up, holds her, and says: I want to be like this forever. You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me, You are my life.
He kisses Sadakat on her forehead: You are the loveliest girl!
[Sadakat marries Ecmel’s brother instead of Ecmel. Does she love him back or is she just teasing him? He is the one making declarations of love in the flashback, not Sadakat.]

Back in the present.
The official tells Ecmel that Sadakat has come to see him. Ecmel reacts strongly to this and puts his jacket on, accompanying the official to a prison office.
Sadakat is dressed in attractive clothing and practices her smile.
Ecmel enters and she asks him to sit down.
Sadakat: You said you would never see me, what changed? Are you afraid that Fidan will see the picture? Or Sahin?
Ecmel laughs: You think you’re so brave? I can show it to your kids, too.
Sadakat: I have nothing to be embarrassed about, while you have many, many sins.
Ecmel: For which you have made me pay dearly, don’t you think? But that ends soon. Enjoy your remaining happy days.
Sadakat: You can look forward to worse days. Best not to live hopelessly dreaming. Sure, you might get the Baybars to join you, and you could get the backing of the clans, but you’ll never be the true owner of these lands. Not you, not Sahin.
He smiles at her.
She continues: Albora belongs to my children and after that, my grandchildren.
She stands to leave: Hah. Consider your actions carefully, or I can make it so that your son joins you in here.
She leaves and he is very upset. He looks at the picture angrily.

As Sadakat leaves, she runs into Fidan and Sahin outside the gates. Fidan asks what she is doing there. She replies she came to see “your bastard father,” which angers Sahin and Fidan.
Sadakat: That man you call your father is attacking Albora. (Fidan rolls her eyes.)
Sahin: That’s not true.
Sadakat: Who’s smuggling merchandise? Who knows how to do it? Who would want to incriminate my children? And who shot up the truck and closed off our commercial routes? Your father is behind all of this and you know it.
Sahin: My father would never do anything like that.
Sadakat: Really? Then your father doesn’t want you to run Albora? If not, why do those companies want to meet with you and not Cihan? I know why. They want to meet you and recognize you as the person who’ll run Albora from now on, do they not? The vultures lie in wait and observe. I will allow them to continue before I deal with them. Then everyone will see who the true owner of Albora is.

Sadakat leaves while Fidan and Sahir enter the penitentiary for their meeting.
Sahin: Is it true, father? Did you betray Albora?
Ecmel: Why don’t you ask Cihan that? Betrayal is his specialty. Ask him to tell you.
Sahin: So you didn’t trip over the truck? You didn’t have Kaya and Cihan processed? You didn’t close off the commercial routes either? You didn’t smuggle any merchandise?
Evmel: Shut up. I had no reason to do any of that.
Sahin: You said that Cihan’s position belonged to me. That’s why the heads of the companies want to see me. You organized it all.
Ecmel. Have you forgotten that I’m locked up?
Sahin: Then you’re working for the Baybars.

Episode 11 #3
Ecmel gives Sahin an Ottoman slap. He grabs Sahin, while Fidan tells them to calm down. He yells at Sahin: How dare you accuse me of doing business with the scum that killed my brother? I’m Albora, damn it. Repeat those words to Cihan. He made a deal with the Baybars for one of their women. This is all happening because you got involved with Nare.
Sihan: Watch what you say, Father.
Ecmel: What are you going to do? Will. you raise your hand to your father? Are you going to hit the man who raised you?
Fidan: Calm down, both of you.
Ecmel: Cihan isn’t capable of running the business. His stubbornness in not letting merchandise pass through our lands has ruined everything. It destroyed his roots. Everybody’s talking about what he did to Boran’s widow. They all think it’s a shame. He wants to make that woman and her son a part of the business. He’s strong because he controls everyone. That’s why the companies are approaching you. They know you and who you are. So, what are you waiting for? Go and talk to them. Show them who deserves to have our last name. Do it.
Sahin leaves.

Istanbul
Alya walks up to the Canadian Consulate. She shows her passport and says she has an appointment. Kadir is watching her from a distance and calls Cihan. He reports she just entered the consulate.
Cihan: Don’t move from there.

Back home, Sahin stomps into Cihan’s office followed by Kaya: This morning you knew why they called. You knew they want to meet with me. Everyone knew and you didn’t tell me.
Cihan tells him to calm down.
Sahir: I bet you thought I’d rush to see them when they called. We are brothers. I thought you trusted me.
Cihan: Calm down. Kaya, close the door.
Cihan: How did you find out?
Sahir: Your mother. I went to get answers from my father. She said he’s behind everything.
Cihan: Isn’t he?
Sahin: No! He only thinks what he deserved was taken from him. (They stare at each other for a bit.)
Cihan: He wants you to be in charge of the Albora lands. You didn’t mention that part. (Brief pause here.) So, what do we do?
Sahin: That’s right. But I don’t care what you say about my fathere.
Cihan: You think it matters to me? I don’t care, either. I’m not the only Albora. Neither is he. Nor you. We’re all Alboras. You don’t get it. Let’s protect Albora together. What did you think?
Sahin: My father is not working with the enemy. He would never do something like that. I will never believe that.
Cihan: I was sure you wouldn’t meet with those men. I didn’t care about that. But I had to act as if I did.
Sahin: Tell me why.
Cihan: There’s no doubt you’re a good brother. But the rest had to see what kind of brother you are so they’d stop being suspicious. Do you understand me? Look, I love Kaya and he’s as important to me as you are. I don’t have any doubts about you, you understand? Have we cleared things up?
Sahin: I understand, brother. Thank you.
Cihan: I would never think you could betray me. I don’t want you thinking that.
Someone knocks at the door. Cihan tells him to come in.
Erol comes in, noticing the expressions on the three men.
Cihan: Send a message to the companies. I know they’ll come when it’s convenient for them.
Erol: What happens if they don’t?
Cihan: If you don’t make them jump through hoops, why wouldn’t they? I want you to bring them.
Erol: OK.

Episode 11 #4
At the Canadian Consulate in Istanbul.
Canadian official: Toronto Center Hospital cancelled their contract with you and laid you off, correct?
Alya: Yes, unfortunately.
Official: Ms. Albora, we can’t do anything. I’m sorry. There’s nothing we can do regarding your judicial process.
Alya: Do you think you could help my son? His name is Deniz Albora.
Official: What’s the problem?
Alya: He just lost his passport. Could I apply for a new one here at the consulate?
Official: We could help, but you should report it lost at the police station. Do you have pictures?
Alya: Of course. I have one of my son and one of the passport. I can email them to you.
Official: Thank you. The process can take awhile, but we can issue a temporary passport. It’s valid for one month.
Alya: Thank you.

Later, Alya is walking in Istanbul, followed by Kadir and Cihan.
She goes into a jewelers asking to exchange a pair of earrings. The jeweler gives her cash for them. She leaves, and Cihan sends Kadir to buy the earrings back.
She sits by the Bosphorus and throws bagel pieces at the seagulls.
Cihan and Kadir join her.
Alya: How did you know I was here?
Cihan tells her Kadir followed her and he just joined them.
Cihan: What did you tell them at the consulate?
Alya is surprised he doesn’t have people on the inside to inform him. He tells her he’s usually got a long reach, but those places are very challenging.
Alya: I told them what happened and they listened in horror. They were really upset that, in addition to everything else, I was fired from the hospital. Don’t hold it in. I know you’re happy that I was fired. I dedicated years of my life to that hospital. You ruined my life.
Cihan: Mardin also has hospitals.
She tells him to leave.
Cihan: I’m just being realistic. That way you can keep working in a hospital.
Alya: I’d like to dream of a world you’re not a part of.
Cihan: Impossible.
She starts to leave.
Cihan: Where are you going?
Alya: If you follow me, I’m calling the police.
Cihan: Really? (He is smiling his little “I like Alya” smile.)
Alya: Yes.
Cihan: That wouldn’t be a good idea. You already have a record. If they show up, I’ll tell them you attacked me. Then what would happen?
Alya: Why do you want to marry me so much? Are you even capable of love?
Cihan: It’s not easy for me.
Alya: It’s easy. Five minutes.
Cihan: That’s nonsense. Five minutes to determine if I’ll dedicate my life to a woman?
Alya: Would you have to dedicate your life?
Cihan: When I fall in love, I’ll want to be with that person my whole life.
Alya: Then go and find someone.
Cihan: Wait. Are you leaving here today?

Babachita
Alya: I just got money for a ticket. You go ahead. Your private jet’s just waiting for you.

Episode 11 #5
She walks off and arrives at an unimpressive hotel by taxi. She asks for a room for one night and offers her identification. Cihan arrives and snatches her identification out of her hand saying she will be staying somewhere else. She resists, but he says she should stay in a nicer place than that. Kadir tells her there are rats at that hotel. They arrive at a Sheraton, and Cihan gives her the key to a room after checking her in. They follow her up. Cihan says they have different rooms on the same floor. She closes the elevator without letting them in.
Cihan to Kadir: Patience. We have to give it time. [This made me laugh!]

Back at the Albora konak, Kaya enters the dining room and Deniz runs to him. Sadakat tells Deniz not to leave the table until he’s finished dinner. Kaya carries him over to his chair so he can finish dinner. Deniz asks where Uncle Cihan is.
Sadakat: Why, didn’t Cihan come?
Kara: Well, my brother went to Istanbul.
Sadakat starts thinking.
The phone rings in Cihan’s Istanbul hotel room. Sadakat: I want you to return immediately.
Cihan: No, tomorrow.
Sadakat: You’re making a mistake. Let that woman do what she wants. Is she with you now?
Cihan: I have to hang up now, mother. The air’s running and I’m in a robe.
He hangs up.
Sadakat: What does he mean he’s in a robe?
In the hotel restaurant, Alya is toying with her food. Cihan enters and sits with Kadir a few tables away.
Alya sees him.
Cihan: What are you eating?
Kadir: I’m trying something new.
Alya looks longingly at pictures of Deniz on her phone. She calls him.
He is playing with Ummu and Pakize. Mother and son talk happily.
Deniz: Are you in Istanbul? Uncle Cihan is helping you, isn’t he?
Sadakat listens at the door.
Deniz: Did you get the tickets?
Alya: Cihan has them.
Deniz: So, you’ll be here when I wake up tomorrow, won’t you?
Alya: Yes, my son. Don’t worry about that now.
Sadakat yanks the phone away from Deniz.
Deniz: Give me back my telephone, Grandmother! I’m talking to my mom. Please.
Sadakat: It is late and you should sleep. Change your clothes now.
Deniz: Give me the phone, Grandmother. I can’t sleep now. I’m talking to my mommy.
Sadakat makes annoying faces and tells the girls to put him to bed.
Deniz: No, give me the phone, Grandmother! I’m talking with my mother. I don’t want to sleep yet.
Alya (into the phone): What’s happening, honey? Deniz? This is Ms. Sadakat, isn’t it? Can you hear me, Deniz?
Cihan notices and approaches her.
Alya: Deniz, can you hear me?
Sadakat: Don’t you dare call this phone again.
Alya: I was only speaking to my son, ma’am. Please give him back the phone.
Sadakat: This phone and your son are gone.
Sadakat hangs up. Alya gets upset and Cihan approaches.
Alya: Why does she treat me like this? She’s driving me crazy.
Cihan: What happened?
Alya: She won’t let me talk to my son. She took the phone from him. Why’d she do that? I’m losing my mind, Cihan. I can’t deal with this anymore, you understand? I feel like I’m going to explode. It’s too much for me and it’s breaking my heart. I can’t do this anymore.
She leaves and Cihan directs Kadir to follow her.

Cihan calls Sadakat: Mom, give Deniz the phone back.
Sadakat: That women he calls his mother is by your side. She asked you to call, didn’t she? She thinks that you’ll help her talk to him.
Cihan: I’ll be the only one who talks to him. Please don’t do these things. I need to know that the boy is OK. Is he crying?
Sadakat: He is sleeping. [I doubt that]. We had to force him. If you’re so worried about him, come back.
She hangs up and throws the phone on the bed.

Alya is drinking in the bar. Kadir is watching her and calls Cihan.
Kadir: Cihan, I don’t know how to say this, but we have a problem.
Cihan joins her and takes the drink away. She resists.
Cihan: Alya, that’s enough. You’re drunk.
Alya: You know why? I’m going to tell you something. My brain never stops thinking. It’s always talking to me. I want to disappear, to vanish. I want to get away and be done with this, but you keep appearing, and with you, all my fears. That’s why. Pour me another, hurry! I’m so tired. So, I’m leaving. I don’t want to look at you.
She stumbles out, dancing with some guys on the way, and Cihan takes hold of her.
He tells them she is his sister-in-law and that Kadir is his brother. Kadir explains to the guys that they’ve been fighting lately.
In the room, she says she is going to vomit. Cihan picks her up and takes her to the bedroom. (Music, in Spanish, starts playing, with trumpets even!)
He carries her into the room and lays her on the bed. She says: Deniz.
Cihan watches her.
Alya: I want my baby. My son.
Cihan takes her boots off.
Alya: All I want is my son.
Cihan looks her over to be sure she is OK, puts the retrieved earrings on the bedstand along with her phone, and leaves. She is still calling for her son.

Back in Midyat, Demir and his henchmen are visiting his late relatives in the cemetery.
An SUV drives up with Sadakat and several Albora henchmen. They have come to water the flowers.
Demir moves out of the way with his henchmen.
Sadakat waters flowers and prays. All of a sudden, Demir and his crew show up, pistols drawn.
Muzzafer says: Demir, you know to show some respect.
Demir: Don’t worry. We just came to give our condolences.
Sadakat stands up when finished and faces Demir: I hope you burn in hell one day, Demir Baybar.
Demir: I’m sure I will. But, I’ve made preparations down there, too. What do we do about the flames in this world, Ms. Sadakat? We can’t waste an opportunity like that.
Sadakat: You think your threats scare me, you bastard?
Demir: You’re right. Wny would you have fear of me? That’s what Alya’s for. Cihan went looking for that woman in Istanbul. There will be a wedding, Sadakat Albora. It’d be wise to get a head start on preparing the jewels. As soon as that woman enters your mansion, you’ll know that Demir Baybar will be there, too. What Zeyda could not do, that woman will. She’ll topple that mansion.
Sadakat: You think it’s that easy? Albora that weak that a woman can topple it? If that’s so, topple it right now. You think it’s made of mud? You’re so naïve. Your underestimation of me is a mistake. In the end, that will be your downfall.
Demir and crew turn and leave.
Sadakat and crew head to their vehicle. Her phone rings. It’s Ummu. She tells Sadakat something that upsets her and they run for the car. Everyone to the mansion now.

Back in Istanbul, Alya awakes with a hangover. She notices her earrings. She dresses and leaves the room. Cihan is waiting at the door.

Episode 11 #7
Alya: Did you sleep at the door or what?
Cihan: No, I put a camera in your room.
She shows him the earrings: And this?
Cihan: They are yours. I found them on the street.
She rolls her eyes.
He asks how she is feeling? Still nauseous?
She tells him her head hurts.
Cihan: It’s obvious you drank too much.
Alya: No, it’s the sight of you.
Cihan: Stop it, Alya! Let’s not start again. Let’s go, we need to talk.
Kadir has been waiting. We have the tickets. Let’s go.
Alya: Who said I wanted to leave with you?
Cihan: I bought the tickets and we’re leaving together.
Alya: You’re a nightmare.
Cihan gets a call. They leave right away. At the konak, Alya runs up the stairs. Sadakat tries to block her. Cihan takes her to Deniz. He has being treated with medicine. Mother and son hug. He still feels bad. Cihan tells him he is a lion and will get over this.
Deniz: I got sick and feel bad.
Cihan: You’ll feel better soon.
Ummu admits to leaving the window open last night. Maybe that’s why he got sick.
Both Alya and Cihan ask why she left it open.
Deniz tells them it’s not her fault. It was the night that Grandma took the phone from me. I was crying so much that Ummu opened the window so I’d feel better.
Alya says it’s OK and wants to talk to Dr. Murat outside.
Kaya promised Deniz that they will go look at horses soon.

Outside, Dr Murat tells them Deniz had a very high fever when he arrived. He was shaking and had muscle spasms. He was taken to the hospital immediately. Thankfully, a good pediatrician treated him. The IV brought the fever down. Did you run tests? Dr Murat said they did and all were OK.
Cihan asks if he still has fever. Dr Murat says: Alya knows that in situations like these the fever doesn’t come down immediately. The meds are there, you can look them over.
Sadakat starts up the stairs, and Alya returns to Deniz’s room.
Cihan to Sadakat: I told you to give him the phone and you told me he was sleeping. Why did you lie to me, mother?
Sadakat: It wasn’t a lie. I told the truth.
Cihan: Would it have been so hard to give him the phone? Didn’t it break your heart to see him drying for his mother?
Sadakat: What are you trying to say? Of course, I felt sad. It’s not easy to see him like that. I couldn’t live if something were to happen to Deniz. He’s my own blood.
Cihan: Of course he is, Mom, but he’s Alya’s son. He is the son of Alya and you still love him. Why do you behave this way? Alya came to speak to him. She convinced him to stay here. What more do you want?
Sadakat: She should never have called him. When she does, she fills him with hope and forgetting her is that much harder. He cannot hear her voice or see her. What else did you expect me to do?
Cihan: Things are going to happen exactly as I told you. You need to understand that.
Sad: Even though I don’t like repeating myself, I’ll say it again: You cannot marry that woman. I will never allow it. She can stay for today but tomorrow morning she leaves.
Alya arrived in time to hear that last part.
Back with Deniz, Alya gives him more medicine. She says his temperature is down. Deniz asks how she can tell without a thermometer. Is it because she’s a doctor? Alya replies that it’s because she’s his mother. All mothers know the smell and temperature of their children by memory.
Cihan enters. They have a nice interlude with Deniz and end up smiling at one another. Cihan’s Alya-smile is getting bigger.

Episode 11 #8

The next day, Alya looks at Deniz before putting on her coat to leave. She runs into Sadakat. Sadakat: You should leave before he wakes up.
Alya: I’ve decided I’m staying here. I’m not going to prison, either. I’m going to live in this mansion with my son, as I should.
Sadakat: How is that going to happen?
Alya: How do you think? (Sadakat gives her a serious stare.). Yes, That’s right. Just what you imagine. I can’t leave without you experiencing everything you’ve put me though.
Sadakat: Are you threatening me?
Alya: Yes. I’ve reached that point.
Cihan comes down the stairs
Alya: Can we talk? Not here, somewhere else.
Sadakat: No, Cihan. You’re not going anywhere with this woman.
Alya: Please, can we talk?
Cihan takes awhile, balancing his mother and Alya’s positions, before he agrees to go with her.
Sadakat: Cihan, I said you’re not going anywhere.
(Alya eyeroll.) Cihan leads her downstairs.
Sadakat: You’ll regret this, Cihan.

They go out to the cliff with the view that I think he took her to once before.
Cihan: I’m listening.
Alya: Since we’ll never be a real husband and wife, I want all this in writing. Deniz will stay in school and you won’t interfere or oppose. You’re going to allow it. I’m going to work in some local hospital. You can’t deny me that either. Then, when Deniz turns 18, if he decides to leave, you won’t stop him. You’ll let him live here. But if it’s not his choice to stay, then I will leave by myself and we’ll get divorced. You’ll be free. Will you accept this?
He nods his head, yes.
Alya: Then I accept marrying you under those conditions.
Suddenly, a gunshot rings out, and Alya slowly collapses.
He looks to see someone holding the pistol. [My guess is Sadakat, but I could be wrong.]

Wow! Thanks so much for the detailed recap, Babachita. You cleared up some things that went right by me.

What? Istanbul is hell? Sada seems to live in the 12th Century.

Guess it's scary to do business in Turkey. Babachita, you used the word clans which interested me. Was that a word you translated from Spanish. I guess I thought they were talking all along about powerful families, but clans seems a better word.

I really can't figure out definitively if Ecmel IS doing all the bad things Sada thinks he is. He certainly went ballistic when he was accused of it. Also, it was mentioned that it was necessary to "protect Albora". Way back when we saw a sign on the road to the konak that used that name. So, the Albora have a village named after them?

Sada has quite the dirty mind. Her son in a bathrobe means to her that he's either about to jump Alya's bones or is post coital.

Deniz got a good look at his granny. I don't think he'll get over that quickly. And just like in TNs, people (especially children) get really sick, really fast. I guess we're to assume his heartbreak over Mean Granny yanking away his phone caused it.

I suppose we'll get more flashbacks. Was Sada forced to marry Cihan's father when she really loved Ecmel. I suppose this could explain how she got to be so horrible.

I was wondering about both "clans" at the cemetery. Was it the Turkish version of El Día de los Muertos? There's been a nighttime parade for this event in San Francisco for years. I've gone in costume a few times. And there's also an exhibit of ofrendas at, I think, The Mission Cultural Center. This year celebrations were way down, except the one in Oakland, because of fears of ICE seizing some celebrants.

Ugh. Demir tells Sada that Alya will marry Cihan and be his mole. She refused and even told Cihan about it. Did Cihan tell Sada that?

Loved "Cihan's Alya smile is getting bigger".

Babachita, you did a ton of work getting all the details and dialog and believe me, I appreciated every word. I’m so confused by all the machinations of the families and so much got clearer to me thanks to your recap!

Outstanding job!

Novelera, I often use English subtitles to save time. The use of “clans” was from the English ccs. At first, I was inclined to use “gang” instead. But “clan” conveys the familial aspect, so I am going ahead with clans.

Thank you for the kind comments, Maggie and Novelera. This was a busy episode! I’m looking forward to more flashbacks. Lots of history to discover. This dizi has it all!

On the subject of “clans,” I went back to the Midyat “business meeting” early in the episode where Sahin used the word. In the dubbed Spanish he said “clanes” and it was also in the Spanish cc. Interesting cross-cultural language usage.

Perfect from beginning to end, Babachita.

In the Turkish, the word that’s being used to describe the troublemakers is “aşiret”, which means “tribe”. Thinking a tribe is a larger group than a clan. I guess it’s the translator’s choice.

Part 1 of 3

Yep, the shooter was Sadakat. Cihan screams at her. She’s oblivious, just asking if she’d killed her. Cihan clearly plans to cover this up. He has some henchies take Sada home. [How’d she get there? We’ve not seen her drive. Does her driver know what she did?]

Cihan calls the family doctor, Murat. Meanwhile Kaya is again being an amazing tío, pretending that Deniz can better him in arm wrestling.

More coverup. Instead of calling an ambulance, Cihan puts Alya in the back seat of a car he’s driving. He calls Kaya, but Deniz grabs the phone, insisting on speaking to his mother. Bleeding all over Cihan’s car, Alya assures her son she’s fine. Kaya is told to bring Kadir and Muzaffer to the company’s infirmary.

Sada is back at the konak. She asks Kaya if “she’s dead”. “I shot her, and Cihan needs to make sure she doesn’t survive.”

Murat works on Alya. Kaya and Nare arrive. Nare blames Cihan for insisting on the marriage. He gets upset and tells her to butt out. She looks him straight in the eye and tells him about the message from Mommy Dearest, that Cihan make sure Alya dies. I’m losing respect for Cihan very quickly. He tells Nare and Kaya that Alya didn’t see who shot her. Murat says they have to take Alya to a hospital. Cihan’s solution is to call Mine, asking for some sort of under the radar hospital visit.

When Cihan says that Alya could die, Mine’s response was to say that she could have died also. [Not exactly the same thing, Mine. You tried to kill yourself. Alya just wants to raise her son and practice medicine.] In any case, Mine refuses to help. He says he’ll take her to the public hospital and say that he shot her. Mine doesn’t believe he did it, but she agrees to set something up.

Murat says that Alya needs blood. Her ID indicates O positive. Nare says that Sihan is O positive. [Funny. I’ve had a decent number of boyfriends. I can’t remember exchanging blood types.]

The siblings are at the hospital. Sahin has donated. Cihan tells Sahin the truth about Sada having shot Alya.

Sada calls Cihan, ordering him to remove Alya from the hospital or she’ll rat out the under the radar deal, which will also ruin Mie. Cihan manages to find a sliver of backbone and tells her that, if she does anything against Murat or Mine, he won’t ever forgive her.

After the surgery Cihan tells Kaya and Nare that they’re taking Alya to the konak. After they put Alya in the back of a huge van, Cihan gives orders to Kadir and Muzaffer that no one is to enter Alya’s room. She’s sick. Deniz is not to see her. Cihan thanks Mine very sincerely. Mine mutters that she hopes he means it. [Hey, Cihan, this area is pretty medieval; why not marry both of them?]

Part 2 of 3

Sada fakes some concern for the servants as Alya is carried into the konak. Kaya erupts at his mother. She hangs tough. “I don’t threaten and not follow through.” Cihan says he’s never going to speak to her again. Fully sure she’s in the right, Sada says that he ignored her wishes and accepted that woman’s proposal. [How’d she know Alya had agreed? Lip reader?]

Kaya says he’s afraid for the first time. If he married Zerrin, she’d shoot her also? Sada: “Of course I would.”

Sada asks Cihan if he isn’t afraid she’ll try to finish the job. “Try it and we’ll see if you still have a son named Cihan.” Sada: “Now you’re threatening me.” He replies that he’s trying to save her from being a murderer. Sada snarls that the woman decided to help Demir. “And then she stood before me and challenged me to put her in her place. I don’t regret what I did. No one can defy me and not face the consequences.”

Cihan: “What about Cihan (Deniz)? If you keep this up, the boy will hate you. Sada: “I’ll bring him up the way I brought you up. Not in a bed of roses.” Cihan: “I’m going to raise him, and you aren’t going to interfere. And, if you harm Alya again, I’ll take him away and you’ll never see us again ever. Believe me. You don’t know how lucky you are. Alya is going to be all right, and she never saw you. I have the gun and the bullet, the evidence. I haven’t decided yet what to do until Alya recuperates. Don’t do anything. Understand?”

Sahin comes in just to say that Murat is looking for him. Sada orders him to get out. “What’s this guy doing in my house?” Her children berate her, but the damage is done. Sahin, outside on the terrace, overhears Sada saying that Sahin has a devil’s blood inside…Ecmel. Cihan argues with his mother, mentioning Sahin donating the blood. [Like that would make this woman happy.] Sahin leaves without a word. Both Nare and Pakize look sad.

Nare asks her mother what kind of person she is and gets the lecture about her being a married woman. Nare calls, but Sahin doesn’t pick up.

Murat tells Cihan that Alya is stable, and a nurse will care for her. He’ll be back again in the evening.

Alya wakes up. At first, she doesn’t know what happened or where she is. Then she remembers. “Someone shot me. Who was it?" Cihan replies that he didn’t see who shot her. She gets very upset, starting to thrash around. She says she has to protect Deniz. It’s really hurting her, and the nurse injects something into her IV for the pain.

Part 3 of 3

Sada comes into the room where her three disgusted children are. Cihan tells her he’s going to honor Boran’s wishes. “I’ll marry her. Don’t look at me that way. At this point we can’t let her leave with her son. They’re going to pursue her. Then they’ll negotiate with her to keep her son and force her to cooperate. And, if she refuses, they’ll kill her. The only option is to marry. Believe me, neither of us is happy with this marriage. I’m not doing it for pleasure or to spite you. Before you shot her, I asked her again and she agreed. Despite your not accepting this, the reason things went so far is your fault! Admit it. She admits nothing and walks out.

Nare remarks that she hasn’t given up. “How will Alya live here without knowing what happened. And, what if she tries it again?” Cihan: “She won’t, because she’d lose me.”

Nare again calls Sahin, and he ignores the call. He has gone to the prison to see his father. [Uh oh. Hope this doesn’t mean he’s switching teams.]

Nare comes home, and Ozkan starts griping about not knowing where she was and her not picking up his calls. After a moment of silence, she tells him she went to see Deniz because he was ill. Ozkan: “Where’s Alya?’ Nare: “With her ailing son, where else?” He says that Alya didn’t answer his calls. When she barks at him about calling Alya, he replies that he’d managed to get her funds transferred.

Ozkan gets a call from Alya’s slimy lawyer, Badahir. Ozkan lets Nare listen on speaker. Badahir asks about Alya. She hasn’t answered his calls. Ozkan tells him that she isn’t there. Badahir asks if he knows where she is. We see Demir the vulture leaning forward at the same table. Ozkan says he has no idea. After he hangs up, Ozkan says he thinks Nare is hiding something from him.

Demir gets a call from Ecmel. Ecmel wants to know where Alya is. [Huh?] Demir says they don’t know. Her phone is turned off.

Murat has come to check on Alya. He says that he adjusted her meds and she’ll sleep well. He also said she asked Murat some questions.

Cihan comes in (the next morning?). Alya wants to know why Murat removed the bullet at the infirmary. “What? My life was at risk, and you didn’t take me to the hospital. Did you call the police?” Cihan responds that he didn’t have time. Alya: “That was the first thing you should have done. Call them now.” Cihan: “Not now. When you’re better I’ll call.” Allya: “Give me my phone!” He shows her a smashed phone. Then she insists on seeing Deniz. “Who shot me?

This is excellent, Novelera! I’m very grateful for all the detail.

It didn’t occur to me to wonder how Sad got to the remote location to do her shooting. I was wondering why Cihan drove them to such a far away place just because Alya said she wanted to talk in private.

“Henchies” - love it! Side note: I was watching a show from New Zealand where a lady was saying she had workmen at her house. She called them “tradies.” Isn’t that great?

Yeah, that was a huge van they brought her home in. I was wondering how it was going to get back out. Backing up the whole way I guess.

I was thinking Sad was weird; now I think she’s nuts.

Maggie

lejos

Great summary, Novelera. And Maggie, I have been pondering your question. I can’t think of a way for Sadakat to get to the shooting site. She’s so powerful, it’s possible a henchie might have taken her and left. But, how did she know where to go? So, I guess she followed them somehow. Maybe we’ll find out that cliff is right next to the konak with a garden path leading to it! JK! Maybe she teleported!!! She is seriously crazy. What made her this way? There has to be more to the story, maybe with Ecmel. She hates Sahin. Why is that? Is there something about his blood type matching Alya’s?

Lots more mystery.
