La Fea Más Bella #119 10/6/06 Steaks on a plane
Fern begs Lety to go to Germany and says he needs her. She reluctantly agrees, and Fern does something cute to her face in thanks. He goes to give Ricardo the good news. Lety tells herself she doesn't feel good about this, and doesn't think she should go.
Martha is talking about the soccer game. Actually, she's talking about the food that she'd like to get for them to eat in front of the game. PM says Fern doesn't like them eating at their desks. Alicia comes in and greets them all brightly. They don't seem so happy to see her. They ask if she's been dreaming of horses. They harrass her for being late, and she says her arrival time is none of their business; only Fern can tell her what to do. They tell her Fern's already been at his desk for hours, and because Lety arrived on time, she's now in a really important meeting with Fern and Ricardo.
This surprises Alicia because she evidently didn't see yesterday's episode where she was in Fernando's office, wearing the same outfit she's wearing now, bothering them in their meeting. (I think something got edited out of order.) They tell her it (the meeting) is a matter of life or death. Alicia doesn't believe them and they won't say any more. She resolves to find out what's going on.
Fern tells Ricardo that Lety has agreed to go to Germany. Alicia just walks on in carrying a tray of coffee. Nobody asked her for coffee. She says that's okay, she thought she'd bring it because they all came in so early. Fern tells her he knows she's there because she wants to know what's going on. She gets offended, but he says he's going to tell her everything... later. He ushers her and her tray to the door, whispering, and pushes her out. She tries to listen at the door.
Ricardo says "your secretary is so pretty." Fern says he sometimes wishes she would hang herself!
Tomorrow's episode: Alicia hangs herself. Ricardo calls the police - it wasn't a suicide... it was murder. And he knows who did it!
Not really.
Sara sneaks up behind Alicia, who is completely absorbed in her eavesdropping. Sara yells and Alicia is startled. She screams and drops her tray. They all laugh at her. Come on, isn't this like shooting fish in a barrel? But I digress.
Saimon comes in to make an announcement. He wants them all to get together and ask Fern to let them watch the game. They get rowdy with excitement, and Irma shushes them. Alicia says she'll ask Fern... not to let anyone watch it. She starts ordering people around.
Fern is annoyed in his office about all the noise going on outside. Ricardo tells Lety he just spoke to his assistant, and Lety will be able to get a passport right away. Lety says she really thinks they can't go. It's going to be difficult to get plane tickets, hotel reservations, etc... Ricardo assures them that's all taken care of too. They'll be on a first-class flight to Frankfurt. Lety frets about the cost, which is not an issue for Ricardo. He gives them their contact information. Then Lety worries about the underwear commercial, and Fern says that's not going to be an issue either; this trip to Germany will be very quick. He tells her to stop making up excuses.
Ricardo asks Lety what's up. Isn't she excited to be going to Germany? She says sure - she'd even be happy to go to Acapulco. Ricardo leaves and Fern tells him to say hello to Luigi.
Now Lety is worried about something else. What if Alicia finds out they're going to Germany? She'll tell Marcia. He wonders how they'll be able to explain their absence.
They can hear Saimon outside Fern's door. Saimon is saying what a great humanitarian their boss is, and how good he is to his employees. Fern comes out and Saimon has them all saying wooooo for the Mexican team. Fern blows a horn. Irma asks if they... but Alicia cuts her off. Fern asks Irma what is it. Sara impatiently begins asking instead. He interrupts. You want to see Mexico play? They all cheer. He blows the horn and dances a bit. Alicia complains that the cuartel are always wasting time and never working. A vacation every day, she says. Lola clarifies that they want to watch the game here, in the office.
Fern and Lety step into his office. He tells her he has an idea to prevent them all from discovering their trip to Germany. They go back into the lobby. He says that to thank them for helping with the underwear commercial, they can all take tomorrow off to watch the Mexico-Angola game. They all cheer, but Alicia is dismayed. She asks if he's lost his mind, rewarding them for being slackers. He blows the horn some more.
He and Lety go back into his office, and she asks how they're going to explain their absence when they have to leave early this evening to catch their flight. He says that's okay, he's already figured that out too. (They are very cute in this scene.) They step back into the lobby and he blows the horn some more. He tells them to go out today and prepare for a party. Go out and buy whatever they need to buy to watch the game. Alicia protests. Fern says no, this game is very important, they must prepare themselves psychologically, prepare their hearts, their organization... okay Fern, don't you think you're laying it on a little thick? I mean, it's not like it's the Celtics, for crying out loud!
Ahem. Martha is already talking about food. They all go crazy about taking two days off. Fern reminds Alicia that he's the president, but she complains that this is absurd. She doesn't understand all the excitement about nasty soccer and says it's a game for... I bet she wanted to say nacos, but Fern cuts her off. "It's a game for people like me," he says. He blows the horn a final time (I hope) and dances some more.
Lety goes into her cubbyhole and prepares to call her father to ask permission to go on the trip. She fears he will think she's joking. Mom answers. She senses Lety's nervousness and starts to panic. Lety's afraid to ask. Finally she blurts out that she has some news. Mom and Pop look excited. Then Fern comes in and she loses her nerve again. He shoves some gadget at her that I don't recognize (turns out it's a clock) and she gets flustered and hurriedly ends the phone call. He says they need to get their tickets, get her passport, etc. etc. She agrees and shoves her own, less-fancy (and more recognizable) clock (probably a Moty clock) at him in acknowledgement.
Then he spontaneously grins, tells her she's beautiful (hermosa, like a garden), leans in and does that weird thing with her face again and kisses her. He leaves and she grins happily.
Filler scene: cuartel discusses how great Fern is. Alicia complains. Martha mentions food. You know the drill. Then Saimon asks Alicia if she'd go to their party if they asked her. (I'm not even sure where this party is going to take place.) They don't all love this idea, but Irma asks Alicia if she would like to be invited. (Not "would you like to go," but "would you like to be invited." LOL.) Alicia says she'd die first. Sara scolds her for being so rude about Irma's kind invitation.
Fern comes out and encourages them to enjoy their time off. He says he and Lety are leaving now. Naturally, Alicia wants to know why. He says they are going to visit all of his girlfriends. She wants a better answer. He says they're going to the bank for some business dealings. "Dealings?" she asks. "Type B," he elaborates, and leaves her there scratching her head.
Back at home, Tomas speculates about Lety's news. Maybe she's getting married! RoboPop says how many times have I asked you not to make such jokes. Okay, Tomas says... maybe she got a promotion. Pop says don't be stupid, she's assistant to the president - what would they promote her to? Mom says the suspense is killing her. Tomas strokes an imaginary beard, deep in thought.
Meanwhile, at the passport office, Lety and Fern laugh that Alicia was the only person who was upset about getting two days off for nothing. They pat themselves on the back for their brilliant way of solving the problem. Lety says she speaks English, French, and a little Italian, but not German. He says it's okay, everyone in the world speaks English.
It's getting late. Lety worries that they won't let her have a passport. He asks why she is so pessimistic. Does she really not want to travel with him? Just then, her passport is ready. She doesn't want him to look at it, but he does anyway. She sees it and admits it's not so bad. He says, "that's what I'm saying." She signs it and it's time to go on to the next step - she's gloomy again. Now for the only thing that can ruin their plans now: telling RoboPop. She makes a horrible face.
Mom, RoboPop, and Tomas are just sitting down to lunch. Pop is saying that his daughter has a nice quiet family life at home. That should be enough for her. (He's still a bit wound up about Tomas's prediction that she's engaged.) Tomas says that even if Pop doesn't like it, Lety is bound for better things, and better people than themselves. He snickers. Mom tells him to knock it off. They will find out Lety's news tonight.
But Tomas has one more idea: maybe Lety's going to join a convent! Mom gives in and laughs. She tells him to stop being silly.
Lety comes home. They think that means it must be even more serious than they had thought. Mom asks if she's the new president of Conceptos. Tomas asks if she's going to have cosmetic surgery. Dad asks if she's getting married. She just blurts it out: she's going to Germany with Fernando. Tomas laughs and scoffs, but Lety is serious. Pop says: with whose permission?
Meanwhile, at Casa Mendiola, Fern is on the phone with Marcia. Marcia wants to know why he gave everyone two days off. He wants to know who told her. Was it Sanson, Celso's dog? Wait, no, was it... Juana? No...
Marcia does not appreciate his sarcasm. (He thinks to himself that he'll have a better time on his trip with Lety.) There's too much work to do at Conceptos. He says they've worked hard. She tells him she thinks he's hiding something from her. He points out that Alicia, her informant, also said that they were making dirty movies, so maybe Marcia should listen to him and not Alicia. He wants to see the Mexico game tomorrow, himself. He'd like to enjoy it, please.
Marcia asks where he's going to watch this game. (Is there a TV shortage in Mexico or something? What kind of trick question is that?) Actually... it trips him up a bit. He says he's going to the club and see it so he doesn't have to watch it alone. He can watch it with the horses, and his associates, and the old guys, yep, watchin' soccer on the TV.
Lety is packing all of her frumpiest frocks. Her father demands an explanation. He tells her she's not going. Lety says it's important. Tomas defends her too - he says she deserves these opportunities. (He'll do just about anything for Lety, but I wonder what he gets out of his friendship with her, other than Mom's cooking.) Lety explains that she's going to assist in negotiations and review contracts worth hundreds of thousands of Euros. (Not sure offhand what the conversion factor is; originally 1 Euro was = $1, I think, but it's certainly changed since then.) The deal won't happen if she doesn't look at that contract, she says.
Tomas spies Lety's passport and gasps with admiration... until he sees the picture. He says she looks blurry. Mom is excited too. She's never seen a passport before. RoboPop is still thinking about what Tomas and Lety have said. She's going to review a contract worth hundreds of thousands of Euros? Suddenly, he's very impressed. Lety nicely asks if she can go. Mom puts in a few more good words.
After the commercial break, they are at the airport's VIP room. She is very nervous. She admits she's afraid to fly. Fern tells her that flying is safer than driving or even the dunebuggies you rent at the beach (somehow I doubt she has ever rented such a thing and possibly never been to the beach at all). She says she's not worried so much about the airplane, as being in a situation she can't control (I think that's what she says). She says more stuff, which causes him to laugh. She is not amused. I think what she's talking about is claustrophobia. If she were not with him, she would want to go home to her parents... but since she's with him, she'll go on the airplane with him.
He takes her to the bar and orders her a tequila. Their flight is announced, and she clutches his arm like for dear life. She slams that shot down like lukewarm Gatorade on a hot day (try it; when you're dehydrated it tastes like paradise). (Gatorade, I mean. Don't drink tequila if you're dehydrated.) (Hmm, I wonder if they mix?) She makes a face.
Back home, Mom and Tomas talk about world travel. Tomas notices that RoboPop isn't paying attention. He seems to be asleep or in a trance. Tomas waves his hand in front of his face, and he doesn't react. Then RoboPop pops out of his chair and says "how important is my daughter?! I am so proud of my daughter. Her boss can't lift a finger without her." etc... "Thanks to Lety, Fernando will have that contract in his hands."
Lety and Fern are just about to board the plane when Lety has a panic attack. She wants to go home. The people behind them (one of them looks like the guard from the country club) are impatient to board. Fern pleads with her to get on the plane.
Due to technical difficulties, I missed the next few minutes. Fortunately, I tape my episodes on a clunky old VCR as backup. Unfortunately, I did not rewind the tape in a timely manner, so that part of the episode might be missing from there too. If I have it, I'll replace this paragraph with whatever happened. If I don't have it, well, I doubt anything important happened.
Fern has apparently gotten Lety to her seat, where she's having another drink. She guzzles it and says she wants another. He asks the flight attendant, but she says no, we're about to take off. She tells Lety to fasten her seatbelt. This causes Lety more panic. Fern helps her with the seatbelt. She's a bit loud and the other passengers are annoyed. One woman in particular is giving her disgusted looks. A man asks if she's feeling well when she starts praying. Fern tells her they're just taxiing down the runway. She clutches his arm again. He says she's hurting him. She's yelling. People are shushing them. She says she's worried about crashing. The disgusted lady behind them gives them an earful in Russian but all I get is "pozhalsta," aka "please." Fern doesn't understand it either and we aren't given captions for that so I guess it's a mystery. Fern politely agrees with her ("tiene usted toda la razon") and Lety whines some more. He tells her to look out the window - they're up in the air. She's impressed, but she really wants another tequila.
Mom and RoboPop watch TV in bed at home and talk about Lety being on an airplane. They remember their one trip to Puebla. He says travel is for the rich. She asks if he thinks they'll ever have the money to go on a nice trip. He doesn't know, but he only wants to do it if they can do it as a family.
Lety slams another tequila. She is now extremely "relaxed." She's singing some traditional Mexican song (I assume). He urges her to be quiet. She shushes in agreement - very loudly. And now she wants to go to the bathroom. He wants her to sleep. She insists on the bathroom and needs him to show her where it is before she starts climbing over the seats. She keeps flopping over as he guides her up the aisle. She lands on this one man and converses with him in English. He is very patient and gracious. She asks where he's from, and he says Nigeria. Fern apologizes (also in English), explaining she's drunk, as if he couldn't tell. She asks is he a teacher, what does he do for a living. Fern propels her along and she asks how much longer is this flight - he says it's just a mere nine more hours.
A few missteps and "disculpames" later, Lety is passed out cold.
I was bluffing about the steaks on the plane. I don't know what the first-class meal will be, and I doubt that Lety will be in any condition to eat it!
Monday: Mexico plays Angola; Luigi wears something sleeveless; Julie drools. Also some stuff about Marcia.

Heridas Friday Oct 6
Miranda and Pamela have a good old-fashioned man-hating party. The details are irrelevant. Lots of bitching. In this case Pamela has the right to be angry, but really even if she were totally wrong this scene would be the same. After the men suck part, they discuss Cesar selling his property to Luciano.
The scene again where Alejandro tells Gonz that he loves Miranda and wants to give her his shares as a wedding gift. Gonz says they’ll talk again tomorrow, for now Al should leave. Gonz asks what he did to cause Al to want to hurt him. Al just leaves.
Rebeca tells Miranda how much Cesar is hurting because he loves her, Miranda tries to be nice, but really should she care? Fern shows up Miranda yells at her “are you going to tell me that I’m not Gonzalo’s daughter either?” She snaps at Fern a bit more and rushes out.
Al and Daira are talking in his house, Luciano is there too, the men are smoking cigars. They go over (again) various things about Cesar, and about his selling the property, and Pamela, same old stuff. Also, with his father’s papers, Bertha can ruin Al. He says he needs to get married to Miranda soon before Bertha reappears.
Miranda, Fab, Flor, Pamela, and Nuria arrive in Tabasco and Miranda starts giving the help orders for this and that.
Vicente comes to talk to Gonz. Vicenta is ready to go to London. Gonz thinks he can get everything back – his company and his family. Vicente leaves and Al arrives. Gonz asks Al if he has told Miranda everything – Al’s face says no.
Miranda and Pamela are dressed in their country outfits now, taking a walk. They are going to talk to the help at the cacao plant, I think. They aren’t looking forward to it. I didn’t understand all the details of this particular conversation. The camera pans to Gabino and some other woman that works there. Miranda and Pamela catch up. Turns out there is a group of women standing there, they must be on strike or something. Miranda tells them that they are the only ones left and have only their hands to work with. The women start griping in the most lethargic way possible.
Back in Gonzalo’s office – Al explains that his actions against SLI were simply business. The conversation is longer, but that’s what it comes down to – it was just business. Nothing about his father or any of that. I was hoping we were getting somewhere towards the final showdown, but apparently not. Finally Gonz asks a tougher question – why are you protecting Fernanda? Al has to take a breath first, then explains “she and Bertha were friends of my mother, so when I came here I wanted to look out for her.” Gonz accepts this and moves on to business. Gonz starts talking business but Al says first he needs to settle the deal about him marrying Miranda. Gonz says he knows that they don’t need his permission, so he’ll just say that whatever happens, Al needs to make her happy. Al swears it will be that way.
Cesar shows up at Fern’s house and she is very happy to see him. She thanks him for telling Miranda about what happened way back when. They talk about some nothing for a few minutes. He tells her to count in him for help for anything. He then tells Fern that he knows that Miranda loves him but Al just confuses her. Fern sets him straight, Miranda loves Al, sorry buddy but that’s the way it is.
Back to Villahermosa in Tabasco. Flor and Nuria discuss being pregnant. Nuria complains that her baby daddy can’t be with her, Flor says why? Is he married? Nuria doesn’t answer. Have you noticed how often people just simply don’t answer questions? Now when my six year old ignores me I feel like he’s expecting a commercial break so he doesn’t have to answer.
Alejandro tells Luciano the story he told Gonz about why he acted against SLI and wants Luciano to play along. Lasagna overhears the end of the conversation. Al tells Luciano to prepare the papers for Lasagna to get her inheritance – Lasagna smiles and disappears. Since she’s gone, she doesn’t hear the last part. Luciano says “you’re going to give it to her?” Al says of course not, he just wants to know why and for who she needs the money so badly.
Renata is IN THE KITCHEN COOKING. And looks somewhat like she knows what she is doing. She’s on the phone with some friend at the same time, explaining that she’s making a surprise for Juan. Juan calls for her from the other room so she asks Erika to call her back in a bit. Juan walks in shirtless for all the lady viewers. He says, “what are you doing?” She says she’s making breakfast, so he should go take a shower and get ready. He says he better hurry up so he can help. She says NO – it’s one thing to have never cooked before, but it’s another thing to be incapable of cooking. So Juan get to the shower and let me be ok thanks. She takes a mournful look around the house, then says a prayer to the virgin. Then she cries a little, as required by novela contract. She tells the virgin she needs to find a way to prove her love to Juan, aaand there’s Juan eavesdropping. He steps away, no idea if he was touched by that or not.
Gonz is telling Bertha on the phone to get home right now. He has stuff to discuss with her. She is obviously giving him a hard time, he keeps having to say “now. I have to tell you some things. Get home. You don’t understand. Get back here.” Then he yells at her for never telling him about Flor not being his daughter. He says come back and give him some answers, or never come back. Click. Vicente arrives. Vicente says Al was right, people are calling and wanting their money back to go to Cesar’s company. They are offering better rates or something. Perhaps free toasters for opening accounts.
Flor gives Nuria advice on men. Hahaahahaahahahahahhahaahahahaahahahahahahaahaahahaha. Just the idea kills me. Nuria flashes back to an argument with Cesar, Flor has struck a nerve. Bertha calls Flor’s cell phone. Flor gushes to Nuria how great Bertha is. Nuria knows better, she decides to leave but faints when she gets up. Flor stands there like a complete idiot and makes no move to help or anything, just looks at her like she’s about to pop back up and say “just kidding!”
Miranda is still trying to win over the ladies at the cacao farm/grove/plantation/whatever it’s called. Now they are all on board, yes we can do it! I have no idea how they got to this point after the lame, bored protestations from before. Turns out those weren’t country outfits Miranda and Pamela were wearing, they were work clothes, matching what the other women are wearing. They all get to work.
Nuria woke up, Flor is giving her a tissue or something. Way to help. Flor says they need to see Fern, and when Juan returns he can take care of both of them.
Renata has breakfast all ready when Francisco and Amparo return from selling tacos and Juan is ready to eat. They don’t know what to think, but they sit down and Renata serves them. Turns out the food is pretty good. Renata flashes back to Miranda yelling at her for spending so much money and how she was such a brat about it. Now she is learning the other side of things. The flashback also includes a shot of old school Bertha. Back in the present she starts crying. Juan says tenderly, what’s wrong? The food is good, really! They all agree. She says great, thanks, gotta go and runs out. Francisco just about reaches over the table to slap Juan – “go after her you idiot! She’s your woman go help her!” So Juan goes and finds Renata in the other room crying. He is nice to her but not so warm like a husband would normally be, she asks how long he’s going to be so cold? He said “yesterday you said you’d give me time.” Ok, she says, fine. Oh, my Aunt Bertha gave me some money to buy clothes but I told her no, I don’t want that to come between us (her and Juan). Juan says buy whatever, it’s your money. She says no, it’s OUR money. Juan tells her to take Erika with her. He acts like he’s going to kiss her then, but ends up kissing her on the cheek, visibly distressing Renata. Then Juan leaves. I would have to say that this is the first scene in the entire show that actually pulled the emotion that it was trying to get from the viewer. I felt bad for Renata, the whole thing was quite a tender scene. Juan ruined it of course by still being too macho, but it appears that he’s softening.
Fern gets a phone call, it’s Flor. They catch up. Flor is happy to be on a transplant list, Fern says if the treatment is going so well she might not need a transplant at all. Flor asks when Juan is coming back. Uh, nobody told you? Juan and Renata got married. Flor’s eyes pop out of her head.
Some woman I don’t recognize walks up to the house at the hacienda. Oops it’s Miranda, looking like a wet dog. She put in a hard day’s work. She magnanimously tells Gabino that she has to work as hard as the other woman to keep their respect. He rightfully points out that they are used to the work, she needs to work her way up to it, physically. Pamela comes up saying her back hurts. Pamela.. why don’t you let me rub your back for you? Sorry back to the story. Miranda and Gabino discuss business, the cacao quality is lower than before apparently. She scribbles out some numbers for production targets, Gabino tells her she’s crazy, they can only do half that. She says we are gonna do it. Then she gets a determined look on her face that is probably supposed to look proud or something like that but she still looks like a wet dog.
Oh god kill me Cesar and Lasagna are at his place making out. She tells him everything she overheard between Al and Luciano. Bitch. I hate her now.
Some shadowy figure is telling Bertha on the phone, “yes Bertha. Everything her in Tabasco is ready.” It’s some guy with shaggy hair but we can’t see who it is. He tells her everything was done as she instructed.
Lasagna is checking out Cesar’s ceremonial sword that he keeps on display at his place. She’s soo surprised that Al could be that way! Oh my gawd! Cesar encourages her to doubt Al. “He lives a double life.” A lot more kissing. Bleah. The sad part is that Cesar is right, he’s not telling Miranda the truth. Lasagna tells Cesar the whole history of how Alejandro decided to come seek vengeance.
Al is reading poetry. SUuuuure he is. Oh senor dreamy you’re so deep you read poetry. Whatever. He then daydreams out loud about Miranda and how much he loves her. He hears her voice telling him she loves him over and over. He hears her yelling his name in his dream and drops his poetry book over the balcony. He comes out of his dream and she’s not there but he’s sure she is in trouble, he finds his cell phone to call her.
Rebeca tells Cesar about her discussion with Miranda the other day and what Miranda said about not loving Cesar like a man, etc. He looks over at Lasagna and tells Rebeca “gotta go, things I have to do.” Cesar asks Lasagna if everything Luciano bought (like his property and Julio’s shares) were for Alejandro, she says yes. He freaks out, throws his glass against the wall and starts hitting things with a short sword. Lasagna is a little afraid, but not enough in my opinion, she should be running for the door. Doubtless she will try and go console him, since that would be the dumbest thing to do.

Mundo de Fieras - Friday, 10/06/06
Chacal calls Tiberio to inform him that he’s finished the assignment; Tiberio smiles and sends a text-message to Damian that Raquel has been “taken care of” and Damian chortles evilly.
Regina calls her son, Juan to congratulate him during the awards dinner, but he’s been unsuccessfully looking for Paulina everywhere, missed his awards dinner and is somewhat distracted. He thanks his mom and hangs up. An embarrassed Mariela is there with her award and explains that after they ran off, both missed the dinner and acceptance of their awards. He takes the awards with him and continues searching for "Bella" through the next morning since he’s called the hotel and found out she never returned to their room. He finally gets a glimpse of Paulina getting onto a motor boat which is taking her to the opposite shore and screams at her not to leave him. She sees him just as she’s climbing in and cries to herself that she will never see him again. She apparently travels back to Barcelona.
Back at the hospital Mariangela is crying at her mother’s bedside and thinking she needs to find a good job to be able to pay for good hospice care for Aurora. Aurora wakes up and this time recognized her daughter and asks why she’s crying. Mariangela is excited to see her mother actually knows who she is.
At Gabriel’s mansion, Miriam and her hen-pecked husband, Clemente, are eating breakfast on the veranda. Clemente asks his wife if she’s considered his request to allow his daughter to come live there at the mansion-house. She feigns hurt and a sleepless night over the realization that he’s got a bastard daughter. Clemente tells her not to pretend with him; they both know she doesn’t care a whit for him. She reminds him it may be the case, but having a child outside the marriage is the greatest show of disrespect. However, she’s decided to be generous and allow her to live there as long as nobody knows she’s his bastard daughter. She’ll assign her a task and a salary. He’d better not try to change the rules of the agreement, either. Clemente agrees.
As Gabriel and Joselyn are chauffeured back home, Joselyn swears she’ll be a better mother and wife. Gabe reminds her she has promised this numerous times before. She says she only wants him to pay more attention to her: she wants him to forget everything else and dedicate himself to her. When he explains he has other obligations besides her she turns extremely jealous and repeatedly asks him if these other obligations mean: “the other woman”. He is exasperated (me too!) at her refusal to listen or, literally, to see reason.
Back in Barcelona Juan C. is wondering the best way to find "Bella" to give her her award since he only knows she’s a student here in the city.
At the Cruz Roja Mariangela tells her mother that a Don Clemente has offered to help her out and to allow her to live with him. This surprises her mother and she explains that the padre has suggested she accept his offer and consider him as a father. What does Aurora think of this? She says certainly do what the padre suggests. It will be for the best. Mariangela says fine, she will.
Miriam and her best friend, Ingrid, are arranging flowers for Joselyn’s return. Ingrid laughs at the thought of Clemente – the wrinkled old prune – having had a daughter from some earlier mistress of his. Miriam reminds her to stay quiet about the girl. Ingrid says, “Hey, I am like the tomb. If I’d have really wanted to harm you I could have told about the bastard baby son you abandoned at a church years ago. I wonder what has become of him, the child you had before Joselyn?” --“Shsh! I don’t care to remember!” is Miriam’s reply. (Co-o-old-hearted woman. I’m beginning to see deep-seated male-hatred issues here.)
Cut to the upper-middle class barrio street lined with gorgeous 40 foot palms. Leonardo and Silvestre (Alejandro Ruiz) are leaning on the hood of a car discussing Mariangela. She’s the first female that has made Leo feel the same as he did once with Vivana. A motorcycle gang drives up and we see Elsa, sitting behind El Chacal on his bike, stopped at the corner. Leo yells at her to get down off it and grabs her off the seat, yelling at her for hanging around with this group of low-lives. She tells him he has no right to order her around because he’s nothing to her but an adopted foundling her mother saw abandoned at some church. Elsa jumps back on. El Chacal sneers at him and the gang all laugh as they ride off. Leo tells his buddy that Elsa was right. He’s nothing but a foundling with no name and no claim.
Inside the kitchen of Gabe’s mansion, Candelaria is telling the maids over coffee how she loves both her children equally, despite Leo having been abandoned by his birth-mother. One of the women remarks that the woman must have been like a feral animal to have just left her baby that way!
Juan C. and Paulina come face to face at one of the beautiful plazas of downtown Barcelona.
Miriam warns Ingrid as they walk down the grandiose stairway that as far as that baby is concerned, being her accomplice, should that secret ever become known, she’ll go down along with Miriam. Luisito comes oh-so cheerfully into the front hall yelling excitedly that his mother has finally come back from the hospital. Karen, aggravated at the noise, tells him to quiet down and Grandpa Clemente suggests to them all to try to be a harmonious group to keep Joselyn from having a relapse. Miriam agrees “for once” as a smiling Jocelyn comes gliding into the room, arms up in angel-winged sweatered-sleeves all spread-eagled, with wounded wrists up to insure nobody misses them, nor the “martyred angel” to whom they belong. (She’s definitely hamming it and enjoying the attention!) Luisito runs to her and she pushes him off a bit telling him not to bump her. When Gabe mentions he only is glad to see his ailing mother, she feigns a warm kiss to his sweet young forehead. (I sense another female with similarly deep-seated male-hatred issues here.) Then the glowing, golden blonde Joselyn glides over to the couch and “receives court,” but just as she gets good and comfy on the couch the dark-haired beauty, Mariangela, appears in the doorway with suitcase in hand. Uh-oh!! The talk stops and all eyes turn to the new face in the doorway. (Lots of appropriate beastly snarling in the background here.)
She announces to Don Clemente that if his offer still stands, then she will accept and will live there as he offered. Don Clemente, forever with a lit cigarette butt either dangling at his side or out of his lips, turns and walks over to her. (Heck, If I were married to Miriam all those years I’d chain smoke, too!) Graciously he receives Mariangela and offers to take her to Candelaria. He even carries her suitcases for her!
Gabe swallows, thinking probably that it’s starting to get really warm in there. Joselyn sours and asks who that woman is supposed to be as Miriam escorts her daughter up to her bedroom. The others leave also as Rogelio stares after Mariangela and Karen wonders aloud who she is. He answers she is just a servant Grandfather hired, and then muses that she’s just way too pretty. Gabe hears this and seemingly sees this could be a problem with his married son and even with himself. (She is way too pretty and innocent to be thrown in with all these hot-blooded beasties.) Upstairs Miriam promises Joselyn to make the new competition miserable so that she leaves quickly.
Back in Barcelona Paulina refuses to listen to Juan C.’s explanations or declarations of love and marriage. She runs away and he decides to follow her secretly back to where she lives. Later she’s crying about their broken relationship. All of a sudden there’s a knock at the door and its a serenading troupe of costumed college kids presenting her with her award and a love song while Juan C. waits down below on the street. She runs them off and throws a bucket of cold water down on Juan’s head. (Loved this scene!)
Leo, the medical student, visits Mariangela’s mother, Aurora, since she's his mother’s best friend, at the hospital and asks her about her symptoms. He promises to discuss it with the doctors there.
Mariangela visits with Luisito and finds out that he’s crippled and has gone through numerous operations and much therapy, but with no improvement. She personally promises to help him walk again. She explains that she used to be a schoolteacher back home. Miriam walks in on them and refuses to allow her to work with her grandson, but Gabe walks in and says that if his son wants Mariangela as his nanny, then that’s what she’ll be. Miriam grumps and leaves.
Calendaria comes to the hospital to visit Aurora. She tells her not to worry that Don Clemente has brought Mariangela to the house and she’ll be looking after his grandson. However, they won’t be telling anyone about who she is because it would cause too big a stir in the house and would obviously embarrass her. Also, she says, Don Clemente is here to speak with Aurora. She doesn’t want to talk to him after all this time, but he rushes in and insists. He begins to cry and ask her forgiveness for having been such a coward all these years. Aurora does forgive him.
Gabe and Mariangela walk out into the hallway and she tells him that his son has stolen her heart. They laugh and she says she wants to take the opportunity to apologize for slapping him the other day in the street. He laughs and says he probably deserved it. Anyway, he hopes she stays around as he knows it will not be easy for her there in that house. He tells her that many times he thinks it is not just a house but a world of wild beasts and walks off.
Up in Joselyn’s bedroom Ingrid, Miriam and Joselyn are brooding and Jos is pacing in circles. Miriam tells her daughter to stop it ‘cause she’s acting like a caged animal. Jos says that’s how she feels. Now she’s got this girl there, so of course she’s upset. She whines that her husband wouldn’t listen when she asked him to devote himself to her totally from now on. Ingrid tells her that with that attitude she’s going to scare him away! Miriam advises her to act more intelligently with her husband, like she’s done with her father all these years. Clemente is nothing without her she says.
Downstairs Gabe warns Miriam against mistreating or humiliating the new girl. Miriam answers that he should be worried more about his wife than this stranger. He answers that he’s worried for years, but to no avail. She says it’s his fault for the accident that changed Jocelyn forever. If she’s ill, then he has only to blame himself and walks off.
Joselyn throws the picture of her and Gabe at the wall and sinks into one of her jealous rages and wonders why her husband doesn’t love her. She begins throwing things all around, runs into the closet and takes a scissors to all of his shirts. Her little boy hobbles in on his crutches and asks what she’s doing. Still in a daze and ripping shirts she knocks him off balance and he falls crying to the floor. She ignores him because she’s apparently really in her own world intent on now hiding Gabe’s ripped up shirts.
Regina is telling Simona, that she is meeting Damian for lunch. Simona is worried for her and suggest she just stay home. Regina is determined to keep the relationship going for the sake of their son, Juan C. Simona suggests she tell her son how rotten her husband has been treating her all these years. She refuses saying she doesn’t want Juan to suffer and walks out. Damian is on the phone in his office telling Tiberio that the business with Raquel is not over yet and orders him to do as he’s instructed him. Tiberio calls up the police from a pay phone and tells them he has information regarding the lover of Raquel Rodriguez, the woman who was murdered the other night.
In the meantime, Mariangela goes to visit her mother but thinks the worst when she sees the room completely empty and her mother nowhere in sight. Rogelio is shocked reading in the newspaper about Raquel’s death when the doorbell rings and the police come in and arrest him for her murder.
In Barcelona Juan C. is yelling to himself about who the heck that girl thinks she is and that someone needs to teach that little wild animal a lesson. His mother calls to say hi and that she’s going into his dad’s office and is meeting him for lunch. There’s no secretary outside so she figures she’ll just go in unannounced. She says good-bye and hangs up. Regina opens the door and there is said absent secretary on Damian’s lap and the two are kissing each other hot and heavy.

Advice of which I am reminded while watching "Mundo de Fieras"
(Traditional Calypso song)
If you want to be happy, live a king's life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
All you’ve got to do is just what I say
Then you'll be happy, merry and gay
And from a logical point of view
Marry a woman uglier than you
A pretty woman makes her husband look small
And very often cause his downfall
As soon as she’s married, an affair she start
To do all those things that will break your heart
And when you think she’s belonging to you
She's calling somebody else to do
So from a logical point of view
Marry a woman uglier than you
If you want to live a long and happy life
Avoiding consternation and marital strife
For a logical man this is easy to do
When you marry a woman uglier than you
But if you make an ugly woman your wife
You’ll be so happy all of your life
She wouldn’t do things in a funny way
Just to give the neighbours something to say
She wouldn't disregard her husband at all
By exhibiting herself to Peter and Paul
So, from a logical point of view
Marry a woman uglier than you
If you want to live a long and happy life
Avoiding consternation and marital strife
For a logical man this is easy to do
Just marry a woman
Marry a woman
Uglier than you

Mundo de Fieras, Thursday Oct 5
In Venice, Paulina is on the phone with her dad. She tells Gabriel she has something important to tell him. Across the bridge, Demian calls JC. They get into an argument about the way D treats JC’s mom.
Tiberio & Demian are talking in their office about how JC puts D in a bad mood. D calls Regina to tell her that he called ‘her son’, they argue and another call ends with a slammed phone. I hope you never betray me, D warns Tiberio.
In Jocelyn’s hospital room, Karen shows Miriam the picture of JC. Miriam and Jocelyn talk about how much he’s changed. The three ladies then have a little gossip fest, first criticizing Regina and her “absurd story” and then starting in on Diana and Rogelio’s marital woes.
Diana is remembering her conversation with Jocelyn and we see Chacal surreptitiously take her picture with an evil grin.
Candelaria is reflecting that she couldn’t tell Clemente that Mariangela is his daughter.
Leonardo is driving David, Aurora and Mariangela to the hospital.
At Cervantes Bravo, Gabriel’s office, Gabriel is talking to (what's his name???) about poor Luisito and his wife that he can’t leave because she’ll kill herself. Regina was his first love, and he loved her with his whole heart. You’ll never believe what D thinks, he suspects that JC is my son.
Demian asks Tiberio how things are going with Chacal.
Wee see Chacal in “the wardrobe” preparing to disguise himself.
Diana confronts Raquel at her apartment. A catfight ensues. The maid watches. Diana threatens her and leaves.
Federico is visiting Jocelyn, bringing her chocolates. Jocelyn tells him that he treats her better than her own father. He thinks, if you only knew that I am your real father.
Clemente arrives at Aurora’s house, sees the burned out house and learns that he has missed seeing her by hours. The taxi driver he asks doesn’t know where she went.
At the hospital, Mariangela and Leonardo talk about Aurora’s illness. He tells her not to lose her faith in God.
Gabriel & ??? have moved their conversation to a bar. At the end of the conversation it comes up that Paulina is adopted but nobody but the two of them know. I guess that solves the hermano-primo issue (unless of course it doesn’t…;).
JC and Paulina are all dressed up and ready for the award ceremony.
Clemente and Candelaria go to the hospital to visit Aurora.
Miriam & Jocelyn are talking in the hospital. Gabriel comes in and sees JC’s picture…”my nephew”.
At the awards ceremony, JC is called away by a mystery woman. Paulina looks anxious.
The maid is leaving Raquel’s apartment. Raquel opens the door to who she thinks is Diana, but is actually Chacal in his disguise. He throws her off the balcony and makes sure that people see him flipping his hair back and forth like Diana might. The maid takes the bait.
Meanwhile, Diana is with someone establishing an alibi and complaining about her marriage.
Karen asks Rogelio where his wife is and then asks why he even married her. Miriam hears the maid saying that Clemente went somewhere with Candelaria and wonders where…
To the hospital of course! Clemente meets Mariangela and ominous music and close-ups ensue.
Demian, Regina & Tiberio are eating dinner when the maid comes in with the telephone, reminding Regina to call JC. Demian refuses to allow her to do that.
JC is with the ‘mystery woman--Marisa,’ explaining that he’s not interested any more. Marisa sneaks a kiss with JC and Paulina sees. She runs off and she chases him.
Candelaria breaks the news to Clemente (with Miriam listening in) that Mariangela is his son. Clemente is wondering why she never told him before. He says that despite his past errors, he is going to take care of her now. Miriam is not so sure that’s going to happen. (She doesn’t share well with others.) Without filling her in on the salient details, Clemente invites Mariangela to live at his house. Leonardo happily drives Mariangela and David home, while Clemente is beside himself with joy.
Miriam comes home and asks Rogelio where Diana is.
He doesn’t forgive you for your past. Diana is thinking of getting a divorce, she can’t take anymore of it—she just wants her dignity back.
Clemente comes home and tells Miriam about his other daughter, Mariangela. Miriam is not pleased. She is thinking to herself that she
Mariangela has a tearful goodbye with David on a street corner (of all places). Leonardo looks on in adoration. She meets with the priest and tells him about her plan to look for work in the capital. He advises her to accept Clemente’s help and tells her that he could love her like her real father. Um, yeah.
Diana arrives home crying, Pedro asks her what’s wrong. She tells him that he’s so nice and wonderful with a good heart…he looks like he’s getting all dreamy about her. Rogelio comes down the stairs, starts an argument and then slaps Diana (he’s not going to be getting an Emmy for that any time soon). Rogelio finishes up by telling Pedro that no woman is ever going to think of him as a man because he’s nothing.
Gabriel kisses Luisito goodnight and letting him know that Jocelyn is coming home the next day. Luisito asks the big question….You love mom, right dad? Gabriel doesn’t have an answer.
In Venice, Paulina is feeling sorry for herself and JC finds her and lets her know that he loves her, wants to marry her and wants to know what her name is.

La Fea Más Bella #118 10/5/06 "Lety, Lety. Mi Lety"
Fernando pleads with Julieta, telling her how much he needs Lety as his secretary. Julieta says he needs to convince her husband. Fernando tells her that Erasmo doesn’t think that Conceptos is a good place for Lety. He tells her that, for him, Conceptos is a business that offers support, protection and friendship. Saimon interrupts and asks if he says that for them. Of course, Saimon. Fernando tells Julieta that when he accepted to do the commercial, he did not have a production team; he had nothing. Then the cuartel came and offered their help. (Erasmo and Lety listen in to this conversation). Irmita says that its all for him. He tells Julieta that in one day the cuartel converted themselves into a production team and they did an excellent job. The cuartel thanks him for his comments. He tells Julieta that to work at Conceptos, everyone gives one hundred percent. The cuartel affirms. Fernando walks over to the cuartel and puts his arms around Lola and Martha. He says that Lety is a fundamental part of the team, with all her enthusiasm. He says the only that’s wrong with the picture of him standing with the cuartel is that she’s not present.
Back at Conceptos, Celso reappears! (I had to think to remember his name since it’s been so long since we’ve seen him.) He has a flashlight headband on, and walks over to Alicia who doesn’t see him walk up to her. She is, of course, upset and asks what he’s doing there, acting stupid. He says he misses everyone. She tells him to go back to work. He takes off his flashlight and walks away with a lost look on his face.
Fernando walks over to Julieta and asks her to come sit. She’s worked hard enough; he and the cuartel will clean. The cuartel unenthusiastically agree. Fernando asks Irmita to organize the clean-up. He walks over to Erasmo and says he sorry, but Erasmo asks Fernando to pardon him instead. Erasmo knows that he was intolerable. He says that he would be very proud if Fernando will let Lety to continue to work for him. Lety gives her father a big hug and then Fernando hugs him too. Julieta looks on, gleefully. Gerardo call everyone over so that he can take a picture of the production team. The cuartel is really happy about the picture. Instead of cheese, they say whiskey. Gerardo takes a photo of the Padilla-Solis’s. Saimon asks for a picture of Fernando and Lety. Gerardo tells Fernando to give Lety an embrace. Fernando complies. Gerardo takes one more photo of the two. Notice the look on Erasmo’s face.
The cuartel packs up Erasmo’s car. Julieta looks on while Erasmo helps tie the table to the top of the car. Lety and Fernando walk over to each other. He asks her if she thought it was a difficult day. She says it was a difficultly difficult day. He smiles. But it all went well in the end. (Cue the romantic music). Now we both have a picture of just the both of us. Fernando proudly holds up his picture, goofy smile and all. (Sigh… ) She feels bad about her look next to him. He says it’s going to making him really mad if she keeps making jokes about herself. She protests. It wasn’t a joke; it’s the truth He asks her to come to his house. The last time was pretty well destroyed. Lety says she can’t; she feels culpable because she feels bad for Marcia. Her dad calls and tells her that it’s time to go. She says to Fernando that she doesn’t want to get her dad mad again. She thinks the best thing would be to go home with her parents. He says that he understands perfectly. They an do it another day. Erasmo calls her again. I’ll see you tomorrow she says. Yeah, tomorrow he replies. She walks away back to the car looking back at him over her shoulder. “Lety, Lety; my Lety. Your love moves me. I’ve never felt what I’m feeling now. Never.” He wave over his shoulder. (Once again I’m sighing… my heart fluttering… ay, Fernando you poor fool, you’ve fallen completely and you don’t even now how much…yet)
Back at Conceptos, the first thing we hear out of Alicia’s mouth is “Good night, witches.” She packs her purse and walks away. She calls the cuartel a few more names, but they’re not there. The phone rings as she gets on the elevator. It’s Teresita and Humberto. They want to talk to Lety. Alicia tells them that she’s not here, none of the employees are except for her. Humberto can’t believe that she’s not there. Teresita asks what time Lety will return. Will she back tomorrow? Alicia says she thinks so, but she (Alicia) is there right now to help them with whatever they need. She’s very insufficient. Teresita and Humberto think it would be a bad idea to say anything to Alicia, she’ll tell Marcia. They tell Alicia to have Lety call them at their house in Lety. Alicia asks what’s going on. Teresita says that only Lety can help them. Alicia thinks that Lety hasn’t deposited their monthly payment (I’m assuming this is like a pension) and that she can get Lety to put the money there for them immediately. She asks Teresita to give Humberto a kiss for her. She hangs up and complains about Lety all the way to the elevator.
Back at the Padilla house Lety tells her mother how happy her work at Conceptos makes her. Tomas and Erasmo enter. Lety tells her mom how she talked to her father face to face about her job and that she stood up to him without any fear. Okay, maybe a little fear. Julieta says she’s happy because everything went well. Lety thanks Julieta for everything she does. Julieta thanks her in turn for letting her be around such great people. They both tell each other how proud they are of the other, and of Erasmo. The men enter with the last of the packages. Erasmo tells Tomas that he was no help all day. He showed up at the club and then just disappeared. Tomas runs over to Lety. He wants to talk to her. Erasmo tells them to leave the door open. “Like always!” Lety replies. Julieta asks Erasmo how he’s feeling, it was an emotional day. Julieta tells him that Lety told her that she was proud of her. He tells her how much he loves her.
Tomas and Lety talk in her bedroom. Lety thinks that Tomas is going to say he’s sorry for going into the club. He says yes, but he also wants to know if his girlfriend was in the commercial. He imagines her in underwear on a horse. Lety laughs and says that will image will have to remain in his imagination. Alicia is not in the commercial, but she did get on the horse… in a waitress’s uniform. Tomas thinks she looked spectacular in the waitress outfit. Tomas asks how Alicia looked on the horse, but Lety tells him that she didn’t see it. Lety tells Tomas that Alicia could not be in the commercial because she’s not a model. Tomas counters by saying that Alicia is the best model in the whole world. Lety begs off. She’s very tired. Tomas goes on about Alicia some more. Lety tells Tomas that Alicia usually acts either without thinking or to bother Lety. She rushes him out the door. Tomas peeks in and says “I love you, Boss.” Lety tells him she loves him too. Next, she whips out the diary. She says that Fernando is divine.
Back at his house Fernando looks at the photo of him and Lety and calls her an enchantress. He does a cute little impression and then the phone rings. I wonder who it will be. It’s Marcia. Fernando’s tone with her has completely changed. It’s not even like he’s irritated; it’s more like he doesn’t know what to say.
Lety writes in her dictionary at home. She wonders why she’s left with such an ugly feeling after such a good day. Because of Marcia! She goes back to thinking about the day. When Fernando hugged her, she was so happy! She drops the picture when she lays on her bed. She remembers that Fernando said that he loved her. Back to Marcia.
Fernando is talking with Marcia. He had a difficult day and he’s tired. He assures her that he was thinking about her all day. Back at home Lety talks about how she’s always thinking about Fernando. Fernando continues to talk about the wedding with Marcia while he looks at Lety’s picture. He holds the phone away from him and tells Marcia that all he thinks about is there wedding. Lety talks about how she feels culpable for Fernando’s problems with Marcia. Back at the Mendiola house Fernando continues to talk with Marcia about the wedding. He turns the portrait of Marcia around and places the photo of him and Lety against the back of it. Lety wonders how she came to this point. At first her feelings became stronger just because. No she wants to love him always. At first she thought that she was the only one in love, and she was fine with saying nothing to anybody. It wasn’t hurting anybody. She picks up the photo. But now Fernando is in love with her. How could she possible resist the love of a man like him? She can’t. He’s so desirable, seductive and handsome! She’s not going to fight something so marvelous. His love makes her feel less ugly, less insignificant. She feels like a queen. How can she turn her back on a man like that? on her happiness? More tears as Lety clutches the photo of the two of them. Fernando goes to his bedroom. He throws his suit jacket down and comments that none of the three (Marcia, Lety, Fernando) are happy. He sits in his red chair by the window. Lety continues to write in her diary about the chore she is doing for Teresita; how it’s causing her so much pain. This makes her feel more culpable for being between Marcia and Fernando.
The day of the commercial has passed (Can we all say YYAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!) Celso, Saimon and PM are in the reception area celebrating Mexico. It’s World Cup time! Saimon says that the Mexican team is marvelous and ready to fight. They’re going to beat Angola! Celso asks where is Angola? Saimon answers that it’s in Africa by Namibia and the Congo. Celso teases Saimon, but Saimon says that he’s right. He’s educated and he knows where Angola is, and he’s right; he did know the location. Go Saimon! (I cheated and looked it up on Wikipedia) They cheer again. Lety enters, waiving her arms. PM has a bit of information for Lety. Lety asks what it is. PM tells her that someone, who was not Marcia, got Fernando out of bed this morning. Lety looks confused. PM tells her that Fernando is already there and has been talking with Ricardo. He’s waiting for Lety. Lety thinks that this can not mean anything good. She runs over to the elevator. The party starts again.
Lola is worried that Ricardo is here because he didn’t like the commercial. Martha, eating already, asks if she really thinks so. Lola says that Ricardo is here to tell Fernando that Conceptos is a disaster. Martha gasps. Irmita tries to calm her and says that he could be here for another reason. Sara asks what it could be. The cuartel tells Lety that Ricardo has been with Fernando since early in the morning. They want to know why. Lety says she doesn’t know anything, but PM told her that Fernando needs her. They rush into his office. Lety wonders what it could be as well.
Inside his office Fernando is saying “It cannot be. It cannot be. This is terrible, brother.” Ricardo says there is no other way. Lety comes in and says good morning. Fernando tells her that he’s been waiting hours for her. Why was she late? Lety says that this is her normal hour to come into work. She’ll come in a little earlier tomorrow. Fernando apologizes; he’s nervous. Ricardo says they’ve been her since five. Lety wants to know what is so urgent. Fernando gets up and sits Lety in his chair. He tells her that Conceptos has an opportunity. Lety’s happy because it means more work for Conceptos; it’s not anything bad. She tells them that cuartel was very nervous. Right at that moment the noise of the party for the soccer team wafts into the office. Fernando says he can tell that they were very nervous. Lety says they’re also excited about the game.
Irmita runs over to Saimon and PM and tells them to be quiet. Fernando is in a meeting. Saimon yells about the game. The cuartel talks about the game with Angola. They’re mad because they won’t be able to watch. They’ll be in the office working. Irmita says that soccer doesn’t interest her. Sara suggest that Fernando may possibly let them watch the game at the office. They cheer for Mexico.
Lety asks if she can get out of his chair. It’s weird sitting there. He tells her to stay put. He’s nervous. Lety says that the cuartel will help him with the extra work. Fernando says he needs to explain something to her. A publicity company in Munich, Germany wants to publish a Mexican campaign. I asked my German husband what the word they’re trying to say is, but all I got was a blank stare. Guess he’s not as into Fea as I am. It’s a multi-thousand dollar campaign. Hundreds of thousands. Lety says that this is excellent news. Fernando says there’s a problem. The company in Munich is contracting with another Mexican company. Lety catches on that there’s a possibility that Conceptos could take over the contract. Ricardo says that he was very impressed with Conceptos and think they have a great possibility of landing the contract. Lety asks Fernando to sit in his chair again. He tells her to stay there. She frowns. She says she doesn’t understand why this is making him so nervous and bothered. Because he has to go to Germany today. If he doesn’t, the agency will sign with another company and the opportunity for Conceptos will be lost. Lety doesn’t believe him. She points out that he can ask Marcia to go over to the agency. Alicia enters and promptly introduces herself to Ricardo. He kisses her hand. Fernando asks her why she’s in his office. He tells her that he has told her many times to knock before she comes into his office. He doesn’t need any coffee; why is she there? She tries to explain, but he’s not interested and tells her to leave. He sits Lety back down in his seat. Ricardo and Fernando tell Lety that they need Fernando, as the president of the company, to go convince the agency to sign with Conceptos. Because he’s the president, only he can sign the contract. She squeaks out that she understands that he needs to go and hangs her head. He starts to talk and then asks her what’s wrong. She tries to waive it off, just her nerves. He says that she knows that he can’t go to Germany without her. Duh! She has to go with her. Lety gets a constipated look on her face and then excuses herself to her office to drop off her stuff. Ricardo and Fernando continue to talk.
Lety is convinced that she imagined Fernando asked her to go. She repeats him asking her in her head. Fernando yells for her to come back out to his office. She’s freaking. It’s impossible for her to go so far away with him. Her mother… her father! He yells again and she comes out. She says she doesn’t believe what he just said. He says that, yes, he’s going to need her in Germany. She’s not so sure. He assures her that no only will he need her, she’ll be indispensable. Even Ricardo says that they need her to go with Fernando. She asks why. Fernando squeaks out his line. Does Lety really want him to explain to her how the office functions? Who always reviews the contracts that he signs? She remembers another time when she reviewed a contract for Conceptos. I didn’t watch the show from the beginning but I’m guessing this is the infamous contract that created Filmo Imagen? Back then the guy questioned her authority to review the contract. Fernando simply asked if it was okay, and then signed it. Back in present day Mexico, Lety smiles. Then she asks Fernando how is he going to take her. She’s never been out of the country, not even out of Mexico City minus her trip to Puebla. Ricardo says that his company can organize it no problem. He tries to calm her. Lety asks Fernando to come with her to his office. He asks why. So I can talk to you. Once they get into her office she tells him that he should know that her father will not permit her to go with him to Germany. Fernando says this is impossible, she has to convince him! You know him, he’s moderately conservative. Moderately? Moderately? A little more than moderately, no?? She has to tell him that she’s going to be working on something very important for herself and Conceptos. Plus, he needs her with him in Munich. She points out that Marcia will be there. “So what?” he says back. We’re doing this for work. Yeah, but you know how Marcia is. She’s going to think that I only came because for you. He tells her not to start. She says that she’s not worried about Marcia, she’s worried for herself. “For yourself?” he asks. Her conscience is not abated about Marcia. She doesn’t to be working in a circle with the tree of them. Fine, we’ll organize the trip so that she won’t know that we’re there. “How?” “Germany is very large.” “Yes, but we’re going to the same city!” “Germany is big! She won’t know we went there.” Besides, the possibility of running into Marcia is remote. They’ll go directly to the publicity agency. She’s still not very convinced. He begs her; he needs her….
Am I the only one who got chills when Fernando called Lety "his Lety"?
Will Erasmo give his permission for Lety to go to Germany?
Will Lety get on the plane and go with Fernando?
Will my nice German husband help me with the scenes in Germany? (I'm thinking "no")
Have a great weekend everyone! I'll see you on Monday!

La Fea Más Bella #117 10/4/06 A false start, but a smooth finish
Squeaky meets with Sleazar. He looks unkempt and is drinking and smoking. They discuss some things, including the bet. I think he lusts for her.
Gonzo is giving a press conference from his office. I don't know what it's about. It's very brief. He dismisses the reporters, and they're dissatisfied. He reaches for some brandy, and shares it with some twerpy guy named Señor Sartori. They negotiate. He offers Mr. Twerpy the presidency of SLI.
I'm lost and get my dinner out of the microwave.
Cesar gets into a scuffle with some dude(s) on the street.
I realize that I don't watch Heridas, and that I've possibly had too much wine.
Some time later...
Pilar calls her friend and says yep, I knew it. Fern is Pavel. He just told me. No, he didn't say why. I'm going to find out why he dumped me for that ugly girl.
RoboPop says we're leaving NOW. He starts packing up their things. He explains to the cuartel that this place isn't suitable for his daughter. The Padillas are decent people.
Lety pulls her father aside and wants to know how he knows about Fern's lover. He says it doesn't matter, he just wants them out of here.
Martha is upset to see the Mom's mole leaving. Lola flips out as usual. RoboPop asks Lola to help them pack up their stuff. Lety protests - we're not leaving till we're finished working. She stomps off and privately frets aloud about her father's claim that Fern has a lover. She hopes he has misunderstood something. She debates all this with a tree which is coincidentally named Leticia. It's a somewhat one-sided debate. She wants to confront Fern about this.
Relampago is being prepped for Pilar's wild ride. Fern reminds Gerardo that it's going to be a one-take effort. Lety approaches. She wants to talk to Fern right away. He tries to brush her off - he's too busy. She gets snippy and mentions her father. Fern says Lety's father makes things needlessly difficult. She doesn't like that either. And along comes Pilar, glowing, telling Lety that Fern admitted to being Pavel. "What do you think of that, Lety?"
Lety tries to reply, but Fern interrupts. He wants to get to work. Lety demands to know what's going on. Pilar asks Fern why he lets Lety speak to him that way. As he backs away from Pilar, he furtively tries to explain it all to Lety with gestures, mouthed words, and eye-rolling. She catches on and tries not to crack a smile.
The feas wonder why RoboPop is so upset. PM and Saimon think it might be because he caught them groping and smooching. Irma lectures them. PMS approach RoboPop and apologize for their behavior. That's when they find out that it's Fern, not PMS, that he's unhappy with, because he says he wants Fern to apologize to him personally. He goes on and on about the filth of the world and so forth. Lola and Sara mutter to one another how it's a good thing he doesn't know they're doing an underwear commercial. RoboPop goes on to say that he wants Lety to quit Conceptos. He goes away to look for her.
He finds her over by the cameras. He points out to Lety Fern's alleged lover - Pilar. Lety tries to explain that they're not really lovers. She admits that she's aware of what's going on - he's lying to Pilar. So, now RoboPop's upset that Fern is a liar! Lety explains more about the situation (the "double life" story was her idea) and that they needed to tell her something to get her to ride the horse. Now he's upset that she's not upset about lying. Also, he has a headache. She protests some more, and he says fine, finish your commercial... but you're quitting this morning.
Fern takes a walk so he can do his Daily Rehash with Omar. Omar's in a bar with a couple of bimbos who smirk at one another but show no other signs of personality. Fern says he's worried about Lety. Omar, who still hasn't figured out yet that Fern likes Lety, thinks it's good for Lety to be a little jealous, but Fern isn't so sure. And he asks Omar to stop calling her "gargoylita." (Omar pauses to snort at one of his companions. She is charmed.) Fern tells Omar that the commercial is the least of his problems - Lety is more important. He doesn't want her to suffer.
Lety is sulking in a different tree (not Leticia), suffering. She is wondering if Fern could lie to her the way he's lying to Pilar. Just then, he comes walking by, and she asks him! He says no, of course not. She says he lies to Marcia, he lies to Pilar... why not lie to her too? Where would he draw the line? Something about telling his parents and the whole world about her lien on Conceptos.
He says that with her, he's as transparent as water. He has no secrets, no lies, no deceptions. She says she believes him, and will always trust him. Kis--
--but then she snaps out of it. She's just been standing there in front of him. He wants to explain about Pilar. He apologizes, and she explains that her father overheard him talking to Pilar, and now he's mad at both Lety and Fern and wants her to quit.
Oh, I finally get what this Pavel Pardo thing is about. Pavel Pardo is a famous soccer player. So that's why Fern keeps saying "Pavel Pardo" and talking about (not) being a soccer player. Duh. Anyway.
The feas discuss RoboPop's anger with Mom. They want to know what's so bad about Conceptos, and how there's probably not going to be any other place that he'll approve of either. Mom says she loves him with all her heart, but honestly, he can be so... so... old-fashioned? the feas suggest.
RoboPop approaches and says you can loaf some other time - it's almost time to eat. The feas cheer. Fern yells into a bullhorn, saying we're going to start. The feas all leave for the shooting area, leaving Mom and RoboPop. And Mom wants him to stick around to help her prepare to serve the food.
Ricardo wishes Fern luck. The feas wonder why Pilar is calling Fern Pavel. Lety explains. Pilar steps towards Fern, tosses her cape back, revealing her black "ropa interior," and says she needs a kiss for bravery. Lety twitches. Fern looks at Pilar the way he used to look at Lety. PM calls Saimon over. Saimon tells Pilar that Fern is a professional and can't go around kissing people for his clients, or something like that. Whatever - Pilar agrees to do it without the kiss.
Fern helps her up on the horse. Fern thanks Saimon. Saimon asks about a pay increase, but Fern can't discuss that right now. :-)
Mom tries to reason with RoboPop about the lying. He gets mad again and wants to go fetch Lety. Mom gives him some work to keep him out of trouble. He doesn't want to do it. He wants to find Lety. Now Mom says she doesn't have any sugar for the coffee. She asks him to go get him some, and while he's there (at the clubhouse I guess) perhaps he could catch up with his friends.
Now he KNOWS she's up to something. He asks why she doesn't want him to go see Lety. She says whuh, no, sure, you can go see Lety whenever you want. He says good - he'll go see her now. She tries to get him to come back, but he's gone.
Lety has an idea for the shot. She suggests slightly different cinematography to make it look more dramatic. Fern loves the idea and says she never stops surprising him. Everyone else loves the idea too. They set it up.
Pilar trots the horse up the path and throws her cape off. Just as it's hitting the ground, RoboPop runs into the frame, picks it up and tries to give it back to her. He's a little drunk, still, and he seems more worried that she'll catch a cold than anything else.
Everyone gapes. Fern says "I can't believe this." You really have to see this to get the full effect.
Mom prays out loud in the chow tent. It's a prayer to St. Jude - patron saint of lost causes. She prays that the commercial goes well and that her husband doesn't ruin it with his yelling.
RoboPop is ruining it with his drunken yelling. "Why didn't you tell me it was an underwear commercial?" Lety says she didn't think he'd like it. PM tries to tell him it's no big deal, but that annoys him further.
Mom shows up. I guess she decided to give St. Jude a little help. RoboPop asks if she knew that this was going to be an ad for intimate apparel. She says yes, and isn't it all so nice? The beautiful horse, the golf course, all the trees... Fernando, isn't it going to be nice? There, see, it's all good, let's go and let them work. He says he's not moving. The cuartel surrounds him and guides him away from the location.
Mom takes RoboPop back to the clubhouse to drink with his friends. She's very friendly to them this time and they welcome him like they've known him for a hundred years.
The commercial is re-shot. Pilar rides the horse, throws off the cape, plays with the horse's mane, walks around, climbs a tree, rides the horse some more... CUT! That's it! Technically that was two takes, but the first one didn't really count. (Apparently, Alicia's horseback tour of Santa Paz wore Relampago out.) Ricardo is thrilled. Everyone is thrilled. Saimon helps Pilar off the horse and goes on and on about how great she was, annoying PM who gets a little jealous. Mom yells that it's time for mole!
Fern and Lety hug and congratulate one another. "La amo, Lety," he says - but he says it in the same tone of voice that I'd say "I love you" to a coworker who brought me a donut. Still, it's progress. :-) He apologizes for his behavior, she forgives him, and they eat. Ricardo congratulates Fern again. Fern points out that they did it all without Luigi. Ricardo wants to see the first cut as soon as possible. He has to leave without eating.
Martha is pleased with the food. Everyone is. Mom brings a plate to Fern. He says it smells great. Pilar, who is clamped firmly to his arm, calls him Pavel in front of Mom and everyone, and suggests that they formalize their relationship. The crew members clap and cheer. Lety's face twitches like crazy.
Back at the bar, RoboPop is enjoying his drink, but still wants to talk about all the lying and such. His pals tell him they know Fern's dad Humberto Mendiola very well, they've been playing golf with him for years, and he's a good and honest man. RoboPop says Fern is a liar. He gets up from the table and says he's going to take his wife and daughter home. His friends detain him and tell him to forget about it. They get him to drink some more.
Lety is rehashing the Fern/Pavel stuff to the cuartel again. They discuss how they might convince Pilar that Fern is not Pavel. Lety mentions how he dumped her for an ugly girl. One of them says, "that could be any of us." Sara has an idea. They huddle and she tells them her idea. We don't get to hear it, but we find out that Lety doesn't approve!
Pilar is on the phone with her friend again. She says he didn't answer her about formalizing the relationship. And more I couldn't get.
The cuartel meet with Saimon in the parking lot and prepare their scheme. Saimon is confused, and they won't tell him what they're doing. There is more in this scene that I don't get. I think the mannequins are mentioned - maybe he was planning to take the mannequins back to wherever he got them.
Fern tells Pilar they "need to talk." She pretends not to recognize this ominous overture for what it is. Gerardo butts in and says he wants to pack up the equipment now, and how wonderful it is about him and Pilar. Fern smacks Gerardo impatiently. Then he has a change of heart and wants to help Gerardo pack up! Ger refuses and gives Fern a hug. Then he tries to hug Pilar. The crew all leave to pick up their equipment.
Sara bursts in and dramatically hugs Fern and says she's been thinking about him all day. She says she's filled with jealousy. She feels like shouting to all the world, all that has happened between them, etc. Fern catches on and scolds her for blabbing their secret that she swore she would never tell. Mom and RoboPop enter and watch with interest, wondering what's happening. (I guess he finished his drink.) You'd think they'd give up wondering about all this madness by now. Fern starts singing about his love for Sara.
Pilar gets mad and asks him why he didn't tell her about this ugly girl. He says she's not a fea, she's a dientona ("toothy girl," thanks Alma!) - that's completely different! She hits him with a flower. Fern puts his hand over his mouth, pretending to be mortified. RoboPop wants to know what's going on. Pilar looks suspicious. Sara insists that Fern is hers, and only hers, and threatens Pilar. The cuartel pull her away. Pilar turns to Fern and says she doesn't want his pathetic jerkifulness in her life. She storms out of the tent. Sara continues to yell after her.
Wow, that was easy.
Once she is out of site, Saimon points out that RoboPop saw some of this (or something like that) and Sara begins to apologize to Fern. Fern shies away mometarily, afraid (she got kind of scary for a moment). Sara tells him it seemed like an emergency. He starts to say okay, but next time warn me... when RoboPop interrupts. NEXT time? You're already thinking about next time?? Fern says it's just a saying. Pop tells him he can't stand that all of You People (Fern and the cuartel) make their living as such liars. He says we're leaving right now.
Lety says we need to have a very serious talk right now. She pulls RoboPop out of the tent. (What's the point of arguing with him while he's drunk? Oh well.) Mom apologizes to Fern. He asks her if her husband is really going to get Lety to quit.
Meanwhile, back at Conceptos (you remember Conceptos, right?), Alicia is wearing regular clothes - not sure if this is the outfit she left in that van before when she changed her clothes (how would she have gotten them back?) or if she keeps a spare outfit, including corset at her desk or if she went home to change her clothes first. (I don't remember what she was wearing a whole week ago.) Anyway, she's on the phone with Marcia. She assures Marcia that Fern's being a good boy, doing the commercial at the country club. She says it's too bad Marcia couldn't see her on that horse. (She does a sound effect of clopping hooves. Marcia pulls the phone away from her ear to stare at it in disbelief.) Marcia asks her if she's crazy. She just wants to know if she saw Fern flirting with that model Pilar. Alicia complains that Marcia doesn't take enough interest in Alicia's problems, like how she had to go around as a waitress... Marcia doesn't know and doesn't care what she's talking about. Alicia says there's nothing to be suspicious about, they're working like crazy on that commercial, he's going hither and yon with that mustachioed corncake...
Marcia is disappointed that Alicia didn't find out anything, and she makes a face at the phone when Alicia starts whining about how lonely she is at Conceptos. Alicia asks for some money, and Marcia wraps up the call abruptly and hangs up.
Yep. Again, she's mad because Alicia didn't see her boyfriend cheat on her. Go figure.
So... at last, the commercial is finished. Tomas is frustrated, and Alicia's running out of time to pay off her car debt... what next? Find out tonight!

Mundo de Fieras, Wed., October 4
Paulina says that she has family problems too. Her mother died in an accident when she was very young. She has an older brother but now that he is married and she has gone to Barcelona to study, they have grown apart. Her father married a widow with a daughter of her own age. Paulina and her half sister get along but aren’t friends. She is really close to Luisito, her half brother who was in an accident and can’t walk. She prays every day that he will get better someday.
Her cousin Pedro also lives in the house and although he is a little weird, she likes him a lot and he is like a brother to her. But more than anyone she loves her father. But her father isn’t happy. It is the fault of his wife but she believes that in some place there is a woman who could make her father happy and she will go and find her for him. [While she is talking, we see all the characters Paulina is talking about and the woman who could make her father happy is Mariangela].
Back in Mexico, Demian is eating breakfast like an animal. He sends the servants out. His evil associate, Tiberio, says that he doesn’t trust one servant, Simona. Demian asks if Tiberio has contacted Chacal. T. says not yet; his line is always busy. Demian says to tell this Chacal that he needs to talk to him right away.
In the kitchen, a servant asks Candelaria why she is so quiet. C. says that she is worried about a friend who is very ill. This friend has confided a secret to her but the time is coming when this secret must be told.
Gabriel tries to leave the bedside of his wacko wife for a business appointment but she goes bananas and accuses him of seeing another woman. She rips the bandages off her wrists and says that she will kill herself.
A drunk, lecherous guy attacks Mariangela and is trying to rape her. Just in the nick of time, one of her students, who I believe is named David [how appropriate], use a catapult to throw a stone at the would-be rapist. Mariangela escapes and the would-be rapist says that she will pay.

D. believes that J.C. is not his son. G. is impactado.
Meanwhile J.C. and Paulina are kissing passionately. [We know what Damien said is not true because otherwise J.C. would be kissing his half sister instead of his first cousin.] When things get hot and heavy, Paulina says they should wait. J.C. agrees. He doesn’t need proof of her feelings for him. Besides, she says it would be her first time.
Back at the confrontation between the brothers, G. says that he was never intimate with Regina and J.C. is D.’s son. The conversation immediately degenerate into D.’s grudge about being raised in poverty by his mother while G. had every luxury. D. says that it is his mother’s fault that he is crippled. G. says that on the contrary, it was D. fault. He was a thief running from the police when his leg got run over by a train. D. lost his eye because of an infection that his mother drank up the money that would have paid for treatment. G. asks how all this is his fault? He reminds D. that he shared the fortune he inherited with D. and taught him the construction business. Now D. is taking all G.’s best clients and leaving him with debts. Finally, after all this stuff about the past, D. gets to the point of his visit. He has signed the deal to get the property G. wanted. G. should not compete with him.

At the prison, Dolores gets hypnotized to try and remember what happened when her brother died. She has an over-exposed memory but only seems to remember that it wasn’t her that killed her brother.
Meanwhile, in the hospital, Joselyn has an over-exposed memory that appears to indicate that it was she who killed her first husband and Dolores’ brother, Edgar. No, now it appears that it was Miriam who killed Edgar but Joselyn knows about it and is not too stable. Miriam has to slap Joselyn to stop her hysterics just as Diana enters the room. Joselyn responds to Diana’s inquiry about how she is by saying that she is fine – all marriages have problems. For example, Diana’s husband has a lover. ‘You knew, right?’ says Joselyn. Diana starts to respond but Joselyn interrupts, ‘All men are the same. If I found out Gabriel had a lover, I’d kill her.’
At the priest’s office, Mariangela is trying to telephone Candelaria but she can’t get through. The priest says that he would like to go with her to her mother’s house but he has to say a mass and hear confession. ‘No problem’, says M., ‘you’ve done so much for us already.’

Heridas de Amor - Wednesday October 4
Lasagna throws a fit telling Alejandro and Daira that she wants her inheritance that her father left her. Alejandro says he will give her what she needs. Lasagna doesn’t want that she wants her money gosh darn it! Luciano walks in midst of the scene. Lasagna asks him what does she need to do to get the inheritance that her father left her?!? . Luciano says simply ask him looking at Alejandro. Commercial break to hold the tension. When the show returns AL tells Lasagna no and that's his last word. Lasagna steps up her game saying that if he doesn't give it to her she will file theft and abuse of confidence charges against him and runs off. Daria is upset and Al repeats he won't give Lasagna her inheritance. Luciano is sorry he stuck his nose in the middle of things.
Charo walks into Berthas room with the briefcase. It's empty. The girls figure out that Bertha took what was important out.
Daira believes there is something behind Lasagnas behavior. Al & Luciano agree with her statement. Alejandro decides he is going to have Lasagna followed so he can investigate what is going on with her. Al asks Luciano to find someone to follow her.
Miranda calls Alejandro to tell him she has found a briefcase. She has him describe the briefcase he is looking for and then tells him she has one in her hands just like he is describing. What she doesn't tell him is that the briefcase she has is empty. So…. all excited he tells her he is coming right over.
Sleazar, meanwhile, in his car and on his cell phone, arranges for someone to attend the press conference that Gonzalo has set up. Sleazar yells at the person on the other end of the line to "ask him what I told you!"
Fernanda chews out Juan in her office asking him where he was last night (wedding night)?! He tells her he went to Carola's apartment. This information immediately gets Fern mad but Juan stops her to say Raul was there and don’t misinterpret things. Stop treating him like a kid. He then lies saying he hasn't had any problems with Renata. Fern asks for his help to get her closer to Renata.
After watching Pamela and Miranda tear up Bertha's room looking for the briefcase, Charo finally spits out that Bertha has left for Europe. Miranda wants to know why Bertha went to Europe and with what money.
Sanson enters Amparo's house asking if Renata remembers him. She has a green memory of her run in with him at the taco stand/robbery. She gets very wide eyed as Sanson tells her that he wants them to get to know each other better.
Father Santiago is in church when he sees a man at the back. The man asks for him by name and asks to talk with him. The man tells Santiago that he works at a bank and he is about to get a big promotion. He has a wife and children and the family is very united and happy . . . but many years ago he committed an error that now is going to affect his whole family.
Alejandro arrives at Miranda's and goes right over to the briefcase. He gets agitated as he rummages through the pockets to find nothing is there. (Speak up people. Words! Use them!) He tells Miranda that they can't underestimate Bertha anymore. Al tells Miranda and Pamela that Bertha has planned and calculated every step and she is way ahead of them. He believes that this scene they are going through was a warning from Bertha. Miranda chimes in that's why the door wasn't locked! Duh! The trio starts to put things together. Pamela asks Alejandro what is so important that was in the briefcase? He sits down and puts his head in his hands saying the story is long and complicated.
Sanson has grabbed Renata from behind and he is groping her. She calls for help Auxilio! Out of no where Sleazar busts in and takes Sanson and throws him out. He wants to know what Renata is doing there. She tells him she got married.
Luciano tells Gonzalo that he doesn't have any hidden intentions. Gonzalo doesn't believe him. Gonzalo asks Luciano if he is crazy. Gonzalo wants to know who is behind all of this. Vincente announces the reporters are there and they all shuffle into Gonzalo's office.
The man tells Father Santiago that he was the one who opened the account in his name. Santiago voices his disbelief as the man tells more. He explains that his mother was ill. She was getting help through a special medical program that was only offered by the bank. The man felt that if he didn't do as Bertha said he would lose his job, then the medical coverage that his whole family was depending on. Santiago admits that Bertha sure knows peoples weak points. The man wants Santiago to denounce Bertha.
The reporters ask Gonzalo a slew of questions like how was jail, the business, his family history, etc.. A girl reporter asks him if he suspects someone set him up. Gonzalo has a green memory to Sleazar and Alejandro but denies suspecting anyone. Gonzalo insists that he has a clean name and is irreproachable. Then we hear a mans voice and we see the room through the mans video camera. The man/reporter mocks Gonzalo's statement and then says that "we know some years ago you committed a murder in your hacienda."
Pamela asks Alejandro again what is so important that is in the briefcase. Al tells the girls that Bertha is now the owner of almost all of his fortune. Miranda calls Bertha a monster and Al agrees but thinks Bertha is worse. Fabricio and Florencia walk into the room at that moment to hear these last words. Flor wants to know why they are talking like this about her Tia. Commercial break. Everyone hugs and kisses the couple. (Personally I haven't missed them at all and find myself irritated with Flor's voice. Ahhhh.) Flor asks again why they are talking about Bertha and what are they doing in Berthas' room? Miranda tells her it was a joke. Flor wants to know where is Bertha. When she finds that Bertha has left town she asks "Another time to Europa?" Miranda is stunned asking what do you mean another time to Europe? Flor explains that Bertha said she was going to New York last time but she really went to Europe. Miranda then tells Fab and Flor about Tomasa's death.
Sleazar is seen smoking in Amparo's house. Renata tells him her story and Sleazar calls Juan a Naco. Renata asks what is Cesar doing there. He says he is looking for Dr. Fernandez who looks after Julio. He tells Renata about being fired by Gonzalo and going into business with Julio. He then coaches Renata on how to approach Gonzalo inspiring her to defend herself against Gonzalo. As he leaves he tells Renata that had she accepted his marriage proposal she would be living with him and not having to go through any of this. Oh Well! You can count on him!
Gonzalo tells the room of reporters that everything is rumor without foundation. There is no proof for any of these stories. The plant of Sleazars pushes on saying you didn't answer my question. Gonzalo cuts him off and ends the conference. He heads for the cognac. Luciano, sitting in a corner through out the whole conference, pipes up that Gonzalo handled the press well. Gonzalo tells Luciano that he wants the owner of the reserved stock to prove himself in front on Gonzalo.
Sleazar lamely beats up Sanson outside of Amparo's house. He asks if Sanson knows the neighborhood and then proposes that Sanson work for him. He asks Sanson if he knows anything interesting. Sanson tell him about Renata being the daughter of Fernanda. Sleazar seems to appreciate this and then asks Sanson if he knows how to drive. He throws Sanson around a little bit more and then they both get into Sleazar's car.
Back in Berthas room the lovely duo Fab and Flor are happy to report that Flor is reacting well to her treatment. They tell how the Miami doctors said that Fern is treating Flor with the latest treatments. Miranda tells Flor that Fern got her on a heart transplant list. Yea! Afterward Miranda talks alone with Alejandro about the news that Bertha didn’t go to New York.
Santiago tells the man that he wants him to do as he says. He doesn’t want the man to disgrace himself and lose his family. The man believes he should pay for his error. Santiago tells him that he has by having the courage to tell him the truth.
Gonzalo tells Luciano that he is not an investor or business manager. He says you and whoever is behind you will not laugh at me behind my back. He then tells Luciano to tell Alejandro Luque the game is over. He orders Luciano to tell "the coward that I know everything he's done behind my back." Luciano seems stunned and offers apologies. Gonzalo finishes off the meeting with tell Alejandro that "I will wait for him and meet him when he wants."
In Fern's office Alejandro tells Fern that Bertha told Miranda that Flor is not Gonzalo's daughter. Fern quickly tells Al that this is all his fault. He told this information to Fab who told Rebecca who told Bertha. (Got that folks?) Al insists he had to because Fab was questioning his intentions with Flor. Fern then has a watershed moment realizing it was also Bertha who told Gonzalo that Flor is not his daughter. They both agree that Bertha is always one step ahead of everyone else.
Fab, Flor and Charo are outside the Mexico City mansion. Flor is whining about Tomasa and how she died. Fab tries to get her to stop obsessing. She agrees to let it go and goes to take her medicine. Fab sits down and gets an email on his laptop. He says to himself that he got an answer back from Germany. It can't be he says to himself. (I wasn’t sure if he was happy or said with the email.)
Sleazar takes Sanson shopping. We see Sanson doing turns for Sleazar so he can check him out in the dressing room of a high scale retail establishment. (Is Sleazar gay? Would explain his masochistic behavior. ) Sleazar then takes Sanson to get a shave. He tells Sanson that he will call him Simon. He orders Simon to speak proper Spanish and leave his gutter mouth at the door. He then tells Simon that the only rules he has to live by are to be loyal to him and to not remember anything Sleazar says or does. They take off together in Sleazars SUV with the newly minted Simon driving.
Gonzalo tells Vicente to go to London to investigate the company who bought stock. Gonzalo tells Vicente that he hopes he will find parallel accounts that will point to Sleazar or he will have to pardon Sleazar. Gonzalo doesn’t want to do that.
Renata is seen filing her nails in her new home. Amparo and Francisco return acting more like a married couple than brother and sister. Renata tells them she has to go to a meeting with her father, but she doesn’t know how to get there. Amparo tells her to go out in the street and ask directions if she doesn’t know the way. Renata scoffs out loud at the suggestions claiming that if she isn’t safe inside the house then she certainly wont be outside the house. Erika arrives and takes the bitchy Renata away. Roman arrives at the house and no sooner has he said hello to Amparo, who looks at him with doe eyes, than Fransico pulls him away to help him buy a taxi.
Renata goes to Gonzalos office. He asks where she has been, her bed wasn’t slept in. Renata defiantly tells him she got married. Gonzalo starts to get angry in his deep voice saying "Con Quien!" With who! From the door we hear Juan speak up "with me Senor." More of this tomorrow.

Heridas de Amor, Tuesday October 3
Gonzalo & Fernanda continue their discussion about her ‘lover,’ she continues to insist that she didn’t have an affair. He continues to disbelieve her. While they have come to terms (sort of) that he isn’t the father of Florencia. Gonzalo admits that Renata hates him and the only daughter who loves him, Florencia, isn’t even his and it’s all her fault.
Bertha (in her divinely red shirt….it screams I’m up to no good) & Alejandro share a drink and discuss. When he offers to pay her however much money she wants for the briefcase, she says, I don’t want money, I want you and starts her crazy lady eye-rolling as she starts caressing him.
Cut to Lisania & Cesar in bed. Ewww. Cesar continues his poor me act and says that he needs money. Lisania offers to help and Cesar switches to his gallant act…I can’t take your money.
Miranda & what’s her name are trying to work out what happened that fateful night so many years ago and how the many branches of their family tree relate to those events.
Carola and Raúl are drowning their sorrows in a bottle of cheap hooch. When she complains that Juan never loved her Raúl comforts her by saying, Nonsense, he loved you like a sister. That Raúl…he always knows what to say! Fernanda, everyone’s godmother and an all-around saint, has offered to help Carola and just as she’s reflecting on all the possibilities the future brings….Juan knocks on the door. Juan expresses some anxieties about his marriage and longs for the good old days when they didn’t have to worry about love and marriage. Carola looks hopeful.
Cesar starts pumping Lisania for information about her family. Lisania acts like…well an idiot…and lets it slip that Alejandro has a score to settle. (Oops, giggle, giggle.)
Renata picks a fight with Mama Amparito, ultimately telling her that she’s not the mother of Juan, she’s more like the nanny….no actually she’s more like a servant. Looks like Renata’s relationship-building skills are just as polished as ever. Fernanda comes in and breaks up the fight with a three-way glare. Renata puts a favorable spin on things (perhaps she has a future in politics) and the ever-gullible Fernanda believes her and asks Amparo what the deal is, everyone just needs to get along. Fernanda invites Renata for a coffee who is surprised that she lives in that neighborhood.
Miranda confronts Alejandro asking him about his conversation with Bertha. He reveals that in order to get the portfolio back, Bertha has demanded that he marry her. Instead of thinking about what they could do together to get at Bertha they have a fight about his behavior with Bertha and her behavior with Cesar and yada yada yada…I just want to shake some common sense into the two of them.
Daira, Luciano and Alejandro are worrying about Lisania. Ay! What to do!
Miranda tells Pamela about Bertha’s evil plot, worried that she isn’t a monster, she’s young and pretty and maybe Alejandro, a man, would fall for her wiles. Despite Pamela’s protests, Miranda is convinced that the portfolio is important enough to Alejandro that he would be willing to marry Bertha. Pamela, following the Raul-school of putting one’s foot in one’s moth, says maybe they can be bridesmaids at Bertha’s wedding. Miranda is not amused.
Renata & Fernanda have their coffee with Renata acting up about Amparo and the neighborhood. Renata tells her mom that they’ll be telling Gonzalo the next day and doesn’t care what his reaction will be since he hit her (green flashback to their argument). On her way out, Renata tells Fernanda that she doesn’t want to talk about her mother because she hates her with all her soul.
Juan and Renata have a chat. Basically he tells her she should have married someone from her own circle so he could please all her stupid little wants and wishes. He also lets her know he’s not going to tell Gonzalo they got married. Upset and not sure what to do, she decides to turn to Bertha (of course).
Charo tells Pamela and Fernanda that Lucas and Bertha have gone out. They toss her room looking for Fernanda’s engagement ring…I mean an old beat-up leather portfolio. Charo surprises them and lets them know that Bertha is going to Europe.
At San Llorente Investments…Gonzalo is busy signing some important looking papers and discusses with his lawyer how the company is going. His lawyer suggests a meeting with the investors to calm their anxieties.
Cesar, at home with his morning snifter of brandy and cigarette (clearly the breakfast of champions), is reading the newspaper and snickering to himself about Gonzalo.
At Casa Luque, Alejandro and Daira are confronting the petulant Lisania and she breaks the news that she wants her inheritance.
