"MI RIVAL"
Looking forward to seeing this upcoming Telenovela.

Donenica Montero (and off topic). (This is Elvira)

I apologize for not recapping the final two episodes until now, just a lot of stuff going on. These recaps will be abbreviated but hopefully I won’t miss the real important stuff because a lot went on!

Off topic: I want to thank everyone for being patient and kind about the recaps, it was an honor to do them and even with some of the developments I didn’t like, I still thought this was a great novela and I’m glad that it has been covered here, for future Spanish students to enjoy.

I wanted to reminisce about how I first found CarayCaray in 2010 during “Soy tu dueña” with my faded bad High School Spanish. The only reason I stuck with telenovelas and kept following them on Univision was because of CarayCaray. At the time, Univision only had Spanish CCs and my Spanish was so poor I never would have kept up with the stories if I was watching them on my own.

I’m telling you this because for the next almost two years, I did very little formal Spanish studies, it was just Univision and CarayCaray. Lots of listening. I felt completely unable to understand anything without closed captions. But that was okay, I had CarayCaray!

At the end of 2011, I tried watching a preview episode of “La que no podía amar” online. It wasn’t showing in the USA at that point. No subtitles. I thought I’d see a bit and then wait for it to show on TV so I could used CCs. However, I kept going. I was shocked by how much I understood! It wasn’t too impressive (I still missed a lot), but it was enough to get the “gist” if the story and follow along without being completely lost. I had no idea I could do that. Improvement and comprehension “snuck up” on me!

Any improvements I made were all from watching novelas. There was no “studying” involved. I had no idea that I had begun to develop an “ear” for Spanish, it was all so gradual.

I’m saying this to encourage anyone who is more of a beginner in Spanish - keep going. You have now idea how much watching content like this will help you down the road.

I honestly didn’t think I’d improved my Spanish at all for that time period. I was just having fun.

With Domenica I learned a lot of new words that will stick with me. Each novela teaches increases my vocabulary. It’s amazing.

That’s my Ted Talk, lol, now I’m going to start the recap! Nos vemos!

Elvira

Domenica Montero - episodes 49-50 - this will be loosely in chronological order but there will be bits not strictly in order because I’m doing the steam of consciousness thing again.

Part One
We return to Domenica telling Luis that she’s expecting Max’s baby, but she doesn’t lead with the rape. When stupid Luis assumes that she had, let’s say, reconciled with Max, she says, “No, don’t put words into my mouth.” But does Luis stick around and listen? Oh, hell no! He slinks off to pout.

Domenica is, again, sick of his crap. When she tells Padrino that it’s all off again, he kind of rolls his head like, “not this AGAIN.”

Meanwhile, Gabriel is willing to spill the beans and reveal all the secrets he’s been keeping - but first he tells the police and the Black Widow that Max’s murder weapon ended up with Kiara! Vaya! Black Widow finds thus all fascinating m, so they want to find Kiara.

Genaro got nasty pesticide spilled over him when he found Omar and Pánfilo (Replacment for Roque) planning on poisoning Domenica’s coffee crop. He needs to find “someone to blame” for this poisoning attempt, so he shoots and kills Pánfilo in the back so all the blame is pinned on him. “You win some, you lose some.”

Genaro runs to the hacienda to inform Domenica and everyone there that he shot Pánfilo and was protecting the hacienda. He has to be taken in to jail and questioned there. He’s locked up there for awhile. Eventually Ernesto (Cute Lawyer) gets him out.

In the midst of all this, Gabriel has told Hermenia, gossip lady, that their divorce will not yield her any economic help — all the properties they worked, actually belonged to Genaro, so if they want to escape Genaro m, they give up everything. He believes their hard work elevated the cantina, etc, so it wasn’t “dirty money,” but Herminia still doesn’t like it.

Gabriel comes clean and reveals all the dirty dealings of his, Cosme’s, and Genaro crimes. There’s a lot to reveal!

Luis is bitter and feels like a fool for trusting Domenica when she obviously “never forgot about Max.” He pouts and cries to San Genis, who also doesn’t understand what’s going on.

Luis is also able to rip into Mercedes, now that everyone knows that Kiara is a snake in the grass. Mercedes initially tries to find some excuse to explain Kiara, but she really can’t. Luis tells her, “Domenica never was your real enemy, it was Kiara.” Mercedes looks confused but also chagrined when he shows her an incriminating video that Tia uploaded to the cloud. “I suppose you’re going to return to Domenica,” she says. He replies that he’s not sure of anything.

Luis leaves for something, so Mercedes is all alone when Kiara comes into the house, begging for help, swearing innocence. Mercedes immediately offers her a nice bedroom with a bath, tells Kiara she’ll help her, encourages her to relax, says, don’t worry about money, I can take care if — the while thing. Kiara acts grateful but rolls her eyes in ingratitude as Mercedes heads out of the bedroom. Then all of a sudden Kiara hears a lock being secured on her door and demands to be let out! Ooos, turns out that Mercedes isn’t as blinded to the truth as we all assumed. She yells at Kiara through the door that she’s turning in Kiara to the police, and that if Max wants to marry Domenica, that’s great! Better than a lying liar who lies like Kiara!

End of part one! More coming in the late afternoon, probably.

"DOMENICA"
Elvira: This was the WORST Gran Final ever. I wasn't impressed!

Domenica

I felt disappointed like I was after last season of Game of Thrones.
Writers and director ruined an excellent novela with last 6 episodes. Only exception is episode 48, which was great.

Elvira, I liked your Ted talk. I discovered caray caray 3 years ago. I can't recall which telenovela I was struggling through at the time but I found old recaps if it and the rest was history. Like you, I rely on the CCS in Spanish a lot, but if the timing is out I'd sync I turn them off, and I also am amazed at how much I've learned in 3 years. My formal Spanish was a quarter of Spanish in college which I took p/f as I was also taking a higher level French course. I got the 2 languages so confused, struggled, got an incomplete as spring break rolled around and my mother and grandmother were literally dying (grandmother from lung cancer on a Tuesday of my spring break, my mother from leukemia 24 hours later). I took the final when I returned and luckily passed.

My formal Spanish education has been via Duolingo. But potranca isn't found in that course! That word will stick with me as I have a mare who in her youth would have been a potranca....

Now to Domenica, I didn't realize that Genero actually owned all of Gabriel's properties he manages. I just thought Genero was blackmailing him for money. Your explanation makes more sense. I was a bit confused about paniflo also. And the premise that one guy was going to manage to poison all those fields of coffee at night was a bit far fetched. I guess technically there were 2 guys, but the first one ran off. Both of those guys I never sorted out their names or who they actually worked for but that plot wasn't a driving force of the show.

Domenic
Elvira , thank you for recapping faithfully to the bitter end . I had such high hopes for this show....Angelique Boyer , Scarlet Gruber, Alberto Estrellas , and many Other excellent actors and actresses , the beautiful haciendas , the gorgeous horses , the scenery .I wonder if Angelique had high hopes, too.

Nobody liked the guy playing Max who had people shooting at him for most of the show . ...we didn't care .

The writers did not create A noble galan.Luis was wishy washy and didn't deserve Dominica . Pedro was more of a galan than Luis . Back in the day , the Galan was good guy, a heroe who stayed true to his one true love.

I don't know what happened . Did the writers have a completed story before filming started , or were the writers doing some last minute , stream of consciousness storytelling as they wandered along ? I blame the writers because with that cast, we should have gotten a great show, but the writers did a disservice to the excellent cast .

The finale was bizarre. Dom finally gets large and in charge which was risky business at this point because Kiki has gone completely BSC. Kiki is rejected by all...yay. Then Mercedes tricks her and locks her in that bedroom , but we know she will slither out ...she's on the roof ..then she escapes .Dom foolishly keeps going after her alone ..dumb ... she goes over the cliff ...she's dead...no she's alive ...now she's really dead...no she isn't . Lazy, silly writing . Susan
