I’m afraid I will not be continuing my short stay in Alternate Tucson. I was away for the long weekend and discovered upon my return that I did not particularly want to know what the boys had been doing.

I will set out for wine country on Monday and check out what’s happening on SABOR. See you there?

Notes from the Couch The action never stops edition!

1. In the home office, Vale tells Mario that this is her father Luis' office, her ONLY father's office. He agrees that a father takes care of you, brings you up and is there everyday giving you love. He explains that he was unable to give her any of that because he didn't even know that she existed. She asks how long has he known about her. He answers a few weeks after he found Vero again. She concludes that is why his attitude about her racing changed from one day to the next. He tells her she is an excellent racer. She won her position. She brings up him returning the shares that Nuria sold to his wife and wonders if he would have done the same thing if he didn't know the truth. He makes it clear that he is not there to talk about himself but about the family he, she, and Vero could be.

2. Carmen and Joaquín talk about Mario being there and Vale wanting to talk to him. Carmen says it is a very important time for Vale and wrong or not, Vero and Mario are her parents. He adds that Vero loves Vale more than anything and he hopes that someday, Vale can forgive her and just listen to her with an open heart. Nuria arrives.

3. Nuria and Joaquín speak alone. She is very embarrassed and doesn't know what she was thinking. He considers that and then angrily asks how she could be so irresponsible, so selfish and so dangerous to sell Kassandra the inheritance that Luis left for his children. He also knows it wasn't a simple vacation. She was planning to take them out of the country and never return. He slams the documents that Mario brought down on the table. If Mario hadn't stopped the sale, at this very moment, Dani, Diego, Meli and Vale would would be thousands of kilometers away without family, without support, and with absolutely nothing.

4. Vale is livid asking if he is really there to talk about Vero or is it Consuelo. She doesn't even know what to call her. He tells her she knows her name. She sarcastically answers yes it is Verónica Arellano the liar, the conwoman who came into this house and pretended to be somebody else. Is that who they are talking about??? Mario says they are talking about her mother who loves her so much that she was capable of doing all of that to be at her side. Vale insists that she lied to them all. She never loved her. The only reason she came around was because she found out that she was adopted by a family with money and that her parents had died. Mario feels like he is listening to Kassandra. He asks if that is what Kassandra put in her head. Vale says she opened her eyes so she wouldn't be manipulated. He informs her that if there is anybody who is capable of lying, betraying or manipulating anything or anyone for money, it is Kassandra. He knows because he made the biggest mistake of his life by marrying her. That is why he has already asked her for a divorce. If Kassandra came to talk to her it wasn't to help her or open her eyes, it was to take revenge, to hurt her, to destroy Vero and to wound him.

5. Lupita notices that Vero is writing something. Vero is not sharing it because it is a personal project. It is barely a rough draft. Vero is enthusiastic about Lupita's proposal but she is going through a rough time in her life and doesn't know if she would be able to handle a responsibility of that magnitude right now. Lupita says to take her time and give her a call in a few days so they can talk. If she accepts, she will have what she has always wanted: complete editorial freedom. Her authentic voice would be heard. Vero thanks her. Lupita tells her that no matter what she is going through, she is still a great journalist. She better not forget that. Vero smiles.

6. Joaquín asks Nuria how she ever thought of doing what she did. She explains that they are her nieces and nephew. They are all she has left from her brother and sister-in-law. She was scared with him deciding to fight her for their guardianship to take them from her. Joaquín says that he has done everything up front. He asks if she has done the same. Does she thinks it was responsible to offer four kids, who are dependent on her, a vacation so she could disappear with them? Nuria starts to cry. She says no. He asks her to think for once about what is important and he best for them, not for herself but for them. He informs her that he has enough extenuating circumstances to win the guardianship judgment.He hopes that for the children's sake, this doesn't end up being a long and painful process. He asks that she be honest with she herself. He tells her to realize that she is not the right person to take care of the kids. In tears, she says she does what she can but it hasn't been easy. He says that is exactly why they have to make a decision. She feels like she owes it to Luis to take care of the kids. Joaquín says she owes Luis nothing and she will always have a special place with the kids. He asks her to act from her heart and not her loneliness. She doesn't have the emotional balance to care for them

7. Mario tells Vale not to believe what Kassandra said or even what he has said. He wants her to believe in her own experiences and what she felt. You cannot fake real love. He knows Vero. He swears on his life that Vero is not greedy or into manipulation and calculation. She is only a woman desperate to love her daughter and to be near her no matter what it takes. He tells her to ask herself if she ever felt like Vero wanted anything from her. Vale thinks back on happy times with Vero. The only thing that Vero did was to love her without asking for anything in return. He asks her to think about everything he has told her. He tells her that whatever she decides, he and Vero will respect her. He will not bother her again but he will always be waiting for her. He leaves. She sobs.

8. Iván takes Romina home. She thanks him. She needed to have him close to her. He answers that he will always be there. He will be where she is. They love each other. They kiss. Marcos comes by to see Romina and sees them kissing. He gets upset and leaves.

9. Dani tells Vale that she doesn't agree with how she feels like Vero. She thinks that Vero really loves them. She doesn't like what Vero did at all but she cannot hate her. Meli cannot hate her either and misses her a lot. She knows that Vale knows that she wanted Vero to be their mother. She adds that Vale is very lucky that Vero is her real mother. Vale is sad but silent.

DAYS LATER

10. We hear Vero saying that time has gone by and her daughter has not come looking for her. We see Vale preparing to race. Vero wants to talk to her, see her but understands that this distance between them is the best for Vale. She herself is calmer but the pain is still there. She realizes now how enormous her lie was and asks herself if someday Vale will be able to forgive her. She doesn't know if she will be able to forgive herself.

11. We see the magazine offices as Vale tells us so many days have gone by in silence, days in which she has felt that the whole world has fallen on top of her. Even with all of this, she is still standing because Joaquín didn't let her fall. We see Joaquín seated in the waiting area of the magazine offices. His love is the only place where she still finds calmness, where she can breathe although her heart is still broken.

12. Vero hands the story of her life to Lupita who is impressed. Vero says it was the only thing that kept her from going crazy: writing about all she went through to find Vale, her daughter. Lupita says it could be a great book and help other women. Vero didn't write it to publish it. It was a her way of letting it all out. She needed to understand what to do and how to go on. Lupita gets it but when she changes her mind, she can put her in touch with the best editor that she knows. Vero thanks her. Lupita asks her for her answer to the job proposal. Vero says YES! Lupita announces that Vero is back! They hug.

13. Majo has gone to meet with the Countess. The Countess says she isn't asking Majo to take sides but only to talk to her father. Majo has to refuse to get involved in her father's personal life. He has chosen Romina. He has loved her for along time and is happy with her. Majo says she herself has just broken up with Diego and yes, she still loves him but sometimes, love isn't enough. Sometimes, letting go is the healthiest thing to do. The Countess smiles, thanks her and says she is going to leave Mexico. There is nothing to keep her there. There is a knock at the door. Majo says it must be for her. She picks up her purse and is ready to go. It is Renán. The Countess and Majo hug goodbye. Majo and Renán leave.

14. It is the day of he race. Aurelio is waiting for Vale at her motorcycle.

15. Vero gives Joaquín the good news at the magazine office. She is the new co-director of the magazine.He hugs and congratulates her. He thinks it is time that she is who she is again, that she has returned to her life, her voice, her talent. She says it doesn't mean anything without Vale. She would give it all up for her. He reminds her that she hasn't lost yet. Vale needs to heal. The day will come when she will seek her out. The love she gave her isn't going to disappear so quickly. Vero hopes he is right. He calls her a warrior and and a mother. Mothers always find the road back to their childrens' hearts. Always. He hugs her.

16. Aurelio address Vale as his "granddaughter the racer." Vale makes it clear that this is her first race as a professional. She needs to practice. He says he didn't come to bother her. He asks "his daughter" how she is doing. She tells him not to address her like that. She is nothing to him. He agrees that she is right. As he starts to tear up, he says he is nobody to tell her anything. He doesn't even deserve her looking at him but he does want to tell her something she hasn't asked him for. He apologizes for what he did, for what he didn't do, everything that happened before she was born never knowing he would come to see her up close like this. He doesn't want to leave this world without saying he is sorry and above all, he loves her. Although she doesn't know him and doesn't want to see him ever again, he loves her. If she ever wants to hear his story, he will be there without expecting anything in return. He only wants her to know the whole truth so she can see her mother with her own eyes. He will not be at peace until she is back in her mother's arms. He wishes her luck on her race, turns and leaves. She calls after him being respectful calling him "don" Aurelio. She wants to hear the story. She wants to know the truth. He nods.

17. Down in the lobby, Renán asks how things are going with Diego since they have broken up. She says that she is pretending to be pleasant even though she isn't feeling that way inside. Renán has another therapy appointment today. She wants to go with him. He says since he has started therapy again, he is feeling better. He owes it all to her and he doesn't know how to thank her for everything she has done for him. Ever since he has arrived from Spain, he has wanted to do this. He kisses her.

18. Aurelio tells Vale that when he found out that her mother Vero was pretending to be another person to be close to her, it seemed pure craziness to him. She asks if he doesn't think it is now. He says he does but he now understands that a mother will do all kinds of crazy things for a child. He cries as he tells her to think of her mother having her when she was 15 years old. She was a child in a world that was much tougher than this one being in a family like his with a father like him. He was hard, inflexible, authoritarian, mistaken. He thought that being like that he was protecting his family but all he as doing was making them afraid. Outraged, Vale asks if that is why he left Vero alone at 15 expecting a baby. He says he did something much worse. They hid her in a house they had, a lost place. He left her there for months without her going out and without her talking to anyone because he didn't allow her to. Even Romina didn't find out about her pregnancy. He locked her up as if she had committed a crime.

19. Majo pulls away saying she thought they had it straight between them that they were only friends. He wants them to have an open relationship like they had back in Spain. She explains that she cares for him but she doesn't love him. He thinks that they are both single, so why not? She doesn't want to be with anyone unless she is in love. He asks why doesn't she think she could fall in love with him. He came from Spain for her. She explains that she is still in love with Diego and she refuses to use somebody else to forget him. She can only offer him friendship. If that is not good enough, then it is better they do not see each other.

20. Suddenly, the Countess and police appear on the staircase. Renán quickly slips the heirloom emerald necklace into Majo's handbag. He runs. The Countess points out Majo the thief and demands her necklace.

21. Aurelio tells Vale that a midwife helped bring her into the world. Sobbing, he remembers seeing her mother and her begging him to put her in her arms. He wouldn't allow it. He didn't let her hold her or kiss her; nothing not even for a minute.He believed it was going to be easier for Vero that way so she could go on with her life, study, have a future and not be tied down with a teenage pregnancy. They were poor, very poor and he was so very afraid. Vale asks is that why they turned her over to strangers. He says they weren't strangers. He wanted to give her a chance and he thought about what would be best for her where she would want for nothing and not have a grandfather as stupid as he is.She says he separated her from her mother. He admits that is what he did and it was the very worst thing he ever did in his life. Vale is crying too. He says that her mother never got over it. She never could. She never had another boyfriend or any children. She couldn't. She spent her youth and her strength looking for her. She only had one goal: to find her. As Vale continues to cry, Aurelio tells her that Vero is a great woman. She loved Vale without knowing her and when she found her, she loved her without asking her for anything. He asks her not to punish her mother. If anyone is to be punished, it is him. He is the one who deserves her rage but not Vero.

22. The Countess asks Majo how she could have done this to her. Majo thinks of Renán and calls out to him but he is long gone. Majo denies having stolen anything. The Countess doesn't believe her. She knew how valuable that necklace was. Majo says she is wrong. The Countess grabs her handbag ands find the necklace. Majo is arrested on the spot.

23. Kassandra notices that she is being followed. She is quickly surrounded by several men who guide her to a SUV where she is told to get in. Sanabria, Mario's thug and lawyer, greets her. He tells her not to be afraid. If he had wanted to kill her, she would already be dead. The message is that Mr. Nolivos doesn't want to see her around any more. He suggests that she pay attention to what he is going to say because it is the only way she is going to stay alive. She will leave the country today without fanfare, without goodbyes. He asks if she understands. She says she can't leave. She has no money. She has no where to go. He makes it clear that if she doesn't go, they will kill her. Those are Mr. Nolivos' orders and they will all follow them. Next time, there will be no notice.

24. On Joaquín's arm, Vero gives Romina, Consuelo, Nayeli, Hugo and Nico the good news about her new job. They are all happy for her. Vero finds out that Vale is racing and is upset she cannot be there to see her. Then Aurelio appears

25. Aurelio reminds Vero of that the day he took her baby from her arms. Well, today, he is returning her. Vale appears and calls Vero "mamá". Everyone is overjoyed.

26. Majo has been jailed. Iván and Olga are there to see her but she has another visitor. The Countess arrives. Iván says she knows Majo is not capable of doing something like what she is being charged with. He asks if it is revenge because they broke up. She says it is not revenge but justice. His daughter tried to steal a piece of jewelry that is an heirloom from her family. She hopes to never see Iván again in her life.

27. Vero and Vale hug. Vale says she judged her without listening to her and hurt her without understanding. Now she knows everything she suffered and all she struggled through for her. She found out everything and that she never stoped loving her. NEVER. Vero says she loved her before she was born and will love her until the day she dies. Vale tells her she loves her. They hug again and Aurelio joins them.

28. From behind bars, Majo says Diego didn't have to come. Her parents are handling everything. Diego assumes that Renán stole the necklace. She nods. He thinks that Renán saw the police and threw the necklace into her handbag and then ran like a rat. Majo says that Diego was always right. Renán was the one stealing things at the company. He is a kleptomaniac. She tried to help him and got him into therapy. It is an illness and he was getting better. He wants to know why she didn't tell him. She didn't want to see Renán lose his job. Diego asks if that is how he pays her back by sending her to jail. He is a coward.

29. Kassandra is taking Mario's threat seriously and is packing as her mother asks what is going on. She informs her that Mario has ordered her to be killed. Sanabria picked her up on the street and told her that if she didn't leave Mexico, they were going to kill her. Isaura asks why would Mario want her dead. Kassandra says because of HER, that damn Vero. They want her out of the way so they can play family with that bastard that they had. Isaura tells her to stop and think. Kassandra says why? Isaura should know that her life could be in danger, too. Isaura decides they have to get money. She tells Kassandra to get all of her a watches together along with her jewelry. They have to sell it all.

30. Renán is back in the shop with his passport and cash. Diego confronts him about stealing the necklace and letting Majo take the fall. Diego says he is going to turn him in. Renán says no and punches Diego. The fight is on. Diego gets him down and repeatedly punches him in the face.

31. Rebeca is angry and in tears is tellingMario that the race is today and he cannot let Vale race or represent their team. He tells her it has already been decided. She wants to know what is going on. Vale is a hypocrite and doesn't deserve his support. She stole Eleazar from her. Now she is stealing her father. She asks why he is doing this to her. She is his daughter. Mario informs her that Vale is also his daughter. She is shocked and asks what did he say. He says that Vale is her half-sister,

32. Vale tells her mother that for her whole life she thought that she didn't love her. Vero says if she only knew how much time she spent trying to find her. She didn't know what she looked like but she looked for her every day on every corner. There was not a second when she didn't love her with her whole heart. She never stopped searching for her. Vero says she hated the idea her thinking that she didn't want her and that is why she got rid of her.Vero says no and they hug. Vero thinks that Vale is the most beautiful love that she has felt in her life. She is her pride, her strength, her light, her everything. Everything she is, is because of her. Vale apologizes for all the terrible things she said out of her pain and fear. Vero tells her there is nothing to forgive. She is a miracle and it is a miracle that they are together. It is so lovely to hear her call her mamá.

Your recap was beautifully and heartbreakingly conveyed. A true masterpiece, every word.

Joaquin and Mario's impassioned speeches made me cry. Despite their obvious love and devotion, it paled in comparison to what Vero feels for her daughter. May Vale's heart be healed as she is embraced by her birth family who love her as fiercely as her other family, of the heart.

And Aurelio. I cried hardest at his admittance of wrongdoing and his cruel isolation of Vero as she gave birth. Amazing acting from Alexis Ayala, a tour de force performance.

I had hoped we could share Joaquin and Vero's joy tonight as things come to an end. But anvils are surely swaying in the breeze for Kassandra and Mario.

Emotional turmoil radiated from every word uttered last night but it was one of the most powerful, unforgettable episodes I've ever seen.

Jarifa, one of your finest recaps ever. I am in awe of your talent and your generosity in sharing every single word and emotion with us. Thank you.

I'll join you there. I truly was in it because you were and I enjoy your posts. I've been watching courage half heartedly but not liking the whole premise of the TN. I saw the actor playing Falcon in a show, nadie como tu, a few years back and he was a scary deranged character so I guess he is typecast.

I loved how Mario, and then Aurelio, defended Vero’s love and devotion to Vale. I’m glad it was Aurelio that was able to bring her back to her mom. Aurelio was amazing. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen him in a telenovela before.

Majo is in jail with one episode left. I’m thinking they have enough to resolve without adding something at the last minute. I was to see Mario and Kassandra get what they deserve! And then some happiness for everyone else. I guess Nuria will slink away as quickly as she arrived. I guess she was trying, but really clueless about relating to kids.

I’ve resigned myself to Romina and Ivan. Can they make Ivan a little more likable in under an hour. The countess is done with him, so Romina wins by default.

I wonder what will become of Rebecca if her dad ends up in prison. Will she own half the company! That would be a disaster and a whole new telenovela.
