TAN CERCA DE TI, NACE EL AMOR #21 Part 1
Notes from the Couch
FLORES PLAYS DETECTIVE
Joaquín sees Flores at the school for the parent conferences and confronts him thinking that he is there spying on and harassing his family. Flores informs him that his daughter Alexa goes to the same school. Flores notices Vero and asks Joaquín who the girls are with. Joaquín says is "Consuelo" his domestic help.
Flores literally waits in the bushes to get to talk to Vero alone. He shocks her when he suddenly appears demanding to know what is going on. He thinks that her "costuming " is brilliant with the glasses and no makeup. Clearly she has infiltrated the household. She tries to tell him that is not what she is doing but he won't listen. He doesn't quite understand the situation since she was the one who said that not covering the Miranda's had to do with "ethics" He admits that he never believed her and has concluded there must be something really shady going on with the Miranda's. He demands that she tell him everything because the story she is creating belongs to him and his magazine
He wants to see her in his office. They have to talk.
CHECKMATE
Facundo doesn't believe that Kassandra has any proof that could point to him in the issue of the plane crash but she does! She informs him that there was a security camera pointed right at him while he checked the wing. He wonders who would fall first if people were to find out about her relationship with Luis and how that ended up with him incurring a million dollar debt. She reminds him that all she would have to do is blame Suárez for blackmailing them and, therefore, forcing Luis to pay the money to protect his family. For her, losing Joaquín would be the worst of it while Facundo, on the other hand, would end up being charged with premeditated murder and in jail. He would lose the respect of his son and his son would lose his future as a racer. Kassandra shows him the video on her phone. The original was destroyed but she has copies, She is so impressed about the quality of the video being in high def and all. She can just imagine his son's face when he finds out his father is a murderer! She then suggests that If he leaves her alone they can both survive and even become allies. They have overlapping interests. He is interested in Consuelo and she is interested in Joaquín. It is to neither of their advantage for that romance to keep going. They form a truce by Facundo telling her to keep Joaquín in line and he will take care of Consuelo. She ends up asking him if he has something against Joaquín. He answers that she needs to be careful with her questions because she might not always like the answers.

A WAY OUT OF DEBT?
The new accountant meets with Joaquín and Kassandra. He says that a long term payment plan would be the way to get the company out of debt. They could asks for a moratorium on the debt by the bank or find an external lender. Joaquín doesn't want to incur even more debt with another lender and is interested in making payments to the bank with their current earnings and without having to touch their capital. The accountant will see if he can come to an agreement with the bank. He also makes an important recommendation. Nobody at the corporate offices can become aware of their situation. Other subsidiaries have been closed down for much less in order to protect the rest of them. . Joaquín assures him it is only he and Kassandra who will know of the situation. The accountant warns them there is no room for error.
After he leaves, Kassandra tells Joaquín that nobody can overcome them while they are together!!!
DIEGO OFF THE RAILS . . .AGAIN
Diego shows Kassandra and Joaquín his proposal for the new motorcycle model. He did an excellent job and they are pleased. He is happy to be involved with something his father worked so hard on. He feels closer to his dad when he is at the company.
Shortly thereafter, Facundo follows him into the break room to tell him something that he thinks he should know. He tells Diego not to be too hopeful about the company. Diego is curious. Facundo doesn't want him running back to Joaquín squealing on him about what he is about to tell him. Diego says he won't do that. Facundo tells him that his father knew how to manage the company but it is proving to be too much for Joaquín. The company is on the verge of collapse because of a million dollar debt. It could end up in bankruptcy. He wanted him to know so he could be prepared when it all comes tumbling down.
Wild-eyed, Diego high tails it to Joaquín's office angrily demanding to know if the company is in bankruptcy. Joaquín keeps his cool and asks where he heard that. Diego doesn't think that is important. Is there a debt or not? He wants to know where it came from. Joaquín explains that it is a loan that needs to be repaid. ROMINA AT THE CROSSROADS
Romina ends up going to the snack bar with Iván to get a cup of coffee. He talks about how proud he is of his Majo. He explains that he was not the father he should have been. He panicked because he was young and afraid of losing that youth and his freedom. What he really ended up losing was the chance to get to know his daughter. Romina is impressed that he is talking from his heart. Not all men are like that.

He asks he why is she so sad. She thinks her marriage is coming apart. Iván says all marriages have their ups and downs but he is no expert on love. She says Marcos is a good man even though he is a bit stuck in the past but she liked that about him when she met him. She also wanted to get out of her parents' house. So, she got married. It happened all so fast. They have been together a long time but they really do not have a family. She feels like she needs children for that. He tells her she can always start over. She has no idea how she would do that. He says you can start over in different ways. She married till death do you part and she does love Marcos. She thanks Iván for listening to her without judging her. She needed a friend. He says he is always there for her and for whatever she needs.
ANOTHER MIRANDA KID, ANOTHER TANTRUM
Vale is in a mood having seen Eleazar arrive at school on his motorcycle for Rebe and not her. Vero notices she doesn't seem happy and goes to her room to see if she can help. Vale rudely tells her she doesn't want to talk to anyone and explodes. Vero reprimands her telling her she will not talk to her like that. Vale tells her she cannot talk to her that way because she is not her mother. . Vero explains she only wanted to help her. Vale answers that the only person who could help her was her mother. Vero apologizes for forgetting her "place": and leaves in tears. As she is washing some glasses, she daydreams that she tells Vale she is her mother and Vale rejects her. She squeezes the glass she is washing and breaks it cutting herself. Vale arrives and helps her. Vale is worried she is mad at her. Vero says she isn't. Vale apologizes. Nothing is Vero's fault. Vero is always so good with her. She explains that the problem is that she always ends up at the same point and cannot get beyond the fact that she had a mother who brought her into the world who didn't want her.

EVERYTHING ELSE
Joaquín talks to Facundo and Marcos about the new motorcycle project. Of course, Facundo will head up the project and that does not seem to go over well with Marcos who scowls though out the whole meeting.
At the snack bar, Claudia gets an unpleasant earful when Majo tells Diego to check to see if he can find her bracelet at his house. Claudia wants to know what is going on. He says that Majo came over looking for Joaquín and they ended up talking. He is clearly uncomfortable. He kisses Claudia on the forehead and is out of there.
Danni and Vero get back from getting Dani's legs waxed. She says it hurt less than the kids making fun of her. She is grateful for Vero's acceptance of the different ideas that she has. Vero says that is because everyone else doesn't see the special mind Dani has. Dani tells her that she read about some UFO sightings in Belize and wants to investigate them. Vero offers to work with her and they can investigate like journalists would. She adds that they will need to work with a cool head and an open heart and be brave enough to accept what they discover. Dani agrees. She wants the truth.
Meli also tells Vero, via her board , that a big girl Alexa has been taking her lunch and making fun of her because she doesn't talk. Vero tells her she is brilliant. The next time that girl makes fun of her she is to look her in the eye and think that she knows who she is and nothing the girl can say can change that. Then she can go on her way shining brilliantly!
Vale overhears Hugo telling Carmen about her and Eleazar and tells him she doesn't appreciate being talked about behind her back.
Yaneli tells her mother about how Hugo is back to chasing after the rich girl. How can she stop feeling like a wet dog without a tripe taco? Consuelo tells her that life will decide the situation not her. It is best to be just his friend. She assures her that someday there will be a man who will be hopelessly in love with her.
FINAL SCENE
After the Diego situation, Joaquín ends up going home and talking to Vero. He is so happy he has somebody to talk to. He explains to Vero that he told Diego that that the loan was his and not his father's because he didn't want to destory the image that Diego has of his father. He thinks it is better that Diego hate him than know the truth. Vero starts to cry. He asks if something is wrong.

Some information picked up from random conversations among characters:
- Vic told Carlo that their family is in desperate financial straits, and he can’t borrow money from Aramis because Aramis is one of the people he’s in debt to. Carlo wanted to know what Vic’s “secret business” was, in addition to whatever legitimate business they have, but Vic blew him off.
- Aramis married Perla, Sof & Cata’s mother, for money. Afterward he met Candelaria, who was the love of his life. He told Ines she was just an “outlet,” by which I assume he means “floozie” (or something even less flattering.)
- Grecia claims to be a victim of Aramis’ “abuse” — like so many other women, she says — and the mysterious Andromeda of the leg scar saved her life. She would do anything for Andromeda.
- Vic has a video of Aramis being tortured by thugs back in Europe somewhere, and he’s flashing it around to manipulate people.
- Grecia keeps a file in a locked drawer that indicates she’s a fugitive wanted for art theft.

Jarifa, thank you for your brilliant summary that read like a rich, detail laden short story. While grateful for palpable emotions, (yelling, screaming and crying among them) :), I am floundering in terms of trying to interpret dialogue and am so grateful for your thoughtful translations.
Loved "Yaneli tells her mother about how Hugo is back to chasing after the rich girl. How can she stop feeling like a wet dog without a tripe taco?" She is a gem and surely Hugo will see her sparkle soon.
Facundo, aka the harbinger of doom, continues his harassment. Tonight his poison arrow scored a bullseye with insecure, angry and resentful Diego. I would caution Kassandra not to be too smug in what she perceives is her "hold" over Facundo as he would likely not hesitate to kill her if she steps too far out of line.
So, it's a million-dollar debt! Joaquin is so kind wanting to protect the children and their interests as well as keep the memory of their father as an honest man intact. I'm enjoying he and Vero's easy, empathetic chemistry.
"She married till death do you part and she does love Marcos". That's Romina's story and she's sticking to it.
Vale needs to grow up; her jealous tantrums are tiring.

Jarifa, I am so grateful for your excellent recaps that supply us with all the details . I can only figure out what is going on from the visual clues . For example, I saw Marcos put his hand on Joaguin's shoulder after Diego's tirade. Perhaps be will be a help to Joachin in the future .
Facundo smiles as he sneaks around pulling all the strings .
I was hoping Nuria would show up to add some good to balance all the bad .
Ivan continues to think that he is qualified to hand out advice to everyone even as he just floats along living in his brother's house . Is he getting a paycheck? Is he Doing any work???

Last night's episode was interesting . Grecia in her burgundy fake fur shakes hands with Gina in her Jean jacket. uh oh
Chava watches Barbie try on wedding gowns, and Monica kisses him . uh oh
Looks like Grec is using Uriiel to get pregnant and say the baby is Gonzo's . uh oh uh .Then uriel Flashes back to happy times with Marisol and family in which he has on lion face makeup .
Barbie's swimsuit is longer than the shorts she wears to class.

Long hot day today.
Diana, as for Yaneli, "She is a gem and surely Hugo will see her sparkle soon." She is quite refreshing when compared to the other teenagers. I like how she speaks. Hmmm . . tripe is good but I have never had a tripe taco although they sell them down the street. One of these days . . .
Susan, "I was hoping Nuria would show up to add some good to balance all the bad." Me, too. Too much drama all the time. We need a break.
Long hot day today.

Interesting but in the last episode both Vale and Vero rubbed the right side of their necks when they were stressed. I wonder if they planned that.
The one and only BRIGHT SPOT of the episode!!!
Vero explains her tears as a reaction to the fact that her father is ill. He has high blood pressure and refuses to take care of himself.Joaquín offers to help but she insists she can handle it. She admits to being nervous. She even cut her hand but she had a great nurse to take care of it. Joaquín tells hr to go home. He has "entertained" her enough. She just beams answering that she loves it when he entertains her. They gaze at each other. She back tracks saying it is a pleasure chatting with him. He likes talking to her a lot, too. He fells like they understand each other. She agrees. Vero goes to leave and is so giddy she forgets her bag. Joaquín brings it to her attention. He smiles .
IT'S ALL DOWN FROM HERE
-Isaura thinks that Kassandra needs a strategy to get her romance with Joaquín moving quicker and more decisively. Kassandra says it is always those orphan brats that get in the way. Isaura suggests that Kassandra install herself in the house and then they can work on getting rid of the kids one by one. They use the fact that their apartment is being invaded by the smell from a neighboring apartment being fumigated for rats. Kassandra manages to get an invitation to stay at Joaquín's house. He couldn't see the women staying in a hotel! He tells Kassandra that he needed her close to him tonight. She smiles.
-Later on the couch and over some wine, Joaquín thanks Kassandra for giving him the space when he needed to be alone. The fact that she understands him is very important to him. He has also thought about her and him. His life has changed completely but she is always there for him. She says she loves him and admits he might not feel the same. He cares for her but what they have isn't love. She understands but wants them to give it a chance and maybe someday he will come to love her. She wants to be with him today and all the nights of her life.
-The mood is (thankfully?) destroyed when Diego comes in and sees them kissing. Diego screams at Joaquín that he wants him out of HIS house. He calls Kassandra a piece of garbage and rages on and on. Joaquín raises his voice and tells him that his disrespect is over. Diego warns him that he will not be able to control him and leaves.
=Diego goes to tell Vale what Joaquín has done getting the company into debt and how it is going to go bankrupt and they are going to lose everything. -Unfortunately, Vero gets baited by her father when he tells her how she could "remake " her life and have a family with Facundo. She could leave the past behind and, by the way, he wants a grandchild before he leaves this world (so? who cares?) She reminds him that he already had a granddaughter. He refuses to accept that fact. That was a mistake, something that never should have happened. She screams in his face that her daughter is not a mistake. Her child was the most sacred thing she in her life and he snatched her away but he doesn't have to worry because she found her. He goes beserk telling her that he had buried her biggest sin. Why dig up the past? He is wild accusing Consuelo and then Nico of having known about the grandchild before him. He asks how she found her. Vero says she found her because she is a journalist and reminds him of how he criticized her profession. He asks her how she knows the girl is hers. She answers it is because SHE KNOWS. She informs him that he has no idea how sorry she is for ever telling him about her daughter. He is not done talking! She is and she leaves.
-Aurelio ends up crying on his brother Nico's shoulder. The girl is not a part of their family. She was raised by another. Nico reminds him she has his blood and no matter how he tries to erase her, she is part of the family. Aurelio insists he protected her from growing up in poverty with a teenage mother. Nico wonders if he is protecting his image or his pride again. He informs Auelio that the truth is going to burst forth and he needs to be prepared but face it head on.
-Consuelo tells Vero that she is not alone. She has and will always have her. She is capable of being a wild beast to protect her and her child. Vale is no less a mother for having lost her. She is more of a mother to keep fighting for her. Vero believes that her daughter's and her soul is connected. Nobody will take what is hers away from her.
-Nico tells Vero that she cannot have a relationship with her daughter based on a lie. She asks what he would do if he had a son of his own. Silence is the answer.
-Hugo is still telling Yaneli about his unrequited love for Vale. She tells him to go for it and he does. He ends up telling Vale how he feels and kisses her. She is taken aback and leaves overtaken by the ICK factor.
-Claudia hears Majo dictating a text to Diego. She confronts her. Majo says she was texting her father. . .
-Romina sits Marcos down at the table and tells him that it is time for him to get tested. He refuses. She says she has been tested many times and she is fertile and healthy. He only has to take one test. He takes it as an affront to his manhood some how. (Uh, if having a child is that important to her, give the meathead an ultimatum)
-Romina gets angry, leaves and ends up at Ivan's (he was just about to have a rotisserie chicken and a beer) where she pours her heart out. Majo comes in and gives her father a look that says she suspects he is up to something with Romina.

The occupants of the "rat-infested" apartment need not worry, the (somewhat) human "rats" Kassandra and Isaura have already left the building, no fumigation necessary. 😊
"When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time." Maya Angelou's quote could not be more fitting for Aurelio. His callousness and cruelty were obvious from the start, yet his obscene tirade was still shocking in its abusiveness and maliciousness. He wants a grandchild yet dismisses his living, breathing granddaughter. His malevolence toward Vero is unforgiveable and I agree Jarifa she should avoid him at all costs. I would go even further to say she should cut him out of her life completely like the toxic cancer he is.
I was glad Hugo finally made a move on Vale who was clearly "overtaken by the ICK factor" (good one Jarifa!). The earth didn't move, not even a leaf fell. Hopefully, Hugo will start looking for love in the right places.
Diego quickly reverted to his entitled brat persona; demanding Joaquin leave immediately. The lad has a lot of growing up to do.

Well, last night's episode .....Ex hairy mountain man Julian is like part of Chavez's family now helping out with the meal prep and then working out at the gym with Chava. That was fast .
Monica is in an awful shocking pink fluffy gown at Abuelo's shop and having a major Monica hissy fit .Then , Abuelo tells her something ,and Monica hugs him . I'm guessing that he is going to get her a better gown .
Barbie is trying for a stiff upper lip talking to mom , who is wearing some kind of huge , dark green caftan/blanket as mother of the unhappy bride. Susan

Thanks Jarifa, I enjoyed your recap. I wonder if I dozed through part of last night. Kassandra and her mom showed up with luggage and I had no idea why. Joaquin should have let them go to a hotel. And where is mom sleeping? There must be another bedroom. I was surprised Cassandra was in Joaquin’s bed in the morning. That relationship changed quickly.
Diego just flys off the handle. And let everyone know something was going on with the business. I wasn’t sure if he mentioned the debt in front of everyone. Joaquin is too good. And then there’s Isaura, what does she mean be about eliminating the kids, one by one. I hope it’s not murder!

Liz, I'm still depending heavily on my Spanish subtitles. I usually can't start understanding just by listening until 6-8 weeks in. That's how long it takes to train my ear.

My favorite last night was Dani, she knows that Kassandra is not "the one" but Consuelo is. Vale was pretty good last night too, not kissing Hugo back and not getting hysterical like her brother about the debt.

Susan, " Hmmm..does the good father have a son somewhere ?" I never would have thought that but they did focus in on his face. But then I always thought that the good father in "Monteverde" would turn out to be his "nephew's" father and that never happened. Guess I am not the detective I think I am.
Niecie, good choices for your favorites from last night. I do not think I could have taken Vale taking Diego's part in his move against Joaquín. Here is hoping for a calmer episode.

I am tired of Diego 's tantrums and his mood swings. Just before Facundo whispered in his ear, he had hugged Joachiin and seemed to be calming down and less melodramatic . He seems to hate Kass, too.
Maybe tonight we will see Tia Nuria . Is she Luis's sister? I hope she has good intuition and senses that Kass and mom are not to be trusted . Susan
