Teresa Tue 5/3/11 #39 Tere Trades Up; #40 El Boracho y el Galán

Capitulo 39 – Tere Trades Up

I’ll begin with Teresa’s PDA w/Arturo. Mariano is very angry and starts to go into his SuperMariano act but Aurora holds him back and reminds him Tere is no longer his girlfriend. Tere finally pulls away from Arturo before anyone else can see them and Juana walks up lugging all her belongings with her. Tere looks a little embarrassed.

Aurora takes Mariano for a walk so he can calm down. Mariano is very angry and doesn’t understand why Tere did this. He accuses Aurora of knowing about Tere’s relationship with Arturo a long time ago. Aurora denies this and tells him again he needs to calm down; he’s only making things worse. Mariano is beating himself up, saying he just knew this was going to happen. What’s wrong with Tere, she doesn’t love Arturo. She’s just doing this for the money, status, ambition. Aurora doesn’t want him to talk that way of Teresa. She understands Teresa’s ambition but she’s just not that way. Mariano assures her he knows differently and he’s making it his mission to show Tere the error of her ways and find her way back to him. Aurora is not happy to hear this.

Refugio and Armando are talking about the way she and Tere have been quarreling. Refugio felt that after Rosita’s death, she and Tere would be closer. Armando is sure the three of them will be reunited and become a family again. Refugio’s not so sure now that Tere has gone to live with that licenciado instead of marrying Mariano. Armando says enough with the subject of Mariano already (ya dale con Mariano, y parale) She needs to accept the fact that Tere is not going to return to Mariano or to this house.

Juana, Tere and Arturo arrive at Casa de la Barrera. Arturo, ever el galán, welcomes Juana to his home. Juana is agog at the sight of Teresa’s room. Teresa: “Check out the bath.” That’s funny, that’s the first thing I check out at a fancy hotel.

Fito meets Paulo in a restroom. Paulo is desperate, he needs something. Fito reminds him the of last time they met. Paulo said he would no longer need anything. So sorry, didn’t bring anything with him. Fito watches as Paulo paces back and forth chuckling he’s got it bad. Paulo explains he has an important dinner this evening. If he shows up like this, they’ll think he doesn’t want to get married. Fito – “So you’re really clavado (nailed) or what?” Paulo responds no but it’ll be advantageous---for both Fito and him. Fito just doesn’t know if he can help him out. He’s gonna make him suffer.

Ooooh, Aurora visits Tere and coldly pushes her away when Tere greets her. Aurora confronts her about two timing Mariano with Arturo. Tere denies having anything to do with Arturo. Aurora knows she’s lying and lays it on her that they saw them kissing. Ruh-roh!

Rubigote is meeting with Arturo asking his advice on the Cancún property. He wants Art to take charge of the contracts as there’s a lot of money involved. They toast to the business venture (Arturo with a cup of coffee, Rubigote with a drink). Art asks about Espe. Rube is confident he’s found a way to appease her and keep her. With this business venture he’s also found a way to get more money in the event he needs to get a divorce. It’s important Maira not find out about the business venture. Art wonders how much longer he’s going to continue lying.

Jaws theme: Tere asks if Mariano saw her kissing Arturo. Aurora tells her they both did. She doesn’t understand what’s going on. She’s supposedly Tere’s BFF but she keeps things from her and lies to her. Well, girlfriend have a seat cuz here come some more whoppers: She’s very confused. She had already split with Mariano when Arturo told her of his love for her and then he kissed her. She has every right to try it out, doesn’t she? He even spoke to her parents! Aurora feels it’s moving too fast and asks if Tere likes Art. Tere’s very confused and doesn’t know what to do. What about Mariano? Does she still care for him or not. Tere is very upset and says Mariano disappointed her. She’s always admired el Profe and likes him very much. He tells her what she feels is love also. She asks Aurora for advice. What oh what should she do? She so confused. Aurora is at a loss for words. She can’t believe what Tere’s done. Tere says that kiss pulled the rug out from under her. Hasn’t this ever happened to Aurora? Having to choose between two loves? It’s horrible having to make a choice between two people and at the same time not wanting to hurt either one. Yeah, I’m feeling so sorry for her. Aurora suggests she aclarar tus sentimientos (spell out her feelings) because Mariano really loves her and suffering. If she doesn’t love him, let him go.

Cancún: Fernando is surprised Luisa isn’t eager to go to a fashion show, even for a little bit. She tries to talk business. He proposes a toast to the success of their project.

Juana is taking a bubble bath. Tere tells Juana he spoke with her mother regarding his feelings. Not only that but today, he kissed her! Wow, she’s covering all her bases, acting as if this is the first kiss. Juana’s shocked and insists they leave this house immediately! Tere says she enjoyed the kiss. She didn’t think of Mariano at all. Juana agrees he’s handsome (understatement) although he’s not a young as Mariano. Comparing Art with Mar, she notes he’s not impulsive, he’s mature, and she likes that. With Arturo she can have everything she’s ever wanted, including love. Juana’s all bug-eyed impactada. Hmpf, wonder what she would’ve done if she knew about the kissing on the bed.

Chavez home: Armando is sad about what happened between Mariano and Tere. Even so, Mariano shouldn’t have hit el licenciado. Mariano agrees but he couldn’t control himself. He doesn’t want to hear anything about forgetting about Teresa. He still loves her. Armando assures him he and Refugio still care very much for him. Mariano is thankful and will continue to take care of Refugio. He also refuses to give up on Tere while he believes there is still a chance to win her over.

Restaurant: While waiting for the others to arrive, Rubigote is telling Geno to give him some time to get the money together, it’s mucho milliones (1 million pesos = just short of 87,000 dollars). She wonders how he’s gonna get that out of Maira without her finding out about it. Aida, Paulo, and Maira show up. Aida has to signal Bebé to pull out her chair. They all sit and Paulo gets right down to business, stammering that he wishes to marry Aida. Champaign flows and everyone applauds with Rubigote wishing them a long life as a couple just like he and Maira. Ugh, ¡que hipócrita! Paulo looks as though he’d rather be stuck by killer bees.

Cancún: Luisa tells Fernando about Arturo’s happiness with Tere. What about Fer? He hasn’t found the woman of his dreams. He’s always wanted to get married, have children. She can’t believe he hasn’t found the right woman. She’s seen him in magazines with many beautiful, famous women. He asks what she’s looking for in a man. She confesses she’s been waiting for man to find her. She feels many men are turned off by a working woman. He says he’d like to find someone like that. She says that although she’s a working woman, she’s also a very traditional woman. She’d like to marry for life and have a few children. He toasts that she find the man of her dreams and she toasts he find the ideal woman.

Restaurant: As parents of the bride, Ruben offers to pay for the wedding and Geno offers to pay for the honeymoon. Paulo is looking really miserable. Aida says they’d like to go somewhere super exotico. Geno suggests they get on it quickly, there’s not much time. Paulo snaps and tells mom he and Aida will decide. He tries to catch himself and asks isn’t that the right way? Too late, everyone is very tense. Ruben offers to give them an apartment (thought he’d already done this) that will be in Aida’s name, of course. As Paulo continues working, he can later buy her a house. Geno jumps in saying they need a house right away and announces they should live with her after they get married so they can have a proper house with a garden. After all, they’ll be having children very soon. Aida winces.

At dinner, Arturo graciously thanks Juana for accepting his invitation to stay in his house. Juana makes it a point to speak with her mouth full – I guess to show her lack of manners – and pointedly asks him how much older is he than Tere? Tere is embarrassed saying it doesn’t matter to her. Arturo completely ignores the subject and invites Juana to join them for breakfast as part of the family. Juana seems pleased he already thinks of her as family. As such, he’s grateful to be able to speak candidly and tells her he loves Teresa and wants to marry her. Through a mouthful of food, Juana exclaims that if she had known this before she would never have allowed Teresa to continue living under the same roof with him. He assures her he respects Teresa and Teresa tells her there will be no hanky panky until they are married (paraphrasing).

Late night shot of Teresa in bed. Camera pans to her door and a man walks in barefoot and climbs into bed next to her. She turns and it’s MARIANO! What is he doing here? He couldn’t go on without her. She’s worried someone will come in. He shushes her and starts to take off his shirt (ay papi). Their theme song plays as they embrace and start smooching. Suddenly the music stops and Tere wakes up. She turns and…….caramba! It’s only Juana. Bummer. She whispers, “Mariano!”

Chavez home: Armando is still suspicious of Arturo’s intentions. Refugio lays it on him that Arturo plans to marry her and even showed her the ring. Mariano is distressed (poor baby). Refugio’s very sorry because she knows Teresa loves only him.

Cancún: Hottie Fernando is shirtless (swoon) on the beach. He’s on the phone with Arturo, telling him Luisa’s working really hard, hardly the girl he knew before. He’s very comfortable with her. He sees now that Arturo’s raised her in a very traditional manner. She’s muy buena onda (cool). Arturo is happy to hear they’re getting along so well. He also asks Fer to check out the luxury homes Ruben is investing in. They hang up and Fernando starts jogging along the beach and runs into Luisa, who is also out jogging. Wow, another mutual interest. They continue jogging together.

Juana and Teresa arrive at the vecindad in a chauffeur driven car and run into Mariano. Juana makes a hasty retreat to leave them alone to talk. Mariano starts right in, accusing Teresa of having planned it all along. He was worried that ese tipo was seducing her when all along she was playing both of them. Teresa insists she wasn’t involved with el profe until after she broke up with Mariano (well, technically she’s being truthful). She never cheated on him. Mariano isn’t buying it. How is it that Arturo is ready to marry her so quickly? Does she think he’s stupid? Or what? He’s finally come to understand her duplicity, but in the end she will never be happy. Tere assures him she’ll be happy. Mariano literally gets in her face and asks her to look him in the eye and tell him she won’t be thinking of him when she’s with that tipo (boy hit that nail on the head, didn’t he?). Tearfully he asks if she won’t remember their kisses, their caresses. He swears his undying love for her and that this love will never, nunca, allow her to be happy within anyone else. (so poetic) His tears are flowing now and he walks away from her, leaving her stunned. She wipes away a tear, takes a deep breath and walks into the vecindad.

Inside Juana’s apartment, Cutie-berto jumps out from behind a screen and surprises her. He explains he was able to get in because in her hurry she forgot to lock her door. He’s been watching over her things and watering the plants. Juana asks what under what right? He responds by saying el derecho del amor (by the right of love – corny but cute). Juana responds nonchalantly that it must be for the love of the plants. She tells him she doesn’t miss him and describes the huge home she’s in, the rooms, the Jacuzzis, etc. She refuses his advances – again. Aw, c’mon Juana, give it up already!

The garage: Patricia comes to see Johnny. Funny exchange where he tells her he thought her skirts are supposed to be dos dedos (2 fingers) above her knees but now he sees it’s now dos manos (2 hands)! They talk about grump grandpa and how strict he is. He forced his daughter into a loveless marriage but Patricia has other plans and wants to marry only for love.

The clinic: Aurora continues to console Mariano telling him love is forever. He agrees but for Teresa love isn’t enough. Aurora wishes she could do more for him…for both of them but feels her back is to the wall. He knows she and Tere are BFFs and would understand if Aurora were to leave the clinic behind. Aurora says no way, te aprecio mucho (you’re very dear to me) and wants to remain near him. He appreciates their friendship too. She’s turned into a dear friend for him. I sooooo want to see them end up together. Unfortunately, we are always attracted to the unattainable, sigh.

Tere walks into her old room and is actually sad. She sees the teddy bear that is still in the wastebasket. She picks up teddy and says she’ll never be able to forget Mariano as long as she continues to see him but she can’t! Tearfully she says she needs to resolve this now!
Caceres home: Maira thought Paulo was very nervous at dinner. Aida dismisses it due to the stress of asking for her hand in marriage. They go on to talk about making plans for the wedding, church, invitations, etc.

Refugio walks into Tere’s room and notices she’s hugging the teddy bear. She asks if she wants to take it. After all, Mariano gave it to her. Tere gets all upset, complaining the first thing Mom always talks about is Mariano. She throws poor teddy back in the wastebasket. Enter Juana. Tere says she only came by to see how mamá was feeling and now has other things to do. She rushes off. Refugio goes into her woe-is-me stare and acknowledges Tere doesn’t want to see her or hear what she has to say. Juana rescues Teddy and talks about what a nice guy Arturo seems to be. Refugio accuses her of going over to the dark side. Juana disagrees saying she feels Arturo is decent and will make a good husband for Tere. Refugio isn’t giving in saying Juana was supposed to be chaperoning Tere and instead she’s fallen submissively (caída rendida) into his charms. Juana promises she’s doing her duty as chaperone going so far as sleeping with Teresa instead of using the guest room (recámara de huespedes)

Garage: Patricia comes back from school. Johnny’s all goo-goo eyes. Patricia runs past him to hug grumpy grandpa. He gets rid of Johnny. She tells GG about the ex-mechanic coming to help Johnny thinking this would help Armando get his job back. She underestimated the extreme grumposity of GG and he snarls he’s gonna fire Johnny seeing as he can’t get the job done on his own.

Casa de la Barrera: Tere arrives telling Arturo she couldn’t wait to see him and they share a yummy kiss. She can no longer be away from him. Arturo likes that she’s stealing kisses while her madrina isn’t around. She no longer wants to hide their love. She asks that he help her finish her thesis. Instead of a graduation party, she wants a wedding. Music to his ears.

Espe meets Rubigote at an outdoor café. He tells her his daughter is getting married and this will be one less roadblock to their happiness. Espe tells him her father is so stubborn. Since Ruben didn’t make it to dinner, he now wants Ruben to come by and pick her up at home on their next date. Ruben will think about it. Did she come to a decision about their own apartment? She says yes, it’s a good idea that they begin keeping house together. Interesting note: in the background you see another table with a couple --a much older man with a very young woman in an intimate conversation. Just saying.

Casa de la Barrera: Arturo asks why the sudden change? Tere pouts she thought he’d be happy. Oh, he’s happy and out comes the engagement ring. Little does he know this is like “chum” to our little tiburoncita. He says something about this not being your conventional love story. She agrees and says after so many years of hidden love (amor contenido) it’s time they live their love openly. They kiss and as he’s hugging her she can’t keep from eyeballing that rock on her finger and then she thought bubbles, “que tonto”. Ay, que mala.

Arturo and Teresa call Luisa to give her the news or their plans to marry as soon as Tere graduates. They want her to save the date.

Patricia’s getting scolded by grumpy grandpa. He’s misunderstood her. Instead of firing Johnny, he should fire that other guy who showed up late making it necessary for Johnny to get help from the other guy who used to work there. Grumpy is suspicious about her interest in Johnny. Whatever, yawn.

Juana arrives at Casa de la Barrera. Tere tells her they’ve just had another kiss. OMG Juana says. This is becoming a pattern. If she only knew. Teresa tells her there’s more. She’s discovered she’s in love with him. Not only that but he’s asked her to marry him and shows her the ring. Now that’s an engagement ring, not like the one Mariano gave her. Juana asks if she’s sure this is what she wants. Tere explains she’s noticed all the differences between Arturo and Mariano. Mariano was the just the fantasy of first love. Arturo is a much more mature love. “This,” she says as she’s putting the ring back on her finger, “is what I’ve always wanted.”

Patricia is waiting for Johnny and asks him to forgive her for blurting out that someone helped him fix a car. No worry. There are advantages to getting fired, the chief one being that she will no longer be the boss’ granddaughter.

Casa Alcazar: Aurora tells Dad Teresa seems to be very confused and it’s sad because Mariano seems to be suffering so much. Dad doesn’t want her to get her hopes up. She knows and she’s sacado de onda (out of it/conflicted). She’s also perplexed that Teresa had never mentioned anything about el Profe. Dad agrees and more so since Tere and Mariano were already planning to marry.

Garage: Johnny arrives all cheerful and old grumpus tells him they need to have a serious talk.

Country mouse/city mouse: Tere and Juana are at one of the nicest restaurants in the city: Juana is shocked at the prices on the menu. Tere can’t help but show off and orders dinner for 6: lobster, shrimp, escargot. Juana asks if she’s planning to feed the whole vecindad. Tere seems embarrassed then tells the waiter she’s done ordering. As she’s explaining what escargot is, Aida walks up and starts in. If she knew Teresa wanted to wash dishes for her supper, she could have come to Aida’s home. Teresa says no need, she’s ordering dinner to celebrate something very special. Aida says she’s celebrating too and shows Tere her ring announcing Paulo has proposed. Tere checks out the ring and wonders if it’s the one Paulo gave her – no, it’s much smaller. What a coincidence, she’s getting married too. She raises her hand to show off her engagement ring.

The Clinic. Arturo shows up to tell Mariano they need to talk about Teresa.

=========================================================

Capitulo 40: El Boracho y el Galán

Mariano has nothing to say to him. Arturo insists. Mariano takes off his tie and offers to take it outside. Arturo says only animals come to an agreement through fighting (a golpes) Mariano just doesn’t see what they have to talk about, it’s clear she chose Arturo. Although it’s clear she didn’t do so for love. Arturo understand they’ll never agree on that subject but proposes that they accept her decision and stop the problem between them. Mariano says that’s easy to say when you’re the chosen one. Arturo assures him he would feel the same if the tables were turned. Mariano doubts that. He tells Arturo to validate why she chose him because in reality, she still loves Mariano.

Back at the restaurant, Aida just doesn’t know when to quit, calling Teresa’s nice little detalle (gift) from her beloved taxista a cheap copy. By the way, where is he? Oh, she forgot, Teresa only uses him to get to and from the university. She uses him just like she uses everyone, just as she used Paulo. Juana wants to know what she’s talking about. Teresa explains that Aida’s engaged to a man that is still in love with Teresa. Furthermore, Paulo has told her that he plans to be wed for 1, maybe 2 years, until he’s able to get some money out of his mother. Then he’ll come looking for Teresa. Aida is speechless and makes a quick retreat. Teresa just shrugs and chuckles. Juana joins in. She seems so proud of her little goddaughter.

The Garage: Grumpous Grandpa asks if it’s true Johnny asked for help. Johnny tells him to fire him if he wants to but he had to get Armando’s help or the job wouldn’t have have been completed because Ezekiel’s been gone since noon. He hadn’t said anything cuz he didn’t want to be a chismozo. Grumpy says he won’t fire him and when Ezekiel does show up, he’s gonna throw him out, patitas a la calle (literally little paws on the street). He grudgingly tells Johnny to post the Mechanic Wanted sign.

Back at the Pleito de los Papazos: Arturo says it’s Mariano’s tough luck if he doesn’t want to believe Teresa’s in love with Arturo. Mariano must understand he no longer has a chance with her. Mariano says that remains to be seen. Arturo realizes Mariano has worked hard and is an overall nice guy. But that’s no reason for Teresa to fall in love with him. Mariano says she’s loved him since childhood. Arturo grabs him by the collar and says that’s over, that was years ago and now he and Teresa are going to wed. Mariano refuses to believe it. Arturo says she’s already accepted and he plans to ask for her hand. Mariano is still not ready to believe it. It’s a done deal (es un hecho) says Arturo. He warns Mariano not to come near her because the next time he won’t be so prudent. We finally see some action from our guy Arturo. Oooh, so manly!

Juana asks Tere if it’s true Paulo told her that. Of course! Teresa can’t help if Paulo fell so loco in love with her. If she awakens such attention from men, what’s a tiburoncita to do? Juana then says she better be careful. Arturo is a much older man and they have their jealousies. He’s not going to let her continue to dress that way. Uh, Juana, check out your own dress. There’s quite a bit of cleavage there sister. Tere’s not worried. Juana tells her the age difference may not feel so great now. Give it about 20 years and she’ll see. Tere can’t live in the future. Look at Rosita, dead at 15. At least she realized her dreams. And Tere plans to do the same with Arturo.

Aida and Ivonne at an ice cream shop. Tere gave Aida a lot to think about. She’s wondering if Paulo really said that to Teresa about marrying her only until his mother suelta la lana (slang: release the money) . She just can’t believe he’s like that. Ivonne tells her she’s thinking exactly the way Teresa wants her to: que dudes (doubt) reclames a Paulo (ask him for an explanation) and either one ending in an argument that could cancel the wedding. Why give her the satisfaction? Besides once they graduate, they never have to see her again. Aida wonders aloud if that mugrosa is really engaged. Ivonne picks up her phone saying she knows someone who would know all the details.

Arturo enters the Chavez house and finds Refugio there alone. He wants to talk. He explains he came by to make sure she and Armando will be there tonight to receive them. Refugio says of course, this is still Tere’s home and hopes someday for her return. Arturo explains that’s precisely why he’s come by. He and Tere are coming by to make it official. Official? Refugio asks. Yes, to talk about their wedding. Oh no, mamá Refugio goes into her Fred Sanford act and grabs her chest. If she says “I’m coming Rosita” I’ll scream.

Mariano’s in his clinic and is upset. He’s frustrated and starts throwing things around. Magda and Dario come in just then. He tells them Arturo came by to tell him he’s marrying Tere. He can’t accept it. Tere loves him and only him! Magda places a comforting arm around him.

Arturo asks Refugio if she’s ok. How can she be ok with that news? He offers to go for a doctor. She refuses saying she’s not ill. She doesn’t feel well because of the relationship between him and her daughter. She sees he didn’t listen to her and has decided to precipitar todo (rush everything). Arturo tells her they love each other and don’t want to wait any longer. He’s also told Mariano who didn’t take it well and is still convinced he can reconcile with Tere. Arturo hopes Mariano understands that’s not going to happen. He also hopes Refugio will give him the opportunity to show he will be a good husband for Tere. Well, if they’ve decided there’s nothing she can do about it. She only hopes they don’t live to regret it. She wonders where Teresa is. He tells her she didn’t want to burden her with making dinner and is out getting dinner for this evening. They agree to meet at 8:30 tonight. Alone, she wonders aloud why Teresa is doing this. She prays that Teresa will listen to her.

Juana and Tere are in a shop buying yarn for her mom so she’ll see she’s always thinking of her. Luisa calls her. She’s just had a massage and is getting ready to go out with Fernando. She tells her of the fashion show they’re planning to attend. Tere instructs to her to accept if Fer offers to buy her a dress from the show and then ask him to take her somewhere to show it off. She tells Juana that was her future sis-in-law and points out she won’t have in-laws, just Luisa and they get along great. Juana thinks it’s great she won’t have to put up with a mother-in-law. Although Luisa does live in the house, says Teresa. She explains that if Luisa were to marry quickly that would leave her and Arturo with that caserón (big house) all to themselves.

Back at Juana’s house, Juana sadly comments that Tere will leave them all behind in the vecindad. Tere plans to take Juana with her after she has children so she can care for them. And her parents? No, they won’t be living with her since they’ve never accepted Arturo. But she says she’ll buy them a place close by.

Arturo is talking to Fernando about Ruben’s project. Fer confirms it’s in a great beachfront location, well worth the money invested. Arturo tells him of his wedding plans. Fernando playfully asks if he’s sure he wants to echarse la soga al cuello (put the noose around his neck) for his whole life? Arturo replies of course and that he wants Fer to be his testigo (witness/best man?)

Mariano arrives at Juana’s where Teresa is getting ready. He asks if it’s true she’s decided to marry ese. She’s accepted and today he plans to speak with her parents. He urgently tells her she can’t marry another when she loves him. He reaches for her, she resists, but they share a long kiss. She finally breaks away telling him there is no longer nothing between them. They still share a love he says. Yes, she confirms, but when hunger comes in the door, love goes out the window. [Hmm reminds of the Money song from Cabaret.] Love isn’t enough for her. He knows everything she wants and he can’t give it to her. He pleads with her maybe not now but between the two of them, they can have a better life. They have to try. And lose the opportunity she has today? Fuhget about it! She ain’t gonna do it! He continues to try and kiss her. She continues to resist and finally breaks away again and kicks him out. ¡Largate! (scram!) or I’ll scream! Our hero finally gets the point and leaves as their theme song plays.

Cancún: Fer and Luisa at dinner. They talk about the pending wedding in 2 weeks (!) he’s going to be the testigo and she the madrina (I’m sure this is equal to best man and maid of honor). They toast to the happy couple – that their love be forever (ahem).

The clinic: Mariano is sad, Dar and Mag are trying unsuccessfully to console him. Dar says she’ll come around. Mag wants to stick around but Dar pulls her away.

Everyone arrives at the Chavez house. Teresa gives mom her bag o’ yarn. Mom says that wasn’t necessary. Arturo again explains he would’ve preferred to take them all out to dinner but understands Refugio isn’t up to it. She agrees and then sarcastically points out Arturo and Teresa couldn’t wait any longer. [ok, I’m really starting to dislike this woman] Juana says oh c’mon Refugio, Teresa’s getting married on us. Arturo says it’s important to Teresa they have their blessing. Armando explains it’s just that Refugio is worried about her and he asks if Tere is certain about her decision. Tere asks how can she not be when beside Arturo, she’s happier than she’s ever been.

Restaurant: Aida, Ivonne, and Aurora. Aida tells Aurora she wanted to see her to tell her she’s marrying Paulo and wants her to come to the wedding. Aurora’s happy for her but doesn’t think she’ll be coming to the wedding. Ivonne tries to convince her saying she’ll need help planning her bachelorette party. Aurora offers to pass on phone numbers but……Aida breaks in saying Aurora probably can’t help because she’s helping with Teresa’s boda. Aurora is surprised at this news. Aida digs deeper surprised that she didn’t know her BFF is getting married. Aida is assuming it’s the taxista although she doubts he could afford the ring unless it’s a fake. They try to get the info out of Aurora who has caught on they only want to pump her for information. She gets up to live and Aida just can’t let it go. She suggests that if Tere kept news of her betrothal from her, what else has she kept from her?

Chavez home: Refugio is giving Teresa and Arturo marriage advice. A marriage isn’t just the wedding, it’s a lifelong commitment, honoring each other, yadda, yadda. Arturo agrees with Refugio’s views on marriage. Armando chimes in saying Tere is the light of his eyes. They’re poor people but they’ve raised her well. She has her ways (Tere doesn’t roll her eyes but I know she wanted to) but she’s a sensible girl. What can he say, she’s is daughter. He adores her and wants her to be happy. Arturo responds in kind saying he wants the same for Tere. He promises to take care of her and also wants to take care of them, if they’ll let him. Armando smiles and Refugio still has a sourpuss look on her face. She’s just not buying it.

Cancún: Luisa and Fernando are getting up from their table when Luisa’s earring gets caught in her hair. He starts to help her by brushing her hair back getting very close and going in for a kiss when darn it! Some blonde cha-cha in a very short dress comes up and greets Fernando with a kiss, calling him “mi amor”. Mind you, he doesn’t resist (jerk) and Luisa is impactada. It turns out she’s a model in tomorrow’s fashion show. He introduces Luisa as someone who is working on his project. The cha-cha says, “oh, she’s your employee.” Luisa corrects her saying in addition to collaborating with Fernando, she has a name: Luisa de la Barrera and shoots daggers at Fernando. Good for her! She wishes them good night and calls Fernando “jefe”. Fernando is duh, what just happened here? The cha-cha then invites him over to join her and her friends. Bad move, Fer.

Chavez home: Teresa’s making small talk about the food asking everyone to join in. Refugly starts in on the subject of Arturo helping them. They couldn’t possible accept his help. Arturo didn’t mean to offend, they’re going to be family. Armando agrees but Refugly sticks to her guns and says they don’t need help. They may live humbly but within their means and they don’t need his help. Alright so it’s ok take money from all the neighbors who really can’t afford it, but it’s not ok to take help from her son-in-law? Well that just put the big ol’ freeze on the celebration. Teresa tries to break the ice by suggesting they all dig in and Arturo gamely starts to fill Juana’s plate with escargot saying there’s nothing better than dining with those you care for. Juana offers a toast to the novios wishing them the best and the ability to overcome whatever disagreements they face. Juana goes to the kitchen and Refugly gets up to help her reminding Arturo that in this house they have no wineglasses. Armando takes the opportunity that his rude wife is away to offer his apologies to Arturo saying his wife is very proud. Arturo is gracious and understands. He says those are the values passed on to Teresa and one of many reasons he loves her. Teresa: not as much as I love you, mi amor. (yuk).

In the kitchen, Refugly is loudly whispering to Juana complaining she sent her to chaperone Teresa and the next day she comes home to tell them she’s marrying that man. Juana counters with Teresa is happy with El Licenciado. She should be happy for her. NO! says Refugly. Teresa is going about things the wrong way. She just broke up with Mariano and now she’s with another man? Juana says Tere broke up with Mariano because she had doubts. El Licenciado is a nice man, why can’t Refugio see him in a different light? She starts listing his qualities: handsome, educated, etc Everything a mother would want for her daughter. NO! Again Negative Nellie (Refugio) disagrees. What a mother wants is for a man who will make her daughter happy. And that man is not that Licendiado.

Cancún: Luisa returns to her room, sobbing. Aww. She calls Tere crying. Tere leaves the room so Arturo can’t hear her conversation. Luisa tells her about the scene at the bar. Teresa reminds her she has no claim to him, there’s nothing between them. Luisa agrees but she felt so bad. Teresa feels this is because she likes him. Luisa says she was so sure there was something happening between them. Not only did she get her hopes up (ilusionar), she fell in love with him. Now what’s she to do after behaving to ridiculously in front of Fernando. Teresa advises her not to see him today, especially because she’s crying. He’s sure to seek her out and if he does, she needs to avoid him. Above all, she must remain dignified. She needs to calm down and they’ll talk later because at this very moment Arturo is asking for Tere’s hand. Luisa asks Tere not to say anything of this to Arturo. He’ll kill her if he finds out she fell in love with his best friend. Tere says they’ll talk later and turns to go back to her parents’ depa.

Before she can get there, she runs into Cutberto who assumes correctly his Juanita must be with her. She forbids him to go anywhere near her parents’ depa because at this very moment “estan pidiendo a mi mano” Cutberto is very happy and assumes she’s reconciled with Mariano. She corrects him and announces she’s marrying el Licenciado de la Barrera. She leaves Cutberto mouth-open impactado.

Cancún: Fernando is trying to go back to his room and the cha-cha is very clingy and isn’t letting go that easy. Is he so concerned about his empleada? He corrects her, saying Luisa is his best friend’s sister. She finally relents and tells him he knows where to find her. (paraphrasing)

Mariano alone in his clinic: Cutberto el chismoso comes in assuming Mariano has already heard the news. Mariano acknowledges ese infeliz is asking for her hand when she loves only me. What he needs is for Tere to tell el profe in front of him if she really loves him (el profe). She wouldn’t be able to do that. He’s sure of it. Cutberto reminds him Tere broke up with him and on top of that she’s in her mother’s home and mother’s not well. Mariano is in agreement that he can’t armar un escándalo (cause a scandal) due to Doña Refugio’s health. But ganas no me faltan (not for lack of wanting).

Casa Chavez: Aurora comes in apologizing for the interruption. Armando tells her of the celebration. Aurora looks at Teresa: “so it’s true, you’re getting married.” Teresa is momentarily at a loss for words. Arturo stands there sheepishly. Juana looks up with fork in mid-air.

Clinica: Cutberto brings out a bottle and two shot glasses. Mariano just can’t give up on Teresa. Cutberto advises him to face facts (darte cuenta). If she and you were dating and now she’s marrying another, seems that te estaba jugando chueco (playing dishonest with you) ¿qué no? Mariano gives him a pitiful look. Cutberto tries to cheer him on. ¿Somos hombres ó ratones? (are we mice or men) We need to aguantarnos como machos (take it like men). Y para eso sirven ellas, las más bellas, las botellas. (and for that we need the most beautiful ones, the bottles) ok, it loses a lot in the translation but I loved it. Let the drink fest begin.

Casa Chavez: Tere recovers. Didn’t Aurora get her message? She left a message at her home and the news was too important to leave on a voice mail. Aurora is clearly angry and says this is all such a surprise. Tere wants her to be happy for them and announces Luisa and she will be her madrinas. Aurora congratulates Arturo while Tere goes to the kitchen to fetch another glass and plate.

Clínica: bottle is now half empty and our little buddies are half zonked. Cutberto is going on about Tere taking his Juanita with her. Mariano is realizing that while he thought their relationship was secure, he thought el profe was an infeliz. He was wrong. Arturo truly loves her and that minimizes his chances to win her back.

Casa Chavez: Armando toasts to their love, wishing them a love as strong as his and Refugio’s. He wants el Licenciado to know he adores his wife and she is such a good woman that she has forgiven him many errors. Juana asks what church they’re planning for the wedding. Tere drops a bombshell. They’re planning on a civil ceremony for now with the religious ceremony to follow later. In Telenovelandia that leaves the door open for Mariano, right? Refugio predictably blows up. Tere shoots dagger+poisoned-arrow eyes at mama. Refugio tells Arturo they’re Catholic and the sacrament of marriage is very important to them. Tere agrees and says that’s why they want to prepare for the sacrament calmly and at a later date. Juana offers to make both wedding dresses. Aurora excuses herself. Tere’s not ready for her to go yet. Aurora looks uncomfortable.

Clinic: Oh boy. Mariano’s el stinko now. He announces he’s going to talk with Tere now. When Cutberto asks why, “Because she loves me”, says Mariano.

Cancún: Luisa is crying. Fernando is at the door, knocking. She doesn’t answer. He calls her. She lets it go to VoiceMail.

Oh no – Mariano is drunk and stumbling through the vecindad, yelling for everyone to hear: “Teresa, you can’t get married, you still love me. You can’t marry another. I know you can hear me.” Inside, everyone is scrambling for the window and Teresa is looking for some hole to hide in. Mariano continues his drunken rant: “Remember Cuernavaca. You’re mine, Teresa.” Refugio and Armando turn to look accusingly at Tere. She pleads with her father to go out and talk to Mariano before Arturo comes back. They’ll kill each other. (I assume he left to walk Aurora to her car). Refugio asks for a clarification, what does he mean by Cuernavaca and saying she’s his. Tere just points out the obvious. He’s drunk and doesn’t know what he’s talking about. She’s so embarrassed, this is getting really bad.

Out on the street, Aurora is telling Arturo she’s still surprised by the news. Arturo goes on and on about how Teresa was so confused and that they both knew this was forbidden love, yadda yadda, but then they finally came the realization they loved each other. He’s assuming she knew it all, being the BFF.

Back at the apt: Refugio is chasing after Tere asking her what is going on. Tere points out it’s Mariano that is causing the scandal. Refugio insists she and Mariano are in love and were at the point of getting married. Tere accuses her mother of defending a drunk and she doesn’t even know everything that went on between them. (uh-oh I see another lie coming). Juana steps in asking Refugio to see how low Mariano has come. We can hear Mariano screaming outside throughout this whole conversation. We now see Armando trying to calm him down. As he’s trying to lead him downstairs, Mariano continues his rant. El licenciado stole Teresa from him. He starts calling Arturo out. He is really drunk. Johnny walks up and Armando enlists his help. Johnny finally drags him away and just in time. Arturo walks up. Armando takes this opportunity to assure Arturo Refugio will eventually come to accept him. Arturo is very understanding. He will be patient although he knows she would have preferred Mariano. Armando says Mariano esta muy mal and apologizes for his wife.

Refugio still doesn’t understand what Mariano meant by Cuernavaca. Juana thinks she’ll never be able to understand the rantings of a drunk. Teresa comes back in saying Arturo is coming back and hopes he didn’t hear anything. Arturo and Armando walk in just then and Tere asks her dad, “everything ok?” Armando responds everything’s fine. Teresa decides now’s a good time to say their goodbyes. She dutifully kisses moms and pops goodbye. Refugio asks her to reconsider a church wedding. Arturo thanks them for a memorable evening. He don’t know the half of it! He assures pops he’ll take good care of their daughter.

Armando feels sorry for Mariano but he plans to have a heart to heart with him when he’s sober. He needs to come to grips with the situation. Refugio just hopes Tere will be happy with el licenciado but something, something in her heart tells her this is not to be.

Casa de la Barrera: Arturo shows Tere the lazo used in his parents’ wedding. (a lazo is usually a long rosary used during a Catholic wedding that is arranged around the couple as a symbol binding them together – I’ve only seen this in Mexican weddings, not sure if it’s used in other cultures). He then tells her they will be wed by the church on the same day as the civil ceremony. He feels this is important as it unites them until death. Well, that just shuts the door on Mariano. She later tells Juana but doesn’t look too happy about it. She notices the teddy bear on the bed. Juana brought it because she knows how attached she was to it.

Aurora is in her room looking at a photo of her with Tere. Daddy walks in. He confirms there were no messages left for her at the house. She then tells him of Tere’s pending marriage with Arturo. Daddy’s surprised. They talk about how strange it is that Teresa never shared her feelings regarding Arturo. She just doesn’t understand it and her feelings are hurt. She feels Teresa had been fooling everyone all along. Dad says lealtad (loyalty) in friendship is as important as fidelidad (fidelity) in a couple. He finds it strange that Tere didn’t take her into her confidence. Whatever, Mariano is free now. They can’t reconcile now that Tere is marrying another. Aurora agrees and says she’s free now to fight for his love.

As we leave Telenovelandia, Tere is holding the teddy, thinking of that day at the fair when she and Mariano were so happy.

Paquitadelbarrio: Beautifuly written. I particularly enjoyed your insightful, wry commentary:"That’s funny, that’s the first thing I check out at a fancy hotel". Me too!

Your embedded vocabulary was excellent. You covered all the events perfectly.

I can't tear my eyes from Tere. I can't recall ever seeing such a master manipulator. Seeing Mariano and Arturo reduced to sniveling, crying, mesmerized tortured souls is difficult to watch. Aurora now senses that Tere isn't what she portends to be. So, what will she do with this new found knowledge?

That said, I can't wait to see what Teresa does next.

Again, marvelous recap! Gracias.

Diana

Paquitadelbarrio: I haven't read the whole recap yet, (I will and will comment later) I copied and pasted it to MS word to take with me to read, put it in Ariel font #12 and then made it single space. It is 14 pages!
Jardinera's yesterday was interestingly a similar number of pages. This has got to be really hard work for you all, thank you (and all the recappers) for your dedication in this.
Thank you all for also putting in some of the Spanish vocab.

"i'm comin' Rosita"---love it!
ITA with you Paquitadelbarrio about starting to really dislike Refugio. Yes, she sees Tere's true nature and it scares her, but why is she so mean to Prof. Hottie? He is actually a v.g. guy who wants to 'do right' by her daughter. i hope that Juana can change her opinion, at least to an un-annoying level.

and thanks for translation on the Johnny/Patty convo. i knew he made some joke about her short skirt, but didn't catch what he said.

Great work, Paquita and very fast! I am impressed.

Refugio is missing the point: Tiburoncita will never be happy because nothing will ever be enough for her. She will always want more and more. Her need for male attention/validation is going to get her into lots of boiling water with Arturo's jealous streak and his temper and will prevent her having any meaningful friendships with other women. As if she doesn't have enough issues about that already.

Although the timing isn't good, I think she enjoys the idea of Mariano suffering for having lost her. Paulo is headed for complete ruin and there is still Rubigote.

She's like a hurricane, leaving a path of destruction in her wake.

Paquita: This was such a fun read, amiga! You had some great one-liners, but the whole tone kept me chuckling throughout. Cutberto has been causing his share chaos, first with the fight the afternoon before and then with getting Mariano drunk out of his mind. He's more like a Puck-berto.
=============
Tere was IMHO avoiding a church wedding to leave the way free to divorce this money-bagged chump and marry the next one when she's had enough of him. Arturo is tightening the noose around her and it will be interesting to see how she avoids this.

I absolutely loved Mariano's drunken call out of Teresa! I was giggling the whole time because it was the last think I expected, but I was also on pins and needles wondering if Art would hear any of it or if Mar would yell out anything more compromising about Cuernavaca.

I really think this has to be the best telenovela I've seen in a month of Sundays. It's some of the best writing and acting by the two leads......

Jarocha: If you're out there, venerada amiga mia, after last night's episodios I truly see why the televisions in the bars and restaurants were all set to this telenovela. 9 : ? )

UbanA: ITA that Art's tamped down emotions may spew forth - a jealousy streak fed by the falsely placed trust in his first love, Paloma and the rejection by the whole of society when his parents were murdered and falsely(?) accused. It's as if he's fought the urge to avenge himself by means of physical violence because he sees himself as an "educated man" who believes in peaceful resolution conflict. There's a hair trigger on those emotions and perhaps that's why he's hidden himself away from the rest of the world the past decade and a half. Opening up to Teresa is definitely going to put that hair trigger front and center.

Frances thanks so much for this great recap. Your titles were witting and summed up the action well.

I've been sick of Refugio and agree w/Kristoise. If she knows Ter is off, why be a witch to the prof. And then you pick and choose (as Frances noted) who pays your bills as you can't (but your poor neighbors can). Similar to a broken clock, she's right twice a day regarding Ter but how she goes about controlling her daughter, arguing with her husband, and dissing the prof is bad.

Though I do feel bad for Mariano, his Ter is mine speeches make me nervous. While he's a great guy, like Art they have tempers that demand counseling!

Poor Luisa. She needs a great guy and right now Fernando is NOT that man.

Jardinera, I completely agree with you about why our Tiburoncita is avoiding the church wedding. Arturo is pushing it to placate Refugio; he is not yet aware that Teresa is the bad news we know she is.

Did she only just graduate college or is it law school already? I somehow pictured Mariano to be at least 3 years older, so for him to have just graduated med school would mean that she still has law school to attend.

Great recap. I have no idea how you all are doing two-hour shows every week; I hope Lunivision settles on a more reasonable schedule soon. Yet you don't skimp at all on the detail or commentary.

Refugio is the worst. Could she have been more rude? No wonder Terror wants to get away from her. How would Refugio have liked it if she had served food to Arturo, and he had turned up his nose and refused to eat it because it wasn't what he was used to? I guarantee that would not have gone over well with her. I think Refugio, behind her "concerned mother" facade, tries to be manipulative just like Teresa does, it just doesn't work as well for her.

Mariano seems to simmer down. It's hard to grasp why he even still likes Teresa. Maybe he just doesn't take rejection well. I did greatly enjoy her fantasy of him, although Uni cut part of it out. Boo, Univision!

I meant SuperMariano (great one) NEEDS to simmer down. Gosh, I hate it when coworkers disrupt my commenting to discuss actual work.

Frances what a wonderful recap, I share your annoyance at Refugio even though I understand her. Parents are used here to meddle in their child's lives even going into adulthood, sigh. It's the downside of such strong family units, sometimes the line gets blurred. Some parents understand to let their children make their own mistakes as adults but if you got a mom like Refugio, well...

However, I like that Refugio is not perfect. She is a tridimensional character with her faults and all.

And yes, Cutberto is a chismoso. Mariano was so out of control last night I almost felt bad for him.

Jardinera: I'm glad you are liking this novela, I felt nervous about recommending it at first because the pace reminds me so much of the Telenovelas I used to watch when growing up. Where most of the story was about the interaction of the characteres and not as much about something big happening every episode or at least every week.

UA: In México you study law in university and come out as a Licencado en Derecho. I think you need five years to complete your degree but now you can take summers and come out in four. Most kids don't do that but I can see how Teresa would. The three years figure is odd but I'm fanwanking that we took several months in the earlier episodes and several months have passed after the time jump.

Jarocha

Jarocha, thanks for that info. In the US law school is a 3-year graduate school after the traditional 4-year college. The average law-school graduate is therefore about 24 or 25 years old. S/he may not pass the bar exam on the first try, however, so it could take months to get the license to practice.

Was Teresa serious about getting Arturo to help her finish her thesis? If his dating a student wasn't enough, he'd definitely be getting into some ethical gray area there. And by "gray area" I mean he'd probably be fired and Teresa would be expelled without receiving her degree if they were found out, right?

Wonderful recap Frances. I think the blinders have come off Aurora's eyes regarding Teresa since she never told her about (her slow seduction of) Arturo. I wonder will Aurora tell Arturo what she knows about Teresa and Mariano.

I agree that Teresa is a master manipulator. It was hard watching Mariano so tortured. I'm afraid that Refugio is right that she will do to Arturo what she's done to Mariano.

In the previews, I think Aurora tells Teresa that she's going to pursue Mariano. Oh well. Serves her right.

I want to say again a special thank you to all the recappers for recapping these double episodes. It is so much appreciated. I wonder how long will Uni show these double episodes. I've been seeing a promo for a new novela although I can't think of the name at this moment.

Paquita, thanks a million for your superb recap. Your details and embedded vocab are very helpful.

I love love love when Teresa sticks it to Aida, those are some of my favorite scenes.

I was a bit surprised when Teresa thought-bubbled "tonto" while hugging Arturo. Even though he doesn't ring her bell like Mariano does I thought she liked him.

Julia, I wondered the same thing about the thesis comment. However when I was doing my thesis (a million years ago) I recall that there were faculty members who were available for some level of assistance and advice.

Jarocha, I also like that the characters are not perfectly black and white. I might not like how Refugio behaves but I can understand what motivates her. This is good character development.

Thanks again Frances. You Teresa recappers have my utmost admiration what with these 2-hour episodes.

Unfortunate that when Arturo said Mariano's and Teresa's relationship was over years ago, Mariano didn't take the opportunity to point out that she only dumped him a few days ago. But that would make our plot move too fast...

Fernando is an idiot. If he's at all serious about sweet Luisa, why would he be so snoozly with the floozy? And if he's not serious about Luisa and just wants to play with her, too...well, he's even more of an idiot to try that with his best friend's sister. Unless he has some secret old grudge against Arturo and he's after revenge.

As far as the thesis is concerned, if Art is her "advisor" as well as her professor, then this could be what she's referring to. It seems they're all graduating, and since the marriage has to wait till she's graduated, and it is to be in two weeks, then I'll tighten my beanie and say we've gone through a fourth school year these past few episodios.

This telenovela is like reading a good book you stay up all night to finish.

I think it's typical for students to consult with faculty members, but it seemed to me like Teresa was asking for more than that. I could just be misinterpreting, but the fact that she even mentioned his helping her to me suggested something above and beyond the usual level of professor involvement. Plus, since they also have a personal relationship, I think the powers that be would certainly wonder just how much of her work she did herself.

Capn: We must have been writing at the same time.

If Refugio is worried that her daughter is sick in the head, then why advocate for poor Mariano? He'd have to deal with her craziness too, duh.!

Tere's being accused of two-timing Mariano with Art. She may have started out that way, but she is technically correct that she had formally broken up with him before she allowed things to get serious with El Profe. Mar has been continually the one initiating all the sexual stuff, even if she likes exciting him and provokes it. He doesn't have to respond and actually kiss her like he's been doing.

Exactly! She's trying to warn off Arturo, whom she does not care about or even like, yet Refugio wants to stick beloved longtime friend Mariano with her crazy abusive daughter? Why is she so mean to Mariano? She should be encouraging him to get away from Teresa.

They need to get a shrink in that little neighborhood clinic.

Hee, I think we're all commenting at the same time!

Jardinera, good point about Refugio thinking Teresa is loca and lobbying for Mariano. Somebody needs to explain that to Refu.

Julia, I'm sure Teresa will play Art like a Stradivarius as pertains to her thesis. Everything they do should be suspect because of their relationship, that's another good reason they should play it slow. But of course they are in this great rush that is making everyone else uncomfortable.

I was just going to say that they need a shrink in the vecindad but Julia beat me to it!

Haha, yes they DO need a shrink in that clinic, seriously. That made me laugh. Paquita!! What a fantastic recap! Your embedded vocabulary is awesome and your description and humor are great. You had me giggling with "Oooh, so manly!" and a bunch of other comments. I love the little comments too, like 'swoon' and 'ahem' and 'yuck.'
I'd just like to point out that Mar drunk was unexpected and entertaining and that Aaron Diaz is not at all an ugly crier. He still looks great with red, puffy, overflowing eyes.
ITA with everyone about Refugly--that had me laughing, too!--she is extraordinarily rude. I understand where she is coming from, but seriously! I'd like to comment that the actress who plays her is a good actress. I loved her in Tontas and I am hating her in this show!
I am really liking this TN, too. SO glad I signed on to recap it! It makes me make the time to watch it every night and follow the storyline and learn more espanol! I like that it is more about believable characters and character development rather than crazy big things happening. It makes it so much more interesting.
Once again, stellar recap Paquita!

Oh I also wanted to say re: thesis. I dont think that Tere OR Arturo would stand for him over helping/doing her thesis for her. Whether they are in a relationship or not. We know she is really smart, and the best in her whole class, AND is determined to work hard so she can succeed, so I think she would want to do it herself. And I just don't think, even with all that's going on, Art would do it for her.

Samantha, I feel the same way about volunteering to recap. It makes me pay closer attention to what's going on. I really like this novela. The character development is awesome.

Arturo and Mariano are like puppets in Teresa's capable hands. Aaron Diaz plays Mar so well, I really feel sorry for the character. His drunken rage was very realistic and so heartbreaking. And my papi Sebastian Rulli is playing Arturo so well, sophisticated but with a temper that will eventually erupt.

I missed Rubigote/Espe in the last hour episode. Can't wait to see how that affair continues. Ay, ay, ay this is getting good.

Frances, and all the recappers, thanks so much for the wonderful detail. I've tuned in for just a few episodes and lord, I got hooked. Four hours a might of TN watching is a bit much, so I'm trying to watch online, but these recaps have been the best in catching up on what I missed.

I agree with you Julia on Refugio. At first reading/watching, she just seemed concerned. Then it became this constant one note complaint to her daughter.(shades of my own mother who could win the award for this habit. I had to agree with Tere who told her just that. You would think her mother was wishing she was younger and had a "Mariano" in her life.
And it's not like Art is some punk or low-life. She could at least be civil. Someone should tell her that with most people the more you nag at them, they are going to do what you hate just to get back at you.

I agree - great acting in this one. Mariano made a good drunk, some actors don't pull it off well. He was rather sad to watch. I do like the idea of Aurora and Mar together though. But unless Tere changes, I would like to see the Prof with someone else too.

Julia and Sylvia - ITA regarding Refugio wanting Mariano for her daughter. You know she's crazy and he's a nice guy. Why would you want that hell on him? If you and your love couldn't change her, why do you think his will?

Also she knows el Profe is a nice guy too so what's up with being a witch at dinner. The actress is very good as she and her one note vex me greatly.

I would like to thank all of you recappers. I appreciate all the hard work this entails. This TN is so full of slang that I miss parts of the dialogue. But I know I can come here and you all have it cleared up for me. THANKS!

This TN is a lot of fun. There is so much going on and like someone before mentioned, its like a good book that You want to keep reading.

Love the Refugly name. She sure has an ugly attitude ALL the time. Arturo Baby is a Mother's Dream Husband. What is wrong with that woman! She thinks all you need is love to sustain a marraige? Wrong. And Teresa realizes this. She does love Mariano, but he cant help her attain the life she wants. I think she cares for Arturo and she thinks with him she can have the life she wants.
And I'm pretty sure she can "find the love" with Mr. Sexy Suit. Any 21 year old normal female can.....especially with this guy! Ufff....

Diann

Arturo makes her uncomfortable. He's wealthy, sophisticated, highly intelligent, and gorgeous. This means that she has to face the fact that Teresa is an adult with a sex drive as well.

Show me a parent who can deal with that appropriately.

The loss of Rosita makes this harder because the nest is empty sooner. Mariano is like one of the family and was Teresa's childhood playmate. Arturo may as well come from another planet.

Silvia Mariscal (Refugio) is a marvelous actress. We absolutely adored her in Tontas where she played a very stylish, hip mom who drove around in a hippie VW bug from the 60's. She was so attractive in Tontas it's hard to imagine she's the same person.

Thanks again, Frances, for your thoroughly enjoyable and informative recaps. Not just one but two terrific recaps a night is amazing.

Teresa called our galan Arturo a tonto. She might be the real tonta for not appreciating this prize of a man. But then Teresa will never appreciate anything because as Urban mentions... Teresa will never be happy and always want more. She's been hurt by the likes of Aida and the consequences of being poor and will be trying to have it all even if it involves mala behavior. She's a girl who can't wait.

Agreed, a shrink is needed at that clinic and the first patient should be Refugio, the ever meddling controlling mom. No wait, maybe it should be its own obsessed Doctor Mariano.

Agreed, that this an interesting novela as it is centered on the characters, flaws and all.

GinCA

I really like character study stories, where the interest is in the nuances, motivations, and personal development rather than Big!Dramatic!Ridiculous! happenings all the time. Not every telenovela needs to be driven by some secret which the key people don't learn due to a highly improbably string of interruptions. I mean, we have a few secrets here, but not the same way. Arturo's been warned that Teresa's just after his money, now it's just a matter of whether he'll be convinced. It's not like everyone has proof she turns into a vampire at night but every time they're about to mention it, the phone rings and they just somehow never get back to that conversation.

Teresa is a better-educated version of Sofia on HdM. The education is about getting into better social circles to start fleecing rich men. The thought-bubble "Tonto" is the proof.
