TELEMUNDO Y MÁS (#1): Silvana sin Lana, Sin Senos Sí Hay Paraíso, Señora Acero 3, & La Sombra de Helena: Week of August 15, 2016
Welcome to Page #1 (Monday edition) of the Telemundo y Más page, issued twice a week: Mondays at 3:00 PM and Thursdays at 8:00 PM.
Labels: acero3, helena, silvana, sin-senos, telemundo
Happy to have you with us for Silvana, Dona Felipa! I really enjoy it.
Welcome, Doña Felipa! I think you've come to the right place. Silvana sin Lana is definitely humorous, though at times the more accurate word might be "ridiculous". :-) If you'd like a very quick (1 or 2 paragraphs) synopsis of the overall plot, I can put one together, but if you don't need it, that's fine. Just jump in and enjoy!
They repeat the scene in the bakery where Vicente tells Majo he’ll stop pursuing her if she gives him one last kiss. Trini walks in in the middle of the kiss and faints at the sight. MJ asks for whiskey to revive her, but Don Benito decides on mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. She comes to shrieking and then goes through a routine of spitting and wiping her mouth [not very elegant behavior, Trini].
Stella pays a visit to her house bringing toys for Jennifer’s kids. [I believe she wants to calm things down so Jennifer will stay longer, keeping her at Manuel’s.] She then tells Jennifer she’ll be the boss of the house from now on. She calls Dominique and Poncho Judas One and Judas Two. After she leaves, Jennifer sends Dominique upstairs to clean the bathroom and Poncho to clean the oven!
Trini comes home saying it’s a shame one can’t even faint without someone taking advantage [Not to mention peeking through holes in her wall. Ha!] Majo tells Angie that Trini was having hallucinations [about the kiss, of course!]
Angie tells Silvana that she has a school party to go to, and Jorge backs her up. She’s working at the salsadromo again.
Chivis confronts MJ about the lie the night before that she had been out with Andrés, when it had really been Vicente. MJ is her usual snotty self. Lupita comes in to say that Manuel is downstairs to see her. MJ takes advantage of this to turn the tables on her mother about being a married woman. Chivis demands that the girl respect her and tells her she’s fed up.
Stella is putting her clothes away in Manuel’s bedroom, complaining to Pedrito about the closet size. He asks why she brought so many clothes when his father said she’d be staying a couple of days! She asks where his father is and Pedrito replies that he’s next door helping Jorge with the painting. Stella rushes out telling Pedrito that she has to tell Manuel something.
Manual tells Chivis he wants the painting to turn out well so her daughters will be content and she won’t want to move away. He invites her for some tacos de suadero sometime. [I finally looked this up. Suadero, in Mexican cuisine, is a thin cut of beef from the intermediate part of the cow between the belly and the leg. Suadero is noted for having a smooth texture rather than a muscle grain. Typically, suadero is fried and used as a taco filling.] Having looked this up, I still don’t know why it’s so funny. Chivis is cracking up when she opens the door to find Stella there.
Stella reminds Manuel that they have a date. She again kisses him inappropraitely. She makes sure to tell Chivis that the two of them are going to a hotel so they won’t make so much noise!
We get a cute scene with Jorge and Vicente in the bathroom. It seems very much like a normal scene between brothers. Vicente tells Jorge that, if Angie won’t forgive him then she has a heart like robocop. He tells his brother he’s getting duded up because he has a tilapia on the grill that he’s going to heat up, smirking like mad.
Andrés has come to watch a movie with Majo. He’s acting like all is well between them. She complains about his “art house” taste in movies. When she leaves the room her cell starts to ring. Andrés sees it’s Vicente and answers.
Lupita has joined her mother on the balcony and is sad, saying she misses her father. We see Antonio José watching them from behind a tree!
Over the phone Vicente tells Andrés he was just calling about all of them going dancing again. Andrés is not buying this one bit. He erupts when MJ calls him paranoid. She tells him that, if he doesn’t trust her, then what’s the point. She gives him back the ring, and they break up.
Jennifer’s son has overheard Poncho and Dominique talking about ways to get rid of Jennifer.
Majo tells her mother that, because Chivis and Angie brought up all those things about Vicente, Andrés is now jealous. Chivis is not buying this line. She tells her not to blame others for what she herself has done.
In the no-tell-motel with colored strobe lights in the room Manuel is on the bed in his boxers. Stella comes in singing a little ditty about being a little female cat looking for her male. She sits on him and leans in. Manuel: ¡Cómo me gustas, Chivis! Whoops! Stella explodes. She tells him he has Chivis in his head and insists on leaving.
Majo keeps on trying to blame her mother for the breakup of her engagement. Her mother tells her that, if Andrés doesn’t trust her it’s because she’s lied to him several times. She also asks her if maybe she might be liking Vicente a bit. Majo flounces out.
Jennifer is leaving Stella’s house and is putting a huge dramatic guilt trip on the guys. The baby cries at the top of its lungs. [What have they been doing to this baby for all these wailing scenes?] Jennifer says she’s a human being, carne y hueso. Dominique, in an aside, says más carne que hueso. After she leaves, Dominique tells Poncho they’ve sold their souls to the devil.
Jorge sends Angie a really cute video of himself holding up squares of cardboard telling the history of their relationship. She likes it!
Stella has come home in a huff and is furious to find out that Dominique and Poncho have let Jennifer leaves. D tries to blame it all on P, presumably so he’ll get to stay. She orders them to find her.
Manuel is on the balcony. Chivis comes out saying gently that his night away was pretty short. He eventually confesses that he called Stella “Chivis” in bed. She laughs.
Dominque arrives at the Fish Market in the morning screaming Stella in another Brando homage. He tells Stella they could not find Jennifer.
Andrés arrives at the Fish Market to confront Vicente. Stella tells the guys that this is the doctorcito, novio de la fresita, la hija de la desabrida esa. Tiene los cuernos de venado! She’s gleeful and says this is going to be great!
When Andres comes into the Fish Market office Vicente tries to act like nothing happened. He tries on the asking them dancing ruse again. Andrés outright says it: “Are you interested in María José?" Vicente tries out his mujeriego routine, actually admitting to Andrés that he wouldn’t exactly turn her down. This does not go over well. As Andrés is leaving, Vicente asks him what he’s up to with his sister.
Trinidad is in Silvana’s bedroom putting the jewelry away because of Jorge having been in the house. Lupita does not like this one bit, but she cheers up when Trini tells her she’s to get together with the priest for the preparation for her first communion.
Stella approaches Chivis at the Fish Market, ostentatiously looking at her watch, insinuating she’s late to work. Chivis tells her she’ll decide her working hours. Then, with a smirk, she asks Stella how her night was last night. Stella tells her it was divine. Her shark is SUCH a man. She didn’t get any sleep at all.
Stella tells her her nickname is not very pretty, saying “Chivis” in a rather nasty way. Chivis: “No! I like it! No one ever forgets it. It just sticks in their minds. Chivis, Chivis, Chivis”, as she walks away. Mission accomplished. Stella is furious!

Thanks so much for this wonderful recap, novelera. Comcast failed me this evening...both TV and Internet were down for hours. So I haven't yet seen the episode, but thanks to your recap, I feel I have. And I loved your asides, starting with "[not very elegant behavior, Trini]." Ya think?
It sounds as if Stella's strategies for holding on to Manuel are starting to come undone. I suspect that means that Antonio José will soon come out from behind the tree to provide a new complication.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the weather will cooperate this coming evening (Tuesday). I think it was due to some pretty strong storms that Comcast had problems. I'm glad that I wasn't supposed to recap the Monday episode.
Many thanks, J and Jon, for the info about upcoming changes in Telemundo's daytime novela schedule. I'll be putting up next week's Telemundo y Más page, and we've been including the daytime novelas in the page's listing.
Novelera, I finally got to watch the episode, and I just want to say that I'm more impressed than ever at how well you captured it in your recap. Wow!
Am I the only one who thinks that Antonio-Jose looks a lot older than Chivis.
Andres seems a bit of a fuddyduddy. I think MaJo prefers the excitement and fun she thinks is offered by Vicente.
Jude Gray, I agree that the writers are dropping hint after hint that Majo is more suited to Vicente; i.e., both are vain, flirtatious, and fairly shallow! I especially got a kick out of Majo’s inability to appreciate Andrés’ enjoyment of complicated movies. This is something I’m sure he would be able to share with Lucha.
novelera- Yes. But maybe she's also enough of a snob (like her loopy granny!) to be swayed by the thought of being a professor's or doctor's wife than marrying a junior fishmonger!
Trina's spitting and wiping her mouth after realizing she'd been kissed by Don Benito was so insulting. What does she gave to do to that poor old guy for him to finally give up on her?! Are there no other nice old ladies in town?
Thanks for the recap, novelera! So glad Majo and Andres finally split up. Let's hope they don't get back together so we don't have to suffer through more Baby Boos!
I do find this telenovela to be very...vanilla. It almost seems like it's aimed at a teenage audience rather than adults.
I was impressed by Chivis' parenting skills last night. She managed to be loving and maternal to MJ, while still letting her know that she couldn't blame everyone else for problems she created herself. I would have told her to piss off in a much less parental way.
So glad to know that was a hotel! I came in late and thought it was Stella's room. It looks like her taste in decorating. But the sexy cat play! With a tail! Way to commit to the part, Stella.
I don't care much for Vicente, but he was right to ignore the threats from Andres. It's not Vicente's responsibility to care about MJ's fidelity. He gets to be all the mujeriego jerk he wants to be. She's the one Andres needs to deal with .
Kelly
Yes, Chivis and Mañuel both have been shown to have good parenting skills. Guess they could run a great household together in the future, apart from the oddness of several of their respective kds apparently being enamoured with one another.
Margarita comes by Angie's house. She tells Angie that she wants to be friends. Angie isn't quite sure whether to believe her, but she tells Margarita that she (Angie) is not a resentful person, and she doesn't like to fight with people (yo no soy rencorosa, y me da mucha flojera estar peleando con la gente), so yes, let's be friends. Margarita proposes that they put the past behind them and start over with a clean slate (borrón y cuenta nueva), and the two of them shake hands. Margarita then asks whether she can see Jorge, she's brought him a sandwich. He's upstairs painting the bedroom, and Angie goes to get him. He comes downstairs, and Margarita gives him the sandwich she has made--his favorite, of course. She then invites him to come to her house that evening to watch a film. Jorge at first protests, but she insists that she's inviting him just as a friend. He finally agrees to come.
The scene shifts to Manuel's house. He is trying to convince Stella that his calling her Chivis was just a small error of no importance. He confuses his children's names all the time, he says. She points out to him that he has several children, but he should have just one novia. She takes her suitcases and leaves the bedroom.
Majo has gathered her family together to announce that she has broken off with Andrés and has given back the engagement ring. Angie tells Majo that she has done the right thing, and Angie is very proud of her. Trini has a very different opinion. As she puts it, "hashtag: Andrésguaporicojoven." How will Majo find someone else as desirable? There's a knock at the door. It's Pedrito, coming to see Lupita. The two of them go upstairs. Pedrito asks her why she left his house in a hurry a few days ago. She replies, "I felt butterflies in my stomach." Pedrito is astonished: "I did too!" How many? she asks. Three. Why so few? she asks. "I had at least fifty." Pedrito asks whether this means they're novios. Lupita says yes. They shake hands (!). And what now? asks Pedrito. Lupita replies, "I think we have to kiss." "I'll skip that part," says Pedrito. "I don't like kisses." "Me neither," says Lupita.
Before leaving the house, Stella says goodbye to all the kids. She's all choked up. She had started to feel as if they were her family. Lucha is quite sympathetic. Stella tells the kids that what their father did was very ugly. As she's about to leave, Pedrito comes in. Someone tells him that Stella is leaving. His face lights up, but when Stella turns in his direction, he immediately forces himself to look sad. He then tells everyone that Majo has broken off her engagement and has returned the ring Andrés gave her. Vicente looks very pleased. Lucha is apparently practicing for a poker tournament; her face reveals nothing.
Majo goes into the bathroom, presumably for privacy, and tries to decide whether to call Vicente. She wavers, but finally she calls him, tells him she just felt like talking to him, and asks what he's planning to do that night. She insists that she's not inviting him, but if he feels like going dancing....
Angie plans to work as a waitress again that night at the salsadromo. When her mother tells her she's too young to go to the salsadromo, Angie assures her that the school has rented the salsadromo for a big party, and so there will be no alcohol. Chivis agrees that Angie can go, but she (Chivis) will come to pick her up when the party is over. Angie says she'd be embarrassed to have her mother come to get her; she'd rather return home with Jorge. Chivis is surprised and somewhat disappointed that Angie isn't still angry at Jorge for the episode with the spyhole. She finally agrees to let Angie go to the "party" and have Jorge accompany her home.
Trini comes to Don Benito's bakery. She tells him she has to see Padre Sanchez about Lupita's first communion and asks Don B whether he'd take her. Of course he agrees. Margarita comes in and tells Trini not to worry, she and Angie are now friends, so Margarita has no objection to Trini's coming to the bakery.
Lucha contacts Andrés by computer and the two of them have a texting session. They agree to meet to talk.
At Margarita's, she and Jorge are sitting together on the floor and are about to watch the film when Don Benito arrives. Margarita wasn't expecting him to return so soon. He says he too would like to watch the film, and he squeezes in between Margarita and Jorge. "You're now amigos," he tells them. "I'll be one more amigo."
At the salsadromo, Majo spots Angie and asks indignantly what she's doing there. Angie asks Majo the same question with equal indignation. The two of them berate each other and threaten to tell Chivis, but they finally agree that "I'll say nothing if you say nothing."
Chivis steps outside her house to try to get a better phone connection. She is surprised to see Jorge. "Why aren't you at the fiesta?" she asks him. He tries his best to make excuses. Chivis seems to believe him, but she nonetheless feels the need to go find Angie at the party and accompany her back home. Jorge texts Angie to warn her of her mother's plans.
Lucha and Andrés seem to be at some relatively posh restaurant [although it's amazingly empty for a Saturday night]. Andrés holds up his wine glass and rather pretentiously twirls the wine and examines it [I'm someone who loves good restaurants and good wine, but I nonetheless thought Andrés looked rather silly]. He tells Lucha that he's feeling very confused right now. She gives him some advice, and he asks how many times she has been about to get married. To his surprise [and mine], she responds "Three." Once she had even bought her wedding dress. "So what went wrong?" he asks. "He liked Arjona." [Confession: I'd never heard of Arjona, but according to Wikipedia, Ricardo Arjona is a very successful Guatemalan singer-songwriter.] And what about the other two novios? "One liked to dye his hair, and the other was allergic to gluten and lactose."
Andrés assures her that he has no allergies, doesn't dye his hair, and doesn't like Arjona. He admits, however, that at times he likes to listen to Paquita la del Barrio [a Mexican singer of rancheras and other Mexican songs]. It's Lucha's turn to be surprised. "I didn't think people like you enjoyed Paquita." She confesses that Andrés has upset some of her prejudices. They continue to talk, and she says to him, "If I were your novia, I wouldn't be unfaithful." He replies, "If you were my novia, I wouldn't mistrust you." He then says that he thinks Majo has been seeing someone else. "You'd tell me, wouldn't you?" he asks Lucha. She pleads with him not to ask her. It makes her very uncomfortable, she says.
Chivis arrives at the salsadromo. She asks where to find the school fiesta. She's told that no school has rented the salsadromo, especially not on a Saturday. She then catches sight of Majo and Vicente kissing. She's stunned. As she's trying to decide what to do, she gets a text message from Angie asking where she is and saying that she's already at home. Chivis leaves.
When Chivis returns home, she tells Angie that she went to the salsadromo, and there was no school fiesta. The quick-thinking Angie tells her that the party was in the part in the back; in the front, there's the bar. Chivis must not have looked in the right place. Chivis then tells her that she saw Majo and Vicente, and they were kissing in public. Chivis asks, "How could she end her engagement yesterday and today she's kissing Vicente?" She tells Angie that she's very hurt that her children are lying to her.
At Stella's, Stella is telling Poncho and Dominique about Manuel's calling her Chivis in a moment of passion. "He doesn't deserve you," says Dominique. Poncho adds, "You deserve a man who loves you, and who won't confuse you with someone else. [Hint hint.]
The next day, Manuel is talking to Poncho about the situation with Stella. [Is Poncho really the best confidante he can find?] Manuel tells him that "Ever since Chivis arrived, my life has been turned upside down" (Desde que llegó la vecina, se me puso todo patas pa' arriba).
Outside the fish market, Vicente lifts a heavy container of fish into Chivis' van. He asks Chivis whether she has a problem with him. No, she replies, my problem is with Majo. Vicente says that Majo is a grownup, a real woman (hecha y derecha). She can decide whom she'll see and whom she won't see. Chivis feels differently. Majo, she says, is an adolescent, inexperienced and immature. Chivis adds, "Don't tell her what I said or she'll kill me. And don't hurt her, or I'll kill you."
Poncho and Vicente talk about Majo. Poncho feels that Majo is just the flavor of the week, that Vicente will move on to others. Vicente hesitantly says that this isn't so: Esta chava es diferente.
Chivis and Manuel are in his office. She asks him to help her with the budget for the upcoming marriage of her friend's daughter. She also asks that he come with her. He says he doesn't think that would be a good idea. "Stella has been very jealous lately...and basically she's right." Chivis asks what he means by "she's right." Manuel has a hard time expressing himself. He finally says, "You're a person...." but his sentence is interrupted by a knock at the door. Vicente comes to tell him he's needed out front. "Saved by the bell," Chivis says with a smile.
The charter school has let out for the day. Jorge walks with Angie. She asks him how the film was that he saw with Margarita. "The film was good," replies Jorge, "but I think I'd rather paint your walls." Margarita comes by. Angie says she's waiting for Lupita. Jorge would like to wait, but Margarita is in a hurry and Angie tells the two of them to go. Lupita then comes out and teases Angie about Jorge. Angie and Lupita talk as they head off for home. Antonio José is watching them unseen.
Surely the writers won't have Chivis going back to AJ... ? I think if my husband had done all that to me (assuming we had a mansion and servants in the first place...hah!) the only thing I'd be saying to him would be 'I want a divorce!' Well, I' d probably have a lot more to say, but none of it suitable for a G rated audience.
I'm so envious of wee Lupita's hair....she literally has handfuls of the stuff. She looks like Merida from 'Brave.'
Jude Gray, I think there's a 0% chance that Chivis will be back with AJ at the end of the novela. However, I think there's an excellent chance that he'll make life difficult for her before that. And my guess is that Trini and Lupita will be on his side. I have no idea how all this will happen, since as far as we know, he's committed crimes for which he probably should go to jail, but I don't think he has reappeared for no reason.
Thanks very, very much, SpanProf, for your gratifying and perceptive comments. You picked out some of the parts I liked best. And I too thought we'd see Antonio José come through the door, not Pedrito. Thanks too for reminding us all about Pablo's great "diabetic coma" remark from Eva la Trailera. IIRC, that scene needed Pablo's sarcastic remark, whereas the scene between Lupita and Pedrito managed to be delightfully funny as well as sweet. And I loved their shaking hands upon agreeing to be novios!
I suspect that AJ won't continue to watch from afar. I'm trying to imagine what he can possibly say that will override all the misery he has caused, not just to his family but also to all the friends and acquaintances he defrauded. Though as I said to Jude Gray in an earlier comment, I bet he'll have Lupita and Trini on his side.
Another splendid recap, Juanita, loaded with useful Spanish!
I was yelling at Manuel in my TV: stop making excuses to Stella. I was scared he’d convince her to stay.
I wish Angie would just tell her mother she’s trying to contribute to the household expenses. And, it’s kind of ridiculous that every time Angie goes to the salsadromo, Majo is there as well. I’m getting a little tired of Majo saying Oh, My God in English with that slacker tone in her voice.
After watching Andrés with Lucha at that restaurant, you can kind of feel sympathy for Majo. He IS a very dull guy!
Jorge needs to be smarter about what Margarita is up to. He’s trying so hard to get back into Angie’s good graces that it was really dumb to accept that sandwich and movie date.
I noticed that Don Benito managed to tell Trini that he wasn’t trying to kiss her in a dead faint, but rather to revive her. She seemed relieved.
I don’t know why Manuel doesn’t just outright admit he’s fallen for Silvana.
Many thanks, novelera, for your kind remarks about the recap and your excellent comments. The only trouble with your very sensible suggestions that Angie and Manuel just come out and tell Chivis the truth is that the plot depends on hiding the truth, even if it makes little sense to do so. I suppose that's one of the things that's wrong with this novela, but it's a flaw it shares with many other novelas. Perhaps most.
I loved your remark about the restaurant scene making you feel sympathy for Majo. To be honest, I hadn't expected Andrés to seem as stodgy as he did at the restaurant. I guess his liking for Paquita lo del Barrio was an attempt to make him seem less so.
Thanks for the recap, Juanita! I actually couldn't tell if Lucha was joking or being serious when she was talking about her exes. I always go the impression that she never had many boyfriends, and certainly not ones that she was serious enough about to want to marry.
J, I had the same question about Lucha and her exes. I was very surprised when she said she had three, and the reasons she gave for breaking off with them seemed a bit weird. Had she been a different sort of person, I'd have assumed she was kidding, but she doesn't seem to kid all that much.
Hey, novelera, it looks as if Angie has been reading your posts on CarayCaray. Tonight she did tell her mother the truth about her working at the salsadromo and why she was doing it.
Come to think of it, even Manuel seemed to be trying to take your advice. Wow, what is it like to have such power? :-)
But I thank y'all for the recaps and comments!!! Millones de gracias!!!
"I don’t know why Manuel doesn’t just outright admit he’s fallen for Silvana." Because the writers need to drag it out for a bit longer? Papichulo is in denial?
Someone predicts that Silvana will end up with her husband by the end. Oh noes! I sort of hope not, or we will have been teased and tormented with the whole Silvanuel (or would it be Manvana?) story line.
Upcoming 'novelas
I think deb posted that Bella Calamidades will be running again during the day, after the Olympics? They just finished it up almost three years ago! I watched it and remember. It was an okay 'novela, not too heavy or dramatic, no regrets about time spent watching it. Many of the actors have been in other telenovelas since then, so it is fun to recognize them.
I hope Telemundo reruns the Wed. episode -- most of it didn't air in Washington, DC because of a storm. Bummer!
--Mary
Mary, Telemundo has the recent episodes available on their website. If you go to http://www.telemundo.com/novelas/sin-senos-si-hay-paraiso, it will open on last night's episode.
OK, since no one has said they plan to recap last night's episode, I thought I'd put up a quick list of some of the things that happened. It's by no means complete, but hopefully it will get the discussion started.
Stella and Lucha have a woman-to-woman talk. Stella tells her about Manuel's calling her Chivis, and asks for Lucha's help. She also tells Lucha that she knows Lucha likes el doctorcito, even though Lucha protests.
Don Benito the Plumber comes to fix the bathroom sink in Trini's house. He apparently does something wrong and water spurts out, soaking Trini and him.
Antonio José checks into a hotel. The receptionist calls him Don Ricardo.
Lupita is very excited to have a novio. She asks Angie whether she has to give a gift. She also confesses to Angie that now that she and Pedrito are novios, she doesn't want to see him. She's too nervous.
Stella talks with Poncho and Dominique about problems with Manuel. She says that before long, Manuel will come crawling back to her. The next scene shows Manuel tossing stones at Chivis' balcony window to get her to come out.
Poncho and Dominique are celebrating the fact that Jennifer has gone back to her ex-marido. There's a knock on the door. No, it's not Jennifer, it's the built-like-a-prize-fighter ex-marido. He asks for Poncho, then socks him in the face. Poncho later says he'd rather have a thousand hits from the ex-marido than see Jennifer return to Stella's house.
Angie takes novelera's advice and comes clean to her mother about working at the salsadromo and explains that she wants to help Chivis with expenses.
Don Benito is sick and has a fever. Trini comes over, and DB says "I think I'm in love."
Poncho suggests to Stella that a strategy for getting Manuel back is to make him jealous. Poncho selflessly [ahem] offers to help.
Lucha and Andrés send more text messages via the computer (at Lucha's instigation, IIRC). Andrés wants to go to the movies and asks her whether she likes Tarantino. Me encanta Tarantino, she replies.
Manuel also seems to be trying to take novelera's advice about being honest with Chivis about his feelings for her. He asks her what her marital status is, and then asks whether she'd go back to her husband if he returns. She asks why he is asking this. "Because you're very important to me."
Trini is walking outside when she hears someone call her name. She recognizes Antonio José...and faints [of course].
thanks so much Juanita!
did Dominique say last night that he hasn't been so sad since María Félix died, ha! (actress known for her role as Doña Bárbara)
I was rewatching the opening segment of "Reina de corazones" yesterday when I noticed Thali García (Angie) was the wild daughter of Juan Soler who had a crush on Eugenio Siller but died early in the series.
love it when Manuel asks his kids, "who is the parent here?"
Mary- in case you can't watch it on-line let me see what I remember,
Martina takes Cata on her "date", when Octavio finally sees her face through the peep hole in his door he can't bring himself to open it, he already ruined the life of one Catalina, Martina and Cata wonder what's up but finally leave.
Albeiro and Hilda visit Marcial, tell him about Daniel, Marcial gives them a card of a lawyer so they can start legal proceedings against Yesica, he wants none of the money, Jota the good guy changes his mind and does not want revenge.
Yesica is set to meet with the Coronel, Hernan is set up to kill him, Pipe pulls him aside, wants him to run for it, that's how they got me by using my mother, but once you kill they can always hold that against you and you are in for life.
Yesica's husband wants her killing to stop, there is too much heat on him, he asks if she is going to kill the Coronel, she says yes, and who is next, wondering if it's him like the Coronel suggested, Yesica says, Gato.
the Coronel is trying to get transfered out of town, (he got a head's up probably from Marcial)
Gato and the other guy are celebrating their new fortune, the shipment that guy was flying disappeared, hmm, so they got money from the 80 kilos Marcial fronted him with, plus Yesica's stuff ??, Yesica makes a surprise visit, wants her merc or the money, she'll find out what's up, and if Gato is using her routes, he's dead.
Daniela shows up at her mothers, unescorted, Cata and the girls notice, Cata calls Daniel, he shows, they jump in and follow her when she leaves.
Octavio goes to see Albeiro and Hilda, is it to warn them about about what Cata's doing or to do Yesica's bidding, get them to read Catalina #1 letter, go for the buried money, and leave town.
Thanks so much, Juanita, for the mini-cap. I believe you got it all. The episode was pretty short on plot development, except for Antonio José revealing himself as back in the US to Trini. The guy is pretty shrewd. He seems to me to realize that, out of the whole family, Trini is likely to be on his side [if only I had the skills to insert here a cartoon Trini with dollar signs for eyeballs!].
I found Lucha insufferable in the scene where she’s pushing her father to get Stella back in his life and back in their house. Has she forgotten everyone’s bursting bladders that morning? Her attitude doesn’t make much sense to me. She’s studying medicine, a career that will surely put her into a fresa lifestyle. But she aligns herself with the vulgar, unsuitable Stella and, as her father said, has been manipulated!
I loved the María Félix mention by Dominique! Apparently this iconic Mexican actress is for Mexican and Mexican-American gay men like Judy Garland is for their counterparts in the US.
It was weird to me that Andrés suggested Tarentino and said something about a “classic”. I was imagining his “art house” tastes more along the lines of Fellini, Truffaut, or Bergman.
Juanita, you gave me too much credit. Although, maybe I did send telepathic messages to the writers that I was fed to the gills with the good guys and gals keeping secrets.
Lucha probably will be a Doctor Without Borders or work at the local sliding fee medical clinic. She's just not a Grey's Anatomy type doctor/person.
Muchas gracias, SpanProf, for your response to my mini-cap and your very interesting comments. Loved your story about PDQ Bach concert outcome. And I too was scratching my head at Lucha's me encanta Tarentino. I mean yes, I've liked several of his films, but I guess I'd want to know more about the specific film before indicating that I'd love to go see it. Some of them can be rather hard to take. Perhaps the writers' choosing Tarentino was another way to indicate that there's more to Andrés than just the ethereal snob pretentiously twirling his wine. And you raise an excellent question about how AJ can afford to pay for a luxury hotel. I guess he's managed to hold on to lots of the money he swindled. The more I see of him, the more I wonder what Chivis ever saw in him. I guess cheerleader Trini probably pushed her to marry him, but still....
Tonight's episode should be interesting!
Thanks very much, novelera, for your great comments. Loved your description of the cartoon Trini with dollar signs for eyeballs. And I definitely share your annoyance at Lucha's trying to convince her father that Stella is right for him.
I greatly appreciated your remarks about Maria Felix. Likening her importance for Mexican gay men to that of Judy Garland for gay men in America was especially helpful. And, as I already commented to SpanProf, I too was surprised by Andrés' fondness for Tarentino. Like you, I saw him more as a fan of Fellini, Truffaut, or Ingmar Bergman.
With any luck, tonight's episode should be fun to recap. I'm glad you'll be doing it.
Deb, thanks for pointing out that the actress who plays Angie was the wild daughter in Reina de Corazones. I thought she looked vaguely familiar, but I had no idea where or even whether I had seen her before.
