Episode 4

Surprises and Preparations
In Antep, Ferit reminds his mother that the deal was that he gets to keep living his life just the way he has. Apparently Ferit considers Seyran a commoner, who knows nothing, and probably doesn’t even know where Istanbul is. He is very impressed with himself. Pelin meets him in Antep and they share her room.

Seyran and family are busy with lots of preparation. They need to keep things from Suna so not to hurt her feelings. Ferit comes to their home to meet with Kazim. Kazim is less than impressed with his casual clothing, including Chuck Taylor (I think) sneakers. Even so, Kazim is positively exulting about this deal. He states: My daughter is part of my soul.” [That’s the first affectionate thing he has said about either daughter. I’m sure it’s just for show.] He asks if Ferit is going to work, and Ferit doesn’t look at all interested. Kazim recommends going to his tailor to get suits to wear to work, apparently hoping he will stop wearing his casual clothing and get a job. [This is funny to me, because I think Kazim doesn’t produce much himself and just keeps selling off his land, IIRC. But he does dress for business.]

Ferit and Seyran go out for a bit, with Abidin driving and guarding. Ferit thinks she is flirting because all the girls he meets are so impressed with him. Abidin watches their banter where she gives as good as she gets. Ferit thinks she must be ecstatic as any girl would be to be marrying him. She points out that his money and last name mean nothing to her. She is interested only in character. Later Abidin tells her he was worried about her, but now he’s worried about Ferit. [This made me laugh out loud!] She is strong and not impressed with all this wealth. Abidin tells her Ferit is not that different from her. Neither wants to marry but their families are making it necessary.

Gulgun tells Seyran it’s hard to fit into the Gorhan family. It’s like being a piece of a puzzle trying to find place to fit in. Eventually she’ll find her place. She just needs to keep moving forward.

Halis likes to dictate journal entries to Latif that are elegant, like poetry. These two have a strong and enduring bond. Halis remembers sending Hattuc a beautiful necklace for “the light of his eyes” when they were young. I wonder what happened to their romance. Later we see Hattuc giving Seyran some lira so she can keep up with other Istanbul wives without asking her husband for money at first. Then she gives Seyran the necklace made by Halis to use for special occasions, and if ever in trouble, she should wear it so Halis sees it. [I wonder when that will be! Something to look forward to!]

Suna gives Seyran things she had gathered and made for her wedding including beautifully embroidered linens. Also, she gives Seyran their mother’s dress, very lovely. Suna tells her she can return it to her after. Esme tells Seyran: I hope Allah gives you a better life than I have. [That sounds so sad, but very true in Esme’s case.] Esme, Seyran, and Suna hug. The mother and daughters three-way bond is very strong.

I caught up to episode 3 and then went to watch Lobo. It's fairly easy to watch on my desktop computer. I read dondi's recap mentioning diabetes and didn't remember seeing Ferit being injected by his friend/watcher. Is Peacock showing less? Anyway, Epi#3 cleared that up by having Seyran find his insulin in the glove compartment.

It was a surprise that Ferit dislikes Ifakat. He was delighted she'd returned to Istanbul.

I seem to be missing things. The woman who fell asleep, a servant, is Sultan? And she's in love with Ferit. She looks at least 40.

They sure went through the files to find the most disgusting guy to play Kazim. He has terrible teeth, like fangs, on top of being a horrible husband and father. He weaseled a house in Istanbul out of the Korhans to hand over a daughter? Does Ferit have that bad a reputation?

More confusion. Pelin somehow arranged for Ferit to marry Suna, but got Seyran instead? That's a risky move, that he sticks with her after marrying someone.

I guess I just miss Lejos de Ti. I prefer Cihan to any males in this cast. And, I'm the mother of a son, so I identify with Alya. Maybe these protags are too young for me to care about.

Novelera, I miss Lejos, too. But, Golden Boy really does get better. If you have time, stick with it for a few more episodes. I’m addicted.

Sultan is a servant. The name is misleading. Apparently she has history with Ferit.

Kazim is well-portrayed by the actor! He is awful, but very astute is weaseling stuff from the Korhans. Dondi says his voice in Turkish is even more entertaining due to the local dialect!

Novelera, I'm still confused about Sultan and I'm on episode 14! I did discover last night that Telemundo has English CCS so if this show doesn't get recapped in depth I can cheat. I did that with some of the past shows, especially if I was recapping and wanted to get it right.

I am confused about Pelin having her maid set Ferit up in the first place. Was it to extort money or was she hoping that the demand for Ferit to marry would give her a shot at the position?

golden #3

novelera, I see you prefer the aşiret dizis. The Turks love them. Maybe you have some Turkish blood? Golden has similar themes: transgenerational trauma, patriarchal system, misogyny, forced marriage, abuse, tradition vs modernity, but it’s much more subtle.

Abidin checked Ferit’s blood sugar after he put him in bed. He always does this when Ferit gets very drunk. It’s dangerous for a diabetic.

No surprise Ferit dislikes Ifakat. She’s an extension of Halis. Very controlling.

Kazim is horrible. He’s thrilled about joining the Korhan family and he’s going to squeeze all he can get out of them. He’s selling his land and losing his sources of income. Ferit is a life saver to him.

Kat, Pelin was hoping to be the one that Ferit married. She masterminded the setup, promised to pay the maid. It’s backfired on her. Halis wanted a girl from Antep for Ferit. Is Pelo turning into an obsessive girlfriend like Mine in Lejos? Now she followed him to Antep.

Sultan is another woman obsessed with Ferit. I guess Ferit isn’t lying when he says that the ladies go crazy over him. He’s rich, handsome, and he’s got skills. Only Seyran is immune.

golden #4

Perfect summary, Babachita. Thank you. Nice that we had another episode with no significant edits. But once again there are weird translations.

Ferit did not refer to Seyran as a “commoner”, but I guess it was implied. He wasn’t “starting a new life with a girl from Antep.”

Seyran was surprised to hear that Ferit was forced to marry, just like her.

It’s nice to see a supportive MIL like Gulgun instead of the stereotypical MIL from hell.

Abidin is a voice of reason. He sees everything and quietly speaks the truth.

I will do a summary of #5 over the weekend, after I finish KPA.

Lobo #3 2-19-2026

Here goes - I didn't take notes last night.

Lobo escaped Dante at Antonia's house. (We don't know why Lobo thought to go there, since he had put Antonia's father in prison.)

Lobo decided to move Renata and Berta to Fernando's house. Berta needed insulin, so she was left behind until the insulin delivery came, then she would catch up.

Antonia talked to Graciela and to DA Cruz. A. didn't understand why they thought Lobo was guilty of the killings and kidnapping. Perhaps he was helping Renata. Doubt is creeping in. Dante also tried to steer A. away from thinking Lobo is innocent.

Graciela identified Gustavo's body in the morgue. Flashback - they had an affair. Could be why she was estranged from Miranda. Grac was not allowed to see Miranda's body. Supposedly too many wounds. (Viewers have not seen Miranda dead either. Hmm....

Azufrero brought the actual murderers to Cruz who killed them. Azufrero identified himself as a "capo".

Cocula, who had been the security head at G&M's mansion, tracked Berta to the warehouse through her phone (he had prob put a tracking device on it earlier). He lured Lobo there and demanded Renata.

Lobo

My screen went blank, so I hit "Publish" to see if it would show up. Yes! But I hadn't typed my last sentence:

Cocula shot at Berta. Lobo lunged forward to protect her but likely not in time. Berta appears to be dead. End episode.

I forgot to insert Lobo's dream. He woke up earlier after a dream in which he romanced Miranda (flashback) and then romanced Antonia ( flashback or wish?).
