Teresa Wed 5/4/11 #41 Arturo gives Teresa a credit card. Ay, profe; #42 What’s it to you?!

I was trying to be proactive today, so I could get the whole recap up in the morning, so I started this recap early and did it based on the youtube episodes; I am going to go through my DVR and fix any differences tomorrow. The new parts have been added in.

Episode 41: Arturo gives Teresa a credit card. Ay, profe.

We begin where we left off, with Tere hugging her slightly abused Teddy bear and remembering the fun times with Mariano. She also remembers him declaring his undying love for her, saying she will never be happy with someone else.

Hector and Aurore re: Mariano. Hector says Mar is a great guy and nothing would make him happier than if things worked out with Mar and Aur. He begins to bring in the BUT factor but she cuts him off. Please, Dad, don’t say anything. I know he is still in love with Tere, but I hope soon this will change. That he’ll be ready to love again, and I will be there, at his side.

Tere is sleeping with Juana at her side and her cell rings. She answers sleepily. It’s Luisa. She’s been up all night thinking about Fer and the model. She doesn’t know what to do. Tere reminds her she has no claim to Fernando, there is nothing between them. Plus, if she is going to like someone like Fernando, such a lady-killer, then these things are going to happen all the time (a cada rato.) Luisa says she knows. It is impossible to change that. So, what should she do when she sees him/how should she face him? (que cara yo voy a ver?) If someone has a better translation, please share! Does Tere then say, Que oso? That bear? Like calling him an animal? “No te das por vencida, Luisa” (Don’t give up, Luisa!) Luisa says, I got my hopes up with him, but I know I am not his type. Tere’s response: If you really like him, then you have to do exactly what I say.

Arm and Ref are cleaning out the things in the girls’ room. Basically, they say the same old. Ref: It pains me to do this, this space belongs to my daughters. Arm: We need the money. Ref: Ay, Rosita. Tere left to marry a man for money.

Mariano still fully dressed, with his face smashed into the couch. Haven’t we all woken up like this once? Pops Ramon walks in and wakes him up. M: Que paso?  Que paso, papa?  I don’t remember anything? R: You got super drunk and acted a fool, yelling for Teresa outside her house. M: Teresa? R: Uh huh. She was in the middle of her Asking-for-her-hand dinner. (Pedida de mano; this seems to be used as a noun to describe the event of asking.)

Johnny and Pati: Too bad Old Grumpy didn’t re-hire Armando, but on the plus side, you didn’t get fired! She hugs him just as Armando walks up—for a second I thought it was Old Grumpy. Pati leaves. Arm: Careful Johnny, she likes you but she’s the boss’s granddaughter! Johnny talks about, oh, the injustice of it all. Arm says, be careful. You could get fired.

Aurora is fidgeting with the pretty blue shirt she has on, and considers letting her cleavage show, but immediately says “Ay, no” and puts them back in their cage. Looks like she’s ready to fight for Mariano, but not with the same tactics as Teresa. She is showing more skin than usual, though. This tank top is with a black skirt with a slit. She considers a dress when her papa comes in and asks how she is. Very good, but, she’s worried about talking to Teresa. Dad says, if she’s marrying another guy, then you have a free shot (camino libre, free path) at Mariano. Dad: You’re beautiful, did you do something different? A: No Dad, it’s just that I’m happy. Dad: You’re right. You don’t need anything to make you look good. He lists all of her qualities and says that any man would be proud to have her at his side. Cute father-daughter hug.

Ramon put some food in front of Mar and tells him to eat. Yes, I say Gatorade and French fries. Father and son talk. Dad says he needs to find the way to move on, succeed without her (salir adelante.) Mariano says he will keep trying to change Teresa’s mind. Why, Ramon asks. She’s doing you wrong, (ella esta portado muy mal contigo.) Mar: she’s confused. This guy’s just dazzling her, (deslumbro; I like this word.) just to get her to react (se va a reaccionar.) Dad says he can’t forgive what she is done. Forget about her, try and find someone who deserves you (si te merezca)! Mariano’s opinion seems unchanged.

Arturo at the table, Reina walks in with an envelope for him—oh boy, I hope that’s not what it looks like. Tere walks in and kisses him. She asks how he slept. His answer: Very peacefully because I am happy that your parents are finally aware that we are going to get married (muy tranquila porque me alegro que tus padres ya estan enteraros que nos vamos a casar.) T: Yes, but my mother’s attitude really hurts me (si, aunque me duele mucho la actitud de mi mama.) A: Don’t worry. They’ll accept me once they see us together and happy. And look what just came for you! It’s a tiny piece of plastic that will ruin my whole financial life!—er, I mean, it’s a credit card! For you! Juana walks in and says she can’t accept a credit card from you until she is Senora Teresa Chavez de le Barrera. Tere make a face at her like, ‘um, hey, what the hell!?’ But not to worry, Tere, you’ve got Arturo so whipped he cuts in to explain. A: In other circumstances I might agree, but with things the way they are, this is for Teresa so she can buy everything she needs to the wedding and the wedding dress. T: Yes, that you are unable to see, mi amor. (que vas a no poder ver, mi amor.) Juana: Yes, that’s bad luck. But, like I told you, the dress, I will make, mi reina. (Yeah, by the look on Tere’s face, that ain’t gonna fly.) Juana says plus, now, they’re doing one wedding at the church. Yes, but, Teresa says, we have to buy fabric, we have to buy other bride-y stuff, do makeup tests, Ay, there are many thing and so many expenses. (Tengo que comprar telas, tengo que comprar la ajuar, hacen pruebas de maquillar, ay! Son tantas cosas y tantos gastos.) Juana is won over and asks to see her name on the card while Tere thanks Art for being such a putz. He’s happy to do it. The topic turns to Luisa. Tere says she called very early, why? He said he couldn’t get a hold of her, (yo no le localizado), her phone just rang. (I think!) Tere says well, she’s in a place without very good phone service.

Cancun: Luisa is talking with some woman about the project. In comes Fernando, asking if she’s okay. F: Estas bien? Arturo has been calling and so have I. L: I’m perfect. She rented a jeep and went out to look at the clearing (desmonte) where the building will be built, JEFE.  Did you want something else? F: Yes, I want to talk about what happened last night with Sasha. L: Why? We have nothing to talk about. (She’s studying a paper and making him follow her.) Better if you apologize to her for the way I left, but, I just didn’t like the way your NOVIA treated me. F: Sasha isn’t my girlfriend. L: Fine, you’re galána (think that’s what she said. Is this a real word, or was she just saying galán and putting the a to make it feminine?), friend with benefits (amiga con derecho), whatever you want to call her. F: Luisa, what happened was—L: What happened was you made me realize, that because I am your friends little sister, you have to accompany me to dinner or to eat. (me hizo darme cuenta que no que soy la menora hermana de su amigo, tienes que acompañar me a cenar o a comer.) F: I didn’t do it because you are Arturo’s sister. I have a great time with you, (yo contigo me paso muy bien.) L: But I don’t want you to feel obligated. (she uses ‘comprometido.’) It’s better if from now on, they only deal with each other for work, nothing else. (paraphrased) F: Luisa, don’t have a tantrum like a little girl (berrinche de niña chiquita.) F: Come on, let’s just go to the fashion show together—L: No. I was only going out of obligation. Now that I know you’re not going alone, I don’t have to go with you, JEFE. Con permiso, I have to talk to the architect. Oooh, smack down! That’s right, Luisa. Stand up for yourself. Especially after he basically called you a brat! She walks away, but looks back at him (he can’t see her) and he looks slightly disappointed and sighs (she can’t see this.)

Aurora arrives at the hospital and runs into Dr. Ledesma. They talk about how Mariano hasn’t shown up yet, which is weird because he is always on time. They hope it is nothing serious.

Tere and Juana at breakfast. Juana asks if she is going to the University today. No, Tere says, she doesn't have one final exam. All she has ledt to do is her thesis, but she's already on the last chapter. Oh, Juana says, then let's go visit the vecindad, and see your mom and Cutb--er, water my plants. No, madrina, Tere says she wants to go to the mall and use her new credit card. And that it is going to drive Aida nuts. Juana says she should invite her friend Aurora. She says, you're right. I'm going to call her.

Later, Ledesma is saying he hopes he is alright. He still hasn’t shown up—but he walks in just then, apologizing for being late. He has no good excuse for being late and Ledesma tells him that he is late, and not even for a good reason—this can’t happen again or next semester he won’t be able to help him teach. Mar is apologetic and says it won’t happen again. Ledesma leaves Aurora and Mar. She asks what happened. Teresa, he says. The same as always. Teresa. Yesterday el Lic asked for her hand. She knows, she says and he begins to say something but her phone rings and sees it’s Teresa. Mar leaves and she answers. Tere invites Aur to lunch.

Tere is at a store with Juana. An attendant comes to ask them if she can help and Tere goes on a rant about wanting to see this dress, in every color, and that she had better get some of her coworkers to come help them, and not to worry about the price because she is paying with this, and she hands the credit card to the very annoyed sales associate. Tere and Juana laugh to one another.

At the university. Ivonne and Aida are talking about, what else, Teresa. Aida is nervous about Paulo and what Tere said about him leaving Aida for Tere once he gets his mama’s money. Paulo shows up and Aida is all over him, then asking him questions about staying together forever and never betraying her.

Rubigote and Genoveva at his office. She is there annoying him about coming up with the money for the Cancun project, and fast (a week.) He uses the expenses of the wedding as an excuse, but she laughs that off. He says he might sell the departamento he has since Aida and Paulo won’t be living in it. Gen says she thought he should keep it so they could escape there together. Looks like it may be three women after all. He agrees to get the money.

Tere is at the hospital giving her dad some money. Wow. Let’s take that in for a second… okay. He says mama won’t want to take money from el Lic. Tere says to take it, she doesn’t like seeing him cleaning floors (limpiando pisos.) She wants him to quit, he says he signed on for three months and he doesn’t want to leave and make Espe look bad (because she got him the job.) Tere understands. Espe shows up and Arm gets back to work. Espe asks Tere if it is true that she’s marrying el Licenciado. Yep, she says, and shows Espe the ring. Espe wonders what kind of rung Ruben will give her. Tere says she hopes it is soon. Espe wonders how it’s going to affect Mar, you two were making plans for a wedding. Yes, Tere knows. And she knows that he is her friend and she loves him, but he disappointed her (me decepciono) and he’s changed so much. She asks if she knows what he did last night. Espe hasn’t heard. Tere’s happy to tell. He was drunk and screaming in the vecindad, WORSE THAN CUTBERTO! Mariano esta mal, muy mal, Esperanza. Definitely another lie coming out soon… Espe can’t believe it. Tere invites her to coffee to talk about it further.

Oy, more Rubigote and Genoveva. She wants to know how he is going to get the money. He says not to worry. He’ll make her sign some papers that will basically be giving him the money. Then you’ll be committing double fraud, Gen says, como marido y como notario. But nothing will happen, she says. Because he is definitely going to make the money back.

Tere and Espe are walking, coffee in hand, talking about their men. Well, Tere’s former man. And Espe understands if she doesn’t want him anymore, then she won’t bring him up anymore. Tere is grateful. Espe notes how wonderful that Tere’s so good with Profe Arturo and she’s so good with Ruben. He wants to find another apartment for them both. Tere loves this bit of gossip, and tells her that she should look for the place that will be where they (RubEspe) can live together. Espe says, can you imagine if we could go to your wedding together! Nothing would make Tere happier, she swears, but better not say anything to Ruben, so he doesn’t feel pressured (para que no se siente presionado.)

Ay-ida and Gen are at lunch. Aida is afraid of what Tere could do—she’d do anything to bother Aida. Aida then does some lobbying to Gen that she shouldn’t give him his business all at once, do it little by little. Gen agrees. Anyway, Gen says she has ideas for the business to grow, not just in the DF but elsewhere in the country.

Rubigote and Espe meet in a parking lot. How romantic. She’s so excited they are looking for an apartment. Him, too. They kiss. Oh, but look at this creepster! A phone glides out from behind a column and there is a Tiburoncita attached to it with a big freakin’ smile. She gets a very clear photo of Espe and Ruben besando with only his bigote between them. Now she has Aida’s present completely, the fake divorce papers and the photo.

Johnny and Pati are walking and talking about her grandfather and their relationship. He stops to give her something. I think he makes a joke here, like a play one words. I have something pa’ ti, Pati, (like para ti, Pati.) He pulls out a bracelet and puts it one her. She loves it. He brings up how she said the other day that the only thing she needs to be happy in life is love. He asks if she really believes this. She says, claro. If her parents loved each other then they wouldn’t have had so many problems (no tendrian tantas brocas.)  (?--> no wonder I was confused. The youtube version cut out a few of her lines.) They really get along so badly? Johnny asks. Yeah, she says. For them, I'm just a reason that they can't get away from each other. He says he is sure her parents love each other. She says no, her mom told her that he's just her grandfather forced her to marry her dad. She is sad and they hug.

Back to the parking garage with Espe and Ruben. He basically says that they can’t buy another apartment because he needs the money for the divorce (and I think he says that the person who was going to buy the old apartment fell through.) It doesn’t matter. The divorce is what matters most. He gives her new keys to the old place because he changed the lock (chapa.) Te amos and kisses.

Tere sits at a table in a nice café. She looks up and is surprised to see Mariano with a bouquet of roses. M: Mi amor, we have to talk. T: I have nothing to say to you. What are you doing here? M: Would you prefer I went to Arturo’s house and asked for you? Next time I will. T: You’re crazy. I told you I don’t want to see you. M: I told you I wasn’t going to stop insisting until you came back to me. They stare at each other while their song swells in the background.

Johnny and Pati: he doesn’t want her to be sad. He asks what he can do to cheer her up. He starts naming things, including juggling and she laughs. Ah, see, he says, you are much prettier when you smile. He says he believes the same as her. Love is most important to make one happy. His parents are proof. Despite being poor and having a sick child, they are happy. This is what she has always wanted in life. Someone that loves (querer) her so so so much. He says he likes her so so so so so much. He takes her hand, and gives her a quick peck. She jumps a little and he says, you don’t like me at all, huh? She says of course she does, pero… she is embarrassed to tell him that she has never had a boyfriend. Well that’s what any 26 year old should suspect when he is dating a 14 year old girl. This time she gives him a peck, and they kiss a little more.

Tere and Mar at the café. T: forget it. I have no interest in returning to you, when you are going from bad to worse (vas de mal empeor.) The charade you pulled last night during my perdida de mano with your drunken wailing only disappointed me more. M: I know I did wrong and it will not happen again. I swear I will never get drunk again. But you need to beli—T: From you, I don’t need to believe anything, Mariano. And you need to be careful not to make problems with Arturo. M: I don’t care about the problems I might face, instead I have to react, Teresa. (?) It’s time to break this commitment. You and I could be happy. You just have to give a little on your part. T: I am not willing to do anything on my part (no estoy dispuesto poner nada de mi parte) because I don’t love/want you anymore, Mariano. Go. I don’t want to go with you. M: You’re going to regret all of this, Teresa. He kisses her on the cheek and leaves. She picks up the flowers and smells them sadly.

Johnny and Pati talk about all the things they have in common—liking music and movies, how lucky they found each other—and how they will go anywhere without her abuelo knowing. She says he thinks the school bus comes later than it does and that gives her some time. If her abuelo found out, Johnny could be out of work and he needs it. For her, he would be happy to be fired. More kissing.

Dario and Magda talk to Mar about why he was late and how he is so bad. He talks about wanting to kiss her and hug her when he saw her, he can’t let her go with someone else. Madga says he needs to forget Teresa. Since her mom was sick and she was here, she said she was going to make her future with el Lic. Yeah, yeah, he knows, Mar says, she calculated everything. And he’s out the door. Dar tells Magda he told her not to tell him that. Look how upset it made him. Mag looks like she might regret it.

Tere and the roses. She’s all sad and again, on a dime, wipes away the tear and puts on the angry face. Mesero, she calls. The waiter comes and asks if she wants the flowers put in water. Nope, she says. Take them and give them away, throw them away, she doesn’t care, she just doesn’t want to see them anymore. He takes them away and she wipes her tears with her napkin. Amiga! She says as Aurora walks up to the table. She is very happy to see her. They order some lemonade. Tere is happy to say that today, she will pay, flashing the credit card and saying Arturo gave it to her. Aurora congratulates her, el professor es—T cuts her off and says to call him Arturo. She mentions that it may take some work because he was her teacher and (really? El Lic was her teacher? In pre-med? Did I mishear?) Tere knows he is not young, but this doesn’t matter to you, right? Aur asks. Of course not. When you are in love, nothing matters. How quickly you sorted through your feelings, Aur says. Why do you say it in that tone of voice? You know very well, Aurora says, you have no doubts about the professor, since before you told me you had decided to marry him. Why didn’t you say anything to me?

Cancun: Thanks for walking me back, Luisa says. This ends the work day. Okay, and what time do you want me to come get you for the fashion show? Luisa, thanks but no thanks. You have someone to go with and I don’t want to disturb you. Please Luisa, Fer says, I told you that—I’m sorry Fernando, Luisa cuts him off, but I am going to work on the changes for the architect. See ya later. Fernando is disappointed and it looks like her door actually hits him as it closes.

Back to Tere and Aurora: (paraphrasing) T: I told you that I fell so quickly into love with Arturo. I happened so quickly. And right after we talked, I called you first thing. Before I told my mom about the great news. A: No, you didn’t call me. But, this isn’t important. T: What is really important is that you could be there last night in such an important moment. A: Are you sure about what you are doing? T: Totally. I’m in love with Arturo and I am feel happy that I am going to marry him. A: Then this is best. T: I will have it. I will have the best. A: I am happy for you. And for me, too, Teresa, because I want to tell you this face to face. Since you are going to marry someone else, I am going to fight for Mariano’s love. Teresa looks pissed.

We’re back with them. Tere flips out. No way. You can’t go for Mariano. Aurora’s like why not? You don’t love him anymore. Tere says that she’s mad that she obviously been lusting after him all this time, and as her friend she is saying she can’t try for him. Mariano will continue to be in love with Teresa. It’s better if you forget about him, Aurora. He’ll never consider you that way. She leaves Aurora upset at the table.

Aurora with her dad. He want to know who made her cry. She explains she talked to Teresa and she flipped out. She loves Teresa, but after the way she reacted, she doesn’t believe anything will be the same between them. He is an awesome Dad as usual and is practical and compassionate with what he says.

The driver and Reina tell Luisa they put her sewing machine in the guest room and by the window. She thanks them, says she will love it, and under her breath, especially without Cutberto bothering her. They ask what she said and she says, nada, gracias! They leave just as Teresa enters. She is super pissed. The girl that is supposed to be my best friend, told me outright (abiertemente) that she wants to go out with Mariano. Juana says that she left him for another man, and she can’t have both. Or do you still love Mariano? Teresa, tell me the truth. Are you in love with Mariano or Arturo? Because if you love Mariano I am not going to let you marry Arturo.

Aurora and her dad. A: I don’t know what to do, dad. I feel bad. The only thing I wanted was to be sincere with Teresa. Her dad says she had good intentions but she should wait a little longer. Take leave of being Mariano’s friend. A: That’s what I thought it would do. You know me, dad. I am not thoughtless, senseless (inconsciente). He knows she isn’t and he’s sorry she and Tere are fighting. But don’t forget that she hid her relationship with the profe from her and even less has proved to be the best friend. But Aurora says she thinks of her not just as a friend, or her only friend, but like a sister.

Teresa: Believe me, Madrina. I love Arturo without any doubts. Juana hopes this is true or wow is Tere going to suffer. She goes on about being angry with Aurora and Juana points out that she keeps saying she doesn’t care about him, yet she hasn’t stopped bringing him up. She continues to say Aurora has been purposely getting close to him, even before she knew her real feelings. That’s why she volunteers in the dispensario. Juana’s like, yeah, sure. What are you saying, Teresa. Only the truth! But, whatever, she asks madrina to ask reina if she can make her some tea. Madrina leaves. Then she puts on that song she’s always listening to and talks to the teddy bear. “I need to control my emotions. And not even this great big love I have for you, Mariano, is going to change my decision.” She looks at her ring.

Luisa calls her and she dances with her teddy bear over to the phone. T: “How’s it going with Fernando?” L: “I did what you told me.” She explains about renting the jeep to go see the construction site and Tere asks if they talked about the modela esa. Luisa says he tried to give her and explanation but she didn’t let him. And then he asked when he should come for Luisa for the fashion show. T: “But you aren’t going to go, right?” L: “No. I’m not going to go just to see them together in front of me. I would die of jealousy.” T: “You have to be firm. Don’t go for anything.” Luisa says she won’t. Tere says she needs to keep her place and not show that she is interested in him. Luisa goes on to say she feels so useless in front of him. When he looks at her, his eyes, his smile, she missed talking to him.. the way he smells… Teresa says she not to be sentimental. Luisa says she doesn’t think she’ll ever change, or she’ll never be able to not care when he is out with women.

Much later. Refugio is ragging on Armando about the money he gave her. She wants to know exactly who gave it to him. If you don’t—knock on the door. It’s Ramon, Mar’s dad. He want to talk to them because he feels badly about what Mariano did last night in the middle of her pedida de mano.

Cancun. There is a knock on Luisa’s hotel door. She thought it was room service, but unless Hunkasaurus is on the menu, her meal will be coming later. She said she forgot to eat because she was working. Notice again, she is walking backwards and he is following her. We can eat later, he says. He came for her for the fashion show. This boy doesn’t listen. Or is very persistent. F: Luisa, I want to go with you. L: Fernando, I said it’s better I not go. He looks over at her work and she explains it is a new proposal she’s working on, she’s just about done with it. Good, he says, then tries to explain what happened with Sasha. She cuts him off and says it is not necessary. F: Luisa, I go out with her but its not a serious relationship. L: Good. It was what it was and I hope you enjoy it a lot.  Look, this isn’t my world and I really am over it...(I think she says you, de verdad, paso. ?)  He takes a few steps to her and it looks like he might try to kiss her but instead he reaches down and looks at one of the papers she has been working on. He says, you know what, she’s missing some information that he has in his notes. He’ll go get them. She sort of looks around all dumbfounded and he uses the adjoining room door to go get them. He walks back in with the papers in his mouth, rolling up his sleeves. L: “What? You’re not going to the fashion show?” F: “Eh, if we finish on time.” He still has the paper in his mouth and moves her out of the spot she’s standing in so that he can sit in the chair and get to work. Dude, this guy knows he is hot and that she is attracted to him--I can see how he is so used to getting what he wants. She hesitates, but then goes to sit on the arm of the chair he is sitting in so she can see what he is typing on the computer. He looks back and gets close to her face but she moves back quickly, and he gets back to work… is he smiling? Oh, yes, big smile. Laughing almost.

Mariano walks into Hector the directors office and asks some lady (his secretary?) where the director is. She says he just went outside with his daughter… uh oh….

Ramon says he talked to Mariano very seriously and he won’t bother Teresa anymore. Ref thanks him, and says she understands about the way things are with Mar and Tere. They talk a little about Tere and Arturo, but basically come to the conclusion that no matter what they will all still be friends. Sure, but Ramon says he can’t look at Tere the same way. Ref says, well, she continues to see Mariano like a son.

Mariano runs outside and sees two people talking. Once he gets a closer look he sees Hector and Aurora talking. “Aurora is the daughter of the director of the hospital?”

Back to Cancun with Fernando and Luisa.  Fern says that this one door should be where it was in the original plans. Luisa disagrees. She thinks it should be here. Okay, he says, takes her pencil, and moves over to the plans to make a change. Okay then, the access point…[moves over] we can change… [moves over] it to…[he’s getting pretty close to her now] to here? She looks up and he is right up in her face. He gives her a quick peck, and she looks a bit stunned while he smiles, and then goes in for a real, slow kiss. Takes her a second to react, but she does and kisses him back.

Fin de part 1!!

Espisode 42: What’s it to you?!

We start just before he goes in for the kiss, and we see her slowly but surely kiss him back. I don’t know if he is a good guy yet, but I am happy for Luisa right now.

Magda appears out of nowhere, calling for Mariano. He shushes her and asks if she knew that Aurora was the director’s daughter. No, she says, she had no idea. Anyway, they got to run. An emergency with a patient and Ledesma wants Mariano to help.

Back to Cancun, Luisa comes up for air and immediately steps back, while saying, “No, no, no Fernando. This cannot be. Please leave.” F: “But… why? If we like—” L: “You have a girlfriend.” F: “She is not my novia.” (he’s supposed to be from Spain right? It’s easy to notice the difference between Luisa’s no‘b’ia and his no‘v’ia. Unless he is just emphasizing the word…) L: “Fine, you’re girlfriend or whatever she is… plus, we’re in my room.” He laughs at this. “I know that you are accustomed to other types of women, but I’m not (like that.)”  He says she is different and he loves that. She says, yeah because you like to be crude, right? He asks why she is so defensive with him. She says they are very different. He is accustomed to living in Europe where the European women are much more liberal. European sluts! Fernando’s response, everyone’s slutty these days. (Hoy en dia, en todas las parte de el mundo es igual.) She says she just isn’t that way. Understand me. Since she was a kid, she has been dreaming of the typical fairy tale (cuento de hadas), with prince charming (el principe azul), the wedding, having kids, learning together (educarnos juntos.) He says her dreams have nothing bad about them. It’s marvelous. She says, yeah, but, that’s just not the way the world works nowadays. They have relationships that could end at any moment for any reason. He looks like he wants to kiss her again, but she says no, Fernando. Please. Believe me. It is best. F: Luisa, at least, let’s go to… but she cuts him off and says por favor. He nodds and leaves. She takes a moment to touch her lips and take in what just went down.

Teresa is still holding her teddy bear and smelling the roses in her room. She sighs when she sees who is calling her, but answers, “What happened Luisa?” She’s like so excited and confused she’s jumping and pacing and says, “Teresa, Fernando kissed me!” “In front of his ex?” Tere asks.  “No, no, we were alone in my room,” Luisa says. “In your room?” Tere asks, as if she wasn’t just making out big time with El Profe ON her bed in her room. “And what else happened between you two, Luisa?” L: “Nothing… but… .I could have done everything with him.” Tere says something to the effect of, wow, you like him so much (?). Luisa says “me encanta, but also he makes her nervous/scared.” She says how much she likes him but she made him leave because she doesn’t want a relationship, just for a little while, then it’s over. Teresa says, this [was good of you to do.] You need to make clear your place/position. Luisa says that Fernando said he liked that she was different than all the other women he knows. But she is really worried. He’s a playboy, and she doesn’t want to just be one of his galanas. Teresa says, she told her. If she really wants Fernando, she needs to listen to her advice.

Ruben and Espe get out of the car. He is dropping her off, but can’t resist a kiss in the middle of the street. Her parents and Pablito walk up and her dad says “Buenas Noches!” Pab askes if that’s her bf. She says yes. Pab makes a big deal about his car and her mother is looking very warily at Ruben. Espe makes up that instead of him going to dinner, he will invite all of them out to eat. Good, her dad says, because he wants to talk with him. Her mom invites him to come in for coffee but he says he needs to go…he has a prior commitment…for work. But they will go to dinner.

Luisa on the phone with Arturo, while Teresa stands behind his chair. Luisa is saying not to worry, she is good. He says she sounds so serious, but she says she is just tired, that’s all. A: And how is Fernando treating you? L: Good.. good. A: He better be. Are you guys going out for dinner? L: No, I don’t think so. A model friend of his is here, or something, and I think from now on, we’ll only see each other for work stuff. A: Do you feel lonely? Aw, what a good big bro. L: A little. Really, I miss you a lot. A: I miss you, too, hermanita. L: “You don’t know how much I would like it if you and Teresa were here with me (No sabes como me gustaria que Teresa y tu estuvieran aqui conmigo.) But anyway, I send you guys many kisses, goodnight.” Art to Teresa: Poor Luisa, she misses us a lot. T: I imagine. I miss her, too. A: Have I told you that today you are more beautiful than ever? Hah, wow. She says that she likes that he likes her clothes and that she bought them for him. He says she looks so beautiful, he is going to ask her madrina permission to take her out, wherever she wants. Oh, she seems delighted with having to make this choice.

Oh, yup. Here we go with one of these moments! Luisa sadly walks over to the adjoining door to Fernando’s room. On his side, he does the same. He almost knocks, but decides not to. They lean against the door thinking about each other. He backs away first, but she stays.

Art and Tere out to dinner. Guess he got permission. He says he knows she loves him, but what is it she likes about him? What can’t she wait to be married to him? Her answer, listen closely Arturo!! “With you I feel safe, protected, and by your side I won’t lack anything. And never again suffer a humiliation.” Before he can blurt out, Oh how romantic! she kisses him—probably because this will make him forget what she said.

Aurora and Cutberto: Aurora: Poor Mariano. So then, he knows that el profe was asking for Teresa’s hand? *(but I thought she and Mar already talked about this. Editing mistake?) Curberto: Yes. And forgive me, I know you are friends with her, but what Teresa did is no good. A: I don’t think this is something we can judge, me or you. Cutb then says that what she has done has made him lose his Juanita, too. He goes on talking about how he is such a bruto, drinks tequila instead of wine, wants to talk better, etc. Then he says, “You can teach me!” Well, ladies and gents, fate just found Aurora in the form of a Bruto Cutberto. She agrees to teach him.

Juana is lying on the floor of the guest room listening to music when Reina comes in to ask if she is having dinner. You mean alone down there at that big table. Yes, Reina says. No, Juana says she is fine. And she thanks Reina for lending her her tape recorder. Apparently the song is about having green eyes, like Juana’s Reina says. Yeah, Juana says, a suitor sang this to me.. She is totally talking about Cutberto. Que romantico! says Reina. Yeah, the truth is, Juana misses him. They sit and sing together.

There is a knock at Luisa's door. She asks who it is and the voice says "Room serviiiiiice."
Luisa opens the door and in comes her food, with Fernando pushing the cart. “Here is your dinner for two. So sorry it was late, but it was at the last minutes that we were told there would be two hamburgers, rather than just one, with their own fries and salsas.” Smiles.

Teresa, Arturo says, I know that you are afraid to suffer more humiliations because of what you had to deal with in school and in the university, but that was the past. I want you to always remember that you are not alone. I will be at your side to support you and defend you. She thanks him for his comforting words. He talks of her valor, and how he meant what he said to her dad. He loves that about her. He finishes the scene by saying, you are simply marvelous.

Luisa to Fernando. I thought you would be at the fashion show. Fernando: No, he says as he smoothly pushes the cart of food away from them. He didn’t go because he realized he wanted to be here with her. He moves closer to her. She asks if he wants to go walk on the beach. He laughs. He says something like, why don’t we open the door so you can leave running the second I do something impertinent. She says, don’t worry. She won’t let him do anything like that. “I assure you.” (Te lo aseguro.) Don’t you worry, he says, I’m already knowing you more. She asks, and what you’re getting to know, do you like it? He moves closer. Yes, he says, a lot. And before the night is over, they are going to have to talk about what happened between them. She sighs. Or, are you going to pretend that nothing happened, he asks. You’re right, she says, but I don’t want us to talk here. Can we go somewhere else? He nods.

Mariano blows into the clinic and Aurora is there. She is happy he’s here, everything is ready… she notices he is upset. What happened? –Why didn’t you tell me you were the daughter of the director of the hospital? –Mariano, don’t be mad. –Why didn’t you tell me? –Why does this matter to you? (Eso que mas da?) –I thought we were friends, that there was trust between us. And you never told me your father is? –Please, Mariano, this doesn’t matter. –It matters to me Aurora! It matters a lot. Because now I am asking if all this support I got from the director, his school, is for him or because he is her friend. –Mariano, of course my dad helped you for YOU. For the value of you work, your proposals.-Now I’m not so sure. –What you are doing with all this is a very good idea. That’s the only thing that matters. –No, of course not. You know that I hate playing favorites and I don’t want to succeed for favors and relationships like Teresa. This was Teresa’s idea, right? –Why do you care? (Eso que mas da, again.) –Answer me Aurora. She told you not to tell me? ….with your silence you tell me everything. She told you not to. –And now I understand. You are too proud, Mariano. –What else did she tell you to do? What else? To ask you dad to help and to help me so that I learn faster? –And if that was what happened, what? You wouldn’t continue with the dispensario to help those who need it? (I think she might be making a point here that this is his vecindad helping his neighbors??) This is nothing bad, the opposite. -This is different Aurora, very different. –No. No, it’s not different. What is wrong with helping someone who deserves it and has talent and who offers a lot, Mariano? –Whatever, I have the right to know to decide if I should stay here or go to a different hospital. –You’re exaggerating, Mariano. –Aurora, thank you for your support, but I don’t want it. I don’t need it. She leaves crying and he is steaming mad. Well, they may not be a couple but there is definitely enough intensity between them for a fight like that. You don’t bother to have a fight like that with someone unless you care about them on some level.

Cancun, Luisa and Fernando are out by the pool. He wants her to give him a chance, but she says she doubts he can change so radically to be what she needs. He says he understands that she has doubts, him being a playboy and all, but he hopes she will give him a chance. She asks if he is serious or it it if just another one of his seduction tactics. He swears he has never been more sincere. It’s clear they like each other but she asks him a favor. Please don’t hurt her. If he thinks he can change, she will try, but if not, she asks him not to play with her.

Aurora is telling her dad how furious Mariano was. He says it’s ridiculous. He would have backed the dispensario no matter what. I know, dad I know, she says, but he was so mad he wouldn’t listen to reason. Mariano is prouder than I thought, Hector says. The worst part is, he realized it was all Teresa’s idea. Well then why was he demanding/complaining to you? Hector asks. (Good question, Hector.) She says it was because he was so mad that she hid something so important from him. He’s so mad at me that he said he doesn’t want my help. Dad asks, and what are you going to do? Leave the clinic? She doesn’t have to work with anyone who will treats her badly.

Next morning. Espe goes into the clinic to give Mariano the latest hours from the priest regarding Pab’s first communion. Mariano hopes he is excited. Espe says he is counting down the days. She brings up his and Tere’s break up and says she feels in the middle because she loves them both so much. She knows that what happened between them won’t be remedied and she wants him to move forward. He is trying. She says, yeah, its not easy, but little by little. What’s more, before you believe it you’ll have a new love.

Juana is leaning on the desk where Tere is typing away. Juana asks what she is doing. She says she is opening a new email account. Juana has no clue what she is talking about. Juana walks out and Tere is trying to think of what her fake name will be…Lolita Perez. It’s time for Aida to pay.

Ruben is on the phone saying he needs to make an appointment with Arturo de la Barrera, when Aida walks in and says they see each other a lot. Rube says they have lots of work to do together. Then she says she went to the apartment he gave her and the key didn’t open the door. You went? Why? Rube asks. To show Paulo, she is not thrilled about the idea that the might live in his mom’s house. Rubie believes this is best, and to not ignore what Genoveva gives them. He says he didn’t think she really even liked the apartment. That’s true, but it’s a lot better than Paulo’s casa. Then he says he will find another property here or in Cuernavaca for them to have but she wants to choose which one. Sure, he says. She is just so happy. Her wedding is going to be awesome, and it’s going to be the boda of the year! (You sure about that one, Aida? Cause I think that the big bad Arturo and his little tiburoncita are going to make a bigger splash…) It will be, says el bigote, he’s sure of it. She leaves for school.

Back to Espe and Mariano in the clinic. She talks about both his and Tere’s helping her with the whole Rubigote thing. He asks how goes the divorce. She says it may take a while and he thinks his wife wants a lot of money but he is willing to pay whatever to be free so he can marry her! (Oy, Espe take off those blinders!) Mar is happy for her. He knows the situation isn’t the best, but he hopes that she is happy. Ruben met her parents and invited them all to eat today. Oh joy, I get to recap that scene? She leaves him.

Aurora comes in and he is immediately mean. -What are you doing here, Aurora? –I am committed to helping with this project and I am not going to quit that for you.

At the university. Aida is reading her email and Tere and Juana walk up behind her. Juana is commenting on how nice the school is and how she would love to be able to study somewhere like that. Tere walks up and says that since they always fight she thought she would write her an email instead. Aida says, good. You know I don’t talk to gatas. Tere says the circumstances could change a lot, Aida. And she could end up eating her words. Tere and Juana leave. Juana goes to the restroom, while Tere watches Aida open the email she sent her this morning with the photo of her dad and Espe makin’ out! Aida is impactada.

Ivonne asks what Tere said in her email. Aida says she didn’t open it, but shows Ivonne the photo. Ivonne, being the genius we all know she must be, says oh, that’s your dad… but that’s not your mom! She gets up to comfort a distraught Aida. Tere is practically pole dancing with the column she’s so happy… ooh… future employment once all her lies are uncovered?

Espe calls Rubigote and they talk about meeting at the restaurant at three. Johnny walks in and Espe asks him to help her convince Dad to like them. He agrees. He tells her happily that he is now officially a sex offender—I mean is going out with Pati.

Juana and Tere are walking and talking. Juana says she misses Cutbert—eh, the vecindad mucho. Tere says she understands, and then something about seeing her mother. Tere’s phone rings and it is Luisa. Teresa asks how everything went. Luisa isn’t sure. She’s about to meet with Fernando and she feels very insecure. Tere says this is the worst she can do. She needs to appear very secure. Teresa tells her she needs to dominate her emotions. Luisa doesn’t think she can. Tere says she needs to, or she will suffer. Luisa asks Tere what will she do if Fernando says no?

Aida and Ivonne. Ivonne tells her not to cry. These days anybody can do anything with a photo. It’s probably fake. Aida says no, it’s from a cell phone, it’s real… clearly. The apartment, everything he deceived us all. Me, my mom. Ivonne asks, what apartment? Nothing, never mind. All of Ivonne’s efforts to calm her down are for naught and Aida flees to go talk to her dad, almost leaving her computer on the table.

Quick scene with Paulo and the receptionist of Rubigote. He asked her to get a bunch of papers pertaining to his wife and they are a lot. Paulo offers to help.

Aurora is helping a little boy with a small burn. As he leaves mar tells him not to be so close to the stove when his mom is cooking. Aida says if he doesn’t need her help, why doesn’t he fire her? Cause she she was ready to quit. Why didn’t you? He asks. Because, she says, my commitment isn’t with you. It’s first with Dr. Ledesma who invited me to help; secondly, to all the volunteers she said she would help; and thirdly, for everyone who needs medical help but can’t pay. Aurora, Mar says, I want to know the truth. Why did you come to the clinic? For you, Mariano, I did it for you. What do you mean you did it for me? She says he opened her eyes to how great being a doctor can be and now she loves it. Fine, he says, if you want to work, then take these to the director. He needs to sign these. Can you take care of that? With pleasure, she says. She is sure her dad will sign if everything is correct. She said she won't come back without his signature on the paper and she is off.

Tere is annoyed that Rubi’s secretary, Eva, I think her name is, is taking too long to find what she needs. She finds them and Tere apologizes for not being able to come get them earlier. Paulo walks up and they have the usual talk about Aida. She wants to reconcile with Aida, she says. He says admit it, you’re jealous we’re getting married. And that it will be a great big boda. And that Arturo will be our witness. Well, she says, this is why I want to reconcile with her. I wouldn’t want there to be problems with my future husband. Que? Paulo asks. Oh, she says, you didn’t know that I am getting married to Arturo de la Barrera? Paulo is impactado as she flashes her ring in his face.

Luisa and Fernando sit down to presumably breakfast? Well, she wastes no time. What did you decide about us? Uh oh, he looks concerned.

Paulo asks when her ambicion will have enough. She says that the sky is the limit. She can’t believe she wasted so much time on someone as insignificant as Paulo. And how important was this taxista? He didn’t have money, but is worth a thousand times what you are. He asks why she didn’t marry the taxista and she goes on saying soon he will be way more important than Paulo. Plus, how can he criticize her when he is only marrying so that he can get his mom’s money to pay for his vices. He says he loves Aida. She laughs and asks who he is trying to fool? He says he doesn’t love Aida like he loved Teresa, but he loves her, but you don’t love Arturo.  She says, oh why wouldn’t I? He’s smart, brilliant, respected, has a ton of money; the difference between them both is enormous. And after a year, when you’re bored and you want to go out to the club, what? Are you going to get him out of his library? She says that she isn’t interested in club; she wants to learn, be cultured. She insults him a little more and says, see you at your wedding. She leaves but stops when she runs into Aida. She says she wants to talk to Aida, but Aida says no, and Tere shrugs it off and leaves. Paulo stops her before she goes into his office, not just to ask her what’s up but also to say her dad isn’t there.

Espe’s whole family is taking in their ritzy surroundings just when Ruben shows up. He says he wanted to tell them all that he loves their daughter. Her mother stands up and says when’s the wedding!? Espe is like, woah, mom, slow your roll. Then her dad is like, why are you defending him. He’s no spring chicken. Espe is embarrassed. Ruben says, yeah I’m a man. She’s a woman. And we love each other. And I hope you guys accept our relationship. Yes, Espe says, that’s why we’re here. And of course we’re going to get married mom. Pedro says but you can understand why it is difficult for us to see her with someone who has already lived! Has a child! Yes, I understand, says Ruben, and I like that you worry so much about your daughter. Believe me that she understands perfectly my circumstances. She says she does. And he is so happy that she accepts him the way he is. The waiter comes and Ruben orders. I think we are all uncomfortable watching as he and Espe are sitting there, as the poor people see the expensive prices on the menu, etc.

Fernando is talking to Luisa. F: I didn’t sleep last night thinking about you. Luisa, you are incredible. And very different than all the girls I know, but…(Ugh, but. Her face falls.) He doesn’t know if he is ready to change his life, to commit to something to serious. How funny, she says, I was going to say it would be better if we just forgot everything that happened. (Wow, she’s taking Tere’s advice well about controlling her emotions.) We can’t pretend it was something so serious, it was just one kiss. She wants to give him back the gift her gave her and she takes the red necklace she wore as a bracelet and handed it to him. He thinks she is overdoing it. No, believe me, no she says. You and Arturo love each other like brothers and I wouldn’t want to be a reason you two fight. He says this has nothing to do what what happened, (I believe.) Plus, she says, she knows he won’t change. And the truth is she doesn’t querer him. She exhales, gives a small smile, and walks away, leaving him pensive. (See, if she wanted to be, she could be an even better (or worse) manipulator that Terror because she actually can control her emotions.)

Oy, the Espefamily and Ruben dinner is getting more awkward. The food comes and the kids are pissed that they have to have chicken, then never get to eat steak, and when Rube suggests a toast, they don’t hear or ignore him because they are too focused on the food. Johnny asks why his daughter didn’t come. Lucky for Rubigote his phone rings. (It is Aida coming and she is super pissed! Paulo keeps asking her what is up.) He shuts his phone off. What if it’s work? Pedro asks. Ruben doesn’t want anyone to disturb him.

Aida is again super mad she can’t get a hold of him. When Paulo asks why again, she shows him the photo. Eugh, he says, your dad with another woman. Don’t cry mi amor. What we need to do now is worry about your mom. Does she know? No, Aida says, I got the photo from someone on the internet. Who sent it, he asks. She doesn’t know, some Perez woman, which is weird because she doesn’t know anyone named Perez. Then it dawns on her, she remembers Tere giving her a hard time at school earlier. Of course, she says, of course it was her. It was Teresa. She throws a fit and Paulo tries to comfort her. When he says to calm down, she escalates, calm down!? How can I calm down??!? She then says, you don’t understand. If you deceive me, if you are unfaithful, I will kill you. Kill-you. Paulo looks a little worried.

Cancun. Luisa walks on the beach. Oh, can I go to the beach? It looks so nice there. Well, not nice for her. She is remembering what Fernando said. And can I just say, even though she didn’t want to hear it, I found his honesty refreshing. Tere answers her phone. Hey, Luisa, how did it go with Fernando? –It was awful (Fue fatal.) Did you say what we wanted, that you are also very regretful (I think she means to say she is regretful that she kissed him.) –No, I said that I didn’t believe he could change either.. –You need to maintain your pride and tell him that he doesn’t interest you at all.-Before I said that, I would have cried in front of him. –You need to control yourself. When you work with him, you need to act more dignified. Don’t let him know what you love him. –That’s impossible. –You need to be careful or you’ll be without a boyfriend and without a job. –A job isn’t important to me. -And your dignity, what? She turns around and sees Mariano walking toward her and tells Luisa to think about it and they will talk later, Adios. Mariano: You’re a manipulator Teresa. Why didn’t you tell me before? Teresa: What are you talking about? Mar: You know very well I hate favoritism and you went behind my back to tell Aurora’s dad to help me. She makes a pouty face at him.

Back to the most awkward meal of the century. Pablito asks Ruben if he is working this Saturday. He laughs and says, no he was going to take Esperanza out early on Saturday. Pab says she can’t. It is his first communion, and then Pab invites him to it. After some hesitation he agrees to go and Espe raises her glass and says cheers.

Tere: Ah, look. You and Aurora are closer than ever. You tell each other everything. Mar: She didn’t tell me. Tere: And what does it matter to you? (Que mas da, again.) It was to help you with school. Mar: I don’t need your help. My work I do for me. Tere: This is what made her want to do it. She did it because she loved him. You just don’t realize. Mar: Oh really. If you love me so much, why don’t you leave Arturo and come back to me. Tere: Understand, you lost me just because you don’t know how to take advantage of your opportunities. Mar: Like you are taking advantage of Arturo? Like that? Tere: He loves me and I am happy. Mar: Tell me something, Teresa, did you also plan this to dupe, fool, tirck, bamboozle (embaucar) you boss? Tere: Think what you want, Mariano. It’s too bad you didn’t take my advice, to become ‘somebody’ more quickly because this is the difference between you and me. Que entre ser y no ser, yo soy. And with that she flounces out.

Aida is wringing out her hands waiting for her dad. Hola princesa, he calls as he walks in. She is very serious with him says they need to talk. Okay, go ahead., he says. I want us to talk about your mistress (amante, lover), she says. Que? I explained to you that there is no one more than your mother. Oh yes? Well this photo, she says, says the opposite. She shows him the photo and we end on Rubigote Impactada.

Fin de part two!

Avances: Teresa in a wedding dress. Mariano punching someone else. Aida learns about the wedding. Aurora sees Mariano kiss Teresa.

As always, correct me if I was wrong on anything and please excuse any grammar mistakes. Also, my apologies for being extraordinarily inconsistent with the format in which I wrote the conversations. I was all over the place on that--I just haven't figured out which way I like best...

Triunfo del Amor #104 5/4/11

Last night’s leftovers:
Burnie can’t believe the conditions the baby is living in. She thinks God has given her another opportunity to make up for PJP’s sins. She wants the baby. Maria tells her she won’t let her take the baby.

Tonight’s fresh helping of crap:
Os is in the hospital. He can’t believe Leonela has returned.

Gui and Leonela. He can't believe Osvaldo kept such a big secret. She says it doesn't matter. He's been eliminated for good. Gui never forgot her. He never found anyone to take her place.

Max and Os. A doctor thinks is Xi unfit to take care of Osguito. Max doesn't want to, but he's going to fight for custody. Os tells him not to feel guilty.

Gui and Leonela stick their tongues down each other’s throats. FF>>!!! Oh my eyes!

Suddenly, after 20 something years, Max wants to talk about his verdadera madre, Leonela (Leonela Leonela.) Os says she was wonderful blah blah. Max decides now to question why there are no reminders of her in the house not even photos. All he has the  a picture on her tomb. He goes there sometimes to pray.Os tells him, your mother is Victoria. Victoria is your mother. Forget Leonela Montenegro.

Gui and Leonela.... Hark! there is a knock at the door. Ha! It’s Xi and she wants in! He tells her to beat it and slams the door in her face. Xi is left screaming on the doorstep as Gui returns his attentions to Leonela. She asks did he really never stop loving her? What would he do for her? Anything she asks. He is her slave. He is at her feet. She tells him to kiss her. *blech*

Fer thanks the chicos for bringing her home. Cruz grabs his book on milk cows and tells Fab about how Fer is helping him study. Fab asks Fer for confirmation. She says she is helping Cruz study, but begs off for tonight ‘cause she is tired and stressed about Daddy Os. Cruz and Fab have a pissin’ contest that puts Fer to sleep. The both try to get their gifts in the most advantageous spot. They leave. Ha! Fer was faking! She takes the rose and the candy. Oh men! She sighs.

Burnie is with Alacrán. Soon she will have a job for him. He has to go with Padilla to get rid of someone who has dared to challenge her. Alacrán says he’s her guy. Fausto has heard the entire exchange and wonders to himself if it’s possible that Burnie is going to try to attack Maria again.

The new and improved Nati (well, looks wise…she’s still into JuanJo which makes her dumb as a brick in my book) is railing against Dona Dementa and her wish to take the child. She also throws a shout out to Vic and her wanting to buy the baby. Maria says she doesn’t need either of the two women. She’s going to make it on her own (very Mary Tyler Moore.) Alonso enters and gives Maria her check from Lovely cosmetics. ¡Híjole! WOW!!! That’s a lot of smackers! (We don’t actually see the amount, but from the way Nati and Lonso are acting it must be a lot.) Maria talks about being about to provide for JP-ito and ridding herself of Vic and Dona Dementa. Alonso asks about love (love love love.) Maria tries to explain again that they won't be together. A little I don't catch, but Lonso is pretty sure they are going to be together. (Wow. What nerve.)

Cruz and Fab have continued their petty quarrel to the vecindad. Dude, you’re jealous! Dude! I am not! Napo comes along and tells them to put on their big boy pants and to hell with their “gentleman’s agreement.” They agree. It is on like Donkey Kong. (Napo also says to hell with Fer, so the two of them can get going with their noviazgo...courtship...har har.) Napo walks off singing “Florecita” to himself…pretty much on key.

At the hospital, Os confirms to PJP that is was Leonela that tried to kill him. After so many years, a ghost appeared. Padre wonders how she could have gotten out of jail. Os doesn’t know. He fears for his family. PJP tells him he has to tell the authorities who tried to kill him. Os, in true TN fashion, gives some lame-ass reason why he can’t…the scandal and all. Os thinks maybe he can convince her to leave them in peace. PJP asks if he will succeed. Os says with Leonela Montenegra, one never knows anything. PJP tries to convince Os to tell Max the truth. He reminds Os that this woman went to jail for killing her lover. He needs to protect Max. PJP goes on to say that one runs the risk of losing their children when they hide things from them (how well PJP knows!)

The doctors take credit for the celestial miracle and Max and Vic celebrate Os’ resurrection. The doctors assure Vic that Sr. Sandoval is going to be fine. They leave. Vic heaves a huge sigh of relief. Max asks if it hurt her that she thought Os was dead (I’m winging the translation here. Having some comprehension issues this evening.) Vic says more than he can imagine. Max asks if she is going to forgive Os. Vic doesn’t know. Part of her says yes, but another part is still hurting. Recapper’s rant: Look, chick. He almost….no.. DID DIE!!! Didn’t that get through your thick skull? After that you are still whining about the Linda thing? Max tells her to put her pride to one side and be happy with Os.

Clouds roll past (That's TN code for "some time has passed")

Leonela is chillin' like a villain at Gui's pad. She is watching the news. Os is out of danger. Leonela is not too pleased. She says he may have survived this time...but next time no. This she promises him!

JuanJo plays coach. FF>>

Luci comes into a bed room in her skimpy jammies looking for something. she squats down to look in a bedside dresser. Meanwhile, Fab walk in in his skivvies. Embarrassment and conversation about drawer space. FF>> (PS: looks like it's official Nati with JuanJo and Fab with Luci.)

Nati is pouring out a bucket of water and sloshes JuanJo. JuanJo says he's been thinking about her a lot. (Well, that seals it. Nati with JuanJo.) I'm pretty sure he asks for an opportunity to see what could happen and Nati accepts.

Vic is about to visit Os in the hospital. Leonela is there and bumps into her. Vic spills coffee. Leonela asks her pardon. Vic says it's ok and makes a joke about being in the right place if there is an accident. Leonela laughs. Vic asks if the lady has someone at the hospital. Leonela says not exactly. She's just here asking about the health of an old friend. Vic asks how he is and Leonela says he's doing better. Leonela asks why Vic is there. Vic explains about Os (and calls him her marido...guess she forgot the "ex" part.) Leonela hopes he has a quick recovery. Vic says he will recover because Osvaldo is very strong. Leonela is impactada. Osvaldo? she says. Yes, says Vic, Osvaldo Sandoval. (Mi marido es Osvaldo Sandoval...es Osvaldo Sandoval)

Max and Maria sittin' on the couch k-i-s-s-i-n-g. They take a break to talk about Osvaldo. He's going to be fine, thank God. Love talk and smoochies. Can't wait 'til the divorce is done and they can be happy forever (41 episodes to go, children.) Maria thinks the time is very near that they will be together forever. More smoochies....that last forever. sheeesh.

Vic has noted Leonela's impactada demeanor and asks about it. "Well of course my expression changed" says out newest nutcase, "Osvaldo is a pretty big deal, isn't he?" Leonela excuses herself. Vic hopes her friend  gets better. After Leonela makes her exit Vic thinks so herself  "What a strange woman!"

Max and Maria are laughing. I guess we missed the joke. Max loves the way she smiles. He hates to leave, but he has to. Maria says not to worry, she understands...and in a complete non sequitor moment she says she found her father only to lose him again. Max is confused...you know who your dad is? Maria says the man himself told me. Max can't believe PJP finally told her. Maria is impactada and she asks "you knew he was my father?" Max has that classic "oh, crap whatdidIdoijustscrewedup?" look that men get when they realize they are in deep mierda.

Burnie is 'fessing up to trying to buy baby Maria all those years ago. Vic didn't go for it. PJP is horrified that Burnie would try to take JP-ito from Maria. Burnie says the baby is an Iturbide and shouldn't live in such a dirty place. PJP says she can't keep living with the hatred that has caused so much pain. Doesn't she realize she is going to have to repent. One day it will be to late and they will never forgive her. Burnie doesn't want or need Vic's forgivness. Vic awakened in her this relentless rage that dominates her and won't leave for even a second. Vic dared to touch PJP... who was the most sacred... she sullied his mouth, his body with her kisses and caresses...and she can't stand that image. (ewwww. Why is she even thinking about it? I am really grossed out right now. Doña has hit new heights of Dementa. Even PJP is discomforted) But, that's why Burnie ran over her. PJP is impactado. Say wha? Yeah, says Burnie. I hit her. I was the one that cause the accident that made Vic lose your daughter. She isn't sorry either. (a tu hija a tu hija...did Meh-jía get a new echo machine? We've been treated to a lot of echoes the last couple of weeks.)

Maria and the inevitable flip out. How did you find out he was my dad? Max says he told me himself. Maria asks why he stayed quiet? Why didn't he tell her? He promised PJP. He didn't have the right to tell. Maria says he was obligated to tell her and that he betrayed her. Max says stuff (?) Maria is tired of all the secrets that people are keeping. Max asks what she would have done in his place. Maria says I don't know over and over. PJP has disappeared from her life. Max says not to think that way. How can she be so unfair? He was the kind of dad she wanted. He took care of her and protected her. (Had a little trouble with this dialogue.)

PJP is really upset. He's pulling out his rosary. Burnie has been excommunicated and if she doesn't repent, she's going to burn in the fires of hell (oh please oh please oh please....) Burnie doens't want him to talk to her about flames or hell anymore. She tells him to leave. She has nothing to repent for. She is an avenger of God (with a big cross to prove it. I think I read in the latest issue of People en español that the cross is actually Daniela Romo's...not a prop.) PJP tells her this can't go on. She's crossing a line! Burnie tells him that she is not a sinner. God will reward her for her actions. PJP looks truly pained and leaves.

Maria says Max doesn't understand. She always blamed her mother for abandoning her and now she knows  she didn't matter to either of them. Max thinks she should find out what really happened before she judges them. She thinks the truth is very clear. They abandoned her to avoid a scandal. Max wonders why Maria is holding a grudge. He knows her life was rough wondering why her parents abandoned her, but this is not like her. She asks what he would do if he'd been deceived all his life? (hmmm, methinks we will get to find out.) She says she's been deceived by her own dad. She asks what he would do if he discovered he'd been decieved by his dad. Would he forgive him? Max says he doesn't know. They hug.

PJP is talking to Padre Jer, but for a brief moment he looked like he was having a run of the mill convo with the cross that burns ...well, I thought it was funny. Ok I'll shut up.

Soo, PJP is talking to Padre Jer. Maria was hard on him and her words destroyed his heart. Padre Jer tells him Maria had a hard knock life. Don't blame her. PJP doesn't blame her. Maria thinks he abandoned her; that he convinced her mother to give her up to avoid the scandal.  But he never even knew she existed! Padre Jer counsels that PJP talk to Maria. Clear everthing up! Talk to her patiently and sweetly. He's sure Maria Desamparada (chug *hic*) will listen. She's a good girl and she needs PJP. Padre Jer says talk to her with your heart.

Maria is shopping for furniture with Nati. She says she opened a savings account in JP-ito's name. FF>>

Oscar is letting Xi know she has to give Osguito back and hands her a copy of the court order. She and Rox say no one is taking away her cash cow hijo. Xi flips when she reads the "she's irresponsible and not mentally fit" part. Xi says Max is coward and an infeliz (loosely translated: bastard) Oscar says that Max had nothing to do with it. It was the nurses that worked at the Casa Sandoval that testified to that. Xi has 12 hours to return the baby. Oscar leaves. Mama Rox says it's a court order. There is nothing Xi can do. Xi says oh yes there is...she can leave the country! Burnie sneaks up from behind and says Xi won't do that. Xi will hand the baby over. Burnie tells Xi not to act like she loves the child. No one believes it. At the end of the day, she thinks the  baby just gets in the way. That's why Xi  is going to return the baby...on Burnie's conditions. Burnie tells her Xi will call Max and tell him what she (Burnie) tells her to say.

Padilla and Gui are waiting outside. I'm confused. I miss most of it. Something about Burnie needing it for her vengeful plan? Gui says something about robbing a truck...does he mean the Sandoval truck? I thought Leonela stole that? Or is it a different truck? (I think this is more likely) Something is up, though. I'm sure of it.

Max is on the phone with Xi. He doesn't understand mumbledy mumbledy with his son. Xi says those are his conditions. He accepts them or she leaves the country with the baby and he'll never see him. She hangs up.

Cue the kayak.

Avances:

  • Padre begs!
  • Vic forgives?
  • Max is trapped!

Teresa Tue 5/3/11 #39 Tere Trades Up; #40 El Boracho y el Galán

Capitulo 39 – Tere Trades Up

I’ll begin with Teresa’s PDA w/Arturo. Mariano is very angry and starts to go into his SuperMariano act but Aurora holds him back and reminds him Tere is no longer his girlfriend. Tere finally pulls away from Arturo before anyone else can see them and Juana walks up lugging all her belongings with her. Tere looks a little embarrassed.

Aurora takes Mariano for a walk so he can calm down. Mariano is very angry and doesn’t understand why Tere did this. He accuses Aurora of knowing about Tere’s relationship with Arturo a long time ago. Aurora denies this and tells him again he needs to calm down; he’s only making things worse. Mariano is beating himself up, saying he just knew this was going to happen. What’s wrong with Tere, she doesn’t love Arturo. She’s just doing this for the money, status, ambition. Aurora doesn’t want him to talk that way of Teresa. She understands Teresa’s ambition but she’s just not that way. Mariano assures her he knows differently and he’s making it his mission to show Tere the error of her ways and find her way back to him. Aurora is not happy to hear this.

Refugio and Armando are talking about the way she and Tere have been quarreling. Refugio felt that after Rosita’s death, she and Tere would be closer. Armando is sure the three of them will be reunited and become a family again. Refugio’s not so sure now that Tere has gone to live with that licenciado instead of marrying Mariano. Armando says enough with the subject of Mariano already (ya dale con Mariano, y parale) She needs to accept the fact that Tere is not going to return to Mariano or to this house.

Juana, Tere and Arturo arrive at Casa de la Barrera. Arturo, ever el galán, welcomes Juana to his home. Juana is agog at the sight of Teresa’s room. Teresa: “Check out the bath.” That’s funny, that’s the first thing I check out at a fancy hotel.

Fito meets Paulo in a restroom. Paulo is desperate, he needs something. Fito reminds him the of last time they met. Paulo said he would no longer need anything. So sorry, didn’t bring anything with him. Fito watches as Paulo paces back and forth chuckling he’s got it bad. Paulo explains he has an important dinner this evening. If he shows up like this, they’ll think he doesn’t want to get married. Fito – “So you’re really clavado (nailed) or what?” Paulo responds no but it’ll be advantageous---for both Fito and him. Fito just doesn’t know if he can help him out. He’s gonna make him suffer.

Ooooh, Aurora visits Tere and coldly pushes her away when Tere greets her. Aurora confronts her about two timing Mariano with Arturo. Tere denies having anything to do with Arturo. Aurora knows she’s lying and lays it on her that they saw them kissing. Ruh-roh!

Rubigote is meeting with Arturo asking his advice on the Cancún property. He wants Art to take charge of the contracts as there’s a lot of money involved. They toast to the business venture (Arturo with a cup of coffee, Rubigote with a drink). Art asks about Espe. Rube is confident he’s found a way to appease her and keep her. With this business venture he’s also found a way to get more money in the event he needs to get a divorce. It’s important Maira not find out about the business venture. Art wonders how much longer he’s going to continue lying.

Jaws theme: Tere asks if Mariano saw her kissing Arturo. Aurora tells her they both did. She doesn’t understand what’s going on. She’s supposedly Tere’s BFF but she keeps things from her and lies to her. Well, girlfriend have a seat cuz here come some more whoppers: She’s very confused. She had already split with Mariano when Arturo told her of his love for her and then he kissed her. She has every right to try it out, doesn’t she? He even spoke to her parents! Aurora feels it’s moving too fast and asks if Tere likes Art. Tere’s very confused and doesn’t know what to do. What about Mariano? Does she still care for him or not. Tere is very upset and says Mariano disappointed her. She’s always admired el Profe and likes him very much. He tells her what she feels is love also. She asks Aurora for advice. What oh what should she do? She so confused. Aurora is at a loss for words. She can’t believe what Tere’s done. Tere says that kiss pulled the rug out from under her. Hasn’t this ever happened to Aurora? Having to choose between two loves? It’s horrible having to make a choice between two people and at the same time not wanting to hurt either one. Yeah, I’m feeling so sorry for her. Aurora suggests she aclarar tus sentimientos (spell out her feelings) because Mariano really loves her and suffering. If she doesn’t love him, let him go.

Cancún: Fernando is surprised Luisa isn’t eager to go to a fashion show, even for a little bit. She tries to talk business. He proposes a toast to the success of their project.

Juana is taking a bubble bath. Tere tells Juana he spoke with her mother regarding his feelings. Not only that but today, he kissed her! Wow, she’s covering all her bases, acting as if this is the first kiss. Juana’s shocked and insists they leave this house immediately! Tere says she enjoyed the kiss. She didn’t think of Mariano at all. Juana agrees he’s handsome (understatement) although he’s not a young as Mariano. Comparing Art with Mar, she notes he’s not impulsive, he’s mature, and she likes that. With Arturo she can have everything she’s ever wanted, including love. Juana’s all bug-eyed impactada. Hmpf, wonder what she would’ve done if she knew about the kissing on the bed.

Chavez home: Armando is sad about what happened between Mariano and Tere. Even so, Mariano shouldn’t have hit el licenciado. Mariano agrees but he couldn’t control himself. He doesn’t want to hear anything about forgetting about Teresa. He still loves her. Armando assures him he and Refugio still care very much for him. Mariano is thankful and will continue to take care of Refugio. He also refuses to give up on Tere while he believes there is still a chance to win her over.

Restaurant: While waiting for the others to arrive, Rubigote is telling Geno to give him some time to get the money together, it’s mucho milliones (1 million pesos = just short of 87,000 dollars). She wonders how he’s gonna get that out of Maira without her finding out about it. Aida, Paulo, and Maira show up. Aida has to signal Bebé to pull out her chair. They all sit and Paulo gets right down to business, stammering that he wishes to marry Aida. Champaign flows and everyone applauds with Rubigote wishing them a long life as a couple just like he and Maira. Ugh, ¡que hipócrita! Paulo looks as though he’d rather be stuck by killer bees.

Cancún: Luisa tells Fernando about Arturo’s happiness with Tere. What about Fer? He hasn’t found the woman of his dreams. He’s always wanted to get married, have children. She can’t believe he hasn’t found the right woman. She’s seen him in magazines with many beautiful, famous women. He asks what she’s looking for in a man. She confesses she’s been waiting for man to find her. She feels many men are turned off by a working woman. He says he’d like to find someone like that. She says that although she’s a working woman, she’s also a very traditional woman. She’d like to marry for life and have a few children. He toasts that she find the man of her dreams and she toasts he find the ideal woman.

Restaurant: As parents of the bride, Ruben offers to pay for the wedding and Geno offers to pay for the honeymoon. Paulo is looking really miserable. Aida says they’d like to go somewhere super exotico. Geno suggests they get on it quickly, there’s not much time. Paulo snaps and tells mom he and Aida will decide. He tries to catch himself and asks isn’t that the right way? Too late, everyone is very tense. Ruben offers to give them an apartment (thought he’d already done this) that will be in Aida’s name, of course. As Paulo continues working, he can later buy her a house. Geno jumps in saying they need a house right away and announces they should live with her after they get married so they can have a proper house with a garden. After all, they’ll be having children very soon. Aida winces.

At dinner, Arturo graciously thanks Juana for accepting his invitation to stay in his house. Juana makes it a point to speak with her mouth full – I guess to show her lack of manners – and pointedly asks him how much older is he than Tere? Tere is embarrassed saying it doesn’t matter to her. Arturo completely ignores the subject and invites Juana to join them for breakfast as part of the family. Juana seems pleased he already thinks of her as family. As such, he’s grateful to be able to speak candidly and tells her he loves Teresa and wants to marry her. Through a mouthful of food, Juana exclaims that if she had known this before she would never have allowed Teresa to continue living under the same roof with him. He assures her he respects Teresa and Teresa tells her there will be no hanky panky until they are married (paraphrasing).

Late night shot of Teresa in bed. Camera pans to her door and a man walks in barefoot and climbs into bed next to her. She turns and it’s MARIANO! What is he doing here? He couldn’t go on without her. She’s worried someone will come in. He shushes her and starts to take off his shirt (ay papi). Their theme song plays as they embrace and start smooching. Suddenly the music stops and Tere wakes up. She turns and…….caramba! It’s only Juana. Bummer. She whispers, “Mariano!”

Chavez home: Armando is still suspicious of Arturo’s intentions. Refugio lays it on him that Arturo plans to marry her and even showed her the ring. Mariano is distressed (poor baby). Refugio’s very sorry because she knows Teresa loves only him.

Cancún: Hottie Fernando is shirtless (swoon) on the beach. He’s on the phone with Arturo, telling him Luisa’s working really hard, hardly the girl he knew before. He’s very comfortable with her. He sees now that Arturo’s raised her in a very traditional manner. She’s muy buena onda (cool). Arturo is happy to hear they’re getting along so well. He also asks Fer to check out the luxury homes Ruben is investing in. They hang up and Fernando starts jogging along the beach and runs into Luisa, who is also out jogging. Wow, another mutual interest. They continue jogging together.

Juana and Teresa arrive at the vecindad in a chauffeur driven car and run into Mariano. Juana makes a hasty retreat to leave them alone to talk. Mariano starts right in, accusing Teresa of having planned it all along. He was worried that ese tipo was seducing her when all along she was playing both of them. Teresa insists she wasn’t involved with el profe until after she broke up with Mariano (well, technically she’s being truthful). She never cheated on him. Mariano isn’t buying it. How is it that Arturo is ready to marry her so quickly? Does she think he’s stupid? Or what? He’s finally come to understand her duplicity, but in the end she will never be happy. Tere assures him she’ll be happy. Mariano literally gets in her face and asks her to look him in the eye and tell him she won’t be thinking of him when she’s with that tipo (boy hit that nail on the head, didn’t he?). Tearfully he asks if she won’t remember their kisses, their caresses. He swears his undying love for her and that this love will never, nunca, allow her to be happy within anyone else. (so poetic) His tears are flowing now and he walks away from her, leaving her stunned. She wipes away a tear, takes a deep breath and walks into the vecindad.

Inside Juana’s apartment, Cutie-berto jumps out from behind a screen and surprises her. He explains he was able to get in because in her hurry she forgot to lock her door. He’s been watching over her things and watering the plants. Juana asks what under what right? He responds by saying el derecho del amor (by the right of love – corny but cute). Juana responds nonchalantly that it must be for the love of the plants. She tells him she doesn’t miss him and describes the huge home she’s in, the rooms, the Jacuzzis, etc. She refuses his advances – again. Aw, c’mon Juana, give it up already!

The garage: Patricia comes to see Johnny. Funny exchange where he tells her he thought her skirts are supposed to be dos dedos (2 fingers) above her knees but now he sees it’s now dos manos (2 hands)! They talk about grump grandpa and how strict he is. He forced his daughter into a loveless marriage but Patricia has other plans and wants to marry only for love.

The clinic: Aurora continues to console Mariano telling him love is forever. He agrees but for Teresa love isn’t enough. Aurora wishes she could do more for him…for both of them but feels her back is to the wall. He knows she and Tere are BFFs and would understand if Aurora were to leave the clinic behind. Aurora says no way, te aprecio mucho (you’re very dear to me) and wants to remain near him. He appreciates their friendship too. She’s turned into a dear friend for him. I sooooo want to see them end up together. Unfortunately, we are always attracted to the unattainable, sigh.

Tere walks into her old room and is actually sad. She sees the teddy bear that is still in the wastebasket. She picks up teddy and says she’ll never be able to forget Mariano as long as she continues to see him but she can’t! Tearfully she says she needs to resolve this now!
Caceres home: Maira thought Paulo was very nervous at dinner. Aida dismisses it due to the stress of asking for her hand in marriage. They go on to talk about making plans for the wedding, church, invitations, etc.

Refugio walks into Tere’s room and notices she’s hugging the teddy bear. She asks if she wants to take it. After all, Mariano gave it to her. Tere gets all upset, complaining the first thing Mom always talks about is Mariano. She throws poor teddy back in the wastebasket. Enter Juana. Tere says she only came by to see how mamá was feeling and now has other things to do. She rushes off. Refugio goes into her woe-is-me stare and acknowledges Tere doesn’t want to see her or hear what she has to say. Juana rescues Teddy and talks about what a nice guy Arturo seems to be. Refugio accuses her of going over to the dark side. Juana disagrees saying she feels Arturo is decent and will make a good husband for Tere. Refugio isn’t giving in saying Juana was supposed to be chaperoning Tere and instead she’s fallen submissively (caída rendida) into his charms. Juana promises she’s doing her duty as chaperone going so far as sleeping with Teresa instead of using the guest room (recámara de huespedes)

Garage: Patricia comes back from school. Johnny’s all goo-goo eyes. Patricia runs past him to hug grumpy grandpa. He gets rid of Johnny. She tells GG about the ex-mechanic coming to help Johnny thinking this would help Armando get his job back. She underestimated the extreme grumposity of GG and he snarls he’s gonna fire Johnny seeing as he can’t get the job done on his own.

Casa de la Barrera: Tere arrives telling Arturo she couldn’t wait to see him and they share a yummy kiss. She can no longer be away from him. Arturo likes that she’s stealing kisses while her madrina isn’t around. She no longer wants to hide their love. She asks that he help her finish her thesis. Instead of a graduation party, she wants a wedding. Music to his ears.

Espe meets Rubigote at an outdoor café. He tells her his daughter is getting married and this will be one less roadblock to their happiness. Espe tells him her father is so stubborn. Since Ruben didn’t make it to dinner, he now wants Ruben to come by and pick her up at home on their next date. Ruben will think about it. Did she come to a decision about their own apartment? She says yes, it’s a good idea that they begin keeping house together. Interesting note: in the background you see another table with a couple --a much older man with a very young woman in an intimate conversation. Just saying.

Casa de la Barrera: Arturo asks why the sudden change? Tere pouts she thought he’d be happy. Oh, he’s happy and out comes the engagement ring. Little does he know this is like “chum” to our little tiburoncita. He says something about this not being your conventional love story. She agrees and says after so many years of hidden love (amor contenido) it’s time they live their love openly. They kiss and as he’s hugging her she can’t keep from eyeballing that rock on her finger and then she thought bubbles, “que tonto”. Ay, que mala.

Arturo and Teresa call Luisa to give her the news or their plans to marry as soon as Tere graduates. They want her to save the date.

Patricia’s getting scolded by grumpy grandpa. He’s misunderstood her. Instead of firing Johnny, he should fire that other guy who showed up late making it necessary for Johnny to get help from the other guy who used to work there. Grumpy is suspicious about her interest in Johnny. Whatever, yawn.

Juana arrives at Casa de la Barrera. Tere tells her they’ve just had another kiss. OMG Juana says. This is becoming a pattern. If she only knew. Teresa tells her there’s more. She’s discovered she’s in love with him. Not only that but he’s asked her to marry him and shows her the ring. Now that’s an engagement ring, not like the one Mariano gave her. Juana asks if she’s sure this is what she wants. Tere explains she’s noticed all the differences between Arturo and Mariano. Mariano was the just the fantasy of first love. Arturo is a much more mature love. “This,” she says as she’s putting the ring back on her finger, “is what I’ve always wanted.”

Patricia is waiting for Johnny and asks him to forgive her for blurting out that someone helped him fix a car. No worry. There are advantages to getting fired, the chief one being that she will no longer be the boss’ granddaughter.

Casa Alcazar: Aurora tells Dad Teresa seems to be very confused and it’s sad because Mariano seems to be suffering so much. Dad doesn’t want her to get her hopes up. She knows and she’s sacado de onda (out of it/conflicted). She’s also perplexed that Teresa had never mentioned anything about el Profe. Dad agrees and more so since Tere and Mariano were already planning to marry.

Garage: Johnny arrives all cheerful and old grumpus tells him they need to have a serious talk.

Country mouse/city mouse: Tere and Juana are at one of the nicest restaurants in the city: Juana is shocked at the prices on the menu. Tere can’t help but show off and orders dinner for 6: lobster, shrimp, escargot. Juana asks if she’s planning to feed the whole vecindad. Tere seems embarrassed then tells the waiter she’s done ordering. As she’s explaining what escargot is, Aida walks up and starts in. If she knew Teresa wanted to wash dishes for her supper, she could have come to Aida’s home. Teresa says no need, she’s ordering dinner to celebrate something very special. Aida says she’s celebrating too and shows Tere her ring announcing Paulo has proposed. Tere checks out the ring and wonders if it’s the one Paulo gave her – no, it’s much smaller. What a coincidence, she’s getting married too. She raises her hand to show off her engagement ring.

The Clinic. Arturo shows up to tell Mariano they need to talk about Teresa.

=========================================================

Capitulo 40: El Boracho y el Galán

Mariano has nothing to say to him. Arturo insists. Mariano takes off his tie and offers to take it outside. Arturo says only animals come to an agreement through fighting (a golpes) Mariano just doesn’t see what they have to talk about, it’s clear she chose Arturo. Although it’s clear she didn’t do so for love. Arturo understand they’ll never agree on that subject but proposes that they accept her decision and stop the problem between them. Mariano says that’s easy to say when you’re the chosen one. Arturo assures him he would feel the same if the tables were turned. Mariano doubts that. He tells Arturo to validate why she chose him because in reality, she still loves Mariano.

Back at the restaurant, Aida just doesn’t know when to quit, calling Teresa’s nice little detalle (gift) from her beloved taxista a cheap copy. By the way, where is he? Oh, she forgot, Teresa only uses him to get to and from the university. She uses him just like she uses everyone, just as she used Paulo. Juana wants to know what she’s talking about. Teresa explains that Aida’s engaged to a man that is still in love with Teresa. Furthermore, Paulo has told her that he plans to be wed for 1, maybe 2 years, until he’s able to get some money out of his mother. Then he’ll come looking for Teresa. Aida is speechless and makes a quick retreat. Teresa just shrugs and chuckles. Juana joins in. She seems so proud of her little goddaughter.

The Garage: Grumpous Grandpa asks if it’s true Johnny asked for help. Johnny tells him to fire him if he wants to but he had to get Armando’s help or the job wouldn’t have have been completed because Ezekiel’s been gone since noon. He hadn’t said anything cuz he didn’t want to be a chismozo. Grumpy says he won’t fire him and when Ezekiel does show up, he’s gonna throw him out, patitas a la calle (literally little paws on the street). He grudgingly tells Johnny to post the Mechanic Wanted sign.

Back at the Pleito de los Papazos: Arturo says it’s Mariano’s tough luck if he doesn’t want to believe Teresa’s in love with Arturo. Mariano must understand he no longer has a chance with her. Mariano says that remains to be seen. Arturo realizes Mariano has worked hard and is an overall nice guy. But that’s no reason for Teresa to fall in love with him. Mariano says she’s loved him since childhood. Arturo grabs him by the collar and says that’s over, that was years ago and now he and Teresa are going to wed. Mariano refuses to believe it. Arturo says she’s already accepted and he plans to ask for her hand. Mariano is still not ready to believe it. It’s a done deal (es un hecho) says Arturo. He warns Mariano not to come near her because the next time he won’t be so prudent. We finally see some action from our guy Arturo. Oooh, so manly!

Juana asks Tere if it’s true Paulo told her that. Of course! Teresa can’t help if Paulo fell so loco in love with her. If she awakens such attention from men, what’s a tiburoncita to do? Juana then says she better be careful. Arturo is a much older man and they have their jealousies. He’s not going to let her continue to dress that way. Uh, Juana, check out your own dress. There’s quite a bit of cleavage there sister. Tere’s not worried. Juana tells her the age difference may not feel so great now. Give it about 20 years and she’ll see. Tere can’t live in the future. Look at Rosita, dead at 15. At least she realized her dreams. And Tere plans to do the same with Arturo.

Aida and Ivonne at an ice cream shop. Tere gave Aida a lot to think about. She’s wondering if Paulo really said that to Teresa about marrying her only until his mother suelta la lana (slang: release the money) . She just can’t believe he’s like that. Ivonne tells her she’s thinking exactly the way Teresa wants her to: que dudes (doubt) reclames a Paulo (ask him for an explanation) and either one ending in an argument that could cancel the wedding. Why give her the satisfaction? Besides once they graduate, they never have to see her again. Aida wonders aloud if that mugrosa is really engaged. Ivonne picks up her phone saying she knows someone who would know all the details.

Arturo enters the Chavez house and finds Refugio there alone. He wants to talk. He explains he came by to make sure she and Armando will be there tonight to receive them. Refugio says of course, this is still Tere’s home and hopes someday for her return. Arturo explains that’s precisely why he’s come by. He and Tere are coming by to make it official. Official? Refugio asks. Yes, to talk about their wedding. Oh no, mamá Refugio goes into her Fred Sanford act and grabs her chest. If she says “I’m coming Rosita” I’ll scream.

Mariano’s in his clinic and is upset. He’s frustrated and starts throwing things around. Magda and Dario come in just then. He tells them Arturo came by to tell him he’s marrying Tere. He can’t accept it. Tere loves him and only him! Magda places a comforting arm around him.

Arturo asks Refugio if she’s ok. How can she be ok with that news? He offers to go for a doctor. She refuses saying she’s not ill. She doesn’t feel well because of the relationship between him and her daughter. She sees he didn’t listen to her and has decided to precipitar todo (rush everything). Arturo tells her they love each other and don’t want to wait any longer. He’s also told Mariano who didn’t take it well and is still convinced he can reconcile with Tere. Arturo hopes Mariano understands that’s not going to happen. He also hopes Refugio will give him the opportunity to show he will be a good husband for Tere. Well, if they’ve decided there’s nothing she can do about it. She only hopes they don’t live to regret it. She wonders where Teresa is. He tells her she didn’t want to burden her with making dinner and is out getting dinner for this evening. They agree to meet at 8:30 tonight. Alone, she wonders aloud why Teresa is doing this. She prays that Teresa will listen to her.

Juana and Tere are in a shop buying yarn for her mom so she’ll see she’s always thinking of her. Luisa calls her. She’s just had a massage and is getting ready to go out with Fernando. She tells her of the fashion show they’re planning to attend. Tere instructs to her to accept if Fer offers to buy her a dress from the show and then ask him to take her somewhere to show it off. She tells Juana that was her future sis-in-law and points out she won’t have in-laws, just Luisa and they get along great. Juana thinks it’s great she won’t have to put up with a mother-in-law. Although Luisa does live in the house, says Teresa. She explains that if Luisa were to marry quickly that would leave her and Arturo with that caserón (big house) all to themselves.

Back at Juana’s house, Juana sadly comments that Tere will leave them all behind in the vecindad. Tere plans to take Juana with her after she has children so she can care for them. And her parents? No, they won’t be living with her since they’ve never accepted Arturo. But she says she’ll buy them a place close by.

Arturo is talking to Fernando about Ruben’s project. Fer confirms it’s in a great beachfront location, well worth the money invested. Arturo tells him of his wedding plans. Fernando playfully asks if he’s sure he wants to echarse la soga al cuello (put the noose around his neck) for his whole life? Arturo replies of course and that he wants Fer to be his testigo (witness/best man?)

Mariano arrives at Juana’s where Teresa is getting ready. He asks if it’s true she’s decided to marry ese. She’s accepted and today he plans to speak with her parents. He urgently tells her she can’t marry another when she loves him. He reaches for her, she resists, but they share a long kiss. She finally breaks away telling him there is no longer nothing between them. They still share a love he says. Yes, she confirms, but when hunger comes in the door, love goes out the window. [Hmm reminds of the Money song from Cabaret.] Love isn’t enough for her. He knows everything she wants and he can’t give it to her. He pleads with her maybe not now but between the two of them, they can have a better life. They have to try. And lose the opportunity she has today? Fuhget about it! She ain’t gonna do it! He continues to try and kiss her. She continues to resist and finally breaks away again and kicks him out. ¡Largate! (scram!) or I’ll scream! Our hero finally gets the point and leaves as their theme song plays.

Cancún: Fer and Luisa at dinner. They talk about the pending wedding in 2 weeks (!) he’s going to be the testigo and she the madrina (I’m sure this is equal to best man and maid of honor). They toast to the happy couple – that their love be forever (ahem).

The clinic: Mariano is sad, Dar and Mag are trying unsuccessfully to console him. Dar says she’ll come around. Mag wants to stick around but Dar pulls her away.

Everyone arrives at the Chavez house. Teresa gives mom her bag o’ yarn. Mom says that wasn’t necessary. Arturo again explains he would’ve preferred to take them all out to dinner but understands Refugio isn’t up to it. She agrees and then sarcastically points out Arturo and Teresa couldn’t wait any longer. [ok, I’m really starting to dislike this woman] Juana says oh c’mon Refugio, Teresa’s getting married on us. Arturo says it’s important to Teresa they have their blessing. Armando explains it’s just that Refugio is worried about her and he asks if Tere is certain about her decision. Tere asks how can she not be when beside Arturo, she’s happier than she’s ever been.

Restaurant: Aida, Ivonne, and Aurora. Aida tells Aurora she wanted to see her to tell her she’s marrying Paulo and wants her to come to the wedding. Aurora’s happy for her but doesn’t think she’ll be coming to the wedding. Ivonne tries to convince her saying she’ll need help planning her bachelorette party. Aurora offers to pass on phone numbers but……Aida breaks in saying Aurora probably can’t help because she’s helping with Teresa’s boda. Aurora is surprised at this news. Aida digs deeper surprised that she didn’t know her BFF is getting married. Aida is assuming it’s the taxista although she doubts he could afford the ring unless it’s a fake. They try to get the info out of Aurora who has caught on they only want to pump her for information. She gets up to live and Aida just can’t let it go. She suggests that if Tere kept news of her betrothal from her, what else has she kept from her?

Chavez home: Refugio is giving Teresa and Arturo marriage advice. A marriage isn’t just the wedding, it’s a lifelong commitment, honoring each other, yadda, yadda. Arturo agrees with Refugio’s views on marriage. Armando chimes in saying Tere is the light of his eyes. They’re poor people but they’ve raised her well. She has her ways (Tere doesn’t roll her eyes but I know she wanted to) but she’s a sensible girl. What can he say, she’s is daughter. He adores her and wants her to be happy. Arturo responds in kind saying he wants the same for Tere. He promises to take care of her and also wants to take care of them, if they’ll let him. Armando smiles and Refugio still has a sourpuss look on her face. She’s just not buying it.

Cancún: Luisa and Fernando are getting up from their table when Luisa’s earring gets caught in her hair. He starts to help her by brushing her hair back getting very close and going in for a kiss when darn it! Some blonde cha-cha in a very short dress comes up and greets Fernando with a kiss, calling him “mi amor”. Mind you, he doesn’t resist (jerk) and Luisa is impactada. It turns out she’s a model in tomorrow’s fashion show. He introduces Luisa as someone who is working on his project. The cha-cha says, “oh, she’s your employee.” Luisa corrects her saying in addition to collaborating with Fernando, she has a name: Luisa de la Barrera and shoots daggers at Fernando. Good for her! She wishes them good night and calls Fernando “jefe”. Fernando is duh, what just happened here? The cha-cha then invites him over to join her and her friends. Bad move, Fer.

Chavez home: Teresa’s making small talk about the food asking everyone to join in. Refugly starts in on the subject of Arturo helping them. They couldn’t possible accept his help. Arturo didn’t mean to offend, they’re going to be family. Armando agrees but Refugly sticks to her guns and says they don’t need help. They may live humbly but within their means and they don’t need his help. Alright so it’s ok take money from all the neighbors who really can’t afford it, but it’s not ok to take help from her son-in-law? Well that just put the big ol’ freeze on the celebration. Teresa tries to break the ice by suggesting they all dig in and Arturo gamely starts to fill Juana’s plate with escargot saying there’s nothing better than dining with those you care for. Juana offers a toast to the novios wishing them the best and the ability to overcome whatever disagreements they face. Juana goes to the kitchen and Refugly gets up to help her reminding Arturo that in this house they have no wineglasses. Armando takes the opportunity that his rude wife is away to offer his apologies to Arturo saying his wife is very proud. Arturo is gracious and understands. He says those are the values passed on to Teresa and one of many reasons he loves her. Teresa: not as much as I love you, mi amor. (yuk).

In the kitchen, Refugly is loudly whispering to Juana complaining she sent her to chaperone Teresa and the next day she comes home to tell them she’s marrying that man. Juana counters with Teresa is happy with El Licenciado. She should be happy for her. NO! says Refugly. Teresa is going about things the wrong way. She just broke up with Mariano and now she’s with another man? Juana says Tere broke up with Mariano because she had doubts. El Licenciado is a nice man, why can’t Refugio see him in a different light? She starts listing his qualities: handsome, educated, etc Everything a mother would want for her daughter. NO! Again Negative Nellie (Refugio) disagrees. What a mother wants is for a man who will make her daughter happy. And that man is not that Licendiado.

Cancún: Luisa returns to her room, sobbing. Aww. She calls Tere crying. Tere leaves the room so Arturo can’t hear her conversation. Luisa tells her about the scene at the bar. Teresa reminds her she has no claim to him, there’s nothing between them. Luisa agrees but she felt so bad. Teresa feels this is because she likes him. Luisa says she was so sure there was something happening between them. Not only did she get her hopes up (ilusionar), she fell in love with him. Now what’s she to do after behaving to ridiculously in front of Fernando. Teresa advises her not to see him today, especially because she’s crying. He’s sure to seek her out and if he does, she needs to avoid him. Above all, she must remain dignified. She needs to calm down and they’ll talk later because at this very moment Arturo is asking for Tere’s hand. Luisa asks Tere not to say anything of this to Arturo. He’ll kill her if he finds out she fell in love with his best friend. Tere says they’ll talk later and turns to go back to her parents’ depa.

Before she can get there, she runs into Cutberto who assumes correctly his Juanita must be with her. She forbids him to go anywhere near her parents’ depa because at this very moment “estan pidiendo a mi mano” Cutberto is very happy and assumes she’s reconciled with Mariano. She corrects him and announces she’s marrying el Licenciado de la Barrera. She leaves Cutberto mouth-open impactado.

Cancún: Fernando is trying to go back to his room and the cha-cha is very clingy and isn’t letting go that easy. Is he so concerned about his empleada? He corrects her, saying Luisa is his best friend’s sister. She finally relents and tells him he knows where to find her. (paraphrasing)

Mariano alone in his clinic: Cutberto el chismoso comes in assuming Mariano has already heard the news. Mariano acknowledges ese infeliz is asking for her hand when she loves only me. What he needs is for Tere to tell el profe in front of him if she really loves him (el profe). She wouldn’t be able to do that. He’s sure of it. Cutberto reminds him Tere broke up with him and on top of that she’s in her mother’s home and mother’s not well. Mariano is in agreement that he can’t armar un escándalo (cause a scandal) due to Doña Refugio’s health. But ganas no me faltan (not for lack of wanting).

Casa Chavez: Aurora comes in apologizing for the interruption. Armando tells her of the celebration. Aurora looks at Teresa: “so it’s true, you’re getting married.” Teresa is momentarily at a loss for words. Arturo stands there sheepishly. Juana looks up with fork in mid-air.

Clinica: Cutberto brings out a bottle and two shot glasses. Mariano just can’t give up on Teresa. Cutberto advises him to face facts (darte cuenta). If she and you were dating and now she’s marrying another, seems that te estaba jugando chueco (playing dishonest with you) ¿qué no? Mariano gives him a pitiful look. Cutberto tries to cheer him on. ¿Somos hombres ó ratones? (are we mice or men) We need to aguantarnos como machos (take it like men). Y para eso sirven ellas, las más bellas, las botellas. (and for that we need the most beautiful ones, the bottles) ok, it loses a lot in the translation but I loved it. Let the drink fest begin.

Casa Chavez: Tere recovers. Didn’t Aurora get her message? She left a message at her home and the news was too important to leave on a voice mail. Aurora is clearly angry and says this is all such a surprise. Tere wants her to be happy for them and announces Luisa and she will be her madrinas. Aurora congratulates Arturo while Tere goes to the kitchen to fetch another glass and plate.

Clínica: bottle is now half empty and our little buddies are half zonked. Cutberto is going on about Tere taking his Juanita with her. Mariano is realizing that while he thought their relationship was secure, he thought el profe was an infeliz. He was wrong. Arturo truly loves her and that minimizes his chances to win her back.

Casa Chavez: Armando toasts to their love, wishing them a love as strong as his and Refugio’s. He wants el Licenciado to know he adores his wife and she is such a good woman that she has forgiven him many errors. Juana asks what church they’re planning for the wedding. Tere drops a bombshell. They’re planning on a civil ceremony for now with the religious ceremony to follow later. In Telenovelandia that leaves the door open for Mariano, right? Refugio predictably blows up. Tere shoots dagger+poisoned-arrow eyes at mama. Refugio tells Arturo they’re Catholic and the sacrament of marriage is very important to them. Tere agrees and says that’s why they want to prepare for the sacrament calmly and at a later date. Juana offers to make both wedding dresses. Aurora excuses herself. Tere’s not ready for her to go yet. Aurora looks uncomfortable.

Clinic: Oh boy. Mariano’s el stinko now. He announces he’s going to talk with Tere now. When Cutberto asks why, “Because she loves me”, says Mariano.

Cancún: Luisa is crying. Fernando is at the door, knocking. She doesn’t answer. He calls her. She lets it go to VoiceMail.

Oh no – Mariano is drunk and stumbling through the vecindad, yelling for everyone to hear: “Teresa, you can’t get married, you still love me. You can’t marry another. I know you can hear me.” Inside, everyone is scrambling for the window and Teresa is looking for some hole to hide in. Mariano continues his drunken rant: “Remember Cuernavaca. You’re mine, Teresa.” Refugio and Armando turn to look accusingly at Tere. She pleads with her father to go out and talk to Mariano before Arturo comes back. They’ll kill each other. (I assume he left to walk Aurora to her car). Refugio asks for a clarification, what does he mean by Cuernavaca and saying she’s his. Tere just points out the obvious. He’s drunk and doesn’t know what he’s talking about. She’s so embarrassed, this is getting really bad.

Out on the street, Aurora is telling Arturo she’s still surprised by the news. Arturo goes on and on about how Teresa was so confused and that they both knew this was forbidden love, yadda yadda, but then they finally came the realization they loved each other. He’s assuming she knew it all, being the BFF.

Back at the apt: Refugio is chasing after Tere asking her what is going on. Tere points out it’s Mariano that is causing the scandal. Refugio insists she and Mariano are in love and were at the point of getting married. Tere accuses her mother of defending a drunk and she doesn’t even know everything that went on between them. (uh-oh I see another lie coming). Juana steps in asking Refugio to see how low Mariano has come. We can hear Mariano screaming outside throughout this whole conversation. We now see Armando trying to calm him down. As he’s trying to lead him downstairs, Mariano continues his rant. El licenciado stole Teresa from him. He starts calling Arturo out. He is really drunk. Johnny walks up and Armando enlists his help. Johnny finally drags him away and just in time. Arturo walks up. Armando takes this opportunity to assure Arturo Refugio will eventually come to accept him. Arturo is very understanding. He will be patient although he knows she would have preferred Mariano. Armando says Mariano esta muy mal and apologizes for his wife.

Refugio still doesn’t understand what Mariano meant by Cuernavaca. Juana thinks she’ll never be able to understand the rantings of a drunk. Teresa comes back in saying Arturo is coming back and hopes he didn’t hear anything. Arturo and Armando walk in just then and Tere asks her dad, “everything ok?” Armando responds everything’s fine. Teresa decides now’s a good time to say their goodbyes. She dutifully kisses moms and pops goodbye. Refugio asks her to reconsider a church wedding. Arturo thanks them for a memorable evening. He don’t know the half of it! He assures pops he’ll take good care of their daughter.

Armando feels sorry for Mariano but he plans to have a heart to heart with him when he’s sober. He needs to come to grips with the situation. Refugio just hopes Tere will be happy with el licenciado but something, something in her heart tells her this is not to be.

Casa de la Barrera: Arturo shows Tere the lazo used in his parents’ wedding. (a lazo is usually a long rosary used during a Catholic wedding that is arranged around the couple as a symbol binding them together – I’ve only seen this in Mexican weddings, not sure if it’s used in other cultures). He then tells her they will be wed by the church on the same day as the civil ceremony. He feels this is important as it unites them until death. Well, that just shuts the door on Mariano. She later tells Juana but doesn’t look too happy about it. She notices the teddy bear on the bed. Juana brought it because she knows how attached she was to it.

Aurora is in her room looking at a photo of her with Tere. Daddy walks in. He confirms there were no messages left for her at the house. She then tells him of Tere’s pending marriage with Arturo. Daddy’s surprised. They talk about how strange it is that Teresa never shared her feelings regarding Arturo. She just doesn’t understand it and her feelings are hurt. She feels Teresa had been fooling everyone all along. Dad says lealtad (loyalty) in friendship is as important as fidelidad (fidelity) in a couple. He finds it strange that Tere didn’t take her into her confidence. Whatever, Mariano is free now. They can’t reconcile now that Tere is marrying another. Aurora agrees and says she’s free now to fight for his love.

As we leave Telenovelandia, Tere is holding the teddy, thinking of that day at the fair when she and Mariano were so happy.

Triunfo del Amor #103 5/3/11 A Night of Miracles and Madness; and the Blast was from the Past.

Reprise:
Padre Juan Pablo warns Bernarda that if she won’t tell María Desamparada the truth, he will oblige someone else to come forward – someone who knows all about Bernarda’s crimes. And Bernarda will spend the rest of her life in prison. Padre Jerónimo appears at the door at that very moment and Bernarda fixes him with a look of intense hatred.

Tonight – What a night!
Back in the familiar hospital waiting room where the Sandoval clan have wept over Fer and little Osvaldo and fretted over Linda and Ximena, they are now huddled in misery while Osvaldo's fate hangs in the balance.

The doctors have bad news for the family. Hemorrhagic shock has left his heart severely damaged. He is in intensive care but his survival is uncertain. Only the closest family members can see him – Fer, Max… Victoria steps forward. I’m his wife, she says.

In the vecindad, Alonso fawns and comforts and blathers to his ‘ternura’ and tells her to look on the bright side of PJP’s revelation. She did get what she most wanted – now she knows who her parents are. María corrects him: JP refused to tell her who her mother is.

Osvaldo’s condition has worsened. The doctors appear with a tragic announcement: El señor Sandoval is dying. The family can go in to say their goodbyes.

Nati is with María and little Juan Pablo in the vecindad. María has just declared that she never wants to see PJP again – not him or his mother (and his little dog too, if he had one!) when a knock sounds at the door. It’s doña Bernarda! Aren’t you going to hug your grandma? she asks pleasantly, if delusionally.

La familia Sandoval – Max, Fer and Victoria – gather at Osvaldo’s bedside. A monitor alarm sounds. Sufrió un infarto! (He had a heart attack!) The medical team calls for a crash cart and as the horrified family huddles in a corner of the room and watches, the doctor shocks Os again and again and again. But Osvaldo doesn’t respond and the line on the monitor is flat. The doctor speaks the words they have been dreading:
El sr Sandoval acaba de fallecer. (Mr. Sandoval has just died.)

Victoria calls his name over and over: You can’t leave me with this terrible guilt, she says. She takes his hand, kisses his brow and then steps back to allow Fer and Max say their farewells.

Back in the barrio, Nati takes the baby into the bedroom so María and the Demented One can talk. María isn’t intimidated or overwhelmed by Bernarda anymore and she gives it to her between the eyes. You may be my father’s mother, says María, and you may be my son’s godmother (though the CarayCaray theologians are disputing this point!), but by withholding the truth about my parents, you gave up your right to be a grandmother. You knew your son seduced my mother!

To the contrary, rants Demente. It was your whoring mother who seduced my son. He was a pure soul until she dragged him into her abyss of fornication!

Cállate, says María, but Demente is on a roll and won’t shut up. María’s mother was a sinner, María is the fruit of sin and is herself a sinner. QED.

¡No! ¡No! ¡No! ¡No es cierto! cries María angrily.

And in the hospital, the doctor draws the sheet over Osvaldo’s face.

But wait…something is happening here… Osvaldo is knocking on heaven’s door…

We see a tranquil white-shirted Osvaldo in a field of white clouds. We hear a baby crying. And then Osvaldo’s voice: ¡mis nietos!

Now there are images of Max and Fer and we hear Osvaldo again: My children need me!

There is Victoria’s image too and she is begging him not to die, not to leave her alone.

Finally we hear Osvaldo himself pleading with God to let him see his family – his children, Victoria, his grandchildren. Then comes his joyful shout: Gracias Dios!

He gasps and sits up throwing the sheet off his face and asks his family: Why are you crying? They tell him: You were dead!

He explains to them: The children brought him back to life!

Celestial reprieves notwithstanding, there’s still plenty of evil afoot. And now we’re back on the dark side. We see Osvaldo’s black camioneta pull up to Guillermo’s retreat. A knock at the door pulls him away from his cognac and his Beethoven. He starts to open the door, then quickly tries to close it again. But his visitor pushes hard enough to enter and knock him down. Leonela! he says in astonishment.

Osvaldo describes his near-death experience, how he felt he was in a tunnel, hearing celestial music and was moving towards a light, longing to reach the light. And then the music was mixed with an infant’s cry – his grandsons! And he knew he still had a mission on earth – to look out for them. He couldn’t leave his family alone in their moment of need.

The family reminisces about Os’s travels with the children when Victoria was busy building her company. They laugh over how independent Fer was and how she was in a hurry to grow up. And look how I ended up, says Fer ruefully. But Victoria reminds her to count her blessings.

Meanwhile Guillermo is struggling to understand Leonela’s apparent resurrection. He bought Osvaldo’s story that the couple had gone away on vacation in the midst of a marital crisis. And she had died. Leonela corrects the record: Osvaldo found out she had a lover – not her first! --. She ended up murdering the lover and was sentenced to life in prison. Osvaldo did his best to free her but he was unsuccessful.

Recently, her new lawyer got the case reopened and they were able to convince a judge that she had acted in self-defense. And that, combined with her ‘good behavior’ and her putting on an act of a suffering mother longing to be reunited with her son got her a Get Out of Jail Free card.

She tells Gui: The only thing that kept her alive all this time was her desire for revenge.

She hasn’t seen Max yet. As for Osvaldo – here Leonela laughs and pulls out her gun and aims it at Gui’s face – Yo misma le disparé! (I shot him myself!)

Back at the hospital, Osvaldo tells Victoria he turned down a chance to make a film in Europe – a chance he would have jumped at in the past – because now his family comes first. He wants to repair the harm he has done, and help Vic rebuild Casa Victoria. And he hopes to regain her love and ultimately, her forgiveness. They clasp hands and Vic’s face softens but she says nothing.

Out in the waiting room, Max spreads the good news. Oscar, with a little nudge from Pip, leaves for dinner with Toni; Fer’s galanes will take her home. Max will stay with his father.

Padre Hottie is in church with María’s painful rejection still echoing in his head. He is surprised when Victoria enters. He notices her face is tear-stained but when he asks what is wrong, she brushes off the question. She picks up The Crucifix That Burns Those Beyond Redemption and it brings back a flood of memories. (It doesn’t burn her though, so for all her flaws, she hasn’t passed to the dark side. Yet.) You were such a good man back then, so sweet, so kind, so understanding – that’s why I hated you so much when I thought you had repudiated me and the child I was carrying – your daughter! When I believed your mother’s lies!

Sadly, JP’s mother is still on the loose and still causing harm. Right now she is in full rant mode: María is a sinner who gave herself to Max without the benefit of marriage, had a child out of wedlock and now is a single mother. (This, of course, is Demente’s own story – except that María didn’t try to incinerate Max, Ximena and Osvaldito and then marry Alonso to give her son a name.)

María tries to defend herself but Demente isn’t listening. She just keeps spewing: You haven’t behaved like a decent Christian woman! You have no right to that child! So I’m taking him right now!

María blocks the door to the bedroom with her body. (And I for one am glad to know that Nati and her pugilistic skills are behind that door with little Juan Pablo!)

Meanwhile Padre Hottie and Victoria continue their aggravating conversation. She bemoans the fact that her prayer to be reunited with her daughter hasn’t been answered. He replies cryptically that he lost a daughter too, maybe twice. Victoria doesn’t know what he’s talking about – he’s always so mysterious.

By the way, she says, I see that María Desamparada rejected you. Now you can understand what an ingrate that girl really is! He wonders how much she really knows about MD. Enough, says Vic. Enough not to be wrong in my judgment of her. That’s why I tried to buy her child.

Whoa! PJP is taken aback. But Vic continues as if bidding for babies were the most normal thing in the world. After all, Bernie did the same thing – she tried to buy little María years ago. (And Bernie, of course, is someone to emulate, right?)

PJP, who specializes in trying to reason with the unreasonable, says: If my mother’s behavior is so horrifying to you, maybe you should reflect on your own behavior; and maybe you should learn how to forgive.

Victoria sets down the crucifix. Forgiveness doesn’t come easily, she admits. She still hasn’t forgiven Osvaldo even though he’s in the hospital.

This is news to JP. Vic tells him about the shooting – they were after the car, it seems. And that’s why she came to see JP: For some reason, Osvaldo wants to talk to him.

Fausto spots el Alacrán lurking outside María’s place. El Alacrán tells him that the boss lady, doña Bernarda, is inside and tries to shoo him away. But Fausto is steadfast. He’s there to protect María.

Inside, Demente rants on. With Little Juan Pablo it’s as if God has given her another chance – a chance to make up for (resarcir) the sin her son committed because of María’s mother. I won’t permit you to take my son, declares María stoutly. No one’s asking permission, retorts Demente. You aren’t prepared to give him what he needs and to raise him properly.

She will raise her son with love, counters María, and with the freedom to choose his path in life. He’ll have the chance at happiness that Demente herself denied to MD.

Demente puts on her self-justifying face – it’s just that her feelings were confused… if only your mother hadn’t seduced my son…but you’re so much like me:
You are the only one who deserves to bear my name!

Forget the kayak. Cue the garbage scow and load it up with Demente, Leonela, Ximena, Roxana, Guillermo, Alacrán, and Padilla. And just to be on the safe side, set out a leaky canoe for Alonso and Victoria.
