Papas #48 part 1

Circe and Checo are talking. He likes the project he and Edith are doing and Edith. They both have something to tell the other. He goes first, he’s moving to Canada. Circe says that’s so far from her.

Two days earlier rice is discussing her announcement with her parents. They think she’s doing something rash after her divorce. She always liked guys so this is sudden. Gisela comes in saying it’s the end of the world.

Unbelievably, Hernan seems to hit El Chacal with his cane and gets away.

Nazario is yelling at the kids. He goes in the both so they can sing. Prisma says they need rest. If he wants her opinion he’ll ask for it. He goes back to the kids and hits each one on the forehead. Lara Luz calls wondering when she and Rudolf can see the kids. He says it’s not a good time and hangs up. Prisma asked Nazario about Pipe’s medicine, as did Natalie to Pipe. I don’t think he’s taking it, but not sure.

Gisela blames the parents for Circe. She hopes Uli will be manly. They tell her she’s homophobic and not to try and raise their kids.

Serena offers to let Chachito watch one of her videos. Cheno says no. They end up doing a commercial for the gym in her video.

Aide thinks Circe is being impulsive, but she will support her if eventually she does like girls. Tino disagrees and she says she raised Circe and knows her better. Alexander comes in. He can go with his dad tomorrow as long as Melina is not present.

Hernan gives Melina the hard drive with Uli’s computer on it. He wants his share, she says it will raise suspicions if he leaves now. If El Chacal wanted to kill him he’d be dead now. Íker comes in glad to see his grandfather, who invites him out to dinner.

Edith asks Circe about them. She says they’re going out, but Edith has to grab her face as she looks at a handsome guy.

Tino comes in as Hernan and Íker are looking at his laptop. Íker takes the laptop and leaves. Hernan apologizes to Tino, he’s done a lot wrong but he did bring Íker to him. He asks for a hug.

Gisela is still going on about Circe and it being Aide’s fault. Aide’s had enough. Gisela asks about Hernan and Aide tells her he left early this morning. She leaves as Aurelio calls Aide.

Clara Luz and Aide ask to see the kids. Prisma says she’s there alone. Nazario is yelling at the kids at the studio. The guy recording says they’re tired. Nazario doesn’t care. Natalia tells Pipe to have a crisis, Pipe flips out yelling and flipping things over. The recorder is afraid something will get broken, so the session is over.

Aurelio gives Aide the proof that Herna stole the jewelry. He didn’t tell Gisela because she wouldn’t believe him. Also Hernan was threatening him if he told. Aide will take care of it. Meanwhile Gisela is yelling into her phone for Hernan to answer. She wants to discuss the crypto money and her new account. Uli asks if everything’s ok. He’ll help her on his laptop.

Tino asks about the girl Circe is interested in. She says she’s confused and he tells her to take her time.

Uli can’t find the account info on the computer. He says he doubts Hernan knows enough about the computer to do this. She says he does know. She finds the info on her phone, he finds it on the computer. She has no money!

Tino tells Circe Edith is older than her and probably already knows her sexual preferences. He tells her things have consequences.

Papas #48 part 2

Gisela is freaking out. Hernan took all his things. Aide asks what’s wrong. Gisela says he took all her money. They had a romantic relationship.

Lila is working for a sick coworker. Bill’s grateful and is going to give her a bonus. She’s saving for college to major in international business and go far away.

Gisela is still upset, Aide and Uli tell her she needs to calm down and denounce Hernan as what he did was fraud. She decides Melina is his partner. Aide tells her they came together, Gisela didn’t know this. Tino comes in and she yells at him for what his father did.

Hofis tells Jeni to leave Poncho alone, he’s a minor. She shows Chofis a bunch of pictures of females on her phone. I didn’t understand that.

Gisela,tells Tino what happened. Aide wants to call a doctor but she has medicine in the kitchen. Aide and Tino go to get it, Aide points out Melina could be a partner to Hernan. They also know he goes to the casino.

Melina denies knowing anything about what Hernan did. But she’ll do all she can to help them. They hug. She’s going to do all she can to find him. They kiss and as Tino leaves she calls Hernan.

Checo and Circe almost kiss but end up,saying adios. Circe’s friend sits down, wanting to know what’s up. She tells her she likes Edith, which brings a que from the friend.

Poncho tells Chofis he’s taking his medicine but wonders what girl would want him after she learns his first time was with a prostitute. Hofis tells about her first time and how she ended up in the hospital. She wants him to tell Serena.

Bill and Emi are talking basketball. Emi tells him Paulina said he could get the use of his legs back. Bill promises to be at his side.

Poncho tells Chofis he’s liked a girl named Kim, but now he likes Jeni. Chofis tells him she’s older, and he needs someone with the same interests. She leaves and Jeni owes up to him. After class she’ll teach him some fun things.

Melina talks to Hernan. It looks like he’s in the Las Vegas airport. Melina is mad, but he says he never got his money for the necklace. He ends up threatening her, which she can’t believe. He hopes he never sees her again.

A fraud investigator is with Tino, Aide and Gisela. It seems Hernan stole from Tino, that bank loan that disappeared from his account. Tono thinks back to the times his dad told him he wanted to help him, etc. The investigator tells them he’s surprised the bank never notified them. Tino blames his father’s skill at defrauding people. The investigator says a hacker can do a lot of things and Tino needs to denounce him too.

Gisela is saying Melina was Hernan’s partner when she walks in and denies it. Tino gives her a strange look.

Circe’s friend can’t believe her best friend is a lesbian. Circe wants her to have another coffee but she’s going to class. When Circe grabs her arm she pulls away.

DOMENICA

As was discussed in the previous page, we’re trying to resume discussions about this novela. I’m bingewatching this to catch up (currently in capítulo 12). Hopefully discussions of episodes as they show can resume soon. With luck, I can get caught up in a few days.

MONTEVERDE #38, Part 1

Carlos explains he ran into Juanita, (doméstica), whom he knows lied to him; he instructs Padilla to search Monteverde, he has no doubt Carolina and Andres are there.

A broadly smiling Oscar is thrilled with the renovations have been made to the school; Carolina gulps and pretends she is happy as she side eyes him…

Lucas visits his deceased abuela, Francesa Rossi’s tomb. He says he found out his grandfather is Mexican, not Italian as he had thought. He is upset and searches for answers.

Manuel’s is decorated for Doris’ party as Angelina and Gloria arrive. The guests including Lucia, Rosalia and others, all looked pretty and excited to be there. Party pooper Julieta arrives in her perpetual plaid shirt but hightails it up to her room. The women are animated and look forward to a surprise guest’s appearance. 😊

Oscar tries to explain “fraud” to adorable Moises, talking about Carlos. He kisses his son goodnight and closes the door as the dear lad closes his eyes.

Hugo and Manuel are the bartenders as Diana, Doris’s sister gives a speech telling her sister that she loves her and is happy for her. The women enthusiastically toast, Angelina sipping on her oj.

Juan David and the man he gave a ride to who will be entertaining at the shower, arrive at Manuel’s. Without preamble he walks into the restaurant, revved up, ready to go. He wears a plaid shirt, vest, hat, jeans and cowboy boots. As he starts his routine, Juan David, standing off to the side, starts to mimic him. The guy is ripped and gets on the floor doing some fly moves. My namesake comments on how handsome Hugo is to Juanita who scowls in displeasure. Next, the entertainer rips off his pants to reveal black briefs! Doris is ecstatic as he puts her hands on his torso; she enjoys every second. Finally, the show concludes and he takes a bow.

The women are cheering their appreciation as he collects his clothes and throws a kiss. Money is exchanged and it must have been a bundle if Juan David’s bulging eyes were any indication. The women are so happy and Doris was thrilled. Juan David doesn’t seem to think the performance was that difficult as they get in the car so he can drop him off.

Carolina dries her tears as the partygoers return to the inn. Doris is positively glowing. She tells the women to please be quiet because Andres is sleeping. Trinidad can’t interest the women in tequila; they are tired and ready for bed. Carolina cries to Juanita…

Uh oh. Hugo and Manuel are cleaning up when seductress wannabe Diana returns. When Hugo gets on the floor to retrieve something she joins him and puts her hand on his face. He removes it and starts to get up but she stops him. She leans in and kisses him. It takes a second but he breaks away and stands up and firmly asks her to leave. I think she says it’s only a few kisses not marriage. He again tells her to leave. She does but not willingly. Hugo sighs and gulps, looking uncomfortable.

MONTEVERDE #38, Part 2

The stripper seems to have put Angelina in an amorous mood. She and Juan David head off to the bedroom.

The next morning, Juan David gives Hugo back his car keys. He shows Hugo some “moves” which sadly are awkward rather than alluring. Hugo sort of smiles.

Carlos gives Padilla his instructions.

Rodrigo shows up and Lucia is curt. He argues again what a great opportunity she has but she is not convinced. I believe he says he is leaving the next day. (If only!)

Rosalia comes upon a downcast Lucas. She asks what’s wrong; he snaps at her then pulls her down to sit. He tells her the news about his father. She seems pleased his father is from Mexico; perhaps that information will help him find his mother.

Juanita and Hugo mop and talk about Carolina and the imminent danger from Carlos.

Oscar drops Moises off with Carolina and Andres. When she finally says she has something important to tell him, he doesn’t have time and is off and running!

Julieta and time waster Rodrigo talk. (Was it anything important? It never seems to be with him 😊)

The next morning, a hungover Doris holding her head, is eating as Diana seems to tell Juanita something happened with Hugo. Juanita marches off, furious.

Padilla comes into Manuel’s and Gloria, sensing a higher-end client, seats him immediately. Juanita comes out and he starts flattering her.

MONTEVERDE #38, Part 3

Lucas, Franco and another ranch hand tell Oscar there is something wrong with one of the animals (I couldn’t say exactly what, was it a difficult birth?) All of a sudden Nestor materializes and tells Lucas to come with him. It seems Nestor has saved the day. Oscar pulls out his wallet and pays him saying they are not friends.

Gloria brings Manuel out to meet Padilla who is giving him some sort of story as Juanita glares from behind the bar. Gloria prattles on about Angelina as Doris tries to get her to back off. Manuel finally leads Gloria away.

Lucia delivers a delicious looking vanilla iced cake when Eva waylays her. She tells her she is with Nestor but complains Franco does not approve. Lucia has to tell her she and Franco are no longer together, which surprises Eva. She updates her about Rodrigo and perpetual problem Julieta.

Padilla sees Moises and Andres and recognizes Andres from a picture. In yet another instance of bad timing, Carolina comes out and the jig is up as Padilla stares.

Julieta has taken her plaid shirt off and confronts Franco. I understood little but I thought she confronted him about proposing to Lucia.

Padilla hurries off as Carolina looks after him nervously (as well she should).

In another discussion I had difficulty with, Lucia talks to Rosalia asking her opinion, should she stay in Monteverde where the love of her life is despite the situation with Julieta. The rest was lost on me.

Padilla goes to Manuel’s and asks about the kids; motormouth Manuel says Juanita is Andre’s tia.

Rosalia confronts Franco as he shows her his hand. Eva arrives; Franco is cold and calls her Senora. Rosalia gives her a packet of medication.

Padilla finds the famous gate and is forced to scale it to get cell phone service. As suspicious Moises watches, Padilla calls Carlos! Ahh, but sharpshooter Moises pulls out his slingshot and the rock hits Padilla right in the leg! A furious Padilla advances only to hear the click of a gun as Oscar hoists his rifle up to the back of Padilla’s head!

I thought the party was a lot of fun. I wish we’d seen Juan David in action but it looks as though we are going to have to wait a bit! I’m fed up with oxygen waster Rodrigo and I just want him gone! I guess there is a sliver of hope as Padilla wasn’t able to connect with Carlos but things look grim with discovery inevitable.

Can’t wait till tomorrow!

Liz, once again, your recap was fabulous. You've done so much already and as I'm not sure if the rest will be recapped, I thought I would chime in now.

The walls were closing in on Hernan, no surprise he took a powder. Melina is not taking it well and I'm happy for anything that causes her pause. She feels invincible though and I can't wait for her downfall.

I felt badly for Tino, surely his father's cruel use and treatment of him were devastating.

I think Circe loves Checo and Edith is a momentary confusion...

"Gisela is saying Melina was Hernan’s partner when she walks in and denies it". Gisela always knew Melina was poison...

MONTEVERDE Extras parte 1

Thank you, Diana.

Carlos tells detective Padilla to be very careful in the way he handles Juanita because it will not be easy to get any information out of her at all. Next, he has to take care around the townspeople who are very strange as well as the priest who is a real weird guy. Carlos doesn't really care about finding Carolina. He wants him to focus on finding Andrés. He has a hunch they are very close to finding him.

Oscar wonders if the lack of excitement about the school on Carolina's part is because with the inauguration of the school, her life as a nun will be ending. She tries to convince him that doesn't regret her decision and the only thing she wants is to be with him. He can only see the school bringing happiness!

Lucas concludes that his grandmother must have had a reason for not telling him who his father was.

Rosalía tells Julieta they are having a bachelorette party and since she is not invited, she can vacate the premises immediately. Julieta answers with a smile and wishes them a good time which just galls Rosalía.

Moisés concludes that Andrés' father is a thief and asks his father why he can't adopt Andrés like he did him. Oscar would not hesitate but then reminds him that Andrés has a mother who will be coming back for him once she clears up her own situation.

Manuel has put Gloria to bed with a movie and she is asleep!

Diana mentions to Juanita that she prefers Hugo over the stripper. Juanita reminds her that Hugo isn't leaving her as she has told her already! Watching the stripper performance, Hugo tells Manuel he could do the same thing. Manuel thinks not. Hugo has no rhythm.

Carolina tries to explain to Moisés why kids cannot go to the bachelorette party. It is for adults only, it is going to get over really late and he has classes earlyy. He really wanted to go. . .

The stripper offers to help Juan David to get his own stripper business going.

Carolina explains to Juanita that she is drinking her mezcal because she is upset: the school is finished! Her time is up and she has to tell the truth.

Diana says she came back because she left her pashmina shawl behind. . . She makes it clear that she could be interested in just hooking up and nothing serious.

Angelina tells Juan David how much she was impressed by the stripper. He was, too.

Juan David gave Octavio the stripper Hugo's cellphone number so he can call him when a stripper job comes available for Juan David. Hugo asks why his number. Juan David doesn't have a cellphone and he will need Hugo to drive him when a job comes available. He is planning on paying Hugo a commission. Hugo smiles and agrees to do it.
 

MONTEVERDE Extras parte 2

Carlos is going back to Mexico City to take care of business as detective Padilla goes to Monteverde. The detective is confident he will find his son and will call him with any information he finds out.

Lucía tells Rodrigo that Franco proposed to her but she turned him down. She loves him but couldn't accept after what Rodrigo did to her. It isn't the right time yet. BTW, she isn't in Monteverde just for him. She likes the place, has friends who appreciate her and enjoys making pastry. He wants to know what to tell Gastón who just sent his proposal. He is offering her the job of agency director making 50,000 pesos ($2,788 a month) plus benefits. It is what she always wanted. She agrees but that was before. Now she values other things a lot more. He tells her to think it over and let him know tonight. He is leaving tomorrow.

Juanita explains to Hugo the whole Carolina dilemma and how the school being finished enters into the situation. She hopes that school never opens up. Hugo pauses as he considers what she just said.

Gloria offers to do the breakfast dishes since Manuel has to go to work. . Manuel thinks she is a delight and nothing like what people say about her. She becomes defensive asking what people are saying. He trieis to smooths it over answering not to pay any attention to what he says as he maneuvers his way out of the room. It doesn't work as Gloria follows him and demands to know what people are saying about her! She tells him he cannot hide out in the bathroom!

Oscar tells the boys that he has a surprise to show them that afternoon.
Oscar has to leave because he is concerned about a mare giving birth. They can talk later.

Rodrigo tells Julieta that Franco proposed to Lucía but she didn't accept. He thinks she should take advantage of the situation.

Diana asks Juanita who Hugo is going out with. She answers nobody. Diana tells her how she planted a big kiss on him the night before but she didn't get the positive reaction she expected. Juanita suggests that maybe he didn't like the kiss. Diana sure that he did. She kissed him because men like women with initiative. She thinks he is shy. She likes those kinds of guys who bring out her savage side. Doris says her sister is "sick" (perverse) and a go-getter!

Detective Padilla tells Gloria that he is a writer doing research in town.

Oscar gets the bad news that his mare Catrina is worn out and unable to deliver her colt that is in a bad position. Oscar insists they can handle it on their own. Out of nowhere, Néstor magically appears saying he heard that Catrina was having problems. Oscar says he no longer works for him. Néstor knows that but cannot see the horse dying for a lack of veterinary care.

Detective Padilla tells Gloria and Manuel that he writes "novels of manners" which tell of the customs in different areas. He is there to do research in Monteverde. Gloria sits down and starts to tell him her own story of being a selfless mother who left her own comfortable life . . .

Eva advises Lucía not to let too much time go by before getting back with Franco. She is sure that Julieta is going to take advantage of the situation doing whatever it takes.

Néstor tells Oscar that he owes him nothing for his services because they are friends. Oscar says that is the problem. They are not friends.
 

MONTEVERDE EXTRAS parte 3

As for the proposal, Franco tells Julieta it is none of her business and not to get involved. She feels it is all her fault. No, he doesn't want her to talk to Lucía. She only has to be concerned about her baby. They both are excited about being parents even if they are not together.

A worried Carolina asks the boys who the man was. They do not know.

Rosalía tells Lucía that she doesn't know what she would do and wouldn't want to influence her anyway.

Detective Padilla now has a new name Antonio Flores. Manuel has plenty of stories to tell him for his upcoming book. He says he saw a nun. What does she do here? Manuel says it is Sister Celeste. Padilla thought it was odd seeing her in town. Is there a convent? Manuel tells him about her coming with a group of women who wanted to start new lives in Monteverde. As for the boys he saw, Manuel tells him that Andrés came with his aunt Juanita. Suddenly Padilla needs to make a call. Manuel directs him to Oscar's.

Rosalía tells Franco how he messed up things with Lucía by proposing to her. He knows but now needs her to take a splinter out of his hand. Eva barges in asking for an acetaminophen for her headache. She invites Franco to supper to talk. He tells her not to waste her time.

Oscar tells Padilla "Don't you dare!"
 

MONTEVERDE

Jarifa, thank you for crystallizing all of last night's events and doing it splendidly as always.

"The stripper offers to help Juan David to get his own stripper business going". Juan David hasn't even dipped his toe in his new career yet (so to speak) and he already is going solo!? This is going to be fun.

"Rodrigo tells Julieta that Franco proposed to Lucía but she didn't accept. He thinks she should take advantage of the situation". What a rat...(no offense to rats!).

"Eva barges in asking for an acetaminophen for her headache". She has asked Rosalia for other and/or the same meds, is this a red flag or am I overreacting??

Will Nestor continue to be a pariah or is there a way back??

Loved "Oscar tells Padilla "Don't you dare!" I cannot wait to hear the ensuing conversation.

Another great episode with our characters who are a very complicated bunch.

I loved that Néstor would not let a horse suffer and die with her colt. He gets one lonely "thumbs up" from me.

My favorite scene was Moisés with his trusty sling shot and papá Oscar not letting Padilla lay a hand on him.

I, too, cannot wait to see Juan David in action. Loved how he roped Hugo into being his driver and his contact. That means that Hugo will be that much closer to the stage himself.

Here is hoping that Oscar prevents Padilla from making any phone calls from his property.

Liz, that was a great recap that captured every twist as the plot turns and the villains are starting to be outed ! Yay! Can't wait to see the wicked fall one by one .
Uli didn't have much of a storyline this season .
Chofis has Chofis has been the voice of reason amongst the youth . Jeni was taken in by this family, but she has not Been grateful or helpful . She is a viper in their nest.
Has just gets mire and more abusive to the twins and Prisma. I think Prisms is finally opening her eyes to this crazy, dangerous guy.

As promised, some retroactive recaps. I don’t know if subsequent recaps can be this detailed - it’s time consuming! I just write what I remember, sometimes out of order. My Spanish is intermediate level and subject to mistakes, so please correct mistakes and fill in blanks!

Capítulo 10-11 blended together with maybe a bit of 12 - PART ONE

We resume with Domenica bickering with Luis about the tearing down of the fences that keep her cows from getting water from the Laguna. He warns her that he won’t be letting it happen again.

And he’s right; he and Prudencio are waiting with rifles when Genero and his men saunter up later to bust down the fences to water the cattle. There’s a kerfuffle, and later Generó shows Domenica a bullet hole in his hat and says Luis did it.

It’s a lie, Genaro shot his hat himself and also shot one of the cows (!!!!sadistic desgraciado!!!!) to pin it on Luis. Domenica is outraged at Luis. Later there is a conflict between Domenica, Luis and Generó and Luis is incredulous that Domenica believes her sketchy foreman; she replies that she “trusts her people.” But privately to Generó she says she’s not assuming he’s always telling the truth.

There’s also a thing where Luis wants his men to be armed and not allow anyone from Domenica’s side on their property - that lady is loca! So, tensions are high.

Godfather’s son Ernesto (I call him Cute Lawyer) is planning on coming to the hacienda but they have to get a few things ironed out in the city first - establishing where the boundaries are between the two haciendas, and also to officially change the name of the hacienda from La Joya to La Abandonada. Cute lawyer first thought that was a joke, but she’s serious, so he’ll take care of it.

(It turns out that nobody is able to get concrete evidence about where the land borders are, which frustrates Domenica.)

Also Domenica wants Cute Lawyer to calculate back pay, with interest, for all the work Pedro did unpaid. She’s not letting that injustice stand; she was indignant when she found out how long he went unpaid.

Meanwhile, Pedro is really thrilled he’s going to get paid, even though he was always happy enough to just have three hots and a cot for a day’s work.

Generó is pissed, knows it makes him look bad that he took advantage of Pedro like this for so long (though he has some BS excuse to Domenica about why he let it go on). Privately, he threatens Pedro, calls him a “nobody” (this is a recurrent theme) and demands half of Pedro’s future pay. Pedro is fed up with this bad treatment.

Which is why, when he visits Luis’s hacienda later, he accepts their offer of a job. They treat him well and like he’s a real person!

Domenica is disappointed when she hears Pedro is leaving; she assumes Luis only offered him a job to annoy her, but she accepts Pedro’s decision. Generó is not so accepting and privately threatens Pedro, and also (I think) threatens harm on Nieves, unless he keeps his mouth shut.


 

DOMENICA episodes 10-11 part 2

Luis has money problems regarding keeping and maintaining the hacienda - his mom is worried and wishes he’d just sell the hacienda and be done with it. In fact, she meets a manipulative and obsequious Kiara who assures her that she’s “not like Domenica” and offers to try to convince Luis to sell the hacienda. I think Kiara just wants to get closer to the cute doctorcito.

Domenica rides her horse over to Luis’s hacienda, challenging the armed guards to shoot her in the back if they’re so inclined - of course they don’t.

She delivers a check for Pedro’s back pay. What’s fair is fair - he earned it. Luis cynically comments that Domenica is only offering the check because she doesn’t want to get sued! She rolls her eyes like whatever.

It turns out it’s for a MILLION pesos (about $33,000 US dollars I think?). It’s for 7 years of labor. Pedro is ecstatic and Luis in shock. That sum seems too high just to try to avoid a lawsuit.

Long story short, Pedro wants to invest his million pesos in Luis’s hacienda. This will help their money problems considerably! Luis and Mercedes strongly advise that he use the money wisely, save it, invest it, buy necessary things, but Pedro is adamant and also feels like it is a wise investment for his future. Finally Luis agrees and Pedro says, “So I’m your socio (business partner)? I own part of a hacienda! I’m no longer a nobody! I’m no longer Don Nadie or Pedro Nobody!” He dances around, elated, and hugs Luis. It is a lovely scene with this sweet young man.

Meanwhile, Prudencio’s granddaughter gets a message from Osvaldo that he wants to see her. She sneaks off to see him at his place. Without getting into it all, he pressures her to “show” how much she cares for him, she balks as she is not ready, he pressures her more, she naively relents, but her virtue is saved by Gossipy mom walking in. Mom blames the girl for trying to “trap” her son with a baby. Gossipy mom treats the girl terribly and Osvaldo just throws her under the bus, coward that he is.

Prudencio’s granddaughter gets into an argument with Prudencio - she accuses him of being over controlling when he warns her that her reputation will be smeared in town because of all this.

Prudencio is so hurt by her words and he confides with (I think) Luis that he can never replace her father, that he’s failed, and that he’s “just an old man.” He says he has a choice of letting her have her own way (so she’ll love him again), or alienating her in order to protect her from ruining her life. He’s so despondent that he says he’s going for a drink, but Prudencio doesn’t drink!

In the evening Domenica and Kiara decide to go into town (can’t remember why) and have drinks at the cantina. Coincidentally Luis and a drunk Prudencio are there too.

Gabriel, who also sings at the cantina, introduces his “new song based on the events of our beloved town.” It turns out to be an incredibly cruel song mocking Domenica, telling about how she was stood up at the altar and scammed out of millions.

Prudencio and Luis look shocked. Kiara switches from smirks to slightly upset. Domenica fights back tears, but defiantly gets up on stage to say that the people in town think they’re hurting her, mocking her, but she’s stronger, she’s gonna wear the abandonada thing like a banner, and essentially, screw you. She also tosses paper money at Gabriel as his tip (propina).

Somewhere in this episode Kiara asks her friend again if there is news about the pregnant lady that she hit; the friend doesn’t think so. Kiara says at least the lady lived, the baby died but the baby’s life “doesn’t count.” Even the friend says that according to the law, the baby does count.

They also say something about looking for clues to find that scoundrel Max Langer.

 

DOMENICA episodes 10-11 part 3

There’s also a thing about the ring found on the scene when Luis’s SIL was hit. There’s a security guard who witnessed everything and thinks it belonged to the car that hit her - police aren’t interested, so Luis has this ring (which of course is Domenica’s ring that she tossed away the day of the wedding but Kiara picked up). Luis thinks this ring is an important clue to who killed his unborn baby.

**The cantina song scene was at the end of episode 10, but I may not be telling all the events in order and there will be some blurred edges between what happened in episode 10 and 11.**

We return to the cruel cantina song. Luis is so angry that he punches Gabriel and a fight ensues. Prudencio is drunk but backs up Luis. The major parties leave, Gabriel and the rest of the people at the cantina resume their festivities, etc.

In the middle of this episode somewhere we have Prudencio meeting with Nana (Nicolesa?) at some bridge or whatever. It turns out they had a thing, were sweethearts, back in the day. Prudencio says he never found love (though he does have a granddaughter so he was married?) but whatever - they had a thing back then and still seem real sweet on each other.

Padrino (Godfather) surprise visits Domenica - he’s recovering from heart issues and isn’t supposed to stress himself by making the long drive, but he says he’s just going where his joy is, which is her, so it’s all good. Later his son Cute Laywer (Ernesto) arrives to see his dad there.

So now everyone is with Domenica and they’re staying for a while! Domenica is surrounded by her loved ones.

Genaro is bickering with his business partners, Gabriel and the presidente municipal, because (I think?) Genero isn’t trying to push Domenica out as much as before - I think because he assumes he’s going to “tame” her and end up being the “dueño” of her hacienda eventually. Also, he’s thinking that she’ll buy Luis’s hacienda so they’ll have access to both properties to benefit their “businesses.”

Somewhere in this episode Genero decides he’s got to make a drastic decision in order to establish things with Domenica - he turns in his resignation because he’s so “hurt” that Domenica doesn’t have full confidence in him. It’s a bluff, of course. Domenica isn’t falling for it as he’d hoped, she says that if he wants to go, who is she to hold him back? But, she’s willing to keep him on - so he jumps at that. She asks him a favor, which turns out changing the big sign at the entrance of the hacienda - removing the “La Joya” sign to “La Abandonada.” It’s an overnight job.

 

DOMENICA episodes 10-11 (with a little bit of 12 bleeding over) part 3 of 3

There’s also stuff with Genaro working to prepare all the fake invoices and receipts to back up his bookkeeping (Domenica wants to see EVERYTHING). He’s claiming she burned some of this paperwork, but in fact he’s just working to fake documents to cover his theft and corruption.

There’s also a thing with Cute Lawyer who is clearly courting Kiara, who encourages him. Genero is jealous, but she tells him she’s just passing time, Cute Lawyer is family, what are you gonna do, and she thinks he’s corny and too intense.

We have a brief mention of that money that supposedly Tia and Kiara have - but I believe Kiara blew on Max - Tia thinks they still have it and can start a business with it.

There’s also a thing with Domenica focusing on helping the orphanage, she loves the kids there and even if the lose donors (people have lost faith in her businesses due to the scandals), oh well, she’ll just devote more of her income to support the orphanage. She also says she doesn’t think she’ll ever have kids because she doesn’t intend to trust a man ever again, and it takes two to have kids. So, the orphanage kids will be “her” kids.

There’s also a thing where Kiara is shimmying up to Gabriel, being too flirty, pretty much under his wife’s nose, and he’s all for it.

Kiara is disappointed when Luis’s mom Mercedes acts like she’s not as determined to get Luis to sell the hacienda (we know this is because Pedro is now a socio, and Mercedes has a great motherly affection for Pedro).

In another scene, Pedro, who cannot read or write, asks that someone help him write a thank you note to Nana (Nicolesa) for her kindness. Mercedes does this, and also tells him that she will teach him to read and write asap, as he is now a businessman!

As Nana gets the letter, Nieves asks her to read it aloud, as she wonders what Pedro has to say. It’s a sweet letter, and ends with something about, “what I’ll miss most” and Nieves hopes that Pedro mentions missing her. But no, it’s his horse he’ll miss. Nieves is tearful and deeply disappointed and leaves. Turns out Nana lied, in reality Pedro writes very sweetly about how he’ll miss Nieves and is very complimentary.

We end the episode with Domenica deciding to take a swim at a spot where she and her parents visited when she was a little girl - sweet memories there. She swims with no top on. You guessed it, this is telenovelaland, so of course Luis coincidentally happens to be fishing in a nearby spot. She sees him swimming near her, is annoyed, accuses him of spying on her. He “protests too much” and says he’d rather kiss his horse than her. This prompts her to kiss him impulsively, and he responds with complete enthusiasm - so much for preferring to kiss his horse!

Papas #48 part 3

Checo and Edith have officially finished their project. Checo takes a few pictures of her and is ready to talk about their personal lives. Edith says it’s not a good time and rushes off.

Poncho tells Jeni he’s not interested as he’s still in treatment for his STD. She’ll wait but meanwhile they can do other things. His friend comes up as she blows him a kiss and leaves. The friend wants to hear details.

Gisela is sure Melina is involved in the fraud, she did steal her daughter’s husband. Melina says she’s trying to help locate Hernan. Tino defends Melina and Gisela wants the money she loaned them back. Aide says they don’t have it.

Scarlet asks Gisela how she’s feeling. Uli told her Hernan had stolen valuables from her and that they were going out. Is her heart broken. Gisela says no one’s ever broken her heart. They hug and are going out together.

Tino tells Rudolf he feels it’s all his fault for believing his father had changed. Rudolf says he’s not the only person who’s father let them down. His father was violent. Tino gets a message from the band, they’re going on tour. Rudolf thinks that’s great but Tino doesn’t think it’s the best time to leave his family.

Rudolf and Clara Luz go to see the kids. Natalie goes to them right away but Pioe hold back. Soon they’re all hugging.

Nazario is with Melina. She says he’s to blame El Chacal for the murder. His kids will be a success and Maximax can represent them. Melina tells him not .to forget he owes her a big favor.

Clara Luz found the song the twins recorded with Gibron. She’ll ask her boss to produce it. She plays it for them, they’re sound great and are excited.

Jeni comes on to Poncho at home. They’re alone and can do things to enjoys each other. He has to study for the Olympics. She asks him not to tell Chofis about this as she’s her only friend.

The kids tell Clara Luz and Rudolf about how horrible they did at the studio. But Pipe says he’s was calm. They’re proud of him. Prisma comes in and says they have to go, Nazario is on his way. They rush out and Prisma tells the twins not to tell Nazario about the visit. They’re surprised she wants them to lie, but she says just don’t say anything unless he asks.

Serena shows Cheno and Checeto the video they made, with likes and comments. Cheno says they’ll all be famous.

Melina suggests they tell Señor Urbano about the debt and maybe Aide will be able to give her mother some of her loan back. Aide is surprised at the offer.

Papas #48 part 4

Lila and Bill are talking when Paulina arrives. She wants Lila to talk to her brother about the surgery. She has, but the surgery didn’t work before. Paulina pushes, and wonders if Lila has problems with her stepmother and that’s why she won’t talk to Emi. She says fine, she’ll talk to him, and leaves. Paulina thinks Bill should talk Aide into it. He tells her to find out everything about it, risks, etc. first.

Melina suggests she and Íker accompany Tino on his tour. Tino doesn’t think that’s a good idea. Íker goes to do his homework and Melina offers to pay Gisela the money Hernan stole. Tino says Gisela doesn’t even like her. Melina says she feels Hernan used her and Íker to get close to him, so she feels partly to blame. Tino says thank you but Melina tries to pull him in for a kiss.

Circe wants to talk to her friend, who doesn’t want to talk to her. Circe invites her to the cafeteria it she says no, eEdith comes up to them and her friend goes to a group of boys. Rice calls out love is love, it doesn’t matter who it’s with, she then invites Edith to the cafeteria.

Melina got the kiss from Tino, she tells him they have a future together and he should tell his kids they’re in a relationship. He says no, he told the kids they’re were with him for Íker and also because of El Chacal. Melina feels he’s divorced and Aide is probably in a relationship with Bill. Meanwhile Aide is telling Bill it’s too soon and he’s saying she’s divorced. She’s most worried about Uli’s reaction. Gisela comes in thrilled to see Bill. He offers to help her with her problems. She goes to answer the door. Bill wants to do a celebration with the kids singing. Aide says Tino is talking about doing that.

Aurelio is talking to Gisela. He offers ro help her but she has it all under control.

Edith asks Circe about what she did in front of her friends. Circe says aren’t they novias. Edith agrees, she likes woman, but especially Circe. She needs to tell Checo but Circe offers to do it.

Rudolf and Clara Luz are discussing the twins recording. Because of Nazario’s temporary custody they have to be careful. He wants to exploit the kids. Martin comes in and meets Rudolf. Rudolf seems a little perplexed.

Aide is telling Tino about Bill wanting a celebration with the kids singing. Afterwards, Tino tells Melina the song was recorded for the family. Melina says if Aide wants to include Bill, he should include Íker and her. Not for her, for Íker.

Emi wonders why Lila doesn’t want to be around Aide and Tino. She came to talk about the surgery. He’s not sure, it didn’t work before. She tells him he’s always been brave.

Circe tells Tino she and Edith are a couple. If she’s happy, he’s happy. She tells him about her friend Lorena. He says to be patient.

The celebration is about to start. Circe isn’t ready to introduce Edith to the family. They kiss, but rice turns so it’s on the cheek. Edith runs into Checo. He suspects she must be dating someone else, but is shocked when she says it’s Circe. Lila and Emi are trying to leave Paulina to go to the cafeteria. She doesn’t understand why they don’t spent more time with her. Emi says he’s having the surgery. She’s thrilled as they hurriedly leave.

Paulina is seen talking to a doctor. The operation is risky and Emi could become paralyzed. Then we see her talking to a layer. If Emi can’t manage his money she can apply to control it. She’s pleased he said yes to the surgery.

Liz, thank you. A lot happened in this episode , and many evil deeds are coming to light . Will we ever find out what Aide and Tino did , or what Lila thinks they did . Most of this season has been focused on bad parents hurting instead of helping their children .
I suppose we all know that everything will be all right by the finale. I have been wondering if this season had different writers than the first season . I think the first season made More sense . Susan

Diana, excellent point about Eva asking repeatedly for something for her headaches. It is also odd because she is asking basically for a tylenol and yet has none? Something doesn't seem right there. Do the writers want us to notice those headaches? Could there be another reason she wants to make amends? Hmmmmm . . .

Perfect description of Rodrigo being a rat. Will he ever be gone? Tomorrow cannot come soon enough.

I was confused about who Ernesto and Padrino were. I thought that Padrino was Kiara' s father . Is Padrino married to Kiara's mother ? I guess nasty, jealous , scheming Kiara's mother is Domenica's aunt , and the two girls were raised together by Kiaras mother when Domenica's parents died , and Dominica inherited their money . Kiara and her mother have been living off Domenica's wealth all these years. Kiara pretends that she loves Domenica like a sister, bit she is jealous of her and despises her . Kiara set Max up with Domenica . She loved Max , but that grifter deserted her, too. Why did the aunt and Kiara move to the hacienda? Susan

I don't believe she knows she is sick (if indeed she is) but I've thought all along there would have to be some powerful reason if she and Franco reconcile.

Elvira, I just read your excellent third recap . Is Nana the woman who lives with Domenicas's family and seems to usually support Domenica? I wonder why she didn't tell poor Nieves that Pedro asked about her . I remember that at some point Pedro fought with Gabriel's slimy son when he came home with the pretty granddaughter . I still get confused with the names .
Goodhearted Pedro saved Luis's mother from quicksand , so she took him under her wing .
Kiara likes men . Her mother has become a screaming mimi. I think she is married to Padrino who seems to really !ove and support Domenica.

Susan, I thought padrino was Kiara’s dad too, but he appears to be Domenica’s dad’s best friend; he is her lawyer and some sort of advisor or advocate. Ernesto (cute lawyer) is his son, and a friend of the family, who also does work for Domenica.

It’s been emphasized that Pedro is an orphan that was (I believe) found in a tomato crate. I’m not giving spoilers (because I’m only up to the middle of cap 14 and am writing the recap for that now) but we can easily guess that Pedro is Luis’s dad’s illegitimate son, whose mother died in childbirth. There was a scene in some prior episode where Mercedes refuses her husband’s plea to raise his second son after baby momma dies. Mercedes just can’t do it. She now feels guilty, wondering what happened to the kid.

All the foreshadowing suggests that Prudencio knows all this, is keeping quiet, and is waiting until she’s ready to find out what happened to that kid.

The thing that gets me is that Mercedes didn’t demand that her husband abandon the baby in a tomato crate - what the hell happened? Couldn’t the husband set the kid up with some sort of support, like boarding school or something? Or did he die before he could do that? Or maybe he did send money for support, but after he died the support ended and the kid was dumped?

In any case, it is really played up that Pedro is a “nobody” with no parents, and no status, so him being a socio with Luis really affects him. I’m so looking forward to the truth being revealed; you know that kid has a heart of gold and won’t hold any resentment (though in the episodes I’m recapping, Mercedes does fear that).

I think he and Prudencio are some of my favorite characters. Nana, yes, she was some sort of nanny for Domenica and since she spent time in the hacienda and knows stuff (and had a thing with Prudencio) I think she worked for the family for a long time.

I think Tia’s husband is dead, and Tia and Kiara are from the poor side of the family (Domenica’s mom’s side). Tia was like a mom to Domenica when her parents died.

I suspect Nana might know that Pedro and Nieves might be half-siblings or some other TN secret that makes them incompatible. I can’t think of any other reason for her to hide from Nieves that Pedro mentioned her in the letter.

Padrino was Domenica’s father’s best friend. Tia is her mother’s sister. In an early episode, IIRC, it was clear they didn't live in the same house. Maybe just good friends united in support of Domenica.

Tia loves Domenica but assures Kiara that she is her daughter and her joy. Kiara is just a jealous bruja. She’s always saying that her mother favors Domenica; I think partly that’s true, simply because Domenica is a nicer person - what’s not to like?

It’s also been mentioned a few times that Kiara has been set up in various careers, but she always quits halfway through and won’t stick to anything.

Tia and Kiara (and everyone, really) came to the hacienda primarily to hope to convince Domenica to come to her senses and return to the city. Domenica made it clear she’s sticking with the hacienda and hopes to make it grow and be successful.

There’s something about Domenica wanting to sell the mansion in the city, along with many other properties and businesses, which means the family couldn’t stay in the city anyway. Tia keeps on mentioning their “patrimony” money, from the sale of an apartment (?), which I think was about 6 million pesos ($300,000 something US dollars?). Which we know Kiara gave to Max. Tia thinks maybe it’s time for them to stop mooching off of Domenica (though in know Domenica doesn’t view them that way) and support themselves by starting a business.

There’s stuff I’m missing, details I may not be understanding, so hopefully someone more fluent than me can clear some of this up as we go along!

Love the actor playing Prudencio..Albert Estella . He has been in many novels . He is excellent at playing both good guys and villains , but I prefer to see him as a good guy because he is always funny and enthusiastic . Diana is also a fan of his . In " Passion" , he was Fernando Colunga's bff. They were "good" pirates , and Alberto was so good in that role . The mean cafe singer who sang about Domenica being abandoned was also a good pirate in " Pasion" , and he just played Fernando Colunga's right hand man in " Count of Monte Cristo."

My sister is a big Alberto Estrella fangirl. She thought he was amazing as the slimy “Molestache” in Lo que la vida me robo. I tend to agree, and he’s great as Prudencio too.

I’m translating this show for my sister as I watch, since she doesn’t know Spanish, and am toying with us watching Pasión in the near future since it has such a great cast!

I get a kick out of people just throwing away big diamond rings ! When Luis and Dominica finally get together , he's going to think Dom was driving the car that hit his sister in !as and caused his baby's death .

Elvira, In the past few,years, I have rewatched my three favorite telenovelas,.."Alborado" , " Amor Real", and "Passion" They were just as good as when I first watched them . Many of those actors went on to many more shows. Susan

Susan, I think after Domenica was jilted and had much of her fortune stolen, she decided to go to her family ranch to make a new start away from all the scandal. She will eventually find out that Genaro has been working against her there. She has found that their ownership papers aren’t complete. LuisFe has the adjacent ranch and they both claim some of the land. His wife just passed away and his daughter, being carried by his wife’s sister, was killed in the car accident that Kiara caused. His ranch has serious financial issues. He needs to make it work. That’s why they are going ahead and planting some of the disputed land, hoping they will win the court case! Everyone does seem to be turning up in the country. Lawyers, investors, seem to be following the trend!

Kiara was in love with dastardly con man Max , and they conspired to have Max court Domenica and marry her. He had defrauded other women in his past. Kiara planned to run away with him after they defrauded Dom out of her fortune . For some reason , he didn't marry Dom , and he ran off from both Dom and Kiara. Kiara was really burned that he didn't go through with the plan . I don't know why he didn't go through with Kiara 's plan . I guess he is off defrauding other women. Susan
 

Papas #49. Part 1

Uli is on his computer, either before of after next scene, saying something about sometimes you can use the cloud to trap someone..

Tino plans to just take Íker to the event. Melina doesn’t understand why he’s not taking her. He explains it might be uncomfortable four her, he just got divorced and his kids aren’t ready for this. She thinks he’s worried about Uli’s reaction. She asks Íker if they’re just going to leave her and Íker says we can’t leave my mom alone.

Checo wants to talk to Circe. She guesses he’s talked to Edith. Edith shows up, and she says she invited Edith to hear them. They’re friends. Edith leaves. Heck wants to talk about her going out with Edith.

Lila and Emi are outside. She says this is the best day. He wonders if she’s excited about meeting Íker or Alexander. She decides this was a bad decision, Emi thinks she doesn’t want to meet her brothers, she says no, that’s not it.

Gisela is at home with Alexander. Aurelio arrives and she thinks her daughter feels she needs watching. She’s not in a good mood but early or late, she will get Hernan and her money.

Bill tells Emi Lila probably had a good reason for not staying. He tells Bill he’s having the operation.

Checo is wondering why Circe decided to expore her sexuality with Edith. He leaves. But Tino arrives, someone mentions he’s with his new family.

At the studio the kids look miserable and Nazario is yelling at them. Suddenly Pipie can’t breathe. Prisma tries to,get Nazario’s to stop, he starts yelling breathe, breathe.

Tino apologizes to his friends for being late. He asks about Lila and they all have a different answer, she left, she never came in, she had a job to go to. Melina asks about Aide and they all say she’s here.

Aide is with Bill as he tells her Emi will have the operation. She says it’s risky. He says Tino will have to give permission. She tells Aide what a great mom she is and they end up kissing just as Íker walks in. He was looking for the bathroom. Aide is upset that Emi and Scarlet will now find out. Bill thinks it’s time for everyone to know they’re in a relationship..

Circe is crying silently but behind her Uli and Chofis are talking. They mention how much fun it was when they sang for their fans. They start feeding each other just as Tino interrupts. Chofis leaves. Uli says he’s sorry he didn’t answer Tino’s texts about the fraud, he was teaching Hernan to use the computer because Hernan said he didn’t know about computers.

Jeni offers Íker food. He says no thanks. Emi is telling Scarlet that Lila was acting strange. Scarlet says she likes Lila but she is strange. Íker joins them. He mentions about his mom and their dad living together, then he decides not to tell them what he was going to tell.

CLara Luz has a surprise, a video of them all singing. Bill and Tino are “after you”, no after you, when Aide goes to see the video.

Meanwhile Pipe is having a fit at the studio. Natalia is crying. Nazario tries to give Pipe a pill as he’s screaming. Prisma yells for him to leave him alone.

Circe can’t decide if she should text Checo or Edith. Clara Luz tells everyone about her new job as producer and how great that the kids all got together. She calls Tino and Aide up. Tino says how great that the band got together, he hopes they will continue to get together. Aide agrees the band is still great. She calls for applause for. I’ll who is letting them use the cafeteria. He comes up and says they’ll always be welcome to play there. Then he says love and honesty are important and announces he and Aide are together. Not one kid looked happy, and neither did Tino. But Aide seemed fine with everyone knowing. She takes the kids aside, Uli knew, the younger kids remember when she said they’ll always were the most important. Not to be outdone, Melina has an announcement and calls Tino up. He says they share their house and love.

Papas #49 part 2

Gisela is sleeping and Alexander is carrying a bunch of toys down the stairs. He falls and Gisela and Aurelio come running. He looked unconscious it then he’s fine. Aurelio congratulates her, he was firm but loving. She hopes she’ll convert to a perfect grandmother.

The kids are talking. Circe didn’t know anything of this relationship. Uli is against it, they get along poorly and she’s not honest. She and Tino overheard. Melina is shocked he thinks badly of her. Emi can’t believe his biological dad and his mom are together. Melina tells Tino Íker need him but he wants to talk to his kids. She leaves. Emi says the show was supposed to be about the band but it was about Rino and Aide. And they’ll be more separated than ever.

Nazario is looking up side affects of a medicine. Peisma comes in. She doesn’t think he should force them to sing. Pipe’s attack was the worse one ever and she thinks Clara Luz and Rudolf should visit him. Nazario disagrees.

Gisela is thrilled that Aide and I’ll are starting a relationship. He’s nice, he’s handsome. Clara Luz and Aide agree that the older two will take it better than the younger ones. Gisela mentions her biological children and Aide tells her she has no idea about blended families. Gisela leaves them.

Melina asks Íker how he feels about his parents being together. He doesn’t seem happy and she tells him this is what he dreamed of. He has things to do. Tino feels they shouldn’t have told them all yet. They just learned about their mom. Melina thinks they’ll be fine. Tino wants to talk to Íker and Circe. She says let them process it. They’ll learn about love through their being together. As Tino leaves Melina gets a text to Cindy from Uli.

Circe is apologizing to Edith. She had her family their and Checo was upset. Then her parents announced their new relationships. Edith wonders if that bothered her, she says,of course. Then Laurena walks buy and keeps going when she sees Edith. Circe says that’s her ex best friend. Edith says that’s why they have to make their relationship public.

Íker offers to carry Scarlet’s backpack. She doesn’t need help from a liar. She says he had to know their parents were dating. He denies it. She says he wanted their dad all to himself.

Íker and Cindy are texting. She’s putting off their meeting. He says it’s not that complicated. She wants to know all he wants to do when they meet. She thinks he’s an idiot and is falling in her trap.

Bill wonders why Lila didn’t come. She says she didn’t want to. He tells her he and Aide are together. She’ll work hard and move far away. He says she doesn’t have to and she says that was her plan all along.

Melina and Aide are talking. Urbano is going to loan them some money. Aide doesn’t think they should take it. Melina says doesn’t she want to pay some of her debt to her mother back. Aide says Nazario has to go. Melina says if he goes Rudolf goes. Aide says no, he’s one of the founders of the business. Gisela walks in and Melina leaves. Gisela shows Aide a video of Circe introducing Edith as her novia. Gisela is upset, Aide looks perplexed.

Melina is looking through Hernan’s empty room. Uli comes in wondering if she lost something She’s looking to see if Hernan left something she might locate him with. Uli feels she’s his partner, she says he should write fiction. Then he says that Cheno said no one recovers from a bullet wound as fast as she did. She’s not impressed with Cheno’s knowledge.

Nazario is looking something up on his computer. Prisma suggests he work on the design for Señor Urbano. He tells her to do it, he’s working on something for the kids. He gets a text from Rudolf, they want to see the kids. He says no. Prisma answers the door and it’s him and Clara Luz. He yells at them to get out when there’s another knock. It seems it’s Family Services. They had an anonymous child abuse report.

DOMENICA episodes 12, 13, first half of 14. PART ONE

Things are not always in order and I may have misunderstood a few details; please correct any errors; I want the blanks filled in just as much as everyone else!

We return to the Laguna or body of water where Domenica has decided to take a dip. She took her top off and is peacefully swimming when she sees that “uncomfortable neighbor” (vecino incómodo) Luis Fernando in the water too! She accuses him of spying on her, he protests too much, says he’s rather kiss her horse. This prompts her to impulsively kiss him, a kiss he most definitely and enthusiastically reciprocates.

Then all of a sudden Domenica comes to her senses, says “what am I doing?” and “This is not me!” as Luis looks at her with a stunned, deer-in-the-headlights expression. She says “Go!” and he says “Why?” to which she replies that she doesn’t have a top on and she can’t get out of the water without being seen. He finally seems to come to himself, and almost sheepishly, like a scolded schoolboy, retreats with a meek, “sorry” and “I’m going” (“Voy!”) and swims off.

He dresses but hangs around near the water. He watches Domenica dress (her back to him) from a distance. As she sees him still there, she awkwardly waits as he approaches. He says that now that they’re dressed maybe they can talk calmly. She doesn’t really want to, but does offer an apology for the kiss, which she says was somehow still his fault. This time, he semi-impulsively kisses her, explaining that he “needs to know if what he’s feeling is real.” She initially responds enthusiastically, then abruptly pulls away, making a quick escape.

She’s distracted and pensive back at the house when the others are talking about how they lost donors for the orphanage; this is where she says that she won’t be having kids since that would require her trusting a man, and that won’t be happening. The orphanage kids will be her heirs.

This triggers Tia to get upset. She doesn’t understand Domenica. She complains about this later to Nana, who says there’s lots of ways to have kids. “Yes, well…” Tia says, “it’s not the same if it’s not your own blood.” to which Nana takes offense, saying she didn’t gave blood kids but she cared for and raised Domenica like her own kid. Nana walks off in a huff leaving Tia feeling like an idiot.

There’s a scene where Prudencio’s granddaughter brings him lunch as he is out in the field - his favorite salsa. It’s a sweet moment where she makes it clear that she forgives him and loves him, he says the same, and they hug.

Domenica has a zoom video call with her orphans. They beg her to tell them a story, she’s unprepared, so invents a story that echoes just what happened with her and Luis - he is a beast, she is a mermaid, and he finds her in a Laguna but the mermaid is not sure she can trust him because she’s been hurt before. The kids are lapping up the story.

Mercedes is troubled about something and confides in Prudencio - she worries about her unfaithful husband’s other kid and what happened to him. Husband wanted her to take care of the kid when baby momma died, but Mercedes refused. She never found out what happened to the kid. Prudencio asks gently, “Do you want me to help you find this kid?” She says no, she’ll carry the guilt herself. Her fear is that Luis will never forgive her for “abandoning” his half-brother (to which I think, if there was any “abandoning,” it was the unfaithful husband who did it), and she knows Luis would look for the half brother, and she fears the half brother in turn would want revenge - no, she thinks, better to carry this guilt on her own.
 

DOMENICA cap 12, 13, part of 14 PART TWO

Kiara is trying to capture the attention of the doctorcito Luis, so she visits his hacienda and is present when he returns, distracted, from the Laguna/kissing episode with Domenica. His mom asks if something bad happened, he says no, not bad … and is clearly discombobulated.

During Kiara’s visit, she paints herself to be selfless and self-sacrificing and describes Domenica as selfish and heartless - “but I adore my cousin.” Luis listens carefully to all that Kiara says. Kiara hints that she’s like to get to know the countryside, and Mercedes quickly volunteers Luis to give her a tour. He seems not super enthusiastic but is gentlemanly and they do the rounds. When they get to the Laguna (or whatever body of water), Kiara would like to take a swim, but Luis isn’t up for that. Kiara tricks him and pulls him into the water - fully clothed - so when they return back from the tour, they’re both wet.

Pedro visits Domenica - to thank her for the back pay (which she repeats that he earned), but also to ask her to be his witness for the business contract he’s going to sign with Luis. She is shocked and feels concerned that Pedro’s investing his earnings with Luis.

Just at this moment Luis returns Kiara to Domenica’s hacienda, and Domenica sees them look seemingly very cozy together riding on his horse. Domenica is obviously jealous, but also upset after learning that Pedro is now Luis’s socio, thinking Luis is just taking advantage of him. She comes out to confront and fight with Luis once again.

Domenica is really bent out of shape about Luis’s apparent friendliness with Kiara; she later “forbids” Kiara to have anything to do with him, which of course makes her look super jealous. Kiara isn’t having it and says so, later Tia gets really offended at how Domenica talked to Kiara. Domenica concedes she was out of line, says she already apologized to Kiara, but for some reason this time Tia is not mollified and seriously talks about how she and Kiara maybe should make their own way now and leave. Domenica looks very shocked by this; “please don’t go” she says. She’s always had Tia around and needs her.

I’m going to summarize things kind of out of order and a little faster, because these episodes are very content-dense and full of important details!

Genero is always talking about Domenica as his “mare” and his “hembra” (female) but never to her face - he’s lusting after her, while simultaneously knocking boots with Kiara on multiple occasions. He assumes he’ll “tame” her and get control of all her lands and brags to his socios (presidente municipal and Gabriel) that he’ll be calling the shots soon enough.

There’s a scene in some sort of government building or lawyer’s office, where Pedro signs the contract with Luis. He signs with a fingerprint. Domenica is his witness and carefully reviews the contract, and is impressed by how fair it is; in fact, it is in Pedro’s favor.

There’s a scene earlier in ep 12 when Domenica returns from the fateful swim where she kisses the “beastly” neighbor. She’s wearing this fitted top vest thing that only someone with her figure can pull off - the top few buttons come undone and when Genero sees her, his eyes get big, his jaw slacks, and his neck retracts like a turtle going into its shell. Domenica wants to know what he’s looking at; he says well your buttons aren’t done right, one can’t help but look! She fixes her buttons and yells, “Stop with your stupid crap!” and takes off in disgust. Genero privately opines that Domenica is worth two - no, three - Kiaras!
 

DOMENICA episodes 12, 13, part of 14 PART THREE

There’s also a rumor that gets out (borne somehow, I think, from the drunken night in the cantina where the cruel song was sung about Domenica’s misfortune). Someone jumps to the conclusion that Cute Lawyer is Domenica’s boyfriend, and Genero doesn’t like hearing that at all.

During these various episodes, Domenica is able to befriend Bartolo’s daughter Rosita, and also Gabriel’s daughter Maria. It looks like Bartolo’s wife has also warmed to Domenica, and is very friendly.

It appears that Rosita has also developed a very sweet, age-appropriate crush on Gabriel’s youngest son (Lalo I think) who takes after his sister Maria and wants to focus on education and not on being a nasty brute like his older brother Osvaldo.

Domenica has some good conversations with Maria, who wants to study and have a career, but knows it isn’t an option for women in the backwards, misogynistic pueblo. She looks at Domenica as a heroine, and Domenica promises that the can communicate through email, because Maria risks retaliation (possible beating?) if her dad knows she’s friendly with Domenica.

Pedro is starting to blossom as a socio of a hacienda - he dresses better, is getting lessons on reading and writing, and turns out to be very knowledgeable on hacienda matters, particularly growing crops, and has good ideas and suggestions. He thinks they should grow a crop of beans north of the Laguna (for various reasons), but this region is under dispute with Domenica. (They decide to grow the crops there anyway.)

El presidente municipal takes it upon himself to arrange to get a very authentic-looking deed made of Domenica’s property, with the boundaries conveniently changed to give Domenica the Laguna and the lands north of that. It cost him a lot of effort and hopefully will make things easier as they take advantage of Domenica and her land. Presidente municipal also says that he made sure that no conflicting documents (with the legit boundaries) still exist.

Genaro presents the doctored deed to Domenica with great pride - she is thrilled! It’s legit! This settles it! Cute lawyer is confused because he was just looking for the deed at the capital and found nothing. Genaro has some explanation and cute lawyer seems to accept it.

The end of episode 12 has Domenica and her people crashing a nice celebratory dinner for Pedro at Luis’s hacienda, presenting the deed triumphantly.

Luis isn’t having it; he has a deed too. He shows it, and Godfather is confused, because they both look equally legit. Domenica is stubborn and confident that she’s right and wants to get things settled legally as soon as possible. In private later, Godfather tells her that things can get bogged down and take forever to settle; often land records in el campo are loosey-goosey and hard to pin down. Domenica didn’t realize this and feels chagrined that she was so confident before.

Luis isn’t having it - talking about this with his mom after - he is sure his dad was perfectly honest and his deed is legit. Mercedes seems to look uncertain when Luis talks about his dad’s honestly, so he asks her why - and she finally confesses that Luis’s dad had an affair, which is why she didn’t want to come back to his hacienda, because it carries so many bad memories. Luis is shocked at his dad’s betrayal and very supportive of Mercedes.

During one of these episodes there is this really sweet scene where Pedro tells Prudencio that he knows Prudencio has been surreptitiously making sure Pedro had enough to eat through the years - I think by giving his granddaughter money to give him food - and now that Pedro is a socio he wants to return the favor and help Prudencio out (I think he thinks Prudencio is slowing down because of age). Prudencio is very touched to learn that Pedro always knew what he was doing, but insists that no thanks is necessary.
 

DOMENICA episodes 12, 13, part of 14 PART FOUR

During episode 13 Tia decides she wants to get to that money she and Kiara have, just to see how much there is, etc, since she wants to start a business with that money. Godfather finds out that the bank account is empty. Tia freaks out. Godfather looks at the actual account online to see what’s going on, and it is obvious that the account wasn’t hacked or anything - 6 million pesos were transferred to Max, presumably by Kiara! It is very clear!

Tia rips into Kiara when she sees her; Kiara insists that she was scammed by Max too - he convinced her he could invest it or get her better interest or something, and she believed him. Tia asks why didn’t Kiara consult her first? Kiara just starts screaming that it’s clear that she’s a screw-up and failure, and runs out to escape on a horse - even though she can’t ride well - making everyone think she’s planning on doing herself in.

Tia is distraught and falls for this obvious manipulation, and everyone goes out to look for Kiara.

Kiara’s fine. It’s all an act. She’s on some country road and purposely rolls in a mud puddle and scratches herself (and later hits her head with a rock) to look like she had an accident. Luis, of course, is the one who finds her, apparently unconscious, and brings her back to the hacienda.

Episode 13 ends around this time, but I’m not promising to get everything in order, so there’s going to be some bleeding over between episodes.

Genero asks his buddy Roque (I think that’s the name) to appeal to Pedro to get a job at Luis’s hacienda in order to spy. Long story short, Pedro doesn’t fall for it. He knows Roque is Genero’s friend. When that scheme fails, Genero then punches Roque really hard and says he’s fired - Roque will have no other options but to work for Luis and if they think he’s injured and fired, they’ll have pity on him.

This does work, because when Roque goes to Luis for treatment, it turns out Roque is actually pretty badly hurt (almost broke a bone?) and Luis needs more workers. Luis encourages Roque to press charges but of course Roque refuses.

Later (either in episode 13 or early 14?) Domenica confesses in private to Nana about her kiss with Luis. She said time stood still when he kissed her and she’s confused about how to take it all in. Nana reminds her that there’s only a short step between love and hate.

Nieves is shamelessly eavesdropping to all of this, eyes wide, neck craned, and quickly tells her uncle the gossip. The patrona kissed doctorcito and liked it! This sets him in a tailspin.

I’m not sure of the timeline here; I know that Genero got super drunk and whined to his corrupt socios about his hembra going with an “otro.” He and Kiara had a big fight where she denigrated him and said she had eyes for the doctorcito, to which he replied, dream on, he and your cousin have a thing.

During the later parts of these episodes we see more of Cute Lawyer; he’s going to help Domenica set up a public women’s center in town, to help the women and possibly get them education and support? Anyway, she knows her name is poison in town, so the idea is floated that the center can be put in the name of Kiara, because everyone likes her better and will likely accept the center.
 

MONTEVERDE #39, Part 1

Padilla scales the gate talking into the phone beseeching that Carlos answer him. Then, the rock from Moises’ slingshot is fired, flying through the air hitting him in the leg! As a furious Padilla advances, a warning “Don’t you dare!” (thanks Jarifa) echoes through the air. Oscar is loaded for bear and has pointed the gun mere inches from Padilla’s neck! Padilla apologizes as father and son tell him to get out! Padilla runs like a scared rabbit as Oscar and Moises saunter off.

Oh my! Juan David has his earbuds in as he is practicing some suave moves with his broom (he looks pretty good!) Trinidad comes in and smiles, she likes what she sees.

The lawyer calls Sister Celeste. She says something about the money transfer. Things seem to be moving slowly. Celeste looks grave.

Juan David is paid for his housekeeping gig as Trinidad teases him a bit about what he was doing.

Andres and Moises are in the car with Oscar, heading for the newly renovated school.

Padilla limps into Manuel’s yelling about his not-too-excellent adventure at Oscar’s. He complains about the cell service as Juanita hides behind the bar. He starts asking questions, first about Juanita and then about Andres. Gloria leads him to a table as Juanita hotfoots it out of the bar. Gloria proceeds to talk his ear off.

Juanita tells Carolina what is going on…

Hunky Hugo approaches Juan David and there’s good news. I think Juan David has a gig that night that pays handsomely. They giggle like schoolgirls as they smile and plot.

Juanita and Carolina listen to Padilla and Gloria’s conversation. Smart Juanita takes his picture to send to Celeste.

Uh oh. Oscar and the boys arrive at the school and it’s been vandalized with bold graffiti including a boldly painted “Froilán lives!”

Sad sack Lucas talks with the good father about learning his mother was pregnant by a Mexican not an Italian.

MONTEVERDE #39, Part 2

Oscar asks the boys not to say anything to Celeste. Why not Andres asks? She will be sad is the answer. Moises and Andres both make the zip the mouth throw away the key sign.

Oscar comes to the inn, hat in hand (literally) asking for Sister Celeste. He and Moises take off as Andres finds a seat.

Diana marches into the restaurant and immediately makes a beeline for Hugo, touching his chest with her fingertips. She tells him she likes him as Juanita watches. She goes to kiss him and he pushes her away.

Lucas tells Oscar there is a problem – Nestor is there. I believe he came by to check on the horse. When he appears, Oscar angrily tells him he doesn’t want him at the ranch. Nestor nods once and leaves.

Padilla tries to be polite, telling Gloria her story is interesting as he rolls his eyes the second her back is turned. Manuel checks on him and he lies and says everything is fine.

Juan David arrives at Manuel’s who hands him a bottle. Gloria upbraids Juan David, demanding to know what he has behind his back. It is some craving that Juan David was going to bring back to Angelina (some sort of sauce I think). Gloria takes it and will not give it back to him so Juan David leaves empty handed.

Carolina scales the gate and texts Celeste Padilla’s photo. She knows him! He was the one following her on the bus until she managed to evade him. They put two and two together. Celeste is very worried and prays.

Nestor tells Eva about what happened at Oscar’s.

Poor Father Gabriel laments he never has a quiet moment as Oscar arrives. He tells him about the desecration of the school. He again asks Sister Celeste not be told. Why the good padre asks and receives the same but longer explanation he gave the boys.

Carolina tells Juanita about Padilla.

Juan David has to tell Angelina that Gloria ruined her much anticipated treat. He will be away that evening which she has no problem with.

Juanita leads Carolina into the restaurant. I believe Manuel says Padilla is going to Zacatillo.

DOMENICA episodes 12, 13, part of 14, PART FIVE

When Cute Lawyer and Domenica are in town to arrange things for the women’s center, they see Kiara with Luis’s family in front of a church. (It’s the mass for Luis’s unborn kid; Kiara invited herself along.) Domenica and Cute Lawyer, both being nosy and tacky I guess, slip in the back of the church and hear that it’s a service for Luis’s dead wife and child. She feels SUPER bad that she ever trivialized his pain (in the past, during their arguments, she kind of compared her pain with whatever unspecified thing he said he had gone through). After the service, instead of quietly slipping out before she can be seen (which I fully expected was the most appropriate, but what do I know), she approaches him to offer a sincere, tearful apology. At first he just wants her to go, but then he asks that everyone leave so they can talk privately.

They clear the air - she thought Luis had fed Gabriel the idea for the cruel song but no - he would never do that and in fact punched Gabriel for it. The start to get closer to each other, with moistened eyes, more romantic - and I’m thinking, this is the memorial service for his dead baby and kind of for his dead wife - can’t this wait? But oh well - she tells him she ran away from their kiss because she was afraid she was going to fall in love again after vowing she never would. They are so close to kissing (again, at his kid’s memorial service?!) but are interrupted by Kiara, I think.

During this time, the rest of the group is waiting outside the church and Cute Lawyer introduces himself. Suddenly two neighborhood gossips come up to talk smack about Prudencio’s granddaughter being a cualquiera (hussy) and saying that Osvaldo’s mom saw it all. Prudencio’s granddaughter denies it and is upset, but Cute Lawyer saves the day by telling these ladies that unless they have proof, what they’re doing can be subject to a lawsuit, a fine, possibly jail, and oh yeah, he’s a lawyer. The ladies quickly leave and Prudencio takes the opportunity to introduce his very lovely granddaughter to Cute Lawyer and I don’t think that scene was put in there for no reason.

The gossips quickly report back to Gabriel’s wife what happened with Cute Lawyer and they’re all nervous. Who knew there could be consequences for being vile, toxic gossips?

(Note, one of the actresses who played a gossip lady had a prominent role in Imperio de Mentiras - which also featured Angelique Boyer - she played the unhappy wife of the galan’s brother - the guy who looked like Fidel Castro. It was nice to see all these familiar faces.)
 

MONTEVERDE #39, Part 3 of 3

Lucas visits Rosalia and he tells her about visiting Father Gabriel. He asks her about her father and she doesn’t want to talk. He leans forward to kiss her but they are interrupted by a patient. He leaves looking over his shoulder.

Carolina marches up to Padilla and confronts him, berating him for following her. OMG Juanita pretends to brandish a gun (under a purple cloth). Carolina calls him unscrupulous. He then says he wants to negotiate. He names some outrageous figure; if she agrees he won’t tell Carlos that Andres is in Monteverde. Shockingly Carolina agrees. As Carlos keeps trying to reach Padilla without success, Carolina and Padilla shake on it.

Oscar greets Manuel and goes into a rant. All of a sudden Julieta comes out of the restroom, obviously not feeling well. Oscar is immediately concerned, mentioning Franco. Are you all right. Yes she says.

It’s night and Hugo and Juan David meet up. They are off!

Angelina’s cravings are running amok but after some crackers, her nausea acts up so she takes her bag and leaves the house.

Lucia and Rodrigo have their melodramatic meeting. She does not accept Gaston’s offer; she is staying in Monteverde. She makes it short and sweet, getting up and leaving. PLEASE let this be the last time we see Rodrigo.

Juanita and Carolina try and figure out how they are going to get the money. Manuel is mentioned but the obvious choice is Oscar Juanita says. Carolina has a brainstorm but we don’t hear the details.

Oscar tells Franco he saw Julieta at Manuel’s…

Father Gabriel arrives at the inn to see Mother Celeste. Trinidad goes to fetch her. The father is clearly agitated, what is it she asks? I’m sorry but I didn’t understand what he said.

A few sentences are placeholders sans dialogue. A tough night for translating, I did the best I could.

Liz, you captured the tenure and tone of this frankly depressing episode so well.

"He leaves. But Tino arrives, someone mentions he’s with his new family".
Seeing Aide and Tino both "announcing" their new relationships seemed surreal didn't it? Strange, unsettling and very awkward.

"Íker offers to carry Scarlet’s backpack. She doesn’t need help from a liar. She says he had to know their parents were dating. He denies it. She says he wanted their dad all to himself" was but one fallout; surely there will be more repercussions.

The applause indicated support for Aide and Bill; the silence following Tino's announcement spoke volumes.
