#34 part 1
Rewind: Seyran refuses to go with Ferit to meet the reporter. He threatens to tell her father about Yusuf.
Song: Yokluğunda/In Your Absence - Ali Atay

Ferit leaves the room and heads to the back of the yali. Seyran cries in the bathroom. Suna gets a text from Fuat: how are you? I was worried about you. Abidin has his phone out and composes a text to Suna: good evening, how are you? He erases it and pets the yali cat sitting next to him. Seyran goes out on the balcony and sees Ferit crying by the waterside.
Ferit wakes up in the morning and Seyran is already dressed. She asks, when do we go? He replies, where? I’ll go with you to talk to the guy, she says. He sits up, smiling. Really? She tells him don’t exaggerate, get up.
This is what I love the most about our relationship, he says, we’ve got each other’s backs, even when we argue. My dear Seyran, I knew you wouldn’t leave me halfway. Seyran answers back, yes, not after the threats to blackmail me. Ferit says, let’s get rid of that Taylan jerk first. Then I’ll tell you a secret. I promise you won’t hate me anymore. I’ll be better.
Seyran says okay. Ferit is surprised she didn’t put up a fight. He asks, where is this sudden kindness coming from? She snaps, what do you want? You asked for help, and I agreed. I’m tired of this, I want it over. Think whatever you want.
Halis asks Ifakat if Suna’s room is ready. Almost, she replies, we’re waiting for some furniture and she went shopping yesterday. Take care of that girl, Halis says, we don’t want to bring shame to their family. Ifakat promises and says, Seyran is a nice girl, but Suna is different. She can be trusted with both a husband and a house. I can’t lie, sometimes I get upset when I see her. I wanted her for our family. Halis considers this. Even though she’s not our DIL, treat her like one.
Latif comes in with Halis’ meds. Ifakat leaves. Halis asks Latif to call Hatice to see if she’s available. Tell her I want to talk to her about Suna. I’d like to meet somewhere. Latif doesn’t look so happy about it, but he says will do.
Seyfer wait in a restaurant. Abidin arrives with Taylan. Ferit assumes Taylan is ready to make a deal and not publish. Taylan nods, that’s what I wanted to talk to Seyran Hanim about. It looks like you’re aware of the situation. Seyran says yes, I think it’s a misunderstanding. Taylan agrees. Seyro answers, but people won’t think that when they see the photos. Ferit adds, you shouldn’t give much importance to it. It was an argument, nothing more.
Taylan asks, what were they arguing about? Seyran jumps in before Ferit can answer. Pelin is in that photo. She’s a friend of mine. Ferit looks shocked and then dismayed. Seyran continues, luckily my husband was there and was able to break it up. The other girl approached Ferit and my friend, Pelin, intervened. You know how friends feel about each other.
Taylan looks amused at this. He questions, Abidin Bey said the girls did not know each other. Ferit says that’s true. Seyran says the photos could be misunderstood. She places her hand on Ferit’s—my husband and I ask you to delete them. [I don’t think Taylan is buying the act.] He responds, is that what you say? Seyran replies, I don’t know what else to say. You don’t have to say anything, he answers smugly, I heard what I needed to hear.
#34 part 2
Seyfer wait for an answer about the photos, but Taylan thanks them and says he has another meeting to get to. They shake hands. Ferit quietly asks, what did you decide? I’ll think about it, Taylan says and leaves. Abi comes to the table and asks what happened. Ferit is angry. Taylan is going to think about it. Seyran says to stay calm, maybe Taylan will agree. Ferit doubts it.
Halis and Hattuc meet in an outdoor café. Halis starts, she’s a smart girl. I hope God gives her a good fate. Hattuc answers, she wanted so much to be your family’s bride, but it wasn’t meant to be. She suffered a lot. If we hadn’t come here, she would have wilted like a flower. Halis understands. Hattuc continues, they say that everything is for the best. I won’t lie, I didn’t want to come here but it was good for our Suna.
Seyran loves her sister, Halis notes, and Suna loves her. Hattuc says that Suna is used to staying at home and Seyran is interested in studying and is more adventurous. If Suna caused trouble, that’s why. She was like a fish out of water. Halis says, it’s not easy to adapt to a new reality and sacrifice our dreams. But that’s life.
Hattuc nods. At least Seyran is building a home with her husband. Everyone should have that, she says wistfully. They both look over the scenic view. Halis remembers, I sent you postcards of this view. Do you remember? How could I forget, she replies. I wanted you to visit, at least once, he says, just once. She answers, it’s not that easy, especially when there’s no one to hold your hand.
They are both getting emotional. Halis says, time… place… dreams… opportunity… Hattuc tearily says there was a time, and there was an opportunity. But it didn’t happen. I don’t know… that’s a question I haven’t been able to answer for a long time.
Halis turns away with tears in his eyes. He turns back—remember that necklace I sent you? The note I wrote for you? “the burden of fate will grow lighter when you wear this”. I felt the weight of my fate crush me, Hatice. That’s why nothing happened. There was no other reason. Hattuc replies, I waited 40 years to hear you say that, Halis.
Halis takes a jewelry box out of his pocket. It’s a bracelet. I’m placing all the dreams we shared in this box. Will you accept it, Hatice? It’s beautiful, she nods, thank you. They look out over the view.
Ferit tells Abidin that Taylan left without a word. He turns to Seyran, why did you have to lie? Why did you say Pelin was your friend? You asked me to convince him, Seyran replies, now this is my fault? Ferit answers, if he does any research, he’ll find you are not friends. You should have let me talk. Have you ever negotiated with anyone?
Then why didn’t you step in, Seyran asks, you just sat there saying nothing. You didn’t stop talking, Ferit says, I didn’t want him to suspect anything, so I stayed quiet. You’re shameless, she replies, you’re trying to blame me for this and you’re ungrateful. I did you a favor. Thank you, Seyran, he answers, but that reporter wasn’t convinced. He will dig further.
Seyran says she thought she could persuade him. Had you been more careful with your girlfriend, this wouldn’t have happened. Abi asks, what do we do now. Ferit tells him to just drive. Seyran asks to go home. Ferit nods.
Pelin is having coffee with a friend. Taylan calls her. The photo I took shows you, too, he says. I wanted to ask you a question before publishing the article. A friend of yours gave me your name. Pelin looks worried. We don’t hear the rest of this convo.
#34 part 3
The Korhans sit in the living room. They talk about the reporter. He hasn’t posted anything yet. Maybe he won’t. Ferit gets a call from Pelin. He tells everyone it’s a friend. He’s not going to answer. He’s not in the mood. Orhan says, good. At least you know this is serious. If that photo is published, we might have to make emergency plans for your future, Ferit. Ifakat advises, you’re both young. You need to get a hold of yourselves.
Ferit is ticked. How many times do I have to say I’m innocent? This isn’t my fault. You have to believe me. It is your fault, Ifakat replies, you went out without your wife. You’re newlyweds. It isn’t right. Gulgun agrees with Ifakat on that point. Ferit shoots back—since when are you on her side? Gulgun laughs. Seyran manages a slight smile.
Abidin comes in with news. The reporter called to thank Seyran for her honesty. He understands the situation and says he’ll act accordingly. Everyone is relieved.
Seyfer return to their room. He’s in full “Ferit Korhan” mode. Ferit Korhan fixed the issue! He’s a genius! Seyran calls him out—so you fixed it? Unbelievable. Listen, he replies, you know you lied. Even if it worked, it doesn’t change that fact. And how did I make it work, she asks. He circles around her and gets flirty. That’s your charm, he tells her, even our own people are on your side. She smiles, they just don’t want to be on the wrong side.
Ferit plays with Seyro’s hair. Okay, from now on, we will go out together at night. I need to tell you something. He admits, I was a jerk yesterday. I’m sorry. I would never tell your dad something that would hurt you. I know, she replies, that’s why I decided to help you. He’s surprised—then why did you argue with me? She says to let it go or they will start arguing again.
Seyran suggests they watch a movie. Ferit is delighted. He gets the laptop and hops on the bed. She goes to the couch. He suggests they watch “Mavi Boncuk” [the movie where he got the idea to roll Suna up in the carpet]. She says okay. Come to the bed, he tells her, we’ll stretch out and be comfortable. She’d rather watch on the couch. There’s a table here to stretch out and the couch is comfortable.
Ferit makes his case. You sit by my side at the table. You walk by my side. You can sit by my side on the bed. It’s the same thing. Come on. She sighs and gives in. He’s got the movie ready. Seyro says, there’s one more thing I wanted to tell you. But I don’t want you to get defensive and argue. I want you to trust me… and I want to trust you. I never lied to you, Ferit. Yusuf did. I want to move forward from this.
It’s okay, Ferit says, all that matters is the present. I’ve given it some thought. Even if it were true, I shouldn’t care. This wasn’t the answer she wanted. He asks her what’s wrong. She replies, if it were true? She gets up from the bed and goes back to the couch. I don’t want to watch the movie anymore. Don’t get upset, he says. Too late, she responds, you need to be more careful with your words. She picks up her phone.
Ferit is disappointed. We’re not watching the movie? You can watch, she says, I’ll listen to music. He sighs, I don’t want to watch either. The whole point was to watch together. He closes the laptop. Then he smiles—I’ll play you a good song. No need, she replies. There is a need, he says, music is life. Seyro playfully mocks, wow, spoken by the famous philosopher, Ferit Korhan. He laughs. They both search their phones and start the same song at the same time. No way! They dance and sing together. [let’s enjoy this brief pause in the marriage war.]

#34 part 4
Next morning, Kazim is at the breakfast table. He’s reading the paper. Suna serves him tea. She sees another paper on the table. She spots an article and photo. It’s Taylan’s. She tries to bury the paper under others. Kazim notices her. What are you trying to hide? An article?
Kazim reaches for the paper and reads: “Yalı Çapkını Gecelerde” (Kingfisher (womanizer from the mansion) in the Night). Ferit Korhan out on a memorable night. Orhan and Gulgun’s newlywed son was out. His wife wasn’t there when he broke two girls fighting over him. One of the two was Ferit Korhan’s ex-girlfriend, whom he defended.
Kazim exclaims--what is this? How dare you hide this from me? He grabs Suna. Hattuc and Esme come. Hattuc asks, what’s going on? He replies, read what your idiot niece was hiding from me. She reads and gasps. God help us! Kazim is livid. Suna tried to hide this humiliating article from me! Kazim looks for his tesbih. I can’t stay here, I’ll go crazy. He rants and blames them for this.
Latif takes the newspaper delivery, brings it to Halis’ room and places them on the desk. Halis says he will have breakfast in his room. Taylan’s article is on top of the pile, but Latif didn’t notice.
Seyran gets a message from Suna: Dad saw the photo in the newspaper. He’s on his way there. He’s fuming. Seyran gets Ferit from the bathroom. She shows him the message. She didn’t see it right away because her phone was charging. She panics. Ferit checks his phone. Taylan tried contacting him multiple times. He didn’t hear the phone. Ferit panics.
Seyran says they need to tell Orhan and we need to stop grandpa from seeing the news. They head to Ferit’s parent’s room and give them the bad news. Article was published in the paper and online. Orhan tells Ferit to find Ifakat. Gulgun looks at her phone. Seyran worries, my father found out, he’s on his way here. Gulgun calms her. We are with you. This isn’t your fault. We will protect you.
Ferit brings Ifakat. Orhan tells her the article was published, keep dad from finding out and tell Latif to come. Ifakat sends Latif to Orhan and goes to see Halis.
Latif asks Orhan what’s going on. Orhan tells him there’s a terrible article about Ferit that’s been published. Dad can’t read the newspaper. Latif says, I left the paper on his desk about a half hour ago. I hope he hasn’t read it, Orhan answers, go to him and make sure he doesn’t read it. Ifakat is with him now. Get the newspaper while she distracts him. Latif is hesitant, citing his loyalty to Halis. Please understand, Orhan replies, Dad’s not well. Could you live with yourself if something happened to him? Latif is uneasy but he agrees to do it. He glares at Ferit before he goes.
Yusuf is in the kitchen having breakfast when he sees the article on his phone. He shouts—no! And that sends Sefika and Sultan hurrying over to him. Sultan grabs the phone from his hands. Dicle and Carlos come over to see, too. Yusuf looks upset.
Latif quietly enters Halis’ room. Halis is at his workbench facing away from the door and Ifakat is by his side. She tries to keep Halis occupied while Latif tiptoes over to the papers on the desk. Latif is about to snatch the paper, when Halis turns and sees him. Latif? Poor Latif freezes. I didn’t hear you come in, Halis says. I didn’t want to bother you, Latif replies. Okay, Halis answers, Ifakat is going down for breakfast now. Can you hand me the newspaper? Ifakat and Latif look at each other.
#34 part 5
Sultan appears in the doorway and knocks. Halis tells her to come in. Kazim Bey is at the door, she says, he’s in a bad mood and wants to speak with you. Ifakat heads for the desk, grabs the papers, and holds them behind her back. Halis gets up. Is there a problem? I’ll be there in a minute. Ifakat manages to leave the room with the papers.
Orhan, Gulgun, Ferit and Seyran are there to meet Kazim. Ifakat joins them. Kazim waves the paper and asks for an explanation. What the hell does this mean? “Kingfisher in the night”. He calls Seyran over to him.
Ifakat steps up. What’s going on here? I’ll take my daughter, he answers, how can I leave her here after such a disgrace? What do you mean, Ferit asks. Kazim snaps back, quiet, Ferit Efendi! You’re the problem here. Orhan calmly tries to explain, it’s just some gossip. A misunderstanding. Let’s sit and talk about it, please.
There’s nothing to talk about, Kazim replies, where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Seyran! I told you to come here. Silence. Ferit looks at Seyran. She can hardly raise her head.
Halis enters. Kazim? Everyone turns to look at grandpa. Orhan approaches Kazim. He leans in and whispers, if my father sees this and something happens to him, you’ll be responsible for it. [there goes the mansion in Istanbul, buddy.]
Kazim quiets down. Halis asks Orhan, what’s the matter? What’s with this shouting so early in the morning? It’s like the marketplace here. Kazim speaks up, I hope you’re having a good day, Ağa. I was just talking with the in-law and we were too loud. Sorry.
Ifakat tells Halis, we have a situation. I’ll explain it in the room. Say what you have to say, Halis replies. She says this isn’t the place. Halis sneers at Kazim and turns to go. Ifakat follows. Orhan tells Kazim they can talk now. Kazim says he only kept quiet out of respect for Halis Ağa. Orhan tells him, you won’t fix anything by being so impulsive. Let’s talk. Gulgun adds, this is all a misunderstanding.
Kazim approaches Ferit. He rolls up the paper. Of course, we will talk about this, son. He taps Ferit with the paper. You’re playing with my daughter’s honor. Orhan calls him off. Should we sit? Your children are valuable, Kazim replies, but my daughters are, too.
Ferit speaks up—that’s an old photo, Kazim Bey. It was taken before we were married. Orhan adds, you wouldn’t listen to us.
Halis is furious. Ifakat tells Latif to get the meds ready. Forget it, Halis growls, tell me what is going on? Why is this man showing up to my house acting crazy? Latif! Ifakat! Speak! Ifakat starts to explain. There’s an article in the paper. What article, Halis barks. It’s about Ferit, she replies, I’ll look for it and show you. She rushes out of the room. Halis seethes.
And we are out.
Thanks so much, Anastasia. I really enjoyed your recap.
We are reminded that Cruz shot the killers of Gustavo de la Colina (and supposedly Miranda, something that is now in doubt) in the back of a pickup truck, egged on by El Az.
I agree. It's becoming increasingly difficult to figure out where the Good Guys are hanging out at any point in time.
The Bad Guys may not have seen the video of Miranda and Gustavo with the piece of paper. I could be wrong (not the first time for sure), but I think there were two videos. One of them is the one that, I think, Cocúla found in the safe. But maybe the other one was by Miranda, and she said that it would self-destroy after the first viewing. I have a memory of this. Not that my memory is always reliable. It seems to me that, if the Bad Guys knew exactly about Tio Raul and where the destination was, why would they need Lobo?
Episodes are running together in my mind. But at one point I thought Lobo told Graciela that El Az and/or Cruz ordered her sister and husband killed. But then she's tucked up in bed with El Az, having nightmares.
Yep, Leonor killing Guillermina was confirmed. We certainly thought so seeing her eavesdropping on Eugenio and Antonia. They let us think for a moment, based on the autopsy, that it could have been the experimental Alzheimer's treatment.
Thanks, dondi, for another very insightful recap. It seemed to me that Seyran changed her mind because she saw Ferit's crying from her high terrace. Such subtlety here; no need to spell it out.
I think Ifakat wanted Suna instead of Seyran because she sensed she'd be able to get Suna under her thumb. And, judging by everything we've seen, I don't think Ferit would have been happy with a submissive wife.
I'm still curious about why Hattuc and Halis didn't marry. Guess we'll have to wait.
Seyran and Ferit are constantly walking in a mine field. I was looking forward to Seyran sitting beside Ferit on the bed to see a movie. But, as usual, he said something (if it's true) that set her off. At least we got the dance!
Watching these dizis makes me grateful every day that I grew up where I did. I have been a free person my whole life, making my own decisions...some of them bad. I just feel like screaming when I see Kazim showing up saying he's taking Seyran away. BTW I loved the parenthetical expression: "There goes the mansion in Istanbul." Orhan knows exactly how to shut him down.
I’m sorry. This deserves a real detailed recap, but I have to rise early tomorrow. Anastasia, maybe you can expand.
There’s some tension between Adela, Hugo, and Adrian. Eugenio notices and talks with Adela about it.
Remedios tries to tell Plácido that Graciela has a thing for Cruz.
Cruz is very hostile with Adela at the Fiscalía. She gets in a dig about his being taken off the de la Colina case.
Renata wants Lobo and Antonia together. She overhears their conversation about how much they love each other and romps in, happy.
El Az works on Leonor. Sué tells Nacho that she chose Pablo.
Lobo learns about the exhumation of Miranda. [I’m confused. I thought she was buried in the back yard where Renata was coming to talk with her mamí.]
Of course, Sué isn’t getting an abortion. They never go there in a telenovela.
Renata asks if Eugenio will be her grampa when Lobo and Antonia get married.
Misael comes to see César. He’s definitely attracted to César, but fears what would happen if his macho father found out.
Cruz and Graciela are in bed again. She tells him El Az protected her. She also later tells him about Gustavo being her lover for years.
Lobo gets a message to go see Tío Raúl. The big twist is that there is no Tío Raúl. Miranda is alive. She tells him about surviving thanks to one Alejandro Antoni. She was in a coma for a while. She also says that Lobo is the only one she could entrust with Renata.
She tells Lobo about Gustavo’s crooked dealings. And that he was abusive. He wouldn’t give her a divorce.
Graciela and Cruz agree that no one, especially El Az, must learn about Miranda being alive.
Novelera: Thank you very much for the recap of last night's episode. My personal thoughts:
*Slippery Cruz & Buji Goldie Locks getting their freak on: What else is new LOL.
*No surprise that Slippery Cruz is openly hostile towards Adela.
*Misael & Cesar better watch their backs if & when El Az finds out.
*Why do I get the feeling there's more twists coming in this chaotic Telenovela ?
*Miranda is alive & well WOW. That was something which wasn't on my bingo cards.
*Percentage odds that Miranda will instigate something to busting up Lobo & Antonia ? 🤔
Episode #36
April 9, 2026
I am only going to comment and add to Novelera's recap above. I put the episode # and date in to have "for the record".
It was an episode with a major plot twist!
First, info on two smaller items. Sue told Nacho that she is back with Pablo to get Nacho to leave. Sue is never, ever, ever going back to Pablo.
Second, Cruz had a love nest apartment! And proved he wasn't impotent. I will say that while Graciela was lovey-dovey during the booty call with Cruz, we did see the scene in an earlier episode where she comments on how men use her, and how she will now use Cruz and Azufrero to get the treasure for herself.
The episode revealed that Miranda was not buried. (And I suspected as much - see my recap of episode #1). The exhumation revealed that someone else was buried in Miranda's plot. The DNA, etc. didn't match. Cruz would have gotten a permit to exhume the body, even from a private graveyard - and Hugo and Adela have access to the legal permits, so they knew Miranda's supposed body would be exhumed. Not a secret, Sr. Cruz. And good thing the body wasn't cremated. Cruz is worried that this mistake in identifying the body that was buried as Miranda's will jeopardized his career. Graciela is worried about her no longer having the legal right to the house and fortune. Gracie and Cruz think that Lobo and Miranda planned the body switcheroo.
The second big reveal is the Tio Raul situation. We wondered who would be Tio Raul, since there was no such blood uncle. As Novelera said, Lobo got a text message to go meet with Tio Raul by himself. Lobo shows up at a ritzy guarded door and is met by security taking his phone and gun. He walks in and sees Miranda, who he hasn't seen in 10 years. Miranda tells her story. She was shot. (We did see her get a little distance away from the SUV ambush in ep #1.) She was able to text Berta with the "take Renata to Lobo" message they had rehearsed because Miranda knew she was living in a dangerous situation. At some point, she contacted her old friend Alejandro Antoni, an old friend of hers. (No details given on how she left the shooting sight without being detected and fast, while still being injured. And another similar body was left near the crime scene and later buried.) She has been staying with Alejandro (whom we didn't see) while she recovered, and because people were still trying to kill her. She said she left Renata with Lobo because he was the only man she could trust to risk everything to keep a promise. (And I still really think there was a second reason.)
Another plot twist is that Miranda and Alejandro could keep tabs on Renata because a camera was hidden in Tato, the stuffed animal. This is how Miranda could send texts with current details. (I think Mir said that Alejandro also kept tabs on Lobo in prison, but I don't know how.)
Miranda said she wanted a divorce from Gustavo. He was violent to her (as well as to Graciela). Miranda stayed for Renata's sake. Lobo reaches out to Miranda and they hug. End episode.
Novelera, I agree, we are fortunate to have grown up with all the freedoms we enjoy. The treatment of women in Turkey reminds me of our culture up to the early 1900's. The maiden aunt recruited to raise the children is a common theme in novels from the 1800s, not to mention you were pretty much the property of your father husband or brother. Even as recent as the 1970s women couldn't have a credit card in their own name or a mortgage if she was married. I think bank accounts were also jointly held. It makes it difficult for a woman to escape if she is in an abusive relationship.
I have felt a bit sorry for Pelin all along because she really seems to love Ferit, despite his womanizing ways. I am tired of the storyline though. Time for her to move on as Gulgan advised.
Thanks all for all the recaps. I've been reading them and watching as I have time.
Sorry - I am not watching tonight's (April 10) episode, as hubby is watching the Masters Tourment replay and the Brewers game. Not sure when I or if I will watch it - super busy over the next few days.
Great recap and discussion. I agree it would be hard to manage living in such a male-dominated culture. Kat, you mentioned more recent things that I experienced but had forgotten like getting a credit card! We have come a long way even in my lifetime!!
I enjoyed Halis and Hattuc. Their thawing relationship is poignant and hopeful. It may soften some of the characters’ rough edges.
Ferit was so happy when it looked like he won! Seyran did rise to the occasion. But, it looks like it’s in vain. The attempts to hide the newspapers was fun to watch, but now we’ll see what happens with the facts known. We can hope Ifakat will get in some trouble!
I can do #35 this weekend to publish sometime Sunday if no one else is.

Anastasia: Something tells me Miranda will be scheming to bust up Lobo & Antonia, so that she can have Lobo all to herself. Here comes the major roadblocks.
However, I think Lobo & Antonia (if both are still alive by the end of this chaotic Telenovela) will eventually become endgame when all is said & done.
I remember my mother getting her own credit card and own bank account as soon as she could, in the early Seventies. No problems with her marriage, but Mom was a women's libber. I keep my money separate from my husband's to this day. (Altho we have both made them joint for access at death.)
I see the dizi's set in Instanbul are fairly modern, but oh boy the dizi's set in the hills - no way could I live there.
Episode #37 - Ending
April 10, 2026
As I said above, we watched sports in my house on Friday evening, not "Lobo". Once the replay of Rory McIlroy's birdie putt on 18 sank, I switched to "Lobo" at 48 minutes after the hour (9:48pm Central).
At 48 minutes after the hour, Miranda, through the camera in Tato, is watching her daughter Renata talking to Tato about Lobo and Renata's romance.
At 55 minutes after the hour, Lobo finally tells Antonia about the hidden camera in Tato. Antonia quite rightly feels that her privacy has been violated. Also, she is concerned that secrets on keeping Lobo and Renata safe were revealed in front of Tato.
Leonor and Azufrero become associates. But Leonor doesn't want Cruz told. I assume the deal is that Azufrero can help deter Carlos from blackmailing Leonor. But she doesn't want him killed.
Antonia thinks it is possible that Miranda schemed to kill Gustavo. Lobo is sure that Miranda wouldn't do it, with perhaps being blind to the possibility due to his former love and current affection for Miranda.
Miranda tells her friend that Lobo will not betray her. End episode.
Thanks again, Anastasia. My ex was an avid golfer and fan of pro golfers. He wanted me to play as well, so a set of clubs for me was acquired not that long after the marriage. But he was obsessed about his game and would often have a tantrum after a bad shot. So I started playing with some women from work. After the divorce, I played one time...a corporate golf game by people where I was employed at that time. The clubs are moldering away in my garage.
I'm pretty sure Miranda admitted to arranging the hit on Gustavo. But she was betrayed and shot herself.
Miranda looked pretty dangerous after watching Renata talk to Tato about hoping that Lobo and Antonia would get married and give her a younger sibling.
The talks between Lobo and Antonia were interesting and well acted. Yes, Antonia was very upset hearing about a camera watching her. Lobo definitely worked hard to assure her that Miranda was in the past and she, Antonia was the present. Did we know before that episode that the ever-present Tato had a camera inside? They certainly emphasized that Renata insisted on always having the toy with her, likely something instilled by her mother.
I'm actually surprised that Leonor doesn't want Carlo killed. I suppose it must be his value to the campaign. But he's shown every sign of a truly unhealthy obsession. There must be other campaign managers in D.F.
I so enjoy it each time Renata has a reunion with Santiago and Fernando. Kids need extended family, and these guys are great uncles.
Anastasia: I've got a gut feeling that Miranda will become more determined to busting up Lobo & Antonia.
Novelera: Now we know that Miranda placed the camera inside Tato, the little toy which Renata has always grabbed, etc.,
Golden Boy – Yali Capkini – Poder y Traicion
Episode 35 #1 of 9
“Everyone is Lying”
We get a short recap of the end of the last episode, showing Kazim with Gulgun, Orhan, Ferit, and Seyran in the yali entryway. Kazim is rolling up his copy of the newspaper and using it to emphasize his displeasure as he talks to Ferit.
Halis: You’re playing with my daughter’s pride and honor.
Orhan: Mr. Kazim, shall we sit?
Kazim agrees: I’m sure you think your children are valuable. But my daughters are too. You should know that.
Ferit: Mr. Kazim, that’s an old photo.
Seyran looks surprised at this. Kazim: What?
Ferit: It’s an old photo. It was taken before we got married.
Orhan: You wouldn’t listen to us.
Upstairs, Halis is striding angrily into his room, followed closely by Ifakat and Latif. She tells Latif to bring his pill. Halis says to forget about the pill.
Halis: What’s going on? Why is that man showing up to my house acting like he’s crazy?
Ifakat tells him there’s an article in the newspaper about Ferit. She tells him she will get it to show him.
Back downstairs, Kazim asks: Do you think I’m an idiot? Are you trying to fool me? It it’s old, why would they publish it now?
Ferit: Mr. Kazim, why would we fool you? Someone found the photo and printed it now. These things tend to happen.
Orhan: Many people dislike our family. This was ill-intentioned. Let’s sit down and talk about it.
Kazim: Is it not your son in the picture, Orhan?
Ferit: Mr. Kazim, I already said it’s me.
Kazim: That’s not what I’m saying. Look at this! Your haircut’s the same, your beard’s the same.
Gulgun: Mr. Kazim, this photo was taken right before the wedding. They just got married, so he wouldn’t look so different.
Kazim doesn’t look convinced. Seyran takes a shot at convincing him: They’re right, Father. (She takes Ferit’s hand). Ferit never leaves the house without me.
Kazim: Of course he wouldn’t do it in front of you, my sweet and naïve girl. You stayed with us last night. Where was he?
Gulgun: He was home. And Ferit doesn’t ever leave the house without Halis knowing.
Everyone looks at Kazim expectantly.
Orhan tells Ferit and Seyran to go, as they have said their part, and then the parents can talk.
Ferit and Seyran leave. Orhan shows Kazim to the living room.
As Ferit and Seyran reach the second floor, Ferit asks Ifakat what’s going on with Halis. She tells him she is trying to stall him. She had to tell Halis about the article. She asks what happened downstairs. Ferit tells her they told him it was an old photo taken before the wedding. Ifakat tells him she has to show Halis the article. She retrieves it from where she had hidden it and takes it to Halis.
Halis is drinking water. He asks Latif if he knew about this.

Latif tells him he found out when Halis did. Ifakat enters with the paper and Halis asks her if she hid the paper from him. She tells him she is sorry. She didn’t want to upset him. Halis grabs the paper from her. He starts to read. Ifakat tells him the photos were old, taken before Ferit got married. She says someone must have found them and printed them now.
Ifakat: Someone’s clearly trying to hurt our family.
Halis throws the paper aside and tells them to bring Ferit to him right away. Ifakat tries to calm him, reminding him they have faced a lot throughout the years: A lot of people have tried to hurt us.
Halis: How do you know this is an old photo? How do you know? How do I know you aren’t telling me this to keep me from feeling bad?.
Ifakat: Don’t say that Halis. I’m sorry. I’d never hide something this big from you. I only did it this time. I hid it because I thought I could handle it myself.
The lightbulb goes on for Halis: That’s why Kazim’s here. He read the newspaper and came right away. We’ve been dishonored. What a shame.
Ifakat: That man is tactless. He didn’t even hear us out. When we explain the situation, he’ll apologize and kiss your hand. Once we explain everything.
Halis tells Latif to get him another glass of water and then to bring Ferit right away.
Upstairs, Ferit and Seyran have arrived in their attic suite after being dismissed by Orhan.
Ferit: It never ends! Ever since you showed up, it’s one problem after another. And now your father attacked us in our own home!
Seyran: What? So, this is also my fault?
Ferit: If you hadn’t interfered, I might’ve convinced that guy.
Seyran: You say it as if I acted behind your back. You wanted me to talk to that journalist. And despite everything, I did it to spare you from trouble. You guilt-tripped me. So, is it really my fault? So, all of this is my fault.
Ferit: I didn’t want that, Seyran. But I knew he wanted to see you.
Seyran: Then why are you blaming me? He called Abidin and you didn’t let him answer. Maybe that’s when he decided to print the photo.
Ferit: This feels like a joke. It has to be a joke. That guy played me. Of course you’re OK with this. I always listen to you, but you never listen to me.
Seyran: Then you shouldn’t have left, Ferit. You can’t say it’s my fault that a random girl fought your girlfriend.
Ferit: Why do you think I went out that night? Don’t get me started.
Seyran: Do it, please. I lied my heart out downstairs to spare you. Lies. And this is how you thank me?
Farit: I bet it wasn’t hard for you. You’re used to it. It’s obvious you and your sister have been fooling that guy for years.
Seyran: What are you talking about?
Ferit: I’m talking about your lover. Yusuf. Does your father know about him? I wonder what else he doesn’t know.
Seyran: I really don’t know what else to tell you, Ferit. You hear me? You’re blaming me for this too. Bravo. Congratulations. You’ve never once taken accountability for your actions. Never. You’re always innocent. Someone else is always at fault.
Ferit: It wasn’t my fault, Seyran. Own up to it. It was your fault I went out that night. And it’s Pelin’s fault that photo was taken. Once again, as always, this isn’t my fault. OK?
Seyran: Whose fault is it that you have a girlfriend and a wife? (No answer from Ferit) That’s what I thought.

Episode 35 #3 of 9
There’s a knock at the door. Ferit answers, wiping away his tears. It’s Latif. Halis wants to see Ferit as soon as possible. Ferit tells him he will go later, but Latif says now.
Ferit goes, while Seyran is left in tears. She pulls herself together and follows them.
Downstairs, Latif takes Ferit to see Halis. [I always love the view from Halis’s rooms, overlooking the beautiful water. The view from the dining room is also of the water. Istanbul is so beautiful.]
Ferit, shoulders slumped, walks very slowly toward Halis. Halis tells Latif to close the door, leaving just Halis, Ferit, and Ifakat. Ferit goes to kiss Halis’s hand, but Halis yanks it away.
Halis: Don’t you dare! You’re not worthy of kissing my hand.
Ferit backs up and casts his eyes downward.
Halis: What was all that fuss about this morning? What happened? I want to hear it from you. I want you to tell me the truth and only the truth. Go ahead.
Ferit: Well, Grandfather, I just…
Halis: You recently told me you can’t always tell me the truth because you’re scared of me. Which is why I’m openly asking you now. For some reason, I’m choosing to take your word for it. Relax. I won’t do anything to you. I’m even considering forgiving you. If you tell me the truth.
He motions to Ifakat to leave, and she does but takes the time to give him the offending newspaper, probably making sure he sees it and doesn’t go too easy on Ferit. She goes near the door but doesn’t leave the room.
Halis, holding out the paper: When was this photo taken?
Ferit: Grandfather, I’m so sorry. I’m sorry I’m here, standing in front of you, due to this. That photo. I don’t know how to tell you this or if this will clear your doubts, but it’s an old photo. Taken before the wedding. There’s no way that photo was taken after I married Seyran.
Halis flicks away the newspaper: If it’s an old photo, why are they publishing it now? Why did they wait so long to do it? (A tear falls down Ferit’s cheek.) Is there something else you’re not telling me? Why would someone try to disrupt our peace now that you’re getting your life together, Ferit?
Ferit, looking very pitiful: I really don’t know, Grandfather. Please understand. Besides, I’ve been either at work or home. Even when I leave, Seyran’s always with me. I don’t hold grudges. It was only that argument the other night. But I doubted they would go this far. I don’t get why they published that photo.
Ifakat: Sir, we would have found out if there was more.
Halis: OK, kid. I won’t question this, then. I’ll take your word for it, once again. But look at me. Don’t lower your eyes. I really hope you’re not lying. If it turns out you are, I’ll find out, one way or another. I’ll know at the end. You told me you were scared of me and asked me to believe you. That would be the time to be scared, kid. I can get angry sometimes, but I always make sure compassion trumps that anger. Look at me! (Index finger pointing at Ferit). Don’t take advantage of my good will. Don’t you dare lie to me again! If you ever do, I won’t have mercy, even if you beg on your knees. I won’t forgive you. Do you hear me?
Ferit: Grandfather,…
Halis: What’s wrong? Do you have something to say? If you do, say whatever you have to say right now. You can be honest, kid. This will be over the minute you step out of here.
Farit swallows: Thank you Grandfather. Thank you for trusting me. I’m lucky to call you grandfather.
Ferit kisses the outstretched hand.
Halis: May you, your wife, and your future kids always be happy. You may go.
Ferit turns and leaves the room.

When Ferit walks into the hall, Seyran is waiting for him and asks what happened. He is wiping tears from his eyes.
Ferit: Why’d you come here? Couldn’t you wait in our room?
Seyran: I was scared for you. I couldn’t wait. What did your grandfather say?
Ferit: I managed to convince him, if that’s what you were wondering. If you were wondering if he yelled of threatened me, you probably heard him. You were right outside.
Seyran watches him walk off and sighs as she goes to follow.
Down in the living room, Kazim is finishing a cup of tea, holding his prayer beads, and looking at the newspaper: Tsk tsk tsk. We didn’t think this through. I gave my daughter away without hesitation. Turns out Ferit’s a flirt.
He says this to Ferit’s parents who are sitting with him.
Gulgun says it was before he was married. Ferit really cares about Seyran. You’ve seen him.
Kazim: Yeah, I know they care about each other. That’s why I got so upset when I saw the article.
Orhan: You’re right. You had quick reflexes. But, Kazim, my father’s an old man. If something like this happens again, come to me. Not to him. There’s nothing we can’t solve, don’t you think? And please, if I see any mistakes, I’ll be the first to punish my son.
Kazim: That’s between you and your son. I’m thinking about my daughter. If this had turned out to be true, I wouldn’t have left her here in this house.
Gulgun: Of course, every marriage has its issues, but its not right to get so worked up over nothing.
Kazim: This isn’t nothing, Gulgun. Not at all. I was careful raising my daughters, so they’d never bow their heads to others. But this is different. This is about morals. What would you say if Orhan acted in an immoral manner?
Orhan: No one is acting in an immoral manner, Mr. Kazim. [Gulgun smirks a little at Orhan here.] Let’s not get worked up again.
Kazim, very perceptive: I’m just giving an example. Why are you so upset? I’ve never once looked at another woman. I never once thought of cheating on my wife. I have the right to expect the same for my daughter.
Orhan: Of course.
Ifakat comes in and tells Kazim that Halis is ready for him.
Kazim seems a little uncomfortable about this meeting.
Kazim: I don’t know what to do. I think I embarrassed myself in front of him.
Ifakat tells him to apologize and kiss his hand.
Kazim assures her he will.
Kazim: Orhan, please get me a car while I talk to Aga. My family’s expecting me.
Ifakat tells him she will handle it. She also says that if it’s OK with Kazim, they can bring Suna back.
Kazim: Sure, of course. Whoever sees this article will be calling. They’re all going to call. How do I respond to all of them? I feel sorry for Seyran. (Kazim is starting to get worked up again.)
Orhan, trying to calm him: It’s OK, Kazim. I’ll handle this personally. We’ll go to the authorities and find whoever’s responsible.

Kazim: Who did it? Who are they? How can they treat the powerful Korhans so unfairly? Are we going to ask them for money?
Ifakat’s eyes open wide at this suggestion. Orhan tells him: Of course not, Kazim. I’ll talk to them. Don’t worry.
Kazim: OK. You’ll know what to do. You know the customs of this city better than me. I’ll stay out of it. (He finishes off his cup of tea.) OK, I’ll go meet Aga now. I feel terrible for my daughter.
After he leaves, Orhan to Gulgun: Speaking of Seryan…. The two of them exchange knowing looks and they sit down together, while Ifakat is seated facing them. She tells them that she thinks they convinced Kazim.
Orhan: Yeah. What about my father?
Ifakat: He also bought it. He talked to Ferit. Mr Halis believed him but if the truth ever comes out, we’ll all be in trouble, not just Ferit.
Kazim runs up the stairs to Halis’s room. He meets Latif and asks how Aga is doing. Kazim thinks he must be upset by the article as well. Latif agrees but doesn’t want to chat and shows Kazim to Halis’s rooms. Kazim nervously buttons his jacket and enters.
Kazim: My Aga, greetings again. It’s great to see you. He kisses Halis’s hand.
Kazim wishes him good morning, and Halis returns the greeting.
Kazim: I’m sorry. There was a misunderstanding. I was a bit off about this situation.
Halis: It’s a delicate subject. You have daughters. Not being sensitive over this would be a crime.
Kazim: That’s right. I was reading the newspaper this morning, reading the ads, and when I saw that, I got angry. My blood pressure went up. I wondered how my daughter was, and that’s when I jumped up and came here.
Halis: If this ever happens again, come to me first. That behavior isn’t proper by the son of an Aga like yourself.
Kazim: I’m sorry. You’re right. That’s what I meant to do, but I couldn’t stand seeing him at the door. It only made me angrier.
Halis repeats himself: From now on, if something like this happens again, you come to me first and tell me about your problem.
Kazim: Aga, I have to tell you something. Orhan just told me the same thing. He asked me to go to him first. He asked me not to go to you because your health is our priority. He’s right and I don’t want anything to happen to you.
Halis: Well, he spoke his mind. But right now, I’m speaking mine. Which one carries the most weight, Kazim?
Kasim: Yours, of course. Whatever you say. I don’t want to keep you any longer. I’ll be off, if you’ll allow it.
Halis: Of course. Tell your family not to worry. Both of your daughters are under my care at home.
Kazim: Thank you very much. I appreciate it. We know it.
Kazim goes to kiss Halis’s hand and leave.
Kazim starts to leave and suddenly stops: Aga, I have one last question so I can leave in peace. About that photo. It really is an old photo, right? [Kazim often shows good business sense in negotiation and apparently still has a sense (correctly) that it’s not an old photo.]
Halis: Kazim! If it wasn’t do you think I’d be so calm right now?
Kazim smiles and agrees. He thanks Halis and leaves.
After the door closes, Kazim heaves a sigh of relief and unbuttons his coat. He asks Latif to ask Seyran to come down to the garden. He wants to talk to her. He needs to tell her something.

Upstairs, Seyran is sitting on her balcony beside a seagull standing on the adjoining roof. At the door knock, she goes to answer it, but Ferit gets there first. Latif is there and Ferit asks him if anything has happened: Please, no more.
Latif: It’s not about you. Mr. Kazim wants to talk to Ms. Seyran. Ferit says he will go with her and asks where Kazim is. Latif tells him he is in the garden by the sea. Outdoors.
Seyran: He must have something to tell me.
She tells Ferit not to come. He asks if she is sure, and she says she is and leaves. Ferit goes out to the balcony and stands where he can see the garden.
Kazim walks into the garden and see the gardener and Yusuf talking.
Yusuf: I hope everything went well.
The gardener says it did and thanks him for asking.
Kazim calls Yusuf (not by name) over: Hey you, come here.
Yusuf: I’m here.
Kazim offers his hand for the kiss of respect. He thanks Yusuf when he complies.
Kazim: You are a respectful kid, well done. What’s up? Have you gotten used to this place?
Yusuf: I couldn’t, sir. This place is different. But I have to adjust.
Kazim, raises his massive eyebrows: That’s right. Same for us, I understand. We’re also fighting, but what can you do about it?
He uses his index finger in Yusuf’s chest to emphasize: Listen to me. (Kazim looks back up at the yali and probably sees Ferit looking down on them.)
Yusuf: Tell me.
Kazim takes him by the arm: I want you to keep me posted on everything that happens around here, OK?
Now he has both of Yusuf’s ears in his hands.
Kazim: I like you, kid. Well done. Now you know.
Kazim strokes Yusuf’s hair and we see Ferit watching all this from the balcony. No doubt Kazim is laying it on thick for Ferit’s benefit.
Ferit’s face is a now a storm cloud.
Kazim hugs Yusuf, and they take time to exchange phone numbers and addresses.
Now Seyran finally arrives. She is very surprised to see Kazim and Yusuf, thick as thieves. Kazim is telling Yusuf how to find his floor in the building. Kazim tells him to put his phone in his pocket.
Kazim: OK, come on.
He hails Seyran to join them. Seyran walks slowly toward them while he double checks that Yusuf wrote everything down.
Kazim: Look, young man, Seyran and Suna are part of this family. If something happens to them, you’ll look after them, OK? You’ll report back on everything that happens here. They’re your responsibility.
Seyran looks at Yusuf. He tells Kazim he will do as he wishes.
Kazim thanks him: You’re like a son to me. We’re both from Antep! We’re in this together. We understand each other. We’ve got to have each other’s backs.
Kazim tells Seyran: We’re just talking, honey. I love this kid. I asked him to protect you and Suna if something were to happen. Right?
Yusuf: Yes, sir.
Ferit watches this, getting even more worked up.

Kazim tells him to go back to work because he needs to talk to his daughter.
Kazim gives him his hand, and Yusuf kisses it. He nods at Seyran and walks off.
Ferit, up with the gulls, has a very frowny face. He turns to go inside and can barely walk, perhaps from stress or from the height from which he was watching. He holds his head.
He enters the suite and proceeds to throw and kick everything he can find, breaking lots of items. Eventually, he ends up on the floor at the foot of the bed, very impactado.
Back in the garden, Kazim looks up at the balcony and probably notices Ferit is gone.
Kazim: Listen up. If something like this happens again, I’ll be the first to know. Do you understand?
She nods yes.
Kazim: If my son-in-law pulls something again like this, acts improperly with you, I’m here for you. I’ll be the first to know, OK? Understand?
Seyran: I understand, Father.
Kazim: Hold on. I wanted to ask you this. Does Ferit usually go out at night?
Seyran: No.
Kazim: Does he drink or do anything of the sort?
Seyran says he doesn’t. Kazim looks closely at her and she says “no” again.
Kazim: Good. Alright.
Back upstairs, Ferit is still sitting at the foot of the bed surrounded by broken and strewn things. Seyran comes into the room.
Seyran: Ferit? What’s all this? Did something happen?
She kneels in front of him: Ferit, did someone say something? Ferit you’re scaring me. Is it your blood sugar? Do I call Abidin? Just tell me!
Ferit: I’m fine.
Seyran: What happened around here?
Ferit: They really like each other, huh?
Seyran: Who?
Ferit: Your father and your ex-boyfriend. They’re close.
Seyran closes her eyes.
Ferit: Their relationship seems to be sincere. They really get along. You got there and you all looked like a happy family. Does your father know? Is he in on the game too? Why wouldn’t he be? It makes sense. He already gave his daughters away to the Korhans. He just doesn’t mention it.
Seyran is quietly listening to this with tears in her eyes.
Seyran: You’ve really lost your mind, Ferit.
Ferit: Have I? I believe it.
Seyran stands up.
Ferit, with a hate-filled look: This is all your fault.
She turns to look at him, incredulous.
Ferit: I’m crazy because of you and your family.
Seyran: Will you ever stop blaming me for everything?
Ferit: Not everything, Seyran.

Seyran, looking around at the destroyed room: This is how you don’t blame me?
She squats in front of him with arms crossed: You have to understand actions speak louder than words.
Ferit: What were you all talking about so enthusiastically? I was wondering.
Seyran: I don’t know. How would I know, Ferit? They’d finished their conversation when I got there. I didn’t have a chance to ask my father what they were talking about. If you want, you can call Yusuf again.
That gets a sarcastic laugh from Ferit.
Seyran continues: Ask him yourself. You can talk about anything with him.
Ferit looks at her and smiles with tears in his eyes: You’re angry. I would be too. You’re right. How would you know? If only you’d known your father and boyfriend would get along, you wouldn’t have asked him to run away together. You would have happily married him.
Seyran moves away, shoulders slumped. She sits on the floor.
Ferit continues: And you would never have gone through this.
Seyran: Not this again. I’m going to go crazy. I’m sick of this. (She resumes crying and holds her hand over her eyes.) I’m sick of always arguing over this.
She clears her face of tears and looks straight at him: You’re never going to trust me, are you? You’re never going to trust me. Tears are falling again.
Ferit, nods at her: If you want me to trust you, you’ll have to prove yourself to me. If I’m wrong about this, I already know how to apologize for it.
Seyran: I can’t stay here any longer, Ferit. I can’t even look at you.
She tells him she is going downstairs now, whether he follows her or not.
Seyran: Please, give me some space, let me breathe, from time to time. You’re choking me.
Ferit: Your father also told me you never wanted to be with me. He said it’s thanks to him you’re with me. He locked you up in the basement, yelled at you, and withheld food and water. He told me. I get it now, Seyran.
She is impactada and turns to leave the room, leaving Ferit still sitting on the floor at the foot of the bed, eyes full of tears. He crosses his arms and stays there.

Ferit: I’m so sorry, Auntie and everyone.
Orhan: Ferit, I don’t know what to say anymore. I’m sick of talking about what happened. So, I’ll try to avoid this from happening in the future. I have to ask, and I need the truth. Have you done anything else that could upset your grandfather?
Gulgun, sighing: What kind of question is that?
Ifakat: A good question. None of us can take any more surprises.
Ferit answers Orhan: No, Father, this won’t happen again. I promise I’ll be more careful from now on.
Asuman can’t help grin a little at this.
Orhan: I sure hope so.
Ifakat: And you, dear Fuat, we’ve had so much going on, and you’ve barely left your room.
Asuman: We have a life too, Auntie. We have our own issues.
Ifakat: What does that mean, Asuman? We always share our troubles at the table.
Asuman, slyly: Do we?
She looks over at Seyran.
Asuman continues: Let’s think about what’s been going on lately.
Fuat: Just drop it, Asuman. Please. Everyone’s already nervous enough.
Asuman: So now I’m upsetting the family, Fuat?
Fuat: Asuman!
Gulgun: Guys, let’s calm down, please.
Asuman: Good, that way you’ll have more time to handle Ferit’s problems.
Asuman looks around the table.
End of Episode 35
Babachita
Thanks, Babachita. I don't think I'd be able to live in an environment like this family does. My goodness! The tension. The unspoken things. Everyone working constantly to maintain equilibrium.
I don't understand Kazim. He's worried about his daughter's honor? His desire, at least what I've seen, is to capitalize on the Korhan connection. Has he come there in a fake rage to try to get more money or property out of them should Ferit screw up? His daughters are chess pieces to him. Does he really care at all that Ferit is out on the town and possibly unfaithful to his daughter?
And the whole tempest in a teapot about the newspaper article is SO foreign to me. It's hard to wrap my head around why they care so much. Ferit had a photo taken of him of two young women angry at each other. Why is it so obvious that they were fighting over him?
I was SO hoping Ferit would tell Halis the truth. I know lying about it is going to come back to bite him.
I'm always irritated at Ifakat, and it bothered me that she stayed in the room while Halis dressed down Ferit.
Hmmm. It hadn't crossed my mind that Kazim was role playing his conversation with Yusuf for Ferit. OTOH I've never seen Kazim be as nice as he was to Yusuf to another human being.
I was glad to see Ferit finally tell Seyran the poisonous thing Kazim said to him...that Seyran was so reluctant to marry him that she did without food and water for quite a while. Seyran should realize how this hurt Ferit, but she's still furious with him.
Novelera, I was also hoping that Ferit might tell the truth. I wondered if Halis sensed that it was a lie. But I did think that Ferit was protecting all the family that were protecting him. If he’d told the truth, everyone would be guilty and subject to Halis’s wrath, even if Halis forgave Ferit. (Ifakat mentioned this potential disaster if Halis were to find out.) Ferit seemed to have no good choice.
Kazim is fascinating to me. He seems to have an outsized sense of how to manipulate others. They kept showing Ferit up on the balcony and that might just be for Ferit’s story, but I wouldn’t put it past Kazim to be taking advantage of an unexpected opportunity to knock Ferit further off his equilibrium.
Yes, it’s good that Seyran knows that her father told Ferit she had been forced to marry him. A blow to his vanity, it also makes Ferit distrust Seyran’s loyalties. Yusuf doesn’t help!
It’s a fascinating tale! I could be wrong, but I think the author might be a psychologist. Many good dizis are written by psychologists. I find myself amazed at all that Seyran experienced but Ferit’s golden cage has affected him as well. I’d so like those two to see each other as allies.
Babachita
Thanks for the recap, Babachita.
novelera: “I don't think I'd be able to live in an environment like this family does. My goodness! The tension.” I guess having mucho dinero and all the material things you want makes up for it.
“And the whole tempest in a teapot about the newspaper article is SO foreign to me.” Antepli Halis is hung up on honor. And the Korhans have a jewelry empire to run so maybe it’s bad for business, too. I can’t imagine what it’s like to be famous and have paparazzi stalking you. There’s no privacy.
I don’t think Kazim worried so much about his daughter’s honor as much as his own. A scandal would reflect bad on him. He gave his daughter to this family. And yes, he would use anything as leverage to get more goodies out of the Korhans. He’s ready to attack on all fronts.
ITA with you Babachita. I think Ferit lied to protect everyone. I think Halis had doubts but was willing to let it go.
Kazim doesn’t know the truth behind Yusuf’s relationship with Seyran and Suna’s part in it. If he did, he would take it out on all involved. I don’t think he was putting on a show for Ferit’s benefit. He’s being nice to Yusuf so he can recruit the kid as a spy in the yali.
You are correct Babachita. The storyline is from Dr. Gülseren Budayıcıoğlu, a Turkish psychiatrist, writer and TV host. Her novels are based on real patients, so they deal with trauma, dysfunction, and mental illness. They have been made into some very successful dizis. They always include the words “based on real events” in the episodes. I avoided them because of heavy subject matter and fear of bad endings. But I was intrigued by the trailers for YC and I had seen Afra and Mert in another dizi, Öğretmen, so I gave it a try. I was hooked from the first episode.
Whew! Thanks, dondi for letting me know you're doing 36. I will do 37, tonight or tomorrow depending on energy level.
