Yo Amo a Juan - Friday May 23, 2008 – In Which We Find that Ivonne Has No Future as a Private Eye
“Cesar Luis and Sandro are fighting about our " lovely little rose garden", Marely. Sandro wants to call off the arrangement. When he agreed to it, he didn't know Marely. Now that he does, the game has changed.
Not for Cesar. He's going to get his vengeance and nothing is going to stop that. Not even the great luuuuuve (he sneers) that Sandro feels for Marely. Beside, he adds, she'll never be yours.
She hates you. I've made sure of that. And if you really love her, you'll spare her the horror of finding out you've been fooling everybody...and all for a cold-hearted act of vengeance.
Forget about going to Farrell, about looking for her and about betraying me, Cesar finishes.
And mercifully, that's where this very unpleasant episode ends. Bring on "ultimas capitulos" por favor!!!!”
Your prayers are answered: “Últimos Capítulos” appeared for the VERY first time last night at the end when they advertised for tonight!!!!!!!
HOORAY!
CL sneers that he hopes Sandro won’t be so vile and so low as to confess this little arrangement because it’s going to shatter his life if he does. Don’t even think about betraying CL. Sandro is on his wavelength and not the least bit happy with it. And WE are surprised that CL thinks it’s a problem that someone might be vile and low enough to bust him. We think it would be a coup.
Imagine this, there’s a gym in the D. F. called “Fissic.” Pastor and Heri are signing up. An instructor tells them he can give them private lessons in the morning or afternoon, and describes all the other fun activities, including the sauna. Pastor wants that to relax his body. Heri, OTOH, wants to know who gives massages. Is it some chick or some guy? It’s a guy, so ask for Toribio. Heri will do without, thanks so much. If some guy dares to touch Heri, he’ll plant him a facer. Pastor tells him to chill and the trainer welcomes them. Heri gives Pastor the sign in sheet and urges him to sign on the dotted line.
Gutis is disgusted big-time with the rat on two feet who hasn’t shown. He curses Delirio, who’s left him high and dry (me dejó plantado- he stood me up).
Speaking of the King of Rome, Hillary is thanking Delirio and Nidia for the warm welcome into La Casa Cachón. Nidia hopes they’ll do it again and Delirio toadies. There’s a surprise. Juan thinks it’s really time to blow that pop stand and extricates Hillary as quickly as he can. They both have appointments the next day, hablablablabla. Nidia is given charge of Juanito and they get out of Dodge as fast as they can.
The gym must be a happenin’ place—Heri can press big time and Pastor –not so much. Heri does his reps and Pastor….does his best. Or whatever. The band plays on. Pastor gets himself hung in some exercise equipment. Heri hugs him around the waist and gets him down. The band plays on. Pastor gets in trouble again on another piece of equipment and Heri jumps off the equipment he’s on to go to the rescue. He hugs Pastor and grins. Heri does great sit-ups, albeit slow ones, and Pastor….tries his best. With a spotter. The band plays on. Heri sees a chick he wants to meet and springs up from the sit-up apparatus. He slinks around the equipment she’s on and loooooks her over. Then he leans in and introduces himself—apparently he hasn’t noticed her boxing gloves until they connect with his face. It’s a KNOCKOUT! Pastor quickly waddles over to Heri’s recue! [Ed. Note: Give the recappers more dialogue like this, writers!] The band drags to a stop.
Perafán wants to know what happened with Kike with Yadira. Well, he confronted Anga and Anga sent him to the devil (me mandó al carambas—Kike doesn’t curse). Anga’s insisting his intentions toward Yadi are clean and pure. Delirio tells him sure, and I’m Mandrake the Magician. This guy’s not clean in his body or heart. He didn’t dare to fire Kike, but tomorrow Kike’s going to surprise Anga with his resignation—right in Anga’s mug (jeta – face/mug). Delirio disabuses him of this plan—he needs to keep his job so he can keep his daughter. No job, no custody. He can’t win if he resigns. Kike is discouraged—he thinks Lady Luck has a bee in her bonnet where he’s concerned. (La diosa Fortuna me trae entre ceja y ceja – the goddess Fortune has me between her eyebrows).
Pastor is having a FABULOUS massage, judging by the shouting from the cuarto de masajes (massage room). It actually reminds one of the scene in “When Harry met Sally” where she fakes it. [For those of you too young to know the movie, so sorry.] Heri overhears this and determines massages ‘r’ not us. He’s out of there.
Ivonne awakes from a doze-off to note someone leaving the apartment building where she used to “share” time (so to speak) with CL. It’s that CL clone, “Sandro.” She’s irritated and smacks the cab driver, who wasn’t as watchful as she wanted. He thinks it’s her boyfriend and she denies it. He tells her that he saw a movie where the girlfriend watched her boyfriend leave and searched his apartment using her key. Ivonne is bummed—she forgot her key, but it’s not a bad idea. The cabbie thinks this guy will be a while in getting back and Ivonne looks at him with new respect. As JudyB noted, he’s one of the two cabbies in the D. F.
Hillary wants to know if Juan will tell her what happened in the office. Juan gets parked and deliberates over the consequences of telling her the truth vs. not telling her the truth. Her lovely, tender eyes make him think which way is better or worse. He compliments her—but it’s sincere. She’s the sweetest woman in the world and he wouldn’t want to miss out on knowing her. He wonders if they should go out for a drink and then to her house, but she tells him no. She throws him a curve—she has something important to tell him. She’s in love with him. Juan is I.M.P.A.C.T.A.D.O.
Ivonne skulks outside the apartment building until a woman with a child leaves and she scoots in, thanking them. The cabbie taps on his wheel, bored to tears with it all.
Juan comments on the curve Hillary threw. Why, she asks? He thought bubbles about how he could deserve a woman like this. She’s never known a guy like him, she says—but what little she knows, she likes. He wonders if it’s not just an impression. Nope, she’s sure. She’s ready to talk to Papi. Juan knows she trips his trigger (moves his switch), but he’s not so sure about talking to Papi yet. Hillary tells him now’s the time. She’s very serious about this. Juan is speechless, which is probably a first.
Ivonne makes her way to the floor where CL’s apartment is. She digs out the key and tries to open the door. It’s not working and something alerts her to run back to the stairwell she came up. Sandro leaves—looking for Marely? She peeps out at him going on the elevator, wearing different clothes than the guy who left in the car. Ivonne is bemused-impactada.
Anga is all smiles, telling Yadi by phone he’s taking her to a lawyer in the morning and give the baby a kiss. Pastor gets home to hear the end of the chat. He remarks on how it sounds like Anga chatting with his “Segundo frente” or queried—beloved. Anga scoffs and tells him not to be a mischief maker (digas tarugadas – say bits of mischief). Pastor points out how easy it would be for Nidia to just say that Yadi is Anga’s own blood and thus avoid the “relationship” that people think they have. Anga gets thoughtful while Pastor concludes that since she hasn’t done that, Yadi’s not his daughter. Simple, really. Anga negates it—Nidia would never ‘fess up because of Samuel’s name. Pastor thinks she’d find that preferable to having her daughter in Anga’s clutches. Anga tells Pastor that Nidia’s behaving like any mother, warning and all that, but deep down she knows Anga’s a man with principles (principios – principles, beginnings). Pastor retorts “and of endings (finales) because he’s spending so much on this chick that he’s going to be left with just his smile—as Pastor walks out. Anga calls after his brother not to talk trash about his daughter and Pastor returns to the room to tell him that Yadi may be his “daughter” out of necessity or lots of other reasons including pure pleasure, but there’s no proof she’s really his daughter. Anga wants to know what about that family mark? Pastor thinks it could be most anything; it remains to be seen. Anga smiles—his heart tells him she’s his daughter. Pastor reminds him his hearts not working so well. Anga tells Pastor to knock it off, she’s my daughter, period. He stalks away while Pastor rolls his eyes.
Ivonne, You Silly Girl! CL thought of EVERYTHING! He changed the locks! Her key gets stuck as the elevator door opens; something breaks off in the lock, and something drops on the floor—parts of a key or something else? A building security guy wants to know what’s up. She makes up a lame story that she’s such a fool, she always forgets the floor she needs and that’s why it didn’t work. She runs to the still open elevator and gets away before he strolls back, looking suspiciously at the elevator.
Paula’s dressed to kill in something that actually looks rather conservative compared to what she wears to work, and in strikingly similar style and color to Hillary’s dress from earlier in the day. She descends the stairs to chat with Ana a few minutes before her date with “Sandro.” Ana’s on edge about the exhibit. Only God knows what Nidia’s got planned. Paula can’t imagine why she gave charge of the details to Nidia, and for that matter, neither can we. Ana sarcastically remarks on what great moral support (apoyo moral) she’s getting from her daughter in a moment of great anxiety (angustia). Paula then does try to calm her, reminding her that not even Nidia can detract from the quality of Ana’s works. At the end of the day, it’s about her talent, not what Nidia does or doesn’t do. They both chuckle about what Nidia really could do—and just how gaudily dressed (guacamaya, Puerto Rican adjective) she might show up. Speaking of gaudily dressed, Ana wonders at Paula’s lovely get-up and thinks is could be a tad provocative. [Ed. Note: Ana, you haven’t been paying attention. Paula looks like a Barefoot Carmelite tonight, relatively speaking.] Paula just wanted to look pretty, and so what? She tells Ana the A to Z of why she’s so dressed up, to get Juan out of her mind. It’s more than time she fell in love again. With Sandro Arenas? Paula admits it—Sandro, whoever. Ana turns away and scowls.
Nidia wants to know why Marely is sobbing her heart out, but Marely’s not inclined to talk about it. It’s not because of man. What? It’s the fault of a woman. Nidia goes into a full-blown tizzy. Marely explains there’s always a woman blocking her way, and lamentably, it’s someone she cares a lot about. Nidia gets it; it’s Paula, of course. Marely cries that Paula’s always stealing her boyfriends and she can’t stand it any more. Nidia does an uncharacteristically loving, motherly thing and simply holds her tearful child.
Ana gets very direct with Paula—not Sandro, not anyone will make you feel happy and fulfilled. Paula’s not so sure and Ana wonders why Paula never listens to her. Why is she always looks in the wrong doors? Paula says the wrong thing is to think there can be something with her and Juan. Ana argues in support of Juan and Paula disagrees. Hablablablabla. Paula is just sure Juan isn’t interested in her as a woman. He’s going out with others. Ana wonders why Paula doesn’t just TELL the man already that she loves him. Paula’s pity party isn’t over, though. Well, she’s waiting for Sandro to come and Ivonne is out with Fern, so she won’t come for dinner. Paula kisses Ana and gets ready to go wait for Sandro. Ana reminds her not to come home too late because Ana doesn’t sleep until she’s in. Paula opens the door to find “Sandro,” who compliments her, comes in a moment and assures Ana he’ll take good care of Paula. Ana talks over her shoulder at him, refusing to make eye contact and looking sullen, rolling her eyes at his flowery promise to care for Paula, this valuable treasure.
Nidia is indignant about what’s happening to Marely and rails on about it. It’s not really Paula, it’s that Hillary Paris! Marely sniffles that it won’t work, since Paula’s got his heart. Nidia thinks marely hasn’t really done anything to conquer Juan. She’s letting others eat that cake! Marely cries about how she’s working on forgetting about him, even studying to redirect her attention. Why so much drama, then? It’s not about Juan, it’s about Sandro. Who’s Sandro? Marely reminds her about CL’s twin. But I didn’t know you were interested in him. Great! No, not so great—he came looking for me (was interested in me), interested in my work and—now he’s got his eyes set on Paula. Of course, she’s pretty, she’s intelligent…and I’m nothing, Mami. Nidia holds her again while Marely cries.
A corner flower lady greets Sandro, who is wandering aimlessly in the neighborhood. He absently returns the greeting. The lady tries to sell him all kinds of flowers for all kinds of females—a wife, a girlfriend…whoever. Sandro wants flowers for a “good friend.” What kind of friend? Well, I’d like it to be more than a good friend….the flower lady will make up an arrangement that will have her falling at his feet.
Nidia wonders when this all happened to Marely—she’s not said a word. Marely tells her that she’s always so busy with her stuff, but Nidia fusses that she has time for her daughters—she loves them most in the whole world! But, she’s not a mind reader and they have to come and let her know when they have problems. Marely cries that she wants someone to love HER and not get distracted by Paula. [Ed. Note: Fern wasn’t fixed on Paula. Ever.] Nidia points out that she’s a little nun, very serious, and that might not keep the boys lining up. Nidia thinks it wouldn’t hurt for her to be a little livelier—guys are like cars and gals like stoplights—you have to give them the green, not the red. Marely tries to explain—she wants them to like her for her mind and what’s inside, not how she looks. [Nidia’s not sure this is HER daughter here]. She gives marely tips on how to attract guys, and not with intellect. Marely has to grudgingly acknowledge the point. All men are womanizers, liars, and betrayers. Nidia hugs her and wonders why her daughters’ fate is to suffer so much.
In the Big House, Hillary’s Papi tells her the accountant advised him that Hillary’s spending big bucks and she’s overextended. He’s glad she’s got this work she’s doing, but….She’ll be more careful. He’s heard that she bought a convertible in the car dealership. Yep. A good friend needed it. Hm. What good friend? You haven’t met him, Papá. It’s a new friend (not the son of one of Daddy’s friends as usual) and Hillary wants to present him. So, where’d you meet him? Don’t be telling me he’s a good-for-nothing you met on the street. Hillary proudly tells Papi that he’s a businessman…..and that’s she’s in love with the guy. Papá Paris is impactado….then pleased…. and we hear commercial break music.
Juan finds Kike in the dark and asks him what’s up. Kike’s not only in the dark, he’s on the floor. Kike wants Juan to join him in a drink. Kike gets up and cheers up a little to congratulate Juan on his new girlfriend. He sits down on the coffee table in front of the sofa just feet from Juan. Juan responds that she’s just a friend of the moment. Too bad Kike wasn’t around to get an intro! Kike gets serious. He’s dying. Juan tells him not to say that stuff. But Kike has to tell what he’s dying of: Love, rage, anger, and all the synonyms for fury. He hurts so much he almost can’t breathe. Juan looks at Kike with concern and clinks his beer bottle against Kike’s.
Hillary’s Papi wonders who the heck this guy is, if he’s never heard the name. Hillary explains that Juan is half owner of Farell. He bought the shares. He’s a good worker, and little by little, he’s arrived…. ”to my house?” Papi wants to know. This guy’s really clever, because look at who he’s found! He indicates his daughter. Papi thinks it’s the money and at the end of the story, they are all fortune hunters, but Hillary assures him Juan’s not that way and Papi will see it once he meets Juan. Is he your boyfriend? Not yet. Okay, before he is, he has to talk with me. Hillary protests that she’s of age, and can choose for herself. Papi responds that he’s only asking this, to talk to Juan. When will she be bringing him by? Hillary tells Papi to let her ask Juan and Papi shakes a stern finger to tell her it has to be This Week. Hillary gives him a Look as he goes. Nice to know that even the best kids have issues with their folks, huh? She sighs in frustration as he gets out of sight.
Kike scoffs that Anga has tried to tell him that he’s only helping Yadira, it’s all clean and pure, oh Puh-Leeze. Another dog with this bone. Kike is sure something’s going on here and the worst of ti is that Delirio told him he can’t quit so he’ll have a job to support his daughter and have a shot at custody. Juan thinks that’s pretty lame (canijo—weak, feeble). Kike thinks they should spend a little and establish their own transport company—but Juan is living from paycheck to paycheck. He’s paying off the loans he got to purchase Farell. Kike wishes they’d been business associates before they became friends. Juan thought bubbles that he’s run into bad luck since buying Farell—lost Paula, and now he can’t help his best friend. Juan is downcast.
Paula and “Sandro” are enjoying a lovely dinner with red wine. “Sandro” tells Paula that when he’s seeing her outside the office, those are some of the best times he’s had with her. Paula fiddles with her food and listens, not making much eye contact. They exchange chitchat about being friends in or out of the office. Paula asks if he remembers wondering if there was something between her and Juan. Yes, but she didn’t respond. Well, today, she’s telling him. Between her and Juan there is NOTHING. Was there something? Not important, though, and he doesn’t want to know. The present and future are all that are important. He flirts seductively and she pulls back—she’s suffered and had a lot of pain. [Sheesh.] She doesn’t want to be pressured. He’ll give her all the time she needs—he rubs her cheek and hopes he can heal the wounds, dry the tears, [Ed. Note: rolling my eyes].
Sandro has taken the flower lady’s arrangement to leave at Marely’s doorstep. He looks up anxiously and puts the card into the arrangement, then looks up again and beats a hasty path away.
“Sandro” has paid and thanked the server, and Paula thanks him for the dinner. She had a lovely time. He’s so pleased, because he’s had a lovely evening. He leans in for the kill—er, kiss, and she jerks up out of her seat, leaving him staring directly at her décolletage. He jerks back up as Paula wonders if it isn’t time for them to go. She’s promised Mami she won’t be late. Our smooth-talking, seductive and wheedling ghost of CL is back, wondering what’s up with that? Are you bothered that I want to steal one kiss? I think you want it as much as I me. “Sandro” strokes her cheek, ala CL. Paula begins to cave. Suddenly, she’s kissing Juan passionately. [Pardon me, gentle readers while I run and turn the AC on.] She pulls back abruptly, leaving “Sandro” frustrated. No, no—understand, please. I’m not ready for this, not yet. Why? [Ed. Note: Paula, LISTEN. “Sandro” wheedles EXACTLY like César Luis!] Is it because when you’re with me you’re thinking you’re with César Luis? [Nice touch, pal.] Well, maybe some of that. “Sandro” tells her that CL and he are very different. She agrees hesitantly. Well, what should I do? Change my face? [I think they call that cognitive behavioral therapy and it’s working with Paula.] No, she just has to get used to it. He offers to get plastic surgery and she tells him of course not, and he jokes that’s good because hospitals terrify him (me dan pavor, give me dread)….one time I….well enough of that. Paula gives him a pensive look before they leave.
Juan can’t sleep though Juanito can. Juan muses to himself that he’s never seen his best pal suffering so (like a pig – como marrano). He’s got to find a way to help Kike and to help himself, too. “Sandro” is like a thorn in his shoe. Juan gets the picture of Paula with “Sandro” reading her palm in his head. This wasn’t part of the plan, he tells himself, shaking his head.
“Sandro” arrives home and can’t get his key into the lock and they drop. He sees the broken pieces on the floor and thinks about what it means.
After the commercial break, we are treated to a loooong-ago lead-in of Juan with his lovely locks cut, and the light blue-gray jacket and silk tie, hugging Kike who has just spent his life savings on Juan’s dress-to-impress wardrobe. That must have been from when? August or September? Of 2005 or so?
Morning is bright and lovely in the D. F. Juan and Kike talk out by the front entrance of Casa Cachón. Juan urges Kike to be patient. Surely God will give us a hand here! Cheer up! Kike retorts that he doesn’t need a hand at the moment, he needs the whole arm! He looks to heaven, beseeching. Juan tells him to come by the office around noon the next day. Kike wants to know what he’s up to. Juan tells him to calm down, this will work. Kike quietly thanks Juan for not leaving him alone right now. Juan wants to know if he’s nuts or what, with how good Kike’s been to him. Juan reminds him they’re soul brothers. Juanito comes out – he’s ready and has his teeth brushed. He gives the clean teeth grimace so Papi can see how clean they are. Juan dances down the sidewalk, urging Kike to cheer up. [Ed. Note: A woman would just hug the living daylights out of Kike like Julia did, but Real Men don’t do that, right Anon #1?] They walk to the street, hands on each other’s shoulders, with Juanito chattering to them. Wow, here are some flowers, and who could have left them? Juanito reads the card—they’re for Marely. He scolds his Papi—see, you’re going to lose that girl! Kike calls Nidia to let her know about the flowers, because the boys have to go. Juan looks at the delightful arrangement in shock and is impactadoooo.
In Pastor’s office, we of course get the great view of Ana’s painting of Juan in his prime. Paula has asked Pastor to come in early to talk about Laura Berrocal. Pastor is motionless in his chair and asks her to give him the meds for muscle aches since every since muscle in his body aches. He can’t even get up from the seat. She fiddles with the bottle and hands it over while he details what all is aching. It’s just that I began to exercise. [Ed. Note: Uh-huh. Right.] It was a challenge to get dressed. Paula’s heard enough. Now, about Laura. She’s been hired as your personal assistant with the idea that you’re going to make her life in Farell impossible, Paula advises him. Excuuuuse me? Pastor looks up warily. Paula wonders if he was lifting weights with his ears and they atrophied. [Sheesh. Is that what you call sarcasm, Paula?] Pastor chuckles with equal sarcasm—always so congenial! Paula makes it clear that he can do about anything as long as she ends up resigning. Pastor grins from ear to ear and mutters “me?”
Nidia hustles the lovely flowers in for Marely while she eats her breakfast. Marely is stunned by the lovely arrangement—don’t tell me the Licenciado Perafán sent those to you! Don’t be kidding me, he doesn’t even buy bread around here, Nidia laughs at her, touching her elbows to emphasize his tightfisted ways. Nope, they’re YOURS! She makes Marely look at the card (my bitter cucumber). “Perdóname (Forgive me)– Sandro” Marely is disgusted and sweeps the flowers onto the floor with one quick shove – “hypocrite!” Nidia is impactada. Poor flowers, what fault do they have? Marely announces that she’s really late, grabs her purse and stalks out. Nidia talks to the flowers while she restores them to their proper place at the table.
“Sandro” talks to Sandro (who looks really nice in a green v-neck sweater and black jeans). Sandro wants to know if CL is sure that’s Ivonne’s as CL brandishes the piece he found on the floor in his hand. Sure he knows it’s Ivonne; this is a piece of a bracelet (pulsera) he gave her. Sandro cautions him to be careful what he’s accusing her of, because he doesn’t have proof. CL says he knows exactly what he has to do. Sandro stops him from leaving—he says he has to let CL know he bought flowers for Marely the night before and left them at her house. “¿¡Qué?!” Are you nuts or what? I was with Paula! If she talks with Paula….”no one saw me.” He explains how he left them as a gesture to calm his conscience. It was his way of saying farewell to her. CL scoffs that he wonders what the h*** convinced him to involve Sandro in this. [Ed. Note: Could be the reasonable facsimile to yourself, ya think?] Sandro desperately reminds CL he had to do it that way and still needs Sandro to pull it off. CL stalks out and Sandro is still desperate.
Juanito is still scolding his Papi about those flowers. He hasn’t even given the girl a stick of gum and he’s gonna lose her for sure. Juan tells him to cut it out, already, he’s been scolding the entire way and what mosquito bit him anyway? Juanito accusingly tells Juan that last night Marely cried her eyes out and it’s Juan’s fault. What, she cried? Yes, she was JEALOUS of Hillary. Juanito wrinkles his nose in disgust with Papi. Juan protests that he’s a bachelor and can go around with whoever he wants. Juanito asserts that no woman will ever love him like Marely does, no matter how pretty or rich. Juan explains that he can’t order his heart around and he would like to do with Marely, but it won’t work. He babbles on while he “explains” this to his son and shoves him in the direction of his class. Juanito waves and Juan tells him he loves Juanito and urges him on into class.
As Ivonne gets off the elevator and the lobby lizards congregate, Pastor hobbles toward Ivonne to tell her the latest scoop—she can’t imagine what the Lic Paula has just asked him to do. She wants me to make Laura’s life impossible so she ends up quitting. She’s as hateful as Medulla, huh? Ivonne defends Paula—she has her reasons. Julia and her LL friend listen intently from the background. Ivonne continues about Laura—this gal played them dirty—both with Paula and her mother. Ivonne lectures a surprised Pastor. She was Monica’s spy when Paula married CL! No! Pastor is impactado. It’s logical Paula doesn’t want to see Laura—even in a painting! She remarks on the gossips. She drags him off to tell him what happened the night before and he moans about his aching body. She gets him as far as her desk, not so far away from the madding crowd, but tells him that she followed “Sandro” to his apartment. Huh…what for? Well, to clear up some doubts I had, she continues. Pastor tells her she’s always putting herself in the wolf’s mouth. This cloak and dagger complex of hers (complejo de caperucita – complex of cloak) is going to bring her lots of problems in her life. She scolds him for foreseeing her future instead of letting her tell her story. She tries to sit him down but he’s too achy-breaky. She lowers her voice and tells him she saw….TWO Sandros. TWO! TWO??? Ivonne scowls. “Two César Luises!” She declares that there are identical men in the apartment, and who knows if in place of two there are triplets! (Trillizos) One of those men IS César Luis Farell. She kisses her hand in confirmation (last part of the sign for crossing herself?). Pastor is muy skeptical. He looks over his shoulder and shakes his head in doubt and …fear? with an “Oh, Please, God, NO!” look.
There’s a new face in Anga’s market storefront with Remolacho. Kike strides in. he’s taking charge of the truck today, and makes a pointed remark about the patron only to find Anga right behind him when Remo tells him Anga’s arrived. Anga got the message. They face off and Kike stalks off. Anga says nothing, then asks Remo why he hasn’t cleaned the office. Remo reminds him that it’s because the day before he was a nanny. Anga cuts him off--any excuse is always enough to slack off. Hurry, the shop looks like a pigpen. Remo orders the new guy off to sweep out the pigpen. Juan comes into the store behind Anga. They greet each other, but we know there’s not so much warmth in Juan’s greeting today. Juan’s not here on business. It’s personal. Anga doesn’t even ask what it’s about—who cried first? Nidia or Kike? Juan tells him that what he’s up to is nothing good. Anga wonders if Juan, too, is thinking he’s a dirty old man? Juan scolds him for taking up with not only a young thing, but also the daughter of a former love! [Ed. Note: No, Juan, that was Fernando who did that, only in reverse.] Juan lets him know just how bad that really is. Anga shakes his head. He’ll tell Juan exactly what he told the other two. He’s helping Yadira unselfishly (desinteresadamente). Juan’s not buying it. He thought Anga was upright (cabal), proper. Anga asserts he is. Yeah??? Yeah. Well, tell Yadira to go home and if you want a young chick, go look for one but not at the Casa Cachón! Juan, please, Anga sighs. Believe me. Juan wonders how he can believe Anga when all the evidence is against it. You want me to believe you? Take back all the fiscal support you’re giving Yadira. Everyone will be happy. Nope, can’t do that, Anga shakes his head and sighs. You can’t? Juan challenges him. Fine, from now on we’re not friends and the contract we have is cancelled, Mr. Angarita Calvo. Anga asks him to not be so drastic, please. I swear I have….reasons to help….Juan interrupts, yelling. What reasons, man? Anga can’t tell him. He bows his head as he sits at his desk. Juan’s face is screwed up in fury. He looks at Anga in disgust and tells Anga what a sense of shame Anga is giving him. Juan stalks away in anger. Anga calls him back—he’ll share the truth with Juan. [Ed. Note: it’s Friday and the 59th minute of YAAJQ, so there has to be a revelation. That’s the rules of the game, folks.] I’m helping Yadira because….she’s my daughter! Juan is predictably impactidíssimo, and we are advised that any similarity to reality is purely coincidental.
Monday: Will Ivonne find out if there really are two? Will Ivonne keep leaving a trail while she stalks him/them? Are we really in Últimos Capítulos? Will we all make it?

Guapos Friday 5/23/08 Acciones speak louder than words . . . or share and share alike
Bobby has taken a picture of Val and Rocky smooching. Rocky tries to get the camera. Val gets Horacio to help. First there's a misunderstanding--when she tells them her boyfriend is going to get killed, Horacio thinks it's Bobby.
Rocky and Bobby try arm wrestling for the photos: first Rocky is winning, then Bobby has the advantage. Rocky compares himself to Rocky Balboa. (Trivia alert: Sylvester "Rocky" Stallone once starred in Over the Top, a legendary turkey about a trucker who wants to make good for his son by . . . you guessed it: arm wrestling. I suffered through it on an airplane in 1987.)
Finally, Bobby yells "Tilin, tilin," which seems to mean "ding ding." Is that like crying Uncle? Anyway, his neck hurts, and Rocky starts to massage it. Just then Horacio comes in and thinks that Rocky is strangling Bobby. No matter: they still don't have the incriminating photos.
Chamuco and Socorro are talking in the kitchen. Chamuco mentions that Mili now has a brother, just like Gamuza. Just then Luci walks in looking for Al and overhears. She jumps to the conclusion that everyone knows about Mili's secret.
Gloria is telling Mili that she is glad she has a new little brother, but that other guy is not really her father: he is drunk and ugly. Mili says that she shouldn't be so negative, but Gloria calls her on that, because Mili always said that if she met her real father, she'd hate him too . . .
Connie asks Mili if she's ready for the meeting. Who will vote her shares? Not you, she says. He asks if Al will do it? No answer yet.
Damian and Hugo get ready for the big meeting. I think he says that Luci signed the papers that morning.
Al and Luci are riding to the meeting in the Hummer. She is thought bubbling about how she thinks Mili told Alex about Connie. Alex asks what's up, but she says "nada."
Braulio is at Rosario's grave, laying out roses. The grave is now labeled with the name "Mama," as Connie had promised.
He cries that he regrets what happened when she told him that she was pregnant with Connie's baby. Flashback: a young Braulio is washing a car (it's pretty clever how they make him up to look younger) and his sister comes up waving a piece of paper--good news, she just got an A in Spelling--no, she's pregnant! He's furious and calls her a golfa (trollop) and slaps her! If the "vieja" finds out, she'll fire them both. No, she says: the "vieja, as you call her" is the grandmother of this baby. She walks away, and young Brau thought bubbles that the baby is the child of Constancio Belmonte. Back to the present: Brau regrets that because of his actions, they left you nothing. Maybe we are to learn that Braulio is the real guilty party in the loss of Rosario.
Everyone assembles for the big meeting. Who is going to vote Mili's shares. She introduces our friend Mat "The Rat" Robledo. We know why Connie doesn't want him, but he says it's because Belmonte Construction has always been a family business. Mat says that Mili can appoint anyone. Al asks what's going on, and she says it's because she doesn't trust any of them. Luci pushes them to move on. Damian pipes up: Luci, aren't you going to 'splain what you did? Enter Hugo, saying Hi, Y'all. Connie says that this is a board meeting--what is Hugo doing there. That's exactly why I'm here. I'm a 20 percent shareholder. Al is impactado. Damian points out that his sister gave his son her shares. Luci looks stricken.
Morgan is trying to wash the car, but he's so nervous about the incriminating photos that he's just swatting it ineffectually with a rag. He whines to Horacio about his need to get those photos back.
Al, Connie and Luci exit the meeting for a side chat. Al and Connie are symbolically aligned on one side of the room, believe it or not, while they both thunder at Luci for her dunderheaded move. She retorts that they're her shares and she can do whatever she wants with them. Al leaves, and Connie says that he can't believe what she did. Business has always come first with him, but with her, it was always Alex this and Alex that. Since his mother's shares went all for Mili, his shares will all go to Val. Now there is nothing for her bastard son. He will be begging on the street.
Bobby asks Al what is going on--he's been acting like a caged lion. Al reveals that his mother has given her shares to Hugo. Bobby tries to shrug it off, since Hugo is family, but Al says no, Hugo hates him. And there's more--the limit of malefaction has been reached when he learned that Mili has appointed Mat as her representative.
Luci comes in and asks to speak to Al alone.
Connie meets Andrea in one of the offices. Hulk mad! she observes. He asks where Mili is, and Andrea tells him that Mili is in the meeting room with Mat. Andrea produces a photo disk and says tantalizingly that she's got some compromising photos. They start kissing, and the photo disk falls on the desk. Bobby comes in, Connie leaves, and Bobby asks Andrea for coffee. She says she'll get it in a little while (she's not exactly jumping to fill Bobby's java order.)
Bobby pulls out his photos and thought bubbles that when Luci sees his photos, he'll be able to conquer Val. He drops his disk and it gets mixed up with the other one, which looks identical. Keep your eye on those disks, ladies and gentleman . . .
Luci tries to talk to Alex, but he won't listen. She says she should not judge him. He asks how she could hate him so much? Why would she give her shares to his enemy? She says she has nothing to explain. He says that if that's her answer, she should get out. It's not just the shares, but also the way she has treated Milagros. Get out and forget you have a son . . . "Luciana."
Connie brings Mat into his office. Luci grabs Mili for a talk. She says that her son hates her. Why did you open your mouth and tell him he's your brother? Luci says the guy from the market was talking, so I know you blabbed. Oops: Bobby and Andrea are standing right there. Mili says You jerk--I didn't say anything. You heard wrong. Chalupa was just talking about Gloria and her little brother. Luci says, you mean that little snotnose I saw in the hall? Yeah. Al knows nothing, but now he will, because you've just revealed it to everyone.
Connie is reading the riot act to Mat again. He knows what Mat is up to. Mat says that no, Regina trusted him to protect Mili--although they never realized what hyenas surrounded her. Connie points out that he asked about Mili just before the reading of the will. Mat says no, he was falling in love with Mili before, when he was her teacher. He leaves and Connie vows : get used to it boy, I'll be watching you, that's for sure.
Luci has now sought Damian for help. She tells him that her son hates her and she begs him to return the shares. Lotsa luck, lady. He tells her that she should tell him that his real father is Nestor, so he can marry Mili. No, never. Please return my son to me, she pleads.
Gloria and her little brother share a sandwich. They are trying to bond. He tries to get her to think that their father isn't so bad.
Al calls Flor. She says he sounds weird. She screeches.
Bobby gets Mili for a heart to heart talk about the bombshell just revealed. She says that it's true--she is the daughter of Constancio Belmonte. So that's why you didn't want to marry Al, it dawns on Bobby. Why didn't you tell him. She goes through Luci's tortured logic. Better he should hate her than to feel the dirtiness of thinking he was in love with his own sister. Please promise you won't tell, she begs desperately. Bobby tries to dissuade her, but she insists.
Connie is crying to Andrea about how his idiot wife gave her shares to Hugo. Andrea observes drily that Luci must be drinking even more than they thought. Connie threatens to kill Luci. Andrea rubs it in some more--she told Connie those shares would never be his. But why doesn't Luci prefer her own son? Connie says there's something else bothering him--that Mili picked Mat to manage her shares. Andrea complains that Regina, her godmother, forgot her in the will. Connie points out that Regina forgot everyone, including him, her own son. But if she sticks with him, she won't lack for anything.
Andrea tells him to close his eyes. He does eagerly, as he loves her surprises. When he opens them, she has handed him a watch that is engraved "Andrea and Connie forever."
In a parallel universe, Luci and Nestor are at a bar. He has her close her eyes and he gives her a surprise: a ring engraved "Luci and Nestor forever." She loves it, but she says it's risky. She downs a couple of glasses of red wine. He says he doesn't care about Connie, he will never notice the ring. She slugs some more wine. Nestor tries to steer the conversation to Alex. He says Alex has suffered enough, and he wants him to know the truth. She just drinks more, and he says that drinking is not the solution. He reminds her that the secret is out. She asks him to forget Alex, and he says he can't.
Avances: Luci prepares to look at photos while Bobby watches triumphantly and Val and Rocky tremble next to her: She pulls out a photo of Andrea smooching with Connie. She gasps, and Val says, Mom, I can explain. Luci says she doesn't have to explain--Bobby is a pervert.
Meanwhile, Connie is opening his set of photos, thinking it's going to be the fun pix of him and Andrea. Oops: it's Val and Rocky. He gasps.
Next: Val and Rocky jump up and down on her bed saying We're saved, we're saved. Mili debuts yet another new look: a Carlitos hat without the pins and raggedy edges, worn with her nice dresses. The announcer says that it's a perfect condition for Flor's and her father's plan. Flor's father threatens Al again.

Hugo's return from the dead fails to touch Soledad's heart; Eloisa gets a fright and Arturo can't do it one-handed

In my heart, you are dead, Hugo
Alcides repeats the important information that Rebeca told him from yesterday’s episode – Soledad is the daughter of Jeremias Montenegro, not Lucas de Obragon. Apparently in her death throes, Rebeca tells Alcides that Ester is a liar. “How so?” ask Alcides. “Before he died, Jeremias told Ester that Soledad’s future would be assured,” gasps Rebeca, “but the treasure belongs to me.” Alcides tells her not to talk. Rebeca wants to know how Alcides found the treasure but he says that doesn’t matter. She is not to mention the treasure to Dr. Max. Alcides says that he will be right back. He calls for Dr. Max and while he does, Rebeca dies. (Then there were Two Tesoro Trackers – I hope they both stay alive for a while. We lose the alliteration with One.)
Dr. Dan says that he feels like a murderer. Michelle tells him that he isn’t a murder. He’s dedicated his life to saving others. What happened was an accident. Dr. Dan says that he brought Dr. Max there. Michelle says that he didn’t intend to hurt Dr. Max. He did it to himself. He shouldn’t feel guilty. Dr. Max was obsessed with his crazy idea of reviving his dead wife. Dr. Dan didn’t throw him over the cliff, he did it himself.
More Arturo and Margot. (At least Arturo took off his gloves.) Uh oh, Arturo can’t get it up. The mind is willing but the body won’t cooperate. This has never happened to him before. He’s is a freak. Margot reaches out to him but he tells her not to touch him. Margot gives the tried and true, “It could happen to anyone” but Arturo says he doesn’t want her pity.
Hugo is packing up his stuff. He tells Boris that his parents hired tutors to educate him. Between them and a myriad of books, Hugo got a well-rounded education. He has to use that knowledge now to survive. Boris says that before he escaped from the reformatory and came to Hugo’s house, he was trained as a blacksmith. He could teach Hugo to work with metals. It’s a hard and humble profession. Hugo says that no job is hard or humble if it’s done with dignity. (Are you going to wear a leather apron without a shirt, Hugo?) Hugo asks Boris to teach him metal smithing. Michelle comes in to tell Hugo that Soledad is missing. They’ve looked everywhere.
The two Obragon witches are sitting with Lucas. He asks for Soledad. They say that she isn’t around. Ester says that Hugo barely escaped death on the scaffold. Naturally, Lucas is confused but Antonia says that it is too long a story to tell now. The upshot is that Hugo is alive but Soledad doesn’t know that. Lucas tries to get up to find Soledad but they tell him he is too weak. Lucas realizes that he can’t feel his legs. What has happened to him?
Michelle tells Hugo that Soledad ran away from the gallows when she thought Hugo was going to be executed. She doesn’t know that Boris saved Hugo. She is probably in an emotional state. Michelle asks if Hugo has any idea where she might be. Hugo flashes back to when they courted in a park. He says that he might know where she is and leaves.
Lucas asks what happened to him. Why can’t he feel his legs? The witches start to tell lies but Dr. Dan comes in and says that as a doctor, he has to tell the truth to his patients. Dr. Dan tells Lucas that he had a heart attack. It wasn’t his first one and he had damage from a lifetime of drinking (was that Hugo’s fault too?). He survived but there was brain damage that prevents a signal from being sent to his legs. “Does that mean I will never walk again?” asks Lucas. Dr. Dan says that he won’t lie to him – he won’t walk again.
Yippee!! Los Burques are back!! They are down on their luck – no food in the house, no job. There’s a knock at the door. Elena thinks it is the police come because they haven’t paid the rent in so many months but it is a lawyer with the will of Guillermo’s father. Guille and Elena are impactados.
Marina says that she won’t let them catch her. Paquito and Eloisa will turn her in. She gets the money out of the wardrobe. “You returned to me, You’re mine,” she says, “Now I can have the life I deserve.” She is moving to leave when Paquito asks her where she thinks she is going.
Arturo says that he is a freak, etc. He wants to kill Alcides for doing this to him. Margot tells him to relax and find his inner child. She is comforting him when Hercu-less come into the room. He’s drunk, of course. He says that is how he expected to find her. She never left off being a tramp (a “zorra” literally, a (female) fox).
Eloisa has come to the cabaña to find Alcides. She finds Rebeca’s body. “Alcides killed my Aunt Rebeca!” she says as Alcides comes up behind her.
Soledad is sitting against a tree in the park. Hugo comes up behind her and says her name. She looks around, “Hugo,” she says, “You’re alive.” “Yes,” Hugo replies, “I am alive, I’m alive, alive.” Soledad thinks that she is imagining things, “He’s not alive. I’m going crazy.” Hugo comes up to her, “I’m alive. Come, touch me. It’s me.” He kisses her hand, “It’s me,” he says. “It can’t be,” she says. “Boris appeared and saved me,” says Hugo, “He declared before everyone that I didn’t have anything to do with Marina’s accident. The judge let me go. I’m a free man, Soledad, free and innocent.” Soledad says that she always knew he was innocent of what happened to Marina. But the best thing is that my daughter will have her father.” “What are you saying, Soledad?” asks Hugo. “That I’m happy you are alive, Hugo but that you are not innocent. You are guilty of all that happened because you lied to me, you pretended to be your brother, you betrayed me and it is your fault that my father is in the hospital fighting for his life. No, you are not an innocent man.”
“You killed my Aunt Rebeca, Alcides,” repeats Eloisa. Alcides says that he didn’t kill her. Eloisa says that Alcides killed Rebeca because she found the treasure and now he will kill her. She becomes hysterical and Alcides has to slap her. He says that he didn’t kill Rebeca. She did find the treasure but she was killed by a trap he set for robbers. “Then the treasure does exist?” says Eloisa. “Yes,” says Alcides, “the treasure does exist.”
Paquito wants the briefcase back. Marina refuses saying that it doesn’t belong to him. It contains the money from the investors that Paquito stole from Hugo. Paquito slaps Marina and takes back the briefcase saying that this insolence will cost her dearly.
Hercu-less says that Margot betrayed him. She tries to get him to leave because he is drunk. On the way out, Arturo says that Herc has gone soft and fallen in love with a whore. Women like Margot don’t have owners. Herc replies that Margot is his woman. He pulls a knife and starts a fight with Arturo.
Hugo and Soledad in the park-
H: Soledad, what happened today was a miracle. Being here with you, looking into your eyes when not too long ago I was about to die. I think life has given us another chance.
S: I think life wants to give an opportunity but for you, not us. We don’t exist anymore.
H: Yes, we exist. Who are you fooling? The mere idea of never seeing each other again tormented you as much as me. Don’t lie. I saw it in your eyes, Soledad, when you came to the plaza to see my execution.
S: Sure, it hurt to think that I would never see you again because I thought that you were dead. The truth is that I cried and prayed a lot for you for God to forgive you and have compassion for all you had done.
H: But now I am alive, Soledad, I’m alive. We could have a second chance. Our daughter, you and me. The three of us.
S: You clearly haven’t understood anything. You ruined that chance because you pretended to be Alcides and I got used to living without you. You taught me to live without you. I don’t need you anymore.
The lawyer says that Guille’s father felt bad because his wife, Guille’s stepmother, mistreated him. He left his whole very large fortune to Guillermo but on two conditions.
Eloisa tells Alcides that if he has confessed to her that the treasure exists, then he is going to kill her. Alcides says that he isn’t a saint but he isn’t a criminal. The only person he will kill for is Soledad. For her, he will do anything. “What about the treasure?” says Eloisa. “All I’m admitting is that yes, the treasure is in my power,” says Alcides, “Only two people in the world know about it’s existence: your Aunt Rebeca, who is now dead, and now you. Or does anyone else know?” Eloisa lies and says that only she and Rebeca knew about it. “Are you sure?” asks Alcides, “no one else?” Eloisa says that Paquito was investigating it once but he thought they were tales her aunt had invented. Alcides flashes back to running into Paquito in the Obragon’s garden on the day of Hugo’s trial. “I’m sure that Paquito doesn’t know anything,” says Eloisa. Alcides says that they have concluded that only he and Eloisa know about it. He has to make a decision. Eloisa begs him not to kill her. Alcides says that he isn’t going to kill her. He isn’t a murderer. “Then what are you going to do with me now that I know your secret?” Alcides eats nuts.
Marina tries to escape from Rebeca’s house but Paquito drags her back in. He’s not going to let her testify against him.
Hercu-less pulls a gun on Arturo. Margot begs him not to shoot. Herc says that he didn’t want to be a murderer but Margot betrayed him. Arturo grabs the gun out of Herc’s hand and in the struggle Arturo’s glove comes off and Herc sees that he has lost a hand.
Hugo and Soledad:
H: Soledad, my love (amor mio). Don’t tell me that there is no hope for our love because that is worse than being dead. What good is life without you and my daughter?
S: When we said goodbye in your cell, I thought that I had made everything clear between us, Hugo.
H: But why? Because you can’t forgive me? I told you that I am sorry from the bottom of my heart (“hasta los huesos,” literally “to the bones”). Then, at least for now, give me some hope for the future.
S: That is part of the past. There’s nothing we can do.
H: All your family is very worried about you. They’re looking for you.
S: How did you know I was here?
H: Take a guess. We shared our first kiss in this park, do you remember? That’s why I thought you might be here.
S: I have to go. My father and daughter need me.
She turns to go.
H: And you? Why did you come here?
S: I wanted to change the last image that I had of you. I wanted to remember those happy times when we were together. But as I told you, it’s part of the past.
H: In my cell, you told me that you loved me.
S: It was true. I love the Hugo of my memories. But even if you’re alive, I want to be very clear. There is nothing for you in my heart. In my heart, you are dead, Hugo.
Alcides tells Eloisa that from today she will play his game without cheating. He will not tolerate betrayal. He says that Rebeca died due to her greed. Alcides starts to say something about the treasure but Eloisa hysterically says that she doesn’t want to know anything more, it’s too risky. Alcides says that Eloisa is still at risk. The situation with Marina is very dangerous. If she talks, many heads could roll and the first would be Eloisa’s. Eloisa says that is why she came. Alcides says that they have to do something about Rebeca and Marina. Things are getting complicated. Eloisa has the bright idea to hide Marina in plain sight as the Mysterious Lady.
Hercu-less asks what happened to Arturo. Arturo replies that it was Herc’s fault since he wasn’t around when Arturo needed him. Herc figures out this is why Herc hasn’t returned home. He doesn’t want his mommy or anyone to know he’s missing a hand. “Did you have an accident?” asks Herc. “Yes,” answers Arturo, “an accident called Alcides de Medina!”
Eloisa tells Alcides that she will handle Marina. Alcides says that he trusts her and she says that she trust him. She will play his game but she needs his protection. Alcides responds that nothing will happen to her. Alcides then says that they have to do something with Rebeca (she is lying in the chair but the front of her gown shows no sign of the arrow wound). Eloisa says that she couldn’t explain how she was wounded if Eloisa brought her body home. Alcides says not to worry. He knows who to blame her death on. Eloisa asks who is the lucky person but Alcides that she’ll find out when it happens. When she is told about her aunt’s death, she must pretend to be surprised. Eloisa agrees and Alcides tells her to leave. As Eloisa is backing out of the room, Alcides says, “Now you know I am not a killer, right?” Eloisa nods, “But if anyone finds out about this conversation and because of it, I lose the chance to win Soledad’s love, you know what I am capable of, right?” Eloisa swears to him that no one will find out.
Hercu-less is surprised. “Alcides de Medina is responsible for this?” he says. Arturo explains what happened in the gunpowder cabaña. Herc flashes back to Alcides telling him that he was wrong about Arturo being dead. “Now I understand everything,” says Herc. He tells Arturo that he understands why Arturo was so angry with him because he wasn’t there to protect him. Arturo leaves saying that he never wants to see Margot again.
The lawyer tells Los Burques that the first condition of receiving the inheritence is that they have to move to Guille’s father’s mansion in London. The second is that they have to have a child that bears the name Burque. “A Burquecito!” says Elena.
Lucas is asleep. The Obragon witches are sorry they told him the truth about his condition. “What truth?” says Soledad coming into the room, “Did something happen to my father?”
Hercu-less says that he isn’t a gentleman like Arturo but he doesn’t want sloppy seconds (“tampoco soy plato de secondo mesa,” literally, “I’m not a plate from the second table”). He blames Margot for breaking her promise not to be with anyone else. Margot says that she was with Arturo to protect him. But she says that nothing happened – Arturo is impotent. He tried but he couldn’t. Herc is impactado.
Boris says to Michelle that Hugo must be very sorry for what he did. He has tremendous love for Soledad. Michelle says, “Sometimes in love, we make mistakes. Mistakes that we pay dearly for the rest of our lives.” Boris says those are wise words. He loved his wife, Marina, deeply. He still wears his wedding ring. But his love blinded him to the resentment she had against him until it was too late. (Blinded is right, Boris. It was pretty obvious.) Hugo comes in. Michelle asks if he found Soledad. He says that she was where he thought she would be. Hugo sits down on the bed and sighs.
H: It’s all over. Soledad only has an immense hatred of me in her heart. She will never forgive me.
M: I’m very sorry, Hugo.
H: Now, I must go on with my life. Go forward.
M: Yes, that is the best thing you can do. When you fall, you have to get back in the saddle (“cuando uno cae, hay que aprender a levantarse,” literally, “when one falls, one has to learn to get get up”). And if you need help with anything, you can count on me.
Soledad tells Ester and Antonia that she saw Hugo but nothing has changed. He is dead in her heart. Dr. Dan looks guiltily hopeful. Dr. Dan tells her the whole Lucas is paralyzed thing again and Soledad is upset and embraces Dr. Dan. The credits roll.
Monday – Soledad sees Michelle on Hugo’s arm.

Fuego, Friday 5/23 (#s 1 & 2): Gran Noche de Reruns
- We are introduced to Libia Reyes and Bernardo Elizondo, who are having a March-December romance. We also meet Libia's volatile brothers (heroic Juan, intellectual dreamer Franco, and fun Oscar) and Bernardo's daughters (heroic Sofia, intellectual dreamer Sarita, and fun Jimena). The Reyes brothers immediately dislike Bernardo and assume that he's using their sister.
- We see that the Reyes are orphans who have a bakery and are barely scraping by financially. The Elizondos have a hacienda which is apparently very profitable even though there's no hint as to what is grown/produced there.
- We watch concha-baker Juan and concha-enthusiast Sofia have their very first simultaneous split-screen conchagasm.
- We discover that Bernardo's wife, Crabi/Gabriela, is a raging bitch who won't have sex with her husband nor allow a separation; guilts her daughters mercilessly and doesn't permit them to have a social life; forced her oldest daughter Sofia to marry a slimeball named Fe*nando shortly after being raped; and dreams of someday having her eccentric but observant father institutionalized.
- We are told that Sofia finds Fe*nando repulsive, doesn't love him, will never love him, experiences post-traumatic stress about the rape every time he touches her, and married him only with the understanding that she won't have sex with him. He is obviously frustrated by this arrangement, but tolerates it for reasons that seem obvious to everyone watching this telenovela, yet none of the Elizondos (except maybe Grandpa Agustin, but he's not an Elizondo, he's an Acevedo).
- We find that Fe*nando spends his spare time raping and otherwise abusing a nightclub performer named Rosario, whose act consists of one song about a killer bonbon (or possibly a bonbon killer, I'm not sure which). We also see that Rosario and Franco are a potential item.
- We meet Eva, the housekeeper, who is in love with Bernardo and is treated like garbage by Crabiela.
- We witness Libia using the only high-tech gadget in town - a pregnancy test - to discover she's pregnant; meanwhile Bernardo plans to separate from his bitter, crabby, self-proclaimed irreproachable wife.
- We watch as Fe*nando semi-accidentally kills Bernardo in a scuffle and pins the accident on some local guys, then later bludgeons/chokes/drowns Libia (who threw a fit at Bernardo's wake when she found out he was married) after discovering that Lidia's unborn child could inherit some of Bernardo's estate. He also steals Libia's mother's necklace.
Monday: Oscar and Franco make friends with the Uribe twits, Tall One and Piglet.

La Traición, Thurs., 5-22 - Tragedy touches one of the Three Tesoro Trackers

Faithful friends
Alcides tells Hercu-less to take the money. Herc asks if this is a trick. Alcides says that he didn’t do what he was ordered to do but he tried. He didn’t betray Alcides. Herc says that he is sorry that he didn’t kill Boris. Alcides stops Herc from taking the money with his cane, “Your error saved my plan,” he says, “I forgive you because my brother Hugo wasn’t hanged but I warn you, not another lie, not one.” Herc takes the money and leaves. Alcides checks his pockets. He needs more money.
The Three Tesoro Trackers (TTT’s) (thank you Nancy) are complaining about their failure to find anything. Paquito is calm because, as he says to himself, he already has a fortune in the money he stole from the investors. He tells Eloisa and Rebeca that the plans for the Obragon house show that the treasure isn’t in the house, it’s outside. Rebeca says she wants to see the plans because she’s going to the house while everyone is at the hospital.
Ester asks Michelle if Soledad was with her in the plaza. Michelle says yes but she couldn’t stay to see the hanging. Michelle thought she had returned to the hospital. Soledad needs to know that Hugo is alive. Antonia suggests that Soledad went to the house to see the baby. Michelle and Andres leave to check there.
Hercu-less comes to see Margot. He’s come to tell her that he has enough money to buy a house just for them. They kiss. Margot says that she wants to his, only his. Of course, Arturo walks in on them. He says that now he understands why Margot wouldn’t be his last night, “So this is the creep who wants you just for him,” he says.
Eloisa and Paquito are making out. Eloisa asks Paquito thinks that Rebeca will find the treasure in the Obragon house with the clues that he gave her. He says, “Of course not. Do you think she’ll find it under a rug?” They are getting hot and heavy when Marina opens the door. Eloisa sees her and asks what she is doing here. Marina says that she has nowhere to go. Either they help her or she’ll tell the judge that Eloisa convinced her to lie about Hugo.
Rebeca is roaming around the garden of the Obragon house but she can’t find anything. She curses her dead husband. She hears horse neigh and hides. It’s Alcides. He goes right to the entrance to the treasure place and Rebeca sees him.
Eloisa and Paquito are trying to deal with Marina when the hangin’ judge calls and said he wants to speak to Eloisa. Somebody left the door open. Confusion reigns but Paquito and Eloisa leave Marina in the bedroom and go to see about the judge. Marina runs out of the bedroom and starts taking things out of a wardrobe to hide in it, I guess. She finds the money that Paquito stole from Hugo. A flashback to her confrontation with Boris is the proof. “So it’s true,” she says, “The investors’ money really was stolen from Don Hugo.”
Ursula is so happy to hear that Aurora’s daddy is alive (Aurora is playing with Ursula’s earrings again). She is also happy that Boris returned and saved Hugo. But she hasn’t seen Soledad and now Michelle and Andres are concerned that no one has seen Soledad since she was in the square. Soledad has disappeared. Ursula asks about Lucas and Michelle gives her the good and bad news – alive/will never walk again. Ursula says that Soledad will never forgive Hugo for this. Where could she be?
Marina comes to the amazing conclusion that either Eloisa, Rebeca or Paquito stole the money from Hugo. She hears Paquito and Eloisa returning and hides in the wardrobe. Then Paquito and Eloisa play a little comedy on the judge by receiving him with Eloisa in her underwear and Paquito made up and with a towel on his head. The judge is taken aback but pursues his inquiries. He wants to know if Marina told Eloisa anything about where she was going. Eloisa at first says that she has never spoken to the servant Marina but the judge has already been told that Eloisa was seen talking to Marina in the tavern.
Alcides goes into the treasure vault. He unhooks a string or trip wire that is stretched across the entrance to the vault. He flashes back to taking Vlad’s amulet and saying that he will always wear it. For some reason, Alcides takes the amulet off. He says that thanks to Vlad, he is the owner of an immense fortune. He will hire Dr. Max to find a cure for his niece’s catalepsy. He has to make Soledad love him as much as he loves her. Whatever it costs. Outside, Rebeca is already betraying her partners. She was Jeremias’ widow, the treasure belongs to her alone. She will wait until Alcides is gone, take what is hers and they’ll never see her again.
Arturo asks Margot if she is in love with Hercu-less. Herc signals her to say no and she does. Herc is a client like any other. Women like her don’t fall in love. Arturo tells Herc to get out. He has unfinished business with Margot. It’s a good thing Arturo can’t see Herc’s expression.
Michelle tells the Obragon witches that Soledad is not at the house and no one knows where she is. Ester says that Soledad was very upset. Where could she be? Ester wants to go looking for Soledad but Michelle says that she will do that. Dr. Dan is finished with Boris. Michelle asks how he is and Boris says that he is much better. Boris thanks Michelle. Michelle responds that it was Boris who helped Hugo. Michelle tells Boris that Soledad is missing. Boris will tell Hugo. The Obragon witches tell Boris to get out since he is Hugo’s accomplice. (Real charmers those two.) Michelle says that Dr. Dan looks exhausted. Is he ok? Dr. Dan says that he has something to tell her, something terrible.
The judge asks Eloisa what she talked to Marina about in the tavern. Eloisa says that Marina was afraid that she would be locked up if it was discovered that Hugo was impersonating his brother. Eloisa says that she counseled Marina that the worst thing was to run away. Paquito confirms that he was present during this conversation. Eloisa says that then Boris came to the tavern and spoke with Marina. The judge says that he will check that out and asks them to let him know immediately if they hear from Marina. The judge leaves. Eloisa says that they have to get rid of Marina as soon as possible. If she is caught and she talks, they’re lost.
Now we see what is going on in the treasure vault. The string is a trip wire for a crossbow. The vault is protected from thieves. Alcides leaves. Rebeca says that now it is time to collect her reward. After putting up with that old fart Jeremias, finally she is going to be an immensely rich woman.
Michelle asks Dr. Dan what he is so upset about. She thinks it has to do with Lucas’ treatment but Dr. Dan says no. Finally, he says that while everyone was at Hugo’s execution, he killed Dr. Max. Michelle is impactada.
Arturo wants Margot to put out, use her best skills and do exactly what he wants. Hercu-less is still standing there and Arturo orders him to leave. He does so reluctantly.
At the Hacienda, Hugo is collecting his stuff and having memories. He says to himself that Soledad will never forgive him especially now that her father is handicapped. How could he ask for her forgiveness? Boris comes in. Hugo motions him to sit down next to him and asks how he is feeling. Boris says that physically he is fine but, as Hugo knows, a broken heart hurts the most. It takes time to heal. Boris says that there is a huge gulf between him and Marina. He gives Hugo Michelle’s message about Soledad’s disappearance. Hugo says that she must be very upset about what happened to her father. He doesn’t thinks she wants to see him. Even if he wanted to help her, he can’t. Boris also tells Hugo that it was Hercu-less who kidnapped him from the prison. Boris concludes that Arturo was behind it. Hugo asks why he didn’t say so. Boris replies that Herc didn’t want to kill him. He doesn’t know why Herc didn’t obey Arturo’s order. Boris describes how when Herc told him to run away from San Marino, Boris recognized Herc’s voice. He fell down the ravine and before he passed out, he heard Herc say that he didn’t want to kill Boris. That is why Boris didn’t denounce Herc. Hugo concludes that it is Arturo who is behind all this. They will have to settle accounts with him.
Boris asks Hugo what he is going to do? Hugo says that he is ruined. He doesn’t have a penny. All his assets are now in Alcides’ name to pay the debts owed to the investors. Hugo says that he can’t keep Boris in his service. Boris is totally free to take any job he pleases. “No, Señor, don’t say that,” responds Boris, “I will never leave you. You supported me when no one else did. I have some money; it’s not much but it will support us for a while.” Hugo says, “You are a good person and a great man. It was my fault that I lost Soledad and it was also my fault that you lost Marina.” “No, sir,” says Boris, “She got lost on her own. She preferred to sell her soul to the devil.” “We have to start from zero,” says Hugo, “We have to start a new life. Are you sure you want to stay with me?” “I am your faithful servant, sir,” replies Boris, “We had some nice times in this house for which I thank you very much. Now it’s the moment to pay you back for all you have done for me. You can count on me.” They have a manly display of affection.
Paquito and Eloisa search for Marina after the judge has left. They find her in the wardrobe. Eloisa says that it was stupid of her to come to this house. What if the judge had seen her? She can’t stay here. Meanwhile Paquito is checking that his stolen money is still there and Marina is watching out of the corner of her eye. Marina says that she wants money. Eloisa says wasn’t what she gave Marina before enough? Paquito says that Marina is not in a position to threaten anyone.
Rebeca goes into the treasure vault. She is excited to see all the treasure and resolves to have it all for herself. She trips the wire and the crossbow fires an arrow into her stomach. She curses Alcides. No one can hear her. She will die here alone. Meanwhile, Alcides realizes he has left the talisman behind. He goes back for it and finds Rebeca. Alcides asks how she found this place? She says that she came to get what is hers. She is Jeremias’s widow, the treasure should belong to her. Now she is going to die. Alcides pulls the arrow out. Rebeca begs him not to let her die. He says that he won’t let her die but she has to promise not to say anything about the treasure vault. She agrees and Alcides says he will take her to Dr. Max’s. He carries her out. (Doesn’t anybody in the Obragon house notice all these comings and goings in their garden?)
Back at the endless scene with Arturo, Margot has lost her professionalism. Arturo thinks it is his handicap but she says that it her problem. Arturo asks if her problem is Hercu-less. Margot says no, Herc is just a client. Arturo responds that he is a client too, from now on he will be her only client.
Hercu-less is drowning his sorrows in drink and he flashes back to his happy exchange of vows with Margot after pond sex. Omar asks him what’s wrong. He looks like he’s seen a ghost. “I haven’t seen a ghost,” says Herc, “but I will soon.”
Dr. Dan tells Michelle about how he discovered that Dr. Max killed his father and what happened after that. Michelle asks how Dr. Dan discovered that Dr. Max kept his dead wife in a cabinet. Dr. Dan says that he never liked Dr. Max so he did some investigating. He swears that he didn’t want to kill Dr. Max but in the end, it was he who killed him.
Eloisa tells Marina that she can stay the night at the house and then they’ll find a safe place for her. Paquito pulls Eloisa aside and asks what she is doing. Eloisa says that she will ask Alcides for help in dealing with Marina. Paquito warns her to be careful. She leaves. Marina asks Paquito about the wardrobe and he says that it is his. He realizes that she found the money he stole from the investors.
I guess if Arturo has to wear a glove one hand, he thinks he has to wear one on the other hand as well. It looked pretty weird to see him caressing Margot with his good hand in a glove. Anyway, Margot thinks to herself that if she tells Arturo that she loves Hercu-less, Arturo will kill him. What should she do? (You fake it, Margot! Has love made you stupid? She’s a perfect match for Herc. in the intelligence department.) Arturo tells her to strip.
Hercu-less is drunk. He says that Margot told him she was going to change and along came Arturo and took what was his. His new boss hates Arturo and even if Alcides doesn’t tell him to, Herc says that he is going to kill Arturo like a dog.
Alcides brings Rebeca to Dr. Max’s but of course, Dr. Max isn’t there. Rebeca manages to gasp out the information that the treasure really belongs to Soledad because she is Jeremias’ daughter. Alcides is impactado.
The credits roll.
Tomorrow – Michelle goes for Hugo on the rebound.

Guapos Thursday May 22, 2008: Luci finds out that if you drink down far enough, sure enough, there IS truth at the bottom of a bottle
The family is gathered, plus one, as Luci notes, meaning Mili. Mili is looking a bit goth in her little black dress and straight hair and her face so pale. Lawyer Robledo with Mateo at his side starts in with the reading of the will and he cuts right to the chase: Regina leaves everything to Mili. Luci takes a fit, but Constancio says those were his mother’s wishes, so that’s the way it’ll be.
Alex, who just last night was telling Flor how Mili is not that way, now with an evil smile says congratulations Mili. Everything worked out the way you hoped, and even better. Good job. He leaves and Vale runs out probably to talk to him. Mili is anguished. Where is everybody going? Robledo asks. I’m not done yet. Oh yeah you are says Luci, what else could there be, kisses for everyone? Carry on, says Connie.
Robledo says there are two conditions. The first is that Mili live in La Soledad mansion as part of the family. Luci stares at him agape. Second, Mili gets her money when she marries. Mateo glances up at Connie and Connie holds his gaze. In the meantime, says Robledo, Mili will get a stipend of 20,000 pesos a month.
Mili is shaking badly. I don’t want anything, she says. Connie puts his hand on her shoulder and says take it, it was her wish. It all belongs to you now. Mili runs out and Mateo bolts after her. Robledo, a little startled, leaves and says he’s going to catch up with his grandson.
Luci, Damien and Connie are left in the room. Luci is erupting: I didn’t marry you, she says to Connie, and get stuck with you all those years, for her to get what belongs to my children!
Vale is talking to Alex in another room. She wants to know why he treated Mili like that just now, after all the times he stood up for her against everyone saying she wasn’t a money grubber. I still want to believe she’s not, says Alex. Vale says then why? Are you upset that the abuela didn’t leave you anything? Alex says no, how ‘bout you? Vale says yeah, a little bit, but what she did leave me you can’t buy anywhere, namely her tremendous love for us, her wise words. What the hey, we’re still millionaires, but what I’m worried about is you. What is this attitude about Mili? Alex says he doesn’t want to talk about it, he’d like to just be alone a while.
Luci is still overflowing with rage. Connie says he’s glad her bastard son didn’t get anything, and as for Vale, she has him, she’ll get everything of his. Luci says she’ll contest the will but Connie says don’t even think about it. Damien asks why Connie is so heated about all this, a bad conscience maybe? Connie stomps out.
Damien tries to calm Luci down. He points out that Alex could get the money by marrying Mili. Luci realizes this is true and says that’s why Regina did it! She’s getting the last laugh. No way will I let Alex marry her! But why not, says Damien, it was a clever little trick. Luci replies because Regina was always throwing Connie’s little bastard girl in my face and I’m not going to let her keep doing it from beyond the grave. I won’t let him marry her – NUNCA!
Mateo is walking with Mili out by the fountain and counseling her not to make any decisions right now. She is distraught and says she didn’t want Regina’s money, she wanted Regina to be with her. And now this condition that she is to marry – why? She doesn’t want to marry – NUNCA! Mateo says but you’ll never get your inheritance if you don’t. I don’t care, says Mili, I don’t need an inheritance. Well, says Mateo, you have enough monthly money not to have to work and then when you marry…. I won’t says Mili. I fell in love once, deeply, and I don’t want to every let anyone in my heart again. He gives her a light hug and oops here comes Robledo.
Mili runs off. Robledo says tell me I’m not seeing what I think I’m seeing. What? says Mateo innocently. Robledo says I told you to stay away from her. Mat says I knew her from before, she was my student, I didn’t know she was the girl who was to inherit. Honest! You better watch yourself, says Robledo.
Karla asks an amused Damien what was in the will. He tells her and ay no ay no ay noooo!!! she takes a fit.
Vale and Morgan are walking outside and discussing the will and why Alex is acting so strange and why he and Mili have so many problems when they love each other so much.
Vale asks Morgan if Mili has shown any signs of money grubbing and he says no, she’d give up her dinner to give it to the poor. She’s nothing like that. Vale says something has happened between them and I’m going to find out what it is. They look around to make sure the coast is clear and share a sweet hug.
Gloria and Lina are telling Mili that she is rich and now Karla’s going to be sick to her stomach. Mili says all she can think of is all the problems it’s going to cause. Why did the abuela do it? You deserve it, say the girls, she was so happy with you. Lina says she really changed with you around. The girls say now you have a ton of money to hire detectives to look for your father. Mili shifts her eyes around. There is a knock at the door.
Speak of the devil! It’s Connie. He asks the girls to leave, then he says that Damien has called a meeting for an important discussion and now that Mili owns 20% of the shares, she should come. Mili says I don’t know anything about stuff like that. Connie says you need to appoint someone to vote your shares. Like who? asks Mili, looking like she knows the answer. Well, like me for instance, says Connie. She says now wasn’t it Alex who voted Regina’s shares? Things have changed, says Connie. I see that your relationship with him isn’t going well. Anybody but you, says Mili.
Connie says think it over. In the meantime, watch out for Mateo. Now that you have money, there will be a lot of men coming on to you with ulterior motives. Mili says like you are doing now? Please, says Connie, I’m just looking out for your best interests. The best thing is you continue with your studies. I’m going to watch over you, as my mother did. This rattles her a bit. I’ll think it over she says, but please go now, I want to be alone.
Damien is visiting Hugo in his room. Damien says it’s just as well Hugo wasn’t at the reading of the will. Hugo explains it had to do with Regina (I guess not his branch of the family). Damien says you like Mili, huh? Hugo corrects I love her. Well, guess what, says Damien, Regina left her everything. Hugo is amazed and wonders why nothing for Alex and Vale. Damien says Luci was plenty amazed too and he thinks that Regina knew she’d be dying soon. Damien tells about the conditions of the will and says I’m not one to tell you what to do, but if you could get her to love you, nobody would steal her from the altar this time. Hugo smiles.
Luci is talking to Alex in her room, having a fit over the will and telling him that he must contest the will and that there are no lengths to which that money-hungry girl will not go. Alex says he’s not in the mood, he doesn’t want to contest the will, and don’t talk that way about Milagros.
Luci goes into full serpent mode. She notes that guess what – Regina’s surgery was a success, the doctor expected her to go home within days, and then wouldn’t you know, somehow she’s dead after having been alone with Milagros. Alex says are you implying what I think you’re implying? He stomps over to the couch.
Well, I’m not really saying, it just seems odd says Luci. Alex jumps up and gets into her face, yelling. You may not like her, but she is not capable of what you’re implying – it’s monstrous. Luci says, but it’s a possibility, my love, you can’t deny it. Don’t yell at me!
I’m yelling because I’ve had it with your intriguing and with your venom! Leave me in peace! Luci says I’m just trying to open your eyes. Alex has her by the shoulders, his face is just inches from hers and he’s still yelling. He says have you been drinking, because I want to believe that all this stupidity is alcohol talking. You know I gave it up, she fudges. He throws her back onto the bed and rushes over to her dresser and starts going through the drawers like a madman. Then he goes to the bedside table and sure enough pulls out a big bottle of hooch. What’s this??? He demands, Luci just wags her head no and cries. Busted.
Hugo is telling Damien he would love to marry Mili, but not for money, be very clear about that. Oh of course, says Damien, but since she’s inherited, it would be good for us… Hugo says why are you talking “us’? Damien says well I’m your father! If you marry you can’t forget about me. Don’t forget I helped you – look at how I got Luci’s shares for you. Ah, says Hugo, everything is part of some kind of deal with you, isn’t it? Never mind that, says Damien, you’ll marry Mili, I promise you.
Luci is telling Alex to calm down. He is holding up the bottle in her face and says you are destroying yourself. I know your life is hell, but this is no solution. I just lost my grandmother, the only person in my life who listened to me, who understood what I felt, who supported me.
But I support you, pleads Luci. Then why shouts Alex, every time in my life that I need you, like now, you are drunk? Luci slaps him, then quickly apologizes. Get away from me, says Alex retreating from her. Luci says please, the one good thing I have done in my life is to protect you. Protect me? says Alex, you have tried to tear me from the one thing in my life that I truly love. I have lost Milagros, I have lost love. He tilts up the bottle and takes a lot of giant gulps.
What are you doing? says Luci. I’m trying to understand you, says Alex. Luci is sobbing. Alex says, you were never happy, and now I’m not, and this is your way to feel better. He goes to take another hit, but she pulls the bottle away. You are young, she says, you don’t understand. What you’re feeling now will pass.
Alex says despite all you’ve done, I know that Milagros loves me and that something happened, but I don’t know what it is. Your story that she is after me for money just doesn’t float. He takes her firmly by the chin: I swear, swear! that I am going to find out what happened. Don’t try to turn me against her, don’t try to turn me bitter, which is what you want. He offers the bottle – here, let’s get drunk together. Regina says I would give my life for you. But Alex says I don’t want your life, or your support. Because you and Regina, you are two very different people.
I’m all alone now, says Alex. I don’t want your life, I want mine. (They are almost nose to nose now.) I want to live my own life without you interfering. All I want from you is a little understanding. And leave me alone. He leaves.
Luci slowly melts onto her couch, and falls apart with grief. This is a nightmare day for her, no doubt about it. She takes a swig from the bottle. There’s not enough left in there to make this feel better.
I think we’re in the convent kitchen. Sor Cachete is telling Mili that Gamuza was really hurt and Mili says it was a bad day and she’ll look for him and make it all good. But the sor says no need, Gamuza is here! He comes in the sor leaves. Mili asks for his forgiveness and says something really bad happened, but she’s going to be better, she’s going to stay in the game. A tiny ray of hope for our little heroine. Gamuza gives her a hug and tells her he loves her. He asks if it’s true about Regina and Mili says yes, she’s in heaven with her mother. Mine’s there too, he says.
Mili says she heard he has something to tell her. He tells her that he found out he has a sister. Me too says Mili. Really? asks Gamuza, your sister is Gloria too? Mili is impactada.
Luci, chin on her vanity, hanging onto her bottle, looks like the wreck of the Hesperus. She is replaying in her mind the things that Alex shouted at her. She has another slug.
Mili is talking to Gloria’s mom who says that yes, Gloria has a brother. She’s glad because that means the family is growing. Mili suddenly looks sad. She says finding out that you have a brother should be a great thing, but it breaks her heart. Gloria’s mom asks if Mili thinks Gloria will take it hard. No, don’t pay attention to me, says Mili and asks how it all happened. Gloria’s mom says that when she came up pregnant, Romulo left her. Gamuza isn’t her child, but he is Romulo’s son.
The grocery guy and Gloria are walking hand in hand in the garden. He wants to meet her ma, but she is reluctant. He says he’ll tell a few jokes and her mother will like him – doesn’t she want him to meet her mother? Gloria says it’s just that she doesn’t know how to talk to her mother about such things. He says just talk to her like a friend.
Now it’s night and Mili is walking alone by the fountain. Braulio comes out of the house and says he was expecting her. He sits on the side of the fountain with her and says he has brought the photo of her mother. She asks why. He says remember how one side is torn? And remember the photo of Connie that she found in his office that was also torn on one side? Well, now the two can be united. He shows Mili the result. Braulio asks if she will tell Connie. She says never, she will live to get revenge, to make Connie pay for what he did to her mother.
You don’t need to, says Braulio. He looks up at the mansion – all this is now yours, he says with a sweep of his hand. (This is the same place where he said almost the same thing to the fake grandson.) I don’t care says Mili. Braulio says he too has lived with hate in his heart – for Connie and what he did to his sister, for all the pain over all the years. And for Regina having died without knowing the truth (Hold it – didn’t Braulio himself also withhold that truth on purpose because he was somewhat mad at Regina for having listened to her husband and not having insisted that Connie follow his heart?). Mili tells him that she told Regina. They are both weepy and lean together happily.
Luci looks worse and worse. She is still replaying scenes in her mind – the hospital waiting room when Mili told Alex she couldn’t ever marry him, the funeral when Nestor was giving Alex a hug and the padre asked how her conscience was doing. Her bottle is empty – she gets another from the bedside table. She is now remembering the padre asking if she doesn’t care about the happiness of her son. She says aloud I’ve never seen him so unhappy. She sees her reflection in her mirror. It’s your fault, she says. She backs up from the vanity and then throws the bottle at its big mirror, smashing it.
Braulio tells Mili that they need to be careful around the staff, and that she mustn’t call him uncle around them. She agrees. She asks him why he’s never married. He says he hasn’t had time, he’s always dedicated himself to his work. She says there’s always time for love. She gives the examples of the Gloria and the grocery boy, and Horacio and Socorro, all good, hard workers. Braulio says his situation is different. He says don’t ask and let’s go get some dinner in you and he’ll cook. They happily go into the house.
Alex shows up at Flor’s and says he just can’t be at home, can he stay with her? Of course, my love, she says, draping herself on him. She kisses him and suddenly it’s morning at Casa Belmonte and the staff are having breakfast. Mili comes in in a nice little dress, makeup on, hair up in a fashionable ponytail, and a smile on her face. No Carlitos outfit for her now, seems like. Braulio says she can eat with the family, but she says she likes to start the day with the people she loves most. Karla scoffs and says she can’t take it and leaves. They tell Mili never mind and ask about her studies – she’s missed a couple of days. She says she doesn’t feel comfortable at school. The girls say she can study days and then they can go out at night.
Braulio says no excuses, she is to return to school on Monday and nights are for studying and he’ll make sure of it. Lina says wow, who made you the dad? Mili and Braulio look a little uncomfortable.
Alex is at full-service Flo’s chowing down on a nice big breakfast. No wonder a guy would want to hang out there. Flor suggests they go to the lake where they met and throw pebbles in it, but Alex says there’s a meeting at work and he has to go home and change. She thanks him for coming back into her life. He is smiling but he says what he needs.. and Flor finishes for him what you need is time and I’ll give it to you. But she says she doesn’t want to get into a situation that isn’t clear. She fesses up that she adores him. She says she knows he doesn’t feel the same and that he’s in love with Mili but she wants to know what his intentions are with her. She says think it over and when you know the answer, tell me.
Mili says she likes helping in the kitchen. She tells Socorro and the gal pals that she wishes that Braulio wasn’t so alone. They think he’s not very handsome, but Mili says he’s okay. Soccorro tries to explain that he has different tastes. Look at how he does a facial mask at night, how concerned he is with his appearance. The sheltered girls aren’t getting her point. Finally Lina and Mili see where she is going, but Gloria has to be told that he is gay. Mili says they have to find him a boyfriend, then. Hip bumps all around.
Braulio comes in and says Gamuza is there and Mili says send him in. But Brauilio says her visitors now will be received in the sitting room, not in the kitchen.
Gamuza is sitting in a small couch in the foyer and Luci comes in and doesn’t see him. She is heading for some booze that is sitting out for guests and she is startled when she sees him. Alex comes in and says Gamuza is his friend. Luci takes a big slug, says she going to the office with him, and leaves. Gamuza tells Alex that he came to see Gloria to tell her that he is her brother. He doesn’t want Alex to tell, it’s a surprise. He says Mili just found out the same thing, that she has a brother. Of course Mili walks in just at that time. A brother? says Alex looking at her questioningly. She is doing some fast breathing, and freeze.
Avances: At the office, Luci is yelling at Mili that it’s her fault Alex hates her, that Mili told him he’s her brother. Bobby says que? and Mili looks like que? too. The next avances don’t have captions, but Alex is yelling at Luci looks like just before the first avance scene.

Fuego 5/22: Stop sneaking up on them like that or they'll have heart attacks before their mother does!
- We start with that great buildup of troops from the end of the last episode...
... Jimena staggering along under custody of her frosty sister Sarita [who's BTW gonna end up a spinster if she doesn't take off those glasses again!], it's a perp walk to Mommy -
... the Reyes brothers behind Eva, horrified eyes fixed upon the engineer who's been summoned by Gabriela (the one who designed the cabana but we never saw him again) -
... Mommy, clutching the envelope she got from the Doctor at the Asilo -
... and Sofia, determined to tell her Mom right this minute that she spurns precious yerno Furd [who never appears in this episode!! did he get a vacation?] in favor of the hairy baker who never wears a shirt...
As Gramps watches through his telescope, all converge, and just as the engineer says he's never seen these bricklayers before in his life, Mommy "faints."
Shirtless sweaty Juan picks her up and all troop into the house except for Oscar and Franco, frozen in a brief, pointless tableau staring blankly at the receding procession. - Cut to the crooked Doc at the Asilo, chuckling at what a wad of cash Gabriela gave him just to provide a false medical certificate...
... the very certificate Sofia reads with horror as Gabriela is laid on a couch. "Oh no, this cannot be, she has a heart lesion [this reminded me immediately of the "brain cloud" Tom Hanks was supposed to be dying of in 'Joe and the Volcano' --Ed.] and is in danger!" Gramps is chuckling, he doesn't buy it: "Nah, weeds never die." - Quintana goes to the market to gossip with her sister Hortensia, who fills her in on the Reyes' tragedy and is amused by Quintana referencing "mi don Juanito." They agree the widow is soulless. Quintana goes home and makes a little shrine for Libia at the bakery. When the boys arrive there are hugs all round and Juan is blank as he stands by the shrine. He kisses Libia's picture.
- The engineer congratulates the Reyes Bros. on the modifications they made to his plans - "You've greatly improved on my design! Good work! If you ever need a job, call me!" They are impactados in a good way. Heh.
- "Oh mother, why did you not tell us you were sick?" "I hide my troubles so as not to disturb you." "Please forgive my rebellion." "Do I have to die to get some obedience around here? I've been sick since your father betrayed me... [Gramps cannot stop grinning at this deluge of b-s] ... and you, Sofia! Oy, if I am not very careful I will die very soon! And who was it who hired those bricklayers?"
Eva says she did it but Gramps busts in and says no, he hired them. "No, me!" "No, me!" Gabriela: "Well get rid of them!" Gramps: "No, don't run 'em off, you'll lose a lot of money and the work will stop and then you'll be stuck with me, don't forget, that's going to be my little house."
Eva tells the Reyes boys about all this and how Gramps saved her butt with his false confession.
The Reyes go see Gabriela, who frostily snaps: "I've been informed you aren't the real workers. How much of the job is left?" They mutter about the roof and the hardware. "Well, finish it fast! Now get out of here! Eva, you go too!"
Gramps grins and asks to see the medical certificate but Gabriela grabs it very swiftly. "I just want to see if she needs an operation right away," he explains. Gab is indignant that he doubts her and cries, "My heart is not going to last much longer!"
There are more miscellaneous scenes of the girls fussing over their mother, who says yet again, "I hope you realize everything I do is for your own good." When the last one leaves she smiles very happily and asks herself, "Why didn't I think of this before?" - Gramps presses Eva: "I know the first time these boys came here, they were carrying guns. Who are they? Why are they here?" She doesn't tell. He goes to Gabriela's room, in his Sherlock Holmes outfit, and shuffles papers in her drawers, but is thwarted by a locked door.
- Father Bouffy visits the bakery to ask what's going down with the vengeance thing. Juan describes his dream of Libia appearing as an angel, giving him a flower, and his waking up with that very flower! And runs to get it and show it to Bouffy! Father Bouffy has been rolling his eyes a bit (I think) but he's not going to pass up whatever will keep Juan from hurting the Elizondo girls. He thanks God for sending Juan this flaky vision.
- After promising Gabriela tender devoted care yet again, Eva begs for info about her long missing daughter, and yet again Gabriela says nothin doin. "You want her to suffer? You want her to be ashamed knowing you are her mother? And how can you just rag on and on about your own little things when I am at death's door?"
Gab is having a little get-together next day to introduce Jimena and Sarita to their newly-selected future husbands, Octavio and Benito Uribe, just back from Europe, "They're good people, like us, of our social class. I'm sure there will soon be a double wedding." - I know Chris was disappointed on his night, so I hope he's enjoying Rosario's assets tonight. They are on display thrusting themselves way out of an odd jacket made from a shag rug.
Franco sneaks up from behind and surprises her! How not cute! Then he takes her away from the Bad Love Bar for a nice picnic. He sings a little mariachi song, she sings a little pop song, "You sing nice," "No, you sing nice," him: "I want us to leave together and go where nobody knows us, where we can love each other freely," she says she can't go, she won't tell him her secret, he'll just have to trust her.
Then they take off their clothes and go nekkid into the same body of water we have seen in many other novelas. And, whatever. - Back at the Bollweevil Bakery, Juan has lovey-dovey flashbacks and then kisses his bun. Sofia is having flashbacks too, but she doesn't have a bun. She puts her head down on a chessboard and doesn't knock over any of the pieces.
- Jimena is loitering outside in the dark; Oscar sneaks up behind and surprises her. [I tell you, the Reyes think this is cute, they all do it, but myself, I hate it! A friend did this to me today and I jumped a yard in the air and shrieked as loud as an air raid siren! This will really give a person an infarto!!!] Jimena's moping because her unwanted suitor arrives tomorrow. Oscar says, "No, marry me!"
- Oscar and Juan are waiting at the Bad Love Bar when Franco and Rosario return. The boys have tequila except Juan has milk for his ulcer. (Heh.) They toast and remind each other it's all for one and one for all. Franco says he's not a kid. Oscar says he proposed to Jimena.
- Gabriela to Father Bouffy: "Oy, I don't know how much time I have left on this earth." The suitors arrive, at least they have shaved. They are wearing suits and ties. The Reyes commence hitting their thumbs with hammers etc as they watch. Gramps is observing the new arrivals through his telescope and is not impressed. "My daughter thinks the girls will marry these mamarrachos (defective, ridiculous, extravagant, not worthy of respect)??" Later he calls them mequetrefes (good-for-nothings).
Peering around a corner, Sarita ventures that the Uribe Bros. are not bad looking, maybe even sexy, but Jimena says they don't compare to Oscar with his sweaty undershirt and perennial stubble. [OK I added that part.]
Gabriela adulates the Uribes, they're just as wonderful as Furd! One of them says this pueblo seems awfully small after NYC and Europe, but they're back because their uncle Ricardo asked them to come, and they're considering starting a business. "Are you still bachelors?" "Yes! We don't want to give up our freedom! We're too young for responsibilities! We want to travel! Maybe live in Europe, where people are more liberal!" Franco hits his thumb again. - Juan sneaks up behind Sofia as she languishes languidly against a wall. She does not shriek! He gives her a flower and asks why she's sad. "Not just because of mother, but because she's marrying off my sisters without love, the way she did me." Again with the "I have never given myself to Furd" speech. Again with the no shirt on. They kiss and kiss. She pulls away to rejoin the party and, watching her leave, he slumps, looking like he might have an infarto himself. Heh.
- Gramps observes his daughter, "Sister Storm," through the telescope as she gushes over the Uribe boys. He tells Eva he knows everything that goes on, and if he doesn't, he investigates. "Of course I know Sarita and Jimena love those bricklayers, everybody knows except my daughter." Eva thoughtbubbles, "It's good he doesn't know about Juan and Sofia."
He approves of the lads, they have hearts of gold, and they're honest, they refused his doubloons when he offered them.
Eva says Gab will never accept the lads, Gramps says "We need to develop a strategy." He reveals his cynical conviction that Gab is faking her illness, Eva is all ingenuous, no she couldn't, Gramps: "My daughter is capable of this and much more."
Gramps asks Eva to find him a discreet locksmith so he can see what Gabriela is hiding. Eva is all for that - maybe there's information about her mysterious missing daughter in that cabinet! - Sarita and Jimena meet the Uribes, who give them some modest little compliments, but then one of them (they have that Tweedle-dum and Tweedle-dee quality, I bet we never figure out which is which) complains to Jimena that her clothes are unfashionable! The Padre chides him so he takes another tack: "But we love girls with character!"
Oscar is ready to go break their fingers.
Monday: Eva watches muy impactada as Rosario tearfully wails that she never knew her mother, she was given up as a baby. Gee, does anything occur to us?
Also, the Uribe brothers more or less call the Reyes brothers nacos and here's an interesting definition of naco I just found:
The term may be a contraction of "Totanoca" although in reality it refers to "nacohatl" which means, "from around here" ... in modern times, the term is a bit ambiguous and confusing - even though it has been used disparagingly to mean indigenous people, most recently "nacos" are people who are short of culture, who do not have the urbanity of the upper classes. In general Mexican society uses this term indiscriminately in relation to economic status, social position, or even to signal a person who is different from others or has an unusual point of view.
UPDATE: I'm pulling Beckster's definition, found in the Urban Dictionary, up here into the post for your enjoyment:
Maybe from "Totonaca," a Mexican tribe of the Pre-Columbian era. Classless, pretentious, obtrusive, the Mexican version of white trash. Mostly blue-collar undereducated people, but can be applied even to a wealthier crowd (nouveaux riches, snob). They’re characterized for having no respect for others. Their only source of information is television. Males usually are truly soccer fans and females are telenovelas (soaps) fans. Most nacos like to name their sons with anglo-saxon names. It may be used as an adjective for both persons and objects.
"El Kevin cree que poniendole neon a su coche va a ser mas rapido, se ve bien naco."
"Kevin thinks that neon lights on his car will make it faster, it looks so naco."
Hmm, I guess our being telenovela fans makes us nacas! Nacas of the world, unite!

Juan Thurs. 5-22-'08 Same Old Same Old
Brief recap of last night's ending. "Sandro" comes into Paula's office, ignores Marely, leers at Paula.
Juan, Juanito and Hillary are at Doña Pepita's and she's flustered and excited by Hillary's presence. Juanito leaves to get Flor to take her home and Hillary pops the big question: "Juan, was there something between you and Paula? Or more to the point, is there still something?"
Juan gets up, turns his back, thought bubbles that he can't lie to her, she's been so great, and turns and tells her that Paula was the love of his life. A thorn he couldn't pluck from his heart. But before Hillary loses heart herself, he adds that he needs to give up pursuing a hopeless dream. HE WANTS TO LOVE AGAIN.
And who else wants to love again?...none other than our new and improved Julia who pursues Kike out of Ferrell to sympathize. Tells him what a great guy he is, responsible, good-looking. You have my number. she adds. Call me...if...they both get flustered, looking like two 7th graders dealing with their first crush. Kinda cute except you know it's going nowhere. Another filler.
"Sandro" meanwhile is putting the moves on Paula. First, intellectually, by presenting some financial documentation with elegant confidence, and then touching her hair and her shoulder while classic Cesar Luis seduction music plays in the background. Unlike the real Sandro, this "Sandro" has very smooth moves (remind you of someone?)
A little comic relief as Pastor and the new improved Herbierto emerge from the elevator to a crazy dance tune replete with wolf whistles. Ivonne does her bit by noting how good Herbierto looks and he's ready to "dar el estocada final" (give the final thrust, as in bull killing) but Pastor holds him back. You've got to play hard to get, he counsels.
"Sandro" meanwhile is ramping up the intensity. He tells Paula he's recovering faith in himself, thanks to her. He's asking for a chance to get to know her better, even though he "knows" he's risking being fired for expressing a personal interest in his boss. But he's just asking for a chance, for some time, yada yada yada and he leaves.
When Marely comes in, Paula is so pensive and bemused, Marely has to wave a hand in front of her face to get her attention. Are you that transfixed by the presentation? Marely asks. No...the presenter, responds Paula, seemingly unaware of Marely's interest in Sandro.
I'm going to give him a chance, Paula continues. I've got to give up Juan. He's not the man for me. "Sandro" is honest, he's interested in me.... Nothing Marely can say changes her mind. (well, what else is new?)
Meanwhile, Hillary is still bedazzled by Juan. Impressed that he stayed true to a hopeless love for so long (Habla muy bien de ti...speaks very well of you). There aren't many beings like you, she adds, and I'm glad to know you want to love again. She moves in for a kiss but just then Flor and Juanito show up and Juanito is not happy at all!
And neither is Marely. She tries to convince Paula that maybe she misinterpreted "Sandro's" interest, or is confused by his resemblance to Cesar Luis, but Paula insists that's not it. Yes, he's like Cesar Luis but without his defects. Marely warns her she's about to make a horrible mistake and leaves the office devastated.
Ivonne asks her what's wrong and Marely explodes "I thought Sandro was honest but he's not!" You can see Ivonne putting two and two together and let's face it...of all the women in his life, she probably knows Cesar Luis the best. She's onto him.
Switch to Juan, Hillary, Flor and Juanito in the car with Juanito insulting it as being "small". They head back to the office because Juan forgot his keys.
Yadira is thinking about heading back to work also, but Angarita advises her to wait until Kike calms down. He reassures her that he has a lawyer to take her custody case and she kisses him good-bye, thanking him for supporting her just like a father.
The blows keep falling for Marely. When she sulkily answers "Sandro's" request to see Paula, he reams her out for "talking to her superiors that way".
And Juanito isn't being much kinder to Hillary. While they wait for Juan in the car, he talks about all the gals running after his dad, so many he can't count them! and then adds that his dad does have a girlfriend. Hillary looks impactada...and not in a good way.
Meanwhile, "Sandro" is working his charms on Paula, asking her to dinner, while Marely fumes outside, blaming herself for being an idiot. Juan breezes by, tells her he can't offer her a lift home because he's WITH HILLARY but then stops when he realizes "Sandro" is with Paula.
"Sandro" has Paula's hand in his and is reading her palm..."I see a woman who is intelligent (we'd dispute that wouldn't we?!), courageous, intense and very very passionate. There are two important love lines...but wait, there's a third line" he adds.
You're making me nervous, Paula replies. He leans in and whispers, "Not as much as I am". Juan's lurking in the door making a gorilla face. Not happy!
"Sandro" leaves, mission accomplished, looks around the room and says, What a pleasure to work in an office with such beautiful women! Marely and Ivonne look at each other and Marely adds that Sandro is worse than Juan and Cesar Luis put together. More pensive looks from Ivonne so we know she's hatching some kind of plan.
The atmosphere in the car is rather frosty and Juanito asks Hillary if she's mad. No, but she's disappointed. Juan lied to her. Now Juanito comes clean and says, actually his dad doesn't have a girlfriend but there IS someone who loves him and whom Juanito wants for his dad. Juan just hasn't caught on yet.
When Juan gets back to the car, he's obviously upset but denies it and invites Hillary to the house for dinner and to meet his "family".
On a happier note, Pastor is enjoying some exquisite moments with Herbierto...advising him to fill those wonderful new shirts with muscle, build some biceps, triceps, reduce the waistline, lift the butt. Herbierto protests, I've got great muscles and touch my tush, hard as a rock! Pastor takes a deliriously long time verifying this, but still advises that they find a gym nearby and go work out together. Hope springs eternal.
I'll compress the Ivonne, Fernando, "Sandro" scenes. She's suspicious. Tells Fernando she has to work late, she'll see him tomorrow. He's suspicious in turn and lurks around the corner behind a newspaper. She calls a taxi and has it waiting by the door. When "Sandro" leaves, she skitters after him down the stairs. Fernando follows.
There are evidently only two taxi drivers in Mexico City, we seen this one before. He drives Ivonne to where "Sandro" is parked. She has him wait (he's shivering with cold) while she punches a lot of buttons on other apartments trying to get into the building.
Meanwhile, Fernando has driven off, convinced she's about to betray him.
Angarita and Kike are having a confrontation back at the warehouse. Remolacho would love to be in on it but they send him off. Lots of fighting which could all be cleared up if Angarita would just tell Kike that he knows he's her real father but no, that would be too easy!
So we go round and round about how Yadira needs to get away from her family, sort things out and then maybe she'll come back to Kike. And he's at fault, because he threatened her first with trying to take away the baby. Enrique accuses him of being an "asalto cunas" (cradle robber) but Angarita assures him he's not interested in Yadira as a woman. Kike doesn't buy it.
The discussion heats up and Enrique says why don't you fire me! Well, I'd like to after this lack of respect you've shown but I'm not going to.
Nidia in the meantime has found out about Alirio and Gutis' schemes by picking up the phone in the middle of their call. She tells him no more contact because this is a "casa de-cen-te".
And who arrives at the casa de-cen-te but Hillary. Perafan falls all over himself fawning, and so does Nidia but with a lot more verve. Perafan wants to offer caviar (yuck! says Juanito) and champagne and Hillary makes it clear she's fine with tequila and enchiladas. Nidia is delighted that Hillary is "one of us" and takes advantage by promoting Ana's gallery showing coming up.
Poor bedraggled Marely arrives, sees Hillary and says "This is all I need!" Nidia can't believe Marely is being so rude but Hillary smooths it over and Juan is impressed with how well she handled the situation.
Marely won't stay for dinner, rushes upstairs, cries her heart out and Juanito comes in to console her. Is it Hillary? he asks. In part, she answers, but I'm mad at myself too. I'm too trusting. I'm not cut out for love.
But I love you! protests Juanito. I know, Juanito but I'm thinking of a different kind of love...someone to care about me, to hold me, to kiss me...And to look at you the way my dad looks at Paula? adds Juanito. Yes, sighs Marely.
In the meantime, Cesar Luis and Sandro are fighting about our " lovely little rose garden", Marely. Sandro wants to call off the arrangement. When he agreed to it, he didn't know Marely. Now that he does, the game has changed.
Not fo Cesar.
Bring on "ultimas capitulos" por favor!!!!
vocabulary:
qué finura! that's so nice!
estoy jurada (Nidia).... I took the pledge...I'm "on the wagon"
lo unico que me faltaba the last thing I needed
viejo encandilador old smoothie (as in dirty old man)
un asalto cunas cradle robber
dar el escopeta final give the final thrust (as in killing a bull)
