La Fea Más Bella #170 12/19/06 Bellezas, Booze, and Bellyaching

Caro, Lety and Alex eat dinner with the bellezas (beauties). Caro tells Lety that the chef is very special, and they’ll get to work closely with him because they are in charge of the bellezas' diet. Alex excuses himself to go talk with the cameramen. Seeing the miserable look on Lety’s face, Caro guesses that Lety is thinking about Fern.

At the office, Luigi is talking to Ricky Armstrong on the phone. Irmita is nearby, hoping that her mumbling, bumbling ex-husband Rafael has left her house. Luigi hangs up and complains that since all the executives are missing, he has to take care of all the business around here. Turns out Ricky wants another commercial; this time for a new lemon soda. But he says now it’s time to go home. Irma wants to keep working. Luigi sees through her and demands to know why she doesn’t want to leave.

Fernando is in a trendy looking bar, of which 90% is filled by bellezas in skimpy night-clubbing outfits. Of course, Fern is not interested in the bellezas. He’s consumed by his achy-breaky-heartbreak. He says aloud that he is living a nightmare. Music that sounds like a videogame soundtrack blares. Just then Omar walks in. He flirts with the bellezas as he makes his way to Fern. “Hello, my ex-president!” Fern tells him to shut up, he’s not in the mood for Omar’s teasing. Omar asks about Lety. Fern says he didn’t find her because she’s gone away.

The cuartel remarks that the office seems so empty without Lety. Irma and Luigi walk into the lobby, still quibbling about why Irma doesn’t want to leave. Luigi is suspicious.

Fern orders another drink. He says that Lety left specific instructions for her family to not say where she went. Omar exclaims that she “escaped.” Fern shoots back that she did not “escape,” she “disappeared.” Omar is suspicious of her intentions. Fern says that if Omar is insinuating that Lety left because she wants to take over the company, then he’s wrong, because she left paperwork surrendering both Conceptos and Filmo Imagen back to them. Omar is still suspicious. Behind Fern, two bellezas giggle (trying to get their attention, I think). Fern turns around and gives them an annoyed what-the-hell-is-your-problem look before turning back to his drink.

Lety is still looking unbearably unhappy. She asks Caro if she (Lety) can go. She’s having a very difficult time expressing herself, and finally says she wants to be alone to think. Caro agrees and gets up, gives the bellezas some instructions for tomorrow morning, tells them to go straight to bed, and forbids them from having dessert... The bellezas whine a bit. Lety whines a lot. She mumbles to herself, “this is not my world.”

Fern tells Omar what we’ve all known all along: It’s all Omar’s fault! Omar is astounded “Who, me?” [Yes you, that’s why you are Omar the Imbecile!] Fern points out that it was Omar who came up with the strategy of seducing Lety to prevent Tomas from stealing the company. Furthermore, it was Omar who wrote that cursedLetter. Omar points out what we’ve also known all along, but which we’ve [well, at least I have] been in denial about: Fern is the master of his own will, he made his own decisions, so it’s all his fault [Damn you, Omar! You pick now to start making sense?].

Alicia and Marcia arrive Marcia’s apartment, and Alicia immediately asks for a drink. Marcia is not in the mood to play the gracious hostess, so Alicia goes to serve herself. She says she’s steaming mad (presumably about Tomas and her car) and that after the day she’s had, she really needs a drink to be able to sleep. Marcia says that if Alicia needs a drink, then she (Marcia) needs a bottle.

Fern appraises his woman troubles. Lety has left and Marcia detests him. He thinks that it wouldn’t surprise him if Lety did want to keep the company; as a matter of fact, she should get to keep it, after what they’ve put her through. They go back and forth about who’s fault it is. Omar reiterates that Fern accepted this perverted game because he is as paranoid, if not more so, than Omar. What's more, Fern is an intelligent person and is solely responsible for his choices.

Marcia says she can just imagine what people will say. Alicia unhelpfully agrees. She gives thanks that she had not bough a wedding gift yet (Aha! She said earlier that she had already made payments on the gift.) She assumes that the wedding is postponed, not cancelled, and asks when the new date is. Marcia assures Alicia that the cancellation is final.

A poppy piano number plays at the club, and Omar tells Fern he’s drinking too much and acting weird. Omar suggests that it’s time to go home. Fern disagrees, he’s staying put. Omar invites Fern to go back to Omar’s place, but Fern says he’s going back to the office. Omar thinks that’s weird but Fern gets feisty, so Omar simply tells Fern to remember that they are friends, no matter what. He give Fern a manly pat on the back and leaves.

Alicia tells Marcia that she can’t let Fern go, because guys like him aren’t waiting around every corner. He’s handsome, he’s from a good family, and her has *mucho dinero*; not like some people who are vividores [interesting word, my dictionary says it means resourceful/enterprising but also sponger/parasite], of which she has been a victim. She advises Marcia to wait a few days, then forgive Fern and set a new date. Marcia looks distraught.

Good thing Omar left, because it’s Cherry Garcia and Kleenex time. A band, Angels [which the singer pronounces in English; I wonder if they did that as a nod to Saimon Joseph, who insists on pronouncing his name in English] comes onstage at the club and plays one of the theme songs, Dueña De Mi Vida [Owner Of My Life… I thought someone had translated it but I can’t seem to find it…. help!] In any case, the song is very poignant and Fern, looking a little tipsy, thought-bubbles a collage of good times and bad times with Lety, and tears fall from his luscious eyelashes.

Marcia tells Alicia that today’s events at the meeting were like a miracle for Fern. He avoided the drama of having to cancel the wedding himself. In that case, Alicia suggests plan B: if he does not want to get back together with her, she should beg and plead, otherwise, in a very short time Marcia will begin to look like an old maid. Marcia says she will never beg him to marry her, and she will not make him marry her against his will.

Luigi takes Irmita home. She doesn’t want to let him in but he insists on finding out what’s bugging her. She confesses that there is a ghost in her house. Luigi gets scared and wants to take her home to his place instead. He asks for something to calm his nerves. She goes to the darkened kitchen to get it, but upon walking in finds Rafael sprawled on the kitchen floor. She cries for Luigi, which spooks him even more. Luigi rushes in and turns on the light, “So this is your ghost?”

Fern is now back at the office [Celso is still standing guard outside; poor guy never gets to go home!]. Fern looks at Lety on his Mac screen. He touches her image, “Lety, I miss you. I need you so much, Lety.”

Alicia asks if Fern is with his other woman right now. Marcia doubts it. Alicia wants to know who it is. Marcia has trouble getting the words out, “The miserable woman is Leticia Padilla Solis.” Alicia is impactada. She can’t believe it. Marcia assures her it’s true. Alicia says she feels nauseous. She asks if this means that Fern kissed Lety. Marcia says if only that were all.

Caro and Lety return to their cabanas. Lety lights her candle and remembers Caro’s advise that fire purifies the soul.

Another candle glows in a another dark room and a phone rings. The answering machine greeting says that Aldo Gomenzain is unavailable. The fisherman walks in but doesn’t answer the phone. The caller leaves a message saying that they are waiting for Aldo at the bar. It’s been two years since he honored them with his presence.

Alicia still can’t believe it Lety is Fern's othe woman. To convince her, Marcia shows Alicia The Letter.

Irma and Luigi have carried Rafael to the couch. Irmita can’t wake him up. Luigi doesn’t know what to do. Rafael mumbles something about medicine. They look for his meds. Luigi finds them in Ralfy’s pocket, just as Irma finds a letter in his bag. It’s a letter with lab results stating that the patient has terminal kidney failure. She is impactada.

Alicia reads The Letter and says that the guys are pigs. Then she rethinks that maybe Lety wrote The Letter herself to make Marcia’s life miserable. Then Alicia realizes that Fern must have slept with Lety and at the same time with Marcia. Marcia says that it’s been a while since she she’s gotten any boinking action from Fern, and she’s sure that’s when he must have started boinking Lety instead.

Fern sighs, “Where are you, my Lety?”

Alicia wonders if Fern stopped bothering with Marcia in bed because he fell in love with Lety. Marcia agrees. She says that when she realized Fern had another woman, she got the distinct impression that the other woman was very important to Fern, not someone who he would have to kiss with horror (as the letter says). Nevertheless, Alicia thinks that Marcia must win Fern back. Marcia says she wants to be alone.

Lety leaves her cabana and wanders the resort. There are many walkways and lit waterfalls. In spite of everything, she still loves Fern. But she is determined to forget him, because she can’t allow him to keep hurting her. She will get him out of her heart and mind. But it’s hard because everything reminds her of him.

Marcia, alone in her apartment, looks at a photo album and also curses Fernando. She thought-bubbles that she gave him all her love and her whole life. She wishes this were all a dream and that everything would go back to the way it was before.

Next to a waterfall, Lety remembers a conversation with Fern at their Cuernavaca getaway. Lety - Our love is so pure, it illuminates. Fern – See? That’s exactly why I love you more than ever; because you’re willing to sacrifice physical passion in favor of spiritual happiness. Lety - My love for you is eternal. It’s bigger than me. Fern – Yes, our love is very big, and with you I feel loved in a special and sincere way. Lety snaps out of the memory. She cries that it was all a lie! A damned lie!

Fern continues to cry and tells Lety’s picture that he misses her.

Marcia slams shut the photo album. She recalls the consueling session with Mama Tere. She thinks about Alicia’s advice. She says she needs to get Fern back, and she tearlfully decides that she will forgive him.

Fern pulls into a parking spot and over his shoulder we see Jorge Flores, a.k.a. Psychic Guy, in the car next to him [that was kind of creepy]. He tells Fern that there is a woman who is willing to forgive him. Fern exclaims “Lety?!” PG says it’s someone who he has greatly hurt. Fern says that it’s got to be his Lety. He’s suddenly happy and excited. He climbs over to the passenger side to get closer to PG. PG asks him if he lost everything. Fern says he didn’t lose it, he ruined it all: his company, his parents’ confidence, and he ruined Lety. He made her do illegal things and now he doesn’t even know where she is. He takes full blame. PG says sometimes one needs to reach the bottom before starting to set things straight. Fern begs PG to help him find Lety so he can explain everything to her. PG says in order to find her, he must first find himself, even though that’s the most complicated and painful mission. With that, PG takes off. Fern recites the mission back to himself. He sounds confused.

Lety’s whining session continues. She wants to go home. It’s too lonely here. She wants to go back to her little world, where life is still painful but at least she can be with her parents.

Tomas arrives at Lety’s house. The neighborhood bullies are sitting on Robopop’s car. Tomas asks them to get off the car. They tease him about his missing car. Tomas knocks on the door. Robopo opens the door and scares the bullies away. He tells Tomas that it serves him right for pretending to have more than he does.

Lety calls and feigns happiness with Robopop, but when they hand the phone to Mom, Lety begins to cry and tells Mom she is homesick and depressed and is coming home first thing tomorrow.

Next:
Has Caro has finally had it up to here with Lety's whining?
Lety needs a lifeguard, and all she got was a lousy fisherman in daisy dukes.
Fern feels that Lety is in trouble. Is the PG rubbing off on him?

Navidad Sin Fin - Dec. 19, 2006

EPISODE 7 (transition to part 2):
(NOTE: if Yolanda looks familiar, the actress now plays "Marcia" in La Fea Mas Bella.)

Dona Reina answers the phone - someone is pestering her for information about Angelita and Rodito - she says they aren't giving interviews and hangs up. Veronica, now very pregnant, is very happy with Pedro and the baby they are expecting. Pedro returns home and shares the good news - at the marketplace, he got a tip about a business - and he is now the proud owner of his own truck delivery company. Pedro looks at the drawing and thanks his little angels for his blessings.

Pancho is out driving the truck - he stops at a road block - the officer pulls a gun and forces Pancho out of the truck.

Reina tells Pedro about the annoying phone caller - Pedro thinks it is another reporter, but she says that it is some rich, important man who wants information.

Pancho offers assistance to Don Alberto, who is choking in the backseat.

Later, Pancho returns to the apartment and tells Pedro of the truck hijacking. Pancho feels guilty - Pedro says all will be fine, he did what he should do - what is important is that they are alive and together.

Angelita and Rodito are now grandfather and granddaughter - they are on the sidewalk by the church square - they sit down on a nearby park bench.

Pancho, Pedro, Reina and Veronica sit down at the table and talk. Alberto rolls his wheelchair up to the table - Pancho introduces Alberto to the family. Pedro and Reina are curious to why he is there/his intentions with Angelita and Rodito. Alberto tells his story of his research. Pedro interrupts to say that Angelita and Rodito were there - Alberto is surprised, falls from his wheelchair to the floor. Pedro helps his back in his chair. Reina mentions a little more of Angelita and Rodito. Alberto is very interested in everything they have to say about the two. Pedro is skeptical and thinks Alberto is acting.

Padre Miguel meets Angelita and Rodo on the square, and welcomes them to the church.

Alberto talks about Gabriel, the magical teddy bear. Veronica mentions the drawing that Pancho and Reina made of the two children. Pancho takes it off the shelf and shows it to Alberto. Pedro is anxious to leave for the police station to report the missing truck. Pancho talks Pedro into letting Alberto stay there for awhile. Alberto wants to stay and discuss the angelitos more. Pancho and Pedro leave, as Reina and Veronica sit and talk with Alberto at the table.

Man on cell phone with someone important. He will wait for further instructions.

Alberto, Reina and Veronica discuss their meeting with Angelita and Rodito. He wants to know about Christmas Eve and Veronica tells him about the miracle that brought Manuelito back from the dead. Both Reina and Veronica say that Angelita went to each one to say good-bye, all in a second. He wants to know more and more details. Veronica describes Angelita's eyes as Angelita said good-bye to her. Then Reina tells of her message from Angelita. Pedro and Pancho return and Pedro wonders what they are discussing. Alberto is more and more curious about Angelita and Rodito, and wants to find them. Pancho says they can't be found; they're long gone. Pedro grows more and more skeptical of Alberto's desire to locate Angelita and Rodito. Alberto won't leave - he's desperate and pleads that he will do whatever to find them (including offering money to purchase a new truck).

Angelita and Rodo stand up from the bench. They walk out into the street. Rodo lays down; Angelita acts like she's crying as a car approaches and stops. Matilde and her driver climb out and offer help to Angelita and Rodo. Angelita and Rodo introduce themselves and climb into Matilde's car with her.

As the discussion continues with Alberto, Pedro grows even more skeptical of Alberto's intentions. They mentions the evil Darro and despicable Jose Luis. Alberto says that all ended happily for them, and asks why they won't help him to find the children and have some happiness also? Pedro reluctantly concedes and reveals some of what Angelita told him in her good-bye message. Pedro ends his story by hugging Veronica and Reina and saying, "even when a person thinks they don't have anyone, they always have those in the kingdom in the sky."

Alberto thanks Pedro and his family for the information they have given him. Pedro doesn't think Alberto understands. Alberto is adamant for assistance in his search. Pedro refuses to help in anyway, it was Angelita's wish. Pancho and Reina explain further why they can't help.

In the kitchen of Matilde's house, Nati is serving Rodo some noodle soup. Rodo is eagerly slurping it up - Angelita tries to use a napkin to wipe up some of the spillage and mess. Nati ties a napkin around Rodo's neck like a bib as she talks with Angelita about the family. At the mention of the mother, Rodo says that he also has a mother who works hard - and he works hard also. The three share a laugh. Then Yolanda enters and becomes very offended and disgusted by the sight of the guests; she leaves immediately.

Pedro and family have a conference whether they should help and trust Alberto. Alberto interrupts. Pedro and Veronica offer apologies for being skeptical and misinterpreting Alberto's intentions. Alberto stands up and offers his own apology for setting the trap of the road block in order to meet them and get information on Angelita and Rodito. Pedro, more skeptical than ever, wonders why such an elaborate scheme to search for Angelita and Rodito. Alberto explains - Pedro makes two conditions on giving assistance: 1. no money will exchange hands, 2. no press, everything remains in secret (I think that was the second condition). Alberto agrees to both. Pedro says he won't leave to help but Pancho will do it. Pancho is shocked and Reina gives him a good luck box on a chain and they talk him into it. Alberto, happy, announces that they will leave right away. Pancho smiles in agreement.

Father and Mother of Yolanda are in the living room talking about Matilde. Yolanda walks through - Father stops her - she says she is bored and is going to leave the house for awhile - Father annoys her into visiting Tia Matilde in her room first. Yolanda reluctantly agrees and leaves the room.

Yolanda visits with Tia Matilde. Matilde is looking at a photo of Alfonso, who died. Matilde is in mourning and Yolanda milks it even more, makes Matilde feels very depressed so she cries on Yolanda's shoulder. Nati enters to ask Matilde about her guests. Yolanda says they can leave the house, there are no rooms for them to stay in.

Out in the front hall, Angelita and Rodo talk about their dear friend Pedro and Veronica. Nati approaches and tells Angelita and Rodo the message from Yolanda that Matilde isn't feeling well, so they should go to find another place to stay. Nati mentions Padre Miguel may be able to help them. Angelita wonders about Yolanda, Matilde and the family - Nati tells her some of what she knows and then helps them leave the house.

Alberto and his lawyer finish the written agreement with conditions for Pedro and Pancho's assistance in the search. The lawyer leaves the apartment. They show the drawing of Angelita and Rodito and Gabriel, and then look at the map of Pueblo Grande.

Angelita and Rodo are seated outside on the bench. Nearby the man pulls up in his car. A boy runs up and asks to wash his car - he refuses and walks inside a building. Angelita walks over to the boy and shows him a magic trick (she draws an angel on the side of the car). The boy watches the angel drawing. Later, the man talks on his cell phone as he returns to the car - all cleaned and polished. The boy stands with his hand out, waiting. The man ends his call and is amazed by the clean car. He pays the boy and then climbs in and leaves.

Pedro returns to the apartment, smiling. The secret is safe, he tells Reina and Veronica. He and Pancho have just sent Don Alberto on a "wild goose chase" looking for the children Angelita and Rodito. They laugh. Pedro hugs Reina and Veronica, and says that they are very fortunate and rich, not in money and power but in what matters most - love and family. :)

The man stops in front of Abuelo Rodo and Nieta Angelita and asks if they have seen two little children with a teddy bear anywhere around there. They say no. He drives off. Angelita and Rodo laugh.

HERIDAS DE AMOR - Monday, 12/18/06

Nuria from the hallway listens to the two Sisters of Satan discuss their worry at being found out to be excommunicated nuns. She realizes then that these women are accomplices of Bertha’s.

Juan wakes up that next morning to find Renata has driven off and left him at the resort. (Guess he’ll have to take the bus or hitch a ride.)

Roman pays a visit to Amparo and she delights in showing him how many orders she has gotten from area bakeries and restaurants for her confections. While they talk in the kitchen, he admits to her that he is finishing a pending case connected to Fernanda.

Pamela offers to lend Miranda money to keep the business and the family afloat. Miranda thanks her for her friendship and tells her how worried she is about her sister and finding a market for the chocolate she plans to export.

Some parish women tell Santiago about a school and infirmary that is connected that is in the area. Certain parents have their children there and they had noticed how strange the nuns there seemed. They didn’t wear the normal habits of the Church and although they always smiled to your face, once the doors were closed you could hear them yelling worse than jail wardens. Santiago tells them he will have the police investigate. Once they leave, he says it must be the one where Bertha sent Nuria, so he wants to see it for himself.

Miranda and Florencia have a serious discussion. Florencia asks Miranda to forgive her for taking Fabricio away from her. She tells her that because she took Bertha’s advice she had purposely set out to become happy by way of Miranda’s misery. Dying like this, she thinks, is her punishment. Florencia also asks her to take care of her husband and son and to make sure he knows how much she loved him. She also asks Miranda not to let Fabricio do anything foolish.

Roman suggests to Amparo that she and Francisco think about buying their own little house now that they seem to be financially back on their feet. In particular, it would be a good idea because, in case they all didn’t know it, Cesar de Beltran owns the property all around there, including her building. He says that there are some new places going up nearby and they might even end up neighbors. Roman kisses her on the cheek and leaves then. Amparo thinks seriously about what he’s just said.

Padre Santiago surprises the “mother superior” of Nuria’s former school. He tells her that he’s heard some talk of various schools that claim to be religious schools sponsored by The Church and really are not at all. These parents don’t know the half of it and never bother to investigate these places. These places dirty the good name of The Church and he wants to assure his parishoners that this is not one of these. Therefore, he wants all the information about the operation given to him as he assures her that the police now know of her school and are investigating it. For once, she is impactada and starts to sweat and wring her hands a bit.

Florencia tells Miranda that she is no longer afraid of Death. It just is. Just then, Bertha arrives and asks Miranda to speak to Florencia alone. Miranda warns her that if she does anything to cause Florencia’s death she will see to it that she is put in jail herself. Bertha says she is not going to harm Florencia so she can leave. (NO! Miranda don’t do it!)

Miranda leaves and Florencia sneers at the site of Bertha at her bedside. She tells her aunt, “If I could take you with me I would do it without a second thought.” Bertha’s evil and smiling response is, “Unfortunately, the only one dying here is you, and I am more alive than ever!” Florencia starts to breathe faster as she gets more upset. Bertha begins to press her advantage here and drives the knife in even farther. “Don’t agitate yourself, my dear, you are speeding up your death and I have so much to confess to you!” (I don’t think I have ever seen a character as seriously vile and slippery as that of Bertha, nor played to such perfection.)

Outside her room, Fabricio is pacing and he tries to enter. Fernanda stops him and Alejandro tells him its best to leave them alone since that’s what his sister wanted. Miranda assures him that Bertha has been warned against harming her because she’s told her she’ll put her in jail. (Nice try, but a waste of breath at this point.) He then turns to her and starts to sympathetically caress her cheek. Miranda turns away and suggests it is better if they don’t “start that up”. Alejandro asks her if she thinks she will ever pardon him. She tells him she already has, but adds, “It is not so easy a thing to forget.” He asks her if she means she wants to separate for the length of time it will take her to forget. (Duh!) She just stares at him. (Just what does this self-centered ex-playboy expect?)

Back inside Florencia’s bedroom, she tells her aunt how much she despises her because she is nothing but a monster. Bertha smiles back at her. “Ha! The kidnapping was nothing!” She begins to tell Florencia how she is now dying because she, Bertha, purposely didn’t give her the drugs for her heart condition all these years –“That is monstrous” Then she tells her how she convinced her to take Fabricio away from Miranda so her sister would suffer. “That is monstrous.” Then she tells her how she now will be the guardian to her son’s fortune as the first-born grandchild of Alfredo Luque after getting her to sign him away in front of a notary. “But I didn’t do that.” “--Yes you did and I have the documents.”

At the SOS school the “mother superior”/director is making up some lame-brain excuse not to give Santiago information. Right then Santiago hears the “nun” and Nuria screaming at each other. He demands she hand over Nuria and the baby immediately or he’ll call the police. Nuria is brought to him with the baby when the so-called mother superior refuses to let her go with him. The director says she has Bertha’s authorization to hold her. Santiago clears this up for her immediately. “Nuria is not a minor and she is not Bertha’s daughter. Bertha stole her and then gave her to you!” Santiago says she’s going to be accused of kidnapping as well as fraud. This scares her assistant “nun” into confessing their story. “I am not going to jail for this! This is your doing. Ines was excommunicated from the convent because she was seen as too violent and refused to follow God’s way. So Ines suggested we could start this school with the money she stole!” He calls Juan to have Francisco come to the school in the taxi. He then has him rush the baby and Nuria to Fernanda’s house in case they are not too late to have Florencia see him one last time.

Juan rushes out once he returns home and realizes that Florencia is on the verge of dying.

In the meantime, Sofia begs her mother to call Alejandro and invite him over for the day since it is Sunday. Liliana tries to explain he is married and cannot come there any more. Sofia asks for Liliana’s cell phone and runs out of her bedroom. Liliana prays for the intelligence to deal with her child and explain how things must be. Sofia finds her mother’s phone and somehow knows enough to find Alejandro’s number. (How is this possible? I thought the kid was 3 or 4, not 7 or 8!) Liliana the Lady Lawyer is a legal genius, but she apparently hasn’t a clue about what her daughter is doing or how to lock up the keypad on a cell when she is around a little child.

Luciano gets a phone call and tells Alejandro that the man buying his mansion is making an offer. Apparently, he knows Alejandro is in a financial bind and is trying to take advantage of his situation. Fabricio says he will sell the Manglars, but Alejandro refuses. “That is your son’s familial home and I don’t want you and him to be left in a state of poverty.” He tells Luciano to sell the mansion at any price. It doesn’t matter.

Florencia tells Bertha she forgives her. Bertha calls her an idiot and says she doesn’t need her forgiveness nor anybody else’s. Florencia says she will anyway because she now knows that Bertha has never and will not ever arouse the love of a man. “You know why? It is because you are filthy and disgusting and you have the smell of death in your blood! You are not a woman and like that you will never even be desired.” (Finally) Bertha becomes agitated herself and she begins to scream and shake Florencia who, in turn, has another heart attack.

They hear her screams from out in the hall and rush in. Fernanda pushes Bertha out of the way. Bertha tries to sneak out the door in the confusion but Miranda grabs her and tells her she is not going anywhere. Fernanda yells at Florencia trying to get her to open her eyes and respond. Nuria and Charo are walking down the hall in slow motion towards the bedroom with the baby. Fernanda tries to get Florencia’s attention by repeatedly yelling at her to hold on because the baby is coming. Miranda and everybody’s eyes are turned toward the tragedy taking place on the bed while Bertha looks on --and I am wondering along with her-- will Florencia regain consciousness long enough to see her baby? Or will she even have a chance to blurt out to everybody everything that Bertha has just admitted she’d done to her? Florencia does open her eyes just as Fabricio rushes in with little Enrique in his arms and screams at her to look at him. They all start yelling at her to “Look! Look! The baby is here!” She just stares into space and for a single second it appears she’s heard and then her head slides down the pillow, lifeless. With the exception of Bertha, everyone begins to scream and cry, realizing that Florencia is gone.

Fernanda walks over to Bertha and screams at her. “What did you say to her, Bertha!” Of course she answers back, “Nothing, absolutely nothing! We were saying our good-byes. Then you come in and tell her that about the baby. It was your lack of a brain that was the blame.” Fernanda slaps Bertha so hard she might have gone down for the count. “How dare you tell me this is my fault.”

Alejandro gets a call on his cell right in the middle of all this bedlam. It is Sofia and he asks her to get her mother. The little girl says she won’t because she doesn’t want her to cry again. Then she hangs up. (Miranda cannot be a happy camper here.) They all turn towards the bed and one by one, we see their individual grief. Bertha breathes a sigh of relief. She closes her eyes and literally orgasms as she experiences everyone else’s pain. She looks around, a smile of self-congratulation on her face, and exits the room unseen.

Mundo Monday - 12/18

While Becky is away, you'll have to make do with me! I haven't been following this show and I know I missed a couple things, so feel free to chime in...

  • Joselyn's deluded father, Federico, agrees for her sake (and Luisito's) to continue saying he killed Edgar - and also to hide the fact he's her father! She comes to the prison and strokes his cheek and says thanks. That's all he needs, he's happy to help.

Dolores, however, is not convinced. She shows up at Casa de Fieras and bitch-slaps Joselyn considerable, yelling, "YOU MURDERED MY BROTHER!"

Miriam waves some dagger-like implement and says, "If your brother was so great, he wouldn't have let you rot in prison." Dolores grabs the pointy thing and holds it to her own throat, hissing, "You don't know what I'm capable of! This is Karen's house, and I'm going to stick around, and I'm going to destroy you. I'll make you pay." She leaves.

  • Elsa is flouncing around looking for Coyote. At the boys' club, a guy in a red satin "Saturday Night Fever" shirt tries to convince her to take up pole-dancing - "I heard you're out of work. You can make a lot of money here - all you'll have to do is wear scanty clothing and smile a lot." First she says no - then, seeing her flame in the arms of other women, says she will.

Back at his apartment, Coyote arrives yelling, "Elsa! I need money!" He tosses her drawers, finds the money she stole from Candelaria (it was for MA from I can't remember whom), takes it and immediately spends it.

  • MA gets a letter from the nurse who cared for her mother Aurora at the clinic. The nurse says Aurora was murdered. MA is impactada and goes the next day to look for this nurse - unfortunately, the nurse (Cecilia) quit and left no forwarding address. Leo, that chump, searches unsuccessfully for Cecilia on the internet but promises he'll find her. Why, oh why, are people always making promises they can't be sure they can fulfill? (A pet peeve of mine. "Nothing will ever harm you." Hah.)

  • Dolores goes to sob with Regina. She didn't get to enjoy much of her brother's company before he got whacked. She tells Regina: Joselyn was the murderess. "He's dead, and she's free!"

Nicolas shows up, says it's time to dispose of Edgar's ashes, and appears to be yearning to make a move on Dolores. He holds back, which shows some sensitivity.

They go to the cemetery with the ashes. Dolores asks Edgar's pardon. (How right Edgar was to stay away so long - one day home and look what happens!) She swears to get Karen, his daughter, back for him.

Why anyone would want Karen, I dunno. Hearing of her father's death, Karen is unmoved. Rogelio calls her cold. (Pot calls kettle black.) She taunts him: Paulina will get half your inheritance. He swears it won't happen.

  • Miriam finally meets up with Demian. "Where were you, I'd been calling to tell you the news about Edgar!" "I had personal business." She mocks his tender anniversary activities and he accuses her of jealousy. She says he hasn't changed, he'll be back to his evil old ways at the first provocation.

Demian is not worried about Edgar's passing - as long as Federico sticks with his confession. Demian also offers to pacify Dolores, suggesting however: "It would help if you'd let her see her niece Karen."

  • Gabriel is with Luisito, who complains of being locked up. "We'll solve this, get your shoes." Gabe hauls him over his shoulder and takes him downstairs, Joselyn cannot stop their departure - why didn't he try this sooner! Jos wants to make a scene but Miriam holds her back, reminding her "honey" is the way to go. She thought-bubbles that as long as Gabe thinks Jos and MA are sisters, MA will not be a threat.

  • Elsa goes back to Coyote's apartment, finds her money gone, and finds a plastic bag with an awful mask in it.

  • Paulina and JC are nauseatingly happy. They get an ultrasound of the baby. Paulina is sad that her father is alone. Regina says she'll work on it and immediately goes to Gabe: "The love I once had for you has changed to a serene affection. We all just want you to be happy. You need to get boinked."

He fesses up to his love for MA, but he thinks it an impossible love since MA and Jos are sisters (his logic escapes me).

Regina then goes to MA and sees she is in love with Gabe but thinks it is impossible. Unhelpfully Regina says: "Just think it over."

  • Pedro has been offered a grant to go to art & design school but says he now doesn't want to go - "there are complications"

Diana says she's determined to divorce Rogelio. This may be the complication.

  • Gabe takes Luisito to Candelaria's place where the yikky little friends jump up and down with joy to see him. They take him outside to play.

Then Gabe takes Clemente to the doctor, who regrets to say: the blindness is irreversible. Clemente declines Gabe's offer of assistance. Gabe tells Clemente: you have money, you know. Clemente says he wants to divide it equally between his two daughters.

(Miriam confers with Federico in jail; it appears he has done some tricksy financing such that all Clemente's supposed money is now in Miriam's hands. The only thing which could derail this dastardly plan? Clemente's making a new will. Miriam scoffs: the pitiful old duffer's not up to it!)

  • Outside Candelaria's house, Sylvester is hanging with the young dudes when Elsa flounces by - she waves Coyote's mask and Lui freezes up - "that's the mask of the man who kidnapped me!"

Elsa very foolishly tells Coyote she knows he was the one who kidnapped Lui.

Sylvester arranges for Coyote to show up in the courtyard; under a table Lui listens to Coyote's voice and, yes, it's the voice of the man who kidnapped him!

Sylvester tells Gabe, Gabe runs to the apartment and chokes Coyote, Coyote says, "I was just following orders, it was your brother who ordered the snatch!" Gabe runs to Demian's house and punches him, saying, "You'll never change!"

  • MA goes to see Leo at the hospital and rehashes yet again that she'll never love him. So he, the dunce, later shows up with a rose and calls her "mi amor," which means she rehashes again that she'll never love him, this time adding: "I love another man and will love him forever."

La Fea Más Bella #169 12/18/06 A whole new Lety

Ladies and Gentlemen, I will be filling in for Miss Melinama hoy.
Lety’s in Acapulco starting a new life; Fernando’s in Mexico City with a whole bunch of his own problems. Thus begins our episode, “a continuación…”

The Ford Fusion and the shirtless man reappear! We pause for a moment to admire the car, the ocean and the man in way too short shorts! Lety thinks about how all she wants is to see the ocean because it is immense, like the pain she has in her soul. The camera returns to the sea. Apparently, our fisherman missed the fish the first time. He casts his net again.

Carolina answers her phone and tells her friend, Alex, that she’s in Acapulco and is heading to the hotel to register. They’ll talk later. Carolina tells Lety about all the work they have to do. They need to quickly change and go to the photo shoot. They also need to check over the event’s programming. Rather than listen to Caro, Lety prefers to stare at the ocean. Caro asks if Lety is listening. “Yes, Carolina,” she answers while looking wistfully at the ocean. Caro asks Lety if she likes the ocean. Lety smiles in return and replies that it makes her want to cry. It’s the first time she’s ever seen the ocean. Caro’s phone rings. It’s Marcia! Caro asks Marcia if she’s ready for the wedding. Marcia says that’s why she called. She cancelled the wedding. Caro loudly asks Marcia if she’s serious. Did she really cancel the wedding forty-eight hours before it’s supposed to happen? Lety overhears Caro and says to herself that it was her fault. Caro turns and glares at Lety. Marcia tells Caro that she doesn’t want to go into details, but she needed to let Caro know in case she bought a present so that she may return it. Caro tells Marcia that it’s okay, because she’s in Acapulco and wouldn’t have made it to the ceremony regardless. She was going to send the gift in the mail. Marcia tells Caro not to send the gift and to enjoy her time in Acapulco. Caro says thank you, and that she’s sorry for Marcia. Marcia says she apologizes more for the invitees than for herself. Caro doesn’t need to give her condolences. They’ll see each other later.

More Ford Fusion hotness as it pulls up to the hotel. Anyone else thinking a vacation in Acapulco sounds good right about now? Caro and Lety are greeted by two men at the hotel. Lety tries to explain that the red suitcase belongs to her and the other to Caro. Caro pulls Lety aside and asks why Lety thinks that the cancellation of the meeting was her fault. L - “Because it’s the truth.” From Lety’s answer Caro deducts that Marcia found out about Lety and Fernando. Lety confirms. Caro offers her condolences. Lety says that the disaster of Conceptos and the cancellation of the wedding were all her fault. Lety says this is why she needs to talk to Caro. Caro replies that, yes, this is very important but they need to talk later after they see Alex. Lety re-focuses on the suitcases, but Caro pulls her into the hotel toward reception and tells her to relax. Lety says that the hotel seems like a pyramid. Caro giggles in agreement. Caro introduces herself and Lety to the hostess. The woman welcomes them to the Freemont Hotel Acapulco Princess. While Caro checks in, Lety says that Caro needs to know something. She explains that her resignation from Conceptos was not a good one, she was essentially thrown out. Caro doesn’t know the details but she can imagine that if Marcia knew about Lety and Fernando that it could not have been good. Lety says it wasn’t just about Don Fernando. She did some things with her work. She did some improper things. Caro assures Lety that Caro believes that Lety did nothing improper. In fact, she’s sure of it. Lety tells Caro that for love, she did things she never should have done. Caro asks Lety if she took money. Lety shakes her head no. Lety says that Caro does not know the person that she brought to Acapulco. Lety can’t deal with the conversation and takes off for her suitcase. Caro pulls her back and explains that everything changes when one does something because of love. Caro reassures Lety that she knows very well who she brought with her. Lety says that she is not that same Lety. Caro says she already knew that from the day she found her crying in the president’s office. Lety worries that Caro will have problems because she brought Lety to Acapulco. Caro tells Lety not to worry about her (Caro); she’s not going to have problems because of Lety. Lety reminds Caro that she’s friends with the Villarroels and the Mendiola’s. Caro reassures Lety not to worry about that. Lety says that once Caro hears her story, she’ll put Lety on the first plane out of Acapulco. Caro doesn’t reply and hands Lety a pen to register for her room. Lety goes to the desk and checks herself into the hotel. The receptionist gives them their keys and welcomes them again. The bellhop follows them to their rooms, suitcases in hand. Lety can’t help herself and spins in the middle of the lobby one more time.

Caro asks Lety if she’s conscious that she did something bad. Lety says that yes, she’s aware. Lety tells Caro that her conscious is killing her. Caro reassures Lety that she admires and respects her. Caro believes that, in the bottom of Lety’s heart, she hasn’t really changed. Lety’s soul is intact, even though she’s going through a difficult time. Lety says she’s living in a hell. Caro doesn’t understand. They’re in a new environment; Lety can drink in the refreshing air. A waiter brings the two ladies a pina colada. Lety tries to give back her drink because alcohol always makes her stubborn and sentimental. Caro tells her to accept the drink. She says they should toast, because Lety is starting a new life. Fernando will remain behind her. Lety agrees she wants to forget everything. They toast to what has happened and to what will come, and that Lety returns to Mexico renewed and free of blame and pain.. In her mind, Lety tells Fernando good-bye. They stand and toast to a Lety who deserves more.

Success! We have fish and really, really short shorts. Pretty soon, Pamela Anderson should come bounding down the beach.

Caro brings Lety into her room. Lety can’t believe this is where she’ll be staying. It’s like a house! Caro has to reassure her that the whole thing will be hers. Lety immediately goes to the back to look at the ocean. Caro apologizes for not having time to admire the sea; they only have time to bath and get ready, but they have to work. Before Caro can leave, Lety adamantly thanks her. Caro doesn’t know what it means to her (Lety) that she (Caro) brought her here, so far from F…Mexico City. Caro leaves and Lety takes off for the ocean. She calls out to the ocean. She says to herself how ironic it is that Fernando lied many times about cancelling the wedding for her, and it really was cancelled because of her. She goes back to talking about the ocean. Lety screams about how pretty it is when she sees it in person. She thinks it’s too far away. She needs to get closer and touch it. Right now she’s only touching it with her eyes. First, she decides to put a plastic bag over her hand. Giggles, spins and laughs!

Just as I was about to go into Don Fernando withdrawal, the scene opens upon Conceptos. Alicia walks out of Marcia’s office. Her phone rings. She asks the cuartel who’s calling. Sara tells her to answer the phone and find out who it is. It’s a lawyer asking for Alicia. She says that she knows she was supposed to send the money for the car, but she couldn’t. She says it’s a good thing he called, because they can reach an agreement. Alicia cannot believe that the lawyer accuses her of calling him names and hanging up phone on him before this. She says they should forget this and that from now on their relationship will be very respectful. They need to come up with a new payment method. We don’t hear what the lawyer says, but Alicia begs him not to do this to her. Still no Fernandito. Ay… L

Lety runs across a bridge to get to the ocean. She talks to the ocean. How many times she’s dreamed of being close to the ocean! It’s like this is a fantasy. The water of the ocean is alive; she wants it to touch her so it can give her life. She stands in the ocean, a little unsure of herself.

Alex calls Caro. Caro confirms that she has all the details about the activities. Caro says she’ll arrive at the end of the photo session. She asks Alex if he likes the chef she sent him. He’s one of the most well know in the country. He will fascinate the competitors. He’s charming in all his ways.

Alicia cries on her phone. She asks the lawyer not to sell off her car. He doesn’t understand. This car is her only wealth. Alicia gets a dial tow. She cries out “Abogado, abagado!” and cries. It’s almost as convincing as Marlon Brando’s “Steeellla!!!” Lola comments that it’s like Alicia is suffering more than her(Lola). Sara figures out that they’ve finally permanently taken Alicia’s car. PM reminds them that the situation with Lety is much worse. Does anyone know anything about her? No one has, but they’re sure she’s submerged in desperation. Alicia cries in the background.

The shirtless man now sleeps in his boat while Lety passes him on the beach. Ooops, he’s not shirtless anymore. Lety thinks about the clairvoyant’s words about her true struggle beginning. Lety asks the ocean how she’s supposed to survive; she needs its help. She feels so empty. She doesn’t understand why she’s here; she’s lost everything and doesn’t know why she’s there in Acapulco! She wants to go home! She couldn’t take her parent’s stares anymore. What pain! What pain! Lety is convinced that she’s destined to suffer for the rest of her life. “I was deceived, lied to and manipulated… I gave all my love, all my loyalty to the person to whom I gave my heart without conditions.” Lety doesn’t know how to overcome it. The fisherman watches this speech and exclaims to himself about the suffering that woman is experiencing.

Back in Mexico City, Erasmo can’t believe that Lety hasn’t called. Did she take off in another plan and go to China? Julieta reminds Erasmo that Lety went to Germany and was fine, but she’s worried about Lety for another reason. The phone rings; it’s Lety. Lety tells her mother that she’s in Acapulco and she’s found a new friend. Julieta can’t believe that she made a friend so quickly. Lety asks her mom if she knows who is Lety’s new friend. It’s the ocean! Lety holds up the phone so that Erasmo and Julieta can hear the ocean. “How pretty!” Erasmo says, only after Julieta explains that all the noise is the ocean. Lety tells her mom that she’s surrounded by different beaches and the same ocean. Julieta asks if Lety has gone into the sea. Erasmo overhears this and forbids Lety to enter the ocean. Lety asks if anything happened back at home. Julieta tells Lety that Fernando came to look for her.

Finally, we get some Fernando. He pulls up to Lety’s house and remembers his conversation with Erasmo earlier. Fernando drives away, holding back some tears.

Lety asks her mom what Fernando said. Only that he needed to talk to you about something personal and that you should call him on his cell phone. Lety has her mom confirm that her parents did not say she was with Caro. Julieta confirms this. She says that Tomas was coarse with Fernando. She asks Lety what happened with Don Fernando. Lety says it was something very bad, but they will talk when she gets back to Mexico City. Lety asks for Tomas, but he’s not there. She says she’ll call for him later. They all say good-bye to each other. Julieta gives Erasmo a kiss at Lety’s request.

Lety runs back to her cabana in tears. Caro knocks on the door. Lety wipes her tears and answers. Caro asks if Lety is ready. Lety says she’s ready and asks if her outfit is okay. Caro says it’s really not an okay outfit, but does she have anything lighter. Lety says she has another outfit. She brings out a funeral outfit and says that it’s more appropriate for an event. Caro disposes of it quickly. Lety tells Caro that she had to make a long distance call. Caro says that it’s no problem, she can call her parents whenever. Caro asks how things went at her house. Lety tells her that Fernando went to look for her.

Julieta asks Tomas why Lety is mad at Fernando. Tomas says he’s too discreet to gossip. He changes the subject and asks if anyone called for him. Julieta asks if he’s talking about Lety’s enemy. Well, Lety’s ex-enemy. He suspects he’ll never talk to her again.

Caro brings Lety to the Nuestra Belleza (Our Beauty) photo shoot. Alex tells the women how to pose. Caro talks about everything they will be doing with these ladies. Lety doesn’t understand why they have to do so many things to these women when they’re so naturally beautiful. She thinks to herself that she does not want to be this close to the most beautiful women in the country. Caro smiles at the women.

Lola is on the phone and asks Erasmo how Lety is doing. Erasmo tells Lola that Lety is outside of the district of Mexico City. The cuartel look at each other, surprised.

Alex makes over the Nuestra Belleza women some more. Caro walks up and introduces herself and Lety. Alex can’t remember her name at first, but he finally gets it down. Caro reminds Lety that her job is to attend to each of the women and give them whatever they need. Lety asks if this means she’ll be near the women. She can’t do that. Lety scampers off the stage. Caro gives chase. Lety tells Caro that she’s scared and that she wouldn’t have the least idea what these women would need. Caro says that she’s sure that Lety can do this work. Lety pardons herself and says she can do it. Caro asks Alex to introduce Lety to the women. Alex says of course he will. First, he introduces Caro. The women politely welcome her. Caro introduces herself and says she’ll help them with whatever they need. Next Caro introduces Lety. The women give her a half-hearted greeting and leave. Lety looks on miserably, and comes to Caro when called.

Caro tells Lety that she will be traveling with the women while Caro goes in the car with Ceci. Lety says that this is quite ironic considering she’ll be in that bus with Mexico’s most beautiful women. . Caro tells Lety to get all the women into the bus. Lety hesitantly calls to the women to get on the bus. The women giggle, but politely nod to Lety when they pass her. Lety gets onto the bus last. She calls to Caro who tells Lety to attend to her job. Lety looks for a seat on the bus, changes her mind and sits by the driver. The women sing the “Club of las Feas” song. Lety asks them not to sing anymore. She asks the driver to take them to the hotel. The women sit and talk among themselves.

At Conceptos the cuartel watch Marcia leave. Marcia walks over to a crying Alicia who says she’s ready to die. Marcia understands that it’s about Alicia’s car. Marcia says there are more important things. Marcia compares Alicia’s car to her (Marcia’s) life. Alicia says that Marcia had a boyfriend and a business, all Alicia had was her car. She asks Marcia where she’s going. Marcia says she’s going to her apartment. Alicia says she wants to go somewhere to end her depression, but she has to go home alone. Marcia says that Alicia can go to her house and have a drink. Alicia thanks Marcia and yells at the cuartel. Marcia tells Alicia to focus on her own problems and to leave the cuartel alone. Alicia turns to a tangent about Tomas Mora and how much she hates him. Alicia asks Marcia if they can eat. They enter the elevator.

PM conjectures that Lety’s trip was a story made up by Don Erasmo. Lola says that she’s not calling back; Erasmo was really mad! Sara asks what happened to their Lety.

Lety goes to eat at the buffet, but is cut off by one of the Belleza chicas. Lety not so gracefully gets some fish and walks back to her table with Caro and Alex. Lety exclaims that fish is very delicious. Of course, Caro reminds they take very good care of the Nuestra Belleza women’s health. They have the best chef. Ms. Veracruz comes over and asks for the chef. The ladies applaud the meal. Caro asks Alex if the contestants know the chef. Alex says he only appears occasionally. Lety asks why this chef is so important.

Back at the ocean, our fisherman meditates on the crying woman he saw earlier. It was like she remained with nothing and had lost direction in her life. He yells to the ocean that they know what it’s like when the person they love in the world the most lies to them and betrays them.

Who is this mysterious fisherman? Will someone get him some pants?
Can this chef be as charming as Caro claims?

The worst gift is a fruitcake. There is only one fruitcake in the entire world, and people keep sending it to each other.

Navidad Sin Fin - Dec. 18, 2006

EPISODE 6:
(I missed the first part of this episode; here is the second half of the episode that I was able to watch.)

Augustin and children meet up with people in the neighborhood marketplace (the lady is Ana Martin (Rosario, AR); one of the men is Adalberto Parra (Delfino, AR, Higinio, Alborada).) Angelita with Rodito holding Gabriel the teddy bear at her side tells the group about all the people suffering in the world and that need help. She tells them about the angel of mercy.

In his office, Darro is burnt by the fire in the orphanage, he is holding a gun aimed at Isabelle and Monica and is talking on the phone asking his boss for help, the children have escaped. Darro wants a doctor - Monica begs for medical care for her brother Manuel laying injured on the floor. Darro refuses the plea and blames Manuel for his losses. Isabelle and Monica help Manuel and defend him against Darro. Darro continues to wave the gun and threaten them to keep them hostage. He presses Manuel to tell him where the children went. Manuel doesn't say anything.

At the marketplace, the group is stringing a light around the wall for Christmas. As they are talking, Manuel struggling towards the group. As he falls to the ground in pain, the group surrounds him. He came to get help for Darro.

Darro is holding Monica and Isabelle hostage. As they plead with Darro, Pedro storms into the office and attacks Darro, wrestling and trying to force Darro to tell him where Angelita and Rodito are. As Pedro pushes Darro to the floor, Pedro runs to pick up Monica to carry her out. Isabelle runs back for the briefcase of money on the desk - against Pedro's advice. Darro pops up and tries to fight with her for the case. Pedro yells for them to leave the case there and get out now. They all leave. The money lays scattered on the floor and a whirlpool of air starts to swirl it around.

The children and the group cry as they discuss how to help Manuel. Pedro, Isabelle and Monica arrive. Monica runs crying to her brother Manuel. Pedro kneels down and hugs Angelita and Rodito. Manuel asks Angelita if Pedro is her father, she looks and says no he isn't. Manuel makes a profound statement and then he dies.

Monica holds Manuel's head in her lap. Isabelle is arguing with the men about going back for their suitcases and to get help. Pancho agrees with the other men. Reina gives sympathy and comfort. Monica starts to cry and blame Angelita and Rodito for everything, including Manuel's death. She cries out "Where's your father? Where is Christmas?" Angelita tells Monica that she never lied about anything, that everything she has said is true and gives Monica a comforting hug. Monica still wants to know where Angelita's father is. Angelita takes Rodito's hand and they walk over to the wall. She tells the group that her father is there with them right now. A bright yellow light streams in from the upper window, down over Angelita and Rodito and lights up Manuel's body on the floor. Manuel's body starts to float in the air. Everyone is mesmerized by the magical moment. Manuel starts to wake up and smiles at Angelita and Rodito. As the light decreases, Manuel kneels down on the ground. Everyone else kneels down in thanks and prayer (the "Halleluyah chorus" plays in the background). The white light streams down over the entire group.

Heridas Friday Dec 15

When Miranda is telling Al to get lost, she sure has lots of spit and stuff flying out of her mouth, not very attractive. Cesar arrives and tells her not to believe anything Al says.

Francisco, Amparito, and Carola gossip about the San Llorente house being stripped clean, Carola pretends to think it’s such a shame, then Raul comes running in. I think what he said was that Renata was at the hacienda and Juan took her aside to talk to her but is kind of keeping her locked up, like he won’t let her leave without talking to him. If that’s wrong somebody please correct me. I’d ask my wife, but she has long since grown tired of watching novelas with muchas pausas while I write. We only watch together when I’m not recapping. Either that or she doesn’t really like this show. Anyway, after Raul says that, Carola has a look on her face like she could pull a Bobbit on Juan.

Juan and Renata (wearing a nice short skirt) are in Valle de Bravo, I’m not sure where that is or why they are there. They act pissy towards each other and finally Renata tells about Charo and the bloody handkerchief. Some more talk about Miranda not having her house any more, then back to their fractured relationship. Juan wants to walk and talk, but not before getting in a dig about not being able to take her to New York. Renata says something bitchy and they almost kiss, but then laugh and go for a walk. What?

Somehow everyone else showed up before Al challenges Cesar to fight. Cesar says he’s not guilty of anything, especially about Al kissing Babe Lawyer, Cesar goes on to talk about what a loser Al is. Miranda convinces Cesar to leave, Fab goes with him. Miranda wants to know what happened. Al says Vicente might be able to negotiate with the banks, Flor whines, Fern says she has a little money set aside. Flor whines some more and they take her to her room to rest, leaving Al and Miranda behind. Al says he sold his watch to pay for a couple things to be left behind for Flor and the baby. Al asks if the time has come when they can talk, Miranda says yes. Somehow that question and answer gets the ominous music treatment and long impactado stares. Forced drama. Like “are you thirsty?” “Yes.” Dum dum dummmmm.

Back to Juan and Renata – Juan has his shirt unbuttoned all the way to his belt. Renata whines about everybody bossing her around and being confused. Juan disses Bertha and Renata changes the subject – “what’s going to happen with us?” Juan doesn’t want a divorce, Renata says she won’t ever live poor, Juan cries. He walks away to stare at the water. For effect I think.

Santiago comes into Flor’s room, like he’s about to give last rites. OH oh she wants to confess. All the dialogue is whispered and Santiago gives her God’s forgiveness. Flor feels better. Santiago gives his usual keep your chin up speech. She gives the padre an envelope to give to Miranda after she dies. Santiago says he’s going to go to Nuria’s school to see if he can find anything out about where she might have gone. Flor says no, she knows that it was Bertha who took Nuria.

Al and Miranda are talking in the big empty house. Al said after Miranda accused him of having feelings for Babe Lawyer after saying her name in bed, so he thought maybe it was true. Then he says Vicente tried to get him to hire Babe Lawyer for months but Al said no, eventually he decided she could help his case. Miranda says “tell me the truth – did you like it?” Al says Babe Lawyer is hot, no point in denying it. He then gives her the “I had to see if I felt something” excuse, then saying “I felt nothing.” Give me a break. This is the lamest thing I have ever heard. Unfortunately, I have heard friends of mine try to pass this same crap along to women. Even worse, sometimes they believe it. Whatever. Miranda then tells Al that for sure Babe Lawyer set this all up for Cesar to show up, she fell in love with him so she tried to find a way to piss off Miranda.

Fab explains to Fern that he has to stay close to Cesar so he can hear if anything slips and he can get info. Fern calls Bertha to ask her to move back to the big house. I think to keep her and Cesar apart. Bertha says she’ll think about it. Fern and Fab agree that the important thing is to stay in contact with Bertha to keep tabs on her.

Back to the Valle. Somehow Juan and Renata have ended up on a sailboat and Renata has found time to change into shorts. The last conversation didn’t seem to say “let’s go sailing” but here they are. They just sit there and look at each other, look away, nothing. Finally Renata says she loves this place. The A+ #1 sound technician has decided that right on the waterline would be a great place for a microphone. We can barely hear the actors but we REALLY HEAR THE WATER LAPPING UP AGAINST THE BOAT SPLASH SPLASH. Renata says she would like to live there, Juan says yeah right. He says he doesn’t believe it, she says something about what if she said she didn’t want to divorce him would he be convinced, he says prove it (or something like that) and they start making out. Then there is a montage of them sailing and having fun. They don’t show the part where suddenly he has a vision of her making out with Cesar, because you know that is going to happen at some point. They can act happy all they want, someday laying in bed after sex he’s going to think “that bastard Cesar was there too” and not be able to sleep for days. Trust me, this will happen. I’m also not sure where Juan learned to sail in the ghetto, I don’t remember seeing the barrio boat club.

Pamela has come to visit Miranda (finally, we need more Pamela. Unless she’s being a bitch like she has been lately.) Miranda says she has to outsmart Babe Lawyer. Miranda says she wants a man who can tell her that he has eyes for nobody but her and for her to not doubt it. Al hears this part, but just says “uh there’s coffee ready in the kitchen if you want some.”

Renata and Juan play around in the pool. Who is paying for the room here? Not pobre Juan. Uh oh, Renata is distracted, is she having second thoughts? She says no, happy happy kiss kiss forever etc etc.

Everyone agrees Al should stay at the house tonight, Luciano says that tomorrow Al is selling his own house.

Juan and Renata are having sex, he’s sure to have the ugly Cesar vision any minute. In the morning he wakes up and Renata isn’t there. She’s long gone. Juan runs outside and she’s not anywhere. We see her driving somewhere else, no idea where. Now Juan is running on the same street where we just saw her driving, she must have just left. Juan in his white white white clothes sits down on some very dirty stairs. Renata is driving and crying, Juan cries too, everybody cries.

Miranda is telling Al not to sell his house, why not the cars? Fab runs in and says that something is wrong with Flor, he can’t get her to respond. She said she didn’t want to go to a hospital again, so Fern is on the way. They run in and try to wake her up. She has a pulse but won’t wake up. Fern walks in and tells them all to move over. Fab has an amazingly pained look. Fern prepares some injection and sticks it into Flor’s arm. Al says Miranda was right, they should call an ambulance anyway. Fern says forget it, it’s too late. Everybody cries.

Charo has a mental flashback about Gonz getting shot and what she did with the bloody handkerchief. She thinks maybe she should just leave before she gets fired, now that the SLs are poor and don’t need her.

Miranda, Al, and Fab all try to comfort each other. Fab and Al get into an argument about who is suffering more. Miranda says the most important thing is that they are all together. Pamela comes in and Miranda goes to her for comfort, Al isn’t please about that. Fab cries about it being unfair that Flor will die without seeing her son again.

Somehow Flor is awake again and talking to Fern. Flor asks that they keep looking for her son. Flor says she’s tired, so so so tired… but she wants to see Bertha – call her, get her over here. Fern says ok and goes to call her. Flor prays to the virgin while she waits.

Fern tells the others that she has to call Bertha, everyone loves that idea of course. Bertha answers the phone at Cesar’s house. Bertha rattles on a bunch of whatever, finally Miranda manages to tell her why she called, Bertha agrees to come. Cesar tells her to wait a minute first and talk to him. He wants to know what Bertha will do when Flor dies. About what? About Fab’s son! Ah, she’ll tell him later. She says this death better not mess up her plans. How inconsiderate of Flor to die without consulting Bertha first.

The SOS (I like that too) are being really mean to Nuria.

Mundo de Fieras - Friday 12/15/06: Edgar, we hardly knew ye!

Gabe takes delight in delivering a copy of the annulment papers to Jos. “With the appearance of your first husband, our marriage is invalidated. You and I have no relationship!” He walks out and Jos starts the wheels a-rolling inside that psychopathic brain of hers.

Edgar and Dolores go to see Tiberio in order to tell him that she is not a murderess and he blames Edgar for having stayed away while she was falsely accused. Edgar agrees, but says that is in the past. Ti says well, may be, but “I still have no intention of accepting her as my mother.” Edgar argues with Ti saying he must not reject her out of hand like that, but Ti shoots back that he is nobody to be telling him anything about how to respond and leaves in a huff. Dolores excuses him again and says, “It is a matter of time.”

Jos calls up Federico to tell him that Dolores has found Edgar alive and brought him back home with her. She talks to him and uses this irritatingly frail voice that (like every other tone Edith Gonzales uses with this character) just grates on the nerves. Sounding aggravatingly meek and helpless, she tells her damned fool of a father that now Edgar has gotten her all upset and she worries for her children. Then Jos tells him that he is staying in a hotel and has demanded a meeting with her there that evening. Of course Freddy the Fool has fallen for the scam, hook, line and sinker. “You can’t go there, it’s too risky.” “--I have to go. He’s threatened me with horrible things if I don’t show.” (Cheshire cat grin here.) The whole time this is going on she is fingering her pistol. Freddy demands to go in her place, but she tells him she would never forgive herself if Edgar tried something to harm him. (More Cheshire cat grins and pistol pawing here.) “Well, okay-y-y-y. I will give you the address to the hotel, but you be careful there, alright?”

Meanwhile, Dolores tells Edgar she has no idea what to expect of her son. Edgar cheerily tells her that one day soon he’ll wake up and realize what a wonderful mother he has. They agree to meet for dinner later that night after she rests up and he reacquaints himself with the city. (Hugs all around.) “Just remember that come what may, I love you,” he assures her. (Uh-oh, generally a bad sign when they put this in the script.) “Nothing bad will happen. You’ll see.” (uh-huh.)

Regina gets the biggest surprise of her life when she and Demian finally go up to the suite he’s reserved for them. He opens the door up and shows her a double bed full of rose petals in the shape of a heart on top. “I can cancel it all if you say so,” Demian tells her. She is moved by the gesture, in fact by the whole day’s worth of events. She walks in and looks around her. They move closer and closer till they share a very romantic kiss. (Well, Regina. He isn’t exactly Gabe, but close enough, I suppose, as long as he keeps that crazy temper in check. It’s a shame though, that an angel like you will have to settle for second best. Now if you can just get him to do something about that Hitler haircut of his!) The two of them start gettin’ it on (Hot damn! Demian, you ol’ cur. You actually did it!) while we hear snippets of Percy Sledge (wha-?) singing “When a Man Loves a Woman” in the background.

When Edgar gets back to the hotel room he finds Jos sitting on his bed. He’s surprised at her attempt to immediately seduce him, but she manages to convince him. As she says, after all they are still married to each other.....I guess he figured "She’s got a point there," because he kicks his libido into high gear and, just like a man, his good sense is shot all to heck. While he has farmed out his thought processes to the lower parts of his anatomy, Jos sneaks, unbeknownst to him, into her purse and pulls out her trusty pistol, giving a whole new dimension to the phrase, “pistol packin’ momma”. (Oh, Edgar! Pay attention, Ed! ) She gets off a shot to his lower abdomen. Finally, he’s figured out what a fool he was to let his guard down and accuses her and Miriam of the attempt on his life twenty years earlier. She confesses that it was Demian and her mother, but with her full knowledge and agreement. He was just too much of a nuisance asking for money all the time. Edgar tries reaching for a phone but she shoots him again, this time in the heart. Immediately she rips her clothes up and messes up her hair. Right then Freddy comes a-knockin’.

Jos cries crocodile tears and screams hysterically to her father that she shot Edgar while he was trying to rape her. The hotel security arrives a couple minutes after and her dimwitted daddy decides to take the blame for having killed her husband. (Close up on the grinning Cheshire cat again.)

Back at Demian’s house, Nicolas is giving his assurance to Dolores that with Edgar’s safe return, Ti will come to accept her as his mother. Right about then Ti comes home from a hard day at the office and catches them in an innocent hug. He accuses his mother of being a slut pretty much and begins loudly hurling insults while she lamely tries to explain. Suddenly we hear Nicolas try to shut this over-aged brat in long pants up. “Who are you to tell me anything?” “Listen, boy! I will not permit you to insult or to show a lack of respect to your mother!” (You go, Nic! Let the overgrown snot have it!) Nic leaves reluctantly after this telling her to call him should she need him. Once he’s gone Dolores has to chase Ti up the stairs to ask him to listen to her. He refuses and yells at her that she’s not only an ex-con but a whore as well. This just knocks the wind out of her sails and she drops down onto the stairs and cries her heart out.

Karen and Miriam argue about why they lied to her with a story about her father’s ashes and never mentioned her having an aunt all these years. Miriam tells her granddaughter that it was to spare her deep embarrassment. (Somehow, I don't think that is an emotion any of this trio is familiar with.) Karen remarks that it is too late for him to enter into her life now anyway. "Gram" reminds her then that she is just like her mother and her: a wild animal that doesn’t need anybody else.

Gabe goes looking for Mariangela and stops by her house to tell her that his marriage has been annuled because of the unexpected reappearance of his wife's first husband. He admits he’s feeling foolish for letting himself get carried away with the impulse to tell her. She gives him that same stupid blank look and says nothing but, "I dont understand." He says that he just wanted her to know that now he’s a free man and leaves. (What’s not to understand, Mariangela? Gees!)

A bit later Candy comes to visit Mariangela with that wad of cash in her pocket that she retrieved from her thieving, slutty daughter and she hands it over to Mariangela to help out her and her ailing father. Clemente feels rotten because he is blind, penniless and a burden on her. A bit later Mayeya and Cortito come by with the bad news that Cortito is being kicked out of his place because he can’t pay the rent. Mariangela gives the cash over to him as his need is greater than theirs for now.

Gabe goes to visit Little Lui to explain how and why he and his mother are no longer officially married now that her first husband has come back unexpectedly. He meets up with Miriam and Karen on his way up the stairs and gives them the news that the marriage is annulled with Edgar’s return. They stare evilly at him.

Jos returns to the manse after "thanking" her father profusely for having taken the blame for her crime. Freddy has told her and later, himself, that it was his responsibility as her father. This is something a father does, and he’s fulfilling that obligation. Once she is out of his sight she can hardly contain her laughter she is so delighted with herself.

Once home, Jos feigns terrible sadness and lies to her daughter and Miriam that Freddy has just killed Edgar while trying to save her from him. Miriam drops her glass of brandy, gets another and takes a very big gulp as Jos tells her story to Karen. “We had a meeting time set and I thought we would just talk. That’s why I told Federico. Federico told me not to go. I should have paid attention to him. (sob, sob). When I arrived Edgar started to fondle me and wanted a great amount of money! This way our life would be turned into a hell. I begged him to leave me in peace, but he would not pay attention to me. Then he ripped my clothes and attempted to rape me." (Ay! Sob, sob. Breathe.)

Jos continues with her story, "I tried defending myself as best I was able. I yelled and screamed but nobody helped me. Then Federico came and he shot him to protect me. It was all done to protect you, my daughter. You do believe me, don’t you?” Karen, overcome with emotion from what she has just heard answers, “Yes, mother. I do believe you.” (There is no way, though, that Miriam believes this horse-puckey, knowing the psychopathic horse’s mouth she just heard it from, but she has the good sense to keep it to herself.) Immediately after, Jos gets up, pours herself a drink and, with her hand on her hip, she tells her mother, sounding very cool and collected, that if anybody questions them, they will repeat this story she’s just told them: “Federico killed Edgar. Dolores brought Edgar back to do harm to us, but I was not going to permit it.” Then she offers her drink to Karen. Miriam lets out a low breath and says nothing --but you just know she has to be counting the bodies and wondering how many more there will be.

In the meantime, Otilia has gone to see feckless Freddy and begs him to tell her who he is covering for. “I know you’re not a murderer! You’re a lousy husband, but you are not a murderer. Who did it? I know you know!!” He just stares silently off into space, with maybe the slightest look of panic in his eyes.

Pau and JC discuss goofy names for their unborn child and Pau mentions that she doesn’t trust Tiberio. (Better listen, Juan Cristobal!) Then Pau sends him off to get some mango and chiles that she craves.

Dolores and Nic go to meet Edgar to join him for dinner, but when they enter the lobby and ask the staff to ring up to his room security comes to take them upstairs. Dolores must identify her dead brother’s body and cries inconsolably while Nicolas finds out that Freddy is giving his statement downtown at the jail. He has told authorities that he killed Edgar while defending the woman who was here in the room with him. Dolores turns around and asks her name. When the security officer answers "Joselyn Cervantes Bravo" Dolores howls her frustration.

Gabe comes downstairs from seeing his son and Jos tells him that they’re all upset because unfortunately, Federico has killed Edgar. Gabe is impactado and races over to the jail with Nic to talk to Freddy. Nic catches Gabe up on what he and Dolores were trying to accomplish. Neither of them believe Jos’s story. It was their idea, Nic explains, simply to bring him back to prove Dolores’ innocence. Nic says he knows that Edgar was not capable of harming anybody and probably was killed to keep him from finding out the truth about who tried to kill him back then. They go into question Freddy. He just repeats emphatically that HE was the one who killed Edgar. He claims he doesn’t know why they had to come and tells them it doesn’t matter whether they believe him or not. HE killed him! HE killed Edgar! They don’t even get a chance to tell him they know better. He just keeps blurting it out. Gabe stares at him, dumbfounded.

In bed, by candlelight, Regina thanks Demian for finally making her feel special and protected in his arms. He says he made a mistake once, but he promises that he will never give her reasons for them to be apart from each other again. (Sing it, Percy. Sing it!)

Later, Miriam and Jos are discussing strategy again. Jos is lounging on her mother's desk in her Russian style peel-off jeans and knee-high, black stiletto boots while telling Miriam how Freddy decided to take the blame and promised her not to let anyone know he’s her daddy. She assures Miriam that even if anybody did accuse her, they have no proof. Miriam praises her daughter’s “skills” again and tells her that she did everything correctly. Suddenly, Dolores comes bursting into the room, furiously screaming at her. She rushes at Jos and jumps in her face, slapping her ferociously, twice, and knocking her backward onto Miriam’s desk. “YOU!! You killed Edgar!!” she screeches while choking Jos with every ounce of strength she has. Miriam pulls at Dolores’ hair and tries to pull her off her daughter; she is screaming at Dolorous, “Let her go! Let her go!” while Dolorous is screaming at Jos (who is in one hell of a strangle-hold) and accusing her of killing her brother. Jungle cats growl and yowl in the background as the fur begins to fly.

La Fea Más Bella #168 12/15/06 Reversals of fortune

Lety, Fernando, Marcia, Omar, and Alicia have all had their lives turned upside-down. Let's see how the dust settles!

Rehash - for Men!

Fern is at his desk, packing some of his things into a box. Omar shows up looking dejected, with a piece of paper in his hand. He's looking for Humberto, to turn in his resignation, but Fern says Humberto has already left.

The rehash session begins. Omar wonders why Lety did it. Fern says "duh, she read your stupid letter!" They review Lety's motives. Omar wonders how long ago she read it. Fern doesn't know, but adds that Lety also heard them plotting to send her out of the country. What better revenge than to unmask them in front of the committee? He recounts the phone call to Lety's house and vows to go looking for her. Omar wants to know why. "Do you know what that woman could be thinking??" Fern replies. He doesn't want Lety thinking that The Letter was the whole truth. He needs to tell her the whole story.

Omar asks about Marcia. Fern says she cancelled the wedding and doesn't want anything to do with him. He swears he couldn't stand her a second longer anyway. Omar wonders if Marcia found out about the romance with Lety. (I just noticed he hasn't said "gargolita" yet. That's progress!) Fern says, "If Lety had wanted her to find out about it, she would have put a copy of The Letter in her folder too, don't you think?" Personally, Fern doesn't care what Marcia thinks. He puts the Golden Lion (the Cannes trophy) on top of his box of personal effects. Then he puts it on his desk. "I'll leave it for my father," he says. (Good thinking.)

Omar asks what Fern will do even if he does find Lety and gets her to listen to him. She went away; what does he want with her? Fern explains that it's for his own peace of mind; he feels sorry for what he did. Fernando tells Omar, "You were born without a heart." Omar asks if he wants something from her besides forgiveness. Fern says, "I need her with me, Carvajal." Omar asks if he is thinking of starting a relationship with her. (Starting?? Where has Omar been all this time that he thinks they would only be STARTING a relationship?) "Of course," Fern says. Omar thinks Fern is crazy. What will people think, when they find out?

"What else can happen?" Fern answers. What else that hasn't already happened? As for Marcia, he says, they're pretty much finished, and he doesn't have to explain to her what he's going to do with his life.

Spring Collection, by Lety

After refusing Fern's phone call, Lety tells her father that Fern is just annoyed that she quit, that's all. Before RoboPop can ask any more questions, Lety asks Tomas for her taxi. Tomas points to RoboPop. (I don't know why she thought she would take a taxi.) RoboPop says of course he's going to take her to the airport - he's got a very fancy car out there.

Mom joins them with some warm-weather dresses from her own collection to lend to Lety. One of them is plain, but far more fashionable than anything Lety owns. RoboPop complains that it's too revealing for their daughter. (It's sleeveless, and the neckline is slightly lower than the choking collars that Lety usually ears.) It's not decent enough for his tastes. (Mom exclaims, "are you calling me indecent?!") . The other is a pastel thing with long sleeves and a huge collar, but with lighter fabric than Lety usually wears. Naturally, he approves of this.

There's a third, light-green dress than I don't get a good look at. Um, anyway, enough of the fashion show. Lety packs these and RoboPop warns her against bathing suits and bikinis and other provocative clothing around men on the beach. Tomas suggests that she wear gloves, too. Mom giggles. Pop doesn't get the joke. ;-) Lety says she won't be putting on a bathing suit - the only one she has looks like it could be her grandmother's.

Lety makes a big deal of leaving her diary behind. ("Should I take it? No, I'll leave it.") As soon as Lety and Tomas leave the room, Mom hides it under a blanket. RoboPop is intrigued and wants to read it right away! Mom says it's time to go. :-)

The Breakup

Fern and Omar step into the executive lobby, where they are immediately accosted by Alicia. She wants to know what happened with the waiters and all the food. He tells her she can go into the meeting room, get the waiters, serve the food, and eat it. Alicia says, "I don't get it. If I go in without the waiters, they yell at me; if I go in with the waiters, they insult me; etc. etc."

Teresita and Marcia approach. Alicia tries to tattle on how mean Fern is. Marcia says tell the waiters to serve the food to the employees. Teresita asks Alicia to help her make some calls. Alicia eagerly agrees and asks who she should call. Dramatically (in front of Fern), Teresita says, "the invitees to the wedding... to tell them... that there won't BE a wedding."

Alicia says "ay Marcia," but by this time she almost sounds hoarse from whining so much! PM, Lola, and Sara exchange discreet glances and try to listen in without being too obvious. "You can't do this to me!" Alicia whines. She says she already bought them a gift and made payments on it. She wants an explanation. Marcia says not right now. Instead, she wants to talk to Fern. She orders him into her office. Fern asks Omar to wait in his office.

Alicia tries to get the story out of Teresita instead. T says it's something to be discussed behind closed doors. Alicia agrees, because of all the gossips around them. (Sara makes a face at her. PM laughs. Teresita looks perplexed.)

Fern follows Marcia into her office and closes the door. "I won't waste much of your time," Marcia says. She says he must feel pretty content now that she's cancelled the wedding, as he had hoped. Now she has to face the invitees. He offers to help with that. She says no thank you. She says today at the meeting, Lety did her a big favor: she saved Marcia from marrying a two-faced jerk who was capable of destroying the family legacy, disrespecting her parents' memory. She's out of his life.

Fern says he had to confide in Lety, because Marcia never would have permitted what he was going to do (i.e. be dishonest about the company's financial problems). Marcia says he confided in a stranger, who betrayed him, instead of confiding in a woman who had always loved him, had fought for him, and defended him unconditionally. She dedicated her life to him. But that was his decision, and now she has her own. She said it in the meeting and now she'll say it to his face: she's not going to marry him.

Fern bears all of this patiently (after all, he never wanted to marry her in the first place), then vows to win back everything that he lost for the family and for Conceptos. She says don't worry - we're not expecting anything from you. He says he's sorry, he isn't trustworthy, and she doesn't have to marry someone who doesn't deserve her. He asks for her forgiveness.

She says, "I'm not done yet, Fernando. I know you did all of this for your ego, to defeat Ariel, but I have something that I don't understand, much less approve of." She opens her desk drawer and whips it out - The Letter. "I want to know your opinion of this." She begins to recite the letter... FROM MEMORY.

Fern wants to know who gave that to her. Instead of answering him, she whips out the stack of Carvajallmarks and waves them at him. "These - these are your big romantic campaign?" She throws them down in disgust. She looks at The Letter and reads her favorite part. "'To keep the love alive, take a drink, and if you're sufficiently inspired, go to bed with her.'" She closes her eyes, trying to make the words disappear.

Fern again asks who gave that to her. "Who do you think?" she whispers. "The one who betrayed you at the meeting - Leticia. To whom you gave your life and your trust." She quotes from the letter again. "'Yes, yes, I know you're making the face of a martyr, but you don't seem to detest going to bed with her as much as you used to.'"

Fern begs her to stop. He says he well knows what's in that letter. He already explained what he did. The committee wiped him out and he's had enough. Marcia says no, he didn't talk about that subject. Did he go to bed with Lety? He says he doesn't want to give any more explanations. She says they're not necessary - The Letter is clear enough. (She is approaching him slowly.) She's just going to add one more thing to his sentence.

With that, she backhands him across the face. She takes off the ring, holds in up for him to see, and lets it fall to the floor. Rubbing her hand, she says she could have forgiven his financial failings, but he has fallen way too low.

Silently, Fern leaves. Marcia sits on the floor and weeps bitterly. (Her forehead almost wrinkles.)

Teresita intercepts Fern and asks where he's going. He says all she needs to know is that he's leaving, just as they all asked him to. Teresita says he had to resign as president, but he can't leave the company. Alicia comes running over to ask why Fern isn't president. Fern says "because I grew tired of looking at you, and decided to resign."

Alicia says "if you're not president, I don't have to listen to your yelling and nonsense any more." She shoves Omar and Fern out of the way and goes into Marcia’s office. Teresita reminds Fern and Omar that they need to stick around and help the company recuperate. Fern indicates that that's what he plans to do. He promises to recuperate all that he has lost them.

Omar pulls Fern aside and asks how it went with Marcia. Fern says Lety gave Marcia the letter - it was the perfect end to the perfect day (that's a loose interpretation of "she closed the golden clasp on the day"). Fern goes off to look for Lety.

Rehash - for Women!

Alicia asks Marcia to explain everything. Marcia doesn't much feel like it, but reluctantly reveals that Fern put Conceptos in Lety's name. Aghast, Alicia wants details, but Marcia says these are legal and financial issues that she wouldn't understand. Indignant, Alicia protests that she had - let's say it all together, folks - six semesters of finance at a very prestigious university, so of course she will understand! Marcia says she's not going to explain.

Alicia asks why life is so generous to Lety. She gets to own Conceptos PLUS that other company from her rich boyfriend. Now Marcia gives Alicia some really shocking news: Filmo-Imagen was formed with Conceptos money and Tomas is just the nobody who managed the company's investments. Alicia has a sick look on her face. "You mean to tell me that he's not a millionaire?"

"Exactly," Marcia answers, "he's another deadbeat (muerto de hambre) like Lety - the only thing he did was use our money to buy a sports car."

Alicia starts to cry. Marcia asks what's wrong. Alicia says she feels violated. She was raped. Marcia looks worried, until Alicia adds, "AND ALL FOR FREE!!"

Marcia asks what happened with Tomas. Alicia says nothing, then says it's not her day, and starts crying about her car. Easily following Alicia's train of thought, Marcia smugly realizes that Alicia's plan with Tomas backfired. Alicia swears that the money was only going to be a loan. Marcia makes a crack about Alicia's poor payment history. Alicia accuses Marcia of only caring about money! She claims that she will someday pay back every last cent Marcia loaned her. Marcia says she'll need to get a rich boyfriend.

Marcia asks point-blank if Alicia went to bed with Tomas. Alicia screeches indignantly (again, sounding hoarse). Marcia asks again, "did you sleep with him so he would give you the money for your car?" Alicia says "No, no, no, no, no... ay... sí, sí, sí...." She says it was a moment of weakness.

"Financial weakness?" Marcia asks. "It was two weaknesses," Alicia answers. "Financial weakness... and that other one you already know about."

"Another one who has fallen so low," Marcia says to herself.

Teresita joins them and says it's time to make some phone calls (to cancel the wedding). She pays no attention to Alicia sobbing in front of her. (Perhaps she knows better. Or maybe she assumes that Alicia is crying about the cancelled wedding.) Marcia asks about Fern. Teresita says he left and didn’t say where.

Say goodbye to the old Lety

The Padillas meet Carolina at the airport, just in the nick of time. Lety, whose arm is in a sexy, fashionable black sling (she says she'll explain later), introduces everyone (including the dog). Mom says nice things to Carolina; Tomas snorts at her approvingly; RoboPop greets her politely. They explain that they're late because Lety broke her arm. While Tomas helps Lety check her bags, RoboPop grills Carolina about the trip. She explains that it's a beauty pageant. She will supervise the setup, attend to special guests, and that sort of thing. RoboPop worries about partying and asks Carolina to keep Lety out of trouble. He goes on to explain that Lety is timid and inexperienced. Carolina promises to look out for her. Mom apologizes for Pop's behavior.

They say their goodbyes. Lety promises to call when they arrive. Mom gives them food and a blessing. RoboPop tells Lety to stay out of the water because an animal might try to eat her. He warns her not to forget her education in Acapulco. Tomas tells her to have a good time and forget about everything. Lety tells him to forget, too. He asks if Alicia asked about him. Lety says she didn’t dare! RoboPop tells her to wear her seat belt. There's another round of hugging and kissing, and Lety tearfully makes her way over to Carolina. Mom calls out that they'll take care of Moty.

Lety tells Caro she's afraid to fly. She also apologizes about her father. Caro says it's because her parents love her so much.

The Daystalker

Fern speeds up to Lety's house in his Blurabout and waits for them to come home. Eventually they arrive. (Thunder rumbles in the distance.) Mom greets him. He shakes hands with RoboPop. He holds out his hand to Tomas. Tomas shakes it grudgingly.

Fern asks for Lety. RoboPop says she's not home. Fern asks when she will be back. RoboPop says she left town.

(Back at Conceptos, Alicia sits in the restroom, crying that "that horrible woman is his lover." She asks herself how she ever could have imagined it. It looks like she re-applied her coral eyeshadow for the specific purpose of smearing it when she pulls her hand down her face.)

It has started to rain. Fern presses for details. Tomas intervenes and tells him that Lety's whereabouts are not Fern's concern. Fern says "excuse me, Tomas, but I am speaking with Erasmo." not talking to you," but Tomas is firm with him! He says, "Don't come back, I've told you twice now." Shocked, Mom asks Tomas why he's being so rude with Fernando. Tomas hints that Fernando isn't so nice either.

In a more reasonable tone, RoboPop tells Fern that Lety asked them not to say where she went. Fern says that he'd like to explain, but it's personal. Julieta suggests that when Lety calls, they will ask her to call Fern. Fern unhappily agrees. RoboPop says that if Lety left any loose ends when she left Conceptos, if the accounts are out of order, to please call him, RoboPop, and he'll come over and fix them. :-) Fern says it's nothing like that, just please have her call. He humbly thanks them and excuses himself. They go into the house and Fern drives away in the rain. RoboPop is left with lots of questions that Tomas can't answer!

Tomas leaves, saying he'll come back later to chat on the phone with Lety. (As he opens the door, I notice harsh sunlight streaming through. Apparently, it only rained just long enough to soak Fern and his car.) RoboPop is still uneasy about Fern's visit. He wonders why Lety wants to hide from this man. Julieta is concerned also. The dog looks bored.

Caro shows us her bra

Granted, it's a fancy bra, it's not like it's some ratty old thing she dug out of the back of her underwear drawer, but still, it just looks like she forgot to button her jacket.

On the plane, Carolina asks Lety how she broke her hand. Lety says she was at the house and had forgotten her bag. She went to her room, and, for whatever reason, she went into her trunk and pulled out a framed photo of Fernando. (I don't know when or how she got it.) She asked herself if she wanted to take it with her, or leave it. She decided not to. She put it down. She said "I'm leaving, Don Fernando. I'm going far away to change my life. I'm going to forget you." She cried a little, then said angrily "I'm going to forget you, Fernando Mendiola." Then she smashed her hand down on the photo, breaking the glass.

"One more time, Don Fernando hurt me," Lety concludes the story.

(I thought a better explanation would have been "I had this awesome nightmare where I pushed all the plates and glasses off the table and cut myself, and then when I woke up, my hand was all bleeding and stuff!")

Caro points out that Lety hurt herself, too. She has to learn to control her emotions. This trip will help. She will get to know a new person in herself. Lety looks out the airplane window and says she's scared.

Finally, they get to Acapulco. (Kazoos!) Lety complains about the heat. Carolina says it's not so hot - it's Lety's clothes and stockings. She can change out of them when they get to the hotel. Lety asks what she'll need to do for this job. Caro says it'll be easier than at Conceptos - she'll work with people and organize anything that can be organized.

Two women, airline employees, pass. One of them says "No one around here is as pretty as the girlfriend of my boyfriend." Laughing, the other girl says, "No, not quite as pretty, my ugly friend. But pretty." (If I got that right, then I don't get it.) They welcome Lety and Caro to Acapulco.

Lety is filled with self-doubt. She wonders if she should have accepted this job. She says they need to talk because some things have happened since she originally offered Lety this job. Carolina says she doesn't want to talk about it here, at the airport. Lety says she doesn't want to deceive her. Carolina brushes this off. She says they need to hurry and someone named Cecilia is waiting for them.

Lety complains some more about the heat and the noise. :-) They try to walk into a building, but are forced out when a very noisy (festive) band crowds through the door! Caro tries to use her phone as they walk away from the building, followed by the band. Lety yells too, but of course Caro can't hear her so she gives up and sorta-dances with the band. Annoyed, Caro starts yelling at Lety. Lety yells back. Suddenly the music stops, and Lety is still yelling: "I can't help it, the dance is inside me, the rhythm too..." she realizes that everyone can hear her. Everyone claps for the band.

Cecilia shows up and Caro introduces her to Lety. They get in a Ford Fusion (no Swigglemobiles or Blurabouts for these ladies) and there's a brief conversation about how it's all new and air-conditioned. Lety complains again about the heat and says they still need to talk. Whatever. They all get in the car, which is photographed to its best advantage as it rolls through the roads of Acapulco.

A shirtless man goes out on a boat. We don't see his face, but we get a good look at his muscly back.

As Lety and her posse proceed to the hotel, Lety stares at the ocean and thinks to herself that it's as big as the pain in her heart.

Next week
Lety begins a new life. Will she turn into a butterfly and fly away?
Carolina drinks a piña colada. Will she get drunk and start a brawl?
The shirtless man throws out a fishing net. Will he catch anything? And isn't he fishing a little too close to the shore?
